2024.05.21 22:47 Help_Needer94 Tongue cause nose and head pressure?

Hi there,
I have overcrowding and inwardly slanted teeth, with an inevitably narrow palate to boot. As such, I have never had tongue space in the roof of my mouth for my tongue, which has a rather thick tie.
I had braces on remedy this - but took them off after six months as I began experiencing debilitating symptoms and no one had an answer for what was going on.
These symptoms include: feeling like I’m suffocating, pressure in my nose and head, swollen nasal passages, vision problems, a sense of cranial instability, and dysautonomia.
Before their removal, the braces did open up a bit of space for the tongue to sit in the roof more and it does now sit on the roof by itself - which it never would or could before. My jaw has also seeming moved and my bite has changed.
However, as I have a high palate, I think the tongue is being sucked all the way up and blocking the nasal passage which may be what is causing this issue. As my teeth moved back a bit quickly after removing the braces, I feel this space lessened and the symptoms have been slightly less severe for the past couple of weeks - but always feel like they’re threatening to get worse.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it feasible that my tongue is doing all this?
Thanks,

2024.05.21 22:42 thomasp3864 A sister language of Spanish I've been working on.

This yet-unnamed conlang is a sort of "con-dialect". Based on Old Spanish, it is spoken by a group recently discovered Latin American tribe of seemingly indigenous people, who were taken over by a group of conquistadors on a lost expedition; they married into the native elite and formed a new Spanish speaking upper class, out of touch with the Spanish crown, though to this day they still proclaim their loyalty to the Spanish Crown, and their leader calls himself the Bisorrei, [bisoʁej] (Refered to by the Spanish speakers as the "Bisoguey"), originally derived from the renaissance Spanish word for viceroy.

Phonological Inventory

Labial Dental/Alveölar Palatal Velar Uvular
Nasal m n ɲ
Voiceless Stop p t k
Voiced obstruënt b~β d~ð ɟ~ʝ g~ɣ ɢ~ʁ
Voiceless Fricative f θ, s (ʃ) x~χ x~χ
approximant (w) l j w
trill r
While at first glance the phonology may be basically like any real spanish dialect, the only real difference beïng the voiced uvular stop, which is simply a gutteral double r, (which exists in Portuguese), the way it came to these sounds is much different. It even has the same allophonic rules with its stops. The other allophonic rules include that the velar series becomes uvular before a back vowel. So, "coudo" (es. codo) is pronounced [qowðo], and this leads to /ʁ/ and /ɣ/ merging before back vowels, even to the point where spellings of [ɢ~ʁ] does not always reflect etymology, so [ɢoβre] 'oak' is spelled "gobre" (es. roble) despite etymologically beïng "robre".

Development of Etymological Sibilants

In Spanish, all lingual fricatives derive from medieval sibilants. In Spanish, this was a result of first losing their voicing distinction and then becoming /θ/, /s/, or /x/. In the conlang, however, they moved first, merging with the lenited forms of the stops, so medieval [dz] merged with medieval [d], and [ʒ] became [ʝ] rather then [ʃ] and then [ç]. This changes a lot more though because there is also already a [ʝ] segment, which would render the functional load of the distinction great enough to possibly prevent further mergers.
This leads to the following pairs of cognates:
Conlang Conlang Spanish Spanish Originl Original Gloss
azur aður azul aθul azur adzuɾ blue
roxo ɢoχo rojo roxo roxo roʃo red
muyer muʝer mujer muxeɾ mugier muʒeɾ woman
biejez bjeʝeð vejez bexeθ vejez βeʒed͡z age
note: Glosses represent conlang meaning, not the spanish or medieval denotation of the word

Latin /f/

Beyond this, the fate of Latin /f/ is also slightly different. In early Spanish it became /h/, and Depending on the variëty of Spanish it either is still /h/ (as in Extremadura and parts of Andalusia), was lost entirely (the typical outcome), or merged with the reflex of Old Spanish /ʃ/ and /ʒ/ (some rural varieties of Latin America.). In the conlang however, the outcome depended on the context. Before front vowels and also after [i] it became [ç]. When between [a] or [o] and [u], [o], or [a], (or simply finally after [a] or [o]) it became [χ]. Both [ç] and [χ] mostly merged with the outcome of etymological [ʃ], which as already mentioned earlier underwent a shift of [ʃ] => [ç] => [x], and then uvularises after [a] and [o]. The sole exception to this merger is [χ] before [u].
The clusters [hw] and [hj] both became [f] and [x] <- [ç] respectively.

pherro feʁo fuego fweɣo fuego fwego fire
xerro xeʁo hierro ɟ͡ʝero fierro hjero iron

The palatal lateral

Spanish /ʎ/ also has no single clear cognate. Between non-front vowels, or initially before back vowels, /ʎ/ became [ɣ], passing through [ʟ] (this then backed to [ʁ] before /a/ and /o/). After syllables containing [j], it also dissimilated to [l]. Otherwise it became [ʝ] like in many variëties of Spanish.

jeno ɟeno lleno ɟ͡ʝe.no lleno ʎeno full
caudielo qawðjelo caudillo kawðiʎo cabdielo kaβdjeʎo general
The reason for words such as "gubia" and "jeno" having initial stops is the aforementioned rule whereby the voiced fricatives merged with the voiced stops.

Rhotics

Finally, we get to the outcome of [r]. Like in portuguese, this conlang has a gutteral rhotic; a simple [r] to [ʁ] shift. When combined with the broader betacism, this resulted in an initial allophone of [ɢ]. This did not affect the flap however, [ɾ], which has since turned into a trill.
Conlang Conlang Spanish Spanish Medieval Medieval Gloss
rephtar ɢeftar retar retaɾ reptar reptaɾ to delay
jego ɟeʁo yerro ɟ͡ʝero yerro jero mistake

Other Changes

Of course, these are merely the most notable changes. Other changes include voiceless plosives becoming fricatives in coda before an obstruent, and vowels raising before a coda nasal (except before a geminate nasal).
All in all, the result is a language with a very spanishy-sound (except the uvulars) but still quite distinct. This is not to get into the research I have yet to do to account for the language contact one would reasonably expect, which will be reflected in the morphology (hence why none was provided here).

2024.05.21 21:52 justmadeathrowaway2 Gaslighting & Nitpicking: Hard to tell legit complaints from non-legit ones

Anyone know any good resources for gaslighting and like nitpicking from pwBPD?
I empathize with a lot of stories on here, but mine is more death by a thousand cuts. Just got into another spat and it escalated because my answers weren’t satisfactory.
I can understand their point (they asked for something and I rolled my eyes, totally get it). But I explained that I assumed something in my reaction. They asked me why and I told them I don’t know (because I don’t and would have to to look into myself further to figure out why that’s where I went automatically)
It ended with them saying that it made them feel bad that I didn’t express a plan/ideas for how it wouldn’t happen in the future.
I just…like for one: they make faces and get upset at things then say it’s fine almost everyday. Like it’s so common I don’t even get mad cause I’m legit on their side now of understanding “yeah I felt like that in the moment but I’d need to sit down with myself to figure out why that’s where I went”
So it’s upsetting because I feel like they should understand. Also, it just felt like they were trying to paint it so it was clearly jusadeathrowaway2 = wrong and hurtful and them = right and just trying to talk.
This time the complaint was that I didn’t also give an explanation as to why I didn’t have an answer for how to prevent it moving forward.
This is the main behavior that’s a stressor of our relationship. Honestly they’re fine with most of the other symptoms except for the “my FP said X but I heard Y” thing. Only problem is now I’m the one who’s question if I’m distorting things because they’re telling me I’m not hearing them.
Idk. Any resources on BPD communication? Words, phrases, voice tones, etc.

