2024.05.17 01:42 Anotherguitarmanguy Is it worth a shot to reach out to her?

Hey internet. Question…
TLDR…
I have a gig tomorrow night and I’m wondering if I should reach out to a girl (F28/9?) I (M29) met in December in the weeks before Christmas that I fumbled a casual fling with because I’m a clueless bumbling idiot lol… I’m going to provide the backstory followed by the working text below.
I met this girl after a holiday concert at a bar nearby. It was her birthday And she straight up hit on me at the bar which I’m not used to. Long story short I ended up going home with her and hooked up. I guess she was kinda hammered but I didn’t think she was super drunk at the time. Regardless, she kept saying how sweet and attentive I was, and the next morning we said we both enjoyed the night. It was a little awkward but not too bad. I’ve had ONS before so I get it, but I’m not the type to just hit and quit right away as I don’t date often and I’ll take what I can get lol. She told me she wasn’t really looking to date which I was and am fine with, I just enjoy connecting with women. I didn’t really have a goal in mind but was happy to ride the wave.
I left, we made plans to see eachother again. Was going to meet at a bar but she said I could come to her place since it was more cozy so i suggested a gingerbread house and drinks. She said sure, and since I haven’t dated in a long time due to a past long lingering heartbreak that I’m finally over, I went shopping for homemade margs and gingerbread house stuff before I went to see her again.
Admittedly, I went way overboard with the materials but figured whatever we didn’t use I’d just bring to my family party and we could build gingerbread houses there. I didn’t honestly expect to get very I nvested into the gingerbread house thing, I was pretty indifferent about it, but I come prepared and figured we’d end up sleeping together so it’s be a segue towards that again. Also, since it was Christmas time and her birthday the week prior, at the store I was debating whether or not to get her a $10 poinsettia. Why not. Would it be too much? Idk maybe? I let it be a game time decision and if I decided not I’d have one for my place. Time comes, I think “fuck it” and grab that with all the other completely unnecessary stuff.
I show up to her place with a duffel bag full of gb house materials and mixology stuff to craft good casamigos margs, and this poinsettia. She buzzes me in and on the way up to the TOP FLOOR I drop the plant on her stairs so now there’s dirt everywhere 🤦‍♂️
She sees the ridiculous sight of me and this scene and tells me I didn’t have to do any of that. I guess I just wanted to be nice but I know it was too much in retrospect and kinda going into it? It’s been a while so I didn’t know what to do, alright!
Anyways, I unpack the stuff, make drinks, we talk and kinda get going on the house but quit on it pretty quick lol. We go to the living room, talk a bit, then I realize she had more of a Booty call sitch in her head so we hook up again. Next morning was fine, we had a good time, I said I’d just use all that stuff for a family party which was 💯 true and we go about our days.
We text a while the next week talking music and it was fine, maybe coming on too hard and I ask if she wants to meet up again soon. She says she’s feeling sick and is staying in.
Literally an hour earlier I was talking to my cousin who told me she was sick. I decided to get my cousin a little care package after work. As I’m shopping, I find out this girl is sick too. They’re in nearby neighborhoods in the city.
I told her I was already on a mission and she said not to get her anything or worry about it. I really insisted On it since it honestly wasn’t a big deal to me at all and felt I could get her something to help the pain or whatever. She said she wasn’t being modest and that she had meds there and not to bring anything as it was too much. I backed off and realized I shouldn’t have done that either.
I wait a couple days to give space, text her again, and she sends this
“Hey! All better now thanks.
It’s been fun getting to know you and hanging out but I’m not interested in continuing anything from here. It’s all been a little too much for me so just wanted to be straightforward and let you know. Wishing you the best and a happy holiday!”
I replied with…
“Glad to hear you’re feeling healthy going into the holidays.
Yea, I understand how I could’ve been perceived by you as overzealous.
No worries, thanks for being honest! Same to you, Enjoy the holidays”
I understand that from her perspective it would be weird if a guy was insisting on coming to her place when she said not to. I just figured it ain’t no thang and didn’t think about it at the time. In hindsight, I was treating her like I would’ve treated my ex which is how I ultimately screwed that sitch up. I was ok with a casual thing but didn’t know how to navigate it.
That was in December, where she proceeded to block me on instagram. Whoops. Not how I hoped that’d play out lol I wanted to explain that I know it was too much and I won’t act like that again as we both want something casual. I know it sounds like I didn’t, but I did and do now as well. 8 left it at that and put it behind me.
Well, now it’s May and I’m playing music at the bar we met at which reminded me of that huge fumble. I was curious if I should reach out as I’m wanting to start being a bit proactive again in meeting women. Here’s what I have now below 👇 idk if I should try to communicate that I wouldn’t act like (an idiot) that again or leave the text as is. Or if I should message her on fb (never friends so I wasn’t blocked) or even bother reaching out at all. Doesn’t matter ultimately either way, I’m busy and have a lot I do in life.I did enjoy our brief time together tho and the sex was decent. I guess I’m wondering if a fwb situation is possible anymore if she’s still single.
Unsent text:
“Hey( Woman)! I’m going to have a gig at (the bar we met at) tomorrow night. I haven’t been there since we met so it reminded me of you. I’m sure you’re busy but I just thought I’d reach out and let you know 🤠
If you’re still disinterested in seeing me at all, disregard and I won’t hit you up, no hard feelings”
SO thoughts? I’m talking to a couple people now but haven’t been seeing or hooking up with anyone. Nobody else could come so thought I’d extend an invite

2024.05.16 09:15 Disastrous_Pattern_3 Don't go backpacking in Tahoe National Forest

