In a unanimous vote, Zoey is eliminated, while Scott has gained immunity in a 5-3-3 vote.
Back on the plane. Sugar, Scott, and Topher are plotting. Scott states that as he’s currently safe, it’s Sugar & Topher who need to finish their plan with Zoey. Topher chimes in, saying that he’s got a plan that will definitely show off his natural charisma. He lays the details out, and Sugar tells him that this better work, before Scott tells them all to break.
Max & Staci are sitting in the economy class of the Jumbo Jet when Topher walks up, looking convincingly down. Max angrily asks what Topher wants, and Topher suggests voting out Zoey, as her temper could get really hairy, along with being a threat. Max spits at Topher, saying that Sugar covers all of those things as well, but is much nastier. Topher shuffles out, asking them to simply think about it.
Zoey has grabbed Dawn, Anne Maria, & Cameron, apologizing for what she did in the challenge. They all accept her apology, and just then, the P.A system pipes up, telling everyone to go vote. Topher goes up to Anne Maria as she’s walking out and says that she should vote Zoey for the same reasons in which he told Max & Staci to do so, along with the fact that she can get help with her anger issues outside of the game. Anne Maria asks what he means, but Topher has jetted off.
At the elimination ceremony, Chris quickly grants everyone besides Sugar & Zoey safe. Cameron asks what the holdup is with Sugar & Zoey, as Sugar was most definitely eliminated. Chris tells him that’s what Cameron simply thinks, before whistling, which brings out Will, who is moving around a mini-tv on a cart. He plugs it in, and Chris says that he believes that everyone should see the votes. In the confessional, Anne Maria utters “oh no”, and when Topher is in there, he’s squealing “Oh yeeesss!”, with popcorn in his hand.
Chris presses play, and we see the votes:
An angry Zoey mercilessly stamps Sugar’s face, saying “good riddance”.
Max also stamps Sugar’s passport, and huffs as he leaves the voting booth.
Scott stamps Zoey’s passport, stating that this plan of Topher’s better work, or they’re screwed.
Sugar votes for Zoey, stating that no one will get her out.
Dawn votes for Sugar, saying that one great injustice should be vanquished here.
A silent Staci is choosing between Sugar & Zoey and decides on Zoey.
Cameron puts in his vote for Sugar and says that he hopes Dawn is correct.
A smug Topher puts in his vote for Zoey, saying that the next vote may shock you.
Anne Maria is last, puts down her vote for Zoey while taking a deep breath, saying that she hopes that she doesn’t regret this.
Needless to say, Zoey, Dawn, Max, and Cameron are flabbergasted by these results. Zoey is nearly brought to tears again, simply apologizing for what she did today, before jumping off with a parachute. Dawn & Max are now staring at Scott, Sugar, & Topher with the power of a thousand suns, and Dawn is calling them “wretched souls” that would do anything for the smallest amount of money. Dawn & Max also look at Staci & Anne Maria, with the latter group having nothing to say. Dawn asks how they could do this, and Anne Maria said that she thought it may be best for Zoey to leave to get her issues in check, and that Topher made a decent point. With Max, he promptly kicks Topher in the balls, Scott in the shins, and slaps Sugar in the face. Max then goes up to Staci, saying that their alliance (and friendship) is over, before storming off. As Staci is sniffling about this, Chris barges in, signing off the show after asking some narrative questions.
Chinese Fake-Out
We start in first class, with Scott mocking Anne Maria. He tells her that she can’t possibly consider herself a hero anymore, and mockingly asks if Anne Maria is interested in joining his alliance. Due to this, Anne Maria shoves Scott face-first into the wedding cake right next to them, while walking away with a slice. In the confessional, a cake-covered Scott says that it feels good to be back on top, and that he should have a ticket to the finals if he plays his cards right. Anne Maria comes in next, saying that Scott, Topher, & Sugar are nothing more than a pack of filthy rats in an Atlantic City sewer system, and that she can’t believe that she fell for what Topher had said.
In economy class, Max is distraught, slightly more than Dawn. He laments about how Scott, Topher, and Sugar have the upper hand, and isn’t even sure if he can really trust Staci now, who is moping in a corner. Cameron then tells him that even if he’s upset at Staci & Anne Maria, he doubts that they maliciously voted off Zoey, and were truly worried about her. Staci confirms that’s what she thought, and Max starts to retort before putting his face in his hands, wondering what they’ll do. Topher & Sugar are watching this from afar, enjoying every second. Sugar starts to point & laugh at Max before falling over, as Chef has just roughly started to land the plane.
The contestants are lined up in front of the Great Wall of China. Before a cell phone call interrupts Chris's explanation of the competition, he gets as far as saying that the contestants must race along the wall The contestants start running after they misinterpret a signal, missing out on vital information about the challenge. Chris lets them go, figuring that this will just make things more interesting. As they’re running along the wall, Sugar tells Topher to get the rickshaw. Anne Maria says that the rickshaw isn’t hers yet, and Sugar tells her to get a real tan, which she gets slapped by Anne Maria for.
At the 2/5 mark of their journey, the contestants find many types of vehicles. Topher gets there first, with Sugar right by him. Topher suggests that Sugar carry him in the rickshaw, as she’d be good at that, which Sugar beams at. Topher whispers “Sucker!”, as Sugar gets ready to pull. Anne Maria gets there next and grabs the skateboard.
Dawn gets the bike, and Scott leaps over Cameron with his pogo stick, as Cameron mounts his trike. Max is having trouble mounting his donkey, and Staci comes up, offering to help him. Max says that he doesn’t need help, but after falling for the fourth time, he accepts her help. Staci then looks for her vehicle, which ends up being traditional Chinese Wooden Shoes.
Sugar, Topher, and Anne Maria are vigorously speeding down the Great Wall, until Sugar hits a land mine sending her & Topher into the air. Max’s donkey has stubbornly stopped, and Scott is laughing at him as he bounces past. Max then hatches an idea, which is to kick the donkey in the butt, which nearly sends him flying off the wall. With Dawn & Cameron, Cameron’s tricycle is stuck in a crack. Dawn tries to help him out but can’t get it unstuck, so she offers him a ride on her bike. Dawn & Cameron race for the finish line, but they hit another land mine, sending them both backwards past Chris’s helicopter.
Anne Maria, Topher, & Sugar reach the finish line almost simultaneously, only to discover that there is no prize for first place; instead, whoever crossed the finish line first gets to join Chris for a "special" lunch, which is the next part of the competition. Scott reaches the finish via pogo stick and tells Chris to end the challenge when he sees Max & Staci rapidly advancing. However, Max & Staci make it over the line barely soon enough, making Cameron & Dawn the only ones ineligible to compete in the next part of the challenge.
In the Chinese restaurant, Chris tells the contestants that they will partake in authentic Chinese cuisine. Anne Maria says that she can’t wait to eat some wontons, until Chris describes the food they’ll be eating, such as deep-fried grasshoppers, Kung Pao larvae — the grossest Chris can find, which makes Topher gag. Sugar then says that none of that sounds tough at all, so Topher turns to Sugar to help him eat these dishes, which Sugar happily accepts.
Along with the food being very gross, the contestants must sing a song during the challenge, “A Chinese Lesson”. Max is eliminated first when he believes that the donkey meat served was his friend Ace, Anne Mariais eliminated when she finishes her food last, and Staci is eliminated when she can’t finish a starfish before Scott.
To everyone’s dismay, one of Sugar, Scott, or Topher is guaranteed to win invincibility now. At this point, Anne Maria notices that Topher keeps ducking down under the table, and that Sugar always seems to have a never-ending plate, which means that Topher is giving his food to Sugar. To fix this, Chris puts mousetraps under the table to discourage moving under there. Topher says that this is ridiculous, and when he takes a mere whiff of the century egg on his plate, he pukes directly onto Sugar. Due to this, Sugar can’t handle the food anymore, puking as well. This once again grants Scott immunity, eliciting a chorus of groans.
Vote for two people besides Scott, vote for someone to be immune, and feel free to come up with any plot points!

PHO-SAC-WAS - Deni Avdija to the Kings, Davion to the Suns, and picks to the Wizards

Phoenix Suns

Incoming: Davion Mitchell
Outgoing: Nassir Little + 2024 #22 PHO first
Important Questions/Points:
  • Nassir Little has 3yrs/$21.75M left on his deal. (Spotrac)
  • Suns were previously interested in Davion. (Yahoo)
  • Suns are actively looking to combine their 2024 and/or 2031 picks with either Nassir Little or Jusuf Nurkic. (Evan Sidery Twitter) (The Athletic)
  • Thanks to 2nd apron, the Suns cannot take in more salary than they are sending out and also cannot combine other players salaries to get a player with a larger salary. This limits their player pool to players less than Nassir Little's $6.7M or Jusuf Nurkic's $18.125M.
  • Do the Suns want to trade their only big body center on the roster in Nurkic or lightly used Nassir Little?
  • Is Davion the best player making less $6.7M they can get with the #22 pick and Nassir Little? How much does the remaining 3y$21.75M of Little's contract decrease the value of this year's first round pick?

