2024.06.02 10:31 Wo0den_h0rse Sitcoms are not funny.

Maybe it’s just me, but when I see tons of memes and quotes from popular sitcoms(friends/the office/big bang theory/family guy) or catch it airing on Tv 24/7 when I stay at the hotel and turn on the TV, I ask myself “why is this even popular”. Not trying to say I’m a special snowlfake or don’t like humor, however the format of sitcoms makes me feel sick. Usually it has slow moving plot or no plot at all, just the pack of random comedy scenes or phrases. I believe the funniset joke or comedic scene happens when you don’t expect it, not when the show is all about it.

2024.06.02 10:02 Ashen_Shroom Guidelines for Lore Posts

This list of guidelines is intended to facilitate more insightful and engaging discussions about the lore of Elden Ring. Following these guidelines should help to maintain the quality of discussion in this community.

Evidence

Due to the oblique nature of Elden Ring's storytelling, there are many different ways to interpret the information that the game conveys. However, it is expected that the core components of your theory are grounded within the game. In-game text including item descriptions, dialogue, sword monuments, and anything written into the game by the developers qualifies as primary evidence. Visual details/environmental storytelling accounts for a not-insignificant portion of Fromsoftware's storytelling. This includes in-game statues, murals, enemy and item placements, and visuals. However, by nature these details can be interpreted in an uncountable number of different ways. Therefore, visual details are best used as secondary evidence. Please try and base your theories around the text, with visual details as supporting evidence. If the subject of the theory is itself a visual detail (e.g. discussing the identity of a statue or speculating about why something looks a specific way), please try to include textual evidence to support your conclusion. If you don't have evidence to cover everything, that's fine- it's the nature of the game- but please be conscious of when your theory contains large gaps and do your best to fill them without large amounts of baseless speculation. Additionally, please try to make the evidence as specific to the conclusion as possible, and ensure that the evidence points specifically to the thing you're trying to prove.

Fact vs Theory

As mentioned in the previous point, the story can be interpreted in many different ways. The game itself serves as the baseline, and anything that does not come directly from the game or another canon source (see the next section) is speculation. Please do not present your speculation as fact or treat it as given knowledge. If it is not written in the game, it is not confirmed. Please make it clear when you are presenting a fact or a theory.
Examples:
Fact: Godwyn was a Demigod
Theory: Godwyn was the eldest child of Queen Marika
Conclusions derived from two or more facts also qualify as facts. Example:
Fact: Morgott is a member of the Golden Lineage
Fact: The Golden Lineage began with Godfrey
Conclusion: Morgott is a descendant or offspring of Godfrey
There may be instances where one piece of text contradicts another (the infamous "First Elden Lord" discrepancy). In instances such as this, the text is subject to scrutiny and it may be necessary to pick one statement over another. However, the existence of such instances is not an invitation to dismiss the rest of the text out of hand. If your claim is that a piece of text is false, please provide evidence that specifically points to that. One piece of text being false does not mean that another, unrelated piece of text is also false. Similarly, the game may used language such as "it is believed" or "it is said". Anything after this type of phrase has the potential to be in-universe hearsay, however, the use of the phrase does not automatically make it false- again, if you believe the text to be false please provide evidence for it being false.

Canon

The following is a breakdown of sources in order of canonicity:
1. The game
The game makes up the primary canon. A statement from the game can only be contested by another statement from the game. The story trailers for the base game and the expansion should also be considered primary evidence, as their purpose is to clarify aspects of the story.
2. Developer statements
This includes interviews and any comments made by Hidetaka Miyazaki or other members of Fromsoftware. As certain things change during development, it is plausible that certain statements might be rendered outdated by the final game. Developer statements should therefore only be considered non-canon if the game's text outright contradicts them.
3. George RR Martin
GRRM wrote the initial draft for the game's plot, and therefore much of the lore likely came from him originally. However, as his involvement ended years before the game was finalised (as he stated in this blog post), it is impossible to know exactly how close the final product hews to his original draft.
4. Promotional materials
This includes taglines, promotional text from Bandai Namco, official guides, and any ancillary materials. These can be taken as canon unless contradicted by the game or the developers, but use your best judgement.
5. Unused/meta content
This includes unused items, NPCs, item descriptions, dialogue, and miscellaneous text found in the game's files, information that only exists in previous builds of the game, internal names and IDs, and generally anything that cannot be found in regular gameplay, "Cut content" and internal names can be incredibly useful when gauging the developers' intentions, and can help us understand what they were going for, however it is not always possible to assess why the content was cut, or what purpose those internal names serve. Feel free to bring up and discuss this type of content, but make sure that your theory is grounded in information that can be acquired from the playable build of the game.
6. Everything else
Enough said. This includes other games by Fromsoftware- comparisons are encouraged, but should not be considered canon.

Japanese vs English

Fromsoftware is a Japanese developer, and as such the text is written in Japanese first and localised into other languages later, by companies like FrogNation. This is muddled somewhat in the case of Elden Ring by the fact that the initial draft was created by George RR Martin, an English speaker, as well as by the fact that the dialogue for all regional versions of the game is spoken in English, despite the script being written in Japanese first. Due to the fundamental differences between Japanese and English, there are certain possible discrepancies between the two versions. Naturally, this leads to much debate about how accurate the English localisation is. This is an English-language subreddit, and nobody is expected to know Japanese, however it can be helpful to compare the English text to the Japanese in order to resolve certain ambiguities or discrepancies. However, the existence of discrepancies does not mean the localisation should be treated as completely wrong- FrogNation has a long professional history with Fromsoftware, and Fromsoftware evidently trusts them to interpret their stories. Please feel free to point out instances where the Japanese text conveys a completely different meaning to the English, or where one version is more or less ambiguous than the other, but do not try to present your own translation as more accurate than the official one. If a team of professionals is capable of making mistakes then so is a fan with proficiency in Japanese.
The Elden Ring Fandom Wiki contains English and Japanese options for many item descriptions and most dialogue, extracted from the game. The Elden Ring Text Explorer by u/tavoe is also a very useful resource for quickly finding English and Japanese text.

