2024.04.23 21:41 vorpel88 For AMD EPYC processor - how much torque for securing the heatsink...?

Hello. I've installed my Supermicro MBD-H12SSL-NT-B motherboard and installed the AMD EPYC 7763 processor. The motherboard manual says to tighten the 3 screws for the CPU bracket to 14.0lbf-in. I got that done.
I purchased a Supermicro 4U heatsink (model SNK-P0064AP4). I can't find what tension to secure the heatsink to the motherboard. I did contact Supermicro Tech Support and they don't have the info either. Only thing they could find was a quick reference guide (https://www.supermicro.com/QuickRefs/superserve2U/QRG-2416.pdf) to one of their servers that lists in the bottom left corner that the heatsink should be tightened to the same 14.0lbf-in spec.
I did check on the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 HSF manual and it says "Caution: Gently tighten the screws until they stop, but don’t use excessive force (max. torque 0.6 Nm)."
Before I do anything, does anyone have practical experience with how much to tighten the heatsink down to? The screws are spring loaded so I'm thinking that I should just tighten them until they stop turning under normal pressure and leave it at that - i.e. do NOT torque them down.
Thanks!

2024.04.14 06:23 mortau Casio Wrist Camera (WQV-1) absolutely unwilling to share its secrets with a PC

I have officially gone to extreme lengths to get this thing to talk to a computer. The images are obviously really low resolution, but at this point it's more about cracking the nut of this challenge and getting this first gen Casio Wrist Camera to talk using a series of blinking infrared lights.
I'll cut some of the story but here are the main some points:
Some things I know:
If anyone has any suggestions at this point they would be greatly appreciated. At this point I'm starting to suspect there's a receive issue on the watch side, but I can't confirm that 100% without another WQV-1 watch or a Palm pilot to test.
The software is just so janky generally speaking that I don't trust what it says. I've tried a hundred different things, and I thought I might finally solve it by creating an operating environment it expects (Windows 98/NT). So far, I have not.

2024.03.18 06:49 UnCytely My first mining rig: H11DSi vs H12DSi?

I know some people want me to get a Ryzen 5950X or something. Here is my thinking about that. The way I see it, an Epyc motherboard has a higher ceiling. If I get a Ryzen, the 5950X or similar is the ceiling. But with an H11Si or H12Si, I can start with something like a 7401P for $80, then later on upgrade as far as two 64-core 256MB L3 beasts. Not saying I would, just saying I could, without starting over from scratch.
What I will probably start with is an H11Si-NT or H12Si-NT6 with a 7401P, then upgrade to 2 more powerful CPUs later. (I know the "P" CPUs can only be used in single-CPU configurations) That said, what are the differences between the H11Si-NT and the H12Si-NT6?
Could someone recommend a good SP3 CPU cooler for a dual-CPU motherboard? Even though I will be starting with 1 CPU, I want something with limited horizontal real estate so I can fit another on the same board later, but which still cools effectively.

This build will basically be a merge of the 2 servers.
My main workloads currently are
- Hosting of media center (arr stack)
- Misc container hosting (Adblock Dns, Lan caching, vpn, password manager, nextcloud, ...)
- CI/CD pipelines for my open source projects (expect to extend this further in the future as I finish more projects)
- Game server hosting (will probaably increase this in the future as well)
- Windows VM for development
- Windows vm for server management

So what do you guys think?
What I'm mainly concerned about is the cpu choice for this build. I went with a 24 core Milan due to the cpu score when comparing benchmarks to Rome cpu's.
In the same price bracket I can get 48,64 core Rome cpus but they use a little more power, are a bit more expensive and only score a little better.
So I'm note sure if I should got for more single core power or more multi threaded power considering my workloads.

Power consumption is another concern.
Currently I'm using about 250w and I would like to stay around this. (Can be higher during peak load)

Curious to see what you guys think!

