2024.05.17 10:04 Square_Custard1606 Running qz in the background

Had my fist try with the app today, a 30min indoor spinbike ride.
The app worked great and i watched a youtube video that lasted for about 25minutes, going back to the app it was still tracking nicely. I started another video that lasted the last 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes i went back to qz to stop the timer only to realise it reset at 00:00 when i opened it back up, and the whole workout was gone, when i stopped it recorded 7seconds to strava..
Is there some setting to force it to keep recording in the background for longer. Android, samsung oneUI 6.1.

2024.05.17 09:39 freebeerz Surface pro 7 or 8?

Hi, I have been looking for a linux compatible tablet for a while to replace a samsung 11" Android tablet (too frustrating to do any meaningful work on it) and it seems the SP is still the best choice for the moment in that form factor.
I'm hesitating between buying a refurbished sp7 or sp8. I looked at the compatibility matrix and it seems a bit more stuff is supported out of the box on the 7 but I wouldn't mind a more recent model assuming the battery might be in a better condition.
Important features for me: * Usb C charging * Working hibernation (or at least deep sleep with memory saved on disk) * Ideally works well with kde * Bluetooth working well (I see some models have hibernation issues if a bt device is connected?) * Camera isn't important for me
Thanks for your input!

2024.05.17 09:10 meonlineoct2014 Gemini Nano: On-device AI solution

Gemini Nano: On-device AI solution
I watched few videos from this year's Google I/O sessions 2024, and it seems there is a significant emphasis on artificial intelligence, or AI-related topics. As an Android developer, I found the discussion on Gemini Nano particularly relevant. It appears to be a valuable tool for us to develop AI-specific applications.
I've spent some time on the topic, and here are my findings so far, which I would like to share with all of you.
On Android, now we can deliver rich generative AI experiences without needing a network connection or sending data to the cloud. On-device AI is a great solution for use-cases where low latency, low cost, and privacy safeguards are the primary concerns.
Imagine an educational apps, we can create interactive learning experiences with on-device question answering or personalized tutoring functionalities. During the demo in Google IO session, they shown the recording app and how it was using Gemini Nano features for text interpretation. So, the possibilities are wide and wild.
If we need to develop a sentiment detection or mood analysis app that handles private and sensitive data without relying on the Internet, it’s essential to choose a solution that can perform complex AI tasks locally on the device. And this a use case which Gemini Nano seems to be addressing.
Let's understand the Gemini Nano's architecture in more details,
  • To use Gemini Nano in your app, you need Google AI Edge SDK. This software development kit from Google provides the tools and APIs needed for your Android app to interact with AlCore and run Gemini Nano on the device.
  • Gemini Nano runs in Android's AICore system service, which leverages device hardware to enable low inference latency and keeps the model up to date. Android AICore is a new system service in Android 14 that provides easy access to Gemini Nano. AICore handles model management, runtimes, safety features and more, simplifying the work for you to incorporate AI into your apps.
  • LORA (Low-Rank Adaptation): This is an optional block that you can use to fine-tune the performance of Gemini Nano for your specific application's needs. It essentially tailors the model to your app's unique use case.
  • Safety Features: Built into AlCore are safety features designed to evaluate Gemini Nano's outputs against Google's safety filters. This helps mitigate potential risks associated with using AI models.
  • TPU/NPU Accelerator: This refers to Tensor Processing Unit or Neural Processing Unit hardware that can be present on some Android devices. These specialized processors can accelerate the performance of AI tasks handled by Gemini Nano, making them run faster and more efficiently.