2024.05.21 21:42 SeanMoss-1 Psilocybin for mecfs treatment?

Firstly, I am not a therapist. I am a 43-year-old male who has been very much weakened by MEcfs. There is a profound physical aspect to CFS, but it very much has a psychological underpinning. It seems that The only people who recover are those that use mind body approaches as a spouse by John Sarno, Howard Schubiner, etc. I am very weak, and am entering in this information via voice. For this reason, there might be some errors, such as the misspelling of CFS.
I have tried psilocybin in two CONTEXTS before. One was a macro dose of 1.5 g. I felt that the experience was pleasant. However, as the mushrooms were wearing off, I developed areas of my body in which it felt, my skin was burning, and went through waves of anxiety. I felt like I went into a lesser trip again the following day. I experienced closed visuals that made it impossible. The only way I can calm down with my eyes open. All of the problems sided after a week. after a week, I took a prescription medication, and this caused an exacerbation of problems that last another week. Additionally, I have I experienced a lesser withdrawal from the Macrodosing, that went away after a few sessions all in all, didn’t have any lasting benefit, though during individual sessions, I felt that I was a state of levity at sometimes. I feel that psilocybin might help me progress with my condition, buried, trauma, etc. However, I am very much worried about the idea of HPD, hallucinogen, persisting, perceptual disorder, or symptoms of the that just last well beyond when they should. Considering it took a while to get down to baseline, and after my back road, I wonder if I might be a specially . Predisposed to. I have used ketamine lozenges before, and have a prescription for them. I’ve only used them a few times, and I found that they didn’t do much in terms of helping me access anything deep within my psyche. This is a potential alternative to be psilocybin, and one less downside, potentially, but also potentially less upside as well.
I think from here on, I’m not going to bother making any paragraph breaks. It’s just too hard on my arm. The only reason I’m considering this is because I had a very meaningful synchronistic event which I believe might be pointing me toward this course of action as a treatment modality. of course, that which I experienced could’ve just been a wild coincidence. If it was coincidence, it certainly defied the laws of probability. No one here can tell me whether I will be safe, using psilocybin or not. I am wondering what the chances are of the bad at weighing the good. in forums in which people discuss negative experiences from the substances, including HPD, there is a substantial responder bias. The same can be set of forums in which people discuss healing benefits that they’ve had. It should also be mentioned that I’m currently taking 2.2 mg of fluoxetine per day. I have had a great deal, difficulty, discontinuing, fluoxetine, and I’ve been tapering down by a small amount over a long period. My psychiatrist informs me that, contrary to popular belief, there is no risk of taking psilocybin with fluoxetine so far as serotonin syndrome is concerned , I wonder if the fluoxetine at this would noticeably attenuate my experience. Roughly 50% of SRT receptors are block at. this dosage. If I were to hold off until being completely off of the fluoxetine, I would be looking at many more months before use. I’m very frustrated at my physical weakness and my lack of progress. More than anything I just want to get my life back. it seems like a key feature of the feeding MECFS, and fibromyalgia for that matter, is to become INDFFERENT to the symptoms. Ironically, those that do develop each HPPD from the substances say that reaching this point of indifference is the only thing that cures them as well. Considering I have a condition that is perpetuated by a lack of indifference, I do wonder if I would be more predisposed to HPD, and then on the other hand, there are those that said that psilocybin has helped their MEC massively. at this point the last thing I want put myself in a state where I’m functioning far worse as a result of a lingering trip that just won’t go away. Any thoughts that you have on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

2024.05.21 21:41 ComprehensiveWord896 Dust inhalation

I’ve seen primary care doctors and can’t get to a specialist because I guess they don’t take me seriously.
A little over a month ago I cleaned up dust from a floor refinishing. The company had already finished the floors and sealed the floors. I was wiping up dust with wet rags on horizontal surfaces.
My sinuses have been super dry and messed up since. Not like allergies, I have had those before, like the texture has been removed from the inside of sinus and the snot I produce is more or less just water. I’ve had stints where it gets a little better for a few hours but never normal. One side hurts and if I flex my face I can feel pulling and stinging inside the nasal cavity. I tried to go back into the house but symptoms come firing back, irritated eyes, sinuses lock up worse than before it’s awful. Also it makes my mouth taste weird , eyes burn and my throat itch.
I have since learned much about wood dust. All the information I can find is on occupational exposure. It was dusty but it didn’t seem like a crazy amount. Didn’t wear a mask. The wood was walnut and apparently that has its own issues, (irritant, sensitizer, cancers) but can’t find an expert on that either.
Male 6’4” 245 lbs , 120/81, 60 bpm , 44 yrs old
I’m frustrated, not being able to breathe right is making me crazy. I was sent home with antihistamines that just dried my sinuses out worse. I’ve been using nasal rinses and moisturizing gels. Other people have been in the property and say they don’t notice anything. Idk what specialist to ask for or what tests to run. I can hardly find anyone that’s had close to the same experience. No idea if this will ever get better.

2024.05.21 21:10 Mysterious_Theory328 Life feels destroyed after this diagnosis.

