2024.06.08 07:59 StatisticianWest1163 Movie with Jon Voight as an author

I used to work with a security company and back in the early 2000's ..(maybe 2003 or 2004ish give or take) we did a job where they were filming a movie scene. It was in a public library and Jon Voight was playing an author doing a book signing. At the time I think we were told the movie was going to be called 'Sunrise' I don't know anything else about it, and I've never heard or seen anything to do with it in the 2 decades since.
library location was Kelowna BC Canada

2024.06.08 06:40 Miki_Inc Wondering about scheduled pregnancy doctor appointments in Kelowna

Hello, I moved to Kelowna about a year ago and I'm now expecting my second child. I'm unsure how the system here in BC is (or generally in Canada), and I don't have a family doctor. I went to a walk-in clinic and the doctor sent a referral for me to an OB/GYN. I'm only in week 5 but I'm wondering when I'm going to hear from them and when the first visit will be. I received a call to book a 'dating' ultrasound on week 11, but nothing else. Thanks for any info!

2024.06.07 21:33 tw3rkingtac0s Tenancy Advice Needed

Happy Sunny Friday!
I’m in a bit of a situation and could use some advice. I live in Surrey, BC, and my landlord is out of the country for the majority of the year. To preface, we were 3 people renting a basement suite for $2100. Recently in May, one person moved out, and at that time the landlord texted my current roommate asking if we could pay $1800 a month starting in June (rather than $1700 from when it was two people before). I’m pretty sure this is not allowed because:
  1. The increase exceeds the maximum allowable annual rent increase, even though it’s by a small percentage.
  2. We didn’t get proper notice to increase our rent, and we were asked over text—not using the required form (although I’m not entirely sure it’s a requirement to do so).
  3. We didn’t get a chance to sign a new lease before they left.
Additionally, we’ve had a broken dishwasher for several months now. The landlord came back to Canada briefly but left again without fixing it, despite knowing about the issue. When we’ve had issues with our plumbing (e.g., no toilet for two weeks, the ceiling leaking), there was no sense of urgency for repairs. However, they seem insistent on us sending an extra $100 for this month’s rent. On top of that, the landlord wrote in the lease that she can charge us $60 per month if we decide to use AC, which seems unreasonable considering BC Hydro’s website says it’s equivalent to about $20 a month at the recommended temperature. My landlord wrote in $60 before we even obtained one.
I have been nervous about reaching out to the RTB as I’ve heard they side with landlords a lot of the time. I’ve also been worried about contacting our landlord to discuss this, as she has yelled at the tenants that live in the suite next to us over the phone when their guest unknowingly parked in the wrong spot and has deleted messages over WhatsApp for all of us. This makes me even more worried to communicate with her about why rent can’t be raised that way.
I’m unsure about the best way to proceed, given that we feel we’ve been taken advantage of, considering we’re two young people new to renting and our landlord is over the age of retirement (and has been a landlord for several years before us).
My roommate and I have been looking for another place to live because there are some that are more spacious, new, and more accessible for what we have been paying. The only thing is that prices have gone up in the last few weeks, and it’s starting to feel like we might be stuck for a little bit.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? What steps did you take?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
TL;DR: My landlord, who is out of the country most of the year, is trying to raise our rent illegally without proper notice and beyond the legal limit. We’ve also had a broken dishwasher for months, and she’s trying to charge $60 extra per month for using AC. Looking for advice on what to do!

Sorry no pic. Was riding motorcycle down Munn and slowed down for what I thought was a deer. Nope, big mf Cougar crossing into the BC Hydro area.
Probably lots out there but keep an eye out if you're in the parks near there around sunset. Watch your little ones and or dogs.

2024.06.06 20:13 cropcomb2 BC Hydro's rates for 'time of day': For or Against?

To help avoid pressure to create new infrastructure, Hydro's encouraging us to avoid peak use hours (4-9pm?) through an optional participation in their: $0.05 surcharge/kwh, and, a reduction of $0.05/kwh for use between (11pm-7am?)
For me, it'll mean simply saving $5 a year by doing my water distilling overnight (for food fermenting/waterpik purposes). How about you? eg. If you've an electric car, of course overnight's the time to recharge it.
Will time of day be a plus for you or? (well, of course, postponing massive infracture creation by a decade or two is likely a nice tax break but I'm asking about your household's immediate usage impact)

2024.06.06 15:47 Embarrassed_Weird600 Have a look at this quote please

I’ve been back and forth on solar but where I am besides wildfires(interior,BC) we have good sun from how i understand
I’ve gotten almost a 5k less quote from star dust solar, but I’ve had some red flags. Even tho they promise longer warranty as well
This local company has a very good rep and I feel the piece of mind may be good It’s quoted for 31k now plus I get the federal grant. I think I can grind them down to be 25k all in So a bit over $2 a watt how i understand
I know the equipment is decent, not high end But what are your guys with experience thoughts?
Im south east lay out
They did the solar camera deal as well They are estimating at around 86 percent of my production but it will be higher I bet as I was using a 50 year old roof top mounted AC up till now
They tell me they are quite correct with calculations and tend to go to conservative numbers
Im like 90 percent in. It’s a pricey venture but with the loan it’s close to paying hydro costs anyways and if it indeed kicks up in price as I imagine like anything it will it should off set any production loss of the system
Thanks for any wisdom

2024.06.05 08:39 god-sucks-my-toes A question about my hydropond plant

A question about my hydropond plant
i have a schefflera and about a year ago i decided to keep her in water. (completly in water whithout the clay marbles, just water). she was the first, so i didnt know fully how healthy roots look. in the beginning everything went well, etc. but now she doesnt anymore bc i didnt clean the roots well enough and i guess the vase wasnt optimal too. she gets a good amount of light (i have an other hydro plant on the same spot and she is thriving)
now the roots look like this and i don’t know what to do bc i really really wanna keep her bc of emotional importance. yesterday i cleaned all the build up from the roots and she looked healthy again but in the evening/this morning this happend.
i hope sombody in this sub can help me out bc some parts r even a little green 🥺🫶

2024.06.05 04:40 RupertGustavson Banning AirBnB in BC is stupid.

