2024.05.19 07:45 Ok_Earthling My boyfriend of 2 1/2 year and I broke up today! How do I move on?

My (ex) boyfriend (27) and I (25) broke up today, mutually. We were together for 2 1/2 years and love each other very much. We decided in December that we wanted to get married and talked to my parents. Due to different religions and cultures my parents disapproved. We waited to see if we could gain their approval but they didn’t change their mind. We also have different religions and in his religion he can’t get married to a non-believer of his faith. We talked to multiple religious leaders that can do the marriage but they all said they wouldn’t do it.
I thought about ending the relationship for the past two days and finally had an in-person discussion with him today. We talked it through and he said he knew it was coming and just didn’t know how to bring it up himself. We were both trying to ignore the reality of our situation that our cultures and religions wouldn’t allow us to get married. So we kept dating and tried to hope for a change in our favor.
When we ended it, he told me not to cry, and that it will take time but we will both eventually move on and meet other people and forget about each other.
It hurt so much going through this breakup and I was balling my eyes out. I told him I didn’t want to think about being with anyone or even the idea of eventually forgetting about him. When we hugged for the last time, I didn’t want to let go. I know this is going to hurt for a while. However, I don’t want to keep looking at his pictures on Instagram and dwell on what we had.
How do I move on in a healthy way? How do I grow from this?

2024.05.19 07:32 manaaley He (24M) told me he's disappointed of me because i told him i (25F) might have grown feelings for him, I'm obsessed with idea of us

Hi Reddit,
I’m a 25F with high ambitions, pursuing my dream job in upsc civil service. I met a guy (24M) online while preparing for my upsc exams. We used to call once a day ,(5months) and he provided the emotional support I needed. Over time, I started to like him a lot, but our social lives were very different – I’m an introvert, and he’s an extroverted university graduate.
I haven't been to university or had a social group of friends due to preparing for exams. I've never been in a relationship before, and he was my first significant connection. He, on the other hand, has had multiple flings and people from university added on his social media, including those he dated. But have similar culture, interest childhood
During our conversations, he often praised my goals and independence but criticized other women who didn’t pursue higher studies or ambitious careers. He also mentioned an ex he never moved on from and other flings. I started behaving rudely and argued with him, saying he was distracting me. Despite this, we continued talking. I didn’t meet him in person because I thought it was just a situationship, and I knew meeting him would make me fall for him even more.
Recently, he told me he only sees me as a friend and that a relationship is impractical, adding he’s disappointed that a highly ambitious girl like me would want a relationship.
I feel ashamed and guilty for liking him and making him sense it. I want to erase myself from his memory and move on. Any advice on how to handle this situation?
TLDR: caught feelings for a guy online, we live in same city, have same backgrounds, he love my ambitions and emotionally supported me during exam, but now i caught feelings for him and he is disappointed that I'm compromising on my gaols like other people, im obsessing over the idea of love.

2024.05.19 07:26 SusFairy Feeling defeated as a single, 25f putting herself out there (long rant).

Looking for others who can relate and who may have felt this same way at one point. Advice is welcome. ❤️
I’m in my mid-twenties now and have been single for 6 months. My ex was a nice man, but he was not able to meet my needs and often invalidated my feelings. He wasn’t the first man to do this to me. So I started going to therapy regularly, gained some self confidence back, and have been vigorously putting myself out there on dating apps and in real life too. All my closest friends are in happy relationships, and I also want to meet my best friend and share my life with someone special. Currently, I’m seeing someone as a fwb, and he’s great, but he doesn’t check all my boxes for a relationship. So I continue on with my search as a single woman in her 20s. To be very honest, I feel extremely lonely. I believe this is partly due to the culture of dating apps, and perhaps modern dating rituals in general. Right now, I’m on Tinder and Hinge and I’ve been love-bombed on these apps multiple times. We will talk and have great conversations for a week or two, getting on really well, and then radio silence. Sometimes I’ve even gone on dates with these people. Men are also constantly not replying when I message first, which confuses me as I thought this was a positive thing for a woman to do in their eyes… If they do reply, maybe we will have a decent banter and a couple back a forth messages, and then they become so dry! Their replies turn into single words for reasons I struggle to understand. The last thing Ive noticed on the apps is the absolute lack of initiative these men have in making plans to meet in person. It feels like this ball is always left in my court. To some, this isn’t an issue, but I want a man who is ambitious and assertive. It’s as though they tip toe around making a plan, leaving hints but never being straight forward. And this isn’t just men in their 20s I’m meeting on the apps, it’s men in their 30s too. It’s gotten to a point where I am frequently disappointed and exhausted by the culture. Especially as I curate my profile to get more matches, put effort into witty responses and try to message first as much as I can. Sometimes I tell myself that I need to take a break and get off the apps, but then I think that will only put me one-step backwards from where I want to be, which is with my person.
If it were easier to meet someone in-person, then I would not be bothering with online dating. Unfortunately, no one goes up and talks to you at the bar anymore either. Maybe this is just an issue where I live. I’m curious to know if other women find the same thing when they go out in their city.
Anyways! The rant is over now. I hope this helps some other women out there feel seen too. Good luck to all us single ladies, because we need it!

