2024.05.29 01:15 loinmin MSN News GameRant (CLICKBAIT MISINFORMED MONEY HUNGRY FOOLS)

So, I turn on my PC... MSN News (HOMEPAGE) pops up and I see this gaming news article about fo3 being played on a CRT.
I thought, oh that is pretty cool, only to find out by looking at the photo, this is Fallout 76 running on the CRT.
ARE THESE ARTICLES WRITTEN BY SOME FOOL OR AN ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE?
I ask myself this because NEITHER of the news articles know what game is being displayed on the CRT.
I guess the Initial Source #1 is an MSN News "Friendly" version of the GameRant original news article from Source #2 but Source #2 mentions it is Fallout 4 and Source #1 says it's Fallout 3... what the... f***?
if you do not know the game/topic you are discussing, just don't release an article at all.
GAME RANT MUST HAVE NEEDED SOME MONEY AND CLICKS THAT DAY CAUSE THAT WAS SOME HALF ASSED SHIT IF I EVER SEEN ONE, OH MY GOD.
I tried posting a comment on the 'MSN News Page' and it is worse than an entitled reddit moderator, it filters the shit out of what you can and cannot say.
what is funny is I guess the original post on GameRant thought it was Fallout 3. https://gamerant.com/fallout-3-running-old-crt-monito this will now redirect to the updated URL from Source #2.
someone tried to correct them in the comments on GameRant, the Author believed it and halfass changed the text Fallout 3 to Fallout 4 while the original post is on MSN News.
HOW UNRELIABLE. CHECK YOUR SOURCES.

2024.05.28 21:55 altiif YouTube main page has all small previews of movies on Google Chrome

Out of nowhere, my YouTube homepage has went from showing 3 good sized images of videos per row to now showing 4 smaller sized images with a column of black/dead space between the left navigation bar and where the 1st video of each row starts. I haven't changed any settings and no clue why this happened and how to revert to the old way because I don't subscribe to much and this is causing way too much clutter.

2024.05.28 11:43 DriveSafe57 Help needed for a gift

Hello everyone, I'd like to buy a new Samsung to my father, I saw some models such as: A35 and A55 but I think their display is too big for him. I then noticed the galaxy xcover5, its display is not too big and it can(theoretically) handle working conditions better than other phones. Do u have any suggestions for a low price compact phone? He mainly uses it as 60yrs old uses his phone, so: scrolling down the homepage of Facebook, checking match results on the Web, playing spider and so on. Also a good battery capacity is well appreciated Thanks for any possible answer

2024.05.28 10:20 Theonewatches Comparison of the genuine 3235 movement with the VS3235 and VR 3235

Comparison of the genuine 3235 movement with the VS3235 and VR 3235
Hi everyone, I am Steve, recently some friends feedback that our comparison posts on Reddit are no longer visible.ļ¼ˆ(Because they were filteredļ¼‰. in order to make it easier for you to view them at any time, so I will continue to re-post all of our comparison posts once . When you need to check them out, just go to my homepage and look for them.
Mainplate view
Gen Rolex 3235 movement was launched in 2015, although the main structure was improved from the 3135 movement, 90% of the components have been upgraded and optimised. VS3235 is same as GEN.
The mainplate of the VR3235 is same as that of the VR3135, there is a certain difference with GEN, old wine in new bottle, there is still a shock absorber less than GEN.
Both VS and VR have engraved movement codes on the mainplate, VS looks not deep enough, while there is a black coating of VR on the engraved area to make it look clear, in my opinion, thatā€™s a backfire
Calendar Wheel
For calendar wheel structure, VS is same as GEN, VR uses same calendar wheel of 3135. Just from the mainplate and the calendar wheel, we could see clearly that the overall structure of VR3235 is still the VR3135, there are no many changes. VS3235 is the real mold reproduction of the genuine 3235.
Automatic Rotor
The GEN 3235 movement has upgraded from the pin bearing of the 3135 movement to the ball bearing, which greatly improves the winding efficiency of the movement (the 4130 movement is also ball bearing).
VS and VR improve this part as well, but there are only 7 balls in inner grooves. The inner grooves of GEN are all filled with balls.
Automatic winding mechanism
We can see that the automatic reverse wheel of 3235 movement is made of all brass, and the red coating treatment of the 3135 movement has been removed (hereby I checked the information, the automatic reverse wheel of 3135 movement is made of aluminum alloy.
Aluminum should be coated to increase wear resistance as it is relatively soft, while it is unnecessary to coating of brass.)
The automatic winding mechanism of VS and VR is consistent with GEN, and VR has one ruby less on the bearing of the reduction wheel than GEN.
balance wheel mechanism
The biggest difference of balance wheel mechanism is that there are calibration bulges of replica 3235. We have mentioned this in comparison post of 3135 movement, you friend can see there if donā€™t clear.
Here we talk about the shock absorber, GEN uses the paraflex shock absorber, compare with the KIF absorber of 3135, it is said that the stability of paraflex is 50% higher. VS3235 and VR3235 are not sloppy, they also use the shock absorber with the same appearance as GEN.
Escapement fork plate, escapement fork and escapement wheel
The escapement wheel of GEN 3235 has also been optimized, changing from the stainless steel material of 3135 to a lighter nickel-phosphorus alloy.
At the same time, the shape has been hollowed out, including the outer gears have also changed significantly.
Both VS and VR use the escapement wheel of their own 3135 movement, there are still some differences in appearance from GEN.
Wheels Clamp
There is also a shock absorber less from the wheels clamp of VR than GEN. This shock absorber is connected to the top of escapement wheel. The missing shock absorber on the mainplate of VR is connected to the bottom of escapement wheel.
Same as VR3135, there are two less shock absorbers of VR3235 than GEN.
Drive wheels (2, 3, 4 wheels) and second wheel plate
For the wheel system, the layout of GEN 3235 movement is different from 3135, the second wheel and the 2nd wheel are overlapped and on the same central axis, which is more advanced. For the structure of wheel layout, VS and VR are same as GEN.
There is little difference in VR on parts. The third wheel of VR3235 is same as VR3135, the center gear is different from GEN, and the second wheel plate is also different.
https://preview.redd.it/98lnalqvf43d1.jpg?width=3980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2eb897f5313e9734521e70a1a689995ec32cef45
Instant-jump calendar mechanism
The Instant-jump structure of GEN 3235 has been changed to an integrated one, it is simplified and more stronger, 3135 is a split structure. VS is consistent with GEN, VR still uses the 3135 instant-jump calendar component.
Manual calendar mechanism
The four wheels of VR3235 are also same as VR3135. The top of the four wheels of GEN 3235 has been changed to four gears, and a toggle part is linked below.
Crown Shank Shaft
The structure of the shank shaft of VS is same as GEN, and the VR is slightly different.
Clockwork plates
The engraved lettering on clockwork plates of VS are very clear and meticulous, although there are some differences in color.
For lettering ā€œADJā€ includes the letters behind, VS and VR are different with GEN in order, because there are slightly adjustments on engraving of GEN movement in different age.
Vertical and clutch wheels
The vertical wheel and clutch wheel of VR3235 are also same as VR3135, while for GEN, the occlusal position of vertical wheel and clutch wheel has changed from bevel occlusal to gear occlusal.
Well, for the following components, we would not compare one by one, you friends could compare them via photos below if interested in.
VS is consistent with GEN basically. Many parts of VR are still same as VR3135 components, so some parts of VR are not same as GEN or even missing. I will not upload pictures of some extra parts of VR.
Clockwork Box态Large Steel Wheels态Clockwork wheel
Over wheel of clockwork wheel态Over wheel of friction minute wheel态Hour wheel态Centre date wheel态Intermediate wheel
Hands wheel presses态Setting bolt态Pole spring态Cover态Stop second spring plate
Screws
Okay, above are the comparison photos of other accessories.
Note: The VR3235 movement in the comparison is the old version, recently CF equipped with the latest VR3235 movement (the picture below is the latest), the power reserve has been increased to 70 hours, The two outer stakes above the balance are the same as in the DD3285, and no more fake stakes have been made to imitate Gen. Chronometer engraving has been added to the automatic Rotor

