2024.05.28 19:57 xfiefax Rear ended at a red, unsure what to do next

Hi,
Last week I was rear ended at a red light. I've contacted insurance, police were called to the scene, fire dept and ambulance. I was at a complete stop and the car behind me just ran into me and then caused me to hit the car infront of me.
My insurance provider so far is cooperating and it's a slow process but moving. My issue is just with how the hit was done. It looks like the car at fault tried to stop with its own emergency brakes but the driver override it and continue full force into me. I get it shit happens and the cops will deal with that.
Onto our injuries. My back has muscular damage so I will heal just sucks for work being a carpenter, going to physio currently. My partner on the other hand has Whiplash, concussion as well as a ac dysfunction knee issues. She is seeing a physiotherapist as well. She also has to go back to her doctor this weekend for more testing.
Would it be smart to get an injury lawyer involved? I've heard it from a few friends and colleagues but again I've never been in this situation before.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

2024.05.28 19:14 Classic-Hand4296 Dealing with a Fine - GO Transit

Good afternoon GO Transit reddit,
I'm a former compliance service coordinator, after a 20+ year at GO Transit through a variety of positions I've entered retirement. For those who are unaware from a compliance coordinator is, we handle the back of house handling of all notice of violations issued for fare evasion. Aswell we coordinate the screenings and hearings for those offences, we also work with Metrolinx's prosecutors and the courts for the adminstration of provincial offences under Metrolinx Bylaw #2.
I wanted to share with some strategies on how to deal with a notice of violation if you've received one, I can understand some may have be fined and struggle on how to explain their situation while others purpoesly evade the system.
I will share some strategies that have worked in reducing or dismissing fines against riders, though I want to note that I do not support fare evasion and believe everyone should pay their fare before boarding and by posting this I don't encourage fare evasion but encourage education about Metrolinx's Bylaws and one's ability to defend themselves without a lawyer or paralegal.
Aswell, it should be noted the offence itself is an "Absolute Liability" offence, while we have dealt with hundreds of appeals based on good faith and other circumstances if you were inspected and did not have a ticket or correct fare, the ticket will likely be upheld.
1 - Financial Aid: Before my departure, a new policy had been implemented pertaining fianancial aid.
If a patron claims they are suffering financially, the screening and hearing officer both have the discrection to reduce or dismiss the fine.
In practice, we were receiving financial aid considerations with no proof. Despite this we are still instructed to dismiss or reduce fines.
Some examples that would qualify for reduction or dismissal:
Asking for an extension will not result in a reduction or dismissial.
Before we would ask for some type of proof of what you were claiming, however that practice is now considered discriminatory and we'll have to make a decision on no proof. Repeated usages without evidence may eventually solicit a request for proof of your situation.
You may see a reduction from a 35$ to a 10-15, or dismissal of the fine depending on the severity of your situation.
2 - Officer Error: In Metrolinx's bylaw for a notice of violation to be accepted on it's face the following elements where applicable must be correct.
If your name is mispelt even by a letter it's grounds to be thrown out.
Giving an address that doesn't exist, or is mispelt will mean the ticket was not adequtely served.
The wrong presto number even by a number is fatal, aswell as the train line and station.
Gender is also fatal, if they put the wrong gender when a Identity Card is shown.
3 - Ticket Service: The only way a notice of offence can be served is personally onto the defendant.
If you don't physically receive the ticket, maybe you run off the train or the inspector leaves and you then receive a notice of non-payment on that ticket in the mail then the ticket was not served correctly.
If an officer has all your information but you take off or they leave before serving the ticket, the officer may just print it which has it's own implications to their intregrity. We wouldn't know any different at the time as the ticket would go unpaid and we'd mail out a notice of due date. If this happens then you were not served and the ticket should be voided for improper service.
4 - Handheld Card Reader not tested/checked:
At the start of every shift every Officer must check their handheld card reader and calibrate it to read Presto Cards. If they don't do this, then there is reasonable doubt the machine worked correctly as the Officer cannot state in court or in a hearing they checked the device for faults.
While in the past older, tenured officers have done this the majority of the department is rather new and not in the practice of this.
If you were fined while using a presto card, you claim you don't believe the officer checked their device.
A supervisor will check their notes, if it's not in their memobook the ticket would be dropped.
One might say they could just forge their books to say this, the presto card eacher officer is assigned has records of when they tapped to test this can be checked in the backend if you do encounter this you can ask for a review of that data.
You may also request an Officer Notes both electronic (on the ticketing system) and their hand written memobook notes for any screening or hearing for your review as it's evidence to be disclosed to you.
5 - Tapping Machine down/Issue with the GO
If you've come into a station and a SFTP (Station Fare Transaction Processor) which is the Green presto tapping pole is glitching, not working or flickering aswell as the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) take a picture of this. If you are fined and can prove preferably with a picture of the machine not working we will cancel the ticket.
Alternatively we can check the database for error reports, if one comes up for that station we will cancel the ticket but this isn't always reliable.
6 - Officer Conduct
If you believe you were discriminated and targeted in some way during your fare inspection, or you were a victim of abusive behaviour through power, physically or verbally you may make a complaint about your experience.
If the complaint is founded GO Transit will discipline the officer and void the ticket (to settle any liability claims).
However, it should be noted:
If you believe you have a valid complaint for the interaction and have some proof of it the email to contact supervisors directly is: [TS.CITS@gotransit.com](mailto:TS.CITS@gotransit.com)
CIT stands for Customer Interaction Tracker.
The ticket may also be voided if there are factors to consider, if presented before a court or hearing officer would discredit Metrolinx or their employees.
I hope this guide has been helpful and I wish safe and happy travels to all that take the service.

2024.05.28 16:50 Halofreak1171 [CLAIM] The Garden of Eden Your Eyes Will Be Opened