2024.05.19 07:22 Adventurous6962 Venezuelan President Maduro Imposes 9% Tax on Private Companies for Pension Fund 🇻🇪💼

Article: https://www.useyourbrainforex.com/post/maduro-imposes-9-tax-on-private-companies-for-pension-fund
Big developments in Venezuela! President Nicolas Maduro has just issued a new decree that imposes a 9% tax on private companies to establish a state-run pension fund. This significant move is part of the government's effort to create a more sustainable pension system after years of economic instability.

Key Details:

Background:

Earlier this month, the government-controlled National Assembly passed a law allowing a levy of up to 15% on private businesses. Maduro's administration is keen on leveraging the benefits of Venezuela's recently revived dollarized economy to provide more substantial support to pensioners who currently receive payments in bolivars, a currency that has faced severe devaluation.

Reactions:

While the government views this as a necessary step to ensure economic stability and improve the living standards of retirees, there has been pushback from the business sector. The Venezuelan business association, Fedecamaras, has voiced concerns that this new tax adds another layer of financial burden on businesses already dealing with a complex and onerous tax system. They warn that this could potentially stifle economic growth and deter investment.
What are your thoughts on this new policy? Will it help in stabilizing the economy and supporting pensioners, or will it add too much strain on the private sector? Let's discuss! 🤔💬

2024.05.19 07:19 SpecificLonely6509 My parents want me to get a bf and marry

My parents are 1st gen kids from immigrant parents. For context they met when they were 17 and 18 and have been together ever since.
Growing up in a cultural house and being the oldest child (19f), my parents were extremely strict with me and I feared for my life around them. I was not allowed to have friends let alone boyfriends. Bringing a guy over my house would have been my worst nightmare. This led me to not really take interest in boys or boyfriends and kind of mind my own business, which they were very happy about when I was in high school.
I have grown to be a very attractive woman, to the point that every guy I have ever been friends with had liked me or tried something at some point and I have lost many close friends due to jealousy. I notice, but I don’t really care, I am not interested in anyone and I don’t care to have a boyfriend.
Now that I am a little older and in college, the script has flipped completely. My parents want me to start dating and find a guy to marry. When we are at cultural events, guys will introduce themselves and talk to my dad, trying to get in good with him. My dad tries to get me to talk to them but I just don’t want to. I am just not interested. These guys are very good looking and respectable but I just don’t really care. I don’t know if I am interested in marriage or having children and I think it worries my parents. It is culturally traditional to get married sort of young and have children. This just doesn’t interest me and I want to selfishly live my life.
I think that being so pushed away from engaging in romantic relationships by my parents when I was younger really affected me now. The fact that they changed their perspective on me dating so quickly too just really turns me off. Maybe I will want a relationship at some point, but it honestly makes me feel good to tell them no and turn down every guy. I genuinely am not interested, but I also feel like it is in spite. They believe that I need to marry a guy from our culture and have children, which part of me wants but the other part of me resents the idea and I don’t know why.

