In the vast countryside, away from the busy city of Savannah, exist hills as tall as buildings and green as emeralds. There was also an aura of calmness, with a few birds twittering away in dispersed trees, followed by the gentle swaying of the wind.
Then, out of nowhere, came a small, lonely girl wearing a once-lily-white summer dress with a striped long-sleeved t-shirt underneath it. She was also wearing a dark blue and cream-white baseball hat with the letter D on the front of it. She was moving wearily, with a pistol in one hand, and wiping her damp eyes with the other.
She knew what happened to make her weep. According to her, it was her fault that she got him killed; she was convinced by a towering man who said he knew her parents. But that was a brainless, childish lie that got Lee killed. She shouldn’t have run off. At least, Lee taught her how to use a gun and what to expect in the future before his tragic passing. But now she was all on her own.
Eventually, she came to a log, which was next to the rusted shell of a car. Anyway, she proceeded to sit down on it. Throughout all of this, she was as quiet as a mouse, only looking at her feet and wiping her blood-red eyes. She noticed that on the floor next to the log was a mixture of bullets—some shell casings and some unfired ones. Out of curiosity, she picked it up and examined it before exhaling deeply, which is when she noticed something else. Something she could just about make out if she scrutinised her eyes—something on the nearest hill—looked like two figures. One followed the other, and they looked like they stopped to look at her, making her start to hyperventilate as her eyes extended to the size of oranges. Was it someone she knew? Was it a threat to her? She didn’t know.
"Lee said I needed to find Omid and Christa before he got killed because of me." She said to herself, still looking sad, as she noticed that the two figures were now coming down the prominent hill—they didn't look like walkers. So she clasped her gun tightly until the figures came into view. She ended up not firing the gun and running towards the figures, as it was Omid and Christa, and they were alive!
Omid was a tall, slim Persian-American man with short dark-brown hair and a beard to match.
Christa, on the other hand, was a slightly taller African-American lady. She also had jet-black hair tied up in a ponytail, and she was Omid’s girlfriend.
"Clementine, honey, where's Lee?" Christa asked, kneeling to the nine-year-old.
"H-h-he's...dead." She answered with her face buried in Christa’s shoulder.
"Oh, Clementine, we’re sorry," Omid said, who started to kneel to her height as well.
"W-where's Ben and Kenny?" Clementine asked, still with her face buried in Christa’s shoulder.
Omid and Christa then looked at each other without Clementine noticing, and it was Omid who told her what happened to Ben and Kenny.
"So, it’s just us three," Clementine responded, now looking at Omid and Christa with her eyes dry again, a short while later.
"I guess, Clem, I guess so." Christa replied, "Come on, let’s go somewhere safe."
With this, the trio (Clementine, Omid, and Christa) began to walk, with Clementine tagging behind while Omid and Christa were in front. They were busily talking away, apart from Clementine, who was still looking at her feet, along holding the gun in her hand. As a result of this, she wasn't engaged in the conversation that they were having. She was too melancholy about what happened today. With her being kidnapped, seeing her walker parents, Lee dying, and now Kenny and Ben dying as well.
It was a lot for her to take in.
* * * * *
Sometime later, the trio found an abandoned house that had been abandoned for decades, as thick ivy hugged the walls. Furthermore, it reminded Clementine of that house they stayed at in Savannah; it was hard to believe that was a month ago.
Anyway, they succeeded in getting into the house rather than struggling, so now they could search within it.
Clementine, honey," Christa said, kneeling to her. "Omid, and I believe you can search parts of this house on your own. Just remember, if someone, walker or not, tries to hurt you, you got your gun. If you run out of bullets or are in a tight place, call us, and we will help you if you get into trouble. Do you understand?"
“Yeah, I do, Christa; I will be careful."
“Good," replied Christa, "let me know if you find anything."
With this, Clementine strayed a little by searching for anything useful on her own, though she stayed close to Omid and Christa.
As usual in the kitchen, she found faded, rusted cans with nothing but spoiled food inside. So she decided to head upstairs, and it seemed like they creaked with every step; as Omid and Christa were searching the enormous living room. Once she was upstairs, she clasped her pistol tightly and opened the door with one of her hands and the other on the pistol. Nothing. The room was that of a bathroom, with its normal interior—a bath, sink, toothbrushes, and some cupboards—which was stripped of life.
So she closed the door, walked to the next door, and proceeded to open it in the same manner she did for the bathroom. This room was that of a child’s room, which made Clementine remember her room back in Georgia, with its toys and books. It felt like she was just coming home from school and wanted to play with her dolls until supper time; it was hard to believe that was a year ago. Yet, here she was searching for anything useful in terms of survival—and not searching for a certain toy she wanted to play with at present.
“Just as well Lee found me when he did.” She said to herself as she glanced over at the room, trying to remember simpler times. When she went to school, she watched cartoons all day and rode her bike in the park with her parents. When she was thinking about this, she noticed that there was a medium-sized lump near the wall, cloaked in dust. It was a doll, and there was a string attached to its back, and when Clementine pulled it, it produced the word "Mama”.
Clementine remembered the doll that her mother gave her for her sixth birthday; it was probably still in the back of the wardrobe.
Eventually, she found an old pocket-sized backpack with a few flowery stickers, along with a dark-blue hoodie in her size.
“Have you found anything, Clementine?” called out Christa.
“Yeah, a backpack and a hoodie," answered Clementine, walking towards the edge of the stairs where Omid and Christa were.
“Just remember to check the bag, Clem; they might have something useful." Replied Christa.
“Ok," Clementine replied, unzipping the bag and then putting her hand into it, but not looking into it. Lo and behold, she found a working lighter, and it looked like it had a decent amount of fuel for a while.
Clementine then walked to the conclusive door upstairs, and like what she did before, however, the door required a little exertion to open. As a result of this, Clementine noticed that the noise she made alerted her to the presence of a walker heading towards her. This, of course, made Clementine a little timid, but she knew what to do. As her heart started to ram against her ribcage, likewise, a thick seal of sweat began to form on her hands, transferring onto her gun.
Always aim for the head," Clementine said to herself as she exhaled deeply and fired the gun. BANG!! The walker fell with a deafening thud, and Clementine was astounded at herself for shooting the walker that was coming towards her.
I did it, I did it," she exclaimed in a loud whisper. Which is when the door bursts open to reveal Omid and Christa with perturbed faces.
"Is everything OK, Clem? Are you hurt?" Asked Omid.
Yeah, I’m fine; I’m not hurt. Replied Clementine, as the trio all stood in stupefied silence at the walker that Clementine gunned down. "Did you find anything? Clementine asked after a minute of silence.
"Yes. We have found two cans of beans and some water." Christa replied.
"Oh."
“Well, let’s keep moving on, Clem. People might have heard the shot and might come here.” Omid said.
“Ok," responded Clementine. "I said already, but I found a backpack and a hoodie."
“Put it on, Clem; it’s starting to get colder, and we get going."
“Ok, I’ll put it on now."
Clementine then took off her hat, gave the gun to Omid, put on the dark blue hoodie, put her hat back on, and took the gun back from Omid. After that, Clementine followed Christa and Omid downstairs and out of the house and walked on.
* * * * *
Some short weeks later, the trio now situated in a substantial-sized forest under a thick canopy of leaves with Omid tending to a fire. Clementine and Christa, however, were sitting down on some nearby log around the fire.
Christa was busy talking to Omid about her pregnancy, whereas Clementine was busy herself by looking at the stars. The stars flickered and danced in the sky like a million tiny flames, casting a shimmering glow over the forest below. Furthermore, the sky itself was filled with low oranges, along with a mixture of light blues. Which were progressively getting into the realms of dark blues, purples and then full-on jet-black. Moreover, there seemed to be a chorus of crickets hiding somewhere in lush grasses, chirping away harshly.
“I would say that rabbit is cooked now, Omid.”
“Oh, right, yeah,” replied Omid, as he began to take the cooked rabbit off the spit – and handed it out to Christa and Clementine, then to himself.
"Thank you very much," Clementine said as she reached for the rabbit meat before going back to look at the stars. She thought to herself as she ate: "How many are there? Hundreds? Thousands? Millions?"
“Hm, what – sorry Christa; what did you say?”
“Omid and I said that we are going to rest here tonight and get going in the morning."
"Ok, as my legs still ache from all that walking we did today."
"Well, get some rest, you're going to need it," Omid said, rising from poking the fire.
"Ok," responded Clementine, getting up from the weather-worn log, wishing Omid and Christa a good night before she got onto the floor near the fire and began to close her eyes. She then began to dream about what she would be doing tomorrow, what would happen, and what she would see.
The next morning was filled with colours ranging from warm yellows trickling through the gaps in the trees. Clementine rubbed her eyes before getting up from the harsh, tough ground and walked to the log where she sat last night, where she saw Omid was cooking again.
"Morning, Clem," Omid said. "How did you sleep?"
"Ok, I'd rather sleep in a bed than on the floor."
"Yeah, I don't like it either, but it's necessary until we get to Wellington."
"Where's Christa?" asked Clementine, now looking around the campsite as she noticed Christa wasn't there.
But then, five minutes later, after Clementine had eaten, Christa came back - and with this, the trio began to walk on; with her now near Omid and Christa. Yet, like last time, Clementine's fingers were still wrapped around her pistol as if it were a part of her. But instead of looking at her feet, she was looking around the pensive clearing.
The clearing was serene, where only a few walkers were roaming around, but they could be seen more evidently through a few hacked trees. The trio strolled down the lane through dappled light filtering itself through the trees; moreover, the sound of the leaves rustled in the weak wind. There was also an occasional bird twittering away on a pile of stacked logs near the broad track Clementine, Omid, and Christa were walking. There was also an infrequent number of signs that littered the road.
"TWO MILES UNTIL TRUCK STOP", Clementine read as she walked on with Omid and Christa.
"How about...Isabella?" Christa said aloud.
"Nah," scoffed Omid, "James is far better."
"That's if it's a boy, Omid. Clementine, do you have any name ideas?"
"What about...Carley?"
"Yeah, that's a good name." Responded Omid, with an expression of puzzled thought in his voice.
For the next couple of miles, they (primarily, Christa and Omid) talked about what seemed to be endless baby names for Christa's child; to pass the time. Clementine wondered if her parents had this amount of difficulty when they chose her name.
Eventually, Clementine stopped a little as Omid and Christa walked on regardless; as she noticed there was a blackbird perched on a nearby tree which cawed before flying into the lush forest.
"What do you think?" asked Omid, as he poised at the truck stop over the abandoned road before crossing it with Christa and Clementine.
"Omid, you can't be serious," answered Christa.
"I am."
"We are NOT doing that."
"Why not?"
"Because one of you is enough!"

