On April 25, 2024, Bogdan Syrotiuk, the 25-year-old leader of the Young Guard of Bolshevik-Leninists (the YGBL), a socialist-Trotskyist organization active in Ukraine, Russia and throughout the former USSR, was arrested by the notorious state security service of the fascistic Zelensky regime, the SBU. Bogdan is being held in atrocious conditions in a high security prison in the city of Nikolaev (Mykolaiv), which is located in southern Ukraine.
The International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), the world Trotskyist movement with which the YGBL is politically affiliated, has finally obtained the actual documents in which the SBU presents its charges against Bogdan Syrotiuk. These documents, which form the basis of his detention, make absolutely clear that Bogdan is the victim of a monstrous state frame-up. The allegations concocted by the SBU are a crude combination of lies, obvious fabrications, and political absurdities.
Moreover, the documents submitted by the SBU are directed not only against Bogdan. They are nothing less than a declaration of war against all left-wing and socialist opposition to the Zelensky regime and, specifically, the International Committee of the Fourth International and its public organ, the World Socialist Web Site.
The central allegation leveled against Bogdan Syrotiuk is that he is guilty of high treason. The basis of this charge is that Bogdan has been for the past two years “engaged in the preparation of publications commissioned by representatives of a Russian propaganda and information agency, the World Socialist Web Site” [emphasis added.]

True to its fascist character, the Ukrainian regime is operating on the basis of the well-known precept of Hitler and his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels: “The bigger the lie, the more readily it will be believed.”
In this particular case, the Zelensky regime seems to believe that the scale of the SBU lies are of such a magnitude that they will simply overwhelm the thinking public. It thus expects that public opinion will accept that the Putin regime is directing the work of the WSWS, which the SBU indictment describes as
It attempts to evade the contradiction by simply lying. The indictment claims that Bogdan’s activities, “acting on the instructions of a representative of the World Socialist Web Site,” consisted of “supporting and justifying the conduct of the Russian aggressive war on the territory of Ukraine…”
Every word is a lie. The opposition of the ICFI, its affiliated organizations, and the WSWS to the Russian invasion, in line with its hostility to the Putin regime, is a political fact that is documented in hundreds of articles that have been posted since the first day of the invasion.
On February 24, 2022, the day of the Russian invasion, the ICFI posted a statement on the WSWS titled: “Oppose the Putin government’s invasion of Ukraine and US-NATO warmongering! For the unity of Russian and Ukrainian workers!” It began:
The ICFI called “for an immediate end to the war,” and explained: “In opposing the invasion of Ukraine, we denounce the policies of US/NATO imperialism, whose claims to be defending democracy and human rights are blood-drenched with hypocrisy.”
This political declaration elaborated the principles and policy that have guided the work of the ICFI and WSWS since the war began.
On February 26, 2022 the International Committee held an international webinar, in which its opposition to the war was emphatically advanced. Among the speakers, in addition to myself, were Nick Beams, a longtime leader of the International Committee’s Australian section, Johannes Stern, a leader of the ICFI in Germany, Thomas Scripps, a leading member of the ICFI’s section in Britain, Joseph Kishore, the national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party in the United States, and Evan Blake, another leading member of the SEP (US).
The ICFI has never wavered from the principled opposition to the policies of NATO and Russia that it advanced in the first days of the war.
The relationship between the ICFI and the comrades of the YGBL coincided almost exactly with the outbreak of the war. They were attracted to the ICFI precisely because of its opposition to both the war and the national chauvinism of the Russian and Ukrainian regimes.
The SBU indictment charges that the World Socialist Web Site assigned to Bogdan “the task of preparing, writing, editing and publishing … both on the WSWS website and other communist-oriented media, articles, publications, comments, etc. aimed at spreading pro-Russian narratives related to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, to which [Bogdan Syrotiuk] gave his voluntary consent.”
In support of this claim, the SBU references a YGBL statement titled, “For the organization of an international movement of workers and young people against war!” It claims that this document, posted on the World Socialist Web Site on October 12, 2022, includes “fragments, statements, sentences and phrases… which contain justification of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, which began in 2014…”
The actual document clearly exposes this claim to be a lie. There is not a single sentence in the YGBL declaration that indicates support for the invasion of Ukraine. The SBU cites selectively from the document, including passages only from numbered paragraphs 4, 7, 8, 10 and 13. Paragraphs 4 through 8—the SBU interrupts the continuity of the YGBL’s analysis by leaving out paragraphs 5 and 6—provide a concise Marxist explanation of the objective capitalist crisis and political aims that underlay the instigation of the war by the United States and its NATO allies. They state:
Moreover, and most decisive, the Ukrainian regime does not present a scintilla of evidence to substantiate its absurd and lying claim that the World Socialist Web Site is a “Russian propaganda and information agency.” With this filthy slander, the Zelensky regime betrays—notwithstanding the ongoing war with Russia—the lingering influence of Stalinism’s rabid hatred of Trotskyism. As in Russia, the transfer of power in Ukraine from Stalinist bureaucrats to capitalist oligarchs has not required any change in the methodology of the political police. The same techniques of fabrication and slander, utilized by the Stalinist regime against Trotskyists in the era of the Moscow Trials and the terror of 1936-39, remain operative in Kiev.
Bogdan Syrotiuk stands accused of treason and faces the threat of a life-long prison term that is the equivalent of a death sentence. But the allegations against Bogdan are based entirely on articles and speeches he has posted on the World Socialist Web Site, in which he has declared his opposition, as a socialist internationalist, to the capitalist regimes of Zelensky and Putin and the ongoing war that has cost hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian and Russian lives.
The SBU indicts Bogdan for advancing in his speeches and writings posted on the World Socialist Web Site “which are accessible to everyone in the world, including citizens of Ukraine” information that exposes the reactionary character of the Ukrainian regime and the war.
The SBU declares that Bogdan’s “criminal actions were stopped only with the intervention of a law enforcement agency.” What a devastating self-exposure of the claims that the US-NATO proxy war is being waged to defend democracy in Ukraine.
The reality is that Ukraine is a fascistic dictatorship, which applies police methods to stop the expression of popular opposition to the policies that have brought untold suffering and death to the people.
The arrest of Bogdan Syrotiuk comes precisely at a point of mounting popular opposition to the Zelensky regime. On May 18, a new and vastly unpopular mobilization law that will vastly expand the recruitment dragnet of Ukrainian military goes into effect. Even the New York Times has expressed doubts about Zelensky’s ability “to find new troops to relieve a weary, often demoralized force.”
In an article posted on the World Socialist Web Site on April 30, Maxim Goldarb, a Ukrainian socialist who has been persecuted by the Zelensky regime, reported: “More and more Ukrainian men are desperately trying to flee the country, unwilling to die for someone else’s selfish purposes.”
He added:
The significance of the fight to defend Bogdan and secure his freedom extends beyond Ukraine. His incarceration is yet another example of the growing international assault on democratic rights as imperialism escalates its military operations throughout the world. The political conspiracy to destroy Julian Assange set into motion a process that is replicated throughout the world.
Those who oppose and expose the crimes of the imperialist regimes are targeted for persecution by the state. The assault on basic democratic rights—first and foremost, freedom of thought and speech—is always justified on the basis of lies.
The opponents of Israel’s genocidal war against Gazans are denounced as anti-Semites, even when the protesters are Jewish. In the denunciation of Bogdan Syrotiuk as an agent of Russia for opposing the proxy war in Ukraine, the same lying method is at work.
The real reason for the arrest and persecution of Bogdan Syrotiuk is that he is fighting for the unity of the Ukrainian, Russian and international working class against the ruling capitalist elites of all countries. As Comrade Andrei Ritsky of the Russian branch of the Young Guard of Bolshevik Leninists explained so eloquently in a speech delivered at the May Day 2024 celebration held by the International Committee:

uses the so-called “left-wing” propagandists and their information platforms (websites, media and social platforms) to discredit the support of Ukraine by international partners, justify Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, accusing Western countries of creating conditions under which Russia was forced to launch the so-called special military operation, fomenting wars in Ukraine by providing it with weapons, etc. As a result, they are used by Russia to systematically convey pro-Kremlin narratives to the population of Ukraine and Ukraine’s allied countries…The ICFI’s opposition to the US-NATO war in Ukraine is an essential element of its political program, deeply rooted in the socialist and internationalist principles of the Trotskyist movement. The attempt of the Ukrainian regime to portray this opposition as an instrument of Putin’s propaganda network is as viciously mendacious as it is politically absurd. The intransigent opposition of the International Committee of the Fourth International to the Putin regime—which emerged as a consequence of the Stalinist bureaucracy’s final betrayal of socialism and the restoration of capitalism in the former USSR—is a fundamental political fact that is substantiated not only in written texts numbering in the hundreds, but also in the exhaustively documented activity of the Trotskyist movement spanning decades.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the World Socialist Web Site “WSWS” has regularly published articles in various languages aimed at discrediting Ukraine and representatives of governments around the world for assisting Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor state.
True to its fascist character, the Ukrainian regime is operating on the basis of the well-known precept of Hitler and his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels: “The bigger the lie, the more readily it will be believed.”
In this particular case, the Zelensky regime seems to believe that the scale of the SBU lies are of such a magnitude that they will simply overwhelm the thinking public. an online publication of the world Trotskyist movement, the International Committee of the Fourth International and its affiliated sections in the Socialist Equality Parties around the world, which covers the main socio-political problems around the world from the position of revolutionary opposition to the capitalist market system, with the aim of establishing world socialism through socialist revolution.At no point does the SBU attempt to explain the contradiction that wrecks its case against Bogdan, i.e., that the political principles that he upholds as a socialist and internationalist opponent of wars waged by the capitalist ruling class are irreconcilably hostile to the policies of the Putin regime, including its invasion of Ukraine.

