So I've been into these systems for three years now, but I've recently come to doubt my whole typology. I'm not going to say what I've been typed as before though, because I'd like to avoid bias. It'd be cool if you tried to type me in other systems as well, such as Enneagram, Socionics, Psychosophy/Attitudinal Psyche, Big 5, Temperaments, Jungian...

1. I'm a very closed off person who needs a lot of time to recharge since people wear me out, but I've been told I come across as a highly energetic, hardworking and overall as an inspiring and determined person. For instance, I always strive for the best, even if that means sacrificing my comfort (like going to one of the best universities in my country even if it's like over 100 km from home and I have to wake up at 5 AM everyday), and I'm always passionate about pursuing something to improve myself, because I'd hate to feel like I'm wasting time lazing around.
   
2. People see me as someone responsible to rely on, they have told me I'm a good listener and understand them well, I give honest advice while also taking into consideration their feelings and reactions (I don't want to come across as offensive and insensitive), and in general I like giving a good impression. I mean, I can't stand fake people, but I still feel it's important to portray yourself in a good light. I think you must treat others the same way you'd like to be treated, that is, with respect (but, of course, if they cross me, I'll act spiteful towards them, since that's what they deserve).
   
3. Despite trying to be reasonable at all times and doing my best not to come across as overly emotional, I'm very anxious and tend to catastrophize, so while it's not usual, when it happens, my outbursts are strong. Then, I feel like trash after it all happens, since I perceive it as me having made a fool of myself. My feelings tend to escalate quickly, and sometimes due to something that it's not THAT important, so it's helpful to have someone slow me down and help me see the big picture. I can also be too straightforward as well, to the point that I sometimes end up being reckless. For example, there has been multiple times where I suddenly felt the urge to insult someone because they did something that offended me; in those cases I fortunately had a friend to shut me up and distract me from it because they know I might not be able to wait until they're out of sight to complain about them.
   
4. While at a distance I might seem intimidating and stern, people close to me see me as innerly soft, sensitive and pretty much a romantic prone to sentimentality. I've always had a hard time with processing emotions, because since I was a kid I've been taught "emotions are for the weak", so I tried to repress them. It wasn't until I discovered my passion for poetry that I finally learned to come into contact with them and understand them without shame. Currently, I feel like I have an easier time expressing myself and I'm not as repelled of my own feelings like I was in the past... Many people have actually told me, to my surprise, that my face is amusingly expressive, like I'm transparent even if I try my best to hide myself from the world. That said, I communicate my feelings through poems, so while I'd like the other person to take the initiative in this regard, I'll try to reciprocate it my way.
   
5. However, I can also be quite passive and insecure when I feel oppressed and vulnerable in my environment (I feel like the whole world is against me in such circumstances), so I tend to walk on eggshells most of the time just in case. I'd say I'm mostly awkward, and I never know how to interact with my surroundings properly. If I've done it well, it's likely that I've just been lucky. This has led me to be isolated most of my life, and despite the fact that I currently have some connections with people, I feel like it's still not enough. I'm very private, secretive, and harbour trust issues; but I also crave intense connection with people I've taken a liking to (after a long time assessing if they're trustful enough for me to grow attached to them, since I place a lot of value on loyalty and suffer a lot when those close to me suddenly disappear from my life). I'm really compassionate with others, so some people have taken advantage of my kindness to then stab me in the back when I least expected it, which has made me become outwardly distant and unapproachable through the years (when the truth is that I'm just terrified of people). I've always had this impulse to help and protect those in need when they couldn't stand up for themselves, so it's curious how much compassion I could feel for others when I couldn't feel it for myself. Anyway, I still hold those around me to high standards, which I apply to myself as well.
   
6. On the other hand, I place a lot of value to my appearance too. Like poetry, my own style is a way to express who I am as a person, and I can't understand nor find myself attracted to people who don't care at all regarding this part of themselves... It's as if they're neglecting one of the most important ways to make themselves appealing to both themselves and others. For me, it's also a way to feel better about myself, since the attractiveness and health of the body is just as important as that of the mind.
   
