2024.05.28 00:42 BouncyPancake Dying SSD isn't recognized by operating system when directly connected to SATA but shows up when connected via SATA to USB adapter

I have a dying SSD (data on it isn't vital but still) and I was trying to see if I could get it to read one last time to get some data from it so I don't have to pull things off of Google Drive (where my backups are).
When connected via MB SATA, it sometimes bricks the whole computer, preventing it from POSTing. When connected to a SATA PCIe card, it freezes on the start screen when displaying the PCIe card's information.
However, when connected to a USB to SATA adapter, it shows up as a functional drive, sort of.
The read speed of the drive is so slow that the OS (Windows and Linux both) give up on the operation when trying to copy information off. Any suggestion?
Like I said, the data isn't vital; I have backups but I'd like to at least try and get something off

2024.05.28 00:37 317isherewon 3:15 AM

I always had this weird story I wanted to get off my chest. But until recently I never got a chance to. But anyway, this all happened two years ago one year after my sister died. After I got out of college I needed a place to stay before I could find a job. So I moved back in with my parents.
Now one thing you have to know about my parents is that they own an Airbnb. And they were currently renting my old childhood room to someone who I couldn’t remember what his name was. But anyway I was staying in my recently late sister's old room which had an old pink TV from the 90s if I remember correctly.
Now it felt kinda of sad to see the room was stripped of its girly decor. but the pink TV was still there unplugged. I plugged it in because there was nothing else to do for the day. So I thought that I could watch some reruns of shows I used to watch as a kid to quell the time. So I took out some old VHS tapes including one unlabed from a box hidden under the bed.
But even though I plugged it in and turned it on with the pink remote it would not turn on! I thought that age must have caught up to it so I was a little bummed out. So without anything to do, I went to bed early that day.
As I was sleeping at 3:15 AM I heard the TV bolt-on it woke me up for I was not yet entranced into slumber. And well on the TV, I could see it was playing a video of the room I was in!
But it wasn’t a prerecorded video it was footage of me in that moment Illuminated only by the glow of the TV. I raised my hand and at that moment, the me on the TV raised their hand!
I was a little taken aback by this but when my alarm clock hit 3:16 AM the TV shut off leaving me back in the dark. The rest of the night was Normal.
When I woke up the next as I was eating breakfast with my mom reminiscing about the old days over some eggs and toast. I told my mom about it. She turned to me once pleasant now cold and in a matter-of-fact voice said
“stop making things up Matt!”
Before she then left the kitchen to go talk with my dad in the other room. Now although that was an odd response I felt like she was kinda right. I mean I could have just dreamed it.
But then the next night as I was sleeping at 3:15 AM I heard the TV turn on again. This time however I decided to record this with my phone so I could have some proof about the TV turning on!
But although I was recording it the Phone could not pick up footage of the TV being on! Even when I turned the Lights on there the phone still showed it as if it was not on! Then as the clock struck 3:15 AM. the TV turned off. So now even more confused than before I turned the TV off and went to bed.
The next day I got out of bed and walked in on my parents talking about the person who was in my room Airbnbing saying odd things like how Cubbey he is and how they need better supplies. But when they saw me they quickly changed the subject and asked how I was doing!
I was going to bring up the TV again but remembered that my mom was upset at me for bringing it up so I decided to keep my mouth shut! After that, I spent most of the day job searching on my laptop. Then at night, I decided to wait for it to become 3:15. And once it did instead of being greeted by the sight of my room. I saw text appear on the TV!
“Matt is that you?”
I was taken aback by this because how could the TV know my name? But I replied.
“Umm yes.”
The TV took a moment to respond before saying.
“Are you okay?”
I was confused but said.
“Yes, I think I am?”
The TV said back to me!
“Could you do something for me?”
I asked back.
“What?”
But by then it was 3:16 so the TV was cut off before it could answer! So once again I was left in the dark with more questions than before. Like how does it know my name, and what does it want?”
But knowing that I’ll have to wait for tomorrow I went to sleep. After waking up the next day I noticed that my Parents seem to not be fully awake! So I asked them what they were up to. My dad told me they were taking care of the Airbnb guy last night before my mom glared at him and he shut up!
My mom then asked me!
“So when are you moving out son?”
I was taken aback by this! And asked her concernedly!
“Why?”
My mom then told me in a tired but calm voice!
“Because we will need your room for another client!”
I was a little bit annoyed by this because I had not found a job yet and also wanted to find out more from the TV. So I told them.
“I’m not quite sure yet, to be honest!”
So she told me.
“At the end of the week okay!”
Now because of this deadline, I called a friend who lived a few miles from town to ask if I could stay over till I find a job! They were super chill and said,
“yeah for as long as you want.”
So for the rest of the day, I packed up some of my things. But unfortunately, because I did not have the strength to finish packing I decided to wait until morning to finish packing. So I went to bed.
At 3:15 the TV turned on I saw the text again saying
“Are you awake Matt?”
I exhaustedly said back.
“Yeah.”
The TV then said to me
“Remember how I said I wanted you to do something for me?”
I said back with a bit more energy.
“Yeah, what is it?”
The TV then asked me.
“Could you take the unlabeled VHS tape and show it to someone anyone but our parents!”
At that moment when I read “our parents” something just occurred to me. Who is using this TV to talk to me? I then asked the TV one more question.
“Who are you?”
The TV then said to me.
“You don’t remember me!”
It then cut to the video of the same room with me in it only this time it was different! For hanging above me was my sister! She hung like the night she died by what we thought was suicide! She is now above me dead as she was found by my parents!
I just screamed!
I must have awoken my parents for they were the only ones that came for me! And they were the only ones in that house who heard me scream. They ran into my room yelling.
“Matt, what’s wrong?”
I pointed at the TV showing my dead sister on it they should have seen it! But they didn’t. Instead, they just said to me now angry.
“Why are you screaming at your sister’s old TV it’s not even on!”
They then started to lecture me about how I disturbed them for no reason. But I could not pay attention because the tv was now telling me something.
“If you don’t leave now you’ll end up like me!”
After my parents unplugged the TV and took it out of the room. I now completely unable to fall asleep decided that this was a warning to get out now! So I finished packing up my things and then I remembered to take the unlabeled VHS tape so I grabbed that too.
And ran out of the house to take the nearest bus to my friend’s house! As I was running to the bus stop could see my parents walk into my room holding some rope.
Luckily I got to my bus in time so for the next few weeks I and my friend would reminisce about our youths and life in general! As I would try to find a job. But then at the beginning of the next week. As I was sleeping my friend woke me up! I asked him.
“Why did you wake me up?”
my friend told me very concerned!
“You the police are here and they want you!”
I was taken aback by this because why would the police want me? But I got out of bed and went to talk with them. One of the officers said to me!
“Are you Matt?”
I told the officer.
“Yes, I am!”
Then the other officer told me.
“We’re here to tell you about your parents!”
I was relieved that it wasn’t me they wanted but concerned as to what they were telling me about my parents. So I asked.
“What for?”
The officer then explained that the guy who was Airbnbing at my parent's house was missing and that they wanted me to tell them what happened at their house when he disappeared! As they were telling me that I thought of the unlabeled VHS tape. Something was telling me to play it.
So I asked the officers if I could do something real quick. So I got the VHS out from my backpack and put it in my friend's old VSR. and for a majored of the tape, it was just old nostalgic memories of me and my sister playing.
It was honestly hard to watch knowing what happened to her!
Then near the end of it, I saw an odd part it showed her with a distressed look and tone on the night she supposedly killed herself! She was talking into it saying.
“Hello if anyone was watching this I am going to be found dead, I just want you all to know that the people who are about to kill me are my parents! If you find this, please tell anyone that their Airbnb business is a disguise for them to murder their clients”
Oh my god, I thought they killed her. Then I remembered that my parents had gone back to my room with a rope. That just made me feel even worse!
Then the tape cuts to a scene of my sister struggling to get herself free from a noose as my Mom berated her calling her a little rat! As my dad was writing the suicide note that we found near her dead body!
She struggled from 3:15 tile she died at 3:16!

2024.05.28 00:36 XXX-NAUT [FANFICTION] “It’s the Man that Makes the Dress” (Rikishi x Vito)

