2024.05.02 17:18 Oldwatchesaresuper Wtf was the fill in the blank bs in the combined science paper 😭🫠

I don’t think a paper has ever been so shit for me. Those fucking fill in questions have NEVER appeared on a previous past paper and some of them were about as open ended as a convertible car 🥲
But fr tho, those fill in questions barely were “questions”. It’s was like a severely humbling quiz game sent straight from the depths of hell (aka, the Cambridge examiners writing office)
Oh and also I swear we barely get enough time like there literally was not enough time for anyone to go and take a piss 😭
Does anyone feel like they genuinely did good at that paper or is everyone just trying to convince themselves they did okay when really we all know that we yapped like crazy 💀

2024.05.02 16:45 OverwhelmedAutism What If The World Didn't End After Inevitable

For context, I've been watching a lot of Star Wars What ifs recently. Things like "What if Order 66 failed?" Things like that. I decided to do my own fan fiction, but with Hatchetfield. This is all just for fun, and isn't canon. Hope you all enjoy.
Paul walks out to meet Emma. Emma is overjoyed to see him alive. As they embrace, Paul starts to sing. As it turns out, Paul didn’t stop the hive, he had been infected. Paul and the members of the hive sing Inevitable. Emma tries to flee but is unsuccessful. When the song ends, Emma screams for help as they drag her away. The hive throws Emma to the ground in the hallway of the hospital. The infected Bill, Ted, Nora, and Mr. Davidson hold her limbs down. Paul stands over Emma, smiling at her, eyes completely blue. He asks Emma why she isn’t happy. He’s happy. Emma yells at him, “You’re not Paul. You’re a fucking alien. You killed Paul. I don’t love you.” She is trying to stall, by herself more time so that anyone might be able to save her. Paul tries to make Emma calm down, but Emma resists. Eventually, the hive realizes what Emma is doing, and Paul proclaims “I am done monologuing.”
BANG! BANG! Two gunshots sound. Emma and the hive look up in shock to see infected Hidgens slowly fall to the ground, two bullet holes in his chest. Colonel Schaffer has a pistol in her hand at the end of the hall. She is joined by two people. One is a young boy in a green Clivesdale Chemists jacket, a shotgun in his hands. The other is a woman in a denim jacket and jeans, holding a revolver. The three open fire on the hive. Paul takes the brunt of the gunfire, his body knocked off its feet in a barrage of bullets. Bill, Ted, Mr. Davidson, and Nora release Emma as they get shot. The nurse dodges the first shots and tries to bite Emma’s leg. She’s shot in the head. Schaffer calls out “You alright, Kelly?” “I’m fine,” said Emma. The boy and woman come over to Emma. The woman is cautious, but the boy looks into Emma’s eyes and nods. “She’s not infected.” They help her to her feet. “General MacNamera has been flying infected citizens from Hatchetfield over to Clivesdale via helicopter,” said Schaffer. “We’re assuming the hive is trying to lower the bridge between us and them. We have to stop it.”
All around Clivesdale, the citizens are trying to get to safety or fight the hive. Bill’s ex runs out of her house, shutting the door on an infected, only to find herself cornered by more infected outside. A helicopter lands in a lot behind a Burger King. A man runs out to intercept it. He fires a handgun at the chopper, killing the pilot on the first shot. He then takes down the members of the hive on board. A girl in the high school is pinned by an infected P.E.I.P. agent. Another girl and boy come and kill the agent, but the girl is already dead. They shoot her head and lock her in a closet.
Back at the hospital, Emma and the others are making their way to the lobby. The boy introduces himself as Mitch, a senior at Clivesdale High. The woman's name is Skarloey. She reveals that she drives the ambulance, but was off for the day. Emma reveals her real name and that she’s the only survivor from Hatchetfield. Schaffer tells them to shut up. In the lobby is General MacNamera and four P.E.I.P. agents, looking for anyone. Mitch asks Emma, “Do you know how to shoot?” Emma hesitates, “Sure?” Mitch takes a handgun from his jacket and hands it to her. They wait a moment. “Now,” said Schaffer. The four of them pop out and open fire on the infected. MacNamera goes down instantly. The other agents aren’t able to react fast enough. Only one manages to fire off one shot before dying. The four of them run out of the lobby and into Skarloey’s car. “We got to get to the bridge,” said Schaffer. “We cannot let them lower it.”
Five helicopters carrying more members of the hive fly overhead. Citizens look up to see the arrival of more infected. BOOM! One of the choppers is blown out of the air. The remnants of P.E.I.P., along with other military reinforcements, were able to set up some artillery to take the choppers out. Another helicopter is blown up. Across the town, the few infected that made it across are falling. Because the hive has gotten more violent, they don’t resort to luring people in that much. Also, Hatchetfield knows little about the town, other than that they hate it. The citizens of Clivesdale fight back, managing to kill every member of the hive that flew in. Emma notices the explosions in the air as they drive. “Looks like you got some help.” Schaffer chuckles, “Those of us that are left were able to set up a solid defense. They reacted quickly.” They watch as the last few helicopters are blown up. “Let’s hope they did the same with the bridge.”
Sadly, they didn’t. The few soldiers at the bridge got there too late, and all of them were caught off guard. The citizens were able to show up and kill the hive members there, but the bridge had already begun to lower. Schaffer, Emma, Mitch, and Skarloey pull up in the car not far from the bridge, ready to help defend. An agent runs over, “We can’t stop it, Colonel. They sabotaged the controls. That bridge is coming down.” Schaffer sighs, “Alright, we’ll just have to kill them all.” Mitch grabs a rifle from a fallen soldier and tosses the shotgun to Skarloey. Emma turns around to see several citizens arriving to help defend. They have guns, bats, knives, and even grenades. She’s almost shocked.
CRASH! The bridge has finally lowered. The crowd goes quiet, waiting to see anything. On the other side of the bridge, there is a faint chanting. It grows louder and louder. The infected have begun to cross the bridge. As they get closer, people begin to hear what they are singing. “Fuck you, Clivesdale!” The townsfolk are confused. Mitch raises an eyebrow, “What the?” “The hatred runs deep,” says Emma. “Don’t ask.” They are getting closer. Some of them are starting to move faster. There are far too many for all of them to deal with. They would be overwhelmed. But they know that they have no choice, if they want to survive, they have to hold them back.
Emma takes a deep breath, “I am not going to die here. Not in Clivesdale.” She raises her gun into the air and yells, “FUCK YOU, HATCHETFIELD.” The crowd yells and charges down the street, towards the bridge. The infected are moving faster now, sensing what is coming. They sing in unison, about taking over, how unstoppable they are, and that they’ll “fucking kick their asses.” Mitch, Skarloey, Schaffer, and many of the people reach the edge of the bridge. They aim and begin to fire. The infected at the front start to drop like flies. As more people arrive, the faster the infected fall. But, there are still too many to hold off. Grenades are thrown and some infected are blown up. Mitch reloads his rifle and continues to fire. The infected keep advancing. They’ve gotten too close now. They will overpower them soon. The crowd starts to back up. They start running out of ammo. The infected are almost at the edge of the bridge.
WOOSH! Two jet planes fly overhead. They pass over the bridge and the town of Hatchetfield. The people and the hive turn and watch as the bombs drop on the Starlight Theatre. BOOM! The massive explosion goes from orange and black to blue. The essence of the meteorite and the blue shit has been destroyed. The crowd watches in awe. The explosion starts to rise, the sky seemingly pulling the blue shit away from the earth. Emma notices a blue light coming out of the faces of the hive. Almost as if the blue is fading from them. The blue light is sucked into the sky and is gone.
The crowd stands there, stunned. At the same time, several of the citizens of Hatchetfield fall to the ground. Some lie dead, others struggle for breath. Those still standing look around in shock, wondering how they got there. Emma notices one of the few people standing at the front. It’s a woman in a nurse's outfit, with long, red hair. She turns to the crowd and drops with her hands over her. “Please,” cried Becky Barnes. “Don’t shoot me!” The crowd is uncertain, but Mitch notices her sclera (white of the eye) is white, not blue. “She’s not infected anymore,” he said. But even Mitch was uncertain. Then, they noticed a corpse at the front. Their blood was previously blue but had now turned red. The infection was gone.
P.E.I.P., the medical personnel in Clivesdale, and any Hatchetfield citizen that had recovered worked to set up sites to nurse the citizens back to health. There are stretchers, beds, and cots everywhere. The agents and medics are doing whatever they can to try to save the citizens. Emma walks with Mitch and Skarloey. “I can’t believe this.” Skarloey turns to her, “Tell me about it.” Emma pauses, “No, not about the hive, about you all.” Mitch and Skarloey stare at her. “We hated you guys,” Emma explained. “We did not like you. I never really knew why. Now I’m here, that hatred makes no fucking sense.” Mitch and Skarloey stare and then laugh. “We almost died, people are still dying now, and you decide that you want to tell us the Hatchetfield hates Clivesdale?” Emma shrugs. “Guess so, don’t have much else to do.”
Then, she notices someone. On a stretcher not far from her is a man with dirty blonde hair, a beard, and a red and black flannel. “Tom!” Tom Houston turns away from Becky Barnes to see Emma. She runs over to him. “Hey, Emma,” said Tom. “Good to see you.” He grunts as he tries to sit up. Becky puts a hand on his shoulder. “I’m alright, Beck. What happened, Emma?” “You became a musical alien,” said Emma. Tom’s winces, “So I’ve been told.” Emma tries to distract. “Is Tim ok?” As if on cue, Tom’s son walks up to Emma and grabs her leg. She turns and smiles at him, hugging the boy. Tim then goes over and hugs his dad. “I’m so glad you’re alive, Dad.” Tom pats his son on the back, “Me too, bud. Me too.” He looks up at Emma. She smiles and embraces both of them. Becky Barnes smiles at them. “I’ll leave you three for now.”
The next few days were interesting. Zoey Chambers, who somehow managed to survive the helicopter crash, was able to recover early. Emma revealed to her that their boss, Zoey’s boyfriend, and his wife were dead. Tom and Tim recovered early. After a day or two, Tom and Becky decided to get back together. Tim liked Becky and was happy to have her there. After finding Tom, Ethan Green and Hannah Foster learned that Lex Foster died during the charge. This seemed to be too much for Ethan, as while he seemed to recover early on, he wasn’t able to keep it together and died a few days later. Hannah had to confide in Webby to keep her spirit up. Tom and Becky, feeling awful for Hannah, Ethan, and Lex, decide to take care of Hannah. Tim welcomed the idea of having an older sister. Alice Woodward woke up asking where her father was. Emma told her what Paul had said, that Alice killed Bill herself. She then mentioned that Bill was present at the hospital, where he was gunned down. Alice had already found out that her mother had been infected and killed, while Deb died of gunfire. She was overcome with grief and spent the rest of her time looking for anyone she knew. Miss Holloway recovered right away, and with her help, she was able to nurse many people back to health, including Duke. The two spent most of their time together. Mark and Karen Chasity found that their daughter, Grace, had failed to recover. Mayor Solomon Lauter woke up with an injured leg. The body of his daughter, Steph, was never found. Melissa was one of the last people to recover. She became heartbroken when she found out that Paul was dead. The agents had to make sure she wouldn’t harm herself.
During those few days. Emma was spending her time with Tom. One day, she mentioned the plot of land in Colorado that had been granted to her by P.E.I.P. She told Tom that she wanted to start a pot farm, but now wanted to focus on getting everyone on track. She asked Tom if they would come with her to Colorado, to start over. He agrees with her, although still sketched out by the idea of a pot farm. Emma promises him that she is done with weed, for now. Emma Perkins, Tom Houston, Tim Houston, Becky Barnes, and Hannah Foster move to Colorado. Emma, with assistance from P.E.I.P., manages to let her leg heal and get back on her feet. She decides to go back to school to pursue a different career. Becky remains in the medical industry and Tom gets back into teaching. Tim and Hannah grow super close, with Webby at their side. As they get older, Hannah starts to distance herself from Webby, but Tim manages to convince her to not let Webby go. Emma graduates from college and gets a job working at a bank. Tom and Becky get married around the time Emma graduates. Hannah is in her sophomore year of high school while Tim entered the 7th grade. The five of them are sad for what they lost back in Hatchetfield, but at least they didn’t end up dying there nor in Clivesdale. At least for now, they are safe and happy.

