2024.05.19 06:06 MyNameIsRobPaulson Huge TCB 2.0 update quietly released last Saturday. Lots of juicy info posted.

*Not last Sat - May 8th - about a week and half ago.
EDIT: I should add context for the uninitiated: The old coupon barcode standard (called 8110) that is used pretty much everywhere in retail is being replaced with a new system called 8112. This is mandatory and the old system will be sunsetted. Hedera will act as the fully auditable transparent public ledger layer - making fraud impossible (coupon fraud is massive). Each coupon will trigger two or three HCS transactions. All parties involved will instantly be aware of the status of any coupon. TCB is The Coupon Bureau, an industry created non-profit that has been organizing the entire switch to 8112 which has been taking FOREVER.
Not sure if someone posted about this already but check this out:
https://update.thecouponbureau.org/announcements/tcb-version-2-0-0
You can read the summaries of all the changes in the Overview sections. A lot of them seem to be very significant changes that obviously were requested by users. The narrative we've gotten from TCB so far has been that retail has been slow to adopt, which is probably partially true... but gauging from the extensive overhaul that is 2.0 - the system might have not been ready. There are some very fundamental changes in here.
Here's an interesting part:
"The TCB team has conducted thorough load testing of the platform, and we're thrilled to share that we've achieved a throughput of 6200 transactions per second. The comprehensive load testing results have been made available at https://perf.thecouponbureau.org. Below is an image illustrating an overview of the load testing outcomes."
If you click that link you can see all the different kinds of calls that could be made (and would be mirrored on Hedera)
Other tidbits:
The mobile 8112 coupon app Gitsy that was developed by a former Hedera employee was updated a day before 2.0, on May 7th. (thanks Jeep)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spectivlabs.bndl&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1
Also remember Toshiba POS systems (capturing 60% of the US retail POS market and 80% of Latin America) announced they are 8112 ready last Jan. https://www.pr.com/press-release/903848
Is TCB at the cusp of 8112 going live? We will have to wait another 35 years? Will I actually be able buy discounted TP and have it recorded on HCS for all time??
I've been hoping this use case could be the digestible crypto utility that might actually break through to MSM, so we could one day finally get the sell signal of random boomers asking, "have you heard of this HBAR thing?"

2024.05.18 16:11 aK1donn Savvy Shopping: Your Guide to Scoring the Best Deals and Saving Money

1. Create a Budget and Stick to It

Before you start shopping, set a budget to control your spending. Make a list of the items you need and stick to it. This helps you avoid impulse buys and ensures you stay within your financial limits.

2. Shop at the Right Time

Timing can significantly impact your savings. Here are some key periods to watch for:

3. Use Coupons Wisely

Coupons are a powerful tool for saving money. Here’s how to maximize their use:

4. Compare Prices

Before making a purchase, compare prices across multiple retailers. Use tools like Google Shopping, ShopSavvy, and PriceGrabber to ensure you're getting the best deal. Don’t forget to check for price-matching policies that many stores offer.

5. Buy in Bulk

When non-perishable items or household staples are on sale, buy in bulk to save money over time. Ensure you have adequate storage space to avoid waste. Items like toilet paper, canned goods, and cleaning supplies are ideal for bulk purchases.

6. Take Advantage of Rewards Programs

Join rewards programs at your favorite stores to earn points on your purchases. These points can often be redeemed for discounts or free products. Credit cards with cash back or rewards points are also a great way to earn while you shop.

7. Utilize Cash Back Offers

Cash back websites and apps like Rakuten or Swagbucks give you a percentage of your purchase back when you shop through their links. This is an easy way to earn money on purchases you’re already making.

8. Shop Clearance Sections

Always check the clearance sections in stores and online. These areas often have deeply discounted items that are perfectly good but may be out of season or overstocked.

9. Look for Free Shipping

Shipping costs can add up quickly, so look for retailers that offer free shipping. Many stores provide free shipping on orders over a certain amount. Use tools like FreeShipping.org to find free shipping codes and offers.

10. Plan Meals Around Sales

Base your weekly meal plan on what's on sale at your local grocery store. Check weekly ads and use grocery store apps to find the best deals. Planning meals around sales ensures you buy what’s discounted, saving you money on groceries.
By following these tips, you can make smarter shopping decisions, save money, and make the most out of every dollar. Happy shopping!

2024.05.18 12:47 singshopsleep Question About Combining Coupons in Store

Does anyone know if I can combine the $10 off $30 with a 20% off coupon in the store? I read the fine print for the $10 off $30, and it states that they only need to scan your Reward Member's ID. However, when I click on the $10 off $30, I see a barcode.