The diagram depicts how your Android app can interact with AlCore through the Google AI Edge SDK to leverage Gemini Nano's on-device AI capabilities.
LORA allows for fine-tuning the model, and safety features ensure responsible AI use.
The excitement was palpable, so I decided to experiment with Gemini Nano on my Android phone through Android Studio. I planned to test some quick use cases such as text summarization and sentiment analysis utilizing Gemini Nano's capabilities, but there was a catch.
Unfortunately, Gemini Nano isn't quite ready for every Android device or emulator just yet. As of May 2024, Gemini Nano and the required AICore system service are only available on specific devices: Google Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung S24 Series. While wider support is planned, it hasn't rolled out yet. Currently, there's no way to run Gemini Nano directly on an Android emulator to the best my knowledge.
But hopefully in a coming days and weeks, we should be getting more support on other Android devices.

2024.05.17 09:00 Tiamala 30[F4R]- US/Online - I think I'll take my whiskey neat... My coffee black and my bed at three.. You're NOT too sweet for me..

Hahahha that song has been playing all day in my head.
Hello Fellow redditors!
Sorry for the weird format ...umm blame it on my android phone! (Apple sucks)... Samsung please sponsor me.... lol
Ok....so as you can tell I'm a little over the place. You can blame it on my medication but I blame it on my hyper focused brain.
Let's play a scenario game since I love random chats with strangers online.... especially if you have an European accent.
Scenario 1: You can break one law but the law you break will be used against your mom...which law would you break?
Scenario 2: what fruit would you be and what do you taste like?
Scenario 3: You are stuck in a dungeon....but it's a Femdom one and the dominan is German ....but she is a grandma....do you escape or choose pleasure?
Scenario 4: You create a scenario for me ...

2024.05.17 08:56 anontemp234123 The Nothing Experience

So, I've had the Nothing Phone 2 and the Nothing Ear 2 for a while now. In my several months of use, the Nothing Phone 2 has been one of the worst phone experiences I've had.
I've been using Samsung phones for most of my life (I also used an iPhone 14), and looking for something more unique, I decided to try the Nothing Phone 2. In the past few months (half a year at this point), I have found the user experience to be one of the worst phones I have used.
  1. Incredibly buggy OS. Android is probably part of the problem as well. Still, the number of times when the phone completely shits itself is just incredible. I would use the fingerprint sensor or press the power button only to have an unresponsive screen showing the home screen with the fingerprint layout (Not the lock screen, the home screen). Media control could be better, with picture-in-picture and background play often a nightmare. The Glyph integration is just a joke at this point. It doesn't work most of the time, and when it does, it doesn't serve any purpose. The Glyph system is more a marketing gimmick than anything, and most users agree it's useless.
  2. Bluetooth. Even when using the Nothing Ear 2, a product in the same ecosystem as the Nothing Phone 2, it quite often takes a very long time to connect or doesn't connect until I try the connection several times. While you might say it's not much work, dealing with issues like this regularly, especially during a busy day, ruins the user experience. There is also an issue with volume control, where volume adjustment is far too drastic, even when absolute volume control is turned off in Android developer settings.
  3. Build quality and design. It's expected for the price point and can be avoided when using a case, but the phone's aluminum edges do nothing to protect it when it drops. The Nothing Ear 2 is of similar build quality, and the earphone case, while unique, is incredibly difficult to carry due to its shape and volume. Due to the square design, it is also only possible to open the lid from the correct side by looking, making it a hassle to open it in your pockets. The Nothing Phone 2 is quite big, making this a deal breaker for those with smaller hands. Trying to use the Nothing Phone 2 with one hand is quite difficult.
The best way to summarize the Nothing experience would be unique but pointless. If you are really invested in the aesthetics of your devices, it might be worth it, but I can't recommend the Nothing Phone 2 and Ear 2 to anyone looking for a quality product.
At the end of the day, this was based on my personal experience so please let me know if there are fixes for the problems listed above or anything I should know.

2024.05.17 08:38 Oceismith Terrible Samsung Secure Folder support [Android]

Description: Please put some effort into proper support for Samsung Secure Folder. It keeps logging out at intervals between a few hours to a few days at random. This has been an issue for at least a year, but after the latest update, it no longer remembers even my user name when I reopen the app. Very annoying!
Device model: All of my Samsung phones. OS version: Android 14
Steps to reproduce: just open the app, good luck.
Expected and actual result: I expect it to stay logged in, it does not.

