2024.05.19 14:02 Status-Holiday1590 Parents of teenagers please advise

My family had a devastating loss on Mother’s Day. A cousin of mine tragically passed, so our entire family has been making their way to Florida to be together. I originally planned to fly down with my preschooler, my sister, and her infant. My 17 year old relative let me know that his mother won’t be going and if he can stay with us while he’s there. We have an extra bedroom, so I said sure. I’m starting to think I made a mistake.
He seems to he treating this more like a vacation than what it really is, gathering with family to grieve. I understand that since he is 10-15 years younger than us, he didn’t grow up with and know the deceased like the rest of us but it’s starting to feel really insensitive. He let me know that he has a list of activities he wants to do and if I can plan some fun stuff for us to do.
I let him know that the place we’re staying is a resort with a pool, small waterpark, game room, etc. I only booked it because the condo came with a bunch of toys/baby supplies for our convenience with the small kids. He is more than welcome to explore the rest of the resort, but I am not treating this like a vacation. I am grieving and who knows how any of us will be feeling once we get there. We may not be up to doing all these activities and to understand that, so I can not guarantee we will go shopping and top golf the beach and whatever else is on his list. He’s upset and already complaining that he doesn’t want to sit around bored.
I don’t have a lot of experience with teens besides once being one myself. Does anyone have any advice on how I should handle this?

2024.05.19 10:10 Public_Lifeguard7942 Turning a brief outdoors cat into an indoor cat

Hi all.
So unfortunately we ended up in a bad situation whereas my mum received a section 21 letter because the landlord wants to sell the house.
Due to her disabilities we went down the council route, mum was band A, she was preliminary offered a property. However the council messed up big time and pulled it out from under her feet.
A council lhoysing eader overturned all decisions medical evidence of my mum’s disabilities including hospital reports and took away all bandings. Were the process of appealing this but we’ve decided to go elsewhere. The appeal is more about disability rights.
Having witnessed things about the local council I believe they have seriously breached a duty of care.
Anyway We have had to secure alternative accommodation in an housing association. The place mum will be moving to is an over 55s facility. Its nice.
Whilst it does allow small pets, cats have to remain indoors and are not allowed in communal areas. My mum will also be on the second floor.
My mums cat is everything to her, and she cannot give him up. He has really helped get some of her life back after my dad died.
Unfortunately there is no one to take him in. I can’t because I live in a shared place. I’m not taking him to a rescue because they would just turn him a way. (I know the bleak outlook for him in my area).
He is mostly an indoor cat anyway, and is extremely clean. (Better than most humans.) He won’t go out at night and he only wants to be asleep on my mum. He cries to go to bed and will keep at it until my mum gives in. He goes out for about 5 minutes a day realises he hates it and comes back in again.
The accommodation is temporary because it’s not the best but we are working with other housing providers. Stuff is in the pipeline but it will take a few months. This option was a last resort on the back of the council screwing us over.
I’m just wondering if there are anyways to make the transition smoother. There is a communal garden I don’t know what their rules are, put if mum could put him on a cat leash or something and just sit with him. Or if we could do anything to the apartment.
It’s a completely open space aside from a few cupboards which benefits from the sun. We’re thinking of getting him one of those cat play areas from pets at home too.

As an avid fan of fairy tales and luxurious bedding, I couldn't resist trying out the Joyreap 4 Corners Post Canopy Bed Curtain. Let me tell you, it's like sleeping in a royal castle every night! .
The mosquito netting is not only beautiful but also functional, keeping the pesky bugs away. However, the varying computer monitor colors and allowing a slight size difference might be a con for some.
But overall, it's a charming addition to my bed setting that transports me to a world of magic and comfort.

