2024.05.19 12:43 Willing-Corgi-3112 Am I allowed to not have a relationship with my half-brother?

(TW for trauma, maybe?)
Burner because I expect he'll find this. I (early 20s F) have a rocky relationship with my half brother (late 30s M) because he was aggressive and occasionally violent when I was a child.
I've always been scared of him. I think he is the reason I have a fear response to men yelling. It took a lot of time with safe, supportive men for me to heal from that and have more positive associations for men yelling (i.e. having fun watching sports and yelling at the TV).
As an adult, it's still difficult to have a relationship with him. He gets angry when people "invalidate" his feelings but is very dismissive of other people's feelings. When people apologise for hurting him, he says it's not good enough (nothing ever is). When other people try to explain why they did something bad as a response to strong emotions, he says that it doesn't erase how he feels (this I agree with. All feelings are valid and excuses don't make thrm go away). But when someone points out that he lost his temper, got aggressive or got violent, he says "I only did that because you made me angry," or another similar emotional excuse that fails to take accountability. It's a double standard that posits him and his feelings as the priority.
He says every conversation with our mother feels like a battle but the rest of the family gets along with her fine. Every conversation with feels like a battle for me. Every time he wants something from anyone, it becomes a battle.
He is extremely sensitive to rejection of any kind. He complains that our mother doesn't trust him enough. He complains that I don't love him enough. He doesn't like the fearful way I begin "responding to [him]" when he gets aggressive. He thinks he is entitled to my love and care just because we share a mother and some DNA.
I'm a short, physically weak girl, so yes I feel scared when defending my boundaries to a man over 6ft.
I don't want a relationship with him. I want to tell him "We've never been close and we never will be. I will not have a relationship with you. I am not obligated to love you."
I have trouble setting boundaries because I usually stay away from people who won't immediately respect them. I don't like people who push. Please help me establish that I'm not interested in a relationship with this person.
TL;DR: my half brother doesn't treat me in a way i want to be treated. Do I have to have a relationship with him just because he wants one?

2024.05.19 12:35 AITheXmasAH Potentially moving to the US from UK - Advice Needed!

Hi guys,
So long story short - I am in the final process of the job recruitment process for a really exciting opportunity in the US. They know I need H-1B sponsorship and, as a cap-exempt employer, they can begin the process pretty much whenever. Great.
However - this opportunity was a complete surprise. 6 months ago I moved into a new apartment with a 12 month lease, took out credit to buy furniture etc. etc. and so I have an interest-free credit card balance of around £10k. I also have a repayable sign on bonus at my job of £4k which I will almost certainly need to pay back.
This might sound crazy, but I ran the maths and I realised I could pay it all off within one year on my salary if I stayed in the UK. I have been doing that, though instead of paying it off directly I have been putting money into a savings account just because I figured since the CC debt was interest free... I may as well make some money on my money instead of paying it down right?
In any event, I'm on target to have it cleared down by the end of the year. Great. But... this is a curveball and I'm not sure how to manage the situation.
If I get the job, I'd be on around $70k per year, which turns out to be $4.6k net having used the take home pay calculators. This is quite a bit more than what I am on in the UK, but I know the cost of living in the US is quite a bit higher.
I'd plan to pretty much sell everything I own in the UK and would expect to get around £5-7k based on this. This, plus my savings would give me around £10k to play with.
Overall, I expect I'd move within 5 months so I would really like to start planning now and put a financial plan together. My current thoughts are thus:
Overall I am stumped if this is a good plan or not. Alternatively, I could just carry on paying the minimum debt payment in the UK until the interest free period expires, but this doesn't sound like a good idea.
Ugh... I am so excited about this opportunity. I really wish I saw it coming 6 months ago!! I would have made such different decisions. But... hindsight is always 20/20.
If anyone has had a similar situation I'd love to hear your advice. Thank you <3

2024.05.19 12:29 Affectionate-Tip1745 RoyalWriter Review: My Personal Experience

RoyalWriter Review: My Personal Experience
Brief overview:
Quick turnaround time, double checking for plagiarism and generated content, a 24/7 support team available through numerous communication channels, free unlimited revisions, a host of fresh service reviews and PayPal payment seemed to be the most appealing features of this writing service. Most users stated in their reviews that the platform is legit and can be trusted. The pricing here is adequate, starting at £10.83 per page. The turnaround is fast and timely, which is ideal for students short on time.
Pros:
✅ Quick turnaround — minimum deadline is 3 hours
✅ Very reasonable prices
✅ Plagiarism and AI-generated content check by QA team
✅ Feedback on the website is regularly updated
✅ Links to additional resources with reviews are available
✅ 24/7 support
✅ Free unlimited revisions
✅ You can pay with PayPal
Cons:
❌You cannot call your writer at the phone
My experience:
During the initial scroll through RoyalWriter, I noticed tonnes of fresh reviews, which made it crystal clear that this website is actively used by students and covers various types of papers, from assignments to research papers and other types of work.
https://preview.redd.it/odmmdg4p0d1d1.png?width=2880&format=png&auto=webp&s=38014ee4334b6edbffe695db422ef36dbabcb8e3
I also noticed that the website contains a lot of useful information regarding the services offered, and their spectrum is rather broad (e.g. they even offer help with programming tasks). This was especially important for me because I needed assistance with a complex Business Assignment with calculations and some other websites couldn't find relevant experts for the task, which made my deadline even more looming. Here, everything was explained in detail and even visualised for clarity.
Just check this out:
https://preview.redd.it/1otidear0d1d1.png?width=1434&format=png&auto=webp&s=be064b939cec53eef74deb390eedac43a2ae2dcb
The other feature that caught my eye was an individual approach to dissertation writing. I could'nt even imagine that a service can provide a personal manager to oversee all the dissertation writing stages and deadlines. This sounds like a real deal. Maybe I'll try it in three years when I'm asssigned one. Haha =)
https://preview.redd.it/n3fb9iss0d1d1.png?width=1335&format=png&auto=webp&s=04120412fed5d594b9898258a17701512e8a4441
And damn, YES — they are one of a few services that accept PayPal. This payment gateway is a serious one, and if PayPal partners with this website, then it's 100% trustworthy.
Another important point that made me choose this website in anonymity. Here, they not only promise that all communications are confidential from when you place an order until you get the completed paper back, but they deliver on their promises. When you send a direct message to the writer, they only see your user id, and you also see their id. No real names available, and asking for real names is prohibited by the website's policies. Cool, isn't it?
Btw, you can't call the writer at the phone for this very reason. However, you can chat through live chat, which is also okay. Of course, this may not be super convenient because sometimes it's easier to explain details over the phone, but I personally respect this firm for their focus on anonymity.
The last point for this firm was that they don't lie on their website. They directly state that all photos used on the website are stock photos, not real ones, used only for aesthetic appeal.
The result:
I received my assignment a few hours before the deadline, which turned out to be a great advantage. When I opened the file, I was shocked in a good way! Structure, formatting, correct grammar and punctuation were all there. The assignment was done professionally and contained UK spelling throughout. I even had to make a few mistakes here and there for my prof to believe it was my own work. It also passed numerous checks with contentdetector ai and zerogpt, and I was praised by the prof =)
What about you, Redditors? Has anyone used this website for essays and research papers? Have some coming my way next week and would like to understand if the quality will be the same. Please share your feedback only if you've tried the service. Not interested in alternatives.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.19 12:17 Silly_Qube Look! That mountain is huge! It just looks like a 「Behemoth」 sized creature.

