An L-system or Lindenmayer system is a parallel rewriting system and a type of formal grammar. An L-system consists of an alphabet of symbols that can be used to make strings, a collection of production rules that expand each symbol into some larger string of symbols, an initial "axiom" string from which to begin construction, and a mechanism for translating the generated strings into geometric structures... 2024.05.19 12:17 SillyWerewolfGirl He broke up with me because of my mental health

[19F] Navigating a relationship since I was just 14 and he was 18, meeting online, and then finally getting to hang out in person was like a dream come true. We shared everything, from silly inside jokes to deeper fears and anxieties. But my constant battle with anxiety and panic attacks was always lurking in the background, casting a shadow over our otherwise happy moments
When a stressful family event hit, I felt like I was drowning. I couldn't handle the pressure, and I resorted to self-harm. It was a dark and scary time, but I knew I had to reach out for help. Confiding in my mom was the first step, and before I knew it, I found myself in a mental hospital, with my boyfriend by my side, holding my hand and telling me how proud he was of me for being brave enough to seek help
But the road to recovery wasn't smooth sailing. The medication they gave me at the hospital made things worse before they got better. My panic attacks became even more intense, and I felt like I was losing control. I turned to my boyfriend for support, pouring my heart out to him about how tired I was of fighting and how I just wanted the pain to end. And then, out of nowhere, he dropped the bombshell..he was breaking up with me... (also before my birthday)
I felt like the ground had been pulled out from under me. The one person I thought would always be there for me had turned his back on me when I needed him the most. And to make matters worse, his mom, who had always been so sweet to me, suddenly cut me off completely. It felt like I was losing everyone I cared about, and it sent my panic attacks into overdrive
In the midst of all this chaos, I turned to therapy and medication for some semblance of stability. And slowly, ever so slowly, things started to improve. But despite the progress I was making, I couldn't shake the feeling of longing for my ex-boyfriend. I wanted to show him that I had changed, that I was getting better, but every attempt I made to reach out to him was met with silence or rejection. Started telling me how he doesn't think about me anymore and even if we would get back together he might loose one of his best friend ... And he also called me a narcissist.. :(
I'm trying to push forward but it's getting harder and harder... I'm sorry for doing the stuff I've done and I'm sorry for being like this ... I'm really trying to get better ... I still love him A LOT and I'm sorry for being impulse and trying to send him messages now even though he doesn't wanna hear from me anymore...I miss him .... I haven't ate in 4 days and I find myself going to sleep with anxiety and waking up with anxiety.
Please tell me what can I do now...??

Clinic Reputation: Read patient reviews and testimonials to gauge the clinic's reputation. Positive feedback often indicates high-quality service.
Technology and Techniques: Ensure the clinic uses the latest techniques and equipment. Advanced technology can enhance the precision and outcome of the transplant.
Cost: While cost should not be the sole determining factor, it is important to understand the pricing structure and what it includes. Compare prices among clinics to find a balance between affordability and quality.
Consultation Process: A thorough consultation should be part of the process. This allows the surgeon to assess your condition and discuss the best treatment options.