I recently purchased the Heidi Galaxy Star Bed Canopy to provide a touch of coziness and privacy for my little one's bunk bed. The vibrant blackout cloth, adorned with stars, immediately added a whimsical touch to their sleeping space. The detailed installation instructions were a lifesaver, making it incredibly easy to set up. I particularly appreciated the option to buy single cloths for shading the front or back of the bunk bed, or multiple cloths for shading all sides. The result? A quiet, comfortable, and beautifully decorated sleeping space that's the perfect retreat for my child.
The Heidi Galaxy Star Bed Canopy certainly delivers on its shading promises, effectively blacking out the room and ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. Privacy is another major plus - my child feels much more secure and comfortable with the added protection the canopy provides. Moreover, the canopy is versatile enough to be used in various settings, from work desks to TV rooms, making it a valuable addition to any space.
One potential drawback is that, despite its many positives, the Heidi Galaxy Star Bed Canopy is not particularly easy to clean. Hand washing is recommended, which can be time-consuming and cumbersome, especially for busy parents. Additionally, the cloth material is quite delicate, meaning it's essential to handle it with care to prevent any damage.
In conclusion, the Heidi Galaxy Star Bed Canopy is a stunning addition to any room, offering the perfect combination of style, comfort, and privacy. While its cleanliness and durability might require a bit more effort, the overall benefits make this product a worthwhile investment.

I recently got the EighteenTek Bed Tent, and I'm in love with it! . The blackout feature is superb; I get a much more restful sleep now. The tent's dual-door design makes it incredibly convenient to hop in and out.
I also appreciate the mesh vent on top for circulation, because fresh air is a must for me. The fiberglass poles are super lightweight and durable; setting this up has been a total breeze.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this bed tent if you're looking to create a private space indoors or outdoors. The only downside I can think of is that it can be a bit challenging to find bed skirts that perfectly fit the Velcro attachments, but other than that, it's a fantastic addition to my sleeping setup! .

Creating a cozy and enchanting atmosphere in your bedroom has just become easier with the Warm Home Designs Bed Canopy Curtains Fabric. As a proud user of this luxurious fabric, I can personally attest to its ability to transform my sleep space into a magical retreat. The sheer elegance of the silver color perfectly complements my existing decor, while the durable polyester fabric ensures it withstands even the most rigorous of washes and drying cycles.
One of the standout features of this product is its versatility. Not only can it be used as a bed canopy, but I've also found it to be a fantastic addition to our wedding arch, party decorations, and even as an artistic backdrop for photography sessions. Additionally, its lengthy dimensions allow me to have ample material for draping or repurposing into a mosquito net for outdoor sleeping arrangements.
As a pet owner, I have experienced some tribulations with static buildup on the fabric, but this issue has been easily mitigated by investing in a fabric guard spray to reduce clinginess. Overall, I consider the Warm Home Designs Bed Canopy Curtains Fabric to be a worthwhile addition to any bed or event setup, offering both style and functionality in one stylish package.

I recently upgraded my daughter's bedroom with the Joyreap 4 Corners Post Canopy Bed Curtain, and I must say it's a game-changer for adding a touch of elegance and royalty to her space. The bed curtain's intricate design and high-quality polyester fabric make it feel luxurious, creating a cozy atmosphere that soothes her into the deepest sleep.
The 4-cornered curtain provides all-around protection, giving her a private, sacred space to unwind and feel secure. I also appreciate its gorgeous design, transforming her bed into a luminous palace that fulfills her princess fantasy.
The bed curtain's Premium Quality and Chemical-free materials ensure a comfortable and natural sleeping environment, reducing the need for extra repellents. Moreover, the included plastic wall anchors, screw hooks, and ribbon make installation a breeze.
One minor concern is that the bed curtains don't come with lights, which could have added an extra touch of magic and romance to the overall look. Additionally, they require hand washing with normal-temperature water during maintenance.
All in all, this stylish and eye-catching bed canopy is a delight for my daughter, bringing joy and comfort to her every night. If you're a parent looking to transform your child's bedroom into a royal retreat, I highly recommend the Joyreap 4 Corners Post Canopy Bed Curtain.