Mood

Nowy Sącz, Polish Eden

“Name?”
The lady’s voice seemed to catch on the moss-covered walls of the church. It was a humble building, and quite clearly an old Catholic church that had been converted for its new purpose. Windows had been opened to let in animals, with birds and rodents taking advantage and making this their home. Where moss and vine didn’t cover the walls, paintings of the Earth Mother and Eden… the true Eden adorned them. While the building may have been built Catholic, its insides proclaimed it as far different.
“Name Sir?”
Her voice caught him off guard. Her face seemed mildly annoyed, as if he was holding up her day. To be fair, the hour long line he had waited in suggested that this place was busy, and yet when he walked in the church seemed quite empty. Beyond her face, she wore a rather plain-looking white top…or was it a dress? Whatever it was, no symbols or logos sat on the fabric besides a small, minimalistic tree, just on her left shoulder. It was the same symbol which sat above the church’s entrance, and the same one which he had seen all throughout his home town in recent weeks. It was the symbol of the Community, the supposed singular faith of Eden.
“Sir, I need a name or I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
Once again, her voice brought him out his daydream. He figured he might as well answer, he had waited all that time. “Szymon.”
She nodded, typing it down on a rather old-looking computer.
“Last names and any middle names sir?”
“Czajka… What exactly is this?”
The lady simply continued typing, not bothering to look up as she answered his question.
“It’s a Community Church.”
She said it so matter-of-factly that he couldn’t decide whether she was making a joke or if she genuinely believed he was that stupid.
“No, I know that obviously. I meant more… what is this process here? What are we doing? I thought this was a church sermon or something, not a reception desk.”
She paused for a second, before looking up and reaching over to a brochure stand behind her. As she grabbed one of the first pamphlets held within it, its title of “THE COMMUNITY AND YOU: HOW THE EARTH LOVES US ALL” visible even with his relatively poor eyesight, she also responded in a more welcoming tone.”
“Ah sorry, I figured you came in having seen the initiative around town. That’s my bad. Here at the Community, we appreciate that Eden’s faith is a little different from your own, and want to make the transition as smooth as possible for all. As such we’re running these drives so to speak, where people like yourself can come in, gain as much information as possible about the Community, and make an educated decision on whether to convert!”
Her warm tone was calming, even if he still suspected all of this to be a scam. Perhaps seeing a weird look on his face, the lady continued.
“We completely get that the way the Community does things may be abit odd at times, so if you have any questions during this process feel free to ask. If I may ask though, what made you think of coming here?”
That question made him ponder for a second. Why was he here? He supposed that everyone he knew was talking about the advantages of being an active Community member, and those that had joined were seeing great benefits for their families, or so it seemed. But there was more than that. It was subtle at first, but the more he saw ads and signs for the Community, the more drawn he felt to it. It had felt like nothing he had ever experienced before, a vacuum so powerful that his subconscious couldn’t help but be pulled in. He looked at the lady, unsure of how to answer.
“I felt like I needed a change of pace.”
She smiled at his answer, and yet the smile seemed off, as if he had gotten something wrong. Whatever it was, she quickly returned to a more neutral expression.
“That makes sense. Well, if you would follow me, I’ll take you to the first step of your education.”
As the lady got up, he hesitated. Her inflection, her tone, it all said something was wrong. All of a sudden the room felt small, and he felt even smaller, trapped. His eyes darted around the room, paranoia mounting, the feeling of being watched by something far larger than anything he had ever known growing. He went to stand up, to run, but his knees wouldn’t let him. Whatever was watching was close now. It felt old…dangerous…beyond the scope of what he considered possible. As tears welled up in his eyes he was certain that this was the end, whatever this was.
“Syzmon? I get the hesitation, but trust me, it’ll all be fine.”
Her words snapped him out of his stupor. They comforted him, made him feel safe, the same way his mother’s words did when he was a child. He shook his head and stood up, following the lady to the area behind the pulpit. Here, in an area normally reserved for priests and pastors, small booths had seemingly been set up, almost like private voting areas. She beckoned for him to enter one and sit on the provided chair.
As he sat, she handed him some decidedly ancient headphones as well as a hot cup of tea, and gestured to box TV which sat in front of him.
“This’ll be the start of your education Syzmon. Just put the headphones on and watch the TV, and all your questions will be answered.”
For a second, he felt the same panic rising, but before it could take hold the TV was on and the lady was off. Static filled his ears while darkness remained on the TV, just long enough for him to think something was broken. As he waited, he sipped on the tea, its flavour muted but decidedly earthy. Thinking the tech had broken, he looked to leave, before a cacophony of noise assaulted his ears. Trumpets played, high-pitched voices sang while low-pitched voices chanted. The noise commanded his attention, as did the TV, whose screen was now flashing bright, almost psychedelic colours. The sounds and colours burnt their way into his mind, but they too would stop suddenly. Alone with his thoughts for a second, he swore he could see shadows moving about behind him, only for that thought to be tossed away as screams ripped through the headphones, so loud he could only think that they were right there next to him. The image on the screen changed, to demonstrate a woman, dressed in a plain white dress, her black hair tangling down past her shoulders and elbows, her eyes a piercing green, walking through a serene garden. As she spoke, the screams quietened but never left.
“My child. It is good to see you. I am so happy to hear you wish to join the Community.”
He calmed down with this, the woman’s voice acting as a warm blanket. The tea smelled better now somehow, and invited him to drink even more, which he did without complaint.
“You are here to learn, but what exactly is it you must be taught? You understand how to worship, how to be a good man in the Catholic world, what more could you need for a faith admittedly quite similar to your old one? Syzmon, I must tell you that we lied a tiny amount. The Community is different. How? Well, let me show you!”
The picture changed once more, bright red flashing for a second, before scenes he couldn’t even describe began to take place. His mind was assaulted with the vile inhumanity of what he saw, the images tearing at the very makeup of his personhood. And all through this the woman spoke still.
“The Community is more than just a faith you think about once or twice a year. It requires devotion, love, dedication above all else.
More images, even worse somehow, continued playing. He could feel his mind failing him, it being unable to comprehend what he was seeing. Screams began to rip through once more, and yet the woman continued to speak.
“Szymon, what you must understand is that to enjoy the fruits of the Earth and the Community, you must give yourself entirely to the Earth Mother! You must understand that man is weak, and yet they believe themselves master of every domain they seek. No longer do they toil amongst the rest of the animals, NO! Instead they work to bend every atom to their will, assuming that it is their destiny to be gods! This is not the case my child. When you join the Community, you understand that humanity has its place, not as the master of worlds, but as its servant!”
The speech rang through his head, pushing its way past the disgusting imagery and terrifying screams. It buried itself deep within his brain, in some part that he could barely even fathom, and when it did, he saw eternity. The TV shut off in that moment, the noises and images gone. And so to did Szymon, only to reawaken a second later, no longer a man of God but a child of the Earth Mother.

REPORT: ON THE EXPANSION OF EDEN

Date: 01/01/2073

Author: Zalmoxis

For: God-King Iohannis, The Prophet Amon, & Pleistoros

I hope this email finds you all well...
The absorption of the Polish Commonwealth, alongside the final death of the EU, has rapidly transformed both the state of Eden and world affairs. This report, for your eyes only, will detail all the information I have gathered recently, both on the regions we have expanded into, and for the greater region as a whole.
The expansion of Eden has been both a positive and a negative. Of course, the positives include the realisation of Eden as a true power in the European space, as well as increased growth for the Earth Mother, though while these are self-evident, the negatives must be delved into. The most obvious negative is the increase in perversions. A more comprehensive document is on its way, however, there still remains a not-insignificant level of detail which I have obtained. Below is a list of the most relevant perversions and the changes, for your consideration.

The Cult of the Space Mother: An already extant perversion, Eden’s expansion into regions of the Commonwealth has seen the Cult of the Space Mother grow exponentially. Based on a technocratic-based theology, the Cult of the Space Mother believes that the Earth Mother is also the progenitor of alien lifeforms who most certainly exist, and who will come to Eden’s aid. Though harmless, the Cult has become widespread in Commonwealth converts, as its technocratic base appeals to those citizens of the ex-tech utopia. I have estimated that 1:12 converts from the Commonwealth quickly become a part of the Cult, making it increasingly significant in everyday Community life. While it is a harmless perversion, should it gain substantial weight from the new converts, the cult could represent a theocratic schism in the Community, which would be an existential threat to us all. Eden must either adapt these beliefs into its own, or snuff them out before they become something more.
The Remnants: Though the Commonwealth Army who joined Eden quickly threw off their chains and began dedicated members of the Community, such a quick large-scale conversion never could be perfect. Many of these converts have joined a perversion known as the Remnants, and while it is early days, their main differences stem from the fact that they are dedicated to the idea of the Eastern European State. While this may initially seem harmless, it means that they put the Earth Mother below Eden, and as such may be liable to cause issue if they believe the state is being put at risk for the wants of the faith. Though, this does mean that they are as dedicated as any military unit to Eden. The Remnants are also incredibly anti-Alfr, to the extent that it may be unwise to station them on the border with any Alfr state. In addition, while these reports are incredibly recent, a small number of Remnants have been found to clash with Community soldiers, especially those who either are Children or Warriors, or who are part of the Camp Follower Perversion. All of this is to say, if the Remnants are not kept in check, they could represent a fracturing force which may destroy Eden.
The Messianics: I’ll be frank. This perversion has so far mostly flew under my radar. Extant in some parts of Polish Eden, the Messianics seem to have taken Pagan-Christian syncretism to the nth degree. They believe that while the Earth Mother is the true creator, Jesus is also real, as well as being the Earth Mother’s son and the first messiah. Such a perversion is deeply concerning, because it suggests the possibility of a “new testament” Community, something which, atleast to me, seems like a possible crisis waiting to happen. Rumours are abound that these Messianics believe that another Messiah is due to come, and fewer still believe he already exists, in the form of either Iohannis or Pleistoros. This news can never reach the Earth Mother. If need be, these perverts must be stamped out.
Roman Catholics/Russian Orthodox: While not what we normally think when it comes to perversions, the recent expansion means that the Christian faith exists once more in Eden. Consisting largely in urban Belarus and rural Poland, the Christian faiths represent a heresy more than anything else. Intensive efforts are already occurring as to convert all who remain Christian, but lethal force is on the table should any holdout cities, towns, or villages not take to the Community. If they wish to meet their Lord so much, may their blood feed our Earth Mother.
Beyond these perversions, Eden’s strategic situation must be acknowledged. That is not my area of expertise, and I defer to both Pleistoros and Iohannis on the matter. However, the Earth Mother has recently spoken to me, suggesting that the Eden’s most major goal at this moment is the reunification of the Eastern Union (to be renamed to the Eden Union). This includes the Second Roman Republic, the UNSC-held Baltics, and the Russian Remnant state. While I will not say my thoughts on this goal here… it is perhaps something we should keep in consideration.
Thus ends this rather brief report. At the current rate, Eden should be back to near 100% Community penetration by 2077, though it is highly likely this could be sped up. Efforts will be undertaken to ensure the Community outside of Eden spreads also, as having a prior base will assist incredibly with any future conquests.