2024.05.19 12:06 itsallalittleblurry2 In Memory

Bud be gone 16 years later this month. Don’t hardly seem possible. Still remember him as if I just saw and spoke to him yesterday. The way of it. Miss him a lot, and so does Momma. Also the way of it. Get to thinking about him a lot this time each year.
Not as raw and brutal as it used to be. Had some dark days for both of us for quite a while. Again, the way of it. But acceptance comes eventually, when there’s no other choice.
I try to console myself that he lived life large in the 21 years he had - didn’t waste ‘em. Got to see and do places and things that comparatively few do. Was involved in things he felt were important.
I loved him dearly, and was admiring and proud of the man he’d become. And I told him so quite often. Advice from someone who’d not always as bright as he might be, but who nevertheless understands some basic things: say what Should be said when you have the chance. The words are important, even if they already know. Don’t, and the day might come when it’s now too late to.
He was the wild one of our brood - seems like every family has one. Not troublesome in any way for Momma and me. He asked me a serious question once, when he was 16: “Dad, you and Mom hardly ever whipped us when we were kids. How come?”
And my answer a simple one: “We didn’t need to. You were good kids.” He’d thought that over, and nodded his acceptance.
A disciplinary problem aboard his ship sometimes, though, and this didn’t surprise either of us. A different world with different rules. And he never accepted insult from anyone from the time he was small - just not in his nature. Push, and he’d push back.
But by every account we heard, very serious and disciplined when it came to his job. This didn’t surprise us, either. His primary rating Firefighter aboard ship, he’d often complain that the training wasn’t Realistic enough. To the extent that a superior had remarked once in exasperation: “Well, we can’t set the damn ship on fire for you, Bud!”
Well-known and liked throughout the crew, he was something of a minor legend among them. Famous (or infamous - take your pick) for the situations he got himself into to the point that after a while, anyone in trouble beyond the usual was referred to as having “Pulled a Bud.”
Fighting several members of Shore Patrol on one memorable occasion: “It took six of ‘em to get him under control and back to the ship, Mr. OP.” A friend.
With several members of the local PD on an even more memorable one, when he took offense at the treatment of a shipmate.
He’d paid for that one on the way to and at the station. Being thrown headlong down a set of cement stairs with his hands still cuffed behind his back he figured he’d had coming. Ditto with then being picked up and rammed headfirst into a cinder block wall.
Being stripped naked, tossed in a cell, and having a fire hose turned on him every hour on the hour all night he’d objected to: “That shit was Cold, Pop! And it was fucking unnecessary! I catch any of ‘em out alone, I got somethin’ for their ass!”
“You gotta stop this shit, Bud.”
“……Sigh…I know. Do me a favor - don’t tell Mom?”
“I don’t intend to.”
“……Pop?”
“Yeah?”
“Captain says the same thing. Says this is my last chance…….Why’s he giving me another chance, after all the trouble I’ve caused?”
“Because he sees something in you he wants to keep - something of value to the ship. You can be counted on to do your job, no matter what. That carries a lot of weight in the civilian world - more so in the military.”
“…..You think so?”
“I know so.”
One of the last conversations, and over the phone, we’d ever have.
An old Chief remarked to us: “Bud was a throwback. He reminded me of the fighting Sailors of my own youth. I hadn’t met another quite like him in a good many years. He’ll be missed.”
His Captain remarked to me: “He turned it around, Mr. OP. It was as if he made a decision. There wasn’t another single incident of insubordination or anything else. In all my years of service, I’ve never seen anyone do so complete a 180. He’d made his mind up, and that was that. But I guess I don’t have to tell you that. He was actually due for promotion. Did you know that?”
I had. Bud had told me he’d studied for and passed the test. Perfect score, or near enough. He’d broken his hand at the time. A timed test, and his writing hand, he’d been afraid the cast would slow him down too much, so he’d cut it off and gone to get it redone afterward.
Last time I spoke to him, he had some shipmates were in Galveston during Mardi Gras. Out on the promenade. Sounds of revelry in the background. Shakedown cruise in preparation for another deployment.
Presently, to his impatient shipmates: “Just give me a damn minute, all right?! Listen, I guess I better go. Love you, Pop. And tell Mom that for me when she gets home, ok?”
“I will. Love you, too, Bud.”
Good last words to remember, I guess.
All through the days and nights we’d spent in the hospital, waiting, and hoping against hope, Momma and I hadn’t been alone. My brothers were there with us, having driven in from out of state. My sister. Mother.
And his crew. Day and night, young men and women waiting with us in great numbers. Lying sleeping on the floor against the walls lining the corridors, when all other spaces had been taken. None of the hospital staff asking them to leave.
Ship’s Officers and senior Enlisted spending as much time there as presentations for deployment would permit. Checking in in person with us and hospital staff about his condition at least once a day.
And nearly all of them with a story or two to tell about Bud. Many of them funny. For that was who he was, too. He could always make people laugh. Someone being down in his presence he couldn’t abide, and he always knew how to fix that.
It was as if they Needed to. And that Momma and I understood, as well. We’d known him all his life, and we could see that they knew him, too. So we were patient, and we listened.
The day finally came when we were told there was no longer any hope at all. He’d never regained consciousness, and now there was no more brain activity at all. He was gone.
His XO was there with us when we were told, and that large, strong man wept bitterly and unashamedly. I think that probably doesn’t happen often.
Momma and I were alone the next day, in a seated waiting area next to the elevators. Waiting, just the two of us, not speaking much. Everyone had given us that space to ourselves. Sensed that we needed it, I suppose.
The first man arriving with a refrigerated transport case arrived, and took the elevator down. He seemed in a hurry. A man who desperately needed Bud’s strong heart was waiting, and time was of the essence.
Momma and I watched the doors close behind him. Then we both got up, and hand in hand, walked away. It was finished now. The book of his life was closed, though in a sense it never would be.
A few months previous, he’d registered as an organ donor. His choice.
His heart went to a 31-yr-old man in need of a new one.
A young woman in North Dakota sees through his eyes.
Many others were helped, as well. His parting gifts.
Talking to the coordinator of the donor program at the hospital at a later date, I was informed that the man’s new heart was functioning perfectly. He had, in fact, been going to the gym and hitting the weights. Something he’d had no interest in before.
“Lifting and bodybuilding were some of Bud’s passions” I replied.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time” the man had replied in kind. “And you’d be astonished at how many times something like that happens; the recipient unknowingly taking on attributes of the donor. No one can explain it.”

I recently tried on the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt and was intrigued by its unique graphic print. The dark green crewneck fit comfortably, featuring short sleeves and a slightly loose fit. As someone who appreciates the use of organic cotton, I was happy to see that this t-shirt was made from 100% of it, making it a great eco-friendly choice.
The ribbing on the collar added a nice touch of comfort. However, the graphic print might not be everyone's cup of tea, so it's essential to consider personal style preferences before purchasing. Overall, the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt is a comfortable and stylish addition to any wardrobe, especially for those who love the brand's logo.

I recently added the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt in black to my wardrobe, and let me tell you, it has quickly become a staple piece. The 100% organic cotton used in this tee not only makes it super comfy but also eco-friendly, which I love. The graphic print of the playful cat sticker adds a unique touch that sets it apart from other t-shirts I own. However, I must admit that the fit is a bit loose compared to other t-shirts I have tried, which might not suit everyone's preference.
Overall, the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt has become a go-to choice for casual outings and everyday wear. Its lightweight material makes it perfect for sunny days, and the short sleeves give it a versatile touch. Despite the slightly loose fit, I am definitely a fan of this tee and can't wait to see what other designs Carhartt WIP has to offer!

🔗Comfortable Carhartt Long-Sleeve T-Shirt with Sun Protection

https://preview.redd.it/nsadi8f0xc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3027bdd660af81b207a303bed1eefd0b673cb7b2
I recently had the opportunity to try on the Carhartt Men's Force Hooded T-Shirt, and it exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort and style. The first thing that caught my attention was the material composition, which is designed to wick away sweat and dry quickly. This made it perfect for long days at work or outdoor activities.
The fit of the shirt was also spot-on, with a relaxed style that allowed me to move freely without any discomfort. I particularly loved the hidden pocket, which proved useful for keeping essential items close at hand without being too obvious. The hood was also a nice touch, providing both warmth and protection against the elements.
However, there was one downside to this shirt. The washing instructions recommend using a mild detergent, which can be a bit of a hassle for some people. Additionally, I noticed that the shirt is not as durable as some of its counterparts, which could be an issue for those who require a more robust and long-lasting option.
Despite these minor setbacks, I truly enjoyed wearing the Carhartt Men's Force Hooded T-Shirt. It provides a great balance between comfort, style, and functionality, making it a worthy addition to any wardrobe.