The moment I installed the canopy, I was amazed by its elegant appearance and the way it transformed my bedroom into a dreamy escape. The pink floral lace adds a charming touch to the space, making it perfect for those who love vintage aesthetics. The cellular encryption mesh does not only offer protection from mosquitoes and dust but also adds an extra layer of intimacy and privacy in our master suite.
One of the standout features of this canopy is its versatile design. It fits seamlessly on beds with frames as well as those without, making it easy to install and adjust according to individual preferences. Additionally, the canopy comes with no-door sides, which allow easy access to the bed while still maintaining the overall integrity of the design.
In terms of use, I've found the JQWUPUP Canopy Bed Curtains exceptionally easy to maintain. Despite being made of delicate mesh and lace, it holds up quite well under regular washing and ironing. And since the colors are richly saturated, you won't have to worry about them losing their charm over time.
On the downside, I've noticed that the fabric tends to absorb moisture and can become heavy when wet. So, it's essential to ensure thorough drying before putting it back on your bed. Another minor inconvenience is that the canopy may not be the most suitable choice for families with very young children, as the openings can pose a risk of accidental entanglement or entrapment.
Overall, the JQWUPUP Canopy Bed Curtains have made a significant difference in establishing a peaceful and intimate sanctuary within our home while providing optimal protection against pests and dust. As a proud parent and homeowner, I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to elevate their bedroom decor while prioritizing comfort and safety.

I've been using this canopy bed curtain for a while now, and I must say it's been quite the game-changer. It instantly transformed my previously plain-looking bedroom into a charming little retreat. The thing I like most about it is the versatility.
Depending on my mood or the time of year, I can easily switch up the look. Sometimes I suspend it from the ceiling for a full canopy bed effect, and other times I just drape it over my existing poster bed. This canopy bed curtain is truly a wonderful addition to any bedroom, and it's made my sleep experience even more comfortable and stylish.
The fabric is light and breathable, yet it's durable enough to withstand daily use. Plus, it's a breeze to clean! . I'm so glad I found this product.
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cost-effective way to add a touch of whimsy and charm to their bedroom.

Buyer's Guide

When shopping for Canopy Blackout Bed Curtains, there are several factors to consider to ensure you make the best purchase for your needs. In this guide, we'll explore important features, considerations, and general advice to help you choose the perfect blackout curtains for your canopy bed.

1. Material

The material of your blackout curtains plays a crucial role in determining their effectiveness in blocking out light. Choosing a dense and heavy fabric ensures optimal light blockage. Common materials for blackout curtains include polyester, velvet, and suede. Ensure you understand the pros and cons of each material type before making your choice.

2. Light Blockage

https://preview.redd.it/r8dloinbdb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a26d0d468a603f1074250f97ca3322dde6bfd55
One primary purpose of blackout curtains is to keep light from seeping through. Look for curtains with a high light-blocking rating, usually measured in 'light reflection percentage. ' Higher percentages indicate more effective light-blocking properties. Ensure the curtains you choose have a rating of at least 75% or higher for optimal light blockage.

3. Lining

Adding a lining to your curtains can significantly enhance their light-blocking ability. Lined curtains are usually equipped with a white or silver coating on the backside to reflect sunlight, thereby reducing the amount of light that passes through. Lined curtains are ideal for those with sensitive eyes or wanting to create a completely dark environment in their bedroom, especially for sleeping.

4. Durability

To ensure your blackout curtains last for an extended period, look for ones that are well-constructed and made from high-quality materials. Reinforced grommets or hooks will help prolong the life of your curtains by preventing tearing and fraying after extended use. Moreover, choosing a machine-washable option makes maintenance easy and cost-effective.

5. Versatility

Invest in blackout curtains that can serve multiple purposes, such as thermal insulation, sound dampening, and privacy protection. Curtains with layered fabric or a thick, insulating material can help maintain a comfortable temperature in your room and reduce noise from outside, making them a versatile choice for any bedroom setting.

6. Customization

Consider choosing blackout curtains that offer customization options, such as different lengths and widths, or a variety of colors and patterns. Customizing your curtains allows you to create a unique look that complements your bedroom's existing décor and enhances your overall sleeping experience.

7. Installation

Before making your final choice, ensure you understand the installation process for your new blackout curtains. Some curtains may require additional hardware or tools for proper installation, so make sure you have everything necessary before proceeding. If you're not comfortable with DIY projects, consider purchasing curtains with easy-to-follow instructions to simplify the process.

8. Price

Finally, establish a budget before beginning your shopping journey. Blackout curtains come in a wide range of prices, so determining your budget can help narrow your options and ensure you invest in a quality product that meets your needs without breaking the bank.

