Gillette castle and connecticut

Gurkha Castle Hall Connecticut, mild cigar, got hints of cloves, cedar, and tobacco flavor. The burn was strange and fast, I was getting a heavy smoke output, then it just completely fell apart. I do not recommend and won’t get this again.

2024.05.11 08:26 MGS1234yt SPOILERS: Is New Castle, Connecticut (Avery's hometown) a coincidence?

SPOILERS, DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY
I was reading The Hawthorne Legacy, and I spotted something strange. In the letter that Harry/Toby leaves at Jackson's for Hannah, he says:
Start anew. You love fairy tales, I know, but I can't be your happily-ever after. We can't stay here in our little castle forever. You have to find a new castle. You have to move on. You have to live for me.
The most important part here is the part where he says: " You have to find a new castle". Wouldn't you know it, Hannah leaves to New Castle, Connecticut afterwards.
I suspect that knowing who he was, she knew he would appreciate the wordplay, which is also how he was able to find her afterwards, when she was giving birth to Avery.

Always see the lists of recommendations for the area and it's usually permeated with private country clubs and a several of the top tier public courses that sometimes cost more to play than a car payment. I have played quite a few courses in the region and wanted to mention a few of the courses that I thought are exceptional alternatives with affordable prices, pristine conditions & engrossing layouts.
Feel free to comment your recommendations and/or any your favorites in the area!

2024.05.02 23:19 GlueGuy00 Givony/Woo Updated Big Board (Top 25)

https://www.espn.com/nba/insidestory/_/id/38788364/2024-nba-draft-rankings-espn-top-25-prospects
  1. Zaccharie Risacher SF JL Bourg
  2. Alex Sarr PF/C Perth
  3. Donovan Clingan C Connecticut
Clingan has started his pre-draft process in Florida but will surely be selective with what teams he visits as his outstanding play this season has rocketed him into the top five on NBA teams' draft boards.
  1. Rob Dillingham PG Kentucky
  2. Nikola Topic PG Red Star
Topic made a pair of 3s and showed his vision with intelligent pick-and-roll reads, but his rhythm looked off -- as is expected following his prolonged absence. He got his shot blocked on a few occasions and struggled to move laterally out of a stance, as well. His coming games will be closely scrutinized, but he'll likely have plenty of games coming this month that give him a chance to regain some of the momentum he lost because of his injury.
  1. Matas Buzelis SF G League Ignite
  2. Reed Sheppard PG/SG Kentucky
Sheppard entered the draft after receiving feedback indicating he has a very strong case to be a top-five pick, possibly even a top-three pick -- an opportunity that is hard to pass on.
  1. Dalton Knecht SG/SF Tennessee
  2. Stephon Castle PG/SG Connecticut
  3. Cody Williams SG/SF Colorado
Front offices will be particularly interested to assess his comfort level shooting both off the catch and dribble in drill situations as they try to better project his future offensive role and impact. Williams' size, playmaking ability and defensive potential have always signaled intriguing long-term upside, but there's a variance of opinion among scouts on his floor and ceiling as a prospect.
  1. Isaiah Collier PG USC
Collier is viewed as a polarizing prospect, with a wide draft range starting around the mid-lottery and extending throughout the first round.
  1. Ja'Kobe Walter SG/SF Baylor
Walter's shot-making ability, length and intangibles have given him a secure pathway into the later lottery, as teams feel pretty comfortable with what he brings to the table.
  1. Ron Holland SF G League Ignite
  2. Zach Edey C Purdue
  3. Tidjane Salaun PF Cholet
  4. Kyle Filipowski PF/C Duke
  5. Devin Carter PG/SG Providence
  6. Tristan Da Silva SF/PF Colorado
  7. Jared McCain PG/SG Duke
He improved his shot creation, rebounding and defense as the season moved on and now has an easy niche he can fill in the NBA with his scoring instincts, competitiveness and smarts.
  1. Yves Missi C Baylor
While still a ways from being able to positively impact an NBA floor on a nightly basis, Missi's physical ability and size make him an interesting development selection in a draft that's otherwise a bit light on rim-running centers in his mold. His range still seems wide going into May as the pre-draft process nears.
  1. Tyler Smith SF/PF G League Ignite
  2. Kevin McCullar Jr. SG/SF Kansas
  3. Bobi Klintman SF/PF Cairns
It's hard to find an NBA team that isn't looking for 6-10 players in his mold, despite theoretical qualities to his game that he'll still need to answer for during the pre-draft process, namely his consistency on both ends of the floor.
  1. Kyshawn George SG/SF Miami
There are real questions about his ability to get into the paint and handle physicality, but his mix of skills is inherently valuable if he puts it together. He could be a real riser in the spring, but he could also be better off developing in college another year.
  1. Carlton Carrington PG Pitt
Carrington will need time to be ready to play meaningful NBA minutes, but his youth, versatility and feel for the game give him a high ceiling in a draft lacking in that department.

