There is a growing problem in the alterhuman community with many people, but especially younger kids, buying tails from cruel fur farms.
 Amazon, SHEIN, AliExpress, and Temu are the three biggest sites that people purchase tails from. Every tail sold on these websites is sourced from cruel fur farms where foxes and other animals are subjected to horrific ab*se. The tails sold on these websites may say “fake” or “faux fur”. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!! Policies in China (where all of these shops are based) allow sellers to label real and unethical tails as faux fur or ethically sourced. The only tails safe to buy from these sites are POLYESTER STUFFED FURSUIT TAILS that look nothing like the tails you see many therians wearing. 
The safest way to buy a tail that looks like the kind of tails you see many therians wearing is Etsy. There are three main options that I recommend.
  1. Yarn tails, you can buy them from Etsy or watch a tutorial to make your own with yarn. They’re fluffy and they’ve got a nice weight that makes them feel real.
  2. Faux fur or Mohair tails are also available on Etsy, you can commission them from sellers like TalesofMischief. Mohair tails look almost exactly like real ones, and Mohair is made from the hair of the Angora goat. It is not cruel because it’s just sheared from the goats.
  3. Real tails, you can find many ethical ones on Etsy, but DO YOUR RESEARCH!! To find sellers and check if they’re ethical or not, you can search “fox tail taxidermy” on Etsy and click on the description of the individual sellers. Look for “wild foxes” and “foraged taxidermy”. Avoid any shops that say “farm raised”. The seller should find the foxes already d3@d, without k*lling them for the tail.

Hello again everybody!
Before we get started on today's post the current voting for Starmie has seen votes for B tier with a very sizeable lead that doesn't seem likely to change in the rest of the voting time.
So with that being said it looks like Starmie will be joining Weavile and the Kanto Kitties in the B tier! Like with all previous votes I'll continue to check the numbers and if anything changes I'll update it on tomorrow's post.

With that being said let's get to today's vote!
Today is day 16 of tier voting and we're starting to make some progress working through the list of everyone's requests! Today we will focus on Rhyperior, a Pokemon that was part of the Gen 4 wave of adding new evolutions to some (mostly) underwhelming Pokemon from the first 3 generations that still remained fan favorites. As the evolution of a gen 1 Pokemon Rhyperior had a 50/50 shot of either having absolutely nothing in its movepool or a ridiculously wide ranging movepool that honestly doesn't really make sense or fit its design or typing. Luckily for Rhyperior it was in the latter group with an extremely wide and somewhat confusing movepool (4x weak to water but learns Surf will never not be funny especially in the games where HMs were still a thing and this guy would literally ferry you across the water). It also has really good attack and bulk on the physical side at the tradeoff of rough special bulk and an abysmal speed tier. However while it's typing isn't necessarily the greatest it does have some good abilities (including its Passive in this game) that can help it to either mitigate some of its weaknesses, or hit like an absolute truck. It's egg moves in this game definitely lean towards wanting to use its hidden ability and unfortunately it has a lot of strong competition for either of its types but there's no denying it smacks things super hard, even if that does come with the cost of hitting itself with a lot of recoil damage as well. Solid Rock + Filter turns its two 4x weaknesses into regular 2x weaknesses and allows it to be neutral to the four types it is normally 2x weak to. However Reckless combined with its movepool and egg moves will certainly hit a lot harder.
(Please note that Pokemon with Mega/Dynamax evolutions will be tiered as one Pokemon and not tiered separately for their Mega/Dynamax form. Different variants such as Alolan Persian vs. Kanto Persian will be tiered separately however.)

And here is a quick reminder of what each tier generally means:
S tier: Top tier, can make or break your entire run, essentially the cream of the crop
A tier: really strong but not quite top tier, maybe slightly outclassed or has a slight weakness holding it back
B tier: solid choices that can make it to your endgame team, might be reliant on team composition to truly function well or might just be outclassed as well
C tier: usually early-mid game Mons, ones you don't really want to take to end game if you can avoid it, usually pretty decently glaring weakness but something redeeming enough to keep from F tier
F tier: no reason to use in end game unless you're doing it for a meme/joke
Abstain/No Opinion: this will be a voting option mostly just in case someone accidentally votes and then can't remove their vote (I've noticed that happens on Reddit sometimes) or for Pokemon people haven't unlocked/used to their full potential yet. If Abstaining votes outvote each individual tier then the Pokemon will be tabled for the time being and another vote will open up for it later (can mostly see this happening with Legendaries).

What would you pay for this horse?
Just trying to get a sanity check here. The therapeutic equestrian center where I work is retiring my favorite horse, and I want to adopt her. Here are her stats:
-Papered reining bred QH. Super sweetheart. Very smart. Came from out west as a ranch horse so has a ton of fun skills. Really nice horse. She was purchased in 2021 at age 14 for $7000. She’s 17 now. Feed wise she’s an easy keeper, doesn’t need much grain and does well on regular hay.
-she has progressive cataracts in both eyes that have made her incredibly head shy. It’s hard to get a bridle on her and she won’t wear a fly mask. They’re getting worse as she ages. One cataract is worse than the other.
-she has significant laminitis history. Was out of work for about a year in 2022 due to lameness. It’s managed now with backwards shoes and silicone pads and a biotin supplement, so she’s currently serviceably sound. Her feet also crumble very easily and she trips a lot due to the laminitis. Very high maintenance feet to maintain soundness.
-she has a Lyme history which has increased her head shyness
Given all these challenges, what would you consider to be a fair price for this horse? I will say again, she is a NICE horse. Papered and smart as a whip. Sweetheart too, very eager to please.
They want $3200 for her. I feel that with her significant challenges with her eyes and her feet that is an insane price for her. But I’m biased and I love her very much, so I want a second opinion. What would you say is a fair price for her?