The Palace of the Earth Mother, Eden City

The test shook in her hand. She hadn’t believed it, thinking for days that the symptoms were something else. Yet as the bile rose up her throat, she stared at the two red lines, which seemed to stare back at her, almost alive and demonic in their nature. Screaming, she threw the test down and stormed out, walking to the darkest depths of the Palace. Even as she left that wretched thing behind, one question stuck out in her head.
What would it mean for a god, the God, to have a child?

2024.05.28 16:04 mapple3 You don't have to rush to Data Bank 19

I saw a bunch of people saying they rushed to Data Bank 19 because of the 80% drop rate for 5 star echos. They would talk about how amazing it feels to get 5 stars nonstop, and that they farmed all the bosses now, and they have 5 stars in every slot.
It struck me as weird since afaik the 80% drop rate is locked behind Union Level 40 which literally nobody has yet, so I tested it by reaching DB19 and... yeah, I was right. All the people who say they are DB19 already and "farmed all 5 stars" are straightup trolling or lying.
I should've known. Now you know

2024.05.28 15:39 kksingh11 Role of IMF in Impoverishing Countries

Role of IMF in Impoverishing Countries
The Communists communist party of great britain (marxist-leninist) Argentina Role of the IMF in impoverishing countries – the case of Argentina How the imperialists use the debt trap to loot the wealth of and enforce their hegemony over oppressed nations.
Imposed by executives in sharp suits and air conditioned offices, the conditions attached to IMF ‘loans’ (funds that very rarely reach the people of an indebted country) amount to a brutal war on the poor and a demand that all the resources of their country should be funnelled to the corporate bloodsuckers in the imperialist heartlands.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) was founded at the Bretton Woods conference in July 1944. This financial agency presents an image of itself as a democratic organisation that works “to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for all of its 190 member countries … by supporting economic policies that promote financial stability and monetary cooperation”. Nothing could be further from reality, however. Not only is the IMF not a democratic organisation but, as this article will show, the policies that it promotes favour only a handful of countries. The decisions of the IMF are related to the ownership of SDRs (special drawing rights), known as the ‘quota’, which by reflecting the relative position of a country in the world economy, determines its voting power. Thanks to this self-perpetuating formula, the United States commands 16.5 percent of IMF votes, while the G7 countries combined (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) command 41.25 percent. In a nutshell, the imperialist countries collectively, and in practice the dominant US imperialists, decide IMF policies, while the 171 non-imperialist countries that together hold less than half of the votes, have to obey them. The cure-all panacea of the IMF for any economy has always been ‘austerity’. In bourgeoise economic lingo, this is euphemistically referred to as ‘fiscal consolidation’ – a process aimed at ‘closing the gap’ between public income and public expenditure. In plain language, this inevitably means slashing pensions, healthcare and education services; cutting the salaries of doctors, teachers and other public servants; selling off publicly owned companies to international investors; cutting taxes to the benefit of corporations and banks; and implementing a raft of macroeconomic policies that will favour international finance capital. To implement these policies, the IMF relies on a so-called ‘surveillance process’, defined as “monitoring the economic and financial policies of member countries and providing them with policy advice … by recommending appropriate policy adjustments”. This in turn must be facilitated by a suitably servile comprador bourgeoise, whose members are willing to assist in this process of looting in return for a few tasty morsels from the imperialist banqueting table, all while the masses are being reduced to destitution. In his powerful The Open Veins of Latin America, Eduardo Galeano pointed out: “With the magical incantation of ‘monetary stabilisation’, the IMF – which not disinterestedly confuses the fever with the disease, inflation with the crisis of existing structures – has imposed on Latin America a policy that accentuates imbalances instead of easing them … liberalises trade by banning direct exchanges … forces the contraction of internal credits … freezes wages, discourages state activity. To this programme it adds sharp monetary devaluations.” (1971, p220) The people of Latin America, Africa and Asia have been suffering from IMF-imposed austerity for decades. For Argentina, the story of deception via its external debt started earlier. In 1824, Buenos Aires negotiated a loan with Britain’s Baring Brothers & Co bank. From the £1m agreed, the country received only £570,000 – not in gold as had been agreed but in paper notes agreeing the sale of British commodities at a price of their choosing! The interest on this extremely one-sided loan soaked up most of the country’s revenues for several decades. After successive rounds of refinancing the, ‘loan’ had been inflated to £4m, and was finally paid off 124 years after it was taken out by the government of Juan Perón in 1947. At the time of writing, yet another debt crisis is creating the conditions for the complete collapse of Argentina’s economy. As has happened at other times of harsh neoliberal austerity regimes (1976-83, 1989-99 and 2015-19), Argentina looks as though it is heading for bankruptcy. The military junta and Argentina’s first neoliberal experiment The military coup of March 1976 provided the opportunity to implement neoliberal policies for the first time in Argentina. During the junta’s rule (1976-83), the country’s industrial base was destroyed, 20,000 manufacturing businesses were closed, and the value added by Argentinean industry, including construction, as a percentage of GDP dropped from 50.89 in 1976 to 41.55 percent in 1983. As a result, the once strong and organised proletariat, which had fought fiercely against dictatorships earlier in the century, disappeared and many workers’ rights were eliminated. As the country moved from production to financial profiteering, the masses were impoverished as the country’s wealth was hoovered up by big corporations and international financial institutions. Before being kidnaped and murdered, Argentine writer Rodolfo Walsh wrote to the military junta: “The economic policies of this junta – which follow the formula of the International Monetary Fund that has been applied indiscriminately to Zaire and Chile, to Uruguay and Indonesia – recognise only the following as beneficiaries: the old ranchers’ oligarchy; the new speculating oligarchy; and a select group of international monopolies headed by ITT, Esso, the automobile industry, US Steel, and Siemens, which Minister Martinez de Hoz and his entire cabinet have personal ties to.” (24 March 1977) During this process, thousands of Argentineans were detained, tortured and killed, and people around the globe learned a new word: “desaparecidos” (the disappeared). Thanks to the good will of the IMF, Argentina’s external debt grew from $7.9bn in 1976 to $46bn in 1983. As one of its last acts in government, the junta nationalised all private debt, making the people of the country responsible for loans taken out by bankers and landowners. Unable to pay this huge debt, Argentina has never been in a ‘normal’ state since; its ‘external debt’ became an ‘eternal debt’, dictating every aspect of economic and social life. Democracy returns but the eternal debt remains In 1983, the first democratically elected government following the junta decided not to reject the external debt inherited dictatorship but to honour it. Thus the government of Raúl Alfonsín, which had incarcerated the junta criminals for their human rights abuses continued the junta’s policy of surrendering control of the economy to the IMF and its monitoring missions. As Fidel Castro correctly pointed out in 1985: “How can a government and a country that has to go every month to discuss with the International Monetary Fund what it is able to do at home be called independent? It is a fiction of independence, and we see this as a national-liberation struggle, which can truly bring together, and for the first time in the history of our hemisphere, all social strata in a struggle to achieve true independence.” Between 1984-88, IMF-imposed policies continued to be enacted, to the benefit of imperialist corporations and financiers. The result was that, despite some success in curbing inflation for a short period in 1985-86, the economy never recovered. In 1989, the Alfonsín government’s last year in office, the IMF withdrew financial support to Argentina in response to missed interest payments, pushing the country into a crisis. Inflation became hyperinflation (reaching a high of more than 3,000 percent annually) and elections were called six months early. In the end, thanks to the recommended policies of the IMF, the debt continued to grow from the $46bn that had been inherited in 1983 to $65bn in 1989. Everything was ready for a second neoliberal experiment. How a popular leader become a neoliberal After the failure of the Alfonsín government, the new president was elected on a platform of social justice, promising to defend jobs, salaries and publicly-owned companies, and to improve the life of millions in the tradition of Peronism. Having been installed in office, however, he changed sides and become the president of the landowners, big corporations and banks. With the support of the IMF, Carlos Menem (1989-99) implemented the recommendations of the ‘Washington consensus’ and applied the mantra of neoliberalism: privatisations, cuts to social expenditure, and further opening of the economy. The first step was to sell off all the publicly-owned companies that had been created through the efforts of several generations of Argentinians. Gas, oil, electricity, telephone, water, airlines and railroads all disappeared as public assets, their wealth being transferred so as to make foreign corporations and corrupt politicians richer at the expense, once again, of the Argentine people. This was followed by a cut in public social expenditure via reductions in spending on education, healthcare and social security, and via the privatisation of state-held pensions assets. Finally, the import duties were slashed, to the benefit of overseas monopoly corporations, allowing foreign goods to flood Argentina’s internal market. The consequent destruction of Argentinean industry, as initiated by the military junta, was now complete. To sustain these policies, the government set a one-to-one exchange rate between the US dollar and the local currency (known as the convertibility law), allowing foreign investors to exchange dollars for pesos, invest the pesos at an interest rate higher than the global IRR (internal rate of return) and then, months later, convert the pesos back to dollars. This operation, known as carry-trade, favoured big investors from around the world to the further detriment of the country’s finances, and was supported by the IMF, which continued lending money to Argentina. In the final years of the Menem government, the country’s economy deteriorated rapidly, poverty and inflation increased, and the country fell into a deep recession in 1998. Corruption was rampant, and anti-government resistance through the first organised cacerolazos (people making noise by banging pots or pans to protest) was on the rise. The IMF had done its job well. During this period, Argentina’s external debt grew to 133 percent of GDP, from $65bn in 1989 to $152bn ten