2024.05.19 00:17 ZealousidealForm8917 Noob here help please

Hey guys, I currently have a ROG Ally & XG mobile 6850. I never undock it and play it in handheld mode so I wanna sell it and buy a PC
I would rather build one, but somebody contacted me saying they have a one month old built PC with all of the receipts included. But I am not very knowledgeable on PC specs.
We are looking at doing an even swap. I mainly play RPG games like the Witcher 3 and Elden ring. I love high graphic settings, and my ally does that for me, but if I could get something better at the cost of portability, I think it’s a good idea for me. Is this a good build? The current price for my ally setup is around 1,200 dollars.

2024.05.19 00:17 Occamello Need help finding an anime airing in around 2016

I’m looking for an anime that I found around 2014-16 I think. I think I only saw a couple episodes but it was based around this “magic” academy. I put that in quotation because magic in the series might have been called wishes but I can’t be sure. The main character, a girl with either brown or orange hair (some part of her design or magic was orange) starts out with no manifestation of her “magic” until she gets into some competition or duel with a girl (possibly white haired) and it’s found that her magic is based off her creativity or something similar. Either way, she starts summoning all these artistic things I think. I recall it having pretty good animation for the time.
I haven’t been able to remember the name to look it up and finish it past the first couple episodes. It looked pretty interesting so if anyone can give some ideas about what it was called, I’d love to check it out!

2024.05.19 00:16 NiceDragonfruit9606 From the first chapter of my book. Don't have a name for it really. Epic fantasy, fantasy romance. I'm not really good at writing yet, but I'm studying a lot of other work to improve my style.

He's leaving his village to get away from a civil war between the branch family, and the main family. His dad doesn't expect to win the war Yes I understand d that using dots to represent a pause isn't the best way to do it, and that it confuses people. This is un-revised. I plan to do a little more research to better signal a pause for emotional exclamation. Tell me what you think of my first exerpt
"Why do I have to go mother?, you said I wouldn't be leaving for another 4 more years. so why?" Luceon asked.
"We are sorry son but the circumstances have changed. It is becoming too dangerous for you to stay." His mother said
"Father, at least tell me why I wasn't told before hand. Why so suddenly am I being torn from my home without even a warning?" Said Luceon
His father got down on one knee so as to be close to eye level.
"Luceon my son. You are a wise boy. The light behing your eyes seuggests an age far beyond your years so i..... I assure you that" for a moment his father's cheeks reddened as if he was about to let loose a tear. But only for moment. Then it was gone. His father, ever stoic wished to keep an air of "everything will be alright. Don't worry about us". Although Luceon could tell right away that something was horribly wrong. Something was being kept hidden from him. "I assure you... that if there was another way, we would keep you by our side... one day you will understand why it is you have had to leave."
His younger, adoptive brother by one year, crawled out from behind his father's legs and asked "brother, why are you leaving us? Why do you have to go?" His voice became quivery and a tear slid apart from his left eye. "I don't want you to go brother."
Luceon wrapped his arms around his brother and said "I don't want to go either. I really do hope we'll see each other again one day." He tightly held his brother., just as tight as his throat felt.
His mother stooped beside them and gripped them tightly. She said " Audrey is a fine woman. She is an old friend of ours, and of yours as well. She was here the day you were born. She's even held you in her arms. She has been anticipating the day she would see you again, though it is a bit early.... please come and greet luceon" his mother said aloud, so Audrey, who was still waiting inside the [not yet named animal] drawn carriage could hear, and be signaled to come out.
The woman who stepped out had the brightest shade of red hair he had ever seen. And the deep green color of her emerald eyes was a stark, and beautiful contrast. The fair and smooth features of her face gave him goosebumps. Yes... she had the kind of beauty that could spark war between nations. The kind of beauty that would tempt even the most zealous of clergymen. Yes.. to say she was beautiful was an understatement to be sure.
"Hello there child. I am Audrey Harpa. Though it is far to soon for us to meet, and the circumstances are less than optimal, I am more than happy to make your acquaintance." Her voice had a slight lilt in it. An echo of a forgotten accent, long since sanded away by the cogwheels of time. Luceon tucked himself away behind his father's legs just like his brother. "Luceon" his father said "say hello! You aren't like this with anyone else. Where did this bashfullness come from?"
He reluctantly came out from behind his father, and slowly raised his hand. Instead of stooping down to hold his hand like a normal adult would to greet a child, she stretched her arm down to meet his, as if she were greeting an equal. "I'm not happy for the circumstances either, but.... well, it's nice to make your acquaintance."
"So well spoken for your age" Audrey said
"Son, I would love to stay here with you and hold onto you for a few moments more but.... we really must say goodbye now. Audrey cannot linger any longer " his father stated.
"Father be truthful. Will I ever see you, mother and [unknown name] again?" He asked
This was the final straw that broke his father's composure."Damn this boy's intuition." He thought. He let loose more than a few tears, and his mother followed suit. "I..... I honestly cannot tell you. I really wish I could assure you that we will. But I cannot..."
His mother broke down into sobs next to him and held him. She said through choked tears "son.... promise me one thing.... promise you'll never forget who you are. Promise you'll never forget where you came from..... no matter what obstacles come, or what challenges you face, you came from us, and because of that we..." she was barely able to talk through the sobbing. "We are always with you..." she said as she placed a small leather bracelet adorned with little copper oraments into his palm. "Remember us"
They all held each other a little longer. Him, his mother, father, and tiny little brother. They cried for a few moments then, with his head facing the ground, he walked over to Audrey's side, unable to pick up his face.
Luceons father handed Audrey Luceon's baggage, and a small leather satchel as well as he whispered something into her ear. She nodded her head. And the climbed into the carriage. As the carriage departed, Luceon looked back through the dirty glass paned window to take in one last image of his family and his village. He stared until they were to far to see any longer... once his eyes were sure that they were out of sight.... luceon turned his back on his family. He turned his back on his old cobble stone village that housed his prideful clansmen. He turned his back on the rolling emerald plains that stretched across the isle of skye. He turned his back on scottland And most importantly, he turned his back on his home.
He shed one more solitary tear, and whispered "goodbye."

2024.05.19 00:15 Medium-Wing-4710 The harrowing experience of a cancer-surviving partner turned abuser