PSA: Robin Hits Multiple Important MoC Breakpoints at 157 Speed
I’ve been seeing a lot of guesswork from content creators and on Reddit lately and not a whole lot of math so I did an investigation on whether or not an important speed breakpoint for Robin actually exists or not.
In short, I made a very large table for certain breakpoints for Robin and almost the entirety of the table had little to no realistic game changing implications; but I found one incredibly potent number that I think will elevate Robin to her highest level – 157 speed.
TLDR:
Robin hits 2 massive back to back breakpoints at 157+ speed on the second wave of MoC and a bonus breakpoint on the first wave with Vonwacq.

Objective:
optimize Robin’s speed to give her the best chance to 1 or 2 cycle the second wave of MoC by maximizing the amount of actions taken by 134+ speed dps
Requirements:
  • 157+ speed Robin (Vonwacq optional)
  • enemy CC does not interfere with or interrupt any of your allies’ turn order (or at least not Robin’s)
  • Robin’s ult will be maintained and prolonged going into the second wave of MoC (this is pretty much guaranteed if you are able to 0 or 1 cycle the first wave of MoC)
  • after Robin’s ult ends, she will have enough energy to ult again immediately after taking 2 actions (basic+skill or skill+skill) (proper FuA/dual dps teams, sig LC, Huo Huo, QPQ procs, Vonwacq/Penacony, getting hit, killing enemies will all help with this)

Commentary:
Most breakpoints as we’ve come to known in HSR are typically instantly gratified with essentially 0 payoff if you aren’t actually able to clear a cycle in time. If you take for example 134 speed, it allows you to take 2 actions within the first cycle but if you are unable to 0 cycle it, the next time the 134 speed breakpoint becomes relevant again is on the 4th cycle which allows you to take a total of 6 actions.
I couldn’t believe it when I first discovered it; but with a 157+ speed Robin, you are able to hit 2 breakpoints back to back on the second wave of MoC – 4 dps actions within 2 cycles and 6 dps actions within 3 cycles (plus a bonus breakpoint on the first wave allowing you to get an additional skill point if you have Vonwacq). At this breakpoint, your dps will take an action precisely right before cycle 2 or cycle 3 ends without wasting any amount of AV. If for example you missed the boat on a 1 cycle clear, this speed is still fully relevant going into the next cycle.

The Discovery:
I created a formula that tunes Robin in a way that positions her actions along the AV timeline to act as certain stopgaps that allows her to ult at specific intervals, which in of itself is speed tuned to align with the end of a MoC cycle. Without getting into the minutia of things, when properly done, speed should be tuned to the limits of a game mode’s AV limit, not to the other characters on your team.
A*(B-1)*10000/(C-A*10000/90-10000/D*(E-1))=X
  • A = expected number of Robin ults
  • B = number of Robin actions required after concerto ends in order to be able to ult again
  • C = targeted cycle AV limit
  • D = the speed of your supported dps
  • E = number of desired dps actions post-Robin ult before reaching targeted cycle AV limit
  • X = Robin speed required to achieve all of the above
*B, which is the rotational requirement for Robin should be treated as a constant.
*D, which is the speed of your supported dps should also be treated as a constant.
When inputting the values B=2 and D=134, the most interesting piece of information that caught my attention is that the exact same number is produced when A=1, C=250, E=2 and when A=2, C=350, E=1.
X = 156.52
What’s going on here is that if Robin can achieve a 2 turn ult at 157 speed then she will be able to ult every 175 AV. As it so happens, 175 is also 75 AV, or one full 134 speed dps turn, away from 250, the end of a MoC cycle. Furthermore, 175 is also half of 350, the end of the very next MoC cycle. Coincidentally, 157 speed will also give Robin 3 actions within the first cycle of MoC with Vonwacq.

Build 1: Sig LC w/ 3 ATK% main
  • 2 pc ATK% + 2 pc ATK%
  • 9 ATK% subs (3 subs on each non-ATK% main)
  • 12 speed subs = 134 speed (this isn’t a Robin breakpoint btw)
  • Robin post-ult attack = 6341
  • Robin ult damage = 13855
  • flat attack buff = 1340 ATK
Build 2: Sig LC w/ 2 ATK% main + speed boots
  • 2 pc ATK% + 2pc speed
  • 12 ATK% subs (3 subs on each non-ATK% main)
  • 9 speed subs = 158 speed (Robin breakpoint)
  • Robin post-ult attack = 5659
  • Robin ult damage = 12366
  • flat attack buff = 1213 ATK
Build 1 vs Build 2:
  • +12% more Robin ult damage
  • +127 flat attack buff
  • -24 speed
Like everything else in HSR, stacking too much of one stat leads to a saturation of said stat. From the 2 build comparisons above, it is evident to me that going all in on ATK% leads to very minor gains. Furthermore, after a year of developing metas in HSR, 160+ speed supports have become the norm. The breakpoints that Robin is trying to achieve here only requires 157 speed which is very reasonable.
Concluding Thoughts:
As I wrap things up, I would like to add that after also running the numbers for when Robin is supporting 160 speed dps (DoT, Sparkle comps), a comparable breakpoint does not exist. Also, any point of speed higher than my recommended amount for this strategy has no impact or use. I may revisit this topic once Apocalyptic Shadow comes out depending on how its AV parameters end up looking like and if I can find something worth sharing.
As an aside, many of the other speed recommendations currently being circulated have little to no significance or purpose. I just wanted to share my findings since almost every content creator I’ve seen believe that you can’t possibly optimize Robin’s speed in any way when that’s not true. I think that it should be common practice for people to start showing their work or at least elaborate on what is trying to be achieved instead of proclaiming that speed is a dead/useless stat to cop out of any due diligence or research.