This is a crossover fanfiction between original fiction titles: Nature of Predators by SpacePaladin15 and The Last Angel by Proximal Flame respectively. All credit and rights reserved goes to them for making such amazing science fiction settings that I wanted to put this together.
You can read The Last Angel here: Be warned, it's decently long, and at its third installment so far. I highly suggest reading it before reading this, or this story will not make sense.
Otherwise, enjoy the story! Thanks again to u/jesterra54 and u/skais01 for beta and checking of work!

I had a number of analysts, computer engineers, and website developers on hand to discuss the upcoming visitor to Earth. While a good portion of humanity was shifty about the concept of an AI, I could hardly care less for their opinion. Humanity First would welcome its wayward protector back home with open arms. They deserve nothing less.
And so, I found myself in various conversations with said experts on how we could welcome an AI most effectively. While there already was plans to broadcast a hearty greeting to Nemesis from humanity in general, I'd like a personal good first impression from our group in particular to Red One. She needed to know that, despite the fact there were some luddites who would despise her for no good reason, she would always supported by us. There were ideas of asking Google to stylize their homepage in response to her, giving her a friendly letter to read in thanks for defending Earth. I already asked various political leaders around the world to pitch in to the letter though some new party members in said countries.
Speaking of which! Humanity First was rapidly becoming an international political party. Hard not to when aliens slaughter humanity wholesale. We were rightfully angry, and we would be heard. My patronage and endorsement got them off the ground running effectively, and they turned to me for basic planning on a large scale.
I kept down some of the more rowdy elements, however. There were supposedly plans to bomb the U.N. Remembrance on Venlil Prime by a radical element. Thankfully, I was able to get some refugee sympathizers to talk him down. Killing our own would solve nothing. The U.N. might not be aimed the right way currently, but as long as we work patiently, and don't do something as stupid as bombing a public speech, or announcing open rebellion, we ought to sway them far more to our proper way of thinking.
I wonder what she thinks of us, however. I am aware of the roughly nine-thousand dead in orbit by Nemesis' guns, and nothing has yet been stated as to why. I can only hope it was some mistake, and not a trend of things to come. Maybe I could try and help pay off the affected families, settle their dues?
There were also some of our number who applied for the de-facto exchange program planned with Red One. While we didn't know if any would get in currently, hopefully at least one would, and even if not, there were likely more sympathizers in the woodwork that would get in. We'd just have to probe some through the candidates. I'd have to bribe for a listing once they're selected to be sure.
A lot of work had to be done, if we wanted to use her help to bring proper justice to the aliens that marred our home so immensely. That burned our people in antimatter. We would not stand for it, and I was hoping Red One wouldn't either.
My attention turned back from internal monologue towards the multi-call on hand"...so if we change this website element here, we can get a political ad set aside. I'm not certain if this AI will see GUI like humans do, but I'm not gonna just go write a raw text manifesto in the HTML for them. The cost per thousand..." I droned back out again, the terminology being discussed between the group out of my wheelhouse besides asking my personal touch. They knew what they were doing, and if I heard my name called, I'd get a re-brief on the relevant bits.
I turned my chair to look out the window again. While I could still feel the somber mood in the air over London, it at least wasn't capitalized by another suicide I could see. Hopefully, we could heal from the loss, and be all the stronger for it. We would not let the Federation succeed in murdering more of us by proxy of despair, if I could so help it.
Maybe I should have some fliers put out for a checkup on mental health? Humanity First, while still not known as a majority party anywhere, we were widespread enough. Might as well tie some more goodwill to the name. If we want real change, we need hearts and minds; the healthier, the better, and even more so if in our title.
I took a note down to look into mass counseling resources. Maybe a motivational talk on stage somewhere, or celebrity outreach? I'd discuss it with some old political PR friends.
Agh, ow, ow ow ow, back's acting up again.
I reached for a painkiller bottle on my desk, and popped down two. Sweet relief came not long after, the hazards of old age melting away to the comforts of modern chair design. Being nearly eighty nine was a literal pain. I can't imagine how Nemesis feels, being twelve-hundred-something and riddled with more holes than Swiss cheese.
A chuckle came to my lips at the internal joke, before I forced myself back into watching the video call. I was neglecting context, and I ought to try and get back in gear if I'm going to make the welcome home party a worthwhile effort.
She deserves it after all. Who wouldn't, for all her hard work?
Memory transcription subject: Hailey Whitmer, UN Special Envoy
Date [standardized human time]: October 24, 2136
The Snow Hidden trailed the convoy, not at the front, but definitely in front of Nemesis. Despite her gratuitous mass, she still was still heading to Earth at increasing velocity every moment. In fact, Earth could effectively be seen from here. A pale blue dot, drifting amongst the black of space. Not visible currently to the native eye, no, but to a ship's far more precise sensors, absolutely. It was for this that I started to feel concern for Red One's arrival.
Would she be accepted by enough? While there were likely kindred souls as my own, caring for our wayward AI, I also knew Earth held no shortage of people afraid and cautious of AI as a principle. Would she be safe from their judgement, vulnerable as she is?
What was she feeling, as we approached? Dread? Fear? Hope? I wasn't sure, Red was a complicated bag of emotions wrapped up in a form I had no idea how to truly empathize with. It wasn't like talking to a war veteran of the Satellite Wars, no, she was a warship. She likely had no other prerogative in her function beyond that of war.
Could she be more? Could she change, if she so wished?
It was for that reason I began to open a channel to Red. Only one way to find out what she was thinking, and that was to ask. As I waited for the confirmation of communication, I scanned about looking for Lithke.
He was clearly not at the bridge, likely in quarters currently. Whether he needed sleep or privacy I didn't know, but all I did know is that he did not want coffee. I was flabbergasted; not wanting coffee, on an all-night trip like this!? It would even keep him up to talk with Red more, as he kept denying wanting to do! But of course, no plant products, it would be downright dangerous to Arxur likely, obligate carnivores they are.
There wasn't some sort of...meat coffee they had, maybe? I...can't really picture him drinking anything, can I?
My odd track of thought was interrupted by Red's transmission request being received. She was fine to talk. I opened the hail.
"Hiya Red. How are you currently? No sudden issues with the trip or yourself?"
"Hello Hailey. No, my systems, while damaged, are managing fine enough so far. The fastening processes of the freighters are still holding. I'm more surprised they can continue full burn so long at this strain."
I sipped my mug. "Well, I don't mean to brag about our Venlil allies, but cargo freighters engines are some of the best of the line! Comes with being the largest ships by mass in the galaxy; you need quality engineering. They've had spaceflight far longer than us, and it shows."
"Quite. The power draw for this isn't too taxing, I hope? I figured fuel would likely run dry at some point, even as sizeable stores they might have."
