I (27F) was given up for adoption at birth. I had an amazing childhood, my adoptive family was amazing and I have no negative feelings towards my adoption. I believe it was a blessing, and I am beyond thankful for how my turned out. 4 years ago I discovered who my birth mother was through 23&me. I eventually met her and her husband, and it was amazing. Our relationship is growing, and I am very happy with the reunion. When meeting her, she explained how she got pregnant by basically a 1 night stand in college. She told my birth father and he wanted nothing to do with me. She made the decision to give me up. She told her husband and her two children about me, and she wants me to meet them and be a bigger part of her life. My birth father (from what she told me) never told anyone about me. After meeting her, I contacted him on Facebook. He never responded back and I send various messages thoughout the years. I don’t know what kind of relationship I want from him. I guess I would like an acknowledgment that I exist. I would like to know a little bit about his life, so I can know who I came from. If he doesn’t want contact or a relationship past that, I can accept that. But I am angry that he ignores my multiple attempts to contact him. Obviously no response from him means he wants nothing from me. But I think he should at the least tell me that instead of ignoring me. So a few days ago I was googling him, and I came across his wife’s name. I found her phone number online. I messaged her, told her I was trying to get into contact with her husband and to let him know I will continue to reach out until I get a response. She said she would let him know. I did not say that I was his daughter, as I thought that was his secret to share. The next day my birth mother contacted me and said my birth dad contacted her, asking him to call her. She has reached out to him when she met me and he ignored her. I believe he contacted yer because he wants her to tell me to leave him alone. She said she will support me whatever I decide. She did not respond to him. It made me angry that he reached out to her but still has yet to contact me. So I texted the wife again and told her I was her husbands birth daughter and that I was adopted from birth. Should I not have told her? AITA for exposing that secret to his wife?
UPDATE: so this happened two days after I originally made this post, it just took a while for me to update. My birth dad ended up sending me an email. Basically it said he never saw my messages and would like to email with me back and forth to navigate this difficult and relationship. He claimed he never saw my messages, but they were clearly opened and read on messenger throughout the years. He claimed that he would like to get to know me, but wasn’t sure how to begin.
I’ve had spoken to his older brother a few weeks prior on Facebook. They knew nothing about me, and had no way of contacting him. They said he moved away from the family many years ago and would try to reach out to him for me, but not to have high hopes. They sent photos of the extended family. They asked me about my life, requested photos and overall were very nice. I got the impression that my birthdad was kind of the black sheep of the family. Anyways, after reading his email and taking time to process my own emotions, I came to the conclusion that I was the asshole. I should have never reached out to his wife. I was upset and emotional, and believed I had a right to continue pushing. Who was he to ignore me? But, I did not like how I behaved. I hurt his wife by exposing his secret, and I think that was really shitty of me to do. Regardless of who he was to me, I had no right to potentially blow up his entire life.
I believe he only reached out because his wife found out and pressured him to contact me. Why else would he ignore me for years, then act like he was open to something immediately after his wife found out? these are assumptions, as I do not know his real motivations.
I have decided to not pursue a relationship further. It was causing a lot of sleepless nights, anxiety and I started to question my worth. I decided my life was better and I was happier before pushing this man for a relationship he clearly does not want. Honestly, that might make me a bigger asshole. But, I am happier now, and I honestly believe he is relieved I haven’t reach out since. What do you think? AITA for not reaching out after receiving his email? Or is it better to just move on?

It is my first year teaching and I was hired mid year to fill a vacancy at this school. This is a rough school. I came out of college equipped with an equity based mindset and ideas that of course you should be lenient with students, but the difference between what things were like at my student teaching placement and what things are like here is like night and day. There are multiple fights daily. There has been a shooting threat. A few months ago there was a stabbing. Students rarely if ever get any meaningful discipline beyond a talking to. Phone policies are non existent on a school wide level and are up to individual teachers to enforce.
As a young teacher who wasn’t able to establish routines on day 1, I was doomed from the start on phones, and I’m lucky if I have 3 kids looking and listening to me at a time. I started telling them that they wouldn’t get credit for work if they were on their phones while we work together and I guide them through answers to ensure I don’t need to repeat myself 25 separate times per kid, but someone complained and admin told me I cannot enforce this, so it’s back to being just as bad.
I teach seniors, so luckily the most violent kids in my class dropped out early, but those who stay get no discipline. For example, at the beginning of me working here there was a girl who did it all. Cut class, cursed me out, took phone calls in class, they didn’t do anything about her for 15 referrals until she threatened to attack me after school, and for that she got just one day ISS. They finally only took her out of my class when she told the whole room loudly that she doesn’t need to come to class to do work and from now on she’ll be picking up her work from me/checking schoology and doing it in another teachers room. Set a bad example of what the school represents, they said. Never mind that plenty of kids do this, she just said it aloud, so they addressed it.