Good morning
Excellent stick to pair with a creamy coffee to kick off the day. Foundation is a staple in my stash and the Highclere Castle Edwardian is no exception even for a Connecticut. Absolute classic when you’re reaching for something on the lighter and creamier end but still plenty of spice.

The Haters Guide to the 2024 NCAA Basketball Championship Game
https://preview.redd.it/fgtxgscy03tc1.jpg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2612bf4a37a7ce52f50a2622db2f70d230d23a
After a somewhat uneventful March Madness and a rather uneventful Final Four, we are now down to the last two standing. And it comes on a day when a total solar eclipse is taking place. Which could mean anything.
This is the last NCAA Tournament before the alignment of conferences change. Sure, the tournament itself will likely remain the same, but the geographical landscape of college basketball will be forever changed.
So, let's take a look at the our final two contestants.
Connecticut Huskies
Were you expecting someone else?
The defending National Champion Huskies have returned to the National Championship game looking stronger than ever before. This is UConn's sixth title game in school history, on the 25th anniversary of their first national championship in 1999. Think about that. This team is no longer just another strong Big East school. This team is a bonafide Blue Blood now. It may not seem like it to you, but 1999 wasn't that long ago. And their resume since then has been as impressive as the Patriots' strong run under Brady and Belichick. New England always seems to be the region of the country where dynasties are born, and this team is no exception. They have now become the Patriots of College Basketball. Just when their reign was over after 2016, they have come back from the dead, and have become an Empire
The tournament's overall #1 seed has taken no prisoners during their run. They have a roster that rivals the early 70s UCLA dynasty in terms of talent. Led by the one-two punch of Tristen Newton and Donovan Clingan, the Huskies steamrolled their competition on their way to another Final Four. Cam Spencer has also been a key contributor to this team, as he continues to excel in putting up insane rebounding numbers. Stephon Castle has also been top notch. Samson Johnson and Alex Karaban have also been running at peak performance this tournament, and it doesn't look like anyone will be able to stop them.
In the first round they took care of business against Stetson. Then in the second round they crushed the Cinderella hopes of Northwestern. In the Sweet 16 they were matched up against San Diego State yet again in a rematch of last year's title game. And they demolished them in an even greater fashion than last year. Then in the Elite Eight, Illinois came knocking at their door. At first it looked like it would be a competitive game, the Illini were giving the Huskies all they could handle...in the first half. Then the Illini imploded on themselves as UConn put up a 30-0 run on them, crushing their Final Four hopes.
Then came the Final Four, where they were matched up against Alabama. At first, it looked like the Huskies would finally get a run for their money. And it did feel like it...for about a period and a half. Then the Huskies reminded Alabama that football season was over and sent them packing as the Crimson Tide had just about ran out of gas.
Now the Huskies are back in the title game, and look to become the first team since Florida in 2007 to repeat as national champions. Not only that, they are looking to become an Empire, the likes of which we haven't seen since the UCLA dynasty of the 60s and early 70s.
But first, they'll have to get by their opponent. A team that may be the only one that can stand toe-to-toe with them.
And they are desperate to exorcise their own demons...
Purdue Boilermakers
About time you got back here, isn't it?
Purdue has returned to the National Championship game for the first time in 55 years. Hard to believe, isn't it?
You may find it hard to believe, but Purdue has made it this far before. The year was 1969. They had made their first tournament appearance in program history, and they made it all the way to the national championship game in their March Madness debut. Unfortunately, it ended ugly for them, as they were blown out by UCLA, a team led by future Showtime Lakers star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Purdue alum John Wooden as head coach, who became the first (and still only) team to complete a three-peat in college basketball. Ouch.