2023.12.10 11:24 RAMDRIVEsys Windows 9x vs NT basis

Hello, so as I understand, Windows 9x is DOS-based while Windows NT (including modern Windowses like 10 and 11) have a completely different kernel, but from what I am reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_9x
"Windows 95 was able to reduce the role of MS-DOS in Windows much further than had been done in Windows 3.1x and earlier. According to Microsoft developer Raymond Chen, MS-DOS served two purposes in Windows 95: as the boot loader, and as the 16-bit legacy device driver layer.[33]
When Windows 95 started up, MS-DOS loaded, processed CONFIG.SYS, launched COMMAND.COM, ran AUTOEXEC.BAT and finally ran WIN.COM. The WIN.COM program used MS-DOS to load the virtual machine manager, read SYSTEM.INI, load the virtual device drivers, and then turn off any running copies of EMM386 and switch into protected mode. Once in protected mode, the virtual device drivers (VxDs) transferred all state information from MS-DOS to the 32-bit file system manager, and then shut off MS-DOS."
...MS-DOS gets shut down right after Windows 9x is fully loaded so it only uses it as a bootstrap loader basically? How is that DOS based?
I understand that Windows NT disposes with that and avoids any DOS whatsoever, however, if its basis is completely different, how come both 9x and NT can both run the same Win32 applications? Sure, early NT had compatibility issues with some programs, especially games, that were intended for 9x, but this was related to DirectX versions etc. rather than any fundamental difference (and the ultimate proof of it is this https://youtu.be/kPy1XKq0Dog?si=SDQ4qOyZprC8Djb4 ), so how could 2 fundamentally different system run the same programs?
Thanks in advance for answers

2023.12.05 23:13 Palepimp Web browser authentication issues with SSRS. Tied to computers, not users. Can't find the culprit!