Over the course of my 4 year marriage to my partner, I have arrived at the position that I was abused, manipulated, and functionally enslaved to a mentally ill partner.
In simplest form, the progression is apparently observable. She was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2019 while we were engaged. Due to the diagnosis, we moved up our actual marriage date (our wedding was still set for mid-April) to December 1, 2019. Her surgery was December 13, 2019. In my compassion for her, I agreed to move our wedding date up to offset her anxiety around who would be responsible for her if things went south with her surgical treatment.
Our first month of marriage was straightforward; she was on pain meds recovering from surgery, so the main engagement that occurred was me walking her up and down the hospital hallway as she recovered and trying to meet her base physical needs of hygiene, food, and presence. We stayed in the hospital for 2-3 weeks (with recurring hospital visits for complications).
Quickly after we figured out our marital living situation in her small 3-bed apartment with 2 roommates, our relationship devolved. Specifically, she was irritable because of the pain she was in, causing her to lash out at me with regular frequency for small things. If I didn’t put clothes away in the right place, didn’t anticipate her needs (without her communicating them), or ate the wrong food in front of her she would shout at me and decry me for my thoughtlessness.
These small, critical engagements were wounding and created a distance between us – and there was no upside. She was never kind, never paid mind to needs I might have, and started down a path of cultivating a root of bitterness in her soul. She quickly revealed herself to be venomous, hateful, and vindictive when she felt like she was wronged — and any observation of concern about our marriage resulted me in being accused of being mean or insensitive, even if I spent hours or days calculating the best way to share my concern (and I have a master’s degree in communication where I focused in studying disagreement — I know how to carefully package concerns).
During this time, I worked hard to provide for us, foreseeing a significant time period where I would have to be primary financial provider and caregiver. I increased my income each year we were married by around 25%, finishing our marriage at >$80,000 in yearly income, compared to starting our marriage at a modest $42,000 salary (including dramatically improving our healthcare). Frankly, I increased my income to provide for us in spite of the lack of support at home.
But to be clear: I don’t think it would have been particularly difficult to provide financially if I had an ounce of support at home.
However, the relentless criticism and expectation of mind-reading continued through the years. I rationalized this abuse for the first year of our marriage because of all the excuses to be cruel, she had a good one – she had cancer. I hung onto a hope that it would stop. Contrary to my hope, as the years went on – and our expenses climbed – and I continued to work myself to the bone – she continued to relentlessly critique and even started being more emotionally demanding, expecting me to take responsibility for her inability to cope with her emotions – I was drowning. She was asking too much of me. There was no deliverance from her abuse.
I was exhausted. In the peak of the abuse I endured at her hand, I was working multiple jobs, sleeping 10+ hours a night and napping frequently during the day around meetings and work, then coping with alcohol to numb myself to the abusive dynamic and fall asleep with no support from her. The only time I could approach her sexually was when I was intoxicated, with inhibitions lowered. The only time I could have a conversation with her was with a counselor in the room. Without something to mitigate opportunity for her to be cruel to me, either a mediator or self-medication, I was scared.
I lived at home in a constant state of alert and cognitive fatigue. No matter how I tried to make sense of my home life, I couldn’t. When she looked at or touched me, I would recoil in fear, anticipating some sort of incisive critique or demand expressed. Then she would criticize me for not responding warmly to her, exacerbating the cycle.
I couldn’t meet her needs – I was utterly exhausted. When I would tell her of the exhaustion I experienced in marital counseling, her responses were typically something along the lines of not believing me, denying what I was saying was true, or calling my exhaustion an ‘excuse’. I could interact happily with my friends… why not her?
I did not deny her demands were legitimate; rather, I expressed my inability to meet them because of how fatigued I was. I said ‘I can’t’ so many times. I realize her demands were small; affection, saying ‘i love you’, complimenting her. But it’s disorienting to be consistently berated and belittled by a person and then asked to compliment them and tell them you love them.
The push and pull of abuse is exhausting to a person who is not mentally because it does not make sense.
Further, in counseling I realized that I have forgotten that I have needs. I have lost the tools to even evaluate what my needs might be because, implicitly and explicitly in my marriage, I was told my needs don’t matter.
My marriage made no sense; I was obviously drowning, exhausted with the demands our life imposed on me. I was doing everything I could to get straight. I was in individual therapy, marital counseling, pastoral counseling, trying different antidepressants (4 in total – all with no effect), changing eating habits, trying to reduce my drinking, getting medical tests to see if I had health issues causing my fatigue, and being vulnerable in my friendships in an attempt to invite others in to process and move forward and figure out my marriage. I desperately shared everything I could about my marriage, hoping someone else would crack the code where I couldn’t.
None of my efforts worked. I could not get out of the exhausted state I was in. It’s worth noting here that within weeks of separating I almost completely cut out alcohol, got into a regular sleep schedule, was waking up at 6-7am every day and reading multiple hours (which I couldn’t do in marriage due to cognitive fatigue/distraction), and experienced a resurgence of energy. I have felt the duress I was under lift and lift and lift and the weeks and months have went on.
In retrospect, I was experiencing cognitive fatigue because I was taking the demands my wife was placing on me seriously, but no matter what I did I could not make sense of them. How could she not see that I was doing everything I could to make ends meet – the ends which she was imposing on me? I did not have additional energy left. She would ask me ‘Do you love me?’ and I didn’t know how to respond. How is my work not at least some symbol of love? My dream was to be a poor professor, which she knew – instead I was grinding myself to the bone, working in digital marketing with multiple freelance projects, picking up a bartending gig and a teaching gig on top of full-time employment.
The last straw was when she accused me of abuse. I took that accusation seriously, and weighed it against my experience. ‘Am I an abuser?’ I asked myself. I sorted through my behavior and how I treated her. I came to the conclusion that I may be a poor husband in serious ways; but I am not an abuser. And the abuse question opened the door to the question… ‘I may not be an abuser… but is there abuse in our marriage?’ And the answer quickly became ‘Yes.’
When we were married, I understood that she wasn’t going to work much for a while. However, she worked the bare minimum she could for 4 years, earning at most in a single year $18,000. As the years went on and my income climbed, our debt continued to climb as well. She was still contributing the same, yet spending frivolously on useless knick knacks for our home and a cat. As I packed up our home to sell, the majority of items were dozens of boxes of useless junk she’d accumulated.
She lived a life of mania around finances. We would go to marital counseling and she would regularly express, ‘I would rather be poor and happy than rich and sad’. We were poor and sad. Sure, my income was the highest it’d ever been – but we were still drowning, with debts climbing. At the end of our marriage, we’d accumulated about $20,000 in consumer debt between credit cards and personal loans.
It was traumatizing (and abusive) to go to counseling and be told by my partner she would ‘rather be poor and happy and than rich and sad’ when the factual scenario we were living was neither. She actively denied reality – both my lived experience and the reality of our finances – at my expense. It was killing me, trying to make sense of what we were going through but being unable to make sense of what I was being told and what I was experiencing.
Throughout this time, it is worth adding that she also leveraged my spiritual leadership to ‘set me straight’. I was in a conservative Evangelical space, believing that men are the ultimate provider in a family unit and primarily responsible for the status of the marriage. Because I was not doing what she wanted me to (lavishing her with affection), I was muscled into multiple groups and meetings where pastoral care intervened to restore our marriage. In the moment, I submitted to my pastoral care because of my trust for them and my faith in God. Now, I believe this dynamic was abusive; my pastoral care did not care in any sense for my soul; they only cared about fixing my marriage. No questions around ‘why’ my marriage was so bad were asked; only what was going on and how it could be fixed. I relish the thought of my pastoral care being held accountable for the abuse they exercised upon me during this time on judgment day, albeit through a shaken faith in a God that would enable this dynamic.
With my spiritual community, I shared that I felt like she was my tormentor; that she it felt as if I were on the ground due to exhaustion, and she was standing on my throat, telling me to ‘get up’ and ‘tell me you love me’; that our metaphorical life was a boat, sinking, and I was desperately bailing out water. All the while, she stood at the other end of the boat, desperately bailing water in and looking at me like I was a maniac.
And yet, because there was no adultery, there was no category for divorce. We had sworn an oath before God and were required to fix this.
As I reflect upon my marriage (and the ongoing divorce proceedings), a few things are clear.
She is an abuser. I don’t think she intends to be, but impact matters. She is mentally ill and unable to reckon with basic reality.
She is a manipulator. She manipulated my spiritual community against me. I was viewed as someone to be corrected while begging for help from my trusted friends and pastoral care, whom I now regret being vulnerable with due to their abuse and denial of my reality because I didn’t fit neatly into their thin theological categories.
She is an enslaver. In divorce proceedings, she is doing everything she can to get every dollar from me, leveraging student loans I did not co-sign, my continually increasing income due to my hard work, and denying every claim of dissipated assets she can.
It is truly a mind-breaking experience to see your compassion leveraged against you for money. I had to sit under an attorney proclaiming to a judge that, since I consented to move up our marriage date before her cancer surgery, ‘I knew what I was getting into’. That she is entitled to large sums of money (that do not exist; we never had more than $3000 in our bank account during marriage) due to that decision.
Even apart from the abuse, I did not know what I was getting into. Including the abuse, I am full of remorse for having invited such an evil, hateful person into my life.
This experience has been the most challenging to my faith. As I endured abuse from her, I trusted God in a few ways. That the compassion I showed would maybe be rewarded – or, at least not punished. That my spiritual community wanted what was best for me. That God was not a punitive, hateful God (like my partner). I do not believe this trust was well placed, but am open to shortcomings in my views here.
I struggle to consent to a God that allowed my experience to occur. I’m open and processing in some kind of faith, but I really don’t know what it looks like to find a place to put this pain and betrayal that I’m experiencing.
I am a survivor of abuse, and the abuse I endured was mind-shattering. I sacrificed everything to support a partner diagnosed with serious bodily illness, which drove her to hate me and deny my lived experience because she could not reconcile it with the hatefulness she cultivated over our marriage, choosing bitterness over any positivity for four years, poisoning my well-being in the process.
What I envisioned to be the most compassionate moment of my life — marrying a person with cancer and promising to support and love them — has become nothing but a symbol of pain and remorse. I envisioned a life where my partner and I would fight against the terror of cancer; instead she hopped to the other side, choosing her ongoing health issues as the ally and myself as the enemy.
It took me 4 years to realize it. And as she drags me through court to leverage every dollar out of me I can, my only regret is that I didn’t leave my abuser to her own devices sooner; self-pity, hatefulness, and a sheer disregard toward taking responsibility for anything.
I am grateful but drowning. As we are negotiating settlement, the end is near, and my abuser will soon be unable to execute any influence in my life.