And they didn't make it back until now. 55 years is a long time to wait for another shot at a Natty, and the Boilers have had to experience decades upon decades of heartbreak before they finally got back here again. Falling to UCLA again in the Final Four in 1980. The Elite Eight loss to Duke in 1994. The heartbreak of 2000 against Wisconsin. Little Rock in 2016. Getting smacked in the face by Texas Tech in 2018. Diakete's dagger for Virginia in 2019. North Texas in 2021. Saint Peter's in 2022. And of course, last year's debacle against FDU. The Boilers were only the second #1 seed to be bested by a #16 seed. And it left a sour taste in everybody's mouth. From the players down to the coaches, everyone was feeling dejected. It made people think twice about picking Purdue to go on deep runs in their brackets. Everyone thought that Purdue was destined to be an early exit every year, and that Painter would fail to lead this team to glory like Gene Keady before him.
But as we learned from Virginia in 2019, life finds a way...
The Boilers deemed this to be their redemption season, and so far, they've lived up to the hype. The Boilers took care of business in the first round and did not take any chances. They then proceeded to humiliate Utah State in round two. Gonzaga came knocking at their door in the Sweet 16. This is where everyone expected the Boilers to falter. But they didn't. Purdue pulled away in the 2nd half and ruined the Bulldogs' hopes yet again. Then came their toughest test yet - Tennessee. At first things looked ugly for the Boilers, they trailed by as many as 11 points early on, and everyone was ready to write off Purdue yet again. But Zach Edey - the back-to-back AP Player of the Year and the nation's leading scorer, refused to let it end this way. He put up 40 points and barely even rested as he carried the Boilers back to the Final Four for the first time in 44 years.
And in the National Semifinal, they were matched up against NC State, a team looking to write the sequel to 1983. But the Boilers were having none of it. Even though the Wolfpack gave them all they could handle, they were no match for Edey & Company, as they led for pretty much the whole game en route to returning to the title game. Finally.
And it's not all because of Zach Edey. Fletcher Loyer, though somewhat inconsistent, has been helpful in getting the Boilers back to this stage of the tournament. Let's not forget Caleb Furst and Lance Jones either, they've been studs as well. And of course, Braden Smith, who has come up in clutch situations for this team when it mattered most. And we can't forget about Trey Kaufman-Renn either, who will replace Edey as the big man for next year's squad.
Purdue has made it back here, but they're facing a very strong UConn team who has demolished everyone they played.
The Boilers also have another hurdle to overcome: no Big Ten team has won the national title in basketball since Michigan State did it all the way back in 2000. Multiple Big Ten teams have failed to win the title since - Indiana came up short in 2002. So did Illinois in 2005. Even Sparty failed in 2009. And Michigan in 2013 and 2018? I don't wanna bring that up.
Purdue also hopes to become the second team from the Hoosier state to bring home a national title, and become the first to do so since Indiana did it in 1987. 37 years ago.
This is it - the New England dynasty-in-the-making versus the Big Ten's unlucky Bridesmaid.
Let the battle commence!
\EPIC TITLE GAME JINX INCOMING\**
As both teams appear to match up well against one another, I don't think we're going to see either of these teams cruise to a title. I have a feeling this game will come down to the wire, and UConn will be seriously tested for the first time. It will be a very close game. I'm not sure if it will go to overtime, but anything is possible. Neither team has many weaknesses and both have big men who can put down points - Purdue with Edey, and UConn with Clingan. You can bet that both of them will be duking it out. UConn has one of the strongest offenses the game has ever seen, even if Alabama exposed some of their weak spots. What Purdue lacks on offense they make up for with their strong defense. This will not be a cakewalk for either team.
But in the end, I think college basketball is officially fucked.
I predict that UConn will narrowly defeat Purdue and clinch their sixth national title, and cement themselves as the next great dynasty to come out of New England after the Patriots.
Have a nice day.