2024.05.03 03:42 Isnottobeeaten Doing a mix of a crit vats build. Is my stat allocation any good?

planning on going with 2 different options for stat allocation
5/5/8/1/6/7/8 or 3/5/6/1/7/9/9
5 strength for the weapon str requirements (+ implant and the weapon handling perk)
5 perception + the implant for the sniper perk
8 endurance for the health and implants
1 charisma its everyone's dump stat
6 intelligence + implant for extra skill points and some perks like packrat etc
7 agility + implant for the ap and vats related perks
8 luck + implant for better crits
so endgame stats should look like this (if we're counting the special bonuses from the dlcs) 7/6/9/1/7/9/10 the extra point in agility is the free stat point from the lonesome road dlc.
the more min-maxy build is the second one
3 strength + implant + reinforced spine and weapon handling will let me play around with anti-mat rifle
5 perception + implant will allow me to get the sniper perk
6 endurance will snag me the strength, perception, endurance, intelligence, agility and luck implant. (not sure how useful subdermal and monocyte breeder will be)
1 charisma
7 intelligence + implant will get me those sweet skill points (if I'm getting concentrated fire I'm gonna need as much as I can get!)
9 agility + implant to get as much bang for my buck (all the ap)
9 luck + implant to get all the crits and fast track my way to getting banned from every casino
end game stats should look like this 6/6/6(+1?)/1/8(+1?)/10/10 not too sure where I'd put the extra special point from the lonesome road dlc since I plan to do that one last (or right before the dead money dlc) intelligence for extra skill points would be nice (since I'll most likely be starved of them the entire time) but by the time I finish the dlc I'll probably be around level 30 or 35 so I'm not sure how useful it would be. If I put it in endurance I'll be able to net myself another implant though so if my DT is low or I need the heals I could pick up the other two implants (because who actually buys the empathy synthesizer?)
Perks will probably be something like sniper, better criticals, grim reaper's sprint and Action Boy. Not too sure about light touch since I usually stick to heavier armour like the elite riot gear which can be paired with a 1st recon beret for +10% crit chance. (tho if anyone has recommendation for crit perks and armour your advice is welcomed)
Early game I'll probably go use the gobi sniper along with That Gun (I've heard it has a high crit chance) and when I get to big MT I'll grab Christine's rifle and start investing into stealth. 45. auto pistol + all the chems if I get into too much trouble. Might also pick hand loader for some of the higher damage bullets since I'll probably have jury rigger by lv 14. Late game I will definitely be using the anti mat rifle (with the explosive rounds for whenever I come across a horde of deathclaws in lonesome road) and christine's rifle for stealth + the gobi rifle if I grab any carry weight perks (or if I decide to play hardcore mode). In the very end if I have any levels remaining and free skills to allocate points into I'll probably pick either melee or unarmed since it looks like fun.
skill allocation will probably be gun, repair and a mix of lockpicking and medicine early game (with a focus on gun since my strength will be low and I'll need all the accuracy I can get) and later I'll branch into things like energy weapons (curse you concentrated fire!) speech and barter (with a focus on energy weapons and barter) then stealth up to 50 (not sure if I'll need it past 50 but I'll look into it)

2024.05.03 03:41 Ildona "Strike Hard!" Or... well, "Strike Okay, I Guess!"

So I've seen a lot of folks say that Strike Hard! is mandatory for Commanders, or at the very least that it's probably the best Level 1 Tactic. I ran some math to check how good it actually is.
TLDR: I mean, it's better than Vicious Swing (Power Attack). If you have the right party members. Sometimes. It depends.
I may have made a mistake in the math somewhere. Let me know if anything weird happened, but I would have had to make a massive error to completely negate these findings.

Methodology

First, I went through every class in the game and sorted out their To-Hit by level. You may have seen this chart I posted a couple of months ago, but here it is again with the current Playtest Classes included. Note that these values are based on trying to maximize the attacking stat. For an Oracle, as an example, they're starting with 16 STR and increasing it every chance they get.
You can see the To-Hit table here.
I proceeded to normalize all of these to "Fighter = 0." The goal was to say, "If a Fighter needs to roll X to hit a target, how much damage would each build do with a single Strike?" So, at level 1, most Martials are converted to a "-2" here. If a Fighter needs a 10 to hit, then a Fighter with a -2 penalty to hit is just a Barbarian. (E.g. Barbarian needs a 12 to hit) Hopefully that's clear enough.
I then generated an "expected percent return" table that accounts for Crits = 2X damage, non-Crits = 1X damage, "Nat20 improves one stage", and "Nat1 reduces one stage." A value of 0.5 means that you're expecting to get "Half a Strike's value" per swing, whereas a value of 1.25 would means you're expecting "A full strike and an additional quarter" per swing, due to crit damage. This table is written as a series of penalties; as you lose 1 To-Hit, you move down the table. So a Fighter is the top row, most other martials are under the "-2" row, and a few classes bounce around.

Then I went through and generated a table of expected Strike damage per level for a variety of classes and subclass options. Again, these are "maximized" values. A Weapon Inventor here is starting with 16 STR and 18 INT and increasing both at every chance they get. (Note: I didn't include Breakthroughs for the Weapon Inventor, so technically it can be a bit higher than my eventual numbers. This doesn't change the findings.)
I did not include Exemplar here because, honestly, I forgot to. I also didn't include several Martials like Guardian that would otherwise be identical to the Champion, didn't generate a new row for every other caster like the Oracle, etc.
I also did not include Deadly weapons such as Picks. This is just "maximum weapon die that the build might use."
You can see the Expected Damage Per Strike Per Level table here.
Then I multiplied Expected Damage Per Strike by the Expected Percent Return to get the expected damage at any given Required To-Hit and Level. Because this ends up being three-dimensional data, I'm going to refrain from posting the massive table from Google Docs, but you can run the numbers and verify against the graphs below if you wish.

A Brief Aside about Vicious Swing (Power Attack)

Power Attack sucks. You get some marginal return on damage for two actions, but that ends up being less than just striking twice. This has been known since shortly after PF2E came out. Power Attack, remastered as Vicious Swing, is not good.
Strike Hard! at it's core is Vicious Swing. You spend 2 actions to make one strike with bonus damage (and maybe some accuracy). We need to compare spending those two actions on our own Strike to see how good Strike Hard! actually is.