Rikishi was in his locker room watching the matches that took place after his was finished. He was sitting in his couch, invested until he heard a knock on his door.
“Come in!” he said. Through the door came Vito, dressed in a long white dress with black boots and black wristbands. He also wore black knee pads and a white thong but those were hidden under his dress. He also brought a black gift box with a red bow.
“Hey Rikishi, how’s it going?” Vito asked friendly.
“Oh hey! You’re Vito! I was watching your match earlier. You did great. Sit down,” Rikishi said as he made room on the couch. Vito walked over and sat next to Rikishi.
“Thanks, I appreciate it. So glad I caught you at a good time. I wanted to ask you something,” Vito said.
“What is it?” Rikishi asked.
“Well, I heard about your club and…I was thinking about joining…”
“Oh really? I assume you know what you have to do to join…” Rikishi said slyly.
“Well yeah but I’m straight, you know,” Vito replied. Rikishi looked at him confused.
“Oh, don’t let the dress fool you. I love the ladies, you know. It’s just that…there’s something special about your ass…” Vito explained.
“I…seem to have that effect on a lot of people…” Rikishi replied.
“Which is why I brought this,” Vito said as he handed the gift box to Rikishi. Rikishi opened it and stared confusedly at the contents. He pulled out what was a brown medium length wig and after that, a large, long black dress.
“What is this for?” Rikishi asked.
“Well…I thought that…If I was going to do…you know…I felt like…you wearing this will help me…get used to you. You know what I’m saying?” Vito explained.
“You want me to dress up like a woman so that you can kiss my ass!?” Rikishi asked.
“Well when you put it that way…”
Rikishi stood up in frustration but Vito stopped him.
“Hey, it’s not like you haven’t dressed like a woman before,” Vito said.
“Yeah but that time, I did it…for Stephanie…” Rikishi explained.
“Come on, it’s just a dress and wig. It’s not like I’m making you put on makeup and heels. Please, I want to join this club,” Vito pleaded.
Rikishi sighed before answering.
“Alright I’ll do it. You want anything else?” Rikishi asked.
“Thank you! Now that you mention it, I’d like a lap dance if you please,” Vito suggested.
“Sit on the couch. Close your eyes. I’m going to get ready…” Rikishi teased.
Vito did what was told and waited. He was there for a few minutes until he heard music playing. It was one of Rikishi’s theme songs, ‘You Look Fly Today”. Vito opened his eyes and saw Rikishi standing in front of him wearing the tight black dress, brown wig and black boots. A boombox was on the floor playing his theme song.
Rikishi began to dance, grind and twerk sensually. Vito is left mesmerized. Rikishi then sat in Vito’s lap, grinding against him. He turned around and started grinding his ass against Vito’s crotch. Once he felt Vito’s cock getting stiff, he stood up and hiked up his dress to reveal his black thong-clad ass. Rikishi plays with his thong, teasing Vito, wedging and lowering his thong with Vito catching glimpses of his crack.
He eventually puts his legs together, bends over and pulls his thong down to his ankles, revealing his bare beautiful ass. He turns to pick up his thong and flings it at Vito’s face. Vito catches it and gets a good whiff. Rikishi is now standing there, hands on his hips. He is getting excited, thick cock twitching slightly and bulging from his dress. He smiles down at Vito and is ready to give him more.
He lifts his leg and puts one foot on the top of the couch, next to Vito’s head. He gives Vito the chance to put his face against Rikishi’s thigh. Vito feels up his thigh with his face and hands, giving it some kisses. The kisses arouse Rikishi, his cock gets harder and is inches from Vito’s face. Rikishi lets him do the same for his other thigh. This makes Vito harder as well, cock bulging through his white dress. Rikishi rewards this by turning back around and bending over, pulling his black dress up and spreading his cheeks.
Vito's face is an inch away from Rikishi’s brown winking asshole. Vito uses his hands to feel up Rikishi’s warm, thick cheeks. He grips them tightly to brace himself and keep them spread. Then, he finally buries his face into Rikishi’s ass, reveling in it. The taste, the musk. It's as sweet as Vito imagined. Rikishi puts his hands on his knees when he feels Vito’s tongue touch his asshole. Ever the tease, Rikishi gyrates, twerking his ass in a circular motion. Vito’s face is so buried into Rikishi’s ass, his head moves in tandem with the ass. Vito eventually ends up with his nose on Rikishi’s crack, tongue in his asshole, and chin pressing against his ballsack. After a few minutes of ass-eating, Rikishi pulls away, leaving a saliva trail from Vito’s lips to his ass.
Vito is so hard and eager to take his thong off but Rikishi stops him. Rikishi then strokes his semi-erect cock, precum leaking out the tip.
“If you want your cock in my ass, then I need to put my cock in your mouth first,” Rikishi said seductively.
Vito stared at Rikishi’s thick cock and back at him, nodding in agreement. Rikishi then grabs Vito’s head and presses Vito’s face against his stomach. Vito kisses Rikishi’s stomach as he moves Vito’s head lower and lower. Rikishi pulls his black dress over Vito’s head. Vito’s lips end up at the base of Rikishi’s cock. He licks the base up to the leaking tip and engulfs his mouth onto Rikishi’s cock.
Rikishi holds Vito’s head in place as he thrusts his cock in and out of Vito’s mouth. Vito has some trouble getting used to the taste of Rikishi’s cock but he just pretends that it’s not attached to a man right now so he just vigorously sucks. Rikishi didn’t expect to reach his climax so soon and he accidentally shoots a load of cum down Vito’s thoat. Vito is surprised as he, by reflex, swallows his salty semen. Vito pulls his mouth off Rikishi’s cock to speak, leaving a trail of cum from his mouth.
“Hey! What the fuck was that about!?” Vito complained.
“Oh shit. Sorry about that,” Rikishi replied. Vito stood up and wiped the cum off his mouth before speaking again.
“Just for that, you're getting put in the Dress Code!” Vito declared as he put Rikishi on his knees and lifted his white dress to show his white thong-clad erection. Vito then pulled off his white thong and tossed it aside. He began to flap his dress, giving Rikishi brief glimpses of his erect cock. It was then that Rikishi realized that the Dress Code (also known the Code of Silence) was Vito’s signature move, one that he used to humiliate several men and make them submit. Before Rikishi could react, Vito had pulled his dress over Rikishi’s head and held Rikishi’s arms to his back to restrain him. Vito’s cock and balls were now being smeared all over Rikishi’s face, leaving some precum around it. Vito’s cock kept poking Rikishi’s cheeks so Rikishi kept moving his head to avoid catching Vito’s cock with his mouth.
Eventually, Vito’s tip found Rikishi’s lips and he was able to slide his cock into Rikishi’s mouth, surprising him. Rikishi was now trapped in the Dress Code with Vito thrusting his cock in his mouth. Seeing no way to break free, Rikishi begins to suck him off in the hopes that it will give him an opening to escape. Vito is surprised at how good Rikishi is at this. Rikishi is on his knees giving him an amazing blowjob and he couldn’t help but put his hands on Rikishi’s head, releasing Rikishi’s arms. Rikishi sucks him off and uses this opportunity to pull his mouth off Vito’s cock, leaving him fully erect and lubricated.
Rikishi crawls away on all fours and wipes off the precum off his face. However, Rikishi had his ass raised up presenting himself to Vito. Vito finally sees the chance to take what you have dreamed, takes off his white dress, and crawls on all fours towards Rikishi. One behind him, Vito lifts up Rikishi’s black dress to see his beautiful ass again. He places one hand on the ass and uses the other to adjust his cock. He slowly inserts it till he is balls deep into his ass. Rikishi gasped, almost forgetting that this was part of the deal. Vito thrusts in and out, building up a rhythm. Once settled, he picks up his pace, resting his hands on Rikishi’s hips.
Vito was now truly fucking Rikishi. His ass is tight, squeezing Vito’s cock. It feels warm, it feels great. Both men get into it, thighs and balls smacking against each other. Vito bends over, resting his chest against Rikishi’s strong back. Vito holds onto Rikishi’s chest and stomach as he feels his climax building up. After a few strong thrusts, Vito finally cums in Rikishi’s ass. He reaches around and starts stroking Rikishi’s cock, making him cum as well. Vito and Rikishi let out some satisfying moans and both fall to the side to bask in the afterglow.
A few minutes pass and Vito and Rikishi are getting dressed again. Rikishi takes off his brown wig but keeps the black dress on. Instead, he gives Vito his black thong.
“Welcome to the club Vito. Here’s something to remember me by,” Rikishi said.
“Thanks for helping me get used to you. I’m looking forward to putting you in the Dress Code again,” Vito joked.
“Maybe you’ll be the one in the Dress Code next time,” Rikishi laughed as he flapped his black dress to show his cock and balls. Rikishi also turned around to lift the back of his dress and slap his bare ass cheeks a few times. Vito laughed as he walked out. He took a whiff of Rikishi’s thong, fantasizing about the next time they meet.
THE END

2024.05.28 00:34 xSenzeii Define the term “Busted / Cheap CAC”

I would like to start a dialogue. If you see this, yes I’m talking about you (You know who you are).
TLDR; is having lots of stamina and wanting to survive cheap????
Arguing with some guy in pvp. Calls my CAC busted coz I’ve set him up to have lovely stamina in combination with that “Power! A lot of it” super soul. He’s complaining that it’s too much stamina and it’s cheap. I’m a Male Earthling (fair, I’ll give him that) but I do my best to keep a level of respect when playing because I’m very aware of how easy it is for me to play cheap.
Keep in mind, we have people that play 3 bar super soul F Majins for fun.
Anyway, matches go on (I should note that he chooses to stay even though I told him he can now just block me and never see my name on his screen again), and he’s getting more and more frustrated. He’s using Gamma 2 and then saying that I don’t know how to break stamina. G2 Super soul gives instant stamina refresh on break so why would I willingly do that when I’m on 2 bars of stamina left????
There’s more but I cba to type all that. Anyway, am I crazy or is bro not playing with his head on straight? This why A18 broke vegetas arm. Too cocky, I feel… Please tell me if I’m in the wrong

2024.05.28 00:33 PlainJaneWriting [A4A] Thrown in prison with your Space Pirate King/Queen [sequel] [sci fi] [space opera] [yandere] [rivals to lovers] [chaotic good x chaotic neutral] [captured] [alien speaker] [human listener] [space pirate listener]