2024.05.19 07:00 FiedenFreecss I think this is the end

I’m 23. In my culture, at this age, elders arrange blind dates for us. I didn’t really want to participate, but my parents insisted that I do. So, I went along and met her. Over the next few months, we chatted online almost every day, and I realized we had a lot in common. I fell in love with her. However, recently she told me she doesn’t really like me. I already knew it; the whole thing was just my wishful thinking. I’ve prepared her birthday presents, but I don’t want to continue. I think I should tell her that I’m over it. I mean, now that she said she doesn’t love me, why should I persevere? I’ve been through a lot, and my heart is already broken. I’m more afraid of getting hurt than falling in love. Before she broke my heart, I thought I should run away from this situation. So, I’ve decided to give her the birthday present and tell her we’re done. For the past few months, I’ve tried my best to make her happy, care about her emotions, and talk to her when she’s sick. I’ve told her that everything will be okay. But she’s never done the same for me. Throughout my life, I’ve longed for someone who could say, ‘Don’t worry, everything will be okay.’ Even my parents never said this to me. I realize that no one can truly take care of my feelings, so I’ve become an introverted person. Maybe someday, when I look back on this, I hope I can say, ‘Yeah, I tried my best, and I don’t regret it.’ And when she recalls this, she’ll say, ‘He’s a good person, but we just don’t fit.‘. Maybe after this I’ll never love anyone again, I’m afraid that someday I won’t love her anymore and also afraid someday she won’t love me anymore. Not matter what, I think it’s all my fault, can’t to trust, can’t to love, can’t to persevere, that’s me.

2024.05.19 06:41 Holy_Oblivion Current Situation within Christian Nationalism Nationwide

Salutations and greetings brothers and sisters in Christ.
Having posted last week about the current situation and end state/long term objectives, I would like to identity what the current state of the country is in relative openness to meeting our criteria. A lot of what I write comes from research sources from government websites (such as the US Census Data), research websites from trusted sources (such as the PRRI), or good primary source content from creators or first-person perspectives. Today I want to share a report from PRRI that I references previously in my post about end state and objectives. This will lay out what states have the highest concentrations of support for Christian Nationalism based on research, large groups/concentrations of Orthodox Churches, Large groups/Concentrations of Mainline Protestant churches, and then large groups/concentrations of Evangelical concentrations/groups. Using this data we can distil down to the various different states that would have the highest success rate for growing support for our objectives and end states.
If you recall from my previous post Objective 2 to meet our end state for the Nation is as follows: "38 out of 50 states within the United States must have greater than 50% Christian Nationalists adherents living within them by 2058. (creates super majority)." In this post I identified that we have to focus on 38 states to build up a primary base for changing the geo-political landscape by altering the socio-cultural landscape via Western Anglosphere focus Christian values. Specifically, I call out for a Western Right Orthodox Church of America but any congregation which aligns with Christian Nationalism would suffice. Just that Western Right Orthodoxy would be a solid cornerstone/foundation which would have the structure and adherence rate to survive greater than 80+ years rather than the mercurial protestants denominations which shift like sand. However, if those denominations can stand firm long enough to enact true political reform, amending the constitution, then it is worth to bring those denominations into the fold and act as one body of Christ.
Looking at the data from PRRI: Data Here You can see the breakdown of the different states which have high or higher percentage of support to the cause of Christian Nationalism. What this means for us, is it allows us to narrow down to our targeted 38 states we need to achieve our objectives. While we want to be advancing on all fronts, these 38 will have the highest chance of making mounting or achievable impact on Christendom at large.
With the date for mentioned, we would have to conclude that these 11 states are not reliable for our growth and target objectives. Again, as with the case of New York, Illinois, and California, growth opportunity exists but not enough to justify targeting those states. Our focus now shifts to the bubble/swing states that we can make a difference to bring to the fold.
This leaves us to the 38 states that we have to focus on to achieve our objectives on the strategic level for the United States to regain the conceptualization of Christian nationalism dominated by our Western Right Orthodox Church of America focused on preserving the ideals of Anglosphere cultural and societal roots forward for the next 80-120 years.
This goes into the objective number 1 to meet our end state for the United States and Christian Nationalism. As stated previously: "Establish one Autocephalous Western Right Apostolic Holy Orthodox Church of America with Romanian, Russian, and Antiochian ceding to this new Orthodox Church with establishment of a Patriarch of America." This will create a large common Holy and Orthodox Church of America that will allow for Anglosphere dominate cultural to thrive from the local/micro level all the way to the macro-country wide level. The church will function both culturally and religiously to preserve our common Anglosphere dominated values and Western conceptualizations of rights within our Republic.
As always, please let me know what you think and what can be done to improve. Is this too wordy? Is everyone able to follow along fairly well? Let me know or join the conversation!