Stand Name: 「Behemoth.」 Namesake: Behemoth by Gost & Perturbator (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rq8PjgNI3c) Stand User: Urutsal Oleyssyes. Size/Height of Stand: 372m. Stand Cry: None. Stand Type: Artificial-Non Humanoid, Long-Ranged, Automatic (Far-Distance Autopilot) Stand. Stand Role: Offense, Support, Defense.
Info and Statistics:
Appearance:
Behemoth is a colossal stand that has an appearance of a Flying Ironclad, the ironclad is actually 290m long, but because of its super-long deck and bow, it gives it another 82m, the stern though inclines at the back. The Main Ironclad has 2 sub-ironclads connected beside it, also having 3 fans at the sides of the Sub-Ironclads. Behemoth's large cockpit is smack-dabbed right in the middle of the Ironclad, with gears forming petals which slowly descend to the Main Engines, the cockpit is very sleek and long, inclining downwards. Both Sub-Ironclads and Main-Ironclad have 2 45m long cannons, with 5 barrels, and each barrel is 6m wide, with 10000 AA guns. Inside of the ironclad, there is 40 small Ironclad like ships, some are scouts, some are defensive, and some are offensive, and 4 giant main engines inside the Main-Ironclad, behind the main engines is a colossal sized cannon, 34m in height. There are also giant inclining smoke stacks on the Main-Ironclad. The main colors of Behemoth are Grey/Gray, Black, Red.
Abilities/Techniques:

Weaknesses:

  1. Because of its colossal size, spotting it will be easy.
  2. Normal people can even see it. (linked to weakness 1)
  3. If any important compartments like the cockpit, engines, cannons get damaged, the entire stand will be affected, like really bad.
  4. Annihilator takes a WHILE to activate the shooting, 45mins.

Stand Stats:

Description of User and Backstory:
Age: 22
Appearance/Personality:
Urutsal has a timid, and shy personality (at least he tries to be, but fails pathetically), but when he is piloting, or commanding his stand, he becomes more calculated, serious, and more strict. Standing at 6'5, with short blond hair, and purple eyes. He wears a VRN Vess Division Grand-Admiral uniform (which is similar to a SS Luftwaffe officer uniform, but it has an overly long aiguillette on the hat that droops down to the waist), and a Black VRN Fedora (that's the only way to identify a Grand-Admiral).
PS: VRN (Vess Royal Navy) Vess Division is a sub-branch of the RGN (Royal Gatzaboran Navy). (It's called 'Navy' instead of 'Airmen' is because the ships/aircraft and sailors are extremely Navy like, instead of having Airmen uniforms, they have Naval uniforms.)
Note: The Rank 'Grand Admiral' isn't real, it it used in Star Wars
Backstory:
Born at Gatzabora's Galey Family (which was the family that owned Gatzabora), he was incredible rich, and spoiled as a child, he would go everywhere to become an annoying gremlin, always asking for the things he want. One day, while crying and throwing a tantrum on the floor at a street, he saw an another spoiled child getting scolded like crazy and getting beaten, so he zipped his mouth up, got up, and became more mannered (like he doesn't want to be spoiled anymore). At age 16, because of his family's dreams (they dream that their children will work at jobs like the army, navy, city-worker (they always keep Gatzabora floating, basically they keep everyone alive, so everyone respects them) etc, so he chose to join the army, becoming a sailor in the Navy in fact. 3 years later, because of his stellar performance in the navy, and following orders real well, he climbed up the ranks, and became the most highest rank in the Navy, the Grand Admiral (still lower than 'The General of The Army'). Age 22, in a mission, Urutsal was ordered to take down Maren and Trusyen's squad (they were almost a menace, thanks to their stands), the battle started, Urutsal got defeated, but instead of dying and being those 'loyal' wannabes 'i won't join you!!11!!1', he joined them, and threw off the Navy insignia (which the Navy didn't know that he betrayed them). Becoming the 2nd JoBro.
Status of character: Former Minor Villain turned JoBro.

2024.05.19 12:08 StrugglingGhost Unusual situation that might not apply to most owners

I'm a caregiver to my mother who has short term memory issues. She's got a huge heart but isn't widely known for remembering things shall we say. I've got two dogs in the home, a Blue Heeler mutt that might have a bit of Chow-chow in him, and a Pit-Lab who is very protective of her property (read: her family's property) both rather young, I think the Pit is maybe 3 years old and the Heeler is 2 years old. The Heeler listens and obeys.. to a limited extent, he's got separation issues. The Pit rarely listens to anyone except me (Dad) and even then, to get her back inside, I have to go physically grab her collar or w/e and redirect her at times, depending on the people walking past (I unfortunately live in a shady area, some people seem to have a fascination with upsetting the dogs when they're chained to use the toilet - I wish I lived in an area with a fenced yard so they could run a bit more)
Grandma has mobility issues so she's unable to be physical with either one - the Heeler, not much of an issue but the Pit? She's another story. I'm usually at work when issues arise, so am unable to deal with them immediately, as one should with dogs. From what I've read, the Pit doesn't respect Grandma, unless the dog is in the right mood.
Any advice on how to get the Pit to listen when Grandma calls her back inside, or anything else? (Idk if this might help but the Pit seems to be kind of food motivated, although that isn't reliable)

I recently tried on the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt and was intrigued by its unique graphic print. The dark green crewneck fit comfortably, featuring short sleeves and a slightly loose fit. As someone who appreciates the use of organic cotton, I was happy to see that this t-shirt was made from 100% of it, making it a great eco-friendly choice.
The ribbing on the collar added a nice touch of comfort. However, the graphic print might not be everyone's cup of tea, so it's essential to consider personal style preferences before purchasing. Overall, the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt is a comfortable and stylish addition to any wardrobe, especially for those who love the brand's logo.

I recently added the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt in black to my wardrobe, and let me tell you, it has quickly become a staple piece. The 100% organic cotton used in this tee not only makes it super comfy but also eco-friendly, which I love. The graphic print of the playful cat sticker adds a unique touch that sets it apart from other t-shirts I own. However, I must admit that the fit is a bit loose compared to other t-shirts I have tried, which might not suit everyone's preference.
Overall, the Carhartt WIP Cat Sticker T-Shirt has become a go-to choice for casual outings and everyday wear. Its lightweight material makes it perfect for sunny days, and the short sleeves give it a versatile touch. Despite the slightly loose fit, I am definitely a fan of this tee and can't wait to see what other designs Carhartt WIP has to offer!

I recently had the opportunity to try on the Carhartt Men's Force Hooded T-Shirt, and it exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort and style. The first thing that caught my attention was the material composition, which is designed to wick away sweat and dry quickly. This made it perfect for long days at work or outdoor activities.
The fit of the shirt was also spot-on, with a relaxed style that allowed me to move freely without any discomfort. I particularly loved the hidden pocket, which proved useful for keeping essential items close at hand without being too obvious. The hood was also a nice touch, providing both warmth and protection against the elements.
However, there was one downside to this shirt. The washing instructions recommend using a mild detergent, which can be a bit of a hassle for some people. Additionally, I noticed that the shirt is not as durable as some of its counterparts, which could be an issue for those who require a more robust and long-lasting option.
Despite these minor setbacks, I truly enjoyed wearing the Carhartt Men's Force Hooded T-Shirt. It provides a great balance between comfort, style, and functionality, making it a worthy addition to any wardrobe.

Recently, I had the pleasure of trying out the Carhartt Long Sleeve Logo T-Shirt - Men's Carbon Heather. It's a reliable and quality choice for my daily life. The long sleeve design is perfect for working comfortably every day, no matter what the weather is like where you are.
The first thing that stands out about this shirt is its durability. With its rib-knit crewneck and cuffs, it feels like it can withstand even the most demanding tasks. I appreciate the side-seam construction, which minimizes twisting and keeps me comfortable all day long. The brand signature logo printed on the sleeve adds a nice touch, making it a stylish option for work or play.
One of the best features of this shirt is its comfort level. Made with 100% cotton jersey knit, it has a soft feel against the skin. I love how the tagless neck label eliminates any skin irritation typically caused by regular neck tags.
However, there's one minor concern that I had. After using it for a while, I noticed that the shirt seemed to shrink a little bit. It's not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of if you're planning on purchasing this shirt. Additionally, I found that the shirt seemed to fade slightly over time, which was a little disappointing.
Overall, the Carhartt Long Sleeve Logo T-Shirt is a comfortable, durable, and stylish option for men who need a reliable long-sleeve shirt for their daily lives. I recommend giving it a try, but be mindful of the potential shrinkage and fading issues.

