Water in my NS 200 fuel tank? What to do now?
It's raining heavily since few days here. I park my bike outside. My owner keeps his car inside leaving no space for me to park my bike. So it rained last night heavily. I couldn't start my bike in the morning, after trying for few minutes it started but gave jerks while riding. I suspected of water in tank and found water. I drove my bike for few kilometers. Now what to do? I know that the fuel should be drained out immediately. What else to do? I think the damage is already done. Gonna change engine oil, drain the fuel tank, change air filter and spark plugs now. Tell me guys.

2024.05.17 08:40 getclueus Decoding Caterpillar SPN FMI Codes: A Complete Guide

Introduction

Ever wondered what those mysterious SPN FMI codes on your Caterpillar equipment mean? Understanding these codes is crucial for troubleshooting and maintenance. Let's discuss Caterpillar SPN FMI codes to decode their meanings and ensure your equipment runs smoothly.
These codes, standardized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), provide valuable diagnostic information. Each code consists of two parts: the Suspect Parameter Number (SPN) and the Failure Mode Identifier (FMI). The SPN identifies the component or system that's malfunctioning, while the FMI indicates the type of failure that has occurred.

Understanding SPN FMI Codes

SPN (Suspect Parameter Number) and FMI (Failure Mode Identifier) codes work together to indicate specific issues or faults in your Caterpillar equipment. These codes are like secret messages that reveal what's wrong with your machine.

Decoding Caterpillar SPN FMI Codes

Accessing the Diagnostic Display

When a fault occurs, accessing the diagnostic display on your Caterpillar equipment is the first step to identifying and resolving the issue. The diagnostic display provides crucial information about the health and status of your equipment, including any active faults.

Identifying the SPN FMI Code

Once you have accessed the diagnostic display, you need to locate the SPN FMI code. This code is a unique identifier that indicates the specific fault that has occurred. SPN stands for Suspect Parameter Number, while FMI stands for Failure Mode Identifier. Together, they provide detailed information about the nature of the problem.

Referencing the Caterpillar Troubleshooting Manual

To interpret the SPN FMI code, you will need to refer to the Caterpillar troubleshooting manual or online resources. These resources serve as your code-breaking guides, helping you understand the meaning of each code and the steps required to resolve the issue. The troubleshooting manual provides detailed explanations and instructions for diagnosing and repairing faults, ensuring that your equipment remains in optimal working condition.

Interpreting Common SPN FMI Codes

Let's crack some codes! Here are examples of common caterpillar spn fmi codes and what they mean:
Understanding the severity of each code is important for deciding on the next steps. Some codes may require immediate attention, while others can be addressed during scheduled maintenance.

Troubleshooting Based on SPN FMI Codes

General troubleshooting steps based on the identified codes include checking for loose connections, inspecting components for damage, and ensuring proper fluid levels. For complex issues, it's best to consult with a certified technician.

Preventive Maintenance and SPN FMI Codes

  1. Regular Inspections: Conduct routine checks to identify and address potential issues early on.
  2. Fluid Analysis: Regularly test fluids for signs of contamination or degradation.
  3. Component Lubrication: Ensure all components are properly lubricated according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
  4. Filter Replacement: Regularly replace filters to maintain optimal performance and prevent contaminants from damaging components.
  5. Software Updates: Keep your equipment's software up to date to ensure it's functioning correctly.
  6. Operator Training: Provide operators with training on proper equipment usage and maintenance practices.

Conclusion

Decoding Caterpillar SPN FMI codes is like solving a puzzle. By understanding these codes, you can keep your equipment running smoothly and avoid costly downtime. So next time you see an SPN FMI code, don't panic – crack the code and keep your Caterpillar equipment in top condition!

2024.05.17 06:53 EmojiOfAKeyboard First time boat owners: we did it

Wife's dream was owning a ski boat. last fall due to an amazing deal on a great condition 80s custom craft ski nautique, we got one. i proceeded to panic. i knew nothing about boats, let alone basic engines nor how they worked. And the first boat we have is a nautique?!?!