Living in a tourist destination. Kelowna. Tried to go for a weekend to Richmond BC. Used to stay in a 2-3 bedroom place for $300 a night. ($900 for 3 nights for 4 adults). Just looked at hotels… 2 rooms and the cheapest hotel… $3000+. What is this airbnb ban doing to our local economy? How are families going to afford Kelowna with $500 to $1000 a night for 2 adults a night? We are going to lose on the tourist front. Yes. Said owner puts up their place for $3k+ a month… how is this helping an average low income family? People can’t afford it. Bring tourists in so we can generate revenue while employing people.

Vault Tec Regional HQ: Surry BC, occupied Canada

Sally Derkins Office terminal
Message to Hal Love:
Hey Hal, thanks again for granting me the requested vacation time last month! It’s been ages since I’ve had the chance to see my family.
Just a quick question, are we constructing a vault in the okanagan region? I can’t say I’m heard of any projects out that way yet when I arrived at my family’s place in Kelowna everyone was talking about this new Vault in the area. Unfortunately no one seems to know the number associated with it, however it was the talk of the town over there.
Apparently a bunch of people have already been pre-approved for entry.
Message to Hal Love 2:
Got off my phone with my mother. Yes I can confirm, in fact my family was one of the pre-approved families selected, even though I thought I had them set up for residence at Vault 1000.
Hal, given the nature of some of our “Vaults,” I would greatly appreciate it if you could find out the particular nature of this Vault in question.
My mother sounded off when I spoke to her on the phone. Like maybe she’d had an extra glass of wine but without slurring her words. I’ve got a really bad feeling Hal.
Message to Hal Love 3:
Understood, I’ll leave immediately.

Hal Love administrative terminal
Message to Sally Derkins 1
Hey Sally, great to hear you enjoyed your getaway!
To my knowledge no such Vault is under construction in the region. It’s possible however that this is being overseen by HQ directly so I’ll ask them.
I hope you understand with some of the more sensitive projects there’s always the possibility that the project itself is highly classified so I might not be able to divulge to much. I’ll look into it however.
Message to Sally Derkins 2:
Hey Sally, about that new Vault you mentioned in the Okanagan, can you just quickly confirm with your family they weren’t mistaken? Perhaps they heard of one of our other vault’s in the surrounding areas.
Message to Sally Derkins 3:
Sally.
I’ve contacted head office directly. Not only are they unaware of any vault in that region but they’ve requested us to investigate it on their behalf. According to Vault Tec, there is no vault in that region.
Officially I’m granting you another extended leave with pay. However I want you to return to the area and discover as much as you can. Likely this is just some local conman committing copyright infringement so let’s keep this under wraps until you have enough information for us to proceed.
On your desk should be the latest module of the new Pip Boy. You can use it to message me directly.
Please be safe Sally.
Message to Sally Derkins 4:
Sally I’m instructing you to leave the area immediately. Head office is sending in a team to handle the situation. Whatever this is, it’s bad.
Please notify me when you’re safely out of the area.
Message to Sally Derkins 5:
SALLY, DO NOT ENTER THAT VAULT!

Sally Derkins home office model Pip Boy
Message to Hal Love 1:
I’m just about off the highway Hal. They even have one of our promotional billboards put up just outside of the city. Whoever is doing this really isn’t being subtle about it.
It looks exactly like our typical promotional billboards, however it still doesn’t list a number for the Vault.
Message to Hal Love 2:
Hal, something is very wrong over here. There’s no one in town. At first I thought maybe it was just a slow day but when I got to my Parents place the door was wide open and no one was inside.
It looks like they all just packed their bags in a hurry and took off. On the table was one of our pre-approval pamphlets. Still no number but it has a location listed.
I’m heading there now. Still haven’t seen anyone in the city.
Message to Hal Love 3:
I found it Hal. I found the Vault. This was definitely not the work of a conman.
The door opened on its own, but I can’t see anything inside.
I need to know what happened to my parents Hal.

Sally Derkins Holotape*
The pin pan of metal can be heard as someone walks across a metal floor. A woman can be heard breathing anxiously.
Suddenly the footsteps stop, the woman can be heard gasping in shock.
Static overtakes the audio for approximately 5 seconds.
Gradually, footsteps can be heard again, however these appear to be the clip clop of horses traversing through mud.
“Hey! You! You’re finally awake.” Say’s an unidentified male.
Audio ends.

2024.06.04 20:58 ConcentrateTough1175 Hoya Advice

Hoya Advice
Hello Hoya heads- Is this a Pubicalyx? I found her at a local nursery for 24.99. Shes got some 😍 leaves already and theres tons of new growth all over the plant.
I did peek at the roots bc I know that they were overwaterers at Nursery and she was in a dark corner. People think because they adapt to low light...🙄... im just not that experienced yet with these. Do they look normal? Some look greenish and some look browish. I did see a few spots with root rot, does that mean I have to chop and prop the whole plant? Shes growing so thats a good sign right? I did spray with some Hydro Perox and I also did squeeze out some excess water with paper towels.
I really like her and want her to be happy. Right now I took her out of plastic pot and shes chillin in a clear orchid pot just to get some air flow.
What would you experienced peeps do if this was you? Can I let a little root rot go or should I get soil out and repot? Are they hardy plants?
Also, are those purpleish dots edema?
Thanks y'all!