🔗Carhartt Men's Sun Defender Graphic T-Shirt

This Carhartt Men's Force Sun Defender Long-Sleeve T-Shirt is perfect for those sunny days. The 100% polyester fabric, with a 4-ounce weight, feels light and airy, keeping you cool while you're out and about. The FastDry technology wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and comfy.
One of the most impressive features is the Sun Defender UPF 50+ UV protection, which means you won't have to worry about the sun's harmful rays when you're wearing this t-shirt. The smooth flatlock seams add a touch of comfort to your skin, eliminating any chance of rubbing or chafing.
The Carhartt "C" graphic on the left chest and another on the left sleeve not only make a stylish statement, but also give the shirt added durability. The tagless neck label is a nice little touch that adds to the overall comfort of the shirt, as it prevents irritation on your neck.
Overall, this is a great product that offers not only style but also functionality. It's perfect for those who want to stay protected from the sun while looking fashionable. However, one downside I noticed was that it might not be the best option for those who prefer a looser fit, as it can be a bit snug around the arms. But all in all, if you can overlook that, this would be a fantastic addition to your wardrobe.

🔗Camo Insulated Rugged Flex Men's Jacket: Comfort, Durability & Mossy Oak Pattern

https://preview.redd.it/lqwwde0gvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bf382b76ec9dd3560e9e10a00dcf6289ff1a360
My Carhartt Men's Rugged Flex Duck Camo Active Jacket has been a game-changer in my hunting adventures. I've been using it for the past three hunting seasons, and it's been nothing short of amazing. The first thing that caught my attention was its durability; it's held up against some harsh weather conditions. The Rugged Flex stretch technology and elbow pleats allow for easy movement, which is crucial when I'm tracking down my prey.
One of the most impressive features is the DWR finish that provides excellent water resistance. It's kept me dry even during unexpected downpours. The Mossy Oak Bottomland camo pattern truly helps me blend in with my surroundings, making it easier to stay hidden from my quarry.
However, there are few things that could use some improvement. The loose fit means I sometimes experience a bit of wind coming up, but it's not too much of an issue. Additionally, while the zipper quality is solid, it could be slightly longer, as suggested by other reviewers.
Overall, the Carhartt Men's Rugged Flex Duck Camo Active Jacket has been a reliable companion on my hunts, protecting me from the elements and enabling me to focus on the task at hand. If you're in the market for a well-constructed and comfortable hunting jacket, this one should definitely be on your radar.

🔗Carhartt Classic Brown Duck Coat with Corduroy Collar

https://preview.redd.it/gjelnnkgvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73b08da0c3ef44f85c77311800d674aab16f961a
A couple of years ago, I purchased the Carhartt Men's Firm Duck Chore Coat for myself when I was gearing up for a cold and windy construction project. The first thing that stood out to me about this coat was its heritage-inspired design, reminiscent of the pocket watch era. As time went on, I had the opportunity to test its claims of being water-repellent and wind-resistant, and I can confirm that it lived up to my expectations, even in harsh conditions.
One significant highlight of the Carhartt Chore Coat is its corduroy collar, which has been in use since the late 1930s and has that classic, timeless look. Additionally, the rugged firm-hand duck fabric not only gives it a sturdy feel but also becomes more comfortable with time, making it a reliable piece of outerwear.
As much as I love this coat, it does have a couple of drawbacks. Firstly, the length of the sleeves can be a bit too long for some users, with some having to size down to ensure a comfortable fit. Secondly, the coat's collar could be slightly wider to provide better protection against the wind.
In conclusion, the Carhartt Firm Duck Chore Coat is the perfect choice for those who prioritize comfort, warmth, and durability in their outerwear. Its timeless design and high-quality materials make it a worthwhile investment for anyone looking for a reliable coat that will stand the test of time.

🔗Carhartt Rain Defender Fleece Shirt Jacket

I recently got my hands on the Carhartt Rain Defender Relaxed Fit Hooded Shirt Jacket in Black Heather and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer in my daily life. As an avid outdoorsman, I appreciate the flexibility of this jacket - it's suitable for various weather conditions.
One thing that really stood out for me was the adjustable hood, which ensures good visibility even during a downpour. The high collar also provides additional protection against the elements.
Another highlight is its durability. The Windfighter fleece, combined with the Rain Defender finish, makes it wind and water-resistant, while its triple-stitched main seams add extra strength. Notably, there are ample pockets for all my essentials.
However, there's one issue I encountered with the hood design. It can feel awkward if worn with a cap, though a beanie or hard hat doesn't pose the same problem.
In terms of sizing, I found that the medium size fits perfectly, providing enough room for layering without compromising on comfort. The length of this jacket is another praiseworthy feature - it's just right, even without the 'tall' version.
Lastly, while it's not technically a winter jacket, I believe that with some insulation, it could be the perfect companion in winter. Overall, the Carhartt Rain Defender is a reliable go-to for various weather conditions, offering comfort, durability, and functionality.

🔗Carhartt Men's Lightweight Hooded Jacket

https://preview.redd.it/kbt1283hvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df1a27058b1649184cd8236dbe7fe5f04200a9ed
I recently got my hands on the Carhartt Super Dux Relaxed Fit Lightweight Mock-Neck Jacket and I must say, I'm quite impressed. The jacket provides excellent protection against wind and light rain, making it perfect for those chilly days when you're outdoors. It's a great piece to layer up with during mild winters.
One of the standout features of this jacket is its flexibility. Thanks to the Rugged Flex stretch technology, I can move freely without any hindrance - whether I'm running errands or engaging in some physical activity. The wind-resistant fabric ensures that my body stays warm even when there's a chill in the air.
However, there's one drawback that I've noticed - the collar. It feels a bit too large and tends to get in the way while turning my head. It would be great if Carhartt could address this issue in future models.
In terms of pocket storage, this jacket delivers as well. There are several secure zipper pockets both inside and outside, allowing me to safely stow away my essentials like tools or supplies.
Overall, the Carhartt Super Dux Relaxed Fit Lightweight Mock-Neck Jacket has become a staple in my daily outdoor wear. Its lightweight design, coupled with its wind and water resistance, make it a practical choice for anyone who spends time outdoors. Despite the minor issue with the collar, I'm highly satisfied with this jacket.

🔗Carhartt Realtreed Xtra Camo Sherpa Lined Active Jacket

https://preview.redd.it/qo0me0ohvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=119c6715543338880779bc3fcf9bb6e35bebc6c9
Carhartt's Men's Super Dux Relaxed Fit Sherpa-Lined Camo Active Jacket is a warm and durable piece of outerwear that's perfect for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts alike. I recently purchased one in Mossy Oak Bottomland Camo, and I must say, it has quickly become my go-to jacket for all my outdoor adventures.
The first thing that struck me was the quality of this jacket. The 18.1-ounce, 97% nylon/3% elastane fabric feels sturdy and well-made, offering excellent wind resistance and a sprinkle of light rain protection. The Sherpa lining inside is incredibly soft and cozy, keeping me warm even on the chilliest days.
One aspect I particularly love about this jacket is its spacious interior pocket. It comfortably holds my essentials without weighing me down or restricting my movement. The secure zipper left chest pocket is another useful feature, providing an easy-to-access spot for my phone and keys while I'm out and about.
However, there are a few minor drawbacks to the Carhartt Men's Super Dux Jacket that I think are worth mentioning. Firstly, the adjustable hood with a hidden drawcord and cord lock is a nice touch for safety, but I've found that it can be a bit difficult to adjust while wearing gloves. Secondly, the lack of elbow or armpit gussets means that the jacket doesn't always move with me as smoothly as I'd like, especially when reaching or lifting objects.
Despite these small issues, I'm overall very satisfied with my Carhartt Men's Super Dux Relaxed Fit Sherpa-Lined Camo Active Jacket. Its comfort, durability, and practical features make it a standout choice for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors.