We are two weeks from the end of school for seniors, one of those weeks being finals. I have extended deadlines 3 times to try and get them to succeed, but I still have around 1/4 of my kids failing. That’s like 40 kids who either don’t show up, don’t do their work, or both. For the ones who show up, I tell them in class to do their work to pass, but they do not listen. I call home to try and explain, but it either does nothing to change their work ethic, or the parents won’t pick up/have a full inbox for messages/blocked the schools numbehang up on me when I say I’m from the school.
I’ve been told that starting next week I’m going to need to answer to meetings, calls, and questions about why these kids are failing my class. This means around 40 angry parents asking why I am the reason they need summer school. All but the laziest skirt by their required math course with cheating/photo math, but they fail English because it requires a bit more work. All of my failing students are failing from a lack of work and attendance. Both are things I cannot fix for them or help them to improve without “pixie dust” (a term used by staff here to describe pretending to “find” non existent work to pass kids along.)
I’ve been told by the other seasoned senior teachers that it will be seen as my fault for not getting through to them. I’m already jumping ship and moving districts, but when I panicked about this and said that I’m scared of being screamed at and terrified of if this high failure rate will effect how I’m seen as a professional/ my ability to secure work elsewhere, I was told I’m heartless and not cut out for being an educator because I should care more about their futures than how I’m viewed, but I am genuinely scared for my livelihood. Warning: long post. I just have a lot of feelings on this topic!
We got married two weeks ago and I’m still on such a high from it all. I want to write this post as a bit of a reflection for myself and hopefully to get others excited for their weddings, especially for those who didn’t want a wedding to begin with.
I never wanted a wedding. I wanted to elope, or have a microwedding at most. My husband wanted the big thing. But there was so much about a traditional wedding that I dreaded. I’ve been to so many and they often feel performative, all very similar, and lacking in authenticity. Absolutely nothing wrong with others doing this - I always have a blast and have always LOVED attending weddings. I want to make this clear, that I love whatever it is that brings others joy, especially if they want to share it with me. There is no judgement. I just couldn’t see myself going through the same format of the traditional wedding. I was adamant on the no.
But then I realized that there would be no other time in our lives where we could have an entire day where we get to scream from the rooftops about how amazing our person is. I want my community to know how special my love is. Beyond this, I think love in all its forms deserves celebrating. I started to see a wedding as an opportunity to celebrate our village, our community, the people who have walked beside us in all our life chapters. How beautiful is that? There is no other occasion that will bring all your loved ones to one place. A wedding is the only opportunity you will have to embrace everyone in your life in one night; to bask in all the joy and experience some type of collective effervescence with all your closest people.
But what about the stress? The expectations? The MONEY? Many weddings I had been to, brides or grooms didn’t seem present. They often seemed stressed, and like they were actors in some performance. The day goes by so fast; months of planning and it’s over in a few hours. I’d heard so many stories of immense stress with wedding planning. Family and bridal party drama. The list goes on. I couldn’t bring myself to go there.
Until I realized that I/we are capable of setting boundaries and making intentional decisions. Some things we were just lucky with - that we have good careers and were able to save adequately, with some financial help from family as well. Lucky that our families and friends are all truly wonderful people, and are very low drama with minimal expectations. But some intentional decisions we made were: keeping our priorities in mind from day one (relaxed, fun, guest experience) and only making decisions based on these; even if the wedding world and society told us to do something different. We would simplify things as much as possible, and do without all the fluff and unnecessary stuff. We wouldn’t put any expectations on our loved ones, and overall wouldn’t get attached to any particular “ideal” of what the day would look like. We wanted a laid back vibe, and we had to intentionally choose this mindset from day one of planning. A wedding CAN be relaxed if you choose it to be. Even if your loved ones bring the drama and opinions and expectations - you can’t control others but you can control your reaction and how you choose to internalize it. The mindset you show up with in the months prior and on the day will set the tone for everyone else’s experience.
We made it clear to our loved ones that we had no expectations around our wedding and their roles - we just wanted them to be able to relax and have a good time. No bridal party or bachelorette/bachelor parties. Simple outfits that we felt good in, did my own hair and makeup, only $500 on decoflorals, emails for invites etc. We put our budget into an excellent all inclusive venue that came with an in house planner that took care of every logistical detail so that we could have as minimal stress as possible. We spent the morning with our loved ones lounging by the pool, got ready together, greeted our guests with beers upon arrival (no hiding away), walked down the aisle hand in hand with no other processional, no grand entrance or exit or staged photo ops, no first dances, no tosses. Just a fancy dinner party with a heartfelt ceremony to start and fun dance floor to finish (no DJ either!)