What is required is not a return to the pre-1917 foreign policy of tsarism, but, rather, a revival, in Russia and throughout the world, of the socialist internationalism that inspired the October Revolution of 1917 and led to the creation of the Soviet Union as a workers state. The invasion of Ukraine, whatever the justifications given by the Putin regime, will serve only to divide the Russian and Ukrainian working class and, moreover, serve the interests of US and European imperialism.
In the two major statements that he has made during the past week, Putin has justified his actions by enumerating the provocations and crimes of the United States. There is, no question, much that is factually true in his denunciation of Washington’s hypocrisy. But the viciously anti-communist and xenophobic ideology that he invokes and the interests that he claims to be defending are thoroughly reactionary and incapable of appealing to the broad mass of the working class in Russia, let alone in Ukraine and throughout the world. A substantial section of the working class in Russia and Ukraine will be repelled by the cynicism of Putin’s glorification of the heroic struggle waged by the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany in World War II while denouncing the October Revolution and the existence of the USSR as a multi-national state.

Significantly, the SBU leaves out paragraph 9 of the YGBL declaration, which presents a scathing indictment of the Putin regime. That paragraph reads:
- The new world order that the United States wants to establish looks like this very possible picture: Russia and China are to be subordinated to imperialism and divided, if that is necessary to maintain direct control over their natural, industrial-technological and human resources.
- The European imperialist powers support the United States for their own place in the new redivision of the world. At the same time, European imperialism, while placed on rations by the United States, sees a way out of its economic and geopolitical predicament only in a redivision of the world in which it can regain its former greatness.
- Japan, South Korea and Australia support the US only as much as it suits their interests in the struggle against China in the Pacific region. These countries will support the US as long as it allows them to compete with China. The process of dividing spheres of influence will revive the contradictions between the Pacific capitalist powers, which are as much in limbo as Europe.
- The crisis of 2008 revived class struggles around the world. The Arab Spring of the early 2010s is vivid evidence of this revival. It forced US and European imperialism to take more decisive measures. In 2014, they supported a coup d'état in Ukraine. Through this coup, the US was able to create all the conditions to build a bridgehead in a future war against Russia.
- The Covid-19 pandemic that erupted in 2020 exacerbated the contradictions of capitalism and was the trigger for a more rapid expansion of US imperialism in preparation for war against Russia and China. The US embarked on a more provocative path of abandoning the “one-China” policy, and increasing its support for Ukraine, as expressed in the NATO summit in August 2021, which supported Zelensky’s “Crimean platform.”
The reactionary regime of Vladimir Putin emerged from the treacherous dissolution of the Soviet Union by the Stalinist bureaucracy and the restoration of capitalism. The policies of Putin, in the final analysis, are aimed at safeguarding the wealth of the post-Soviet oligarchy against the pressure of Western imperialism from above and, even more critically, against the movement of the Russian working class from below.The SBU does cite paragraph 10, which continues the critique of the Putin regime, stating:
Within this geopolitical and social context, Putin’s adventurist invasion of Ukraine on February 24 was the Russian oligarchy’s response to NATO’s relentless expansion to the east. The Putin regime’s main objective was to achieve through the pressure of its “Special Operation” a new round of talks with the US-NATO, since the last round ended up crossing “red lines” on the part of the US-NATO, which caused Putin’s invasion [emphasis added].The characterization of Putin’s invasion as “adventurist” is in no way compatible with what the SBU claims to be a “pro-Russian narrative.” Obviously recognizing the fragility of its attempt to portray the YGBL statement as pro-Putin propaganda, the SBU decided against further citations from the document, leaving out the YGBL’s development of its denunciation of Putin’s policies in paragraphs 11 and 12, which assert:
The SBU also chose not to cite paragraph 17 of the YGBL statement, which declares:
- The Russian bourgeoisie’s desire for an “equal partnership” with the West was one of the most utopian delusions. This delusion, historically derived from Stalin’s policy of “Popular Fronts” and then “peaceful coexistence,” developed among the fledgling class of Russian capitalists in the 1990s.
- The Putin regime has not gotten rid of this utopian delusion. Its whole policy has been to maneuver and seek compromise with the West, with whom the Russian oligarchy wanted to be “on equal footing.” Except that Western imperialism, with its conquering ambitions for Russia, did not care about these conciliatory tones of Putin’s regime.
The course of the war after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine increasingly emphasizes the reactionary nature of this invasion. While claiming to be fighting for the independence of the Russian people from the threat of Western imperialism, Putin is in fact only defending the independence of the Russian oligarchy to exploit the Russian working class and the country’s raw material wealth.Paragraph 18, which is also left uncited, further demolishes the SBU’s indictment of Bogdan, the YGBL and the WSWS as instruments of Russian propaganda. The paragraph asserts that
the Putin regime has no way out of the current crisis for Russian society. It will not have such a way out in the future. All of the military and political activities of the Putin regime will only contribute to the escalation of Western imperialism and the deterioration of conditions for the Russian, Ukrainian and international working class.The SBU also failed to cite paragraphs 19 and 20, which presciently warned of the catastrophe to which the war could lead.
The SBU specifically cites this document as proof of Bogdan Syrotiuk’s treasonable activity. But the text of this document conclusively refutes the charge that Bogdan and the YGBL are advancing a pro-Putin narrative.
- The prospects for the present war, when thought within the framework of the capitalist system, are very bleak. First, this war will take on a long-term character and will not only be fought between Ukraine and Russia. It is the first step in inflaming the world situation to the point that the threat of a third world war is simply inevitable. All countries of the world will take part in the future war.
- Secondly, the nature of the war will be determined by the policies of the ruling classes, which now stand on a blatantly anti-human position. The ruling classes are recklessly moving toward the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict, thereby creating the real possibility of a nuclear Armageddon. The specter of planetary destruction arises from the insane policies of imperialist and capitalist governments. The recklessness of the ruling capitalist elite compels young people to ask whether they will be allowed any future at all.

I feel ashamed that I cannot consider myself a diligent practitioner, yet Guan Yin Bodhisattva has never given up on me. Through this experience, I silently resolve to devoutly recite Buddhist scriptures, cultivate my mind, and never regress, aiming to transcend the cycle of rebirth and return to the side of Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
In 2022, I made a vow for my husband, committing to recite 7 Little Houses every month for his karmic creditors, praying for Guan Yin Bodhisattva's blessings to help him resolve his karmic obstacles and ensure smooth work. The compassionate Bodhisattva granted Her blessings, and my husband's business began to improve. A few days ago, while working at the construction site, the ground had some gaps, and one leg of the pump truck sank in. The truck tilted significantly, but miraculously, both my husband and the truck emerged unharmed. I believe this is undoubtedly the result of Guan Yin Bodhisattva's compassionate protection, just as Master Lu teaches that one person practicing Buddhism in a family can protect the entire household.
Previously, my job was demanding, leaving me with little time for reciting Buddhist scriptures, which troubled me deeply. After much contemplation and prayer to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for assistance in finding a less demanding job that would allow time for recitation, my prayers were answered. Soon after resigning, I found a job that not only paid better than my previous one but also afforded me the time to recite scriptures. Moreover, it was conveniently located close to my home. My heart brimmed with Dharma joy. Under the compassionate protection of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, there are countless blessings and miracles beyond description.
I hope that my sharing can awaken those who do not believe in Buddhism to accept the Dharma and pick up Buddhist scriptures to learn and recite them. I hope to awaken those fellow practitioners who do not persist in reciting scriptures. Diligence is the foundation of Buddhist practice, and it is through the Buddha's guidance that sentient beings can be liberated. We must not allow ourselves to become beings without affinity with Buddha due to laziness. If we gradually drift away and move further from the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, we may lose the chance to turn back. To truly give meaning to our lives, we must embark on the journey to transcend the cycle of life and death. The human existence is rare to obtain, and the opportunity to encounter Dharma teachings is extremely rare. Life is impermanent so we must always practice diligence.
The Five Golden Buddhist Practices of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door can indeed solve practical problems in life and change our destiny!