7. Now, I suck at everything related to numbers or economics. They're so boring and uninteresting to me that my brain shuts down when something related to it comes up (I already suffer enough in law school whenever I'm forced to do subjects involving financial law or the like). I've always been more drawn to humanitarian subjects like languages, literature...
   
8. I'm highly impatient (I get easily frustrated when something doesn't go my way like "it's supposed to", and I can grow envious and resentful towards someone that did it better than me), irritable (I'm peaceful until something or someone crosses me), and pessimistic (if something remotely bad happens, then that means it's all doomed to fail). I can be intolerant as well, easily despising someone others might be indifferent to, and I've been told to be impulsive too when I fail to guard myself from what makes me react aggressively either to others or myself. In addition, I cannot deal with people that are too aloof to descifer, like it's obvious they're keeping something from me, but they will lie and tell me "it's okay" while it's obvious that it's not, and their facial expressions are so dull that I won't even be able to extract the minimum out of them. In such circumstances I might flare up to try to get them out of their shell in order to know whatever they're hiding away from me; but that typically ends up driving them away from me further (which pisses me off to no end). I like straightforward people who are not cowards and will make things clear from the beginning, even if it hurts.
   
9. Regarding my mannerisms, they're mostly stiff, instead of smooth or soft. As I said, I come across as energetic even if I slept 4 hours that day, I walk and talk VERY quickly (people who speak and move slowly get on my nerves), and I can be very expressive and loud if I'm feeling comfortable enough with the person I'm with (I can even look extroverted next to my quieter friends). I also don't have any shame at all when it comes to myself; I can talk about anything weird or rant about my nerdy interests and creepy fixations to the point of becoming obnoxious without giving a damn about the reaction of the other person. I may even enjoy making the other person embarrassed and teasing them, since it's hilarious. Fortunately, I'm good at eliciting interest in others, so oftentimes I can drag them into the abyss of my obsessions and teach them all about it.
   
10. Aside from poetry, my other interests are varied. For instance, I also love reading old books, writing stories, creating original characters and researching whichever area of interest I'm into at the moment. I like to maintain an active lifestyle too. In the future, I strive to become financially successful (that's why I'm in a career that is going to bring me a lot of opportunities), independent, and travel and learn as much as I can to improve both myself and my talents. I'm overall a very individualistic person, but I'd like to meet more people who align with my values as well; without at least someone by my side with whom I can share myself I become depressed.

Day 2 Review:
I really felt the poison-cravings today. My day was spent performing chores and adventuring into my city's botanical gardens. The weather today was wild; oscillating between extremely chilly windy/rainy and a chilly summer day. This matched my own hunger pangs enough; At some points, i felt fine while other times i felt a deep gnawing within me.
Curse this addiction to poison!
Comrades, I really do believe this "sugaUHF" our brothers/sisters in humanity eat is poison. The gluttonous jabba-like appearance is a clear indicator of that, but i suspect a myriad of hidden effects are also taking place. My sleep and general psyche was transformed today, i did not feel tired at all.
Moreover, My cravings also seemed to have made me hyper-vigilant. Whilst walking along the river-side in the botanical garden; i couldn't help but notice the myriad of candy/UHF stores. The little bodegas, the ice-cream stands, the 7/11's, the donut stores!
Every fucking corner was calling for me to enter and engage in a ritual akin to japanese seppuku!
But i digress!
Today, i succeeded in keeping the enemies at bay. My breakfast was eggs, my lunch was chicken breast and my dinner was lamb-off cuts coupled with a few eggs. All my food was cooked in a tea spoon of butter and a frying pan; i plan to use my oven in the near future.
The key thing to take-away from today is that i felt good. I've wasted so many years feeling bad, let's keep this up and pray Ar-Rovince blesses us with strength and vitality.

I’ve recently been spending a lot of time in the older games since once Pokemon bank shuts down, there will be a ton of legendary and mythical Pokemon that are locked behind the paywall of Pokemon Go…
I saw a YouTuber named Trails Pokemon and they inspired me to set out on a journey to try and catch all the Shiny Mythical and legendary Pokémon in the older games, so I could have unique ribbons and markings on them! I really wanted to do all of this in hardware though so I decided to see what I could do to try and get my favorite mythical Mew, and Celebi shiny before they become incredibly hard to get if Game freak doesn't port these games to VC on the Switch / Switch 2 which I feel like if they were going to do they'd of done already.

