Hi everyone!
I stream games on Twitch using OBS but have been experiencing lag on the stream, though not much in-game, even with the encoder set to GPU. I'm currently streaming at 720p (though 1080p would be ideal) and have been looking to upgrade my setup.
Current Specs: - CPU: Ryzen 7 5700x - GPU: GTX 1650 - RAM: 2x8GB 3200MHz - SSD: 120GB - HDD: 2TB - PSU: 600W

The US dollar may not be ready to roll over just yet: The Week Ahead

Movements of the US dollar following soft US CPI data has been the highlight for traders this week, which saw the US dollar index endure its worst day of the year on Wednesday. Yet with key levels of support holding around 104, dip buyers appear to be taking advantage of what appears to be a vanilla trendline trade; buy the dip around the trendline. Besides, we know that futures traders were heavily net long the dollar just one week ago, so perhaps this recent pullback will be seen as a decent buying opportunity by funds at better prices.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next Friday’s COT report to see just how many of the US dollar bulls were shaken out of their longs. But as we head into next week I suspect there could be some upside potential for the greenback.
FOMC minutes and Fed speakers are the main events for the US next week, although it is debatable as to how much volatility they will generate. On that same token, less data means less chance of bad data surfacing to push the dollar lower. So we may find that volatility is on the lower side, and that can often allow markets to retrace against their prior move. And in this case that could support the US dollar next week.

In all likelihood, the FOMC minutes will reveal little new information to help decipher the Fed’s next move. Regardless, it is one of those events that cannot be ignored. Their last minute reminded us that “members” wanted greater confidence that “inflation is moving sustainably towards 2%”. We know that inflation came in slightly softer and in line with market expectations, but I’d argue it hasn’t come down quickly enough to provide the confidence for the Fed it seeks to signal a cut, as much as traders want them to.
We also have plenty of Fed speakers, but looking through many of the titles suggests they might not be the biggest drivers for market volatility. But like the minutes, traders need to have these on their radar. Just in case.

UK inflation:

The BOE’s chief economist said this week that a summer cut could be on the table, although it remains up for debate whether that could be in June or August. Wages remain sticky at 6% y/y, even if unemployment and jobless claims rose whilst job ‘growth’ plunged for a second month. So it could be down to next week’s UK inflation figures as to whether we can expect a cut as soon as June, and whether there is wriggle room for a second 25bp cut before the year end.

Flash PMIs:

Inflation and employment reports tend to be the main focus for traders when trying to decipher central bank policies (in that order). Yet flash PMIs are a great complement, as the surveys provide a forward look at growth expectations, inflationary pressures and employment trends. And with traders obsessed with if, when and when cuts could arrive, they’ll likely want to short any currency that shows weaker growth potential, employment and lower inflationary pressures present within the flash PMI report. Thursday is a big day for PMI surveys as we’ll see reports for the UK, Europe and of course the US. Australia and Japan kick off last on Wednesday, and sometimes they can provide a lead of what to expect in Europe and the US.

US earnings (Nvidia, Dollar Tree, Target)

If we had to pick a single stock that tends to drive the general direction of the US stock market (particularly the Nasdaq 100), it is Nvidia (NVDA). Nvidia’s 20-day rolling correlation sits at 0.84 to show a strong positive correlation. And that means that traders will pay very close attention to their earnings report when it is released on Wednesday.
But traders can also glean consumer sentiment from the Dollar Tree (DLTR) and Target (TGT) earnings reports. If there are signs of weakness in consumer spending or warnings that future earnings are set to suffer, it could be taken as a sign that the economy is indeed slowing, and weigh on yields and the US dollar on bets of Fed cuts.

RBNZ meeting:

It is almost a given the RBNZ will not change policy next week, despite the hype of other central banks potentially cutting over the next few months. The RBNZ maintained a slight upside bias for the OCR in February’s forecast, and for it to top at 5.6% at the end of the year and likely only seeing a single 25bp cut in late 2025.
The main thing to look for next week is a revision of their quarterly forecasts to see if the OCR outlook (and of course inflation) has been lowered.