Warning: Mentions of violence, blood, and some self harm near the end.
While browsing some random conspiracy site, I found what is a supposedly leaked file from the Nevada County Sheriff's Department; however, nothing has been confirmed. According to the OP, it is believed the following is the personal account of a 21 year old Jonathan Ashford of Grass Valley, California. Normally I would write stuff like this off but this one is...different. I’ve done my best to correct most of the grammar and misspelling while at the same time trying to avoid skewing the original account.
-September 15, 2022
I’ve never really been an outdoor person. Well, I guess that’s because I’ve never really been outdoors much in the first place. And that’s because I guess…I've never been invited? I don’t really have any friends. So, needless to say, I was surprised to find myself on a backpacking trip with a group of 5 other students from my university. The plan was five days in Tahoe National Forest some place called Mystery Lake. Monday-Friday. I don’t know why they decided to do it during the week. Most of us had okay grades at best and part time jobs on the side so taking a week off of it all seemed at the very least a bit irresponsible; and yet, I went anyway. Listen, I didn’t plan it, okay? This was one of my only chances to get to know people. The hike wasn’t too long but my genius self who had only been backpacking once when I was around 9 years old or so decided to carry 60 pounds of bullshit up the mountain resulting in my shoulders being sore and raw for the foreseeable future.
-10:11 PM
To be honest, I don’t really know why they let me come with them. I only know one of them and the group has been ignoring me for pretty much the entire trip. I was always bringing up the back on the hike in and I set up my tent outside of the main camp behind some trees. I haven’t eaten any meals with them or talked to them or, now that I think about it, anything really. Regardless. The trip has been an experience. Hopefully things get more exciting tomorrow.
-September 16
I’ve only ever slept in a tent a couple times so the new environment and lack of sleeping pills resulted in quite a restless night. I woke up at about eleven; everyone else was gone. I remembered they were talking about a day hike on a trail headed north so assuming that’s where they went, I hurried to get dressed and grabbed some granola bars. I’m about to head out. I hope I find them.
-12:21 PM
I’d been briskly walking for around an hour and was feeling quite exhausted so when I heard the group’s voices off in the distance I was very relieved. I started to jog in their direction when–when this jolt or–wave of energy flooded my mind. My head instantly started throbbing and my vision went blurry. The best way I could describe it is–TV static? Like the old TVs that would go all staticky when the signal got bad. I could barely make out shapes and a space in the middle of my vision was especially dark to the point where I couldn’t see past it. That wasn’t the worst of it, though. God no, if only I was that lucky. I can still hear the shrieking. That goddamn shrieking. In an instant all I could hear was this sharp, scratchy shrieking. It pierced through my ears and rooted itself in my head. I think I cried out in pain but even if I did I couldn’t have heard it. It was as if the damned souls of hell all cried out in eternal pain all at once and begged for death. I gripped and pulled at my hair, hardly noticing the pain that resulted from it as I fell to my knees in agony before…
I slowly opened my eyes. My head hurt and there was a slight buzzing in my ears. I lay in a pile of ivy next to a fallen log, my back dampened from the cool soil beneath me. I stood up, the hill on which I previously stood was nowhere in sight. As I leaned my shoulder against a tree to steady myself I heard voices. Cautiously, I walked through the foliage as the low vines dragged along my ankles. As I walked, I looked up. The falling sun cast a soft orange glow across the sky. It was probably around five O’clock or so. I climbed up on a large rock only to realize I was near the main camp. I pin-pointed the voices of my fellow campers as they huddled around a low-burning campfire. As I sat down to listen to them speak I could sense a strong feeling of uneasiness resonating from the group. Then it hit me.
“Are you sure you haven’t seen her since earlier this afternoon?” One of them said, I think his name was Matthew? He was tall and lean, by far the tallest in the group.
“I’m sure! It just doesn’t make sense. One minute she was behind me going on about who knows what and then the next when I turn around she’s gone!” A girl with light brown hair said. I didn’t know her name. I could see tears forming at the corner of her eyes as the wind blew her hair into her face.
“We need to find her before it gets dark. Groups of two; stick together!” A shorter man with brown hair said. Ryan. He was the only one I knew. We weren’t friends. Definitely not. But he was nice enough to me in the classes we had together and I was grateful that I was able to go on the trip with him. As he walked past the boulder I sat beside, paying me no mind, I saw his lower lip quiver as his wide eyes looked straight ahead. He was more nervous than he led on. I zoned out for a few seconds, the static from earlier crawling its way into the corners of my vision when a chipmunk climbing a tree snapped me back to reality and I realized I had been left at camp. I looked around at the tall forest but the group was nowhere in sight. I assumed they wanted me to wait at camp in case the missing girl, Alice, came back, but as I moved toward the dying campfire the call of nature occupied my thoughts. I found a spade and a roll of toilet paper and strode briskly into the forest, the cool Autumn air rushing against my chapped lips as I walked. I reached over to scratch an itch on my arm when I saw it.
“The fuck?” I wondered out loud. There on my upper forearm was…a bite mark. I rattled my brain trying to think what could have made that kind of mark. As I examined it more I confirmed my suspicions. It seemed human. At least I think it was human. It’s not like there are any goddamn monkeys native to Middle of Nowhere, California. There was also a dark purple bruise on my lower forearm. Didn’t remember getting that either.
I looked around for a good spot. Stepping over a log, I set my foot down on something soft. It was Alice. Her right hand crushed and mangled and a dried trickle of blood at the corner of her mouth had pooled on a flattened leaf. I screamed, tripping and falling back in the direction I hoped was the camp. As I jumped over a rock I landed hard on my left ankle as a streak of pain shot up through my body. I was trying to get back up when I heard it. The screeching. It steadily yet quickly faded in until it flooded my hearing. My vision was clouded by that same static. I curled up into a ball, kicking at the air. My eyes watered and I felt the urge to vomit…
A wave of dizziness hit me as I opened my eyes and fell on my tailbone, pain shooting up my back. I lay down on my back and looked up at the trees, my nose bloody. It was still dark. Had I been standing? I tried to recall what I had been doing but all I remembered were faded images. One thing I didn’t forget was the screeching. All that I could remember was covered by that screeching and a faint veil of that static. Just thinking about it made my head throb.