The Haters Guide to the 2024 NCAA Men's Final Four

It is once again the most wonderful time of the year. The Final Four is once again upon us, starting two days before a total solar eclipse.
To be honest, compared to past seasons, this tournament was rather uneventful. Sure, there were upsets, but not as many as there were in 2021, 2022 or even 2023. Other than Oakland over Kentucky and Yale over Auburn, there weren't really that many significant upsets than the typical 11 over 6 seed ones and so on. It's just been...normal for once. And March Madness is not supposed to be normal.
But we did get some new teams in the Final Four once again, thankfully. Lets take a look at who all made it here.
**Connecticut Huskies**
Anyone with an IQ north of 9 could have seen this coming. The defending National Champion Huskies have returned to the Final Four looking stronger than ever before. This is UConn's seventh Final Four in school history, on the 25th anniversary of their first national championship in 1999. Just when their reign was over after 2016, they have come back from the dead.
The tournament's overall #1 seed has taken no prisoners during their run. Led by the one-two punch of Tristen Newton and Donovan Clingan, the Huskies steamrolled their competition on their way to another Final Four.
UConn is running on all cylinders and look to become the first team to repeat as national champions since Florida did so in 2007.
They're heavy favorites against their competition, but that hasn't stopped these guys from being bracket busters...
**Alabama Crimson Tide**
Huh?! Am I reading this correctly?
Alabama has made the Final Four...in a sport other than football? What is going on here? Did Nick Saban retire from football so that he could coach basketball? Did the Crimson Tide forget that football season is over and has been over since they lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl?
Okay, I'll stop asking questions already. But the Crimson Tide have made their first Final Four in program history. Welcome to the club of football schools that have made the Final Four, Bama. You're in good company too - Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Minnesota (although vacated), Mississippi State, USC, Washington, Iowa, Florida, Florida State, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Arkansas are all football schools who have made the Final Four in basketball too. The list of football schools that have won a national title in basketball however, is even smaller - only Michigan, Ohio State, Arkansas, and Florida have accomplished that feat. Will Alabama become the fifth football school to pull off this feat?
The SEC has had a disappointing March Madness, most of the SEC teams that made the Big Dance were all gone by the end of the first weekend. But nobody thought that Alabama would be the team that would get the SEC back to the Final Four. In the SEC Tournament, the Crimson Tide were bounced in their opening game against Florida. And nobody expected them to do anything of note in the Big Dance.
That is when the Tide proved the doubters wrong. Led by superstar Mark Sears, along with Grant Nelson and Aaron Estrada, the Crimson Tide made noise this March. After plowing their way through some rather mid competition in Chattanooga and Grand Canyon in the first two rounds, they returned to the Sweet 16, but everyone expected them to bow out to the mighty Tar Heel empire. But the Tide did not bend. In a tight back and forth contest, Grant Nelson out-dueled Armando Bacot and carried the Tide to a stunning upset.
Then in the Elite Eight the Tide faced off against Clemson for the national championsh-Oh sorry, wrong sport. I forgot that this was March Madness, not the College Football Playoff. Man, I'm an idiot. Anyway, Mark Sears and the Tide fended off a hungry Clemson squad to make their first Final Four in school history.
Even though they made it this far, the Tide are nonetheless significant underdogs against UConn. Does Bama still have enough in the tank to bring down a giant? Or will UConn send them through the woodchipper like the rest of the teams they've faced?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the bracket...
**NC State Wolfpack**
Really? They made it here?
NC State has returned to the Final Four for the first time in over four decades, and as the sixth 11th-seeded team to reach the big state. The last time the Wolfpack were here, they pulled off the most famous upset in tournament history - Dereck Whittenburg to Lorenzo Charles. In front of Hakeem Olajuwon. Jimmy V storming the court. You all know it very well. After all, the NCAA reminds us of it every single March.
Even though NC State is only a mere #11 seed, don't let that fool you, as they are filled to the brim with talent - the face of this squad being DJ Horne, who has carried this team on his back this tournament. And let's not forget DJ Burns - standing 6'9 and weighing a whopping 275 lbs, this big man has also carried the Wolfpack on his back too, especially in ending a potential Cinderella run for Oakland, smashing Marquette's hopes in the Sweet 16, and in the Elite Eight against Duke, where he came to life in the second half and basked in the saltiness of Duke fans everywhere. Mohamed Diarra has been this team leading rebounded and has come up in clutch situations. And lets not forget this teams other key contributors like Michael O'Connell and MJ Rice, who are not to be disregarded.
The Wolfpack are looking to create a repeat of 1983, and have shown that they can hang with just about everyone this tournament. They are looking to bring home a third national title.
Their opponent?
A team looking to exorcise their own demons...
**Purdue Boilermakers**
About time you got back here, isn't it?
Purdue has returned to the Final Four for the first time since the year Pac-Man hit the arcades. Busting many brackets in the process. 42 years is a long time to wait, and the Boilers have had to experience decades upon decades of heartbreak before they finally got back here again. There was the Elite Eight loss to Duke in 1994. The heartbreak of 2000 against Wisconsin. Little Rock in 2016. Getting smacked in the face by Texas Tech in 2018. Diakete's dagger for Virginia in 2019. North Texas. Saint Peter's.
But life finds a way...
He put up 40 points and barely even rested as he carried the Boilers back to the Final Four for the first time in almost half a century.
Finally. And it's not all because of Zach Edey. Fletcher Loyer, though somewhat inconsistent, has been helpful in getting the Boilers back to this stage of the tournament. Let's not forget Caleb Furst either, he's been a stud as well. And of course, Braden Smith, who has come up in clutch situations for this team when it mattered most.
Even though Purdue has made it back to the Final Four, the battle is far from over for them. They have to deal with a hungry NC State squad that wants to write the second coming of 1983. Also, no Big Ten team has won the national title in basketball since Michigan State did it all the way back in 2000. Can Purdue prove the doubters wrong and end the Big Ten's long title drought? That remains to be seen.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Wait, you actually want me to predict the National Championship game? No, no way. My bracket absolutely sucked this year. I'm not doing it. This year has brought lots of bad luck and I refuse to add on to it. Forget it, I'm not doing it.
JINXING TIME
And the national championship game will be UConn vs. Purdue.
Crap...