Sacramento Kings

Incoming: Deni Avdija + 2024 #22 first
Outgoing: Davion Mitchell + Chris Duarte + 2024 #13 first + 2027 top-5 protected first
Important Questions/Points:
  • Deni is 23-year-old 6'9" wing with an improved shot, good passing skills, and is an excellent rebounder for his size.
  • Deni averaged 14.7/7.2/3.8 (ppg/rpg/apg) with 37.4 3P% on 3 attempts including 17.1/8.9/3.9 after the all-star break.
  • Deni Avdija has 4y$55M remaining on his contract which descends and has an 13.75M average. (Spotrac)
  • Deni scored a career-high 43 points and had a season high 15 rebounds against the Pelicans last year.
  • What is the best player the Kings can get with this year's #13 pick, another first, and matching salary?
  • Does keeping Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes make a difference? Could they be flipped later?
  • What is the best return they can get for Davion Mitchell? Would they rather keep Davion and extend him?

Washington Wizards

Incoming: 2024 #13 SAC first + 2027 top-5 protected SAC first + Nassir Little + Chris Duarte
Outgoing: Deni Avdija
Important Questions/Points:
  • WAS is looking to acquire a 3rd first rounder in this year's draft. (USA Today)
  • Is two firsts including a lottery pick this year and a potential lottery pick in 2027 plus matching salary enough for Deni?
  • Chris Duarte is an expiring contract.
  • WAS has an outstanding pick to NYK that is top-10 protected next year and top-8 protected in 2026. It converts to 2 seconds if not conveyed in 2026. WAS does not want to convey that pick according to an Athletic article I read earlier this year. They plan on being bad the next 2-3 years.
  • WAS saves $2.9M this year and approximately $33M over the course the next 4 years.

NBA & NHL Playoffs Preview - 05/16/2024

⏰ 8:30 PM ET: Nuggets vs. Timberwolves

🏀 Game 6 (Denver Leads 3 - 2)

https://preview.redd.it/87ra63yuvu0d1.png?width=1456&format=png&auto=webp&s=fde34c9c29ebff758e2b4e506ca3c30d77cd666e
Tonight, the Minnesota Timberwolves find themselves in a must-win position to force game 7 after starting the series off 2-0 only to lose three straight games to the Nuggets. The Timberwolves were able to take the first two games thanks to their stellar defense that stifled much of the Nuggets offense, keeping them to only 99 and 80 points. In the following three games, the Nuggets found their offensive stride and averaged 115 points per game while the Wolves struggled to keep up with poor shooting from range.
Nikola Jokic has been the star of the Nuggets offense as usual, averaging 29.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG and 9.5 APG this series. He’s practically averaging a triple double every game. The Timberwolves need to slow the big man down somehow tonight or they’ll likely be facing the end of their season. The rest of the Denver squad has also been putting up offensive numbers and shooting quite well from the field in the past three games which helped them to win by a considerable margin. The Timberwolves on the other hand have failed to find consistently strong offensive performances from their man scorers as Anthony Edwards failed to reach 20 pts in two of their losses this series and KAT fell below his average as well.
I think the Timberwolves do still have a chance to come back in this series but it’s looking less and less likely now that they’ve lost a lot of momentum after three straight losses. They Wolves may generally be the top defensive squad in the league but that doesn’t matter if they can’t stop Jokic and stay out of foul trouble in this series. The Nuggets are defending champs for good reason, and I think their experience gives them the upper hand in game 6. I’ll take the Nuggets as underdogs tonight and the over as the Timberwolves need to turn around their scoring drought.
🔒 Best Pick: Nuggets Moneyline @ 2.17 + Over 204.5 @ 1.88

⏰ 10:00 PM ET: Oilers vs. Canucks

🏒 Game 5 (Series Tied 2 - 2)

https://preview.redd.it/bd3fbtptvu0d1.png?width=1456&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8856e1001d887107c35384ce25cf091f5593ee9
This Western Conference series has been nothing but back and forth so far as these two squads find themselves tied 2-2 coming into game 5. The series has been full of comebacks from multi-goal deficits with neither team winning a game by more than a 1 goal margin so far. Safe to say, there’s no telling quite yet who might come out of the series as winners.
The series returns to Vancouver tonight where both teams have taken one game, the Canucks in game 1 with a massive comeback from being down 4-1 late in the second period, and the Oilers with an OT winner to make it 4-3 in game 2. Both these teams have been facing goalie difficulties in the post-season, but the Oilers in particular have struggled to find the right fit consistently. They plan to put Pickard between the pipes tonight, who has only played one other game in the post-season. I think this choice bodes well for the Canucks, especially if the Oilers continue to lapse defensively for portions of a period as they have been doing so far this series. The Oilers did however put up a strong defensive effort last game which allowed them to keep the Canucks to only 2 goals, and they will certainly be looking to bring that energy to game 5.
At the current odds I think there’s definitely some value on the table in taking Canucks to win tonight. They are back home with the full force of their west-coast fans behind them and despite the Oilers offensive prowess they’ve proven to be incapable of closing the Canucks out completely even with a late lead. I also like the over tonight. The first three games of this series produced a total of 9, 7, and 7 goals in each, and with the amount of uncertainty around goalie performances, it makes sense to me to lean towards the over tonight.
🔒 Best pick: Canucks Moneyline @ 2.27 + Over 6.5 @ 2.07

Vivid, brave and propulsive, Vuong's poems contend with personal loss, the meaning of family, and the value of joy in a perennially fractured American spirit. The author of the critically acclaimed poetry collection Night Sky with Exit Wounds, winner of the 2016 Whiting Award, the 2017 T. S. Eliot Prize and a 2019 MacArthur fellow, Vuong writes directly to our humanity without losing sight of the current moment. 2024.05.16 14:54 DownTimeAtWerk Pittsburgh show this Saturday/barricade?

Hello!
So I'm going to my first ever GVF show this Saturday at the PPG Paints Arena and was wondering if anyone has some advice on what to expect or how early I should plan to arrive. It's going to be about a 5 hour drive for me and I am really hoping to get as close to the stage as possible. I've never been to this venue and am feeling kind of anxious about not knowing where to go or what to do when I get there (severe anxiety in general but am trying to push myself to attend events like this more often).
Does anyone have experience with this venue or know how early I would need to arrive based on other shows from this tour? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

2024.05.16 11:16 M0nKeys_h4ve-420 Any tips on moving base locations Quick and Fast as a lvl 30

I’ve been living in my little shack on the beach with 2 high level dilos, trike and an iguanodon and I plan on moving as soon as I unlock the saddle for my iguanodon. I plan to move to hidden lake soon with enough structures to make a little house and shed for my Dino’s. Does anyone have any tips for moving locations (I’m free to unlock engrams and tame dinosaurs).

2024.05.16 02:55 GoldWhale Ivan Demidov: The Debate for #2 that Never Should Have Been