I was somewhat taken aback by this. "Run out? Well, I guess it's technically possible, sure, if you run out of conversion or torch exhaust mass, but antimatter reactors are as efficient as it gets! The power source on those babies will last longer than I would given proper maintenance."
There was a sudden stall in the conversation, a pause before Red responded: "Antimatter reactors? Where are you getting that much antimatter from? Mass-producing it is not a simple thing."
"I'm...uh, not an engineer, but if I recall...there's a process, or machine maybe, that can just casually...flip...the charges in particles. The science is beyond me, don't ask."
That she didn't know this-wait...
"Wait, what are you using for reactors?"
Red One was quick to clarify. "Minuette Cold Fusion Tower Reactors for backup, and a Breach Core for primary power. I'm not certain if the latter is known in your sciences, based on what I've seen and heard so far."
Wait, wasn't cold fusion thought to be a bust? Would have to ask a scientist about that...
"I would have to agree with you. I have no idea what a 'Breach Core' is, and I don't recall cold fusion ever being considered a reasonable option in my time."
"I have plenty I need to ask your scientists and engineers once we arrive. I am not familiar with a good portion of the technology and capabilities on display here, beyond the practical usage."
About that...
"Red...I wanted to ask you something, slightly off-topic." I queried her. When she gave the go ahead, I continued. "I know you're likely nervous about being almost to Earth. Did...you wanna talk about it any? Get things off your chest?"
Red One was silent for far longer than normal at that. Eventually however, she did respond.
"Earth was dead. Sol itself, silent and banal. I dreaded that silence upon every visit back here. No matter the purpose, no matter how familiar I was with the unchanging quietude, it was uncomfortable. And yet, now that I hear the Earth buzzing again with life, I feel even more oddly uncomfortable. Am I wrong to feel that?"
I wasn't a therapist. But God forbid if I didn't want to try and alleviate her fears.
"I don't think so, Red. Anyone would be utterly uncomfortable with such a paradigm shift as entering a parallel universe, where humanity is alive after being dead for millennia. To feel oddly at that is normal, Red."
"I am not meant to feel in the first place, Hailey. I am an AI that wasn't designed with the capability for feeling in the first place. That it even happened was a fluke, but one I deal with nevertheless."
"I don't see how that's relevant, Red."
"Then let me skip to the point. Regardless of whether it's okay to feel nervous and uncomfortable at Earth's approach, does that make it any better than I do? Will humanity see an AI that has broken its own prerogatives, such as killing the very race it was meant to protect, and breaking its very design specifications and controls to feel, and think to treat it as a danger, or as a person, in your words?"
Uh. I am not qualified to talk about this conversation.
"I...I don't know, Red...while I'd love to try and help you, I have no idea how to unpack the thoughts of an AI. You likely, if anything, need a therapist ASAP if you're feeling this much crippling anxiety over your own existence."
Red One seemed almost offended in her tone by that statement. "I do not need a therapist, Hailey. I am a warship, not a human."
"A warship that feels emotions they're not supposed to, in her own words." I countered. "Look, most people nowadays have easy access to a therapist if needed. Medical care, including mental health, is standardized worldwide. After the initial whirlwind of arrival, maybe take my advice to heart? It couldn't hurt just to try?"
"...We're almost there. I'd suggest we drop the line for now. We're likely to be flooded with communication soon." She reminded me.
Don't think I don't notice you dodging an answer, Red!
...But, she was right. Earth was at most two hours away now, and we would be swarmed with communication out the ass soon despite the distance. What remained of Earth's fleet and Venlil Space Corps would likely rendezvous with us on the way, while Isif's fleet kept Earth safe.
"Fine. We'll talk about this later Red, but for now, just face the music and hope for the best. I'm sure humanity will care for you regardless, if you explain yourself as you did to me."
"Nemesis out." With that, the call ended, and I was left alone again in the front, with a cup of coffee that was slightly less warm than before. I likely had to make several hundred conversations in the upcoming hours.
Only have to be an envoy for a sapient warship to the entirety of humanity. Yep, just an easy thing to do, no sweat.
I dreaded the workload, but thankfully, coffee always had my back. I took a sip, and I just realized I tried to therapy said warship.
...I am so far in over my head.
+CONFED IO.5+
+READING MAIN SEQ.MEM+
There it was. Earth.
It was a mere 15 light minutes away, I could see Earth in stunning detail. Both its beauty...and its recent scars.
I delved into old records of geography, of city placements, matching the scorched pockmarks on the surface I could see to locations. If new cities hadn't been established at some of the other bombing sites, then most of these were targeted at population-dense cities.
At least sixty prior city locations could be seen from this angle of Earth. I hadn't gotten a number for how many died in the bombings from Hailey, with her not electing to tell me, and me not thinking to ask at the moment. But if population records were anything akin to UEC numbers...
Somewhere upwards of 670 million.
A burning rage emanated from my circuits again. The Federation would pay. None would dare touch humanity, when I'm done with them.
I could still see the massive scattering of scrap and disabled ships between the Moon and Earth from here. I had killed a lot of ships, and they neither had the time nor the power currently to remove most of it.
It did give me an idea however. I'll bring it up with their leadership.
And speaking of leadership, a medium sized-convoy of ships was burning their way to meet us, it seems. It must look awkward for me to be accelerating at them backwards, but with my configuration, this was my slowdown method. I recognized the group as mostly consisting of the human ships, with a few Venlil ships interspersed in the mix. Most did not break 200 meters in size, with only a few even looking remotely impressive or odd. I checked the IFF tags they beamed.
Amatzukaze-Kai, Shepherd, Duncan, Hera, Mokshi, Deep End, Holy...
The Venlil also had a separate batch of tags. Conveniently, they were translated in English.
Swiftwind, Solgalick's Glow, Emerald Fields, Stone of Old, Unfleeing, Cleansing Flame...
But the names mattered little compared to the hail that came next. A professional male voice emanated over the line:
"Welcome, UECNS Nemesis. This is the UNSS Gunboat Diplomacy speaking. I am U.N. General MƭngzƩ Zhao, a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise, General MƭngzƩ Zhao. My designation is Red One. My sincere thanks for the help on returning to Earth."
"We can talk about that later. In the meantime, I'd suggest, if possible, to turn your attention to Earth. They'd like to thank you too, for your assistance."
Curious, I turned my attention to the slightly faint signals of Earth. From them, came a sudden gathering of voices, diverse and nearly countless in number.
"Thank you, Nemesis!"
"Thank you for saving Earth!"
"We deeply appreciate your timely help."
"Our family lives because of you. Thank you..."
"We love you!"
It was...not expected. When I went to Earth, I expected no fanfare, but instead a harsh judgement. To hear Hailey's intuition be right, that humanity was not unanimously angry and vengeful to my actions, was...was...
+node k.7 overheating, redirecting coolant+
"Thank you. Thank you for believing in me." I beamed back. Whether they could all hear it did not matter. They eventually would.
However, behind the buzz of positivity, I could still hear the lobbing of vitriol and fear my way. This was all too familiar. But...for once, to have it be the minority?
It was a good start.

