Trying to update our kitchen without doing a complete overhaul. Have some lovely (lol) honey oak cabinets and dark granite countertops to work with. My wife wants to go light on the floor buy by eyes can’t really buy in with so much dark everywhere else. Currently looking at a Mohawk boathouse brown. Vs Sailcloth open to other options as well any suggestions would be great link to kitchen : here

Had Mohawk flooring installed recently. Once complete noticed some minor gapping. Eventually dirt or dust may fill it in. Could this lead to shorten life if watemoisture happens to come in contact? Obviously not intentionally, but kids will be kids.
I’m not sure the engineering behind Mohawks moisture protection but from my mechanically inclined brain, I’m inclined to believe the key is tight joints being #1.
Would filling it in with wood putty be a bad idea?

Mission Log: Mission Day 0024

Addendum 02

The process of getting the remaining four of the Lignignory 'nobility' out of their wagons made the business of carving a roadway out of the surrounding trees, let alone circling the wagons to 'guard' the ragged-looking people and teams of neo-horses seem as simple as falling off of logs. Group after group of servants, addressed alternately by names and insults, flitted around the interior area from one wagon to the next, each one trying to meet one increasingly ridiculous demand after another.
True to Stockley's prediction, the other Lignignory House members wasted at least 16.237 minutes arguing from the sheltered doorways of their respective wagons over who should exit first versus the value of 'presenting the star!' as it were. Finally, one persuaded “Master Nehdud” that the Great Navigator favored the bold, and Nehdud Lignignory deigned to follow the advice of his own chief personal servant and descended the rickety wooden stair-steps from his wagon.
His eyes kept darting around, landing on various members of the ragged-looking folk who invariably turned out to be 'female' of one species or another. And who, in turn, always found some bit of business that required them to keep a neo-horse or even a whole wagon between themselves and “Master Nehdud” shortly after he focused attention on them.
The whole image went on from there, with ribbons and buttons weaving their way across obviously padded jackets and pants, down to the kind of pointy-toed shoes of sky-blue fabric with the tips curling back far enough to nearly touch his ankles. His 'servants', led by a willowy and simpering sort who answered when Nehud gave instructions to 'Stakkeg', produced another shade-producing cloth on arched wire holders, and the four of them made their way toward the foyer.
Tianna noted his approach and gestured for the rest of the group inside to screen her. “Tell Stockley I'll wait for him and Packard through there,” she told Radclyffe while jabbing a thumb toward the stairway-door. “And remember that no one, not even the Lord or the Heir himself, get to go past that without Packard's say-so.”
Radclyffe raised an eyebrow. “And if he insists? 'Cos you know he's gonna,” he asked.
Tianna shrugged. “Tell him that we're making sure that there aren't any soilslingers about.”
Radclyffe's expression remained unchanged. “'Soilslingers'?” he asked. “The four-handed little creatures that children born into suddenly-wealthy and poorly-educated families get told will ruin their clothes if they get too close to mudpuddles or drain-grates. Those things?”
Tianna nodded. “Fear of ruining his appearance is pretty much the only reliable way of getting him to stay away from somewhere,” she pointed out.
Radclyffe nodded once, his shoulders relaxing a bit. “True enough,” he allowed.
And with that Tianna slipped through the door and made sure to close it as fully as possible behind herself.
The remaining three made their own ways out onto the grass and jockeying for position. The remaining male, Haruinn, gestured frequently, but his hands tended to stay very close to the hilts of his 24 visible knives of various lengths sheathed about his person. His pale face and mousy-brown hair contrasted sharply with the black and dark green color-scheme of his outfit, a quilted vest and fencer's upper tunic, matching loose pants tucked into knee-high leather boots. His servant, “Midmolk”, hauled a tower-shield out from its resting place to one side of the stairs and followed his master as he walked toward the foyer.
The other two ladies made their way down with some degree of assistance from their own servants. One woman's coal-black hair had been done up in what I think was supposed to be an imitation of a mountain peak, possibly a specific one with a particular ridgeline, arching across her head like a sort of quarter-rotated mohawk. Below that, a layer of pale yellowish-brown paint covered her face from hairline to the top of his darkly-stained ruffled collar, with daubs reminiscent of 'blusher' and 'highlighter' on her cheeks and even a dark-green 'eyeshadow' ringing her eyepits. And, naturally, her lips sported arches of red not quite matching the actual contours of the flesh. Her outfit had the remains of a lot of feathers and ripped-lace everywhere, dangling from puffed-out shoulders and a curtain-like skirt. A clock-cycle's worth of extrapolations let me I figure that prior to the family's hasty departure from the Capital it might have been rather fancy. Moreso if she didn't stalk like an angry cat, glaring at everything that came within two paces; even the neo-horses nudged each other aside to give her some room as she passed. Bhiocasaid... bee-yo-ca-seyd as her own servant Totra pronounced it... actually met the eyes of one of the bandit-types poking at the walls and floors; Wakeley simply nocked an arrow on his bow and stood, staring back at her, until Bhiocasaid gave a silent snarl and slammed her fist down on one of the picnic tables, growling at anyone who looked at her before heading for the nearest restroom-door.
By contrast, the other woman tended to slump as she walked, concealing jaw-cracking yawns behind a handkerchief as she drifted past the neo-horses, on a general heading for the foyer. Unlike virtually every other member of the house, her hair only hung down to just above her shoulders where it didn't flare out into what I would almost swear was bed-head. Her greying, formerly sunny-yellow outfit looked more like a nightgown, and her feet sported something like slippers; someone kept trying to put a kind of shawl around her, taking advantage of the yawning to tuck the thing under first one elbow and then the other until she succeeded in keeping it wrapped in place.
“Lady Zoti,” said Lathai, standing guard by the front door, addressing the yawning woman before turning to her attendant. “Yera,” she continued, with slightly more sympathetic tones. The servant nodded with what looked like a bit of gratitude before taking “Lady Zoti” by the elbow and steering her inside, while Lathai held the door for them.
Zoti settled onto the bench-seat to one of the picnic tables, crossed her arms in front of her, and promptly fell asleep while resting on the metallic surface.
I open up dedicated psychological profile documents for each of the Lignignory family-members. None of them seem like the kinds of guests I want to keep around for very long; even the snoring Zoti gives the impression that she could probably sleep through most emergencies, and judging from her general physique and movements she's going to need a fair bit of diet and exercise before I expect to get anything out of her besides a complaint that she's trying to sleep, here.
Still, who knows what I might be able to find buried under those facades with a bit of digging?

2024.04.28 19:37 SerAnakin First Emergency Life-Saving Rescue Tool

First Emergency Life-Saving Rescue Tool
WARNING this will be a long post and I might be all over the place. Sorry about my grammar.
Hello! This post is about my first firearm purchase and experience so far after 30 days of ownership.
A little backstory: Just over one month ago I took an NRA Basic Pistol Course. That was the first time I ever discharged a firearm and I enjoyed the class overall very much. My reason for getting into firearms was for self-defense/home defense due to the turmoil and overall rough economic and social situation in America.
After the class, I rented a Canik Mete SF, a CZ P10-C, a Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 4", a Shield Plus 4" Performance Center, and a Sig Sauer P320 (not sure which model specifically). I wanted something that was state-compliant, concealable, but also large enough to be easy to shoot & cheap to feed, hence the 9mm/15rd/~4" barrel. It was most difficult to shoot the Shield Plus and I didn't like the factory extended mag, but I liked the M&P9 the most, primarily for the grip texture but overall it felt pretty good, and definitely has the most robust history as far as duty use and reliability. It had the new non-hinged trigger which functioned great but looked weird and felt plastic-y. The Sig Sauer was noticeably fastest to re-acquire the sights after each shot, it went right back on target, and I did shoot best with it but not by much. I decided against it due to some reported safety issues and the CZ was really good too but I liked it less than the other three (the 4" Performance Center was a no-go, until I become more experienced at least). I shot second-best with the Canik but I think it was more snappy than everything except the Shield Plus.
Initially I was pretty set on the M&P9 due to the amazing reliability, but did more research and made a compromise. I chose the much less expensive Canik TP9 SF Elite which I think is the downgraded/older version of the Mete SF. Having duty use in the Turkish Air Force and the Turkish National Police, I expected it to be fairly reliable and capable. Having magazine compatibility with my friend was a nice bonus and I preferred the looks of the proportions of a slightly longer barrel/slide compared to the CZ and S&W, as well as the slide release lever. I actually ended up not using the slide release during live fire because I was taught to rack the slide since its a gross motor skill compared to a fine motor skill of using your thumb. Also, knowing myself, if I got the Mete SF, I would have an optic by now and I am poor, so that isn't something I wanted to do at this time.
Before buying ammo or anything else, I bought a Blacksmith 5-gun safe ($216 shipped). The safe is primarily to prevent kids or other untrained guests from having access to whats inside, and also gives me some room to grow. The biometric unlock works very fast, and it has key code and manual key unlock as well. I bolted it to the floor & wall so that it won't tip over and hurt anyone. I do think it should have thicker steel but it was cheap and I'll make do for now. I used the price difference from the S&W (~$300) to take a Defensive Pistol I & II course. Having a serviceable holster in the box right away was a nice touch as it let me take those classes without having to find the right holster in a hurry and spending more money. After those classes, I bought two extra OEM magazines ($77 shipped), as well as a 3-pack adjustable magazine carrier ($21 on Amazon), and a Nexbelt ($55) since that is what my local store had and I needed a belt for the practice competition match on the next day. I actually like this belt a lot but can't compare to anything. I wore it for a whole work day and the practice match. It was very comfortable, held onto my mag carriers and holster without any issues.
After unboxing and doing an initial cleaning and lubrication, I put 1,100 rounds of FMJ brass (115gr & 124gr) from 5 different manufacturers (Blazer, Fiocchi, Remington, Winchester, and Sellier & Bellot) as well as 10 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 135gr (just to see if they would feed properly). I had zero malfunctions or failures aside from what I believe to be two user-induced errors. The first was early on when I short-stroked the trigger. Once I let it out completely and pulled the trigger again it fired. The second was last week, either I accidentally pushed the mag release after drawing from the holster or the magazine was improperly seated and it hung out half-way after firing one round. It did not fall to the floor. I re-insterted it, racked the slide, and it functioned flawlessly after that. Something to note is that my friend bought a Canik SFX Rival before I got mine, and we took it to the range straight out of the box, no cleaning or lubrication, and in the first 150 rounds it had like 4 or 5 malfunctions, mostly failure to eject I think. After we cleaned and lubricated it, we put 200 rounds through it with no issues. He tried installing an optic (Holosun) but the head of one of the OEM Canik screws broke and he had to send it to a Gunsmith but has not got it back yet after two weeks. I really liked his Rival and did not mind the gaudy gray/gold scheme it had going on. It's just too big for concealed carry and I wanted something that could flex into that role. It's also much more expensive.
Now, the TP9 SF Elite is good, but I wish it had better texture on the frame and am considering getting a set of granulated Talon grips. I think the trigger is fine but am not experienced enough to really comment on that. I did like the single action trigger on the Ruger GP101 revolver that I shot in the NRA Basic Pistol Course more than any other trigger I've tried so far. I did notice that early on the Canik had like one or two spots on the take-up which felt like a wall, but the actual wall was more defined. I don't really notice these "fake walls" anymore, and I didn't check if they are still there or if they smoothed out after all the rounds I've put through it. I really like the fiber optic front/blacked out rear sights much more than the 3 white dot sights that most other handguns seem to have. The magazine release is nicely textured and easy to reach/press, and all the magazines drop freely to the ground when doing reloads. I think the only improvement here could be an extended mag release, but that might have issues with accidental presses. A flared magwell like the Mete SF or Rival would be awesome too. I don't have big hands but after 600 rounds I switched to the larger backstrap in the box because I preferred the more aggressive texture and it allowed me to get more contact with my support hand.
One big issue for me was that a part of the tang/beavertail was making contact with my strong hand thumb knuckle (the joint that connects to my hand, not the end joint). This actually bruised that area after a particularly long day at the range. I had this same issue with both the CZ and the S&W that I rented, making that spot noticeably sore. I recently tried a slightly different grip after 900rds and it no longer makes contact with that part of my thumb and my accuracy is pretty much the same. I think this is a "me-problem" because two other people tried it out and I asked them specifically about that issue and neither person experienced it. I am right-handed but according to one of my instructors, I am left-eye dominant. I've been shooting the whole time with my left eye closed. Just recently tried shooting with both eyes open, and I'm no longer shooting to the left, so that's something I want to practice more because I'm very slow with this method. I do focus on the front sight and not the target, and I think I should change that as well.
That about sums up my first month of firearm ownership. Everyone is so helpful and super nice and it's a wonderful community. I can't afford to do as much live-fire practice as I did this past month, but I plan to start doing dry-fire practice soon. I want to get a .357 revolver, but they are so expensive for what would essentially just be a range toy or maybe a backup tool if I get something small. I wish I could buy an AR-15 pattern rifle or a PCC, but it's currently illegal in my state and I want to remain a law-abiding citizen so I hope this situation changes. For now, I am very satisfied with my purchase and overall experience in the classes and at the range, and I hope to make improvements in all aspects. I saw the Canik Rival trigger is available on the Canik website and didn't know if that would be good for a concealed carry. Any and all tips, suggestions, and advice are welcome and appreciated, and thank you for reading this essay lol

