Milatary surplus

I have i respect for those who have served and i do not wish to upset any groups of these fine people. Im aware that most of them are pretty ruff and tumble but ove seen some things that can set them off. So i know some thing not to touch but incase im wrong im not going to list them so service members please tell me your beleifs it okay for a civy to modify your equipment. Extra stuff: so if your curuis what i want to do i mainly want to paibt ammo cans and crates to more match my style just kinda black them out fox any bumbs and dents i find im scrappy at heart so i love giving new live to things but id hate to ruin something if someone else still values it. I would not modify anything rare or attempt stolen valor i Would not buy anything or change anything to impersonate a member of a a true armed forces but is it ok to use your surplus for cosplay and airsoft like i just worry im disrespecting history by using this stuff
Tldr: i want to use milatary surplus but want to make sure i dont disrespect it .

One day a plane was falling out of the sky and this was "Berlin airlines flight 136" among the flight were 295 passengers it was a flight going to Brazil, South America from Berlin, Germany this flight was going down due to engine fire the engines were turned off and they were slowly drifting through the sky at a altitude of 200,00 feet and decreasing they have to land but they were over the sea and a meer 500 miles from any close airport soon after the engine fire the electrical wires caught fire losing power onboard the plane in the cockpit the decide to turn on the emergency power which on only powers the cockpit soon after they get in contact with the Colombian international airport and they say divert your route to Brazil and head to Columbia but they were 234 miles from Colombia and they only had 10-20 miles before hitting the carinbean sea where they would all get hypothermia and die in a matter of minutes. They are now 10,000 feet in the air and the captain Ben Daniels tells first officer Jack Robinson to go to the passengers and relieve them he does his orders while Ben is struggling with keep the plane from crashing while he is sure they are dead he finds a small island on his radar and it is called the isle of Lisa he has heared of this island the isle of Lisa was a nuclear test site in World War II it was used from 1939-1941 and was eventually left after a nuclear missile had fail its launch and exploded and was radiated Ben knows it is a bad idea to land on a radiated deserted island but he is now only 5,000 feet above the sea so in hope he decides to bring the 2 engines back to life and the fire was gone so they started to go up and eventually they make it back up to 15,000 feet back 5 minutes had pasted and engine 1 explodes taking of the left wing this is not only bad but the mark of the first death mark las a 62 year old man had gotten stabed in the neck because of the glass that had exploded on impact of the engine explosion jack runs back to the cockpit to ask what has happened Ben tells him the story and jack leaves the cockpit they were just above 2,000 feet and Ben deicides it he is determined to land on the isle of Lisa he has found a safe landing area and tells the passengers 3 words brace for impact 30 seconds pass and they hit the ground at a very high speed and soon after sliding the middle of the plane was cut in half and leaving the back end to fall back and explode nobody had made it out of the back end... Meanwhile the front end of the plane was racing down the ground and eventually they come to a stop when everybody got out of plane they had realized they were in a field and that the radiation is no longer here captain Ben has counted everybody who is still alive and sadly out of 295 passengers only 24 were alive soon after Ben had realized that first officer jack is dead he was helping the passengers in the back part of the plane while there plane was beaten down the commuicater barely worked Ben contacts the interstate airport of Florida and told them that they were in the isle of Lisa but that's all that they could get through the communicator and captain Ben had ordered that 12 people will scavenge the back end of plane to see if anything was there that could be useful such as food blankets and even chairs and the other 12 will do the same expect they will scavenge the front end of the plane meanwhile back at Florida they alert Berlin airlines that one of there planes have just crashed on the isle of Lisa but they are are not sure which flight had gone down but German airlines contacts all of there liners in the air and all of them responded expect 1 they tell Florida that German Airlines flight 136 was not there soon after Florida sends 3 small regional aircrafts out to Lisa and while they are coming the 24 passengers prepare for night fall they have found a surplus of blankets enough chairs to snap in half and make beds and around enough food to last for 1.5 weeks but even though they had enough blankets it dropped to 28 degrees at night so they go inside the plane where it is warmer the next morning the passengers started looking for water which is one resource they do not have after a little while they have found a small lake and tell the other passengers meanwhile back at the planes they have detected Lisa on there radars but they notice that the ability to fly is getting harder plane 2 finally gave out and started falling at a rapid speed of 500 miles a hour but with luck they manage to pull up and they are flying again but they are confused so they contact Florida and ask what has happened they say they do not know plane 2 had actually passed all the safety tests while back at the plane crash everybody is gathering sticks leaves grass etc... To board up the front of the plane to conserve heat 1 hour later passes and something crazy happens the plane has regained its power and lights heating and even the cockpit controls are fine they are confused captain Ben checks it out somehow the electrical cords are perfectly fine but everybody is quite all right with it since he has power Ben rushes to the communicator and contacts Florida everybody in the airport is shocked but they tells them about the 3 planes on the ways but they also mention plane 2... But plane 2 hadn't known there locaton when they lost control and regained control they had lost it when they entered Lisa and they regained it when they left the operator is getting a hold of the 3 planes so they can talk to ben but they got no answer they try again and to there surprise they do get a answer and they are yelling and screaming apperently they have lost all control to the planes so they had to land quick and to there success they did but they had noticed a old Milatary base in the distance thats not what had scared them it was the fact they believe they saw people they also tell them why all 4 plans might crashed they saw a tower in the middle of the base that looked like it would interfere with plane/ship controls but that doesn't explain why Berlin air has power but they realize it might be because there plane was maybe pushed a little out of distance so there plane is fine but they realize what they to do they have to find each other and take out the tower and like that all 4 capatins leave to go find each other Ben tells the passengers to come with them and to his surprise they do after a long while of searching they have found each other and they tell the passengers to get inside the 3 jets while they try to knock out the tower Ben sees what they were talking about its a huge tower all 4 of them are able to get inside due to bad security and they put on world war 2 solider suits and get access to enter the tower when they get there the lock all of the doors to enter the tower luckly inside of the pockets of there suits were grenades and Been sets his off making the tower explode while this is happening they unlock the doors in time to escape but it wasnt easy they soldiers charged them they looked like there in there 80 or 90s while back at the plane they see they tower explode in the distance but it is succeeded with a flash of light and power all 3 planes come back to life all 4 captains run back to the planes with just a split second they get aboard before they start shooting they start shooting the planes but luckily all planes are able to take off and leave they flying back to Florida all 28 people are alive but 18 of them are injured one of them being captain Ben but the panic calms down and they realize they are safe for now...

So my question is are any milatary surplus gas mask okay for airsoft. Also what are your thoughts on gas masks in airsoft.