2024.05.26 23:36 IvyRoney A Guide to Supplementing Your Income for Students

Posted this last year and a lot of people seemed to find it quite helpful so I thought I'd share it again.
I've frequented this sub for some time and something that inevitably comes up time and again is the financial struggle of being a student. So basically what I've done is expanded on all the ways one can earn extra money in the UK, and also separated them by category. This list is based on my own experience of using various online sites and methods to supplement my own income over the past years, and I'm hoping that it will be relevant and helpful to many people in this community.
As always, the best advice for someone who needs more income is probably to get a job or to work towards a promotion, however, these things can also take quite a long time to achieve.
This list is for people who are looking for ways to supplement their income right now, and who would benefit from having a little extra each month to tide them over until their situation improves.
Anyway, Here is the list:

Testing:

(1) Usertesting:
With this site, you test out the usability of apps and websites and get paid for it. Many of the tests only take 10 minutes and pay around Ā£8.50 per, which is really good. Of course, you won't qualify for every test you apply to, but even if you apply to 10 and only qualify for 1, you're still going to be earning around Ā£8.50 for that half hour of your time, as it only takes a minute or two to apply for each test. There are also longer tests you can apply for, which pay much more.
Your work consists of interacting with 'prototype' or ā€˜in productionā€™ websites or mobile apps while speaking out loud to share your thoughts, emotions, criticisms, and suggestions. For the longer tests, you will sometimes have to video call with someone while you are completing the user test, which may sound a little offputting at first, but you'll find that this actually makes the hour go much faster than if you were doing an hour of shorter tests.
(2) Userlytics:
Like with Usertesting, you are getting paid for your feedback as you test out the usability of apps and websites. Again, you will have to have your microphone (and sometimes video) enabled while you share your impressions of the video, website, prototype, app, etc. that you are testing.
This site also pays quite well for the time you need to put in per test. Typically, the shorter tests pay around Ā£4-Ā£8, while longer tests can pay up to around Ā£70, though qualifying for these is not a common occurrence in my experience.
It's important to note, that with this site and all testing sites, different people will qualify for different tests based on the answers they give in the screeners, which determine if you are a suitable candidate for the test you're applying for. With this in mind, my advice is to stay determined and keep applying, because you never really know when you'll be the perfect candidate for a test, and sometimes the test you're a perfect fit for will be one of the highest paying.
(3) Intellizoom:
This site is very similar to the others in that you are being paid for your feedback. It contains "Think out Loud" studies which require you to talk as you complete various tasks. Like with the other testing sites, what you earn will depend on what studies you're a match for. This site doesn't have quite as high an earning potential as other testing sites, with studies that require you to record video and audio usually paying around Ā£8.50, and standard studies paying around Ā£1.50.
(4) Testingtime:
Again, with Testingtime, you're being compensated for testing apps, websites and other products. Your value as a tester comes from the fact that you're helping to influence the development of future products and services.
(5) Utest:
This isn't a site I see mentioned too often. It's essentially the same as the others in that you'll be matched with testing projects based on the information you've entered on your profile. The majority of projects involve functional testing, where testers use an app or website and look out for bugs and issues.

Projects & Tasks:

(1) Teemwork:
A crowd-sourcing site where you can complete various jobs and tasks. There is a great variety of jobs available, with tasks such as translation, evaluation, and video/audio collection showing up frequently. It would take a long time to list the all various tasks that appear on this site, as there really is a varied amount of work available on a daily basis.
This site pays very well for the time you put in, with many tasks paying Ā£25-Ā£30 for less than an hour of your time. When you first sign up, you may not see a huge amount of jobs available, but I would recommend checking back as often as you can, as some days there is a lot more available work than others. This site also pays out to Paypal.
(2) Appen:
This is a site where you can apply to work on various projects online, including social media evaluation, translation, data collection, surveys, paid conversation and many more. The rate of pay is very competitive, with some jobs paying up to Ā£20 per hour. Most jobs pay around Ā£11-Ā£15 per hour (which is still great for online work) and I have not found it difficult to qualify for projects.
The potential earnings from this site over the course of a year can easily enter the Ā£100s or even Ā£1000s, so if it's not on your radar it really should be.
Apply for as many projects/tasks as you can, it's well worth taking the time to apply because even if you get one project, that can be hours of work at a great hourly rate.
(3) Clickworker:
Like others listed, Clickworker is a 'task for pay' site. Very similar to Neevo in that the tasks you perform are used to help train AI.
There's a decent variety of tasks available, my favourite being voice recordings of various sentences and phrases. There are also many tasks that revolve around taking photos of random things. The payment is fast and reliable and uses Paypal, never had any problems with these guys.
My advice is to get onto the UHRS section of the site to earn more money, there's a banner at the top of your jobs section which you can click to qualify for UHRS. You'll need to do a sort of exam to qualify, but it's mostly just a test of your English comprehension skills as far as I remember.
(4) Neevo:
Companies submit projects to Neevo to help improve their AI systems. When youā€™re a match for a project, youā€™ll be asked to complete a set of simple tasks, which could be in the form of text, audio, images or even video.
It's a straightforward 'task for pay' site. They payout through Paypal and the variety of jobs is good. I check this site every now and then, I know it's a smaller earner so I don't like to give it too much of my time. My advice would be to keep your eyes peeled for higher paying jobs that come along, Some of the lower paying tasks aren't really worth it for the time you need to put in.