this post is to say: we fucking did it

the last 6 months of learning haven't been easy. foremost, when we acquired the boat, I was assuming that the FIL (who is a 30+ year boater) would teach me the ropes of all things boating: how to back up a trailer, how to launch, how to trailer, how to maintain the engine, etc.
great guy... but looking back, I was given a lot of bad help. And eventually I decided to just "do learn it myself."
i.e. he informed me he didn't know how to back up a trailer in my passenger seat after I asked him to "show me how its done" after arriving home with it the first day.. taught us to unhook the winch/safety prior to backing down the ramp... power loaded the ski boat & almost sent it into our truck bed... and many more things i laugh about to myself now
so i started nodding along to advice, taking it with a grain of salt, and then went and read online/manuals/videos of all things.
the last 6 months I have done the following all by myself:
  • winterized the engine (then de-winterized)
  • winterize/stabilized the fuel tank
  • changed the oil & oil filter
  • fixed the deathly low transmission fluid the previous owner forgot existed
  • replaced the impeller
  • fixed speedometers
  • fixed fuel sending unit (fuel gauge)
  • fixed exhaust hose
  • added trailer spare tire
  • learned how to hook up hose as water supply to start it in the driveway
THEN, I learned how to drive and back a trailer up. Not just straight, but back it 90degs into our driveway & garage without needing to move my other car out of the garage. ALL BY MY SELF. (0 help as noted above hahaha)
THEN, wife and I learned how to launch a boat THE RIGHT WAY (see above lol) and my wife became an expert at trailering it WITHOUT power driving it through the bed of the truck.
today we successfully took the boat out for the first time this spring and did it all ourselves.
the drive there, the launch of the boat, and the smoooooth gliding of her maneuvering it back onto the trailer with ease and care. Everything went perfect, after 6-months of... not so perfect things, frustration, me making mistakes, and a little bad advice.

Here she is - next up: learning how to clean the hull.

2024.05.17 05:54 StrikingLetterhead13 STI Oil Capacity?

I got an oil change ~200 miles ago by my own mechanic (of whom I trust). Gave him the 5L jug of Motul, and told him to put 4.5 quarts then check. After he was done, only about 0.2 quarts were left in the jug. He told me it took 5.1 quarts (including filling the filter)to get it to full on the dipstick. I thought the manual called for 4.5 quarts on the sti? The dipstick reads over full, but he swore it was just at the fill line when he finished. Is 5.1 quarts with the filter out of the ordinary?

2024.05.17 04:54 boredlurkerjr Hey Dad, I need some advice about my car

So, my car is around 76,000 kms now, what should I do for normal maintenance? ( I bought it brand new in 2018)
I just had an oil change. And I know at around 80,000 I should have my coolant replaced. And my air filter was replaced the last oil change.
But, should I be putting little bottles of fuel cleaner in my gas tank or engine cleaner in the oil tank?
Should I get my fuel filter checked??
I just hate going to the mechanic sometimes because, as a woman, they sometimes try to sell me things I don’t need.
Thanks in advance 😀

2024.05.17 04:51 Historical-Abroad-63 Rough idle and fluctuating oil gauge pressure

My 02 sierra5 5.3 has a rough idle, as well as my pressure gauge going bezerk sometimes. It starts right up, idles at about 500 rpm, accelerates great (actually accidentally did a little burnout at a stoplight in the rain before lol). What could this be? It needs an oil change soon, maybe it just needs a better filter? What could this be? Sidenote: Other than a bad water pump, its need of a new master cylinder, and this issue, I like this truck, its super solid

2024.05.17 02:28 Financial-Ad-6679 2009 Nissan Sentra Acceleration Issue

Hi all, my girlfriend’s 2009 Nissan Sentra with 145k miles is having issues when accelerating and I would like some advice. I have basic mechanical knowledge and any tools I may need, but am having a hard time diagnosing the root of the problem. After long drives (around an hour) her car will drop in rpm’s to around 2k and will not accelerate any higher than that. She also tells me that it will occasionally stall when she stops at lights. It is a cvt transmission. Usually it will return to normal after a small cooldown period. Most recently it would not accelerate at all even when she is at full throttle. I have very recently done an oil change, transmission refresh, engine filter and spark plug change, as well as monitored all her fluids. There is a very small leak from the oil pan gasket but nothing concerning. I also scanned the car and the only code that has come up is the catalyst performing below threshold, which was looked at by a certified technician and was told it was nothing concerning but to get it fixed whenever we had the time and money. When the problems first came up we took it to a different shop and they told her “not to drive it as much.” Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.17 02:10 malpss N55 at Minimum Oil Level after topping off the day before

Hello everyone, I am making this post to see if anyone can help me track down an issue I am having with my 2014 F10 535i xDrive.
Roughly two or three days ago, I received the minimum oil level warning in my car and I added about half a quart of leftover oil that I had from the oil change that I did 3,500 miles ago. Quite literally the next day afterwards, I got the same warning again.
I am already aware that my oil pan gasket is leaking, and my oil filter housing gasket is seeping but neither of these seem severe enough to be causing this kind of issue, unless it was some sort of electronic glitch? I would appreciate some feedback trying to figure out what's going on with my car.
There are no active codes that I've seen with my MHD adapter and I also don't have any kind of burning smells while driving.
I've been told its a possibility that it is my turbo return line or turbo feed line.