NOTE: I posted this elsewhere yesterday when I was completely spiraling. I feel a a fraction of a bit better today. I'm leaving this in word-for-word. Even though I say at the end I don't know why I posted this, I guess I do want to hear about other people's experiences. Its felt better to get this out.
The last three years of my life have been pretty tough, but I really thought I had come through the other side. I (M39) decided to go back to school, as I was not very happy in my former field. It was an extremely tough thing to do, as I would be taking a pay cut for the foreseeable future. My ex-girlfriend and I had been together for almost three years at this point and owned a house together. She said she supported my decision and understood my time would become limited considerably while I was in my program. Well that was a fucking lie. Almost immediately she started complaining about me "not taking her out" like I used to, or not doing as many projects around the house. The program I was in was already anxiety-inducing enough. To cut a long story short (because this isn't event what this post is about), I came to see our relationship was transactional, developed severe anxiety, and started to suffer health-related problems like high blood pressure. By the skin of my teeth I passed my program, became licensed, but had lingering issues around everything that had gone down in that span of time.
Over the last six months I have put in a lot of work and truly felt very hopeful for my future. I saw a therapist, got on some medications, lost 20 lbs. and got into great shape. Starting this new field has been a challenge, but also rewarding in the way I was looking for. I met a girl at work which I was very hesitant about d/t setting and some lingering anxiety issues. There was common interest, and I really explained what I had gone through and where I felt like I was. We both agreed to take things VERY SLOW. Hiking, lunch, movies, very casual for the first month. We finally had our first "serious" date - a fancy late night dinner and tickets to a show. We had some wine at her house after, and after some light touching and kissing, we had the conversation of getting tested because we were very much both interested in pursuing more. She had an ex give her chlamydia and had an upcoming OB/GYN appointment and was planning and getting a full workup. I thought "Well I've only slept with two women in the past eight years and have had no issues," but knew I hadn't been tested since 2016, which had shown I was clean.
I got my results back last Friday. HSV II. I'm fucking stunned. I mean I couldn't fucking breath. Full blown panic attack. I have never had any issues with my penis at all. Never any pain urinating, nothing. All the anxiety that I had worked so hard to get rid of came back and crushed me over this last weekend. It was all I could do to to get through my 12-hour shifts. I immediately hit up both of my ex's to figure out who the hell had given me this, as there was no other way. Last ex proceeds to tell me she had been tested about six months ago when she started dating her new boyfriend. I confirm she's clean for HSV II. She proceeds to berate me for being an idiot and a near 40 year-old with a disease now. I'll admit I'm not very proud of this, but she assumed I had caught something after her and I did not tell her that that left only the possibility of my relationship before her passing this to me.
So on to the title and why I'm so devastated. I'm really racking my brain on how I could have this but never see anything wrong with my penis. Then I read something that was my 'getting struck by lightening' moment. It was a post that is very similar to mine. Guy gets tested, guy gets HSV II diagnosis, perplexed at no previous penis symptoms. But he does get pretty bad cold sores from time-to-time. His Dr informs him that it's very possibly to get HSV II on your face. Now I never thought I had a cold sore before, but I remember back in 2017 getting an infected hair follicle in the hair right below my bottom lip after shaving. I went to the Dr, he looks at it and says "Yup, looks like an infection," give me antibiotics, but it doesn't go away for about two weeks. About two years after that, same thing happens: I shave, my follicle gets infected, I get more antibiotics from the Dr, and though it's not anywhere near as bad as the first time it still takes about two weeks to heal. Then almost exactly a year ago the same thing pops about, but this time I haven't shaved. Call my Dr, gives me antibiotics without even looking at it. I start looking at HSV II outbreaks in the same area as I was getting my infected follicle. I find a few pictures that look dead-on from what mine looks like. I at least though "Well, it's on my penis, condoms exist," but I'm not exaggerating in the least when I tell you after my realization I felt like the hopeless protagonist at the end of an HP Lovecraft novel where he realizes there is indeed a fate worse than death.
I'm finally able to get ahold of my ex from back in 2016. She confirms to me that she indeed has HSV II, but didn't think to tell me because we hadn't spoken in years. "I figured if you didn't reach out then we were good." This confirms she cheated on me because we were tested together. I don't even care about that now. Now my focus shifts to the girl I'm currently dating. She knows something is up. So I just started at where we work and on the other hand she's been there for six years. She is like family to most people on the floor. I'm the annoying new guy who barely knows anyone. She has her OB/GYN appointment today and I realize I need to tell her that not only do I have HSV II, that it's on my face and there is possibility she might have it on hers' too. She is very calm about it but I can tell in her voice that she is shook. I hope to beyond all fucking hope that her test comes back all clear. I'm also legitimately contemplating put in my resignation at work, a job I just fucking started. There's no way this doesn't get out at work and I don't become ostracized. I don't know how I'm going to approach this in the future, I don't see any romance in my life anymore. And this is so fucking selfish, but if I gave this to her I am legitimately scared on how this will make ME feel. I'm scarred that that guilt will cripple me and I'll be doomed to live in constant anxiety. I don't feel any better writing this all out, in fact I feel worse. I have no idea why the fuck I'm posting this.

2024.05.21 20:39 santiesgirl You're not yourself when you're psychotic

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you aren't yourself when you're psychotic. I've read all kinds of stories from people who were psychotic. From telling friends they're spies to cheating on their significant other because a spirit told them to, I've read it all. Even I changed when I was psychotic. I did some abusive things I'm not proud of. It really fucks with me, and I hate talking about it.
But you gotta forgive yourself for what you've done during psychosis. You cannot help how you behave. There's only so much control you have over your symptoms. You gotta let it go. If people don't understand, they'll never understand, and it's time to move on.
I didn't lose anyone thankfully during my psychosis. All the terrible things I did and said were forgiven because people saw I wasn't myself. I was gone. A shell of my former self. Constantly tortured and lied to by the voices and I believed it all. If you did, I'm sorry. Maybe you shouldn't be their friend if they can't comprehend what being psychotic is like. Maybe it's for the better.
Sure, people shouldn't put up with abusive behaviors, but there's some level of understanding you have to have for someone who is sick and doesn't know what's going on. We are torture victims. Victims of our own mind. I have so much in common with real PTSD victims. It took me forever to heal from some of the things I went through. I had and still have fears.
Apologize for what you've done. That's a given. You should take accountability for your actions; they hurt someone. Their feelings are important. But don't hold it against yourself if it's not enough to repair the relationship. They can't understand what it's like to hold such beliefs. Instead, love yourself through it. Mourn the relationship and move on. You're better off with people who can understand you and appreciate you.

Signs Of Throat Cancer
https://preview.redd.it/qbtipu09nt1d1.jpg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e90a050d3478b656809371b68f7ee0e9a2c4888
Usually individuals who suffer from throat cancer develop cancer in their voice box called larynx and face problems like sore throat, swelling of the neck, and difficulty swallowing. Possibly, the sufferer may note these indications of throat cancer in the beginning, but they might get to know it when the cancer gets more advanced and they face issues with breathing or speaking. However, throat cancer symptoms may differ based on their location in your body, and if the cancerous tumors grow within the voice box, they can make you ineligible to speak. These conditions require an immediate diagnosis, and you must visit a medical expert quickly!
Common Causes
However, the exact cause of throat cancer is not known, but due to the reasons mentioned, an individual might develop this illness:
  • Can develop due to genetic changes in the cells of your throat.
  • Consuming a lot of alcohol and tobacco-based products can possibly let you develop tumors.
  • Getting human papillomavirus infection.
  • Individuals exposed to chemicals like sulfuric acid, mist nickel, etc. in the workplace are at greater risk.
Throat Cancer Signs/Symptoms
Here’s a list of some common signs that a person may face when developing throat cancer:
Voice Changes: If your voice is becominghoarse or husky or you are facing difficulty pronouncing certain sounds or words, then there might be a possibility that you are developing cancer in your larynx.
Difficulty or Pain in Swallowing: The most initial sign that you might come across would be difficulty swallowing, as you might experience burning or pain when chewing and swallowing food.
Chronic Sore Throat: Known as an early warning sign, where cancer can occur in the pharynx, causing pain in your throat, which doesn’t disappear when you swallow.
Weight loss: An unusual weight loss may occur as a common cancer symptom which can be exacerbated by swallowing problems.
Swollen Lymph Nodes Around the Neck: Swollen nodes or enlarged lymph glands around the neck can be a sign your body is developing a cancer illness, especially if it grows slowly.
Other Signs
  • trouble moving your tongue
  • white patches around tongue or mouth lining
  • coughing up blood
  • nosebleeds
  • pain in throat
Stages of Throat Cancer
Throat cancer staging can form an essential part done by your doctor to identify the stage of cancer and to analyze how far the cancer has grown and spread. Usually, these are the stages that your doctor will diagnose:
Stage 0: Denoted by the term carcinoma in situ where the throat will develop cancerous cells.
Stage I: Referred to as an early stage of cancer where the cancer is only two centimeters, limited to the throat.
Stage II: This stage forms where thetumor is usually between two-four centimeters, but yet not spread to the lymph nodes.
Stage III: Here, your throat cancer comes larger than four centimeters, or even spread to nearby lymph nodes.
Stage IV: During this, the cancer is no longer confined to the original site as it might spread to other body areas including your neck, trachea or jaw.