Summary: Your last encounter with Captain Kismet was unsettling, but has not put you off your goals or your plans. But the would-be space pirate king/queen is not one to give up, and unfortunately they’ve tracked you down at the worst possible time...
Part 1 Here
Word count: approx 1900
Must give credit, Ok to monetize. If you use this script, leave a link to your fill in the comments!
Feel free to change around suggested SFX, omit, or to create your own soundscape. Always okay to gender swap, change pronouns, change names, etc. Small line adjustments for easier flow are fine, but please no major changes to the story unless you ask first!
__Script begins__
SFX: a dungeon, complete with dripping walls and the occasional rattle of chains. In the distance, an eerie electronic humming/chanting.
SFX: the door swings open. The electronic sound gets louder.
Captain! Fear not - I’ve come to rescue you!
SFX: (alt voice) Get in there, pirate scum!
After one or two small details to work out. Oof!
SFX: a thump of the speaker shoved into a cell
SFX: the CLANG of metal bars slamming shut
My goodness, you hyperdrive cultists really go all out on the atmosphere. Did you import the moisture just to make your cells unpleasantly damp? (calling out after the guard as the guard retreats) My compliments to the Great Ascended Pooh-bah Muckety Muck Whatever!
SFX: the dungeon door swings shut
Whew, I thought that acolyte would never leave. Built like a bunkercraft under the robes, wasn’t he? You’ve got to hand it to the Holy and Agile Order of Interplanetary Paths and Engineering, they must have their followers on a killer work-out routine.
...
Captain? My darling. Speak to me. Are you all right?
...
Are you sure? You’re hitting your head rather rhythmically against that wall.
...
Hm. Think the translator glitched there, I heard that as “what fresh hell is this”? Doubtless some quaint and clever human turn of phrase, meaning ‘what undiluted rivers of joy I feel, now that Captain Kismet has arrived to save me in my hour of need.’
...
Yes, I did notice that I’m in a cell too. Sadly, not in the same cell as you. These cultists really have no sense of the thing. I should be kneeling over you, tenderly wiping your bruises and cuts...
...
They didn’t actually hurt you, did they? Don’t get me wrong, a little roughed up is a nice look on you, but, hm. Which one was it that laid hands on you?
...
Never you mind why I care. Idle curiosity. Which one was it?
...
The one in the robe and the overstylized mask. Hahaha. No matter. Plenty of folk matching that description running around.
...
What am I doing here? I told you, human. I came to rescue you. You hear that outside?
SFX: slight raise on the drone swells
It’s the beginning of the Puissant Calibration, where all four of Kayo’s moons and that one big asteroid will all come into alignment. Every priest, sensei, hieromonk, and intern in this temple are going to have their eyes on the skies. That’s our opportunity to escape - with this.
SFX: rustle of fabric
...
That’s right, Captain. A universal key and galactic lockbreaker combination micro mini multitool. They say only seventeen were ever made. Just four still survive. And this one is mine. You just sit right there, my dear. I’ll have you out in two shakes of a gambada swan’s tail feathers.
SFX: beep beep beep - then a sad ‘game-over’ boooooop.
Huh. That’s... oh, it’s not... Hmm. No wifi down here. Okay. No problem. Let’s try...
SFX: a mechanical whirrr - and a harsh Ka-CHUNK.
Oh, shoot.
...
No! Nothing’s wrong! That’s, ahem. That’s the beauty of the universal key and galactic lockbreaker combo multitool. There’s always another tool to multi. Let’s see, we’ve got the uh...
SFX: clink of the tool
...
The lock is what? ... Just.. an old rusty lock? No electronic component? No clockwork mechanism? No high powered laser booby traps, no crystal rods rigged to explosives?
...
(heavy sigh) No problem. No problem at all! An old fashioned solution for an old fashioned problem. Diamond edged nail file. Coming up.
SFX: Metal sawing as the speaker gets down to it.
...
Yep. Just a little elbow grease here, and we’ll be on our way, Captain.
...
Oh Captain, of course I found you. Our destinies are meant to intertwine, the fates themselves are pulling us into orbit. Also, it was fairly obvious if you were going to break out the prisoners in the slave mines, you’d need a route out of the system. So I asked myself, Kismet, what is the most insane way possible that one could get their hands on the Agile Order’s top secret interstellar telemetry data? And then wouldn’t you know it: here you were. Waiting for me.
...
The lock is coming just fine, thank you.
...
That’s where you’re wrong, my dear. I assure you, I am absolutely used to working with my hands. Once we get out of here, I’d be happy to show just how dextrous I can be.
...
(taken aback) I - I’m sure I don’t know what you mean by that. Me? Grow up on the Imperial planet? Please, Captain. I think you have me confused with someone else. The Imperials would shoot me out of the sky if a pirate like me dared to even approach their star system -
...
(suddenly harsh) Don’t speak that name here.
...
Oh, very good. Very clever, Captain. I see you’ve done your research too.
I am not an Imperial. Not... anymore. I never really was, not in any real sense of having any power. Six hundred and seventeenth from the throne doesn’t get you more than a one bedroom apartment, a military commission, and the occasional appearance in the duller celestial tabloid rags.
...
Yes. I suppose that is more than many people get in this galaxy. How did you know?
...
Don’t be coy. No one else has even suspected the circumstances of my origin. You figured it out in weeks. What did I give away?
...
I recognized you as human? How did that...
Oh.
Oh, of course. How else could I so confidently recognize a human unless I was familiar with them. And where else in the galaxy are humans so concentrated except in the Imperial palaces.
...
Don’t be dramatic. “Imperial slaves” is a rather prejudicial descriptor. Humans are highly valued contributors as administrators and teachers and, and...
...
“Pets” is hardly accurate either - Ugh. Why am I defending the Empire to you? You know what? Yes. You are absolutely right. Humans have been treated dreadfully by the Imperial family. Snatched off your home world, forced into service. One of the many sins the Empire has to answer for.
...
I am not trying to force you into the same situation - ! (clears throat, gets ahold of themself). Captain. I left the Imperials because I could no longer sit back casually and watch it happen any longer. The casual cruelty towards anyone who wasn’t us, building a pyramid of our peoples so we could hold the top for ourselves. I came to believe that there could be a different kind of system, one built on freedom and merit. You know how I came to believe in that?
...
Humans.
...
Every human I’ve ever gotten to know, I’ve admired. Even with the might of the Empire on your necks, there’s this unsquashable idealism inside you. This unshakable belief that things could be better. That things should be better. A rather inspiring perspective. One that I’ve taken with me.
...
That’s absolutely right, I take what I want. I’m making my own mark in this galaxy, with a name all my own, a family I choose myself.
Imagine my surprise and delight when I made it out here and found a human with the same ideas, same ideals, just waiting for me.
...
Yes, yes, not literally waiting for me. But - can’t see you see how this is meant to be? For both of us! I’m building the kind of kingdom that a human can be at home in. I’ve longed to see what any one of you would be capable of, if only given the freedom to exercise that intelligence, that passion. Now here’s the best human in the galaxy, right in front of me.
...
Don’t be modest, my dear. You are absolutely the best human I’ve ever met.
...
What’s that supposed to mean, “I think like an Imperial”? My dear Captain, why are you so resistant to this? Can’t you see I’m offering you a place at my side? Help me take this quadrant and we could rule. You would be second only to me! What could possibly be a worthier goal?
...
Ugh. Look, if breaking into the necronium mines means that much to you, I’ll help you.
...
Oh ho. Now I have your attention, don’t I? How very foolish of me not to realize sooner. Of course - my help in liberating the necronium mines: that’s your price.
...
Everyone has a price, human. That’s not thinking like an Imperial. That’s thinking like a pirate.
....
You’re a very strange pirate indeed, Captain. Because you’re not after the necronium or even the equipment and mining stations and spacecraft, are you? You’re out to free the slaves. How deliciously naive.
...
Oh, I believe you can. With the crystal encoded keys and the secret maps of the Holy and Agile Order, you’re most of the way there. The question is - after you liberate the captives, where do you intend to go with them?
...
Don’t turn away from me. I want to know. How will you fit them all into that little minnow ship of yours? Where will you bring all those thousands of half-starved, penniless, desperate fugitives? It seems to me that what you might need, more than anything, is a safe little corner of the galaxy where penniless, desperate fugitives might hide from the long tendrils of Imperial law. Hmmmm. Now I wonder who might be able to offer that to you...
...
...
You know exactly what I want in return.
...
You’re really considering it, aren’t you? You wouldn’t consider coming to my side for yourself, not for power, not for comfort. But for thousands of people you’ve never even met... Oh human. I’m going to such incredible things with you beside me.
...
To have you? Darling, I’d take in millions of refugees in exchange for you. A {king/queen} needs subjects after all. And I wouldn’t mind my own direct source of necronium while I’m at it...
...
No, I’m not going to put different slaves in the mines. We’ll... hire laborers. Hm, maybe some of the slaves would prefer to stay and run it themselves once we take over... Yes, yes, this is going to be quite an operation. But worth it. For you. Lay out your terms. And you’d better hurry, it sounds like the Holy Molys upstairs are hitting the exciting part.
...
Agreed. Safe passage for all to my harbor planet.
...
Oh, you don’t miss a trick, human. Safe and free passage. No debts owed, absolute freedom to stay or leave.
...
Food and housing for one galactic year!? Oh my dear. Don’t play your cards too aggressively.
...
We’ll see what we can do. We have some weeks to plan all this -
...
It can’t wait?
...
In ten days!? Oh my darling. I’m flattered by your confidence in me, but there is no way in the thirteen halls of hell we’re going to take over the largest Imperial prison mine in ten days-
...
Hey, calm down-. ... Lower your voice. Lower your voice! They’ll hear us!
...
I am not - Now, that is just uncalled for. I am making an extremely generous offer. What is your rush? You have a burning need to rescue the slaves that are there right now?
...
You... do. Don’t you? How foolish of me. This is some moral crusade. You’re saving... who? A friend? (building jealousy) A lover?
...
Never you mind why I care. Who is it?
...
A mistake? Oh no, Captain. My dear, dear human. You can’t go back on our deal. Not when we’re starting to get somewhere. You know so much about me. We’re just starting to learn about you - What’s that you’ve got there?
SFX: A rusty key squealing in the lock. The clunk of the lock cracking open.
...
You... had the key all along?! Captain, you -! .... Oh, of course. You knew about the Puissant Calibration. You’ve been waiting, here in the dungeon, to time your escape. You clever little...
...
Darling, surely you’re not going to leave me here?
...
Shades of deja vu. You’re right, I can get myself out of this. But more to the point, can you get yourself away from me?
SFX: a distant explosion. The chanting abruptly cuts off, replaced with distant shouts and screams.
Or to be more specific, you think you can get yourself away from the full might of my pirate armada?
...
That’s right, darling. Never say I don’t learn from my mistakes. The full might of my fleet is here to take this temple, this planet - and the spaceport, where I assume you’ve got that little minnow stashed?
...
(voice starts to fade as the listener runs) Run all you like, human! Even if you get away, I know where you’re going next. And I know where your heart lies. Run! Run faster! You can’t outrun Captain Kismet and your fate! (fading laughter)

2024.05.28 00:31 HaninMias 450 Hour Update: The Long March

This is my first update. Bear with me here. I wanted to write this at 300, but now I'm at 450 somehow.
Intro - Why CI Works and Feels Good
On the drive back from a beautiful botanical garden in Mexico, I was the only person able to speak Spanish amongst my white family, and our driver was a very talkative fellow who knew basically zero English. There was no internet out there, so no google translate. I had learned Spanish only from high school classes, and it was a disaster. I think I said "tenga miedo?" at one point. At the end of the drive I apologized for my bad Spanish, but he encouraged me to keep learning since he would try to do the same with English. We bonded through our terrible levels of each other's languages, and I honestly think that conversation motivated to learn Spanish more than anything.
The methods I tried in my journey prior to CI did not work. Do I really need to go into detail? Language transfer? Nope. Flashcards? Nope. Talking to the taqueria cashier in Spanish? Hell no. Watching casa de los flores with Spanish subtitles? Nope. Nothing felt like it was really working.
In hindsight, the dreaming spanish/comprehensible input method makes so much sense you can't believe you ever felt differently. We learn through actively acquiring and being immersed in our native languages. In a class for my education minor, we learned about how exploring a topic on your own is a great way to actually remember what you're learning. The CI method is exactly that: exploring. Like our prepubescent selves, we are actively filing out our mental maps of the language. Each new word, phrase, and structure, adds to this map, clearing the gray areas from our heads.
Part of the effectiveness of the exploration process are the "A-ha" moments that feel so rewarding. I remember listening to Learn Spanish and Go while waiting for the bus and they used the word "sobresalir" and its meaning just clicked perfectly into place. It was a very gratifying moment, and I've remembered the word ever since. Brute forcing a word through looking it up can potentially work, but internalizing it through multiple contexts of immersion cements it better than anything.
It seems like language learning is figuring out which way to make as much vocabulary stick in your head as possible, and CI does that the best for me. Traditional grammar studying and looking up/translating words weren't really working for me. I would just forget everything constantly. And most importantly, that method was BORING. Without some excitement and tangible progress, what's the point?
What works best for me is a mix of very understandable and just barely understandable content. Both help me learn and remember in different ways. Knowing almost every word singles out those words I don't know and helps me get closer to getting them through context. Harder content challenges me, has usually been much more interesting than other stuff along the journey, and acclimates me to the sound of faster Spanish. This is what I do personally, and it might not be the most efficient way, but it keeps me motivated. The content I used along the way follows.
The Content
Dreaming Spanish - Usage
I found the first 50-150 hours of the journey to be quite difficult. You have to make listening a habit, power through some sort of boring content, and generally feel a bit confused a lot. I watched a lot of DS and a tiny bit of cuentame.
I watch DS more now than ever honestly. I really enjoy videos like Pablo's personal stories in that idyllic little park in Thailand. Conversational content is overall still my favorite though. I just feel like listening to a convo is much easier to pay attention to and not space out than solo stuff.
DS - The Guides
Pablo: Not much to say about the goat. Would love to see him play other games (especially dark souls but more on this later).
Andres: He's just hilarious all around. I love how bad he is at spyfall and other games. He also apparently has an insane life. Was a military firefighter who once dated two gals at once (if he wasn't joking about that). His content is super accessible, and I recommend his advanced series on his military experience to everyone level 4 on beyond, since it's actually pretty easy to understand, and it's super interesting. His videos are always a must watch for me.
Shelcin: Everyone needs to be nicer to Shelcin because she's never done anything wrong ever and when they make fun of her my heart turns a little more blackened
Natalia: She rocks so much. I really hope she continues to do videos with the other teachers since she has fantastic vibes and speaks so very clearly.
Sandra: At first I wasn't a fan of solo talking to camera videos, but as I got more input, her videos really started to click. She's a genuine person, probably would be a cool friend. It's a shame she doesn't interact with other guides, but I assume she's off doing other stuff now and we're just watching backlog stuff.
The Rest: Everyone else is great, but I just don't have much to add about them.
Podcasts:
Spanish for False Beginners: This is premium intermediate CI. It's conversational, at a pretty solid but not too fast pace, the topics are interesting, and there are NO ADS. I really really hate when podcasts have like 2 minutes of ads at the start and end like No Hay Tos since I listen to podcasts at work sometimes where I can't easily skip forward. The podcasts is Oscar from Intermediate Spanish Podcast and his boyfriend (not native speaker fyi) riffing on various topics. They're super cute. Big recommend for this level.
Español Con Juan: I started this podcast at around 200 hours. It was very challenging. It's easier to space out when you find content a little too hard, so I definitely missed some of the middle episodes where he talked about kings and stuff. But when I go back to listen to new episodes it's just insane how clear he is for me now. I can understand basically everything he says at 450 hours. So give him a chance. You really just gotta get used to his speaking style, and then it's not as hard as it seems. And of course, the content itself is amazing, but you all already know that. I hope to live to see the day he tells the story about the dog.
Intermediate Spanish Podcast with Oscar: Starts out kind of slow, and is a little harder than ECJ, but it's just such good input. He gets into some great, even very personal topics later on and speaks very clearly. I've grown to really enjoy this one, even though it's a bit dryer than ECJ.
No Hay Tos: Too hard! And I will never pay for Rosetta stone. I'll give them a chance again soon though. I like the conversational style a lot and they seem funny.
LenguaTalk: Pretty short but great lower Intermediate conversational Spanish between a married couple from Spain. Very cute!
Other Content:
Hajime No Ippo The Spanish dub for this incredible anime is on YouTube for free. I've seen this before, so while it was incredibly difficult to watch at around 300 hours, I did get used to the pace and understood the vast majority of episodes by the end. You'll learn a lot of boxing terms if you're ever wondering how to say HE FELL TO THE CANVAS!!! A DEVASTATING RIGHT HOOK!! In Spanish. But really, this show is so good. The characters are excellent and the boxing is just so fun and tense. Big recommend.
Songs: This is a fairly controversial topic on this sub it seems. I've listened to a ton of songs in Spanish. I don't count this as input, but I genuinely think it can be helpful sometimes to remember vocabulary, especially if you find the song good and catchy. Some genres, like hip hop and reggaeton, are much harder to understand on average than others. I recommend folk and rock to start.
Here's a playlist I made of songs that are somewhat comprehensible at my level: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4fKeoBQI76Dc1vt6VhuDgY?si=edh6uxdXS-S3T0k50KRDkQ&pi=bUJOeicMRk64-
How to Survive the Long March - Things I've Learned Along the Way
  1. Watch content you enjoy. If you can't find that at your level, which I definitely experienced at the beginner stage, watch content solely for the purpose of finding new vocab. It's not ideal, but coming at it from an "exploration" mindset can make mundane content much more tolerable.
  2. Be realistic about your capabilities. I was shooting for 2 hours a day months ago. I barely hit that goal. Lowering it to 90 minutes helped a ton. Now I'm at 100, and pretty consistent about it too.
  3. Find out what helps you keep going. What content works for you? How do you stay motivated? I personally listen to a ton of Spanish at the gym. Even though it's sometimes distracting, making learning Spanish synonymous with improving myself physically has been incredibly motivating. What's your goal for learning Spanish? I want to be able to communicate better with my Spanish speaking students when I'm a teacher. Being able to actually talk in Spanish would be incredibly helpful for me, so I kind of keep that fire under my feet to keep me motivated and consistent.
Musings
Pablo. PLEASE. please stream elden ring. i need someone to play the souls games with intermediate/advanced CI commentary. this is all i want in life. I will give you 20 dollars personally if this happens. I will venmo you. imagine the DS team playing mario kart or mario party together. 8 player smash bros with every guide. ok that's too far. but gaming content could be really good. how often do we get CI of Spanish speakers getting mad as hell at a game?
This method is going to absolutely blow up one day. People are going to be min maxing the best ways to get input in. They'll be watching 54 level difficulty videos at 1.17 times speed for maximum input. There will be official CI speedruns. This method is so ingenious I kind of can't believe a big corporation hasn't made it as soulless and profitable as possible yet. Get in on the CI train while it's still cool!!
DS has made me think a lot about how little content guys watch that is made from women in general. I didn't watch very many female Youtubers at all when I was in high school, and I think this was true of many friends of mine. I never would have watched something like Michelle's skincare or astrology series in English, so I really appreciate the wide variety of content and diversity one gets exposes to while going through this process.
Future
I'm going to start reading soon, but to avoid the pronunciation thing I'm going to listen to an audiobook as I read along. I have no idea if this will work. That's fine. I'm not a scientist I'm just a guy. I'm doing my best.
No speaking for a while too. I've spoken a little bit, and yeah, it's bad. I don't wanna sound like the Españolistas guy. So I'm waiting like a good boy 😃
Goal is 600 hours by August, when I start student teaching in a Teacher's Credential program. Whether I'll have any time for Spanish at that point, I really don't know.
Conclusion
Comprehensible input is very rewarding and motivating. It's the method that has worked best for me. I can genuinely say I've improved a ton at listening already. Progress is slow, but man it's so worth it. Learning Spanish gives you the ability to talk to so many more people, and that's a beautiful thing.
Good luck on the long march. It's nice to have a very friendly community to struggle alongside. So, thank you all and see you around.