2024.04.01 17:31 ZandrickEllison Which team would win the Final Four -- IF prospects stayed for all 4 years of eligibility?

The NCAA Final Four is set -- with UConn, Alabama, Purdue, and N.C. State. As usual, experience helped for most of those teams, highlighted by seniors like Zach Edey (Purdue), Mark Sears (Alabama), and D.J. Burns (NC State).
Most elite prospects never make it to their senior year. For them, college usually means a quick cameo. Staying for 2 years is rare, let alone 3 or 4 like the old days.
But what if that old trend never died? What if basketball players actually stayed for all 4 years of their college careers? How stacked would these teams be? And which of those stacked teams would be the best? That thought exercise brings us here today, with my rankings of the best college teams in a world where players stayed through their senior year.
SWEET SIXTEEN
(16) IOWA HAWKEYES
PG: Tony Perkins, senior
SG: Payton Sandfort, junior
SF: Keegan Murray, senior
PF: Kris Murray, senior
C: Owen Freeman, freshman
One of the challenges with this exercise is debating the worth of one star versus a team with depth. Some of the best eligible players in the field -- like Scottie Barnes for Florida State and Evan Mobley for USC -- may not have the horses around them to be a top contender in a suddenly crowded NCAA field. I think Keegan Murray would have just enough here at Iowa, including his twin brother Kris. At this point, Keegan would be a senior and one of the most well-rounded players in the country.
(15) TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS
PG: Jaden Springer, senior
SG: Keon Johnson, senior
SF: Dalton Knecht, senior
PF: Julian Phillips, sophomore
C: Jonas Aldoo, junior
Elite Eight finisher Tennessee would add a lot of NBA talent and would even be able to bring the speedy Kennedy Chandler off the bench. Most of these Volunteer alum left a little early and didn't light the NBA on fire yet, but they could be stars if they stayed in college, like current senior Dalton Knecht has been.
(14) NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS
PG: R.J. Davis, senior
SG: Cormac Ryan, senior
SF: Harrison Ingram, junior
PF: Armando Bacot, senior
C: Day'Ron Sharpe, senior
The current UNC Tar Heels were a veteran team that rode their experience to a 1-seed (if not a Final Four appearance). They'll add another veteran big here in Day'Ron Sharpe. These Heels would have great size in the frontcourt and shooting in the backcourt, but their depth would be more limited; UNC hasn't produced as many NBA players as expected in their recent era.
(13) HOUSTON COUGARS
PG: Jamal Shead, senior
SG: L.J. Cryer, senior
SF: Emanuel Sharpe, sophomore
PF: J'Wan Roberts, senior
C: Jarace Walker, sophomore
This year's Cougars went 30-4 in the regular season and earned a # 1 seed, only to get knocked out by Duke over the weekend in large part to an injury to veteran Jamal Shead. Well, the Cougars will get another bite at the apple here with a team consisting mostly of their current players. The one major addition would be getting Jarace Walker (Indiana's lottery pick) back in the fold to help add some athleticism and energy inside. The fact that one of the best teams in the country this year wouldn't crack the top 10 shows you the depth of this field. Houston is well-coached and well-disciplined, but the program isn't as chocked full of NBA talent as other clubs on our list.
(12) KANSAS JAYHAWKS
PG: Kevin McCullar, senior
SG: Johnny Furphy, freshman
SF: Gradey Dick, sophomore
PF: Jalen Wilson, senior
C: Hunter Dickinson, senior
The current Kansas team struggled with their depth after the injury to Kevin McCullar. They'd get some relief here in the form of sharpshooter Gradey Dick and forward Jalen Wilson, but not much else beyond that.
(11) MICHIGAN WOLVERINES
PG: Dug McDaniel, sophomore
SG: Kobe Bufkin, sophomore
SF: Jett Howard, sophomore
PF: Caleb Houston, junior
C: Moussa Diabete, junior
Part of the reason that coach Juwan Howard struggled so badly this year (going 8-24 and getting fired) was because some of these young bucks jumped to the NBA earlier than expected. If they stayed in the program, the Wolverines would have been a solid, balanced squad.
(10) ARIZONA WILDCATS
PG: Caleb Love, senior
SG: Dalen Terry, junior
SF: Bennedict Mathurin, senior
PF: Keshad Johnson, senior
C: Oumar Ballo, senior
This season's Arizona Wildcats disappointed in March Madness, falling as a 2-seed in the Sweet Sixteen. However, they'll get a boost here with talents like Dalen Terry and Bennedict Mathurin, who would presumably be among the best scorers in the country as a senior. The depth inside isn't quite on the level of the other super teams, but there are at least 7 current or future pros on the roster.