Throat Cancer Diagnosis

Usually the specialists follow the below mentioned methods to diagnose the throat cancer:
Physical Examination: Most initially when you see a doctor, they will usually examine your mouth, throat and neck to find any throat cancer symptom.
Larynx Endoscopy: To look for abnormalities of the throat, the doctors use an endoscope and insert it through the nose to analyze the illness.
Biopsy: The doctors do this to determine if there are cancerous cells present by taking a small sample of cells or tissue to examine using a magnifying glass.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound of the neck is utilized to detect any abnormalities present, which can subsequently be verified using CT or MRI scans.
X-rays: The doctors may opt for chest x-ray to determine the sufferer’s general health and to analyze the spread of lung cancer.
CT Scan: A radiological procedure is performed to confirm and pinpoint the presence of disease or cancer in the neck region, while also assessing any potential lymph nodes. This involves creating detailed cross-sectional images of the targeted structure from various angles.
MRI: Using radio waves and magnets, the test produces detailed images about what’s going on inside your body.
PET scan: The doctors usually inject radioactive material into the body to detect cancer cells. Treatment Options
Mentioned below are the treatment options that the experts suggest:
The order of treatment for throat cancer is especially if it’s involving voice box or adjacent structures is chemotherapy plus radiotherapy . This approach has evolved from the surgery first approach which was used few decades ago but with the principle of organ preservation and to preserve the voice of the patient .
Surgery: Your medical expert will suggest surgery depending upon the location of the cancer and the structures involved ,if erosion of the cartilages seen in the scan then surgery is the choice of treatment The surgery involves laryngectomy plus partial phryngectomy and also reconstruction of the pharynx which connects to the food pipe . However, surgery involves excision of the voice box and loss of voice but with recent development of voice prosthesis ,voice can be generated.
Laser Surgery: Another treatment option, usually opted by the medical experts in the very initial stages if the disease is limited only to the voice box that too partially .
Radiation Therapy: You may get advised by the doctor to undergo radiation therapy which is the primary treatment in some cases as these doses target the cancer cells to eliminate them.
Chemotherapy: To treat certain cancer conditions, chemotherapy may be needed, especially if the tumor is large, or if the cancer has spread into the lymph nodes as this surgery can shrink tumors possibly.
Targeted Therapy: Since this type of treatment reduces the risk of side effects, these drugs target specific cancer cells or proteins that affect the growth of cancer.
Immunotherapy: This new approach boosts the ability of the immune system to protect the body from cancer.
Prevention
  • Avoid consuming tobacco products and say no to smoking.
  • You can prevent this illness by limiting alcohol consumption.
  • Consume a healthy diet.

Can develop due to genetic changes in the cells of your throat. Consuming a lot of alcohol and tobacco-based products can possibly let you develop tumors. Getting human papillomavirus infection. Individuals exposed to chemicals like sulfuric acid, mist nickel, etc. in the workplace are at greater risk.
Other Signs
trouble moving your tongue white patches around tongue or mouth lining coughing up blood nosebleeds pain in throat
Prevention
Avoid consuming tobacco products and say no to smoking. You can prevent this illness by limiting alcohol consumption. Consume a healthy diet.

2024.05.21 20:14 Business-Fact-2318 Peri Menopause Help

Hello! New to the group and I’ve already found so much great information here (as well as a feeling of relief that I’m not “crazy”.)
I’m a 40yo cis-female and all of my closest female relatives are dead so I have no one to talk with about my current experiences to see if they are similar to what they experienced. These female relatives also all died of some form of cancer, so while genetic testing said I wasn’t genetically predisposed, I have always been terrified of cancer and have as a result, stayed away from hormonal therapies, like hormonal birth control.
My current peri symptoms include ZERO libido (I used to have a very strong sexual desire/libido), what I can only describe as the most annoying post-nasal drip that doesn’t actually produce phlegm, night sweats, and general apathy/sometimes lethargy.
My most recent drs apts and bloodwork show “totally normal everything”, so that also makes me feel like I’m going bonkers.
I’m wondering if anyone here has found any supplements or OTC meds to help with libido and the PND. I have tried all OTC allergy meds for the PND and now am trying daily ozemperol if it’s in fact, GERD.
Thank you for your support and any recommendations.

2024.05.21 20:00 Ambitious-Desk-60 Lucifer vs. Mary, Chapter 4:the Girl from Bethlehem (+Intermission)