2024.05.19 05:50 sinskins Kittens… how does the cat distribution system work?

This feels like such a strange thing to post about in my millennial brain…
How do you find adoptable kittens locally? I’m so used to just finding signs saying ‘free kittens’ or cardboard boxes… good lord I’m so old!! I’m very happy to pay adoption fees, that’s not the concern at all, obviously there are a lot of expenses associated with raising a kitten from birth to 8wks, I just have no idea how to find them!
I know people can’t post kittens/pets for adoption on most “for sale” platforms, and I’m curious how to go about finding them?
I’ve already registered with the SPCA, and they send me alerts any time they get kittens, but there’s not much… it’s peak season for the lovely little fuzz butts to be popping up so I know there must be lots out there, but I’m not seeing any, and I am resorting to driving around to see if there are community boards with ads posted, I feel pretty silly TBQH.
For the record, I am looking for a pair, and I have miles of experience with cats, I have lived with them for my entire life until the last 7 years. After a relationship ended, and my ex took the cat, I adopted a rescue golden retrieveborder collie who, as I learned, had an extremely high prey drive. I always wanted to bring home kittens again, but it would not be safe with my aggressive dog (I worked extremely hard with her, and she grew and developed such amazing skills, but she was an aggressive dog, she learned so much trust in me, but the facts remained).
Not to sound callous, and I’m immeasurably heartbroken, but she passed away at 17 years old. I have spent months recovering from her passing, she has left an immense hole in my heart that will never be filled. I am finally recovered enough from her passing to consider bringing home new babies, but I just don’t know how!
I know many people will come for me regarding adopting an older and/or elderly cat. I would love that so so much, to bring someone home who desperately deserves to live their final years in a loving space, and elderly cats are such a blessing. I also have a Labrador, who has lived with cats in the past, and adores them (and wants to be friends with anything that moves much to the dismay of the wild bunnies in our yard), but most older cats (at least at the SPCA) have flags on their file saying that they don’t do well with dogs. So, I’m not willing to subject them to a home where they wouldn’t feel comfortable… If I could find a pair of bonded older cats who are comfortable with a dog, I would welcome that. Given the number of cats that aren’t though, I feel that adopting kittens would be the best way to create a stress free environment for everyone involved (ie the kittens and the dog, idgaf about my stress levels lol, fuzzy babies are worth every ounce of stress)
Long long story short… how does one find kittens in this world???

2024.05.19 02:43 Defiant_Guidance_693 Help for destructive/territorial bun

Hi all! I recently had to surrender my first bunny after a pretty traumatic experience (he broke his jaw, I didn't have insurance, it was my last resort and absolutely heartbreaking). I know people have all the opinions on that, but not here to talk about that. His partner, my now solo bunny named Squish, was the SWEETEST bunny. She was so chill, and loved pets and would hop on my chest and face for them. She was initially handling the situation pretty well and was acting like her normal self. It's been a month though, and within the last week or two, she's gotten very destructive and now aggressive. She lives free roam in my bedroom in an apartment and she's started chewing my closet doors and baseboards, attempting to chew cords (they're blocked off), chewing plastic bins (now blocked off), and digging nonstop at my wood floors and her carpeted area. She's constantly trying to escape my room and digging at the door to escape. Now I'm like nonstop redirecting her and trying not to get bit/scratched! I know she must be bored but I have so many toys, balsa blocks, loofah chews, licorice root chews, cardboard mazes, hay blocks... I don't know what to do because now when I walk by she's growling/honking at me, she's bit my feet, and tries to box me when I pick up stuff off the floor. I'm trying to give her treats, petting her when she allows it... I know she's processing her partner leaving and I love her and I feel for her. I don't forsee getting another bunny, after the whole experience with the broken jaw and the bonding experience I had before getting Squish was terrible.
I guess I'm asking, will this moodiness pass? What do I do? I could block off a smaller area in my room but that seems like it would make her more bored and depressed. Does she need to be rebonded to be happy again? That would mean for me potentially finding her a new home. This whole thing sucks and I just want the best for her. Any advice welcome <3

2024.05.18 18:20 maxiesmom23 Traveling to DR at 22 weeks

My husband and I had a trip planned to a nice resort in Punta Cana, DR for early august before we found out we’re expecting. I’ll be 22 weeks at the time of the trip. Are we crazy for traveling internationally at this time? We have to decide this weekend if we want to transfer the credit to a US resort. There’s some nice ones in Florida that were considering. Thoughts and advice? Pregnancy has been smooth sailing so far and we’ve been to this resort before, but you never know. Thanks!