A groan. I nearly jumped out of my skin as I turned to look in the sound’s direction. It was David. He looked injured, lying on the ground, but quickly crawled back in what looked like fear when he saw me.
“You bitch!” He muttered between gritted teeth. Before I could react he was up on his feet charging in my direction. I tried to doge him but the wind was quickly knocked out of me as he headbutted me in the stomach. I fell back onto the ground and between coughs I saw him running towards me. Before he could deliver a heavy stomp to my chest I caught his foot and kicked up into his groin. He stumbled back with a low yelp of pain and, taking my chance while he was stunned, I stood up as fast as I could and prepared to block another attack. He ran up to me and attempted to deliver a blow to my stomach with his right fist, leaving his upper body undefended; I used the opportunity to send a hard punch into the side of his neck. He fell back choking, tears in his eyes. As he tried to sit down he tripped on a root and hit his head on a nearby boulder with a sickening crack. He squirmed for a moment, then nothing.
Silence. There was a faint red stain on the side of the rock, and beneath his blood-stained hair, his head seemed unnervingly misshapen. The closer I looked, the more I saw. Bruised neck, flowing blood, even some pinkish bone exposed near the worst of the damage to his skull. The fall must’ve been worse than I thought. Why would he attack me? What was wrong with him? Had he mistaken me for someone else? I sat against the blood-stained boulder and leaned my head back. I’m exhausted. Everything hurts. My ankle is throbbing. I can’t remember how long it’s been since I’ve slept and I don’t know what to do. I should probably go try to find the camp but…I’m too tired. I think I’m going to go to sleep now.
-September 18
I slept through the entire day and most of the night! Or, at least I think I did. The more I think about it I’m not so sure. It’s like 2:30 AM, glad my phone still works even if my brain doesn’t, just wish I had signal. I’m not sure what to do but I might try to go find
-4:29 AM
Something’s definitely out here with us. Or–me. Not sure how many of the others are left out here. I’m sure that shrieking is tied to something. I heard something off in the distance while writing and decided to go check it out. It was Matthew and that other girl. They were walking briskly and their eyes seemed to be darting around frantically. They were talking in hushed tones but from what I heard they found Alice's body, and they were worried. I was about to reveal myself to them when the shrieking came back. It hit me like a train, and sometimes I think a train would have hurt less. It felt like it lasted for hours, I bit a hole through my lip and fell off of the boulder I was sitting on. I couldn’t see anything except a dark patch of static in the middle of my vision surrounded by more static. All the cuts and bruises in my body seemed to amplify and I could barely breathe. I just wanted it to stop but it wouldn’t. It wouldn’t stop.
The two were dead when I came to. I wasn’t much better off myself. No matter how much I spit I can’t get the taste of blood out of my mouth. My arms are covered in cuts and bruises and my shoulder was dislocated. That was a fun half hour figuring out how to put it back in place. I think whatever is out here with us clouds your vision and makes it impossible to hear anything as a way to hunt you. I’m amazed it hasn’t killed me yet. I hope Ryan is still out there.
-6:06 AM
It’s been a long night. A really long night. I found Ryan but–but now I wish I hadn’t. It was around five AM I think, I had been aimlessly wandering through the forest looking for something, anything. By the most unlucky luck Ryan came stumbling around a tree. When he saw me his eyes went wide.
“Jon, what the hell?” Then he squinted his eyes and seemed to notice the wounds on my arm.
“Oh god,” he said. Then, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small knife, glaring at me during the process. Before I could reply, he charged me, knife in hand. I–I didn't want to kill him. I really didn’t. He tackled me to the ground, forcing the knife close to my chest. I desperately tried to push him away and being the stronger one, I knocked him off me. As he hurried to get back on top of me I sent my right leg flying into his arm, knocking the knife from his hand. Before he realized what was happening I grabbed the knife from the ground. In what seemed like a last desperate attempt he tried to force me down again but, already having the knife in my hand, I quickly slashed his chest and one of his wrists without thinking. I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t mean to kill him! I was just defending myself. I don’t know why he attacked me, what’s gotten into him and David? Is that thing controlling them? They didn’t seem like they were under some kind of spell…I don’t think so at least.
After a soft cry of pain he collapsed and rolled down the steep hill we were standing on. I didn’t bother looking for his body. No point. Odds are that thing would use his body as a trap for me or something. I don’t know anymore.
Somehow I found my way back. I don’t remember how, all I remember is collapsing against a tree out of exhaustion but, here I am at the trailhead. I guess my half dead brain forgot most of it. I don’t know what I’ll do now, I don’t think I’ll tell the police. If they hear that some creepy ghost creature is hiding out in the forest killing my friends I’ll probably get locked up in who the fuck knows where for who the fuck knows what. But, no matter how many or how few believe me, I know something is out there. And I know it’s dangerous. I doubt the bodies will ever be found. That forest is huge and I buried Matthew and Elizabeth, found her name in a backpack she had on.
This will be my last entry. My name is Jonathan Ashford, and I survived something dangerous in the Tahoe national forest. Whatever you do, do not go there. Goodbye.
-September 22, 2022, 5:06 PM
Ryan survived. The police are after me. Apparently he told them I stalked them in the forest and picked them off when they weren’t together. I don’t know what’s happening. There are some gaps in my memory but I know that I didn’t kill those people. I only killed David, and that was self defense. I’m not sure what I’ll do. The police don’t know where I am but I’m sure that won’t last long.
-8:19 PM
I saw an interview with Ryan on the local news while browsing channels. He seemed–off. There were bags under his eyes and his skin was pale. He seemed nervous, shaky. I hope he’s ok. I still don’t understand why he thinks I killed them.
-September 23, 3:12 AM
ok ok. I have a theory. I’ve been up all night thinking and it makes so much sense now. That thing can shriek. Terrifying right? But explainable. The static I still can’t make sense of, there’s no feasible way it could naturally do that. What if whatever supernatural force causes the static can also control people? Maybe that’s why Ryan looks so crazy. It must be controlling him. But why would it want me? Am I immune to its effects? Maybe.
-6:04 AM
They didn’t notice it. It didn’t hit them. When I was spying on Matthew and Elizabeth, right before they were–anyways.