2024.05.19 00:13 Living-Apartment4847 Tell me what you think

Rhys fought the urge to cry as the slap resounded loudly. He took a deep breath trying not to cry, he wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing him cry. He looked up to see the director staring down at him pure hatred in his eyes.
Rhys closed his eyes, his mask slipping seamlessly back on. “I’m sorry, Sir,” His voice was cold, unfeeling which only made the director madder. He grabbed a fistful of his hair pulling him up to his feet. To his terror, a whimper escaped him.
“Sorry? If you’re going to be sorry, at least admit it you brat!” The director slapped him, fingers still tangled in the boy’s hair. Lucien began to cry; he tried forcing himself to stop but the tears just wouldn’t stop. He was screaming at himself inside his mind, but nothing was working. “How dare you steal from me!”
He wanted to scream that he didn’t do it! That it wasn’t him! But he knew things would only get worse if he did. So, through his tears he whispered: “I’m sorry.” His cold tone had melted and the only that was left was pure anger. He didn’t mean to say it like that, but he did.
The director let go of his hair and he slumped to his knees. He looked at the rest of the kids who were huddled together in a corner of the room. The one who did this were right behind the director smiling like the witch she was. The director turned to the witch in question.
“Leila, thank you for telling me about this shameful behaviour.” He looked at her with love, pure, undying love and that made his blood boil. What made her so different from the rest of them? Why was she the one who got to be loved while the rest of them were mistreated and abused? It wasn’t fair!
Rhys stood up, wiping his tears from his face. The director turned to him; his gaze completely hardened. “Don’t think I’ll let you get away with this so easily, brat.” Rhys didn’t care anymore, he just wanted to get it over with. “Tomorow, after sun-up, you will receive fifteen slashes as punishment for your thievery. After that, you will be cleaning this entire orphanage for a month.”
Rhys felt his heart stop. He didn’t care about the cleaning, what he did care about was the beating. There had only been a handful of people to get the beating at the orphanage and every one of them had died hours later. He didn’t want to die. He couldn’t die.
The director didn’t wait for a response and left leaving a smirking Leila. “What a shame, Rhys. It seems like you’re going to die tomorrow.” She looked behind her at the quivering children. “I wonder what would happen to them?” She chuckled and walked back to her room.
When she closed the door, all the kids ran to him. “We’re so sorry!” Kieran said. Kieran was the youngest in the orphanage, he was only six years old. Rhys began to cry as he hugged all of them.
“I’m so sorry!” The kids looked at each other confused. What did he have to be sorry for? They were the ones who broke into the director’s office and got him into trouble...
They pulled away. “What are you sorry for, Rhys?” Asked Emma, she was the second oldest and was ten years old. “We’re the ones who got you in to trouble and now... now you’re going to be beaten. And it’s all our fault!” She started crying.
Kyra, one the older kids, who had been standing in a corner watching all of this happened finally spoke. “Rhys, you should go. Run away.” Rhys looked at them confused.
“What? I can’t do that...” He sniffled, looking at the crying kids beside him. “Who will take care of them now? I can’t just leave them.”
“What about you, huh?” Reynold screamed. “Rhys, we have been here longer than you have and we have watched as you took care of everyone but never yourself. You’re going to die and all you can think about is them?!” He marched over to Rhys. “For once in your life-”
Kyra stopped him. “Enough, Ray. It’s also our fault. We never tried to think about them, all we did was bade our time until we could escape. We never thought about them, but Rhys did and now... he’s going to pay for our mistakes.” She turned to the remaining three who hadn’t said anything. “We’re almost adults, are we going to continue acting like petulant children?”
“But...what about the plan?” Sierra whispered.
Reynolds exploded. “A child is literally about do die!”
“I’m not a child, I’m thirteen.” Reynolds glared at him and he shut up.
Everything fell silent except for the sniffling of the children. They all looked at each other, unsure what to do or how to move forward before Finlay spoke, he was the oldest about to turn 18 in two months.
“I agree with Kyra and Reynolds.” He gave Rhys a pitying glance. “We let the kid take care of everyone and everything we never cared about them or how they were doing.” He sighed. “Although, I’m not happy about us abandoning the plan, I know I’ll be even more unhappy if that kid died because of me.”
“So, we’re doing it?” Reynolds asked.
Finlay nodded. “Yes, we’re doing it.” Reynold and Kyra smiled while Rhys seemed distraught.
He looked at the kids. “Hey, you guys go to your room for a bit and I’ll bring you a plate of cookies, okay?” They didn’t want to go but the allure of those sweet, mouth-watering delicacies made them scurry into their shared room. He turned back to the older kids. “What if I don’t want to do it? I’m stronger than the others, I can survive.”
Reynolds opened his mouth about to scream bloody murder, but Kyra spoke instead. “Think about the kids-” Rhys raised an eyebrow, all he ever did was think about the kids. “Do you really think they would be happy seeing you die because of them? Or would they be happy knowing you were out there somewhere safe and happy?”
Rhys thought back to when he was seven, Emma, Angela and Jason were already at the orphanage, Emma was four, Angela was three and Jason was two. It had been a few days since Kieran had been left at the steps of the orphanage and his cries echoed through its halls. The director had no idea how to take care of a baby and he didn’t want to waste money by hiring a maid so, he made a heartless choice. He was going to toss the infant into a nearby stream.
Rhys had no idea about this, but he had decided to follow the director when he left with the screeching infant. When he saw the director about to toss the child into the water he ran forward. The director had turned and out of shock he had dropped the baby. Without hesitating Rhys had jumped in and saved Kieran. Thankfully, Kieran wasn’t harmed. While clutching a coughing Kieran in his arms he begged the director to let him take care of Kieran. The director had accepted but warned Rhys that if he didn’t take adequate care of the boy he would abandon him.
While walking home it dawned on Rhys, if the man could so such cruel things to an infant what would he do to all the others?
“But...” Rhys felt tears pooling in his eyes. “I can’t leave them. They’re everything I have.” Kyra walked up to Reynolds and enveloped him in a hug. Rhys hugged her back and began to sob.
“No, they’re not. You’re only a child, Rhys. You will live a long, happy life if you leave and you will never look back.”

Leila heard everything; they were lucky that the director had opted to get his room sound proofed. She wasn’t going to tell the director, after all, this was all the only way to get Rhys out of this place. She knew Rhys, probably better than he knew himself. They had arrived here on the same day and they grew inseparable until she realized Rhys was a self-sacrificial bastard that would never reach his full potential until she forced him to. So, she began plotting, she would his and everyone else’s hand until he had n choice but to leave. She became the villain, to make sure he wouldn’t.
“You dummy.” She muttered, as the tears began to fall. “I’m such a superb actor aren’t I...?”
She buried her face in her hands and began to cry. She had done everything for him and he hated her. She was never going to be able to see him happy and grow old with a loving wife and tons and tons of children. She looked up at the sky and she began to pray, that never used to happen before. She looked out the window and said: “It’s quiet uptown.”

