PUG: Jompiy are quite a lot like Damien Hirst’s spin paintings.
EJ: I liked his figurative paintings that Tate didn’t include any of, in that solo show that had virtually everything else he’d ever done. I think Tate will be showing Heckel’s Horse before long.
PUG: What makes you think that?
EJ: It would be poetic. Darth Vadar comes to his senses and everyone’s rescue. There’ll probably be some new maverick Director that comes along and wants to make an easy name for herself.
PUG: How about a Heckel’s Horse Jr. show there instead? I liked the Heckel’s Horse Jr. book.
EJ: Thanks. They’re currently available to all our Fan Club members on Tiers 2 and 3. If someone was interested in finding out more, all they’d have to do is simply visit https://blackivory.org/fan-club/
PUG: Is there anything planned for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: As far as I can tell, it’s on the back burner till whoever’s in charge decides the time’s right for a show. Billy’s been trying to push things along for years, pretty much since we started doing them.
PUG: You need this new Tate Director.
EJ: We need someone to forcibly step in with the interest, clout and balls to act irrespective of any commercial consequence or fretting what the art world and its clientele think. Like some benevolent Stuckist ex-hedge fund manager who says “Let’s do a show because of all that stuff in the Stuckism manifesto.”
PUG: Like a hostile takeover. Might Heckel’s Horse Jr. being published speed things along for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: Apparantly the opposite. It might put them off, but whatever. It shouldn’t be all beholden to any audience thing. There needs to be a punk movement in Contemporary Art. Like Black Ivory but slightly more influential. None of this prissy “We’re not allowed to do this, we’re not allowed to do that. The clients might not like this, the clients might not like that.” I don’t know anything about how the art world functions but there’s an obvious staleness and near-universal obedience to it. Then you get things like Stuckism or our semi-Stuckist-splinter-group Black Ivory that, like opt out of the audience as target idea. That are happy to be a disgrace. I think they asked the bass player from the Manics what it was like walking around dressed up in their band gear, round their local working-class mining village in skirts and makeup, and he says “We just wanted to be hated.” I like that about Stuckism and the seemingly repellent and toe-curling bridge-burning stuff we do. The term “target audience” is business talk for a reason. Target audiences are for things like Persil Automatic, not artists. Artists worrying about this stuff is just depressing and I guess is all counter-productive to what they’re after anyway.
PUG: How would it be counter-productive?
EJ: Because it’s like some saggy-headed donkey that’s given up. Part of the shuffling crowd, which is shame if your art isn’t. Not believing in yourself. That’s how it all looks to me anyway. When I see photos of Stuckists prancing around in clown costumes outside Tate it’s so appealing. They’re building walls between themselves and the people everyone else is so desperate to be approved by.
PUG: So can Black Ivory save Contemporary Art?
EJ: We’ll stack a load of six footer Heckel’s Horse Jr. paintings against the walls. A few in the front room with the sofas, tables and chairs and whatnot. I’ll be walking round with a full teapot. Invite some friends round and do it as Stuckism would do it. Leave the evidence on our YouTube channel as Van Goghian proof for future generations that today’s Contemporary Art wasn’t just the text book stuff.
PUG: Stuckism was quite punk influenced but the art world’s still largely what it was beforehand.
EJ: Stuckism bothered. Like leading a horse to water. It’s like even the anti-establishment are only considered successful when the establishment accept them. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists should do a manifesto about it. Stuckism‘s not for our benefit, it’s for yours. Our “failures” are your problem. We’re waking up and painting either way. We don’t need the art world. We don’t need the Turner Prize to show us what a decent painting looks like. I’m only talking about it not shaking up the artworld obviously, not the work or anything important, but like we’ve both done loads of Stuckist Turner Prize demos, published a Stuckist Turner Prize manifesto, as far as I know, the Turner Prize is still going strong. So what? Did the demos fail? Are our paintings worse now? If nothing else, it’s nice to get out the house. I like the Turner Prize demos because it’s like getting bashed on both sides. By the establishment and the hipsters. Usually it’s like, choose a team: brand A or brand B and kid yourself there’s a difference. The establishment think they’re winning and the hipsters think they’re cool and anti-establishment. Stuckism chooses neither, which I see as the only real anti-establishment. Stuckism‘s failures, if anything, proove its success becuase punk succeeded in it’s non-musical objectives, it became chart music. No chance of Stuckism falling for that one. How’s that for a theory? Failure isn’t failure. Failure’s success because failure’s longevity and success is failure. Stuckism‘s a roaring failure.
PUG: A new punk Tate for Heckel’s Horse.
EJ: I did some assistant work for Jimmy Cauty years ago, on these glittery riot shields. I think around 2016. The tracksuit bottoms still have the gold glitter and PVA stuck to them. I can’t remember if I was talking about Heckel’s Horse or something else, but Billy and I couldn’t have done too many by then. It might have been something else, but I tell Jimmy we’ve done all this work and nothing’s getting published, and he says ‘So, when’s the bonfire?’ The man who burned a million pounds. Ten years later, he we are, same situation. Thankfully, as far as I’m aware, still no bonfire. So overall, things are going great for Heckel’s Horse. All the paintings are still probably in existence.
PUG: Just a lot more of them now.
EJ: I’ve got this image of Heckel’s Horse paintings being taken at night to some secret billionaires island off the South Kent coast and chucked on a blazing fire with a load of men in white suits standing round drinking champagne, each with a cigar between their teeth going ‘Ha! Ha! Fuck you Edgeworth!’
PUG: Then there’d just be the Heckel’s Horse Jr.’s left and you could sell them for millions.
EJ: You’re a genius.
PUG: All those paintings will end up in a show at some point.
EJ: It’s been eleven years. Could be another twenty, thirty. I had this paranoia, they’d pretend they were by Billy and cut my name out. If Billy and I aren’t around. Even if I’m still around, who’s going to listen to me?
PUG: Do you reckon?
EJ: I don’t even know who it was, but some lying fart-face decided it would be alright to pretend these monoprints Billy and I collaborated on would be better sold off as ‘by Billy Childish’ and not by both of us. So that’s what happened. Like a click of the fingers, “Bye bye Edgeworth.” Pretty unimpressive, I thought.
PUG: Didn’t you say anything?
EJ: No, what’s going to happen? Better to say nothing then moan about it ten years later. The way I see it, I’m not the one lying so it’s not my problem. Do you know what I mean? It shouldn’t be on me to object if they’re doing it on purpose.
PUG: So it’s not like Damien Hirst and his assistant’s painting butterflies.
EJ: No. It’s sort of, not wanting to flatter the people that erased my attribution with the idea they’re worth bothering with. Because it’s not like I was upset or felt hard done by. It was just disillusionment in one thing, addressed by the creation of another, Black Ivory Printmaking & Audio Club. If anything it’s a net positve. “So that’s the kind of people you really are. What a fantastic opportunity!”
Damien Hirst’s different. It’s all declared and everyone knows the deal. There’s nothing dodgy about it. It’s not like some slippery gallerist-type shifts the goalposts after the works done, like they’ve got some licence to change the truth. The buyers know what they’re buying, the artists know what they’re doing. These monoprints were a thick painterly transfer technique I came up with and haven’t seen anywhere else. Until I see any that look similar, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a type of monoprint of my invention. And they think they can just sign that away from me. If people see mine now, the ones I did independently using the same technique, they’ll probably think I copied it from Billy, which I think’s quite a liberty. “Taking Berty’s.” as we said at school.
PUG: Didn’t they ask you about it first?
EJ: No, I just get emailed after with some apparent excuse. If you’re some no-name pushover like me, I guess they think it’s alright. It might all have been a lot more innocent than it looked from my end, but if they’re like this with some few hundred quid monoprints, what’s it going to be like with all these crates of 6ft paintings that are worth a fortune? Not exactly reassuring to think of Heckel’s Horse in these people’s hands.
PUG: Welcome to the art world.
EJ: It might end up for the best. A lot of why I started doing Heckel’s Horse Jr. was to get the Heckel’s Horse story out the door. A lots been done already. Billy and I want to get Heckel’s Horse paintings in front of people. Billy‘s spoken about it in interviews that I’ve super-glue-referenced into the Billy Childish wikipedia page. L-13 have done a load of prints. Things are going pretty well. The less behind-the-scenes Heckel’s Horse is, the harder I guess it is for the truth to get fudged later. Especially if Billy and I aren’t around by the time anything happens.
PUG: You’ve always got Jompiy.
EJ: Yeah, my solid backup plan. I don’t need to worry about Jompiy getting nicked.