2024.05.19 06:37 John_Snake I finished Origins and I'm mesmerized.

I've played only the first game, then the Ezio Trilogy (i had a glimpse of Black Flag and Odyssey in my friend's house but didn't play deeply), and now i finished the main story in Origins and WOW, WHAT A GAME.
First of all, Bayek is an awesome character, he has a heart of gold but he is BRUTAL AS HELL, i loved his angry moments. I also liked how he related to children, the fact that >! his son was murdered!< clearly left a hole, so i see him almost adopting some children he helps in some side quests, and this is very clear in the Shadya incident.
I loved the setting, the timing was perfect, we were allowed to see egyptian, greek and roman cultures. It also allowed us to see figures as Ceasar and Cleopatra.
Aya has little play time, but she is a great character. When i arrived in rome and saw the date as THE IDES OF MARCH it gave me chills because i knew where the game was leading me, and i was right. This classic historical event >! assassination of ceasar!< is perfect for an AC game, and i was hoping for that since the Assassin's tombs in Monterrigioni in AC2.
Speaking of Monterrigioni, now that i know that Aya is Amunet I kinda know what is going to happen because i remember the tomb description in AC2. But I'm still interested because I'm looking foward to see HOW it will evolve.
About the world: It is simply beautiful, rich, and DENSE. I found myself roaming randomly trough the desert or the mountains and BAM I found a tomb, and when i enter the tomb i got those cryptical isu messages that has a whole mistery aura. Not to mention that we have variety, the deserts contrasting to the marble city of alexandria, contrasting with the lush green scenery of cyrenaica. It is a beautiful world.
The Ezio games will always have a special place in my heart with all respects, but I think I can say this is the best AC game I've ever played. And you know the feeling that you already felt the best and now you will never experience anything bigger than that? That's how I'm feeling. I hope i'm wrong, i still have a lot of games to play, The Colonial Trilogy, Unity, Syndicate, the other RPGs... I intend to appreciate all of them in due time.
Now I have 2 DLCS ready to play (people say that hidden ones is pretty good), and a lot of the world in Egypt left to explore, I didn't go to the arena in Cyrene, didn't face the elephants, there are regions unexplored like the sand sea and the desheret desert, not to mention the stone circles, the sphinx and the pyramids.
What should i do first? Start Hidden Ones DLC or finish exploring all of Egypt first?

2024.05.19 06:37 zulalee Proud les4les and tired of having to explain why

Anyone else exhausted of having to justify why they are more predominantly attracted to/pursue/date other lesbians? And no, it has nothing to do with being a “gold-star” or insert_here phobia.
I’m a lesbian who was in the closet for many years due to growing up in a strict Christian household, and literally faced threats of being sent to conversion therapy if I was anything other than heterosexual. Because of that, it took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I like women. Even longer than that to realize I didn’t like men at all and wouldn’t be able to have the traditional husband/wife nuclear family that I was told would be my most important vocation.
Coming to terms with the fact that I had zero interest in men, in a world where you’re conditioned to and expected to revolve your life and identity around attraction to men, was an incredibly difficult and significant life experience. I would want to date someone who could relate to and reaffirm that experience. Who also had to undergo the process of decentering men and living a life free of attraction to men in a society that punishes you for doing so.
I feel like non-lesbian sapphics will never understand how isolating and lonely it can be to be a tiny minority that has no interest in men and the culture of attraction to them. I have nothing against other wlw, and love to share a wider community with them, just no interest in dating them as of now.
Also since when was it bad to have preferences? Nobody is entitled to date you, and if that bothers you I deeply encourage you to look inwards at your own insecurities and address why you feel like you’re owed that.