2024.05.19 00:11 Dear-Cockroach-6979 Wouldn’t mind some advice…

(Sorry, it’s kinda long)
Hey everyone,
A bit about me: I grew up in a toxic household with an alcoholic abusive single mother. She had anywhere from 15-20 stray cats in our home that she spoiled and loved more than me. She sure made that clear! My father left me and my mother when I was two years old and he never came back. I was put into the California foster care system at age 13 due to my mother being reported multiple times by my junior high school counselor. From there I went to several mental hospitals, lockdown facilities and group homes up to my 18th birthday. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder back in my adolescent years. I haven’t been evaluated as an adult but I’m sure I would be diagnosed with MDD if I were.
I have spent almost my entire adult life doing nothing with myself. I spent a lot of time early on sleeping in my car and showering at my friends houses. My grandma in Arizona helped me out a great deal and let me stay with her and find work, and I was proud of myself although I was working a menial janitorial job at a casino. I’m pretty tech savvy and skilled with automotive repair but I never pursued further education. When my grandma passed away in 2007 I got severely depressed but I managed to get a place to live with roommates and held down a full time job, again at a casino doing janitorial work. Developed a gambling addiction and an alcohol addiction. Got a DUI in 2008 and that started my legal troubles. Lost my place and lost my job.
I slept in my car and worked at casinos doing menial work again. Met a woman at one of the jobs and got married April 2010. She had a few kids with a bunch of baby daddy drama, and I couldn’t deal with it so I just walked away and the divorce was finalized by the end of the year. I stopped drinking after that. From there I kept working until 2011, when I decided to quit my job, take my old Subaru XT and hit the road. Went all over the southwest US sleeping in the car and exploring, got a few tickets for no insurance, got my license suspended for said tickets and also for not paying my payments on the DUI. I got to Albuquerque NM and my car finally croaked on me. Transmission failure. Slept in it for a week or so in a mini-mall parking lot until the cops were called on me and unsurprisingly took my car. I was officially a street person at age 26.
I spent several years hitchhiking, panhandling, dumpster diving, hopping freight trains and finding spots to sleep or camp wherever I could. I was so depressed that I didn’t take very good care of myself and had no desire whatsoever to try to better myself and dig out of the hole I got myself into. I used to call myself an urban survivalist. I remained in this state of mind until late 2022 when dental problems nearly killed me. I finally found a place to stay in Nevada with a lady I called a foster mother but I had a very hard time getting used to being housed. I got all my teeth yanked and a set of dentures thanks to Nevada Medicaid. I got a job at a car wash for six months but gave up the job due to stress at home and workplace nepotism. I even got a few credit cards and got my score up to 719! Anyhow, foster mother was an alcoholic, she started to remind me of my biological mother and I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had a few thousand dollars saved up and moved back to Arizona a couple of months ago.
I am currently at a weekly motel and have been attempting to find any work I can. Managed to get interviews for dishwasher jobs, housekeeping jobs, janitorial jobs and night crew at a grocery store. Haven’t heard back from any of them though. I have half of my savings left and it seems inevitable that I’ll run out of money pretty soon.
I have a good feeling that the ridiculously long gap of employment looks terrible on my resume and that may be a reason I’m not getting anything. I mean, what do I tell the interviewer, that I was a damn bum?
I like to think I’m pretty smart. I was disassembling and reassembling IBM PC’s before I hit puberty. I was the computer technician for my high school back in the Windows XP era. Once I started driving I began teaching myself automotive repair with Chilton and Haynes manuals along with plenty of trial and error. It blew people’s minds when I, a dirty bum, helped get their car back on the road if I noticed they needed assistance. I helped a man I met at a park and did an engine swap on his Nissan Xterra over a couple weekends in exchange for new camping gear.
I can’t get work as a mechanic or do any driving related jobs unless I get my license back and it would take a LOT of money to get it back. On top of that I have to have an ignition interlock in any vehicle I drive. I wouldn’t mind getting into computer repair but I don’t have the certification to do so, and I’ve been out of the loop for a long time. I have a MacBook Air M1 and wish I could learn a way to make money with it like some sort of remote job but that seems impossible to me at this point.
For the record, I still don’t drink and I’ve never done a hard drug in my life. I haven’t smoked weed in months so I am able to pass a drug test if I were hired somewhere. Also, I have no felonies whatsoever on my record. Some people like to be stereotypical so I figured I’d throw that out there.
I guess what I’m asking is what should I do at this point? What path would you take if you were in my shoes? I won’t lie, suicide has been on my mind a lot lately. I don’t have many friends and I don’t have any family to talk to. I don’t like being a burden on anyone. Should I just accept that I’m gonna probably be homeless again, possibly for the rest of my life? Is there anywhere in the US that I could possibly get back on my feet with some sort of labor work and a place to sleep? I’d move anywhere if I knew I had a shot. Am I a lost cause at age 38? I’d love to hear some ideas!

2024.05.19 00:11 Clavius111 Can't display "$" character

I'm using lambda to display simple text on a Lilygo T-display. The text includes a dollar sign $.
 it.printf(10, 120, id(roboto20), Color(255, 120, 0), TextAlign::LEFT, "Cost: $ %.2f", id(gs_this_months_energy_charge).state);
I'm trying to display a dollar sign just before the numeric value: "Cost: $ %.2f"
But, when I upload the code to the ESP32, the display shows a vertical bar instead of a $ and the ESPHome console shows this warning:
[W][font:112]: Encountered character without representation in font: '$'
I'm using the Roboto font with is cached from Google:
 - file: "gfonts://Roboto" id: roboto20 size: 20
Any idea why the $ sign is not found?

Wonderful inventions abound in the world that were once only the product of geniuses' epiphanies. Most of us cannot image a world without the inventions and conveniences that we have grown to depend on and take for granted. The world does, of course, always change, in part because bright brains never stop coming up with amazing ideas for inventions that can improve people's lives.
It can be overwhelming to a new inventor with a fantastic idea to know where to begin or what to do. Sometimes as a result, people give up on their aspirations of invention and put the concept out of their heads. Had this occurred with any of the numerous inventions on which we now so rely, just think! Instead of giving up on an idea, new inventors can consult industry professionals like InventHelp.
Naturally, you want to be sure you make the best decision when you are thinking about hiring a new inventions company to help you advance with your idea as a new inventor. This implies that you must do your homework and learn as much as possible about any service—InventHelp included—that you are thinking about using. Fortunately, you may make your decision more easily because InventHelp has been in the business for many years and there is a wealth of information available online.
When you get into the field of new inventions, you will need assistance with everything from marketing to patent protection to prototype development and more. From the beginning to the conclusion of your first invention journey, a full-service provider such as InventHelp will be able to support you.
We've written a guide with additional details about InventHelp and what it offers new inventors to help you make the best choice. You can also read Q&As from other new inventors trying to learn more about the company and some of the most often asked questions by those who do online research on the company.
Questions from New Inventors About InventHelp

Many new inventors understandably have a lot of questions when they consider working with a company like InventHelp to move forward with their invention idea. Naturally, they want to ensure that they choose the best new invention service provider for them, which means learning about some key factors that can help them make the right decision. So, let's look at some of the questions that new inventors ask about InventHelp, because they can help you learn a lot about the provider and its new invention services.