“It was a special day, during the year 0, in the Roman occupied lands of Palestine, as I was with a very important task”
Gabriel started to narrate her story, reminiscing those days she mentioned.
““_Give this message, to a girl named Mary, in Bethlehem:You will bear the Son of God, and He shall be God in form of man_” as Lord YHWH ordered me, and as I walked down the streets, I began to hear a voice, of a rather young girl, going person to person, asking for something, before she came up to me, and asked me:”_Miss, do you perhaps know of a man looking for a bride? I am looking for a man to marry_”, and when I asked of her name, she was the one and only Mary, so I was taken aback, given how young she was, but I had to send her off, as I was not prepared for this”
Gabriel kept going, not taking her gaze off from Mary.
“I met her some time later at a well, and I asked her for how long she has been asking for a husband, and she’s been searching for 3 days, and this was the 4th, and had begun to lose hope in finding a man, despite praying each night. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel bad, so that night, now that I was sure that was the Mary Lord YHWH appointed me, I entered her mind in her sleep, and gave the this message in her dreams:”_Mary of Bethlehem, for 4 days you’ve prayed to find a man, and tomorrow, you will, as you will be the mother of The Savior, Jesus Christ. Tomorrow, you will find your man before sundown_” and the next morning, she gave those incredible news to her parents, who were very joyous and honored that Lord YHWH heard their pleas”
Gabriel had a huge smile on her face, Göll also smiling from the story.
“What happened after? She met her husband Joseph right?”
Gabriel immediately answers Göll’s question.
“Yep, she did, in the same well she met me, as he heard of her wish, and decided that if no one else was going to marry her, he will, Mary was very happy to hear that, and decided to spend the rest of the day until sundown to be with him, as they then both began to learn more of each other, Joseph revealing he is a carpenter, which coincidentally had helped Mary’s parents, but that day, when Joseph and Mary went to her house, they found the entire house had been ransacked, the parents unharmed, and both thanked our Lord for the safety of Mary, who then gave her the news that the Roman Emperor had found out about the existence of hidden Christians, and sent soldiers to eradicate them, before Joseph stepped up, promising to protect Mary if her father gave him her hand, which they happily did”
As Gabriel was talking and Göll was listening, Brunhilde was still focused on analyzing any trick that Mary was using against Lucifer.
“And so, Mary and Joseph embarked on a long travel, where they met with a caravan heading to Nazareth, where under the guise of rags and wrinkles, I decided to join in, to keep an eye from Mary, before I once again entered her dreams, announcing that the birth of Jesus will be a virgin one, and that she must say this to everyone to avoid confusion, but as the caravan traveled, Mary had began to suffer the symptoms of pregnancy, Joseph taking extra care for her, before they were stopped not too far from Nazareth due to a storm, before Mary decided that they were close enough where she and Joseph could make it there by themselves, and once the storm settled, she and Joseph thanked the caravan, and made it to the city of Nazareth, meeting a group of farmers before Mary began to go into labour, the farmers helping Joseph hurry Mary into their staple, lying her carefully on a pile of cloth and straw, and as Mary started to give birth, a bright star shined above, when Lord YHWH sent the 3 other Archangels to tell 3 kings to follow the star, and give their gifts to the son, as he shall bring salvation from sins”
Göll was amazed at the story, before Gabriel kept on going for the final snippet.
“And thus, began the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, which Mary and Joseph, together, helped raise, and bore witness to his various parables and miracles, and both sadly wept at the time of his crucifixion and his rebirth, but even after he was gone, Mary kept on spreading the word of God, redeeming sinners and aiding with local issues, and one day, years after the death of Jesus. I was allowed to show myself in my full glory, for I had one last task for Mary:helping her ascend to the kingdom of Heaven before her death, a feat yet not done by neither man nor woman today, and as she ascended, Lord YHWH gave her among the biggest honors a human could ever have:the titles of Holiest saint, greatest woman, and the one most important title, the one of the Queen of Heaven:_Regina Caeli_”
As soon as Gabriel finished narrating, Brunhilde was still puzzled.
“Queen of Heaven? So she’s a much bigger deal than I thought”
Göll said, amazed at Gabriel’s story of Mary, Gabriel looking at the fight.
“Yeah, but I’m confident she’ll net humanity a well needed win”
{Intermission:Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit}
[these intermissions are meant to be like extra chapters with either interaction with audience members, or are the introduction of them]
As Mary was walking to the arena doors, she was greeted by a familiar voice and footsteps nearby.
“May God be with you, my dear”
And as Mary turns around, she can see her dear husband Joseph, accompanied by Jesus and his 6 other siblings:James, Joses, Simon, Jude, Judith and Miriam.
“Joseph? My kids, what are you doing here?”
Mary asked them, resting her thurible around her neck and waist as Joseph went to hug her, alongside the rest of the family.
“Just wanted to see you one last time before we went back to the audience seats, dear Mother”
Jude told Mary, as she embraces the hug”
“Thank you my son, worry not about the fight, I’m sure our Lord won’t let me die against his greatest oppressor, for I am his Holiest Saint”
Mary smiled, before she saw Gabriel approach them, her family also noticing her.
“Been some time, Mary of Bethlehem”
Mary was about to bow, but Gabriel stopped her.
“I was just passing by, I was headed to the medbay to help our Raphael, but I am glad to see you safe, although I never would’ve thought you’d step up instead of Joan” “It is my duty as the Queen of Heaven to eradicate sin and bring salvation”
Mary responded to Gabriel, before she looked at the door to the arena behind her.
“We’ll keep cheering you on, Mom”
Judith said happily, Jesus and Joseph nodding as Gabriel then accompanied them back to the audience seats, Mary looking at the arena entrance, taking out her bible and beginning to pray as Heimdall began to announce her entrance.

The Battle for Zor'thal
The skies of Zor'thal burned red as the Insectoid swarm darkened the horizon, their shrill war cries piercing the air. Amid the chaos, Commander Sarah Williams stood at the edge of a crumbling barricade, her uniform scorched and tattered. She wiped the soot from her face and looked back at the terrified Zor'thali huddled behind her—a once-proud avian species now reduced to desperate survivors.
"Hold the line!" she shouted, her voice hoarse from days of relentless fighting. Human soldiers, battered but unbroken, snapped to attention, their faces steeled with determination. They had come to Zor'thal not for conquest, but to protect these gentle beings who painted the skies with colors unseen on Earth.
The battle raged on, and the humans fought with a ferocity that defied their exhaustion. Sarah's mind flashed back to a moment when a young Zor'thali child had handed her a small, hand-carved figure of a bird. "For luck," the child had said, eyes wide with hope.
Hours turned into days, and the Insectoids seemed endless. Sarah watched as Corporal James Reed, a seasoned soldier with a heart of gold, charged into the fray to save a wounded Zor'thali elder. He took a hit meant for the elder, his scream lost in the roar of the battle. Sarah's heart clenched, but she pressed on, her duty clear.
Finally, after a brutal final assault, the Insectoids were purged from the area. The battlefield was a graveyard of broken bodies and shattered dreams, but Zor'thal was saved. The Zor'thali wept as they mourned their dead and honored the humans who had fought so bravely.
Years later, at an interstellar summit, the Zor'thali Chancellor stood before a vast assembly. His feathers, once vibrant, were now dull with age, but his eyes shone with gratitude. He recounted the darkest days of the invasion, his voice trembling as he spoke of the human sacrifices.
A Xendari representative, known for his cynicism, interrupted, "Why should we trust the humans? They are known for their aggression and self-interest."
The room fell silent. Commander Sarah Williams, now an ambassador, rose from her seat. Her gaze was steady as she walked to the center of the hall. "When the Insectoids descended upon Zor'thal, they intended to eradicate every living being. We fought not for gain, but because it was the right thing to do. Thousands of our soldiers lie buried on Zor'thal, having given their lives to protect those who could not protect themselves."
She paused, her voice cracking with emotion. "I still carry the figure of a bird given to me by a Zor'thali child. It reminds me of why we fought. For them, for their future."
The Xendari representative, known for his bluster, found himself speechless. The truth hung heavily in the air.
The Defense of Iylara
The lush forests of Iylara were a living tapestry of greens and blues, now marred by the fiery onslaught of the Insectoids. Admiral James Harris stood on a ridge, his heart heavy as he surveyed the burning landscape. The Iylari, an aquatic species known for their wisdom, were fighting a losing battle. Their beautiful coral cities, once vibrant with life, were being reduced to rubble.
"Admiral, we need to fall back," a young lieutenant urged, his voice tinged with fear.
"No," Harris replied firmly. "We hold our ground. We are their last hope."
As the humans dug in, the Insectoids advanced, their insectile drones tearing through defenses. Harris watched as a group of Iylari children, their scales shimmering with tears, were shepherded to safety by human medics. He clenched his fists, determined to give them a future.
The battle was fierce. Harris led charge after charge, his mind a blur of strategy and survival. He saw Lieutenant Davis, barely twenty, carrying an injured Iylari on his back through a hail of enemy fire. Davis fell, his body shielding the Iylari from harm. Harris's chest tightened, but he couldn't afford to grieve—not yet.
After nearly a year of unrelenting combat, the Insectoids were finally repelled. The humans had paid a steep price, but the Iylari were saved. The once-pastoral fields of Iylara were scarred with the memory of their sacrifice.
Decades later, during a historic Galactic Council meeting, an elderly Iylari senator stood to speak. His scales had lost their luster, but his voice carried the weight of lived experience. "When the Insectoids came, we were doomed. It was the humans who stood with us, who fought and died for our freedom."
A Myraxian representative, known for his disdain of human involvement, sneered. "Why should we trust these humans? They are warriors, not diplomats."
The senator's eyes narrowed. "The humans are indeed warriors, but they are also protectors. When the Insectoids ravaged and consumed our forests and slaughtered and ate our people, it was the humans who stood with us. They asked for nothing in return, except to see justice done. I remember a young soldier, David, who carried me from the flames. He was just nineteen Terra years! "
Admiral Harris, now retired and attending as an honorary guest, nodded solemnly. The Myraxian opened his mouth to retort but found no words. The senator's voice trembled as he continued, "David gave his life so I could live. How many of us owe our lives to such sacrifice?"
The assembly was silent, the weight of their debt to humanity undeniable.
The Liberation of Vornax
The frigid plains of Vornax were a harsh and unforgiving battlefield. The Insectoids had invaded, enslaving the crystalline Vornaxians for use as biofuel. General Marcus Lee stood on the front lines, his breath visible in the freezing air. His troops were exhausted, but their resolve was unbreakable.
"General, our supplies are running low," Captain Rodriguez reported, her voice shaking from the cold.
"We can't stop now," Lee replied. "The Vornaxians are counting on us."
As they advanced through the ice and snow, Lee saw the desperation in the eyes of the Vornaxians. They had endured unimaginable horrors, and the humans had come to be their last hope. The humans fought in subzero temperatures, their bodies pushed to the brink, but they never wavered.
One night, as they set up camp, Lee sat by a fire with a young Vornaxian girl who had lost her family. She handed him a small, crystalline shard. "For courage," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Lee held the shard tightly, feeling the weight of her trust. The next morning, they launched a final assault on the Insectoids hive stronghold. The battle was fierce, and the humans fought with a primal fury. Lee watched as Sergeant Johnson, a father of two, charged into enemy lines to protect a group of Vornaxian prisoners. He fell, but his sacrifice allowed the prisoners to escape.
After two grueling years, the Insectoids were scorched from Vornax. The humans had liberated the planet, but the cost was high. The Vornaxians wept as they buried their saviors, their crystalline tears shimmering in the cold light.
Years later, at a commemoration ceremony on Vornax, an elder Vornaxian spoke before a gathered assembly of intergalactic dignitaries. His voice was filled with emotion as he recounted the sacrifices made by the humans. "They came to us in our darkest hour, not as conquerors, but as liberators."
A Kreeva representative, known for their isolationist views, scoffed. "Why do you honor the humans so? They are known for their imperial ambitions."
General Lee, attending as a guest of honor, stepped forward, his voice steady and powerful. "When the Insectoids enslaved the Vornaxians, we fought and died for their freedom. We did not conquer; we liberated. Thousands of human lives were lost to ensure that the Vornaxians could live free from tyranny."
The elder Vornaxian, crystalline eyes glistening, added, "The humans gave everything so that we could have our future. I still visit the grave of a human soldier who saved my family, who lies buried in our soil as one of our own. His name was Michael, and he was just twenty-three."
The Kreeva representative, usually quick to argue, found himself silent in the face of such conviction and sacrifice. The weight of the moment pressed down on the assembly.