2024.05.17 08:33 aslanfrompak Instagram is only showing the default filters on stories, so, all my bookmarked filters are gone and cannot even search for new ones. Just gives a pop-up saying 'some filters are unavailable', only on android!

It's been almost 3 days now, and all the filters are gone on my main account. If I log into any other account, in same app, on same phone, everything is fine. I have a Samsung phone, and I logged into my account on a friend's iPhone and everything was normal there, all the filters and my bookmarked filters were there. Even all the features that are not available on my main account (cutouts, adding saved music to story, which are btw also available if I log into any other account on my Samsung) were available on my account on iPhone. So, I guess Instagram just hates android? THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!!!

2024.05.17 06:11 lyricalfantasy120 Need help goodnotes on android

Hello everyone! I got a Samsung Tab A9+ yesterday and I plan to use it for note taking. I bought a universal pen that's works ok with it. I heard raving things about Goodnotes and I really wanted to try it! But I noticed that I can't chose a font and then begin writing in a blue box where Goodnotes takes what you write in the blue box and turns it into text in your chosen font :c I was wondering if it's just because I'm using the free trial or because that feature is not available on Android? Also if I can't get that feature on Goodnotes on android, is there any other apps for android users that allows you to have that same feature as Goodnotes? Please help me, thank you!

2024.05.17 04:03 Girldad482 Outlander connection problems:

For the last few months I haven't been able to connect to android auto on my 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander. This started happening after the battery died, and I had to replace it. It used to connect with no problem through wireless and USB cable. Now it does not recognize my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G) through wireless settings. The USB cable now just cycles power on my phone, not giving Android Auto any time to make a connection. This used to not be a problem either. Is it possibly the USB cable? Or the port in my car? I've pulled the fuse to the radio and it hasn't fixed the issue. I have yet to try to disconnect the battery to see if that helps. Any advice?? Thanks guys. (Also, if I hit the voice button it tells me "Currently initializing voice recognition")

2024.05.17 03:55 Flimsy_Basket_6782 Anyone else experiencing SOME missed messages?

Hi! Has anyone else been experiencing missed messages? It's baffling because i am receiving SOME messages from people, but missing other messages they are sending.
I have an Android (Samsung S22 Ultra). I also have AT&T and am U.S. based.
I first noticed it when I was texting my brother (iphone) – I sent him a text and didn't get a response. The next day, he sent me a text basically following up—apparently he replied to my text but I didn't receive it.
Today, I was in a group chat with 4 people (mix of iphones and androids). They were sending a bunch of texts within an hour span, and I recieved only 3 of the messages (one from each member). It's so random.
Here's what I have troubleshot so far:
  • Restart Phone (waited 1 min before restarting)
  • Cleared my Google Messages cache
  • Checked my Messages spam folder
  • Checked my phone and network settings (not in airplane mode, sim managers are correct settings.
Any insights into what is happening?

2024.05.17 03:31 Spine21 What's wrong with my phone?

I recently stumbled across my samsung s6 and tried to turn it on. I've had this issue with it since 2018, maybe? One day it was updating and then it froze. It will turn on flash "Samsung Galaxy S6 powered by Android" then go to a blue screen with little android guy "Installing System Update". It will then go black and start over. How do I fix this? Want to have a back up phone just in case.

2024.05.17 02:54 Educational_Crab_860 What to do with the tablet ?

I am primarily an apple user and recently couldn't resist some great deals from Samsung, ended up with a set of S23 ultra, tab s9+ and buds 2 pro. While they are awesome and cool devices I struggle to find anything useful to do with them, other than having it as a backup maybe. The experience of the apps on iOS, if it exists on both platform, are not that different from Android. What might be something interesting to play with the Samsung devices ?