2024.05.02 16:34 dlgn13 Jack is the thing that's funny about Jack's videos.

I remember when Jack published The YIAY Book back in 2017. Upon seeing it, my thought was "Why would I buy that?" I imagine other people thought the same thing, since it didn't sell too well. But on the other hand, why wouldn't I buy it? After all, it had lots of YIAY answers, and I like YIAY. Well, it's missing the thing that actually makes YIAY good: Jack.
When Be Funny Now came out, I briefly checked it out and...yeah. If you've played it at all, you know how unfunny the public lobbies are. Pithee is a little better, but not by much.
On the other hand, I attended YIAY Live Live with my brother when Jack came to Portland, and we had so much fun! The energy was crazy. The contestants' answers were good, but not great, so that isn't what brought the energy. What brought the energy was Jack. Him losing his mind on stage after being eliminated in the first round, playing Jack To The Future during breaks, trading light-hearted jabs with the audience, and drinking a random drink someone put on the stage for him.
Every time I see Jack announce a new big project, I hope that it's one involving him directly. Because, jokey insults aside, he's funny. Really funny. Honestly, he's probably my favorite comedian. What makes his best YIAY, YGS, and Jackask videos so electric is his fantastic interaction with his audience members' responses. They provide the tinder, but he brings the spark to set it ablaze. This is also why his rarer sketch videos are such a treat.
In the past year or two, Jack has stepped back a bit, relinquishing some creative control. He has editors who edit videos in their own style; answers are picked by his creative council; and he's started filming his videos live on Twitch, where he can't really script things out or do extra takes of most things. The people he works with are generally talented and can be pretty funny. But this new way of making videos seriously limits the ability of Jack's own comedic sensibilities to shine through. It starts to feel like there are too many cooks in the kitchen, as it were. It's kind of like Binging with Babish, which started to lose cultural relevancy around the time Andrew Rea turned his little show into a whole production company.
I'm not a comedian—not even close. I don't know what the business is like, or what kind of workflows are most effective for people, and I certainly can't claim any knowledge on how creative inspiration presents itself. And one thing I love about Jack as a comedian is that he's always trying new things. Whenever a style starts to get stagnant, he moves on. After making parodies for a while, he started YGS. Then he started YIAY while waiting for YGS 100, and it became his new big thing. It eventually started to get stale, though, and he switched over to the blind format, which revitalized his channel a great deal. He did quiz collabs for a bit, then started a movement against content theft, and now he's making fun of AI.
I don't want him to "go back" to his old style. Really, I don't want him to do anything specific; he's the creative here, not me. I just miss seeing Jack's own comedy be the driving force behind his content. With projects like BFN as well as the changes in his video production process, it seems like he's trying to take the concept of video series like YIAY and bring more people into the loop of making comedy. But the concepts aren't what is funny about them. He is.* And I wish we could see more of that.
*(And Erin. She blows him out of the water. But that's not important.)

2024.05.02 16:30 SchreiberBike Best mushroom and Swiss burger in the area

I've not had a really good mushroom and Swiss burger since I went to the Pine Tree Supper Club in Tomahawk years ago, and it's too far for a meal. The one at Cafe Hollander is good, but I want a really good one. Where should I go?

2024.05.02 16:29 nobody77899 Can any professional tell me if im a psychopath?

Can any professional or someone tell experienced or maybe a psychiatrist tell me if im a psychopath by my triats as mentioned below:-
  1. I've always felt different, hated people for no reason at all have violent tendencies, I've always felt like I've had very less emotions like social emotions its zero i dont feel happy if someone close to me is happy, I've always wore a mask by hiding my true self since younger age i always have had good social skills and always blend in with crowd so no one knows who i really am. I've high level of intelligence and my brain started to get mature at very young age.
  2. I dont feel i love anyone, even though i dont hate my family still i feel a little connected to them but i won't say i love them, i have learnt what real love is or definition of it i dont certainly match that criteria for anyone, it might be with my gadgets though idk honestly
  3. When i was in 8th grade i stole things 2 times like carried out a meticulously planned... ig? It was nothing big, it was some online game money stuff, where people spent money for that thing but i stole it from them (lets not go in details) i had zero remorse or regret rather i was impressed by my plan, my skills, my intelligence and kept reminiscing my plan for months, one thing i know for sure im a narcissist, but i dont match criteria for the definition one, im different but i do things for only self interest.
  4. I've dated like 4 girls started from 6th grade. The recent one i know i clearly know i did for being seen as normal she was part of my mask. She was only physically appealing to me. I never felt bond with her rather did some sadistic mind games with her without her noticing even learned more about humans and humanity. She was only like a stuff or possession to me when i came to knew she was cheating on me (again i manipulated her to confess truth) i was totally indifferent even i was eating K.F.C's burger that night while watching movie totally chilling, her mother came to knew and she was totally sad and being scolded even her mom talked to me but i couldn't care less. I felt nothing rather i was enjoying doing whatever tf i want it was longest relationship of my life lasted like 6-7 months. I totally ghosted her even when she approached me in school. Fucking heartless right?....
  5. I've many more incidents i would rather leave that things alone.
  6. I have no shame, respect for others too i fake it. My family seems normal while im literally too different from my family and how they are. I never care to be alone i enjoy being alone. I have ambitions i would do anything to achieve my goals even if it means hurting others i do not care. Though im pretty cold, calculating, fearless i always keep my social behaviour in control. And i think im pretty much in control too.
  7. I've recently discovered term psychopathy and aspd and fuck the first time i took test online one i qualified without even knowing what exactly psychopathy is i saw it was basically like serial killers and all just like hollywood shows. I then researched about it more and i had so many matching terms. In leverson self report one i dont remember if im spelling it true i scored 5 on primary and 3.6 on secondary. In hare checklist i score 31. My many physical and mental triats match aspd.
I have so many more things like early behaviour problems i even almost ran away from my house when i was 5 idk why but someone who knew my parents caught me and sent me back to my parents my mother tells me this idk wtf was that though. My mother wasn't focusing on me while we were out and i slipped away idk how tf. I dont find things weird or disgusting but this was actually weird coming from me. Please if anyone can determine if im a psychopath cause i dont wanna go to a fucking psychiatrist or get brain scanned its like i dont wanna change at all. And i promise i have criminal tendencies but i wont be one after 18 i never did any crime that would hurt anyone & i feel like i have zero conscience too still i hate many people for no reason i really dont wanna change and i kinda enjoy being a psycho or a deviant but I'll cause no harm thats what i promise. Im 19 though i used my skills and my intelligence for my own succes i run a business and have good money.......