2024.05.28 00:29 Select-Information91 All You need to know regarding PGs / Accommodation Near Bannerghatta Rd Campus

Its been 1 year since i arrived in Bengaluru , i dont go to Christ university but i have lived near the Bannerghatta campus
So congrats, you got into Bannerghatta campus, now it comes to accommodation part, usually during the month of may / June you will see peak openings as most people from previous year vacate pg. You have lot of options in hand now. Some of the famous PGs near bannerghatta Campus would be MyRoomie, Your space, Colive Stanza living (now closing down supposedly ) and some local ones which are cheaper at the cost of Sq FT , And most of these will range around 10-15k Per month Double sharing . Rooms are gonna be small , But ofc you can Choose certain pgs which offer you more Sq Ft
(// Me personally having stayed at Stanza living Denver house was paying close to 14k for 10 month)
So you can expect your living rental cost + the food which is included (which you probably wont eat after a while ) Boils down to a cost of 1 Lakh to 1.5 Lakh per Annum Excluding Misc pocket expenses
SO where should i choose my PG near?
  1. For people who are Scared or Worried Bengaluru is a big change.
Ideally you want to be living close to the campus to save time in transporation but that comes at an expensive cost. You can look for areas like Pai Layout / Hulimavu if you are scared of Living all alone or worried that Bengaluru can be a big change, these areas are nearby, offers a good mall, Lot of eatery, food trucks, So if you are looking to save money for food, thats possible
You can live literally anywhere you want From Dollars colony to Kalena Agrahara BUT on a condition that you live close to bannerghatta main road, which will be your key way of transporation in one single way , extremely cheap, and for girls who are worried about their Safety , they can choose AC buses, which can make u feel little more safe. The more you go north the more city vibes u will experience, the more malls, and the more you go south, that city vibe will decrease.
For people commenting gottigere or JP nagar is a good idea as well, I believe no due to its location, Kind of people, and safety and pricing.
Dont go for PGs, Seriously. You can have a good house, assuming 1RK/1bhk Under 8-10k with some second hand furniture. I would like you to Go a little hard on yourself, and come 1 month ago , and start finding flats, Although personally i am someone who is Introverted, and away from all the booze, parties, etc etc,
IF you get a good flat, not only you will find your rental price is cheap compared to Pgs, You have insane amount of space, You can live alone, You can bring in your partners without any restrictions. You can try living with your friend in a 2 BHK as well which i would advise. Some capital Investments in cooking utensil, can bring that cost of living from 1.5-2 Lakhs (including misc), To under 1 Lakh if done correctly (Yes i am dead serious) with massive improvement in quality of living compared to your peers living in hostel/ PGs
Now lets cover some section regarding choosing a room in pg and some tips and tricks
Important note :- Please read the rental agreement you make with anyone, pg, houseowner, etc very carefully, Stanza living forcefully vacated us out to a girls pg and made it into co-ed because of a clause, although i have filed a complaint in consumer court, these kind of stuff really messes up your daily schedule
For girls, You should be aware that there are incidents of harassment by auto drivers near the campus itself, The locality **looks** very safe, but isnt even with a police station. I myself had to intervene 6 times where locals were either trying to harass a girl cause she wasnt speaking kannada while asking for milk, or especially with Auto drivers, demanding more money etc
Although it really pains me to say this but, at least for the first few month, roam along with your friends at night , not alone, Book uber rapido with captains who have rating higher than 4.7 + Avoid Autos if you can, Opts for Cabs or my personal fav AC
Personal note :- I was paying close to 140,000 (rent)+ 50k Misc expense (annual including transport) while i stayed at pg and my quality of living was really bad. Now i am in semi furnished apartment with my furniture, (table sofa- bed and chair) my own bike and cooking appliances . My rental cost goes till 60,000 per annum . A massive decrease, allowing me to easily afford a bike but this was possible at the expense of location which i dont mind cause now i can travel anywhere without having to worry electricity cost, no water cost because of govt subsidy given to local house owners)
Overall, Its a great city, By far my second Fav, I have lived in 6 cities so far. Blr wont disappoint you and good luck.
If you got any question . Let me know in comments , i will try to answer. thats all i had to say

2024.05.28 00:29 FrauleinHabsburg crashing crashing crashing

My game keeps crashing. No mods. All DLC up to and including arms against tyranny. Start new game, doesnt matter if its 36 or 39, doesnt matter if I actually play as a nation and do things, or just simply watch the game. Starting in 36, running the game on speed 5, usually the game will crash before the start of '37.
I reopen the game, try again, sometimes I get lucky and the game runs for up to 10 mins, sometimes less than 2. The game crashes on random days in the middle of the month, ive also seen it crash on the autosave 1st of every month.
Stuff ive tried, validating files. Running in direct x 11, 9 and open GL. Clearing user cache. Disabling the full screen optimization. Completely uninstalling, then manually removing any remaining files, and reinstalling. Ensured Windows 11 is up to date, geforce nvidia drivers are up to date. I ran a windows diagnostic to see if maybe there was a problem with my RAM.
My specs: i7 14700kf 3.4ghz, 4060 rtx ti, 32 gb ram, 16 gb vram, windows 11 version 23H2.
I had hoi4 before arms against tyranny on an old PC and never had any problems. But my PC broke down and it took me about 2 months to get a new PC. I get my new PC (this one) and get HOI4 again maybe 1 week ago, along with the newest DLC arms against tyranny. The game ran longer without crashing at first, but it seems to crash quicker and quicker and more often now.
Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

2024.05.28 00:28 ReasonSad2759 Brain computer interface

150 lbs Canadian
Brain computer interface
Brain computer interface
A group of people mostly neuroscientists, engineers, and computer scientists illegally planted a brain torturing device inside my head 4 years ago. Started from a place where I rented a room and the landlord and his tenants ended up performing brain surgery to plant this brain computer interface. For 4 years I am being harassed and they dumbed down my brain, destroyed nerve cells so that my brain does not recover. Took me 4 years of being abused to find out more about this BCI. It can read my thoughts, see my thoughts, see my imaginations, hear my internal dialogue and emits their voices all in one device which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to convert my thoughts and imagination into text and images for these bad guys to see. After about 4 years I finally discovered the surgery they performed at the back of my head which they covered up with hair transplant. The skin at the back of my head and the skin on top of my head are totally different. For 4 years I have been trying to report these bad guys but I don’t have any sufficient evidence which is strong enough for the authorities to investigate. I am waiting on an MRI to be done in 4 months scheduled. Will the MRI show this device inside my head? These bad people are also chasing me around with wind whenever I am outside or riding my bike. They are also listening to my brain all the time and they are transmitted their voices. They were jealous of my brain which is why they did this and are getting away with such serious crime since no one would help me. Is there anything I am able to do? Please let me know.