Boeing simply has been a punching bag, but big $ is waiting to pour down upon them. I think free money ahead.
1). All the latest and greatest aircraft designs are in queue. Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, 737 MAX, and the 777X. Fuel efficient aircraft second to none. Airliners praying for them all over the world.
2). Management change coming. Everybody says get it right including Uncle Sam.
3). Normal production was close to 50/month vs roughly 34 today. They will get back to quota soon. That would be roughly $5.8 B addition profit per year.
If a decent new - not extraordinary management team is put in place, I would think a profit margin of -3% could easily convert to 10% conservatively quickly. Target price $450 within 52 weeks.

2024.05.17 00:57 Missing_Back Am I dumb/miscalcuating something? Should I go for dream car vs reasonable car?

tl;dr Looking at three cars. If the first car doesn't work out for preference reasons, we're looking at our dream car (Tesla Model Y) and a reasonable "economy" car (Toyota Rav4). I crunched some numbers and it seems like the Tesla Model Y isn't a bad decision, and might even be better. Want to get more eyes on this to see if I'm missing anything obvious and/or did bad math
Recently married, in the process of combining finances, and wife needs a new car. Her 2009 Nissan Murano has been dying for a while. Our other vehicle is a 2003 Toyota 4Runner which just got some repairs so hopefully will be good for another 100k miles.
I've done a lot of research and narrowed it down to:
The Bolt is the #1 winner, clear as day. But my wife has anxiety about smaller cars, so we're test driving one this weekend to see if it'll work for us. If it does, then great. We're going with that and the rest of the post doesn't matter. If not, we need to look at the other options.
I crunched some numbers and it seems like the "dream car" (the Tesla Model Y) might not be a terrible decision, and potentially even a better option than the Rav4. But I'm thinking surely I messed up my math.

Tesla Model Y
I'm aware that the Model Y's cost is cheaper partly because of the longer loan term, but even when extrapolating out to 1-10 years, the Model Y is either cheaper or they're very close.
Depending on the exact numbers I plugged in, the Model Y and the Rav4 are weirdly similar in cost compared to how different the vehicles are, and if the EUV ends up not being an option, I think getting a Model Y might actually make sense. Even if it was a smidge higher, I think, assuming the math is on point and there's nothing dumb I've forgotten, it might still be worth it personally to spend that extra to get a much nicer (IMO) car. But in this case, it's actually cheaper.
Considering that I tried to lowball the Rav4 and high ball the Model Y, that adds to the "huh?" moment. I'm sure my numbers aren't all correct and maybe I'm missing stuff, but this is my overall impression right now.
I'd love to get some second opinions on this and if I'm misunderstanding something/thinking about this the wrong way.

AUD/USD, ASX 200 eye a solid close for the week: Asian Open May 17, 2024
AUD/USD and the ASX 200 have flourished this week thanks to renewed bets of Fed cuts, even though softer employment and wages data for Australia rekindled hopes of a lower RBA cash rate.

  • US data was mixed overnight, which saw the probability of a June cut by the Fed dip back below 50%, according to Fed fund futures
  • Whilst building permits, housing starts and the Philadelphia manufacturing index were lower, the import price index – a gauge of inflation – rose 0.9% m/m compared with 0.2% expected, or 1.1% compared to 0.4% previously
  • Wall Street indices came out of the gate with confidence to see all three major indices hit new highs and the Dow Jones tap 40k for the first time on record, yet gains were short lived with the S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow Jones all closing slightly lower for the day
  • The US dollar index recoup some of Wednesday’s heavy losses after finding support around the 104 handle and December trendline
  • We essentially saw all FX major retrace against Wednesday’s moves to various degrees, none of which seriously threatens the potential bearishness of the US dollar if incoming economic data continues to soften on aggregate
  • USD/JPY closed back above 155 after finding support just below our 154 target, EUUSD handed back earlier gains after failing to quite reach the 1.09 handle and USD/CHF rebounded strongly after a false break of the 0.9 handle.
  • A Reuters poll showed that 53% of economists expect the BOE to cut rate by 25bp in August, 39% estimate June
  • This comes ahead of a key inflation report for the UK next week, which could be the decider as to whether the BOE will opt for a June or August cut
  • RBA cash rate futures slowly began repricing the potential for an RBA cut this year after the ABS labour market report showed unemployment rose to 4.1% for the second time in four years, and the prior print was upwardly revised to 3.9% from 3.8% previously
  • Australia’s 2-year yield extended losses for a second day below 4% and closed at a 17-day low