🔗Carhartt Washed Duck Insulated Active Jacket

https://preview.redd.it/4bdckzxhvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36a6bbe7e0c8d9b493a04c4249b5b155cca4c5fb
As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, I have to say that the Carhartt Men's Washed Duck Insulated Active Jacket has been a game-changer for me. I've had this jacket for several months now and it has held up incredibly well.
What stands out the most to me about this jacket is the heavyweight cotton duck fabric. It's not only warm and durable, but it also has a nice, broken-in feel to it that makes it super comfortable to wear. The 3M Thinsulate insulation adds an extra layer of warmth without making the jacket too bulky or heavy.
One feature I really appreciate is the attached hood with low profile adjustment. On windy days, this hood helps keep me protected and warm. Plus, the cord locks make it easy to adjust the fit without having to deal with annoying drawstrings.
Another positive aspect of this jacket is the updated lower front pockets. They're now lined with brushed tricot, which makes them feel much softer and more comfortable against my skin. And when I'm out working in the cold, I love how the pen stall in the right, lower front pocket lets me keep all my essentials close at hand.
However, there is one aspect of this jacket that could use some improvement - the side pockets. They could definitely be deeper, as they don't provide enough room for storing larger items like smartphones or wallets when you're on the move.
Overall, the Carhartt Men's Washed Duck Insulated Active Jacket is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and stylish cold weather jacket. The durability and thoughtful design features make it well worth the investment, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

🔗Carhartt Super Dux Insulated Jacket for Men

https://preview.redd.it/a8870zgivc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e730e82932cb7e639a5ab1bf179935b5175c57ce
The Carhartt Men's Super Dux Relaxed Fit Insulated Jacket was my go-to for those chilly days. On my latest project in the backyard, the wind was relentless and the rain was coming down hard, but this jacket held its own. The 100-gram Thinsulate insulation kept me toasty and the Rain Defender technology ensured I stayed dry.
One of my favorite features was the Rugged Flex technology that allowed for unrestricted movement. The bi-swing shoulders and flexible elbows made reaching up high or bending over a much easier task. I never felt trapped in the jacket, even when I was getting really active. The hood was also a game-changer, able to protect my head not only from the rain but also from the wind. Plus, the detachable feature was super convenient - I could remove it on warmer days or when I needed to interact with someone face-to-face.
However, I noticed that the interior storm cuffs were loose and didn't keep out the draft as well as I'd like. And while the length was perfect for my needs, it might not suit everyone. Despite these issues, the jacket's high-quality construction, impressive warmth, and rugged design made it a reliable addition to my wardrobe for those harsh conditions.

🔗Carhartt Men's Yukon Extremes Insulated Active Jacket - Black

https://preview.redd.it/dgjxdyqivc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38aea4fb9e9855187f660b64af25d37d392586f3
Recently, I purchased the Carhartt Men's Yukon Extremes Insulated Active Jacket, and I'm quite satisfied with its performance. As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, it's important for me to have a jacket that's not only durable but also well-insulated and wind-resistant. This active jacket did not disappoint.
The first thing that caught my attention when I received the jacket was the 3M Thinsulate insulation, which provides excellent warmth without feeling too bulky. I'm particularly fond of the hood design, featuring a drawcord and reflective Carhartt patch. The hood not only keeps me protected from rain and snow but also ensures visibility during nighttime activities.
However, one area where the jacket could be improved is its zipper quality. While the plastic zipper works fine, I'm more accustomed to metal zippers, which are generally more reliable and durable. In addition, the jacket can be somewhat noisy when walking due to the swishy fabric sound - not ideal for hunting purposes.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I believe the Carhartt Men's Yukon Extremes Insulated Active Jacket is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable and well-insulated winter coat. Its attractive design, variety of pockets, and comfortable fit make it a versatile option for both recreational activities and daily life. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and believe many others will be too.

🔗Carhartt Youth Canvas Insulated Hooded Jacket - Mossy Oak Country DNA

https://preview.redd.it/h1pq5j6jvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a97cea9c48e41af642305cb09c6436c6033c7afd
I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of Carhartt - especially their Camo line. That's why I decided to get this Canvas Insulated Hooded Jacket for my son. Let me tell you, it has been a game changer this hunting season!
First off, the quality is top-notch. This jacket is made with heavy-duty canvas and features triple-stitched seams. Even after several washes, it still looks brand new. The quilted flannel lining on the inside also ensures that my boy stays warm and comfortable no matter how cold it is outside.
One of my favorite features of this jacket is the hidden rib-knit cuffs. They keep his wrists toasty and make sure no wind or sleet sneaks in. Plus, the insulated front pockets are perfect for storing his hands or keeping small gear close at hand while he's out in the field.
Now, let's talk about the hood. It's full zip, so it provides ample protection against rain, snow, or even those pesky mosquitoes during summer months. And speaking of zipping, the main zipper is high quality and doesn't get stuck or catch on the fabric.
While the jacket isn't water-resistant, it does dry relatively quickly when hung up, making it easy to clean and maintain. The only downside I've noticed is that the sleeve length could be a bit longer, especially if your child is taller than average.
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this Camo Canvas Insulated Hooded Jacket from Carhartt. It has everything a young hunter could want - durability, comfort, and style. If you're looking for a reliable and well-made jacket for your little outdoorsman (or outdoorswoman), look no further than this one.

I recently got my hands on the Carhartt Men's Black Gilliam Jacket and oh boy, it's been a game-changer for my daily life! This insulated jacket is not just about keeping you warm during winter, but also about providing you with some real protection from unwanted dampness. The DWR finish ensures that you stay dry and comfortable even when the weather takes a turn.
One thing I truly appreciate is the zipper closure feature. It's a small detail, yet it does an excellent job of keeping out the cold winds. Speaking of features, it comes with heaps of pockets - some even have protective closures. This means you can carry all your small work essentials without worrying about losing them.
Now, let's talk about the cons. Though I'm not usually bothered by minor issues, I must say the length of the sleeves could be a bit longer. It may not be a problem for everyone, but it did catch my eye.
All in all, the Gilliam Jacket has definitely earned a place in my wardrobe. Its water-repellent capabilities, the myriad of pockets, and the overall comfort it provides make it the perfect companion for these colder days. So if you're looking for a reliable work jacket that doesn't compromise on style or functionality, this one's a solid choice!

I've been using this Carhartt Men's Full Swing Steel Jacket for a while now, and I must say, it's been a reliable companion through the colder months. Its 3M Thinsulate insulation keeps me warm and cozy even during the harshest winters, and the DWR finish makes sure I stay dry even when caught in a rainstorm.
One of my favorite features is the detachable hood. It gives me personalized styling options depending on my mood or weather conditions. The jacket's rugged construction is also worth highlighting, as it's made of stretch ripstop for extra flexibility and freedom of movement.
However, I've experienced some issues with the zipper quality. It can sometimes get stuck or hang at every little wrinkle, which can be quite frustrating. Another minor issue is the sizing, as the jacket tends to run on the smaller side, but that's easily fixed by choosing a size larger than usual.
All in all, I'm quite satisfied with the Carhartt Men's Full Swing Steel Jacket. Its combination of style, comfort, and functionality makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a versatile and reliable winter jacket.