2024.05.02 16:20 Federal_Machine692 Payback

I was just returning back from another interview. It has been the third one this month.
I failed to make the cut yet again.
Life hasn’t been easy for an ex-soldier with the economic downturn currently underway.
The COVID pandemic had also wiped out all my savings.
So I was open to securing any job that would help me pay my bills.
I hadn’t eaten all day and just passed by a McDonalds. It was crowded and I thought to myself, ‘Let me just order a takeout’.
I could see a few vehicles waiting in front of me.
There was a guy in his motorcycle honking incessantly demanding the customer in front to keep it moving.
He was a tall man with long hair and clearly looked edgy and irritable. Both his arms were heavily tattooed. He stepped down from his bike and started to walk towards the car in front of him.
I couldn’t make out what he way saying but I could see the conversation was getting heated.
I got down from my car and walked towards the biker guy.
As I got closer, the biker banged on the hood of the car and was pointing his finger at the man threateningly.
The guy in the car was looking a little alarmed. He had a young boy seated next to him.
The woman working at the driveway counter appealed to the biker to maintain his cool. He would hear none of it.
She then proceeded to call the police and this made the biker more irate. He snatched the receiver from her and hit her face with it. She fell backwards and started bleeding from the nose.
The biker then proceeded to turn his gaze towards the man in the car. He opened the door and dragged the guy outside.
He drew his hand back to throw a punch at him.
I caught his arm from behind and kicked him hard in the shins. He yelped in pain and let go of the other man.
He then turned back angrily to take a look at me. He was wearing a black jacket with the name Kenny embossed in front.
I said, “Listen Kenny. I have had a really bad day. So you either stop this madness or I am going to break your bones.”
He snarled and threw a punch at me with all his might. I swerved to the right and ducked just in time, causing him to miss completely.
Next, he whipped out a switch blade from his pocket and lunged towards me with it. I side stepped him and counterattacked with a punch to his plexus. He went down on one knee.
I caught hold of his knife arm and ordered him to drop it.
“Drop the knife kenny!! This is your last warning”, I repeated.
He started to fidget with his other arm around his shoe. I realized he had another weapon hidden in his sock.
So before he could attempt anything else, I twisted his forearm and landed a crushing blow to his elbow. It snapped into two and he lay on the floor yelping in pain.
By this point, other people came forward to intervene and help with the situation.
As Kenny was being led away by the police, he kept staring at me with madness in his eyes.
“I am coming back for you. This is going to be the biggest regret of your life”, he yelled.
I didn’t care and started going back to my car.
Then the man who was threatened by Kenny came forward and shook my hand.
“Hi. I am Rupert. That is my son Henry”, he said.
I waved my hand at the boy and he waved back.
“I would like to thank you for what you did for me back there”, he said.
“You not only helped me maintain my dignity but also helped me save face in front of my son”, he continued.
“This means a lot to me as a dad” he said.
I nodded in acknowledgement not sure what I was to add to the conversation.
He then reluctantly asked,” Is there anything I can do to repay the favour? Please feel free to ask . Anything. I would be most grateful.”
I thought for a moment. I could see the man was wealthy.
“If it’s not too much of an ask, I would appreciate a job if available. If you feel that is difficult, no problem. Forget I asked. No worries.” I said.
He smiled back at me warmly. He reached into his pocket and handed me a card.
“Please come to my office tomorrow. We can talk” he signed off.
From that moment on, I became the personal bodyguard and chaperone of his 8 year old son Henry. We immediately hit it off and became pals. I looked after all his son’s travelling arrangements.
We would also go to McDonalds every week for his favourite Burger and fries. I later learnt that his father was a very wealthy man who made most of his money during the dot com bubble.
I also became friends with the female employee at the driveway counter who had earlier been attacked by that biker punk Kenny.
Her name was Stella and it didn’t take very long for the two of us to start dating.
With a fulfilling job and a loving girlfriend by my side, my life was finally back on track. I couldn’t be happier.
And then one day - it all came crashing.
Henry and I as usual visited the McDonalds joint and I was surprised to see Stella missing at the counter.
I asked the staff about her and they said she hadn’t turned up today.
I thought that was weird. She had stayed over at my place and I saw her leave for work in the morning.
I tried calling her number but it was unreachable.
I dropped Henry at home and headed towards Stella’s apartment.
She had given me a spare key and I opened the door with it. Everything was in its place.
I tried her number again. It remained not reachable.
I decided to go back to my apartment to check if she might be there.
When I reached the door, I could see the lock had been smashed. The door was left slightly open.
I took out my side arm and slowly entered the apartment.
I could see a life size figure of Ronald McDonald the clown sitting on my sofa.
The famous mascot was sitting cross legged with one arm resting on the backrest. Just like how he likes to sit on benches outside McDonald outlets all across the world.
I was a little taken aback, but quickly switched on the lights to take a closer look.
As I moved closer, my knees buckled under my own weight.
It was Stella. She was the one who was dressed as the clown.
There were injury marks around her neck. She had been strangled to death.
I managed to call the cops while still reeling from the shock.
I also noticed her right hand which was resting on her thigh, was close fisted. When I pried it open, there was a crumpled piece of paper inside.
It read -
“She was really begging me for mercy.
Where was soldier boy when she needed him huh?
Boo Hoo….I’m Lovin It!!
I’m Lovin it!!
Signed Yours Kenny”
I could feel a surge of anger envelop me. And yet I lay there helpless.
Had it not been for the surveillance cameras at the entrance of my home, I would have been in jail by now.
The police could clearly see Kenny carrying Stella’s body and breaking into my apartment.
They put out a nationwide notice for Kenny and he’s been on the run ever since.
Even after 2 months following Stella’s death, the police were not any closer to catching the culprit.
But I did apprise Henry’s dad of the situation. His life was also at risk after considering what happened to my girlfriend.
But our collective worry was for Henry. We didn’t want to see him suffer for no fault of his.
So I started training Henry to take his own safety seriously. I devised multiple safeguards to keep him protected while being outdoors. Always ensured that I was personally there to drop and pick him up from school.
My boss appreciated all that I was doing for his son. He knew I had taken Stella’s death hard.
He was a generous and compassionate man and I liked working for him.
Although he did notice I wasn’t my usual cheery self anymore.
One day when I was waiting at the office, he tossed the keys of his new car at me.
“This should perk you up. Take her for a spin” he said.
“And also go pick Henry up from school”, he finished as he left for a meeting.
I got down to the parking lot, and there she was … waiting. The new Bugatti Chiron.
I opened the door and took the driver’s seat. The fresh smell of the leather upholstery was already lifting my spirits.
‘Boss was right! I am perking up’, I thought to myself.
I drove around the block and stopped by McDonalds to pick up the usual order for me and Henry.
I felt a tinge of sadness when I could no longer see Stella at the counter.
Anyways, I picked the order and started my way towards school.
As I went past the restaurant, I saw an old jeep parked by the side of the road. I didn’t think much of it at that moment.
When I reached Henry’s school, I parked the car a few feet away from the entrance. A couple of minutes later, I noticed the same jeep I saw at McDonalds go past me and park 20 mts in front.
I would have never given it a second glance had I not spotted it at the restaurant.
The jeep had 3 passengers. They looked like bikers with tattoos, beard and long hair.
And then there was Kenny standing behind a tree to avoid detection. But I spotted him.
He was gesturing towards them to get ready. I could see his Harley parked just a few feet away.
They were planning some kind of ambush.
The school bell rang and the children were already out on the streets.
I could see Henry at a distance in the courtyard. He was slowly making his way towards the gate.
I immediately called him on the phone and told him to go to the Principals office and stay there. I made it clear under no circumstances was he to venture out until I gave him the all clear. He understood.
He was safe as long as he was within the school’s premises.
The next thing to do was move to another location. The children were already pouring onto the streets, and the last thing I wanted was to see a child getting hurt.
I started the car and went past the jeep before taking the next turn. I kept driving.
Few moments later, the jeep caught up with me and the driver violently swerved towards the left causing me to go off course. My car came to halt.
The guys quickly alighted from the jeep and they were all armed to the teeth.
Kenny came in his motorcycle and stopped his bike a few feet ahead of me. He took out his shotgun and had it aimed straight at my chest.
The firing started before I even had the time to react.
I instinctively ducked for cover with my eyes closed.
But in my heart, I knew my time was up!!
As the seconds went by, even with all those bullets being sent my way - my body felt strangely light.
‘Am I in heaven already?’ I thought to myself.
I slowly opened my eyes and tilted my head upwards to take a peak.
And I realized I was sitting in an armoured bullet proof car.
The entire biker gang were mad with rage, doing everything possible to penetrate that thick armour plate.
Kenny was barking orders at his gang to continue the onslaught. He then pointed his finger at me and yelled, “I am coming for you.”
I looked down at the seat next to mine and saw the takeout I had ordered.
Just to piss him off even further, I took out my Big Mac and slowly took a big bite.
I sat there in gastronomic bliss savouring my burger, while being under a continuous hail of bullets.
The firing suddenly stopped. Kenny the psycho was livid as hell - to see me have a good time.
I looked him in the eye while I took a sip of my favourite milkshake.
And then, continued to chomp on my burger.
He looked a little crestfallen at how his plan was misfiring and then frantically gestured his troops to keep at it. The firing started again.
But it didn’t last long. They eventually all ran out of ammo and his buddies began to flee the scene, as we could hear sirens at a distance.
The attack had taken a toll on the car. But it managed to withstand all that damage. All that firing.
A life saver!
I looked at Kenny again. Only one thought was running through my head now.
‘My Turn’.
I switched on the ignition and rammed the car straight into Kenny. He hit the bonnet hard while the car continued to race forward.
He was clinging on to dear life with his outstretched hands desperately clutching at the sides of the car.
Next in the demolition line, was his prized Harley Davidson.
I hit it full steam and watched it smash to smithereens - with parts scattering all across the road.
Then, I hit the brakes and Kenny was sent flying 10 feet forward.
After impact, he slowly staggered to his feet - all bloody and bruised.
His face was swollen like an apple.
He was pleading towards me with folded hands to show him mercy.
‘This is for Stella. And She’s lovin it’, I said out loud.
I hit the accelerator again.

Vapiano P2: Italian Food Made in Germany
Readers, welcome back. In Part 1 of this series, we trace Mark Korzilius' entrepreneurial journey from his initial setbacks in life to the founding of Vapiano, a novel concept in the restaurant industry. We explore the intricacies of Vapiano's innovative approach, from its fresh ingredients and dynamic atmosphere to its data-driven operational model, shedding light on the elements that propelled its rapid success and transformed dining experiences. Before venturing into cities like Dusseldorf, Munich, and Frankfurt, Mark and his team perfect restaurant operations in Hamburg emphasizing their priority of quality growth over top-line growth at all costs. Despite rapid expansion in the early years, Vapiano maintains profitability, even catching the eye of industry giants like McDonald's. Yet, the further the expansion goes the more it brings operational challenges and increased costs, leading to significant investments and the accumulation of debt. In this post, we will continue on this thread but for better context and for those who haven’t done so already, I would encourage you to read Part 1 first. Vapiano P1: Italian Food Made in Germany (substack.com) Let's dig in.