Written by u/GoldWhale & u/JD397
Thanks everyone for your patience with us getting this written up. Much appreciation to my co-author u/JD397 for his work, scouting analysis, and comprehensive background knowledge on where Demidov sat compared to historical players, and the international analysis. Please note, this analysis won’t focus on why Demidov>Levshunov. In terms of BPA, Demidov is nearly unanimously over Levshunov based on consolidated rankings. With the Blackhawks publicly saying they want to go BPA, we hope to establish a case as to why Demidov truly stands above the rest, by a good margin. We hope that this was worth the wait, and we haven’t disappointed anyone who may have wanted more. We’re amateurs, give us a small break 😉
When Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly flipped the decisive card to reveal the number one overall pick, Blackhawks fans were disappointed. They were going to miss out on Macklin Celebrini, the consensus number one center and number one overall player in the draft. After winning Connor Bedard the prior year, many fans were hoping for a one two punch down the middle, their own version of McDavid and Draisaitl, Crosby and Malkin; this was not to be.
Despite the initial dismay, fans were still happy. The Blackhawks won the second lottery, and with that, the rights to select a franchise player at number two overall. Immediately, though, there was debate. Swirling on social media there were rumors that the Blackhawks were predominantly looking at two high end prospects: Ivan Demidov (RW/C) and Artyom Levshunov (D). On one hand Demidov is an elite prospect at wing with excellent hands, creativity, and legitimate top line wing with PPG+ upside. On the other, Levshunov is a dynamic offensive defenseman with a stellar shot, solid size, dynamic skating, and most importantly right-handedness.
The Blackhawks, realistically, need both positions. Last year the Blackhawks iced one of the worst offenses in the entire league, scoring the second least goals behind only San Jose. They also had the fourth worst defense, surrendering 290 goals on the season. Neither are acceptable in the push for a playoff spot in the coming years, but ultimately with number two, you can only choose one of the two players. After our hours of analysis, u/JD397 and I believe there is no debate – as good as Levshunov is, Demidov is closer in skill and projection to Celebrini than anyone else in the draft is to him.
So who is Ivan Demidov? He’s an 18 year old forward playing for SKA 1946, a MHL affiliate of SKA of the KHL. Since the 2023 draft the big story out of the KHL was the dominance of Matvei Michkov. This was a kid who destroyed the MHL by putting up 38 points in 22 games and going PPG+ in the playoffs his D-1 Year. Michkov then outperformed Connor Bedard by putting up 16 points in 7 games at the IIHF U18s in 2021. Michkov was, and still is, borderline generational but there was someone else waiting in his shadow. In his D-1 Year, Ivan Demidov put up 62 points in 41 games, and scored 1.3PPG in the MHL playoffs. While putting up a lower PPG pace than Michkov, Demidov’s game was substantially more well rounded and scouts started to take notice of another potential franchise winger in Ivan Demidov.
Demidov exploded in his D-0 Year, putting up a literal 2.0 PPG pace in the MHL the highest pace ever for a player 18 or under, and the third highest PPG in league history. In the playoffs, despite an injury, Demidov posted a ridiculous 28 points in 17 games. This production was unheard of beforehand and bested Kucherov’s 1.87 point pace at 18. Not only did Demidov have better production AND two way play, but he also did it nearly 7 months younger. Demidov remains a bright spot who is able to elevate his play to the competition. Before talking about playstyle, strengths, comps, projections, etc. it needs to be noted just how dominant Demidov was on the scoresheet.
Now that fans know who Ivan Demidov is, let’s address the elephant in the room. Demidov is Russian and with the political climate worldwide, being a Russian is associated with an inherent risk of a prospect not coming over. Rest assured – there is no such concern in this case. Last year, rumors swirled around Michkov not coming over due to three factors:
  1. Michkov did not meet with more than two teams and actively told specific teams he would not play for them.
  2. Michkov was incredibly difficult to get ahold of predraft and it made scouts and front offices skeptical on his character and desire to come to the NHL.
  3. Michkov had 3 more years left on his contract with SKA.
Demidov, on the other hand, is actively engaging with teams. He’s hosting a workout in Florida before the draft for multiple teams to attend, and is actively having his agent coordinate interviews and meetings with interested front offices. Demidov has publicly declared his intention to come over to the NHL as soon as possible, even venturing so far as to say he’s looking at options for getting out of his KHL contract to get to the NHL for the 24-25 season. Finally, Demidov only has 1 year left on his contract so there isn’t long term concern about losing the ability to develop him internally. An interesting note that we found during analysis was that Demidov’s agent, Dan Milstein, is “hated” in the KHL because of how consistently he pushes for his clients to leave Russia and transition them to the NHL. Even if Demidov is stuck in Russia all of next year, there’s almost zero risk he doesn’t come over.
On Demidov, the other large question that looms is his lack of play in the KHL, and SKA’s decision to play him in the MHL. Despite being the one of the best players in MHL history, Demidov only saw action in 4 KHL games and scored a total of 0 points which has also turned off many scoresheet watchers. Let us reassure you – Demidov was predominantly the 13th forward and played an average of 3-5 minutes per game with unfamiliar linemates. He did not have a chance to play enough to succeed, and built no chemistry with the teammates he was playing with in his limited time. SKA is notorious for handling their prospects poorly. Young players are consistently given limited ice time, especially when they’re expected to leave Russia. Michkov, despite his skill, couldn’t crack the SKA roster in his D-0 or D+1 simply because of this bias. All said, this is not a concern scouts have when it comes to the potential drafting of Demidov.
With the Russia question answered, we believe there is no doubt that Ivan Demidov is the pick to make in the 2024 draft. Ivan Demidov is really really good. He is the complete package for what you look for in a franchise winger. Demidov has excellent hands, dynamic edgework, elite hockey IQ, high end compete and energy, a relentless forecheck, creativity in the offense he provides, solid two way play, and finally rapid speed in terms of release and puck control. There is no one like him in this draft who offers such an elite skillset with no obvious flaws in his game outside of his build. He can also play center when needed which gives him additional offensive flexibility and adds even more dynamism to his game.
While analytics don’t tell the full story, they can often be a useful baseline to build from. The first item we want to call attention to is Byron Bader’s model, which projects Demidov as the best #2OA prospect since Eichel.. Let's again be clear, we don’t put much merit into this due to the low gradings of Carlsson and Laine, but it’s important to contextualize how Bader’s model works. It compares prospects to the league they’re in and projects them out. Demidov dominated the MHL to such a degree that the model favorably views him due to being almost untouched in play, and setting multiple records. Continuing with Hockey Prospecting and Bader, who is an active NHL draft consultant, they project Demidov to be an absolute STUD based on production. No forward who they’ve ever given 99%s to has ever been less than PPG+. Demidov has a very comparable offensive game to Celebrini, and is all but guaranteed to be a star due to his production and skillset. Alanen also projects Demidov to be elite in all 3 zones, and gives him a total RARE grade of 100, due to his next level offense and transition, and above average defensive work despite his assignments. Again, analytics aren’t an end all be all by any means. They’re just an exceptional base to build from when scouts, data scientists and NHL draft consultants unanimously believe a player to be elite. From our research, no prospects with comparable profiles have busted or not succeeded in the NHL.
Whilst reading multiple articles, watching videos on Demidov, and going through tape, we compiled the following scouting report.
Physical Attributes:
Demidov is not very physically imposing, or even one of the most physical players in the draft. He’s expected to show up to the combine around 6ft tall and weighing 170lbs. Admittedly one knock that some scouts have for him is his build and need to bulk up. Thankfully, this is easy to build at the professional level. Nonetheless, Demidov has sturdy base that enables him to dominate around the boards and in front of the net due to his rapid twitch movements and lower body power. Demidov is able to outskate and outwork larger and stronger players by being smart with his legs and driving to the inside consistently when in transition. His remarkable agility and lower-body strength allow him to outmaneuver opponents and maintain possession in tight spaces, or separate for quick attacks or desperation back checking.
Skating:
Demidov's skating is characterized by irregularities; while he exhibits great power on his edges, his transitions suffer due to a wide stance, leading to questionable but explosive pivot work. Despite this, his rapid acceleration and agility enable him to navigate through traffic seamlessly, while his powerful stride generates significant momentum, making him a constant threat in transition. Let’s clear up a misconception; Demidov is not a bad skater. He’s got decent speed, a good handle on body control, power on the inside of his edges and with quick crossovers, etc. His posture and stance need work, but this is something that looks completely fixable at the NHL level. It doesn’t require a rebuild of his skating style, rather a retool that can utilize his edgework as a base. Instead of hunching over at the end of a shift and losing speed and energy, Demidov can rely on quicker small movement cuts on for rapid movement and longer, albeit slower strides while holding himself higher to preserve energy while covering distance. While the 10 and 2 skating that Demidov employs isn’t conventional, it allows him to see a good deal of the ice, and when in close provide breaking speed towards the play. Fixing the reliance on 10 and 2 also offers faster top level skating and easier quick pivoting in a 200ft game, rather than a longer turn. Again, his skating is unorthodox – but it isn’t bad. It’s not mechanically sound, but it can be polished to a high level without a large amount of concern. Because of how unpredictable his skating is now, scouts across the board acknowledge that it potentially even grants an advantage as his body is harder to read.
Scoring Ability:
A natural sniper, Demidov possesses a lethal shot with pinpoint accuracy and a lightning-quick release that catches goaltenders off guard. Whether he's unleashing a blistering wrist shot from the slot or wiring a one-timer on the power play, Demidov consistently finds the back of the net with precision and finesse. One really underrated part of Demidov’s scoring ability comes from the aforementioned elite edgework. Due to how rapidly he can change directions while holding full control over the puck, he can create scoring lanes with almost zero room, and his accuracy is again one of the best we’ve evaluated as amateur scouts in the last few drafts. When there isn’t an immediate opening or shot, Demidov is patient, draws coverage where he wants, and again has no qualms about firing the puck to the net. If there’s one question about his ability to score, it’s his slapshot. He hasn’t had to use it in almost any occasion due to how the offense is structured on SKA 1946, and therefore it’s not as developed as his snap or wrister. This is a relatively minor knock, though. Demidov can take slapshots and find twine without much difficulty, it’s just the least refined part of his goalscoring ability.
Playmaking and Elite Hands:
Demidov has the best hands that we have scouted. Better than McDavid, better than Fantilli, better than Hughes, better than Bedard, better than Michkov, and yes, better than Patrick Kane as a prospect. Yep, that good. Hadi Kalakeche, one of Dobber’s lead scouts says, “…he has THE best handling skill I’ve seen… he’s the closest thing we’ve seen to Pavel Datsyuk since Pavel Datsyuk.” The rapidity of his movement, the purposeful puck placement, the astounding protection rate, and his ability to pull defenders off of him without moving his body is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Again, he has the most individual puck skill and innate offensive talent in the draft. These skills with his hands allow him to become an absolutely next level playmaker. Demidov is crafty, and has a history of faking shots to make a pass, or vice versa to help his team. He’s able to create lanes and take advantage of his puck control by having absolutely next level zone entry to set up the offense on a consistent basis. While his decision making needs some work when it comes to choosing the best move, he almost always makes the right one, and is able to think through solutions when there’s no apparent move forward. Whether it’s a drop pass, running the puck up the boards, a regroup, finding a teammate with a perfectly slotted pass, Demidov has no real ceiling. The only question remains is whether these skills will work as well at the next level. All said though, there’s no real debate between scouts that he’ll be a franchise winger.
Creativity and IQ:
Demidov is electrifying, brilliant, dynamic, innovative, transcendent, and any other adjective you want to use. There is no prospect in this draft with Demidov’s offensive upside, including Macklin Celebrini. As mentioned above, Demidov has been compared to Datsyuk: he is stellar at opening up lanes with his body or finding passes, even if they’re banked off the boards. While Bedard is a guy who was expected to shoot first, Demidov is a passer. This works in his favor, though. Demidov certainly doesn’t lack a scoring touch. His positioning and body will tell goalies and defenders he’s planning to pass and he’s able to quickly change direction using his edges to put a shot on net. His ability to think several steps ahead of the play allows him to execute highlight-reel passes and capitalize on scoring opportunities that others on his team might miss, or simply not have the skill to execute. He’s unpredictable because his vision is at such a high level. He’s got a game reminiscent of Jack Hughes and Patrick Kane, and the way he views the game has scouts absolutely over the moon about his pro projection. There really is nothing that Demidov doesn’t have the ability to do – this year in the MHL he took advantage of the strength of competition and tested it out. Demidov tried different reads, different styles, working more heavily down the middle, shooting, playdriving, etc. We’re blown away by the flexibility that he shows across every facet of the game. A really fun quote to mention from Lassi Alanen, EP’s director of Euro scouting is, “I still have like 100+ unused clips of Demidov's play from this season. He must be the most clippable prospect I've ever watched. Something eye-catching happening almost every shift during his second half of the season.” Demidov’s highlight reel isn’t really a “reel” – that’s just how he plays the game on most shifts that he takes.
Physicality and Defensive Awareness:
Demidov's physicality extends well beyond his height, as he isn't afraid to throw his weight (all 170lbs) around and engage in board battles to win possession. His defensive awareness is equally impressive, as he uses his size and reach to disrupt passing lanes and apply pressure on opposing forwards both in the defensive zone and in the neutral zone, showcasing a commitment to playing a complete, two-way game. As briefly mentioned, Demidov doesn’t exclusively play wing – he plays center too. While he’s not going to be Patrice Bergeron he is capable of handling both ends of the ice, and has consistently improved his defensive play throughout the year.
Work Ethic and Engagement:
While almost all prospects “work hard” to play their best on the ice, Demidov does that little bit more. Despite being a winger, he’s consistently one of the first players up and down the ice. He rarely coasts and drifts around but is engaged rather consistently all around the ice. One thing that’s often hard to teach prospects is how to be aggressive and assertive without being risky. Demidov never worries about challenging his opponents, fighting hard board battles, or giving his all to get back into a play after he’s low after driving to the net. This is something that the Blackhawks LOVE in their players, and should hopefully encourage GMKD to pull the trigger, if everything else didn’t sell him. As we see Demidov continue to improve in skating with NHL coaches, this should only give him more energy to expend in the 200ft game, and improve his engagement across plays. He’s an absolute workhorse, and consistently pushes to improve which evidenced by the massive improvement across this season in the MHL. There’s no reason to think this same drive can’t come through on the NHL level.
Areas to Improve and Questions:
With all the hype around Demidov, it’s hard to initially understand why he’s considered a lower end prospect than Celebrini. Digging in, though, it becomes more clear. While Demidov has the higher ceiling, he also has a much lower floor. The number one factor that limits Demidov is his exposure to higher end competition. The MHL is a good league, but Demidov was ready for the KHL last year. Since he wasn’t exposed to higher end competition there is still question on how much of his skillset will translate when playing higher level men’s hockey. There isn’t an expectation of a problem, but when a player lacks that experience, it undoubtedly makes them more challenging to project. Remember, Demidov didn’t really play meaningful KHL minutes when he got 4 games this year. He got 13th forward exposure and didn’t play with the same linemates that he worked with in the pre-season. Nonetheless, he wasn’t perfect. He did see some questionable decisions while trying to adapt to higher competition. There’s little concern that this is an actual issue, but Demidov needs to grow and play against men, even for a few games, before coming to the NHL. Thankfully, he should have the entire season in 2024-2025, and I haven’t read a single scouting report that expects him to have an issue putting up Michkov+ numbers.