years later. The second neoliberal experiment was reaching its end. Elections and the 2001 collapse The next government arrived promising to resolve the economic crises and fight corruption. Under the direction of the IMF, however, it continued to apply all the same policies that had failed the country before. In August 2001, as foreign deposits were leaving the country, Argentina was unable to pay the interest on its debt and requested an extension of the arrangement. IMF managing director Horst Köhler demanded the substitution of the local currency by the US dollar, and while the government hesitated, the IMF withdrew support. As the economy plummeted, money withdrawals increased, and the government decided to freeze all bank deposits (a measure known as the corralito). Popular protest increased and, incapable of resolving the crisis, the government announced a state of siege. During the ensuing December riots, 36 people were killed by police in the streets. President Fernando de la Rua (1989-2001) resigned on 20 December, and the crisis-hit country had five presidents during the two weeks that followed. Under the slogan “All of them must go!” (Que se vayan todos!), millions of people participated in neighbourhood assemblies, occupying unused land and implementing workers’ self-management in hundreds of factories. In the end, Argentina defaulted on its public debt (at that time $152bn), abandoned the fixed exchange rate by devaluing the peso (40 percent in January to around 300 percent at the end of the first semester of 2002), with the result that production collapsed and high levels of unemployment and poverty become the norm. IMF out of Argentina After the 2001 default, the new government of Nestor Kirchner (2003-07) developed a strategy for undermining the neoliberal agenda that had been responsible for the country’s economic collapse. His government worked to eliminate the permanent interference, recommendations and pressure from the IMF. In 2005, to the dismay of the financial centres, the President Hugo Chávez strengthened Venezuela’s relationship with Argentina. The Bolivarian government bought $2.4bn of Argentina’s debt, providing a welcome boost to the central bank reserves and helping the country to break its dependency on the IMF for debt refinancing. By repaying in full the $9.81bn owed to the IMF, Argentina gained financial independence from the institution’s endless negotiations and recommendations, all of which were unfailingly unfavourable in social and economic terms to Argenina’s people. The repayment followed a similar move by President Lula da Silva of Brazil, whose Workers party government had paid off its IMF debt in full two days earlier. For the first time, Latin America’s two largest economies were in a position to develop social policies that would improve the life of their people. As President Kirchner pointed out: “With this payment, we bury an ignominious past of eternal, infinite indebtedness.” The volume of the inherited external debt didn’t change with the payment to the IMF, but it did allow the government to pursue more independent policies. During the 12-year Kirchner period (Nestor Kirchner’s presidency [2003-07] was followed by two terms of office for his wife Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner [2007-11 and 2011-15]), Argentina implemented economic measures outside the neoliberal toolbox and built a political consensus through a discourse of social justice, economic independence and national autonomy. The economy improved, with GDP up by 62 percent and the value of exports by 81 percent. Unemployment and poverty were significantly reduced, and the government renationalised some of the key sectors that had been privatised during the neoliberal years, the most relevant being Argentina’s national oil company (YPF). The Kirchner government also restructured 93 percent of the country’s foreign debt, on it had defaulted in 2001. A small group of ‘vulture funds’ had acquired credit default swaps (CDS) against Argentinean bonds and $1.3bn of the bonds’ total value for cents, and they pursued the country via various courts in an unceasing quest for full payment. Much to the imperialists’ chagrin, the Kirchner governments never gave in to the vulture funds’ rapacity. Return of the IMF In 2015, the Peronist movement went to the elections divided into different factions, and the election was won by Mauricio Macri (2015-19) supported by a right-wing neoliberal coalition. A third neoliberal experiment was begun in Argentina. During the first 60 days of his government, President Macri paid off the vulture funds, reversed most of the social policies implemented during the Kirchner period, and reintroduced the carry-trade policies that had failed the country in the past – all to the benefit of international finance capital. To fund this massive transfer of wealth, the government increased its external debt once more, from $153bn at the end of 2014 to $280bn in 2019 – an increase of 83 percent in only four years! In June 2018, the Macri government asked the IMF for help, reaching an agreement on a 36-month stand-by arrangement (SBA) amounting to US$50bn (equivalent to about 1,110 percent of Argentina’s quota in the IMF), what has become known as the biggest loan ever in the history of the IMF. IMF managing director Christine Lagarde congratulated the Argentine authorities on reaching this agreement, stating: “The plan owned and designed by the Argentine government is aimed at strengthening the economy for the benefit of all Argentines.” The speed with which the agreement was reached led many to speculate that the intervention of US president Donald Trump in support of the loan was aimed at helping Macri to win the upcoming 2019 elections, giving him some leeway to make investments in social infrastructure. Nothing was further from reality, however: none of the promised schools, hospitals or roads were ever built. The money disappeared in capital flight, in paying dividends to overseas corporations, and in boosting the profit margins of financial institutions. As even the IMF’s own ex-post facto evaluation report admitted: “The programme did not deliver on its objectives … mounting redemptions, along with capital flight by residents, put considerable pressure on the exchange rate.” The result was that “the exchange rate continued to depreciate, increasing inflation and the peso value of public debt, weakening real incomes, especially of the poor”. In 2019, the Peronist ‘Frente de Todos’ (Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner) coalition won the elections for the period 2019-23, and millions hoped for the reversal of Macri’s policies. Sadly, it was not to be. Failure of the Fernandez government Right at the outset, the new government committed a cardinal sin. Instead of repudiating Macri’s IMF agreement, it accepted this vast inherited debt. The ideological limitations of Peronism were clearly revealed, and became a major obstacle to country’s development and to the welfare of millions of Argentinean people. Accepting the IMF agreement, and without any investigation into how this vast sum had been used, the government accepted IMF monitoring missions and found itself forced to limit its plans to implement progressive macroeconomic policies, conduct an independent foreign policy and invest in social services. Recognition of the IMF debt put the government into a trap, as had happened so many times in the past, and Argentine once again became a slave to impossible repayment commitments. The clock for the next economic crisis was ticking again. According to the government, the main causes of the economic debacle were the three consecutive years of drought that affected agricultural production, the mandatory lockdown and social distancing measures for the Covid pandemic, and to a lesser extent the war in Europe. But government and bourgeois politicians of all stripes failed to acknowledge the core of the problem: the IMF and the external debt that had been taken on by the previous government. Neoliberal policies return to Argentina with a vengeance With the victory of Javier Milei (2023), Argentina is returning once again to the bad old days, beginning its fourth neoliberal experiment. During the first days of the Milei government, the local currency was devaluated by 100 percent, public investment in infrastructure was suspended, barriers to the import of goods and services were removed with no consideration to the impact on jobs, energy prices were raised, subsidies for the poorest were reduced, and thousands of public employees were made redundant. At the same time, a complete alliance was declared with the USA, and now Israel, the country’s planned entry into the Brics group was cancelled, and a vociferous discourse was mounted against every progressive government in the region. The IMF was delighted. As director of communications Julie Kozack stated in December 2023: “IMF staff welcome the measures announced earlier today by Argentina’s new economy minister Luis Caputo. These bold initial actions aim to significantly improve public finances in a manner that protects the most vulnerable in society and strengthens the foreign exchange regime. Their decisive implementation will help stabilise the economy and set the basis for more sustainable and private sector-led growth.” In reality, of course, these measures are resulting in mass impoverishment, as reported by the Social Debt Observatory of the UCA (Catholic University of Argentina), which has declared poverty to be at a 20-year high (57.4 percent). This means that 27 million people are now considered poor in Argentina, while extreme poverty is affecting 15 percent of the population. Through a 664-clause bill, President Milei is pushing for further reforms that will destroy the existing social and economic structure of the country in favour of landowners, international corporations and finance capital. The bill will erase worker’s rights that have taken decades to achieve, while also curtailing the right to protest – with penalties of up to six years in prison for participants and organisers of demonstrations. By declaring a state of emergency, Milei is demanding absolute power to govern without the involvement of Congress, following in the steps of Adolf Hitler, who in 1933 pushed the Nazis’ Enabling Act through the Reichstag, granting himself absolute power to make and enforce laws without further parliamentary involvement. Right-wing backbenchers support the bill, while other sections of Argentina’s bourgeois political parties are testing the waters, sometimes mildly confronting the bill or requesting minor changes. Although the majority of backbenchers for UxP (Union por la Patria) are opposed to the bill, changing sides is not an unknown feature of bourgeois political life. Unable to trust backbenchers, Argentina’s main CGT (General Confederation of Workers) trade union has appealed successfully to the National Labour Court, challenging the constitutionality of the labour legislation contained in the proposed law. Since President Milei is refusing to accept any change to the proposed bill, even his supporters are rethinking their position in each of the bill’s clauses. In the latest developments, after some defeats the bill was sent back for further study, constituting a temporary defeat for the government. But this is a war against the people and there is no place or time for complacency. Without a clear political direction, the masses of Argentina are marching again, as in the economic crisis of 2001, to defend their basic rights. Within two months of the installation of a new government, cacerolazos and demonstrations had become the new normality. Those progressive forces who are debating whether or not the time is ripe to confront the government, would do well to remember the apt observation of Juan Perón: “People will march with their leaders at the head or with the heads of the leaders.”