The shrieking hit my ears before the static hit my eyes and in those few seconds, they didn’t notice. It didn’t affect them. They didn’t hear the shrieking. Maybe the shrieking is that monster thing's abilities failing to control me. Maybe that's why ryan-whatever’s controlling Ryan wants me. It’s because I’m a threat to it. Because It can’t control me. When I woke up I was injured, but never killed like the others. Maybe it doesn’t have as much power over me as others.
But why would the authorities believe Ryan? There’s no way his story can add up. Even if that creature, that thing, is intelligent, it can’t be that smart to fake a story. Why are they after me?
-11:42 PM
The police came by today. I was about to update this log again when they started banging on my door. I was able to sneak out a window before they noticed me, glad I live on the ground floor.
Something seemed off about them. I can’t say what but, something, like the uncanny valley effect, where something looks human but isn't. Whatever. It’s probably just my imagination. I need sleep.
-September 24, 2:20 AM
Something is wrong–something is definitely wrong. How did they find me? Holy shit that was close! I was dozing by a couple of dumpsters behind a gas station. Figured it was safe enough since it was out of the way and partly blocked by a fence until I heard dogs barking. Not sure how many of them there are, at least two–maybe three, I can still hear them barking. I figured they were just strays that would hopefully leave me alone until I saw the lights. Damn things half-blinded me!
“Son, what are you doing back here? Can we walk to you?” one of the officers said, his face was clammy and pale, he seemed tired, he seemed–off. I didn’t respond or wait for them to try and get closer, I dashed past them before they could call their dogs on me and jumped the fence, running into the tree line. I managed to climb my way up a tree a ways into the woods before they could get around the fence and send their dogs out. They haven’t found me yet, but they’re still looking for me. I can see their flashlights periodically bathing the tree line in a pale glow. I think I’ll try to wait them out and then climb down and run for as long as I can. Not sure where I’ll go yet but they keep finding me so I’ll have to get creative. Not sure how they’re finding me so quickly and easily, but maybe I can come up with something. Is that–thing finding me? Does it always know where I am? Is it controlling the police? Maybe that's why they looked so…wrong. I don’t know. I’m starting to think I don’t know anything anymore. I keep noticing the static in the corner of my vision occasionally, not sure why.
-September 24, 5:03 PM
I fucked up. Big time. Last night, somehow, I fell asleep. I don’t know how, guess I was just too exhausted. The sound of a helicopter pierced through the top of the tree line. Before I could register everything, I slipped and fell down the tree. I was able to slow my fall a bit by dragging my hands along the tree–hurt like a bitch–but I still landed hard. Can barely sit down. I think I was able to avoid being detected by the helicopter. I’m going to start walking. Not sure where but, I need to go somewhere. The static is constantly in the corner of my vision whenever I focus on it now. Why is this happening?
-10:44 PM
This doesn’t make any sense, I don’t know what's happening anymore! I was wandering through the forest when the static came back. God, it was awful, forgot how bad it was. Hell, maybe it was worse this time. Who knows. This isn’t the weirdest, or worst, part. I woke up in my apartment, I’m exhausted, but don’t have any new visible injuries despite how shitty I feel. Not sure why that thing didn’t try to hurt me, maybe it gave up on trying.
The news was on when I woke up, God I’m so fucked. They found the bodies–the ones that I buried. Of course they found my DNA all over them, used their forensics or whatever to try to explain how I killed everyone. I’ll have to admit if it wasn’t all a setup by some evil entity out to get me it would be pretty convincing. Sometimes–I find myself believing it. I don’t know what to think at this point, nothing makes sense anymore. The static is far more noticeable now. My head is starting to hurt, too.
They haven’t come back to my apartment yet, probably don’t think I would return this soon after they searched the place. I know they’ll be here eventually but I’m too tired to care right now. My brother and his kids used to live a few hours out of town, I think he built a treehouse for his kids somewhere behind the house. Maybe I’ll go try and hide out there for as long as I can. As if that will be very long at all.
-September 26, 6:24 PM
Everywhere I look, everything I watch. They’re always out for me. Everyone is looking for me. The things the police and the media keep saying about me–the evidence that gets released every day, the testimonies, officials saying I have symptoms of psychological problems like psychosis and DID, of Bipolar. More and more–I’m starting to believe it myself. Surely it's that thing. Surely it’s getting in my head…right?
-September 27, 1:03 PM
Made it to the treehouse, glad it’s still here. Had a few close calls along the way when trying to steal food from gas stations but I made it ok. Glad I did, the static is starting to really cloud my vision and my head hurts so bad my ears are starting to ring. I’m not out of the woods yet, that’s for sure. I can sense them...it. They’re trailing me. I think they’re getting close.
I’m so tired, so confused. I don’t know what to do, what to think anymore. What’s next? Maybe I’ll try to get some rest…if I can, that is.
I could try to come up with something, some silver bullet or whatever. I have this one idea, it’s not smart or clever, not even close, but it’s an idea, and it won’t let it–them–it, whatever, win. At least I don’t think it will; besides, surely it has a bigger plan for me, right? There’s no way it would go through all this effort just to kill me…
-4:39
They found me. I can hear them outside. They’re getting closer.
To be honest, I don’t know anymore. Maybe I did kill all those people, maybe I am insane. I don’t know what to believe. There’s so much being said, so many people saying it. I’m just so confused, so tired, so scared.
There's a bomb on the chair beside me, homemade. Glad I grabbed enough supplies to build it. Took me a while to figure it out as well as a few close calls but I think I got it working. They’ll have quite the surprise waiting for them once they find me…
They’re at the base of the tree now. The static has almost completely consumed my vision and my head feels like it’s about to explode. I don’t know what’s real and what’s not anymore. I’m not sure why I was made the target of this, why this is happening to me at all, but regardless of the reason, I won’t let them win.
To the creature, or entity, to whatever is doing this to me: I’ll see you in Hell.
Goodbye
Aside from some generic legal stuff to conclude the report, that’s where the document ends. I’m not sure what to make of it. Definitely a lot to take in. I contacted the OP on the site I got this from but haven’t received a response yet, will update if I receive one. For now my only advice is be careful, and don’t go backpacking in Tahoe National Forest. If anyone has any thoughts or info, please, let me know.