🔗Comfortable and Stylish Carhartt Branded Long Sleeve T-Shirt

Recently, I had the pleasure of trying out the Carhartt Long Sleeve Logo T-Shirt - Men's Carbon Heather. It's a reliable and quality choice for my daily life. The long sleeve design is perfect for working comfortably every day, no matter what the weather is like where you are.
The first thing that stands out about this shirt is its durability. With its rib-knit crewneck and cuffs, it feels like it can withstand even the most demanding tasks. I appreciate the side-seam construction, which minimizes twisting and keeps me comfortable all day long. The brand signature logo printed on the sleeve adds a nice touch, making it a stylish option for work or play.
One of the best features of this shirt is its comfort level. Made with 100% cotton jersey knit, it has a soft feel against the skin. I love how the tagless neck label eliminates any skin irritation typically caused by regular neck tags.
However, there's one minor concern that I had. After using it for a while, I noticed that the shirt seemed to shrink a little bit. It's not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of if you're planning on purchasing this shirt. Additionally, I found that the shirt seemed to fade slightly over time, which was a little disappointing.
Overall, the Carhartt Long Sleeve Logo T-Shirt is a comfortable, durable, and stylish option for men who need a reliable long-sleeve shirt for their daily lives. I recommend giving it a try, but be mindful of the potential shrinkage and fading issues.

🔗Carhartt Men's Sun Defender Graphic T-Shirt

https://preview.redd.it/hjbnsgi1xc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20b343ae2602194aef6534ef2671f231683f8f9b
This Carhartt Men's Force Sun Defender Long-Sleeve T-Shirt is perfect for those sunny days. The 100% polyester fabric, with a 4-ounce weight, feels light and airy, keeping you cool while you're out and about. The FastDry technology wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and comfy.
One of the most impressive features is the Sun Defender UPF 50+ UV protection, which means you won't have to worry about the sun's harmful rays when you're wearing this t-shirt. The smooth flatlock seams add a touch of comfort to your skin, eliminating any chance of rubbing or chafing.
The Carhartt "C" graphic on the left chest and another on the left sleeve not only make a stylish statement, but also give the shirt added durability. The tagless neck label is a nice little touch that adds to the overall comfort of the shirt, as it prevents irritation on your neck.
Overall, this is a great product that offers not only style but also functionality. It's perfect for those who want to stay protected from the sun while looking fashionable. However, one downside I noticed was that it might not be the best option for those who prefer a looser fit, as it can be a bit snug around the arms. But all in all, if you can overlook that, this would be a fantastic addition to your wardrobe.

Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".

All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

2024.05.19 12:00 LilliepupYT (At LEAST) One Headcanon For Every (Former) Chromatic!

SO LIKE- I MADE THE WORST HEADCANONS EVER THE OTHER DAY- SO HERE'S A FEW FOR THE OLD CHROMATICS
Gale - He actually has a bit of a playful side, and he's nice to anyone who's nice to him. (If) he has time off, he'll sometimes help Lou with his snow cone business, usually simply by suggesting better locations to sell them at than Mystic Mountain.
Surge - He and Brock are really close friends. He's one of the reasons that Brock even gets out (Ofc not excluding 8-Bit and Rico). He's 100% more of a show-off than an actual hero. Also, his favorite games are DDR's.
Colette - She and Edgar are cousins, so she always pesters him by either ranting about HER headcanons, fanfics, and who she's currently obsessed with. She also often tries to pressure R-T into telling her juicy secrets about the Brawlers.
Lou - He's actually friends with Surge, and they've been trying to perfect an energy drink-flavored snow cone for quite some time. Lou's also completely oblivious to why his snow cones aren't selling.
Colonel Ruffs - While he may seem tough, he has a soft side. He loves being pet and playing fetch, but would do anything to not admit it. He also feels a bit like a father to Squeak, and doesn't seem to notice Eve's feelings for him.
Belle - She's one of the smartest Brawlers in the entire park. She's not actually a villain, and she only steals as a vain attempt to run the park broke. The only thing she and her gang's been able to do is annoy them.
Buzz - He absolutely loves being in control of any and every situation he's in. When under pressure, he's actually a decent leader. He took his job as a lifeguard for 2 reasons: The authority, and so that he could sit in the tall lifeguard chairs to make up for his height.
Ash - (Oh boy, one of my favorites. Now which one do I choose...) Ash created the R. A. T. S. Bots himself, and he somewhat treats them as if they were his kids. He hates Kit for multiple reasons. While in battle he can get pretty upset, most of the time he's actually mundane.
Fun Fact: It's canon that Ash wants to be an actor, (In the Spanish version of Brawl Stars, it says it in his bio. See for yourself)
Lola - She hates Mico with every fiber of her existence. She only deals with Gray since he doesn't talk, but still gets upset when he "gets in the way". Her favorite thing to do is to see how dramatic she can make a situation.
Fang - He's usually the one dragging Buster into most of their chaotic situations. He surprisingly gets along well with Lola. He's also really into sports, especially baseball and football. Soccer is a close third.
Eve - At first, when joining the Starr Force, she simply wanted to be with Ruffs to support her kids. Over time she realized she had more complex feelings. She has mixed feelings about the Botany trio.
Janet - Friends at the beginning, her relationship with Melodie quickly shifted into a rivalry when she started to take a more "aggressive" approach when it came to their music. A lot of the time Janet's responsible for Bonnie, which can easily get out-of-hand.
Otis - He likes messing with Hank, but never takes it too far, since he's actually a bit scared of him. His favorite places to graffiti consist of the surrounding area of the Stunt Arena (What I like to call the Stunt Show area), within the Velocirapids water park, and even on the Fantasy Castle walls.
Sam - He used to love robots, and was decent a making them, until the incident that left Belle with only one arm. He claims he hates them, but he actually still likes them, he just doesn't put as much trust into them anymore.
Buster - While he's slightly more cautious than Fang, he still gets into a lot of trouble with him. He only wears sunglasses to try to look cool and menacing, which actually surprisingly works with some people.
Mandy - Chester's her adopted brother. She likes having him around sometimes so she can let her anger run loose a bit on him when no one else is there. She hates to admit it, but she's a bit impressed of how high Chester's social status is.
R-T - (OH GOD- We got to my other favorite. Uhm-) He's fluent in sign language. Despite literally his entire existence being to answer and interact with the visitors, he's a bit introverted. He's also pretty jumpy, but can be menacing when he wants. He's somewhat like a little brother to the twins, but also the leader. He actually has a bit of a chaotic side to him, but his programming blocks most of it out.
Not-So Fun Fact: His two halves are sentient, the upper half being more stick-to-the-program, while the lower half is more of the heart, creating relationships with the other Brawlers. When he's all together, he has internal conflict. :(
Maisie - She loves the thrill of danger, which is why she's dealt with Fang and Buster for so long. She also loves watching horror films, and practically any other movie or show that's high in adrenaline.
Cordelius - He may be hostile to strangers, but he's also really protective of his friends. His closest friend is Lily, who when he met, despite his usual hostile demeanor, took her right in with almost no questions asked.
Pearl - Sam had actually built her a long time ago as a gift for Belle before the incident. When he re-discovered her, he decided to give her a chance. She quickly became like a daughter to them.
Charlie - She's actually Gus's older sister (He was born AFTER their family moved from France). While he was into ghosts, she always loved spiders. She owns 2 pet tarantulas, named Flux and Tango.
THIS TOOK ME AN HOUR WHAT- MOST OF THESE I HAD TO COME UP WITH ON THE SPOT SINCE THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE IN PARTS- WHOOPS