2024.05.17 09:31 Catpack6 Theories for the 1st and 2nd Game

This really only focuses on the light details.
Theory 1, Meh: Amanda could possibly forget her name as she stutters on the good ending VHS (tv explosion loll)
Flaws: A ton of people delay words to effect the delivery of their line
Theory 2, Yoo: BlabBot says, "Do not forget me," possibly implying that he's coming back.
Do not forget BlabBot
Flaws: It could just be nothing. He says weird things anyway.
Theory 3, Hmm: The whole world of Amanda the Adventurer is very unrealistic, so, personally, I think maybe it's a psychological repression thing.
Flaws: Firstly, the games page on Steam has no tags for Psychological Horror. Second, outside the house is relatively realistic, which could prove more about this theory. It's very unrealistic that the player is just attached to the screen, and someone goes in and switches up the puzzles.
Theory 4, bruh: Someone is controlling everything, and we are a mini figure 💀
Flaws: Why would we be a mini-figure.. But this could explain the puzzles moving rapidly.
Theory 5, Hmmm: Once we play the VHS, we're stuck in a time loop, like the game 12 Minutes, when you walk in for the first time, you're stuck in a time loop until you beat the game.
Flaws: Is this already a theory? I think that's what Kate is warning us about in the starting letter.
Theory 6, Hm: Amanda the Adventurer, the VHS tapes, could be adapted into a cartoon, because in the live coffee show VHS, they said something about making the show a cartoon, like hand drawn?
Flaws: I don't know bruh 😭
Theory 7, Honestly prob not: This could be an alternative universe and we're looking into another universe.
Flaws: I don't really know, this is just whatever, it's kinda hard to work with unrealistic type gameplay.
Theory 8, Cory said it: Coryxkenshin on YouTube said that Amanda could be getting killed by the company who manage her. This could be a callback to theory 6.
This is all just light theories and small predictions for the second game. Thank you for reading.

2024.05.17 07:41 PeriodicallyIdiotic Debugging IPv6 Connectivity without v4 DNS server /w Fortinet 60F

Hey all,
If we need to punt this to homelab, or HomeNetworking - that is fine, but I think* it is applicable because some SOHOs will be using similar equipment to me and in researching this information, I wasn't able to figure out the configuration for my exact situation, a lot of this was trial and error, merging a lot of YouTube together.
So I have a pretty standard configuration (I feel like), DHCP v4 address, and request a /56 from my ISP (Spectrum, North Carolina).
Here is the configuration for my WAN interface:
fw # get system interface physical wan1 == [onboard] ==[wan1] mode: dhcp ip: xx.xx.xx.181 255.255.224.0 ipv6: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:13ce:c80:5ad9/128 status: up speed: 1000Mbps (Duplex: full) FEC: none FEC_cap: none fw #
Nothing terribly interesting there, getting a /128 from my upstream provider, and a v4 address within a /19 - sweet. No CGNAT. I request a /56 via a IAPD 5 prefix hint (ID = 5).
At work, we have a client wishing to deploy a v6 only network, pretty scary, I've only done BGP unnumbered, and considering that IPv6 knowledge, well.... So - I decided to throw it on my homelab, what's the worst that could happen.
Here is my WiFi subnet -- because who doesn't want to break their partners internet in the middle of a workday... hah. Anywho.
edit "internal5" set vdom "root" set ip 192.168.95.1 255.255.255.0 set allowaccess ping set type physical set alias "WiFi" set device-identification enable set lldp-reception enable set lldp-transmission enable set role lan set snmp-index 8 config ipv6 set ip6-address xx:xx:xx:cb06::/64 set ip6-allowaccess ping set ip6-send-adv enable config ip6-prefix-list edit xx:xx:xx:cb06::/64 set rdnss 2606:4700:4700::1001 set dnssl "home.mydomain.tld" next end end next
Nothing crazy here, just intending on using SLAAC with Cloudflare (for now) as the DNS provider. I don't have a v6 DNS server deployed yet, moreso just working through some quirks I've noticed thus far and gaining overall familiarity. Not using DHCPv6 Server, as I didn't want to over-complicate things yet. While I would love to deploy the DHCPv6 server so I could stop assigning ::1, ::2, etc to my VMs that I want to transition to v6 and set AAAA DNS records, not in the cards for the homelab in the meantime. Internal DDNS (or whatever v6's equivalent's is) - will happen "soon".
So in hosts that are v4 and v6 enabled, this configuration works great. I can browse the web just fine, I can go to all of the major IPv6 tests and score close to perfect (enabling ICMP in firewall rules to my endpoints, just gives me some anxiety). The problem becomes then when I disable v4. I don't intend on running a native v6 network yet, but that time will come when most of us will be either using none of, or so little of v4 where it becomes a non-importnat focus in our day to days. I wanted to see what that looked like, so I disabled it on my workstation (Mac Mini running Mac OS v13.3.1 -- probably out of date but it's ~fine).
With that in mind, lets verify my routing table, and do some simple MTRs to verify I didn't break anything prior to disabling IPv4.

I am a bit lost here, disabling v4, conceptually doesn't seem like it could create problems, but I imagine you folks have more experience than me. Let me know what you think.
Anyone using Spectrum with a Fortinet firewall, don't even bother with the GUI, model your config on what I have, and/or look at these two awesome resources: https://weberblog.net/basic-ipv6-configuration-on-a-fortigate-firewall/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq_eUqPWJwI

2024.05.17 06:28 Bitter_Mulberry_9154 The Perfect Theory That Explains Everything