Caveats

This is going to ignore certain benefits of Strike Hard! such as "You don't personally have to be in melee range to use it." I believe this is fair, as I'm also ignoring the benefits of using abilities such as Combat Assessment or Unsteadying Strike from our two Strikes. I would argue that these are bigger losses than any utility benefit Strike Hard! may offer, but we're going to focus on the pure damage.
This also ignores using Strike Hard! as part of a full attack. It is my experience that you rarely would want to (or are in a position to) spend all 3 actions on melee range damage output. Strike Hard! is definitely better than Swings 2+3. Swings 1+2 are the question.
This assessment assumes the Commander is building to maximize their Strength. If you aren't doing so, Strike Hard! gains value for obvious reasons. However, you probably should still be building Strength. You do you.

Classes That Don't Strike Hard Enough

Some classes just don't outpace two Strikes from a Commander with a single Strike of their own. This includes your Monk and Champion, who do not get any bonus damage beyond Weapon Specialization, your Propulsive Weapon Users such as Rangers, 1-hand wielding Magi, Thaumaturge, and Swashbucklers.

A few of these, namely the Swashbuckler, Thaumaturge, and 1H Magi, keep up with two Strikes from the Commander using a 1H weapon, but none of these keep up with a Commander who wants to deal damage. Note that, of the 5 best options, two of them (Rogue and Inexorable Iron Magus) are barely above that set.

Classes That Can Strike Hard Enough

The classes that may actually be useful with Strike Hard are Barbarians, Fighters, Inventors, Inexorable Iron Magus, and Rogues. Realistically, the last two are questionable. These are all classes that get bonus damage per swing at large enough levels that you may outpace a Vicious Swing.
Here is a graph for how much damage these builds average per Strike against a target that requires a Fighter to roll a 4 To-Hit.
Here is the same for a 7 To-Hit.
And a 10 To-Hit.
And finally a 13 To-Hit. A Barbarian misses 75% of their swings at this point.
Note that the Solid Black line indicates a Commander using, say, a Warhammer and Shield and swinging twice. The Dashed Black line is a Commander using a Greatsword and swinging twice. The Dotted Black line is a Commander using a Greatsword using Vicious Strike, if it were available. This is not a real build, but it's here for context.
The first thing you may notice is that Barbarians are king here. They're bad at iterative attacks due to lower To-Hit than Fighters, but they have some chonk behind them. It's worth noting that Giant Barbarian is higher than Dragon by a little bit, but pretty much any given Barbarian is a good pick.
The second thing you may notice is how good d12 Inventors damage can be. If you just wanna bash once per turn, they're better solidly A-tier.
However, what you should really notice is that Dashed Black line. If you're worried about damage as a Commander, Striking Twice is better than anything but a Barbarian on very easy (Fighter To-Hit 4) targets, the best option on kinda easy (Fighter To-Hit 7) targets, better than anything besides a Barbarian or Fighter on neutral (Fighter To-Hit 10) targets, and the worst on pretty hard (Fighter To-Hit 13) targets. Above Fighter To-Hit 13, everyone kinda sucks, but Commander does flatline first.
Using Strike Hard! on a 2H Magus or Rogue is pretty much the same as using Vicious Swing with a Greatsword. As previously discussed, just swing twice instead.
All of this is to say, except against things that are nearing "Boss" difficulty (Martials miss 75% of swings), Strike Hard! should only be used on a raging Barbarian or a Fighter (maybe an Inventor), and only sometimes.

Wrapping Up

Strike Hard! is fine, but it's entirely party dependent. I don't think "is there a Fighter in the party?" is a huge barrier to entry, of course. But Strike Hard! is worse than just grabbing a Greataxe if you're looking to maximize your damage output against easy targets and, against hard targets, Strike Hard! may not be the ideal Tactic anyways.
Even if you want to use a one-hander and shield, only Barbarian, Fighter, and Inventor consistently outpace swinging twice. No other class does.
If you have a Fighter or Barbarian (or Inventor?) in the party, it's not a bad idea to run Strike Hard! with either Pincer Attack or Form Up!. If you do not have one of these in the party, leave Strike Hard! at home.

I would like to make it very known.
That as someone with a serious mental disorder, I absolutely do not condone these wildly out of the basket people, mostly young people, who claim to be suffering from the same disorder but it’s quite apparent it’s something else and more so another form of identity or some other disorder but not this one.
As said before by a post earlier.

This is living in blank, on an entire past that cannot be recalled except for bits and pieces due to trauma levels.
This was living to survive, so our alters are not WILDLY different, they are in place to survive through a lifetime of trauma in short periods of time. They are there as our covert forces protecting us.
This has been not understanding why or being able to fully comprehend moments and times of extreme emotional and mental changes, until now at least knowing why. We don’t put the blame on our alters though, it’s still on me.
Why? Because it’s not on everyone else to just let their feelings go because they have a host of people in their lives.
Maybe my trauma was just different in such a way it formed this way but I can’t possibly understand how a bitransqueerbaitinterracialcactus is really in the cards.

This is a game I used to play a lot but for the life of me I cannot remember the name.
It was an endless runner type thing viewed from top-down with pixellated graphics. It was very dungeon-themed, with there being torches that would light up as you walked past. You swiped the screen to navigate your character past hazards along the (usually) one tile thick path. Below the path was w black void. Some of the hazards that I can remember are saws in the floor, these little bone snake things that would chase you, bats, electricity or lasers that turned you to dust, and walls that would pop out and push you off the course. At the bottom of your screen, there was this dark cloud so that it you stopped moving for too long it would engulf you and you'd lose.
There were also multiple player characters. The ones I remember are a scarecrow, a vampire, and a blue knight with a big sword. You could upgrade the characters to get special skills, like the scarecrow could jump over a gap between tiles and the vampire could turn into a swarm of bats.
There were coins all over the course (gold, blue, red) and sometimes there were treasure chests too that you opened by bumping into them.
What is the name of this game? I really want to play it again!