2024.05.19 12:00 aphr0ditekaytee Got dumped and killed a party member at…

Withers’s after party during the epilogue.
Backstory: I was trying to romance Wyll during the game and he dumped me because he wanted to be the duke instead. So… I killed him and threw him in a river outside the house of grief during act 3 cause it was a rude dude move.
At the end of act 3 he spontaneously appeared in his tightie whities. Rose from the dead. Anyways.
He was at the after party obviously, living his duke dreams. I talked to him and he didn’t say one single thing about our relationship. All he talked about was his dukely duties. He didn’t even ask what I’ve been up to. Another rude dude move. So… I killed him. Fuck that guy.
Well… that pissed Withers off. He waltzed up to me and said “you’ve travelled with these hoes through hardship, yet that still didn’t stop you from killing one of them. Im tired of your shit bitch” and sent me through a green portal. I was banished. Did he send me to hell? I don’t know. The credits rolled right after.
I felt shame. Withers made me feel shame. I didn’t even do an evil play through, I was just a lowly lockadin that got her heart crushed by a rude dude with horns. Sorry Withers. But I’m not sorry about you, Wyll.

2024.05.19 11:57 Interesting_Tangelo1 My cat is destroying me (and my carpets)

Might be a lengthy read.. I always try to give as much detail as possible..
My Mathias is a 7/8 year old neutered male. I found him during a road trip at a truck stop in the middle of no where when he was about a year old. Love him to death. He's the sweetest boy.
We moved to a new apartment back in November. He was great for a few weeks and then everything went downhill again and my carpets were ruined in my living room. In case anyone is wondering, yes, the issues were present anywhere else we've lived as well..
Believe me, I know taking him to the vet is the first step. I took him twice within a month since December last year. Blood work, urine test, fecal test, x-ray.. $1000 later and they said he's slightly constipated, but other than that, completely healthy. He was on dry food up until then because I actually had no idea wet food was better. So since then, he's been fully on wet food with probiotics and Metamucil added (vet recommended). I know saying to go to the vet is the best advice in this scenario usually, but I really wanted to make clear that he's gone and he's healthy.
More context that might be important.. He's fat. He lived with my family while I was in school, and ballooned up in weight. So right now he's on a diet and he's not a very happy camper. So.. not perfectly healthy, but he doesn't have a UTI and his kidneys/heart/etc are fine.
Over the last couple weeks he's started peeing on the carpets in my bedroom. The living room is blocked off so he can't get to the carpeting in there anymore. I'm losing my mind. Last weekend when I barely opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was him peeing. Thing is, he does this and then runs to his food bowl. Maybe 30 minutes ago I turned around and he was peeing in that same spot again. And when I got up to grab paper towels, he ran straight to his bowl. Is this to get my attention? I typically feed him right when I wake up, so when he peed last weekend, I waited nearly an hour to feed him. I didn't want him to think that pee = food. I'm not sure if that was right to do, but I wasn't taking any chances.
I tried everything I saw when I read on reddit about people in similar situations. But I usually end up seeing most advice being about taking the cat to the vet, which is why I'm making my own post.. I've gotten additional litter boxes, different typed of boxes (high sides, low sides, extra wide, etc) I've used different litter (he ended up only liking the one he's always used), I clean the boxes 2 times a day, I've moved the boxes to where he's peeing and he will use it, but he'll still go on the floor next to it. I got a litter robot and then returned it because he wouldn't use it.. I've done almost everything I can think of except hire a behaviorist.
His behavior typically is very laid back. He just wants to be pet and take naps. He'll usually lay on his back next to me so I can scratch his tummy. He likes to play with my hands and run around. Nothing about him tells me he's stressed or unhappy, but I could be wrong? I figured the move at first would definitely stress him out.. but 6 months?
I'm exhausted. I've lived here for 6 months now and I will not have any friends over because I'm SO embarrassed of the smell. It's awful. Those of you who have had cats like this know the toll this takes on your mental health.. I've had this cat for almost a decade. Giving him away is literally the last thing I want to do. But I can't do this for another 5-10 years. I'm at my limit. He's been banished from my bedroom tonight and I put his beds in the kitchen (tile flooring). It breaks my heart leaving him alone like that. I just don't know what to do.
Please, if anyone has dealt with a cat like this, let me know if anything you did helped.. Recommendations for cleaning products to get rid of the smell would be great too.. I've made my peace knowing I'm not getting my security deposit back.. Thanks <3