我希望我的分享能够唤醒在佛门外不信佛的人们早日得闻佛法，捧起经书学佛念经。希望唤醒不坚持念经的师兄们。精进是学佛的根，佛度有缘人。千万不要因为惰性而让自己成为无缘众生。倘若渐行渐远，渐渐离开了佛菩萨，也许就没有机会再回头了。要让自己的生命真正有价值，那就是修道了生脱死。人身难得，佛法难闻，人生无常，所以要常行精进。心灵法门的五大法宝真的能够解决生活中的实际问题，能够改变我们的命运！

I feel ashamed that I cannot consider myself a diligent practitioner, yet Guan Yin Bodhisattva has never given up on me. Through this experience, I silently resolve to devoutly recite Buddhist scriptures, cultivate my mind, and never regress, aiming to transcend the cycle of rebirth and return to the side of Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
In 2022, I made a vow for my husband, committing to recite 7 Little Houses every month for his karmic creditors, praying for Guan Yin Bodhisattva's blessings to help him resolve his karmic obstacles and ensure smooth work. The compassionate Bodhisattva granted Her blessings, and my husband's business began to improve. A few days ago, while working at the construction site, the ground had some gaps, and one leg of the pump truck sank in. The truck tilted significantly, but miraculously, both my husband and the truck emerged unharmed. I believe this is undoubtedly the result of Guan Yin Bodhisattva's compassionate protection, just as Master Lu teaches that one person practicing Buddhism in a family can protect the entire household.
Previously, my job was demanding, leaving me with little time for reciting Buddhist scriptures, which troubled me deeply. After much contemplation and prayer to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for assistance in finding a less demanding job that would allow time for recitation, my prayers were answered. Soon after resigning, I found a job that not only paid better than my previous one but also afforded me the time to recite scriptures. Moreover, it was conveniently located close to my home. My heart brimmed with Dharma joy. Under the compassionate protection of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, there are countless blessings and miracles beyond description.
I hope that my sharing can awaken those who do not believe in Buddhism to accept the Dharma and pick up Buddhist scriptures to learn and recite them. I hope to awaken those fellow practitioners who do not persist in reciting scriptures. Diligence is the foundation of Buddhist practice, and it is through the Buddha's guidance that sentient beings can be liberated. We must not allow ourselves to become beings without affinity with Buddha due to laziness. If we gradually drift away and move further from the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, we may lose the chance to turn back. To truly give meaning to our lives, we must embark on the journey to transcend the cycle of life and death. The human existence is rare to obtain, and the opportunity to encounter Dharma teachings is extremely rare. Life is impermanent so we must always practice diligence.
The Five Golden Buddhist Practices of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door can indeed solve practical problems in life and change our destiny!

后来听师兄说要念经文组合，超度自己堕胎的婴灵。因为堕胎的孩子走不掉很苦的，婴灵不只会使大人身体不好或事业不顺，家庭不和睦，也会找你的孩子让她身体不健康，不听话。我听后向菩萨许愿帮助两个堕胎的孩子各念49张经文组合，许愿时没有许完成时间，但我有努力地在行愿。
心灵法门太神奇了，太灵验了。我帮助堕胎的孩子念小房子没多久就梦到别人怀孕了；还有一次梦到和一个小孩儿玩得很高兴，突然他就不见了。
当我完成了我所有许的愿后，女儿的病情在2021年有所好转。之后，我就一直帮助女儿21张一拨接着一拨地念经文组合。有时间我就去放生。2022年，我许愿帮助女儿放生1200条鱼。

I know the reddit API doesn't have an endpoint for Chat, however I was wondering if there were alternative methods that could potentially allow for functionality like this? For instance I found a library that looks somewhat promising here (however, I am still quite a beginner when it comes to coding so I can't quite interpret this text)...

Before I came in for work today, Suzanne texted me that Andrew was recovering well, just as expected, and I mentally breathed a sigh of relief. I hadn’t slept well, bothered by nightmares that disappeared from my memory but left stress in their wake.
It turned out the animal that had been stolen was a small humanoid creature, something we would label as a cryptid, Suzanne told me. It had claws but wasn’t that strong, and actually she described its appearance as ‘spindly with a large head’, and if the robbers had the right tools for the job, it would have been easy to bind and steal it. My heart went out to the animal, wondering where it had gone, who’d bought it, and where it would be kept. I hadn’t even had the opportunity to see it, but I felt the loss, an endangered animal stolen by someone who cared only for its monetary value.
Then Suzanne told me that Andrew would be recuperating for a week, and informed me of the exciting fact that I’d be getting my first tour group in just a few days. I’ve been studying the animals to get more familiar with them, even the ones I hadn’t seen yet. She had indeed gotten me those glasses that were magically spelled or whatnot and I’d memorized facts along with enclosure numbers, so it seemed I was good to go.
Some fun news today is that Yui’s ginormous ping pong ball arrived, and once I assembled it, it turned out to be just as advertised, which means it’s almost as tall as I am. Needing to be assembled from a bunch of curved pieces wasn’t surprising and it wasn’t difficult to do so. Everything slid into place easily; there were twelve pieces that were held together by screws, some of which I attached while sitting inside it, then a ninth piece to cover the last gap. I had to do it outside the office, obviously, since it wouldn’t have fit through the door. Leila came over to watch, standing a dozen yards away and looking at what I was doing, her expression one of bemusement and interest.
Once I was done, I rolled it gradually forward down the path toward enclosure seven. The material it had been constructed from was almost as lightweight as a ping-pong ball, which made its weight surprising considering its size. Aside from notches here and there for a person to grip to move it, the ball was smooth, which would make it easy for Yui to roll it around. The key to this toy was that it wasn’t easily grabbable, so it would be a challenge to maneuver.
“Knock, knock,” I spoke, bringing the ball to a stop. “Special delivery.”
When I arrived, I considered the fence for a moment before grasping two handholds and pushing the ball slightly against the fence, using that to hoist it up and over. The ball bounced a bit as it landed on the other side and I smiled. “All right. Hope you like your new toy,” I murmured. At that, I took a lap around the zoo, since it was about that time, then headed back toward the security room.
On my way there, though, I slowed to a stop when I saw a man taking the little bag out of a garbage bin that hung from a tree and tying it shut, replacing it with a new one. Suzanne had told me that I’d have company and who to expect, and here he was. There were several bins in the zoo, situated along the typical path guests took, about the size of one you’d put in a small bathroom. It didn’t look that full, but they never really were since they weren’t used often. I guess this one had accumulated a few items.
“Hi,” I said, drawing his attention. “You must be John.”
“And you must be Ripley,” he said, holding out a hand for me, glancing up to meet my gaze only briefly. His handshake was polite but meek. “Pleasure to meet you.”
I would’ve said John’s accent was British also, but it sounded different. Thicker. Honestly, when it comes to the accents on that large collection of islands off the coast of Europe, I can’t say I’m an expert. They all sound the same to my uneducated ears. The man was short and had curly gray hair that tapered at his ears, and looked like his white skin had wrinkled from lots of time in the sun, though it wasn’t that tan.
There was something about him that was a little unsettling, the way he slouched, as if he wanted to turn invisible. Even his clothes seemed drab and shabby, though not quite reaching the rating of being threadbare. He wore an old t-shirt with the Arkansas Razorbacks logo, a pair of blue jeans, worn at the pockets, knees, and bottoms, and light brown sneakers darkened from wear and tear.
Picking up a broom he’d left leaning against the tree, he motioned toward the front of the zoo. “I’ll get back to work now,” he said.
“Doing what?” I asked curiously. There wasn’t much to be done, since zoos usually only needed maintenance because of patrons, and we had very few of those.
“Path needs sweeping,” he called over his shoulder, quickly heading off.
I stared after him and let out a breath. “Not a people person, I guess. Well, I can empathize.”
Back at the security room, I took a seat and pulled up the camera for Yui’s enclosure, sitting up straight and smiling, delighted to see that she’d discovered the ball. The giant tarantula was leaning back and using her front two legs to investigate the texture and weight of it. Then she pushed at it, rolling it across the grass. Obviously, I’m not fluent in tarantula body language, but from the fact that she kept playing with it for the next few minutes, I concluded that she liked it.
I grinned and clapped my hands like an excited child, bouncing once in my chair. It probably seems silly, but enrichment was going so well and it really made me happy. Animals deserve to be able to live wild and free naturally, but short of that, I wanted to be able to give them some fun.
The next lap around the zoo had me stopping at enclosure eight, that green lion creature, where the occupant was lounging across a wide boulder. I checked that her eyes were opened and that I wasn’t waking her before calling, “Thank you for telling me about Andrew.”
The animal lifted her head and got up, slowly descending to the ground. “You’re welcome.”
The animal leaned back to stretch her front legs just like a common housecat, and then leaned forward to stretch the back legs before she shook out her mane and turned to me. “I would like some books.”
My eyebrows went up. “Books? To read?”
“No. Not like you read them. I want to be near them. I’ve seen you giving things to the other animals. Can I have a bookshelf full of books?”
I felt the urge to laugh, but I quashed it. It seemed outlandish, but it must have had something to do with its psychic-ish abilities, so it made sense in a strange sort of way.
“Of course,” I replied. “Can I put the shelf out here on the path, or does it need to be inside your enclosure?”
She lowered herself to the ground, splaying out. “Out there is fine.”
“I’ll cover it with plastic so it doesn’t get wet from rain. Do you know how to read?” I questioned.
“No. It’s too hard,” she said. “But I don’t need to. Having to read a book to learn what it says would take a long time anyway.”
I pursed my lips and nodded my agreement. It was hard to argue with that. And it certainly would’ve been a lot easier for me while I’d been attending college classes. On that note, I wondered if putting a flash drive full of a library’s worth of books at the edge of the animal’s enclosure would do the same trick? I was immediately tempted to try, especially considering it would be much easier than buying, assembling, and water-proofing a bookshelf.
Back at the office, grabbing my purse from the table, I sat down in my chair and fished around inside until I found a flash drive. Then I pulled up archive.org on my computer’s monitor, searching for fiction books. After I’d downloaded a few dozen, I ejected the drive and headed back out to Sun’s enclosure.
She hadn’t moved from where she’d been when I left. “Hello,” she said, her tail whipping in curiosity like a cat’s would.
“Hello again. I have a new device here,” I said, putting the flash drive on the ground just short of the fence. “It has books on it. Can you read them?”
Sitting up a little straighter, Sun blinked languidly and paused for a moment before saying, “Yes, I can.”