🔗Carhartt Men's Super Dux Traditional Insulated Coat (Black) - Relaxed Fit, Machine Wash

https://preview.redd.it/or65m7dkvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=223f52063a4f689bc57b66eea80b81090db51c79
I recently purchased the Carhartt Super Dux Relaxed Fit Insulated Traditional Coat to stay warm during those chilly winter days. The coat's 7.75-ounce nylon fabric is treated with Rain Defender durable water-repellent finish, ensuring that I stay dry even in heavy rain. Additionally, the Wind Fighter technology effectively blocks the wind, keeping me cozy and comfortable.
One of my favorite features of this coat is the quilt-lined insulation with 100g of 3M Thinsulate, providing excellent warmth. The secure hook-and-loop right chest pocket and zipper left chest pocket are perfect for storing my essentials, while the two snap front lower pockets with side entry hand warmers keep my hands toasty. The interior hook-and-look pocket on the wearer's left side offers additional storage space.
I also appreciate the drop-tail hem, which provides extra coverage, and the adjustable hood with chin guard and hidden drawstrings, which protect me from harsh weather conditions. The rib-knit storm cuffs effectively seal out the cold, and the center-front zipper with kissing welt makes it easy for me to put on and take off the coat.
However, there are a few downsides to this coat. The side seam zippers, while providing added movement, can be a bit challenging to use at times. Additionally, the double-stitched main seam, although durable, can feel a bit stiff and may require some breaking in.
In conclusion, the Carhartt Super Dux Relaxed Fit Insulated Traditional Coat is an excellent choice for those looking for a reliable and warm coat for winter. Its unique combination of features, such as the 7.75-ounce nylon fabric with Rain Defender technology, Wind Fighter technology, and 100g of 3M Thinsulate insulation, ensures that you stay dry and warm in even the harshest weather conditions.
Although there are a few minor drawbacks, such as the stiffness of the double-stitched main seam and the occasional difficulty in using the side seam zippers, these issues do not significantly detract from the overall quality and performance of the coat. Overall, I am highly satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this coat to anyone looking for a high-quality winter garment.

🔗Black Men's Rough Cut Jacket by Carhartt

https://preview.redd.it/czaf3k2lvc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcc3b43f556beb9649b5c230cd8000bbf290a97c
Carhartt's men's Rough Cut Jacket, in black, is perfect for those chilly autumn days. This heavyweight flannel piece, with a sherpa fleece lining in its body and a quilted lining on the sleeves, offers both warmth and style. The original-fit shirt-jac features handwarmer pockets and zippered ones ideal for storing your wallet or keys. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, this jacket can withstand the elements, and after years of use, you'd be hard pressed to find any significant wear and tear on it. Although it's designed primarily for breathability and not as a standalone layer for keeping warm, it pairs beautifully with fleece or down mid-layers.
However, despite its high rating, the jacket does have a few minor drawbacks. The first is that the zipper tends to get stuck, particularly near the neck area, often requiring fiddling for a few minutes. Some users also mentioned they found the arms to be slightly short, as well as the jacket being slightly stiff when new. But these issues seem to be more common with the first batch, with newer models appearing to have resolved these concerns.
In conclusion, the Carhartt men's Rough Cut Jacket is a high-quality, stylish option that provides warmth and comfort while maintaining a sleek appearance. Its wind resistance and pairing ability with other layers make it an ideal choice for fall and winter outings. And although the stiffness and the issue with the zipper might be present initially, they seem to resolve with time and use. Therefore, I would recommend this jacket to anyone seeking a reliable, durable option for their outdoor activities.

  1. Durable Materials: Look for jackets made with heavy-duty materials such as cotton duck or polyester, ensuring they can withstand harsh hunting environments and regular wear.
  2. Insulation: Insulation is crucial for maintaining warmth and comfort in cold weather. Consider water-repellent insulation like Thinsulate™ or Quick Dry technology, which dries faster than traditional materials.
  3. Pockets and Storage: Pockets are essential for storing gear and easy access during hunts. Choose a jacket with multiple pockets (including interior and exterior), preferably with zippers or toggle closures to secure items.
  4. Ventilation: Proper ventilation helps regulate body temperature and prevent overheating. Look for jackets with vents, mesh panels, or breathable materials that allow airflow.

Considerations

  1. Weather Conditions: Consider the typical weather conditions of your hunting location. If it's usually cold and wet, opt for a waterproof and insulated jacket. For milder conditions, a lightweight jacket with good ventilation might be sufficient.
  2. Camouflage Patterns: Choose a camo pattern that blends well with the environment where you'll be hunting. Some popular options include RealTree AP, Mossy Oak, and Carhartt's proprietary camo designs.
  3. Fit and Comfort: Ensure the jacket fits well without restricting movement. Consider adjustable features such as cuffs, waistbands, and collar for added comfort and customizability.
  4. Safety Features: High visibility elements like reflective trims and bright colors can enhance your visibility and safety in low light conditions or near roads and highways.

General Advice

  1. Read Customer Reviews: Read reviews from other hunters to get valuable insights about the performance and reliability of specific Carhartt Hunting Jacket models.
  2. Invest in Quality: Although high-quality Carhartt Hunting Jackets may have a higher price tag, their durability and performance make them a worthwhile investment for serious hunters.
  3. Regular Maintenance: Clean and dry your jacket according to the manufacturer's instructions to maintain its water-repellent properties and extend its lifespan.
By considering important features, weighing relevant considerations, and following general advice, you can make an informed decision when choosing the perfect Carhartt Hunting Jacket for your unique needs and preferences.

2024.05.19 11:54 Unusual_Resource6642 AITA for telling my friend his on/off gf's abusive relationship isn't his concern?

Throwaway
I (M19) have been friends with this guy I'll call Eric (M20) for the past 2 years. We met in the fall of 2022 since we were in the same dorm at uni. Eric's is great and most people like him. Back around February/March of 2023, he started a relationship with a girl called Mia (F19). Now Mia seemed off to myself and some of my other friends, she gave off emo vibes and just seemed like a really sarcastic and rather condescending person. She didn't like us to say the least, and for whatever reason disliked me the most.
Eric would later tell us that Mia had a lot of trauma since her dad was abusive towards her and her mother and her last bf was also abusive. Because of all this, she was getting a lot of mental health treatment throughout her teen years. This was kinda an eye-opener for me and I felt terrible about judging her, so I was always very nice to her from that point onwards.
Around November of last year, Mia started seeing this other guy in our year I'll call Martin (M19). She and Eric were fighting a lot around this time and I guess she wanted out. Now Martin doesn't have a great rep at our school. His parents are very wealthy, i.e., they make enough money to cover his whole tuition in just 2 weeks of working. He lives in a luxury apartment his parents own off-campus and drives an AMG to class every day. I'm sure you get the idea. Because of this, he's spoiled rotten and goes through girls quickly.
When Mia started a relationship with Martin in December, he became abusive pretty quickly and at some point made her call Eric crying. Eric was furious about this and one thing led to another, and Eric ended up getting jumped and beaten pretty badly by some of Martin's friends. Mia would then kinda of yo-yo herself between relationships with Eric for a short time, and then some other guys. I guess you could say she's the kinda of person who always needs to be in a relationship, which according to Eric is a result of her abusive father.
About a month ago, Mia went back to Martin after her relationship with one rando fell apart. A few days ago she called Eric again crying because Martin had made her upset or something. According to Eric, he also abandoned her downtown at 2 am a few days before that.
Eric is very stressed about this and wants to do something. Though, despite how terrible Mia's situation is, I don't think he can realistically do anything and I told him as much. I told him that for his own sake, I'd recommend he start forgetting about Mia and Martin.
This upset him and some of our other friends.
AITA? I honestly don't know what I did or could have said to make the situation better...