2024.05.18 17:00 nepajwndhcpak Is my tiredness due to me only acting happy when I’m not or something else?

I guess I’m still young (14F) but recently I’ve realised that I’ve not really expressed any emotion other than just happiness. It’s not that I’m always happy it’s just that I don’t know how to show any other emotion to someone like say family or friends.
It’s not that it started recently but I’ve realised I’ve always been like that. It’s either I look/act really happy or I’m just blank. I struggle with showing gratitude, sadness and saying no to people. I don’t think the fact that my friends are the type to compliment every feature about you everyday partly because I just don’t know how to respond to them. Like yeah, I love them and I’m thankful I just can’t say thank you without seeming awkward so I just go “Hmmm” and seem really ungrateful.
I’m also really bad at comforting people but that’s just normal. I get all awkward when one of my friends come to me crying about something because I just don’t know what I should say.
Another thing is I’ve never cried/seemed upset or sad around anyone other than two times in my life (not counting when I was a baby /toddler /still in primary school). The first time was when I went to Spain with my friends (accompanied by our school) and I’d gotten a text from my mother saying that one of our pets was really ill and might die. The other time I didn’t even notice that I was crying. One of my friends just said “Oh H, you’re crying” and that was when I realised what I was actually crying about and that I was crying. I was crying about how two of our friends got in a fight, stupid things like that.
I’ve only ever cried in front of my parents when I was really angry/frustrated with something they’ve said like punishments and things like that. I’ve only really cried out of sadness on my own like say, locking myself in a bathroom, crying and then washing my face so no one can see.
I’ve cried in front of strangers before though. My local mosque has this thing where on Friday, once a month they hold a youth qiyam for girls. They’d serve either pizza or burgers, do reminders, teach us more about Islam and hold activities. However, whenever I went I’d suffer from panic attacks because there were too many people. They all knew each other, were older than me, and most of them would be whispering and giggling to each other. That made me think they were laughing/talking about me being sat alone in the corner in the fetal position and playing with my abaya. I don’t really wear a hijab or an abaya other than to go to mosque so I’m always adjusting them and wondering if I’m even wearing them right for if my baby hairs or just hair altogether is poking out. Then it’d get too loud for me and I’d start crying. The women who host the qiyam would take me to another room, give me some food and a drink then sit with me. Sometimes in silence and other times they’d talk to me about their kids, school, my options for my GCSEs and stuff. Even then I’d feel awkward and hate the fact I’d cried in front of people. However, this only happens when my friend and her sister don’t go. Sadly, they stopped going and so I did too. My mother thinks I have social anxiety but this hasn’t happened much. Yeah, I’ll panic slightly whenever I have to answer a question in lessons, read out my work in English in front of people or even just sit at the front of the classroom (because of the seating plans my teachers have I’m almost always sat either at the front or close to it) but it’s never a full blown panic attack. I’d only get red in the face, which thankfully isn’t that noticeable as I’ve got dark skin, or my heart will start beating faster than normal. I tend to cover my mouth when I eat or avoid eating in front of people who aren’t my friends altogether (unless I’m in a restaurant, then I just have to deal with it). I’d say I only have tendencies rather than actual social anxiety.