Going back to enclosure eight, I found Sun laying on her back, in that long, upside-down pose cats were fond of. “I have more books for you,” I said with a smile.
“Yes?” She turned over. “I’ve only read one of the books so far from that little thing.”
I blinked and looked down at the flash drive on the ground, picking it up. “You already read one?” I exclaimed. I shouldn’t have been surprised, really. This was learning by osmosis, not actually reading the books.
“I did.”
“Well then it’s a good thing I’ve come with so many more,” I said, putting the other drive in the plastic bag with the new one. I left it on the ground where it had been and stood, my hands on my hips. “I’m taking over for Andrew for a tour. Is there anything you think I should know?”
“There are many things you should know, but you will learn them in time,” she replied.
Apparently when it comes to advice, sometimes Sun is just about as good as a horoscope.

Before I came in for work today, Suzanne texted me that Andrew was recovering well, just as expected, and I mentally breathed a sigh of relief. I hadn’t slept well, bothered by nightmares that disappeared from my memory but left stress in their wake.
It turned out the animal that had been stolen was a small humanoid creature, something we would label as a cryptid, Suzanne told me. It had claws but wasn’t that strong, and actually she described its appearance as ‘spindly with a large head’, and if the robbers had the right tools for the job, it would have been easy to bind and steal it. My heart went out to the animal, wondering where it had gone, who’d bought it, and where it would be kept. I hadn’t even had the opportunity to see it, but I felt the loss, an endangered animal stolen by someone who cared only for its monetary value.
Then Suzanne told me that Andrew would be recuperating for a week, and informed me of the exciting fact that I’d be getting my first tour group in just a few days. I’ve been studying the animals to get more familiar with them, even the ones I hadn’t seen yet. She had indeed gotten me those glasses that were magically spelled or whatnot and I’d memorized facts along with enclosure numbers, so it seemed I was good to go.
Some fun news today is that Yui’s ginormous ping pong ball arrived, and once I assembled it, it turned out to be just as advertised, which means it’s almost as tall as I am. Needing to be assembled from a bunch of curved pieces wasn’t surprising and it wasn’t difficult to do so. Everything slid into place easily; there were twelve pieces that were held together by screws, some of which I attached while sitting inside it, then a ninth piece to cover the last gap. I had to do it outside the office, obviously, since it wouldn’t have fit through the door. Leila came over to watch, standing a dozen yards away and looking at what I was doing, her expression one of bemusement and interest.
Once I was done, I rolled it gradually forward down the path toward enclosure seven. The material it had been constructed from was almost as lightweight as a ping-pong ball, which made its weight surprising considering its size. Aside from notches here and there for a person to grip to move it, the ball was smooth, which would make it easy for Yui to roll it around. The key to this toy was that it wasn’t easily grabbable, so it would be a challenge to maneuver.
“Knock, knock,” I spoke, bringing the ball to a stop. “Special delivery.”
When I arrived, I considered the fence for a moment before grasping two handholds and pushing the ball slightly against the fence, using that to hoist it up and over. The ball bounced a bit as it landed on the other side and I smiled. “All right. Hope you like your new toy,” I murmured. At that, I took a lap around the zoo, since it was about that time, then headed back toward the security room.
On my way there, though, I slowed to a stop when I saw a man taking the little bag out of a garbage bin that hung from a tree and tying it shut, replacing it with a new one. Suzanne had told me that I’d have company and who to expect, and here he was. There were several bins in the zoo, situated along the typical path guests took, about the size of one you’d put in a small bathroom. It didn’t look that full, but they never really were since they weren’t used often. I guess this one had accumulated a few items.
“Hi,” I said, drawing his attention. “You must be John.”
“And you must be Ripley,” he said, holding out a hand for me, glancing up to meet my gaze only briefly. His handshake was polite but meek. “Pleasure to meet you.”
I would’ve said John’s accent was British also, but it sounded different. Thicker. Honestly, when it comes to the accents on that large collection of islands off the coast of Europe, I can’t say I’m an expert. They all sound the same to my uneducated ears. The man was short and had curly gray hair that tapered at his ears, and looked like his white skin had wrinkled from lots of time in the sun, though it wasn’t that tan.
There was something about him that was a little unsettling, the way he slouched, as if he wanted to turn invisible. Even his clothes seemed drab and shabby, though not quite reaching the rating of being threadbare. He wore an old t-shirt with the Arkansas Razorbacks logo, a pair of blue jeans, worn at the pockets, knees, and bottoms, and light brown sneakers darkened from wear and tear.
Picking up a broom he’d left leaning against the tree, he motioned toward the front of the zoo. “I’ll get back to work now,” he said.
“Doing what?” I asked curiously. There wasn’t much to be done, since zoos usually only needed maintenance because of patrons, and we had very few of those.
“Path needs sweeping,” he called over his shoulder, quickly heading off.
I stared after him and let out a breath. “Not a people person, I guess. Well, I can empathize.”
Back at the security room, I took a seat and pulled up the camera for Yui’s enclosure, sitting up straight and smiling, delighted to see that she’d discovered the ball. The giant tarantula was leaning back and using her front two legs to investigate the texture and weight of it. Then she pushed at it, rolling it across the grass. Obviously, I’m not fluent in tarantula body language, but from the fact that she kept playing with it for the next few minutes, I concluded that she liked it.
I grinned and clapped my hands like an excited child, bouncing once in my chair. It probably seems silly, but enrichment was going so well and it really made me happy. Animals deserve to be able to live wild and free naturally, but short of that, I wanted to be able to give them some fun.
The next lap around the zoo had me stopping at enclosure eight, that green lion creature, where the occupant was lounging across a wide boulder. I checked that her eyes were opened and that I wasn’t waking her before calling, “Thank you for telling me about Andrew.”
The animal lifted her head and got up, slowly descending to the ground. “You’re welcome.”
The animal leaned back to stretch her front legs just like a common housecat, and then leaned forward to stretch the back legs before she shook out her mane and turned to me. “I would like some books.”
My eyebrows went up. “Books? To read?”
“No. Not like you read them. I want to be near them. I’ve seen you giving things to the other animals. Can I have a bookshelf full of books?”
I felt the urge to laugh, but I quashed it. It seemed outlandish, but it must have had something to do with its psychic-ish abilities, so it made sense in a strange sort of way.
“Of course,” I replied. “Can I put the shelf out here on the path, or does it need to be inside your enclosure?”
She lowered herself to the ground, splaying out. “Out there is fine.”
“I’ll cover it with plastic so it doesn’t get wet from rain. Do you know how to read?” I questioned.
“No. It’s too hard,” she said. “But I don’t need to. Having to read a book to learn what it says would take a long time anyway.”
I pursed my lips and nodded my agreement. It was hard to argue with that. And it certainly would’ve been a lot easier for me while I’d been attending college classes. On that note, I wondered if putting a flash drive full of a library’s worth of books at the edge of the animal’s enclosure would do the same trick? I was immediately tempted to try, especially considering it would be much easier than buying, assembling, and water-proofing a bookshelf.
Back at the office, grabbing my purse from the table, I sat down in my chair and fished around inside until I found a flash drive. Then I pulled up archive.org on my computer’s monitor, searching for fiction books. After I’d downloaded a few dozen, I ejected the drive and headed back out to Sun’s enclosure.
She hadn’t moved from where she’d been when I left. “Hello,” she said, her tail whipping in curiosity like a cat’s would.
“Hello again. I have a new device here,” I said, putting the flash drive on the ground just short of the fence. “It has books on it. Can you read them?”
Sitting up a little straighter, Sun blinked languidly and paused for a moment before saying, “Yes, I can.”
I bounced a little bit again in delight. “Awesome. That’s awesome.”
“Is that a book?”
“Oh, no, it’s just got books inside it,” I said.
Sun slowly got to her feet and wandered over, and my muscles tensed as my brain urged me to take a few steps backwards the closer she got. Despite the warding and the fact that she wasn’t looking hungry, my instincts were still determined to protect me from her. “That looks too small to have books inside it.”
“Oh, ah…it’s…complicated,” I said. “But humans found out how to store data on things like this. It’s great that this is just like a bookshelf for you, because I can get so many things for you to read.”
“I’d like that very much.”
“Is there anything specific you like to read? Fiction or nonfiction? Specific genres?”