Finished HQ/Office/The Shed
My wife and I had a baby last month and we needed a new office/private space fast, so I learned a ton from your posts and recently finished the conversion from shed “shell”-to livable space. Learned a lot, but most of all … hire someone to do drywall. Taping and mudding is an art, what took us a week could have been done by a pro crew in a day. Curious your thoughts and happy to answer questions.
Given the timeline, I found a “shell” to jumpstart the project. Started with basic 12x28 Old Hickory lofted barn and went a bit nuts to make it a pleasant spot to be including:
-Sub-panel with full “code worthy”electrical runs with 15 indoor+outdoor outletsq (electrician buddy advised and made sure we wouldn’t die) - 3-way diva dimmers for outdoor lighting, recessed puck LEDs under lofts, central track LEDs -sprayed 3-4 inches closed cell foam insulation on all walls and ceiling -drywall taping/mudding/texture (never again) -Mr Kool 4th gen mini-split -Mohawk underlayment and laminate flooring -baseboards and window trim -prepped and painted everything -gel stained rafter support beams and along with t&g in loft end walls to match -sealed everything everywhere -only remaining things to install are window shades and French door when they arrive

2024.04.27 16:54 qgomega Austin is still the Live Music Capital of the World....Don't take it for granted!

Y'all: I see wayyyy to much negativity surrounding the Austin live music scene and feel the need to set the record straight. If you think it's at all difficult to find great live music in this town you aren't trying one bit.
Here's a little bit of my experience as a live music nerd living in Austin. I'll be relocating to Chicago at the end of May to be closer to family, but in my time here (Since Jan 2, 2020) I've been able to make the most of it. Despite working rotating shifts in New Braunfels, I have seen live music at 100 unique venues in Austin, and in 2023 alone saw all or part of the sets of 185 different bands. Close to half of these were no cover. More local than touring. There are so many genres here with just killer scenes, from ska (Flamingo Cantina will forever be one of my favorite venues) to psych (hotel Vegas) to jazz (Elephant Room, Continental Gallery, Monks, etc) to metal (The Lost Well, Mohawk). I'm really going to miss it.
It does take work and planning. I check the Chronicle listings religiously. There's ALWAYS anywhere from 30 (Monday) to 125+ (Fri-Sat) unique live music events in town every single day of the year. Some sets and shows aren't well advertised, but following bands, venues, and promoters can tip you off to some gigs. Facebook events and groups for some genres (i.e. Texas Psychedelia, Austin Jamily) can be a great conduit to gig info, and sometimes people will give out free tickets they can't use to shows (I think I saw Billy Strings 3 times for free). I finally broke down and got an Instagram for some of the newer bands that eschew FB. Plus some of the Austin-centric accounts like What Where When can have some info not found elsewhere.
One complaint I hear is that some shows are dead and that's boring. My response is twofold: 1) Bring a friend! 2) So what if there's only 5 or 20 other people there? This band is fucking amazing, so enjoy it! I've seen world class Jazz at the Gallery in a crowd of 3 at 12am on a Tuesday. Just last night, My Education, one of the best bands in town and a pre-eminent post-rock group that absolutely kicks fuckin ass, played to about 20 people at Chess Club. Should they have been playing to 2000? Absolutely! But was it still a fantastic set that left me with my jaw on the floor? Yes!
I could go on for days because I am so passionate about this but I'll leave it at this: GO TO SHOWS! Go to all the shows. Go to shows solo. Go to shows with friends. Enjoy the music, support the scenes, tip the bands. It's up to all of us to keep Austin the Live Music Capital of the World.
Edit to add my downtown show tip: parking is free on San Marcos Street on the east side just south of 3rd, only about a 10-15 minute walk from all the red river clubs. I've saved soooooo much money this way.

When I first heard about Adult Loaded Questions, I thought it was just another boring trivia game. Boy, was I wrong! This game is a rollercoaster of laughter and fun, perfect for an adult party or game night. The concept of guessing which player wrote which answer while answering the crazy questions yourself is entertaining and engaging.
What stood out for me was the spinner board and the 308 loaded questions, which ensured hours of nonstop entertainment. The component structure is well thought out, with answer pads, pencils, and rule cards all included in the package. The game is suitable for 4-6 players and offers a thrilling adult party experience.
That being said, the game does have some explicit content, so it's better suited for a more mature audience. If you're not comfortable with suggestive and sexual questions, this might not be the game for you. Also, I noticed that some reviews mentioned missing question cards, which was a little disappointing.
Overall, Adult Loaded Questions is a hilarious and engaging game for adults, but make sure you're comfortable with the content before diving in. With 308 loaded questions, nonstop laughter, and the thrill of the spinner, this game guarantees a memorable night with friends.

🔗Dr. Martens Jadon III Boots: Tall, Tapered, and Stylish

Imagine strutting down the streets in the Dr. Martens Jadon III Boots, standing tall with a 1.85 inch sole and a sleek, tapered shape that lets everyone know you've arrived. Made with the soft, buttery-like Pisa leather, these boots feel luxurious against your skin, making breaking in a non-issue. The platform boots have gained quite the reputation for being eye-catching, with their black and white heel loop and unmistakable yellow stitching.
But what if I told you these boots offer more than just style? The Goodyear-welted lines and reinforced welt stitch provide sturdy support, and you'll find their comfortable footbed a welcome addition. Lace-up closure makes putting them on a breeze, and the rubber material keeps your feet dry on even the snowiest of days.
Despite their numerous pros, we can't overlook the cons either. These boots might call for some extra time putting them on, as some users have reported feeling a bit heavy, especially around the ankle. However, don't let that stop you from enjoying the countless compliments these shoes are sure to draw as you make your way through the halls.

I recently had the chance to get my hands on the Peugeot 308 GT from Norev. This 1/43 scale diecast model car is simply stunning to behold. As a racing car enthusiast, the level of detail they've put into this model is absolutely impressive. The vivid red paint job and the intricate design of the car's bodywork are both breathtaking.
One of the standout features of this model is the use of high-quality materials, which gives it a sturdy and durable feel. When I first held it, I was amazed by the attention to detail on every aspect of the Peugeot 308 GT. From the wheels to the grille, everything has been crafted with precision and care.
While there isn't much to complain about this model, a minor drawback is the price. It's on the higher end of the scale for diecast model cars, which might be a deterrent for some potential buyers. However, considering the quality and level of detail that went into creating this masterpiece, I believe the price is justified.
Overall, the Peugeot 308 GT from Norev is a must-have for any racing car fan or collector. Its exceptional craftsmanship, impeccable attention to detail, and high-quality materials make it an unparalleled addition to any collection.

🔗Adidas Gazelle Maple Leaf Sneaker: Durable and Stylish Fit

In the world of fashion, Adidas is famous for creating bold and fashionable sneakers. The Adidas Gazelle Bold Maple Leaf is no exception, designed specifically for women who appreciate stylish accessories. After using them in my daily life, I can attest to their sleek appearance and comfortable fit.
One of the key features that stood out to me was the suede upper, which gives the shoes a luxurious and premium feel. The synthetic lining also adds to the overall comfort, ensuring a snug fit without compromising breathability.
However, there were a couple of areas where the Adidas Gazelle Bold Maple Leaf didn't quite measure up to my expectations. Firstly, the shoes made quite a bit of noise, especially on wood or tile floors. This can be a bit of a turnoff for those of us who prefer a more quiet shoe.
Additionally, while the fit was generally comfortable, the shoes were slightly heavier than I anticipated. This added weight might not suit everyone, especially if you're looking for a lightweight alternative for everyday wear.
Overall, the Adidas Gazelle Bold Maple Leaf is a stylish and comfortable sneaker that has a unique charm. It might not be perfect for everyone, but if you appreciate the combination of beauty and functionality, it's definitely worth considering.

🔗Super Bulky Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn in Starlight Color

https://preview.redd.it/ilrjn82o1zwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83296ea5beed38a18bcd067af22d04034d84ba2b
I recently had the opportunity to work with Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn in the Starlight color variety, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations! The feel of the yarn was incredibly soft and warm, making it perfect for creating cozy blankets, scarves, and more.
One of the standout features for me was the versatility of this yarn. Whether I was crocheting or knitting, the stitches flowed smoothly and easily. I particularly appreciated the suggested gauge, which made it extremely easy to gauge the size of my projects, and the variety of crochet hooks and knitting needles I could use with it.
However, no product is without its drawbacks. The Starlight yarn did tend to fray more than I would have liked, and I encountered a few knots in my skeins. The color also seemed to vary slightly from one dye lot to another, which required more planning and adjustments when working on larger projects.
Overall, I enjoyed using Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn for my projects. While it wasn't perfect, it was easy to work with and the final pieces turned out wonderfully. If you're looking for a super bulky yarn with great texture and a luxurious feel, this may be the yarn for you. Just be prepared for the occasional challenge, and you'll be on your way to creating beautiful, cozy projects in no time!

Buyer's Guide

Welcome to the Buyer's Guide section for 7.62x51 and 308 rifles. In this guide, we will discuss some important features, considerations, and general advice that could help you make an informed decision when purchasing a rifle in this category.

https://preview.redd.it/k0i4z2lo1zwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=441ae2978d95ba8dc6ad98386efa9053d9d1dbd9

Understanding 7.62x51 and 308

7.62x51 and the 308 Winchester are both versatile and popular rounds used in hunting and long-range shooting applications. They can be used for a wide range of hunting scenarios, from taking down large animals to target shooting competitions. Although both rounds share some common features, there may be some slight differences in their performance and compatibility with certain firearms.

Key Features to Consider

  • Action Type: Take into account the rifle's action type, such as bolt-action, semi-automatic, or lever-action. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, and may suit different shooting styles or preferences.
  • Barrel Length: Barrel length plays a significant role in accuracy, range, and recoil. Shorter barrels may be more portable, but they sacrifice accuracy and range for a shorter overall length of the rifle.
  • Stock Material: The most common materials for rifle stocks are wood, plastic, or synthetic. Each material has its own pros and cons, such as durability, weight, and cost.
  • Sight Options: Choosing the right sight setup for your shooting needs is crucial. Consider whether you prefer a traditional set-up with iron sights or optics like a scope or red dot sight.
  • Weight: The weight of the rifle affects its balance, handling, and fatigue during extended shooting sessions. Lighter rifles are generally easier to handle but may sacrifice some stability and accuracy.

