I see those traits in Fig's protectiveness and dedication. So... why does Porter dance around that specific word/virtue? Surely as a Paladin the concept of loyalty to a devotion/oath/group wouldn't be terribly abstract, right?
I think it's because "loyalty" is often an antonym for "rebellion," and Fig is the archdevil of rebellion. Any conversations regarding this ideal may cause Fig to reevaluate her motivations/identity, and should therefore be handled with more sensitivity and caution. I think Porter is waiting for Fig to come to these realizations on her own.
Following that conversation with her teachers, Fig had a long over-due conversation with her mother. Sandra Lynn engaged Fig as an adult in this conversation, apologizing for her past mistakes. I just had the biggest fall from grace of all time. I can't even begin about how everything has changed.
Two years ago I was chosen clas president of popular vote. I used to be loved by EVERYONE. I had groups dedicated in my image, I was in every girl's DMs, I had girls contacting and prank calling me. I played evry sport, I was the funniest guy in every room I entered. I had group chats where I was the only guy amongs every girl. I. Was. The. Man.
i went to sickbay, I called my parents and without telling them I'm actually a femboy, I told them I'm being bullied for not being masculine enough. They were madder than I anticipated and my mom came to school to speak to my class's director, who then spoke with the principal.
My parents arranged to talk with everyone else's parents and filled a formal complaint.
The bully's parents were poorer, they denied their daughter pushing me and their argument was that she did touch me with her foot, but it is I who tripped over myself and I am just trying to bring down this girl for some reason. They lost the case and to repay us they told us: "don't worry, we will make sure our daughter never speaks to your son ever agin."

I'm not sure what their parents told HER, but I know what evryone now thinks of ME.
Everyone abandoned me. Every one of my friends had the choice between me or their social status, and they chose their status. It didn't matter who it was, how many favors I did for them in the past, for how many years we've known eachother. Once I entered the classroom, EVERY BOY INSTANTLY moved to the back of the classroom. They all gave me the evil eye. When a group joke was made, if I started laughing too they would all stop and stare at me. I was left quietly ignored in the front. They banned me off every group chat, some people straight up blocked me forever.
I thought they were just pretending for the look of popularity in front of the school! But evry day they would completely ignore me.
3 Days later, this person (let's call them L man) was dapping everyone outside school : "bye John, bye Tyler, bye Aaron, not you". I was shocked, since we werent at school anymore, there was no reason to pretend! But no, one of my "friends" straight up told me:

after that they all went in some other direction, even though some of us have the same road home. They left me physically and metaphorically!I had to walk completely alone home again for the first time in forever! It reminded me too much of my painful childhood filled of being bullied for my heigh.
I couldn't believe it
L man himself is an awesome example. He plays rugby and one day at 10 PM he called me telling that I have to be at his next practice tommorow at 6 AM otherwise they kick him out the team for not bringing anyone new. I don't talk a lot to L man, but I did it. I did intensive Rugby for 6 weeks until they found a new player. He was so grateful. He told me that I am the best friend he ever had.
Now just because I have beef with his GF he suddenly ignores everything?
Everyone has a similar story, and they are all also united in another thing. When worse came to worse, EVERYONE chose popularity over their friend since grade school. I only have one true friend, but that guy never had any popularity to begin with. Dan, one of my best friends is a die-hard touhou and HOI4 gamer, he didn't have anything to lose by being my friend. But knowing that HE is the only one to stick around doesn't help too much. point still stands: everyone that could lose something didn't even think twice before leaving me.
It all came togheter when the goup photoshoot for the end of the school year happened. No one wanted to stand next to me. In friend group photos, no one wanted to bring me in.
I fucked up EVRYTHING in the last few moments. The reason I believe got the "bad ending"is because I have won a selfish victory. I am happy with myself as a femboy, but I achieved my wants alone. By getting to this point, I sacrificed every one of my most loyal friends. I know some of them have dark hearts, but they saved me before whenever I was in a bad part of town or in bad company. Now it feels like bad company is all round me.
The way it feels, I achieved my wants but payed the price. And now I'm known as the school's biggest loser. Even worse, the school's biggest f***** rat that betrayed everyone for his own benefits. Losers can be forgiven, snicthes get stitches yk? I'm leaving to another school next semester, like evryone else. If I just hid for a few more months, I could've ended it all on a positive. Now every yearbook will forevr sew my fate of an absolute loser that gave everyone up for himself. My face will forevr be next to the words: "f*****","snitch","traitor", "rat' etc.

Sometimes it involves strenght to face the painful, the unknown and fearful, often as having to rejects social trends encouraged by others. Genuine acceptance, the balanced heart and mind that can see things as they are, does not imply that everything is acceptable.