2024.05.28 00:26 Betty-Adams Humans are Weird - Lids

Humans are Weird - Lids

Original Post: http://www.authorbettyadams.com/bettys-blog/humans-are-weird-lids
First Sister came lazily aware to the faint tingling her her antennas that indicated a human she knew had been shouting frantically a few rooms over in the echoing wooden hive. She stretched her legs mindful of the harsh ninety degree corners on the human furniture and idly reached down to pat Third Sister between her antenna when it looked like she was starting to stir. The light filtering through the ultraviolet shielding on the bedroom window showed that it was far to early for the diurnal humans to be generally away and around so there was no point in Third Sister adding herself to whatever chaos Human Second Cousin Betty was fomenting, presumably in the main work-shed if First Sister had any ability at all to judge distance and direction in the above ground structures. Her stretches finished she trotted out into the hallway, too cool and too quite by any Shatar Standard and felt her frill lay tight to her neck to preserve warmth. She followed the sounds of a human dancing in an anxious pattern that vibrated through the floor to her toes as much as through the air to her antenna, and found Human Second Cousin Betty with her hands flat on a counter glaring at what looked to First Sister like a relatively inoffensive printer. First Sister allowed herself another leisurely stretch as she considered the situation. The human literally dancing with impatience, the printer set to the fastest safe output, the scent of heated poly-carbons in the air, and the line of three heated-sand containers gleaming with fresh sterilization.
“You lost the lids again didn’t you?” First Sister asked, not trying very hard to keep the amusement out of the set of her antenna.
Human Second Cousin Betty snapped her head around in that swivel motion that had once been so disturbing and tightened her face into a properly intimidating glare.
“I am not the only person in this house!” Human Second Cousin Betty hissed, bypassing her vocal chords to avoid the deeper, louder notes that might wake the other humans. “This is not my fault! I told them that the honey-pot lids go on the high shelf when last season’s pot is empty! I know that I put one there myself!”
She flung her powerful arms up in a wave of frustration and glared down at the printer.
“Faster!” she hissed.
“The printers-” First Sister began, her mandibles twitching with barely constrained humor.
“Don’t respond to verbal commands!” Human Second Cousin Betty interrupted her, dancing sideways in frustration. “I know, I know, and printers can smell frustration so I shouldn’t let it know I am on a timeline! Or how embarrassing this is going to be even if I get all three hydro-proof lids printed before Old Woman Honey shows up with her vats! But I cannot face begging spare lids off of her again! We had extra lids last season! It’s going to be bad enough that when she sees the printed lids she’ll know we can’t keep the others...”
First Sister stood a little taller in shock as something Human Second Cousin Betty had said in her rant properly formed a thought vine.
“Second Cousin!” First Sister interjected with a warning click that the human heeded by stilling her dancing and spinning to face her. “Are you saying that the machine mind in this printer is complex enough to identify human emotion patterns and respond to them out of spite?”
Human Second Cousin Betty paused, and her head actually tilted to the side in a properly thoughtful gestures as she pondered that.
“No,” she said slowly, her face skin contorting into a frown. “I mean, I know it’s not supposed to...but it kind of does? Or maybe just acts like it? I don’t know-”
Her musing was interrupted by a faint click as the lid currently being printed dropped to the counter and the machine gave a friendly chirp as it started printing the next one.
“Watch this. I need to give this a smoothing bath after,” Human Second Cousin Betty said as she snatched up the lid, forced it down into the jar to shape it, and darted out the door, presumable to dunk the printed and shaped lid into a hardening bath.
Presumably she wanted First Sister to watched the automated systems print out the next lid. Was she expecting First Sister to observe for and report any signs of...spite? Resentment? In the device. It gave a little grinding noise that sounded like nothing short of contentment, bust First Sister still eased a little away. If humans needed to keep a continuous watch on machines as simple as printers for signs of active sabotage that might just be something she needed to report to a Grandmother. Of course it might just be human fancy and metaphor, but now that she ran those memory vines behind her eyes she could recall most of the humans showing physical and verbal affection to most of their complex machines. First Sister eased carefully closer to the printer that had just finished a complicated section of the lid. She raised a hand and patted the top gently enough not to disturb its work.
“Good printer,” she said, attempting to mimic the tone Human Second Father used on his truck.
“First Sister?” a voice called out from the door as Human Second Mother loomed into view, “What are you doing?”
The human’s tone spoke of perplexity and possibly amusement and First Sister had the sinking feeling that she had failed to consider the option of Human Second Cousin Betty’s behavior falling into the category of a ‘prank’.
“Making sure the printer cannot smell frustration?” First Sister answered, deciding on simple honesty.
Human Second Mother started at her in confusion for several long moments, and then burst out laughing before leaving without explanation. First Sister tilted a sideways glance at the printer. It was most likely only her imagination that it chuckled at her too.

2024.05.28 00:24 sicksixthloka My family saw a UFO, now we don’t speak.

My family experienced something I can’t explain, and we’ve stopped talking to each other. I don’t know what to do.
I don't want to sound crazy. We're normal people. If any of this sounds familiar, please reach out to me. I need to know what's happening to my family.
It's hard to know where to begin. I don't know when this all started, but it hasn't stopped.
I live with my wife and two college-aged daughters. I’m a private chef; my wife is a teacher. We live in a suburb outside a coastal US city, in an eighties-era planned community where every house and street feels like a mirror image. Crisp lawns, HOAs, everyone knows everyone. The people are a little bland, but we have a yard and a pool, and we can pay for groceries, and we can (barely) afford to send our kids to college out of state. We were lucky, I thought.
My first experience with the supernatural was last spring.
"Okay, you're really gonna hate this one," Sarah said. It was Monday, my Saturday, and I was grilling vegetables by the pool. My eldest daughter, a born trickster, sat on the least-broken pool chair, bombarding me with the most willfully ignorant pop music she could find, or terrible cooking videos, or clips of classic cars refurbished with electric motors.
Anything to get a reaction out of her poor, Gen X dad.
"Please, no. How about the guy who makes things out of chocolate?" I countered, hoping for a compromise.
"I’m looking for the Kings game you went to in 2006 where they lost 1 to 10." Sarah, jabbed.
"I’m burning your food on purpose.” I quipped.
"Wait." Sarah said, suddenly still.
Whatever this thing is, whatever these things are. My wife and my daughters feel it before I do. I don't know if they're more sensitive to it or what, but they always know something is there before me. Call it women's intuition.
"What's wrong?"
As I said it, I remember it got very quiet. Like the volume for the outside world turned all the way down. The birds, the traffic and the white noise of suburbia went silent. I couldn't even hear the sizzle of the vegetables cooking two feet in front of me.
The lack of sound didn't bother me however, because I saw something in the sky.
A disc.
I didn't want to see a disc. But I saw a disc. It was made of metal, perfectly smooth, no rivets, no seams, no wings, no exhaust. A perfectly formed metal disc, fifteen feet wide, like two contact lenses stuck together just... sitting there.
There were lights, big ones, bright in the sun even in the middle of the day, moving all around it.
I remember thinking... Really? Part of me was exasperated at how, well, dumb it looked. Like an old movie model. Only somehow, I knew it was real. And I was being watched.
And then I felt The Fear.
If you ask me I think the craft makes people feel it. I don't know. I know it sounds crazy. It’s like a madness. It fills you up, cold, just pure terror. As soon as your eyes see a craft, in a few seconds your mind blanks and you feel only fear of the thing in front of you. The disc-shaped ones, and the triangle shaped ones, they always seem to broadcast The Fear.
I’d never felt panic like that. I know how to deal with it a little easier now, but back then I wanted to put my daughter in the car and drive as far away from the thing as possible.
Only I was completely frozen.
I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. I could only move my eyes, and even that took tremendous effort. I struggled to look in my daughter‘s direction and saw she was equally paralyzed. Her pupils turned to me, then back to the craft.
And we did that for a few seconds, trying to process what was happening, looking to the disc, to each other, and back. It was agony.
And then the disc was gone.
I was looking right at it. It didn’t fly away, it didn't zoom off at incredible speeds. It was like it stopped existing while I was staring at it. When it was gone I could move and I could breathe and my daughter started crying, and I comforted her, and we swore and shook.
What the hell was that?
“Are you okay?!”
I remember we both asked that.
I remember reaching for my phone, but it was dead. Sarah’s phone was dead too. We went inside to charge them, still in a daze.
”Your face is really red,” said Sarah, concerned.
I caught my reflection in the hallway mirror. She was right. My face was burned. Like a sunburn. I wear sunblock every day and often work long hours in the sun. I never get sunburned.
“I’ll get you some aloe.” Sarah said, retreating into the downstairs bathroom.
I glanced at the oven clock. It was three hours later than I expected.
"Three hours?" I muttered.
"We were only outside for a few minutes... right?" Sarah's eyes widened in realization.
"What happened to us?" Sarah said softly.
We were missing time. I don’t know where that time went. I don’t know what happened during that time. Time feels weird around these things. It’s hard to describe.
We didn't talk much for a while. We just kind of sat in the living room, scrolling our phones. The evening darkened. I remember thinking I wanted to say something, but I didn't know what.
My wife Lauren and our youngest daughter Dani returning home from work broke us out of our malaise.
"A UFO burned your face?" Lauren said, incredulous. Lauren was always funny, even when she wasn't trying to be.
I won't lie, it sounded dumb. I tried to think of how to word it better.
"I saw it too. It was really weird." Sarah said, seriously.
"You sure you weren't standing too close to the grill again?" Dani teased. Her pants were covered in flour and oil, her hair pulled back. Dani worked at a restaurant, despite my objections.
"You're supposed to make the food in the restaurant, not on your outfit." I teased back. Dani smirked, she liked kitchen talk, she was a lot like me in that way.
"I don't understand, did you provoke them? Why'd they come all the way from space just to burn you?" Lauren asked, spreading student tests on the dining room table.
"Did it look like the ones we saw when we were kids?" Dani asked Sarah.
"No, this one was different. It was a different shape." Sarah said, shaking her head.
"What are you talking about? Which ones?" I asked, confused.
"Do you remember the night we saw the blue elf?" Dani asked.
Memories of Sarah and Dani as kids flooded my brain. One night, a brilliant blue light in the sky. Sarah and Dani ran into our room to hide. The feeling of someone watching. The memory filled me with dread. Feeling uncomfortable, I tried to change the subject.
"I don't want to cook tonight. Let's order out. What should we get?" I said, presenting a distraction.
We ate dinner as a family that night. We talked about normal things. I tried to seem unbothered, but I was obsessively turning over the sighting of the disc in my mind. What was that? Why couldn't we move?
The feeling stayed with me long after the meal had ended and the dishes were done. I remember that was our last normal dinner. I wish I'd made more of an effort that night. We'll never be the same family we were then.
I guess before I tell you about that night, I should explain what an Orb is.
An Orb is a kind of floating sphere. It looks kind of like a blue basketball filled with spaghetti-looking strands of... something. It has a mind, I think. I don't know what these things are. From what I can tell, they are unknowable. They will harm you. If you see an Orb, my advice is to run. They can move through walls.
The first night with the Orbs changed all of our lives forever. We stopped talking after that night.
I don't know if I can write it down in detail, yet. Even this was hard.
I read something recently.
Scientists have communicated with apes via sign language since the 1960’s. In all that time, apes have never asked a question. Maybe they can't conceive of what a question is. Their mind just can't form the reasoning to understand how to think of one.
I think that’s what it’s like when we see these things. These orbs, or discs, or whatever. Like we’re seeing something we can’t comprehend. I don’t think we think about aliens the right way. They’re not from another planet. They’re from somewhere else entirely.
Something has happened to my family. Something happened and we're still dealing with it, and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to tell people. We're afraid to talk about it with each other.
I'm not even sure if anyone will read this. The world needs to know what's out there, what my family experienced. My family can't be the first. There must be others.
If you're still with me after these ramblings, thank you. The next part will not be easy to write. But you deserve to know the full truth about what the Orbs did to us. What they're capable of.
For now, I present to you this information. I do not think we live in a completely material world. There are supernatural forces all around us, and most of them are unkind. Be careful with how you think, and what you think of.

2024.05.28 00:24 notnerdofalltrades Beatles Chronological Playlist

Hello I wanted to do a chronological playlist combining all The Beatles material on Spotify from the live releases, to studio tracks, to outtakes. Here is a link to the playlist and below are my justifications for the placements. Would be curious if anyone could tell me any sections where I may have went wrong with the dates. This project has inspired me to dig deeper into the bootlegs of the studio sessions and I’ve already begun doing that so maybe I will make a post about that at some point as well.
1958-1961
1 We Were Four Guys… That’s All [Anthology 1]
Actually an interview clip from December 8 1970. Placed here for sequencing like in Anthology 1.
2 The Quarrymen - That’ll Be The Day [Anthology 1]
3 The Quarrymen - In Spite Of All The Danger [Anthology 1]
Two Quarrymen recordings from July 12 1958. These are the only official releases of the Quarrymen on Spotify. You may see another song listed by them on their Spotify but this is actually a different group.

5 Hallelujah I Love Her So [Anthology 1]
6 You’ll Be Mine [Anthology 1]
7 Cayenne [Anthology 1]
1960 home demos. Left the sequencing the same as Anthology 1. Not sure on exact dates, but the interview clip mentions Hallelujah so I think it makes sense to start with.
8 First Of All… It Didn’t Do A Thing Here [Anthology 1]
Actually an interview clip from October 27 1962 but placed here for sequencing like Anthology as he mentions the Tony Sheridan recordings.
9 My Bonnie [Anthology 1]
10 Ain’t She Sweet [Anthology 1]
11 Cry For A Shadow [Anthology 1]
All recording with Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers June 22 1961. The June 22nd date is disputed

12 Brian Was A Beautiful Guy… He Presented Us Well [Anthology 1]

16 The Sheik Of Araby [Anthology 1]

Beatles Decca audition tape recordings. Recorded January 1 1962 from Anthology 1.