Important Considerations

  • Shooting Purpose: Determine your primary use for the rifle - hunting, target shooting, or general use. Each purpose may require different features and considerations, such as bullet weights, sight setups, and overall length.
  • Budget: Always consider your budget when shopping for a rifle. Keep in mind that more expensive options may offer better quality materials, improved accuracy, and better long-term value.

2024.04.27 00:24 CJB95 What is this piece called?

My dog ate part of my floor and puked in another section and I pulled up the transition strips to clean and check for model or product numbers. Found that they're both falling apart on the bottom and not holding in anymore, in addition to the obvious chunk taken out of one.
The ones around the fireplace are 1.5 inches and the one between the kitchen and dining room is 2 inches.
I'm pretty sure it's vinyl but I looked on the Mohawk website (what's on the label) and none of the transitions they have match the shape of this. Nor do any of the product codes (#LWE202 and LWT206) seem to exist. Closest I could find was a T molding but these have a slit down the middle so I don't think it's that.

Mohawk Industries reports Q1 adjusted EPS $1.86, consensus $1.68
Reports Q1 revenue $2.7B, consensus $2.65B. Commenting on the Company's first quarter results, Chairman and CEO Jeff Lorberbaum stated, "Though economic headwinds are impacting industry sales, margins and mix, our first quarter results reflected the positive effect of actions we are taking to enhance our performance. Our earnings per share rose year over year as a result of restructuring, productivity initiatives and benefits from lower cost raw materials and energy, partially offset by weaker pricing and mix. Across our regions, market conditions remained similar to the prior quarter, with significant pricing and mix pressure due to industry competition for volume. Though slowing, the commercial channel continues to outperform residential. Residential remodeling remains soft due to low housing sales and the impact of inflation on discretionary spending. Retailers have reported that consumers are reluctant to initiate higher ticket projects, with flooring facing greater pressure since most replacements can be readily deferred. Our teams remain focused on managing through the near-term environment, realizing sales opportunities, reducing controllable costs and completing restructuring initiatives. We continue to manage our production levels to align inventories with market demand. To stimulate sales, we are investing in new product introductions with enhanced features and merchandising that conveys the value of our collections. Given inflationary pressures in labor, benefits and other items, we continue to take additional actions to reduce our cost structure and improve productivity."

🔗Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet - Protect Your Valuables

https://preview.redd.it/h6ech0u6jkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e25f33307e4ce634bf719d175c48ee0ac38a1deb
The Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet, Steel, is a reliable and durable option for storing your rifles, shotguns, pistols, and other valuable belongings. The exterior finish is a sleek black, and the interior is spacious with an abundance of storage options. One of the main draws of this cabinet is its strong security features, including a key-coded cylinder lock and 4-way door locking system.
However, the most disappointing aspect of this cabinet is its build quality. The thin metal sheets and weak locking mechanism make it an untrustworthy option for securing your precious firearms and valuables. I had high hopes for this cabinet, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I found the installation process to be somewhat difficult and time-consuming as well.
On a positive note, the steel shelves are a nice touch for added durability and support. They make it easier to organize your firearms and accessories, and the adjustable half-width shelves allow for customization. Additionally, the molded barrel rests and foam-padded bottom provide an extra level of protection for your antique firearms.
Unfortunately, the interior design is not as well thought out as it could be. The placement of the barrel rest holes is not ideal for all firearms, and some users have noted that the paint job inside the cabinet is of poor quality, leading to rust formation.
Overall, while the Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet, Steel, has its merits, the build quality and installation process are significant drawbacks that cannot be ignored.

🔗Top-rated, affordable gun safe with robust security features

https://preview.redd.it/i1k1em47jkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1b30091d4dc34a4fdb4b050c36d3c2f2d270f74
I recently had the opportunity to put the Fort Knox PB1 Handgun Safe to the test, and I must say I was impressed with its durability and functionality. This safe's 10-gauge steel body and 3/16-inch wraparound door make it practically impossible to break open, ensuring that your valuable firearms are well protected. I particularly enjoyed the gas-strut-assisted heavyweight door, which makes lifting the door a breeze and holds it open for easy access.
The Simplex push-button mechanical locking system is a winner in my book. It's fast and easy to use, providing up to 1,081 different combinations to keep your safe secure. The textured grey powder coat finish adds an elegant touch while still exuding a sense of strength and quality. The interior features egg crate foam lining to protect your firearms, guns, and magazines from scratches and damage.
One of the standout features for me was the convenience of pre-drilled holes for easy bolting down. It made setting up the safe a breeze and allowed me to feel confident that it wouldn't be going anywhere. The only downside I experienced was the limited number of combination possibilities, which could potentially make it easier for someone with ill intentions to access the safe. Still, this safe's overall build and security features outweigh this minor inconvenience.
The Fort Knox PB1 Handgun Safe is the perfect solution for gun owners looking for a reliable and strong safe to protect their firearms. With its sleek design and impressive construction, this safe is truly the best bang for your buck.

🔗Secure, High-Capacity Biometric Pistol Safe

https://preview.redd.it/c6bmrdh7jkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c828b1758eaa3c825282f1abff000aa90827efd9
I've been using this high-capacity gun safe for a couple of months now, and it's truly a game-changer for me. The solid steel body and smooth anti-scratch finish give it a sleek look, while the biometric fingerprint lock ensures that only authorized personnel can access the firearms stored inside. One of the things that stood out to me was the seamless welding of the body - the lack of visible seams gives it a premium feel.
One of the most impressive features is its capacity. With two separate layers, I can store more items than I would have been able to with a regular safe. This has been particularly helpful in organizing my valuables and keeping them safely out of reach of my curious young children.
And let's talk about the biometric fingerprint lock. Setting up my personal code was a breeze, and now it only takes a few seconds to unlock the safe. The scanner has a high resolution, making it easier to distinguish between different prints. Of course, I understand that no security feature is foolproof, but so far, it's done a great job of keeping my firearms secure.
There's also the added bonus of external power supply through a Micro-USB. Though I haven't had a chance to use it yet, the option is there if I ever need to. The pre-drilled holes and hardware for floor-mounting make installation a breeze, and the low battery alert is a thoughtful feature that ensures you're always aware of the safe's power status.
Speaking of battery, there's an option to set the safe to a Silence mode, which is great for nighttime or anywhere else I want to keep things quiet. However, I have noticed that there is sometimes a fairly loud sound when entering the combo, which may be something to consider depending on your needs.
In conclusion, this gun safe has been a rock-solid addition to my home security setup. It's a reliable, spacious, and versatile option for anyone looking to store their firearms and valuables securely. So, if you're in the market for a high-quality, well-designed gun safe, give this one a shot.

🔗Hornady 16 Gauge Steel Fireproof Keypad Safe

When I received the Hornady Fireproof Keypad Safe, I was eager to test its robustness and functionality. As a product reviewer, I had the opportunity to use it in my daily life, and I must say, I was impressed by its features.
Firstly, the 16 gauge steel body construction and 8 gauge steel door of the safe had a lasting impression on me. The durable black powder coat finish added a sleek touch to its overall appearance. The electronic lock with a key backup provided an extra layer of security that I appreciated, especially when using it to store important documents and valuable items.
One of the standout features of this safe was the interior light, which automatically illuminates when opening the safe. It was a thoughtful design choice that allowed me to conveniently access my items without fumbling around in the dark.
The fireproof rating of 30 minutes in up to 1400 degrees F was an impressive feature, but I also noticed that it was not water-resistant, which could be a potential downside for those living in areas with high humidity.
The removable interior shelf offered flexible and secure storage options for a variety of items, from firearms and documents to jewelry and hobby equipment. I particularly enjoyed the protective carpet interior, as it safeguarded my valuables from potential damage.
One downside that I encountered was the low battery warning, which I found a bit annoying at times. It would be great if the alarm system could last a bit longer on a single set of batteries.
Overall, the Hornady Fireproof Keypad Safe was a reliable and durable choice for storing valuable items. With its heavy-duty construction and convenient features, it made a secure addition to my daily life.

🔗High-Security Narrow Gun Cabinet with 12 Gun Capacity and 1-Hour Fire Rating

https://preview.redd.it/4p4ly3g8jkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4de3a9a5c4cb367e13ce7c5b93fda87e622e911
I recently had the opportunity to use the Tracker Safe and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The exterior dimensions of 59 inches in height, 23 inches in width, and 20 inches in depth provided a sturdy and substantial storage space for my belongings.
One of the most impressive features of this gun safe is its fireproof capabilities with a fire test temperature of 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and a fire test duration of 1 hour. It not only safeguards my valuables from theft but also ensures their protection in case of a fire emergency.
The safe's construction is top-notch, with 11-gauge steel and 2 layers of fireboard, and it weighs around 400 pounds, making it nearly impossible to break into. I particularly appreciated the additional locking bolts, internal door adjuster, and heat-activated door seal for added security.
Inside, the Tracker Safe had ample space for my long-barreled firearms, thanks to the adjustable shelving heights and placements. The large upper shelf with a small hole for long barrels and the 3 small shelves provided sufficient organization and flexibility.
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. The combination lock provided by the manufacturer was non-customizable, which would have been a nice feature to have. Additionally, the upper shelf appeared to bow downward when there was an excessive amount of weight placed on it.
Overall, the Tracker Safe more than exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it for anyone in need of a secure and reliable storage solution for their valuables.

🔗Top-Class Secure 5-Gun Storage

https://preview.redd.it/61hrfms8jkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9778d3fa5d93f30530994abbe1d486dd777f0a8
I've had the pleasure of using this gun safe in my home for quite some time now, and I must say, it's been a reliable companion. The first thing that stands out is the 3-directional bolt system. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my firearms are securely locked away. Plus, the high strength steel construction ensures durability, even in the face of potential wear and tear.
One feature that I absolutely love is the soft foam pad at the bottom. Not only does it provide a cushioned resting place for my weapons, but it also helps maintain their condition over time. The holes for mounting to the wall and/or floor are another great addition. This gives me the flexibility to install the safe wherever I see fit, whether it's in my bedroom or living room.
However, no product is perfect. There are some aspects of this gun safe that could be improved. For instance, the keyed access can be a bit cumbersome at times. While it does offer an added layer of security, it can also be a nuisance if you misplace the key.
In conclusion, this affordable 5-gun safe from American Furniture Classics has been a worthwhile investment for me. Its robust construction and secure 3-directional bolt system make it an ideal choice for those looking to store their firearms safely and securely. While the keyed access may require some getting used to, the overall quality and performance of this product are well worth the cost.

🔗Heavy-Duty 5-Gun Metal Security Cabinet

I came across the American Furniture Classics 5 Gun Starter Metal Security Cabinet and decided to give it a try. I must say, this cabinet has exceeded my expectations in terms of its 3-point locking system, which keeps my firearms safe and secure. The cabinet is made from high-quality black powder-coated paint, making it both attractive and durable.
One of the standout features of this cabinet is its soft foam barrel rest and carpeted floor, which protects my long guns from scratches and damage. It's also fully assembled right out of the box, so I didn't have to worry about any confusing instructions nor spend hours putting it together. Additionally, it includes four expansion bolts to secure it to the floor, providing even more peace of mind.
However, there are a few cons to consider. Some users have reported issues with the cabinet's build quality, stating that the metal seems thin and may not withstand a determined break-in attempt. Additionally, the cabinet's lock mechanism has been described as "flimsy" by some, leaving me slightly concerned about the overall security it provides.
In conclusion, the American Furniture Classics 5 Gun Starter Metal Security Cabinet has become an essential part of my home, providing a secure and affordable storage solution for my long guns. While it may not be the most robust option on the market, it provides more than enough security for everyday use.