I had a debate, as I often get sucked into lately, and I thought I would share. Give me your thoughts and enjoy (I'm D BTW):
D - Darwin argued that the eye could have evolved through natural selection in his work "On the Origin of Species."This quote often gets taken out of context, as it's followed by a detailed explanation of how such complexity could indeed evolve through gradual steps.
J - Humans did not evolve from apes. To believe we did is a materialist delusion. The end.
D - We will accept your claim when you bring forth the fruit of your research, also there's a Nobel Prize waiting for you, go claim it. The end.

As to your first question: I can only say that if you have ever been presented with information as a matter of fact, no matter how many people are saying it is true, yet you feel somewhere inside that it is not, and then you are proven correct at some time in the future, that’s what it feels like. Essentially, if you have this happen over and over again over many years with more mundane and materialist topics, your discernment in spiritual matters becomes much sharper. Evolution is a spiritual matter.

Your assumptions prevented you from digging further, as you believed the ...apparent truth, therefore you missed out on the opportunity to change is life by giving them adequate support. So I would like to know, how is spirituality predictive...and having some examples of instances where spiritual science demonstrated the origin and forces behind natural mechanisms.
J - Spiritual science is predictive in that by understanding it, you understand the nature of Earth’s development and that it is a series of recapitulations of prior epochs. Understand the prior epochs of Earth, and the future becomes “predictive.” As to your second request……what do you mean by “demonstrates.” There is no demonstration that would meet the “burden” of scientific proof because it transcends scientific proof.

[TLDR: I'm afraid of MIL+partner, and have to choose between attending important event at my own(!) indie art gallery (the same place they previously threw a tantrum at me with people present, which they didn't acknowledge or apologize for) where they plan to be attending, and risk hurting myself..., or do I stay away & keep myself out of this threatening situation, which means hurting people I care for? Both might endanger the work I built and love, but not sure which is more likely]
Let me first of all get my imposter dysphoria out of the way: I self diagnosed ADHD at 32 and now, at 36, finally moving past the gatekeeping trolls of classical autism. Despite (clueless) people laughing at me for wondering whether I might be autistic: Sorry not sorry I'm calling AuDHD. This. Explains. Everything. But I guess my masking skills are on Olympic qualification level.
So I'm still in a deep dive of information gathering, listing everything and making sense of who I actually am, and being so relieved and sad after all these years of not understanding what's wrong with me. So amazing to experience these developments in psychology and social sciences, and the more nuanced views on AuDHD, all made possible through world wide conversation and sharing between marginalised people. A revolution of sorts!
I'm still in some sort of identity crisis and very much traumatized by the millions of hours of therapy I struggled though, trying to work on my depression and personality... Always thinking I'm doing something wrong. So much work. Fun times.
Anyway: now you know where I am: part of the reason I didn't find out sooner, is because I've been living with an amazing & autistic husband for about 17 years: he didn't really know either, so we both thought a lot of Autistic things were super normal haha. My family; yup, same. His family; even deeper in the spectrum-soup. All this didn't become clear until this year, me being the last piece of the puzzle, so to speak. Me; being the extraverted, chronically ill, artistic, tired, depressed, funny, queer, unorganized people pleaser trying to keep everyone together and falling apart. Them: ...
Let me tell you, it's a long story. I'll try and keep it as short as possible.
My husband (M35) and I (NB36) have always been living and moving around in the same art scene, in the same big city as MIL (F63) and her wife (F51) of 12 years. (MIL's wife has never been a mother figure to either of us, they only got together a couple of years after husband and me met. My relationship with her has always been complicated and fragile, but it all went really south when her then-girlfriend moved in with her. I'll save you the joke, but it was quick.)
They're a smart and impressive but explosive couple, always arguing and losing friends and making enemies all around town. They don't seem to notice. Meanwhile they have been projecting all their insecurities and rejection sensitive dysphoria on me, trying to become more close like a proper cool artsy clan, with frequent outbursts of anger, despair, taking offense with things I didn't see coming. Never thinking for a moment about their part in all this, or how they push her son and me away with all the drama and fighting, with a reconciliation of sorts every 2 years, usually in the shape of me sort of apologising or letting things that hurt me slide, to keep the peace. They are not open to feedback or positive criticism; the few times I stood up for myself, asking for the fat shaming or harsh critique of my art to stop, they cried and got angry about being accused of something, and me limiting their free speech as well. Every time I've told them about my low self esteem, depression and struggles with pain and low energy, and every time they see me they say: oh you really look better now, so nice that you're a bit more healthy. Loving and well meaning, I'm sure. But very invalidating, and I try saying tactfully that I have my ups and downs, unfortunately. They have told my husband I'm always defensive. (Well, now I guess I must come across that way, even though to me that seemed unlikely. That's AuDHD for ya!)
Last three appointments I was about 10 minutes- half an hour late (let them know by message but they didn't see the last time) due to severe panic attacks, and they got angry I'm always late, saying it must be because I don't like them, and started screaming and crying right there in the restaurant. When I tried to save the situation by confessing I get anxious about what to wear, not wanting to look fat (which is hard because I am, and even when I wasn't, MIL always made clear she thought I was), and also being afraid about them getting angry. (Irony.) Well that didn't work, shocks, they have been saying I hate them and don't want to be with them (!) and gloriously fulfilled their own prophecy.
To top it all off, they came to our small indie gallery a couple of weeks ago, they started almost immediately crying (MIL) and hissing at me, seemingly out of nowhere (although they told my husband I hurt them by shoving in their faces about how we loved my family more...)
I guess they referred to: me telling them I had to leave, talking enthusiasticly about the trip we were taking to meet my niece for her 16th birthday, and how we had trouble taking time off from work, but my niece really wasn't doing well mentally so my cousin was grateful we could be there, planning the party around our work schedule! You know, me putting on a mask by being all bubbly and agreeable... Honestly forgetting about their RSD! (I understand why, now)
So that's when they started crying and cursing at me right there and then, in the middle of our small art gallery, surrounded by two horrified visitors, one artist and our new employee. I froze, think I said something along the lines of: " this is not something to discuss here" and ran to the storage room, sobbing in some paper towels and feeling like trash. The artist came after me, consoling me and saying that was weird as duck. When I came out, they had left. My husband immediately after I told him sent them a text: "please don't treat my wife like that. We'll talk later, I can't now." That felt good.
Didn't hear from them until after our weekend away, when my husband told me they invited themselves over to celebrate his birthday that weekend and he couldn't really help it. That sucked. I didn't dare calling (so much anxiety) so wrote them an email carefully wording how I was still shaking from our encounter, and how I was sad about our clashing, saying we should meet up and talk about it when we were all ready to do so; but for this birthday celebration, I wouldn't be able to be present without talking about what happened honestly, and would hate for my husbands birthday to be weighed down by that. I suggested to make myself scarce and leave them be, and asked them to name a date and place to talk it all through. Before you ask: I was careful not to include angry or passive-aggressive remarks, I even asked a friend to check for that specifically. (Had to edit a bit haha) I did this for my husband to not ruin his relationship with his mother, and because I feel sad for her. Even though I felt like betraying my self worth a bit, and had to really censure myself. But hey, I'm used to that!
On the one hand; with my -since then- discovered AuDHD, I must admit I am probably less good at reading and interpreting and projecting certain social cues or body language. On the other hand: keep in mind everyone in this story is definitely (undiagnosed) autistic.
It has been exhausting and frankly I'm ready to throw in the towel and bow out of social gatherings. I love my MIL but I'm tired of her, and I'm actually afraid of what her wife is capable of, she can become very angry, not only with me, actually there's always someone she will rant about quite intensely. Actually, my husband and them decided that would be for the best, when I wasn't there, last week.
And now for the twist: there's an opening in our gallery this afternoon (EU), and the girls are coming... Or so they told my husband anyway. It's an important local artist and they really care about being at these events. I want to go. I'm tired but wouldn't want to miss it. The artist is quite a good friend of mine and to top it off, I'm an auntie to her children, who I haven't seen in a while and would be very disappointed if I weren't there. Also: it's MY ducking gallery, MY exhibition, MY friend and her amazing kids who would be so disappointed and possibly hurt... Also also I feel like a jerk leaving all the work to my husband+employee. This is our biggest opening yet!
I can't imagine not going.
To be fair: my husband has offered to ask them not to come, but added that it would make things more difficult between them. He says I could always go for a stroll and avoid them. But I have been anxious for weeks now about them being capable of attacking me in broad daylight, and now it's not just two customers and my friend, but possibly the complete metropolitan art scene.
What do I do? Take the risk? Accept the exhaustion and humiliation and possibly having to recover for days? (Did I mention I have two more gallery days ahead of me, only just having found out how much it takes out of me to be there?) Please help me make a sensible decision, my people! I know there's no one perfect solution for everything (do I?) but it feels like a pivotal moment...