2024.05.28 14:21 Significant-Notice- Deadly Precaution

MSNBC asked me to put together my thoughts on the FDA and sunscreen. I think the piece came out very well. Here are some key grafs:
…In the European Union, sunscreens are regulated as cosmetics, which means greater flexibility in approving active ingredients. In the U.S., sunscreens are regulated as drugs, which means getting new ingredients approved is an expensive and time-consuming process. Because they’re treated as cosmetics, European-made sunscreens can draw on a wider variety of ingredients that protect better and are also less oily, less chalky and last longer. Does the FDA’s lengthier and more demanding approval process mean U.S. sunscreens are safer than their European counterparts? Not at all. In fact, American sunscreens may be _less_ safe.
Sunscreens protect by blocking ultraviolet rays from penetrating the skin. Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, with their shorter wavelength, primarily affect the outer skin layer and are the main cause of sunburn. In contrast, ultraviolet A (UVA) rays have a longer wavelength, penetrate more deeply into the skin and contribute to wrinkling, aging and the development of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. In many ways, UVA rays are more dangerous than UVB rays because they are more insidious. UVB rays hit when the sun is bright, and because they burn they come with a natural warning. UVA rays, though, can pass through clouds and cause skin cancer without generating obvious skin damage.
The problem is that American sunscreens work better against UVB rays than against the more dangerous UVA rays. That is, they’re better at preventing sunburn than skin cancer. In fact, many U.S. sunscreens would fail European standards for UVA protection. Precisely because European sunscreens can draw on more ingredients, they can protect better against UVA rays. Thus, instead of being safer, U.S. sunscreens may be riskier.
Most op-eds on the sunscreen issue stop there but I like to put sunscreen delay into a larger context:
Dangerous precaution should be a familiar story. During the Covid pandemic, Europe approved rapid-antigen tests much more quickly than the U.S. did. As a result, the U.S. floundered for months while infected people unknowingly spread disease. By one careful estimate, over 100,000 lives could have been saved had rapid tests been available in the U.S. sooner.
I also discuss cough medicine in the op-ed and, of course, I propose a solution:
If a medical drug or device has been approved by another developed country, a country that the World Health Organization recognizes as a stringent regulatory authority, then it ought to be fast-tracked for approval in the U.S…Americans traveling in Europe do not hesitate to use European sunscreens, rapid tests or cough medicine, because they know the European Medicines Agency is a careful regulator, at least on par with the FDA. But if Americans in Europe don’t hesitate to use European-approved pharmaceuticals, then why are these same pharmaceuticals banned for Americans in America?
Peer approval is working in other regulatory fields. A German driver’s license, for example, is recognized as legitimate — i.e., there’s no need to take another driving test — in most U.S. states and vice versa. And the FDA does recognize some peers. When it comes to food regulation, for example, the FDA recognizes the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as a peer. Peer approval means that food imports from and exports to Canada can be sped through regulatory paperwork, bringing benefits to both Canadians and Americans.
In short, the FDA’s overly cautious approach on sunscreens is a lesson in how precaution can be dangerous. By adopting a peer-approval system, we can prevent deadly delays and provide Americans with better sunscreens, effective rapid tests and superior cold medicines. This approach, supported by both sides of the political aisle, can modernize our regulations and ensure that Americans have timely access to the best health products. It’s time to move forward and turn caution into action for the sake of public health and for less risky time in the sun.