How the Mercy of God, Not the Mongolian Mountains, Helped a Couple Become Parents After Twenty Years of Childless Marriage

It is not uncommon for people to come to the faith through sorrow or joy. I would like to share with readers a vivid story from my childhood, which made a strong impression on me and afterwards helped me come to the faith, get baptized and become a church-goer.
Our family was on a business trip to Mongolia in the 1980s. It was in the small town of Erdenet. We had a lot of friends there who we would visit regularly.
Among my parents’ acquaintances there was a married couple, both pediatricians—Mikhail and Lyudmila. They were a beautiful and interesting couple, but childless.
One day Mikhail and Lyudmila invited some close friends to their home; they said they would reveal a secret to all of them… Everyone was intrigued. They imagined various things, but no one hit the nail on the head.
Mikhail, an adult man who went in for sports, laughed and cried like a child. He now stood up, now sat down while sharing the secret with us:
“Lyudmila and I have been married for over twenty years now. We got married in our first year at university. We have always dreamed of a big, closely-knit family, with both daughters and sons, with a lot of noise and fun at home. We so wanted to hear children's laughter! But the doctors diagnosed infertility. We went to various sanitariums, underwent mud therapy and all kinds of other procedures. We saw the most famous doctors, and my wife courageously did various tests, some of which were painful—but it was all in vain.
“Three years ago we moved to Mongolia. Before that, there had been business trips to Latin America and Africa. And now Lyuda1 is in her first trimester. We didn’t tell anyone earlier because we couldn't believe it and were afraid it was a mistake. The first months of pregnancy are very sensitive and complicated. The gynecologist said that if we managed to get through the first three months, then we wouldn't have to worry anymore.”
Silence began to reign after such a speech. Even we, the children, stopped joking and laughing, somehow feeling the importance of what had been said, intuitively realizing that we had come into contact with a miracle.
After a few minutes the hospitable hosts were bombarded with questions.
Lyudmila was shining with happiness:
“I had never thought that I, a physician and the author of several scientific articles, would utter the word ‘miracle’. But I can't call it otherwise! I have a grandmother who is a long-liver. Twenty years ago she said that she would pray for me in front of an icon of the Most Holy Mother of God. She believed in the mercy of the Lord and His Most Pure Mother. I showed understanding, thinking that she was an elderly woman and these were remnants of the past…
“But what has happened to us demonstrates that my religious grandmother was right: the mercy and love of the Lord are always with us. So many years of treatment and hope... Now we are both almost forty years old, and in six months we will become the happiest mother and father.”
Everyone congratulated the couple, saying kind and beautiful words. Then the guests tried to “figure out” what exactly had helped Lyudmila get pregnant. They suggested many different explanations: One of them assumed that a change of climate had had a wholesome effect on the woman's body, another one supposed that the presence of mountains and a slightly high radioactivity level had played a role, while others believed that the treatment, albeit belatedly, had borne fruit at last.
Lyudmila put a crystal glass of homemade fruit drink on the table and said seriously:
“I see only one explanation: It’s neither the mountains, nor the climate, nor the Gobi Desert. It’s a miracle. My grandmother turned out to be much smarter than me. She always said that we would have a child, because the Lord and His Most Pure Mother are merciful. But until recently I stubbornly believed that since the doctors had diagnosed infertility, no prayers could help. Foolishly, I equated my grandmother’s earnest prayers with the spells of various psychics who ‘cure’ childlessness with a decoction of a cat’s tail or by sprinkling ashes on the bed! As soon as my pregnancy was confirmed, we immediately called my grandmother. I cried with joy and then, of course, I apologized for being skeptical about her words about God and faith. I thanked her.
“But, nevertheless, my Komsomol upbringing affected me. At the end of the conversation, I asked my grandmother why the Lord had sent us a baby only twenty years later, if she had started praying earlier. My wise grandmother replied that I would understand it myself. Now I know that getting ready to become a mother at my age (over thirty-five), when all attempts to cure infertility did not help; when, according to all biological laws, the chances of getting pregnant even for a very healthy woman decline, is a miracle of God. This is the power and mercy of the Lord. I recall how my grandmother once told me a chapter from the Gospel about how the elderly holy Prophet Zachariah and the holy Righteous Elizabeth became the parents of the holy Prophet John the Baptist, and how the Archangel Gabriel announced the Good News to the Virgin Mary… Before confirming my pregnancy, the doctors had ruled out uterine fibroids and cancer, re-examining everything and repeating tests many times, and only then did they tell me the good news: ‘Believe it or not, but marvel—you will be a mother.’ When I asked them how it was possible, they smiled and said that such a phenomenon could only be called a miracle, as they could not explain it from a scientific point of view.”
The whole town of Erdenet followed the events in their family. Everyone offered their help, gave children’s clothes and toys. Lyudmila’s husband walked with her before going to bed, bought groceries himself and cooked only healthy food intended for expectant mothers.
After a while, the couple went to Moscow for the birth. In due time, a beautiful, healthy boy was born.
Later, the happy parents sent us a long letter: after a month and a half, the baby was baptized with the name Zakhary (Zachariah).
At that time, the authorities began to return monasteries and churches to the Russian Orthodox Church, and many people began to go to church for confession and Communion. Mikhail and Lyudmila converted to the faith as well.