2024.05.19 11:54 elitemihi Seeking Advice on Finding a Job in Shanghai: EU Citizen with CS Background

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some realistic advice and insights on my current job search situation in Shanghai. Here’s a bit about my background and what I’m facing:
My Background:
Visa Situation:
Job Search Efforts:
Challenges:
Current Plan:
My Question:
I'm currently in a bind. With my background and qualifications, finding a good programming job in Europe wouldn't be too difficult. However, in Shanghai, it's been so challenging to find any job, even those I'm grossly overqualified for, no matter how much I lower my standards regarding career progression and compensation. Although I could find a remote job, that wouldn't solve my visa issue.
Given my qualifications and experience, what are the realistic chances of finding any job in Shanghai that provides a livable wage and normal work hours? Any advice on navigating the job market or improving my odds would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone been in a similar situation or have insights on making this work?
Thank you!

2024.05.19 11:44 roman-roman Steuerhölle: Krypto-Selbstanzeige angeblich schief gegangen

hallo zusammen,
I've been investing in crypto since 2017. I was computing profits based on "global FIFO" - that is, considering all wallets as a single one. I structured my trades so that the short-term gain tax is zero. In 2022 there was a clarification (https://datenbank.nwb.de/Dokument/939203/) that one needs to compute it based on depo.
I learned about this only in 2023 when preparing declarations for 2021 and 2022. I recalculated profits according to the new rules, which resulted in ~15.000 short-term income over the years (2017-2020). We declared the 2021 portion as a part of 2021 declaration. My tax advisor also sent a e-mail to tax office regarding years 2017-2020 (which were already processed), including the short-term gains. The long-term gains were much higher (very low 6 digits). In that email to FA, she asked to retroactively amend those declarations to include the new gains.
This took place in late 2023. Now my tax advisor learned from FA that in January I (or the tax advisor - not clear and they won't say) should have received a letter from "another department" of the FA. According to my tax advisor, FA employee was secretive about it, which my tax advisor explains means that this is from bußgeld- und strafsachenstelle. We didn't receive the letter (I 100% didn't not so sure about the tax advisor, as she missed quite a few other letters from FA). It's not clear why they didn't send more letters. The FA employee said that she asked the other department to contact us again.
I understand, this means that there is a proceeding i.r.t. tax evasion. I'm spending days trying to understand how and actually what exactly could have happened. If they disagree with my short/long split, AFAIU, they'd just ask or issue a tax return with different split. It's not clear why would they open bußgeld- ioder strafsachen proceedings without further inquires, especially given that I voluntarelly disclosed that income. I understand we'll need to wait for further info, but does anyone here have any idea what might have happened? Of course this all will be speculation, but I'm extremely eager to understand any potential reasons.
I don't know if it's relevant, but I live in EU-ausland for ~2 years already. Really wanted to close my German tax affairs, but now the situation seems bleak.
Any advice, words of support or just spekulation is highly apprecaited.

2024.05.19 11:40 hellarick Everything thing you need to know about the FFIE current state By Chat 4o

The situation with FFIE (Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc.) you described is a classic example of a potential short squeeze. Here’s a detailed analysis and my opinion on this:

Analysis and Opinion

Low Float, High Volume, and High Short Interest:
Recent Price Movements: - The dramatic increase from $0.03 to $3.40, followed by a fallback to $1.13, suggests high volatility and speculative trading. This kind of price movement often attracts momentum traders and can lead to a short squeeze, especially if a coordinated group is trying to push the price higher.
Bear Trap or Short Ladder Attack: (Which did not happen on Friday that was a short ladder) - Bear Trap: This is a situation where the stock's price is pushed lower to trap bearish investors, who then cover their shorts, driving the price back up.

Short Sellers Covering Positions

When Will Short Sellers Cover?: - Margin Calls: If the stock price rises significantly, short sellers may receive margin calls from their brokers, requiring them to deposit more funds or cover their short positions.
How Long Can They Last?: - Depends on Capital: The ability to hold short positions depends on the capital available to meet margin requirements. Larger funds may withstand more extended periods of unfavorable price movements.

Factors That Could Force Short Covering

Cost to Hold: - Borrowing Fees: Short sellers must pay borrowing fees to maintain their positions, which can become expensive, especially if the stock is hard to borrow due to high demand. - Interest Rates: The cost of borrowing shares may increase over time, adding pressure on short sellers to cover their positions.
Inevitable Forces: - Regulatory Changes: Any new regulations or broker restrictions on short selling could force short sellers to cover their positions. - Positive Catalysts: Any positive news or catalysts (e.g., strong earnings, favorable industry developments) can drive the stock price up, forcing short sellers to cover.

Conclusion

FFIE's situation is highly volatile and speculative, driven by the dynamics of low float, high volume, and extremely high short interest. While the potential for a significant short squeeze exists, it is also a risky scenario with high price volatility.
Short sellers will have to start covering their positions if the stock price continues to rise, leading to margin calls or excessive borrowing costs. However, the exact timing and duration depend on market conditions, the strength of the rally, and the financial resilience of the short sellers.
Given the high risk and potential for rapid price movements, careful monitoring and a well-defined risk management strategy are crucial for trading in such scenarios.

2024.05.19 11:28 axelwest36 Idea for raising additional funds for effective charities - Please provide input if you want!

Hi all!
I’m looking for ways I could help in raising funds for effective charities, and came to the idea of a quality label which certifies products of which 10% (could vary based on type of product) of its price is donated to the most effective charities, as determined by charity evaluators (e.g., GiveWell). Working name is ‘Everyday Impact Foundation’.
This would allow consumers to do good everyday by shopping for products with the Everyday Impact certification. Many consumers try to shop consciously by looking for products labelled ‘organic’ or Fairtrade, but the positive impact of these goods are limited according to research. Consumers have limited ways of knowing what type of impact is generated by the additional price they pay.
At the same time, many companies are looking for making more impact and especially show to consumers that they contribute to a better future. This would allow these companies to measurably do good.
The Effective Altruism community as a whole would benefit from the additional exposure from information campaigns by the Everyday Impact Foundation, which would do these information campaigns themselves as well as helping companies communicate effectively about EA. The Everyday Impact certification could be retracted if companies communicate without adhering to the communication guidelines.
What I’m wondering is:
  1. Whether something like this already exists or whether this has been tried/considered in the past;
  2. What would be the position of the broader EA community to such an initiative.
Please reach out via messages or via the comments under this post if you want to add your opinions and/or questions to the debate!

2024.05.19 11:27 Ninisuppa Need advice on the basics

Hi ! So I started to train different martial arts with different coaches a year ago. None of them were specialized in boxing though. Now, I want to learn more seriously on my own (for financial reasons and I think I invested too much money and time in coaching). I feel I lack a lot of the basics (stance, punching correctly, footwork, shadow boxing) and if some of you could give me a few advice on what to improve first and how to do so,It would be much appreciated. Here is a video of my training today.

Additional questions :
How can one avoid sore hands while training regularly?
Can one become technically good without sparring ?
Are there overuse injuries in boxing ?
Many thanks, Cheers from France

2024.05.19 11:24 IsakOldton What could be shared with my neighbour to decrease housing costs?

I am buying a house in a small village. And it turns out that my best friend is buying the house just next to mine.
We thought we could share Internet (optic fiber). And we are trying to think to other things that could be shared to decrease the costs (we'll have long and painful mortgages). I thought eventually to some tools, the kind you don't really use regularly (e.g. High pressure washer).
But I'm running short of ideas. Do you have ideas and maybe feedbacks on sharing some things with your neighbours?