There were several times I felt like I was “doing it wrong” since I just didn’t feel bridal at any point in the planning process. I didn’t care about any of the bride things and needed to frequently remind myself that there is so much that society and the industry tells us we need, that we don’t. And that I’m still allowed to have a wedding in the way that feels right to me. At the end of the day, all I wanted was to bring our people together to have a few days of celebration and I wanted the vibe to be relaxed and authentic. I wanted to be an exceptional host, to treat our loved ones to an amazing experience, and be present with all the love in the air. None of the other stuff mattered and I’m so happy to say that we pulled it off, and everyone had an absolutely incredible time. Every single person commented on how much they loved the vibe of the day, many saying it was the best wedding they’d been to.
I want the brides and grooms to-be out there who feel out of their element and resistant to the process - who have never dreamed of this and are doing it as a compromise - to know that really and truly, it has the potential to be the most incredible thing you’ll ever do. To think back on the old me who was against the idea of planning and hosting a wedding… to me now… wow. I am SO pro wedding, I think everyone deserves to feel that level of joy. It is truly unparalleled and has left me with the most cherished memories. There is no better feeling.
Edit: I hope this post doesn’t come across as boastful. I know we are privileged in a lot of ways and not everyone will be able to have this type of experience. Not everything is in our control. I guess I just want to emphasize that a good amount of stuff IS in our control and that a medium-large-ish wedding doesn’t automatically equal high stress and increased likelihood of disappointment/unmet expectations like I originally assumed.

 | Hey folks, hope everyone is keeping well :) Hopefully this is the right place to put this, but if not please let me know and I'll try move it :) submitted by aviation_hacker to GarageDoorService [link] [comments] Just a random one I thought I'd write up to add to the internet archive in case anyone else still has one of these openers and has the same issues we had with ours. So as many openers do, recently our opener decided to not open, and would move about 2 inches before stopping and leaving us with a flashing reset light and refusing to go further. After getting the unit off and testing by hand and reproducing the fault even by hand (it didn't take much to stop the unit), I popped the cover off and had a look at the condition of the internals - everything looked pretty alright, though it had two Blue Ceramic Capacitors (562M, 500~) that were attached to either side of the motor. Thinking these could be the problem, I ordered some Capacitors, Soldered them in, and it's working again! I can't stop the motor by hand anymore when going up and it stops with the right amount of resistance going down (as it should), and all seems to be well. So in case anyone else has similar issues with their motor (namely this one in particular), then that may be something work trying if you have the skills/experience for it. Of course, naturally this is all at your own risk, and I am not liable for what you choose/don't choose to do. And it's a 240v appliance - don't touch it when it's even plugged in, let alone when it's running, and take all the insulation and self-protection steps necessary as well (discharging capacitors safely before working on them, even though these aren't high capacitance). Many can attest to not messing around with Electricity, that stuff is wildly dangerous if you're negligent with it. Some pictures below with captions etc, but hopefully this helps someone! :) The motor itself with the control panel, as you can see it's an old piece of kit. The back of the motor with this annoying one piece cover design, meaning you have to remove the motor completely to take the plastic cover off :L Here's a picture with the motor cover off, and you can see the two blue ceramic capacitors that I replaced. I did add a layer of heatshrink over the heatshrink showing here afterwards, but forgot to take a photo of the units with the old ceramic capacitors installed beforehand. The old Ceramic Capacitors - I pulled their metal wires out since it gave me more to play with whilst soldering/they weren't going to be useful anyway. New Ceramic Capacitors - same Capacitance, but smaller and a higher voltage rating as well (4x as high!) |

On January 28 I lost my best friend of about 15 years. He had been sick for a long time and was pretty stable, but his health went down suddenly and a couple days later he was gone.
I promised myself and him that he would be my one and only. He'd been with me since I was alone in high school and has done more for me than I could ever thank him for.
People have been (respectfully) suggesting I get another cat. Especially since Chase was a registered emotional support animal, they know how much Chase meant to me and made my life better, so they hope another cat would help since I really miss Chase. One family member knows how I feel about "replacing" Chase, and said I should see/think of it more as like giving another cat a better life like I did for Chase.
Part of me feels conflicted about this. It's not that I don't want to give another cat a safe and loving home. I got Chase from a relative who worked in a shelter and she had originally asked if I wanted a boy cat or a girl cat, and that's how Chase came into my life. I still think about what might've happened to Chase if I went with the other cat and what Chase's life might've been like if we had never met.