2024.05.16 03:33 Mistro0o Party Planning Pro-Tips

Hey Reddit, it's your friendly neighborhood party guru here! Feeling the itch to throw a legendary get-together but stressed about the planning?

Don't sweat it, fellow redditors! Here's a breakdown to turn you from party planning newbie to bonafide bash maestro:

Step 1: The Foundation (Guest List, Date, Budget)

Guest List: Who's invited? Keep it intimate or go for a blowout? Knowing the headcount helps with everything from food to furniture.
Date & Time: Friday nights are classic, but consider alternatives - like a fun Sunday brunch or a laid-back afternoon shindig.
Budget: Be realistic! Factor in food, drinks, decorations (DIY is your friend!), and any entertainment.

Step 2: Setting the Scene (Theme, Food & Drinks)

Theme (Optional): A luau, murder mystery, or neon night can add a fun twist. But a well-curated playlist and ambience can set the mood too!
Food & Drinks: Finger foods for mingling or a sit-down meal? Consider dietary restrictions and portion sizes. Batch cocktails are budget-friendly and crowd-pleasers.

Step 3: Deck the Halls (Decorations)

Decorations: Lights, streamers, balloons – personalize it! Hit up dollar stores or get crafty with DIY projects.
Pro Tip: Repurpose what you have! String fairy lights, use throw pillows for extra seating, or hang colorful sheets for a backdrop.

Step 4: Get the Party Started (Activities & Entertainment)

Activities: Board games, karaoke, a bonfire (weather permitting) – keep it interactive!
Music: Create a killer playlist that caters to different tastes. Allow guests to add requests for an extra touch.

Step 5: You're the Host with the Most (Guest Communication & Afterparty)

Guest Communication: Send out clear invites with your address and time. Let them know if it's BYOB (bring your own beverage) or potluck-style.
Afterparty: Thank your guests for coming! Maybe even share some funny pics (with permission, of course).
Bonus Round: Pro-Tips for a Stellar Party
Delegate tasks: Ask a friend to help with music, or assign someone to be the grill master.
Prepare for spills: Have paper towels, napkins, and a designated cleaning station.
Relax and have fun! Your guests can sense your energy. If you're having a blast, they will too!

2024.05.16 03:20 Eastern-Muffin-512 I'm not sure how to handle this situation but I really need a solution.

I, f 25 have been with my boyfriend, m 28, for a few years now. Things have been great and we've been through quite a bit together already but there's always push back when it comes to his family. He can freely say how much he doesn't like my sister or other family members though they have went out of there way to do nice things for him. (My sister has no filter so she is a little rude at times but still makes him homemade desserts or gets him/makes him stuff for Christmas and birthdays) his family on the other hand can do no wrong. I am also very close with my sister as she is the only person I really have left. Her and I don't really have friends or much family left and what we do have is down right horrible.
But anyway, his family disregards what I say or ignore me all together. They've given me multiple back handed compliments or just been rude to my face or they've went out of there way to invite him to family things but not me, whereas they specifically invite his siblings SO's. I know people say they assume he'll just invite me to go with him but it'd be one thing if they did that with everyone not just me.
I practically begged to make Christmas cookies with his mom just to be blown off and when Christmas came around she proudly dispalyed they cookies they made as a family without him or me. But when I brought it up that she could've called or texted to as me to help she just started talking to someone else. He's left me alone with his other siblings and they've whispered together instead of talking to me or they've texted eachother while I'm just sitting there though I have tried to talk to them they ignore me or roll their eyes. I've made homemade dessert for family gatherings just for people to not even touch it bc someone else made something. I've given them a car without any sort of payment bc they needed it at the time.
They don't treat him great either. Most of the time, when it's not a holiday, if they call him it's bc they need something done or fixed like a computer or they need help putting in a fence while the other siblings watch or stay in the house. The parents boast their other kids/kids SOs accomplishment but not his. He sees nothing wrong with this though, like even if it is the normal for him he's a grown man and should be able to see that it's not right.
He gets annoyed when I say anything so I've just been holding it all in but should i finally say something about it? He keeps telling me I'm overreacting but I'm just sick of being quite about it now. I've stopped seeing them all together bc I can't deal with it anymore and I've asked him to say something at least on my behalf but he says there's nothing to say as they haven't done anything wrong. I just dont know what to do or how to handle this situation. Any ideas?