2024.05.21 19:43 Mololama How to interpret how hard someone was hit in the head, somehow.

How to interpret how hard someone was hit in the head, somehow.
If the persona is laying on the ground, but you are not sure if they are lethally wounded, passed out or even just fine, you can take these steps:
  1. Check for signs of focal injury. There are three types of those. Here are symptoms to recognize each type.
  2. First type-Blood is is coming out of ears, nose and the back of the throat. The area around their eyes darkens, to a way that they look like racoons. Their area around nipples darkens.
  3. Second type-It is too noticable, but the blood gathers in a manner that does not damage the brain much ( between the dura matter and the skull), but you can recognize it from the other ones by rapid bleeding through skull fragments
  4. Third type- pretty much the same as second type but it happens under the dura matter. The brain damage can last for life, as the skull is not that damaged ( the blood should not ooze out of the skull)
First type is probable to come with second or third, as it is caused by protective membrane rupture and the other ones by blood vessel ruptures ( artery and vein respectively) The ruptures are most of the time caused by skull fragments
If you do not see any bleeding go to step two, if you do, go to step four
2) Check for vomit If you see it, it means it is diffuse brain damage. Other symptoms like nausea, head cake and loss of memory can be judged by behaviour If they are moving or talking of course that is if it is not just trembling
They will be impaired but may stand up They will not be too dandy tough
If they start trembling and they have fast heart beat as well as have symptoms of oxygen depravation, they will die likely ( 75% chance)
Go to step four if you do see that or three if you do not
3) No symptoms It means that their fine But if you see some blood, it might be face skull fragmentation. Check for disfigurement of face Both cases they will be fine They may STAND up. They can function well
End here and act as you think
4) Come up to them Use the glasgow scale
Eyes opening
Spontaneously-4 Responds to voice-3 Reacts to pain-2 No reaction-1
Vocal responce
Logical answer-5 Tangled-4 Inadequate answer-3 Unintelligible sounds-2 No reaction-1
Movement Reaction
Fulfills motor commands-6 Locates the pain stimulus-5 Defensive reaction to a painful stimulus-4 Flexion reaction to a pain stimulus-3 Extension reaction to a pain stimulus-2 No reaction-1
The numbers are points Sum up
Score under 13 means you can expect more then mild symptoms
Watch out for the spine. It is delicate
Use emergency hiper ventilation if trembling, give oxygen therapy ( using in throat tubing if scale under 8 ) on more than 90% SpO2.
Trembling means high ICP in skull caused by hipotension. Hiper tension means brain damage, which will make the persona not too able to function, as it is to a high degree
Stop bleeding HemCon or Quick lot. Or whatever you have. Cloth can be used above score of 8 for 10 minutes. Do not push onto the head if skull fragments
Remove skull fragments after the stop of the bleed. If possible. Do not open the skull
Disinfect the wound with iodine soaked gauze
Cover the wound with gauze (sterile)
After time has passed by a day you can clean the wound around with H2O. If it is NOT an open wound
The treatment included if you want to continue chase related activities. A rough sketch
If not, call someone and end chasing activities or something else.
Hope this helps

2024.05.21 19:00 StaffAlone I have an unnatural and anxious voice, even if my heart is not racing

I have a graduation project to do in the summer, I have to make a presentation and I imagine how it will go. I don't know, what to do in advance, so that I don't get a similar sound? When I try to resist, it's worse, and if I soften my tone, it's unnatural, looks I'm sleepy, there's no emotion in my voice and I have a feeling in my throat as I can't get my voice out. I don't know how to look at the picture, it mostly happens to me when I'm tired or my heart is racing. As soon as I feel, that my voice is changing, I become more anxious, if the voice sounds good - I am more attuned
What can I do to prevent it? One thing I think is to rest well, but sometimes I don't know when it coming. I'm thinking of going to a therapist too (I've never been), but I don't know how much it will help me? I tried a beta blocker, but it doesn't change anything, I just have trouble concentrating; This is also an additional problem for the presentation
I've had anxiety in general for years, especially when I got off the SSRI. The symptoms are as follows: fatigue, anxiety, neck pain, derealization, loss of concentration, lack of emotion.

2024.05.21 18:59 Sugam19882000 Insomnia after eating meat or dairy even in a small quantity after taking vitamin D 50000IU.