I figured I’d start with the first two generations, Pokémon Red and Blue to get a shiny Mew, and Pokemon Gold and Silver to get a shiny Celebi. Both of these are awesome shinies, and I missed out on the Pokemon Go Masterwork research for them… so this was my only chance to get them. I was going to be working on doing the 8F Glitch, and the Coin case glitch to get them. I am pretty familiar with the Missingno glitch in gen 1 but that’s about the only glitch I’ve ever done until attempting this.
Thankfully I had already beat Pokemon Blue in a Hardcore Nuzlocke I had done earlier in the year. So I booted up my copy of Blue, and went to catch all of the legendary Pokémon, because if I’m making a transferable, good enough for Austin John Shiny Mew, I might as well make everything shiny right?
Once I caught the legendary birds, Mewtwo, and finally Mew, I then had to to some prep work:

• Catch evolve it into Parasect.
• Use the ditto glitch to catch Arbok using a Pokemon when I do the warp glitch than encounter ditto that has 108 special to get Ekans to spawn. (since it’s not in red natively) evolve it into Arbok. • Catch a Pidgey that I’ll need a lot later but this will need to be at 233 Hp, total Hp does not matter, current Hp needs to be 233.

Now it’s time to obtain my items I need for the 8F glitch, this uses Missingno, if you don’t know how to do the Missingno Glitch there are lots of videos. But briefly, if you speak to the catch tutorial man in viridian city, watch him catch Weedle, fly to cinnabar island and surf along the coastline you will encounter a Missingno among other Pokemon. M and Missingno are the two new needs. Whenever you encounter them they increase the item value by 128, so if you have 1 it would make it 1+128 or 129 in your inventory.

Once I have obtained all of these items, place them in your Pc. I make sure to clean my pc out of redundant items, because we need to make sure there is still room for one more item later to complete this. Now I put all of these items into my pc, along with my Masterball to keep it all safe.
Now I go buy an X special, and make sure I have 7 items in my inventory making sure to have a Masterball in slot 7. And my x accuracy in slot 6.

Making sure I have a Pokémon with fly and surf in my party. Perform the Missingno glitch, once I encounter Missingno use X Special twice, use the Masterball to catch Missingno, and you should now have 255 X Special in your inventory.
With this part complete, now I move my X special to slot 3 in my inventory, and toss my first two items, this duplicates my X special. Now I start tossing stacks of X Special until there is only two scrollable spots in my inventory. Then I toss 253 specials which does some crazy things with my inventory, then swap item one with item 2 in my box, then swap them back. Now I had activated item under flow which is what I need to be able to obtain 8F.
Now I fly to Celadon city and go to the right, 1 step before the route changes. Now I toss my entire stack of X specials in slot 1, press select and pick the x special left, and scroll down into the item under flow until I find a nugget. The. I press select there to swap the nugget for the x special.
Now I walk 5 steps right, 5 steps down, and 20 steps to the right, press select on the first item, and scroll down into the item under flow, until I find 8F, press select and swap them. (This part is super sketchy. I was so worried I was going to crash my game and lose my save file here but we freaking did it!)
Now not touching anything in the menu and NOT using 8F I fly back to Cinnabar island, and deposit 8F into the pc, making sure to ONLY deposit 8F. Close the pc save, and reset my game. Now I have the 8F item! Huzzah!!
This is the first step but it felt so good to get this, it looks like the game is breaking while you’re doing this because it pretty much is lol, but if you follow the steps it works easily.
Now I deposit my x special and withdraw all of the items we set up earlier.