The second factor is skating. Demidov is a good skater, but he’s unorthodox at best. While this skating relies heavily on his edgework which gives him amazing playmaking ability, his pivoting, high end speed, position and stride could all use refinement and improvement. While these are all skating mechanics that are easier to fix, skating is NOT a guarantee. If he’s unable to improve his skating with NHL skating coaches, it could limit his upside. He is still expected to be a top line winger, but it could be the difference between 70+ and 100+ points if skating doesn’t develop. Remember, some scouts view his skating as a “hidden” upside in his game, but improving skating not only gives him more offensive flexibility, but also defensively. There’s room for improvement, and it could be an easier lever to correct to see high rewards from.
The third factor is decision making. Demidov is creative to a fault, but just like in art, not every project works out. With such an advanced toolkit, Demidov needs to work with video coaches to better understand which moveset is appropriate in which scenario and when to deploy it. There’s a difference between decision making and IQ. Decision making is hard to fix when a prospect is set in their ways based on playstyle, but if playstyle is more flexible, then there’s much less of a concern. IQ, on the other hand is uncoachable, and Demidov has arguably the best offensive IQ in the draft. There’s no reason to believe that he can’t fix this, but due to being stuck abroad, and potentially even the MHL again next year, it could take him a bit longer to get up to NHL speed.
The final factor is defense. While it seems that every single forward prospect has a knock on their defense, we can qualify Demidov’s specifics a bit more easily. Demidov is a competent defender, and a very good well rounded player, but again decision making plays a factor in the challenge of projecting him here. While players like Celebrini are dominant both ways, Demidov often doesn’t make the right choice when defending – he has a lot of offensive instincts which have him sit higher on the blue, and while he is always engaged on the puck, he needs to be more responsible in coverage rotations. Off the rush, Demidov doesn’t always read the play correctly, and the inconsistency can create shooting lanes for his opponent. Just like Michkov, he can also cheat on plays where he finds himself a bit further away from a play and loses sight of his defensive assignment. He’s extremely energetic and consistently pushes to get back, but working with him on understanding when to cheat will be important for his development as well. We again want to reemphasize that Demidov plays solid defense and a good two way game, especially for a wingecenter. But there’s room for improvement in terms of bridging the gap between him and other recent prospects like Celebrini, Carlsson, and Johnston.
Pro Projection:
While he doesn’t have the skating that Jack Hughes had, he’s still a great projection and comparable. A smaller but nimble player who isn’t afraid to get involved on the rush, around the boards, or in transition. Demidov’s offensive upside is similar as well – like Hughes, the defense isn’t the best, but he’s able to run an entire offense both on the wing and playing center. He’s creative to a fault, has a great set of hands, and the toolkit to be a consistent top 5 player at his position in the NHL. Pro projections are always hard because you can never guarantee how a player will turn out, whether they’re undrafted or a #1OA, but Demidov is truly all but a sure thing. His creativity rivals players like Nikita Kucherov and Mitch Marner in their ability to think ahead of where the play is, his handling rivals Kane and Datysuk, his defensive play is above average for a winger, he has a great shot comparable to players like Matt Tkachuk, and is a bitch to get off the puck. Even when Demidov is literally on the ground, he’s consistently able to hold possession and find a play with no room left. With a toolkit like his, decent size at an estimated 6ft, there should be no reservations that Demidov should succeed at the next level. Most scouts see his floor around 65-70 points, and his ceiling closer to 120. I stand by the Jack Hughes comp I made earlier. While they differ in skating, they play very similar games, and should expect similar success at the next level.
Quotes:
“He’s got the best hands in the draft… and has made more one-on-one skill plays so far this season than almost any prospect I’ve scouted for any draft. He’s also a pretty engaged off-puck player who keeps his feet moving, hunts pucks on the forecheck, and can turn a steal into a game-breaking play in an instant.”
Scott Wheeler, The Athletic
“Demidov is already a game-breaking forward who can move the puck effortlessly and there’s no question he’d be a fantastic partner to some of the best prospects in the NHL today. His production in the MHL is comparable to Patrick Kane’s 2006-07 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights… Demidov is a bonafide first-line winger who will score tons of goals.”
Dayton Reimer, The Hockey Writers
“In a vacuum he’s the most talented forward this draft class has to offer outside of Celebrini. Demidov possesses many of the same traits Celebrini does, only his track record is against younger, more unproven talent."
Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet
“The talent of Demidov is impossible to deny. His raw skills might be the best in terms of offense in the entire draft. His puckhandling, shot, passing, and even skating makes him a unique hockey player and prospect. There are many great offensive players, but not many quite like Demidov. Especially who will also have a great drive and motor to play a strong 200 foot game… he could easily be a point per game player in the NHL on most teams first line.”
Frederik Frandsen, Last Word on Sports
“At the end of the day, what you get in a player like Ivan Demidov is a generational offensive dynamo with the mind of a master chess player. Each time he gains possession of the biscuit, his ability to think many steps ahead of the opponent, find creative solutions involving his puck handling abilities, as well as creating tremendous execution at creating space with his skating or precisely hitting the net is considered to be up to par at the NHL level.”
Tyler Ballesteros-Willard, Draft Prospects Hockey
“Any forward that has ever had the type of equivalency we’ve seen from Demidov in his pre-draft year and draft year, going back to the ’80s, has turned into a point-per-game-plus superstar over their careers… You need stars to compete and contend in the NHL, and Demidov is almost guaranteed to be that.”
Byron Bader, Hockey Prospecting
“Demidov is the most dynamic, verstatile, and creative [puck] handler we’ve seen come through the draft in recent years. Elements of his on-puck decision-making remain raw, but his upside as a 100-point top-line winger is supported by decent off-puck and defensive engagement and lightning-quick processing of the game. His elite-level of on-puck intelligence and his trifecta of dynamic handling, playmaking, and goalscoring tools give him the foundation to become an electrifying creative force and offensive driver.”
Sebastian High, Dobber
“Demidov breaks defences. He spots a tiny gap in coverage, bursts right through, and blows it open. He plays mostly a finesse game, but does so hyper-aggressively, attacking everything he can. Demidov succeeds at pulling off plays that most prospects can't. He plans, processes, and anticipates faster than he can stickhandle. He's a pure creator with the puck, making plays out of nothing.”
David St. Louis, Elite Prospects
“Demidov is the more dynamic and flashy prospect [Than Michkov].Demidov is the single-most gifted handler in the entire 2024 class. He projects to be the superior one-on-one attacker…someone who can single-handedly create out of thin air. When it comes to passing ability…Demidov’s ability to chain together handling sequences into following passing plays is second to none.”
Lassi Alanen, Elite Prospects
“It’s a no brainer[at #2OA]. It’s Ivan Demidov all day, every day, 24/7. You run to the stage and pick him… if you ask me, Ivan Demidov is better than Matvei Michkov… He’s the only prospect in our rankings who we gave a 10 grade to for a specific ability. It’s not just the handling skill in isolation it’s the creativity. He comes up with solutions no one can expect.. his motor is underrated, puts in work defensively… it’s a no brainer there.”
Hadi Kalakeche, Locked on NHL/Dobber
Our Scouting:
Clip 1:
As we talked about prior, Demidov has a great IQ and the ability to create lanes and plays out of nothing. Demidov pushes up the ice and enters the zone with pressure closing onto the side. He uses his hands to pull in control, but more impressively, puts his body between the defender and the puck. He uses his edgework and breaking speed to push past the defender, then is patient enough to draw 3 defenders towards him, away from his teammate. When he sees the trailing defenseman waiting, he immediately finds a tight pass for a wide open teammate to capitalize.
Clip 2:
There’s a difference between a safe move, and then there’s an insane move. Watch as Demidov comes up on the left side. He sees that the defender is getting desperate and goes for a large poke. Demidov slides the puck under the Dman’s stick and once again shows off his patience. Instead of going for a quick shot he reads that the other defender is slowly coming across the crease to prevent a passing lane. Instead of just shooting like most players, Demidov baits the goalie into thinking he’s going to run into the defenseman, and in that second, puts the puck in the net.
Clip 3:
Small play, but this is just about how slick his passing is. He slides the puck through a very tight lane while baiting the defenseman into sliding due to not knowing where the play is going to be.
Clip 4:
While we can put on nonstop highlights, it’s also important to see how smart Demidov’s game is. Demidov and the other SKA players move the puck around a bit trying to find an opening until they give it to Demidov. Demidov reads an open play and passes the puck down, but instead of immediately following the puck or staying at his spot, Demidov uses his high engagement to instead move to the other side of the net down low to offer accessory support for his teammates on his anticipated cross crease pass, should there have been a rebound.
Clip 5:
Not every highlight is going to be a goal. One really underrated part of Demidov’s game is how well he’s able to read the offense. As he holds high initially, he’s able to help move the puck out in order to reset the offense when the play fails. His motor keeps him in the play and with his excellent edges, he’s able to make a quick pivot after rushing around in order to step up and create an open shooting lane. While his teammate can’t make the pass to get the puck to him, Demidov read where the play WOULD be, not just where it was. Those IQ aspects really can’t be taught, and are part of what makes him so special. By anticipating the open play rather than following the puck, he establishes himself as a play driver by creating options rather just following and executing structure at a high level.
Clip 6:
We're not even going to analyze this one. It’s just fucking fun. Talent oozes.
Clip 7:
This video has a ton of highlights, which I’d definitely recommend watching, but we’re going to focus specifically on the play at 0:45. We can post clips of Demidov scoring goals, finding breakaways, etc. all day long, but when thinking about translation to the NHL, IQ and decision making is what we’re really drying to drill down on. Demidov arrives in the zone through to middle and pushes the initial F1 to the F3 spot and changes the rotation. The puck is dumped to him and the initial F1 leaves a drop pass for Demidov approaching the goal. As soon as Demidov gets the puck, at 0:47, you can see him primed and in a good shooting position. The bigger defender misread the play and has drifted too far towards the center of the ice, leaving Demidov with a nearly unobstructed shooting lane as the netfront defenseman is also too far toward the middle. Instead of taking the shot, he instead waits to draw over the netfront defenseman, and the bigger defenseman closer towards him, leaving his teammate literally untouched across the crease. Demidov trusts his hands and ability with an extremely quick and accurate pass through the stick range of three defenders to find his teammate wide open. His decision making has been progressively improving and his ability to look off the shot to find an elite pass will translate extremely well to the next level.
Clip 8:
Another play where you can just be excited about Demidov. The puck is wrapped up around the boards and the defenseman sitting at the top of the blue just pushes the puck back into the zone without a clear target, or a player who has an explicit opening to the puck. If anything, the puck is put in the middle of all 5 Karpat skaters. Despite starting on the outside, Demidov’s engagement shines through where he uses his edgework to get a rapid explosive burst of speed, and pushes through both defenders in front of him to gain possession. Once he gains possession, his ability to control the puck, and his handles help to demonstrate just how strong of a prospect Demidov is. Even when the defender is falling onto him, Demidov is patient, makes the netfront defender bite to believe he’s going wide, creating a lane (effectively bypassing 3 separate Karpat players) to get to the goalie unobstructed. Then, his hands come out and he absolutely undresses the netminder with moves that the video literally cannot fully capture. He makes highlights like this look routine, every single game.
Clip 9:
Sometimes when you see a play it’s hard to say anything but wow. Demidov leads the rush through the neutral zone and reads the coverage a much less conventional 1-4 scheme. The offensive rush is a bit unconventional as well, but can offer a smart solution. By having 3 attackers, two concentrated up the middle and one wide, it allows for quick movement up the middle, and post defensive collapse onto the puck, a pass to the outside for a clear entry lane and shot. Demidov passes to his teammate directly across the center of the ice as he expects that teammate to immediately get puck to their teammate on the outside as coverage collapses. Demidov gauges where the openings are pre pass, as evidenced by the head movement. Unfortunately, instead of immediately passing again to the outside for an open lane, his teammate runs into pressure, and panics. He passes back to Demidov who is less than 8ft away and will inevitably will run into immediate pressure as well. Somehow, this is no problem for Demidov. He collects the puck with the literal tip of his stick, uses his body push the defender off, and then pulls the puck in while facing the wrong direction to slip past the defender. Despite being placed in a no win situation his hands and creativity shine through and he creates a clean lane to shoot the puck at the net. It’s almost inhuman what he’s able to do with his hands. When he gets to the net, he’s patient, baits the goalie, pulls wide, and then puts in a clean backhand. Some of these highlights are literally awe-inspiring.
Closing Thoughts:
If this scouting report doesn’t get you excited for Demidov, we don’t think anything will. He’s truly the most electric player in the draft with absolutely ridiculous hands, compete, dynamic play, and highlight reel performance. His IQ is next level, and his hands allow him to do truly amazing things with his skillset and competency. Demidov’s vision is absurd; he consistently makes passes to his teammates without looking, or sends a pass before a teammate has a clean break by using anticipation. These RARELY lead to a turnovers and are often not only creative but unorthodox methods to continue to move the puck up ice. Although his skating is unorthodox, he’s explosive, able to create comprehensive offensive maneuvers due to quick transitions, and make off angle passes with ease due to his edgework. He is elite in transition and able to run a breakout, an offense, and play any of the F1/F2/F3 roles when the situation calls for it. Despite his expected size of “only” 6ft 170lbs, Demidov knows how to use his body and hands. He not only protects the puck on offense but can draw defenders away from his teammates in predictable patterns, once again opening up space for him to capitalize. The same goes for defense where he's able to use his positioning to get the edge on his opponents for a rapid takeaway or a box out off the rush.
As we mentioned earlier, Demidov’s game isn’t limited only to offense, he has a decent understanding of the two way game as well. He’s a relentless forechecker, aggressive on the boards, and also always willing to use his high running motor to jump back into a play that leaves the zone, even if he’s right next to the net. Demidov has the most skill and raw talent out of any player in this draft, including Celebrini. Had Demidov not been demoted to the MHL due to SKA’s poor management, there is almost no doubt that he would be considered nearly neck and neck with Celebrini. As it is now, Demidov is ranked #2 on most boards, and the overall #2 in the consolidated ranking. Demidovs don’t come around often; people last year were genuinely considering whether Michkov was at Bedard’s level. Demidov rivals Michkov if not exceeds him.
You can nitpick the analysis we have of any one single aspect of Demidov. Not everyone buys analytics. Not everyone buys playmaking in a lower league. Not everyone likes irregular skating. Not everyone is on board with the MHL stat sheet, our hype etc. etc. We get it. Really, we do. But at the end of the day, when you step back and appreciate the full body of work, the comps, the analytics, the rave scouting reports, unanimous love, models, stat sheets, skill, work ethic, and more that ALL say that this kid is elite, there’s fire beyond the smoke. Demidov is THE guy. There should not be a debate at #2.
For those of you who made it to the end, thanks for reading! Ultimately we know there will be inevitable debate about a prospect, but we appreciate you hearing us out, and at least letting me, u/GoldWhale, spam the sub over the last few weeks in love of Demidov. 2024.05.15 08:57 Shoddy_While_6142 How Did Moreyball and Advanced analytics contribute to the Three-Point Revolution of the 2010s