2024.05.19 11:56 papintheskywdiamonds True story that happened to me a while ago

Hi, I'm 22 now and this happened to me 6 years ago, I'm from eastern Europe and in my country it's quite common to drink alcohol at the age of 16, so this one night me and my friend decided to get absolutely hammered at my house, we are neighbours, we drank loads of beer and just talked about life, we were getting pretty drunk so I suggested to go on a walk in a nearby park that was only about 100m away from our house, we got there, sat down and continued drinking, about 30 minutes had passed and I noticed a guy in his mid 40s wearing a suit, sitting down only a few benches away from us holding a black briefcase, I thought it was weird because it was 2:30 am, I kind of felt uneasy and started to sober up but my buddy had his lights out already, I noticed the guy mumbling something, not towards us but just talking to himself, that's when I decided it was time to leave, got my friend up put arm over his shoulder and we started to walk slowly to our house, few seconds later this guy also stands up and starts to walk in our direction, I got scared as he approached, he came to us and asked if we needed any help, I politely declined and started to walk while also dragging my friend who was at the edge of passing out, after a few seconds this guy comes too close again and asks if we need any help for the second time, I once again politely declined and thanked him for the concern, at this point I thought about the worst possible outcome and considered that I should beat this guy to a pulp, I was doing martial arts my whole life and also was very tipsy so got cocky too, I stopped and waited for him to pass us as he did, he stopped and looked for the third time and said that if we needed anything we could ask him, I said okay and nothing was needed, as we were walking to our house he went into our neighbours gate, I ignored it and just focused on getting my friend safely home, as I was walking inside my house I heard a scream coming from the gate that the guy went into, I recognized his tone, I was way too drunk and dumb to care and just went to sleep thinking it was a relative maybe, plus my neighbour was a cop so I didn't worry much. The next day I wake up and the scary guy from earlier comes to mind, I call my neighbour to ask about him and the scream I heard, what he said made my heart sink, he told me that a middle aged man holding a briefcase came in his yard and was watching us from a distance to remember the house we went into, my neighbour went outside and tackled him, that was the scream I heard, he called his precinct and a few cops showed up, they took him to the station, checked his briefcase and found dirty needles, ropes, knives and bunch of kinky stuff, I got the reality check and have been more careful since then.

2024.05.19 11:56 ShoppingCrafty9043 Controversy alert 🚨 🚨, (karens.. when physical despair is combined with intellectual despair)

A woman who is unattractive will secretly hate an attractive woman, because we know that envy creates a deep sense of shame for those who suffer it..
In the heart of an unattractive woman, she will blame of her shame and envy to the attractive woman and she will convince herself that the attractive is arrogant and vain. She will enjoy when the attractive woman fails, overall in the loving theme, her hidden object is to convince the world that an attractive woman is evil, vain and deserves a punishment.
If an ugly woman sees how a man rejecting an attractive woman, she will celebrate it as a personal victory.
On the other hand... they love handsome boys, the same ones who, in order not to be cruel, pay attention to them, because an attractive man believes that the ugly girl's life is more complicated and deep down he feels sorry for her and thinks that a pretty girl life is easier and they have to make her know some humility. So the pretty girl will probably have to deal with shit from all sides.
The more familiarity you give to an ugly woman, the more assertive she will become, the closer she will see her (imaginary) great moment of walking with a hottie in front of the pretty girls who have made her so envious...
Almost everyone sees it, that they are making a fool of themselves, but they build their own reality. I think that an ugly woman full of hate deserves more lessons in humility than any pretty woman, no matter how arrogant she is.
So far my humble opinion ...
It also wouldn't hurt them to learn to recognize people's emotions a little on their faces... but the Karen model doesn't do much intellectually, they only understand their passions.

2024.05.19 11:54 brian_sue Understanding diff eq

Help! Diff eq makes my brain melt.
I returned to school as an adult to pursue a BS in Mathematics. (My first undergrad degree was Political Science with a minor in Classical Literature, which makes me fun at cocktail parties but isn't super useful otherwise.)
Mathematical fluency isn't something that comes to me naturally. I was motivated by a desire to work hard at something difficult, and I found the increased understanding and competency that I developed to be very rewarding. I also wanted my young children to see me continue to work on something that was challenging and frustrating because I believe that persistence is an important characteristic to model and develop (particularly for "gifted" kids for whom most academic pursuits provide minimal challenge).
I enjoyed calc, absolutely loved linear algebra, and adored combinatorics. My grades in the stats series were fine, and I really liked both discrete and linear optimization. Proof Writing was manageable; Real Analysis was an unpleasant slog.
In general, I struggle with symbolic reasoning. My mathematical learning has always been conceptual first, and then translation of that concept to a symbolic representation. (Meaning that an explanation like "rise over run" makes more intuitive sense to me than "y= mx+b")
Diff eq was... incomprehensible. Some part of my difficulty I can write off as student/professor incompatibility - my prof was new, not an experienced instructor, and he also had an extremely heavy accent which I found challenging to decipher. I squeaked though his class with a 2.3 that, in all honesty, I didn't deserve.
It's now a decade later and I really don't like my lack of understanding in this area. I don't have plans to return to grad school for math, and I am not pursuing employment requiring fluency in diff eq. Nevertheless, the fact that I don't understand it eats at me. I feel like a fraud.
The easiest way to overcome my knowledge deficit would probably be auditing a diff eq class at a local university. However, in the decade since my degree was conferred, my family has moved from the US to Germany. I live in Munich, where there are a number of universities. The math classes are all taught in German, though, and my German is absolutely not sufficient to understand an easy undergrad level mathematics lecture, much less one on a topic with which I struggle.
What resources do you recommend for understanding differential equations for someone with moderate mathematical competency?