I've been a tennis fan for a long time, and not since I was a kid watching Agassi and Sampras do I remember the men's side being so good from top to bottom. The women's game has never been better. There have been obvious periods of sustained greatness by individuals(and the obvious triumvirate of men), but every match is good now.
There was a rather long few years where rankings didn't matter in the women's game because no one could serve and the tennis was... less than stellar. Rankings barely matter now, but for the exact opposite reason. There are very young players that I've never heard of that stand out at every tournament and give the seeds great matches. The top 4 on the women's side are appointment viewing. I can't remember any time when that was the case since Steffi et al, and the all around tour is a lot better than it was then.
The men's side finally has the generation ready to take the torch, and are they ever fun to watch. Alcaraz's "tennis is life" vibe fills my cup every time I watch him play, Medvedev's fire and humor are enormously fun to watch, and the rest of the top 10 can provide an epic match on any day. Add Nole's ability to dig out of anything through sheer willpower and Murray still out there being such a fiery, stubborn competitor and it's really tough to find a match that isn't extremely entertaining. That doesn't even begin to discuss their incredible athleticism, variety, power, and consistency.
That both tours can be in such good shape at the same time after the recent retirement of some GOATs is a testament to how far Roger, Rafa, and Serena pushed the sport and the next generation. I'm really excited for the next decade or more just based on who is already great, and I'm sure they'll push even further.
Am I just a prisoner of the moment, or is this really a special time for tennis?