More Growth

We are now five years into the Vapiano venture, and the customer profile is starting to shift away from the original plan. In the 2007 annual report is says: “The Vapiano concept was developed with the aim of giving professionals, working people a good opportunity to spend their lunch break. In the meantime, the customer base has expanded significantly to include families and tourists. The changes in the customer base have led to the occupancy of individual restaurants being spread throughout the day.” The management team is much focused on improving the experience and keeping things fresh, so that only five years after unveiling its first shop design, star designer Matteo Thun is still very much involved in the design process. Even as the broader Germany economy in 2008 slows to just 1% growth, the group keeps growing aggressively, although the pace of expansion in self-own and operated sites decelerates. Three new self-owned restaurants are opened, including a third one in Berlin. But more importantly the company uses the year to look inwards, optimizing own restaurants and expanding further the pool of franchisees. Five more franchise licenses are added in Germany and for the first time the UK is entered.
Testimony to the attractiveness of the concept is the fact that same-store-sales (a metric to measure revenue of a particular restaurant this year in comparison to the same restaurant’s revenue last year) across the board grows by 11%. The concept has broad appeal, there is strong organic growth and management is on top of its game here. When operating as a multi-site quick service restaurant chain like Vapiano, logistics and supply chains becomes key. You want to get your central functions so well-oiled, that opening new sites becomes cooky cutter, particularly when you want to attract new franchisees. Indeed, the concept and brand appeal are important factors to attract top quality franchisees but backend, support functions are equally important for the homogeneity of the products, the consistency of the brand and the customer experience. The group starts further deepening its relations to companies in the areas of goods trading, logistics and services which ensures that high quality products are procured, and supply chains are robust. Another focus for the group is to build supply contracts directly with manufacturers rather than going through middlemen, which leads to significant cost savings. And because of the aggressive role out of new restaurants it makes sense to enter a long-term system partnership for kitchen planning, kitchen construction and after sales service thereby significantly lowering the costs for opening a new site. From 2008 onwards, Vapiano manages to source the central kitchen for all new restaurants from a single source.
Overall, the group books another year of stellar growth reaching over 42 million euros in turnover. This is quadrupling the 10 million euros achieved just three years ago. This type of growth is extremely rare for a restaurant business. Operating profits are now close to 4.3 million euros but as in the prior year, seven million euros are invested back into growth and maintenance of the business. Fortunately, because of the strong operational cash flow and favorable working capital movements the overall debt burden only increases modestly.

Unique Ways

We are now in the year 2009 and things are progressing well for Vapiano. The following is good reminder that each business is unique, each restaurant concept is unique and while there are always similarities that can be applied, you always ought to go back to first principle of the value proposition, concept or business model at hand and build your thinking and strategy from the ground up, irrespective of how the “others” in the industry might be doing things. While your first intuition may lead you to believe that you would have to hire lots of cooks as the restaurant chain expands, the Vapiano concept demands something different. To that end the company is starting to implement a unique hiring procedure. Instead of conducting individual one-by-one interviews for cooking roles where induvial go through their CVs, a question-and-answer session and perhaps some practical cooking demonstration, prospective candidates are instead selected through casting events. For that purpose, all applicants are gathered in one venue, on one day, and given different task. This approach allows the company to assess the group dynamics and identify individuals who would fit in well. CEO Mirko Silz emphasizes the importance of a cheerful and spirited individual, as most of the work in front cooking revolves around interacting with guests. Being able to cook is simply not an important skill for the role here. The food is designed in a modular approach with a set menu, the execution of which can be trained within three days. Mirko says: “Our people have to be in good spirits and cheery, as 90 % of the work is in the front cooking area with guests. Someone who is shy has no chance with us. Our people act on the big stage. I always say: everything disappears, character remains.” The firm needs entertainers, not cooks.

In terms of the general economy, we are now in the aftermath of the Great Financial Crises. Germany is now in a full-blown recession and is experiencing a 5.7% contraction in its economic activity. Times are tough but Vapiano is unfazed. To the contrary, the group’s growth explodes. Four own-operated sites, four Joint Ventures, additional franchisee sites and new licenses are added so that by the end of the year there is a grant total of 55 restaurants across 12 European countries. The network sees growth in various German cities, including additional sites in Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Berlin with a total of 37 self-operated sites in Germany alone.
It’s common in franchising, for one franchisee to have multiple sites, especially if they are good operators. Big if and if they can prove that they can implement a process and local management that ensures smooth operations in one site freeing up own attention capacity to take on another site. Not a small challenge but if that happens it’s a win-win situation for both as the group knows they are partnering with a known and proven operator, generating additional revenues and profits and it’s great for the franchisee as he can grow his business portfolio with partners he knows, trusts and issues that have been battletested.
The whole apparatus starts to work like a well-oiled machine. Revenue jumps by 56% to almost 69 million euros, operating profits reach 9.5 million euros. Impressive. Strong growth is there, yes, but it’s expensive. The expansion involves big sites, each requiring over one million euros in capital expenditure and a substantial amount of footfall to cover operating costs and recoup the initial capital outlay. 23 million euros are spent on capex but because operating cash f low is not sufficient to cover all costs the company needs to borrow an additional 12.5 million euros and raise c. 4 million in equity from investors. Through this equity round a new set of investors are joining the company, Hans-Joachim Sander (who also joins the advisory board) and Gisa Sander. The two are heirs to the very well-known German cosmetics label "Wella".
Things are changing now. Gregor Gerlach, one of the founding investors, is now leading the supervisory board. He is stepping forward and expresses the intention for Vapiano to accelerate its growth, particularly internationally, in countries where there’s presence already. This is a logical strategic move, capitalizing on local brand recognition that has been built, leveraging local suppliers and knowledge, ensuring a smoother international expansion process. Amidst all the group’s success, a small cautionary note emerges. In September of 2009, a recently opened restaurant is facing insolvency. Although in the beginning the site is experiencing footfall and spent per the plan, the location is starting to experience atypical sales development thereafter. This is certainly new. The group decides it isn’t feasible running the property independently, emphasizing the need for the personal commitment of entrepreneurs, particularly in small and medium-sized cities. This might be a nothing burger – pun intended – but time will tell.
Fun fact: all olive trees in the restaurants are real and sourced directly from Italy, handpicked for every location.

Changing Ways

In the following year, 2010, the entire gastronomy industry in Germany is contracting by 0.4%. Not Vapiano however. The group is still growing sites and revenue climbs from 69 million to 85 million euros with operating profits jumping above 10 million for the first time in the company’s history. Most of the cash generated from operations is used for the expansion with the remaining cash used to repay some of the 27-million-euro debt load it has outstanding by year end 2009.
Something feels different though. Yes, there is top line growth, but the rate of growth is slowing and interestingly the operating margin is falling as well, even if ever so slightly. Slippage creeping in? That year the group starts to explore projects that are tangent to the business but are arguably beyond its core competency. New concepts are being introduce such as the loyalty program that can be used by customers across all of Europe which is great for data collection purposes and building customer habit and stickiness. A female oriented magazine called “Vapiano Lady’s” is now being published. The “Viva Oliva” campaign is founded: an Olive Tree Festival which begins on Easter Sunday and runs for two weeks. During the time of “Viva Oliva” special attention is paid to products with olive content and in 2011, the Olive Tree Festival format is expanded to Vapiano restaurants abroad. All these new elements are designed to build customer connections and brand loyalty. Interestingly the same year, while all these new project and elements are starting up, perhaps a time to internally consolidate and clean up, the company announces it would abandon its current growth strategy and replace it with one that is much more aggressive. The new goal: doubling the number of sites from 2011 and 2014. Remember that we are now starting from a much larger base than the years before. The big focus is Europe, pushing the concept of “Fresh Casual Dining”, a category the company has invented in the German market. Based on the raw data it makes sense to hit the accelerator, after all same store sales (or Like-for-Like, LfL) grows 9% in Europe, clearly there is good demand for the product. What plays into management’s ambition and believes at the time, is the change ways of eating habits across Europe. The trend is moving away from heavy and fatty foods towards fresh and healthy meals and management is keen to lean into this, capitalising on customers embracing their newly found love for fresh and healthy foods.
While all of this is unfolding, a telltale sign emerges on the horizon. In 2011 the original co-founders and shareholders Kent Hahne, Klaus Rader, Friedemann Findeis are selling their Vapiano ownership stakes. Kent Hahne was responsible for the company’s international expansion from 2004 to 2011, and he keeps several restaurants as a franchisee but in 2015 he would sell these restaurants too. Insiders and founders selling in the middle of an expansionary path can have many different reasons, so there is no point to speculate. What I will say however is that there is only one reason why founders and insiders keep their stake. All three men, Hahne, Rader and Findeis would later play a vital role in Vapiano’s fierce competitor, L’Osteria.
The same year a new investor with a 40% stake emerges: Mayfair. Mayfair is the family office of Günter Herz and his sister Daniela Herz-Schnoeckl, heirs to the German multi-billion-euro empire Tchibo. Mayfair’s investment is not a simple silent equity stake in the business but is meant to support the company’s ambitious international and general expansion plans. Mirko Silz, CEO since 2006, leaves the company. He was the one who managed the rapid development phase as a central figure, the multi-city expansion and densification, the internationalization, the brand management and the implementation of systems, all success to date were done under his leadership. The second phase of Vapiano’s growth story, from 2006 until now, 2011, is now ending and a new era, one more heavily influenced by large capital and Mayfair is beginning. There is no official record on this, but Mirko apparently was uncomfortable with the speed of expansion that the new owners were aiming for with an eventual IPO in a couple of years. Whatever the reason for his departure, Gregor Gerlach has now become CEO and is pushing global expansion even harder. Amusingly, Mirko would later join his old companions Hahne, Rader and Findeis, becoming an important character in Vapiano’s competitor, L’Osteria. The remaining 60% stake of Vapiano is now held by the Sander couple and Gregor Gerlach.
In terms of revenue, it’s another stellar year. For the very first time in the company’s short history, it hits the 100 million euros turnover mark, new owned and franchised restaurants are being opened while debt grows to almost 30 million euros. 33 own restaurants are now operational across Europe and there are over 100 Vapiano restaurants globally with 11 in the USA, four in South Korea, three in Saudi Arabia, two in Australia, one in Lebanon, Mexico, Taiwan and Turkey. It’s a tremendous effort by the company and the team to achieve this level of global of presences so rapidly. It’s far easier to comment in these situations from the sidelines but one does start to wonder whether an organization that size, structure, and experience can truly handle this kind of rapid expansion, even with the highest level of management talent. After all this isn’t a software company that can easily scale centrally, it’s an on-the ground, people, process, and operations heavy restaurant business.
Anyway, the loyalty program is a big success, and several tens of thousands of customers are enrolling into it. But on the financial side, cracks are starting to emerge. While gross margins are holding up steadily and nicely at 74% (75% in prior years) operating margins are slipping further, from 12% to 9%. The operating profit of the business is now 9 million euros, this is less than in the previous year even though revenue has gone up by almost 20 million euros. Management says this is due to expenses related to the changes in management and unscheduled depreciation charges on licenses and usage rights. Unfortunately, I can’t strip these costs out, as they are not broken out or explained in the annual report. Same store sales (or Like-for-Like, LfL) in Europe are increasing by 20% which is a great sign to see (although there is no split between fully ramped and newer sites), demand for the company’s product certainly seems to be there. Just to give you a bit of a flavour on how ambitious Mayfair was with Vapiano. The Mayfair family office itself is in Hamburg and at the time, in 2011, there are three Vapianos in Hamburg. Mayfair’s goal was to increase that number from the current three to a total of six to ten restaurants in Hamburg alone. So, between 2012 and 2014 the expansion train continues. Revenue in 2012 grows to 118 million euros, albeit at a slower pace, and the company’s debt load increases to over 43 million. Net debt is now three times the size of the company’s operating profits, which is manageable and but it’s certainly not prudent.
Operationally, the Company is busy with things beyond cooking good food and creating a good atmosphere for guests. Loyalty programs are being rolled out, the company becomes very active on social media, starts investing in online blogs, and launches a new website where Vapiano merchandise and gift cards can be bought.