2024.05.19 06:25 yatoumbrella_12 I'm confused whether to move forward with my relationship due to cultural issues and my BF's financial situations

For context, me (23) and my bf(30) who are co-workers have been together for a year and a half. I'm Indian and he's Arab. We love each other very much and though our styles of expression are different we respect each other and try to communicate. We have been each other's safe spaces from the moment we became friends until now.
However, the major challenge I'm facing is that his family does not know anything about me and he still has to hide our relationship with them. They are aware he has a girlfriend but does not know anything else as they will not be happy about him marrying outside his religion and country. On the other hand my parents have already met him and he even texts my mom to wish us on special occasions/holidays.
I'm trying to be understanding of these actions of his. I get that where he is from, dating is a taboo subject. And both of us being from different religions, nationalities and our age gap does not make things easier. When we agreed to start dating we acknowledged our differences and told each other we will take things day by day. But now that we've been together for a year and a half I'm starting to want more. More of his time, more acceptance and less hiding, and promise of a future together. I'm not someone who is very keen on marriage or having kids so all I just want is assurance that we'd both fight together for our future.
A few weeks ago I had asked him if his family found about us and told him to break up what would he do and he said he doesn't know. I was extremely hurt by this answer and tried to initiate a break up by asking if he wants to stop what we have and he said he definitely does not want to. And in an attempt to stop me from feeling as terrible as I did he said he will handle it when the time comes. His words offered a very short lived comfort and I'm back to square one of thinking he will not do anything for us, especially since he has made it clear on multiple occasions that his family comes first no matter what.
To make things even worse he's currently solely financially supporting his family of 9-10 members who all live with him. This has made it difficult for us to hangout out a lot often as we once did (mind you when we started dating this was not the case). And since he's living in a crowded house I have to be careful when I call him as he might have family near him who might find out about us. The fact that we're coworkers doesn't make it easier as it's not like we can be affectionate in the office.
Due to these circumstances I now feel wedged in between wanting more of him but feeling like I am an inconvenience to his life. He assures i am not and asks me to stop overthinking thinggs but that is difficult for me. I understand that these life circumstances are harder on him than me and he is definitely suffering. But it is also my first relationship. I've reached a point where I find myself crying every other week worried about our future because I can't and don't want to let go of him. It's not easy to find people who you connect with and can be your safe space. Even if I do find the courage to break up I don't even want to think about the bout of depression and loneliness that would await.
Please advise me on my situation as I feel completely lost and stuck with these issues in my relationship
TL;DR: as my bf and I from different cultures and nationalities are almost approaching the 2 year mark I want more from him such as not hiding me from his family and his time. But due to cultural differences and his financial situation he's unable to do the same for me. Please advise

2024.05.19 06:06 Accurate_Bicycle8725 As a rising college freshman, summer internship or study abroad