2024.05.17 04:16 ScooterMcTavish Nike Zoom Fly 5 First Run

Nike Zoom Fly 5 First Run
After re-entering the world of running a few months ago, I was interested in trying something in a plated shoe. When Sportchek in Canada put this colorway on sale for $169, plus loyalty points totalling $86, net cost after tax was $100. Seemed worth a try, despite the mixed reviews.
About me as a runner: Ex-soccer player and coach, mid-50s, have not played competitive sports since my mid-30s, 5'8.5" and 187lbs, walk-run 12-15 mi/week, also normally get in 4-8k steps/day, and golf 9-18 holes per week. Am an underpronator, and a rear mid-foot striker. Been working towards a 30:00 5k 3x per week, then increasing mileage. Goals are weight loss and cardio fitness.
For a first run in the shoes, I did 3.1mi on the treadmill alternating 3 min walking and 3 min running. Average pace was 11:22/mi, and HR averaged 138. Typically would be a bit lower but I'm still coming off a bout of flu.
Initial fit: Was one of the odder shoes I've tried on. Footbed was narrow to the back of my arch (uncommon for most shoes) and felt a bit built up between the ball of the foot and the toes. But the upper was nicely snug, with one of the easiest tightenable lacing systems I've seen. Plus the laces moved easily to keep any row from feeling too tight.
Warm up walk: I have Morton's toe, and a right foot 1/2 size smaller than the left, which makes sizing and fit interesting. Due to wanting to maximize the benefit of the rocker, I ordered a size 10 - a touch smaller than my normal 10.5. Having the shorter size was certainly noticeable and allowed me to better roll off the toe.
Again, the fit was just slightly odd, and I was feeling pressure in strange parts on my feet. But the rocker was very nice, and made me want to pick up the pace.
Running: When I stopped concentrating on the shoe, I really didn't notice it. In other words, perfectly acceptable for a new pair of shoes. I also expected it to feel more rigid with the carbon plate, but for a rigid-foot underpronator, I typically don't overflex my foot or toes.
Due to my weight, I typically prefer a firmer cushioned shoe (i.e. Saucony Triumph). The Nike were a bit firmer than I'm used to, and reportedly soften over time. I hope so as shock absorbency could have been better.
General impressions: Shoe was certainly firmer than expected, somewhat offset by a smooth roll and good geometry.
But I am certainly feeling some new and exciting pain in unfamiliar places. The carbon plate is likely not allowing my knees to roll naturally, causing an ache on top. Fortunately, it's not sore under the knee where I've recently had bursitis.
My quads are also surprisingly sore - considering I stretch and do squats daily, it is uncommon for them to hurt from walk/runs. If anything, I would guess it may be from the knees and thighs having to absorb more shock than normal.
Oddest of all, I had numbness on a good portion of the bottom of my feet. It wasn't painful, and there's no lasting ache, but it was very very odd.
Conclusion: The new and strange aches in my legs suggest I may have to take a couple of days off. Never a desired outcome from a new shoe.
Question I have at this point is if the shoes are worth breaking in. Or possibly I need to shelf them until my weight and times come down.
Possibly I've been spoiled by all of the great "comfort out of the box" shoes I've bought in the last few months. And possibly I'm past the age where I feel like breaking in shoes.
But as a first pair of plated shoes, I am fascinated at a pleasant rigidity, and a sole profile that seems like it will be helpful in adding speed without excessive effort.