2024.05.17 01:54 RoseAlma Yes... it is

Yes... it is
Omfg
Lately I have been getting treated like I am either a very new Shopper or highly incompetent.
Example 1: Requested travel size mouthwash is out of stock. There is a another brand (and the ONLY option) two spaces down, but since customer asked me to check in with her before any subs, I just send a pic. She responds "is there any (other brand) ? It's two spaces down... " Why, Yes. Yes, there is - as you will soon see once the picture finishes sending... etc etc on THAT order which I actually ended up soon cancelling.
I've shopped for her before and although she tips decently, the anger I pick up from her and unnecessary extra time for the back and forths about subs (which 90% of the time I would have chosen anyway) is not worth it. Side example: Her requested paper plates are OOS, so I send a pic of other options. "What is this issue ?" JFC !! Let's use some deductive reasoning - you ordered paper plates and now getting a picture of paper plates . This ain't your first rodeo/order. WTF do you THINK the issue may be ???
Example 2: Go to scan the barcode at beginning of checkout (at self checkout) and get prompted to "insert coupon". Ok, so I feed a piece of paper into slot and start to move on with my Life... meanwhile overeager SCO lady is hovering near me and exclaims "Oh ! you did it... I was going to tell you you can do that." "Yes, I can... I've done it thousands of times now, but Thank You"
Example 3: this pic in post. I've shopped for this person multiple times already... Does she not recognize me or something ? Have I messed up her order in the past ??
ohmygawd - am I just burned out here ??? LOL

2024.05.13 22:51 disusedyeti78 Almost Complete list of Baby registry boxes March/April 2024

If you're interested in baby registry boxes but don't know which one to try or how to even sign up for them I have some info for you here! I got boxes/bags from Target, Walmart, Amazon, Hey Milestone, Babylist, and Similac and I'm still waiting for a box from Enfamil. I'm not an influencer or someone paid by these companies I just really like surprise boxes of stuff. I have pictures but I don't know how to add them. Anyway onto the lists.
Target:
How to get: This appears to have changed recently. According to target.com you join the Target Circle rewards, create a baby registry, add 10 items, and spend $10 from registry (either yourself of someone else). You have to pick up the bag in store with a barcode they give to you and it can be somewhat difficult to get since supplies are limited. When I did this in March all I had to do was create a registry and then go to the store to pick up the bag.
Items:
1 Philips Avent Natural Bottle
1 Dr Browns Anti-Colic Bottle
3 pack sample of Huggies Special Delivery Diapers
2 pack sample of Millie Moon Diapers
16 count sample of Huggies Natural Care wipes
10 count sample of Honest plant based wipes
10 count sample of Water Wipes
2 count sample of Lansinho breastmilk storage bags
2 count sample of Lansinho disposable nursing pads
1 count sample if Boogie Wipes
1 sample of Dreft scent booster for laundry
1 sample of Palmers stretch mark lotion
1 sample of Dapple bottle and dish soap
1 sample of Pedialyte
1 sample of Auqaphor baby ointment
1 sample bottle of Aveno baby wash and shampoo
1 sample tube of Triple Paste diaper rash cream
All coupons are through Target Circle rewards
Walmart:
How to Get: Sign up for a registry at Walmart. Click this link https://walmart.cesampling.com/babybox/soldout and fill out the form and it would be shipped to you for free. Unfortunately these boxes have been sold out since last year but maybe they will restock. I only got one because my OB’s office gave it to me at my first appointment. You’re not missing much by not getting one.
Items:
1 Dr Browns Anti-Colic Bottle
3 pack sample of Huggies Special Delivery Diapers
16 count sample pack of Huggies Natural Care Wipes
1 sample of Arm & Hammer baby laundry detergent
1 sample bottle of Johnson’s head to toe wash and shampoo
1 sample bottle of Aveno baby wash and shampoo
1 pack of milestone month cards
Insert cards (not coupons) for Gerber, WaterWipes, Liquid IV, Aquaphor, and Arm & Hammer
Amazon:
How to Get: Have an Amazon prime account. Create a baby registry. Add 10 items to your baby registry. Purchase $10 worth of items from registry (either yourself or someone else). Wait for the items to ship and then add the baby welcome box to your shopping cart. There should be a $35 coupon applied when you go to checkout.
1 Newborn Swaddle size 36in x 36in
1 Amazon Essentials 3-6 month onesie
1 Mam Anti-Colic Bottle and Pacifier set
1 Bessie's Best lactation cookie

$200 off Factor meal delivery service

A card booklet with ideas for the registry
Hey Milestone:
How to Get: Hey Milestone is not a registry. They make three different baby boxes you can choose from and you just pay shipping. If you’re considering multiple boxes it’s best to get them all at once because the shipping will be cheaper. Shipping for one was $12.99. I only got one, the pregnancy box, so I can't tell you what you may expect from the other two. Check them out here: https://www.heymilestone.com/

Babylist:
How to Get: This one is by far the most involved process. Create a registry on Babylist. Enter in your baby’s due date, you address, and first and last name. Add three items from the Babylist shop. Add three items from other stores (you can do this by putting a plug-in from the website on Chrome or Firefox. More detailed instructions on the website). Complete 40% of your registry checklist (you can do this by just checking items off yourself). Spend $30 from your registry at the babylist store (either yourself of someone else). The $30 must be spent on items from the babylist store! Once these things are done you can pay $8.95 for shipping or you can chose simple shipping and it’s free.