2024.05.19 11:01 pipted Universal Studios Japan day report, with kids aged 8 and 11

I thought I’d add a trip report for Universal Studios Japan as I found some of this detail was hard to find online (e.g. the opening time!) My husband and kids (aged 8 and 11) visited USJ on a weekday in mid April.
Tickets: All purchased through Klook without any problems. Printed at home to save the hassle of flicking through four passes on my phone every time. We bought the 7 Express Pass which was worth every cent. We also bought the Early Entry studio pass, designed to let us in 15 minutes early. That wasn’t entirely accurate, see paragraph below!
Entry times: We had read online that the park opens an hour before the posted time. Not today! The posted time was 9am, and we turned up at 8:15. The park opened at around 8:40. At this time, the regular lines and the Early Entry lines opened all at once. But it was still definitely worth buying the Early Entry pass, because the lines were much, MUCH shorter. If you’re using an Early Entry pass, just show the attendants when you turn up and they’ll direct you to the Early Entry lines.
Super Nintendo World: We had already reserved an entry time for Super Nintendo World at 10:50 through our express passes, but we didn’t want to wait. We checked the app as we walked in at 8:50, and we could get an entry time to SNW at 9:10. We went straight there, lined up, and they let us in 15 minutes early! We found the same for all of our express passes too: They would allow us in at least 10 minutes earlier. Perhaps it’s because it wasn’t a particularly crowded day (still crowded, but not a weekend or holiday). In brief, SNW is everything you’ve seen online, but so spectacular in person.
SNW power up bands: We bought these at the first kiosk, but should’ve followed the advice online and walked further into the area. There were power up band kiosks with no queues inside. We didn’t really get much value for money out of these: the kids had fun hitting the blocks and coins and interacting with them a little on the rides, but they couldn’t be bothered to wait in the long queues for the more elaborate games. There’s a big challenge which requires playing several games to collect keys to enter a boss level. It probably would have taken an extra hour or two, but we were ready to go on more rides.
Jaws: We went on this next, but there was no need for a fast pass as the queue was very short. It was entertaining enough despite being in Japanese. We would have preferred to ride the Hollywood roller coaster; our 7 express pass had that as an alternative to Jaws, but unfortunately it’s currently closed.
Minions Mayhem: This was the best 3D movie ride I had ever been on (until we went on Soaring at DisneySea!). Both are excellent. The intro videos have English subtitles; the main 3D movie ride didn’t, but there wasn’t much dialogue. Very fun, enjoyed by all. Walked past the other Minions ride, Freeze Ray Sliders, but looked like a version of spinning teacups, not worth the ever-lengthening queue times.
Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge: Probably our favourite ride for the day. It’s a combination ride / 3D movie / interactive experience with virtual goggles – worth every bit for the express pass, and worth the queue if you don’t have an express pass!
Yoshi’s Adventure: Very much a young kids’ ride and can be skipped! Even our kids looked bored. There are good views, but not much that you can’t see elsewhere. (As an aside, the two best views of the not-yet-opened Donkey Kong Country were found at the peak of the Flight of the Hippogriff rollercoaster, and on the Tempozan Ferris Wheel which we visited the day before.)
Flying Dinosaur: Our 11-year-old doesn’t like extreme roller coasters, but our 8-year-old was unsure as she has liked some bigger roller coasters before. We decided that my husband and I would ride it while the kids watched (and took videos, hilarious) and we could tell her afterwards if it was too scary. DEFINITELY too scary, haha. I love roller coasters, and I closed my eyes in parts. I’m so glad I did it, but it’s not for the faint-of-heart.
Jurassic Park meet and greet: We happened to walk past as the dinosaurs were coming out. Cute for the kids, but not worth structuring your day around. I wish the Jurassic Park log flume ride was open, but it’s currently still closed.
Waterworld: We queued for this 20 minutes before show time, but we needn’t have bothered, as the seating area was huge. They were still letting people in as the performance began, and none were having trouble finding seats. We could have chosen the front row, but we sat slightly behind the ‘splash zone’ so we wouldn’t get wet. Sitting higher up afforded a better view too, but views would have been good from anywhere. The plot was simple enough to follow without understanding Japanese – fun and good for a long rest for our already tired feet!
Hogsmeade: Utterly stunning, all of it: The shops, the food, the performances (singing frogs and magical beasts turned up regularly). We ate at the Three Broomsticks, which appeared crowded with a long queue, but with an app to order, it cleared quickly enough. There were plenty of empty tables out the back, with a view across the lake to Hogwarts! My kids had wanted to try butterbeer for so long, but it was sickly sweet, like bubbly maple syrup. It was quite difficult to find a place to dispose of the rest of the drink so we could take the souvenir cups home, but eventually we just dumped the contents in the bathroom sink.
Interactive wands: These were much better value for our kids, and they took part in five of the seven interactive spells before exhaustion hit at the end of the day. The first (wingardium leviosa!) was not being managed by staff, so it was hard to get it to work. It had about a 50% success rate. The later ones were all managed by very kind and patient staff (who also happened to speak excellent English) who allowed each guest to keep trying until it worked. It meant the queues were slow-moving, but most were short enough, and my kids were happy to wait while they watched others attempting the spells.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: We were so excited for this one, but it scared both my kids a bit! The 8-year-old because of the giant dementors (both on-screen and big animatronics), and the 11-year-old because the chair actually tipped a really long way back and forward. She was worried we would go right upside-down, but we didn’t. It was a lot more intense than we had expected. I really loved it, but be careful if you have sensitive kids.
Flight of the Hippogriff: This is a pretty tame roller coaster, and I’m not sure why people would queue two hours for it. The kids loved it, though. One warning: my six foot tall husband had to be moved to the front row as his legs didn’t fit!
Minions Mayhem again: We noticed on the app that there was only a 10 minute queue for Minions Mayhem, so my husband and 8-year-old had another go. A 10 minute queue means no queue at all, as it takes 10 minutes to walk through and watch the intro videos. We checked the app, and all the more popular rides still had huge queues, so decided to call it a day.
All up, we were there from opening to 6pm, and were utterly exhausted by the end of it. Plan a quieter day for afterwards, if you can! And we were very jealous of the people staying in the hotel right by the park – in hindsight it would have been worth the extra packing and unpacking to shift to that hotel for the night before and/or after.

2024.05.19 10:52 jennithomas321 On-Page vs. Off-Page SEO: Different but Equally Important

What’s the Difference Between On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO?

On-page SEO focuses on optimizing parts of your website that are within your control, while off-page SEO focuses on increasing the authority of your domain through content creation and earning backlinks from other websites. To further understand the difference between the two, you have to understand, at a basic level, how search engine algorithms work. Let’s break it down.
There are two main buckets that search engines (SEO) look at when evaluating your site compared to other sites on the web.
  1. On-page SEO looks at what your site (or your page) is about
  2. Off-page SEO looks at how authoritative and popular your site is

On-Page vs. Off-Page SEO: What’s the Difference?

Put simply, what you rank for is largely determined by on-page factors, while how high you rank in the search results is largely determined by off-page factors.

How Does Each Type of SEO Affect Your Rankings?

What is On-Page SEO?

On-page SEO (also known as “on-site” SEO) is the act of optimizing different parts of your website that affect your search engine rankings. Where your website appears in search engine results pages is determined by a number of ranking factors including site accessibility, page speed, optimized content, keywords, title tags, etc. On-page SEO is about optimizing the stuff that you have control over and can change on your own website.

On-page SEO checklist:

How do you make sure your on-page SEO tactics are up to snuff? Here is a helpful checklist for on-site optimizations that can help curate your strategy.

Title Tags

Put your targeted keywords in the title tag of each page on your site. There are many best practices that go into writing an effective title tag.

Headings (H1)

Headings are usually the largest words on the page, and for that reason, search engines give them a little more weight than your other page copy. It is a good idea to work your target keywords into the headings of each web page but make sure you accurately reflect your page’s great content.
Make sure your H1s limited to one per page, all other headers are H2 or H3

URL structure

Put keywords into your URLs if possible. However, do not go changing all of your current URLs just so they have keywords in them. You shouldn’t change old URLs unless you plan on redirecting your old ones to your new ones. Consult a professional before doing this.