My mother also thinks that I might have really minor ADHD as when she researched some of the tendencies she noticed that I had most of not all of them. I’d be really forgetful, talk too much about random things (of which I get really anxious about as I think that people are sick of me talking but I can’t stop), I fidget a lot either with hair my fingers my clothes or this weird thing that I do with my thumb that I can’t explain, I’ll suddenly get really angry with mainly my brother over little things like who sits in my favourite chair in the corner, I interrupt people a lot or have the urge to, I can’t keep anything organised or tidy, I’m always late to either school or going out with friends. But again I don’t think I really have it because I can do many tasks that are known to be difficult to do for someone with ADHD like say reading a book. I usually read at night particularly quickly and almost never get distracted. I’m not really hyper unless I’m with friends but even that tires me out quickly because of me looking happy when I’m not.
I think the whole being happy thing might be affecting me. For some reason I get really really tired at around 13:30 (when our lunch has ended and we’re in our 5th lesson of the day). It’s like the tired that makes it sort of difficult to breathe or keep your eyes open. I don’t ever fall asleep I just sit in lessons with my eyes shut. I’m still listening it just looks like I’m not. I can manage walking home for a while but when I’m Like 3/4 of the way home I struggle to walk a bit. Not a lot, my leg just buckles a few times and my footsteps get heavy-ish.
Normally it’s not that bad but a few days ago I was really really drained. I was so drained that even though I could keep my eyes open I was just staring at a point in the distance. I couldn’t stand up so even though we were in a lesson where you had to walk around to get all the materials for making the items. It was so bad that at least 3 teachers had to ask if I was okay. They started getting the equipment for me after I said “I’m just tired”.
After that I was walking with a friend to our next lesson because she waited outside my room to walk with me. I noticed that I subconsciously transitioned to happy even though I wasn’t really feeling fine. I was walking normally albeit a bit slower than usual. As soon as she left after walking me to my room I immediately felt even more fatigued than before. And because I didn’t want to have to keep up the happy act with them whilst walking home I decided to run off and walk home really quickly to sleep as quickly as possible. As they weren’t in my previous lesson I didn’t tell them what I was doing.
I was able to walk quite quickly for a while but halfway through I started to feel instantly tired. My leg buckled more than usual and my heavy footsteps could’ve been noticeable to a few people who walked past me. When I got home I couldn’t really sleep so I resorted to sitting in an armchair in the corner of the living room, wrapping myself in a blanket even though it was 20C at the time and staying there for the rest of the day. I’d close my eyes a few times but couldn’t fall asleep.
To be honest I don’t actually know the real reason I get so tired. At first I thought it was because of my iron deficiency and to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised as it makes me really dizzy most of the time. I asked my mother why I’m always getting tired and she thought the same thing until I told her it was after lunch. That made her think it was just a food coma but I only have a sandwich with crisps and some raisins and because it only seems to happen on school days. The emotions thing is something that I’ve only just recently thought of as I’ve just noticed how I’m always acting happy when I’m actually not. I honestly have no idea and while it’s not a major concern, I’d really like to know why I’m always so drained.