I’m currently a History Major, I have a 3.8 GPA, I’m in my second year, but I am starting to think I would like to change my major to Biology due to intense interest in the subject and the careers that it is associated with (specifically the environmental/wild life aspects of it). I’m not sure if I should pursue Biology however due to one reason, I’m AWFUL at math, at least Algebra. I did pass with a decent grade in College Algebra however most of it was me stumbling through the class and not grasping any concepts, I did very well in Statistics though. I just don’t know if makes sense to fully make the jump, or if there is a way to both, or thirdly if there is any career that somehow would fuse both Bio and History. Working with wildlife- specifically marine wildlife, would be the dream, but I do also have interest in History and tend to excel in all of those classes, if I stuck with History I think I would like to look into Law or potentially a Government position. Any advice or help would very appreciated.

As a 2002 baby I always noticed that my class cohort was slightly smaller than the years preceding and after mine.
Lo and behold I checked the stats and the year 2002 saw a decline in births in New Zealand, from 57k births in 1999 to 54k births in 2002. For context, in 2008 64k births occurred in New Zealand, a nearly 20% increase compared the low of 2002.
The fertility rate also fell from 1.98 to 1.89 in one year between 2001 and 2002, but it rebounded back to 1.98 by 2004 and continued increasing to a peak of 2.19 in 2008.
2002 was the year with the lowest number of births in NZ in the last 37 years.

Three years ago, I posted my uOttawa admission law school admission and my (less than stellar) stats here. Now that I'm graduating, it feels like the past 3 years flew by despite so much happening.
My first semester was a disaster as I struggled amidst COVID and online class. I barely passed all my classes and would have actually been kicked out of law school after my first year had I failed to raise my GPA after my first semester.
Second year went much better and I made some valuable connections that would land my a research position with a prof for 3L.
My final year was really strange. It's the one I put the least effort into and yet it was my best year.
I know this is not helpful at all to any up and coming graduate and I don't have any advice to give that others haven't given. I wasn't the top of my class or anything, so it's doubtful that anything I say will really be helpful. However, now that I have my law degree, that's all that matters!

Ok, so this is pretty wild, but I'm prepping for my very first dnd campaign that I'd be dming, and while I was trying to think up something interesting for the campaign's premise, I thought up a really cool idea: all the players play martial classes and don't use spellcasting. Rather, they have to organically learn about a new, homebrewed magic system to replace the spell slots system.
I've been hammering away at this idea for quite a while, addressing every problem I could think of. It's gone through several different versions, and I thought that I'd write down the most recent iteration of the idea and send it to a couple different DnD homebrew forums to get feedback
This magic system works off of 'Mustering Energy'. The campaign takes place in a world completely devoid of magic, where arcane forces are alien to the people of this world. Suddenly, a black smog begins to overtake the world, with this cloud rotting everything it touches. The only safe places in the world are kingdoms atop high mountains, since this cloud is heavy and sinks to the ground; that is, until the undead begin to scale the mountains, plunging the world into deeper crisis. Amidst this apocalypse, four adventurers of mysterious backgrounds are inflicted with wounds from strange magical beasts. These wounds infect the players, endangering their lives, but also enchants their bodies, letting them pump magic through them like blood and invoke their powers to bend the elements around them. What is the mystery behind these arcane animals? Where did this dark smog come from? What can be achieved with these mystical abilities our adventurers have obtained, and more importantly, what is the cost? These kinds of questions are the things that I want to use to intruege my players, and the magic system should contribute to answering these questions and, more importantly, building up a good mystery along the way to the answer. Those are my goals with the magic system.

Elements

In my story, the magic system is divided into the controlling of 4 elements. But these elements aren't going to be the material elements of fire, water, air, etc. Rather, they're 4 fundamental elements of reality that ensure the laws of physics and such maintain consistent.
Each of these four elements will basically be a different 'school of magic'. Decaying Breath will have necromancy-inspired abilities, Bonding Bubbles will have some transmutation and abjuration, some healing too, the Red Lightning will have a whole ton of evocation, while Radiant Light also has transmutation and evocation. But they're not specifically bound by these categories, I'm just using the pre-existing DnD schools of magic to sum up what to expect from each element.
OK!! Now that the plot is finally done with, we can get to the actual mechanics of the homebrew!!!!

Mustering Energy

The main mechanic in this homebrewed magic system will be Mustering Energy Lvls. The players will be able to conjure forth energies from their bodies that would then swirl around their bodies. An Energy Lvl is a representation of the intensity of these energies, with the players getting to choose how many Energy Lvls they put into a spell in order to decide the spell's intensity. You can consider these an expendable resource, like Sorcery Points. However, before a player can use an Energy Lvl, they have to first Muster it. 'Mustering' an Energy Lvl takes a bonus action, and it basically preps the Energy Lvl for use, drawing the energy out of the character's body so that they can cast with it. Finally, once it's spent, a player can regain their Energy Lvls by spending taking the Rest action in combat. Basically, the player voluntarily gives up an action for their turn so that, at the start of their next turn, they'd regain their all their Energy Lvls for future use. This makes the Energy Lvls an infinite resource, as opposed to Spell Slots that need to recharge over long rests. However, it's balanced out by how little Energy Lvls the players will have, the fact that they need to Muster them before they even get to use them, and the fact that they recharge them by wasting an action for a turn.
At higher levels, players not only get more Energy Lvls to spend on their spells, but they also get the ability to Muster multiple Energy Lvls at once. Players can Muster a number of Energy Lvls equal to their Mustering Level, as shown by the below chart. (Also, players only get this spellcasting at Level 3).