2024.05.17 03:29 GamecockFoz Challenge

For the most part, I’m liking the game. Granted, I never played other tennis games prior to this, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. With that said, there’s 3 things I believe would add to the game— -Be able to challenge line calls -Increase/Extend the journey toward maxing out your MyCareer player. Level 30 comes quick if you’re playing a lot (Could also be another $ option for 2k) -Similar to the WWE2k series, let there be some off the court interactions with other players. Build an alliance for a potential doubles partner you trust; maybe have a little bad blood between another player leading to a rivalry of sorts? Just my 2 cents.

2024.05.17 03:06 racquetsportaddict Racquet change for wrist pain?

Last year I bought a 2019 Pure Aero and use it as my main driver since I bought it. I’ve since been told that it might not be the best for my general play style by my stringer since apparently Babolat in general have relatively stiff racquets. I don’t know how much stock to take in that considering the online spec says it’s an RA of 67.
I’m a rec player and have done a few recent UTR flex leagues in the last year, but past that I don’t have a very serious “tennis career” if you will. That being said, I tend to switch between my three racquets, my other two being a Wilson Prostaff Precision 100 from Dick’s Sporting Goods bought 2022 and a Head Nano TI.S4 from the early 2000s. For any racquet nerds you might know in general spec my Wilson is similar to the Pure Aero but the Head Nano is super light in comparison.
Recently I’ve been feeling some discomfort in my wrist and I’m curious what the general thoughts are on here. Would it be more because I don’t dedicate to one racquet? Or that my main racquet is too stiff? For additional context I have a one handed backhand and I have no coach. Any input is appreciated.

2024.05.17 01:37 Choedan_Kal Incursions update and more: my thoughts and feedback (long)

Wow, what an impressive update.
The last time I played ES2 was after it went to full release. My last update here was about how I finally pushed through and completed lunacy 1000 with my striker. At the time, I was one of the very few players who had accomplished it as evident by achievements. It was extremely difficult and took many tries. Once I hit that personal milestone, I found the endgame content had dried up. In my post I submitted feedback that endgame should be continued and expanded.
Incursions is everything I asked for when I signed off a year ago. This update breathes new life into Everspace, further fleshing out end game content for players and providing tons of new ways to play. I am so glad they knocked this out before releasing new paid DLC that extends the story.
Between the armed and dangerous and incursions updates, I had a lot of new content to digest. I was pleased the developers automatically upgraded all my prior legendary items to radiant, as it saved a ton of time. While farming all the new gear, I also realized that I was missing nearly half of the mainframe expansions. I figured there was no way I was going to be able to reach my new goal, lunacy 2000 without reliquary, unless I was 100% upgraded, so I did fucking EVERYTHING to upgrade my ship. It was nice revisiting a lot of the old locations and using the discovery map feature to track everything down.
Finally, after a few weeks of grinding, I had my ideal ship. I’ve never been a “meta” player and I knew doing things my way instead of the optimal meta way would be impossible for me without it.
So my striker has 100% starforged, catalyst upgrades, 3 active items sets, 4 radiant legendary, perfect passives and full mainframe expansions. I am an energy beam lover in any game. If you can shoot a beam laser in a game, that’s what I play. It’s one of the reasons I love Everspace so much. Unfortunately, beam weapons aren’t the most powerful, and since I don’t use aim assist on principal, enemies can sometimes be challenging to keep a bead on. Especially those damn raiders.
Well, after many tries and some luck, I was finally able to beat lunacy 2000 today with no reliquary. I am so happy with this accomplishment. I tried so many different strategies, delicately turning the knob between more damage and more survivability, until things finally worked. The boss fight was intense as hell. All consumables used, emergency shield glowing, no rockets left in the barrel and cooldowns all blown. I can proudly say I did the entire run without any cheesy tactics, and instead was constantly brawling toe to toe, utilizing all the strengths I had acquired for my ship. It was one of those few times in my gaming life that I took a screenshot at the end to celebrate.
Now that I’ve hit my goal I plan on experimenting with some fun builds and ships. I’m curious to see if I can push the envelope with some other play styles. I also wanted to share some thoughts and feedback, in no particular order, on the updated content.
That’s all my thoughts for now. Love this game and looking forward to the future content. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.17 00:29 the_mist_maker What Belongs in a Quickstart Guide