To me this is the only theory that accounts for all the crazy things that have gone down on both sides throughout this case:
KR is hammered drunk when she drops JO (fact). In her drunkenness she accidentally runs JO over, killing him. She’s so drunk she doesn’t even notice, drives home, and goes to sleep.
At some point before the famous “hos long to die in cold search,” someone coming in/out of the Albert house sees the body, and goes and alerts the others. They freak out and start trying to revive him. They bring his body inside at carry it down to the basement at one point, and try to see if they can revive him (during this chaos is also when the dog could have chewed on his arm, idk). Nothing works, but no one calls the cops or an ambulance because the family still has no idea what happened, and if any of their loved ones could be at fault.
Realizing he is dead and not coming back, they turn their full attention to trying to figure out what happened. Everyone in the house is dumbfounded, and also keep in mind, they’re all drunk, so it’s chaos. There are moments where Brian Albert shouts at Colin and BH, demanding to know if either of them got in some sort of fight outside with JO without anyone noticing, hurt him (accidentally or not), and just aren’t admitting to it out of fear.
They genuinely have no idea what happened to JO, all they know is they have a beat up dead body on their property, and a big family to protect. Eventually, on account of the broken taillight glass, they figure that someone must have run him over. Who ran him over? Was it on purpose or by accident? They form theories and get in a big classic family shouting/finger pointing match, but in the end they genuinely have no idea and aren’t able to reach any conclusions—because no one ever actually say KR drop him off—but they’re running out of time.
At one point someone in the house suggests that the only scenario they can think of that makes sense is that he was probably the victim of a hit and run by a car or plow while walking up the road to the house (”maybe Karen and him were fighting on the ride over, so she dropped him off at a point sooner than the actual driveway out of pettiness, in/near the road”). After being hit by a car, they figure JO then tried to make it to their front door to get help, but collapsed due to his injuries/internal bleeding sustained during the hit-and-run before he could reach the door. Then after collapsing, either succumbed to his injuries or froze to death because of the cold. At this point, right around 2:27am, they naturally then wonder how long it would even take someone to die in the cold, if that is how he ultimately died—this is the moment that JM makes her famous “hos long” search.
The father Brian realizes that at their current rate, there’s no way they are going to pin down exactly what happened to JO by sunrise. He also realizes that while he’s not sure, there’s at least a possibility that someone in his house—maybe even one if his kids, or at least a beloved friend or other family member—is responsible for what happened in some way he is unaware of currently and won’t find out for awhile. Even if no one in the house is responsible, he knows they could still be viewed as responsible by authorities once there is an inevitable investigation.
Drunk and in panic mode, and worried about all the different ways that JO’s body could be interpreted/misinterpreted authorities in ways that jeopardize his family, the family conspires to do all that they can to limit the ways that the scene before them could be misinterpreted. No one in the family has any qualms about this because after all, they didn’t do anything wrong, they just don’t want to scene to have any possibility of appearing like they did anything wrong. Furthermore, because they are themselves law enforcement and have all the right connections, their egos tell them that they have what it takes to pull off such a conspiracy, and a harmless conspiracy at that. Ironically, this false belief of Brian Albert that, through some light manipulation and due to his experience as a cop, he can do a few small things to create an extra layer of protection for his family, is exactly what has backfired is now currently destroying his family…
I mentioned it before, but here is the KEY DETAIL/ASSUMPTION that this theory is truly built upon: the family, drunk and in panic mode, and attempting confirm whether JO is truly dead and not coming back (and if someone in the house is responsible, CLUE style), carry his body from the road/driveway into their house (out of public view) and down into the basement. Inevitably, blood gets everywhere, all over their basement floor. This is the critical element that creates the panic that makes them feel that conspiring to limit their family risk is truly the best option.
First of all, I don’t know if you dog-owners have ever had a cut on your foot or ankle, but in some random moments in life where I’ve gotten a cut and not even noticed it, my dog almost always finds it first and starts licking it like the little carnivore madman he is… I’m sure you already know what I’m getting at… In all the shouting and screaming and chaos, the Alberts rile up their dog and fail to take their dog into account as they panic-move the bloody body to the basement. In all the commotion, the dog gets extremely excited/overwhelmed, and its primal instinct kicks in and views JOs body as some sort of “Fresh kill from the family hunt.” At one point the dog spazzes out and starts licking the blood a bit and even chomps on JOs lifeless arm like a chew toy. If this sounds far-fetched, you must not be a dog owner, because excited dogs are capable of doing all kinds of wacky actions when they’re in weird and excitable moods, and it only takes a split second.
Anyway, back to what they decide to do. Brian Albert eventually realizes how insanely stupid of a mistake it was to bring JOs body inside their home and into the basement in their panicked/drunken attempt to get him out of the cold and indoors to see if they could revive him/see if he is still alive. They now know JO is truly dead, and now their basement is covered in his blood. Brian panics and realizes how authorities could interpret the blood in the basement in a million not-a-hit-and-run ways—especially because it will look incredibly bad/suspicious that they found the body and did not immediately call police or an ambulance. So, he takes the reigns and tells his family everything they are going to do from here to make everything look as good as possible for them…
First, they need to move the body back outside and into the snow so, at the very least, it goes back to looking like something that happened outside and outside only, thus minimizing the “fight in the basement” look of it and maximizing the “hit by a car” (which is actually what happened) look of it. He also realizes how bad it looks that none of them have contacted authorities about the body as they’ve been panicking trying to make sense of what happened / get on the same page out of their own self-interest, so Brian Albert also instructs everyone (or whoever is still at the house at this point, because by now they’ve started creating their timelines of coming/going and sending various ppl—Colin, etc.—home to protect them) that once they’ve brought the body outside, they are all going to act as if no one ever saw the body.
Also, by now they’ve all realized that it is 95% likely that it was KR who ran JO over when she was shitfaced. This is when they decide to have Jen McCabe go over in the AM to have her “help” KR find the body. They want KR to be the first person to appear to find the body, realize what she’s done, and then this will be the simplest/cleanest scenario. Why? Because if they decide to have it play out that someone at the Albert’s finds the body, it’s going to become impossibly complicated for all of them maintain the same story/timelines etc. of everything that transpired before/after that moment (exs. all of them telling each other one by one, chains of texts, calls, etc. telling various people, mini interactions of made up conversations that they would have to invent and keep track of, all of them “waking up” and alerting their families, and all the while trusting their acting skills in their current drunken/exhausted/emotional state, etc.). So, they make a calculated risk that they could sell the “we never noticed the body” story, and it would be a betteeasier story for them, and it’s of course the story they’re still sticking with now as they’ve taken the stand.
However, we know now, the “let’s just all act like we never found the body and have Karen ‘find it’ in the AM” strategy has backfired horribly, because they have failed to sell several parts of their testimonies/timelines (ex. J Nagel’s ”black blob,” line, etc) relating to several of them somehow driving/walking right past the body of grown man in the snow and not noticing it.
Anyway, this theory of mine is the only one I can think of that accounts for all the evidence, as well as everyone’s behavior throughout the trial. I think everyone has gotten too caught up in the false dichotomy of:
  1. JO never made it inside the house + Karen ran JO over with the car and killed him
  2. JO made it into the house, where someone or multiple people at the house (and dog) beat JO to death + now the McAlberts are bending over backwards to keep their stories straight.
To me it’s an obvious combination of the two, just leaving out the vicious basement beating part
No one beat JO to death. KR accidentally ran him over while driving slowly, but then the car dragged him as she drove (extremely common in hit and runs), and in a manner that produced his specific head injuries, killing him. She had no idea she was dragging his body for many yards. Someone coming in/out of the Albert’s find his body with zero context, launching the family into a frenzy as they try to figure out what happened and what to do about it to minimize the likelihood of their getting in trouble—they drunkenly decided to play God with their inflated townie egos—a product of their combined law enforcement experience, political connections, and blood-alcohol levels, when they should have just immediately called the cops.
The events unfold as described above, and, critically, they make the wrong decision to create their own McAlbert-family story of how it went down when they become afraid that their now bloody basement could make it look like they murdered him—especially the bad optics of the crowd given that (a) Colin is a meathead with a history of playing tough-guy as a teenager and (b) Brian Higgins allegedly/maybe had some sort of thing going on with KR.
This theory would explain all of the following:
In the end, upon finding JO’s body, The McAlberts tried to doctor some details and alter some timelines to make the whole case that much cleaner and give themselves some extra protection from scrutiny, the law, and (probably most importantly to them) to protect their precious reputations in Canton as powerful townies.
Of course, it is a rich irony that the very thing they were trying to prevent—people think that some of their family beat JO to death—is now exactly the theory that most of public is now leaning towards, now that they have taken the stand and all their suspect testimony, self-contradictions, and inexplicable behavior are on full display. Even more ironically, not only have they trashed their own reputations, they (along with Turtle Boy & co.) have inadvertently turned Karen into a cult hero—a small but brave woman stoically taking on not just lies and false accusation of her boyfriend’s murder, but the corruption of the Boston Police department at large.
And, on a more meta level, I think this theory also explains why KR carries herself the way she does. She knows she hit JO, and she feels terrible deep down, but at the same time, she’s always disliked the McAlberts and how special and untouchable they’ve always acted—big, corrupt fish in a small Canton pond. So, she finds comfort in knowing that even thought they didn’t kill JO, some bad people are still being exposed for the entitled liars and townie dumdums that they are. She also knows that she’s not really at any risk of being convicted at this point (unless the jury actually shocks the world), and she’s enjoying the spotlight and cult hero status that people like Turtle Boy have created for her.