(9) BAYLOR BEARS
PG: Keyonte George, sophomore
SG: Ja'Kobe Walter, freshman
SF: Kendall Brown, junior
PF: Jeremy Sochan, junior
C: Yves Missi, freshman
Now playing with the Utah Jazz, Keyonte George has proven to be more advanced as a distributor than we thought he was back in college. That development could give this athletic team a solid offensive set and avoid having to see Point-Sochan like we did in San Antonio this year.
ELITE EIGHT
(8) PURDUE BOILERMAKERS
PG: Braden Smith, sophomore
SG: Jaden Ivey, senior
SF: Fletcher Lover, sophomore
PF: Mason Gillis, senior
C: Zach Edey, senior
We're taking a real Final Four team and adding a former lottery pick in Jaden Ivey to it. Say what you will about Ivey and Zach Edey's NBA future, but they'd be about as productive of a 1-2 punch as you could find in college. The rest of the roster doesn't wow you, so the duo would have to carry this team to make a run.
(7) AUBURN TIGERS
PG: Sharife Cooper, senior
SG: Jabari Smith Jr., junior
SF: J.T. Thor, senior
PF: Johni Broome, junior
C: Walker Kessler, senior
Little Sharife Cooper may have jumped to the NBA too early; if he stuck around, he'd be a stud senior by now. He'd also provide a much-needed backcourt boost for this Tigers team. Even as it stands right now, they'd have to go with a super-sized lineup and try to choke out choke out opponents on the defensive end.
(6) KENTUCKY WILDCATS
PG: Cason Wallace, sophomore
SG: Reed Sheppard, freshman
SF: Shaedon Sharpe, junior
PF: Brandon Boston Jr., senior
C: Isaiah Jackson, senior
We're going with a smaller lineup here, although coach John Calipari has plenty of options here with at least 10 players who are either pros or future pros on the roster (including Rob Dillingham and Justin Edwards as freshman this year).
(5) ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
PG: Mark Sears, senior
SG: J.D. Davison, junior
SF: Josh Primo, senior
PF: Brandon Miller, sophomore
C: Noah Clowney, sophomore
Alabama made the real Final Four this year, but that may have been hard to repeat. That is, unless they added an uber-talent like Brandon Miller back into the fold. Even as a sophomore, Miller would be one of the best players in college basketball. He'd have some solid athletes around him, too, depending on whether Josh Primo would be eligible or not.
FINAL FOUR
(4) CONNECTICUT HUSKIES
PG: Andre Jackson Jr., senior
SG: Jordan Hawkins, junior
SF: Stephon Castle, freshman
PF: Alex Karaban, sophomore
C: Donovan Clingan, sophomore
UConn has been the class of the NCAA for the last two years, and those two units combine for a very strong group here. This team would return Andre Jackson Jr., Jordan Hawkins, and Adama Sanogo from the 2023 title team.
(3) ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS
PG: Anthony Black, sophomore
SG: Ricky Council IV, senior
SF: Moses Moody, senior
PF: Jordan Walsh, sophomore
C: Jaylin Williams, senior
The Razorbacks would have a ton of talent in the backcourt, with sophomore Nick Smith Jr. coming off the bench as a microwave scorer. Inside, they don't have tons of size but they do have some athleticism and switchability -- making this starting five a true handful.
(2) DUKE BLUE DEVILS
PG: Jared McCain, freshman
SG: A.J. Griffin, sophomore
SF: Jalen Johnson, senior
PF: Paolo Banchero, junior
C: Mark Williams, senior
The Duke Blue Devils would have the beastliest frontcourt in college basketball, highlighted by Paolo Banchero. Even behind these starters, they'd have Dereck Lively II and Kyle Filipowski in reserve. Night to night, they could dominate inside. The biggest concern with the team would be a reliance on younger guards like Jared McCain, Tyrese Proctor, and Dariq Whitehead (who is injured again).
(1) GONZAGA BULLDOGS
PG: Jalen Suggs, senior
SG: Nolan Hickman, junior
SF: Julian Strawther, senior
PF: Graham Ike, junior
C: Chet Holmgren, junior
Gonzaga doesn't have boatloads of NBA-level talent from a depth perspective, but they make up for it with good balance on both ends. Chet Holmgren in particular is a matchup nightmare given his unique ability to protect the rim on defense and stretch the floor on offense. I'd also give Gonzaga high marks for coaching and chemistry, as Chet Holmgren and Jalen Suggs were high school buddies back in Minnesota. Having played together for three (hypothetical) years now, they'd be a well-oiled machine by now. That said, the reliance on that 1-2 punch (as opposed to depth) may make this team vulnerability to foul trouble.
Gonzaga would be my pick anyway, but feel free to disagree with that or any of the other picks below.