Absence during Orientation and First Teaching Week
Hello, I am expecting to be a new international undergraduate student in CEE at NTU. Looking at the Calendar for AY2024/2025, orientation will start at roughly 5th of August, but I have matters in my home country from roughly the end of July till the 18th of August. Will this be a problem for me as I cannot attend the orientation and one week of teaching classes? And also would I need a letter for Leave of Absence, and who exactly would I have to submit it to? Thanks for any help.

2024.05.28 08:32 RepresentativeOk651 John the Baptist (part 2)

”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it. There was a man having been sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the Light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the Light, but he came to bear witness about the Light. There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to what was His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John *bore witness about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has been ahead of me, for He existed before me.’ ” For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he *said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” Therefore, they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.” Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. This One is He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of His sandal.” These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. On the next day, he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who has been ahead of me, for He existed before me.’ I did not know Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing with water.” And John bore witness saying, “I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He abided on Him. And I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘The One upon whom you see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, this is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I myself have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.” On the next day, John again was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” And the two disciples heard him speak and followed Jesus. And when Jesus turned and noticed them following, He *said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” He *said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day. It was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first *found his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. When Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).“ ‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭42‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who has been born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and bear witness of what we have seen, and you do not accept our witness. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? And no one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been done by God.” After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized— for John had not yet been thrown into prison. Therefore there arose a debate between John’s disciples and a Jew about purification. And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have borne witness, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.” John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven. You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent ahead of Him.’ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full. He must increase, but I must decrease. “He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. What He has seen and heard, of that He bears witness; and no one receives His witness. He who has received His witness has set his seal to this, that God is true. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”“ ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭36‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”And Jesus went out from there and *came into His hometown; and His disciples *followed Him. And when the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to this man, and such miracles as these performed by His hands? Is this man not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they were taking offense at Him. And Jesus was saying to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.” And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was marveling at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching. And He *summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and was giving them authority over the unclean spirits; and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only—no bread, no bag, no money in their belt— but to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.” And He was saying to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town. And any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.” And they went out and preached that men should repent. And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them. And King Herod heard it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.” But others were saying, “He is Elijah.” And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” But when Herod heard it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!” For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her. For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” Now Herodias was holding a grudge against him and was wanting to put him to death and was not able; for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he was keeping him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; but he used to enjoy listening to him. And a strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his great men and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee; and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.” And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to half of my kingdom.” And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” And immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” And although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. And immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. And when his disciples heard this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb. And the apostles *gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught. And He *said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.) And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.“ ‭‭Mark‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭32‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”And the disciples of John reported to him about all these things. Summoning two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?” When the men came to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?’ ” At that very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits, and He granted sight to many who were blind. And He answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them. Blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.” And when the messengers of John had left, He began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft garments? Behold, those who are splendidly clothed and live in luxury are found in royal palaces! But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and even more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Your way before You.’ I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” And when all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they acknowledged God’s justice, having been baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and the scholars of the Law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John. “To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children, sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, who say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” Now one of the Pharisees was asking Him to eat with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. And behold, there was a woman in the city who was a sinner. And when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume. And standing behind Him at His feet, crying, she began to wet His feet with her tears. And she kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. Now when the Pharisee, who had invited Him, saw this, he said to himself, saying, “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he replied, “Say it, Teacher.” “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he graciously forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” And turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Then He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” And those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”“ ‭‭Luke‬ ‭7‬:‭18‬-‭50‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”And it happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.” And He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘ Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. ‘Give us each day our daily bread. ‘And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.’ ” Then He said to them, “Which of you has a friend and will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot rise up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not arise and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. But what father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? Or, if his son asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. Now it happened that when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the crowds marveled. But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.” And others, testing Him, were seeking from Him a sign from heaven. But He knew their thoughts and said to them, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls. But if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason, they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed. But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. He who is not with Me is against Me and he who does not gather with Me, scatters. “When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order. Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there, and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.” Now it happened that while Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.” But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Now as the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. The Queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. And behold, something greater than Jonah is here. “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light, but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.” Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have a meal with him. And He went in and reclined at the table. But when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first ceremonially washed before the meal. But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness. You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also? But give that which is within as charity, and then all things are clean for you. “But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and the love of God, but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and the respectful greetings in the marketplaces. Woe to you! For you are like concealed tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it.” Now one of the scholars of the Law answered and said to Him, “Teacher, when You say these things, You insult us too.” But He said, “Woe to you scholars of the Law as well! For you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers. Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but your fathers killed them. So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs. For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute, so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.’ Woe to you, scholars of the Law! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering.” And when He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to question Him closely on many subjects, plotting to catch Him in something He might say.“ ‭‭Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬-‭54‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”Now it happened that when Jesus had finished giving instructions to His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and preach in their cities. Now when John in prison heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the One who is to come, or shall we look for someone else?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: the blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.” Now as these men were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ palaces! But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Your way before You.’ Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call out to the other children, and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.” Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.” At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”“ ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬-‭30‬ ‭LSB‬‬
”At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the news about Jesus, and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.” For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. For John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” And although Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they were regarding John as a prophet. But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod, so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Now having been prompted by her mother, she *said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” And although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths, and because of his dinner guests. And he sent and had John beheaded in the prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. And his disciples came and took away the body and buried it; and they went and reported to Jesus.“ ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭12‬ ‭LSB‬‬

2024.05.28 07:38 Nokt Starting TRT: Seeking Advice on My Protocol

Hey everyone,
I’m scheduled for my first phone consult tomorrow. They will be shipping me out 1ml 200mg Test C and 500 iu hCG.
I’m a late 20s male and have always had lower levels (think low 300s when I was 21), my current total testosterone level is 227 ng/dL and estradiol is at 25 pg/mL.
My plan is to start using the Union Medico for subcutaneous injections, with the following protocol:
This totals to an average of 0.5 ml HCG weekly and 105 mg testosterone cypionate weekly. I’ll be using 1 ml 25g 5/8" Luer-Lok tips for the injections.
Since I plan to be on TRT for life, I want to start low and check my labs at the 6-8 week mark to see where my levels are. I’m opting for subcutaneous injections based on research indicating that, after the initial titration period, the peak-trough fluctuations are less pronounced than with intramuscular injections.
Testosterone Cypionate:
hCG:
I approximated in ChatGPT after asking for web searches on averages and half-life equations not gonna lie but I'm hoping for peak levels and trough levels to be:
Looking for advice or critique here – I realize from reading other posts that about 100mg is the standard weekly dose. I primarily wanted to check in with others to see if anyone thinks that this would be solid way for me to do my doses with the alternating days and if the math checks out for peak-trough. Or if there’s any conflicting opinions to what I have planned.
Unrelated but also, I discovered that I have severe sleep apnea (50+ AHI) and got checked out after being told how loud I snore... Going to be starting CPAP before I start on testosterone, but T is what originally pushed me to investigate it because of how TRT can worsen symptoms. Wondering if anyone here has anecdotal experience, they could share on how things changed once starting CPAP therapy in conjunction with TRT - thanks for reading all this.