Hello, in 2020 I took 11 drops of methylcobalamin 5000mcg. A few minutes after I felt horrible. Nasal congestion, headache, anxiety, confusion and worse of all insomnia. I did not sleep for straight 48 hours and then slowly I started to sleep for 1-2 hours a day. For 2 years, I slept for 5-6 hours a day. Even the digestion worsened day by day, my intestines became hard and I could not digest anything like before. I felt intoxicated and my intestine was hard, initially, even my liver was in serious pain. In few months after taking methylcobalamin, every time I had even a little bit of dairy, I could not sleep again. This has remained for long.
Last year, I had pneumonia and took plenty of antibiotics and I noticed that my sleep had improved but every time I had dairy (yogurt) the insomnia would come back and if I take antibiotics again, the insomnia would disappear. My point is that most likely it is the gut bacteria that got altered after taking methylcobalamin. When I did a blood test, my homocysteine levels were high.
This year I tried a very small amount of multivitamin and symptoms came rushing. With some antibiotics again, they disappeared. Last month, I took some Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) 50000IU, all at once in a capsule and since this one time of taking this capsule I have insomnia after eating even a small amount of meat or dairy. Even if I eat it in the morning. I tried taking magnesium and potassium supplements but not much success.
I have been taken Vitamin D on multiple occasions but never had such symptoms. I have gut issues for years, most likely SIBO but also some gut inflammation I guess. I've lost 30 kgs in the past because of my gut issues caused antibiotics to kill H Pylori.
Can some explain why do I have these symptoms and how to get rid of them. My gut is feeling hard again. Am I oveunder methylated?

2024.05.21 18:43 Impressive-Sense-232 How do I make my mixed voice sound more mature?

I have a relatively normal sounding talking voice for a male I think. I can even sing low ( I don’t really like too less flexibility) but when I tend to belt? Or use a mixed voice? Not sure which it is I feel like I get a really bright nasally almost child like tone… idk how to fix this. When I sing I usually sing like this and it just sounds a bit strange to me. I do this because I can’t get the volume I want from using a head voice.
Is there something I can do to improve this?

2024.05.21 18:35 ReadyBreakfast7949 Death anxiety

I have been experiencing intense death anxiety, which is really scaring me. I am particularly afraid of the upcoming summer holiday and have a persistent fear that I will die on August 22. Whenever I hear about someone passing away, I feel an overwhelming sense that I am going to die, and I constantly imagine scenes of my grave and everyone mourning. These thoughts dominate my mind, and I can't seem to escape them.
I've also developed a fear of the number 11, often interpreting it as a sign that I am going to die. For example, if I see the number 11, I immediately think it means I will die. I am terrified that I might be manifesting my own death or that I somehow have an intuition about it. I don't want to think these thoughts, but they control me. I try to ignore them, but it's incredibly difficult. Sometimes, I feel good and think about how irrational my fears are, but then the anxiety returns, and I start overthinking again.
I keep thinking that everything I do is my last. For example, I worry that this will be the last time I see a film or study a subject. These thoughts are overwhelming and make it hard to enjoy anything. Additionally, I often feel physical sensations like my heart falling into my stomach or a sensation in my right chest as if there's water and something floating inside it.
Whenever I get sick, I tell myself that these are symptoms of death and I'll die .Sometimes I feel tingling sensations in my chest that I fear are signs!
Whenever I remember the past and when I was happy I feel sad and get scared that I'll never be happy like how I was ,because I'll be suffering from death anxiety forever. When people tell me that my thoughts aren't real, I don't get convinced I feel my thoughts, feelings and brain are stronger than me . I want to get convinced but something is stronger than me and like it's telling me "That's all in vain, U won't get convinced and you'll die" I'm scared that I'm manifesting my death by talking about it. I don't want to hear and listen all of that!
I hate the summer season because of the death anxiety. I like winter, but I'm keep telling myself that the winter has gone and it was my last winter and I'll die in summer or when I packed away the winter clothes and took out the summer ones, I felt something said that "I won't wear them again and I'll die in summer clothes.". I'm tired and scared of that I want to feel relaxed when thinking about these stuff!
Whenever I watch a movie, I tell myself that if a particular character dies, it means I'll die too. It feels like something else is saying this, not me, because I try to stop thinking it, but I can't. I want a solution other than seeing a therapist. I want to solve this problem by myself. (As I was writing this, I saw the number 11 on the clock, which made me even more anxious. Why does this happen when I am talking about death?)
I am really scared of dying during the summer holiday, especially on August 22. What if this fear is real? How can I know? What if I have the ability or grace to know my death in advance? When I searched for the meaning of 11 or 111, it said to trust my inner voice and intuition and that I am on the right path. Does that mean my thoughts about death are real?! People tell me not to search, but even if I don't, the idea and the meaning are saved in my mind.
Also, when I am in a car, I tell myself that if I see a car with the number 11, it means I'll die, and when I see it, I feel terrified. The same happens with the number 22 because I'm scared to die on August 22. I am scared that this is intuition.
Moreover, when I hear certain words like "future," "next year," "2025," "summer," "July," "August," "September," "University," etc., I feel suddenly scared and feel something in my stomach, like my brain is waiting to hear these words just to scare me. It's as if these words trigger my anxiety even more. I need some ways to help me other than seeing a therapist.
Based on what you’ve read, do you think my thoughts are a result of anxiety, or are they driven by intuition? Additionally, can intuition actually predict death? I need answers for all of my questions!
Does anyone have the same problem?

2024.05.21 18:19 NP_NP_ I feel like I'm in my own personal hell with this persistent ear fullness.

I have been suffering with left sided ear fullness since mid February!!!!! There was never any pain, but at first it was so bad it felt TOTALLY full and stuffy with muffled hearing and I could hear the echo of my own voice.
The ENT just looked into my ear, said it was normal, chalked it up to Eustachian tube dysfunction and told me I had to live with it/“it might go away but no promises”. I’m thinking of seeing another ent for a second opinion because I'm not satisfied with that.
I went to an Allergist about 6 weeks ago because I thought I had asthma like symptoms (life long allergy sufferer) and diagnosed me with silent reflux. With a perscription PPI, diet changes, and elevated sleeping my problem has resolved maybe 75-80%. He also is treating my normal allergies/post nasal drip. Allergies are totally managed now. Last time I saw him he suggested debrox to clean my ears (even though they’re completely clear). The debrox made it worse for a few days.
I'm grateful for having improvement but just hate this feeling! It’s a full feeling, mild pressure, with some pulsatile qualities when I’m physically exerting myself. If I close my mouth and hum really loud/hard/steady in a quiet room I can hear my heart beat. Even when I feel fine, I check to see if I can hear the heart beat - and it’s always there :( and it's postural, its only there depending on how I move my head.
I notice if I eat anything dairy/especially full fat dairy, it temporarily gets a lot worse. But he says if it were allergy related both ears would be equally effected.
My new GI doc has a tentative diagnosis of dyspepsia (instead of silent reflux) and is doing a full work up on me - but I forgot to mention the ear fullness to him!!! In my heart, I think this could be related to reflux but I want his opinion.
TLDR: At first I thought it was allergies (allergist says no, because it’s not bilateral), then I thought it was intracranial pressure (eye doc and retina specialist say I’m fine), then I thought it was reflux related - which, since starting treatment for reflux in the beginning of April, has made a nice improvement but not a full resolution. Now I’m wondering if it’s a straight up dairy intolerance?
I don’t know what to do!!!!!!!!!