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Scholarship: Fully funded by the U.S Department of State, NSLI-Y provides intensive 8-week language & cultural immersion programs in locations around the world. The program is part of a U.S. government initiative to foster international cooperation by ensuring that Americans have the linguistic skills and cultural knowledge necessary to effectively communicate. NSLI-Y provides overseas critical language study opportunities to American youth through merit-based scholarships to spark a lifetime interest in critical foreign languages and cultures.
The program schedule consists of 4 hrs of language study at a local school, cultural excursions after school, free time, time w/ host family, homework.
Pros • Free travel to Indonesia, low income so might be only chance • Learn Indonesian language • Love traveling/ study abroad (my dream) • I’ve been focused on school, I want a break before college • Meet new friends • Could help me get other study abroad • Intangible benefits: personal growth, language, etc. • Short term fun • Can leave home earlier
Cons • College starts the day after I get back (3 hrs away) • Orientation dates are when im gone so I wont be able to go in person • Will probably attend a virtual orientation but its when im already gone • Only chance to participate
Government Internship for rising college freshman: Engineering internship at an Air Force Base w/ a college prep element. 1st & 2nd years do college/ life prep & engineering. 3rd & 4th years are placed on a team.
Pros • If I stay in the program, they will most likely offer a job (main purpose of program) • Guaranteed internship throughout college if I keep a 3.0 GPA • I’ll make around 6,000 (Salaried 30k+) • Salary increases every summer • College prep themes every week: guest speakers in industry, mentors, life lessons, “college hacks”, etc. • Project-based learning assignments: Learn coding in python (currently a beginner), build & program hardware, etc. • Can use all base amenities • Head start to learn Computer Engr & mentorship as first gen low income • Tangible benefits: money, engineering skills, career advancement, etc. • Long term advancements
Cons • Would be giving up other summer opportunities • If I decide I don’t want to do it anymore, I’ll regret not doing NSLI-Y Indonesian summer • Won’t be able to apply until sophomore year & the college prep isn’t included • If I get the post college job, I’ll have to move back near my hometown
I’m really conflicted on what to chose because I really love to travel, and I feel like going on the study abroad will be really beneficial to me. Though a lot of people have told me it would be stupid to pass up this internship because there are so many other study abroad opportunities. But I feel like there are other internships and I’ll be working the rest of my life so I should just enjoy the summer. At first I was gonna chose study abroad then I started to reconsider bc I fear that I won’t be good enough in engineering to get another internship in college.
So which should I do?

2024.05.19 05:51 whatthefruits Need help on assessing essay - test is tomorrow and I wanted to see how I would fare

Hi all,
My GRE Test is tomorrow, and while I believe I'm pretty ready with regards to verbal and quant, I don't know how I currently fare with my essays, and wanted to see what someone more experienced with the GRE would rate my essay. Attached below is the prompt, and the essay.
Greatly appreciate the help!
Conditions: Timed. Completed in 29m27s.
Time distribution:
Planning - 5min
Intro - 6min
Body - 4min each
Conclusion - 3.5min
Check - 3min
Prompt:
To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
Essay:
While we may often state that society is filled with varying cultures and idiosyncrasies, as the number of people we account for increases, these idiosyncrasies get lost in the hubbub of major cities as statistical noise, in favor for a set of united defining traits. It is hence apt to state that the most important characteristics of a society – the fundamental pith of what makes a society unique from other such groups - would be concentrated in major cities. To that end, I believe it is important to study major cities of a society to understand its most important characteristics, especially with their impacts in the fields of cultural shifts, technological development, and economics and manufacturing.
It can be said that major cities are in essence a hodge podge of the cultures of not only those native to such major cities, but also of outlying towns – migratory flows, for a pithier term. As such, it is important to take note of such migratory flows and how these affect the characteristics of a society – especially in the socio-psychological aspect of human interaction. The city of Madison, Wisconsin, for example, often accentuates the rather special mix of modern liberal values with conservative hospitality, and this is conferred to the metropolitan, major city of Chicago. In this respect, the effects of the city of Madison has had a pronounced effect on the characteristics of its surrounding cities, which in turn leads to ripple effects to society as more people migrate from such outlying cities onto more metropolitan areas.
However, we can certainly say that these effects can also be seen in the major cities as well. In fact, the concentration of cultural flows and the incidence of cultural Zeitgeists in major cities are often much more frequent, rapid, and integral to understanding society as a whole. Significant changes in lifestyle in major cities such as Seoul and Tokyo have strong ripple effects to the cultural mindset of young people even in cities outside of Tokyo and Seoul, and are hence significantly more reflective of society as a whole. For a more specific example, dating culture in Tokyo has recently worsened, with increasing ubiquity of egregious cases of compensated dating, and this has had ripple effects on young people dating less in say, Kanagawa Prefecture. In Seoul, an increased focus for feminism has resulted in a greater career thrust in young women throughout Korea. Changes we see in major cities often permeate into outlying cities, and are hence reflective of a society.
Additionally, advancements in science and technology are often developed in major cities, especially with the availability of infrastructure, the pool of talented people migrating to such major cities, and the general culture for science and technology. A local example of this would be California – the posthumous Silicon Valley – and Hsinchu, Taiwan – a semiconductor fabrication hub. These major cities pool talent and infrastructure, allowing for major developments in science and technology ranging from Lithium-ion battery and its applications in advanced consumer goods such as electric cars, to developments in Artificial Intelligence technology, to even the coveted membrane technology used for environmentally friendly separations and hyper-selective energy-conservative manufacturing. As major cities are often major science and technology hubs which significantly drive progress in society, it would be remiss to ignore the forest for the trees, and it would hence be important to redouble our efforts into better study major cities.
Finally, it is also important to recognize that major cities are often economic and manufacturing hubs. Cities like New York and New Jersey – with its long history of a robust financial district and historic manufacturing hubs alike – are often the backbone by which most of America runs. The stock market is an inextricable part of daily life in America – with the rapid corporatization of America, the stock market presents an opportunity for not only social mobility, but also business ventures one would normally not expect. New Jersey – as a major manufacturing hub – has many integral industries that it supports, ranging from the medical devices industry, to semiconductor metrology, and to even large volume manufacturing of general goods such as toilet paper, bamboo chopsticks, and metal and wood polishing. Noting the importance of such hubs and the societal implications of the fluctuations that affect such hubs, it would, once again, be putting the cart before the horse to focus on outlying cities with less of an impact on society as a whole.
In conclusion, while I understand that it is important to also study flows from outlying cities to understand the characteristics of a society as a whole, it is much more prudent to extract this information in its concentrated form, by examining major cities instead with a fine-toothed comb. With that in mind, I believe it is extremely integral that we study a society’s major cities to better understand what a society stands for.