I am a Systems Administrator for various clients, not SQL DB person. Let's just get that out of the way!
I have worked on this on and off for the past 3 weeks and spent countless hours traversing these and other forums, I think I have reached the end of the Internet trying to figure out this issue.
History:
For a small office, I had to migrate a Domain Controller and a 3rd party application and SQL database (2014 SP3) from a Windows 2012 R2 server to a modern Windows Server 2022 Standard VM (to decomission Server 2012 server). Not really important so far. We decided to stay with SQL 2014 SP3 on new server for budgetary reasons as they already owned the licenses. SQL/SSRS 2014 are hosted on the same server and are fully patched. Domain Controller is now a seperate VM. File ServeSQL serveSSRS are now hosted on same VM (same as before, except DC was also on the old server).
I then learned client was also utilizing SSRS 2014 on old box as well. Moved all DB's over successfully, backed up all encryption keys, restored, Data is tested and moved, reports are accessible from host. Had an issue with the Data Source in SSRS pointing to the old SSRS instance, updated that and fixed most report problems.
Now, what I find out is that the Report links are embedded in the 3rd party application used by client all over the place, many report URLs are in various records. These links are hardcoded to old server hostname (example https://server01/Reports). I did not want to find and replace many URL's/links all over the database, so I decided to rename the old server to "server01-old", created a CNAME record in internal DNS for the new SQL/SSRS server (server02) with a host address of "server01" that points to "server02.domain.local". Create new self-signed SSL cert with "SERVER01" as the COMMON NAME. Install that in SSRS for the HTTPS bindings for Web Service URL and Report Server URL. Configure Service Account, Execution Account, etc. All is successful. Accessing the new SSRS report URL using the "old" hostname URL works. I can enter "https://server01/Reports" and I can pull up the reports, or the ReportServer URL works as well.
Now, this also works from 2 other computers/users (domain environment) on the network. Zero problems with them. However 2 other computers receive http error 401 while navigating to the URLs. I say computers when I explain this, because it is NOT user related. For one of the users that cannot access the URL and receives the HTTP error 401, (https or http, doesn't matter, same error), I can sign in as that user on a working machine as that same user, and then that user CAN pull up the URL. **This problem is tied to the computers, NOT the users.**
Another strange thing, on the non-working computers, if I access InPrivate browsing (MS Edge), or Incognito (Chrome) and attempt to access the URL's, I am prompted with a login window, entering the Domain Username and Password works, and the website opens up fine. The problem with this is that the embedded report URL's in their application don't work, because for whatever reason, the NTLM authentication isn't passed seamlessly to the SQL/SSRS server. But in a browser, while using InPrivate/Incognito, login prompt appears and I can log in. Please keep in mind the goal is to get the browser to access the SSRS URL without prompt, because if that is working, then the application displays the reports normally - this is the entire goal to fix. The URL being accessible after a login isn't really the endgame, because I can't force the application to "login" to SSRS first, so all their links work in their records (hopefully I am making sense with this). **The endgame is for their Windows 10 machine to pass the NTLM credentials to the SSRS server seamlessly so the application records will display their reports normally**. Not being able to access the SSRS URL is a symptom of the problem, not the entire issue.
I delved down the whole NTLM/Basic/Kerberos authentication options, and I am not changing this yet (even though I tested RSWindowsNegotiate and RSBasic without success). Reason being is that this all worked perfectly before with Default NTLM authentication with zero modifications to the SSRS authentication options. On the previous server it all just worked fine with default configuration. I realize I made some DNS and SSL modifications to make my solution work, but I can't get over the fact that 2 other Windows 10 computers (all computers at office are Win10) work totally normal. This must be fixable.
I have enabled the HTTP log in SSRS, and for the computers that are receiving the HTTP 401 error, there is NO username listed in the HTTP access log for that attempt. For the computers that do work, the username is listed correctly. This is what got me started down the path of this being a Web browseauthentication issue. I feel like the non-working computers are not passing the NTLM credentials when attempting to access the URL.
**Important Note: From a non-functioning computer, and accessing the URL by IP address, via HTTP (not https), browser will prompt for login, and it works. Accessing by IP address of server using HTTPS and I receive a different error, "Not Found HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found."**
So I started looking for differences between these computers in browser versions, network configuration, patch levels, hosts file, DNS, Local Admin, Internet Options (Intranet/Trusted Sites), DisableLoopbackCheck (server registry, set to 1), anything I could think of and found online. I haven't found any differences between the PCs yet, and any of my fixes have not worked for these 2 computers. **I have also checked SSRS and SQL permissions ad nauseum, like I said, I can work with the 2 functioning computers and we are good regardless of user, so this isn't a permission issue on the Site Settings or Folder Settings in SSRS.**
At this point I feel I have hit a wall. I was going to setup a new workstation, or Reset Windows on one of their computers, join it to the domain, and see if I can access the URL right away. If it works, I am literally going to have them replace the 2 non-working computers. However I know this is a config issue somewhere in Windows, or with the browser, and it's fixable.
Second thing I may do is purchase a wildcard SSL certificate, and get both the New and Old server names listed as the SAN's on that cert, and then Configure 2 HTTPS URL's in the SSRS Management console. Then I can test with New Server name in the URL and old, to see if there's a difference. I can't add a second URL in SSRS Management Console with the new server name, because it will only allow 1 certificate to be bound to https at a time. Currently using Self-Signed certs and apparently I am not smart enough to create a self-signed cert with multiple SANs listed on it.
I have yet to find a solution to this strange problem, and I can't keep grasping at straws for a solution. I need to find a solution and fast so my customer and I can move on to other projects. Anyone have any ideas on this?
DiableLoopbackCheck Registry modification on SQL/SSRS server.
ALL combinations of Internet Options - Intranet Sites/Trusted Sites -- Adding server address, removing it, logon to server automatically, only in Intranet Zone. No difference. In fact, the working computers are using default Internet Options for all security zones.
Local Admin accounts, non Admins, again this problem is just with the physical computers, not the domain user accounts.
HTTP Access logs in SSRS show NO username when non working computer attempts to access URL, like this:
12/04/2023 20:40:06 192.168.20.133 - 192.168.20.4 47873 server01 GET /Reportserve ?%2fMessageView&rs:Command=Render&rc:Toolbar=false&rs:ClearSession=true&sysid=M72DEB0E97D71531 401 690 0 1.1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.75 Safari/537.36 - - -
The HTTP access logs in SSRS DO show a Username when reports are working from that computer:
12/04/2023 20:45:06 192.168.20.31 *DOMAIN\domainuser* 192.168.20.4 47873 server01 GET /Reportserve ?%2fMessageView&rs:Command=Render&rc:Toolbar=false&rs:ClearSession=true&sysid=M72DEB0E97D71531 200 1316 3484 1.1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.75 Safari/537.36 - - -
Tried Changing to RSBasic Authentication in "rsreportserver.config" and also with RSNegotiate, with or without RSWindowsNTLM.
I don't think the problem is tied to the SSL Certificate, problem occurs via HTTP or HTTPS. Accessing via IP address of SSRS server prompts for login when using http, when using https I receive HTTP Error 404 - NOT Error 401.
Tried adding a second HTTPS URL in SSRS Management Console and binding a separate SSL cert to it that has the CN name of the new server, so I can test access with the new server name in the URL, but SSRS gives an error that only 1 Certificate can be used to bind to separate URLs, I can't use 2 different certs.
Modified Hosts files to point directly to new server using FQDN, new and old hostnames same IP of new server.
At my wits end.