2024.05.17 01:26 cocogate To install ones own motorcycle tires, from suffering to agony to... being cheap enough to consider doing it again.

Just to make it clear, i am cheap and i wanted to profit off of doing my own tires on my project bike. Its a teeny 125cc honda CBR 125R that i fixed up. Learnt the whole maintenance thing on it before i did the tasks on my big bike. Oil, air filter, brake lights, brakes, valves, ... and now tires.
Bought tire spoons for 18€ and putting on the tires would take 20€ each. Doing one set and suffering would yield unlimited returns forever!
Cue removing the front tire and suffering the consequences of not thinking ahead leading to me waggling the cbr to its storage space on its rear wheel almost pulling something in my back trying to keep it upright. Did not buy a front paddock so its resting on its forks on some boxes like the ratty project it is.
Got the tire off easily enough, in about half an hour with 3 tire spoons and some good force i managed to get the tire on BUT I WARPED THE DAMN THREAD TO THE FOURTH DIMENSION. I'm not the strongest but i got some muscle and boy did i use it. Must've messed up the 'put your knees down on the other side' cause i muscled that spoon over the rim with the intensity of an action movie shot just before the problem gets solved. Tire obviously wouldn't hold air.
Contemplated life for a while, ordered a new one and figured id put on the old tire (15yo) as a form of practice. If that went well id give the rear tire a shot, if not ill eat the costs and lament. Got me a bucket of soapy water and focused on putting my weight on one side while spooning the other side AND THE THING NEAR FLEW ONTO THAT RIM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did not have to apply all that much power, just some leverages, steadily bit by bit and making sure i sat my stupid ass on the other side of the damn rubber.
Had some issues getting it to inflate, got a tip from the local subreddit discord to bounce the tire and lo and behold after my 20yo compressor got up to pressure for the third time i got a pop and a second or 3 later a second pop. Tire beaded and inflated. As it laid on the 60€ tire that i destroyed literally within half the hour of being delivered i couldnt even be happy. Spending 60€ to put on a tire almost old enough to ride the bike its put on.
Mind you i was doing the whole process in my bathroom due to the soapy water and at this point it was a mess.
As that one went well i went ahead and took the rear off the bike in the garage downstairs. Somehow i put the stand that held up the bike by its axle nuts far enough away that by the time i got the rear wheel loose i stood there, supporting the bike's tail on my shoulder, hunched over without anything to put under the bike. Managed to get it leaning against the wall for long enough to put the stand under and up i went, back to my bathroom.
Suffered a good while to get the bead to break as the bead breaking machine i'd borrowed and wanted to use for the tougher rear tire HAD A SUPPORTING ROD TOO THICK FOR THE DAMN WHEEL. So back to using spoons to pop that bead and getting off the tire and putting it back on. Double and triple checked whether i put it on right, spent 15 soapy minutes to get the rear on TO FIND OUT ID STILL PUT IT ON BACKWARDS. Getting the beads to pop went well though before i noticed. Improvement!
At this point id spent a good 4 hours struggling with these tires, the mental meltdown of breaking a tire and the struggle of breaking the bead and i took a breather. Figured id take this as a lesson learnt and just pay for the damn tire installation + balancing.
Having regained my calm i took off the tire, being mindful to not tear it off the rim like the frustrated mini-hulk i felt i was ONLY TO PUT ON THE DAMN REAR tire in 5 MAGNIFICENTLY SWIFT MINUTES and figuring out how to bounce the tire well enough that the double pop came near the same instant i put the pressured air compressor to the valve. What a beautiful sound.
Now i have 3-5 days to clean up the bike and wait for the front wheel and probably forget the tricks of how to put the damn rubber on and i'm oddly enthusiastic about putting it on so swiftly making my brain think we're still saving money in the future. Not sure whether i want to put on the tires on my big bike but we'll see...
And here i am, typing it as a form of free therapy, hope someone enjoyed the read.
TLDR: stupid monkey puts on motorcycle tires only to spend 4h+ on getting it 'right' and breaking one of them. Soapy water is magic and putting the tire to warm on a radiator makes the thing malleable like clay almost. Combine that with correctly utilizing the technique of pressing down the other side of the tire with your bodyweight or something else and the whole process went smoother than my brains are.