Ok, so those are Energy Lvls and mustering them. That's how the resource for this magic system works. Onto the application.

Casting Spells

In this magic system, I wanted to capture the feeling of a soft magic system in DnD. The resource system of Energy Lvls is very defined, but as for what the Energy Lvls do, I wanted it to be much more free-form. So, I had the plan of not actually showing the statistics of any of the spells to the players. If a spell that they have is "shoot a bolt of lightning that does 3d8 damage", then all I'd tell them about the spell is "you can shoot a bolt of lightning forward", and players would be free to be as creative as they want with what that means and try anything out, y'know. I want it to feel a bit like ATLA, if that makes sense? I'm taking notes from Avatar's bending system and the Kineticist class from Pathfinder.
There's three kinds of spells that can be cast:
  1. Class Applications
    1. These are just the abilities granted to the players from the homebrewed subclass. The three classes my players will be playing as, Rogue, Fighter, and Barbarian, are each getting a homebrewed subclass that'll allow them to interact with this magic system, and they have their own unique abilities that they can spend Energy Lvls on. But I won't get into any of that.
  2. Martial Applications
    1. These are the pathfindeATLA inspired spells. The adventurers would use a series of martial moves to weave their mustered energy together into powerful spells, capable of raining down lightning arrows on enemies, changing the flow of water, etc. These are decently powerful spells that the players can cast whenever they want, with a couple limitations. Because it requires trained movements, players cannot cast these spells while restrained in any way. Not only that, but some spells not only cost Energy Lvls to cast, but also some movement, and others require you to succeed acrobatics, performance, or athletics checks in order to succeed on casting them. Throughout the campaign, players will learn new martial arts techniques that broaden the kind of spells they're able to cast, allowing the players to gain a feeling of progression as they train themselves to be capable of casting more spells. I'll start players off with really simple Martial Applications. The first spell they'll ever get to cast will just be them extending their hand and firing a single, simple bolt of energy forward. From there, the sky's the limit as to what their character can do with their magic martial arts.
  3. Crafted Applications
    1. In stark contrast with the martial-arts focused Martial Applications are the science-focused Crafted Applications. The different elements wielded by the player characters will each have vastly different effects on the environment depending on the materials that they interact with. Red lightning will burn paper, Radiant Frost will freeze water, etc. Players can take advantage of this by putting many different material components, like herbs, crystals, and precious metals together as ingredients to form a resource called Spell Pouches. The spells that are castable thanks to Crafted Applications are incredibly powerful and do not face the risk of failing to cast via a failed athletics check or anything like that. In exchange for this, it's as if every spell has a resource to cast unique to itself. These Spell Pouches that would let them cast these powerful spells are a resource that isn't regained over longrests, and instead have to be purchased, crafted, or found, becoming a resources as precious as potions or magic items. Usually, players will just be fighting with their basic melee combat and martial applications, saving these powerful Spell Pouches in the backs of their pockets for when they really need them.
The actual spell lists for Martial Applications and Crafted Applications are still works in progress, so I can't display them here. I want to get some feedback on these ideas before I get too deep in these spell lists. What parts of this homebrew do you like? Do you think it achieves the goals I set out to achieve? What are parts that could be improved, and how? Are there any things that need clarification? Please, I desperately need help!!
TL;DR: I'm going to run a campaign where the players are being introduced to a whole new homebrewed magic system that they know nothing about, and will have to learn about the magic system and new spells as it goes on. Players use a resource called Energy Lvls instead of spell slots, which must be prepared with a bonus action before use and can be regained through an action called the Rest action, which does nothing but return the players' spent Energy Lvls at the start of next turn. Players will be introduced to a flexible soft magic system that I'll be managing with my own imagination, where they're able to cast spells either through martial arts routines (passing athletics/acrobatics checks to succeed on casting) like in ATLA, or by putting together ingredients for powerful spells in Spell Pouches that can be cast whenever, but cannot be regained as a resource.