German version singles of I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You released March 5 1964*. These were done to try to penetrate the German market after The Beatles began to achieve international fame following I Want To Hold Your Hand going #1 in the US with pressure from Odeon execs. *Both Walter Everett and Barry Miles write the single was released in West Germany on March 5 1964, but the songs were not mixed for mono and stereo until the 10th and 12th. John C. Winn says the single was rush-released in West Germany after mixing, but does not provide a release date. See this for more details.

233 Long Tall Sally [Live At The Hollywood Bowl 2016 Remaster]
Recorded August 23 1964 at the Hollywood Bowl. I have decided to split Hollywood Bowl’s tracklist by day it was actually recorded and yes it does make the sequencing terrible. I did try to mirror the original setlist as closely as possible for that day, but both the The Paul McCartney Project and Beatles Bible list She Loves You as the 4th song, but the song features a clip saying “the next song will unfortunately be the last” making me think a different show show I put it second to last. The rest of the tracks on Hollywood Bowl are from the 1965 tour.

Hi! I'm a 25-year-old female in the EST time zone, seeking a serious long-term roleplay partner. Don't skim through this post. If you're going to do that, don't bother reaching out. You will need to be 21+. I have 10+ years of experience and prefer slice-of-life plots with twists—romance, drama, tragedy, and angst.
Plots: I enjoy scenarios like a married couple balancing fame and busy schedules, and I’m open to similar themes. No sci-fi or fantasy ideas, please.
Writing Style: I expect to mirror each other's replies length as needed in the roleplay. I will not respond to 3-4 lines. Adaptability is key—short for dialogue, longer for other scenes. Be prepared to play multiple characters, with your main character always prominent.
Writing Expectations: I write in the third person but am flexible. I prefer partners who can reply more than twice a day and use proper grammar (this is seriously a must). I boast about not being a stickler but deep inside, I know I am. I'm bothered by the smallest of spelling errors and punctuation errors. Sorry, but that's just how my brain works!
Communication: Use Discord or Chatzy. I prefer a partner who can reply more than twice a day. Communication is crucial—let me know if you’ll be busy. Don't bother if you're going to ghost me. Seriously. Leave me the eff alone. I am tired of it. I've started some really good roleplays in the past and had to end them because I got ghosted. So I expect you to let me know when you're busy so I'm not just waiting around. Within a week of no response, I will check in twice. After a week of no response, I will automatically assume the roleplay is over and move on.
Involvement: Contribute equally to advancing the plot. I’m open-minded and can adapt to various storylines. I will NOT keep pushing it forward. Be bold, please.
OOC: I’d like a friendly partner to discuss likes and dislikes but of course not to the point that OOC is all we ever do. No pictures, videos, or audio, and please ensure your significant other is aware of your roleplaying if you’re in a relationship. I don't want angry girlfriends in my PMs. Seriously, I do not.
Plot Ideas: I have a few but I'm open to creating something new or modifying these. If none of these appeal to you, please include in your message what you want to roleplay.
  1. Girlfriend Inc.
  2. Famous couple.
  3. Illegal MMA fighting.
If interested, send a chat request with more than a hello. Share your favorite color so I know you read my essay, what you liked, and what you're looking for to help me respond better. I have been seeking a decent roleplay partner for a while now so I have a good sense of what I like and dislike. While I don't ask for a writing sample, I do expect that my partner shares a similar passion for writing and creating a roleplay. I'm exhausted of bad actors so I will probably come off very curt and defensive but I promise to warm up if things work out (deep down I'm a baby)! Hope to hear from you!

2024.05.28 00:21 Key_Resident5935 Portmaster on ARC on ROCKNIX

So I've got Portmaster up and running on my RG ARC D using the latest ROCKNIX cfw.
The first thing I wanted to try was Shredders Revenge, and I got Portmaster installed, got the port installed through Portmaster just fine, added my game files, waited a long time for the install, install finishes and the game plays.
But the only problem I'm having is that the game is staying in 16:9 on my ARCs 4:3 screen
I've seen videos and images of Shredders Revenge running on Portmaster on 4:3 devices and its running in 4:3.
When I go into the graphics options, the resolution is set for 640x480, borderless fullscreen
I cant change the resolution, but I can change the full screen to Exculsive Fullscreen or Windowed.
Neither one gives me the full 4:3 screen
Andy advice?

2024.05.28 00:20 OldFisherman8 My Journey through SD and what I have learned from it

My Journey through SD and what I have learned from it
I started my journey with SD 1.4 and Easy Diffusion. At that time, I had no idea what Machine Learning was. Since then, my journey has taken many twists and turns and I have acquired some knowledge in this new area.
From the beginning, I wasn't interested in creating random images or portraits since I normally created images (3D renders) that went with a story. And that required not only consistent characters but also consistent props, costumes, and environment. To be honest, it was a hard struggle. So much so that I ended up reading a few dozen research papers and looking through the math involved in the hopes of figuring out how a diffusion model worked. It helped but not by much. So my struggle continued.
In the process, I have learned several things. The first one was that the problems with AI are not the problems on the part of AI. Rather it is largely from the shortcomings of humans. For example, 2D images whether static or moving, are 2D representations of 3D space. Due to this, any artist or photographer will always start from the perspective and composition. Then the next focus is the lighting. Then finally the details. What I have noticed about SD is that it is trained on the exact reverse priority, focusing primarily on filling out details.
Even so, it is clear that image diffusion AIs like SD have the full capacity to learn and understand the proper 3D information even when it was never taught such crucial parameters. For example, I was amazed by the ability of SD to understand the embedded lighting information and keep it consistent although a large portion of SD-generated images have screwed-up lighting in them. However, it is primarily the SD users who input all the contradictory lighting terms to make the final output with creepy and unnatural lighting. This is also the reason AI-generated images should never be used for training.
In my journey, I have experimented with various ways of generating images from 3D blocking to inpainting to simulate a proper way of translating 3D space onto a 2D plane.
https://preview.redd.it/m2cpmisyl13d1.jpg?width=2919&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9db38b2fe481d6e3a80cfbf173a671812a84b242
https://preview.redd.it/o8qz6i01m13d1.jpg?width=1990&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5833d4608eb9b97873f960a577da1cfa9bf5d77
But in the process, it became painfully clear that the scene needs to be broken down into layers based on depth to do this properly. But, keeping the same lighting on all the layers became a significant hurdle. I first generated the background or the farthest depth layer. Then use it as an IBL (HDRI) lighting onto the foreground 3D renders to bake the same lighting. Then convert the renders into AI generations.
It was time-consuming and wasn't quite the solution I was hoping for. So, I experimented with using SD-generated layers directly. But the lighting issue continued to be a problem.
https://preview.redd.it/aem1ahb7m13d1.png?width=2864&format=png&auto=webp&s=855ab2651ddfb359216b108043586a00faddcb85
The above case was an exception since it represented two separate surroundings (one outside the crystal ball and one inside). As a result, the difference in the baked lighting didn't pose a problem. In the end, I had to admit the fact that there isn't a proper tool available to get this done. Once again, SD isn't the problem as it is capable of processing all the lighting data only if that data can be somehow parametrized. How do I know? Here is how.
https://preview.redd.it/0wmcrf0am13d1.jpg?width=4300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06a4e4d9f50360bafbed0ea87c1729c299c2b79d
I am now back to the full 3D renders and use all the environment and props as is but only stylize the characters by inpainting. Each character was rendered separately. In this way, I can reduce the possible prompt complication of having more than two characters in the scene. But this also means that each character was generated separately. However, each generation had the same lighting and seamlessly composited into the overall composition.
https://preview.redd.it/ui1kca7cm13d1.jpg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2f8fab83f847f37ae037b6ba8506df326ab3fa2
And this is not a small feat since the lighting baked in the scene is quite complex. The HDRI lighting provides the overall ambient lighting but the primary direction comes from outside the window, simulating the light seeping through the blinders. Then the interior lighting was done through key and fill lights. In addition, the mesh light is used to simulate the fluorescent ceiling light. Then finally the spotlight on the medical lighting equipment.
Of course, there are limitations. For example, in a situation like this, I would have added texture light to the skin texture to simulate more pronounced light reflection and deeper light refraction under the skin. However, I also know that such nuanced data will be lost when generated. So, I didn't bother.
In the end, SD is as good as it can be when it comes to filling out details. However, there is also a huge untapped potential waiting to be unlocked. I am planning to explore that potential so that SD can truly shine in its full capacity from the perspective, composition, and lighting to all the details. Cheers!

2024.05.28 00:18 Your_Doctor18 Thoughts On Spore 2

Spore 2
Cell Stage
Start: Begin as a single cell and absorb other cells smaller or of equal size.
you can absorb cells smaller than you.
if you come across another cell similar in size then you both must fight for control of who will absorb who.
can be absorbed by larger cells.
Once you get to a certain size then you will evolve a mouth and a tail and must choose whether your creature will be carnivorous or herbivorous, from here the cell stage will play similar to how it was in the original spore.
Aquatic Stage
This stage will have you playing as a Sea creature similar to the creature stage but you evolve to be a proficient Apex of the Sea, following the currents and finding your hunting/feeding grounds to survive. but when you are ready to evolve you can choose two different paths, either to evolve to move onto land or evolve to remain in the sea.
Creature Stage
Like in the original Spore, you will move onto land, find new parts to evolve hunt/eat plants to survive. move with your herd of creatures across the continent and make new friends or meet new enemies. and avoid or kill already evolving sentient beings.
Aquatic/Tribal Stage
Both Tribal stages of the sea and land will play similarly except one will obviously be in the Water.
You will begin by roaming the Continent/Ocean as a nomadic tribe and using your chieftain to choose a place to settle, gathering food and resources on the way. once you have chosen a place to settle you will begin your tribal journey.
Gathering food and basic resources building your village up to become the strongest.
Other Villages will soon appear and you will have several options. you can send a tribe member to introduce yourself and either ally or destroy them. or remain unknown and wait for them to find you.
you can set up alliances or trade with other villages you are friendly with and other villages will make their own alliances and trade.
The trading system will consist of 2 main items, building materials for constructing buildings in your village. and food to survive. you can exchange different types of food for each other.. i.e. fruit for fish or exchange materials for food and vice versa.
if you have an alliance with another tribe you can offer to merge your villages into one tribe and you will gain control of their village as well as your own. increasing your power and control in the region although this process is very expensive for this stage of the game.
Once you have achieved 80% dominance over the ocean or continent you will progress to the civilization stage.
Aquatic/Civilization Stage
Both will play Similarly to each other, with the exception of that if you started the Civilization stage in the Ocean then you will have to fight one or two other Civilizations that have also emerged in the Ocean and then progress to the Surface to Unify the planet.
Unlike in the original spore cities will be 2-3x the size.
unlike the tribal stage, your city will be placed where your tribal village was settled. However, if you own more than one tribal village then you can choose where to start the civilization stage.
The rest of the villages can be uplifted into cities if you have the money and materials to do so. assuming another upcoming nation doesn't beat you to it. other smaller cities can exist within the same region, however they will be smaller.
the same mechanics in the civilization stage will be present from the tribal stage. in trading and alliances.
In this stage, Food, Energy/Power and building materials are still a requirement. thus your cities will Automatically gather food and materials in their region and produce their own power, New buildings will be added to accommodate the need for materials/energy and food generation.
if a city does not have enough of a single resource to support its population then you can set up trade routes to send x amount of an item to another city you own.
If you have started the Civilization stage in the Ocean then you will have to also attack and unify the surface. The CIvilization stage will progress until you have unified the Planet.
Space Stage
This stage will be slow but rewarding with patience.
The Galaxy will have 5 Tiers of Planets and with each tier the planet will get progressively bigger, and thus will be able to have more cities on those planets as a result, thus producing more spice faster than the rest. with T1 planets being the most common and T5 being the most rare. however, T1 planets only have a single tier to terraform whereas a T5 planet will have a 5 terraform score to be able to build more cities.
All Spice production will be slow but the cost will be higher than in vanilla spore.
terraforming will now be a very expensive mid-game endeavor, so finding already terraformed planets early on will be your best bet.
The red, Green, and Blue zones for planets now play a more significant role in terraforming. if a planet is in a Blue zone then the planet is too cold, while it is possible to terraform the planet buildings will be required to keep the atmosphere dense and to keep the planet warm. and the opposite is the same for planets in the Red zone. they are too how and must decrease the atmosphere and cool the planet off and buildings are required to keep these changes to keep the planet's T-score stable.
The higher the planet's T-score or, the Bigger the planet is, then the harder the planet will be to terraform and stabilize and keep the current T-score.
Building Colonies will be difficult as other mechanics will be introduced. you can still set up colonies the same way as in the original spore but the cost of buying them will be expensive.
Colonies now require food, Power, and Resources to build and maintain themselves.
Colonies start with a minimum amount of starting Food, Construction materials, and Energy.
you can achieve this in a couple of ways. the first being the Easiest but most costly, would be to send resources from a system you already own, i.e. your homeworld. and ship resources, food, and power to the colony until it can support itself.
the other is spending a few extra sporebucks building key infrastructure in your colony to support itself so the city can harvest resources and produce food and power from the region it's in. This process takes longer and your citizens will be unhappy for a time, but will be significantly cheaper for you in the long run.
Other space civilizations will grow on their own, expand their empire, terraform planets make trade routes and alliances, and even start wars.
a new trade system will be introduced in the space stage where you can trade Food, Energy also called power. and Construction materials. that you can trade with other civilizations for either sporebucks or a barter.. i.e. trading food for energy. and of course the standard spice trading as well.
like in the original spore, there are different tiers of spice. however, in this new system, all the different tiers of spice will have varying qualities from unrefined to refined and Exquisite all with different prices when trading.
The Grox will not expand past the center of the galaxy, however, they will attack civilizations they deem too powerful and will cut them down to size or destroy them completely.
if you meet Steve without allying with the Grox they will declare war on you, if you ally the Grox and meet Steve at the center of the galaxy they will demand the staff of life. if you turn it over to them they will give you their own staff of un life which will reduce a planet to t0 killing all life but will allow you to settle cities as if the planet was max terra score. and build on it as such. if you decline to hand over the staff then they declare war on you.
If you have allied with the Grox and they deem you powerful enough they will give you a mission to go and kill Steve. if you kill Steve (an almost impossible fight) then the Grox will reward you with the staff of Un-Life. and their systems now act like your own.
just like in the original game, however, allying the Grox will cause the entire galaxy to declare war on you.
you can lose the systems you have claimed through war or trade, including your homeworld. if you lose all of your star systems you will have the opportunity to reclaim your homeworld but if you fail then the space stage restarts.