How Did Moreyball and Advanced analytics contribute to the Three-Point Revolution of the 2010s
Shooting a below league average 34% from three-point range results in more points scored per 100 possessions than shooting an extremely efficient 50% from closer two-point range shots (NBA League Averages – Per Game, Basketball Reference). This simple fact was the number one driving force in Daryl Morey’s basketball philosophy.
The three-point line was added to the NBA in the year 1979, during Larry Birds rookie season. He quickly took to the shot and added it to his scoring arsenal, and despite taking an extremely small number of three-point shots compared to the leagues current shooting pace, was the first three-point shooting pioneer (Starjacki, Basketball Network), The next evolution in the three-point shot was the shortening of the line to a uniform 22 feet throughout. This lasted from 1994-97 and resulted in the data graphed in Figure. 1 below.

Lozito, Nick. “Inside Stephen Curry's rise togreatness from beyond the arc.” 2021. San Francisco Chronicle, www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2021/curry-3-pointers/.
The NBA introduced this rule change to increase PPG throughout the league, as you can see, this change had an inverse effect (Burgess II, Red Bull). The rule was changed back, but it had a lasting effect, as players three-point conditioning improved, and coaches kept running plays focusing on three-point shooting. Figure 2, pictured below, shows how the number of three-point attempts per game continued to increase exponentially in the following seasons.
https://preview.redd.it/2dgjp2s0gj0d1.png?width=827&format=png&auto=webp&s=200b32d5a7271b8a173e73065e340034844eab92