2024.05.17 06:25 Bitter_Mulberry_9154 The Perfect Theory That Explains Everything

2024.05.17 05:50 spiroaki For Science! Portable pc for up to 5 Gbps video recording + VNC

I'm a scientist with only a moderately better than random person understanding of computers. I've been paralyzed trying to figure out if I really understand what my experimental setup is asking of the "data computer" as I will call it. Here is what I need this computer to do:
Form: I have been debating between a NUC and a laptop, or maybe just a very small but not mini PC. I basically want the "cheapest decent thing". I have built my own desktop from scratch before so I'm fine with building. Can I do something like the cheap Intel Nuc "barebones" kits do you think? Or will the lack of a GPU be a problem? I think I am most confused on the point of how many and what kind of CPU/GPU are really needed. I do like the small size of the NUC type computers but I am starting to feel like you pay a premium for it that maybe isn't worth it.
Disk: The data volumes will be large, but are immediately moved to a NAS at the end of the sessions, so a disk of 1-2 TB should be fine. I would obviously need an SSD but that's pretty standard on most NUC/laptop computers. NVMe is nice but not required.
Budget is in the range of $200-$500. If we can stay on the low end that would be great, but I do need this to actually work.
Edited to add: this computer really doesn't need to do anything else. (No data analysis, etc). Just operate and record.

2024.05.17 05:43 QQlemonzest First Marathon: BMO Vancouver May 5th

Its a little late but here’s a report about my first marathon.
BMO Vancouver Marathon
Chip Time: 3:53:34
Goals: A) 3:45 ❌ B) 4:00 ✅ C) Finish! ✅
Background:
I'm a 37F (5’4”, 120 lbs) factory worker from Vancouver, BC. I’ve been running off and on since 2019 after hating it my whole life. I’ve done four hm’s, six 10ks and a 5k, eight of those races were in the last year. This was my first marathon, marking my first whole year of training consistently since last year’s Sun Run (10k).
Training:
I have never really followed a plan and this marathon build was no different. I’ve looked at some plans and gotten a lot of great advice from podcasts like Rogue Running, Strength Running and books by Matt Fitzgeral. I planned my training in a spreadsheet and chose to schedule my weeks in a pretty simple, progressive way. Most weeks looked like this, unless I had a 10k race, where I would cut back on volume.
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Hill Tempo/Strength Training
Wednesday: Recovery Run
Thursday: Medium Long Run
Friday: Rest or Recovery Run
Saturday: Long Run
Sunday: Recovery Run/Strength Training
I used to do NRC Interval Workouts on Tuesdays when training for half marathons, but I swapped them for hill workouts about 9 weeks out. I found out if I ran home from work, it’s 9.5 km of rolling hills, one of them running parallel to the long hill at Camosun. I would do them as fast as I could, only stopping if I hit a red light. This worked extremely well and I felt quite comfortable with hills by the end of my block.
My mileage was 60 km/week on average for 18 weeks, with my peak being at 84 km. My longest long runs were 33, 35, 37 and 31 km. I didn’t do any marathon pace work in them until the final one where I did 10 x 1 km intervals at 5:20 min/km.
I ran four races during this block and PR’ed at almost all of them.
5K: 23:23 10K: 47:22 HM: 1:44:58
I got quite into race simulation and ran hilly sections of the course three times in my longest long runs. The only long run that was a challenge was the 37 km run, which I regretted. In hindsight, I wish I capped them at 32 km. I strained my soleus and that lead to overcompensating on my other leg later that week. I started getting pain in my right shin and thought I was getting shin splints, which is something I've never had. I managed to stave off injury by swapping a few runs with the elliptical and alternating my shoes often. Also, monthly massages have helped massively.
By the end of the taper, I felt rested and relaxed, with no niggles at all. I went to San Diego for 5 days the week of the marathon, for a wedding. I did a few easy runs by the beach, which was a nice way to end my training.
However, mini vacation really disrupted my nutrition, since I’m more of a social eatedrinker. I indulged more than I wanted to and while I never got drunk, or hungover, I felt bloated by the end of the week. Because of how I felt, I got nervous about overeating a couple days before the race. I still ate a couple bagels, cinnamon toast, a croissant and sushi on Saturday, after we flew back home.
The morning of the race, I had a demi baguette with butter and my usual green smoothie with coconut water. Everything was going according to plan until I got my period about two hours before the race. I wasn’t that concerned at the time, but in hindsight, i do wonder how that affected me.
I foam rolled at home and my husband dropped me off a few blocks away from the start, so walking was my warm up. I had just enough time to use the washroom at line up in my corral. I brought 6 gels, a hydration vest with water and liquid IV, which I trained with on every long run,
Although I kept saying that I wasn’t going to put pressure on myself, I started about 20 feet behind the 3:45 pacer and made it my goal to get closer and stick with him. I was a little concerned that my splits were fast, but I figured they would even out. I managed to stay with the group to the 10th km, after the long hill up Camosun.
But after that hill, I never fully recovered and the pace group started drifting further ahead. This is where my ego got the best of me and I was chasing them instead of running my own race. I went too fast on the downhills, determined to catch up. At the 14th km, I thought that I wanted it to be over and that I wasn’t having fun. I got a bit of a second wind as I caught up to them by the halfway point (1:51:xx). I did the math and thought I still had a chance to run 3:45.
That was short lived, as my pace slowed to my “easy” pace of 5:35 min/km. Time was going by slowly, I wasn’t smiling, the cheering crowds overwhelmed me and I wanted it to be over. My pace continued to slow to 5:45 as I reached the Seawall (the last 10k or so). My legs felt like lead and I wanted to cry. I managed to choke down my gels and started grabbing plain water from the aid stations, since my liquid IV was too sweet now. After my last gel, I stopped to dry heave, but nothing came up and I went back to running.
The only thing keeping me going was my pride, and the fact that I could still run without walking breaks. I’m not sure which would have been better, but I was worried if I started walking that I wouldn’t be able to run. I also felt grateful that I didn’t have cramps, as I saw multiple people clutching their calves. The only thing I felt was blisters on my toes from running downhill too fast. In the last couple kms, I could see blood through my white shoes.
By the end I was running close to 6:00 min/km and the finish line felt so far way. I managed to cross it at 3:53:34, which I am happy with. I limped out of the finish area and and all I took was a bottle of water and a bag of chips. Wanting to get to the sky train as fast as possible, I limped up Burrard Street and down the stairs, one step at a time, clutching the hand rail. I felt like people were looking at me in horror.
Right away, I can say that I started too fast, ran too fast down the hills and was too focused on my time goal. I love racing (my favourite race was the rainy First Half in February), so I really wish I had fun and paid attention to the course more. I do wonder if the numerous variables of that week/day played into my performance. It does bother me that I was running slower than my half marathon pace, yet I was fatigued by km 14.
Either way, I am signed up for RVM in October and I am determined to bring a different mindset into race day and have fun. I plan on being more consistent with my nutrition and calculating a proper carb load. As someone who has been meal prepping for years and practiced my nutrition so much during training, I’m disappointed that it fell apart in the final week. I also plan on practicing progressions more in my long runs and using that as a strategy for RVM.
If you got this far, thank you. I love reading race reports myself and I really appreciate the running community on Reddit. I have learned so much in the past year from Marathon_Training and AdvancedRunning too!

2024.05.17 04:29 Mystycul Heavy miniature agnostic rulesets?

I'm in the middle of a cost/effort calcualtion for going with a 3d printer or buying minis.
The challenge is that I really enjoy heavier games. I want lots of significantly unique individual models within a faction that itself is significantly different. Bookeeping, to a certain extent, is a positive. I want stuff like Malifaux or Bushido Risen Sun with lots of synergy or customization that amounts to more than just die modifiers.
And of course I could proxy my own 3d printed versions of a Bushido force, for example, and I wouldn't have a problem playing against something doing that but if I enjoy the game I'd want to be supporting it directly in the hopes of keeping it alive and growing.
However I haven't been able to find much in the way of agnostic rulesets that have that level of depth. Although it can be difficult to really figure that out because generally you've got to purchase a rulebook whereas most companies selling game-specific minis have free rulesets (or enough information in a quickstart) to get a good feel about the system, which is why I'm coming here to ask for recommendations.

2024.05.17 03:47 Boscomanhunter DJI Ban in US… Should I Buy?

Hey, so with all the recent news about bills going to ban DJI, obviously nothing is set in stone yet. I was looking to buy a DJI Mini 4 pro, but am hesitant due to this recent news. Sorry if this has been asked before, but if I get one would that affect me at all? Just trying to figure out if I should hold off for a bit or not.
Thanks in advance to all, and sorry again if this is a repost, I’ll take it down.