How Long Has InventHelp Been Around?
Most new inventors want to know how long InventHelp has been in this industry. This shows how reliable, experienced, and well-known the company is. You should find a new invention service provider that has a good reputation and a lot of experience in the field. To do this, you should find out how long they have been in business.
The good news is that InventHelp has been around for a long time. It began in the mid-1980s. From then on, the business has helped many new inventors in many different niches and fields, and it has built a strong reputation along the way. It is easy to see why a lot of new inventors choose to use this service to help them with their first invention. They have been in business for more than forty years.
Also, it's important to note that InventHelp has 65 offices in the US and Canada, making it a very strong presence there. The company hires teams of professionals with years of experience and knowledge in the field. The company is also divided into different departments that handle different parts of the new invention process. This includes professionals in legal matters, marketing, design, and a lot of other fields.
So, if you want to hire a new invention company with a long history, you can rest easy knowing that InventHelp has been around for decades.
Can InventHelp Assist with Patenting My Idea?
A lot of new inventors don't know much about patenting, but they do know that it's an important part of the invention world. There are a lot of people who want to know if InventHelp can help them get patent protection because of this. They can do this without any problems.
When you work with InventHelp, the team can put you in touch with lawyers who specialize in patent law. This way, you can get patent searches and applications done right away. Then, with the help of lawyers, you can get your patent protection set up. This will give you more peace of mind and protection.
Getting a patent for a new invention can be hard and take a long time because there are so many steps involved. Patent searches are needed to make sure that your invention won't violate any patents that are already out there. In addition, the patent application process has to be completed. This can be difficult and stressful for people who don't know much about patent law.
There could be serious problems for you in the future if you don't have patent protection in place or if searches aren't done. If you don't do the right research, your invention might violate an existing patent, which could get you in trouble with the law. Someone could steal your idea or design if you don't have a patent to protect it. They could then claim it as their own, which is called intellectual property theft. Also, someone else could have the exact same thought and patent it before you do.

What Are the Benefits of Using InventHelp?
When looking into this invention company, many new inventors wonder how InventHelp can assist them and what advantages they will reap from working with the firm. Obviously, you should inquire about this and conduct research to make sure the provider is a good fit for you. You should know that InventHelp offers assistance in a wide variety of ways since they are a full-service new invention provider.
The many steps involved in bringing a new invention to fruition can be overwhelming and difficult for a first-time inventor. In order to help you with this, the experts at InventHelp are available to you at all times. As a new inventor, you can expect a great deal of assistance from the provider, and there are numerous advantages to working with them. Now we can examine a few of the main advantages:
· You get support and guidance from the start to the end of your first invention journey from industry experts
· They can assist with important tasks such as patent protection and searches, creating prototypes, and more
· You can benefit from access to a database of thousands of companies that are willing to review your invention idea
· There is access to a wide range of tools and resources to help you to learn as you go
· The team can help with marketing your invention to help generate interest
· You can get assistance with creating great pitches to impress potential investors and businesses
· There is tailored support to meet your individual needs

This is just a sample of the wide range of services and assistance that InventHelp can provide to new inventors. As a result, it has become a very popular choice among new inventors in all sorts of industries.

Can InventHelp Assist with Prototype Creation?
They think that just telling people about their new invention idea is enough, and some new inventors don't realize how important a prototype is. To attract attention and, maybe, investment, you need to be creative. If you have a prototype, you can use it here.
Sharing the visual, functional, and operational aspects of your invention can be challenging without a prototype. Prototyping allows you to accomplish this in a way that is impossible without one. Selecting the most appropriate prototype from the many available choices is crucial.
If you need help with this, InventHelp has a team of design experts that can help. Their assistance in developing a faultless prototype can greatly increase your chances of attracting the attention of potential investors.
Will InventHelp Review My Idea?
One thing that a lot of new inventors want to know about InventHelp is if the people who work there will give them feedback on their invention idea. They will not do this, which is a shame, because it would not be right for them to. In fact, it's important to remember that no new invention company should give their opinion, and if they do, that should be a red flag. You can't ask the team what they think about your invention idea, so don't expect them to give you feedback.
You can, of course, do other things if you want to find out what other people think about your invention idea. These days, a lot of people do things like this on social media. If you have a lot of friends, you can share the idea to see what they think. You should be very careful, though, because you don't want your idea to get stolen by someone else before you get a patent for it.
One of the safest things you can do is to ask your close friends and family what they think about your invention idea. Not all of them will tell you what you want to hear, but some will probably tell you the truth. This means that you can get an honest opinion from some of them.
What Can InventHelp Do for Me?
New inventors sometimes don't know what a new invention services provider does or how they can help someone who is new to the world of invention. Well, as we've already talked about, they can help you in a lot of different ways. This is especially helpful for people who don't know much about invention or have little experience with it.
If you've never been involved with inventions before, you should know that the whole process can be very complicated and hard to figure out. This can make it very stressful and scary for new inventors. Some people find it so scary that they give up on their idea or invention dreams rather than continuing to try and get past the problems they face.
If you have professionals there to help you, the process is much easier and less likely to be scary and stressful for you. You can have a better first journey as an inventor with the help of InventHelp. They can make sure you enjoy and learn from your first experience. This can boost your confidence and fire you up to move forward with your dream of making a new invention.
Will InventHelp Assist with Marketing?
Marketing is an important aspect of new inventions, but many first-time inventors are unfamiliar with it. Many newbies wonder if the InventHelp team can help, and with a team of marketing experts on hand, the answer is yes.
When it comes to marketing your new invention idea, it is critical that you employ the appropriate marketing techniques and strategies, as these can make a significant difference in generating more interest and raising awareness of your invention. Having professionals on hand to assist you with this aspect of things can be extremely beneficial.
In addition to assisting with marketing campaigns, the InventHelp team can help you develop a strong pitch for your new invention. When it comes to impressing businesses and potential investors, having a great pitch is essential, but most new inventors are lost. With the experts on hand to help, you'll have one less thing to worry about.
Will I Succeed with InventHelp?
Some new inventors think that if they go to a new invention company, they will be sure to be successful. There is no way to know for sure that you will succeed, so this is not true. That's why you should be very wary of companies that say their new invention will be a success. Not even the most experienced inventors can be sure if their latest idea will work or not.
When you first start out as an inventor, your dedication and hard work will definitely lead you in the right direction. You can get through your whole journey with the help of the right people and information. But none of this means you will be successful, so you should never go into this business thinking you will do well no matter what.
People Also Ask: More Questions and Answers About InventHelp

When you run a search in InventHelp, you will also find a wide range of other questions that people ask, and it is well worth reading through these if you want to learn more about the provider and what it has to offer. This is a great way of getting some of your own questions answered, and viewing some other questions that you might not have thought about. Some of the top questions that people also ask are:

How Much Does InventHelp Cost?
New inventors want to get rich fast, but they have to live on a tight budget like everyone else until their invention becomes a hit. Most people have a set amount of money they want to spend on their new invention idea. So, they want to know if InventHelp charges for its services and, if so, how much it will cost.
Not only that, but keep in mind that InventHelp is a business and needs to make money just like any other business. Because of this, services can't be given away for free, and there is a cost to become a client. Getting the service can cost different amounts, so you need to talk to them about your project first to find out how much it will cost.
That being said, the business is very clear about its prices and fees, so you can find out exactly how much you'll be charged before you sign anything or commit to anything. Because of this, you won't have to worry about any hidden fees, and you'll know right away how much the service will cost. Then, among other things, the costs will help you decide if you want to sign up or not.
And, of course, you should think about how much help and services you will get from InventHelp as part of the fee they charge. It can be hard for new inventors to figure out how to go about the processes involved with new inventions, as we've already said. Getting the right support and help can make a huge difference.
Is InventHelp a Legitimate Company?
The legitimacy of InventHelp is another question that people frequently pose online. Naturally, when a person uses a company for the first time, especially for something as crucial as supporting their new invention, they are always concerned. Many people who are unaware of InventHelp are therefore interested in learning if it is reliable.
Given its existence since the middle of the 1980s, the company has a proven track record. Many inexperienced inventors have already benefited from it in the past with inventions in a variety of fields. Furthermore, the internet offers a wealth of information about the provider, including testimonials and reviews, which helps you to find out more about its standing.
Just like with any other business you are using for the first time, before you join up with a new invention services company, including InventHelp, do as much research as you can. This allows you to gauge their offerings more fully and decide if it is the best option for you.
InventHelp is, however, a respectable business with a solid presence in 65 cities in the US and Canada and forty years of experience in the field.
How Can InventHelp Assist with Patenting?
New Inventors often ask online if InventHelp can help new inventors with the patenting process. Some new inventors are also interested in this. As we already talked about, patenting is a very important part of the process. Its job is to keep you and your invention safe. The good news is that InventHelp has a team of lawyers and can put you in touch with one of their patent law experts to make sure that the searches are done and that the patent protection is filed quickly and correctly.
This can help you get your patent faster and give you peace of mind that everything has been done correctly. When you go through legal processes like patent protection, you need to make sure that everything is done correctly. The lawyers at InventHelp can help you with this.
Can InventHelp Offer Funding?
Not many new inventors think about how to pay for their invention at first, but later on, they do. This is why a lot of people have asked if InventHelp can give money to new inventors. InventHelp does not directly offer funding, but they can still help in other ways.
The team can, for example, put you in touch with possible investors who might be willing to give you money if your new invention idea really impresses them. In addition, they can help you make a great pitch that will impress investors, which will increase your chances of getting new ones on board.