Debating

Debate and discourse are encouraged in this subreddit. If you present a theory or conclusion of any kind, either as a post or a comment, you are opening it up to scrutiny and disagreement, so please make sure you are willing to back your theory up (see the section on Evidence). That said, whether you are presenting a theory or countering one, please conduct yourself civilly. Do not get overly defensive of your theory, and do not deride those who hold different opinions. Conduct yourselves civilly and calmly, and know when the debate has run its course. At the end of the day, we're all here because of our shared appreciation of Elden Ring and its story, so there is no need to resort to ad-hominem or name-calling.

My hope is that if we all follow the above, we can maintain the quality of discussion in this community and keep hostility down. Obviously please also follow the subreddit rules, and we can all have a good time.

2024.06.02 09:55 AdInteresting2401 Sick through meditation? - German media

For some, intensive meditation can cause mental suffering. The predominantly positive image of meditation makes it difficult for those affected to be heard in the event of side effects, as SWR research shows.
By Linda Huber, SWR
Millions of people in Germany meditate regularly. The offerings range from apps and online courses to meditation in studios and multi-day retreats. According to a Statista Consumer Survey, almost one in four people between the ages of 18 and 64 have a meditation app on their cell phone. A Buddhist tradition has long since become a mass phenomenon and the market for mindfulness is booming, with meditation often being praised as a cure for stress and mental health problems. However, recent scientific studies show that intensive meditation can also trigger serious psychological side effects. This side effect is often ignored or trivialized, as research by the investigative format Vollbild revealed.
One in ten meditators suffers from side effects
In a ten-year long-term study, US psychologist Willoughby Britton from Brown University was able to prove that around one in ten meditators develop side effects that severely restrict them in their everyday life. According to Britton, anxiety, traumatic flashbacks and hypersensitivity are the most common side effects of meditation. German studies also point to undesirable side effects of meditation: a study by a working group at Charité Berlin found that a total of 22 percent of 1,397 meditating test subjects had undesirable effects. Of these, around nine percent were classified as mild and temporary, while 13 percent had moderate to extreme adverse effects that required treatment, were permanent or even required hospitalization.
Negative effects often underestimated
Research on meditation over the past 20 years has mostly shown positive effects such as the reduction of stress or depression. Psychologist Britton criticizes the research on contemplative practices and points out that the negative effects of meditation are often underestimated.
In Germany, the first contact point for victims of meditation side effects has been open for two years at the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Hygiene in Freiburg. Psychologists Ulrich Ott and Liane Hofmann set up the contact point. They report that the consultation hours are already very popular and that the level of suffering of many of those affected is high. The psychologists suspect a high number of unreported cases and assume that there is a great need for counseling in Germany.
Panic attacks, hospitalization, suicide after meditation
Fullscreen has spoken to several people who have developed severe psychological problems after intensive meditation and had to be treated in a clinic. A 26-year-old student from Wiesbaden describes how he developed panic attacks after intensive meditation with an app and had to be treated in a clinic. A 28-year-old doctoral student from Düsseldorf reports that she developed delusions after an intensive retreat and had to be hospitalized, while a particularly drastic case from Canada shows extreme consequences: A young woman left a ten-day meditation retreat early and took her own life. Her mother reports that her daughter already felt unwell during the retreat. When asked, the meditation center explained that it was deeply saddened by the tragic incident. Teachers are trained to recognize signs of mental imbalance, and students are not asked to continue meditating if they are in distress.
Responsibility seen in meditators
The predominantly positive image of meditation often means that those affected have difficulty being heard and understood when side effects occur, and that providers often see meditators as being responsible.
US researcher Britton also observes this: "Blaming the victim is probably the most common reaction. It comes in many different varieties." It is often said that the person has already brought the problems with them. The retreat or the provider are therefore not responsible. Or the person has meditated incorrectly. "The normal meditation teacher wants to be helpful, and then to hear that you have caused harm is a very difficult kind of feedback," says Britton.
The psychologists Ott and Hofmann criticize the fact that meditation providers often deny responsibility for possible side effects: "It is of course also the responsibility of the providers to check in advance whether the people are mentally healthy, whether they are stable and not to deny all responsibility with such a disclaimer," says Ott. However, the offers often state: "Participation at your own risk. This clearly places the responsibility on the participants," says Ott.
No mandatory training, no monitoring
How little attention is paid to risks is also shown by an undercover investigation: in a self-experiment, Vollbild asked around 20 meditation providers for a course and stated that the supposed interested party had mental health problems. Only a few advised her to consult a doctor or therapist beforehand. The providers' websites did not provide any information on the risks and side effects of meditation in advance. In Germany, there is the Association of Mindfulness Teachers with eight training institutes and around 1,000 mindfulness teachers. According to full-screen research, undesirable side effects of meditation are an issue in training here. However, the training is voluntary. Anyone who wants to can offer meditation. There are no controls. This is another reason why many meditation teachers are apparently overwhelmed by the psychological damage and side effects of meditation.

Comments to the video:
"The fact that meditation or Buddhist practice in general (not just sitting) has dark sides has always been described. In Buddhist sutras, entire texts are dedicated to the spiritual decline of some practitioners. In Zen, "meditation sickness" is a well-known term, as is "lung" in Tibetan Buddhism. Various studies prove that there are often psychological problems, especially during intensive meditation sessions. For example, one psychologist describes that deprivatized sitting without movement can stress the neurons to such an extent that psychosis-like states can be reached. If you need help or would like more information on the possible symptoms and side effects (based on scientific data), please visit Cheetah House, they can also help those affected. What Micki describes at the beginning is also something that I consider extremely dangerous, if any teacher says to you "you have to go through this", then you should distance yourself as quickly as possible. Meditation should never be associated with thoughts of self-optimization or the desire for eternal happiness, in Zen they say "Zen brings nothing", or you could say, seek neither happiness nor unhappiness, only in this way can an authentic path be realized, with in my opinion clearly more serenity. Unfortunately, it is not without reason that many practitioners have been saying for a long time that 80 percent of Buddhist offerings are not authentic. Just look at the charlatans who serve as role models these days: Hinnerk Polenski, Shi Heng Yi, Zensho W Kopp... All people who are self-proclaimed masters."
"Shi Heng Yi has never studied Shaolin Buddhism, but has a martial arts master title under an American, yet the Otterberg Temple claimed to teach people on official behalf of the Henan Mother Temple, the warning then came quickly, officially Shi Heng Yi has recently made the first pin in the Warrior Monk Duan Pin System, so he is at the level of a novice. Nevertheless, he sells books on Zen Buddhism and the like. (Shaolin is Chan, Japanese Zen) and also meditation courses with dubious people for thousands of euros, which of course has nothing to do with Zen or Shaolin. Then Hinnerk, could never prove his mastery, like many others of the controversial Oi Saidan lineage he was only in the monastery for a few weeks. Zensho W Kopp, claims to have received Zen mastery from a teacher, but as I said, this man is only a teacher and not a master and therefore cannot confer mastery, but has never claimed to do so. It is clear that this can only result in spiritual confusion, but people who have no prior knowledge of religious integrity find it difficult to differentiate. In the end, a spiritual ego is built. But that doesn't mean that the “authentic” path isn't full of stumbling blocks. Who wants to let go of their ego? For some it can actually brighten up life again, but I think it is much more difficult to find an authentic guru these days than the danger on the path itself. For Buddhist practice, at least in Zen, sitting meditation is not necessary.
“I do not wash my hands or shave my head, I do not read sutras or observe precepts, I do not burn incense, I do not do sitting meditation, I do not perform memorial ceremonies for a master or Buddha.”
Chin'g gak Kuksa Hyesim (1178-1234)
How about that? :)"