One year later growth slows further to 16%, revenue now reaching 136 million euros with gross margin holding up at roughly 75% but the operating profits slipping to its lowest point in years to only 7% of revenue or 9.6 million euros. The capital expenditures for tangibles like property, plant and equipment and intangibles like software and licenses, a.k.a. capex, is now so large, 20+ million euros, twice the size of the operating income of the business, that 14 million euros of new debt and 3 million euros in equity are raised. Total debt now stands at over 57 million euros with 4.5 million cash at hand. Net debt in relation to operating profits is now over five times. This is now a seriously leveraged business.
We are now in the year 2013 and 20 new sites are being opened. The total number of restaurants in the network grows to 139 with presence in 27 countries. Without a doubt this type of presence raises the awareness of the brand amongst consumers. Interestingly though, the company no longer speaks about same-store-sales growth in its annual report. That year, many events are hosted by the company, all aimed at bringing the customers closer to the Vapiano brand. To that end, headcount in HQ is starting to grow and the total number of employees grows by 512 to 2,928 in one year. An increase of 21% while revenue grows by 15%. As always with increasing size, the organization becomes less efficient and personal costs as percentage of revenue increase from 36% in the prior year to 38% now. A new and refreshed design concept is introduced by our old friend Matteo Thun and rolled out, starting in Berlin. By this time Vapiano is 11 years old and the glossy shine of the new, fresh, up-and coming Italian restaurant is starting to fade.
In all its previous years, the company was proud of the fact that it didn’t need any expansive and fancy marketing for its growth and was mostly driven by word of mouth, organically. This is now changing, and the group establishes its own marketing firm, Vapiano International Marketing GmbH. The new “Viva Oliva”, “Vapiano Ladies-Night” and “Vapiano-KIDs” events are all held in 2013 and a new marketing project is launched in 2014, a campaign with the name "HOME OF FRESHNESS". There is also a "HOME OF FRESHNESS" b2c film being developed, adaptable to different country preferences and the Vapiano “Photo Pool” is expanded for better image materials. A new Vapiano Design 2.0 concept is being introduced, a development of a standalone Vapiano restaurant in Fürth, Germany is introduced, and an improved bar concept. A lot of stuff is happening here.
In April 2014 CEO Gregor Gerlach tells the business paper WirtschaftsWoche that he wants to double the number of restaurants every three years. To that end the group is planning to build its own real estate, like McDonalds does at times. The Company calls these Freestander – a freely standing restaurant away from the city centre. The reason behind this is that when you go into smaller cities, it requires a different format where you can no longer look for empty space in central areas. This is a clear shift (or addition) from (or to) the previous model. With this strategy the group could target city peripheries and Autobahn stops, thereby capturing more customer traffic. This is starting to sound very different from the metropolitan client base that the group once was targeting. Some of that initial alure and magic is being lost by pursuing this strategy and the question arises if that is compromising the appeal of the other locations in the network by taking this step. But strong growth ambitions and lack of sufficient white space requires a change in strategy.
The new business projects don’t end there. The company introduces a drinks brand, Vapiano ICE TEA, with four flavour varieties, that are being rolled out in several European countries. A new app is introduced to replace the loyalty card and the company’s website is further developed. The loyalty program, VAPIANO PEOPLE is expanded into Sweden and the Netherlands gaining around 24,000 new members in 2014, a 15% increase from the previous year. The corporate design is further revised and so is the restaurant’s menu. Vapiano partners with star chef Cornelia Poletto to create new recipes but also encourages its own cooks and staff to suggest new recipes. It’s difficult to assess if this because dishes are getting stale or if it simply managements plan to extend the breadth of the menu with things like the specials. Other large Corporates, like McDonalds, run similar strategies where the classics are offered all year long while specials are introduced to the menu every so often to bring in some variety for those who are open to experiment and looking for new tastes and experiences without losing the popular dishes that have gained legitimacy and love by the customer over decades.
The Company is starting to introduce new events. For example, on October 22nd, Vapiano celebrates its birthday with a special event known as Vapiano Day. On that day, all employees in global support functions join the restaurant teams to actively participate in the daily operations. It’s aimed to enhance collaboration between the restaurant staff and administrative personnel, fostering improved teamwork. A concept that most firms should adopt in my view. Further, throughout the year, the company also runs various activities engaging both guests and Vapiano staff, an effort designed to strengthen the connections with regular guests. There is a lot going on here, it’s hard to keep track. There is a hard push and investments being made into the Vapiano brand and keeping the customer engaged. The average spent per customer in the group increases by 3% compared to the previous year and the number of total guests increases by 6% to over 14 million across all restaurants. It’s however not clear how much of that 6% is organic grow, i.e. more guests in the same restaurants, and how much comes from new restaurant openings. One can tell from the language in the annual report that the front end of the business is running faster than the back end. There is language around changing and harmonising IT structures without having to rely too heavily on restaurant staff on the ground. Simultaneously the company is trying to have a tighter central grip by building a team that standardizes functions, processes, and guidelines. All these initiatives, products and events are happening while sales outside of Europe are actually shrinking by 1.3% to which CEO Gregor Gerlach, attributes operational hick-ups and having partnered with the wrong local people. Are you spreading yourself too thinly? One word pops up for the first time in the 2014 annual report that I haven’t heard or read before in the context of Vapiano. That word is “lifestyle”. For the first time the company calls itself a lifestyle brand. I am not sure what direction this restaurant chain is taking here but it’s becoming increasingly clear that more elements are added around the core competency and concept of providing fresh, tasty food in a positive and welcoming atmosphere. I will say however, that as an outsider standing by the sidelines, it’s always much, much easy to make suggestions and comments than being in the arena yourself.
Anyways, during the year, as it has been the case in all previous years, new sites are being opened. The f final count by the end the year: 152 restaurants in 29 countries. Revenue grows to 152 million euros, but the rate of growth slows yet again to 12% from 16% in the previous year. The base effect is kicking in. Simultaneously personnel expenses grow 13%, further deteriorating margins. Gross margins are stable at 77%, an exceptionally good margin by the way, but operating margins further slips to 6%. The group’s operating profits with 9.5 million euros is now below the previous year, even though turnover grew by almost 15 million. You don’t need to be business genius to understand that there are too many corporate shenanigans happening here, with magazines, periphery products and events that blow up overheads and distracts from the core business that could be incredibly profitable. From 2011 to 2014 the company’s administrative costs increase by 120% to more than 20 million euros. The cost of employee training increases by 50%. There is a level of professionalism and back office investment necessary for the international expansion and that doesn’t come cheap. All the while, operationally, the US-business is struggling. Two US-locations are shutting down and a new management team is trying the turn things around. Vapiano’s proposition and core strength is freshness, atmosphere, and design, not something the average American quick service restaurant eater cares much for. The group’s operating cash flow is 19 million euros that year covering all capital expenditures for site openings, maintenance of the existing portfolio and the remodeling with the refreshed design. No debt or equity is raised, instead 2.1 million euros of debt is repaid.
Capitalism is working here at all times and in a capitalistic system, economic success attracts competition. Vapiano is increasingly fighting a wave of new chains popping up, all chasing the same mouths. Brands like Dean & David (salads), Hans im Glück (burgers), L’Osteria (pizza and pasta), BackWerk (bakery) and many others are all trying to grab a piece of the, albeit growing, pie – yes, pun intended. Even ex-Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking wants a piece of the action and starts his own pizza & pasta chain called Tialini and when launched in 2013 the concept was aiming for 20 sites in the medium term. There are five in place today. Finding a concept with broad market fit and then executing and scaling it in a competitive market is not easy. Vapiano had first mover advantages, executed growth well initially and through its achieved scale had a capital as an advantage.
But things are about to get spicy here at Vapiano, so stay tuned.

2024.05.02 15:18 mikeramp72 why are we acting like we have to pick a side between ___ and ___?

Q and Liz. Who says we’re forced as a viewer to pick a side? This is EXCELLENT for both of their stories, Q’s descent into an even bigger villain continues and Liz’s burger arc begins, and her story of wanting to be seen is starting to have some payoff. Q and Liz were both super entertaining last night and the moment between them is just such a good Survivor moment. I hate that people feel compelled to feel holier than thou and hate on either of them for this, it just made for excellent TV all around!