2024.05.18 14:40 Zo-ologyography Difficulty in managing iPhone storage issues

Hi! I apologize in advance if I did any of this wrong, I’ve never made a post before. But I just wanted to turn here to ask for help with this issue I keep on repeatedly having.
So I (21F) have an iPhone 11, which comes with 64 GB of storage. Currently I’ve used up 63.78 GB of this. Since maybe a few months ago, I started to run into the issue of running out of storage. When this happened, I would go to my settings, look at which things were taking up the most and do what I can to minimize them, for example: if my messages were taking up a lot, I would go to “review large attachments” and see which longer videos and screen recordings I sent or were sent to me that I could delete, and delete or offload the data of apps that I don’t use. But then time would pass, and it would happen again. I really don’t have that many apps, over and beyond the ones that come with the iPhone (some of which I’ve deleted) and ones that are crucial for banking, transit, and other essential ones, only one mobile game, and I only have two social media apps (3 if you count Reddit I guess lol), etc.
It is currently not at all financially feasible for me to fix this issue by upgrading my phone, unfortunately. Even if it was, I really try to minimize my consumption of new tech with how exploitative, unethical, and environmentally damaging the cobalt / lithium battery mining industry is. So I try to make each devise last as long as possible and only upgrade when I absolutely need to.
Even though I’m young, i have never been the most adept with technology. I’m good enough with computers to have passed a basic coding & programming course for school, but let’s just say I’ve never been the kid who helped the teacher fix the projector, or the family member who messes with the wifi router and TV cables at home. So I’d really love some advice if possible. I’m going to lay out as much info as possible so someone can hopefully identify something that might be the issue and what could help. I wanted to attach screenshots of my storage report in my phone settings to help, but it seems that this community does not allow attachments to posts, so I’ll have to do my best to describe.
The one thing that I do have is a lot of photos. For some background as to why / rationalizing it, next paragraph: if you dgaf then skip to the paragraph after that, where it goes back to being specifically about the situation at hand:
One reason I have so many photos is that I have moved around a lot my whole life, and lived in a lot of different places, so with the very frequent change of scene, you can imagine I would probably have more photos than the average person who grew up and lived in one or two cities their whole life. To add onto this point, I’m currently overseas, far from my home country, doing working a job for the next four months, and this involves a lot of travel, where I’d be obviously want to be taking pictures of the places I go. I’m also in a long-distance relationship, and as such, we send each other photos, and screenshots of how we did on the wordle, etc. I try to delete these afterwards, but it still adds up. Furthermore, I’m an ecology and wildlife biology student, so a lot of what I do involves taking pictures and making sound recordings of observations while I’m outside, both while conducting fieldwork, identifying species, taking down observations for classes, and out of my own personal interest / passion while I’m out and about and find something interesting. One final important reason is that I have a little sister who has stage 4 cancer, of an extremely rare kind, with a very unpredictable nature. It seems that she is ok for now, but I my family and I are burdened with knowing that that could change very rapidly, and we really can’t know how much time we may have together. So as you can probably imagine, I have a lot of photos with her, and of her, that I would not ever consider deleting to make space, as you can hopefully understand.
I do try to go through my photos regularly to clear my camera roll of trash, blurry photos, random screenshots, and pictures of physics questions. But doing this isn’t a solution, or not a sustainable, realistic one anyway. I’ve already spent so much time doing this, to the point that I’m sure there has to be an easier way.
I used to have Google photos and used that, but then my Google account storage was full (google drive documents, emails, photos, everything) and that gave me trouble for a long time so eventually I resorted to deleting the Google photos app off my phone, and downloading my photos only onto the iPhone photos app. But eventually, because I was missing important emails, I decided that I’ll just have to pay the like $4.99/month subscription to get more Google storage.
Now, I’m thinking that I might be better to archive my photos using Google photos instead, now that I’m paying for more storage there, but I already deleted the app and currently don’t have enough storage to download it again. I also can’t download this app that is required in my building to be able to do laundry (which is honestly ridiculous but whatever). Moving overseas in general has required me to download quite a lot more apps than I expected to have to use for daily life, which contributes to my issue.
There’s also been an update available for my phone for some time now, but I’ve been unable to start it because of insufficient storage. In the mean time, my phone has started to have some weird issues it didn’t have previously, like one thing has been that a few days ago, all of my notes on my phone disappeared. This is highly distressing to me because those went back a very long time, and had very important information I’ve carefully recorded over the years I’ve had this phone. This is very upsetting so I’m hoping desperately that once I am eventually able to start the update on my phone, and get more storage, the notes will show up again. Another example is that sometimes, apps will just stop responding to touch, and I’m unable to scroll, to click, to type for a while until I close the app out and open it again, but sometimes that also doesn’t work right away. It usually only responds to sliding up from the bottom to return to the Home Screen, and the volume and power button. And before anyone asks, yes I have tried turning powering my phone all the way off, and on again.
One thing to note is that since arriving to this new country to work 2 weeks ago, I bought a new SIM card so I could have a functional phone number and a cell service plan. I don’t know if that could at all be contributing to any of this..? Maybe? But I also had these storage issues start up months ago, so it’s definitely not entirely that.
Another piece of information is that I do have a laptop, unfortunately it’s a MacBook Air tho (which I know is really not the best PC, it was a gift) which I got in 2020. Is there any way I could download my photos onto my computer to free up storage on my phone? Or would this not work because they have the same connected iCloud account? Also, if my photos were on another device, would that make it more complicated to send people photos from my camera roll, and would I be unable to pull up old photos I have in my camera roll (like of my pets, memories, things that come up in conversations, etc.) on my phone to show people?
Like I said before, I would really appreciate any advice you can offer whatsoever! I really don’t want to into an Apple Store and have to pay a fortune for a consult, when they might end up just telling me that I simply need to upgrade my phone. If you have any questions or points to clarify, please feel free to ask in the comments. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this, I am deeply grateful, and may life treat you well <3