Hello everyone! I am Buddhist practitioner Li. Today, with immense gratitude, I share with you my Buddhist experience. The topic is: The severe 30-year anemia completely recovered via Buddhism
In 2016, I started practicing Buddhism when the opportunity arose. In 2017, I invited Guan Yin Bodhisattva into my home. After setting up the Buddhist altar, I frequently witnessed the rolls of incense ash and the blooming of lotus flowers on oil lamps. These strengthened my confidence in practicing Buddhism and reciting Buddhist scriptures, and every day was filled with joy from the Dharma!
In 2018, at the age of 49, my master enlightened me I entered the age of my 369 predestined calamity. From my recollections, I specifically followed Master Lu's guidance and made vows to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, reciting 49 Little Houses to help my karmic creditors.
One afternoon, while crossing the street, I had two large bags in my hands and decided to set them down on the ground for a moment to rest my hands before picking them up again. As I looked up, I saw a car speeding towards me, and I was terrified, unsure of how to avoid it. In that moment of emergency, I shouted, "Bodhisattva bless me," and accelerated to run across the street. The car didn't slow down at all and whooshed past me from behind. When I turned my head, I was shocked—it was such a close call! It nearly hit me. I am grateful for the compassionate blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, which allowed me to safely pass through the calamity at the age of 49.
I have been suffering from anemia since giving birth, nearly 30 years ago. Before I started practicing Buddhism, I had tried various blood tonics, but none of them worked. Normally, whenever I took blood tonic medicine, my hemoglobin levels would rise slightly, but if I didn't take the medicine, I would feel drowsy and lethargic every day.
In 2020, I knelt before the Buddhist altar and made vows to abstain from killing and adopt a fully vegetarian diet, praying for the blessings of the Bodhisattvas to maintain my health and help eliminate karmic obstacles. I persisted in reciting sets of 21 and 69 Little Houses in cycles, and over the years, I have recited a few thousands sheets. I also made vows to recite 108 Little Houses to eliminate karmic obstacles related to my eyesight, release 1200 fish, adhere to reading and reciting the Buddhism in Plain Terms, distribute Dharma materials as opportunities arose, promote vegetarianism, conduct monthly animal liberation, propagate Dharma in online groups, and offer free Dharma Gems to new practitioners, among other practices.
On December 5, 2023, I went to the hospital for a routine blood test, and the results came back normal! My hemoglobin level, which used to be 80-90, was now 145, within the reference range of 110-150. The doctor said that my levels had improved and that I could stop taking medication.
Grateful for the compassionate blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, being vegetarian and reciting scriptures can indeed remove karma and help repay karmic debts! Being vegetarian and reciting scriptures have restored my health indicators to normal, which is truly beyond my expectations! Gratitude to the compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva for always answering prayers, blessing me with health, and rescuing me from the sea of suffering.
Previously, I also suffered from recurrent mouth ulcers, which would take 15 to 20 days to heal each time they occurred. The pain from the ulcers would unsettle my mind and seriously affect my daily life. Now, the mouth ulcers have also healed without my noticing!
The Buddha's teachings are truly magnificent. The countless miraculous occurrences that have happened to me and my family fully prove the authenticity of the Dharma. I will definitely persevere, diligently propagate the Dharma, recite scriptures to eliminate karma, strengthen my faith, respect my master, uphold the path with diligence, and never regress!

Hello everyone! I am Buddhist practitioner Li. Today, with immense gratitude, I share with you my Buddhist experience. The topic is: The severe 30-year anemia completely recovered via Buddhism
In 2016, I started practicing Buddhism when the opportunity arose. In 2017, I invited Guan Yin Bodhisattva into my home. After setting up the Buddhist altar, I frequently witnessed the rolls of incense ash and the blooming of lotus flowers on oil lamps. These strengthened my confidence in practicing Buddhism and reciting Buddhist scriptures, and every day was filled with joy from the Dharma!
In 2018, at the age of 49, my master enlightened me I entered the age of my 369 predestined calamity. From my recollections, I specifically followed Master Lu's guidance and made vows to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, reciting 49 Little Houses to help my karmic creditors.
One afternoon, while crossing the street, I had two large bags in my hands and decided to set them down on the ground for a moment to rest my hands before picking them up again. As I looked up, I saw a car speeding towards me, and I was terrified, unsure of how to avoid it. In that moment of emergency, I shouted, "Bodhisattva bless me," and accelerated to run across the street. The car didn't slow down at all and whooshed past me from behind. When I turned my head, I was shocked—it was such a close call! It nearly hit me. I am grateful for the compassionate blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, which allowed me to safely pass through the calamity at the age of 49.
I have been suffering from anemia since giving birth, nearly 30 years ago. Before I started practicing Buddhism, I had tried various blood tonics, but none of them worked. Normally, whenever I took blood tonic medicine, my hemoglobin levels would rise slightly, but if I didn't take the medicine, I would feel drowsy and lethargic every day.
In 2020, I knelt before the Buddhist altar and made vows to abstain from killing and adopt a fully vegetarian diet, praying for the blessings of the Bodhisattvas to maintain my health and help eliminate karmic obstacles. I persisted in reciting sets of 21 and 69 Little Houses in cycles, and over the years, I have recited a few thousands sheets. I also made vows to recite 108 Little Houses to eliminate karmic obstacles related to my eyesight, release 1200 fish, adhere to reading and reciting the Buddhism in Plain Terms, distribute Dharma materials as opportunities arose, promote vegetarianism, conduct monthly animal liberation, propagate Dharma in online groups, and offer free Dharma Gems to new practitioners, among other practices.
On December 5, 2023, I went to the hospital for a routine blood test, and the results came back normal! My hemoglobin level, which used to be 80-90, was now 145, within the reference range of 110-150. The doctor said that my levels had improved and that I could stop taking medication.
Grateful for the compassionate blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, being vegetarian and reciting scriptures can indeed remove karma and help repay karmic debts! Being vegetarian and reciting scriptures have restored my health indicators to normal, which is truly beyond my expectations! Gratitude to the compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva for always answering prayers, blessing me with health, and rescuing me from the sea of suffering.
Previously, I also suffered from recurrent mouth ulcers, which would take 15 to 20 days to heal each time they occurred. The pain from the ulcers would unsettle my mind and seriously affect my daily life. Now, the mouth ulcers have also healed without my noticing!
The Buddha's teachings are truly magnificent. The countless miraculous occurrences that have happened to me and my family fully prove the authenticity of the Dharma. I will definitely persevere, diligently propagate the Dharma, recite scriptures to eliminate karma, strengthen my faith, respect my master, uphold the path with diligence, and never regress!

Hi, sorry for the long post-- I am disabled from a chronic illness and I was curious about texts which critique the doctopatient relationship and the patient/hospital relationship. When I became ill, I was seriously shocked by the level of paternalism allowed towards patients-- I have a distinct memory of feeling way too hot in a hospital, asking if I could leave my bed to go outside for a moment, and not being allowed to get up from my bed-- it felt like the first time I had really experienced genuine unfreedom. I have found from my time in emergency rooms and various clinics that doctors also tend to be extremely dismissive of chronically ill patients, telling me my symptoms are psychiatric, or that they'll go away on their own, or that I just need to drink more water. Many of the testing methods are also clearly not designed from the standpoint of patients: many tests for chronic illnesses try to use certain stimuli to bring out symptoms in patients-- but from a patient perspective, these texts basically feel like being tortured. I had one test where my blood pressure spiked to 150/100 and I was convulsing, and I was still bureaucratically denied treatment for not meeting one part of the purely quantitative diagnostic criteria. A lot of the texts on the experience of chronically ill people in regards to the health system feel overly reformist. My experience has been extremely radicalizing-- I do not want the same health system in a socialist economy, or some neoliberal scheme to "improve health outcomes"-- I think I seriously believe at this point that our current health system needs to be completely dismantled and replaced by something liberatory. But I have no idea what that might be, or what it would look like. Are there any texts which deal with this, with patient liberation and the abolition of hospitals as such?