2024.05.17 02:56 thelonelymasochist First Build

Looking for guidance on my first PC build. Was considering this build guide from PC Part Picker:
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/mWMkZJ
Also played around with upgrading some parts and came up with this. Open to completely different builds, or suggestions for part swaps. I do really like the case but open to other similar options.
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/C6VxMV
**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

* Moderate gaming. Want to be able to run baulders gate 3 specifically. Will also be used for work where I do a ton of multitasking in citrix. Video calling, powerpoints, excel, email, etc...

**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**

* Approx. $1000 CAD. Can go a little above or below, but really looking to figure out what i need, without going over the top or running into performance issues and laggy-ness

**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

* As soon as possible. Start purchasing parts in the next week days or week.

**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**

* All components of the Tower. I will need OS and would like recommendations on Windows 10 vs 11. Also will be getting a second monitor and would like recommendations on a good monitor for gaming. Does need to be included in budget but can be.

**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**

* Toronto, Canada

**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

* Have a cheap wireless keyboard and mouse, a dock, webcam, etc... nothing im majorly concerned with compatibility wise.

**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**

* Not currently but maybe in the future.

**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

* would like a fair bit of storage but flexible on this.

**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

* Really like this case: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/qJrRsY/fractal-design-pop-mini-air-microatx-mid-tower-case-fd-c-por1m-01 Definitely want a white case, and primarily white parts where possible without breaking the budget. ARBG lights preferred

**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**

* Yes, please recommend version.

**Extra info or particulars:**

Finally found the perfect Mini keyboard for my OLED Steam Deck! (See Description)
I’ve seen plenty people give recommendations so I figured I’d give mine - this mini keyboard is by a company called Fosmon. Trackpad works pretty well on the Deck and is the same size as the ones on the SD (If not, it’s VERY close) has pretty much every button you would need to control stuff, even has volume and playback buttons along with a button to turn on/off the backlight on the keyboard itself!

2024.05.17 02:13 No_Train8612 3D printed minis for legion?

I’m new to legion, just recently started to learn the rules and organize a game. I bought the clone wars core set about a year ago mainly because it was a good deal to get all the miniatures. I’ve since bought a 3D printer and printed a bunch of legion minis purely for the fun of painting the models.
Recently I started taking actual interest in the game and I’m getting ready to play my first match. Assuming I like the game and wanted to build a larger army, what is everyone’s opinion on using 3D printed miniatures instead of official? If I’m able to print a squad of super battle droids for a couple bucks, why not do that instead of paying 40 bucks for the official figs?
I do know that that would depend on the opponent but as of now I’m mostly playing with friends or family so that’s not a huge concern.
TL;DR is there a reason I couldn’t just 3D an army instead of buying official legion figures?

In a unanimous vote, Zoey is eliminated, while Scott has gained immunity in a 5-3-3 vote.
Back on the plane. Sugar, Scott, and Topher are plotting. Scott states that as he’s currently safe, it’s Sugar & Topher who need to finish their plan with Zoey. Topher chimes in, saying that he’s got a plan that will definitely show off his natural charisma. He lays the details out, and Sugar tells him that this better work, before Scott tells them all to break.
Max & Staci are sitting in the economy class of the Jumbo Jet when Topher walks up, looking convincingly down. Max angrily asks what Topher wants, and Topher suggests voting out Zoey, as her temper could get really hairy, along with being a threat. Max spits at Topher, saying that Sugar covers all of those things as well, but is much nastier. Topher shuffles out, asking them to simply think about it.
Zoey has grabbed Dawn, Anne Maria, & Cameron, apologizing for what she did in the challenge. They all accept her apology, and just then, the P.A system pipes up, telling everyone to go vote. Topher goes up to Anne Maria as she’s walking out and says that she should vote Zoey for the same reasons in which he told Max & Staci to do so, along with the fact that she can get help with her anger issues outside of the game. Anne Maria asks what he means, but Topher has jetted off.
At the elimination ceremony, Chris quickly grants everyone besides Sugar & Zoey safe. Cameron asks what the holdup is with Sugar & Zoey, as Sugar was most definitely eliminated. Chris tells him that’s what Cameron simply thinks, before whistling, which brings out Will, who is moving around a mini-tv on a cart. He plugs it in, and Chris says that he believes that everyone should see the votes. In the confessional, Anne Maria utters “oh no”, and when Topher is in there, he’s squealing “Oh yeeesss!”, with popcorn in his hand.
Chris presses play, and we see the votes:
An angry Zoey mercilessly stamps Sugar’s face, saying “good riddance”.
Max also stamps Sugar’s passport, and huffs as he leaves the voting booth.
Scott stamps Zoey’s passport, stating that this plan of Topher’s better work, or they’re screwed.
Sugar votes for Zoey, stating that no one will get her out.
Dawn votes for Sugar, saying that one great injustice should be vanquished here.
A silent Staci is choosing between Sugar & Zoey and decides on Zoey.
Cameron puts in his vote for Sugar and says that he hopes Dawn is correct.
A smug Topher puts in his vote for Zoey, saying that the next vote may shock you.
Anne Maria is last, puts down her vote for Zoey while taking a deep breath, saying that she hopes that she doesn’t regret this.
Needless to say, Zoey, Dawn, Max, and Cameron are flabbergasted by these results. Zoey is nearly brought to tears again, simply apologizing for what she did today, before jumping off with a parachute. Dawn & Max are now staring at Scott, Sugar, & Topher with the power of a thousand suns, and Dawn is calling them “wretched souls” that would do anything for the smallest amount of money. Dawn & Max also look at Staci & Anne Maria, with the latter group having nothing to say. Dawn asks how they could do this, and Anne Maria said that she thought it may be best for Zoey to leave to get her issues in check, and that Topher made a decent point. With Max, he promptly kicks Topher in the balls, Scott in the shins, and slaps Sugar in the face. Max then goes up to Staci, saying that their alliance (and friendship) is over, before storming off. As Staci is sniffling about this, Chris barges in, signing off the show after asking some narrative questions.
Chinese Fake-Out
We start in first class, with Scott mocking Anne Maria. He tells her that she can’t possibly consider herself a hero anymore, and mockingly asks if Anne Maria is interested in joining his alliance. Due to this, Anne Maria shoves Scott face-first into the wedding cake right next to them, while walking away with a slice. In the confessional, a cake-covered Scott says that it feels good to be back on top, and that he should have a ticket to the finals if he plays his cards right. Anne Maria comes in next, saying that Scott, Topher, & Sugar are nothing more than a pack of filthy rats in an Atlantic City sewer system, and that she can’t believe that she fell for what Topher had said.
In economy class, Max is distraught, slightly more than Dawn. He laments about how Scott, Topher, and Sugar have the upper hand, and isn’t even sure if he can really trust Staci now, who is moping in a corner. Cameron then tells him that even if he’s upset at Staci & Anne Maria, he doubts that they maliciously voted off Zoey, and were truly worried about her. Staci confirms that’s what she thought, and Max starts to retort before putting his face in his hands, wondering what they’ll do. Topher & Sugar are watching this from afar, enjoying every second. Sugar starts to point & laugh at Max before falling over, as Chef has just roughly started to land the plane.
The contestants are lined up in front of the Great Wall of China. Before a cell phone call interrupts Chris's explanation of the competition, he gets as far as saying that the contestants must race along the wall The contestants start running after they misinterpret a signal, missing out on vital information about the challenge. Chris lets them go, figuring that this will just make things more interesting. As they’re running along the wall, Sugar tells Topher to get the rickshaw. Anne Maria says that the rickshaw isn’t hers yet, and Sugar tells her to get a real tan, which she gets slapped by Anne Maria for.
At the 2/5 mark of their journey, the contestants find many types of vehicles. Topher gets there first, with Sugar right by him. Topher suggests that Sugar carry him in the rickshaw, as she’d be good at that, which Sugar beams at. Topher whispers “Sucker!”, as Sugar gets ready to pull. Anne Maria gets there next and grabs the skateboard.
Dawn gets the bike, and Scott leaps over Cameron with his pogo stick, as Cameron mounts his trike. Max is having trouble mounting his donkey, and Staci comes up, offering to help him. Max says that he doesn’t need help, but after falling for the fourth time, he accepts her help. Staci then looks for her vehicle, which ends up being traditional Chinese Wooden Shoes.
Sugar, Topher, and Anne Maria are vigorously speeding down the Great Wall, until Sugar hits a land mine sending her & Topher into the air. Max’s donkey has stubbornly stopped, and Scott is laughing at him as he bounces past. Max then hatches an idea, which is to kick the donkey in the butt, which nearly sends him flying off the wall. With Dawn & Cameron, Cameron’s tricycle is stuck in a crack. Dawn tries to help him out but can’t get it unstuck, so she offers him a ride on her bike. Dawn & Cameron race for the finish line, but they hit another land mine, sending them both backwards past Chris’s helicopter.
Anne Maria, Topher, & Sugar reach the finish line almost simultaneously, only to discover that there is no prize for first place; instead, whoever crossed the finish line first gets to join Chris for a "special" lunch, which is the next part of the competition. Scott reaches the finish via pogo stick and tells Chris to end the challenge when he sees Max & Staci rapidly advancing. However, Max & Staci make it over the line barely soon enough, making Cameron & Dawn the only ones ineligible to compete in the next part of the challenge.
In the Chinese restaurant, Chris tells the contestants that they will partake in authentic Chinese cuisine. Anne Maria says that she can’t wait to eat some wontons, until Chris describes the food they’ll be eating, such as deep-fried grasshoppers, Kung Pao larvae — the grossest Chris can find, which makes Topher gag. Sugar then says that none of that sounds tough at all, so Topher turns to Sugar to help him eat these dishes, which Sugar happily accepts.
Along with the food being very gross, the contestants must sing a song during the challenge, “A Chinese Lesson”. Max is eliminated first when he believes that the donkey meat served was his friend Ace, Anne Mariais eliminated when she finishes her food last, and Staci is eliminated when she can’t finish a starfish before Scott.
To everyone’s dismay, one of Sugar, Scott, or Topher is guaranteed to win invincibility now. At this point, Anne Maria notices that Topher keeps ducking down under the table, and that Sugar always seems to have a never-ending plate, which means that Topher is giving his food to Sugar. To fix this, Chris puts mousetraps under the table to discourage moving under there. Topher says that this is ridiculous, and when he takes a mere whiff of the century egg on his plate, he pukes directly onto Sugar. Due to this, Sugar can’t handle the food anymore, puking as well. This once again grants Scott immunity, eliciting a chorus of groans.
Vote for two people besides Scott, vote for someone to be immune, and feel free to come up with any plot points!