Does InventHelp Offer Confidentiality?
Rightly so, most new inventors are fiercely guarding their new invention concept! They therefore want to make sure that the specifics of their invention are safe and secure, and many of them wonder if InventHelp provides a private service.
You may relax though, because the InventHelp staff is highly concerned with information security and secrecy. Keeping this in mind, they have put in place a number of procedures to guarantee the security and safety of your data. This covers the companies on their database as well as all others who will be working on your project signing confidentiality agreements.
During their online research on InventHelp and its services, many people have the following important questions.

2024.05.19 00:10 s0me__dude Restrictions instead of Causality

Hi. Im not a physicist and want to validate my thoughts but i didn't find any specific information on the topic. I used chagpt to explain it because it writes better than me. Are there any counter arguments to this?

Resolving the Causality Paradox through Inversion of Causality Logic.

Introduction

The causality paradox, a problem in the philosophy of time and physics, arises from the concept of infinite causality: the idea that every event is caused by a preceding event, leading to an infinite regress. Traditional causality states that an event happens because of a cause. However, an alternative approach suggests that events occur not due to specific causes but because there is nothing to prevent them. This inversion of causality logic could offer a new perspective on the nature of events, restrictions, and the direction of time.

Conceptual Framework

Inversion of Causality Logic

The proposed inversion of causality logic can be summarized as follows:
  1. Events Happen Due to Lack of Prevention: Instead of every event having a specific cause, events occur because there is no restriction preventing them.
  2. Predicting Events through Restrictions: Future events can still be predicted based on the current state and existing restrictions, similar to how causality is used in traditional logic.
  3. Evolving Restrictions: The system evolves from a state of minimal restrictions to more restrictive states over time.

Explanation and Implications

Initial State: No Restrictions

In the beginning, the system is in a state where no restrictions exist. All possible events could occur since there is nothing to prevent any particular event. This represents a state of maximum potentiality and minimal determinism.

Evolution of the System

As time progresses, restrictions emerge, limiting the range of possible events. These restrictions can be thought of as natural laws or rules that develop and become more defined. The system moves from a state of high freedom (low restriction) to one of greater order (high restriction).

Explaining Quantum Effects

Quantum mechanics demonstrates that particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously until observed. This can be understood through the proposed framework:

Direction of Time

This model also provides a compelling explanation for the unidirectional flow of time:

Comparison with Traditional Causality

Causality as a Restriction

Traditional causality can be reinterpreted within this framework:

Addressing Infinite Causality

The problem of infinite causality is mitigated because:

Conclusion

The inversion of causality logic offers a novel approach to resolving the causality paradox. By positing that events happen due to the absence of prevention rather than specific causes, we can understand the evolution of the system from a state of no restrictions to one of increasing restrictions. This model not only aligns with observed quantum effects but also provides a coherent explanation for the forward direction of time. Through this lens, traditional causality becomes a subset of broader restrictive principles that govern the unfolding of events in the universe.

2024.05.19 00:10 TheIndulgery Using ChatGPT as a novel writing aid

Using ChatGPT as a novel writing aid
I'm currently writing a fantasy / litPRG novel and have been using ChatGPT in creative ways to help with it. I had some requests on how so instead of replying to everyone individually I figured I'd make a post! I will include screenshots so expect this post to be long! Also, it's from my actual book so please don't steal my shit. lol
I'll break it up into 5 sections:
  1. Standard editing help
  2. Character and creature sheets
  3. The cool stuff
  4. A ChatGPT summary of the types of prompts I've used so far
  5. A recommendation by ChatGPT on how authors can get the most use out of it
A few notes to start:
  • I'm currently using the paid version of 4o. I paid for 4 because I use it a TON for work and the ability to upload screenshots is a huge help. Turns out it's great for doing screenshots of formatting, character sheets, etc for writing too. I originally started with 3.5 and just kept migrating the story to newer versions as they came out. Other than query limits I haven't noticed any difference in quality.
  • I do NOT have it write any parts of the story for me. As an experiment I had it try to write a fight scene and kept adjusting the prompts but it just always came out shit. It's really not good at writing wholesale.
  • After every chapter I copy and paste it into the same conversation so that it keeps a running log of the story.
  • It's terrible at emotional interactions and dialogue. It tries to make everything hopeful and goes with the most generic, Hallmark Card type of interaction
  • It's also bad at giving suggestions or ideas for long scenes. It wants to resolve everything in a few paragraphs so it'll go from 2 people fighting to reaching a deeper understanding and being fully great with each other in like 2 paragraphs
Keep in mind that although it's great as a reviewer, editor, and something to bounce ideas off of, it can only provide suggestions. The hard work of writing has to be done by you. I spend about 2 hours a night and at least 4 hours a day on weekends writing and maybe 10 minutes a day in ChatGPT. Much like spell or grammar checkers, it's a useful tool but no substitute for doing the work
Editing and grammar:
This is pretty straightforward. I'll copy and paste sections and ask it to fix the grammar, bolding any changes it makes and striking out any words it removes so I can review the changes. The only issue I've had with this is that if I try to post an entire chapter it'll sometimes pause in its review and ask if I want to continue. Sometimes when it does that it loses sentences or even a paragraph where it broke. Now I just do smaller chunks. It'll explain why it made the changes too, so it's improving my grammar as I go.
Character and creature help:
This is also pretty straightforward. I already have my main characters written up and I know which ones are coming later, but sometimes I want mooks or neighbors, and other times I need creatures. I'll ask it for more than I need and pick the best ones. Some of the prompts:
"Create 5 creatures that you'd find in Wisconsin. There should be a day version and a night version, the night version being tougher and having more attacks. For each come up with 3 offensive and 3 defensive powers. Also describe them in the format of a character description in a D&D style monster manual."

"Based off the fight scene I just described and the attached screenshot of the person's character sheet, come up with 5 attacks, skills, or magical abilities that person could develop. They should reflect that person's personality, character sheet, and fighting style."

The cool stuff: This is where it really shines and has helped me avoid a lot of pitfalls that I notice when I'm reading other authors' books:
"Review the story and look for any words that I reuse a lot. Ignore standard ones like 'and, they, him, etc'"
All authors have their favorite words that get repeated way too often. I'll find them and suggest alternate descriptions. It goes beyond just providing new words.
"I want to avoid repetitive descriptions. Please review the story and identify any times I've repeated descriptions, turns of phrase, etc. Categorize them into "fight scenes", "Emotional scenes", and "area/scene descriptions"
This has been a power prompt for me. We tend to describe things a certain way and it identifies areas where changes can be made to make it more dynamic and varied.