And setup my Pokémon I had prepared earlier:

Now with my party set up, and my items in the appropriate order (I checked like 12 times lol) I made my Mew from GF with the OT ID 22796. But this was only part one, now I needed to make it Shiny!
To set this up I needed to change everything around. I deposit my Mew into my pc into box slot one, moving all of my other Pokemon from the box mew is in into box 2 so I only had Mew in my Box 1.
I then go to the safari zone and catch a Kangaskhan.
With Kangaskhan on my team it now looks like this

3. Onix
4. Tentacool
5. Kangaskan

With my party of avengers Pokemon assembled, now I needed to get my bag set up. This includes changing up lots of items. So I deposit unneeded items into my pc

Now with everything set up, I go to my PC, double checking all of my items and my Pokémon team is correct. Then use 8F with 178 X Accuracy, drop 1 X Accuracy, and then use 8F again with 177 X Accuracy again. Now I check my Mew and all its stats have changed. And my HP stat goes beyond the hp bar but I fix this issue by going to nurse Joy and healing my Pokémon in the Pokémon center.
With this power in my hands, I then made my Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, and Mewtwo Shiny. I also decided to make my Blastoise Johnathan shiny as well, which was my ace in my Nuzlocke run that died in the very last battle against Gary. I felt like it had earned its spot as a shiny that I could transfer to generation 9’s Scarlet and Violet.
Phewwwwwwwwwe generation 1 done… Now I need to do generation 2.. so I start out on a fresh copy of Pokemon silver and pick my boy Totodile (it's my fave starter so I of course have to pick it) name him Lyle and then proceed through the rest of the game to beat the Elite 4. During my journey from Littleroot town, I had a couple goals in this game.

1. I need to get Shiny Celebi, and the 1/8192 encounter rate wasn’t the ticket, with an unknown end date to bank I needed to get it much sooner.
2. Catch all of the legendary beasts shiny
3. Get the legendary duo Ho-Oh and Lugia Shiny
4. Make Lyle the Feraligatr shiny

Getting the Coin Case Glitch
Now I have actually never done any glitches in Pokemon Silver or gold ever so this will be my first attempt… I wipe the floor with Lance and my super OP Feraligatr. Then start setting up to get everything I need.
The first thing I snag is the namesake, the coin case. I go down into the underground in Goldenrod city and find the Coin Case that will allow us to actually perform this glitch. With Coin Case in hand, I head off to get TM27 Return from the Market top floor, this TM can only be gotten on Sunday though and if you have high friendship with the lead Pokemon, it's possible to change your date and time and it was a Thursday when I started to initiate this, so I changed my in game time and day so you don’t have to wait (https://legendarypkmn.net/pass/) Then I went off to Then off to Ilex forest to get TM02 Headbutt.
With this done, it’s now time to set up my avengers team, so I catch a Wooper, and Evolve it into Quagsire. I teach it Surf so it knows 4 moves, then teach it TM 27 Return as its first move. Once complete I hand it TM02 headbutt to hold (Do not teach it Headbutt it should be a held item). Catch a flying Pokemon, which I ended up snagging one of my favorite regional birds HootHoot. And finally a slide pokemon. So I learned that a slide Pokemon is one with Low DV’s, low friendship and is low level. Through doing this glitch three times, the best Pokemon I found was catching a Bellsprout outside of Violet city, then trade it to someone in the city for an Onix named Rocky, this Onix works every time you run this glitch (for me it has anyways) and makes this harder part of doing the glitch easy.
Now it was time to get my change pokemon so I caught 6 pokemon on Victory road to use as my pokemon I’ll be changing. Multiple Golbats, Donphan etc.
Once complete this is what my party looks like