2024.03.27 15:16 Infamous_Force2187 Any recommendations for intimate outdoor weddings?

This past fall I proposed to my Fiance and she said yes of course! But now comes the whole wedding planning. Truthfully, neither of us cares for any fanfare, and we do not want to be spending an absurd amount of money. We already have a house and love to travel, and would rather expenses go towards both of those things.
We are looking to do a small wedding, about 15 people, just immediate family. Hopefully somewhere outside, and then just go out to dinner with everyone there.
My first thought had been Gillette Castle, and then the Gelston aftwards, but we want to have our dog which the restaurant doesn't allow. And it is a bit far to then drop him off before dinner. (Cheshire area) So I am trying to find some other outdoor options kind of in the couple hundred dollar range to just rent a space for a ceremony. Issue is, I keep seeing suggestions for larger venues, or catering, and they still average into the few thousands of dollars. Anyone have suggestions for areas that don't charge too much just to rent for an hour or so? Thanks so much!

2024.03.26 00:28 EldritchCannoli Looking for the most interesting points of interest in Connecticut

Hi, Connecticut!
This is my next stop on my way to visiting the subreddits of every state in the United States, every province and territory of Canada, and every country across the rest of the world.
This isn't for any sort of website or blog. It's for my own personal edification, in case I'm ever able to make it to all of these great places. I'm hoping I'll be able to talk with some friendly people along the way in finding out about the most interesting points of interest in each place (or, at least, please be friendlier than Arizona who permanently banned me for asking this exact same question).
I have done a little bit of searching on my own already and have a small list of places I think would be interesting to see, but I would love to know more about what your state has to offer, and I thought it would be great to get those recommendations from people who live there.
I'm looking for any sort of point of interest, whether its a cool State Park, a monument, memorial, interesting building, historical point of interest, something offbeat and silly, scenic nature, or even a recurring event.
Here's what I have so far, and I'm hoping you can add to it!
  1. Mystic Seaport
  2. Yale University Campus
  3. Sleeping Giant State Park
  4. Gillette Castle State Park
  5. Goodspeed Opera House
  6. The West Cornwall Covered Bridge (we don't have these here in Florida. Some friends suggested this one and said it was cute)
I'm also doing a little food section, as well. From what I've uncovered, the four essential foods I should try in your state are the following. Let me know if this sounds right:
  1. Hot Lobster Roll
  2. Steamed Cheeseburger
  3. Clam Pizza

2024.03.23 17:56 TomGNYC Watching the NCAAs for Future Knicks

Here's a list of potential Knicks picks this coming NBA draft that are playing in the NCAAs if that gives you a little more fun watching these games. If the season were to end today, the Knicks would have the 20th (from the Mavs) and the 21st picks. I worked off of Sam Vecenie's latest mock and took the ten players up and down from 20. My personal favorites right now are probably Furphy, Clingan, Walter and Filipowski, though realistically, Clingan probably isn't dropping to 20 at this point. Dunn is a perfect fit for the Knicks, too, if they can fix his shot. I've put where Vecenie has them going in parentheses.

2024.03.21 19:56 ShoerguinneLappel This is a map of the Northeast US in my Holy American Empire timeline, description below, but feel free to ask questions.