Shea, Stephen. “The Three Point Revolution.” 2018. Shot Tracker, shottracker.com/articles/the-3-point-revolution.
One of those early coaches who prioritized shooting the three-ball was Mike D'Antoni. His trailblazing philosophy was known as the “Seven seconds or less offence” (Koch, 2adays News). This game plan was first introduced to the Phoenix Suns playbook in the 2004-2005 season following the addition of Steve Nash, a three-point sharpshooter (2004-05 Phoenix Suns Transactions, Basketball Reference). In the following season, their win rate went from 35,4% (2003-2004 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) to a league best 75,6% (2004-2005 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference). In a league era often referred to as the “Dead-Ball Era”, with defenses being the focus and league average PPG at an all-time low, this new, high pace offence broke defenses at the time. The Suns averaged 110,4 PPG during the 2004-05 season, while the league average at the time was 97,2 (2004-05 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference). The same trend can be seen with their pace, which was 96, while the league average at the time was 90 (2004-05 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference). Mike D'Antoni made the league realize that a higher pace offence prioritizing three pointers led to winning basketball.
But the three-point era could not truly begin until the dynasties of old were finished. The Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich led teams, prioritizing classic big man basketball and slow offensive pace were still winning championships, as were the Kobe and Pau Gasol led teams of the late 2000s (The 2000's - Kobe or Duncan Era, RealGM). Together the two low volume three-point teams accounted for 10 out of 15 championships won between 1999 to 2014 and 13 out of 15 finals appearances (NBA Champions by Year, Fox Sports). The Lakers and Spurs still experienced success due to the lack of experienced three-point shooters in the league, and the raw talent and star power of their rosters.
The GSW (Golden State Warriors) dynasty began following the dismantling of these teams due to retirement and trades. Following the Warriors drafting of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, two three-point shooting specialists who are cited as the two greatest shooters of all time, and hiring of coach Steve Kerr, one of the greatest three-point shooters of the 1990s, the team began seeing unprecedented success in a league-wide era of high parity (Olojede and Hay, Complex). The Warriors went from a team with a 35%-win rate (2011-2012 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) to a team with an 81,5%-win rate (2014-15 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference) in the span of 2 years, from 2012 to 2014. By the 2014-15 NBA Season, teams were more likely to shoot a three-point shot than a mid-range one, for the first time in league history (Shea, Shot Tracker).
During the 2015-16 season, the Warriors had the winningest NBA season of all time, having a 73 win and 9 loss record (2015-16 NBA Standings, Basketball Reference). This was the tipping point, and in the next 5 years three pointers attempted per game increased from around 19 to 30 (Fig. 2 above). Mike D'Antoni was still a vital centerpiece to this, as he coached James Harden who led the Houston Rockets. Harden is considered one of the 3 greatest shooters of all time (3PM All Time Leaders, NBA). Both the Warriors and Rockets achieved amazing success, with the Warriors winning 4 championships and making 6 finals in a 7-year span (NBA Champions by Year, Fox Sports). Daryl Morey, inventor of the Morey ball philosophy, was the GM of the Rockets at this time, and he created the three-point centric rosters built around sharpshooter James Harden (Ballard, Sports Illustrated). His Houston Rockets hired Mike D'Antoni to help build a strong offensive playbook built around three pointers, as he had previously proved his capability of doing on the Suns (O'Connor, Sports Illustrated). The D'Antoni Rockets completely avoided the mid-range shot, and under him they went from three pointers accounting for 1/3 of their shots to almost half (O'Connor, Sports Illustrated).
In today's league, three-point shooting dominates, with sharpshooters being highly valued and needed on any team looking to achieve legitimate title contention. During the 2023-2024 season, 37% of shots taken were from three-point range (Zillgitt, USA Today), and only 12% were taken from mid-range (Martin, NBA). This data clearly shows the impact analytics have had on the game, showing how data analysis led to the death of the mid-range. This graph below, compares three-point percentage and win rate percentage:
https://preview.redd.it/52d0ipz2gj0d1.png?width=752&format=png&auto=webp&s=3875dc274c9207a7eeec6f8b56bfcb3db483c2fe
Created by Author, Data from: (2023-2024 NBA Season Summary, Basketball Reference).
This data clearly shows that as a three-point percent increases, so does win rate, with very few outliers, none being extreme.
In conclusion, I have found that Daryl Morey, the GSW, and Mike D'Antoni were the main contributors towards the three-point revolution. D'Antoni was involved every step along the way and has been in the background of [almost every]() evolution in three pointers in the last 30 years. Morey ball had less of an impact then I previously thought, but Morey’s work on advanced analytics led to his aggressive pursual of James Harden and his eventual trading to the Rockets, as his philosophy led to him seeing his true value in the numbers before anyone else could. The Warriors proved that a team built around three-point shooting could experience unprecedented success in an era of all time high league wide parity and showed that a dynasty is still possible.

2024.05.12 23:41 GrandmainWA Semi-transparent water-based stain recommendations for a cedar fence.

I need to refresh the stain on our fence. HOA specifies semi-transparent in certain colors. I specify water-based, mostly because I abhor cleaning oil-based brushes. I originally stained the fence 7 years ago, with Sikkens, some oil-based, some accidentally water-based (purchasing mistake, by me!) I restained a bunch of the water-based stained fence 2 years ago (just did the exterior) with water-based PPG, and that worked fine and doesn't look bad, although I still am planning to refresh it this year.
I tested a board of the oil-based, 7 YO stained wood this morning and it took the PPG fine, except it sucked it up like it was dying of thirst.
Anyway, I can go with PPG again, but it's more expensive and has lousier ratings than Olympic or Ace stains. What would you professionals recommend?
Thanks for your help!

2024.05.08 18:35 taRxheel [WTS] Help me fund a grail!

Hello swappers! Recently secured a grail that I hadn't planned on acquiring, so I need to balance the books a bit. There's a little for everyone in this batch: maki-e, vintage flex, modern dazzle, and a really fun hooded Pelikan, all priced to move. Offers welcome but please be reasonable. Add $5 to all prices for priority shipping. I will give discounts and/or free shipping for purchase of multiple pens. PPG&S only, comment before DM/chat (I prefer chat), all sub rules apply!
Verification and writing samples - if you'd like more pics, just ask :) all writing samples were dipped in Waterman Tender Purple except the Well Brickwork, which was fully filled.
  1. Namiki Nippon Art Mt. Fuji & Wave: gorgeous maki-e work and the always-lovely Pilot/Namiki 14k gold nib in . [B] condition, comes with CON-70 but no box or papers. Asking $400. SOLD
  2. BENU Euphoria Vodka on the Rocks: possibly BENU's most recognizable pen, and one of their flashier materials. This one has a juicy steel nib that is great for shimmer inks or those with a drier flow. I'm going to call this [B] condition to be safe, but it's closer to A2. Comes with original box, papers, converter, and unused long international cartridge. Asking $120. SOLD
  3. Pelikan P1 Silvexa in bordeaux: really neat vintage Pelikan in [C] condition that just doesn't get the use it deserves from me. It's a piston-filler and has little portholes (!) for checking the ink level, but the kicker is the hooded (!!) (!!!) nib. Smooth with just a touch of feedback, line variation for days (seriously, check the writing sample), durable yet lightweight body - I'm talking myself out of selling as I'm writing this, so grab it before I change my mind ;). Asking $100. SOLD
  4. Waterman Carene: what else is there to say about this classic crowd-favorite? I bought it secondhand, so I'll call it [C] condition, but it's clearly not seen a lot of use in its life. The 18k gold nib is a true . Comes with original box and Waterman-branded converter. (Note: the converter has some stubborn blue ink stains I've been unable to get out, but they don't affect functionality. The previous owner inked it and then put it away without cleaning it out, grr.) Asking $150. SOLD
  5. Well Brickwork: super-cool vintage lever-filling pen from WWII-era Japan. Apart from the beautiful material, which has a slight chatoyance to it, what sets this baby apart is its stainless steel nib that is capable of giving many respectable vintage gold flex nibs a serious run for their money. Not exaggerating in the least - check the writing sample and the original listing from u/popcodswallop here. The feed has no problem keeping up with sustained flex writing. I've inked this once, but it's in remarkably good condition for its age - a solid [B] - and I will be sad to see it go. (Forgive the feathering in the writing sample, it's not typical of this pen. I've had that problem with many normally well-behaved inks/pens on this particular pad.) Asking $210. SOLD
As an added bonus, with each pen you may request one FREE sample of:
Thanks for stopping by!