Does anyone know any good telegram channel for daily prelims quiz without much ads???????
As prelims is around the corner, i find it difficult to attempt full mocks as frequently because of my academics. In this situation i think telegram quizzes would be a better option to attempt questions flexibly.
Please do let me know

2024.05.02 14:36 mattrfs Survivor 46 Episode 10 Contender Rankings

Survivor 46 Episode 10 Contender Rankings
Another absolutely incredible post-merge episode of this season, and the first in a long time to include a moment that will forever go down as iconic in Survivor history. But how does Liz's Applebees breakdown factor into my contender rankings this week? And does Q really have a zero percent chance of winning this game?
Who is my top contender? ...
  1. Kenzie. (-) If this season has a traditional winner's edit, I'm now at around 95% all in on Kenzie. This episode was as squeaky clean as you can get for a person who has been left out of the vote. We heard her opinions on why she still doesn't want to work with Q, and undermined him with her confessionals on why she can't be bought with a reward. On the reward, she was shielded from the negativity of the mass waste of Liz's favourite burger, as she was given the confessional time to explain her remorse for leaving the food and how she felt bad for Liz. She was also given complex confessionals explaining her strategy on backing off of Tiffany, noting that it was too early to make the move. Given Maria's edit, I think the move will bounce back on her next week, justifying Kenzie not wanting to be a part of the vote, and potentially getting her revenge for being left out. Now that Tiffany is gone, I can really see Kenzie's story line taking shape about being the one to take down the dragon in the back half of the game. Who is that dragon you ask? Nobody has the dragon edit you say? Well, I present to you - Charlie AND Maria. It's mirrored even in the opening titles, this is a player with two heads, and they have been controlling every vote since the merge undetected from the middle of the pack. I believe that Kenzie will gather up her new allies Ben and Venus and start making some moves against them, finding herself in a win-win-win-win final grouping of Venus, Ben, Q , and Liz. I'm only 95% certain, because I think there is still a chance that she is our fallen angel, and in that case we would either be getting a win from my number 2 contender, or a WTF winner. I'll also note that I'm no longer concerned about her over-exposure - her edit since the merge has been solid but not overbearing, and her pre-merge can be explained by her literally being at the centre of all the pre-merge drama.
Who is my only other (traditional) contender? ...
  • Charlie. (-) If Kenzie doesn't win and its a traditional edit, then Charlie has to be the winner as the only other player with consistent positive personal and strategic content, as well as a continuing focus in the edit. But he still doesn't feel very winner-y to me, and I think that's because he is actually part 2 of the dragon. Now that Hunter has gone, he has become a physical force, and I expect to see him deep into the game because of this. He and Maria have been controlling everything, but it struck me this episode that in order for Maria's edit to spike, Charlie has to get cool down, and I think the reason for this is that they are two halves of the same edit. A lot of their content is also literally Maria saying 'Charlie and I' or Charlie saying 'Maria and I'. I think Charlie is just getting the bulk of the content because he's a better narrator and he's going to outlast Maria.
But what if it isn't a traditional winner's edit? Who are my WTF contenders? ...
  • Q. (+4) Q's edit has been very good if you remove all negativity. And even after all the negativity, the main narrative for Q is that he'll never quit, and he's still in this game. Now, arguably, he has tried to quit multiple times, and he has been massively undermined. But I think if neither Kenzie or Charlie were going to win, I could see Q claiming victory over a combination of Venus, Liz. and Ben. Yes, he's all over the place, but as his subtitled pre-merge quote stated ... whackadoodles win.
  • Liz. (-) This was a great episode for Liz if you disregard any potential negativity from her reaction at the reward challenge. And honestly, I kind of do disregard it, because it was surrounded by strong personal content for Liz that justified her reaction, and we even got content after where she was shown to be self aware that she shouldn't have reacted like she did. If we are getting a WTF winner, her story line has really started to get going, and it wouldn't be TOO surprising if she were to pull it off over two of the others in the goat pool at the end of the game. If we are getting a traditional winner's edit, this feels like a losing finalist edit to me.
  • Ben. (-2) I'm starting to drop on Ben massively, and I'm not even sure he wins in a WTF scenario anymore. He barely got any content of note again this episode, with his only confessional used to justify Liz's challenge reaction. He could still win against the goat pool based on social game alone, but I realistically think he's either losing to Kenzie or Charlie, or he's maybe the fire making loser. I don't see any reason why he gets voted out.
Who is not winning under any circumstance? ...
  • Maria. (-1) She's been far too quiet since the premiere, her edit has been shared unequally with Charlie, and the last two episodes have done a perfect job of narratively setting up for her to be taken out next week - the next in a long line of blindsides of people pulling off moves too early.
  • Venus. (-1) I think Venus is the zero vote finalist under every circumstance. The groundwork has been laid for her to claim moves that aren't hers at final tribal, and she's fully pushed through the danger zone to the area where goats are now safe to walk to the end. Also, her second episode with zero confessionals last night, and all winners thus far have had a confessional in every episode.

2024.05.02 14:25 PositivDenken Vita Bandet 2024

Where: Northern Sweden, Grövelsjön to Treriksröset
When: 13/02/2024 - 23/4/2034 (ten weeks)
Distance: 1325km
Conditions: General winter conditions, +7ºC to -30ºC
Lighterpack: https://lighterpack.com/tzlwle
Overview:
Vita Bandet (the White Ribbon) is a non competitive challenge to take you from the southern most point of the Swedish mountains to the northern most (or vice versa) by your own power. In my case on ski. More details at https://www.vitagronabandet.se/en-GB/about/about-25427890
Vita Bandet becomes more and more popular, this year setting a new record with 36 people, who signed up to do it, 28, who actually started, out of which 24 actually made it.
I’m not really experience in winter tours, I’ve done a couple overnighters and a four day tour the year before. My initial plans were to do a 10 day tour this year and then maybe the following year I could try Vita Bandet. But then I got laid off and I decided to just give it a shot. Worst case I’d take a bus back home after 10 days or so.
It took me 71 days in total, 14 days of rest, 25 nights spent in tent, 45 in huts, cabins, shelters, hostels or hotels.
Track: https://www.utsidan.se/tracklogs/view.htm?ID=1766
Another trip report on Vita Bandet, that I found very helpful personally: https://www.reddit.com/Ultralight/comments/ns7znm/1434km_by_ski_through_sweden/