2024.05.15 20:56 PlummyDeath A Story: The Misfortunes of Lunabelle Tweed

I was so surprised by the chaos and drama of my current playthrough that I wanted to type it all out to share. Would love to hear your stories!
Background
Lunabelle Tweed is the youngest daughter of my original character and the young mayor Benjamin Whitfield. Her name is a portmanteau of Luna McBelle, the lighthouse worker who saved us, and Isabelle Whitfield, who tragically died in an early game spallpox epidemic. The name is very Renesmee coded, but I was running out of creativity and did not anticipate sharing this out.
Her parents, who were elderly by the time she was born, passed away soon after she reached adulthood and so Lunabelle lived alone with her older brother, Lucian. While Lucian succeeded his father as mayor, Lunabelle inherited the family farm. She grew up curious and shy, but with great love of the outdoors—a good little kid with every privilege at her fingertips, seemingly poised for a beautiful life.
Chapter 1: The Beginning
As a young woman, Lunabelle frequents the Sleeping Siren Inn in search of good company and elusive gold star meals. As the island prospered, the inn grew in popularity, requiring two innkeepers and an apprentice to keep up with demand. Lunabelle becomes dear friends with all three: Penelope Hull, Hollie Cooper (the apprentice), and most important of all, Jolene Hutton.
It was also at the inn that Lunabelle first meets Ruben, the third generation child of the Bayley family and the local fisher. They are the person of Lunabelle’s dreams—romantic, stubborn, and quick. Lunabelle is immediately enamored. She gifts them roses and homemade candies, dreaming of a future together.
Just before Lunabelle can propose—a shocking betrayal! Jolene and Ruben announce an impromptu engagement. Lunabelle is devastated. While she resents Ruben, nothing can compare to her fury towards Jolene. For the first time, Lunabelle notices Jolene's cruel, selfish nature.
Lunabelle begins an on-again, off-again romance with Penelope Hull, who deserved far better than to be a rebound. Penelope is perfect—kind, genius, and unflirty (a healthy change)—but Lunabelle struggles to forget Ruben. The two go on dates, and despite the ring in her inventory, Lunabelle never proposes. Making matters worse, every time she speaks with Ruben (and now, their young daughter Imogene), they complain about how poorly Jolene treats them.
Lunabelle harbors dark thoughts, considering giving Jolene a death cake and marrying Ruben herself—but resists. She’s no murderer. Instead, Lunabelle resolves to treat Penelope right. She purchases a final bouquet from Lavender Boutique and the most expensive ring she can from the blacksmith, ready to move on to the next stage of her life.
Chapter 2: The Epidemic
The next morning, Penelope is nowhere to be found. The town is eerily quiet. Those walking about look strange—grey skin, heavy eyes. The visiting sailors spread consumption through town.
Penelope dies first. Ruben follows. By the next weekend, almost every adult in town has perished. By some miracle, Lunabelle’s older brother Lucian and his husband Tom Hull (Penelope’s brother) survive, but it’s small consolation. Lunabelle wonders why Penelope and Ruben had to die, but Jolene lives on. The entirety of winter is back-to-back funerals.
Lunabelle is distraught with grief, but grateful to have her brother and his family. In solidarity with the townsfolk, she adopts Erma O’Dell, an orphan who lost her entire family—all grandparents, both parents, and older brother—during the outbreak. This new family, however, proves more difficult than anticipated. Erma develops a lazy, selfish personality, and the two frequently bicker.
Despite the trauma of losing both Penelope and Ruben, Lunabelle still hopes to find love and build a legacy. She goes on a date with now-grown Hollie Cooper, who apprenticed at the inn with Penelope and Jolene, and the two reminisce over fond memories of days gone by. However, the shared grief proves too much—Hollie rejects Lunabelle’s proposal. It’s for the best: they should look to the future, not linger on the past. The two part amicably.
Chapter 3: Jolene Is Enemy
With few surviving eligible options, Lunabelle goes on a date with Anna Hutton… sister to the cruel Jolene, her enemy. Despite bad blood, so much time and grief has come between them, and Lunabelle cares about Ruben’s daughter Imogene like her own. They could all become one big, happy family. But Jolene had other plans.
The date is disastrous. While Anna is nice enough, Jolene ambushes their date at the waterfall, sitting behind them and scribbling notes. Lunabelle is livid and storms off before the hour is up.
In an effort to repopulate, newcomers begin to move to town, arriving on ships each weekend. Lunabelle tries her luck, to no avail. The new hunter quickly marries the blacksmith; the new innkeeper marries the new doctor. Unlucky in love, Lunabelle resolves to break from dating and focus on her family.
Every day, Lunabelle visits her brother and his two children, gifting them homemade candy and toys when she can. Her nephew Jamie has grown into a fine young man and the spitting image of his grandfather, Benjamin Whitfield. Her niece Francis is a diligent, kind child, and even Erma has grow up well, succeeding the O’Dell family legacy as milliner. Despite their rocky start, Erma and Lunabelle find common ground. Lunabelle is, at last, proud of her daughter. Her only worry is Imogene, Ruben’s daughter with Jolene, who has grown up as cruel as her mother.
Chapter 4: Jolene Strikes Again
All seems peaceful—too peaceful. The next morning, Lunabelle finds a wedding invitation in her mailbox. It’s none other than Jolene...and Jamie. The wedding is in five days. Lunabelle knows what must be done.
As if by fate itself, the witch Astra Vosen sends Lunabelle a surprise gift: a death cake by mail. The day before the wedding, Lunabelle waits for the inn to open. Behind the counter is Jolene, wearing her same cruel smirk. Jolene, her former friend. Jolene, who stole Lunabelle’s lover and bullied her own child. Jolene, who sabotaged Lunabelle’s relationship with Anna. Jolene, who now targets Jamie. Lunabelle offers the cake as an engagement gift. The deed is done.
At Jolene’s funeral, only Jamie cries. Little did anyone know, because of the back-to-back funerals from the consumption epidemic, Jamie and Jolene already married in secret, and somehow had time to both have a child and for Jamie to become pregnant with another. Lunabelle was too late. Her only regret is not killing Jolene sooner.
With Jolene gone, Lunabelle finally marries Anna Hutton, and this time nobody ambushes their romance. It isn’t love, per se, but at least they aren’t lonely. Together, they have two children: Fortuna and Prospero, named with the hope they will meet better fates.
The Finale
Jolene’s memory haunts her. Lunabelle dwells in regret that she could not save Jamie from Jolene’s grip—a mistake she vows never to repeat. She wonders what her fate might have been had she murdered Jolene all those years ago.
Another invitation, this time the wedding of Imogene and Francis, Lunabelle’s niece. Excitement gives way to dread. Lunabelle once loved Imogene as a daughter, but Jolene’s influence has taken its toll. Imogene might resemble Ruben, but she inherited her mother’s cruelty. Lunabelle will do whatever it takes to protect Francis, even at the cost of her soul. She purchases another death cake.
This time, Lunabelle grapples with guilt and indecision. She still sees the little girl she loved as her own. She keeps the cake in her inventory and runs her errands, hoping to clear her head.
Then, the unthinkable happens—or perhaps, it was destiny all along. As evening progresses, Lunabelle grows peckish. In a moment of carelessness, she eats the poisoned cake herself.
That was the end of Lunabelle Tweed.