2024.05.07 16:30 Serina_L How to Choose the Right Baby Stroller for Your Lifestyle

Welcome to our ultimate guide on choosing the perfect baby stroller for your lifestyle. As a parent, selecting the right baby stroller is an essential decision that can significantly impact your day-to-day activities. With countless options available in the market, ranging from the versatile Bentley 6-in-1 Baby Stroller to compact travel strollers, it can be overwhelming to pick the ideal fit for your needs.

Assess Your Lifestyle Needs

The first step in choosing the right baby stroller is to evaluate your lifestyle. Consider where you live, how you plan to use the stroller, and your daily activities. For urban dwellers, a lightweight and maneuverable stroller like the Bentley 6-in-1 Stroller may be ideal for navigating crowded streets and public transportation.

Types of Baby Strollers

1. Full-Size Strollers

Full-size strollers, such as the Venice Child Maverick Stroller, offer durability, comfort, and versatility. These strollers are suitable for everyday use, long walks, and various terrains. They often come with features like adjustable handlebars, multiple recline positions, and ample storage space.

2. Lightweight Strollers

Compact and easy to fold, lightweight strollers are perfect for on-the-go parents. These strollers are great for travel, quick trips to the store, or navigating tight spaces. While they may lack some features of full-size strollers, they are convenient for busy parents.

Key Features to Consider

1. Safety

When choosing a baby stroller, safety should be a top priority. Look for strollers with a sturdy frame, secure harness system, and reliable brake mechanism. The Bentley 6-in-1 Baby Stroller, for instance, comes with a five-point harness and lockable wheels for added safety.

2. Comfort

Your baby's comfort is crucial for a pleasant strolling experience. Opt for strollers with adjustable recline positions, padded seats, and ample canopy coverage to protect your little one from the elements. The Bentley 6-in-1 Stroller offers a plush, ergonomic design for maximum comfort.

Additional Considerations

Other factors to keep in mind when selecting a baby stroller include storage space, maneuverability, ease of cleaning, and compatibility with car seats. The Bentley 6-in-1 Baby Stroller, with its versatile design and innovative features, is a popular choice among parents looking for a premium stroller option.

Try Before You Buy

Before making a final decision, visit a baby store to test out different strollers. Push them around, fold and unfold them, and see how they fit into your car trunk. This hands-on experience will give you a better understanding of which stroller suits your lifestyle best.

Longevity and Adaptability

Consider the longevity and adaptability of the stroller. The Bentley 6-in-1 Baby Stroller, for example, can grow with your child, offering multiple configurations to accommodate different stages of development. Investing in a durable and versatile stroller can save you money in the long run.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right baby stroller is a personal decision that depends on your lifestyle, preferences, and budget. Whether you opt for the luxurious Bentley 6-in-1 Baby Stroller or a more compact model, prioritize safety, comfort, and functionality like Venice Child Maverick Stroller. By selecting a stroller that meets your needs and fits seamlessly into your daily routine, you can enjoy countless memorable strolls with your little one.

2024.05.07 01:21 Extreme-Border83 What's next in Rolleston?

Took the kids to the new skate park behind Te Ara Atea in the weekend. It looks SO MUCH nicer now the fence has come down, really nice space. Some really talented youngsters skating and biking for my kids to watch and there's a nice wee path our toddler could trike around. Really nice setup, grabbing our library books then going for a run around.
The playground could have been a bit larger and the toilets were locked are my only complaints. Cute moment some young teens jimmy'd open the toilet lock for my daughter when they saw her struggling with it.
This had me thinking, are there any other similar developments underway? I know there's plans for a huge park on Levi road which will be amazing, but a long way off. So what's next?
I see some construction is underway on Levi road, is that confirmed Pak N Save? Do we know if there'll be a mitre ten as well? Would love to get both, though the location choice seems poor.

2024.05.06 00:21 OkMirror2691 Machine Strike Pieces Don't Work

I know a lot of people hate machines trike here, but I actually like it. I went and I put together a board and I was using the wide maw piece with the behemoth. My plan was to pull them into bad terrain and then shoot at them with the ranged piece. But pull just doesn't work. It is completely random on weather it knocks them back, Pulls them, or does nothing. I had one game where the enemy also had a widemaw. Both the same piece on the same elevation. Mine attacked and it did not pull. His attacked and it pulled. It is very frustrating when an already mass disliked game mode doesn't even work as intended. Many probably don't even notice because they didn't like it and hence didn't learn the rules.

Dom/JD, A-Town Down Under, Myztezis/Artemis, Awesome Truth, Thee Prime, Nese/Daivari and Myers/Edwards - 8 Team Tag Team Championship Gauntlet
Thee Prime start out with Nese and Daivari to start the match. Its a back and forth battle as Thee Prime focus in on High-Flying Ability while Nese and Daivari use a slower technical strategy. In the end Adonis goes for a 450 splash when Nese gets his legs up and then converts into a guillotine. Cedric tries to help but is intercepted by Daivari hitting a flying elbow. Adonis has no choice but to tap out. Nese and Daivari stand tall as the next entrance comes out.. Its Awesome Truth! Truth raps his way down to the ring and as soon as they are in the ring Miz starts going crazy attacking both Nese and Daivari. Truth eventually tags in and looks to hit the Attitude Adjustment but doesnt realize Daivari tagged in. Daivari hops off the apron and attacks Miz sending him through the table. Meanwhile in the ring Truth nails the AA and sets up for the 5 knuckle shuffle. Out of nowhere hes hit with a Flying Elbow. Daivari tags out and the Premiere Athletes work together to hit a Double Moonsault. Nese goes for the pin and gets the 3. At this point Nese and Daivari are winded as Myztezis and Artemis come out. The highflying ability of the 2 luchadores proves to be hard to handle as the Premier Athletes find themselves struggling. However out of nowhere one last ditch effort from Nese to hit Artemis with an uppercut lands. Nese and Artemis both get hot tags and Daivari begins rolling with Shoulder Tackles. Then Daivari hits the Flying Elbow and then a Moonsault going for the pin and getting a 3! The Premier Athletes catch their breath as The Judgement Day's Dom and JD come out. Dom seems cool and collected as he quickly takes control of the match. But somehow the moment he tags in JD things get messed up as Daivari catches JD in an arm drag followed by a knee to the head. Nese takes care of Dom and then the 2 do a double moonsault. Daivari pins JD for the 3! The Premier Athletes have already taken out most of the competition. There are only 2 teams left.. And the next one they are faced with just sided with MJF.. A-Town Down Under make their way to the ring. Out of nowhere Myztezis and Artemis lunge at them. The Air Riders own luchadores begin to attack A-Town Down Under, presumably getting revenge for their friend Vikingo. Referees eventually separate the 2 teams and pull the Air Riders backstage. A-Town Down hobble into the ring as the 2 teams get ready to go. Its still a pretty good match as both teams make an attempt to put eachother over in a great match. In the end Grayson goes for a Rolling Stunner when Nese catches him in the guillotine. Before Theory can get involved, Daivari comes in with a flying elbow. Grayson has no choice but to tap out. The Premiere Athletes have had a great run in this Gauntlet.. But now there is only one team left. Myers and Edwards come out clapping for the Premiere Athletes as they cautiously enter the ring. Nese and Brian circle eachother. NYWC chants are made as love for these guys origins are made well known. Nese takes the first swing mad at Brian for their stories past. Brian side steps it and hits a neck breaker. Brian laughs at Daivari when Nese hits him in the back with a look of rage in his eyes. Brian forces Nese to his feat and goes for a Roster Cut connecting. Myers climbs the turnbuckle when Nese gets to his feet and meets him up there. Nese grabs Myers and brings him down with a Superplex! Both men are down as their tag partners call for the tag. The crowd is chanting "This is Awesome" as it plays out. Nese and Myers tag out at the same time and Daivari/Edwards go back and forth in a flurry of blows. Daivari takes advantage with a shoulder tackle followed by a flying Elbow. 2024.05.04 15:42 TAA222222 Fan from the UK - best way to see the team play

Hello All,
I've been a Penguins fan for around 15 years now which started when I randomly decided to start watching hockey clips on Youtube. Since then I've always kept up with the Pens as best I can and in recent years the TV deals have meant I've been able to watch more and more of the team play from the UK, but I've never managed to get out and watch a game. Last year I visited Boston and got to see a couple of Bruins games and it really made me think how much of a shame it would be if I never got out to see Malkin / Crosby / Tanger play in person.
With all of that said, I'm trying to plan a trip to North America next year that will let me watch at least one (hopefully a couple) of Pens games. Most obvious choice would be to go to Pittsburgh for a week when there are consecutive home games, second choice would be to visit NYC / East and catch maybe a combo of Islanders / Rangers / Devils / Caps / Flyers / Boston away game or two, third would be to head out West for maybe Ducks / Kings away, lastly I wouldn't mind going to Canada (Ottawa / Montreal / Leafs) + Sabres? Calgary / Edmonton?
If I'm honest, Pittsburgh isn't exactly known as a big tourist spot in the UK so not sure how much there would be to do there other than watch the Hockey, so I am leaning towards away games. I also have friends in Cali / NYC so those might be preferred options.
Couple of questions: In terms of getting tickets for games at PPG, are they fairly easy to come by? Presume for games against teams like Ducks / Sharks / Jets it's a bit easier than against the Flyers / Rangers but in general would I be able to pick up tickets quite short notice? In terms of price, what do tickets normally run (Happy to sit anywhere so a range would be appreciated but I might like to splurge on some seats close to ice since this is realistically a once in a life time chance to see the core play).
Obviously the choice of away games will depend on what the schedule for 24/25 actually looks like, when would this normally be released?
Lastly, if you had a choice is there a particular set of away games from those listed above that you would do?
Sorry for the many questions and thanks in advance.
EDIT: For clarity, I mean for the next season i.e. the 24/25 regular season.