ASX 200 at a glance:

  • Thursday was the best day for the ASX 200 this year, which closed just shy of the 7900 handle and record high
  • This sets it on track for a fourth consecutive bullish week, and a market that seems primed to bream to a new record high sooner than later
  • 10 of its 11 sectors rose led by real estate and information technology
  • Only the energy sector closed lower as it tracked crude oil prices from Wednesday
  • However, SPI 200 futures were lower with Wall Street overnight, which points to a small lower gap for the ASX 200 cash index today
  • The SPI 200 1-hour chart shows prices are pulling back towards a 38.2% Fibonacci level, but as we saw very strong volumes during the initial break above 7850, the bias is to seek dips towards the 7840/7850 area for a potential long setup
  • The RSI (2) is also approaching oversold to hint at a swing low, and the 10-bar EMA sits around the 7841 high for potential support
  • I doubt we’ll see it break to new highs this week, but odds favour an eventual break to a new record high in due course

AUD/USD technical analysis:

The Australian dollar looks set to close the week around its highest levels since early January, unless a surprise catalyst jolts markets, or China’s data performs poorly later today. The daily chart shows an indecision candle formed on Thursday which closed between the Q2 and Q3 prices. With traders betting on Fed cuts and coming around to the idea that the RBA may also have to cut rates, it seems to have killed momentum around the cycle highs. And that means traders may want to stick to intraday timeframes for AUD/USD as we head towards the weekend.
The 1-hour chart shows prices retraced back towards 0.6650 in a relatively straight line, although a bullish engulfing candle suggests support around this key level. Prices are now consolidating within the Q2 and Q3 open zone, so I a on guard for another pop higher towards 0.6700 in the earlier stages of today’s Asian session.
Unless China data is particularly strong, I question its ability to simply break to a new high today. In which case I am also on guard for another dip lower towards 0.6630

[US stocks powered higher on Wednesday, with all three major indexes jumping to all-time highs after consumer inflation cooled more than expected, lifting hopes for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates sooner.]()
The US consumer price index (CPI) slowed to a 0.3% increase in April, down from 0.4% a month earlier, lower than market expectations for a 0.4% rise, while the annual figure fell to 3.4%, down from 3.5%, in line with forecasts. The core CPI inflation rate eased to 3.6% from 3.8% in March.

Elsewhere on the economic front, US retail sales were unchanged in April, weaker than forecasts for a 0.4% rise.
The slowdown in consumer prices came a day after April producer price inflation came in stronger than expected. Traders now see a 50.5% chance that the US central bank will start cutting rates in September. Treasury yields fell sharply on the CPI news, while the dollar also dropped.
At the New York close, the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrials Average was up 0.9% at 39,908, while the S&P 500 added 1.2% at 5,308, and the Nasdaq Composite ended 1.4% higher at 16,742, all at closing peaks just below earlier intraday records.

Big tech stocks led the market rally, with Apple adding 1.2%, Google owner Alphabet up 1.3%, and AI chip maker Nvidia ahead 3.6%.
Elsewhere, Monday.com soared 21.4% after the cloud-based platform provider saw its first-quarter earnings beat expectations and it hiked its full-year forecasts.

But on the downside, after strong gains earlier this week two meme stocks came down to earth, with AMC Entertainment dropping 20.0% after the cinema chain announced a debt-for-equity swap, while GameStop stock fell 18.8%. Before Wednesday, GameStop and AMC were up 179% and 135%, respectively this week.
Away from tech, Boeing fell 2.1% after the Department of Justice said the airplane manufacturer had violated a settlement that prevented it from facing criminal prosecution related to two fatal 737 Max crashes.