2024.05.21 17:51 BestContribution6615 Has Anyone Else Noticed the Strange Sound She Makes When Speaking?

Has anybody noticed a change in the way she talks lately? Maybe it’s just me, but there seems to be a strange, almost spit-like sound when she speaks. It’s hard to describe. It’s not really nasally or throaty, but could it be that her lip fillers are affecting her speech? This persistent spit noise has become all I can hear when she talks. Honestly, it’s gotten to the point where I find it super distracting and kind of gross.
When I compare her old videos to the new ones, her voice used to be much crisper. Now, it just sounds like she has too much spit in her mouth. I know this sounds gross, but it’s true. It’s almost as if her mouth shape has changed. Her tongue, lips, and the roof of her mouth seem to stick together in a way that wasn’t noticeable before. This might be totally random, or maybe someone’s already pointed it out, or perhaps I’m just being sensitive to sounds. It’s just really weird and totally driving me crazy. Now, when I listen to her talk, that weird, spitty sound is all I can hear.

2024.05.21 17:40 Imaginary-North-5811 6-Month BFS/FND Neurology Update - Doing Better!

First off, I just want to express how thankful I (32, F, USA) am to everyone who contributes to this subreddit. Reading your stories has helped me immensely in dealing with these issues and made me realize that I am not alone in dealing with this. I’m so happy I can finally say to this group — it gets better.
If you’ve seen any of my previous posts, BFS is/was not my sole diagnosis. I also have a condition called functional neurological disorder (FND) which essentially causes the brain to send incorrect signals to the rest of the body, causing a multitude of symptoms that can be very disabling. After being previously very healthy and fit, my symptoms started with weakness in the legs in early 2023 and progressed to bodywide weakness, widespread near-constant muscle twitching, cramps, and gait issues about six months after. At 9 months, I had a chronic cough, breathing difficulty, no voice, and frequently was choking on food. I was using a combination of a cane and wheelchair to get around because my legs always felt like jello and were hard to move.
After months of medical stress and hospitalizations, being treated for the wrong condition (MG), and being bounced between neurologists, I finally went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville in December 2023, had my third and final EMG, and was given the dual DX, starting my road to recovery.
Since I visited Mayo, I have been doing absolutely everything in my power to manage these issues and not let them stop me from living my life. I still work full-time, take care of my child, and manage to run my household though I’ve had to make a few adjustments and beef up my support system. I also do PT, swimming, and take a multitude of supplements (B12, D, CoQ10, magnesium, lions mane, and GABA). I started taking 40 MG of cymbalta about 2 months ago which has led (in combination) to a huge improvement in symptoms.
I am still dealing with a lot of the same issues but overall I have gotten a great deal better - my voice/breathing/swallowing issues have almost resolved entirely. I'm told there’s no secret standard recipe but for me personally using GABA with SSNRI really helped my get over the initial hump. Once I was able to see that my symptoms were not in fact progressing and that I did not have a deadly incurable disease, things started to improve more quickly. I still use a cane to walk ~50% of the time and a wheelchair in certain situations where I anticipate an issue (i.e grocery stores or airports where there’s a lot of sensory input). When it’s quiet and my mind is at peace, I can even walk for about an hour at a time now (slowly and awkwardly).
Having some perspective now, I absolutely hated it (and still do!) when doctors would say, “it’s just anxiety” or some variation of the phrase. I do not consider myself an anxious person. I do not feel anxious and mentally I appear extremely cool, calm, and collected. It didn’t make sense and I assumed my doctors were just gaslighting me, which is in fact a very common experience for women. BUT — I’ve come to realize this is precisely the issue and it's way more than anxiety. My brain has somehow entered such a profound freeze response that I can barely blush without spiraling into a new physical symptom of maladaptive processing. Even being conscious of this, I can’t control it at all. I've come to realize that I am chronically, deeply, and malignantly overstimulated and stressed from ignoring and suppressing my own physical, emotional, and sensory needs for WAY too long and my entire nervous system is on a hair trigger.
I regret to inform you that I still twitch — it seems nothing can make this stop entirely. I just kind of don’t care as much— it doesn’t really distract me or cause me to worry— it’s just as annoying and weird as it’s always been. I also started having tremors and seizures at night recently which is really scary but benign and related to FND, per neurologist. I plan to start working with a psychiatrist to get a better handle on these issues and making some further lifestyle changes.
Wishing you twitchers all the best in your journey and recovery— I probably won’t post as much here as I’m trying to not over-focus on medical issues but just wanted to drop in and give you an update since many of you have reached out in DMs. Some advice — look for times when your symptoms are better and work with those moments to prove to yourself you can improve and that there is variability. Find a doctor that you trust and that takes you seriously, even if it takes 10 tries.. a lot of them mean well but are also kind of awful at communication. Have testing done if it puts your mind at ease but don't assume it is incorrect when it yields nothing. Stop googling. Take a walk in nature and hug your family.
It will be okay!!!

2024.05.21 17:31 Octo13_Meg No significant symptoms??

Brief history. A year ago I had a staph infection in my sinuses. CT scan confirmed all sinus cavities were full, everything was swollen, I was a hot mess. Suffering from daily headaches, stuffy nose, etc. Prescribed strong antibiotics and it cleared. She had suggested surgery because of the anatomy of my sinuses but I didn’t do it at the time. I rarely have sinus issues so I didn’t think it was necessary.
Since that time I’ve had zero headaches, no sinus pressure, can breathe 💯 though my nose. Only issue is sometimes I can “smell” my sinuses if that makes sense. Also have some post nasal drip but not significant.
Went to the ENT a few weeks ago because I suspected a CSF leak (clear fluid leaking from one side of my nose when I bent over, no other symptoms). She ordered another CT scan and this time my Maxillary sinuses (both) are 💯 obstructed. I suspect they’ve been that way for a while, even though I don’t have any traditional symptoms.
Doctor is again suggesting surgery to correct a deviated septum with bone spur, and open up my sinuses so they can drain. I’m hesitant to move forward with surgery since I don’t really have a quality of life issue associated with the filled sinuses.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Would you move forward with the surgery despite not really having issues?

2024.05.21 17:24 sunnybear990 foxtail in dog’s nose

hi! i took my 6 yr old lab on a walk yesterday — i’m very vigilant about foxtails but he sniffed a patch of plain dirt that i guess had some cut foxtails in it and started sneezing.
i immediately grabbed his nose and saw a foxtail in his left nostril. i tried to pull it out, but couldn’t, and it slipped deeper into his nose, so i rushed him to the vet. we got there less than an hour after it happened, and he was seen about 2 hours later.
they sedated him, put a small scope in his nose, checked his mouth, and checked his paws, but couldn’t find anything. they suspect that it was sneezed out at some point or that it could even have been swallowed. i don’t recall him sneezing much after the first sneeze attack, but i suppose it could have happened in the car while i was transporting him.
the uncertainty is killing me — does what they’re saying sound plausible? i’m concerned that it migrated into his nasal cavity. not sure whether that comes with pretty obvious symptoms or if it’s really easy to miss. i’m so so scared about it migrating into an organ.
has this ever happened to you? any help is so appreciated. thank you!