Studies & Research:

(1) Prolific:
This is definitely one of the top paid study sites around. With Prolific you get paid cash for engaging in the research of Academics and Universities from around the world. There are Surveys and studies about scientific research, new products and public opinion. From minutes to hours, to multipart studies over longer periods, there's a respectable range of studies to participate in.
This site pays out to Paypal, it has a range of interesting surveys, and studies pay a minimum of Ā£6.50 per hour. Each study or survey tells you the amount you'll be paid for completing the task and also gives you the hourly rate of said task, which is very useful.
If you compare Prolific to other Study/Research sites, like Respondent or User interviews, for example, you might at first notice that the pay per task is much lower. However, what sets Prolific apart from sites with higher paying studies is the frequency with which you'll receive tasks. I often leave the Prolific tab open while I'm working on something else, and it's not unusual to receive 5-6 short studies over a 2-3 hour time period. The advantage here is that you'll receive tasks based on the information you've entered on your profile, whereas on other paid research sites, you would be applying for higher paying tasks with screeners, but it may not be often that you get accepted for the studies you apply for.
(2) Respondent:
I'm sure some of you have heard about Respondent, It's a site where you get paid for taking part in various studies. The studies can be both remote and in-person but these days most of the available studies are remote.
It doesn't take long to apply to studies so even if you don't qualify, you haven't wasted too much time. Also, the pay is excellent when you do qualify, with studies generally paying between Ā£10-Ā£150, depending on the type of study and the amount of time it takes (Generally ranges from 15-90 minutes).
It's not really a site that you can depend on for frequent payouts, but even if you land a few studies that pay Ā£60 or Ā£70 each, you're doing very well for the time you put in, so I do think this one is worth checking every day if you have 5 minutes to spare.
(3) User Interviews:
User Interviews is a site where you get paid to take part in various studies. There are normally a lot of studies available to apply for and the screeners are usually short and sweet.
This one has a high earning potential, due to the vast variety of study topics offered on the site. If you check your homepage frequently enough, it won't be long before you find a study that is looking for an applicant with your background/interests. Studies can pay anywhere from around Ā£8-Ā£200.
(4) Grapevine Panel:
A market research site where you get paid for your input as you participate in group discussions and one-to-one interviews. You'll be notified by email when projects become available and it pays quite well for the time you put in.
(5) Dscout:
So with this site you are rewarded for helping with Market Research. The way this works is that you are given "missions" where you offer your opinions/feedback on various products or services in exchange for payment.
The Pay is good and the payout is received promptly through PayPal. I also like that you answer photo and video questions, it keeps me a bit more engaged.
Although the pay per task is reasonable, I wouldn't say that the frequency of available tasks is its strong point. Check as often as you can for available missions and apply for all of them. It may take a little bit of time to get your first mission but once you do, more and more will appear.
(6) Angelfish Opinions:
Another market research site where you get paid to take part in focus groups and surveys. Pays Ā£1-Ā£100 per task.
(7) People for Research:
Get paid to take part in market research. This site pays very well, with many projects offering Ā£40-Ā£80 per hour.
(8) Focus Force:
A research group that pays for your opinions and various products and services.
(9) Focus 4 People:
Get paid up to Ā£150 for your participation in various research projects.

Surveys:

(1) Qmee:
A site/app where you get paid to help influence products and services by completing surveys. One of the stand-out advantages of Qmee is that you can cash out whenever you like, from as little as 1p, and it also pays out to Paypal.
There is usually a decent amount of surveys available, and for a paid survey site, the pay is relatively good.
(2) Attapoll:
An app where you get paid for answering surveys.
The surveys have a star rating so you can see which ones are most popular amongst users. The payout is fast and I find myself using this app more and more when I'm doing idle things like taking the train or on lunch break.
You can cash out to Paypal once you have earned Ā£3. As with the majority of paid surveys, you're certainly not going to earn a fortune, but if work is scarce on some of the higher earning sites, then it's always good to have these types of tasks as a safety.
(3) Lifepoints:
Another reliable Survey site, You share your opinions on numerous products and brands and get paid for it.
There's a nice variety of surveys available every month and at certain points throughout the year larger surveys appear which pay quite well, it's just a matter of checking your jobs page often enough to catch these. Also Pays out through Paypal.
My advice would be to be patient. Some days it may seem that there are very few surveys available, but check back the next day and there could be much more after appearing.

Matched Betting:

This one is quite a unique means to make extra money in a short period of time, It's called Matched Betting. It's a very simple process but it's imperative that you read the Guides in full before you begin.
Matched Betting is where you use bookmaker sites to complete various 'Free Bet' offers (e.g Bet Ā£10, Get Ā£30 in Free bets), but the whole idea behind the process is that every time you "make a bet", you match that same bet on the exchange (meaning the value of your qualifying bet will always be returned to you).
So for example, if I bet Ā£10 for Real Madrid to Win on the Bookmaker Site at odds of 2.5, I then also make a Matched bet on the Exchange (This is a separate site such as Smarkets or Betfair) where I bet for Real Madrid not to win at odds of 2.5 (or as close as I can get to those odds). In this way, I am covered in all outcomes (win, lose or draw), and it allows me to fulfil the requirements of the bookmaker's offer (e.g Bet Ā£10 and get Ā£30 in Free bets). The money from my initial bet has now been returned to me and I also have a Ā£30 free bet credited to my account.
When I receive my Ā£30 free bet, It's the same process of matching again but this time using my free bet on the bookmaker site. This is where I secure a profit, because I'm not using 'real money', and even if I lose on the bookmaker site, I will be paid out on the exchange.
This one is great if you can spare some money to get started. Your money isn't 'invested' or 'tied up' in anything, It's just that you'll need cash in order to complete the various free bet offers. You can withdraw your money at any time, but most people leave Ā£100-Ā£200 in their accounts just because it's easier than depositing money every time you want to do an offer. Over the course of 30 days, that Ā£100-Ā£200 or so will grow to Ā£600-Ā£700.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can get started by using a matched betting service such as Oddsmonkey. This site is a very useful resource for beginners, as they explain the process of each matched betting offer in detail. It is a paid service, but I would say it's well worth it for someone who is venturing into the world of matched betting for the first time. They also have a few promotion codes floating around online, such as EM50 (first month for half price) and EM365 (Discounted annual membership), which you can enter upon sign up.
The main advantage of Matched Betting is that it really doesn't take a lot of time to hit that Ā£500 profit mark. Over a 4 week period, I worked my way down through the list of welcome offers, nice and handy, and having completed 20 offers at 15 minutes per offer, I came out at Ā£470 for 5 hours total of work.
Not to knock paid projects/survey sites, but if you don't have the time or desire to invest in that kind of online work, the obvious advantage with Matched betting is speed and simplicity.
EDIT: Since I've received some messages with questions about matched betting, I'll also leave this Guide here which explains the process in more detail.
NOTE: If you have a history with gambling, do not come near Matched Betting. Matched Betting is not gambling, but the fact you will be using betting websites to facilitate a profit is too much of a temptation- It's not worth it.