2024.05.19 05:34 akalikali Difficulty making friends as an immigrant

Students segregate themselves. Am I the only one who noticed that? Am I segregating myself from others?
Especially in the US, I noticed that a lot (not saying all!) Black, White, Asian, students tend to stay with the same race / nationality. I’ve rarely seen mixed friend groups.
As an immigrant who lived in 5 different countries, I don’t label myself…yeah I might have my Eastern European mindset/manners/ because I was born there speaking Russian (native speaker) and was raised by USSR parents, but I’m still far away from being a “stereotypical Eastern European” lol I don’t know if you get it!
M22. I Don’t smoke, I don’t drink, and I don’t go clubbing. Already cuts me off from a lot of college students!
I’ve NEVER had the chance to become friends with White Americans…I don’t know how…you guys (White Americans) have your own social circle and your rich parents paying your college tuition won’t let any outsiders in to your family…it’s the truth. Don’t pretend that foreigners with completely different lifestyle, culture, food, etc. will truly get along with Americans. Which is a pity. Your parents seemed to have accomplished the American dream while we only just got here haha. Every time that I talk to Americans…i feel like I’m being mocked. Military / retired veteran parents made fun of my dad working 2+ jobs, how we never use AC in summer, how we never go out to eat, how we don’t consume all the same media…I don’t know…
I knew many Asians (Vietnamese girls)…I guess the language barrier ruined everything because they seemed like the only motivated, funny, and caring friends. I even invited a girl for a date (at least I thought it was a date) but she is moving to another state and she was interested in another guy. I’m still genuinely interested in their culture, family and country but…god knows what they are going through with their parents forcing them to study in the US.
My Russian speaking acquaintances don’t hang out with me. They go clubbing, drinking, doing other stupid things… they actually used me for their English homework and I was helping them because I was desperate to make friends (I know it’s dumb lol). I took them out to eat on campus for my OWN money and I even invited them to my house…they never invited me anywhere. Never.
It’s still a weird and hard topic for me…

2024.05.19 05:20 shellof_a_man my first review: Atavista - Childish Gambino Album Review, I would love any tips you guys have!