2024.05.28 04:16 Idunnoknowdude Another shot in the Dark

Hi,
This is going to sound weird, but I’m going to try and hack the United States’ collective psychology, and I plan on accomplishing that by claiming the right of practical Messiah and holding digital Judgement Day with as many of my fellow humans in attendance as possible. I hope to convince you that I am the man to lead this narrative. Let's work together in the best way possible. Power from Profit to People. Let's make America Awesome.
For the record, I know I’m not God, I'm 100% human, and this is just a convincing, necessary audition for that demanding role. I understand it seems impossible, but hear me out. That's all I expect. A chance to plead my case. This is a plan to meme our way to a more perfect union through a revolutionary chain of awareness, logic, and emotional force, contextualized in a single short essay.
This is a test of American character, a measuring of our capacity for courage, cooperation, and imagination; and it will gauge the number of citizens who are brave enough to help lead our species through the complexity of the modern times we exist in. You have never encountered this much upside in a single decision ever, all of which rests on your ability to imagine a dark future and a darker present as they really are. So who cares about the odds, it's about being beautiful.
As for my qualifications, I’ve spent the past years daydreaming about the best future imaginable; the totality of my dream cannot be communicated in this short essay. But I have the receipts. That's what Judgement Day is for, I can teach the world simultaneously and open my philosophy to weighted debate and criticism. I have the framework in place which distinguishes confidence from arrogance, dream from delusion.
It’s not delusional if there is a legal precedent – as there is here; it’s the Constitution itself. When the government stopped working, the founders came together to rebuild it - we must do so again before our government kills us. The climate crisis really is existential. Emergency situations demand emergency powers; and there is no one else actively auditioning for this role because it is almost unimaginably naive. Our future is existential in nature and certain enough to merit renovating our entire societies. There has to be political will for this, because unless we fix the federal government, life will continue getting worse as the systems we depend on for our existence change radically.
So we destroy it. We know our government is no longer controlled by us, it's sold to the highest bidder. Our government no longer cares about us, the People. It is fundamentally cheaper to bribe congressmen and pack the courts than it is to have an organized, united labor force; so a system driven for profit will chose the cheaper option every time. We live in a system that seems to maximize wealth in accordance with maximizing human suffering. While the economy goes up, our quality of life goes down, as corporate profits rise, living standards fall; after all, our suffering is more profitable than our satisfaction.
Our problems stretch far beyond Donald Trump, although he is an excellent piece of evidence in the America is dying bucket. Exhibit A in our corruption index. Our whole planet, the only one with complex life in the known Universe, is at risk of being destroyed via inaction against polluting corporations and institutions waging information wars on truth and science. We need radically good, radically fast change.
Like our forefathers before us, our institutions and philosophies have reached a critical point of dysfunction, demanding a very specific reaction: a Constitutional Convention. My plan is to go to two to three hundred of the smartest, most accomplished individuals in the world and invite them to this political party digitally. If even a few of them re-post this essay, then the plan it contains becomes too attractive to ignore. Whether my approaches are received at all will depend entirely on the public's reaction to this essay.
So I’m strapping that idea, the biggest hope I know of, and offering it in a single essay, a vehicle that can move faster than a bullet and can be processed by millions simultaneously. Most of humanity lives largely attached to the internet now which reduces the amount of time we need to reach a significant number of citizens online simultaneously. If I am successful, there will be an explosion of interest. If I am unsuccessful, I will simply try again.
If you agree with my principle mission, recreating our government, then share this text with people in your life that you trust, and let’s accelerate the chain reaction of viral cooperation we so desperately need. That is the only action we can take that meaningfully improves our chances of survival, because it's the only known possible system-wide change. No one else is proposing A to Z for the Everything-Crisis in one day because no one else can imagine one that. It is the precise nature of my delusions that renders them attractive, as they are focused on how to structure our new government. No one else is offering one day of your attention and cooperation in exchange for the best government imaginable.
As a freethinking American citizen, I move that we activate Article Five of the Constitution and create a new American government, because our present government has been hijacked by capitalism; and is corrupt beyond repair. Either we choose to reform the United States government from scratch, or we continue to remain powerless against the people who are destroying our government, society, planet; who infuse so much suffering into our present and future; those who currently make all the important decisions. Either we choose the best way forward, or we choose sub-optimally. This proposal attempts to illuminate the best way forward.
I believe that the entire species should to come together online to organize our civilization optimally. The play is Judgement Day and its going on every Tuesday at 4:20 pm CST until we have a working government. Come and help us make the most important experiment ever: recreating the American government and society.
Think of this essay like a flare in the dark, illuminating both the safe path before us and the horde of horrors that bar the way. Run towards the direction I am pointing. Allow me to be your mind's guide. Trust me. The more individuals run towards the flare, the better our odds of survival. So spark your courage and fight for your life against the fears that we must face in the coming decades.
I can only give you one real shot. I can point the way, but I can't give you the courage to move decisively. These steps I outlined, as grandiose as they are, are fitting and necessary to avert the collapse of our civilization in the coming decades. We are on course for a apocalyptic chain reaction of catastrophes – catastrophes that were brought about by massive, orchestrated disinformation campaigns – and no one else is publicly attempting to bring together the globe together into a single cohesive entity to recreate our social contract. No one else is steering you towards the only way we make it out alive.
I expect my government’s forces and agencies to be committed to the survival of our species. We cannot allow the polycrisis situation we find ourselves in today to overwhelm us, or to dissuade us from our foundational ideals. This is a nation by, for, and of the People, let's make it so once again.

2024.05.28 00:40 Jabroniville2 What Are the Backstage Mechanics of "Mickey's Magical Friendship Faire"?

I'm always curious about this one. The show has sort of become my "Happy Place" at MK and I see it as many times as possible each day I'm there (getting in for the early ones because there's always some sort of calamity cancelling later ones). But I'm curious as to how some of the stuff works behind the scenes (the planning, not the literal mechanics). This is a bit long because I'm neurotic about it, but please indulge me, lol:
Some Questions: 1) How many people do they have "in reserve" to cover for others? I definitely notice people swap out during the day- sometimes you'll even see a different person playing certain "Speaking" roles. But the dancers ESPECIALLY swap out often, and some you see nearly every day while others only do one show. I have to imagine if nobody can do a Face/Head role they just cancel the whole thing ("Unforeseen circumstances").
2) How many people can do each role? I know I've seen 3-4 "friends of Elsa" just across one week, 3 Vladamirs, etc. One time I was there I met the family of Elsa, who said she had to take a second job just to do this (working as the queen at Medieval Times), and she only worked the one Saturday across the entire week. I assume there's regulars who hold onto those spots like nuts (I saw one Elsa there most of one week- the same Anna did 4/6 days I was there this last trip).
3) Why do the "Male Dancing Role" jobs swap out so much? I swear every show I saw one day, a different guy was doing the tapdancing part of Tiana's bit, and a different guy was doing the "Backflips" in the Rapunzel bit. Is it the heat?
4) Who determines the choreography and do different performers do different things? I noticed in 2022 the final dance number ALWAYS had Vladamir & Hook-Hand compete over who got to dance with Elsa, who was like "oh sorry I promised Olaf" and danced with him first (before swapping to one of the male backgrounders). In 2024 I only saw this done once, and every other time they just kinda did their own thing and ignored Elsa entirely.
Similarly, Anna sometimes sticks her tongue out to catch the "snow" and sometimes she doesn't, and the backflips the guy does in the "Rapunzel" bit are often very different (probably based off of how he feels in the moment). Naveen's "and JAZZ!" gesture is sometimes big and dramatic and sometimes a simple point.
5) Why do the dancers alternate "spots" so frequently? I noticed that oftentimes a dancer will be the first one to greet Mickey at the opening for a couple shows, then switch to a different spot on a later show (you'll see them on a parapet one show, then at the front of the stage the next). It seems clear there's no "set spot" for a particular dancer and they just kinda do everything.
6) Do the male background dancers also do the "Pub Thug" roles? I often don't check closely enough to see through their costumes, but I definitely notice the VERY tall male dancers do not take other roles during the show, as the Pub Thugs are nearly always smaller than Hook Hand & Vladamir are (Vladamir is always a big, burly dude).
7) Have the performers been instructed not to "wave" as much to the audience? I recall in 2022 they were almost CONSTANTLY waving to the kids and adults who waved at them at nearly every break in the pre-set choreography, but in 2024 this was far diminished. They still DID IT, but not as much. That show I watched with Elsa's parents had the most prominent example, as she was doing the "heart with her hands" thing at them and then to me once the parents told her how much of an Elsa fan I was, lol.
8) Is it me, or is Olaf now getting by far the biggest crowd reaction? It used to be Anna & Elsa sending the crowd into a frenzy, but now it's Olaf getting the big one. Elsa SOMETIMES gets a really big one, but 10-11 years later, it seems like "Let It Go" is finally not drawing the freak-outs it once did, lol.
In my time, I've noticed: * The early-morning crew coming out 15-20 minutes to show opening, testing the "Elsa Effects" (shooting "steam" and snoap)- it's always two guys observing this, and then one dancer comes out to check the stage (sometimes even picking up debris). According to CMs at the castle, the dancer represents "Equity", the dancer's union, and can and will cancel the show (she once went out and went "NOPE" when she saw the rain hitting the stage). It was the same woman nearly every day between May 5-17, but one day a different one was out.
* If anything goes wrong, they'll just bolt backstage. One time Hook Hand started talking and nothing came out over the PA- he shrugged, did a little "leap and click his heels together" and everyone ran backstage- after a short delay the "Frozen" bit happened and they ran the show as normal. Once they bolted as soon as the rain started- I was told that Mickey in particular has such an expensive costume they will NOT allow that to get wet.
* At least one show per day nearly ALWAYS gets cancelled- usually it's the rain, but sometimes they just say "Unforeseen Circumstances".
* The fireworks are primed before the shows regardless unless it's actively raining- this is why they seem to "celebrate" the cancellation of the show by firing a ton of fireworks after they announce it's been cancelled.