2024.06.02 09:28 iamkingsleyf How Many Types of Potatoes Are There?

Are you a potato lover, and how many types of potatoes are there? Is a question in your thoughts? There are about 4,000 different potato varieties, including some popular kinds. In this article, we will highlight the most common types of potatoes.
The primary food in most homes is potato. It's a simple vegetable that can be boiled, baked, or mashed and used in nearly any dish.
Potato varieties have distinct tastes, textures, colors, and best cooking uses. When you imagine a potato, it might be a normal one with a brown exterior and a white interior, but there are many different potatoes.
The nightshade plant Solanum tuberosum produces the tuberous root vegetable known as the potato, which ranks fourth in global food crop popularity behind maize, wheat, and rice.
Potato is nutrient-dense despite the criticism for its high carbohydrate content. The potato contains more protein than beef, calcium than milk, iron than spinach, and potassium than bananas.
Furthermore, potatoes are a fantastic source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and phosphorus. They lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Potato is the main ingredient of French fries, chips, hash browns, and other fried foods. Potato is used in baking, making mashed potatoes, and as a side dish.

1. Russet Potatoes

One of the types of potatoes is the Russet potato, also known as Idaho, bakers, or Burbank potatoes. Since they were first cultivated in the 1870s, these potatoes have gained popularity for their usage in French fries and account for around 70% of all potato sales in the US today.
The Russet potato is a starchy white potato that, when baked, becomes dry and mealy and has a high amylose content.

2. Japanese Sweet Potato

It is a well-known Satsuma-imo or sweet potato cultivar that is high in nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Its flavor can best be described as sweet and nutty.

3. Sweet Potato

Next on our list of types of potatoes is sweet potato. While sweet potatoes are technically classified as a root vegetable and a nightshade family member, all potatoes are tubers.
Because of its rough reddish-orange skin, most sweet potato dishes call for peeling either before or after cooking. Bright orange, creamy, and charming describe the inside, making it suitable for savory and sweet meals.

4. Jewel Yam

It is a form of sweet potato and a part of the morning glory family of plants and trees, not the genuine yam family. One of the most popular sweet potatoes on the market is this one.

5. Red Potato

Also known as red bless or redskin potatoes. One of the varieties of potatoes with the highest wax helps them keep their shape even after cooking.
Most recipes don't call for peeling because of their skin's reddish color and thinness. When cooked, the interior of the red potato has a thick texture and is dazzling white.

6. Hannah Sweet Potato

This sweet potato type, also known as the Sweet Hannah or Yellow Hannah, resembles the Jewel Yam but has paler skin and meat.

7. White Potato

Whitish potato is also one of the types of potatoes. White potatoes, so named because of their white skin and flesh, are similar to russet potatoes in flavor and texture.
Still, because of their much thinner skin, you may frequently omit the peeling process for many dishes because the skin will soften considerably during cooking.

8. Red Bliss

It is a typical red type with much sugar, moist, translucent flesh, and gummy when mashed.

9. French Fingerling

French Fingerling is also one of the types of potatoes. Fingerling potatoes have a size range of two to four inches and are roughly the size of a giant finger.
They are available in various hues, including white, purple, yellow, and red. The thin skins of fingerling potatoes are covered in a waxy core frequently spotted with colored veins. Because of how often their entertaining shape is highlighted in meals, they are commonly cooked whole or simply in halves.

10. La Ratte

It is a variety of French heritage fingerlings with a solid buttery flavor and high-fat content. French farmer Jean Pierre Clot initially cultivated it in the Swiss Alps.

11. Russian Banana

The Russian Banana is a well-liked small-sized potato cultivar with a rich flavor like a fingerling potato and is distinguished by a firm texture.

12. Yellow Potato

Next on our list of types of potatoes is the yellow potato. The fact that yellow potatoes are among the most popular potato kinds is not surprising, given their naturally buttery flavor and silky-smooth interior. Despite having a thin skin, when fried or roasted, it properly crisps up.
Yellow potatoes are occasionally called "golden potatoes"; however, this is probably because people mistake them for Yukon Gold potatoes, a marketed variety that boasts a reduced carbohydrate content.

13. Red Gold Potato

This medium-sized potato cultivar has its roots in the 1970s in North America. It tastes sweet and nutty and has a smooth, velvety texture.

14. Rose Finn Apple

Rose Finn Apple is an old heirloom potato cultivar from Ireland. Its name comes from the color of its skin, which looks like the skin of a rose apple. This potato is very nutritious and contains vitamin C.

15. Purple Peruvian

Last on our list of types of potatoes is Purple Peruvian. Purple Peruvian potatoes were first developed in Peru but can now be found in other countries. These potatoes are known for their dark purple skin and creamy texture.
Potatoes are one of the most important food crops worldwide. Potatoes are grown on over 40 million hectares (100 million acres) worldwide, making it the third largest food crop after corn and wheat.
To extend their shelf life, potatoes are typically "cured" underground for a few weeks after being harvested in the fall or early winter.