I've heard the sentiment that new players trying a game for the first time can be expected to crack open a main document hundreds of pages and long and make any sense of it, so a short Quickstart Guide is a good way to dip a toe in, so to speak.
But what do you believe goes in that Quickstart Guide? Everything in the full manual has a purpose (hopefully), so what do you cut to get it down to just a few pages? And what are the few essentials that MUST be in there?

2024.05.17 00:26 DirtyMonkey_66 Frustration or just feeling hopeless idk

So, I think I should start describing my kinda insightful thought in some way.
I've been a regular ARAM player for about 3 years, usually in a relaxed manner, but when I came across a more interesting champ than Zilean or other shit like this I liked to hunch down a bit and stay focused but today's situation was lowkey the last straw that breaks the camels back. I pretty much enjoy playing quite unconventional picks: ap viego, ad ahri, classic every possible variant of ezreal, but please tell me, when did riot games overloaded game with dmg that hard that if I'm playing any mage fucking ap kaisa is oneshoting me from like 1000 range in 6 secs (cuz ofc she has got resets :D). When tf riot games claimed it's good idea to rework adc items for making this role ain't flexible like ever before?? Thank god we got so much new skins!!! I dont even know how much money I've spent on this game and now being restricted cuz Ive told somebody he is fucking shit and he should never play this game (tl:dr pyke player started some crappy actions then running down whole ranked). Deleting vision potion from aram was so fucking bad decision too, who even wanted to see shaco or teemo as frequently as they are drawn in lobby, fucking nobody!! Riot thinks they make game more pleasent and easy for casuals but only thing they do is messing up with annoying shit, not listening to actual players, instead being open only for voice of fucking retarded cosplayers, skins collectors and other creeps without any other type of social life but the LoL. Give me fucking reperation for my maestry tokens I had been completing as you did when rebranding IP for BE (another "xD" change).
And the worst fucking thing ever, why tf any Chinese company is able to see every part of my PC's memory?? Why isn't it banned as the whole Google fighting with adblock was (at least in UE)? I don't claim it's not helping with scripters or something, ofc it does, but aren't there less invasive methods? ofc they are, but w/e.
My point is, riot games is making game less attractive to the most representated type of player, casual guy who sometimes watches some esports, sometimes plays ranked games for testing himself. I know there were like 1000 of posts like this and this is nothing new, I just wanted any rioter to read this: Your company fucking sucks, you cant balance your game, watching k'sante every fucking pro game and seeing him being fucking diff is disgusting, playing your game is disgusting too, it doesnt have any same feeling like for example 7 years ago, when game was srsly about some skill, where you could skillcheck enemy and win by this, not like today, skarner wins game cuz of his fucking overloaded skillset and shitty items, what tf was wrong about sheen giving mana?? Do less toxic designs, more where a player needs to think and train, delete most of these new champions, they are awful and nobody besides otp and tryhard abusers wanna see in this game, last good champion was Renata Glasc, so good skillset and stats, even the W isn't broken that much. W/e its too long

2024.05.17 00:21 Kind2tie_7185 Why is suicide not a option for me?

