2016.10.20 18:41 RedditBeginAgain Stump Grinding Advice
I have about 50 stumps to get rid of. Most of them should be pretty easy, but some of them are on hillsides so might be hard to get some kinds of equipment to.
My options would seem to include:
- Hire a tree service who do various things including stump grinding and are probably good at what they do.
- Hire a one man operation from facebook/craigslist advertising stump grinding. Probably cheaper than a full service operation, but more of a gamble on professionalism.
- Rent a stump grinder. $330 a day for a self propelled one.
- Buy the grinder attachment for my Ventrac. About $3000 unless I see a used one for sale. Has some appeal because I'll probably make 10 more stumps each year, but without being able to test it you never know how well general purpose tools compare to specialized ones.
Any feedback? Any guess how long would it take a pro to do 50 stumps that are mostly <18" white pines that are already very flat to the ground.