Making the VEVOR 6 Gun Safe even more appealing is its solid construction. The exterior has a sleek black finish that adds a touch of sophistication to your home. As a reviewer who has been using the Winchester 36 Long Gun Safe in my daily life, I can confidently say that this is a great investment for anyone looking to keep their firearms and valuables secure. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the sleek, powder-coated gun metal gray finish, which added a stylish touch to the safe while also enhancing its durability.
One of the standout features of this gun safe was its electronic lock with an override key. Having both an electronic keypad and a backup key gives me peace of mind knowing that I won't be locked out in case of a power failure or if the electronic lock fails. The solid steel locking bolts provided robust security, ensuring that my firearms are kept safe and secure at all times.
The interior of the safe was spacious enough to accommodate up to 26 long guns, making it an ideal choice for gun enthusiasts and collectors alike. Additionally, the adjustable shelves allowed me to customize the layout according to my needs, providing ample storage for other valuables as well.
However, there were some cons worth mentioning. The door of the safe had a bit of play in it when closed and locked, which could be improved upon in future models. Furthermore, the instruction manual could have been more comprehensive, especially when it came to resetting the combo on the electronic lock.
Overall, I would recommend the Winchester 36 Long Gun Safe to anyone looking for a reliable, well-made safe with ample storage and good security features. It may not be perfect, but at this price point, it's hard to beat.

However, one minor drawback - the locking mechanism could benefit from a more secure two-way system for enhanced security. Despite this, it's a reliable storage solution that ensures my loved ones remain protected from accidental access.

SnapSafe Under Bed Safe was a game-changer for me. I wanted to keep my valuables secure but also easily accessible, and this product fit the bill perfectly. Its sturdy construction with heavy-duty steel and pre-drilled bolt holes made it a reliable option for permanent installation. The 3-foot cable provided additional security by allowing me to anchor the safe to a stationary object.
The digital lock was a standout feature, with its programmable 3 to 8 digit access code and key backup. It also featured a pry-resistant door, which added peace of mind by keeping unauthorized users at bay, especially children. However, one downside that I noticed was the audio beeps, which could be a bit noisy at times.
Using the SnapSafe Under Bed Safe in my daily life was trouble-free. The large slide-out drawer accommodated a variety of items, from firearms and jewelry to documents, giving me the flexibility I needed for secure storage. The interior space was more than enough, and the exterior dimensions enabled it to fit neatly under my bed, taking up minimal space.
Overall, I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for an under bed safe that offers both security and convenience. It may not be perfect, with the audio beeps being a minor drawback, but it certainly gets the job done and provides the peace of mind I was seeking.

🔗Secure 3 Gun Cases for Pistols

I recently decided to invest in a quality gun safe to keep my pistols secure and out of reach from curious little fingers. I came across the BTEXPECT Aluminum Handgun Safe and decided to give it a try.
The first thing that struck me was its sleek design. The aluminum and ABS material not only gives it a modern look, but also provides durability. The black color blended perfectly with my home decor.
One feature that really stood out was the high-density foam lining. It's not something you'd typically think about, but it's surprisingly useful. Not only does it protect my guns from any potential damage, but it also keeps them in place and organized.
The combination lock was another highlight. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my kids can't accidentally open it. Plus, its non-slip handle makes it easy to carry around when needed.
However, there are a couple of things that could be improved. The weight of the safe is quite light, which while making it easy to move, also makes me question its robustness in case of a real break-in attempt. Additionally, the size is on the smaller side, so it only fits four pistols comfortably.
Despite these minor shortcomings, I've been extremely happy with my purchase. It provides both convenience and security, giving me and my family a sense of security.

🔗Remington Gun Club 4-Gun Fireproof and Waterproof Gun Safe

https://preview.redd.it/qnx4ss0djkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3be912c20d9341d598e232c3b5f8d1607069d16
I've been using the Remington Gun Club 36 Plus Gun Safe for quite some time now, and I must say it's lived up to its reputation of offering consistent, secure, and feature-filled protection for my collection. The fireproof and waterproof capabilities are a lifesaver, as I've always been worried about those catastrophes. The programmable electronic lock gives me peace of mind, knowing that my collection is safely locked away.
As for the interior, the full carpeting and quilted door organizer make it feel like a VIP treatment for my guns. The only drawback I've noticed is slightly limited storage capacity for a truly extensive collection, but other than that minor inconvenience, I'm absolutely pleased with its performance.

🔗Biometric Bedside Gun Safe with Alarm and Secure Lock

https://preview.redd.it/8hovf1fdjkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4460addd58d0ffab2a422ed6a546229ba7cdb301
As a homeowner, firearm safety has always been a top concern for me. The Tactical45 Gun Vault Pistol Safe has truly surpassed my expectations in ensuring secure and quick access to my weapon when needed most.
The biometric technology provides me with peace of mind knowing that only authorized individuals can access the safe, while the extra security layers provide an added layer of protection. However, it can be quite cumbersome for those with larger hands and fingers due to its compact size. Overall, this safe delivers on its promise of keeping my family and property safe from potential threats.

🔗Jolitac Portable Quick Access Pistol Gun Safe Box

https://preview.redd.it/wuro9cqdjkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec270e337eef90c7eee90f336ab43601aff26134
I recently got my hands on the Jolitac Quick Access Portable Gun Safe, and I must say, I've been quite impressed! This little gem is perfect for keeping my handgun and other valuables secure, whether I'm at home, in the car, or on the go. The best part is that it's a breeze to use – just input your combination, and voila! Instant access to your items.
One of the highlights of this product is its size and portability. The compact design fits snugly in my briefcase, making it easy to take everywhere I go. I also love the high-grade PU handle, which makes it incredibly easy to carry around. Plus, it meets TSA airline guidelines, so I can rest assured knowing my belongings are protected while flying.
However, one minor drawback I noticed is the 16-gauge carbon steel construction. While it's certainly sturdy, I can't help but think that something a bit more heavy-duty might offer even greater protection for my handgun. Additionally, the safe cable doesn't seem quite as durable as I'd like.
Despite these minor setbacks, I would still recommend the Jolitac Quick Access Portable Gun Safe to anyone in need of a portable storage solution for their valuables. It's a reliable, easy-to-use product that has definitely made my life more convenient!

Buyer's Guide

Bedside gun safes are designed to provide quick and easy access to your firearms while keeping them secure and safe from unauthorized users. These safes are typically compact and made to fit under your bed, on a nightstand, or in a similar space.

Size and Fit

https://preview.redd.it/60bpvj5gjkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88030fd145d06f39acd6236132f2cea781eb9c16
When considering a bedside gun safe, pay attention to the dimensions and the available space in your home. Make sure the safe you choose will fit comfortably in the desired location while not taking up too much space. Some safes come with adjustable shelves or compartments, allowing you to customize the interior to accommodate various firearm sizes.

Security Features

The primary purpose of a bedside gun safe is to provide security. Look for features such as electronic locks with override keys, reinforced steel construction, and tamper-resistant locking mechanisms. The safe should also have drill-resistant hard plate material to prevent forced entry.

Ease of Access

Your bedside gun safe should be easy to access in an emergency situation. Consider a safe with a quick-access mechanism, such as a biometric lock, touchpad, or key lock. Be sure to choose a combination that you can remember easily, so you don't waste precious time retrieving your firearms during an emergency.

Fire Protection

While not a requirement for bedside gun safes, having a fire-resistant safe can provide additional peace of mind. A safe with an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) rating for fire protection will help ensure that your firearms and important documents remain safe even in a fire.

Price Range and Value

Bedside gun safes come in a variety of price ranges. Determine your budget and consider the features that best fit your needs. More expensive safes may offer better security features and construction, but they may also be overkill for your specific needs.

Brand Reputation

https://preview.redd.it/37emoe1hjkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5f0f31c11fe8fac233b0eead1c77c3b19850599
When selecting a bedside gun safe, research the brand's reputation for quality, customer service, and product support. A reputable brand should offer warranties, and they should be responsive to any questions or concerns you may have.
Remember, choosing the right bedside gun safe is a personal decision that depends on your specific needs, budget, and security requirements. Take the time to research and consider all the options available to find the perfect safe for you and your family.

FAQ

What are bedside gun safes?

Bedside gun safes are compact and portable storage units designed to hold and protect firearms in the bedroom. They are typically smaller in size compared to traditional safes, making them a convenient option for firearm storage in confined spaces.

https://preview.redd.it/f8dwhdghjkwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01cd9dda5f44d7f1a6c423c52e88394b33dce3ad

Why should I consider a bedside gun safe?

A bedside gun safe can provide a secure storage solution for firearms within your bedroom, ensuring that they are safely stowed away from children and unauthorized individuals. Additionally, having a gun nearby in case of an emergency can be reassuring.

What features should I look for in a bedside gun safe?

  • Portability: Consider a bedside gun safe that is lightweight and easy to move around the room or house.
  • Capacity: Check the interior dimensions of the safe to ensure it can hold the number and size of firearms you want to store.
  • Ease of use and access: Look for a safe with a user-friendly locking mechanism, such as a biometric lock or a combination lock, that allows for easy access while also providing security.
  • Security: Choose a bedside gun safe with tamper-resistant features, such as pry-resistant locks and reinforced doors, to keep your firearms secure from theft and unauthorized access.
  • Durability: Select a safe made from high-quality materials that can withstand wear and tear over time, ensuring it remains functional and secure.

How do I choose the right size of bedside gun safe?

Consider the number and size of firearms you want to store in the safe. Measure the dimensions of your firearms and compare them to the interior dimensions of the safe you are considering. Ensure that the safe is large enough to accommodate your firearms and any ammunition, but not so large that it becomes cumbersome to move around or store in your bedroom.

What types of locks are available for bedside gun safes?

  • Biometric locks: These locks use fingerprint recognition technology to grant access to the safe.
  • Combination locks: A numerical code must be entered to access the safe.
  • Keyed locks: A physical key is required to unlock the safe.
  • Electronic locks: These utilize a digital keypad or touchscreen to enter a code and gain access to the safe.

Can I install a bedside gun safe on my bedframe?

Yes, many bedside gun safes are designed to be mounted or secured to a bedframe for added stability and convenience. Read the manufacturer's instructions to ensure proper installation and to avoid causing damage to your bedframe or the safe.

How do I maintain my bedside gun safe?

Check the safe regularly for damage or wear and tear, and address any issues promptly. Make sure to clean the exterior and interior of the safe as needed. Keep the combination or access code for the safe in a secure location separate from the safe, and consider updating it periodically for added security.