2023.11.25 20:26 MindlessEditor2762 Help me get llama running on a dual-socket, 8-channel system. (2x8)

I know this may be a lot to ask, but if there are any people interested in seeing how fast this can go, please help me out with your ideas here.
So hardware-wise what I got is an H11DSI-NT dual socket SP3 motherboard, bios version 2.1 with 2 32-core EPYC 7502s and all 16 memory slots populated by 256GB (128GB per socket) of 3200MT/s DDR4 sticks certified for this board by Supermicro, totaling 8 memory channels on each of the 2 sockets.
For BIOS set-up I have read the motherboard manual, AMD implementation and tuning guides. As suggested for high memory bandwidth HPC (subtype CFD) workloads, I disabled SMT (Hyperthreading), set the NUMA nodes per socket to 4 (NPS4), locked memory speed at 3200 to prevent matching the NB at 2933, and the 4-link xGMI speed from 10 to 16Gbps (max 18).
For the OS I have installed Clear Linux, as supposedly it comes with OOTB tuning for HPC workloads. So far I've had some problems however. The stateless config isn't so intuitive, which would be alright if not for the documentation being actually wrong in some places, possibly outdated. I've researched some configuration options to improve performance but none seemed to have a positive effect in my preliminary testing, so I have not applied any permanently. The OS is mostly stock for now.
How well does it actually work? Works as expected as far as I can tell. The main reason I got this rig is rendering and it rips, so that's fine. As for memory, after limited tweaking here are the results of my STREAM benchmark:
STREAM version $Revision: 5.10 $ This system uses 8 bytes per array element. Array size = 10000000 (elements), Offset = 0 (elements) Memory per array = 76.3 MiB (= 0.1 GiB). Total memory required = 228.9 MiB (= 0.2 GiB). Number of Threads requested = 64 Number of Threads counted = 64 Your clock granularity/precision appears to be 1 microseconds. Each test below will take on the order of 514 microseconds. (= 514 clock ticks) Function Best Rate MB/s Avg time Min time Max time Copy: 2867900.2 0.000067 0.000056 0.000122 Scale: 2761681.6 0.000065 0.000058 0.000100 Add: 3078388.3 0.000081 0.000078 0.000086 Triad: 3078388.3 0.000094 0.000078 0.000199
Pretty good I think. Better than what the openSUSE guide for HPC I read promised at 250, but not as good as AMD's technical tuning guide which promised 350. However this appears highly variable for me, the result above is merely the best of 6, while the worst of 6 was a pathetic 1/3rd of it. No idea if that means anything.
Finally, for actual inference I got ggreganov/llama.cpp and lostruins/koboldcpp. I must say I am not at all familiar with running on CPU as all of my usage until now was done on my GPU system, this one has no GPUs (beyond the motherboard VGA controller).
So far I've tried 2 models, TheBloke/nous-capybara-34b.Q4_K_M.gguf (Yi model), and Sao10K/Euryale-1.4-L2-70B.q5_K_S.gguf (llama2). The speed has been thoroughly disappointing, with the fastest result being:
llama_print_timings: load time = 15986.07 ms llama_print_timings: sample time = 66.48 ms / 100 runs ( 0.66 ms per token, 1504.28 tokens per second) llama_print_timings: prompt eval time = 848.76 ms / 20 tokens ( 42.44 ms per token, 23.56 tokens per second) llama_print_timings: eval time = 38684.95 ms / 99 runs ( 390.76 ms per token, 2.56 tokens per second) llama_print_timings: total time = 39667.94 ms Log end
As a result of:
./main -m ../Nous-Capybara-34B-Q4_K_M.gguf -p "An extremely detailed description of the 10 best ethnic dishes will follow, with recipes: " -n 100 -t 32 -tb 64 --mlock --no-mmap --numa
The 70B model runs at about half that, best case.
I can download other models, software, apply any BIOS tweaks and OS settings, compile with whatever flags, EVs and hacks if necessary.
Thank you if you read this far, but I apologize if I probably don't respond until tomorrow. I will be going to sleep any minute now.