3. My Slide Pokemon in my case Rocky the Onix
4. Quagsire with Return as its first move, and holding TM02 Headbutt

Using this guide on Bulbapedia I select the box layout that I need to have set up to run these codes to get my desired outcome. I figured I’d try with Celebi first. https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Coin_Case_glitches
I change my box to match for Celebi, fly to cherry Grove city and enter the Mart. Save the game, walk out of the mart taking 4 steps to the right, opening my pokedex on Bellsprout to hear its cry, then use the coin case after switching pockets in my inventory. It glitches out my game, but after I save it the issue is fixed.
Now my Pokemon in Slot 1 is extremely broken. If I encounter anything it looks like a Celebi, but on the menu it still looks like a Golbat.
With my broken Golbat I head over to the Daycare in Goldenrod and deposit my Pokemon, here you either pay a ton of money to get your Pokemon out, or 100 pokedollars. I found if you take one step down, then walk straight out, turn right back around and enter, he only charges you 100 Poke dollars, it worked several times when I did this so hopefully if you do this it does for you as well. Once I get my Golbat back it is now a Celebi! But its not legal to transfer to home… yet anyways.
I head to Blackthorn to delete all of my Celebi’s moves that it doesn’t know legitimately, and use TMs to teach it moves it does, if you didn’t nickname your Pokemon is actual name too I would use the name rater to change the name to whatever Pokemon you changed it too.
I then proceeded to do this Glitch multiple times to obtain:
Entei
Suicune
Raikou
Ho-Oh
Lugia
Celebi (Tink)
With all of the Pokemon I was looking for obtained now it was time to turn them shiny! So I use the Bulbapedia guide again change my box names to match those of changing the shiny pokemon, https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Coin\_Case\_glitches. And keep my part composition the same.

1. Pokemon we are changing
2. Flying Pokemon
3. My Slide Pokemon in my case Rocky the Onix
4. Quagsire with Return as its first move, and holding TM02 Headbutt

Then run the coin case glitch again doing the same as above, this changes the Pokemon in slot 1 to its shiny variant! I do this multiple times, for all 6 legendaries, then to Feraligatr, and Nidoking as well. I love Nidoking shiny, it looks so freaking cool imo.
Now the last thing I needed to do was to get the Pokemon to the correct levels as a lot of these Pokemon are under the level cap that will flag as a legitimate Pokemon… so I run about 8 hrs of Elite 4 runs, and eventually get the Pokemon to the required level they need to be.
Celebi - Lvl 30
Entei - Lvl 40
Suicune - Lvl 40
Raikou - Lvl 40
Lugia - Lvl 40
Ho-Oh - Lvl 40
The fastest way to do this if I had to to do it over again, would be to change Pokemon I caught in Mount Silver, vs Pokemon on Victory Road, as Pokemon in Mt Silver are over 40, so all you would have to do is change the Pokemon itself, delete its moves, and then it would be ready to go.
Lyle the Feraligatr will live forever with me now in the current games, and so will all of these awesome legendary Pokemon.
With all of this work done, It was finally time to transfer these pokemon up to Generation 9, this was pretty time consuming. It took about 70-75 hrs to beat both games and perform the glitches / learn what I needed to do. But it was super rewarding to get them into Pokemon scarlet and Violet. The Coin case glitch is leagues easier than the 8F glitch as you can see, and way less stressful. I wasn’t worried about my game blowing up to smithereens lol. Especially with this being the first time I had ever manipulated a Pokemon game to get more out of it then just extra rare candies to level up my Pokemon
As far as the future holds, Gen 3 and Gen 4 have some opportunities as well so I will be looking at those games next! Cannot wait to get going on them!

Not showing yet, still nauseous upon waking up in the AM, but I also wake up at around 2-3AM every night to pee then I get SUPER hungry and can't sleep. I've been drinking boost protein shakes to hold me over till I can have a solid-ish breakfast.
So far the worst symptoms have been severe food aversions and nausea in the AM and whenever I go too long without eating, but I'm so so so over the nausea, truly. Weeks 6-12 were horrible, the nausea was debilitating - I couldn't do much of anything without gagging over and over. Threw up only ONCE, when I had a frozen fruit smoothie. I think I drank it too quick in the morning before work, I went to take a shower and threw up all over myself lol - thank God I was already in the shower.

• I tried several remedies that you see online to minimize nausea , ginger chews, nausea bands around the wrist, ginger soda, b6, smelling lemon/limes, drinking water with lime, etc NOTHING helped. Seriously nothing. Doctor said to try a half tab of unisom at night with b6, I said sure, but truthfully haven't tried it cause I don't want to be dependent on it. Like if it DOES help, do I have to keep taking it to keep the nausea at bay? If so, I rather deal with the nausea.