This is a map of the Northeast US in my Holy American Empire timeline, description below, but feel free to ask questions.
1988, 2 years after the collapse of the United States of America

From the collapse of the US in 1986, several independent sovereign states formed, from the Treaty of Columbia (signed in Washington D.C.) which recognised states that had been created at the absence of the US, like this map shows the Northeast region which has been split into 18 newly formed sovereign states. Well over 1000 new sovereign states had formed from the collapse of the US, and with the collapsed of the former global power caused a power vacuum (which became even bigger after the collapse of the USSR in 1992), also with a fallen US there is significantly less food production and the economies are much smaller as well. Unlike our world where majority of the countries have capitalistic economies, there isn't a majority of countries following a particular economic system there is a lot more different types of economies in this timeline. Even without the US the world doesn't become communist for anyone wondering, it just means there are significant border changes, cultures, practices (separating culture from practices because this is about other parts of countries like I mentioned before like the economy), etc.
With the smaller food production the world does face a great depression and mass starvation, which means significant population decreases across the world which becomes worse after the collapse of the USSR, some sovereign states like the Upstate Empire were shortly lived (collapsed in 1988 as well, during the blizzard which killed 40% of it's population, when they had already lost 26% during the civil war, after 1988 it had fractured into many separate independent states). Unlike our world where it became globalised, in this one it never gets globalised and becomes more like the medieval period in terms of world interactions. Although technology goes back a bit, this world still has weapons like firearms.
Upstate Empire with it's capital in Syracuse (they were unable to take Albany from New York)
Margraviate of East Ohio with it's capital in New castle
Republic of Westlyvania with it's capital in Uniontown
Pittsburg, which it's capital is in Pittsburg
Republic of West Alleghany, it's capital is Warren
County of East Alleghany, it's capital is Sayre
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, it's capital is Harrisburg (and it's neighbours call it Harrisburg instead of Pennsylvania)
Kingdom of Philadelphia, it's capital is Philadelphia
Republic of New Jersey, it's capital is Trenton
Electorate Republic of Allentown, it's capital is Allentown
The Scrantonite Republic, it's capital is Honesdale
New York, it's capital is Albany
Republic of Connecticut, it's capital is Hartford
Republic of Vermont, it's capital is Montpelier
Commonwealth of Massachussetts, it's capital was recently moved to Worchester (originally Boston)
Rhode Island, it's capital is Bristol for military purposes, they had to fight both Massachussetts and Connecticut during the Second Civil War so they wanted it in a more secure position. They are the second strongest naval power in the Americas and one of the strongest in the world.
Kingdom of New Hampshire, it's capital is Concord
Kingdom of the Maniacs, it's capital is Augusta
PS, I am still making a full map for this alt timeline, this was a quick one to show you the general borders and to explain about what's on this map, the other one I'm in the process of drawing it which might take a while because it will include the world instead of the whole US or like this map just a region.

2024.03.20 04:26 GlueGuy00 Sam Vecenie Latest Mock Draft

https://theathletic.com/5337105/2024/03/19/nba-mock-draft-2024-march-madness/
"Based on my conversations with league sources across the spectrum, there is no clear No. 1 pick, and only a couple of players are even considered consensus top-five picks. The ultimate order will depend greatly on which teams end up in the top four of the NBA Draft Lottery."
"NBA team evaluators are still struggling to pinpoint the highest-upside players. Many compare it to the 2013 draft in which Anthony Bennett was selected No. 1, only one All-Star was taken in the lottery and only three All-Stars were picked the entire night"
"Beyond that, scouts continue to question the depth of this year’s talent pool. Scouts are really mining the college freshman class to uncover high-upside late first-round picks, even if those players are seen as serious projects. There are concerns some of those younger players who seem unlikely to be picked in the top 20 could decide to return to school and try their luck again in 2025."

2024.03.13 12:15 ctbro025 Stephon Castle writeup in The Athletic

I have a good feeling he's about to elevate his draft stock over the next few weeks.
Stephon Castle, 6-6 freshman guard, Connecticut
While Stephon Castle’s teammate, the massive sophomore Donovan Clingan, is a likely lottery pick, he’s also more of a known quantity at this point. (I wrote about Clingan after my visit to Hartford for UConn-Marquette last month.)
Castle is the more challenging evaluation for scouts, a one-and-done playing as the fifth option on a stacked Huskies team trying to repeat as national champions. He seems clearly capable of more but also has some offensive limitations that could hold him back even at the next level. Most notably, his jump shot is inconsistent — he’s at 30.1 percent from 3 on low volume and has a slow release that at times looks as though his arms are fighting each other.
However, Castle’s combination of size, ball skills and athleticism hints at bigger things. He wowed scouts with 14 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and nary a turnover in Connecticut’s rout of Providence this past weekend; on the season, he averages more than two dimes for every assist and, even with the giant Clingan soaking up so many boards, has an impressive 9.7 percent rebound rate in Big East play.
Castle could really push into the top half of the lottery with a strong March, especially because scouts are still catching up on him after he missed time early in the season with a knee injury. Given the strength of his team, he may still have nine more games to showcase himself.