2024.05.17 01:32 novelpuckhead AITA for holding a grudge against my ex-bestie for longer than our friendship was?

This is probably a longer story than it really is, but I am just trying to give as much context as I can.
In grade 11, me (F16-17) and my ex-friend (F16-17) were best friends. For some context, we both became friends fairly early in high school. In my country high school is from grade 8-grade 12. I joined the high school in grade 8 from out of city, the high school is just closer to me than the one in my city, so I was a new kid. I made some friends in grade 8 as a new kid but those friendships did end in grade 9. Grade 9 is when my best friend, we'll call her Emily, transferred to the school. And we formed a friendship. Through grade 9 we had formed our own little friend group with 2 other girls, we'll name them Clara and Sabrina. It was the 4 of us through majority of high school. We would always text each other, always hang out after school, spend any break we had at school together and had as much fun as any girls in high school could have (minus the partying because my school is not a partying school).
Emily and I were the closet in the friend group, afterall we were pretty similar and come from similar backgrounds (We're both a type of asian). We both would be described as the smart kids. We both would end up getting high grades in all of our classes. In grade 9, when we met, she told the friend group her dream was to become a doctor like her parents were, so she studied extra hard in high school to keep her grades high. I, on the other hand, did not really have any specific dreams. I wanted to become a writer or even a lawyer (but was worried because I'm not the best speaker). Due to that, I never tried that hard at school. Like i care about grades, my parents cared a lot about me getting high grades, but I wasn't studying for anything. And with that I never really studied either, I would do my homework and pay attention in class and take pretty notes but I was not spending any real time after class to do work Which is something that Emily would do. She would spend hours and hours a day just studying. If she wasn't studying she would be doing some volunterring or some club stuff.
Fast forward to grade 11. Right from the beginning of the year something just felt odd about our relationship. She seemed distant. Which I chalked up to it being we were now considered seniors at our high school so she was starting to stress about universities already, but it was still whatever. My school worked in semesters, so for half of the year we would have 4 specific classes which would then switch to different classes in second semester. During first semester I didn't have any classes with any of my friends. I was just chilling in all of my classess and getting adopted into different group friends in those classes. I was always well-liked in high school, I was not a popular kid. But compared to all the smart kids in the school, I was deemed the nicest so because of that everyone would be nice to me and friendly (even though I know for some of them it was so they could get hw answers out of me, but they were still very nice to me).
During this time, my friends and I would make up plans to hang out. We always made it a point to hang out at least once a week outside of school. It was always after school, we would usually study, walk around or go to the mall. In our gc on insta we would always double check with one another on which days to do it. Clara, Sabrina and I would always talk in the gc and were always the ones initiating the plans. Emily was also in the gc but would rarely reply to anything. Any times we would make plans to hang out, Emily would either not reply (which would then lead us to asking her during lunch the next day if she was free, where she would barely talk) or she would just say no to all plans. The few times she would say yes, she would always cancel the day of. Which would be annoying, and Clara, Sabrina and I would talk amongst ourselves that we found it odd she would always cancel and never want to hang out outside of school, but we were like it's not that big of a deal. She could just be busy.
We then just ahead to my birthday. Now i have an early birthday and it falls around the time that we come back to school after the winter break. Now during the winter break, Clara, Sabrina and I formed a seperate gc as it would just be the three of us talking and making plans. We also always took so many pictures and felt bad about sending it into the gc with the four of us in it as we didnt want Emily to feel bad about not coming. So we figured it was better if we kept it seperate. But in the main gc, I just ask when is everyone free to do something small. I'm not really a birthday person. Since high school, all my birthdays include going to some cozy restauraunt with my 4 closest friends and just having a casual dinner. So I ask and everyone leaves their responses, including Emily. We decide on a day, it would be after school just a day or two after my actual birthday and we would be going to a restuarunt and an arcade nearby (I have strict parents so I really wasn't allowed to go out late or really go out anywhere far). The plan is made and everything is set. When the day comes for the dinnearcade, we all meet up by our lockers to go take the bus together.
The 3 of us are there waiting for Emily to come and she does just a few minutes late. That is when she tells us she can't come because she has a club meeting today, and she told us it was mandatory for us to attend. Now of course my friends and I tried to convince her to blow it off just this one time, but she was adamant about going. So, whatever. We say bye to her and start walking to the bus. While walking there we bump into a mutual friend, also waiting for the bus. She is also in the same club, so we confused why she was here. We do ask her, saying "hey isn't there something happening with the club today?" That is when she tells us there was just this small meeting recapping what had happened in last weeks meeting for the people who missed it. Meaning the meeting was not madatory at all, especially when Emily had cancelled our plans last week to go to this said meeting. Meaning she did sort of lie to get out of going to my birthday party. I of course was hurt by this. When she told us she had to go to the meeting, I didn't think much of it as I knew how much school mattered to her and how much doing this club stuff mattered. But she had the choice to come, and she decided to just blow me off. We went out and had fun and didn't bring the matter up with her. We figured it was just her caring a bit too much about school.
Anyways this whole cancelling plans last minute, ghosting the main gc thing happened more and more. It also got to the point where if I wanted to talk to her, whether that was through text or in real life I would always have to approach her first. As this carried on for a while, i of course was getting a bit annoyed about where this friendship was going.
We now get to Emily's birthday a month later. Now Emily decided to plan her birthday, very last minute. I am just pointing this out as i am not a person who can do spontaneous plans, one because i have this need to plan properly and two because I do have strict parents. So i can't just spring a plan on them the day of and expect to go. Which is something Emily knows. Anyways she makes the plan and i tell my mom about it to ask if i can go and she says yes. The day before, Emily then decides to change the plan entirely. We were going to go into downtown city (for context, it's roughly 2 hours transit from our neighborhood). I obviously had to ask permission as she wanted to stay out late which is not something my parents would like, so when Emily told us at lunch the change in plans, Clara, Sabrina I told her we had to double check if we can still go as we all have strict parents, but our extended friend group were all down to go.
After school, the four of us head into the bathroom, which is a toally normal thing for high school girls to do before we headed out. While there Emily then decides to start a fight with me about not going to her birthday, which hasn't happened yet. She starts yelling at me about how Im mad that she didn't go to my birthday and am not going to hers as revenge (I'll be honest, I kinda forgot she didn't go). And starts yelling at me about how I'm being a bad friend and frankly a b*tch. And when I say she is screaming at me, I mean there is the largest echo circling our bathroom as she yells at me. Now I'm just standing there, trying to reason with her. I'm just trying to explain to her that i didn't say i wasn't coming, i just needed to get permission to go, which is something that Clara and Sarbina said as well but Emily wasn't saying anything about them. She proceeded to just yell at me for a solid 5 minutes. Another girl did walk into the bathroom, saw Emily yelling and just left, which I feel bad about. I do not do well with someone yelling at me, so I just tell her that I'm leaving now and we can talk later. I practically run out of the bathroom and out of school. Clara runs up to me and says i can't go home feeling like this. I felt horrible, i felt like throwing up. So Clara makes it her job to cheer me up as Sabrina is trying to calm Emily down. Clara takes me to Mcdonalds, where we split a meal as that became a tradition of ours and she bought me ice-cream to make me feel better. We end up spending roughly and hour and half there before starting to walk back to our houses. I did feel a lot better and I was smiling. Clara didn't really say much about what happened as she knew it would upset me. She just said that Emily was being mean and left it at that. At some point during our walk, Emily calls Clara and starts screaming at Clara over the phone about choosing "my side". I only know it was Emily because I can hear her screaming through the phone and Clara is trying to be nice to her and say she was comforting her friend like a good one would do. Emily continues screaming and Clara just hangs up on her.
We don't talk about it. Now the next day, at school, is Emily's birthday. I feel so awkward. Because i'm still upset about what happened. When I see her, I'm not sure if I should wish her a happy birthday. I feel like I am owed an apology first. so i don't really say anything to her. and we don't really talk. Now we are in the same Chemistry honours class together and are lab partners. So we have to talk. I ask her, if we're going to talk about what happened. And she just says, no, it's my birthday. I just say really but she doesn't say anything after. So Im just like, fine, whatever. We spend the entire class in awkward silence, and I do not see her again the entire day. Even at lunch because she has a club meeting or something. Clara, Sabrina and I all agree that we don't want to talk about it. Clara got an apology text last night but she was still mad about being yelled at over the phone. Sabrina asked us if we wanted to know what her and Emily talked about yesterday but i said no. I was frankly too mad and knew if anything was said, I would be upset. Emily did not end up having a birthday party. and there is now an awkward silence between the 4 of us. it's like a horror movie, where the music is playing and you just know something bad is coming and you have to wait for it.