I cannot stand relying on anything for pain or other symptoms , same with Tylenol, I've had 2-3 headaches throughout the pregnancy and have only taken Tylenol once - I just can't bring myself to be reliant on something when I know it can usually resolve itself. Idk if it makes me a kind of masochist or just plain dumb - but unless it's an absolute emergency I'll suck up the pain. Luckily the headaches were minor, the nausea sucked really bad.*
Meanwhile I know a woman who is pregnant at all and she'll take unisom in a heartbeat to not deal with then nausea - guess we're all just different.
Please tell me it gets better! I'm now 14 weeks and 4 days and I need to get this nausea to go away completely. It's not so debilitating anymore and I can get to work in the mornings without gagging (but being a passenger when my husband drive SUCKS - I get nauseous quicker when I'm not driving) the problem is prior to this I was never, ever a huge snacker - in fact I would intermittent fast since I work a mostly desk job. Now, trying to eat a snack every hour or so is SO difficult, especially with the food aversions - not even crackers help me or pretzels - the crunchy dry texture makes me gag. Trying to stay away from any unhealthy items like potato chips and candy. Ugh, it's not easy physically AND mentally.
I can deal with the food aversions - not the nausea. I used to workout 5-6 days a week with moderate lifting and fast incline walking on the treadmill and it's all been reduced to small, slow daily walks. My mental health took a bit of a toll weeks 6-12 - but as the nausea lessend I came out of the dark.
Husband has been supportive and helpful, almost to the point where I wonder how I got so lucky to have him - I have 0 complaints. I'm so grateful to be having a child with him - I hope it takes on every single wonderful quality of his - which is like, A LOT. ❤️
So I'm at the point now where I can feel more excited but baby has been kicking my ass with the hormones and nausea , we don't know the gender yet as we are waiting results from Natera (blood drawn 5/14) expected results 5/29.
Fun but weird info? Weeks 6-8 I BINGE watched Outlander HARD. So hard. I actually couldn't watch anything else because it felt too "stimulating" and would make me gag hard - but Outlander was the ONLY show that calmed me down and got me through those weeks. Thank you Claire and Jamie Fraser - I love you both so much (Jamie just a bit more cause he is just sooooooooooo sexy omg)
Then after outlander at week 9 it was Hunger Games Trilogy on repeat (had read the books and watched it a long time ago but I just NEEDED to watch it again like 10 times) I have no idea why I needed to watch them but it was a need, not a want. I loved the slow growing love between Kat and Peeta.
Something about needing to watch romance weeks 6-12 was the only thing that got me through the terrible nausea? My husband was dying of laughter when he woke up in the AMs to me watching hunger games, AGAIN. I was ike dude idk but I need to watch it lol. Can anyone explain the urge to watch romance on screen?

Like aside from it being an insane waste of money, it just feels wrong to throw away food that has never been opened but gone bad because I forgot about it for too long. Also disgusting because I don't want to have a pack of fluffy strawberries in my fridge.
Idk even if I put, lets say a bunch of apples or a loaf of bread, right were I can see them in the kitchen I will just not think about eating it and go to to grocery store to buy something else instead. Happens with food that can't go bad (like candy) too but in that case the half eaten packages just keep piling up. I tried to only buy what I need for 2 or 3 days but then I buy too much random shit because I'm too frequently at the grocery store. I tried writing a list and only buy what's on that list but I just can't bring myself to write that damn list, it's like nails on a chalkboard. Idk how to solve this.
(Also idk if I have adhd, I'm getting checked for it. But that's one of the problems that made me get checked and that I need to solve regardless of if I have adhd or not)