Trip Report:
Stretch 1: Grövelsjön - Storlien
Arrived by bus in the afternoon, decided to head out that very same day, which was probably a bad idea since it got quite late until I left for real and there wasn’t just a lot of daylight left. Only made it up the hill and camped at the first remotely feasible spot. Woke up to a deflated sleeping pad. I had tested all gear just two weeks before the trip at a very cold night and everything worked perfectly fine. That’s why I believed in some problem with the valve or whatever, something that I’d be able to fix easily at least. Aimed at staying at some of the cabins along the way. Those cabins aren’t meant for overnight stays, only in case of emergency, but I concluded a broken sleeping pad would qualify as such. Unfortunately I was not able to fix the situation, instead it got worse and I had to inflate my pad several times that night. Met some very kind local on a snow mobile and asked about sport shops or outfitters nearby that might have a replacement. He gave them a call to reconfirm but suggested I’d rather stick to my route and spend a night at a hut, where I’d have a proper bed anyway and then try at the next village. I contacted some trails angels, that would provide me with a place to stay there and they also made sure, there‘d be a replacement pad to buy for me.
Unfortunately I got met with a heavy snow storm that delayed me by two days. First I took a rest day during the storm and then, they day after, the snow conditions where so hard, it took me forever to just reach the next cabin. 8 hours for just 10km. Because of the cold temperatures, that fresh snow was just pure powder and the wind had it collect in pools behind each hill. It was more like quicksand. There were no tracks to follow, or at least, those old ones were mostly invisible and for large parts you could only guess where they were to get to harder, more bearing grounds. So I often fell into those pools of lose snow, where it took forever to get out of again. Not to mention the energy it cost me. My super narrow skis didn’t really help with that situation. Just before it got dark, I made it to that other cabin. There was some firewood provided, that was leaning against a tree outside. It still had to be cut. Turns out, it wasn’t dry and it took me forever to get it to burn. This was kinda crucial since the night would go down to -15ºC and all I had was a torso length CCF pad to protect me from below. Thankfully there was another piece of CCF pad lying around at that cabin.
Had a fabulous time at those trail angel’s house in Tänndalen. From there continued over Fältjägarstugan to Helags. This is a so called fjällstation, where you have amenities like electricity and running water. Except they were not open yet. So I had to stay at their emergency room. Another storm swept through and I decided to wait it out, since going in -10ºC and 25m/s is not what I came here for. After the third night, I continued further to Sylarna fjällstation. Conditions weren’t great but better and I clearly can’t wait and stay at Helags forever. From there I chose the route over Blåhammeren. This was kind of a mistake since the way down from Blåhammaren to Storlien is extremely steep and was just pure ice. I fell several times and managed to jar my tailbone. I started to understand that if I’d continue like this, I’d probably get injured severely at some point. Stayed at a friend’s house where I could do my resupply for the next stretch.
Stretch 2: Storlien - Gäddede
This is probably the most unpopular stretch of Vita or Gröna Bandet (if you do it during summer, it’s called Gröne Bandet, the green ribbon). That’s mostly because there’s not so much infrastructure in between. If anything, it’s mostly hotels or expensive cabins to rent. If on foot, you’ll probably end up walking a lot of roads. That’s why it’s way more attractive in winter, where you can follow snow mobile tracks and cross lakes. Spent most nights in my tent, took a day of rest at the hotel in Jänsmässholmen and enjoyed their sauna. There’s a trail angel in Olden, a settlement just a little before, that I skipped. Not a good idea because those kilometers to Jänsmässholmen were a lot more demanding, than I thought. There’s another trail angel in Valsjöbyn, half way between Jänsmässholmen and Gäddede, who allows you to stay at their place, a former hostel. Took advantage of that and did a minor resupply at their tiny supermarket. Between there and Gäddede it’s mostly unmarked terrain, more or less the only stretch where you really have to navigate on your own unless you’re aiming for exactly that. Had a blast choosing a rather unusual route a bit further south than what most people do. Unfortunately the following day, between somewhat south-west of Lobbersjö to Gäddede wouldn’t be that great. I follow someone else’s tracks just to find myself in a very steep and dense forest. Had to take off my skis, but snow was about hip deep at times. Took me an hour just to make a few hundred meters. At that occasion I crashed my sled into trees several times and that must be when I eventually broke it. It developed a crack at the lower front that was shaped in a way so it would scoop up snow and accumulate it inside. First that made it very hard to pull, second, later that day when crossing a large lake, the raw ice was rubbing against the bulges, that were building up from the accumulated snow and rubbed two more holes into the bottom of my “pulka”. Arrived at the hotel very late. It was a Friday night and I had to realize, that I broke my pulka. Contacted the vendor of my sled but of course they couldn’t do anything until Monday morning. They would send a replacement. But as remote as those villages are, it wouldn’t be there before Thursday. So that was almost a whole week of just waiting.
On the other hand, I had made it to Gäddede and that’s a bit like what Kennedy Meadows is to to the PCT. If you’ve made it here, you’ll probably make it all the way, they say.
Stretch 3: Gäddede - Hemavan
The first couple of days after this long break felt very tiresome, I had lost my rhythm and maybe also my strength. Due to warm weather the conditions down in the valleys were just terrible, mix of slush and water or, once frozen again, just ice or icy crust. Generally speaking, following snow mobile tracks through forest is terrible but unavoidable. So I chose I route through the mountains rather than over ice. Harder but more enjoyable. Just before Klimpfjäll I would meet Lapplandsleden, an established, well marked trail for summer as well as winter use, that would lead me all the way to Hemavan. There are some amazing unmanned huts on the way, that I took advantage of. Did a quick resupply in Klimpfjäll. Unfortunately I didn’t know there would have been a nice beer and burger place too. Bummer! A few kilometers after Gränssjö I noticed that weather was forecasted to turn really sour. Lots of fresh snow and storms. My buddy Johan, who had just passed through some days before, advised to not continue, so I turned around and took an alternative route over the large lakes. One thing that’s worth mentioning is, that there are many (marked) snow mobile tracks out there, that are not referenced on any map. That way I missed that there would have been a nice shortcut over to Hemavan and instead I did a rather long detour over yet another large lake. Rented a cabin to dry up after that snow storm, just to realize that the route I had chosen, wasn’t really feasible either and I had to do yet another detour to the detour, that would led me back into and over the mountains. But despite this taking some efforts, it was just righteous beautiful again and I ended up getting some really good days of skiing before reaching Hemavan eventually.
Stretch 4: Hemavan - Abisko
Took two days of rest here to do laundry and resupply and - of course - go to the sauna. Met with some German girl who was also doing Vita Bandet and left for famous Kungsleden while the next storm was brewing already. The way up from Hemavan back into the mountains is quite a thing, so all sweaty I found myself back above tree line, when the storm just got stronger and stronger. And after I got almost swept off my feet, freezing and unable to see where I am, I decided to - once again - turn around. There was no place to stay up in the mountains, there’s just ski slopes up there. No cabins, no way to pitch a tent in the steep terrain. So the only solution was to go down to the village again, all the way. That was a tremendous setback. I met with Melanie again and stayed at her place just to try again next morning. This time I made it to the next hut. But the storm was brewing again. There were serious storms forecasted the next day, with wind speeds above 30m/s. I decided to continue to another hut at lower altitude, that wouldn’t be that affected by the storm. The warm weather together with the strong winds turned my hard shell into an icy crust. Thankfully I was wearing my warm fleece underneath this time, so it was more like fun than something seriously bad. Took half a day off the next day, since there was a hut with a great sauna. Made it to Ammarnäs just as planned, ate burgers and had beer there, did a smaller resupply at their well sorted supermarket and continued. Just to end up in the next snowstorm after making my way all the way up out of the valley. That night in my tent was quite the low point of my whole journey. I was so sure that next morning I’d have to turn back to Ammarnäs again and eventually just get a bus back home. But then next morning weather was unexpectedly good, conditions quite enjoyable and I had a great day out skiing in the mountains. Stayed at another shelter and then continued to Adolfström. I was able to secure a small cabin there, that they usually don’t rent out during winter. But they had made some special arrangements with an older lady from Denmark, who then had to cancel due to other circumstances. Forecast predicted very cold weather with nights below -25ºC (ended up as -30º even), so I was happy to be indoors and so I took a day of rest waiting for warmer weather. Met up with Melanie and Pontus, another guy on Vita Bandet and we continued skiing together for a couple of days. Weather was fantastic and we had the best time.
Took a nearo at Kvikkjokk where we slept at the cabin just at the other side of the river and then headed for the all-you-can-eat breakfast next morning. Now rain was in the forecast, we decided to leave nonetheless and make it to the next hut and dry up there again. We were wet to the bones and the comfort of a wood fired stove was more than appreciated. Stayed at the next hut too because it’s known for its amazing sauna and beautiful views of Rappaälven and its delta, that’s coming out of Sarek. We continued towards Saltoluokta, another fjällstation, where we again chose to camp just before and then head for the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. Learned later, that the snowstorm that had started the evening before wreaked havoc just a couple of valleys further down the trail and some people had to be rescued and evacuated. We had no idea there was a storm coming even. Did a small resupply there and then we set out to take us along the shores of this regulated lake, that is the result of a dam. So lots of open waters everywhere and sure not everyone’s cup of tea. But there’s only walking the road 15km as the alternative. You’re not allowed to take the bus as most other people do, who are following Kungsleden. From there you have to continue following a set of lakes, that are partially regulated too. Due to the warm weather of the past days this turned out to be a full blown shitshow. Deep slush and puddles on top of the ice, snow so soft, you immediately sink in until your knees or beyond. Thankfully it got colder again and after things had frozen over again, it even started to snow and we were met with basically the best conditions I’d ever seen on this trip. Were it not for the strong sun, Pontus got snow blind and I had severe struggles too. It’s probably because so late into the season, the sun is quite high up already and then the trail leads you through those U shaped valleys, that are completely snow covered and act like a curved mirror. Stronger, darker sun glasses would have been a blessing. Also stronger sunscreen.
Stretch 5: Abisko - Treriksröset
A last day of rest at Abisko, laundry, resupply, eat, eat, eat and sauna and then onto the last section that starts with a 40km stretch over Torneträsk. Strong headwinds didn’t exactly make it more enjoyable but weather was great otherwise. After you climb back up above tree line you end up on some plateau, that just seems endless. Soft, snow covered hills all around and perfect skiing conditions let you glide through the landscape. Every few hours people on snow mobiles, wearing capes and ponchos, cutting through like in a scene from Star Wars. Just perfect, magic moments. After reaching Treriksröset, the cairn that marks the meeting point between Norway, Finland and Sweden, I stayed at a last cabin from where I crossed into Finland and over to Kilpisjärvi the next morning, not knowing there’s another all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet waiting just next to the bus stop.
Conclusion
It was a lot hard than I had thought it would be. And had I known before, how hard it would be, I would have never done it. Everything is just at least twice as hard in winter. I’ve not been swearing and cussing that much before in my whole life. Alone the amount of gear, with all its straps, cords, laces and hooks, the possibilities that something gets tangled, snagged, jammed, or stuck is just mind blowing. And yet, I’m so glad I did it.
Gear Notes:
Ski
Those skis I used were too narrow, wider skis would have made it easier where there was a lot of fresh snow and would have allowed me to go off-trail more.
Pulk/sled: Jemtlander PullPac 8M/L
I plan to write a separate, detailed review on this, since it’s a rather new and unconventional piece of gear. In short, it worked but needed replacement. Should have gone with the stronger version right away. Having just a rope worked and allows to put the backpack on your back when needed. I didn’t make use of that scenario that often though and mostly just for traveling. Only in rare occasions, when traversing steeper slopes, I put my backpack on my back. In general I ended up with a too heavy backpack as I could still ski comfortably, especially in more technical terrain, especially since I also had that daypack, that would then go in front. It was great to have such a light setup when going uphill or over flat grounds but not so much downhill. The steeper, the worse the experience was.
Tent: Hilleberg Soulo
It’s a small tent, but I’m used to small tents, it fits my style. Usually I just get into my sleeping bag and then do all the rest while lying down, ie cooking and such. The biggest drawback surely is that doesn’t really allow to cook while having the doors close, the vestibule is just too small for that. At least when it comes to priming the stove. Which can be a problem in strong winds. I managed anyway, but that’s more like survivor bias than anything else. Most people opt for tunnel tents with large vestibules where they can sit and cook in almost any condition and just for the peace of mind, that’s something that I can’t deny the appeal of. There are people, who go even lighter. You could leave away the inner tent for instance. But then you’d have to make sure to seal it really well to account for snow drift in a storm. Other people use pyramid style tents, but in general that’s people, who go very fast and stay indoors for most of their trip, ie. they only plan for a handful of nights in a tent. Overall I think taking the Soulo, while not perfect, was still a good compromise.
Sleep system
Don’t get me started on sleeping pads, even the replacement (a self-inflating, super robust, 1kg) started leaking at some point. If I had a full-blown pulk I’d definitely bring a full length CCF pad, some inflatable for comfort and a reindeer skin just because I can.
My sleeping bag clearly isn’t warm enough, even though I had the extra synthetic blanket. The last couple of nights were something like -20ºC and I got a bit cold in the morning hours.
Clothes
In general the clothes I brought worked really well. Barely used that fleece jacket, I carried with me, but when I needed it, I was glad, I had it. An even warmer down jacket and warmer gloves would also go on my list of “next time”.
Stove/kitchen: Primus Omnilite TI, Primus 1l with heat exchanger
Worked like a charm, but should have bought and brought the repair kit to the stove and the maintenance instructions. Half way between Abisko and Treriksröset, in the middle of nowhere, the fuel pump stopped working and I couldn’t repair it on my own. Thankfully Pontus wasn’t too far behind at that point and I managed to reach him over inReach.
There are people who use canister stoves, it didn’t work for my buddy Johan and in general, I don’t get the appeal of it. Alone the logistics behind it regarding resupply sounds like a nightmare.