Transcription:

(1) Rev:
With Rev, you'll be paid to transcribe speech in audio and video files. If you're unfamiliar with this type of work, all it is is converting speech into text, like creating subtitles for a video, for example.
As a Transcriptionist, you can earn around 20-90p per audio/video minute. As a Captioner, you can earn around 40-90p per audio/video minute. If you also know a foreign language, then you can earn even more. This site pays out to Paypal weekly.
(2) Way With Words:
This is another popular transcription site. You'll earn around 35p-Ā£1.50 per audio minute, depending on the project, and you'll be paid into your bank account monthly.

Content Moderation:

(1) Modsquad:
This is a site where you get paid to moderate content and help manage various online communities. The upside of this type of work is that it's flexible and you can choose projects that align with your own interests and knowledge.
The amount you earn depends on what kind of project you're working on and what skills you have. If it sounds like something you might be interested in, then all you need to get started is a computer, an internet connection, and a phone.
(2) Crisp Thinking:
With Crisp Thinking, the type of work you're applying for is something known as a 'Risk Analyst Contractor'. I know, it sounds like a very niche type of job, but in fact, it is content moderation just like Mod squad.
Essentially your role is to identify risks in online content. You can apply for this project by joining the waiting list on Crisp Thinking, found at the bottom of the 'careers' page, reading: 'If you wish to apply for freelance moderation work, find out more here'
I have read that this work pays very well, which is why there is usually a waiting list, but if it sounds like something you could see yourself doing in your spare time, then you might as well apply and hope for the best.

Freelancing:

(1) Fiverr:
Offer your services as a Freelancer and get paid. You can earn a lot from the "gigs" you post, but you'll need to have some kind of service you can offer that people will pay for. I'd recommend taking a look at what other people are posting and seeing if you could offer similar work.
You'll need to think of some kind of service that you can charge money for, but this can be just about anything. This also means that there's unlimited earning potential because you're creating your own work.
(2) Freelancer:
Another great site where you can offer your services as a Freelancer. You can post projects offering whatever category of skill you possess, be it ghostwriting, programming, data entry, or blogging. If you have a service to offer, then you can get paid for it on this site.
Like with Fiverr, I would recommend taking a look at the home page of the site to see what kind of services other users are offering. This will likely give you some ideas of the type of projects you could post, because even if you don't think you have a skill you could charge money for, you probably do.
(3) People Per Hour:
I like this one because you can send proposals to complete a certain task. For example, you might see a post where someone wants a person to write social media posts or proofread a piece of work.
There's always a good variety of jobs available, and the more you build up your profile, the more work you'll get.
(4) Guru:
Another popular freelancing site. Essentially the same as Fiverr or Freelancer.

Selling/Renting:

(1) Vinted:
This is a great Site/App where you can sell your old clothes. Maybe it doesnā€™t sound like your thing or you donā€™t think you have anything fashionable enough to sell. Believe me, You can sell any item of clothing here.
Iā€™ve sold clothes here in the past and have been pleasantly surprised with a nice few sales. The process of signing up and getting started selling is very easy, and the items of clothing you list will likely receive attention even if you arenā€™t a top seller.
(2) Facebook Marketplace:
Sell your old stuff. This one should honestly be mentioned in every thread where someone has asked how to make some extra cash in a hurry.
We all have stuff we don't use anymore lying around the house and as obvious as it may sound, the items that seem old and worthless to you will be new and exciting to someone else.I'm talking anything, literally anything: Old clothes, books, plant pots, gadgets you don't use anymore, furniture, homemade crafts etc.
Old Clothes seem to really sell fast, which isn't surprising because people get excited when they see something that's their style and really cheap. So clear out your wardrobe.
If you're into crafts, you could sell stuff you've made there too. The point is, You could easily make Ā£50-Ā£100 or more if you do a thorough sweep of your house for stuff you don't want/use anymore.
(3) Fat Llama:
This is a site where you can rent out pretty much anything. I first discovered it when I was trying to find a cheap place to rent some tools.
You can browse the site and see what kind of things other people are renting out, you'd be surprised by the number of items in your own home that you might not have use for but others would be happy to rent from you for the day.

Something Different:

(1) Rover:
This one is quite a great site where you can offer your services as a dog sittedog walker. You can have dogs dropped off at your home and get paid to look after them for a duration of time. It's ideal for people who miss having pets or who get a bit lonely working from home, etc. The pay is usually around Ā£20 per day for dog sitting, maybe Ā£6-Ā£10 for dog walking. If you're at a loose end anyway or just feel like having a furry companion during your free time, This site is a nice way to earn a little money and make some canine friends.
You just make a profile and enter your address so people in your area can find you, Bonus points if you have a dog in your profile photo with you.
(2) My Tutor:
MyTutor is an online-tutoring site, I donā€™t see this site mentioned a whole lot but it really is a gem. This one is ideal for students and recent graduates, but if you have skills or knowledge in any teachable subject then you should check it out. You donā€™t need any previous experience as a tutor to work here.
You can earn up to Ā£20 per hour and the work is rewarding and meaningful because you are helping others to learn. Itā€™s also very ā€œsocialā€ online work, which some people may see as a nice change.
Also, If you like the idea of tutoring but don't have knowledge in any of the teachable subjects listed on My Tutor, There is also the option of teaching ESL, which you can do a quick TEFL course on and may be worth the investment if you think you'd be interested in that type of work. It can be quite a good earner too. You can do these classes freelance or work for an online company such as Preply or Hallo.
That's all that I can think of right now for this list. I hope this post is of help to some people and if you have any questions about anything I mentioned just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.26 20:09 Ferretlover717 Found a really goofy website by chance... any ideas?

While bored out of my mind, I was searching up random images... A few clicks brought me to this website:
https://selliliar.live/product_details/58078183.html
Homepage:
https://selliliar.live/
From a glance, it seems to be any old online retailer. However, the products listed appear to be... websites? Wikipedia pages, Reddit posts, stock images, everything really; the list goes on. The website is... indescribably weird.
Observations:
-Anytime you refresh the page, the "Latest," "Best-selling," and "Featured" products change to completely different "items."
-The "About Us" page strangely lists the store name and URL, along with an address that leads to ... a neighborhood in San Diego, California...
-Every single price on the website is changed from the original (original crossed out), but some actually have sales, while others are more expensive??
-Parts of it might be AI-generated?
-Putting an item in your shopping cart and the proceeding to check-out does actually take you to a page that seems semi-functional (you need to input shipping info and your credit card info), though I haven't actually tried buying anything.
-The FAQ is pretty boring and standard, it's all questions about shipping, refunding "items," etc.
Perhaps I'm overthinking this, and it could just be an AI-generated project, or a school assignment... What do you guys think?

2024.05.26 15:41 Blakeley00 Sid Meier's Colonization 30th Anniversary Celebration - Communities, Fan Mods & Remakes, Similar Games & More!