I was gaining so much weight. Went on a keto diet, lost the weight, read some things on this subreddit saying keto is just simple CICO, and couldn't believe it. I ate some cake for desert at dinner and stayed in my calorie deficit I've been doing... I didn't gain weight.
I probably lost weight from the tears flowing when I was actually able to have cake for the first time in months. I'm starting to realize keto is kind of my worst nightmare. Let me eat cake!!!
Ok... but I was barely eating anything before trying serious dieting. I was "counting calories" before and still gaining weight. Some days I would just eat a small frozen spaghetti meal that was 200 calories! Wait, 200 calories PER serving? 4 servings per meal? And I ate 3 of them a day? Oh. Oh damn. That's 2400 calories a day. And my maintenance calories are 1300 a day.
This realization hit me like a bus. I guess glancing at the back of a package and seeing "200 calories" on whatever and eating it mayyybeeee wasn't the way to go.
Also, when going grocery shopping today as my first day ditching keto I had no idea what to get after I forgot what my favorite foods are. I looked on my past HEB curbside orders and my jaw dropped. It was all ice cream and pizza and chocolate and candy. Like that's all I ate. "but it's only 200 calories!" PER SERVING dumbass. And all the calories were from sugar and bad carbs.
I was so concerned about how bad I was gaining weight I literally went to the doctor to get my thyroid checked. Nope I was just eating trash when I was bored. How did I even function surviving on that?
I am laughing at myself.
Edit: Just remembered how I used to chug giant "veggie smoothies" to lose weight. Holy SHIT I just actually looked at the nutrition label. Life lesson: don't trust things just because they're green. That shit was like 99% sugar. Laughing again

It is important to note, that many of the stories within the Metamorphoses are extremely violent and, depending on your translation, graphic in nature. There are many instances of on-page sexual violence and rape, so please be aware of this before reading. Unfortunately, I haven’t read this text before, so I can’t provide you guys with a more detailed list of warnings or of when said things happen within the text. I wish I could. If anyone has read this text before and would like to help me with adding content warnings, please leave a comment below or DM me.
Aside from this, the Metamorphoses is seen as accessible for modern readers. I have a translation guide available here, which provides some info on which translations are more graphic than others. Please note that every translation will contain some references to the violence in the original text. This is a good thing, in terms of preserving history but may not be comfortable for some readers, which is understandable.
Ovid:
Publius Ovidius Naso aka Ovid was born in 43 BCE and lived until 17CE. This means that he was born during the final years of the Roman Republic and lived most of his life during the early years of the Roman Empire. He was born to an old and wealthy family. He began writing quite young and was a celebrated poet for most of his adult life. He started out writing romantic poetry and then moved into more ambitious (and subversive) styles. He was famous during his lifetime, which was kind of his downfall – the Emperor, Augustus, exiled him in 8CE. We don’t know what he did to anger Augustus specifically, but it was enough to get Ovid exiled to a place called Tomis for the rest of his life. There are some theories that Ovid was associated with someone who helped Augustus’ granddaughter in her adultery, but we will never know for sure. It appears that Ovid spent his last few years writing in Tomis, with some hope that the publication of more of his work could lead to Augustus forgiving him. That didn’t happen, but Ovid did complete the entire Metamorphoses, which has gone on to be a major source of what we know about the Greco/Roman mythos for generations. It also appears that, unlike with Virgil's Aeneid, Augustus had little to no chance at interfering with the work (as it was complete upon Ovid's death). Which is a major plus, in terms of us getting to read what the author intended us to read.
The Metamorphoses:
The Metamorphoses is a long narrative poem that is split over fifteen books. The poem is extremely ambitious in its scope: from the creation of the world to Ovid’s lifetime. The main thing that links all the stories together is the theme (and title) of the text: transformation (Metamorphoses). As mentioned in the last section, Ovid was an acclaimed poet and a master in his craft. In the Metamorphoses, Ovid plays around and even deconstructs the myths and the poetic styles that have come before. So, even though the overall text is very pro-Rome, I think it is fair to say that, from a technical and story standpoint, the overall work is subversive. It has had a huge influence on other writers and artists since the time it was published.
A lot of myths are included within these books so it would be hard for me to list them all here. However, some of the best-known versions of the myths come from the Metamorphoses such as the tragic story of Medusa, the birth and early life of the god Bacchus (aka Dionysus) and tales like the story of Atalanta. The poem also covers some myths we are familiar with here on the sub, such as the story of Jason and the Argonauts and the Trojan War. It will be interesting to read Ovid’s more Roman-centric perspective of this older myths.
Due to this text being written by a Roman poet, the names of the gods and many of the heroes are different here than in the other (Greek era) texts we have read. Here’s a link to a breakdown of the major name changes.
After we finish the Metamorphoses, we will be reading Natalie Haynes book Pandora's Jar, which is a modern collection of essays that focus on the portrayal of women within the Greek mythos.