2024.05.02 13:19 sndc1089 Help with a new relationship

I've just recently started a new relationship with someone and I wondered if I could ask some advice about something to anyone willing to help?
Basically, I'm a 34 year old female who has started seeing a 31 year old male who has told me he doesn't have many friends. He does however have a 54 year old female friend he speaks to daily and considers his best friend, but they have never met in person. They met on a news app where they both commented on an article, and they send each other presents in the post on birthdays and Christmas etc.
I enquired about whether they had been romantic and he said not at all, and that he sees her as a nice aunty type figure. I have admitted to him that I'm a jealous person and can be very territorial and he said he likes a bit of "healthy" jealousy as it shows I care.
However, whenever he came to my house he would hide his phone, or turn it off completely. If he was using the phone next to me, he would turn his screen away, and once I asked what the time was and tapped his phone to see the time and he snatched the phone away from me and said not to touch it. Another time, he was showing me the music he listens to on his phone and when I got to the bottom of the playlist he, again, snatched the phone away. This behaviour started to make me feel a bit insecure and suspicious.
So I asked him about why he was being this way, and he said he's just a very private person and can be secretive, even though when we first met he said he doesn't have a lock on his phone and I can go through it whenever I wanted. To that I replied I wouldn't want to, that's his private belonging and I don't want to be controlling and look through his phone.
After long talks and arguments about this female friend, he finally said she was the main reason for hiding his phone, because he feared me seeing her name come up and having a hissy fit etc. But he also said he hasn't spoken to her in several weeks which didn't make sense to me. If they are best friends and text daily, how comes he hasn't messaged her? I encouraged him to get in touch because she may be wondering where he is and if he's ok etc. I then went as far as to say why don't you just send a quick message saying you're in a new relationship and that's why you've been MIA but you're sorry for not getting in touch and hope she's well? I knew this was a bit controlling to ask that of him, and I said I'm worried this is dangerous me telling him what to say, but he happily agreed and said it was a good idea.
So he sends a message to his friend, and writes almost word for word what I suggested, that he's met a girl blah blah blah and then he added his own bits, saying she's beautiful, she's funny and intelligent and I love her. It was a really sweet message, and the friend replied back saying that was amazing news and she's really happy for him. I can't lie this put my mind at ease that there was definitely nothing romantic happening between them. She also said she'd been meaning to message but life was busy and she just forgot, which made me think maybe he saw her as more of a friend than she did him. Anyway, his demeanour changed and he stopped turning his phone off or hiding the screen, and became more comfortable around me and would tell me to play games on his phone and he was no longer worried.
Now this is where the problem for me begins: The last time he was at my house, we were doing a quiz with his dad online and were talking to his dad via WhatsApp. That's where I noticed he only had 5 people on his WhatsApp and had deleted all other conversations. I also noticed the preview of the conversation to his female friend said "really jealous and easily offended".
I said is that about me? Can I see it? I know this is controlling behaviour, but at that point the rage took over me because I knew it was about me. He opened it and let me read it.
The message read "Hey mate, I was actually at her house when I sent that last message, but now I'm home. You're right about scorpios they are so jealous". Her response was "yes they are, and I'm sure you're getting a lot of that right now?" and he replied "Yeah, she's really jealous and easily offended. Like I can't say anything to her without her getting upset. Anyway will you be in next week cos I'm sending you a birthday present".
At this point I felt like my heart was in my throat. I felt betrayed, like he said all that nice stuff in front of me for show and then waited till the coast was clear to back chat me. I feel like a new partner would want to be up-talking me to his friends, not down-talking me and making me look like bad. But ultimately this is a major insecurity of mine, and I just wish he hadn't discussed it with this friend so early on in our relationship. I felt exposed and vulnerable.
So my question is, do I even have the right to be upset? I'm not perfect and I definitely shouldn't have been so controlling but I do feel something is completely off here. Why did he wait till he was away from me to say those things? Am I over reacting and being too sensitive? Does this show more on his character and the type of things he could be capable of in the future or do I need to let it go and move on? I can be really sensitive and yes I guess I can be easily offended and I'm trying to work on that but I don't know, I feel like I'm not sure if I have the right to find it a bit hurtful. I do want to do better and not get so upset about everything.
Sorry it's such a long post. Any advice or feedback would be appreciated. Also I'm new to this so I am not sure if I have broken the rules, and I'm very sorry if I have.

2024.05.02 12:28 Electronic_Mix8094 Hypnosis for golf?

I've recently been reading up on and watching a lot of growth/self development content and as part of this been really interested in the concept of self-hypnosis for changing habits, or optimising certain areas of my life
I wanted to apply this to golf, especially after hearing about Tiger Wood's success with visualization and focus. As someone who has started playing golf recently I'm looking for any guidance or suggestions in the field of hypnosis and golf specifically.
I've read up on TW's experience with hypnosis, and his psychologist caddie Dr Jay Brunza - which has been really insightful
I've listened to a couple of podcasts/YT videos (Mark Immelmen & Nicholas Wright) - these were informative and helpful, though I do prefer scripts shorter than 20 mins, purely based on time, so Nicholas' videos are a bit too long.
I'm also trying the app Reveri - nice interactive quiz on how hypnotizable you are and info on how hypnosis can help. Tried their golf programme, provides a few different things to work on each session. I use this for my sleep in general so quite good.
There are also a bunch of hypnotherapists out there too with landing pages on how hypnosis can help - but realistically I'm not going to go and see a hypnotist. Not there yet...
Would love to hear if anyone has had positive experience with hypnosis for golf - I use it for my sleep at the moment (after quite a while of trying) and seen good impact there, but keen to implement it into other elements of my life and hope to do this with golf - and running too.
Any insights on resources and experiences would be great!
TIA

2024.05.02 11:07 Oxissistic Obligatory I passed (Provisionally) and here's what I used

Got the provisional pass today, went to an exam centre and honestly it was not a positive experience, should have just done the remote proctor. still.
Myself, been in IT for 20 years, 15 as a manager and the last 5 focused on Cyber. I have a heap of Incident and Risk experience from an Operations view and as a Manager. I took 4 weeks to study with about 2-3 hours each evening +Audio book in transit.
ISACA Things: ISACA QAE Database, did the full study plan and still had 380 unanswered questions, so I did 30 of them and then 2 chunks of 150 as "mini" practice exams, was averaging 70-80% each time, nothing amazing. by the end I had a percentile score of 68%
I did the proper practice tests twice each, I would do Exam A one week, then B the next to try keep my memory of the question from clouding my knowledge of what the question was asking.
I did buy the CISM book and read chapter 1 and it was HARD to read. you can tell that there are different authors and there are some contradictions in the content about "who is the best group to provide input on X" type things, I could just have been getting context mixed up but the textbook did not flow as a reader but was a good resource to refer to specific points. the QAE was infinitely more useful.
Non-ISACA:
Audible: u/GwenBettwy I know you're in here!
I got the Audio book on Audible "Prepare for the ISACA Certified Information Security Manager exam" by Gwen Bettwy, Mark Williams, and Mike Beevers and found the listening very digestible in 1 hour chunks per domain. I must have listened to each chapter at least 3 times, there are some parts with examples that did get a bit long and were not really about the exam but about context.
My only comment here was the tips section with Its all about Policy, more often than not it was all about Strategy THEN Policy.
YouTube: I also used Gwens exam tips YouTube videos.
More YouTube "Cybrary" has a 4 part course for FREE that is the webinar from I think 2022 presented by Kelly Handerhan. this had some great examples and worth a watch they can be up to 3 hours long each but go over them at least once. these courses are usually several thousand dollars so to be able to get the content on YouTube is amazing. If Kelly is in here I often think at random times "Security NEEDs to be baked in NOT sprinkled on!"
I did have a look at Prabn Nair "CISM 70 Q+A You cant miss for exam prep" This was good for about 10-15 examples to see how the breakdowns work, but the examples used were far too easy to answer to be a good guide, I would pause the video, read and give my answer in about 30 seconds and then listen to the explanation.
Apps: IT & Security Exam Prep App for CISM I really wanted to like this app but I found a lot of the questions seemed to be designed to reward memorising the book than to teach you the concepts and I didn't even feel like I was improving my knowledge like I did with the QAE so after 2 weeks I stopped using it beyond the daily question and the odd 10 question quick quiz. I did like that it referred to the specific sections of the textbook, YMMV.
And that's it, From me I'd say YouTube and the QAE is all you NEED but the Audiobook just for the ability to listen on the Train or in the car and have multiple listens really helped to solidify the content. I had to unlearn some things from my learned experience but I got a provisional pass so this was my experience.
Again, Gwen, Kelly, and Prabn if you are in here thank you for your content and all the time you put into helping this community become effective and certified Information Security Managers.

2024.05.02 10:55 Novel_Baseball_6478 Every Remaining Contestant's Biggest Move on Their Resume...So Far!

This has been a very enjoyable season of Survivor but also a chaotic and messy one though. With this messiness, player's big moves may have been lost in the shuffle. So to help with some confusion, I decide to make a list of the biggest move made by the remaining players in my own opinion.
Ben - Ben has been a low key player during this season but his biggest move has been correctly identifying when thing do and do not rock.
Charlie - Charlie is in a power duo with Maria but his biggest move does not even include her. His biggest move is the ability to channel the spirt of Taylor Swift to help guide him to win crucial immunity challenges.
Kenzie - She is just the Mermaid Dragon so no further elaboration.
Liz - Her biggest move had to be her passionate plea to Q for Applebee's. Although it was not a successful plea, it is very Sandra from HvV esque in that Sandra did not get what she truly wanted that season (voting out Russel). Sandra still won the million dollars and so could Liz even without the Applebee's Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss Burger that she truly wanted.
Maria - Maria is the second half of the power duo with Charlie. Her biggest move though was using her second vote when she had the majority. I would say that is some 4D level chess right their.
Q - Unfortunately, I cannot tell you guys Q's biggest move because he told me personally that would be a BIG MISTAKE and he will Cancel Christmas for me. I apologize.
Venus - Venus is a outcast on this season with no real allies but she has a really good reason to be in that position. In a deleted scene Venus explains that she does not help around camp so she can conserve her energy. The conservation of energy is her biggest move, she will use all that built up energy at Final Tribal Council to convince the Jury that she was the mastermind every single blindside this season and no one could disagree making Venus the unanimous winner of Survivor 46!
I hope this breakdown of everyone's biggest moves helps you understand the season just a little bit better.