2023.11.19 15:08 dakdakbuhbuhlmao MacSploit, "yet another executor for macOS" first impression

MacSploit,
Hi chat! With the recent development of Script-Ware's dissolution, Hydrogen (macOS & Android executor) has virtually kept the monopoly in macOS space, even though there were hardly any obstacles there thanks to Byfron's NT codebase (citation needed). But even with no competition there, the new developers' team over Hydrogen has been slow to push an update for macOS.
But now, thanks to the slight demand for another executor, MacSploit was born. (tbh, I just knew them pretty recently on v3rm, but since they were free, I decided to give it a try... lol\*.)* Yeah you heard that right, they are offering a free version of the software right now, for a while before returning to Lifetime purchase < But keep in mind that they are still new, so don't expect much from them (I tried my best to verify their legitimacy, but I can't see anything out of hand, apart from the "Nexus" guy, which is ugly in their resumé (quite an amount of CWs). But you can still download and give it a try if you are adventurous (aka stupid))
Note to mods: Before taking this down, please tell me about it in the chat ASAP! Also, I would love to get a note on which part of this post is bad, I would love to take it down right away!
VirusTotal here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/b0060f92c292ca16725ed3a9e140bebdb8c234a9cad7eebcbe237887736e4e3f
================Using around================
Note: The version that I used was 1.01, so expect changes in future versions.

Quick view
Upon opening the first time, it is almost similar to the Alpha version of Hydrogen that came with its terrible IDE. Which is understandable since it is still pretty much brand new. I still looking forward to the crazy customization on SW-M (Which I don't think is possible since MSploit uses UIKit/SwiftUI instead of SW's Bootstrapper as their front end.)

Execution tab
Settings tab
Using it was pretty straightforward, you just get into a game and execute a script after that. Which I personally very disliked since it doesn't show anything about "injection status". IY runs perfectly fine (at least there's something).
IY
However... when running UNC Environment Check to benchmark its capability, it crashes Roblox (LOL). Now, I don't know why, so I'm gonna take a random guess that their executor is still not finished yet?

RIP lol
Be4 ending, I want to say something for people who want to try:
  • Don't run unverified scripts right now, it's crazy out there!
  • It is still pretty much not finished
  • Autoexec folder is in the Documents folder of your user's directory, along with the workspace, with the same as `Macsploit Automatic Execution` and `Macsploit Workspace` in order.