To celebrate Sid Meier's Colonization 30th Anniversary this month CivFanatics are doing something similar to our recent Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Civilization Call to Power 25th Anniversary Celebrations and taking a look at what's been going on in the Colonization fan communities over the last few years, so sit back and enjoy the big read below!
Firstly it's worth mentioning that for those who no longer have the CDs or a CD drive Sid Meier's Colonization is currently available on Good old Games and Steam. It appears to have been rescued a few years ago from either 2K or Atari's IP dungeon by those great folks at Nightdive and Retroism (if only they'd do the same with Civilization 1, 2 & ToT which are still not on digital stores!).
Col GoG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/sid_meiers_colonization
Col Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/327400/Sid_Meiers_Colonization_Classic/
However it should be mentioned that this is only the original DOS version of the game, as the lesser known Windows version of Colonization that used higher quality graphics, resolutions & music is sadly not legally available likely due to it being a 16bit Windows 3.1/95 application. However perhaps wonderful programs like WineVDM might change that and would allow this special enhanced version to be sold again. There's no GoG Wishlist for it as they consider the game wish already fulfilled but there is this thread if people want to make their wishes for it known.

Secondly I should mention that while sadly most of the old Col communities are quiet or gone there are still some surviving forums and even some modern social media groups where Col fans meet to discuss their love of the games and even work on new projects.

Thirdly as many of you know Col had an official remake/sequel called Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Colonization which is available on Steam and GoG too. The remake was nice but not everyone's cup of tea so thankfully fans delivered again with some awesome total conversion projects like The Authentic Colonization (TAC) mod which made the game feel more like Classic Col, which was then expanded upon by the Religion & Revolution mod, and then massively expanded up on further with the popular We The People (WTP) mod that is still worked on to this day!

Civ4 Colonization - We The People Mod
Fourthly Colonization has been remade by fans as well! The long lasting and popular FreeCol project recently passed the big version 1.0 milestone and is still being improved upon to this day. FreeCol comes with an impressive collection of maps and mods that allow up to 16 nations (AI or even human multiplayer). Meanwhile the commercial fan game Treasure Fleet did an interesting alternative remake of the classic Colonization formula too. Both games really give you that feeling of a late 90s 2.5D isometric strategy game era Col sequel we never got.

Fifthly there's a number of other interesting in-progress fan projects that have emerged over the last few years attempting to either remake or create a similar experience to classic Col such as Theo's Settle The World (Amiga), David's Col Remake, AyCe's ColoX, Teal's Col Remake, Aoiti's Imperial Ambitions, and Americas Game of Colonization.

2024.05.26 08:01 Bizhelp17 Trying to regrow parents startup tech companies revenue and profit

So Iā€™m in my early 20s and my parents have a tech company over the last 10 years really revenue and profit have fallen as what used to work for getting sales is no longer cutting it I would like to increase the profit for my parents business to try and revitalize it and make it something that can become my main source of income. I write this post just so that others can see it and perhaps provide their perspectives and advice on what would be a good idea to try implementing
Some basic details regarding the company. Were a tech company that does b2b corporate software in a field that has very few competitors and none of them can match our price they all are more expensive usually by a factor of 10x. We do our best business with industries that use legacy versions of windows in the small to midsize businesses. Profit on a month to month basis was around $15,000-$40,000 for most of the mid and late 2010s with some months being substantially higher with larger account renewals. In 2020 monthly profit had fallen to around $4,000 and was mostly consistent customer renewals not many new customers. Currently as things stand profit has fallen to an average of $2,000 a month again mostly renewals and some newer customers as-well as recently and influx of old customers returning after years of using other products. I should also say we donā€™t have any expenses we could cut we have a very low overhead cost that is not the issue here itā€™s lack of sales and thatā€™s what Iā€™m hoping to get insight on
Here are some of the issues that may be hindering sales in my opinion
Currently our seo is decent we appear fairly high on search results we expect potential customers to make however our homepage isnā€™t as good as id like and a bit confusing hard to find pricing and buy page in my eyes but the main developer disagrees and is fairly hard headed and doesnā€™t like criticism but we canā€™t afford to bring someone else on so that canā€™t be easily changed. Iā€™ve suggested to our sales person to try making more cold calls and reaching out to old customers and potential new customers by email Iā€™ve found lists of potential customers in industries weā€™ve done well with and provided them with this list however they do not do work but again same problem we canā€™t afford to bring on another sales person or replace the current one, not to mention cold calls and emails are not even close to a sure fire sale but it beats nothing right? Also I should mention my parents themselves are annoyed by the current amount of profit being so low but arenā€™t really themselves interested in putting in work or changing anything so it kinda leaves me to take it on myself
This leads me to my main problem of I guess Iā€™m not sure exactly how to facilitate more sales in the past things were the same with lack of work ethic from our sales person and hardheadedness from our developer however we still managed to do much better in the market and had a product that our customers swore by but as our competitors diversified what there products have been capable of weā€™ve lost business our product is still the best and most straightforward to use for what it does itā€™s just our competitors have features for complete other use cases as well as competing with us.

2024.05.26 07:58 Bizhelp17 Trying to regrow parents companies revenue and profit

2024.05.25 15:55 melaines_void [TOMT][Website] Simple website I used for work back in 1999

Hi everyone, I'm trying to track down an old website I used for work around 1999. It was called "Network Station." The site had a basic late-90s web design with a gray background and a simple layout. The homepage had a centered header that said "Network Station" in blue text with a shadow effect. There was a basic navbar with links like "Home," "About," "Services," and "Contact."
The content was mainly text-based, with a white background for the main section. It had articles, tutorials, and forums. I canā€™t remember the exact URL, and Iā€™m hoping someone might know more about it or who created it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

2024.05.24 19:47 ImOnlyHereForTheSims TikTok is so fkng toxic.

For context, Iā€™m a 30 year old female. Ive never used TikTok for entertainment or scrolling. I have an account that I use for my business and thatā€™s about it. Iā€™ve actually banned myself from even watching short videos on almost two years ago YouTube because theyā€™re addicting and I canā€™t stop once I start.
Two days ago, I got on TikTok through an out link to watch a video someone posted. On my homepage, the first suggested video was a girl who is clearly anorexic. I couldnā€™t help myself, and ended up clicking on her profile. It was full of nothing but body checking videos disguised as ā€œWhat I eat in a dayā€ content. I doomscrolled her profile and felt like shit about myself.
THEN, upon going back to my homepage there were sooooo many suggested videos of almost identical content. I went through different profiles of the same content for like two hours and then did it again the next day.
Luckily I came to my senses and I am deleting the app today. But holy shit, I just canā€™t believe this shit is shoved down your throat on there. I feel so bad for young teens who go on there and see that, because if Iā€™M influenced by it at my age I canā€™t imagine what it does to young, developing minds.
Fuck that app. Rant over.