2024.05.19 11:53 -Drose251 Rise of the Timberwolves: Defining Destiny in Game 7

Ladies and gentlemen, gather around and let me paint a picture of resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit. Tonight, our beloved Timberwolves step onto the court for the ultimate showdown, Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets. This isn't just a game; it's a testament to everything we stand for as a team, as a community, and as individuals.
Look back at the journey we've embarked on to get to this moment. It's been filled with ups and downs, victories and defeats, but through it all, we've never lost sight of our goal. We've faced adversity head-on, and with each challenge, we've grown stronger, more united.
Tonight, we stand on the brink of greatness. We have the opportunity to etch our names into the annals of history, to defy the odds and emerge victorious against all expectations. But make no mistake, the path to glory won't be easy. The Nuggets are a formidable opponent, worthy adversaries who will stop at nothing to claim victory for themselves.
But let me remind you of who we are. We are the Timberwolves, warriors on the court, champions in our hearts. We thrive under pressure, we shine in the face of adversity, and we never back down from a challenge. This is our moment to rise, to show the world what we're made of, and to leave everything we have on that court.
So tonight, as we step onto that hardwood battlefield, let us remember the countless hours of sweat, sacrifice, and dedication that have brought us to this point. Let us play with passion, with heart, and with a burning desire to succeed. Let us leave it all out there, every ounce of energy, every drop of sweat, until the final buzzer sounds.
And when that moment comes, when victory hangs in the balance, let us dig deep, find that inner strength, and push ourselves beyond our limits. For tonight, we are not just a team; we are a brotherhood, a family bound together by a common purpose. And together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.
So let the roar of the Denver crowd fuel our fire, let the intensity of the moment ignite our passion, and let the spirit of the Timberwolves guide us to glory. For tonight, we write our own destiny, we make our own history, and we prove to the world that anything is possible when you believe in yourself and never, ever give up.

2024.05.19 11:53 ladynoirette I don't know what to do. My family loves me.

19F. I'm mentally ill. The past two years were better, specifically recently it was great. A major flare up has made me suicidal. It's never been this bad.
I can't do it anymore. It's too much. I have all the support I could ask for. I'm loved. I've restarted medication. I have so much to be grateful for and I truly am.
But I can't do it anymore. I'm going to end it soon. I can't do it. I tried, I hoped, but I can't anymore.
I pray my Mum and Dad will find peace and they'll be able to cope. I love them more than anything. They have always been by my side. They deserve the world and more. I feel awful and guilty for what I'm going to do, but I really can't do this any longer.
My grandma is supposed to be visiting in a week, my exams start in a few days. I'm supposed to go to uni. I'm supposed to go see my grandparents in two months.
My Mum is excited about her gardening now that we've got an allotment, my sister has a trip, my Dad is finishing off the house we just got for the first time. My little brother has football he's looking forward too.
I hate myself got even considering. But I can't do it. I love them so much but this is eating me from the inside. I can't imagine living like this any longer. I want some peace. Relief.
Mum, Dad, I'm sorry.
My Mum is already taking my condition badly. She thinks it's her fault, and that all she did for me was pointless because I'm suffering. I worry she won't take it well at all.
I wanted to travel. I loved going on walks and spontaneous adventures with my family. Evening popcorn while watching something funny. Going out to McDonalds on a random day. I love feeling cared for and nurtured and accepted. They've done everything for me, and I love them with all my heart.
I wish they didn't so it would be easier to say goodbye.
I'm going to drink. I wanted to do it in the comfort of my bed, to feel the last sense of safety before I go, but finding me would be too traumatic so I don't know where to do it. I just know I have to. I can't do this any longer.
It hurts so much when you have a family that loves you.
Please forgive me.

2024.05.19 11:48 matmannen Development, changes and crises in leaving mormonism.

We must have all heard the terms exmormon vs postmormon. As I understand it, postmormon describes moving away from morminism in full: leaving it's chackles behind you and becomeing the person you were always meant to be. This ofcourse implies a state of serene perfection, you have healed until there is no more healing to be done, but one can always hope.
A mormon life always begins somwhere. Mine began in a small rural town with a mormon-sized family and the only quirky members in a radius of 12 miles (20km). Non-mormon influences were unwelocme at home, so friendships were very difficult and not encouraged. The only real fellowship was during the odd church funtion and being far away it included alot of work.
I grew up and like in every mormon's life there comes the question of marriage. Afterwards I continues the same pattern I grew up with. I moved cities and and in a marriage of 10 years, I continued the same pattern I learned and made no friends. I only really knew my wife and her family.
My marriage ended, in many ways my wife gave me license to lead the life I always wanted. There was half-hearted attendence during covid, but your spirit always wins. Few months later I asked my name to be revoked, I moved cities, new job: I started a new life.
Living life, I eventually found a girldfriend and we started hitting it off. As things were going, I was about to repeat my old pattern, make no friends and only really socialize with her and her family, until everything changed. I decided to come out as bisexual. We opened our relatioship for some exploration and I eventually got a friend with benifits. As time grew, there was alot more friendship than benifits and I started meeting his friends. Now I consider him my best friend, and we hang on the regular just talking, usually over a bottle of wine.
I have been working on fostering my sociallife. I have invited people I life to join me in just talking and meeting. I want friendship. But I feel like this is coing into conflict with my relationship with my girlfriend. She wanted to move fast, but I always held back, and after two years we are talking about moving in together. On the one had I have her, a life of my usual pattern, and on the other I have freedom and striving onwards.
I really don't know what to do, leaving mormonism, life is spunn into a life of trauma and change and I am lost. How have you dealt with the relationships and crises as you left mormonism in full?