Enfamil:
How to get:
Sign up for Enfamil Beginnings at https://www.enfamil.com/baby-formula-coupons-samples/ . It’s completely free. I do recommend using an email you rarely use and don’t put in your phone number. I’m still waiting on my Wonder Box to come. They tend to ship close to your due date so I may get it soon.
Overall thoughts: I enjoyed the fun of going through the boxes to see what I got. The Walmart one is no great loss to anyone not able to get one. I was disappointed with the Amazon one because I expected it to be a bit better based on what others had gotten. Plus I didn’t get the Dude Wipes people were getting and I was looking forward to them lol. The Babylist box was the best of the bunch, which is good considering the hoops you have to jump through to get it. Hey Milestone was great for the butt paste and bottle alone. I was also really pleased with the Target bag. These are just the things I got and each box/bag may be different.

2024.05.13 22:26 Mikazah This week's grocery haul: I got paid $0.61 to take $20 worth of Butter, Mac n Cheese, Energy Drinks, and Sparkling Water!

Here are the goodies.

I am excited about the butter. It's dairy free, and you can't tell the difference for most of the baked goods I make!

Total: $19.84

Coupons: None!

Total Cash Back: $20.45

Final Cost: -$0.61 - Money Maker

Here is the complete break down and sites used. The stores are listed in the breakdown image. I don't include sites that take any receipt on my breakdown.
Note: Individual deals vary by user for most apps. If you don't have the deals right now, you can try checking back later.

My Guides
  1. All rebate apps/sites I use and/or know about
  2. How I do my hauls
  3. Beginners guide to using rebate apps/sites - for those who don't know where to start

If you aren't interested in this kind of thing, please keep your comments to yourself. If you don't like what I buy, you can buy different products. If you don't like hunting for deals, you can do surveys, microtasks, games or whatever else you like instead. There is no need to discourage other users just because you aren't interested in the same things!

If you don't need feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, soaps, etc - consider donating them to your local women's shelter, church, or school!

Some Additional Deals

Afterthoughts

Small haul for a small bonus today. I put together that part of the haul last night, and once I saw the $5 / 10 bonus, I completely forgot to check every other app, haha. Technically a slight profit loss meeting my IB bonus today, but that's okay because I'm making progress towards my bigger bonus. If I were to prorate that bonus, that'd be an extra $4.52, so it's definitely worth it.

My Beneful finally stopped resetting, unfortunately. Hopefully the Mac a Roni and butter keep resetting. I was going to get a couple other things too just to work towards my big bonus, but my store was out. I'll be going out of town later this week, so maybe I'll get lucky and find some good deals at stores that aren't around here.

Time Spent

I glanced at IB last night for like 5-10 minutes. I was planning to finish planning the haul today, but I didn't need to find any more deals. I was in the store for 50 minutes today, which included my regular shopping as well as browsing through the plants and clearance aisles.

Food From Deals

Here's an idea: Mix up a white cheddar Mac a Roni, with your choice of ham, sausage, chicken, pork, or one of the vegan meat alternatives. Add a little soy sauce, and some green peas if you wish. You could even add some extra butter and milk (or plant based milk) to make it a bit creamier. Serve with a slice of buttered toast or some Jasmine Rice. Perhaps make a little Banana bread for dessert. (Note: Everything mentioned has Ibotta deals available.)

Here's some things I've made in the past: High Protein Tomato Crackers, Hot Sausage Cups, Peanut Butter Fudge & Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge, Chocolate Cherry Pie

Do you guys want me to continue showing things I've made using ingredients I got from rebate apps on these posts? Let me know in the comments, or you can vote on this poll if you want to remain anonymous.

Mini FAQ

  • If you're new or confused - check out the guides near the top of the post. They go into detail about everything.
  • I'm from the USA and these posts are tailored as such, but this post of mine does list things from other countries that I know about.
  • My posts are tailored to being money makers to suit this subreddit. There are tons of great deals that aren't money makers but can still save you a lot of money.
  • A lot of what I get is given away to friends, family or is donated. I do this more as a hobby than anything.
  • I generally do not share my spreadsheet since the one shown in this post is not the one I actually use (it's put together with a script from my usual spreadsheet) and there are a ton of little things that will give you wrong values if you don't know about them and even then you have to be careful. It's super easy to make a spreadsheet with Google Sheets though.

2024.05.12 01:11 tater-tots230 SENR10%

i come to michaels like almost daily and usually i pay full price for some of my items but always try to get it when sales are going on or coupons show up in the app.
the last week, when i have visited, i have noticed the SENR10% discount applies to my transaction after the employee (or me if i pay with my credit card at SCO) scans my rewards barcode in the app. i want to assume this is a senior discount? however i am literally 23 and have never applied for a senior discount let alone know how to hook it up to my account.
so my question is - what is it? how did it get there? and should i call customer service to take it off?

That said, they rang up regular price. I mentioned the discount to the associate and they said sorry do you have a coupon. If you use Shopmium (or Alexa for Amazon gift card) check this one out.
Buy 1.39 creme, submit receipt and get back 2.00.
Disclaimer: the coupon says not for trial/travel size. I found this Nivea creme at Target and that box said “travel size” however I scanned the barcode to check with Shopmium and it matched. Already got the cash back as well.