A few days later, I know i have to say something. I can feel that our friendship is hanging by a thread and I want my best friend back. So at lunch, while we're all sitting by our lockers I bring up the topic. I do not remember the conversation that took place. All I know was that Emily was practically screaming in my face, in front of all our friends (Clara, Sabrina and 5 of our other friends). Everyone is trying to get her to stop, but she keeps yelling at me. At some point I just start crying. Now this is the first time, that someone outside of my family, has ever made me cry. Its the first time I have ever cried at school too. The tears are flowing down my face as I just say "i'm sorry i cant do this" to the rest of our friends as i had off to the bathroom to calm down. Clara and one of our other friends rush off with me to try to calm me down and stop the tears. But they keep coming. I can't stop them and am now in the bathroom splashing my face with water and doing my best to wipe them all away. Clara, this other friend and i all have the same class next. So they have to literally drag me to class as I'm sort of paralyzed about whats happening. When we get to the classroom, everyone there, which was half of the class is looking at me and seeing my red, teared-up face. Our seats are at the very back corner of the classroom, on the very opposite side from the door. So i have to walk past the entire face as they all stare at me and wonder whats happening. the entire time im not really paying any attention. during little work periods in the class, my fellow classmates would walk up to me and ask if im okay. which i would say yes, i was even though i wasnt because what else could i say. I ended up powering through the rest of the day before going home and wonderign what to do.
In the secret gc, I text with Clara and Sabrina about what my next steps should be. They suggest we have an actual therapy session as a friend group to discuss if we even want to be friends at this point. I agree to this. I even start writing up my own speech I am going to tell Emily when i see her.
So I'm just going to jump ahead to whenever this happens. It's during lunch, outside on the grass field. I am calm, I know what to say and everything. I'm sitting there with Clara and Sabrina has to literally drag Emily out of school to come and talk. I kid you not. We have like an hour for lunch. It takes 20 minutes for Emily to finally show up. And she shows up like, "ugh what are we even doing here? im kinda busy" and just acts like there is nothing at all wrong. I start to calmly explain to her how ive been feeling the entire year. I do not remmeber the conversation. But what I remember talking about is how i feel like she's distant, she's always cancelling plans, im always the one texting her first, about how she gets mad at me for small little things, how she yells at me, etc. My whole speech was about how "i don't want to feel like sh*t for trying to continue this friendship". Because even after the first time she yelled at me, I just wanted an apology and we could move on and that didn't happen. And now Im just like I don't want to cry again and don't want my tears to come from someone who's supposed to be my best friend. She does argue her case in this. Her whole thing is how "i'm being clingy and annoying and controlling".
Now for her arguement, I think it should be known more about my persoanlity type. I am not the best people person. I have social anxiety and how that manifests in me is that i can't really talk to people that well. I don't know how to converse and get incredibly nervous to talk to anyone new. So when I do become friends with someone, I do latch on to them. I talk to them all the time, when i can, and they become my person. I think that is where the clingy party comes from. For the controlling/annoying thing, I can only chalk it up to me always texting her. Like i said, i would always have to be the one initating our conversations and plans. So our chats always look like 5 bubbles of text from me (because i am the person that types in multiple bubbles rather than one large text bubble) and her short responses. When it comes to plans, as I said i do not do spontaenous plans. I need to have them properly organized for both my parents sakes and my sake. I'm not someone who plans everything out minute by minute, I just need to know times and places. And if you are actually free.
Thankfully this time, Emily isn't yelling at me however she is talkimg a bit loudly. Now at this point we have spent 25ish minutes talking about this when she suddently gets up and says "i have to go otherwise i'll be late for my class and get in trouble". Which there is still 15 minutes before lunch ends. And her classroom is across the hallway from my next class with Clara. The walk from the grass field was literally 2 minutes. Our coversation wasn;t done. There was no convlusion and no real understanding on either part. So all of us get up as Emily starts speed walking and we all chase her. We're all telling her there is still so much time left, but she doesn't listen and still carries on. So then I say, "i don't want to be friends anymore if this is what it's going to be like". and she says "fine." and walks away. and that was the end of our friendship.
It was almost spring break and our friends were doing their best to navigate the situation. I think they believed we both needed time to cool down and we can all be friends again. However that didn;t happen. Emily and i agreed to be civil as we still had the same friend group but she never really hung out with us in the next couple days, or talked during lunch and that was it.
The two of us did not talk at all. The only times we did was in our Chemistry class, where she did the most un-civil thing ever. As I said we were lab partners. Anytime we had any lab, involing the microscope, I would always be the person doing the microscope work as Emily writes down the results of what I found. I would then get the numbers or obersations from her and add them to my worksheet as our teacher wanted us to work in partners but submit our own work. This one lab went off for too long and the bell rung. So as we are packing up quickly, I ask Emily for the numbers she wrote down. She said she's late for something and will send me the numbers later today. And I'm like fine. She never did. It was also a Friday so we went into the weekend and she never sent me anything. I did text her once on Saturday and another time on Sunday if she could send it. but she never replied and i just asked another classmate if they could send me their answers. If our teacher asked why did we as partners have different answers, I was going to tell him Emily wouldn't give them to me. He never did ask and that was the last time we really talked.
We then headed into spring break which ended up turning into the pandemic lockdown. Now I feel so bad when saying this, as i know this was a difficult time for so many people. But me as a 17-year-old high school studnet, loved the first few weeks of lockdown. I saw it as a mental health break as all the stuff that went down with Emily did in fact put me into a depression phase (I actually do have depression and i do end up in mini-phases where its really bad). The lockdown gave me time to breathe as it felt like i was holding my breath for so long and i could relax. Now in the fall, our school did a hybrid for our last year. Which was fine, it was weird but managable. Emily did not talk to me, Clara or Sabrina at all during our seniour year. We graduated and my friends and I had the best time we could under pandemic restrictions.
Current day, I (21) am now in university. Clara and Sabrina and I are as close as ever and have managed to keep our friendship alive and strong even 3-4 years outside of high school and while all attending different universities. We still hang out regularly (once every week or so) and text all the time. And would you believe it, Emily goes to my university. Remember, how I said she wanted to become a doctor. Yeah so her plan was to go to university in Toronto for some medicine thing. I don't really know. She didn't do that. Instead she stayed in our city and decided to do business instead. What am I doing, you ask? Also business. Now I know I can't claim a school, or a major or anything like that. But i can't lie, im a little annoyed that she decided to swtich her career path to the same as mine. Thankfully Ive only had one class with her and it was one of those big lecture halls so i didn't have to talk with her. Just seeing her tho reminds me of high school and i can feel my blood pressure rising and me sweating as all the nerves and stress come back.
Anyways Clara and Sabrina's birthdays are coming up. Their birthdays are within the same week so since high school, they've always just done one big combined party. The two of them are both really chill people, they are friends with everyone and anyone. So as their coming up with their birthday plans, they are thinking of their guest list and Emily is on it. Now, Clara and Sabrina did ask me beforehand if they could invite her. They do want to make sure I am comfortable. They both tell me that they don't really talk to her anymore, maybe once every 3 months or something. They also haven't hung out since high school. But for their 21st birthday they are thinking of inviting everyone from our high school friend group to have sort of a mini-reuinion. I am down for it, I do think i have moved on, in the sense that I know I do not want Emily in my life. I do tell them I will probably feel awkwad but I can manage for one night for their birthday.
As I'm telling my sister (F16) about Clara and Sabrina's party and who's coming, she asks me about Emily. She basically says if Clara and Sabrina are fine with inviting her, that means they have forgiven her for high school stuff, so am I not being a bit mean for holding on to my feelings? I am a person who believes there is no expirational date on any pain caused by a person. I should not have to "forgive and forget" a person, who has not asked for it and who caused me so much pain just because that is how the world has worked. But it go me thinking, am i being a bit rude?
So, two questions: AITA for what happened in high-school? (am i in the wrong for the friendship breakup) and AITA for not wanting to forgive her?
A FEW NOTES: (i'll add more when i think of it)
I have not spoken to Emily since grade 12. Not in person, not through people, not through text. We have had no contact with one another and i am fine with that. I do not want any relationship with her.
Clara and Sabrina are two of the sweetest people in my life. It does not hurt me at all they have the odd interaction with Emily at all. Afterall they do say its very minimal contact and the few times they have made plans with Emily included, they let me know well in advance, ask if its okay to invite her and all that. Each time I say its fine because I know Im in a good place to not feel bad.
I have never yelled at Emily. Nor have I ever spoken badly about her. With our mutual friends I might complain about the situation, but I never say anything bad about her. I should also say, Emily i don't think was well-liked. As I said the two of are good students, the smart kids, whatever else you want to say. However Emily is what would be described as a "teacher's pet" and does give off an arrogant vibe at times towards others. Some of my other friends/classmates would sometimes make comments about this to me, but i would always sort of downplay it. Like, oh that's not how she really is, she just cares a lot about school. A few times I would say the comments are harsh to some of the classmates. Her, on the other hand, has called me a controlling b*tch to several people. who have all told me about it. She did bad-mouth to quite a few people.
At some point in grade 11 (not really relevant to the main story, but might be part of the reason Emily's always made at me), but I was blamed for a rumour going around that Emily had a crush on this guy in our grade. Emily and I had to go to this one teacher's class for some notes or something. And in the class was this girl who I didn;t really like. So before we walk in I whisper to her, no one can hear, that "hey there's that girl i don't like". Emily then makes it so obvious that she is looking at this girl. And next to her is one of the popular boys in our class. Emily makes it so obvious that shes looking in his direction and does it a few times, that the rumour she likes this guy becomes a huge joke in our grade. She does not like this guy, never has liked this guy, but it is a joke that him and his friends carry on. This continues for the entire year, and Emily in our therapy session does mention this fact. She says its my fault that this joke has gone around. I don't see how.