2024.05.19 11:42 Asleep_Magazine_5528 I (25M) made a huge mistake with (24F) - was it the mistake or was she not even interested before this?

I (25M) matched with a girl (24F) on hinge. We were texting each other once every day or so for just over a week then organised to go on a date. The date went great - she did mention that she has accounting exams coming up soon with her job so she was going to be busy the next couple of months. But we both had a great time and I had no doubts we wanted to see eachother again after the date - she even gave me her umbrella to take home as it was raining and she got a taxi home.
We continued texting once a day - finding out more in common and I mentioned that I’m a fan of Mexican food and she said she is too and she said that could be our next date idea. She then asked when I was free and I booked a restaurant (2 weeks after the first date as she was busy due to a family wedding the weekend after the first date). She also mentioned that as it’s September now, it’s go time in terms of revision.
We met up at the restaurant and the date went fine, again no doubts and lots in common. She mentioned that due to a health condition she doesn’t like to drink alcohol when it’s super hot so she ordered a mocktail instead with her food.
We then went to a rooftop bar afterwards which I’d booked as the weather was really warm. When we got to the rooftop, the girl said it feels hotter up here than it does downstairs (which it did) and she asked me to push a button on my side of the table (I think she assumed it may have been connected to a fan). But when I pushed the button the outdoor heaters turned on which was quite embarrassing and the people in the bar started laughing. I laughed too but it did throw me off and make me feel awkward. The girl did apologise to me and them and was laughing too.
But we sat down and continued chatting - I felt the conversation wasn’t flowing as well due to the awkwardness but there were no awkward silences. I ordered a cocktail but the menu was a little limited for mocktails - I did ask her if she wanted to go somewhere else but she said don’t worry it’s ok. She ended up just having water.
Once i finished my drink, she said she’s going to head off so we walked to the train station together - we didn’t stay at the rooftop for very long. I was still feeling awkward as the last part of the date didn’t go how I’d hoped but I asked if she wanted to go out again and she said yeah definitely so I gave her a quick kiss and said bye.
I messaged her on instagram while I was on my way home and just gave her my phone number and said let me know when you’re home.
She texted me that evening and said ‘hey thanks for dinner tonight - honestly next time you have to let me get the bill! It was v good to see you again. Hope you got home okay x’.
I replied that Thursday evening and said ‘hey no worries it’s all good, but you’re organising the next one’. She then reacted to that message with a little heart on Saturday and said ‘how’s your Saturday been, sorry for the late reply been super busy my sister is visiting😂’ - she did mention that her sister was visiting before we went on the second date. I replied on the Sunday with general convo. She replied on the Monday as usual, being communicative, telling me about her weekend and all the things she did and also asking me more about what I was doing. She also said ‘so not a productive weekend in terms of revision😭’
I replied on the Tuesday, making general conversation again. I didn’t hear back from her on Wednesday, Thursday (which was when I started to get anxious) or Friday. I assumed she had a busy week with work and revision so I’d hear back Friday evening. I also noticed that at some point after the second date she changed one of her prompts on her hinge dating profile - a small change from ‘give me travel tips to Thailand’ to ‘give me travel tips to Miami’. She didn’t update any pictures or anything else and as we’d only been out twice I’m guessing this is normal? She also mentioned on the second date that she’d booked her Miami holiday.
I still didn’t hear back from her and then made a massive mistake Saturday morning and sent her another message which said ‘if you weren’t interested why not just say. You’re a bit of an arsehole to say you wanna go out again, pay and all that then just ignore me’. She responded an hour and a half later and said ‘I wasn’t trying to ignore you - I was genuinely busy this week. But you calling me an arsehole is so uncalled for and tbh I don’t want to see someone who’s going to call me names so I’d rather just call it a day’. I called to try and apologise but she didn’t pick up so I messaged ‘I get you’re busy with exams. Like I fully understand that but it takes 2 seconds to say hey I’m busy right now I’ll get back to you. Tbh it comes across like you’re not interested and a bit rude. So I’m sorry I called you an arsehole but I called you as I wanted to chat to you quickly’. She replied and said ‘sorry missed your call - I’m out. Yeah fairs I get that but the exams are my priority. I feel like I’ve said what I need to say and think it’s just best if we leave it here’. I messaged again trying to sort it out but she didn’t reply. I gave it three weeks and apologised more sincerely and she said it’s all good no hard feelings but she’s got a lot on right now so she doesn’t think it would be best to give it a second chance. I said if it’s the exams I don’t mind if you wanna speak again after they’re all done, but she didn’t reply to that message.
I reached out again after a couple months as I saw her on the same dating app and her profile was updated with new pictures and she said she just doesn’t see this going anywhere and good luck with everything - she then blocked me. I’m assuming she was finished with her exams by this point.
I fully understand that I was completely in the wrong with the way I reacted and I’ve learnt the lesson and won’t ever speak to anyone like that again - I regret it so much because I could see myself liking her and she honestly seemed like the most perfect girl, although we only went on 2 dates and spoke for a month. But do you think it was me calling her an arsehole that caused her to end it (completely valid if so) or if she just wasn’t feeling it before this and I gave her an easy way out?