2024.06.02 08:51 ET_Org Love Hate Love

Is a really good song by Alice in Chains. If you like rock / grunge music and haven't yet come across it, highly recommend.
I think this might be kind of different, cause I don't totally hate myself. There's actually a lot about me that I like and am even grateful for. I don't think the world would be better off without me, and as egotistical as it may sound, sometimes I think the world might even be better if more people were a little more like me.
But. I never learned to care about myself, and I hate myself tremendously because of it.
There's a semi-popular phrase that usually says some version of 'love yourself cause no one else is going to'.
Well. Not only is being the only one in the world to love something pointless, it will literally make you insane. Because sense no one else cares, any and everything wrong and bad that falls on it won't matter to anyone. It will get no help. No thought. No consideration. No understanding. Nothing.
So, why bother. Why bother anything. What's an insignificant existence worth. Woe is me. Whine whine. Ugh. Pathetic. Probably delete this in a little bit. Can't let anyone know, ya know, or they'll judge you harshly. Gotta be the perfect being.

2024.06.02 08:00 bigshaq333 Language School vs Career Advancement

Hi Everyone, wanted to get some advice on Japan language school and career.
A little bit about me. I’m currently a 24yr old residing in California, working as a business analyst at a small local supply chain company remotely. I am a dual citizen in both U.S. and Japan. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and obviously English. Both my parents are trilingual (English, Chinese, Japanese). My Japanese level is basically nonexistent, I can understand certain words and phrases based on conversations between my parents and family since I was born. I have visited family in Japan plenty of times and understand the culture.
My parents have always regretted not teaching me Japanese and lately it has caught up with me. They brought up attending a language school in Japan for two years to learn the language. I do want to experience living in Japan in the future and potentially residing there if I love it vs living in the Southern California. As a 24yr old fresh out of college (Degree in economics from University of California) what is holding me back is building my career, 4yr relationship with my GF who I see marrying. My main concern is definitely not building up my resume yet, moving to Japan and not being able to find a job as easily. Furthermore, if I end up not loving living in Japan, coming back to the U.S. at 27 and finding jobs with an experience of a 24yr old. Obviously, doing long distance with my girlfriend will be tough (which I haven’t brought up the thought of me going yet), but we both have talked about moving to Japan in the future when we get married given my citizenship status.
The two options that I see are: going to language school for two years (halting my career, leaving my GF), or staying in the U.S. (build my career, move out with GF, learning Japanese by myself and speaking with my parents regularly for conversational skills)
Would love to hear opinions and experiences! Thank you!

2024.06.02 07:01 PotentiallyTheA-hole AITA for calling my brother out for mockingly repeating Japanese voicelines in Godzilla Minus One?

Created this account specifically for this sub.
I (18M), my mom (47F), my dad (46M), and my brother (14M) all sat down earlier tonight to watch Godzilla Minus One, which had just been added to Netflix where we live. We don't know any Japanese, and we watched the subbed version and not the dubbed version. Amazing movie! However, the conflict in question arose because my brother was constantly repeating the Japanese voicelines in a tone that was clearly intended to be humourous, and it came off to me as mockery, as well as just a general annoyance for the rest of us trying to watch the movie. I got the sense that my brother thought the Japanese voicelines sounded weird and wanted to make fun of them, which really bothered me because anyone with self-awareness understands they would only sound "weird" to people who don't speak the Japanese language. English would sound similarly weird to a Japanese person who's unfamiliar with it.
After the movie ended, I told my brother that he was being an annoyance by mockingly repeating the voicelines and that he was coming off as insensitive. I tried not to be rude about it, because I know he's not that old, but I did want to make sure he understood that he shouldn't do this sort of thing in the future. My brother didn't say anything, and my parents said I was overreacting and that I didn't have to raise the issue at all. I decided I'd said my peace already, and everyone dispersed to head to sleep (it was late at that point). I'm trying to understand where my parents were coming from here. Do you think I should've let it go or maybe just phrased what I said in a more polite manner? I feel like I could have been more polite, but I stand by the basics of what I said and fail to see why I shouldn't have brought it up in the first place.