=========Walkthrough video===========

Walkthrough
======Ending======
Even though it is obviously not finished yet, I am still amazed by their work so far, especially the dark time of Roblox Exploiting that is going on. And also, competition drives the market for the better, which is a good thing for users/consumers.

Side notes: I don't know if they could keep the Lifetime payment long, I don't think they would. (Maybe they could use the Shortlink services to get the funds to upkeep their infrastructure)

Mypal 68 for Windows 98?
Hi, I just installed KernelEx with KernelEx Core v4.5.2016, and copied XP SP2/SP3 DLLs and placed mypal.exe to the MyPal 68 folder, setted the dll's files compatibility and mypal.exe to Windows XP SP2, but I get this error:
MyPal 68 throwing up an error while launching on Windows 98.
It says: The MOZGLUE.DLL file is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:NtReleaseKeyedEvent.

First some pre-answers to some questions you may have about the above:

- The links above I got from Google to provide you with information about the components.

- The above components are already in my possession purchased from Amazon, eBay, NewEgg, etc.....

- I treat computers like cars, I never buy new. I wait till issues are worked out then buy used after the major issues are taken care of... which is why I took the year 2018 as the start point when looking for parts.

- I am based in the USA.

- This system will NOT be over clocked.

- Windows 10 Pro will be the main boot option for now. Windows 11 is not even an option at this point. May switch over to UNIX if MicroSoft doesn't get their act straight.

- I only trust Air Cooling. Unless there's someone with a briefcase full of cash ready to reimburse me if the water cooling system leaks standing right next to my computer, it's a "No Go".

- Noctua was chosen because they have an excellent reputation with Air Cooling from what I was able to gather.

- If you go to the motherboard page and click Support>Storage QVL the Team 4TB M.2 drive is the largest supported and I want to max out storage space that is available on the motherboard.

- If you go to the motherboard page and click Support>Memory QVL the Corsair CMK128GX4M8A2666C16 is one of the two fastest Non-overclock options to max out the RAM that is available on the motherboard at 128GB.

- Two optical drives were chosen because family members like me to backup various disks for them and two drives are more efficient. Also I sometimes play Movies on one display while working on the other. Internal were chosen to free up desk space and reduce clutter. Also fewer external pieces to plug in to an outlet.

- The processor was chosen to support the graphics card as well as my learning about different UNIX distros running in Virtual Machines

- While I like to play games on the PC, I am NOT a Professional gamer, or even an Amateur gamer. I am a casual gamer.

- The NVIDIA graphic card was chosen because it seemed the best option despite going with am AMD system, and saw no viable AMD graphics cards around that time period with a PCI-e 3.0x16 that compared.

- The displays are 1080p. I don't see a need to go beyond 1920x1080

- The goal is to future-proof for my system for the foreseeable future. There's an old survivalist saying, "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

--
Now all that being said, here are the question I have:

So the first question is what recommendations do you folks have for the power supply? Using the various power supply calculators I'm getting I need a 850 watt PS to be on the safe side.

Next looking over the motherboard manual in addition to the "ATX Power Connector" there's a "8 pin 12V Power Connector" and "4 pin 12V Power Connector". I thought a board is supposed to have either a 4 or 8 pin connector, not both. So do I use both or just the eight pin?

Also the CPU cooler from Noctua comes with "Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound and a full 6-year manufacturer’s warranty, the NH-U14S TR4-SP3 forms a complete premium-quality solution that combines maximum performance and superb acoustics for enthusiast-grade sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 systems." So should I use this thermal compound that came with the cooler or another compound?

Any other tips or suggestions in maximizing this build would be greatly appreciated. Provide links if you can. Thanks in advance.