Don't get me wrong. I'm truly curious, and this question I've been carrying for over a year.
Im a 30 m
Objectively I have lived a terrible odds stacked against me from the start. I was born to a father that took my mother faraway to a farm and isolated us he was quite the abuser with my self going Tru all 5 different tipes my siblings 4 and the youngest only 2 I was the only one that was s## abused. From as Yong as I can remember I plead my mother to leve. Turned in to a super Cristian thus a wife's purpose is to be subject to her husband. Evan though she also went true all 5 she was even r## infront of me.
I mentioned we grew up on a farm in isolated he would work construction jobs all over Africa so most of the time we would be left alone. Work 4 months home 6 weeks the first day that he is back he cums with takeaways and cool drinks and it's a celebration it would normally only be calm for 2-3 days when he would get angry normally before we were to go buy groceries. Witch ment we will have to put that car together and fix it that's normally tha first day that I would blead if it's not from a tool it's because I woed gow far into the field to hide then it would be his lether belt my but would be blue And red brushe sometimes my skin woed split open and blend every time I moved.
The first time I saw a classroom or a teacher was at the age of 13 we got a tv for the first time at the age of 12 so obviously I had no sosial skills it was just a few days a group of bullies introduced me so that was not fun until a few months later when the hieschool librarian looked over our class.
My mom dit taught me to read and math and science (only biblical accurate) so I started reading at 4 at 5 I was at the level of gr3 had to develop my own horrible handwriting. I was good at math though my mom only knew +×÷- and fractions to the second point
The library was my heavin in 3 years personally I graduated done with every book in the library besides most of the story books The problem was I couldn't really speak English I only got exposed to it from the TV so I was on my way to fail Gr6 I didn't during the last term my dad left for work again but this time it was longer we ran out of food and my mom finally ran away with her 5 kids pregnant and starving all the food we had fit into a shoe box and ther was space for my brothers favorite little teddy 🧸 about the size of a tennis ball
We moved to the city we're I found out my mom has siblings thy help us with some basic it was crazy there I could not even cross the streets thy were 3 lanes mutch to wide for a teen cross with out getting run over starting high school I decided I would be the opposite of my history so on the first day I broke the head boy a rather big rugby player nose. That showd them I was never bullied and yet still not cool so I joined the skateboarders I was terrible but they had issues and I'm nothing but broken metal head started smoking never touched weed that's drugs glue as well it makes youcrazy. Though sometimes we would snort white power at the mall. Only after a few months in class I found out there are more tips of drugs. To late now I'm a cat addicted our group grew and we became the popular group we were 40 in the core group if we threw a party 200 people show up I mean some college students started hanging with them college girls hang with me at 17 so obviously the heiskool girls thru them at me nonstop sleeping with 2-3 a night never not wrapped always save. Until I slept with one I actually cared for but not as much as she for me so to get here to disappear I seduced her sister on her bed so she could walk in on that. 3 day later she was found dead in the bath with a letter to her parents on their bed and a long letter for me in her sister underwear full of her blood for me.
My next relationship was my fiance Finally quit drugs 3 years later Completely thought ow yeah remember that I was so smart well turns out I failed gr 9 almost twice shortly before the second time time my mother lost her job I was still partying her savings didn't last we got evicted ran out of food so I quit school and started buying thing from drug dealers and sell them it wasn't long before I afforded a bigger house some time later I moved out paying 2 rents going crazy the drugs were not fun any more my friends are dieing on after the other some go to prison I fought my best friend. I saw what was happening because of the drugs I walk 70 km that weekend faar into the field to escape only with my knife. Not the plan but I lived there for 3 weeks alone my phone is still there somware I came back sober no friends
I didn't fin school so it's only min wage for 3 years trying multiple business all fail until I lost my job again. One day I dit a car port for a lady little did I know that in justover 7 years 2 months before covid i will loos. A my greatest business in going to 8 figure this time 100% legal in one writing of a pen and waist all my saving on loyars to get it back lost my fiance and only child
Went into depression
tryed and failed 3 more business Good diagnose with add and adhd Over came depression Diagnosis with ptsd Found out my 5 year old son is not evan myn Depression again Gave up trying at all tried drugs again for 2 months give up on that two
Move back to the farm where it all started farm is falling It's sort off failng less
Depressioni quit low
And finally today im bulding my own shop with bricks i made my self everything wants to fail this sometimes its so close.
And yeah true all of that's I can honestly say I never had suicide Evan as a though to be a option
Seriously why would I not just end me but I just don't have that option ever