2024.05.28 00:21 KingFacef2 Local 58

I’m a 4th punch apprentice non union. Been trying to organize in for a while. Those of you part of 58 probably know Bear. He told me with my hours it wont matter if i passed my aptitude test or not. Anyone organize in as a accelerated apprentice as he called it? If so what was the process? From how it was explained to me, he said i don’t ha e to go through the school and that he just needs to find me a sponsor then i will be in the union. At this point i’m about ready to just say fuck it and organize in as a Jman in less than a year and take the JW test to be licensed through the union as well.

2024.05.27 23:34 ELS314STL The Discovery, Finale

Galactic Triumvirate Senate Meeting, 33rd Day of Kwa'Kysh, 258th year of The 78th Millennium
Grand Presider K'twor'Thoth Vi-Shni'shelsh took the podium, as they have numerous times, but still feeling as if it was the first. As per hir culture, they raised a yellow flag to silence the cavernous room, and bowed slightly once the requested silence came.
Hir activated the Senate holodisplays, "My fellow beings, I bid greetings. I shan't waste time and simply get to the point of the matter I've called you here." Vi knew it wasn't common to call a full Senate meeting during a holiday week, but this was not common. "I received word from our Solarian neighbors, and they've noted that after nearly two centuries, the indigenous races, all former slaves of The Hive, have reached a point where they can interact with the larger galactic community. The Humans have set up a unified democratic government for these races to take power over themselves. Within a standard week, The Allied Confederation of Spheres will be open to any diplomatic overtures, trade, and travel in their space. The D'Luti Republic has already recognized The Confederation, and I received word that The Synth Union, The Federated Republics, and The Federated Technocracy of Sol have followed this example. As of the commencement of this meeting, our own Triumvirate has done the same."
Murmurs of approval filled the room, and Vi allowed it. Ever since The Hive-Imperium War, no one has entered Hive Space except Humans. They've shared reports and updates on the recovery efforts they alone took on, as well as the construction of a "Dyson Sphere" for the E'Tor. After The Imperium Reformation, when The D'Luti Republic officially replaced The Imperium, The Republic was the loudest supporter of The FedTech and their efforts in old Hive Space. Human technology made the efforts they undertook seem like no effort or harm to their society. This was especially true once they set up their gigantic hyperspace gate, the size of a small moon! And their traffic flowed nonstop since.
It will be strange when it's gone. Humans promised to vacate the region once they finished their work, Vi knew this. The gate sat just inside now Confederation space, and Vi had gone to see it as a child, and marveled any one race could build such a thing. Even from half a million units, it was still impressive. Now, as an adult, Vi believed that was the point the Humans were making. A reminder not to test them, and leave them be. Which was understandable after the war, when FedTech representatives all but pushed The Coalition out of Hive and Imperium space. Five years later, The Imperium reemerged as The Republic, and with a message from The Federated Technocracy of Sol, "Stay away."
Everyone knew what it meant when sensor blocks went online in Occupied Hive Space, "This is not for your eyes." And it made sense. They would have unleashed the full power of their technologies, and one can only imagine what that was.
The murmurs died out on their own, and Vi continued, "The Federated Technocracy of Sol has one alert for all who come into Confederation space, and one that I had to verify from The FedTech Ambassador. It is as follows, "Don't seek The E'Tor Sphere, it has been moved to The Core Sectors of Federated space. Know that they are secure in their Sphere, safe, allowed to exist as they see fit, and under our protection and guardianship."
At this, the chamber erupted, and Vi knew that it will take some time to get back to civility. "I really dislike those people," hir thought to themself.

E'Tor Sphere, The Federated Technocracy of Sol, Sector 4 November 2nd, 4987UC
Governor Alan Turing looked over the monthly reports from The E'Tor Sphere Monitoring System, impressed with how well these people took to being cut off from the galaxy. They were so xenophobic that they'd rather never leave this prison than have to meet another species. Alan never really understood organics, but then he didn't need to. "They are who they are, and we are who we are" was the ancient quote from Beta-10, the first true AI, and the one who pioneered Synth Rights. Still, The E'Tor were different from all the other organics he knew of. Such a vibrant and deeply beautiful culture, if you ignored the slavery, genocide, and eugenics they used against the races they once ruled over. Still, he was pleased he could continue to monitor them after the war. He felt close to them after getting into their datanets. Not enough to counter his morals or ethics, they were still monsters. But enough that he could understand their point of view, even if he disagreed with it.
Maybe, one day, they'll change and be ready to be part of the galaxy again. He hoped he was still around to see it.
Until then, here they'll stay, safe and secure. Even if they somehow got out of their sphere, there was no way they were getting past The Defense Grid. The whole thing was powered by 6 artificial quasars, with a thousand meter sized weapons platform every one hundred kilometers. Even the Ceres wouldn't make it through that, and no other known ships comes close to the power that thing wields!
Still...maybe. One day they will be ready to peacefully join.
A synth can hope.

2024.05.27 21:44 William_Johns0n Will the humans ever rebuild or build themselves up at all?

So ever since this story started we’ve had many losses. The main character lost his arm, Braginte and many others died, Alio was captured and even if he comes back which I don’t know if he’ll be at the same state, his fairy killed itself. The king was killed as well as a couple unnamed people and the humans all lost their first base along with a satellite.
So I’m wondering if this story is just gonna be who can stay alive the longest between the humans and all the natural enemies like an endurance test because it doesn’t seem like the humans have formally unionized and rebuilt using all their strength and knowledge like we had hoped yet. Obviously this story has just started and most likely that’s gonna happen but this story feels like it’s not giving the humans any time to rebuild and combine their strengths together.
But if they do like I hope then there are a number of technologies we have. First off we have magic I’m sure that can be mixed in with technology. Secondly we have the machine world and the cosmic world. Thirdly we have the strengths of the humans from the giants world. Thirdly we have the ancient artifact from the cursed destruction world which I hope we’ll be able to replicate and build upon it. And then every other world is pretty negligible in terms of what they can offer, maybe some pills or an umbrella gun, I guess revitalization juice maybe we’ll be able to mass harvest it. Hopefully the game world may offer some prizes if they win the games.