"Please review the story for any inconsistencies. I'm specifically looking for ways I've described the system or world as working that I later contradict."
I've had mixed results with this one but overall it works really well.
It's also useful for all those items that you forget, especially if they enhance someone and they're supposed to be using a skill or ability from it:
https://preview.redd.it/wz4gn43v891d1.png?width=662&format=png&auto=webp&s=b278e32bd76464dfa09395115d8bb401a759d789
I also use it to bounce ideas off of. Sometimes the ideas are generic but often it comes up with ideas that I hadn't thought of. I don't like it decide the plot or directions, but it's like chatting with an editor or reviewer and the two of you bouncing ideas off each other. I'll reply to its posts with things like "I like number 3 but it's coming too early. What if we had them go to place X instead of that, saving that for later?" Character [xx] is going to have these skills and plot points in the future. Knowing that, please tailor all skill and plot suggestions with the idea of driving towards that narrative in a balanced, natural manner. None of the ideas should feel forced and they should all happen naturally as the story progresses. As I paste new chapters please incorporate the changes into that long term progression and adapt as required.
"I think I want character B to starting feeling like they're not contributing but I'm having trouble thinking of ways to express that naturally. I don't want it to feel forced. What are some situations they could end up in that'd highlight that? Who could they fight with?"
"I feel like character A is getting too complacent and it outpacing the other people, but they've become the lynchpin of the fights. I plan on introducing XX situation and it'll make them weak in XX area. I'm going to post a few paragraphs with that, tell me if it rings true with the character growth I've been using for the rest of the story."
"I'm going to paste the first half of a fight that the characters are in but I'm realizing I don't have any ideas for how they'll win. What are some ideas based off the creature's character sheet you posted earlier?"
And I asked ChatGPT to make a summarized list of the types of requests I've asked of it. Here's what it came up with:

2024.05.19 00:09 FunNuggets Radeon 6750 xt performance problems

So I recently upgraded from an asus rtx 2060 12gb to a power color 6750 xt and the performance difference is worse than before. . I've got an amd ryzen 5 5600x 32gb of ram at 3200 mhz An asus tuf b40m plus gaming matx motherboard. It's mainly doom eternal with ray tracing at 2560x1440, at some intense scenes it'll drop below 60 fps and start chugging. I have not had this problem with my nvidia card. I've done a clean install of windows, resizeable bar is enabled and so is smart access memory. Everything I hear about this card is that it's supposed to be a great 1440p card. I've got the latest amd drivers installed. Any ideas?

2024.05.19 00:08 aardbarker History question about 1949 refugee plans

I’m reading “The War of Return” by Adi Schwartz & Einat Wilf, and I came across a bit of history I didn’t know about: Israel’s two offerings in 1949 to accept some of the Palestinian refugees (in one case, the entire Gaza Strip). Below is an excerpt from the book. Why isn’t this bit of history talked about more?
“…Israel articulated two important plans in the summer of 1949 [OP: to ease tensions around the refugee problem]. The first was named the Gaza Plan, and it proposed transferring the Gaza Strip, in Egyptian hands at the end of the war, to Israeli sovereignty. Israel informed the United Nations that it was willing to grant Israeli citizenship to all the Arabs in the Gaza Strip, both original residents and displaced persons, and committed to take care of their resettlement and rehabilitation. Israel estimated that there were 180,000 Arabs in the Gaza Strip; the true number was closer to 300,000.
“Ben-Gurion wrote in his diary that the plan would grant Israel strategic assets, chiefly the removal of the Egyptian army from the Gaza Strip and the addition of relatively fertile land. It would also enable Israel to argue that it had thereby done its part toward solving the refugee problem. Israel estimated that if it absorbed and naturalized refugees in the Gaza Strip, the size of the country’s Arab minority would be more or less equivalent to the one it would have had under the 1947 partition plan. In exchange, Israel demanded comprehensive international aid to cover the inevitable costs involved.
“The US administration supported the plan but wanted Israel to compensate Egypt for the territory. Ben-Gurion consented to that as well and offered to transfer to Egypt a part of the northwest Negev along the border. But Cairo objected, claiming that the plan would only serve Israel’s interests, expanding its territorial foothold without solving the refugee problem in its totality. “Not only would Egypt not give up the Gaza district,” said the head of the Egyptian delegation at the Lausanne peace conference, “but [it] would firmly demand the southern Negev.” Political leaders in Cairo denounced the plan as “a forerunner of Israeli aggression against Gaza,” informed Washington of their formal rejection, and repeated their insistence that the refugees had a right to return to their homes.
“A short while thereafter, Israel articulated another idea: the 100,000 Proposal, offering to absorb 100,000 Arab refugees into Israel in the context of a peace treaty. The Israeli ambassador in Washington, Eliahu Elath, stated explicitly that the Israeli government intended thereby “to demonstrate [its] cooperation with the US” and that the purpose was for Israel to do its part in solving the refugee problem. President Truman sounded satisfied with the plan, and one of his advisors noted that the president was “extremely pleased … [and] thinks [the] 100,000 offer may break [the] deadlock.” But the Arabs rejected this proposal, too. An Arab diplomat in Lausanne called it “a mere propaganda scheme.” The Arabs claimed that the plan was “less than a token” and that the Jews could not oppose the return of a large number of Arab refugees on economic grounds while encouraging the mass immigration of Jews.
“Both of Israel’s plans showed its willingness to contribute its share as part of a comprehensive agreement where all sides to the war would contribute theirs. For the Arabs, the humanitarian suffering of the refugees did not play a significant role, useful mostly as a political weapon against Israel. American diplomats at the Lausanne Conference received the impression that the Egyptians demonstrated “complete indifference [to the] fate [of the] Gaza refugees.” A senior representative of UNRWA stated in this context that “Arab leaders don’t give a damn whether the [Palestinian] refugees live or die.”
“Now and then, the Arab diplomats openly admitted to the Israelis that they had only placed the refugee question at the top of their agenda as a ruse. An Egyptian official told his Israeli counterpart that in the previous year, thousands of his countrymen had been killed in a cholera epidemic, and the government in Cairo had not batted an eyelid. “Why should we care for the refugees now?” the man wondered. By rejecting both Israeli plans, the Arabs were sending a message that the issue of the refugees was examined only in the context of its service to the political cause of undermining Israel.
“Summer 1949 marked the end of attempts by the Arabs and the international community to impose a mass return on Israel without a peace treaty. The United States and Britain understood that this would not happen, and after the Arabs rejected Israel’s proposals for a partial return, Washington and London began considering other solutions, first and foremost the economic rehabilitation of the refugees in Arab countries.”

2024.05.19 00:08 Dominik1712 Tv overscan issues/need advice please

Hello there.
Like the title says I'm having trouble with the screen display. I tried anything and everything and nothing works.
The issue is that a small portion of the screen is cut off.
This creates 2 issues on the right side on the resource list icons are not visible so I can see how much of a resource I have but not which one is it. This is easily solved by simply mentally tracking how much I have or each resource.
The second and main problem is the bottom of the screen. Since it is cut off just below hp(huge bullet dodged there) I can't see the call bar at all meaning there is no way for me to determin how full it is.
I've tried working around this by simply not picking calls unless absolutely necessary or by approximating how much of it I have filled based on room clears and damage taken.
My question is since I'm seemingly out of options do you guys have any ideas?
Other than messing with the tv settings in game settings and console settings(I'm on playstation) which all failed, is there anything else that can be done.
If that is not the case is there perhaps another way to determine how much of your bar is filled other that looking at it.
Small sound or visual cues perhaps? I know it's a long shot but there are similar cases to that like in binding of isaac where you can sometimes determine how much hp isaac has when cursed based on his actions when entering a new room.
All in all it's not something that makes the game unplayable but it is very annoying and I could really use some help. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.19 00:07 BagOSharpBones I just played Coming Out On Top and am reminded how nice it is to have a reciprocated crush. Can gaymers share their love stories + meet cutes

Hi gaymers,
As the title states I (23m) just played the aforementioned gay visual novel! I know it’s probably not an accurate portrayal of real life by any means, but I thought it was a cute gay romance game that had a lot of funny and wholesome moments despite being pretty horny. The game has some one-off hookups through apps, but all the main love interests you meet organically.
I’ve had plenty of hookups through apps, but never met somebody (without an app’s assistance / offline) and gone on actual dates with them… I’ve never known what it’s like to do that, the feeling of having a reciprocated crush turning to a relationship isn’t something I’ve experienced yet. The game was great, but it reminded me of uh…. That lonely feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Can some homies share their experiences meeting their boyfriends / husbands / partners in the comments?? Be it meeting through an app, in person, or something else. I just want to feel like there’s romantic hope, beyond banging strangers on grindr (nothing wrong with doing that, i think im just tired of only hookups for 5 years).