2024.05.28 00:18 OooohMylanta The House of Je Ne Sais Quoi : Chapter Eight

The House of Je Ne Sais Quoi : Chapter Eight
Chapter Eight
A group of unwashed hippies stares up into the sky above Venice Beach as a shiny, pink ball of energy comes plunging down into the nearby ocean. They would be shocked and excited and filming things with their iPhones except for they’re hippies and don’t have iPhones because they are sticking it to the man. Also they’re not particularly surprised because weird shit falls from the sky over Venice Beach all the time, usually birds or maybe like errant roller skates or even a tofurkey or two, who knows? It IS Venice Beach after all. They were hoping for a tofurkey anyway because they have mad munchies and the shiny pink energy ball thing looks like a bad case of indigestion waiting to happen.
Inside the pink energy ball, which is actually a spaceship, Blush and Bryanbot are hugging each other in congratulations, glad they survived their unexpected crash landing. If they had died on impact, there would be no one left to stop Captain Fanny and Jenna from summoning The Supreme, and then all sorts of bad things would happen – worse things than even Whitney or Lisa could conceive. So, you know it’s BAD because the two of those game hosts were LITERALLY THE WORST.
Blush : We did it! We made it! We might just save the whole world yet and the souls of everyone in it!
Bryanbot : Well, we are on Venice Beach. I don’t know that we’ll be saving any souls tbh.
Blush : While you bring up a good point, our job is to keep things hopeful and positive.
Bryanbot : I’m sorry. Seawater got in my pantaloons during the crash landing and short circuited my eternal optimism drive.
Blush : WHAT???? I can’t keep this up for the both of us! Maybe if we landed in San Diego or somewhere, but not on Venice Beach!
Bryanbot : We’ll just have to figure out how to fix it before we attempt to locate Captain Fanny. Hey, there’s a pawn shop over there! I bet they have the necessary components to repair an android’s eternal optimism drive.
Blush : Yes! People are always pawning those components as they are both plentiful and lucrative! Like a celebrity’s old underpants!
Bryanbot : OK, let’s go in there. Then let’s SAVE THE WORLD.
*************************************
Back in the theater room of The Production House of Je Ne Sais Quoi, Captain Fanny is doing some yoga stretches to try and move Echo along through her digestive system. If you’ll remember, Captain Fanny swallowed Echo whole like a python, but Captain Fanny is not a python, she is an alien, and now she’s having a hell of a time trying to digest an entire person at once.
Captain Fanny : Ughhhhhh Tobias!!!
Tobias : Yes, My Distended Queen?
Captain Fanny : This is very uncomfortable!
Tobias : What can I do for you??? Shall I just cut a little hole in your stomach and pull her out?
Captain Fanny : No you fool! I’ll expel stomach acid all over the place and then Jenna will be irritated at the cleaning bill! Come over here and massage this model through my system.
Tobias runs down from the production room, nearly tripping over the long strings of his frayed denim shorts.
Captain Fanny : Wait!! Put the next movie on first!!
Tobias runs back up to the production room to queue up the next film.
Captain Fanny : Come back down here now!!!
Tobias runs back down from the production room, definitely tripping over the long strings of his frayed denim shorts. Cradling what is clearly a broken arm, he stumbles up to Fanny, who is lying face up on the floor, and reaches towards her bulging abdomen.
Captain Fanny : Wait! Don’t touch me! I swore a solemn oath that I would never allow a Nevernude to lay hands on me. Go get me a snack instead! Maybe if I eat more, the new food will push the old food down and the problem will solve itself.
Tobias : I don’t think that’s how it works…
Captain Fanny : I’m not paying you to think! I’m actually not paying you at all but whatever. NOW GET ME NACHOS AND START THE MOVIE!!!
*****************************************
The eight remaining models awaken yet again to strange surroundings. Perhaps expecting the beach for the third time in a row, they are shocked to discover themselves in a room full of mirrors this time, with barres placed throughout and gentle music playing over unseen speakers.
Dazed, the women stare around the room, taking stock of their new situation. There are a variety of doors and windows throughout the space, and a group of dancers is practicing what looks to be ballet in one of the corners. A woman with a riding crop calls out, “One, two, THREE, one, two, THREE,” as the dancers work through their exercises.
Sarin : This place is giving me the creeps you guys. I want to get meowt of here!
Sarin starts licking herself compulsively, which is a thing that cats do when they’re nervous or bored or hungry or feeling better than everyone else. In this case, Sarin is nervous.
Beta : I know what you mean. I need a drink.
Beta pulls her ever present flask from her pocket only to discover it’s EMPTY!!!
Beta : Oh my GOD noooooooo!!!!!!!! My flask must have spilled from our flight away from the birds! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!
Beta turns to Egg and starts choking her. Nayiem slaps Beta’s hands away, and then Duchess slaps Beta in the face for good measure.
Nayiem : Forget about it like I forget about everything! We need to figure out where we are and how to get out of here.
Duchess : Well I can tell you based on my privileged rich girl upbringing exactly where we are. This is a dance studio.
Serafina : Thank you Captain Obvious.
Duchess : DON’T CALL ME CAPTAIN I AM A DUCHESS!!!
Wanda Sue : You are all SO irritating. I didn’t realize that part of being an All Star was going to be listening to constant arguing and name calling from what is supposedly a group of grown ass adults.
Geramima : Oh that’s pretty much the whole game. Haven’t you played this before?
Wanda Sue : I have, and I haven’t. It’s complicated.
Geramima : Basically it’s everyone ganging up on someone until they die and then turning around and doing it to the next person.
Wanda Sue : That sounds like a bad strategy.
Geramima : Yeah, well, no one said they really thought it out. Me, I like to keep to myself and…
Thankfully, before Geramima could go on more about herself, the dance instructor with the riding crop slaps it hard into her hand and the models realize they have been spotted. The music in the room stops, and the dancers begin to chant in a foreign language, eerie and unsettling, led by their instructor who now points the crop directly at the All Stars.
Serafina : I have a really bad feeling about this.
Sarin licks her parts with an even greater fervor.
As the chanting of the dancers rises, the models feel the hairs along the backs of their necks stand up, and an electricity starts to crackle throughout the room. One of the mirrors breaks suddenly, sending shards of glass explosively outward towards the group of women.
Egg : RUN!!!
As more mirrors start breaking and the chanting gets louder, the models scramble off towards the various doors and windows throughout the practice room, panicked yet again as they find themselves trapped in another of what seems like an endless stream of torturous horror shows.
Serafina, Beta and Duchess burst through the nearest door, and Serafina slams it shut before anyone else can clamber through.
Serafina : I think we chose the right room!
Beta : Um…don’t speak so soon…
Duchess screams in terror as a coiled mass of snakes curls its way around the floor. The snakes start intertwining around each other, climbing up each of the models’ legs, hissing and choking, fangs exposed.
Serafina looks around in a mad panic, finds a wooden chair, and breaks it into pieces. She snatches the empty flask from Beta’s trembling hand and tips out the last few drops of liquor onto the end of a chair leg.
Serafina : Duchess! Toss me a packet of curry!
Without thinking, Duchess throws a packet of Sonic Curry towards Serafina, who nimbly catches it from the air. She’s running low on curry now, but there’s no time to worry about that.
Knowing that Sonic Curry is both nutritious and inexplicably can also start fires, Serafina opens the packet onto the alcohol dipped wooden chair leg and watches as the leg combusts into flames. Waving it at the snakes, they fall from her and clear a pathway to a door that says, conveniently, EXIT.
She reaches the door and throws the torch back towards Beta and Duchess who begin to struggle over it. Beta snatches it up first, but at the last second, Duchess wrenches it from her hands and escapes after Serafina. Not to be left behind, Beta steels herself and runs headlong, tripping over snakes, just passing through the exit as the jaws of a vicious rattler attempt to close on her ankle.
Back in the dance practice room, glass continues to explode over the rest of the models, who are now in full panic, cut and bleeding. A loud shatter splits the remaining five models into two groups as they launch themselves to opposite sides of the room in an attempt to avoid the shards.
Three of the models are near another door, and they quickly pass through it, shutting it tightly behind them. Egg, Sarin and Nayiem attempt to catch their breath, but before they can even think, they realize the walls around them are closing in on all sides.
Sarin : I feel like Schrodinger’s cat! Trapped in a box! Maybe dead!
Nayiem : Don’t panic. That’s just what they want us to do. Let’s use our heads here.
Egg : Oh come off it! I’m a bird. She’s a cat. You have no memory. We’re like the worst three people here to try and come up with an intelligent plan!
Nayiem : Ok then let’s just use cheap exploits!
Sarin : Good idea!
Sarin looks up at the ceiling and notices a partially open skylight. She uses her catlike abilities to jump directly up, which is a thing cats can do, you can look that up, and launches herself out of the room.
Egg : I guess I’ll just fly out of here again.
Nayiem : Are you going to do that every time?
Egg : Well it would take an awfully long time to think of other ways to escape, and that seems like a whole thing.
Nayiem : That makes sense.
So Egg flies out. Then Nayiem unfurls her giant hat and throws it up through the skylight, climbing up and out just as the walls crush in on each other in the room below.
Back in the dance studio, only two models remain – Geramima and Wanda Sue.
Wanda Sue : Ughhh just as I find my voice in this competition I’m stuck here again!
Geramima : Alas! Even the wolf in me can’t find a way out of this…wait a second. Look! There’s an open window up there on the wall!
Wanda Sue : I don’t know about that – it looks fishy.
Geramima : I love fish! That’s my second favorite food after raw any other kind of animal. Because I am a wolf.
Glass explodes directly into their faces, cutting them deeply, and the chanting dancers turn toward them and begin to advance. Left with no other choice, Wanda and Geramima run towards the open window. Wanda boosts Geramima up to the ledge, then Geramima reaches her hand down towards Wanda to help her up. Too distracted by helping Wanda to notice what’s through the window, Geramima drops down into the next room and lands barefoot on an endless landscape of more broken glass. She drops to her knees in pain and crawls, howling, attempting to escape, but the dancers from the practice room are now entering into this annex, hands lifted and chanting more furiously than ever. They circle around Geramima and lift her up over their heads. Wanda screams in terror as the dancers carry Geramima off, and she could almost swear she sees Geramima’s soul separate from her body, wailing in agony, as Geramima is certain to be sacrificed to this apparent coven’s heartless goddess…