2024.06.02 06:51 futurebannedacct Choices

Choices
Hello, everyone. I'm out of my hibernation with another important message for you all and I know that just makes you so fucking happy and excited.
I wanted to remind everyone to check out my blog, which is one of the last bastions of free speech that is left in this god-forsaken place.
Alright, now that I have officially tongued my own asshole to the point where pleasure turns to dysphoria, allow me to present to you: total bullshit!
... and some other things.
Let's talk about choices. We make them everyday; life is all about them. This is a somewhat true statement - because life is really all about making sure you don't wake up - and choices play a significant role in this operation. Probably not so big a role as language, however, because language is the most deceptive tool in the arsenal of the ones with the power, so it is important that we choose our words wisely.
For example, I keep hearing the phrase "forced vaccinations" or "mandatory vaccinations" being thrown around conspiracy forums, and this phrase, in itself, is an example of the deceptive power of words. We need to be honest with ourselves - because through honesty the truth is exposed - and the truth is the most well hidden part of this experience because the ones in power work to keep the truth hidden at all costs... because the truth will "set you free". But I digress. No one was forced to get vaccinated - not yet, anyway - so let's be honest about this: you might have chosen to take the jab, in order to keep your job, or you might have chosen to take the jab, in order to participate in society. This is a choice that you are making. Perhaps the stakes are high and you had a lot to lose if you chose not to take the jab; but until they are breaking down your door, holding you down, and sticking that needle in your arm - until that time - you are giving your consent to take the jab.
This distinction is an important one to discern because we should be paying attention to the parts in life that are forced upon us and the parts in life that we are choosing to consent to. For example, no one forced us to wear masks for an entire year, but we all (for the most part) consented to doing so, in order to participate in society. We all chose to stand on the circles on the floor, in every checkout line, of every store. We made this choice for many different reasons - but in this community - many of us simply did this for other peoples "perceived well being". In other words, we were catering to the people that make up the majority and aren't as far along in the process of "waking up" as we are... although, many people seem to be choosing to remain asleep - for many different reasons - far from the most insignificant being "fear based programming".
Allow me to share my perspective: for an entire year, we all wore masks in public: an action which is gradually weakening our immune system. Also in public, we practiced "social-distancing": an action that is also gradually weakening our immune systems. Many people - the drooling masses - took this social-distancing b.s. very seriously, for their own "perceived well being" (while virtue-signaling online that they were doing it for everyone else). So, the government asked us to all make a choice: to wear masks and social-distance for a year and - oh - almost forgot! Hand sanitizer - all over, suddenly - some so strong that it seems to be pure rubbing alcohol - killing all germs - and, well... gradually weakening our immune systems! The government had us all compromising our immune systems and overall health, in preparation to get vaccinated with something that sounds... frankly, batshit insane. Do you think this was all an accident? An innocent faux-pas on the part of our dear leaders? I think this was done intentionally. I've also prepared this meme, to help illustrate the conspiracy in question:
The inspiration for this actually came from a post in that was written by someone who is, by no means, an anti-vaxxer, and overall still happy to be vaccinated... because the debilitating side-effects, self-replicating spike proteins is nothing compared to the constant onslaught of fear-based programming.
"Trust the science". That's the last thing I think I'll do; thank you very much. Science is a bullshit factory specializing in limiting beliefs, which uses language to support any point of view that it chooses to support... and of course the point of view we are inundated with, in excess, is that of the ones in power. So please know that if you choose to educate me in the comments, about why the science behind social distancing, face masks and hand sanitizer is to our benefit then I'm either going to think you are being intentionally deceitful, or I will feel sorry for you because you have sincerely become this invested in the wrong direction of practices that are to your benefit.
The moral of the story is that the words we use need to be chosen carefully, because when we choose words such as "forced" and "mandated", we are only working to deceive ourselves further away from the truth. The truth is that we are consistently bombarded with propaganda and manipulation, from the many resources available to the power structure, with the goal of getting our consent. The internet has been a great resource for the power structure to use for minimizing the power of consent. We must constantly "agree" to the terms and conditions that are made to be intentionally agonizing to read and understand. We are being trained to believe that consent is of little value or importance - consent is nothing more than a single click - in order to get to the prize on the other side. The truth may be that our consent is far more valuable than we realize: our consent is one of our most valuable assets.
We need to pay attention to the effect that our consent has on our shared reality - because if there is one thing I learned, after experiencing psychosis - it's that the greatest sin is often committed by very kind people: the kind of people who are timid, helpful, and generous to a point where others take advantage of their kind, benevolent nature. Everyone knows someone who is in a relationship with a manipulative, controlling narcissist that walks all over them. Everyone knows someone who is kind, meek, and respectful of others... because they have no backbone. Someone who has lived a life of avoiding any and all conflict, at all costs, and chooses instead to allow others to take advantage of them. When you habitually allow others to walk all over you, this is your consent that "it's ok for others to do this to me". You are a worse person that the one who is violating you, because you think that it is ok for this to happen to you.
Alright - that was just to set the mood for the actual post - which will begin..... ........ ......... now.
CHOICES: PATRIOTIC EDITION
In the spirit of (shudder) "the most free country on Earth" we're going to (I had a bad reaction to typing that just now, I find the idea to be suffocating and repulsive) talk about choices in red, white and blue. To be perfectly honest, I don't know that much about topics like "color programming", or the exact science and reasoning behind it; I just know that this color palette is used with enough frequency and in a way where there is likely some intent behind it. Perhaps it's as simple as feeling patriotic about democracy, constitutional rights, and other deceptive concepts that are total bullshit - or maybe - the meaning behind it goes far deeper, into the psychological manipulation that is induced by this particular color palette. When I saw that the magnet shared the same red/blue color palette, I realized that these colors are likely being used in order to put each individual into a state of polarization.
CHOICE # 1
Games are fun. Games are based in conflict. Manufacturing reality by making conflict the biggest source for entertainment.
Being alive involves the near constant activity of making choices. We are indoctrinated with the idea that having more choices is desirable. The power construct that is manufacturing reality has recently gone into overdrive in the manufacturing of choices. As the information age progresses through time, the amount of choices is becoming an ever increasing burden on the collective consciousness. The choices are presented using many different angles. A popular example is beliefs, which are currently being exploited by the manufacturers of choices more than any other time in the collective memory*...* which is always followed closely by the collective amnesia. Choices are deeply rooted in the DIVIDE AND CONQUER strategy, an all time favorite of the power construct. Choices are now being utilized in another favorite strategy for maintaining control: ORDER OUT OF CHAOS. Choices have an important role in the MANUFACTURING OF CONSENT, which is highly valued by the power construct. Consent is the oil that keeps the reality machine running smoothly, which is why so much effort is put into the illusion that consent has very little value. This illusion is concealed very well within the fabric of the intangible idea of reality that is overlaying the physical, material reality and has been so successful that consent is given almost instantaneously and without a second thought. Meanwhile, the illusion of value that has been given to currency is as strong as ever: remaining in its long-held position as one of the "pillars of control", which supports and maintains the power construct. The other pillar of control: the illusion of legitimacy, which several institutions within the power construct rely on, has been under maintenance, as a new version is being installed. While the anticipation for this new update slowly builds, the grand master illusion behind the power construct: FEAR BASED PROGRAMMING, - that's it - I'm giving up on this now. They're fucking plastic robots that hit each other until one of their heads... pops a boner?
CHOICE # 2
A theme that seems to always accompany color-based choices emerges: everyone on the outside, looking in, sees an absolutely pointless rivalry. These dudes are victims of mind control.
Well, after choice # 1 resulted in a train wreck of disjointed abstractions trying way too hard to be deep, meaningful observations, I am troubled by the thought of how many readers have probably given up on this. I want everyone that is still with me to know that, due to irrational fears about what anonymous online profiles might think about me, I will now focus primarily on "fitting in" and being likeable, by employing a strategy of trying very hard to not express any more ideas that might be considered "out there". Obviously, this is just the result of growing up poor and uneducated in the ghetto. I mean, who is crazy enough to actually believe that this is somehow connected to other rivalry's that use... very similar hues of red and blue. I mean, they are two of the most popular colors out there - both primary - and... realistically, there aren't that many colors; especially that complement each other like red and blue... ahh, blue and red: the colors of rivalry. There's no deep conspiracy here. Obviously, these guys wear these colors so they know who their enemies are... because, otherwise, there is no reason to kill each other. This is all about the colors. It would be completely pointless otherwise and these guys would probably get on well and hang out in each other's back yards... and then the cops would have nothing to do, which would be a waste of tax payer dollars. Can't have cops just standing around eatin' donuts and getting fat.
CHOICE # 3
Coke & Pepsi. A classic rivalry that makes me proud to live in a free country, where great ideas like capitalism can flourish. I know that they are made by the same company, but I don't really think that matters, ya know?
We are presented with choices. Our choices shape our opinions. So, if I choose red - I mean - Coke, then I will get along with others who choose Coke and we will agree that we chose correctly and that the people that prefer blue - I mean - Pepsi, chose incorrectly. Well, the people that chose blue think they chose correctly and that it is, in fact, the red people that chose incorrectly. This is a conflict of interests, and conflicts create division. People who are divided require a non-biased mediator so that order can be maintained and, because this mediator cares about the safety of both the red and the blue groups, it only makes sense that they should be given the authority to decide what is ok and is not ok for both groups. This is the most rational and logical option because the authority isn't biased towards red or blue, which means they will know what's best for everyone's interests. The police are there to make sure that all red and all blue people are all following all of the all-inclusive rules, mandated by the mediator, and all this is done for the greater good of society. I - I'm gonna get all choked up over here, just thinking about how nice the government is to do all that it does for us. They protect us from those fucking freaks that drink Pepsi. God I fucking hate those sub-human blue-tards! Red people generally have more money and are more successful, which means they are smarter. What started as a small neighborhood feud between Coke and Pepsi is actually how the gang warfare between the Bloods & Crips originated. That's right, they got the colors from Coke and Pepsi, which obviously is a lot more likely than a vast conspiracy involving powerful people manipulating reality in order to maintain control and power over the uninitiated masses. Fuck poor people. Oh, and how about those people that make their preference for Coke or Pepsi an aspect of their personality? They don't seem to understand that the color of the can is the only fucking difference. That's why I stick with Tab Cola, for those unmistakable metallic flavors and the uncomfortable, sticky feeling all over my body the next day.
CHOICE # 4
They're the exact same store except for the fact that one is red and one is blue... and yet, you have a preference for one over the other. You made up some reasons for why they are different in your head, because you are under an immense amount of mind control.
Ahh... consumerism**:** the arena of pointless choices. Why does only one company manufacture all the different brands of eyeglasses? Perhaps... to have control over the market? No - to have control over you, stupid - and no: this isn't a joke. It's a desperate plea, urging you to wake up and see this shit for what it really is, while you have this opportunity - this window - into the illusion. You see, they are getting desperate - and lately, the world seems like it has gone mad - which is part of their strategy, which is preventing you from seeing it. Why do you think there are suddenly twenty new M&M's flavor combinations? All these new Reese's Peanut Butter Cup's with minor alterations of essentially the same fucking thing? Let me guess: they're just having fun... right? Trying to stir up interest in candy bars? Or maybe for profit... right? This is just a business strategy to get your money... right? No... no... I'm afraid you're thinking way too small... with your logic and reason and all the other LIMITING BELIEFS that you have been - and are being - indoctrinated with: every fucking day! These are all pointless choices (brought to you by consumerism) that are trying to keep you distracted. Trying to keep your mind occupied. Why is Netflix trying to induce option paralysis? Why are the high-tech gadgets we use for entertainment purposes bombarding us with a constant onslaught of ads, new articles, stories, and a maddening amount of pointless bullshit?!?!?! They want you to be overwhelmed*;* they want you to freeze. They want you to have no sense of identity. They want life to overwhelm you with an endless list of pointless shit that has to get done in order to maintain... in order to maintain... to maintain what? THE ILLUSION, IDIOT. Ok: that was uncalled for. I don't think you're an idiot. I think that you know, in the bottom of your cold, gray heart , that the crazy shit I am saying sounds right (for some reason). They are manipulating reality in order to keep you under their power and control. I don't exactly know why, but I do know that they care a lot more about you being distracted than they care about worthless green paper. You know what? I bet the 1% doesn't give a shit about money: they simply have all of it just to piss you off. Why is all this corruption in the news all the time? The next fucking scandal that everyone can talk about? WHY is the news telling us to wear masks, get vaccinated and then, the following week, admitting COVID-19 is a bio-weapon? TO KEEP YOU DISTRACTED. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO THEM. Oh, and Walmart and Target's LOGOS both contain some occult symbolism. Yep: Target's logo is the astrological symbol for the sun and Walmart's logo is the Star of David... with the hexagon in the middle. The hexagon is symbolic of the cube. Once you understand that you can't not see the cube*.* It's fucking weird - but also a conversation for another time - when we can discuss why all of these well-known corporate LOGOs are symbolic of Saturn:

CHOICE # 5
You know what? I think I should devote a large portion of my life to watching a bunch of overpaid, mentally compromised, grown-ass men chase a ball around. I also think I should be passionate about the team that is closest to me in geographical proximity. This is not mind control, but as a conspiracy realist, I do like to point out that MK Ultra really did happen, and the CIA really did experiment with mind control back in the 1950's, but the program ended decades ago. I like to go on online conspiracy forums, and help people understand the reality of conspiracy theories, so they don't get sucked into lies like Q-anon or lizard people or THIS POST, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY THE WORK OF A MENTALLY UNSTABLE INDIVIDUAL.
Watching sports makes me feel safe, and comfortable, because it distracts me from all the bullshit of everyday life. It's good to have a nice distraction - and fill my mind with useless sports stats - or talk endlessly with the bro's about individual players strength's and weaknesses - in a boring, monotonous tone of voice - while I sip domestic piss-water beer. I don't want to think too deeply about things because it starts to make me really uncomfortable when I have to confront reality. I'd rather just not worry about it and see what happens. Who am I but a lowly speck of insignificant, worthless dog shit in this giant, scary universe, where I am completely powerless to do anything but take whatever beating the world feels like dishing out to me that day? I dunno. Maybe Jesus will come back and good will win out in the end. Good always wins in the end - that's just the way it works - so I don't really have to worry about anything. God is good. My little brother doesn't like sports at all. He likes to put on girls makeup, and is always depressed and confused and obsessing about some dumb shit. We're lucky to live in the modern age, with advancements in science that will allow my brother to medically transition into the woman that he always should have been - and always truly was - on the inside. Some assholes don't think that trans women are women. They just don't understand how science works, and don't care to learn. They are just misogynistic, transphobic assholes. That's right: if you don't think that you can be born a man and then change into a woman that means you are transphobic. You hate trans people because you don't want to believe that a man can change into a woman. Anyway - that's my brother -not me. I like guy shit... because I'm normal.
CHOICE # 666
The choice of the beast
Oh NO! Everyone hates politics - which is why I hid it at the end - because I know nobody is still reading this. I've alienated myself from the audience, with all the confusing switching between dialogues of seemingly different people and JUST BECAUSE I BET there will be some DIP-CLIP that says "voting is how we get things done around here." HA! Nice try, but this isn't about politics; this is a meta-analysis of WHY it's NO POLITICS. The short answer is that participating in this is as pointless as those people above, participating in gang warfare against their fellow man. "THOSE PEOPLE?" What do you mean, those people? Black people? THIS GUYS RACIST. No, even worse: HE'S INTOLERANT. The human race has become far too soft, weak and emasculated by the pesticides and environmental toxins that get dumped all over us, every day! GET VACCINATED for other people, you SELFISH CONSPIRACY THEORIST. This is why we aren't going to reach herd immunity and we will have to deal with COVID-19 for years to come: because of people like you. WHY WOULD I trust a RANDOM, intolerant asshole on Reddit, who watched a YouTube video about lizard people, over EXPERTS who WENT TO SCHOOL for years to become indoctrinated, believe everything the MSM tells them, and completely LACK the ability to critically think?! All my life I heard that I "need to go to college", and today I couldn't be happier that I am not of a "higher education" because, from what I've gathered, they are some of the most CLOSE-MINDED people on the planet. LIMITING BELIEFS. That's what trendy these days.
I'm not done yet! Yes, I'm gonna talk about the donkey and the elephant: not only are politics bullshit; those who participate in politics are participating in a terrible, evil practice. Why would you affiliate with a political party and tell people what you think they can and cannot do? Can't you see that's the crux of the problem? I know things are fucked when the majority of people are of the opinion that we need to FIX the government (change it, drain the swamp, bureaucracy, etc.) They don't get it - we don't need to change the government - we need to END the government. Government is the single biggest threat to humanity. "But they protect us from the BAD people." Guess what? "The bad people" are there because of the government. The government needs the bad people to be there, in order to maintain their "illusion of legitimacy" (credit - Jim@EOI) and make themselves seem needed. THE BAD PEOPLE are the people who protect us. The sooner you understand that, the better off you are. And people are still talking about election fraud because they think that Trump is GOOD. Can't you see the mind control? How are these people this BLIND to reality?
Manipulation of reality.
Look... it's the superpowers. The greatest countries in the world! But why do they have the exact same color scheme as all the pointless choices? How can they be united? This is the divided states and the divided kingdom, and they have conquered. DIVIDE & CONQUER. Oh, wait... some patriots went off to find a new home and fight for freedom from the oppression of the taxation of the royal bloody palace? Only to go and make a new country even more oppressive and with higher taxes, some two-hundred odd years later? Are you SURE that it wasn't actually to commit GENOCIDE against all the indigenous BROWN PEOPLE, whose genetic makeup allowed them to have a far deeper understanding of spirituality? CoUlDn't bE Th*@*T....
I'M DRAWING A LINE IN THE SAND
I am so sick of the average Redditor - who thinks they're smart because they're an atheist who understands science - arguing with me, using all their SUPER-BELIEVABLE LIMITING BELIEFS. I know on Reddit it's hard to tell who is real and who ... isn't real - but these people are seemingly the majority now - and they're fucked. They don't even actually understand what science is. Science isn't chopping off your dick to be a woman. Let's talk about the actual scientist who performed many series of actual scientific experiments to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that people are able to control material reality with only the use of their minds. Why doesn't anyone ever want to talk about THAT science?
What it seems is that every thing in this world - every institution, religion, and academic study - has been corrupted to keep us under control. The people that are in control of this world have access to esoteric knowledge that they have hidden from the masses to keep for themselves. This knowledge involves the ability to manipulate reality, which they use for power and keeping the rest of us down and powerless. From what I can tell, the thing they don't want us to know is that we are powerful beings, with capabilities that have been hidden and unused. Every person needs to understand that they are a powerful being that doesn't need any help or anyone to save them. WE have the power to control our own destiny. If the majority would start believing in their power and themselves, we would have a chance at ending this shitty reality manipulation and living as non-dual beings of love - as the true source of creation made us - powerful, independent beings with everything we need, and no need to evolve or learn shitty lessons about suffering. Unfortunately, it seems like most people would prefer to keep their creature comforts, believe that this isn't as bad as I am making it sound, and remain here, in the safety of familiarity... away from the fear of the unknown. And that makes me so fucking sad that it brings tears to my eyes.