Too good to be true? (First bike/Trike)
Hello all! New here. I’m getting my first ever bike at 28 and decided on getting a trike due to the added safety and eliminated risk of dropping it. I also plan on driving it long distances, and I heard trikes were more comfortable doing that.
Anyway, I found this trike on Facebook marketplace. The sellers are selling this converted 2007 Honda VTX for 8k & claim it only has 9.9k miles.. The sellers are an old, elderly couple. The wife of the seller claims that she can’t ride the bike due to health issues, & her husband already has a bike and doesn’t want to ride the trike. They also claim that they bought it from a dealership and that it had 1 previous owner whose wife didn’t want the husband riding it anymore, thereby making him sell it to the dealership as a trade-in for something else, I believe.
Is this too good to be true?? A 14 year old bike with less than 10k miles selling for 8k?? That’s an average of riding 707 miles a year.. Basically nothing.. If I go to check it out, what questions should I ask and what should I look for (inspect?). I already called the seller on the phone and he asked immediately.
Here was the video they posted on the bike. Any initial thoughts/red flags?

2024.05.03 21:53 Craig_Dubya E-trikes…Surviving Summer

E-trikes…Surviving Summer
Like many e-trikers, you probably rejoice as winter begins to melt away, closely followed by spring and summer. The return of warmer weather signals the coming of that time of year when e-trike usage is often at is highest level.
Sure, you can ride almost any time of year, but there’s something about summer that appeals to most cyclists. Blue skies, warm temperatures, and dry trails make for some of the best riding conditions. Before you embark on this long-awaited season of extra time on your e-trike, consider preparing for the season of heavier usage.
Preparation for Summer Cycling
It is surmised that John Wesley originated the saying “cleanliness is next to godliness.” Regardless, it is certainly true that a frequently cleaned trike is a longer-lasting, more efficient, and safer trike.
Getting it Clean
If you store your battery on your e-trike (usually not a good idea), remove it before cleaning. Use a soft brush to remove any dust and light grime that may have accumulated. Then take a slightly damp cloth and wipe it off thoroughly. Never apply running water or spray liquids directly to your battery.
While cleaning your battery, take a close look for any tell-tale signs of corrosion on the electrical contacts (terminals). If you see corrosion, usually green, use a stiff toothbrush to remove as much as possible. Now check the charge level and, if needed, recharge your battery. During charging, check to ensure that the battery gets only warm to the touch, not hot. If hot, consider whether it may be time to replace your battery.
After cleaning the battery, you can tend to your e-trike while the battery gets a fresh charge.
  • Tires — Wipe the grime off your sidewalls, and check for excessive tread wear or cracking sidewalls. If you find either condition, it is time to replace your tires. Otherwise, let them dry and then apply a good tire protectant. While your at it, be sure to bring the air pressure up to your preference, within recommended parameters for you riding conditions.
  • Rotors — Use a soft rag dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean your disc brake rotors. This will give you the best braking performance and will not leave any residue on your rotors.
  • Chain — Wipe any grime or excess lubricant from your chain, using a dry cloth. Then lubricate the chain using a good quality chain lubricant. Again, wipe off any excess lubricant so that your chain does not become a dirt magnet.
  • Frame, pedals, components — Use a soft brush, followed by a damp soft rag, to clean the various components and frame. Never use running water or spray liquids to assist with your cleaning. You don’t want to risk getting dampness into places where it will not be welcome.
Making it Tight
Check every screw, nut, bolt, etc. and ensure that all are tightened properly. Consult your owner’s manual for torque specifications, and use a torque wrench to avoid risking over or under tightening.
Err on the Side of Safety
In the process of inspecting and cleaning your e-trike, it is possible that you may discover problems. If you encounter anything that you cannot confidently handle yourself, it’s time to visit your local bike shop. Don’t take any chances — make sure your e-trike is safe to ride, and prepared to last for many more years.
Precautions for Summer Riding
No matter where you live, one or more of the following precautions will apply to you.
  • Avoid Unusual Outdoor Heat — You may live in a climate that sometimes produces heat in the extreme. If the weather forecast calls for temperatures in excess of 102 degrees F, wait for a cooler day. Excessive heat is hard on your battery and motor, and other electronics. It’s hard on your body, as well, so use an abundance of caution. Be aware that your e-trike may be equipped with a heat sensor, designed to shut down if damaging temperatures are detected. If this happens to you, don’t be alarmed. Just find a shady spot and allow your e-trike to cool. When it has cooled sufficiently, it should be ready to ride again.
  • Take Care of Your Battery — Regardless of its age, batteries are not fond of high heat. It is best to never expose it to direct sunlight in hot weather for more than an hour. After an hour of hot exposure, give it a rest in the shade. Also, your battery needs to cool before you begin another charging cycle. The best practice is to allow an hour of indoor cooling before you connect to your charger.
  • Traveling with Your E-trike — Summer is a great time for travel, whether visiting friends and loved ones, camping, or sightseeing. And of course, many e-trike enthusiasts love to bring along their favorite ride, adding a healthy activity to the pleasure of the trip. If your trike is loaded outside of your vehicle (trailer or rack), plan to remove your battery while traveling. This will make your e-trike lighter and easier to load, and keep your battery better protected while traveling.
  • Cruising the Beaches — If you are so fortunate as to live near the beaches, or within convenient traveling distance, beach cruising is great fun. The downside is that it brings on some extra maintenance. Salt water inevitably is carried via the air, and some of it will be deposited on your e-trike. Not only is salt a great electrical conductor, but it also is a highly corrosive substance. Definitely it cannot be permitted to stay on your e-bike! Every time you ride the beaches, it is necessary to repeat the general cleaning instructions given above for the battery, frame, chain, and components.
Have a great summer, and ride safely, and take good care of your beautiful e-trike! If you are shopping for a great e-trike, Click here for the Mooncool sale and use the coupon code CRAIG100 for an additional $100 discount.

2024.05.03 19:29 4inthefoxden AITAH for donating my kids bikes and not teaching them to ride them?

I have two kids (6 and almost 2) and I haven't given them tricycles or bikes and don't plan to, and my extended family seems to think that is some kind of neglect and have accused me of "robbing them of childhood experiences".
My kids have been given hand-me-down trikes and bikes from family members for holidays over the years, but my kids showed no interest in them. I don't know how to ride a bike due to lifelong disabilities, so I don't have a bike to ride with them or show them how to ride, so I also can't really teach them how to. Besides this, we live in the mountains on a gravel road, and there's no real space for kids to learn how to ride bikes safely.
When we've tried to get them to play with the bikes and tricycles, they literally didn't care, they weren't interested in riding them at all. My youngest sat on a tricycle for a minute but didn't want to pedal it when we tried to encourage her, and quickly got up to go do something else in the yard. So the bikes and tricycles just ended up taking up space in our shed until they started gathering spiderwebs, dirt, and dust. We cleaned out the shed and the kids didn't bat an eye about the bikes, they didn't want them, so they went to the donation pile.
When my family found out I donated these old bikes and tricycles,, they said that I was being abusive or neglectful, that "all kids have bikes and all kids know how to ride a bike unless they have bad parents". They said that it's "part of being a kid" and that I should have found someone who does have a bike and knows how to ride one and that we should have taken the kids and the bikes to a park or something to teach them how to ride them, but that's not really possible for us for multiple reasons (we're new to the area and don't know anyone, our car is small and couldn't fit the bikes without putting down the seats and taking the car seats out, ect).
Even when I pointed out that my kids are both disabled in different ways (my oldest is autistic and my youngest has joint problems in her legs and is bow-legged) and might not be cognitively or physically ready for bike or tricycles, they said that I should make them try it anyway because it could supposedly help their disabilities, but I pointed out that I had severe injuries as a kid because my knees couldn't handle pedaling a tricycle, which was met with accusations of my doctors and parents just being "bad people".
Personally I don't understand why people are so upset and saying that I'm a horrible parent for donating bikes and trikes that my kids aren't interested in, and I don't understand (as someone who never rode a bike) why people are acting like I'm destroying their childhoods by not prioritizing them riding bikes or tricycles. I understand that biking can be a good form of transportation for kids who can't drive yet, but my kids aren't old enough to go anywhere alone.
I also don't want my daughter to get injured because of her knee and hip problems, which are due to the same genetic condition that made me unable to safely ride a bike as a kid. She's already being considered for leg braces and I don't want her to have more health problems, even if people who aren't familiar with this genetic condition insisting that riding a tricycle or training bike would somehow be like "physical therapy".
I just see the bikes and tricycles as toys they don't use, not something essential for their well-being, like my family is trying to say. I think that making sure my kids are safe and ready before they learn to ride a bike is important, and I don't think they're ready.
AITA for donating gifted bikes and tricycles and not trying harder to teach them to ride them?