2024.04.24 08:02 Penske_Penguin L phone policy

Yondr pouches not unlocked for the last 1 or 2 weeks of school? Wth? At least give the seniors some sort of freedom, we’ve acted like jerks the past 3 years, but at least let us loose one more time!!??
To be completely honest, they should yondr the non-honors kids and as a privilege for the honors kids, set up a strike system (once a honors kid is caught using his phone during class a set number of times, he must put his phone in pouch). It’s really sad to see the school just oppress the whole class of 2024 as a squad of jerks just because we have some severely mentally deformed kids. I get that we do crazy stuff and we do stupid stuff left and right, increased the dean referral e-file by 10 terabytes, created free entertainment circles during lunch (I kinda miss the days of dancebattles and fights suddenly started at lunch and everyone circled around). Sure, i’ll tell you about our relationship with the fire department. That is promoting 8th graders (we were in 6th then) to pull the fire alarm during the regents in hopes of completely screwing other peoples’ progress and hopefully, the class of the kid who thought of this, gets to cut a test. I also wouldn’t be surprised if our wake causes the school to start scanning kids bags. I’ve seen kids shove donuts down their pants then run from 7/11, but halsey is the first time i’ve seen kids steal 500pack matches from a hardware store then run to school, just to drop half of them on the floor. (Some kid once dropped them at lunch in front of a lunchaid and the oblivious lunchaid just said “pick them up”. It was funny how when he dropped them and he just froze for a minute to process what happened. Never saw that kid bring contraband to school again.). I bet if middle school extended to 9th grade for all, some kid would try to bring a Winchester 54 boltaction or something like that. Wouldnt be too shocked if some kid robs a US army armory and crashes into the fence during lunch in a M1 abrams. I hope i’m not giving any ideas for the school (they probably won’t catch anything in the grades after ours, we were the craziest ones besides a few previous grades). Can’t forget those 6th grade days fighting former 7th graders in our same lunch! Can’t imagine what they thought after we basically stole their lunch period in only a few weeks. <><> Back to the point now, you can probably tell why phone control via yondr isn’t really the best method to control us .. at least in the way they’re doing it now. They’re treating a minor symptom that could get large, but it can be left for some time. It’s like trying to get rid of a small and not so serious stage 1 cancer tumor, when there are other very serious stage 4’s in the same body. It just doesn’t make sense and isn’t logical. The finance part also makes me cry. The school burned AT LEAST $2500 on these pouches, and the next thing they do is beg for halloween money (they didn’t even raise 5 franklins). Then after we pressure them over this we get back “Oh guys the yondr is here to help you and your phone addiction”. Like cmon get the bullfeces out man, this is CLEARLY not helping and is backfiring more than any failed war offensive that history’s seen. First you have a group of phone addicted kids, next you have a MOB of kids going insane and thrusting their yondrs into trees. If I was a neutral party here, I’d probably prefer a school full of addicts than the latter “group”. Now i must give credit where due. Yes, I’ve seen some punks use yondr and lock up their phones. But the worse is, kids who are smart yet shady (the mafia boss type - friendly during the day in the public, underground at night) are the real players here. The school might’ve just unlocked a crapload of stuff that makes kids like this, and I’ll admit it. I’ve seen kids transition like this and I think some of them are “better” after this transition l. Call me a not-so-logical person, I don’t argue with you.
Or maybe it’s just we’re not really good people, the 6th and 7th grade seemed to have just absorbed yondr and 99% of 6th and 7th graders I’ve seen give a s*** about yondr and the school policies and stuff. Maybe it’s just us and our special give no crap mentality. In 6th grade I remember having my class (and a few, if not most others) constantly looked down at and praised as “the worst class i’ve taught”. (Looks like kids throwing matches out the window and kids drawing questionable things everywhere really got on the faculties’s nerves!)
I’ve heard sage started yondr phone controls this year too, and i’ll be brutally true, but they seem to have done a better job. Every sage kid I’ve seen gave a pretty positive review about the place, and I’ve personally toured the place and it’s not terrible. At least I didn’t see papers from 1996 and 2004 stuffed in the desks. The ropes in the gym weren’t the same ropes that were taken in a photo in 1950 of the gym (Check 1950 halsey yearbook, a picture of the ballerina team has a very familiar background). Anyways if I keep roasting halsey I’ll eventually become really sad over this comparison, so let’s end this here.
So closing this up, I’m trying to argue about this school’s policies and management. I see a lot of room for improvement, and I’d love to see the school implement this. If they can start to be a “majority says X, we do X” type, the school’s class of 2024 student satisfaction rate will shoot up dramatically. But for now, I object the school’s phone policy. It’s just stupid.

2024.04.22 07:59 CIAHerpes I worked as a park ranger in Alaska. There were inhuman things living in the vast wilderness (part 3)