Day 9: Freedom at last

Ok, let’s kill Claude. I did search up his weaknesses last night and he has 9 shields and is only weak to lightning and darkness, so I’m going in with scholar throné, inventor ochette, armsmaster Castti and thief Partitio.
Each of them are able to hit a weakness, though Castti needs to concoct with dark delions. I decided to buy 20 in orerush, probably overkill, but it’ll be useful for other bosses. probably. Anyways, let’s kill him.
On the way, I found a snow drake. I replaced it with the snow yak, as it’s just a straight up upgrade. Also, why is there a snow drake here? There’s not even snow?
Anyways, when I made it to lost seed I decided to purchase the moon eater, getting a 18000 leaf discount. I then equipped it on Partitio. This will be extremely useful going forward. I’ll eventually give it to Agnea, as she needs the elemental attack and Partitio will eventually get a different fire weapon after throne’s story ironically.
I also captured a wind remnant and ettin snake. I replaced the great condor with the remnant as hellwind is just better. The ettin will be very useful as it deals AOE fire twice, so it’s basically like firestorm. Anyways onto Claude.
First up is throné who uses veil of darkness to knock off a shield and deals 1833 damage. Castti then concocts 2 darkdelions to break 2 shields and deals 400 damage. Ochette then uses leghold trap to put Claude to the back as Partitio uses darkest night to knock off a shield for 1400 damage.
Next turn, Partitio and Castti do the same thing for the same effect, throné uses darkest night for 2527 damage and knocks off a shield, and Ochette uses beastly howl to break and lower elemental defence.
Ochette is up first next turn and fully boosts with the glacius for around 13000 damage. Throné then latent powers, fully boosting darkest night for 23200 damage then using veil of darkest on the next for 4360 damage, knocking him to yellow. Partitio then fully boosts ember for an 25000 damage as Castti fully boosts with icicle for 14600 damage.
Next turn, Claude does his speech and uses chained pride, locking our main job skills then uses endurance test for 600 damage. Throné then uses elemental barrage for the win.
Ok, WOW! Did not expect it to be that easy. Now I can remove throné from the party and get Partitio’s final weapon, the moonfang. To get it, I need to fast travel to the garden orphanage and… steal from a child. Ok then?
Anyways, I traveled over there and stole the knife from a shield. Honestly I don’t understand why it’s locked behind throne’s story. It’s weaker than the moon fang, which you can technically get earlier. Whatever. Ranting aside it’s still great for Partitio so I gave it to him and gave his moonfang to Agnea.
I also stole the shadowsage necklace, which I gave to throné. It increases elemental attack and SP by 40, so it’s quite useful. Throné won’t be in my party for awhile, as I wanna give the other characters some love, but when she is, she’ll be insane. I’ll effectively use her as a last resort.
So apparently in gravell, I can get a really good staff weapon called the diamond staff. I do need to extend the shop however, so I scrutinized/inquired almost everyone at night (except for a girl, but she had like a 28% chance so I wasn’t gonna risk it yet) then bribed everyone with hikari at night.
I eventually got it after 2 bribes. It’s actually in the weapon’s shop and is a mercenary. Anyways, now that I have it, I purchase one for Castti. She has been lacking in elemental damage because her previous staff only had 185 elemental attack, compared to everyone else’s being at a minimum of 320 (or 260 in the case of hikari). Plus it’s also all I can afford at the moment.
Ok, let’s try the scourge again. It’s actually got more HP than Claude at 95000 and has 12 shields, and can only be broken with fire and light on its first weaknesses (at least for us). In addition, there’s a chance it could change its weakness to all weapons, which at that point we’re screwed. Oh, did I mention it can also remove party members.
However, I do believe I can do it. I’m stronger, I’m bigger, and I’ve got better “strategy”. Anyways, I’m going in with scholar throné, merchant Agnea, armsmassti, and thief Partitio. Wish me luck, cuz I’ll need it.
First up is Agnea, who uses windy refrain to get everybody ahead of the boss and deals 1418 damage. Throné then uses elemental barrage knocking off no shield but dealing around 2000 damage. Partitio uses ember for 2588 damage and knocks off a shield. It was at this moment I realized I had no lilies of light. Oops. Anyways, Castti uses 2 which knocks off 2 shields for 440 damage.
Next turn, throné uses uses elemental barrage and knocks off no shields again. I meant to latent power but I forgot. Ok, I think I’ll reset on this and buy some lilies of light in cannel brine. That was a disaster.
Anyways, I bought 30 of them and refight the boss for the 3rd time. I also get Agnea deal more damage, as I forgot to do that. First up is Agnea again who uses windy refrain for the same amount of damage and effect but throné ends up knocking off 3 shields instead of none and deals around 2300 damage. Nice. Partitio uses ember for around the same effect, same as Castti with the lilies.
Next turn, Throné actually uses her latent power and uses elemental barrage twice knocking off 4 shields and dealing around 3500 damage. Agnea then uses ember for 1880 damage and Castti uses 2 lilies of light to break it for 600 damage. Partitio then 2 boosts with ember for around 12000.
Agnea then fully boosts with sweeping gale for 11000 damage. Partitio latent powers and fully boosts with ember for around 16000 damage, knocking it to yellow. Throné then fully boosts with veil of darkness for around 13000 damage and to cause its next attack to miss. Castti then uses icicle at fully boost for 15000 damage. By my calculations, it should be at around 15000 hitpoints. I think a fully boosted Partitio can kill that but let’s see.
The scourge then uses starboard straight, leaving on Castti and throné. Shoot, that’s bad. Castti then uses two lilies of light to knock off 2 shield and deal 1800 damage? Oh wait, I accidentally used the damage against Claude. Silly me. Though it should matter as it’s at red health anyways. Throné then uses analyze, showing it has 12500 hitpoints.
Next, the scourge uses starboard straight in Castti then increases its shields and changes its weaknesses. Oh sh*t, that’s bad. Throné then uses veil of darkness to hopefully cause any attack it does to miss next turn and deals 1384 and luckily knocks off a shield. Partitio and Agnea end up coming back next turn aswell.
The scourge then uses attack (which misses) and frigid flurry which deals about half our HP. Throné then two boosts with veil of darkness for 2755 damage and knocks off another shield. Castti also comes back next turn.
Next up is Agnea, who can’t really do much and the scourge goes twice after her. However, I use her latent power and one boost to stimulate the entire party, causing them to act before the scourge then uses a medium grape with throné on Partitio as he fully boosts with ember… for 5212 damage. Ok not bad. It uses pressure, which lowers our attack stats and then whirling tide which misses.
Cassti then fully boosts with her latent power, using 4 darkdelions and a strengthening serum… for a pitiful 1600 damage. Darn it, I also forgot it changed its weaknesses. Anyways, Agnea uses windy refrain at 1 boost for 811 damage. The scourge then uses shipwreck, which does nothing thanks to the veils. Throné uses another veil of darkness for 474 damage as Partitio 1 boosts with ember… for the win.
Ok, that was fun. I even got to use stimulate, which I rarely ever use in a normal playthrough. Anyways, I fast travel back and get temenos on the party and head toward the lost isle at night.
I got the sublime elemental armour on the way aswell. This will be very useful for Ochette as my tank, as it halves almost all elemental damage. Anyways, at the lost isle I got the arcanist job which I immediately gave to throné. I use up all my JP and manage to get price of power. This will make throné an absolutely insane magic user. It doesn’t increase her veil of darkness damage but I’ll still be using it as it’s a very useful skill for evading attacks.
This also means I can use hikari as a scholar for setting up advanced magic or even Alephan’s. I’ll eventually buy him the diamond rod but that’s for later. For now he’s got the fortune wand. Actually, I just remembered there’s the great sage staff on the lost isle.
I went over, almost getting killed by a blood revenant, and got it and equipped it on hikari. Now he’s actually competitive with other characters. I also equip the blessing in disguise on Osvald as I forgot he has a staff that lowers physical defence.
Unfortunately that’s all I can do for today. That was a very productive day and I can’t wait for the next session. It won’t be tomorrow as I’ve got stuff to do but on Saturday I’ll hopefully get temenos’ story done. Anyways, have a great day/evening, I’ll see you around.