2024.05.19 00:04 No-While-7942 AITAH for telling my ex's mother her son is a woman beater

It was the first time he'd been physical in 9 years. He had been verbally abusive since we moved in together for 3 years. He had threatened me verbally with violence a couple of times and once threw a pillow at me.
He pushed my from the bed to the floor and pressed my head into the ground. He then let me up, grabbed my by the collar and pushed me into the wall. He then squared up to me a few times. He then mocked me as I looked for my phone in a panic. Then he shoved all my clothes off a shelf and told me to pack and leave. He convinced me not to leave for a hotel that night. The next morning, I left despite him crying and asking me not to.
In the weeks after I left, I did ask my ex to let me stay in the house to let me find somewhere to live. He refused. I was staying with a relative in their one-bed so it was really uncomfortable for everyone and didn't know how long it would take me to find somewhere. His parents lived very close by and he could have stayed with them. When we'd talked about breaking up before, he always shot down the idea of this.
A few weeks later I was at his house and moving out all my things. My parents were helping me but they hadn't arrived yet. I asked my ex to tell me if anyone would be at the house and he refused to tell me.
I asked him to be out of the house while me and my parents packed up my stuff. They had flown to come help me pack everything and hired a moving van. I didn't want him there because it would be awkward for everyone and honestly, at this point in dealing with the assault and breakdown, I was very angry and didn't want to deal with speaking to him and getting angry towards him.
His mother then arrived. She said 'hi' and went to walk past me out to the garden. As far as I knew, her state of knowledge about the whole thing was either: 1) she knew nothing about the physical incident but knew that I had moved out suddenly. She maybe knew he wouldn't let me stay in the house until I found somewhere. 2) She knew he had been physical with me but was still supporting him. I honestly thought it was the former. Neither her or anyone from his family contacted me after I left.
I said 'woman beater' as my ex walked by me. She stopped and spoke to me through the glass door and said 'what did you say'. Then we both proceeded to talk over each other. I said she'd raised a woman beater. I called him a liar and a monster. I said he was probably going to hit his wife and kids. She said 'he only pushed you off the bed' and 'no one will ever love you'. My ex eventually moved her on.
My parents and I packed everything up. Then we had to wait while me ex transferred me money for all the furniture I'd bought. He'd refused to transfer it until I had collected everything. I overheard my mum having a 'hi how are you' conversation with him. He walked straight past my dad and didn't say anything to him.

2024.05.19 00:04 MrAngryKraken How to deal with Improper Drones, stated in the GAR (Girls-Arent-Real) Handbook, and told in a meeting by a veteran of the brief girlsarentreal-boysarentreal conflict, specifically meant for the uneducated folk who believe or even humor the idea of the Drones rising up.

So I've heard that SOME FOLKS are trying to spread lies about a possible Drone Uprising...........Oh boy, here we go again...............Chapter 19, page 134, section 3, 4th paragraph of the "GAR (Girl'sAren'tReal) Handbook" states as follows;
"In the event of a Drone either gaining sentience or mistakenly being given sentience (at which point the Drone is to be called either a "Improper Drone" or "False Drone"), it is important you follow protocol and do the following;
1: Locate and confirm the Drones ID if safe.
2: Check with your closest superior or network and see if the Drone is indeed a Improper or False Drone and NOT a Drone purposely given sentience (Drones may be given sentience (nicknamed proper drones), whether temporarily or permanently, under EXTREMELY specific circumstances, such as an imminent medical emergency and no-one is around to help, research purposes, military purposes, or if a owner personally requests it. Besides the first point, the process of this takes 2-3 weeks to verify and must be under HEAVY supervision. For more info, see Chapter 23 of the GAR handbook). If the drone is a proper drone, the subject may be dropped.
3: If the Drone is Indeed a Proper Drone, ensure that any relatives are a safe distance away. If possible and safe enough, you may dispose or reprogram the drone yourself and ignore the following.
4: If not possible, call the GAR Improper Hotline (199), report your location, the drones last location, and the type of Drone so that a GAR Disposal and Reprogram Team (GARDRT) can asses and deal with the situation.
5: Keep in a safe place till the GARDRT can successfully deal with the inconvenience. Once done, explain to the GARDRT how this drone became an Improper Drone in the first place. If you do not know, inform the team and they will leave. If you were the cause, please report to the nearest GARDRT recruitment and information center for reprimanding and instructions on how to prevent such an incident."
Your welcome, you uneducated folks really need to re-read the Handbook. They aren't people or living creatures, they are Drones, meant for whatever purpose they were made for. The reason they seem possible is because people give them too much power.
They are not a threat, not a danger, they are an inconvenience at worst, stop believing these lies, we're done here.

2024.05.19 00:03 exboi How could Pokémon improve?

It's no secret that Pokémon has a lost favor with older games for being stagnant, and even degenerating in some areas. XY, SwSh, and especially SV were not received all that well. For me personally, ORAS and Sun and Moon are the only games of the 3D era that caught my attention (never got around to trying Legends: Arceus, so I won't comment on that).
Even though it's likely, I hope Game Freak/TPC/Nintendo don't just continue to let the series stay in this limbo where there's little actual love put into the games since millions of little kids will buy them no matter what stats they're in. I want them to actually improve upon each game, and grow the fanbase by attracting new and old fans alike.
My ideas are:

2024.05.19 00:02 FairyTaleFan12 AITAH for making my (25F) husband (29M) choose between our family or his game and his character he is obcessed with.

I (25F) never thought I'd be posting here, but I'm seriously losing it and need some advice. My husband (29M) has gotten completely obsessed with a video game character, and it’s destroying our marriage and our plans for our future family. We've been married for two years.
He plays a game called League of Legends, and his "main" is this character named Lillia, who's a magical, deer-girl, very cutesy and innocent looking. He's always been a big gamer, which I've been totally cool with. It’s his thing, and I have my own hobbies. No biggie. But over time, our home office turned into a freaking shrine with Lillia posters and custom made figurines. His computer wallpaper is also all about Lillia. It’s like living with a teenager obsessed with their first crush, but this is my adult husband, and his crush is a some deer girl thing.
Recently, we found out I’m pregnant, and we were both thrilled—until he insisted we name our baby girl Lillia. He said it was a beautiful name and meant so much to him. I think the name is fine, but the idea of naming our child after his obsession? No freaking way. I told him I wasn’t very fond of it, but he keeps pushing it. He won’t consider any other names, and it’s causing a massive rift between us. He REALLY wants to name our daughter after his obsession character.
The other night, he put his hand on my belly and said, "Our shy little Lillia is growing in there." It felt sickening how he was talking about our actual baby. I feel like I’m losing my mind over this, and it feels insignificant, but I also feel so anxious about it all, and I don't know how to approach it. My husband wants to name our daughter after the deer girl character he fantasizes about when I'm not around. How do I even address this?
While I was cleaning our home office, I noticed he left his computer open and I couldn't help but go looking through his folders. Well, I found his "art" folders. A lot of it featured NSFW art work of game characters and A LOT of Lillia ones. When I confronted him about he got mad at me for "snooping" in his computer and that it was innapropritate. I told him that he needs to stop playing this game and get rid of all his Lillia things or else I'll tell everyone we know about his deranged sick obcession. I really like him, he is generally such a hardworking sweet hearted man but for some reason he has thise insane thing about this character and I am so lost at what to do.
TL;DR: My husband is obsessed with a video game character he fantasizes about and wants to name our baby girl after her. It’s wrecking our marriage, and he is mad at be because I am forcing him to stop playing his game for our family. It's driving me crazy. What should I do? AITA?