“He’s gone,” I said slowly and sadly, the sound of the gunshot ringing through my head. Jansen shook her head, as if clearing it.
“We need to get out of here,” she said, “or we’ll be joining him. We have no food, no guaranteed access to water, no medical treatment… we’ll probably starve, but if anything happens, we might die much faster.” I sighed. My stomach churned and felt tight. I was so hungry that it hurt. A dull pain arose in my midsection, a constant reminder that I hadn’t eaten a meal in far too long.
Starvation, I knew, could take at least a few weeks, especially if the person had some body fat and muscle before they began. And yet, with us walking dozens of miles beneath the earth in these caves, that optimistic projection of a few weeks until dying from starvation narrowed to significantly less.
Just as bad, and perhaps worse, I had run low on ammo. I felt in my pocket for more shotgun slugs. I counted seventeen left. I would keep one for myself, in case I were facing some horrible, slow death and needed a way out. This meant that, when we were inevitably attacked, I had only sixteen shots I could fire.
These problems circled around my head over and over as we walked. Jansen spoke little. Her breathing sounded heavy, and her posture looked much more slumped than the gung-ho, straight-backed woman I had first met. It looked to me like she was giving up hope. I tried to cheer her up.
“There must be dozens of exits in this place,” I said. “Think about it. Those white mutant humanoid things, the Keepers, they’re feeding those huge red beasts which they call the Necrovores, right? At least, they’re feeding them sometimes. I have a feeling that the Necrovores could easily hunt for themselves. They’re a clear apex predator. Perhaps the Keepers just want to keep them secret, though…”
“Get to the point,” Jansen said. “What about the exits? We have seen exactly one exit and entrance to this goddamned place.”
“OK,” I said, “the Keepers have to be bringing in meat from multiple openings. It wouldn’t make sense for them to just have one opening, the one we came in, and then walk hundreds of miles under the ground. They presumably try to feed the Necrovores in this stretch of tunnel as well. So they must be going up and out, hunting or stealing food or whatever, bringing it back…”
“So, you’re saying that if we can find one and follow it, then maybe…” Jansen began, but her words cut off quickly as a shriek came from behind us. I spun, raising my already loaded gun and snapping the safety off. The sleek, black Benelli shotgun felt like an extension of my body by this point. Until I ran out of bullets, that was, and it became just an expensive metal club.
Jansen reacted as fast as myself, snapping on an LED light to give us more illumination. The white light shot out, blinding me for a moment. In comparison to the dull, purplish light of the fungus that grew on the sides and walls of the tunnels, it looked like the Sun itself.
A massive red blur disappeared down the hall from behind us, its eerie cry reminiscent of a steam-whistle receding with it. I looked around for more signs that we were being followed and stalked, but it looked empty behind us.
We kept moving forwards, and the main tunnel ended, splitting into left and right corridors, both the same size and without any indication of which one to take. By this point, I had given up any hope of seeing the kidnapped boy again. I wasn’t even sure I would survive.
We went left, and further up, the tunnel split again. We went left again, and eventually, I smelled something new: roasting meat. My stomach immediately began to flip and ache as the scent wafted through the tunnel.
“I smell food!” I said quietly, trying to keep the excitement out of my voice. “Food! Meat! Oh thank God!” We walked forward side by side, going faster by this point. Even Jansen’s eyes gleamed.
“I am so hungry, I could eat one of those Necrovores,” she said. “I bet they taste like chicken.”
“They look more like lobsters,” I said. “Nice and red, with a thick shell. I bet if you boiled them alive, and got a little melted butter…” Suddenly, I found the tunnel blocked by a Necrovore. I instinctively jumped and raised my gun, almost firing straight into it. Then I saw that it had a bullet through the center of its chest. It looked dead, laying on its back with its dark red eyes staring up at the ceiling, its branching, insectile legs curled up in a pathetic way like a dessicated house spider.
“What the fuck?” Jansen asked, her expression twisting into confusion. “Who shot this one? You?” I shrugged.
“It had to be one of us,” I said. “Perhaps the last time they attacked us, one of us hit one in the stomach and it ran off, then once it got here. it finished dying from blood loss or organ failure or whatever took it out in the end. That would be my guess.” Jansen had knelt beside the corpse of the Necrovore, moving one of its stiff legs aside to get closer to its open mouth full of hundreds of sharp teeth. I saw her feeling around for something in her pocket.
“I have to use the bathroom,” I lied, now genuinely curious as to what kind of scheme Jansen was up to. I had had a feeling, ever since I first met her, that there was something more to her being here than just a state cop wanting to tag along with rangers. I walked down the tunnel, and when it began to curve, I pretended to move against the wall and start urinating. But I was watching Jansen.
She reached into her inner coat pocket and took out a clear glass vial with a black top. Kneeling down in front of the Necrovore, I saw her dip the vial in its mouth, presumably to collect some of its bloody saliva, then screw on the top. I started walking back, and she quickly tucked the vial back into her inner coat pocket. Jansen quickly backed up a couple steps from the Necrovore, changing her facial expression into the pale, indifferent look she had worn for what felt like days now. But the real Jansen was under there. I had seen it. And she was up to something.
I debated bringing up what I had seen, confronting her directly, but I decided against it. I would confront her when the time was right, but for now, survival seemed more important. We left the Necrovore behind and began to go down the tunnel, towards the delicious smells of roasting meat that had grown much stronger now.
Up ahead, I saw a ray of light shining into the cave. My heart soared. It was real sunlight. And that meant only one thing: an exit. I was going to run up ahead when I heard Jansen click the safety of her gun off, cock the hammer and tell me two words: “Don’t move.” She was only a few feet behind me. I still had my shotgun strapped around my shoulder, and I was looking forwards, away from her. She had all the advantages. I knew that, most likely, I was doomed, and would die right here, on the floor of a cave, without my family ever knowing what happened.
“Take your shotgun and drop it on the floor, slowly,” Jansen said. “If you turn, I will shoot you.” I did as she asked. “Keep looking away from me. Now, I saw your expression when you first saw the Necrovores at the entrance of the cave, and you didn’t even look the slightest bit surprised. So I’m going to ask you one question, and one question only: have you seen them before?”
“Yes,” I said softly, remembering.
***
About half a year before the events with Ace and Jansen in the cave, I had been alone in my log cabin. I made a full pot of coffee, cleaned and oiled my guns, and decided to go shooting. After pouring a huge thermos of boiling hot coffee, I grabbed my Winchester thirty-thirty, a beautiful gun with a polished walnut stock. I headed outside, setting up targets to shoot. I had gone to the dump, grabbed an old air conditioner and a metal trash lid, and I set these up at different distances.
Because this was summer, the air smelled fresh and clean. The night time had come, and with no pollution and no clouds, all of the stars in the sky seemed to radiate a bright, pure light. It seemed as if blue flames shot out of my gun for a split second when I fired in the darkness. I’d instantly hear the ping of metal as it connected with one of my targets.
I had gone on this way for a while when the crying and shrieking had started from the woods nearby. No one lived near me, so I instantly went on high alert. For a few seconds, I tried to convince myself it was just a fox or a fishercat, but I had heard both, and it sounded different. This seemed much louder, and almost synthetic. I reloaded my gun, stuffing an extra clip into my pocket, and began to follow the sounds.
Then I heard a gunshot, then two, and the screaming grew louder. I sprinted ahead, dodging roots and rocks, moving between the evergreen and birch trees growing thick in this part of the forest. The insects had mostly fallen silent after the gunshots, and the wilderness had an eerie, silent quality to it now- as if everything in these woods were staying quiet so they could hear what happens next.
And then I caught glimpses of them: two men and a red, insectile beast that stood over eight feet tall. The men looked panicked and certainly had no sharpshooting skills. They had emptied their clips from the look of it, but I only saw a couple small trails of blood on the insectoid creature, namely from shallow grooves that ran over the side of its chest and above one shoulder. It moved forward in a rage and used its razor-sharp fingers to slit the nearest man’s throat. Then it moved on to the next man.
I was running as fast as I could, trying to get within range to save the man’s life. In horror, I watched the beast jerk its head forward, its mouth opening wide as its jaw disengaged, and bit off the surviving man’s legs at the knees. I screamed, “No!” and stopped running, looking through the site and opening fire. I hit the red creature a few times in the head, right between its dark, staring eyes, and after a few seconds of screaming, it fell back.
I ran forwards, going to the injured man and shaking him.
“What was that?” I yelled at him. “Who are you? What are you doing?” He shook his head slowly, as if trying to clear it, then looked up at me.
“My name is Konstantin,” he said in a thick accent. “I am an Agent for the FSB, an agent for my home country of Russia. I would not normally tell you this, but I am dying.
“That creature-” he pointed at the huge red thing lying dead on the ground, “has a bacteria in its body that has immense potential as a biological warfare agent. It can cause septic shock in any human, and most antibiotics have no effect. A millionth of a drop of what that creature has could kill a man, and when the postmortem is done, it will look like just a runaway bacterial infection, something anyone could get.”
“Thanks,” I said, putting a bullet into his head. Then I buried the two Russian agents and the red creature in a single mass grave. The soft Alaskan soil covered them all quickly.
No one would have access to any biological weapons from these creatures while I was alive- not if I could help it.
***
I told all this to Jansen, if that was her real name, trying to kill as much time as possible. My only hope was for some deus ex machina, some sort of fortuitous savior who could stop her. Because, in my heart, I knew she would not let me live, no more than the Russian FSB agents would have let me live if they had succeeded in killing the Necrovore and knew I had seen.
Jansen went pale, her face turning into a deep scowl. And then she nodded.
“So, the Russians somehow heard about the Necrovores,” she said to herself. “And now they want to take samples, just like us.”
“Who are you with, really?” I asked. “I know you’re no cop.”
“I’m CIA,” she said, smiling wide. “I really do feel bad about this, but orders are orders. I was explicitly told that no witnesses should survive. The CIA wishes to take some Necrovores alive and see if they can’t be used as biological weapons in themselves, if released in an enemy country for instance, but for now, even just the extremely powerful bacterium is enough. Goodbye, and I’m sorry.” I closed my eyes, breathing fast. My time was up. I knew I would die now, shot in the back like a common criminal.
But no shot came. Instead, I heard a surprised grunt of pain, and then a horrible gurgling, spitting sound started. I turned my head slowly, wondering if this was some sort of trick, and then I saw it: Jansen stood there with her throat cut, a fountain of blood pouring down the front of her clothes. Her eyes looked amazed and surprised, as if she had just seen the world’s greatest magic trick. And then she fell, her body landing hard on the stone floor of the tunnel.
Behind her, I saw Ace, his bloody folding knife held tightly in one trembling hand. His other hand looked black and dead, the fingers twisted strangely.
“Oh my God, Ace!” I yelled in shock and bliss. “I thought you were dead!”
“Soon,” he said, falling himself on top of Jansen’s body. I ran over to him, the smell of the rotting meat of his arm covering the entire area, but I was so happy I could hug him.
“How?” I asked Ace. He looked up at me, his eyes watery and unfocused, and then he vomited up a stream of watered-down blood. It fell on the hand of Jansen.
“I… was attacked…” Ace said. “That one single slug, I had to use it to shoot a Necrovore that tried to ambush me immediately after you guys left. And then someone started cooking, and I smelled meat. I had made my way slowly in the direction of the smell, and found one of those white mutants roasting a deer on a fire. They had stores of food in one room- mushrooms, ferns, meat and nuts- and it was huge. I hid behind a pile of deer skins, eating as much as I could, waiting to die, sipping some water that trickled down from the ceiling.
“And then I heard you and Jansen nearby. Your voices echoed. You scared away the white mutant, the Keeper, who was cooking. I heard Jansen’s confession. And I killed her.” He pointed to his arm. The black and purple rot had spread past his shoulder and begun to eat into his chest. “I’m almost done. Almost done. Will you give me peace? Will you do the coup de grace?” I nodded, putting a slug in the chamber. Ace looked up at me, his eyes tearing up, his face reflecting the sadness and uncertainty deep within him.
“I’ll tell everyone of your bravery, old friend,” I said, pointing the gun at his forehead and pulling the trigger. There was a splash of blood and gore, and then I was alone.
I took all the ammo and the gun off of Jansen, which gave me 19 rounds for the Ruger. And then I began to walk towards the sunlight I still saw streaming across the hallway, praying for an exit.
I turned into the room and saw what Ace had seen. A deer roasted over a dying fire, a pile of edible mushrooms on a deerskin in the corner, a pile of fiddleheads next to it, and a variety of edible herbs from the forest on the other side. Some dried, jerky-like meat also lay on a huge, flat rock under the Sun. I saw with horrifying disappointment that the light came from a small hole in the ceiling, one where the smoke from the fire could escape. There was no way to get up there, unless I could transform into a spider, and the hole seemed too small to crawl through anyway.
But it still gave me hope. It meant I wasn’t thousands of feet below the ground, and that a real exit might be right around the corner. If only there weren’t so many branching caverns to get lost in, I thought.
I ate well, and then took a deerskin and began to wrap up as much food as I could carry. It was undoubtedly the best meal of my life. After starving in the darkness for so long, even the most tasteless food seemed like ambrosia.
I tied the deerskin to a long stick, like a hobo going off to a train, and, balancing it on my shoulder, went off by myself.
I wandered for weeks, eating as little as I could from the food. I found another “kitchen” in which the Keepers stored food on the second week, with elk meat and more dried mushrooms stored there, and took what I could. Cold mountain streams flowed through the caves periodically, giving me water to drink. And yet, I found no exit, and though I caught glimpses of white hands or red shells behind me, the enemy seemed happy to simply stalk me and watch. Until I neared the end, that was.
It came suddenly, a huge archway up ahead past a bend in the cavern. Because it was night, I didn’t even realize at first what I saw. But the light of the Moon looked so different from the dull, purplish light of the mold that I realized with ecstasy that I must be close to the end of this eternal cave.
I started to run, and that was when the ambush was sprung.
They came from everywhere, Keepers in coarse brown robes and flashes of red from the Necrovores surrounding me. The Necrovores spat and hissed while the Keepers rambled in their strange, high-pitched yammering language. I dropped my remaining food on the ground, seeing it spill out on the floor in slow motion as my adrenaline spiked, then in a blur, I had the Ruger .454 in my hand.
I ran towards the door, emptying all six rounds at those Necrovores closest to me. I aimed for their dark red eyes, a technique which had worked well in previous battles. I tried to clog the tunnel with the corpses of those nearest, but the smaller ones behind writhed and wriggled past the twisted, bleeding bodies of their siblings.
I was almost at the exit, however. I could feel the fresh air by this point. I felt hands grabbing at me from behind. Grabbing the Ruger, I began to pistol-whip anything and everything near, eventually feeling the hands release after a couple seconds. One of them grabbed at the pistol and it fell to the floor. I had no time to pick it up.
Now I had Necrovores on each side of me, and they moved in a blur, their legs skittering forwards as their bodies twisted from side to side in hungry anticipation. Their mouths opened wide and their claws began to whip through the air as I grabbed the shotgun, opening fire.
The first one, I blew off its hand. It shrieked, looking down as blood pumped out of the stump, then began to backpedal, knocking the Necrovore behind it down.
The second one jumped straight at me, its huge maw opened wide. I could see down its sleek, wet throat. It aimed at my face, and I began to shoot blindly, hitting its open mouth three or four times. It fell to the floor a few inches from me, and I heard a click as the shotgun ran out of ammo.
As I ran, I put my last bullets in the shotgun, shooting behind me and hitting a couple of those who would kill me. I felt in my pocket, and realized I was now down to two bullets.
I sprinted through the exit, grabbing for the very last rounds. I saw those creatures coming through the stone door, and, after slamming a slug in the chamber, dropped a large Necrovore at the threshold. It fell noiselessly, blocking the door to those behind him, and I ran.
I ran for what felt like hours, until I saw a small curl of smoke up ahead. I found a small Eskimo village on the coastline. An elderly woman in a little shack opened the door. Someone in the town had a ham radio, which they used to call for help and get me evacuated. When I first got back and saw myself in a mirror, I was horrified. I had lost many pounds and looked thin and frail, my cheekbones sharp and angular, my haunted eyes sunken deep in my skeletal face. I could count every rib on my chest, and my legs looked like sticks covered in skin.
I didn’t tell my boss the whole story, or anyone else, for that matter. I had been missing for weeks, and mostly said I got lost in the tunnels when looking for a missing boy, which was true, to an extent.
I did not tell them about the Necrovores, however, or the brave actions of Ace that saved my life. That was a story I kept to myself- until now.

2024.04.20 04:48 mrmerkur Guys, i think i messed up.

I purchased a bunch of Mohawk LVP from Costco, trying to DIY 2 bed rooms and the walk in closet in my master. The flooring was kinda fighting me, thats when I realized my floor wasn’t flat. So, i bought 200 pounds of self leveling cement from Lowes and i think all i managed to do was make things worse. Mixing per the instructions on the bucket made the concrete really thick and set up way too fast, so i was trying to experiment and add more water while also trying to get it down and now i have this as a floor…
That “island” to the right is low. My individual pours are dead on level in relation to them selves, but not to each other. What should I do? Mix up some more really wet and hope it flows well? Rent an electric flooring grinder and knock it all down? Burn down the house?
TLDR, i made a mess of self leveling concrete how should i fix it

Hello all! With the final conclusion of the Giant Guns stories, I figured it easy to just put them all in one place in order to make it better to find them all. This is just a full repost of all my Giant Guns stories in one place for ease of use. This will be in two parts because of Reddits character limit. Please Enjoy :)
(Part 1 - YOU ARE HERE)
)Part 2 - https://www.reddit.com/HFY/comments/1c7pgid/the_complete_chronicle_of_humans_and_their_giant/ )
***********************
Another Giant Gun...
They built a giant gun. Again. But no, this was different. Not like the other giant gun they built, or that other giant gun they built that other time. No... this was an actual giant gun. I stood on the concrete slab supporting the strange contraption, this one sitting on a human garden world. I held my head in my hands as they proudly stood in front of me with smiles on their faces.
"WHY?" I asked simply.
"Why not?" Came the simple response and I was led on a tour.
Under most circumstances, we would simply be inspecting the planet's defenses, making sure they simply were up to code and couldn't shatter a planet accidentally ten thousand years from now. To make sure their targeting systems would not miss. To make sure, they couldn't cause any severe collateral damage. Humans were a different breed of beast... they made absolutely sure that every single gun could shatter a star in half, and never miss.
This? This was nothing but stupid. Even for humans, this was a dumb concept, a dumb execution, just plain fucking DUMB. I was shown around the structure and they pointed at the 'stock' of the giant gun.
I simply looked at him and asked why. He simply smiled and said why not?
He showed me the giant mechanical arm they crafted out of a starship factory assembly mechanism. He showed me how it pulled the giant guns trigger and performed various loading actions, including a demonstration of how it was used to remove a jam.
I looked at him and asked him why. He smiled and simply said why not?
He showed me the way the barrel was made and how the barrel had to be replaced after so many shells were fired. He told me the shells it fired were 30 inch high explosive shells. He showed me the firing mechanism and explained how it worked.
I looked at him and asked him why. He simply smiled and said why not?
He then showed me the loading mechanism, an obscenely complicated gigantic mechanical arm mimicking the movements of a human arm as they demonstrated the way the gun was loaded. A giant 'clip' of ammunition weighing hundreds of tons is lifted a quarter mile off the ground and slid into a chamber on top of the gun. The bullets are then pushed down by the giant mechanical finger and the weapon is loaded as the three ton 'clip' is discarded to the left.
I looked at him and asked "Whyyy?" He simply looked at me and said 'WhY NoT?"
He then handed me the button to fire with a smile. "If you tell me you don't want to see this thing fire... I will look you in your eyes and call you a LIAR."
I sighed, I once again asked why, only to receive a smile as I pushed the button. The giant gun fired and the massive amount of recoil from the 30 inch shell made the whole platform shudder, and the gun moved back about thirty feet before the catching mechanism forced it forward again.
In quick succession the gun fired 7 more shells, the process repeating to the happy sounds of every human in the area squealing with delight. The last shell fired let out a sudden loud metallic noise like a giant sword being hit by a giant tuning fork. The empty casings from the shells blasted out the right side and dented the ground they landed on, pooling in a huge hole in the ground where a massive 60 ton crane was waiting to collect them.
I looked at him and asked him why. He simply smiled back and said "WHY NOT?" At an annoyingly loud volume.
I watched with morbid fascination as the enormous monstrosity was loaded again with the giant mechanical arm. I held my head in my hands, out of sheer despair at this point, as I looked at the amount of shells that were ready to fire.
I heard a human voice appear behind me. "WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON HERE!?"
It was the human Admiral, the commander of the military garrison in charge of the sector. He took one look at the weapon in front of him and held his head in his hands as well. He stayed there for a few moments and let out a silly, annoyed chuckle.
"Did... did you seriously... SERIOUSLY, build a giant thirty inch M1 Garand?" He asked them as he looked at me.
"YUP!!" They all smiled at him, as if they genuinely accomplished something important.
He stood beside me as I slowly lowered my head. I looked at him, disappointed. I sighed, and officially gave up, slowly raising my hand to let him have a turn with the big red button.
Like an excited child he pressed it and the weapon went through its firing sequence, ending with a grand and glorious ping. Once again, the assembled crowd cheered with glee, letting out a might "OORAH" as the gun 'pinged'.
One final time I asked them why... they simply responded "Why not?!!!"