Chase's medical bills added up to about $25k over like 8 months. That last weekend with the emergency vet visit and hospitalization alone was like $8k. Because it was for Chase, I was willing to do what I could to get him healthy, but I can't say that for a cat who's not Chase and hasn't been with me for nearly half of my life.
Are "financial considerations" a legitimate reason I can give for not getting another cat? I do have a soft spot for older cats, which may likely result in more health issues that need to be addressed. I don't feel right adopting a cat of any age with the mindset of like, "I'll love you and take care of you up to a $500 vet bill." With Chase, I had no limit, but no other cat is going to be another Chase.
Like I said, I feel somewhat conflicted between "not providing a cat a safe and loving home" and "I'm not going to pay for your vet bills after a certain amount." I definitely have no plans of having another cat anytime in the near future, if ever, but I think the financial "excuse" is something people may be more willing to understand, especially knowing how much I spent to keep Chase with me longer.

I don't feel right adopting a cat of any age with the mindset of like, "I'll love you and take care of you up to a $500 vet bill." With Chase, I had no limit, but no other cat is going to be another Chase.
Like I said, I feel somewhat conflicted between "not providing a cat a safe and loving home" and "I'm not going to pay for your vet bills after a certain amount." I definitely have no plans of having another cat anytime in the near future, if ever, but I think the financial "excuse" is something people may be more willing to understand, especially knowing how much I spent to keep Chase with me longer.

I myself have gotten to know many friends that I originally felt comfortable around but would end up telling me they had feelings for me within two days (and often much less).
I think my last five "friends" have all been really creepy. It's the fourth and fifth that bother me the most.
The fourth (20M) I was in a mostly consensual relationship with. He would pressure me to take photos (non-revealing, just general photos) and also do a voice reveal, call him, etc. I refused a lot but eventually I gave in as he always said that he had done it for me so I should for him too and that there was no reason for me not to trust him when we were talking for months. Eventually one time he told me he would get off on sexual dreams about me (going on to describe it in further detail).
That was really the last straw for me (he had been highly questionable before as well) so I dumped him.
Afterwards, I talked with a friend of his (50 something F) and she thought I had been leading him on by accident. Essentially she kinda blamed me for it, which made me feel bad since even though everyone else was saying he was a pedophile she had been very close with him and I felt like I should give her opinion more weight if you get what I mean.
The fifth one (M21) was super short. We were good friends. I told him about the previous four guys. Not even twenty four hours in, he started saying that he liked my personality and he was going to be direct and say that he wanted to date me when I was 18 or older.
I thought that was kind of odd as it felt like he was sexualizing how I was now.
I let him know other concerns as well but he brushed me off. So I told him if he didn't convert to my religion (he is a secular humanist) that we would never be together. At one point, they called and accused ME of being the stalker, with the stalker taunting me with more texts every step since he somehow knew I was talking with police.
Even my little sister, who the guy said he was on his way to (with her exact address and apartment number, and saying how easy it was to get a gun in my state), that was all the police suggested, was for her to get a gun. She was actually completely down, but I told her she'd go to jail if she just fired a gun through a door. If she waited until he banged down the door, it'd be a 50/50 chance she'd survive, and even if she shoots first, adrenaline can keep someone going for plenty of time to shoot back.
So she slept at her work (a hospital).
And yes, the whole time I knew with 99% certainty this filth would never do anything violent, but I didn't want my sister or parents to be dead and for me to only have "I didn't think he'd actually do it" as a response.
My gf had a suspicion of who it was. When the police questioned me as if I was the stalker, I was done. I was done with life at that point. I screamed at them over the phone that if they didn't put an end to it, that I'd kill the guy my gf suspected myself. That even though I'd be in jail, it would be worth it because nobody would have to deal with him anymore.
I posted my drama to reddit, somebody suggested the FBI. I figured if the police were so fucking useless, there's no way in the hell the FBI would be helpful.
Wrong. They called just days later, sent special agents to meet me. I was terrified, I didn't think they were real. I figured their phone calls to me were fake, and the agents would just be paid associates from the stalker or maybe the guy himself. I confirmed that wasn't the case (I won't say how) and met with them. They took photos of every single text, every single phone number this piece of shit used, every email, they were cordial and professional, although one agent never spoke.
Time goes by. My gf has me check whatever random noises we hear in the house. Stalker was silent, which was almost scarier, because he of course knew we went to the feds. At the time I thought I was fine, other than severe acid reflux and left sided chest pain and my muscle wasting away and turning to fat.