I just wrote my first album review and I know it needs work. Please offer tips of any kind!
I will post it for free here, but if you have medium please read it here:
https://medium.com/@benbrotmanb/secrets-heartbeat-atavista-by-childish-gambino-an-album-review-fce8f38ee5a0
But here's the full article:

“Secrets, Heartbeat” Atavista by Childish Gambino : an Album Review

Atavista released on May 13, 2024, a yearned-for date for fans of Childish Gambino’s former records like his most recent efforts Kauai (2014) and “Awaken, My Love!” (2016). It’s no secret that Donald Glover has carved into and entrenched himself in the inventive R&B and Hip-hop scene of the last 20-plus years, an extension of his creative and successful efforts as an actor. The following he’s amassed have waited a long seven years for the release of any project, unsure for much of that time if he even would.
Childish Gambino’s musical projects have improved with each release since 2011’s Camp. In those earlier years, his messages were met with overwhelmingly corny delivery and style, but his endeavors remained steady and he eventually found more profound and artistic ways to speak to his audience and the world. Gambino’s music includes but is not limited to addressing and critiquing American society and pop culture (see his smash hit “This is America”), while also pondering what life means and who he really is behind the fame.
The anticipation for this record was high for many having found enjoyment in his discography, including, most recently, the psychedelic, groovy, passionate, and emotional “Awaken, My Love!”.
The album art to represent this record seems to differ completely from all his previous. The jarringly blank white background with “ATAVISTA” pasted across the center to me indicated a significant change in his approach these many years later, but his style changes so drastically with each release that it was up in the air.
The introduction and title track “Atavista” fed us a short reflection on the word and it’s context — it meaning some sort of return to something ancestral or left behind, but this track didn’t reveal too much about how the rest would unfold.
By the third song “Time” with Ariana Grande, it was clear that Childish Gambino was taking another more pop-based approach to his regular variation on R&B — dappled with messages about his unique journey with self-love (see “To Be Hunted”) and the faults within social media(in “Algorhythm” and more).
A suprising first feature on the record, Ariana steps up to the plate. Her verse ends about as quickly as it begins, leaving something to be desired of her talent. The experience thus far felt lacking, but it was hard to put a finger on it.
What gave the album some kick after a slightly underwhelming beginning were two stand-out catchy and trademarked Gambino groove tracks: “Sweet Thang” with Summer Walker and “Little Foot Big Foot” with Young Nudy. The former is a sugary, southern, and soulful track that speaks on the ups and downs of relationships, neutrally expressing negative traits about his lover, but that they are a “sweet thang” regardless. “Little Foot Big Foot” showboats an earworm flow paired with a masterfully-utilized Nudy verse — a testament purely by his presence to the track’s message about the connection between absent fathers and drug dealing.
The album’s progression then begins to experience a falling action. Ther final few songs contributed little to the more passionate essence of what Gambino laid out just before. The production and overall sound of the the record (and especially the second half) was bland, monotonous, and drawn out — not something expected to hear after expecting the building momentum to continue. The wait was overall not worth the results of Childish Gambino’s efforts this time around, only creating a greater hole to fill for fans of his who feel the same.

5.5/10.

2024.05.19 05:17 Express-Bill-3943 What are some methods i can use to chemically castrate myself??

I am 5’9” and indian so i’m basically doomed to die alone, as i was born and raised in ameirca and culturally american (speak the english language, like ameircan music, food, sports, etc). But it’s clear that i’m pratically deformed when it comes to dating due to my height and race.
What are some methods i can use to permanently kill my sex drive as my sex drive is causing me large amounts of anxiety and thinking about sex is making me upset and resentful. Thx. I’m currently thinking off working out 2-3 hours daily while only rating 500 calories in order to expend all my energy in the gym and have none after wards.
I’m 20 years old if that matters.

2024.05.19 05:16 Key_Cardiologist_571 Help me unite South America pls

So I sphered all of South America and have researched Revolution & Counterrevolution. I should be able to form the USSA, but there's just one little problem: South Peru exists, and it's a puppet to the Peru-Bolivian Confederation. I know this is the problem because I manually liberated South Peru, and THEN I was able to unite South America.
So, I would really appreciate it if someone who knows modding more than me was able to modify the "form_USSA" decision so that you can unite the continent despite one of the sphered countries being a puppet to another sphered nation. BTW, if the code looks unnecessarily long, it's because I've had to change it myself time and again with my VERY my limited coding knowledge because it was broken AF. (Also, It's from The Grand Combination mod)