Yet Another Giant Gun...
Why did they do this? It was bad enough they did it the first time I was here, now they did it again. Only a lot worse this time. A LOT worse. Apparently it needs to be a galactic law to never, EVER leave a human engineer alone for too great a period of time. Especially when they have access to a great quantity of resources.
Apparently they also learned from the mistakes of their last 'attempt' and made it so this one can actually do its job. Effectively. Which by itself is both terrifying and also inspiring. No I take that back, its just fucking terrifying. I often wonder why the Gods created humanity. Was it to test us? Was it to laugh at us?
Since I started this commission I often find myself conflicted with a multitude of emotions. Fear. Anger. Annoyance. Irritation. Awe. Shock. Amazement. I feel all this, all the time, every time I deal with these insane apes. I am both thankful a species with such incredible capability is our ally, and infuriated that THIS is what they do with that capability.
I looked at the navy admiral next to me. He was just as done as I was this time.
"Guys... You can't tell me you seriously have THIS much extra crap to spare to build these." He said, still holding his head in his hands.
"Well yeah we do. You'd be surprised what you can do with a huge scrapyard. Besides, its hand-me-down mats from derelicts and ancient ships. It isn't like we're spending billions of credits for it." One of the engineers proudly said, still holding a wrench.
"But that doesn't mean-You know what... Screw it. Is this one actually practical? Especially at this size. And why two of them?" He asked.
"Uhhh... Yes it is, yes it is, and... because reasons." The engineer replied with a smirk.
"Care to elaborate on those reasons?" I asked, finally breaking from my momentary despair.
"Uhh... Because... reasons..." He replied sheepishly and backed away.
The admiral looked at me. "So... you want the first shot, or should I?" He said as he held up the big red button.
I sighed, rolled my eyes and pressed the big red button. I pressed it for three seconds and it let out a sequence of five ridiculously rapid bursts. Each burst, firing ten of its 7.92 inch shells. The side of the gun had a belt of several thousand of the damn things that the gun greedily sucked up. A massive pit nearby dug almost a half mile deep caught every shell that it expended, each one hitting the ground with a hollow clang.
The gun itself let off a sound that was more a deafening constant roar of fire, rather than the singular explosions and massive booms of the first one they built. The firing platform they built almost perfectly absorbed the recoil the gun had, a combination of both its giant bipod stabilizing it, and a massive mechanism holding it firmly in place. It was a machine gun from back in the day. Apparently a gun that was responsible for the most casualties in a single battle. Now I understand why.
The atmosphere warped and twisted as the gun fired its shells, the shockwaves from the barrel making the atmosphere angrily twist and swirl around it. I pressed the button solid for twenty seconds. It fired full auto this time, letting out a massive blast of its shells. Too many, too fast to even count. Twenty seconds of deafening merciless fire. By the time it stopped firing, the pit for the shell casings was half full.
One of the engineers approached us and smiled. "Cool huh? MG42. Hitlers Buzzsaw." He said with a smirk.
"Well... yeah. How often does the mechanism and barrel need to be replaced with this one?" I asked, aware my ears were now ringing ever so slightly.
"Never. Can handle a full two thousand round full auto fire. We have a slightly more sophisticated and less flashy way of working with this one. Simple load and fire, usually box mag, sometimes the belts get stuck. Can pretty much use it anywhere we need to. The barrel and majority of the assembly is made of nanocarbon. Which... is starship material. Which means this thing can handle almost anything. AND.... check this out." He said and stepped back.
He depressed some levers and set some switches on a control panel. The entire assembly moved up by about twenty feet, the platform holding the gun swiveled left twenty degrees, then moved up, aiming almost completely upwards.
"This one can actually be used for planetary defense. Unlike the Garand we built. This one can actually fire at ships. And we actually tested it. On a Telastarin dreadnought." He said with a sly smirk.
I snapped my neck to look at him so hard I swear I broke something. "YOU WHAT!?" Myself and the admiral both said at once.
He simply chuckled and pressed a button. A television screen appeared out of the platform and played a video. While the humans were busy calibrating their giant gun a Telastarin dreadnought, one of the largest and most heavily armed warships of the Twelve Races, appeared and attempted to take the star system.
They didn't get very far as the gun fired a full burst of seven hundred rounds in quick succession, a veritable beam of solid projectiles coming from the planet's surface. Any ship... ANY ship, of ANY kind, would fail under those conditions. I watched in terrified awe as the dreadnought started being pelted by a stream of hundreds of projectiles. The shields failed and the armor was now denting, paint scratching and turrets being blown apart by explosive shell impacts.
The television also allowed audio, and I cradled my head in my hands at the sounds of the crew panicking, believing they were under attack by a massive fleet. When the stream of bullets finally stopped, the dreadnought was held together by wishes and good vibes, barely functioning as the ship captain opened his comms and begged surrender.
"We erm... well we were going to just turn it into swiss cheese but we uh... kinda ran out of ammo. That was the first firing test. It did pretty good but we.... fixed a few errors and made it better." The engineer said, smirking.
"Crazy damned humans..." A gravelly voice nearby said. The admiral and I looked to our right, now noticing the Telastarin Admiral Kohokuru flanked by two Legionnaires, his four hands in cuffs.
"Kohokuru... God... this is embarrassing." I said to him with a definite smirk.
"Gods above please tell me they didnt do anything more than this! I don't think the galaxy can stand it!" I yelled out in frustration.
"So... does that mean you don't want to see the 8 inch GAU-80 CIWS we built then?"
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Whats With All The Giant Guns?
If I did not directly ask for it, I would be holding my head in my hands and asking the Gods why. The crazy bastards did it again. Only worse. A lot worse. Thankfully this time it was actually a request. The Emperor however was not so... enthusiastic as I was. He stood next to me, his concubines hiding behind his regal form in terror at the human starship sitting in drydock in front of us.
It looked like a... Well... since it is likely humans will read this, the ship is a slightly fancier version of the Imperial Gladiator Class cruiser. Only in the standard Terran Union color pattern and ballistic or railguns instead of... what were those called... Turbolasers? Doesn't matter. They probably have those turbolaser things around somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised at this point.
Crazy apes.
This one was called a 'Sentry Cruiser' and the humans who built it, called it a 'giant CIWS turret' with starship engines. From what I can tell the damn thing was majority engines and ammunition, with a crew of seven people. SEVEN. For a CRUISER. A ship class normally reserved for crews of up to 500 members, this damn thing only has seven. Because, and I quote:
"If we tried to increase the crew quantity, we'd get rid of too much ammunition."
The Emperor looked at me and then the ship with a marked absence of patience. I showed him the giant 'M1 Garand.' His expression went from calm and stoic to 'what the actual hell...'. I then showed him the giant MG42. Then handed him an enemy Fleet Admiral and the remains of one of the deadliest ships in the galaxy turned into 'swiss cheese'. His expression became a mixture of terror and rage. I'm not sure which was more prominent.
Now here we stand in front of a giant turret with engines, ready for it to face its first test fire. The emperor's expression now a mixture of both a loss of patience, and a loss of temper. The human Engineers, hell even the human Admiral were staring at the glass salivating at the sight of this ridiculous beast. Mounted on the front, directly in the ship's front portion where there should be a hangar, apparently, was a gun with 8 barrels.
I looked to my left, and the sight of an Engineer with an absurdly terrifying smile standing just a bit too close made me jump out of my socks. Yes, we Eridani DO wear socks humans, stop giggling. I know you are!
I regained my footing and growled angrily at the overly excited ape. "Hey dude hey... nice huh?" He let out a disturbing laugh. "This is the GAU 80, an 8 inch GAU 8 CIWS. Swivel mounted directly to the front for eight degree motion."
I just looked at him, put my head in my hands and said: "WHYYYY?"
"Well you DID ask for a Heavy defense satellite! What the hell did you want? You explicitly stated you wanted a practical, self-sustaining variant of a defensive satellite that you could use to defend your planets or critical locations. So we delivered." He said.
"HOW IN THE BLAZING-" The rest of my statement was purposefully censored by my translation unit.
My rant continued for a full ten minutes, most of it being expletives that not even humanities Barbarian ancestors would have used. When my rant ended I looked around to find blushing cheeks, jaws on floors and the Emperor himself looking at me in absolute disgust. I looked around the room and held out my hands.
"WELL IT IS STILL TRUE!!!" I exclaimed angrily and impatiently tapped my foot on the floor with my arms crossed.
"Does this thing.... even work? I mean... how can it work?" The Emperor asked.
"Yeah. She's been test fired before. Only for a few seconds. She's built with a prototype Inertial Dampening Drive so she can absorb the recoil." The engineer said, pointing at small domes on the ship's hull.
"I'm sorry, what? Inertial Dampeners?" I said.
"Well yeah of course. 8 inch shells with a 5000 RPM fire rate, we kinda have to have some dampening system to reduce and absorb recoil. That thing has some seeeeerious recoil. So we have to install Inertia Control systems so it doesn't fly backwards when it fires." He explained calmly.
Both myself and the Emperor were wide-eyed now with the prospect of humanity successfully creating Inertia Dampening systems for large scale warships... And also terrified that THIS shit is what they did with them.
"Out of curiosity... these.. Inertia Dampeners? Have they been tested yet?" I asked.
"Well yeah. Every starship in the fleet has them. I think it's like... Gen 5 tech so far. They're mostly used for general purpose ship movements. Normally we wouldn't use them for this but... big dakka requires a big bipod. That's basically what the Inertia Dampening Coils are on this thing. Recoil absorption. It's essentially a giant Bipod and stock just... really really fancy." He said simply and used his holo screen to show us an older technical blueprint of one.
Both the Emperor and I took a deep frustrated breath.
"Okay... We will talk to you about the dampeners later. First… Let's see this thing work. Does it have a target? Or are you just shooting into space?" The Emperor asked.
"Oh hell no we got a target. These aren't just standard chemical shell casing, it's a full rotary Gauss assisted network. Its a Gau 80 inch rotary gauss cannon." He said.
We both looked at him like we'd just seen a ghost.
"Don't give me that look." He said, scowled at us and walked away to the control terminal.
"So how this works is a Gauss assisted chemical projectile system. First, a mechanism sends a jolt of energy through a standard Gauss capacitor array in each barrel, then starts the spin. The chemical propellant ignites in the chamber then gets sent out into the barrel. The Gauss effect then propels the projectile to five percent the speed of light. The small 8 inch slug hits a target with a force of about 8 kilotons of force." The engineer explained as he readied the firing sequence.
"Wait... kilotons... Aren't those the measurements for nuclear detonations!?" The emperor squealed in horror.
"Well... yeah." The engineer just smiled at us like it was nothing. "Eight kilotons isn't much to speak of to be frank. Most of our ships have warheads in the twenty five to thirty five megaton yields. That's just the middle distance though. The T.S.U. New York carries a one eighty five megaton fusion warhead in its missile bay." He said simply and readied the console.
All of the life and soul we had drained from both myself and the Emperor as our skin went pale. The Emperor and I shared a look of petrified fear and made a mental note to visit a Temple to pray... to whoever we could think of at the time. Even Rakandus The God Of War would be scared right now. We didn't know exactly who to pray to.
"Well then. Here we go. Primary Target, the Lumos Asteroid Field. Worthless for mining but great target practice for miners. Pretty good choice. And... Done. Okay." The Engineer said as he typed on the console.
"This is Scabbard, ready for fire mission." The radio chimed.
"Scabbard this is Coldheart, firemission clear, strike location sent. Burst fire, three seconds. Three volleys. How copy?" The engineer spoke.
A few seconds of silence passed. "Copy fire mission location 2-2-A-3 point 0-2-3-B, volley shot three seconds, sweep shot by two degrees, fire for effect." Came the reply.
The ship fired itself up and we all felt the massive beast clunk loose from its moorings. It moved a few hundred meters forward out of its dock and aimed itself at an asteroid field. The barrel mechanism spun itself to ridiculous speed, a perfect cylinder of whirring metal could be seen. The ship's rear engines fired to full throttle with the gun as they let loose the gates of hell. It was a solid beam of projectiles. If I didn't know better, I would swear this was a laser cannon.
It fired three bursts in rapid succession, the ship moving barely inches as it spat out condensed metal alloy fragments. It suddenly stopped. "Winchester. Twelve seconds."
Thirteen seconds later...
There was no asteroid field.
They erased it. Out of existence. A bright flash of nuclear light and then there was nothing but the cold mildly irradiated empty void. Myself, the Emperor and his entire retinue then proceeded to pass out.
The next few months were spent in secret talking to the Galactic Council. Upon hearing the yield of their most powerful nuclear weapons, and the fact that every human ship in the void had at least one warhead, the Saranais' longest and most ancient enemy, the Rakandi, surrendered to the Terran Union. If the Saranai did not already have a Treaty of Alliance with the humans, we likely would have surrendered too.
And before you ask, yes, I was allowed to push the big button after I regained consciousness.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
PLEASE STOP MAKING GIANT GUNS!!!
Bolts of plasma and laser fire darted across the void of space above one of our colony worlds as our Grand Fleet fought hard to defend an alliance colony world. A minor civil war within the Taranian Imperium resulting in a full blown galactic conflict. If an ally of the Eridani were not directly on their doorstep, this would be quite enlightening to see. I have always hated war, maybe that's why humans make me so angry. Or nervous. Or... whatever those emotions are.
I looked at my fleet admiral who was concentrating so heavily on tactical readouts, ordering retreats for badly damaged ships, trying to flank the enemy fleet or becoming angry when an attempted surprise attack failed. Space combat is slow, lumbering, with ships in the several hundreds of thousands of tons each, space combat can last weeks with enough ships. And here, the Gateway to the Core, there were THOUSANDS.
If I wasn't so scared, I would be in awe at the sheer numbers of warships present. The Taranian Imperium were secretly building thousands of warships behind the scenes for decades. Now they were unleashing all of it here. A bright flash of light towards the fleet's frontline marks the final moments of a Saranai Battlecruiser. The Fleet Admirals tone grows more desperate, more calculated. We have assembled every Council warship we could find in short notice, some of the best in fact. But the sheer volume of enemy fire is overwhelming us. Every Taranian ship we destroy is replaced by three more.
Everybody knows it. We can't hold for much longer. I look at the Fleet Admiral who responds in kind. The expression on his face says everything. We won't win this fight.
"My Lord Admiral! Capital Class Starship incoming! Reactor signatures say it's a human warship!" One of the crew yelled out from his pulpit on the bridge.
"Humans? They aren't a part of this conflict! They aren't even on the Council! What are they doing here?" The Admiral barked out in anger.
Too late to say anything about it, a human warship suddenly decelerated into the system. Fur suddenly stood on end. Paw pads began to copiously sweat. Spines began to rattle. Jaws hit the floor. Ink stained the walls. Brains suddenly stopped working.
The ship that warped into the system was a massive megabeast many times the size of our largest Dreadnought. It flew with the speed of a large cruiser and quickly logged itself into our IFF system. It was beyond absurd how many weapons were coating that thing's hull. It was a ship design I recognized, however, it was the shape of a ... I believe the ship's name was a 'Venator' Class cruiser. Although... very highly modified of course. When working with humans I was required to visit many of their works of fiction in order to understand their mindset. I never did understand, of course, but the so-called 'Star Wars Universe' was an entertaining piece of media.
The Admiral was happy about the reinforcements and quickly rallied his forces together, transmitting the necessary files to the humans after registering them with our ident system. I took a good look at that ship. Then I held my head in my hands out of sheer despair.
"Oh Gods no... NO GODS WHY!? THEY'RE GOING TO FIRE THAT DAMN THING!?" I yelled aloud in absolute despair.
The Admiral looked at me quizzically. "What are you talking about? They're here to help us! Be thankful!"
I could not say anything except let out a loud cry of frustrated despair and slap my head with the palm of my hands, repeatedly screaming "WHY WHY WHY WHYYYY" as I did.
The Admiral called for a medical crew as I dropped to my knees and began to pray fervently that the Taranian Empire would surrender as fast as possible. I begged and pleaded to whatever God could hear me to get through to the damn humans and ask them to NOT continue.
It was... too late.
The large black paint coated warship stood out of the firing range of the Taranian Fleet and aimed its front end at the enemy. The ship began to defend itself from errant laser and missile fire, one of its huge battleship cannon turrets mounted on the top swatting a battlecruiser out of the sky like an insignificant insect. Any enemy ship foolish enough to think it stands a chance is vaporized by any one of a hundred capital ship weapons or overpowered high velocity point defense turrets.
The engines of the ship lit up like a massive firestorm as the reactor inside it roared to life. The ship's trim, exterior and massive amounts of internal piping suddenly became visible like rivers of ghostly neon flickering and flowing across its hull. A wave of energy coalesced around the ship, flowing through the pipes and cables across its massive hull, all converging towards a central point under the bridge.
The spinal mounted cannon, that easily took up half of the ships near ten kilometer length, marked the presence of a massive Railgun array of some kind. I became a bit sick to my stomach on the notion of how large a slug would be used in that thing, and having seen human weaponry before... I began to vomit profusely. The giant Garand... the Giant MG42. The giant CIWS. And now... now this... NOW THIS!?
The entirety of space, the literal Void itself, suddenly warped as if an eldritch demon screamed in agony as the weapon fired. In my agitated state my mind slowed such that I could literally see the blistering tendrils of a beast of the unknown reaching out in agony toward the universe. The guin fired, and the void itself seemed to shudder at the action. The speed that rail slug was fired defied the very laws of nature itself, warping the very fabric of reality around it within a split of a split millisecond. It blew past the entire fleet, straight through the formation and for a few short moments, there was nothing.
The wave of death suddenly began in parts. Any ship within five kilometers of the slugs passage through reality suffered being torn apart, being ripped to pieces or being pixelated into oblivion, then disintegrating. Any ship within the five to fifteen kilometer range suffered catastrophic malfunctions and engine failures. Turrets detonating, reactors exploding, ship hulls warping to catastrophic failure or other ships simply ceasing to function owing to disastrous EMP overload.
Any ship within fifteen to fifty kilometers escaped complete destruction but suffered severe hull breaches, reactor malfunctions or severe electronic disruption. A bright, blinding flash microseconds later marked the end of the slug's existence as a void pulse sent it out of the universe, disintegrating it among the cosmic dust of the universe so it would trouble no one after its deadly journey.
Half of the Taranian Fleet was damaged, destroyed, or simply gone. This entire sequence took less than seven seconds to complete.
Seven.
Damned.
Seconds.
I shoved the medical crew out of my way and pulled the poor unfortunate communications officer out of his seat. I sat down, grabbing the headset. Still in tears from a massive mixture of emotions, from frustration and despair to outright terrified fear, I opened every comms channel I could find and began to desperately scream a message.
"Humans! Please listen! Please! We surrender! We surrender! We will do anything! ANYTHING! PLEASE JUST STOP MAKING GIANT GUNS!" I pleaded into the radio.
I continued to beg and plead, repeating this same message for as long as I could before I passed out from exhaustion.
Many days later, pretty much half the galaxy were in negotiations with the humans, threatening sanctions and other things, or outright begging them to stop their crazy antics. The Saranai on the other hand were all in temples in drug addled sermons, begging whatever Gods we could find to explain to us why they created humans.
The only answer we ever got was psychotic laughter. Just endless, happy, giggling psychotic laughing.