2024.05.19 11:42 Equivalent_Dig5563 A Lesson in Humility

In the bustling heart of London, nestled among the towering glass giants of Canary Wharf, sat the offices of one of the world's largest accounting firms. This was where hundreds of young graduates began their professional journeys with the prestigious Big Four.
I was one of those graduates, stepping into the world of business with a mix of excitement and nerves. My university, University of Bedfordshire, wasn’t as prestigious as some of the others, but I had worked hard to get here.
Early on, during one of the team-building exercises, I found myself in conversation with two fellow graduates, Sam and Thomas. Sam had attended University of East London, and Thomas, with an air of arrogance, hailed from a top-tier university. Thomas had a habit of making his educational pedigree known to anyone within earshot.
“So, which universities did you guys go to?” Thomas asked, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
“I went to UEL,” Sam replied.
“And I graduated from University of Bedfordshire,” I added, trying to keep my tone casual.
Thomas’s smirk grew into a full-blown grin. “Oh, I see. Well, you know, it’s interesting how people from less prestigious—or shall I say shit—universities end up in the same place as those of us from the top schools. It’s almost like you’re not really meant to be here.”
Thomas’s arrogance was as prominent as the company logo that adorned the office building, and his comment made the atmosphere tense as Sam and I exchanged a quick glance. But before Thomas could revel in what he thought was a triumphant remark, Sam spoke up.
“You know, Thomas, we all ended up in the same place, didn’t we? Here, at this firm. So what’s the difference?”
I nodded, locking eyes with Thomas. “Either you underachieved by ending up as our equal, or we did well enough to prove that we have the required quality regardless of which university we went to.”
The silence that followed was heavy. Thomas's grin faded, replaced by a look of surprise. He opened his mouth to respond but found no words.
As the weeks went by, the story of our quick comeback spread through the office. Thomas's confidence, though not entirely gone, was definitely checked. He started realizing that hard work and talent weren’t exclusive to those who went to top-tier universities.
But Thomas couldn’t fully shake his attitude. His arrogance and condescending comments continued, albeit less frequently. Eventually, it caught up with him. A few months into the job, he made one too many snide remarks to the wrong person—one of the partners, no less.
The next day, we noticed Thomas’s desk was cleared out. Word quickly spread that he’d been fired. Turns out, in a place where teamwork and respect were key, his attitude didn’t fly.
It was a harsh lesson, but a necessary one. The rest of us learned from his mistakes and focused on supporting each other, regardless of where we came from. The experience brought Sam and I closer, and we continued to thrive in our roles, proving that respect and hard work mattered far more than the name on our diplomas.
Has anyone else experienced something like this in their workplace? It’s surprising how common it is for someone’s arrogance to get in the way of their success.
Tl;dr: arrogant twat gets shown the door

2024.05.19 11:32 Otherwise-Comb2672 AITA for suggesting that we stay elsewhere during a family vacation?

My wife and I have a 2 year old daughter—let’s call her Anna—and we’re currently on a family vacation in Hawaii with my parents and my in-laws (7 people total). We are staying at my father’s timeshare, which he periodically invites us to. The two pairs of grandparents adore Anna and seem to get along with each other. Anna is undergoing potty-training right now, and as with all potty-training, there are occasional accidents.
We arrived in Hawaii two days ago, and she had quite a few accidents - I suspect because she’s dealing with an unfamiliar place and new people. Right before dinner, Anna had an accident on the pullout sofa, which necessitated a call to housekeeping to swap out sheets and cushions. My dad wasn’t happy.
When all 7 of us sat down shortly afterward for dinner, my dad sat down and the first thing out of his mouth was, “Anna is out of control, isn’t she.” Bear in mind Anna was sitting right across from him at the table. I let it slide and continued eating, and my wife said something to try to brush it off. Then, my dad suggested that we put Anna back in diapers and that she not be allowed on the bed or the couch. I responded by saying that I didn’t want to do that and that potty-training is a process that has highs and lows. My dad then remarked that it would be problematic if she had an accident on the carpet because it’d be hard to clean up. In my mind, I thought to myself, “So you don’t want her on the bed, couch, or carpet—where is she supposed to hang out the whole time, the bathroom??” At that point, I was frustrated and said something to the extent of, “If Anna’s accidents are too big of a problem, we can always find another place to stay at.”
That’s when my dad blew up. He accused me of threatening him and of being disrespectful. It seemed that he took my suggestion as a threat of leaving, and he made very clear that he felt offended. He also said that I needed to “be careful with what I say and show respect to your parents.” I responded by repeatedly telling him that I didn’t threaten him nor intend for him to be threatened. He responded that “it doesn’t matter what your intent was, because I feel threatened.” At this point I was really upset, so I said something I probably shouldn’t have, remarking that he was “too easily threatened.”
My dad then demanded that I apologize to him. I didn’t feel that I had to, but I half-heartedly apologized because I wanted the argument to end and because it was making things super uncomfortable for my in-laws who were also sitting at the table and eating dinner through all of this. Later that evening my dad pulled me aside again and lectured me further about the argument.
It seemed that the whole blowup happened in response to my remark that we could stay elsewhere if my dad couldn’t tolerate Anna’s potty training accidents. AITA for saying that?

2024.05.19 11:29 No-Huckleberry-286 How to get no contact

My (35f) nfather whom I have been next to no contact for 3 years just drove 1.5 hours, dropped of 100+ pages of craziness about how he's a good human with congestive heart failure but shouldn't be paying my mom alimony before an upcoming court date. He drop a binder off at both my maternal aunts' and my house this evening in hopes that we will make mom settle. When he dropped them off at the other places he just dropped them at the door, texted from his car and waited maybe 5 minutes. When he arrived at my house he whistled up the walkway, knocked (being the millennial that I am I wouldn't have answered a stranger) and then continued knocking for about 10 minutes, texting repeatedly. He also sent mom a rather ominous message with Mother's Day flowers he sent her about how they will never speak again. On top of being worried he will harm mom if the court visit doesn't end exactly the way he wants.
In addition to the binder matching the others he made digs about how I need to follow the 5th commandment of honoring parents and how I'm still single because of these things. In the middle he whines about how I don't answer his messages, and then that I was "rude" when I agreed over my better judgement to met him and his mother at a restaurant last spring. Ironically he complains about how I shouldn't send him a Father's Day or Christmas card because that's just offensive to him.
So basically I'm looking for advice, do I write a long letter telling him to leave me alone or do I just completely ignore him and hope he doesn't show up again announced????