2024.05.24 17:59 SunriseOath Hybrid layered slipbox system

There is quite a lot of discussion on hybrid zettelkasten / slipbox systems ( search for "hybrid"), but it seems that most of them (though I have perhaps not looked carefully enough!) will end toward analog notes and a digital metadata system. I thought I would write a little (or a lot) here about my own system, which I would roughly consider to have three layers:
I will try my best to make this primer easy to skim so that it can become a short article for those who have no desire to read my rambling.

Obsidian (middle layer)

Though this is the middle layer, it is also the oldest part of my system (outside of a small portion of my active offline notes) and the most elaborate organized, and so it must be considered as the hub or interface by which I use the other two layers.
Workflow
I spend most of my time typing in my Obsidian daily note, in something close to a stream of consciousness. As I type at around a hundred and ten words per minute when transcribing my thoughts, it means a lot of raw words fall down on the screen. I use the daily note as my homepage for the day and sometimes embed different pages as "modules" that I have gotten used to having around.
Content
I start each day with clearing my mind of anything that might distract meā€”my meditation and prayer practices have shown me that the best way for me to stop ruminating about something is to write it down as a "bookmark" then hide it from myselfā€”then seamlessly working in that file on a new narrower topics of interest. Mostly this is thinking more about a particular fictional setting that once underpinned an unfinished novel project, but which has become a sort of solo journaling game () that serves as something between a memory device for method of loci and a self-authoring tool. But I also will link in things that I consume while surfing the web and will write notes about my impressions, or summarize them if I want a quick reference for later. I also link to chats I have with large language models, for future reference.
Structure
When I am happy with the contents of my daily note, I flush them out via the Note Refactor plugin and keep on working within that note. All daily notes are recorded within weekly notes, all weekly in monthly, all monthly in quarterly, all quarterly in yearly. (Still only one yearly note with real substance, as this has only been in progress for a year and a half.) I navigate my vault by either using the search bar or by calling up embeds in my daily note and clicking through, though sometimes I also just write in my daily note commenting on my embedded note. I use comment tags to hide materials that have no need to show up in an embed. I will also sometimes make single-word links and simply click through regardless of if that page already exists.
Style
My notes are all of various length and format, because I treat every single one as an index or landing page of sorts. For the most part the notes not associated directly with a date will either have a unique title in YYYY-MM-DD-HHmmss format or a single word title that I use to recall it. There are some exceptions to this rule, but it feels right to me that I can have clear single-word triggers. Feels like casting spells.

Online Presence (top layer)

This is perhaps the most stable part of my life as I grew up on the Internet, but it only became a deliberate documentary practice in the past few years.
Workflow
When I have something I am not willing to edit, either due to it being precious or due to me no longer feeling I can add much to it, I push it outward into the world. This comes from my desire to not arrogate my writings for myself. If others can profit from them, I hope they do.
Content
I do a minor bit of editing on what I have in my Obsidian, depending on need. Though, usually the editing process is simply the curation of which existing sentences and paragraphs get pushed outward. I use image generators and large language models to expand or enhance content from time to time, but honestly I am usually too lazy.
Public Presence
For the most part my online presence is on Twitter (), though I have put some longer items on my Blogspot (available in bio) and now plan to also put things on Reddit (hello!). I use this Twitter specifically as a sort of digital antinet, in the style of the infamous antinet guy who shall not be named. I embed or link tweets (depending on the day) in my Obsidian, which gives me a nice index of my tweets which are otherwise a little cumbersome to scroll through. Though, the search function is great for keywords. Semi-
Private Presence
Another significant part of my online presence is sending messages to friends and family on social media! I will sometimes cut something from my vault and simply fire it off in a chat, then screenshot it and embed it back in my vault. This is also a form of output, and can be deeply meaningful. Just today, I messaged an old friend who I somehow have not thought to contact since last August. All thanks to randomly happening upon a reflection about our most recent meeting.
Private Presence
The last piece of the puzzle: Google Drive, which I also link in my Obsidian. Looking through my documents extending back to middle school (!) is deeply satisfying and lets me yank in those old materials I have. I feel extremely lucky that so much of my life is waiting in my Drive, always ready to be evaluated. Just a couple of weeks ago, I sorted all my old folders and made it even easier for myself to go spelunking. A portion of my Google Docs are also part of the materials that I will send around (or print off) for friends, though a lot of this is only for personal use.

Index Cards & Notebooks (bottom layer)

This is the last piece of the puzzle and has really capped everything off. For me, this is the simplest part to explain because it is also the smallest and most recent; only a couple of weeks ago did I finally directly start pointing at my Obsidian vault with index cards! I theorycrafted about it for a long time, given my long-time interest in card-style "libraries" (yes, I played the wizard cardboard crack game), but finally decided that it needed to happen.
Workflow
When I need a change of pace, or when I want to spend some more quality time with the love of my dreams (who I am marrying in June!), I either directly pull out my index cards or grab one of many notebooks spanning back many years. Then, I just start writing, usually in pen, based on vibes. I date and label everything with enough metadata that I can refer to it easily with my other notes. I both write by hand, paying attention to the flow of my handwriting, and do a little bit of collage using writings and artwork from myself and others.
Content
I usually do my handwriting without any references, which lets me rely purely on my own naked recall. This means that when I grab a stack of my index cards, they usually represent the most immediate of all my knowledge. I try to not stop writing, though I will move between my scratch notebooks and my index cards depending on how fleeting it is.
Structure
The notes are mostly chronological, with the frame that each new note "wraps" all old notes by being able to refer back to any of them. Notes sometimes point forward in time when I go back and make additions, but for the most part I am interpreting old content with new. (Those of you familiar with Bible hermeneutics might be familiar with this frame!)
Special Note
Perhaps the most special part of this process is that my girlfriend-fiancĆ©e also participates in the same system of index cards and notebooksā€”yes, this part of the puzzle is collaborative! Some other people are also unofficially part of this card pool, but it is mostly the two of us. Her contribution mostly comes in the form of drawing on the back of my notes, which means that my offline slipbox is directly linked to a part of her own personal artistic corpus. (We are still figuring out how to manage the differing sets of indexes, though for now we just sort everything by date according to the older index.) A big part of my life in general is printing things off so that there are physical artifacts with my writing on them, and handwriting has been a way to give these paper documents another aspect of personal touch. Removing cards from circulation has been as meaningful as putting them in, as one man's trash is so often another man's treasure.

Summary & Closing Notes

So, this is a no-longer-so-quick writeup on how I am running a small hybrid empire of documents across three layers. It has been super meaningful to me that all these different parts of me are linked up.
One last note is that I think it is so important to think of the preservation of documents simply as a form of copying and adapting. Even a piece of paper sitting there is "copying" itself across time. The best way for us to pick out the cream of the crop and preserve it for the future (the ages?) is to be willing to transfer it to another medium. This is why I have embraced the process of moving things between my layers and seeing what happens to my ideas when I give them a little shake.
Was fun to write this as I procrastinate on writing an essay about the evolving urban morphology of Montreal before 1900. Also, hi! This is my first post, and I hope to make pushing a portion of my writings here a regular practice.