2024.04.18 23:20 ImJustPassingByThere [Pc][2000-2013] Flash game - Bar fight - Guy with jeans, sunglasses, black-tshirt

So it's a pixel art flash game that I have fairly vivid memories of, but I just can't seem to recall the name. The whole game takes place inside a bar, starting in the basement and gradually moving up through the floors. The intro scene introduces your character, a man wearing, if I remember correctly, jeans, a black t-shirt, and sunglasses with a sort of mohawk hairstyle, sitting on a couch smiling with women on either side. The twist is that they've been kidnapped by the mafia boss, who is a big man with black glasses and, if I recall correctly, a red shirt. Throughout your journey in the bar, you'll face these men armed with pistols as well. As for the decor, I just remember there were jukeboxes that you could break, I think. The final boss was obviously the mafia boss, whom you have to face in a confined space. He can shoot straight at you or unleash a barrage of bullets around him that you must dodge. And at the end of the game, when you win, I imagine you rescue the girls and your character is happily chilling with each of them by his side.
Im 18 yo, and played this during my 5-8 years old (something like that i dont remember)

2024.04.18 05:57 tonefour Mohawk Vinyl Flooring from Costco After 4 Years - OK to Meh due to defect

Back in March 2020, I spent close to $1,400 on Mohawk Vinyl Floor Planks from Costco to refloor my Living & Bedrooms. It was a DIY job, flattened the floors to tolerance, laid down cork underlayment and left ample space for expansion/contraction. To this day, there had been no bubbling, airgaps, squeaking or nightmare shifting that I see warned when installations are bad.
But this last year, I did notice every plank is warping individually, creating an upward crown in the center of the plank, and valleys at every joint. It's very noticeable when I vacuum; like going through a whoops or moguls. I doubt there is any recourse with the company, and for overall $2500 and my own labor, I can probably live with it for another 10-15 years, as long as this is the only problem I'm experiencing.
I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this warp/bowing of the planks. I haven't found anything related this in my google searches. Attached are pictures of scrap pieces I've kept which show the exact same plank warping and some of the finished product (not recent). Thanks for reading/replying!

2024.04.18 01:53 yeedidit Mohawk SolidTech Plus- Poppy Reserve- Sanibel

My husband and I have been searching for the perfect LVP for our new house and think we finally decided on Mohawk SolidTech Plus-Poppy Reserve in Sanibel. The only thing that concerns us is the sample looks different than all of the online photos and also from a Tik Tok that we found of it being installed. We love it, but wish we could see it on a larger scale than just a sample piece. Does anybody have any photos of this flooring actually installed? It is impossible to find any real life photos of it!