I wish I could be clearer with the below, but I just found out the timetable has been expedited. This post might seem very polished. That's probably because I began drafting it two weeks ago.
I also wish I could have reviewed more posts to get the "feel," but I don't think I can.
My wife and I have been married for more than thirty years. We have been through an awful lot of horrible things, but have come out the other side. Our history began in the early ’90s when we were in college. The way we met was quite unconventional for the time. She attended a university about 250 miles away from the one I was going to. We were more like electronic pen-pals on the fledgling internet of the day. I was working on a US government-funded research project involving computer networks, which is part of how we were able to keep “connected” that way. I was a senior, and she was a freshman. We fell in love. Hard. We knew we were a solid match even before we met each other face to face six months later. Our first meet-up happened only two weeks before I graduated. We met again the weekend before my commencement. After graduation, I moved more than five hundred miles farther away from her college town. We were able to get together only three or four more times before I proposed to her during the fall semester of her sophomore year. I flew to the city nearest her college and dropped to my knee in the middle of the airport's concourse. We were married the following summer.
Life was awesome. I had my dream girl, the one I’d prayed to find for years. Financially, we were incredibly blessed. We were able to pay off my wife’s student loans, lived frugally, and saved money hand over fist. Because of all that, we were able to move out of our single bedroom ~800 sq. ft. apartment into a newly built 2,200 sq. ft. house before our second anniversary. Gen-Y and Z’ers: Don’t judge. Please. Us X’ers do understand your plight caused by massive inflation. We knew from conversations we’d had before I proposed that two children was our ideal. By our third anniversary, things were still going great, and we decided we were ready to start our family. She surprised me when I got home from work one night when she handed me a pregnancy test showing a positive. I was so happy! Then “Round 1” happened. My wife of barely four years was taking night classes to complete her bachelor’s. She’d earned her associates the year before. She was in class when I received a call from her younger sister, age 13. What she told me was devastating: their father had been killed in a wreck on the highway on his way home from work. Cell phones weren’t exactly affordable back then, so I had to wait until my wife came home two hours later to tell her what had happened. Her father’s injuries were so severe that the funeral had to be closed casket. My wife stayed at her former home for a few weeks to try to help her mom and her three other siblings find some kind of normalcy. Then came “Round 2.” Barely two weeks after my wife returned home, our phone rang in the middle of the night. To this day, I still remember the clock reading 2:03 AM. I answered and heard a voice I didn’t recognize. It was one of my wife’s aunts calling to inform us that my MIL had been found dead in their house with an empty prescription vial of Valium sitting next to her. My wife's siblings had been with other relatives, so at least they hadn’t witnessed her suicide in person. As we drove to her hometown for the second time in a month, my wife decided in no uncertain terms that we were going to bring her siblings home with us. She had not one ounce of trust that anyone else in her extended family would step up to take care of them because most of them were below the poverty line and could barely provide for their own families. The following week, we brought her siblings, aged 13, 8, and 4 back home with us. We’d gone from being carefree young marrieds of less than four years to suddenly being the legal guardians to her siblings while also dealing with the legal hurdles of settling an intestate estate. My wife miscarried at the end of her first trimester. That loss devastated us as much if not more than we’d already endured. We got the kids (and ourselves) into grief and trauma support groups which were certainly beneficial. But we also knew our plans to have our own biological kids had to be canceled, or at least indefinitely delayed. A few years into the new adventure, my wife and I agreed she could quit her job and be a stay-at-home “mom.” Years passed, my eldest SIL graduated high school, and went on to quickly get a certificate in a health-care field. Barely a few months after my SIL moved out, my wife again surprised me with the news she’d tested positive for pregnancy. To abbreviate the history, but not to understate it, our first baby came healthy, graduated with an IB diploma, and is now a junior in college, ready to tackle the world when she graduates. Back to my SIL back then. She was able to find immediate employment in her field, with competitive pay, but within a year, got pregnant. She was unwed, and the father bolted. Over the following seven years, she had two more kids by other men who also bolted, leaving her as a single mother of three with no child support. The state appears to not give a crap because it's done nothing. She’s been unable to hold steady employment and has been on welfare the majority of the time. I can’t remember the number of times we’ve paid her rent to avoid her family being evicted. Granted, it wasn’t a bank-breaking amount because she’s in Section Eight housing, but still. The middle of the other B/SILs began developing mental illness in high school. No one (meaning us, teachers, etc.) recognized it at the time, but it became obvious in hindsight after things which transpired later. He became incredibly rebellious at home, and decided during his senior year to leave our home and live with a friend. Thankfully, he decided to enlist in the military after graduating HS. When he returned from basic training, we saw a changed man. He’d become incredibly respectful to the adults he’d before rebelled against (especially us) and was incredibly disciplined and orderly in the construction job he took after his service ended. Things were looking good for him. Apparently, he also looked good to a girl he’d met in high school. They got married while he was still active and had two kids of their own before she went bat-shit crazy. She served him with divorce papers, and, no surprise, was given primary custody of their children because family courts in most US states are insanely biased to the mothers. Right before the divorce decree was finalized, she went on a rampage in their co-owned house and caused about $40K in damages. Despite all of this, my BIL had the fortitude to earn a bachelor’s degree. He graduated summa cum laude at a major state university and found a fantastic job with one of the most recognizable construction equipment companies in the metro area. If you live in the same area, you’d see their trucks everywhere. That’s how big they are. He reported to the Chief of Operations and was changing the shape of that business in good ways. “Round 3.” He began to spiral into and was clinically diagnosed with bipolar disorder after he went to a shopping center in a seedy part of town, stark naked, waving a pistol around. Thankfully, the responding police officer recognized that his behavior was abnormal and was likely suffering a mental crisis. He and the other responding units were able to get him under control with no lasting harm. My BIL was institutionalized at the VA hospital for almost a month while they titrated his medications. Things were “normal” for about a year until his ex decided to sue him for increased child support and sole custody of their kids. He rightfully fought it, but he went off his meds and began another spiral that cost him his well-paying job. His attorney told him he was going to stop representing him because of how far behind he was on payments (almost $15K). Because we didn’t want him to lose his family, we paid the bill, plus another $10K retainer, knowing we’d not likely ever see the money again (It’s been five years now and we haven’t seen a penny, but it worked. He still has joint custody). Then, he married another woman with three kids of her own who turned out to be just as heartless and crazy as his ex. He started spiraling once again, and instead of helping him, she called the cops on him, took her kids, abandoned his children, and demanded us to come and “deal with his kids.” My wife was dealing with him at his house, alone, because I was in charge of their children at our house. Her youngest brother, then about 25, insisted he go with her to the hospital. Thank GOD, because, on the way there, the older BIL opened the door of the car and tried to exit it on the interstate at 60+ miles per hour. If his younger brother hadn’t been in the back seat, my wife would likely have been the witness to a successful suicide. You can imagine the hysteria in the voice I heard when she called me afterward. The trauma and anxiety of dealing with that drama weighed heavily on all of us, including our children, and still does to this day. “Round 4.” The eldest SIL became pregnant again, but this time, the father didn’t bolt. Their baby came right before Thanksgiving ‘23 but was kept in the hospital until last month because of medical problems. The doctors decided the baby needed a tracheotomy because of a defect in her larynx. My wife attended training classes with her sister which taught them how to change the trach tube, which will have to be done every week for three years. The baby requires constant attention because she can’t audibly cry. Her mom and the father are exhausted, of course, and their own children are also exposed to this and probably feel some abandonment as a result. Fast forward to two weeks ago. The baby had a seizure and stopped breathing. EMTs were called. The mother and father performed CPR for almost a half hour before an ambulance showed up. She was kept in the NICU overnight but was discharged the next morning as they couldn’t find a “root cause” other than a “minor infection.” Last week, CPS showed up at their door. They took the baby back to the hospital and the other siblings to separate foster homes. From what we’ve been told so far, the baby’s urine was collected during the NICU visit and later tested positive for drugs (I don’t know what kind), and they believe one of the parents is to blame. My wife decided that we’d get a foster house check by CPS and take in her sister’s children, including the baby when she’s cleared to leave the hospital. This is a baby that requires 24-hour observation. As fosters, we “might” qualify for a home nurse. Sounds great, but that means we’d have a total stranger basically living in our house in room we don’t have. My SIL’s initial court hearing isn’t for another month. I’m at my wits end. I’ve given the last thirty years of my life basically supporting my wife’s family. My gut knows that I could have otherwise provided more to my own kids if not. My childresn are going to be exposed to the chaos. For a year or two after my wife decided to bring her siblings into our home and delay our own family, I seriously considered a divorce. We didn’t have a lot of community property to split, none of our own children to impact, whatever, but I held to the vows we gave each other. I’ve come to that same point now. I’m only a few years away from retirement. If I agree to my wife’s terms, it’ll possibly lead to resentment just as it did after Round 2. If I don’t agree to my wife’s terms, I know she’ll resent me. I just found out that CPS is coming next week, and we might have SIL’s kids all summer. I don’t know if I can do it again and maintain my sanity. What should I do?

2024.05.28 00:15 Ok-Ingenuity9833 Terrifier series pitch: The Artoon Club

Terrifier series pitch: The Artoon Club

The Artoon Club would be an in-universe prequel mini-series about an old Saturday Morning kids Show in the Terrifier universe, featuring Art the Clown as the main character! It'd be portrayed as a seemingly innocent sunny and colorful eye candy show reminiscent of Sesame Street or Blues Clues, with some heavy inspiration from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.
Plot: Initially it'd just be an innocent children's screening with delightful adventures and catchy songs at the Clown Cafe with the fan favorite character Art the Clown! There'd be a live action Art the Clown played by David Howard Thornton and a 2D animated Art known as "Toon Art" who is just the brands wholesome envisionment of Art the Clown, then the TV Show would have a mysterious villain with few brief appearances known as the "Man in Red" and he'd be dressed in a vintage devil costume with a velvet robe.

2024.05.28 00:14 softstarlite New Adult Book Recs? <3

Hi everyone :)
I just turned 26 and while I grew up loving YA books, it's starting to feel like something I've grown out of and I just don't want to always be reading the POV of a 16/17 year old anymore. That being said, I still love YA, but I think I need to branch out more into something a little older where I feel more aligned with the characters and their experiences/feelings.
Also, the New Adult genre still feels pretty new to me, I find it harder to find books with more mature characters that are within the 20something range that still have that YA book vibe with romance, sci-fi, fantasy, dystopia, etc (especially bc there is no section for them in most bookstores around me). If anyone has any recommendations please let me know!
Ps. I recently read Defy the Night and I know Tessa was 18 and Corrick was 20 and even that was SO good! So even early twenties recs totally work for me bc omg I loved that series (waiting on Libby for the 3rd in the trilogy now hahaha)