One night my gf and I had absolute mental breakdowns and break up, for some drunk reason I was convinced she was the stalker all along, that's how manic I had slowly become. And after the breakup, that was when the PTSD finally set in. At random points in the day, my ears would become super-human, which unfortunately was not fun for my ear drums, and my heart would try to explode itself. I once asked a cashier once if the fans in the grocery store are always so loud, they had no idea what I was talking about. My heart rate was so fucking loud and fast all the time, luckily urgent care and later an ER visit showed nothing wrong, but breaking down in tears for the first time to an urgent care psych helped a fair bit (even though I was already in therapy).

I changed my number 3 times and within 30 min he'd get the new one, taunting me for trying to evade him. Every text/email he sent was from a different numbeemail address using VPNs and spoofed phone numbers. He also contacted and threatened my coworkers, friends I hadn't spoken to in years, even their parents. Yes, he contacted and threatened my coworkers and the parents of friends I hadn't even spoken to in years.
Random people started showing up to my gfs work, thinking she wanted to hook up with them (the stalker used photos of her to fake a dating profile for her).

I've been around DuroGang for a while and had several contributions over the years. I'm currently working on a handful of Duro mods, which I'll soon share with the sole purpose of inspiring others to do the same. I sincerely enjoy this community because we tend to point each other toward resources for cost-effective Duro parts while simultaneously sharing photos of our various modifications. I hope my contributions to date lend a little reputability as I share recent observations I've had. I'd ask that you take the following information in stride and please come to your own conclusions...
Over the preceding month, I've noticed a few "custom" mods that are very unique from anything I've seen in DuroGang to-date. They're definitely cool, and I normally encourage these posts; however, I hope no one here is trying to take credit for someone elses work and then attempting to profit off it. My concern is a recently promoted shopify store. It was immediately apparent this was a reseller who's significantly inflating prices beyond what's reasonable (nearly twice the cost).
You might ask how I know this. Well, a few years ago, I found a website belonging to a watch enthusiast/hobbiest who's located in Sweden (I'm in the United States). I'm going to call this person Mr. 🇸🇪 because I don't know his name. Mr. 🇸🇪 happens to create modification parts for all sorts of watch models (including the Duro). When I first discovered Mr. 🇸🇪's website, I had a brief email exchange where I inquired about custom dial pricing. During that exchange, I learned he makes all his dials and bezel inserts in-house using some high-tech CNC equipment. I learned he has access to this equipment due to perks through his primary employment. I learned Mr. 🇸🇪 sells his custom dials / bezel inserts at slightly above cost. When we emailed on pricing, Mr. 🇸🇪 was incredibly polite and receptive to talking about the hobby of watch modding even though I didn't order anything at the time. His website also featured crisp images while these new shopify stores that are popping up seem to feature low-quality images of the same items created by Mr. 🇸🇪.
My overall point is this... if you like any of the new "custom" mods that are showing up, it's only fair, Mr. 🇸🇪 be recognized for his creations and not resellers who appear to he claiming these creations as their own.

Basically what I have over the course of the entire day, photos not in chronological order to prevent triggering anyone... Last 2 photos are in a way "volume eating" but not in the traditional sense, as I really do eat with my eyes... I need to see a certain amount of volume, and eat it all, before I feel satisfied - it could've been worse if I went for the more decadent stuff.
I'll be stingy with my main meals - high volume, high protein, low calorie foods. Just so that I can spend the excess calories on snacks on a daily basis. I don't think what I'm doing is healthy, but so far it's the way that I've been doing it for the last 2-3 years and everything is still good.
Not to say that people should follow this, but keep in mind that we need to enjoy life. If it helps you stay healthy, and helps with adherence to your diet, why not? Everything in moderation, it all comes down to balance.
After years of volume eating, the general idea would be to: 1.) Have a stable high protein low calorie food source - for me that would be dried anchovies, dried shrimps, canned tuna, soya chunks. These are the things where I can pre-prep and carry with me wherever I go. That way you'll be sure to have enough protein wherever you go to eat.
2.) Leafy greens are best when it comes to sheer volume. Use them to bulk up the size of the meal. I'm a lazy person, and due to my job I have minimal time to prepare my meals. I would love to try out the awesome recipes that I see here daily but sadly I don't have the time and as a result I just pour water over soya chunks and douse it in Sriracha for super high protein and very voluminous dinner - which takes almost no time to prep.
3.) Don't go out of your way to make everything perfect, that'll cause you so much more stress and slowly force yourself off the diet without you yourself noticing it. Find your sweet spot. It's a lifestyle.