A lot of the texts on the experience of chronically ill people in regards to the health system feel overly reformist. My experience has been extremely radicalizing-- I do not want the same health system in a socialist economy, or some neoliberal scheme to "improve health outcomes"-- I think I seriously believe at this point that our current health system needs to be completely dismantled and replaced by something liberatory. But I have no idea what that might be, or what it would look like. Are there any texts which deal with this, with patient liberation and the abolition of hospitals as such?

Bames often makes a video about something he usually has surface level experience on it, enough to "hate" on it, for the sake of making an episode of light hearted critique. That may be very well for most people, but one of my favorite parts of this sub is that there are a lot of experts here. If you don't know enough about something and you hate on it, there's always someone here who does know a lot about it and will make a huge wall of text thread about said subject which is a joy to read, and educational.
It doesn't even have to be an expert, just someone who has a fair grasp on the subject at hand.

I have had an idea of an Ironman restricted in some form of way by the Collection Log for a few months and I really want to get into it now that I have more free time. Of course, an account with this restriction has been done in various forms. The most common I have seen is one log at a time ie locked to Brimhaven Agility Area until the log is "greened". This usually has some sort of point system attached and/or chunks involved. Zayzed and Tedious have a series with this example I believe.
Concept
The idea I am currently trying to cook up is hopefully unique enough for it to be unfamiliar territory that has been nevebarely touched. I apologize if this has been attempted before and I didn't credit the right person but I believe I would be the first (or among the first) to do this documented. The general premise is that I want to "go through the game" (more on that later) while strictly only using items found in the collection log. According to the wiki: "There are currently a total of 1,706 slots to fill in the collection log, with a total of 1,521 unique entries being tracked. Pets, gilded equipment, and 3rd age equipment account for 126 of the 161 slots containing duplicate items.".
Some Guidelines/Rules
Collection Log items that are "secondary items" (Blood shard) to a non-Collection Log item (Amulet of fury) are allowed to be combined and use the final product (Amulet of blood fury). However, since the base item (Amulet of fury) is not a collection log slot, I am unable to use it unless I pair it with, in this case, a Blood shard. This concept goes for ornament kits as well as other items that fall in that category.
Somewhat related to above: Sticking with the Amulet of fury example, you can probably make the argument that while the Amulet of fury itself is not a Collection Log slot, the Uncut onyx (Skotizo, Zalcano, Zulrah, Gem bag) and Onyx (Tekton) are Collection Log items. Therefore, I should be able to make and use the Amulet of fury in the first place if I obtain an Uncut/cut Onyx. Thoughts?
"Okay well you need much more than just an Onyx to make an Amulet of fury. Where are you going to get the amulet mould? Gold bar? Ball of wool? Runes to enchant onyx jewelry? Those are not Collection Log spots." Correct. One idea I had that I have not fully looked into but I find promising is this: Some sort of Collection Log related prerequisite unlocks certain "common" items for me. The specific condition I had in mind is once I obtain a pet (or maybe not that extreme, just any unique item perhaps?) from a certain boss/activity, lets take General Graardor for example, I can utilize the common drops within the area. How big of an area will this be? In the General Graardor example, would it just be him and his three bodyguards? All NPCs in the Bandos section of GWD? Just the Bandos-affiliated NPCs in GWD or across the world map?
Mode Type?
The account will be an Ironman, no doubt. But what type? Regular, Hardcore, or Ultimate? Group Ironman is out of the question. I really love the Ultimate Ironman game rules but what good is a Collection Log only account when you can't store everything from the log? I understand many of those slots can be stored in the PoH or various other locations, but it would be a bit lame if I filled a slot, no matter how pointless it is, and be forced to ditch it when a huge point of the account is to collect. It also makes the game more difficult which, as psychopathic as this may sound, I like the idea of. I have not taken a look at what can and can't be stored in PoHs and other areas (STASH, Looting Bag) but perhaps this could have some potential workaround.
So Hardcore? I mean I have played the game mode before so it wont be anything new but I did really enjoy it. However losing the status to something like a disconnect (on my end or Jagex's end) would be soul crushing. It would not be the first time it happened to me. Regardless, I would be forced to go to the wilderness and fill slots there so it is almost a guarantee that death is inevitable on the account. Is it even worth it knowing that it is not an "if" but "when" will it come to an end? I do not mind Wilderness content, in fact I enjoy it, but is this too risky to even attempt? It at least gives me an official "stopping point" or I can continue as a grey helm so there's that.
Regular Ironman? It's the most boring option of the three but it checks the other boxes the other two fail to do.
The End
With the loose ideas that I have written down, I am excited to make an account and get started. However, I am a very goal-oriented type of person when it comes to these kinds of things as it keeps my motivation high while progressing on the account knowing that I am always inching closer to some end goal. Speaking of, what is the end goal of this account? I don't know. That is another question I would like to be answered. The obvious answer is to fill all the collection log slots and call it there. However, just by taking a simple glance through the Collection Log would make anyone realize how near-impossible that is. I forgot the exact math but it would take literal decades to complete the entire Collection Log. This is mostly due to mega rares such as Third age items.
So now what? Do I just say "fill the log except for mega rares. Maybe aim for one or two of them." That is still an extremely vague and daunting goal. I want something a bit more specific. The idea of "Complete the Inferno" or some high level content comes to mind but then you realize that when you do that type of content you are already basically only using Collection Log only items (Look at BiS gear for Inferno for example). At that point it would be much more about the journey, not the destination. Which is not the worst thing in the world but I prefer something more, if that makes sense.
I apologize for the wall of text. Any and all critique, modifications, etc. to the idea of the account are welcome :). Also, what would be a good name for it?

I have uploaded gameplay from my fresh experience with the game here if you want to see how it looks / plays. My first impressions are shared below:
Based on my limited time with it, I recommend playing Dead Hook on PSVR2, but you should read further to decide if this will be right for you.
It is a roguelite FPS that has the feel of a game like Doom Eternal or Unreal Tournament, and for VR comfort concerns, you should know it is at its best when you are making use of the main gameplay mechanic of the grapple hooks to fling you around the battle arena rooms that have high verticality.
The game has much better story / exposition than typical roguelite where you play as Adam Stone that has some kind of personal relationship with disembodied Grace who wants to return to being corporeal again and is generally suggestive (3:20) & affectionate (21:04) towards Adam referencing their past relationship. Your (Adam's) character got damaged (including vocal-cords, so not voiced) due to malfunction while traveling through space to planet Resaract on the quest to get Mythical Stone of Immortality that will help Grace become corporeal (0:57), so there is a third voiced character in game named Raven who is an AI companion that represents the ship and provides guidance / training and part of the overall storytelling along with Grace.
The gameplay mechanics covered in tutorial (3:20) involve dual wielding variety of possible shooting weapons, EXO suit powers like Flames, Freeze and Gust that can be shot from arms (think Iron Man), use of the Dead Hook to fling yourself around with either hand (think Batman grapple more than Spider-Man web swing), melee combat using fists or even grabbing and tearing weakened enemies apart, special power of dual swords that can do massive damage, and ability to extend chainsaw blade (Ripper) that can be used to rip enemies apart (think Doom Eternal). You kickstart the chainsaw by putting string in your right-hand from your other hand to rev the motor. The game also lets you run rapidly in whatever direction you are moving with Left Control stick by moving your hands physically in running motion. You are also able to grab onto surfaces to vault yourself up and over.
As a roguelite, between runs, you can spend time on the ship check out target practice using available weapons (Earth & Ancient) or buffs (22:09), available bounties to complete on runs that will give you extra rewards (22:53), applying permanent upgrades to your EXO suit at the crafting station (23:07) and bestiary database (24:46) that lets you learn more or select opponents for target practice.
During each run (25:55), you move from procedurally generated arena rooms to next room always moving forward. Between each such room, you often have a choice of which door to choose next with some information given about what to expect in next room. Whenever you clear a room you will get weapon or buff options before proceeding to next room. You can also reach safe rooms (36:08) that won't have any enemies and instead allow you to bank / use money before proceeding. The goal is to keep proceeding as far as you can and the exposition through Grace / Raven will continue both during gameplay and after you complete / start new runs (including failures).
The game is made on Unity Engine but before Gaze Foveated Rendering became available option for developers for PSVR2. That said, the graphics of this game are generally crisp and clear except for text displays that can be blurry until you get closer. Interesting the gameplay capture recording shows all HUD elements in stable positions and relatively clear while in-headset these elements move around and not as clear (too small / far). The performance of the game is rock solid, possibly 90-120 fps. While I recognize that Gaze Foveated Rendering could possibly make the game sharper and ensure no text is blurry even at distance, I really don't have any significant critique for how the game looks because of how fast moving and good it looks in motion while not inducing any VR discomfort for me despite the wild movement.
The sound in the game has strange moments where the volume either increases (1:44 & 13:30) or decreases when the settings for that haven't been modified, but fortunately the game provides settings for Audio that helps you adjust it more to your liking. I don't know if the increases are from creative choices or technical glitches, but once I adjusted them to levels that suit me more, it became more stable.
The game is making use of resistive triggers and controller haptic feedback is also being used in variety of scenarios but perhaps not 100% of the use-cases where I think it should (or maybe the strength of the haptics in some scenarios aren't prominent enough). It is not using headset haptics when you are taking damage which I think is the biggest area of possible improvement as the red-light visual indicator that displays on left / right side of your display isn't a strong indicator of taking damage as I think headset haptics could provide.
The game does not provide many options for VR comfort, but defaults to Snap Turns which can be changed to Smooth Turns with 4 different turn speed options. It does not provide any option for teleport or vignette / tunneling / blinders.
The game features Platinum and any trophies that expect count of x have progression. Good emphasis on skill / challenge trophies where many will unlock through natural play and nothing that looks like would be frustrating / luck based.
This game is fun, but if you can't handle the VR speed / verticality or presence of some blurry text that isn't essential to read, it might not be for you.