From picking bears over blokes as the safer option, to taking more control of dating apps like Bumble – it’s time men started listening (really listening) to women, writes Femi Oluwole
There’s been a plethora of online discussion between men and women for the last month, especially on TikTok, centering around women being asked whether they’d rather be left alone in a forest with a bear – or a man. It might not surprise you to hear that in this particular face-off, bears are winning.
American comedian Khadijah Cooper even posted a video of a bear charging to attack a group of hikers, but then turning around when they screamed at it. She then said: “Did y’all see how the bear was like ‘Give me your number’ and the people were like ‘No’, and the bear was like ‘Oh OK, I’m leaving.’ And so men, that’s why.”
Women have given various reasons as to why they’d choose the bear: from the simple fact that there are rules and guidelines for how to ensure a bear leaves you alone, but there aren’t the same rules for men.
Research tells us they’re right: there are just 40 bear attacks on humans worldwide every year, and one fatal black bear attack per year in the US. There’s almost a 1 in 2.1 million chance of being attacked by a bear.
Yet look at the stats for attacks by men: every year more than 100 women are killed by men in the UK alone – on average, a woman is killed by a man every 2.6 days. According to the Femicide Census, 62 per cent of these women will have been killed by a current or former partner.
So why do so many men online seem offended that women would seemingly rather fight a bear than hang out with them? We’ve heard the debates around whether it’s fair to treat “all men” as a threat, based on the actions of a few; and the witless hashtag #notallmen. We’ve heard the inane protestations by misogynistic women-haters like Andrew Tate. But they’re all missing the point.
I think it’s completely fair and justified for women to be concerned around men. And I’m speaking as someone who can hold his own in a fight with another man; yet (because of my own experience of early trauma) I am still triggered if I am around someone bigger than me.
Compare that to the experiences of most women – especially those who have had traumatic experiences with men. We know that 97 per cent have been harassed. One in four women have experienced some form of sexual violence.
Is it really so surprising they’d choose to be alone with a bear, given the risks?
You might be asking: what can men do? How can “good guys” (not just ones that pretend to be) help? Well, I fully believe that it’s our job is to be aware of everything women are fighting against – the fact that they tell each other the names and addresses of first dates, with dark jokes about how their friends will be “able to tell the police where to find my body”; that they can’t even go out jogging without being harassed or cat-called.
And now some men might be cheering at the announcement they will now be able to message first on the Bumble dating app. But is this really a victory for men, or yet another example of women trying to solve the problems created by men?
As a bloke who uses apps like Bumble, personally I’m a little disappointed that women will no longer always “make the first move” – I liked getting that little bit more insight into the person I’m talking to before I opened my mouth. But maybe that’s the point – and it’s a good life lesson. Because the consequences of someone not revealing their true colours soon enough on dating apps are statistically far more serious for women than for men.
The stats alone should be a warning: 57 per cent of women have been harassed on dating apps, compared to 21 per cent of men. Women have quite literally been killed on first dates: like 21-year-old Grace Millane, who was strangled to death in an Auckland hotel room following a Tinder date in 2020; or Sade Robinson, a 19-year-old college student who told friends last month she was “excited” about meeting a 33-year-old man for dinner. Part of her dismembered body was found on a beach a day later.
In 2022, Blanca Arellano, 51, travelled from Mexico to Peru to meet a man she’d been chatting to online. Two weeks later, parts of her body were also recovered on a beach.
We need to know this stuff. It shouldn’t just be optional for men to understand women’s need for safety, given what they experience online and “IRL” – it should be mandatory.
So, what made Bumble change its mind, given that its unique selling point was that women had to make the first move, so they could at least control the initial interaction? After all, the reviews of this key feature, at least anecdotally, have been good: my female friends tell me that, unlike with other apps, this avoids them opening their phone to a tonne of inappropriate messages from men at once, which can put them off dating apps altogether.
But my friends do also say that the inability to spot red flags from the beginning makes them nervous – and I can see why. Initial messages from men can force them to show their problematic true colours straight away – and women can weed out the bad ones.
In that case: maybe Bumble’s new “Opening Moves” feature – where men can begin the conversation by responding to a question the woman has asked on her profile – is a healthy compromise?
Now if you’re a woman reading this, as they say online, keep scrolling. You already know all of this and don’t need a man like me to tell you about it. I’m not here to mansplain your harassment.
But if you’re a man, you better be listening. And sure, you might be annoyed that everything I’ve just said seems to imply that men are awful to women. And that might be because you see yourself as respectful to women, and you’ve never seen anyone you know be disrespectful to women (really?). To you, I am sure I sound like a “pick-me” boy, performatively man-hating for a female audience. Well... hold that thought. Hear me out. Just take a look online.
Us men need to talk to our family and friends and arm ourselves with awareness and understanding. We need to listen carefully to the sexist attitudes to women some of our mates might have – and call them out for it; even if they’re “just a joke”.

DADDY SISSOKO IS BACK AGAIN. This man wins literally every battle and tackle I swear to god. Strong as a bull. Slap an engine on this bad boy and he has 95 sprint speed , 99 dribbling along with excellent passing stats.
Has 8 playstyles including bruiser + and incisive pass + for buttery through balls.
Plays great for me in DIV 2 rivals and got 14 wins with him as my true CDM last weekend league.
Don’t let the 89 rating fool you. He has better stats and more playstyles than 90 TOTY Essien. This man is a beast.
Give him a try if you haven’t already completed the Defensive mid EVO.