2024.06.02 04:02 Where_am_i2045 Seinfeld is a better TV show than Friends

When Seinfeld aired it received more viewers than Friends. However, Friends has remained wildly popular and is likely more popular now than Seinfeld. Nevertheless, Friends is not really that funny. It’s amusing more in a “I don’t feel like thinking so I’m gonna watch Friends” kinda way. It’s really just an alternative to heroine for people who don’t want to become homeless drug addicts.
Seinfeld on the other hand is legitimately funny. There are a number of catch phrases that still tickle the funny bone today. (Think “no soup for you!) It’s humour has stood the test of time. Speaking personally, some of the antics that characters got up to in that show I continue to think about on a regular basis to this today, like George building a bed under his desk, or Jerry dumping that girl because she ate her peas one at a time.
When I bring this up with people they will say things like “yeah but Jennifer Aniston was hot”. This is true, but Elaine was actually funny, which is more than can be said for Rachel. I asked a younger girl (in her 20’s) which show was better and she told me that Seinfeld was an old man show! This cut me to the core. What is wrong with people today that they would prefer to watch the second rate TV show Friends over the masterpiece that is Sienfeld?
In short, Seinfeld was 10x the show friends was, it was and always will be the better TV show.

Sold out at my first market!!
Swipe for the before and after :'))
This feels so surreal, I still haven't come to terms with it. I had my first market today at a Japanese-culture festival and I was so nervous about it. Crochet isn't that popular in my country, but there were also two other sellers. And I was freaking out cause I thought my prices were too high (not higher than their value, just high for ppl in my country), but at the end of the day I had to leave early cause almost everything sold out! And the best part was meeting so many people who were freaking out about them, leaving or buying something and then coming back to buy something else. It was so fun!