Warning: this is a very petty post, revolving but not fixated on the release of Ubisoft's new Assassin's Creed game. If you have a life, stop reading.
Ubisoft, a western video game studio, has launched its advertising campaign for its new game set in Japan. If you are familiar with the Assassin's Creed series, you are aware that Ubisoft shits one of these out every three to four years, much to their awaiting fans glee.
Controversy however has been stirred up over not only the usual and predictable matter (the liberal fetishization of a character's skin colour) but by inevitably the same group of people who take this news about as well as Praljak took his cyanide.
This post is not about the rift betwen these two sides, which are if anything two halves to the same mass-produced industrial sized circle, but the lack of an inbetween in the leftist commentary. More specifically, how people who see themselves as socialists will deliberately bat down the most orthodox of Marxist critiques because they see in this movement, to portray fictional characters with different racial stereotypes, as a value of the progressive nature of capitalism.
To anybody who has any knowledge, even second hand, of the various critiques that are made, the argument is simple: Yes, Capitalism produces an impetus for the revolution of its industrial base and subsequently, in the process, liquidates the existent order (all that is solid melts into air), but the reality is that this progress is about as socially revolutionary as genocide.
(The Indian continent was swept under the boot of the British colonial system, ending if not totally then the domination of the feudal structrue that had prevailed there).
If you want a contemporary comparison, it is about as socially progressive as the Israelis bulldozing hospitals within which they've mass-executed Palestinians to build allotments.
But over the course of arguing, this comparison is not so neat. 'Socialists' will even forgo recognising that the very system which produces this gabrage, these endless stream of commodities, is one which shackles the globe to wage slavery.
They will posit, even in spite of this, in spite of the fact that they know full well what they are essentially doing is eating shit, that these trends, over the change of the mere content of these commodities, are a good thing. They are fastened, even in their resistance, to the system. The overlap then becomes clear, what these individuals essentialy stand in support for is nothing akin to the demands that the socialists were making a hundred years ago.
They would have it that the clock simply be turned back to the model of the socially democratic welfarist state which prevailed 60 or 70 years ago, whilst retaining what is about is revolutionary as a brand change in the commercial logic of production.
Argue with them, and you will eventually draw the point out: either they have understood the Marxist critique, or they have not. This adoption of socialist principles by these individuals online has become one in which an individual chooses the brand of their identity. The system of Marxist thought has been burried to history, and what stands atop it is something akin to Disneyland.
As a final note, I ended up two days ago arguing with someone, a 'socialist', who began to defend the pride movement on the basis that it was, again, socially progressive.
Them: "But Castro himself endorsed the pride movement in Nicaraguan media!"
Me: "Ah yes, Castro, notoriously the enemy of the CIA, who have come out even more triumphantly to endorse the pride movement"
Them: "You just wish to post pictures of Raytheon pride floats to engage in homophobia!"

Ubisoft, a western video game studio, has launched its advertising campaign for its new game set in Japan. If you are familiar with the Assassin's Creed series, you are aware that Ubisoft shits one of these out every three to four years, much to their awaiting fans glee.
Controversy however has been stirred up over not only the usual and predictable matter (the liberal fetishization of a character's skin colour) but by inevitably the same group of people who take this news about as well as Praljak took his cyanide.
This post is not about the rift betwen these two sides, which are if anything two halves to the same mass-produced industrial sized circle, but the lack of an inbetween in the leftist commentary. More specifically, how people who see themselves as socialists will deliberately bat down the most orthodox of Marxist critiques because they see in this movement, to portray fictional characters with different racial stereotypes, as a value of the progressive nature of capitalism.
To anybody who has any knowledge, even second hand, of the various critiques that are made, the argument is simple: Yes, Capitalism produces an impetus for the revolution of its industrial base and subsequently, in the process, liquidates the existent order (all that is solid melts into air), but the reality is that this progress is about as socially revolutionary as genocide.
(The Indian continent was swept under the boot of the British colonial system, ending if not totally then the domination of the feudal structrue that had prevailed there).
If you want a contemporary comparison, it is about as socially progressive as the Israelis bulldozing hospitals within which they've mass-executed Palestinians to build allotments.
But over the course of arguing, this comparison is not so neat. 'Socialists' will even forgo recognising that the very system which produces this gabrage, these endless stream of commodities, is one which shackles the globe to wage slavery.
They will posit, even in spite of this, in spite of the fact that they know full well what they are essentially doing is eating shit, that these trends, over the change of the mere content of these commodities, are a good thing. They are fastened, even in their resistance, to the system. The overlap then becomes clear, what these individuals essentialy stand in support for is nothing akin to the demands that the socialists were making a hundred years ago.
They would have it that the clock simply be turned back to the model of the socially democratic welfarist state which prevailed 60 or 70 years ago, whilst retaining what is about is revolutionary as a brand change in the commercial logic of production.
Argue with them, and you will eventually draw the point out: either they have understood the Marxist critique, or they have not. This adoption of socialist principles by these individuals online has become one in which an individual chooses the brand of their identity. The system of Marxist thought has been burried to history, and what stands atop it is something akin to Disneyland.
As a final note, I ended up two days ago arguing with someone, a 'socialist', who began to defend the pride movement on the basis that it was, again, socially progressive.
Them: "But Castro himself endorsed the pride movement in Nicaraguan media!"
Me: "Ah yes, Castro, notoriously the enemy of the CIA, who have come out even more triumphantly to endorse the pride movement"
Them: "You just wish to post pictures of Raytheon pride floats to engage in homophobia!"

This is part 2 of a series that I have done on the relevance that Old Testament social principles have to our times. In the first part I looked at the OT's critique of lesser of two evils politics. In this one I will be looking at the Old Testament understanding of the relationship between social justice and intersectionality. Intersectionality was a term popularised in the late 80s and 90s by scholar and activist Kimberlee Crenshaw. In her analysis she says the following:
1)The justice precepts of the OT:
It's the same thing in Nathan's parable at a different angle. If we see the see the gendered limits of hospitality in the Concubine episode, we see it's class limits in this parable. The rich man is willing to show hospitality to a wayfarer. And he does it at the expense of the man who is poor. His hospitality is built on economic exploitation. Now the twist is that Nathan is telling this Parable both as an irony and to expose King David's hypocrisy. Because David did an injustice to Uriah the Hittite. He had him murdered to take his wife. And Uriah because he is a "Hittite" is a stranger, a foreigner. Murder is the most inhospitable act you can do to a stranger. Nathan breaks us out of a single axis analysis of things by making the point that the same norms that allow a rich man to exploit the poor are the same ones that allow a King to murder an outsider to take his wife. And as the Prophet Ezekiel points out, which ties back to the story of the concubine, the same people with power that shed innocent blood and oppress and extort the poor are also the ones who normalise and perpetuate a culture of sexual violence. These are definitely relevant for our times because the Old Testament's ethical framework breaks us out of a single axis view of social justice to view things in a multidimensional perspective. We have to look at the lives of migrants and refugees from a multidimensional perspective. We have to look at the experiences of black and indigenous communities from a multidimensional perspective when in these communities women have to endure the multiple burdens of racial violence coupled with patriarchal and sexual violence. We cannot speak of an identity politic that does not look at class oppression and violence. All of these intersect. All of these are multidimensional. And in that multidimensional reality Jeremiah's voice rings as true back then as today. Stand up for the poor, the orphan, the widow and the oppressed who has been robbed. And shed no innocent blood in this place.

Hey there! I am planning to write a little paper on Mills "On Liberty" and was thinking about a topic regarding freedom of kids. In Mills text kids seem to not be able to attain any freedom at all, until they reach an arbitrary age of adulthood where they then suddenly gain all the freedom. This does not resonate with me and my understanding of the world at all and so I wanna write a little critique about it. Does anybody know if someone has written something about that already or if there are any philosophical positions from anyone who actively stands for the freedom of younger folk? I'm thankful for any suggestion!