Alt text for images

Any content management system should allow you to add something called “alt text” to all images on your website. This text isn’t visible to the average visitor – alt text is in fact used by screen reader software to help blind internet users understand the content of your images. Search engines crawl images in a similar way, so inserting some relevant keywords while accurately describing the image will help search engines understand your page’s content.
Writing an alt attribute for each image keeps your website in compliance with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). Keep the following things in mind when writing alt text:

Fast-loading pages, or page load speed

Google wants to help its users find what they’re looking for as quickly as possible to provide the best user experience. Therefore, optimizing your pages to load faster helps your site rank higher in the search results.
Google has a tool called PageSpeed Insights that will analyze your site on both mobile and desktop. and then suggest tips to optimize page speed. There are also several quick fixes to eliminate whatever is bogging your site down and slowing your page load time. Key site speed factors to consider:

Mobile Friendliness

In recent years, Google has prioritized mobile page loading speed as a key ranking metric.
How do you know if your website is mobile-friendly? Unfortunately, Google recently dropped support for some free public tools that helped. However, you can now use Google Search Console to analyze this type of information. Specifically, the Core Web Vitals report can help you identify if your mobile pages are loading slower than they should be.

Page Content

The content on your pages needs to be useful to people. If they search for something too specific to find your page, they need to be able to find what they’re looking for. It needs to be easy to read and provide value to the end user. Google has various ways to measure if your content is useful.

Internal Linking

Linking internally to other pages on your website is useful to visitors and it is also useful to search engines. Here’s an internal link to another blog post on our site that talks more about internal linking. Very meta.
When adding internal links, make sure to have relevant anchor text. Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink (usually indicated by blue font color and underline). To optimize your anchor text, make sure the selected word or phrase is relevant to the page you’re linking to.
On-page SEO ensures that your site can be read by both potential customers and search engine robots. With good on-page SEO, search engines can easily index your web pages, understand what your site is about, and easily navigate the structure and content of your website, thus ranking your site accordingly. As a best practice, make sure your page content includes 1-3 relevant internal links.

Schema Markup

Adding structured data helps Google better understand the content of a page. Google also uses certain types of structured data to display “rich results” in SERPs such as a recipe with start ratings or step-by-step instructions with an image carousel. These rich results often appear at or near the top of SERPs and generally have higher click-through-rates than normal organic listings.
Google prefers structured data to use schema.org vocabulary, and recommends using JSON-LD format. They also provide a handy Rich Results Test tool to check your code. While there are a variety of ways to add structured data to your website (plugins, Google Tag Manager, etc.), it’s always best to get a professional involved if you’re not comfortable writing code.
Check out Google’s guide to structured data and rich results here.

Social Tags

Having your content shared on social tells Google that people find your content relevant, helpful and reputable. Not every page on your site is share-worthy, but you can optimize the pages that are with these tips:

Core Web Vitals

User experience is key to a website’s long-term success. In spring 2020, Google unveiled Core Web Vitals, a common set of signals that they deem “critical” to all users’ web experiences.
The purpose of these signals is to quantify the user experience with a website, from page visual stability and load time, to interactive experiences.
To check your LCP score, access your Google PageSpeed Insights and make sure your page hits LCP within 2.5 seconds. To accomplish this, remove unnecessary third-party scripts that may be running, upgrading your web host, activating “lazy loading” so page elements load only as users scroll down the page, and remove any large page elements that may be slowing it down.
One of the simplest ways to optimize cumulative layout shift is to add height and width dimensions to each new site element. Also, avoid adding new content above existing content on a page (unless responding to user interaction).

Page Experience

Google is working on a new ranking signal (likely to come out in 2024) that prioritizes websites with positive user experiences.
The ‘page experience signal’ will consist of Core Web Vitals, plus mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS security, and intrusive interstitial guidelines.
According to Google, “optimizing for these factors makes the web more delightful for users across all web browsers and surfaces, and helps sites evolve towards user expectations on mobile. We believe this will contribute to business success on the web as users grow more engaged and can transact with less friction.”

What is Off-Page SEO?

Off-page SEO focuses on increasing the authority of your domain through the act of getting links from other websites.
A good analogy for how authority works is this. If you have a bathtub with rubber duckies in it (the ducks are your pages), and you start filling the tub with water (links), your duckies are all going to rise to the top.
This is how a site like Wikipedia ranks for pretty much everything under the sun. It has so much water in its bathtub that if you throw another rubber duck in it, it’s going to float to the top without any other effort.
There’s a score called “Domain Authority” that calculates how authoritative your website is compared to other sites. You can type your domain name into here to see your score.

How to optimize for off-page SEO

There are several factors that influence your off-page SEO rankings. While each one is tackled with different strategies, they share an overarching goal of building the trust and reputation of your website from the outside.
  1. Inbound links
  2. Social media marketing
  3. Guest blogging and guest posting
  4. Unlinked brand mentions
  5. Influencer marketing
The biggest off-page SEO factor is the number and quality of backlinks to your website. Some examples of ways you can build links to your website are:
While link quantity is still important, content creators and SEO professionals are realizing that link quality is now more important than link quantity. As such, creating shareable content is the first step to earning valuable links and improving your off-page SEO.
How many links do you need for good off-page SEO? That is a tough question and it’s going to be based on the domain authority of your competitors, as you want to make sure you’re playing in the same sandbox.
SEOs also used to believe that buying links was a valid way of link building; however, Google will now penalize you for buying links in an attempt to manipulate page rank. You can also be penalized for submitting your links to link directories whose sole purpose is to increase your domain authority. Again, quality wins out over quantity when it comes to link building.

Is On-Page or Off-Page SEO More Important?

It’s not about choosing between on and off-page SEO, that would be like having to choose between a foundation or a roof for your house. On-page and off-page SEO work together to improve your search engine rankings in a complementary fashion.
However, SEOs generally advise getting your on-page SEO ducks in a row before focusing too much on off-page SEO.
Just like building a house, you want to set the foundation first before building the rest of the house. Like a foundation, you may need to come back and do some maintenance to your on-page SEO from time to time. Balancing the two will help make your website “bilingual” so that your users can understand it as well as the search engine robots- and that’s how your rankings start to improve.

2024.05.19 10:16 elitemihi Seeking Advice on Finding a Job in Shanghai: EU Citizen with CS Background

Thank you!

2024.05.19 10:08 DarlinSS HELP with connect the batteries.

HELP with connect the batteries.
I currently have four batteries. Two of them I personally have been using for about three years, and they are quite old, and two are newer, but their problem is that they are exhausted because their previous user was putting a huge load on them for short periods, but they helped me, because the previous batteries did not spend a long time at all in use.
My consumption is approximately 150W≈255VA during the night (400W during the day), and my system is a 3K hybrid inverter with five 335W solar panels produce (1200W≈) to cover my usage and charge the batteries during the day (40A charging current), and in the evening I rely on the batteries completely.
But unfortunately, the device often starts tooting after about four hours due to the low battery voltage, and this remains the case until the battery power is fully consumed after approximately 10/12 hours. (Off at 21V) (When charging 26.5V)
To solve this problem now, I am thinking of changing the battery connections, and rearranging them to make sure there are no problems. I was previously at (2) in the picture, and the matter was disastrous, so I changed them according to the right part of the photo, and now I am thinking of setting them at (1) in the picture so that I can get the highest amperage possible without the voltage being a major problem.
I know that buying batteries is the best solution, but I cannot do that currently. I have 4 more 655W panels that I can plug in instead of the previous set but I don't think my panels are the problem (i.e. they can't fully charge the batteries during the day).
what do you think? Is it better to settle as I am or to change to (1). are there any other solutions?
I have a 900VA ECO-UPS. Would it be better to use it with the two high-voltage batteries at night instead of putting them all on the solar inverter?
And a final question: Does treating these batteries by putting new acid in them after cleaning the cells with boiling water solve the problem partially? Or will this destroy the batteries?