2024.05.18 11:05 uunsaintedd 1 Year old GSD bites and does not like to get pet

Hello guys,
Before I explain my issue, just want to apologize for any grammar issues since English is not my first language.
This is my first ever time posting on reddit but I think this is the only option I've got atm. I've got her when she was 2 months old, she's 12 months old now and she's a West German Showline with amazing and sweet parents. I've never had an experience with owning a dog but I was around them pretty often so I had some base to work with but I never imagined that it would be this hard. Since in my country there are no great trainers that I could trust, I decided to stick with youtube and reddit to start with the basic training such as sit, stay and etc. and she was amazing, it took me only 5 minutes to teach her to sit, till this day she does not have any drive for her kibble so I did all my training with treats such as cheese, sausages and some treats from the pet store.
Here's the issue, she never grew out of biting even after I've tried multiple ways to stop her from biting and nipping, for the first 2 weeks, I tried ''Stop the fun'' method when I would just stop playing with her and leave as soon as she would bite me (Even made the ''yelp'' sound as many suggested to others), there was 0 progress, like literally no realization on her end that biting meant something bad. Then I got a crate and whenever she would bite me, I would just put her in crate for like 10-15 minutes and would just leave the room, I kept doing that for like 3-4 months without any progress whatsoever, after coming out of the crate, she would be chill for like 2 minutes and then the shitshow would start all over again with her coming to me or anyone else in the room, nip and run away. If you would try to pet her, she would bite or chew on your hand (Not aggressively ofc). After that method was not working, I tried the redirecting method and as you might've guessed, we had 0 progress. After reading so many posts on reddit and asking around in my friend group who owned a dog, everyone was saying that she would eventually grow out of it so I just decided to stay calm and just let her literally grow out of the biting thing but nothing was happening so the last resort was to hire the trainer who introduced us to a prong collar (I know that many of you guys are against prong collars and you have every right to be, but this is not the issue here). So what I would do, at home, I would put the prong collar on her so that it didn't pinch her without actually popping the leash and just be near her 24/7 just for the safety, and as soon as she tried (or actually did) to bite, nip or chew, I would pop the collar and she would stop, she did realize that biting=pop on the prong so that was a huge difference from what we had before, but then there was another issue, as soon as I'd took off the leash from the prong collar, or as soon I'd took of the collar itself, she realized that there was nothing stopping her from doing it again and you get it... I don't want to have my dog on the prong collar all the time (I don't want her to have prong collar at all but well..) just so that she stops biting but I don't know what to do anymore.
She's sweet, playful, she literally loves everyone, never ever showed any aggression at all towards anyone that she ever met, she wants to interact with everyone she sees, but this has really become an issue because:
  1. I can't interact with my own dog without getting her teeth on me
  2. If someone wants to pet her she might end up unintentionally hurting someone
  3. Sometimes it really fucking hurts and I think it's just the matter of time before she literally tears my skin apart.
Issue number 2 or rather something that I don't understand:
She has been doing this since the beginning and before someone asks, I've never hit her, and never did something to her that would make her afraid, I don't think she's even afraid by doing what I'm about to say but I'm still clarifying.
Whenever me or anyone wants to pet her, she just ducks her head or leans and tries to avoid being pet, really rare occasion like 1 out of 20 attempts she will allow you to pet her, she always wants to interact with me or my mom and is always excited and literally follows me to every place I go but that is something that I don't understand, sometimes I just really want to sit on my couch or lay on the bed and have her beside me and just pet her and be chill for like 5 minutes without her getting away or starting to chew on my hand.
Thank you very much if you've read this much and thanks to everyone who will provide any sort of advise, hell even if someone criticizes me for doing something wrong, please do because I really want to have a healthy relationship with my dog since I love her dearly.