2024.05.17 01:26 cocogate To install ones own motorcycle tires, from suffering to agony to... being cheap enough to consider doing it again.

Just to make it clear, i am cheap and i wanted to profit off of doing my own tires on my project bike. Its a teeny 125cc honda CBR 125R that i fixed up. Learnt the whole maintenance thing on it before i did the tasks on my big bike. Oil, air filter, brake lights, brakes, valves, ... and now tires.
Bought tire spoons for 18€ and putting on the tires would take 20€ each. Doing one set and suffering would yield unlimited returns forever!
Cue removing the front tire and suffering the consequences of not thinking ahead leading to me waggling the cbr to its storage space on its rear wheel almost pulling something in my back trying to keep it upright. Did not buy a front paddock so its resting on its forks on some boxes like the ratty project it is.
Got the tire off easily enough, in about half an hour with 3 tire spoons and some good force i managed to get the tire on BUT I WARPED THE DAMN THREAD TO THE FOURTH DIMENSION. I'm not the strongest but i got some muscle and boy did i use it. Must've messed up the 'put your knees down on the other side' cause i muscled that spoon over the rim with the intensity of an action movie shot just before the problem gets solved. Tire obviously wouldn't hold air.
Contemplated life for a while, ordered a new one and figured id put on the old tire (15yo) as a form of practice. If that went well id give the rear tire a shot, if not ill eat the costs and lament. Got me a bucket of soapy water and focused on putting my weight on one side while spooning the other side AND THE THING NEAR FLEW ONTO THAT RIM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did not have to apply all that much power, just some leverages, steadily bit by bit and making sure i sat my stupid ass on the other side of the damn rubber.
Had some issues getting it to inflate, got a tip from the local subreddit discord to bounce the tire and lo and behold after my 20yo compressor got up to pressure for the third time i got a pop and a second or 3 later a second pop. Tire beaded and inflated. As it laid on the 60€ tire that i destroyed literally within half the hour of being delivered i couldnt even be happy. Spending 60€ to put on a tire almost old enough to ride the bike its put on.
Mind you i was doing the whole process in my bathroom due to the soapy water and at this point it was a mess.
As that one went well i went ahead and took the rear off the bike in the garage downstairs. Somehow i put the stand that held up the bike by its axle nuts far enough away that by the time i got the rear wheel loose i stood there, supporting the bike's tail on my shoulder, hunched over without anything to put under the bike. Managed to get it leaning against the wall for long enough to put the stand under and up i went, back to my bathroom.
Suffered a good while to get the bead to break as the bead breaking machine i'd borrowed and wanted to use for the tougher rear tire HAD A SUPPORTING ROD TOO THICK FOR THE DAMN WHEEL. So back to using spoons to pop that bead and getting off the tire and putting it back on. Double and triple checked whether i put it on right, spent 15 soapy minutes to get the rear on TO FIND OUT ID STILL PUT IT ON BACKWARDS. Getting the beads to pop went well though before i noticed. Improvement!
At this point id spent a good 4 hours struggling with these tires, the mental meltdown of breaking a tire and the struggle of breaking the bead and i took a breather. Figured id take this as a lesson learnt and just pay for the damn tire installation + balancing.
Having regained my calm i took off the tire, being mindful to not tear it off the rim like the frustrated mini-hulk i felt i was ONLY TO PUT ON THE DAMN REAR tire in 5 MAGNIFICENTLY SWIFT MINUTES and figuring out how to bounce the tire well enough that the double pop came near the same instant i put the pressured air compressor to the valve. What a beautiful sound.
Now i have 3-5 days to clean up the bike and wait for the front wheel and probably forget the tricks of how to put the damn rubber on and i'm oddly enthusiastic about putting it on so swiftly making my brain think we're still saving money in the future. Not sure whether i want to put on the tires on my big bike but we'll see...
And here i am, typing it as a form of free therapy, hope someone enjoyed the read.
TLDR: stupid monkey puts on motorcycle tires only to spend 4h+ on getting it 'right' and breaking one of them. Soapy water is magic and putting the tire to warm on a radiator makes the thing malleable like clay almost. Combine that with correctly utilizing the technique of pressing down the other side of the tire with your bodyweight or something else and the whole process went smoother than my brains are.

2024.05.17 01:07 makman44 How do NDS games run these days?

I just a Mini + the other day and have been loading up everything from NES to PSX games.
I was going through older posts for game recommendations when I saw that this little thing can run DS games!
I tried find recent posts to see how Drastic is running these days but didn't find too much.
I'm mostly interested in the Castlevania, DQ and Pokemon games so I figured I'd pop in and ask the community if they run well.

2024.05.17 01:03 Holdshort7 I'm confused about DDR5 RAM

I'm your average PC enjoyer.
I've built three machines in the last 10 years, and RAM has always been a fairly easy selection, as prioritizing latency seemed to be the right way to optimize that part of the build, particularly since RAM speeds didn't vary much.
DDR5 confounds me a bit. Could be I'm an old now and technology moves too fast for my arthritic brain, but I'm trying to figure out if I ought to prioritize speed or latency.
For example: I know the DDR5 spec is between 4000 to 6400Mhz, but I've heard that you will get better performance out of an 8200Mhz kit with a high latency (38) than a 5600Mhz kit with a lower latency (28) (all other things being equal, such as memory channels, capacity, etc).
Can you all help me get my head on straight, because I'd like to order this kit ASAP and get this f*cker built before the man makes me go back to work next week!
The other compenents are: Ryzen 7900 (this was chosen due to my cooler limitations, which itself is limited by case dimensions)
Asus X670-I Mini ITX
Sabrent Rocket 4.0
Radeon 6900XT
Thanks crew.