Prices rose 0.4% over the prior month, matching March's pace and bringing the annual inflation rate down to 3.4%. Stripping out food and energy costs, economists expect core inflation fell to 3.6% annually in April, which would be the slowest pace in about three years. ‌
Biden hits China with tariffs: The White House announced a suite of new tariffs on Chinese goods on Tuesday, with a key focus on EVs. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, President Biden painted cheap goods flooding the market — subsidized by the Chinese government — as an attempt to "put everybody else out of business and then they take over." Biden also said he expects China to retaliate but that the trade conflict would be manageable. ‌
GameStop and AMC continue to surge: GameStop followed Monday's 74% gain with a 62% surge Tuesday as the company continues to ride the recent meme stock rally. AMC also saw a second day of gains, finishing Tuesday 33% higher after gaining 80% Monday. Shrewdly, the company disclosed it raised $250 million issuing stock after Monday's pop. ‌
Google's new search: Google unveiled a new way of googling at its I/O conference that, yes, involves a lot of AI. The biggest overhaul to its search engine in years will integrate its AI engine to provide complex answers to queries — with citations. This time, we hope they're real. Users will also be able to perform compound searches for more targeted results without resorting to googling multiple times. Today's Takeaway is by Jared Blikre, Markets Reporter ‌ Meme stocks survived another volatility-fueled session Tuesday. ‌ Taking a page from the 2021 playbook, GameStop and AMC Entertainment led the charge. ‌ Both meme stalwarts notched gains over 74% Monday and had further doubled their share prices on the open Tuesday — only to sell off most of the day into the close. Nevertheless, after dozens of volatility halts GameStop closed the day up 62% while AMC jumped by 30%.‌ Amid some gentle coaxing by Keith Gill (aka Roaring Kitty), a slew of names familiar to Reddit boards followed — companies like Koss, Tupperware, Virgin Galactic, Hertz, and BlackBerry. ‌ But while the explosion in volatility rightfully invites comparisons to the well-known 2021 saga that played out on Reddit and across US stock exchanges, 2024 is already proving to be quite different. ‌ This year, Wall Street is driving the bus. ‌
Vanda Research crunched the numbers and reported in a note to clients that GameStop and AMC have only seen a fraction of the inflows experienced in early 2021. Flows into these names at the peak of the early 2021 frenzy were over four times Monday's volume. ‌ "Do we think more retail traders can jump in on the trend in the coming days? Yes. Do we think this is a repeat of 2021? No, and the chances we reach that stage are low," said Vanda. ‌ Without glancing at a single stock chart, it's easy to point out that 2021 was likely a historical aberration fueled by bored recipients of pandemic stimulus checks. ‌ Wall Street was caught flat-footed. Hedge funds like Melvin Capital were obliterated. ‌ But institutional investors learned from the 2021 episode and are better prepared now, argues Vanda. ‌ "Quant/hedge funds are much better equipped to handle these situations nowadays," Vanda senior vice president Marco Iachini noted. "If anything, we believe the chances that they participate along with retail in the squeeze but also lean against and then exit these trades ahead of retail traders are high." ‌
As of Monday's close, the portion of share turnover in GameStop attributable to retail investors averaged 7% over the prior five days — and that number was only slightly higher for AMC. In 2021, the averages and spikes were materially higher, indicating much greater participation by retail traders. ‌ Data in the options market confirms a similar story. ‌ But the biggest difference this year might just be the lack of one single, coherent narrative like the meme story that captured headlines in 2021. ‌ Only last week, we wrote about the recent resurgence of volatility in meme names. "In a critical break from prior trading epochs, much of the recent meme stock volatility is being fueled by material news and fundamentals, like earnings, as opposed to Reddit posts," we wrote. Why the 2024 meme stock action is much tamer than 2021 — so far Indeed, our (unofficial) Yahoo Finance meme stock heat map reveals impressive returns over the last two days that are mostly green across the board. But aside from GameStop and AMC, these daily returns are decidedly not triple digits as they were three years ago. ‌ In fact, the bigger names on this list — like Coinbase, Carvana, and Palantir — have been making their gains the old-fashioned way: around earnings and bitcoin fundamentals.
How much Wednesday's inflation print surprises economists — up or down — will be of particular importance during Wednesday's trading day. ‌ But analyzing market action from CPI release days back to May 2023's print, the equity research team at Goldman Sachs led by David Kostin found that "interest rate sensitive pockets of the equity market typically experience particularly large moves on CPI days regardless of the magnitude of the surprise."