2024.06.02 02:11 MambaStorm10 Help Me Out Here Please

So there's this girl in my class (England Yr9 aka 14 years old) who I can't tell if they like me or not. There was one time in a music lesson where we were in a cramped room and she just so happened to end up standing in front of me the whole lesson and her friends were tickling her and making her bend over right in front of me and at one point she even ending up backing her butt into my special area and kept it there for a couple seconds and acted like it never happened even though i know she knew because she backed into me quite hard.At one point in the lesson one of her friends accidentally sprayed perfume on me and when one of her other friends told the friend that sprayed me that she sprayed me she said it would help me get a girlfriend and even asked if I wanted a girlfriend. One time my friend was singing and she made eye contact with me and said my singing was cute and didn't take notice when i said it was my friend not me.One of the popular boys said she liked me and she denied it and almost seemed like she was about to cry as she semed really embarrassed. She occasionally jumps into my conversations with my friends but only on what i said and seems to only be talking to me.One time when we were getting Chromebooks in a lesson my friend went to get me one but she had one and gave it to me before my friend could get me one. Also I've caught her looking at me a few times but I could be mistaken. She's popular and fit whilst I'm quite shy and only speak to my friends really.I used to talk to her a bit in primary school but now I've only said a few words and phrases to her. Also in primary school she added me on xbox and we used to play Fortnite.
So what do you think does she like me or am I just making something out of nothing?

2024.06.01 23:11 starfallpuller Why are there no large chains of Chinese or Indian or Fish & Chips?

It occurred to me today that there are no large / national chains of our most popular takeaways and restaurants.
For pizza there is Dominos, Pizza Hut, Pizza Express. There is Yo Sushi and Wagamamas for Japanese food. Las Iguanas and Chiquito for Mexican food. All manner of burger / American chains.
But fish and chips, chinese and indian must be our most popular cuisines - so why are there no large chains of these?

2024.06.01 22:44 Avversariocasuale Why do people delete comments?

I want to make it very clear. I'm just genuinely curious, I don't mean to imply there is anything wrong with it.
I see that user's here always jump at the opportunity to suggest an author deletes a rude comment. Why? At this point they've already read it. They're still not expected to reply to it. It's simply just there.
I guess some people might want to delete some more controversial ones but if the comment is simply "the ships suxks" I don't see why there would be a need to delete it. But it's such a popular piece of advice here that I'm starting to wonder why
Edit: I think I didn't phrase my question well. My question wasn't strictly "why would authors delete comments" but why is it such a popular suggestion here? I worked on the assumption that any author would know when they couldn’t deal with a comment and delete it for their peace of mind, and I assumed other users here would too, so when they suggest to delete them I thought there was something else they wanted to achieve or prevent with that.

2024.06.01 22:31 Kahako A breakdown of the different translations of Poison and their variances in lyrical meaning.

My friend Sarah (I love you!) was bored one day and listened to the different translations of poison and summarized how they differ from the English translation. She didn't feel comfortable posting on Reddit, so I'm posting on her behalf because I thought it was a cool insight. The source video they used is below!
Ok so main differences are that Italian Angel blames himself for his situation, he’s a bit more connected to the theme of death or dying from the poison, which is a theme a lot of languages will kinda continue to follow that English didn’t. He also kinda embraces the whole being a porn star thing at the beggining
Ok so German is extremely similar to English to the point where there’s only a single difference in the beginning: he focuses more on the whole “lover” part than the actual porn star part. Also at the beginning he says that he saw it coming, which is the only other difference. This is in contrast to English and Italian where he said he should’ve seen it coming, not that he did
Latin American Spanish is kinda similar to Italian: he embraces the life he has and also emphasizes the poison being lethal and/or ending his life. Spanish Spanish is the same as Latin American Spanish with different phrasing
French is the same as English except he embraces being a porn star. Cad French is the same as normal French except he views his life as a cicle
ok so hindi is special because its really different from the others, theres no seeing it come, theres no lying to val its almost completely different. he rarely even says the word poison. he talks more about how he has a crowd, a line of lovers, and how valentino set up a trap that he fell in, he kinda blames it on both which is weird because the others tended to blame themselves. this is like twice as long as the other but i had to because hindi was interestingly different to the rest
also im pretty sure hindi angel doesnt mention death once, even english implied death and most of the others focused it but not hindi
japanese is also very special. he never says the word poison. hindi said it a few times but not japanese, no poison for him. the lyrics are also completely different, they sound more like hes trying to justify his actions. the begining itself had nothing of the common things, no porn star, no lovers, no seeing something coming. he just talks about how love is tainted by money, how it overflows with commonplace lies, ect. Like hes justifying why he chose that life and the situation of that life at the same time
portuguese goes back to the formula with a twist, he acknoleges hes not the only porn star and that theres others like him being abused. also while he does say the word poison the song is more focused on the word hostage, how hes a hostage in a life he chose
other than that portuguese follows in english's foot steps
only difference for thai is that he focuses more on love
turkish is an almost perfect translation with no differences, it sticks to english's formula perfectly

Ku'urkil is the Chukchi creator-deity, roughly analogous to Bai-Ulgan of the Turkic pantheon. The Koryak refer to him as Quikinna'qu ("Big Raven") and in Kamchadal mythology he is called Kutkhu.
❤️❤️💚Also-------- ❤️❤️💚
Kutkh is known widely among the people that share a common Chukotko-Kamchatkan language family. Regionally, he is known as Kúrkil among the Chukchi; as Kutq among the Itelmens; and as KútqI, KútqIy, or KúsqIy among the southeastern Koryaks and KúykIy or QúykIy among the northwestern Koryaks.
In Koryak, the name is employed commonly in its augmentative form, (KutqÍnnaku, KusqÍnnaku, KuyÍnnaku) all meaning "Big Kutkh" and often translated simply as "God". Kutkh (also Kutkha, Kootkha, Kutq, Kutcha and other variants, Russian: Кутх) is a Raven spirit traditionally revered in various forms by various indigenous peoples of the Russian Far East. Kutkh appears in many legends: as a key figure in creation, as a fertile ancestor of mankind, as a mighty shaman and as a trickster. He is a popular subject of the animist stories of the Chukchi people and plays a central role in the mythology of the Koryaks and Itelmens of Kamchatka. Many of the stories regarding Kutkh are similar to those of the Raven among the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast, suggesting a long history of indirect cultural contact between Asian and North American peoples.