2024.05.15 19:41 Worth_Substance6590 Was I wrong for not visiting my mom more when she was in the hospital?

My parents routinely bring this up and it just seems like it’s time to let it go, but I’m wondering if I really did something very horrible. A similar situation is happening now and I’m wondering how differently I should handle it. For background my mom was physically abusive to me and I ‘escaped’ from her insanity about 6 months ago.
I got engaged in Spring 2020, and that summer (so early Covid days) I was a state employee and was asked to work at a Covid test site which soon became a vaccine site. This was 1.5 hours from my house and the hours were 6am-6pm so I was out of my house from 430am-730pm. It was at least 5 days/week, sometimes more. I was so exhausted that I started to lose my vision in 1 eye, that went away as soon as I stopped working those hours. My husband and I also had a small farm, multiple rental properties, there was just a lot going on.
My mom was making my wedding planning an absolute nightmare, she would call me and scream at me bringing up things from before I was even born (issues with my biological dad), sit my husband and I down for hours long discussions about why our wedding planning was selfish, etc. The issue for her was that we wanted a small wedding with only our families (25ish people) and my sister was having a huge $100k+ wedding that fall and we were planning on our small wedding being around that time as well, because I was told I have fertility issues and may not be able to become pregnant so we wanted to move things along quickly. I don’t even know why I entertained her opinions and these conversations but I was just terrified of upsetting her because she would unleash this rage that left me emotionally decimated for days or weeks at a time (I’m in therapy now and feel a lot better). Since our wedding was small we didn’t need any money for it from her and needed very little input from my parents, but I did let them invite some of their friends after enough arguing (it was super awkward and I hated it) and tried to entertain these conversations because they’re my parents.
July 2020 my mom went in for a routine surgery and I guess because she’s in absolutely terrible shape due to never exercising and eating junk food every day plus whatever error the doctor may have made, it turned into a near-death experience and she had to be in the hospital for 2ish weeks and after she went home she had to go back for another week. Lots of tests, infections, resulting in her being discharged ‘healthy’ and she went back to her normal life.
This was the height of my work at the Covid site and I was partly in charge of managing the site. The hospital she was it was an hour away from my house, the opposite direction as the test site. I got coverage and visited my mom a 2 or 3 times the first week she was in the hospital. This was during the heat of the screaming episodes she had at me so I felt really uncomfortable but pretended to be a good daughter and brought her everything I could, like self care packages, sat with her, did her hair, she’d text me when I was a few minutes from the hospital asking me to pick her up some smoothies or sandwiches from a place in the next town over and I’d just do it. When she went home I brought her healthy ready to eat groceries and homemade food that rotted in their refrigerator, while they asked for more. My stepdad was fully available this whole time and I cooked and brought him food too.
My mom would complain that I wasn’t involving her in my wedding plans enough while in the hospital. That was something I didn’t want to discuss with her bc of how stressful the conversations were, I tried to tell her we can talk about it later, but she got really upset and so I gave in and updated her on the progress. Immediately it turned into a fight and she screamed and cried at me. My stepdad called me and absolutely eviscerated me for ‘doing this’ to my mom. I was in shock and didn’t visit her for about a week after that.
A few months after her hospital situation, the calls started coming where she’d cry on the phone about how I never visited her at the hospital, I abandoned her, I’m horrible and selfish, etc. She got her medical records and read through them to try and make a lawsuit which never happened and apparently the only thing she saw in the records was that I was never visiting.
Yes, I could have visited more. But how much more? I wonder what was actually expected of me? I have a life, I was going into a panic freeze mode when I thought of her and completely shut down when I saw her. I was trying my best to balance everything. But now this situation is brought up and I don’t know what to think about it. Now my grandma is in the hospital and it’s turning into the same situation and I don’t know what to do or think.