2023.05.20 16:13 Apap00 AMD 7f52 vs 7313P

Bought a 2nd hand 7313P for $ 650.00, seller is trying to push a 7f52 because he cant find the 7313P.
Use case:
Overbuilt NAS/Plex build in a supermicro 846.
Unraid, 128 ddr4 ecc, rtx 4000.
My concerns are cooling, the 7313P is more than I need but it has a tdp of 155w
the 7f52 is a 240W.
Also technically the passmark score of the 7313P is higher.

I love the design and finish on the CX4712! Not the best cable management I've ever done but good enough. I wanted all the cables I would need to be plugged into the PSU so that it's easier to add hardware as needed. Let me know what you guys think.

2023.05.04 23:30 theswampmonster Missing a autoexec.nt file in my System32 folder that I need to stop illegal operations warnings

Hi! This got removed from tech support for being a legacy system so I figured I'd ask you cool folks.
So I set up a Windows 98 virtual machine on VMware Workstation 17 Player so I can play some old games, including some that are originally for DOS (games in question are Catz and Oddballz). About half the time when I start these games, I get this error message.
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
ODDZ caused a general protection fault in module WIN87EM.DLL at: 0001:00000293 (etc)
I Google searched for answers and found this Stack Overflow post where someone had the same problem. The solution they received was this:
  1. Download winfloat.exe from http://www.conradshome.com/win31/archive/
  2. Open winfloat.exe with 7zip. Find HIDE87.com and extract it to desktop.
  3. Copy HIDE87.com to C:\Windows\System32\
  4. Open c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt with notepad
  5. At top of file, after first group of comments add the following: "lh %SystemRoot%\system32\HIDE87.com"
  6. Add a comment above your last line: "REM Fix for Gen. Protection Fault in win87em.dll"
  7. Save changes to autoexec.nt and reboot pc.
Just what I need, but the big problem is I don't have a autoexec.nt file in my System32 folder. This is a fresh install of regular Windows 98 from this .iso so I have no idea why it would be missing.
Can I download this autoexec.nt file from anywhere?
Is there another workaround to this error that wouldn't involve this particular file?
I'm aware of DOSBox as a playing option but would rather use that as a last resort.

Hi,
I recently salvaged a ThinkPad T43 and I figured I could put ROS on it just for the sake of the experiment. I have no experience with ROS but the idea of having a open source NT based OS is exciting enough for me to dive in and try to help the devs with the few tests I can run on real hardware.
But when I try to boot any ROS medium (both installation media and LiveCD), it never seems to start the OS.
When I tried to boot the installation medium, it just stayed on a black screen. The LiveCD however, instantly goes into a BSOD (IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED, STOP : 0x00000069 (nice)). When attempting to boot the LiveCD in debug mode, it hangs loading SWENUM.SYS.
Booting the official Windows XP SP3 installation media brings me again to a BSOD (STOP : 0x0000007B), which seems to indicate a IDE/AHCI related issue.
The T43 is peculiar because it is the very first ThinkPad to have a SATA controller BUT, in order to cut costs, IBM/Lenovo did put a SATA to PATA bridge on the motherboard and slapped a good ol' IDE drive in it. I figured there must be an option in BIOS to disable AHCI (since WinXP doesn't support it natively) but nothing. My guess is that since there's no physical SATA slot on the T43, IBM/Lenovo wouldn't bother to implement AHCI in their BIOS but this peculiar drive setup might confuse WinXP/ROS when attempting to load them. I haven't tried to update the BIOS yet, as it was pretty janky back in the days, I don't want tospend time unbricking a motherboard.
My T43 currently has a crappy install of WinXP SP3 dating from waaaaaaaay back when it came out from the factory. It still has some proprietary Lenovo software installed. Maybe is there some old storage drivers to extract from it ?
One the ROS Rigs page, the T43 has been tested and seems to work pretty okay but it was back in 2018. The tester mentioned no specific workaround to get it to install ROS. No traces of the latest ROS build being installed on one of these. If someone here happens to made it work, please let me know.
