2024.05.19 02:21 Historical_Bit_1050 Missing phone for 2 hours, returns itself.

Alright, so this happened a few months ago at work. Iā€™m a restaurant manager, and we were having a normal day. I usually keep my phone on a shelf thatā€™s not really accessible to customers, but is in an open area in the restaurant that customers can see. Itā€™s about 6 ft off the ground and Iā€™m not tall enough to actually be able to see the shelf, I just tippy-toe reach it. It's a small shelf, with 2 decorative items on it but nothing else.
I put my phone in its regular spot and I go about my day. About an hour later I go to check my phone and couldn't find it. I figured that I put it somewhere else so I begin looking, but itā€™s nowhere to be found. I go and ask my staff and they all say that they havenā€™t seen it. I start to panic now, thinking maybe a customer watched me put it up there and waited to steal it, so I have everyone do a quick look, and get taller staff to physically check and its gone gone.
My sister has my location tracked on iMessage, so I called her via the store phone to ask if she can see it anywhere. She looks and says that my ā€œlocation isnā€™t availableā€ and my phone mustā€™ve been turned off. She sends a few messages pleading for whoever has it to return it and none of them get delivered. About 30 mins after talking to my sister, I started calling the owners so they could review the security footage to determine who took it/if I ended up moving it somewhere weird, and my sister calls. These people are incredibly not friendly, and I avoid talking to them at all costs, and they have not answered my call at this point so I hang up to answer my sister. She says ā€œyouā€™re phone just turned back on! Iā€™ve been monitoring it and it looks like itā€™s right outsideā€. I go outside and donā€™t see anything obvious like someone holding it or anything so I go back in. Right there, on the shelf that myself and at least 8 other people have checked a cumulative 20+ times, is my phone. Itā€™s blatantly on the corner, exactly where I remembered putting it. Dumbfounded, I asked every single person on shift about it and they swear up and down they didnā€™t have/touch it. I love and trust these people and genuinely believe them.
This all occurred in a 2 hour span. I was so relieved to have found it that I kinda just went on about my day, but I still get weirded out thinking about it. I regret not calling the owners and asking them to review the footage, again, I really really avoid them whenever I can. But damn, I want to know if it just blipped out of existence for a couple hours.
Anyone have anything similar happen?

2024.05.19 01:43 jaysonm007 Why drivers cancel your ride after having it for a while.

I did this (Cancelled rides after initially accepting) twice today and I thought I would share why so you might better understand what is going on. I know I will likely get downvoted for being "uppity" but here you go anyway, some honesty:

1 First ride was at a higher end Hotel here with a very small parking lot/dropoff pickup area. Valet parking is also in the same spot. It was absolutely pouring down rain and when I received the ping (offer for the trip)and as usual it just told me a nearby cross section of streets and didn't specify the hotel. The offer was for like $5.15. Had I known it was this hotel I never would have accepted the ride for several reasons:

  1. The parking area as said is very small at is likely that you will get stuck in there for 5-10 minutes.
  2. The valet there always come up to you and I just find it annoying having to interact with them all the time.
  3. It's a higher end hotel and the people there tend to be wealthy. It annoys me a little bit that the pay is so low for the trip from there ($5). From such a place I prefer to get at least $10 because it seems to me the clientelle there are usually a bit "snooty" and picky about things. I also notice tips seem to be more rare from them versus the other nearby hotels...
  4. It was pouring down rain and the road was beginning to moderately flood.
  5. I could tell that the customer would be going to a destination which would require me to make a left turn out of this place and I always find making that left turn annoying because of the traffic and the small parking area. Today it was even worse due to the heavy rain. It's a very dangerous turn to make actually and I dislike doing it.
...but regardless I decided to go ahead and do it.... until I was able to see the hotel and until I saw a line of five or six cars backed up outside the entrance area waiting to pull into the tiny lot. At that point I just cancelled the ride because there was no way it was worth it for only $5. It easiliy could have taken 20 minutes just to get in and out of there alone.

2 This trip occurred right after the one above, strangely enough. It was still pouring down rain but not as bad as the previous trip. I get a ping (ride offer) for a little under $8. Again they only give me the cross sections of the road nearby it. They don't tell me the name of the business or even the exact address in the ping (ride offer). I see it and by the location figure that it is probably a nearby apartment. I see the cross section for the destination and see it is a hotel. I figure it is probably an employee at the hotel going to work.... NO! DAMN! After accepting it I see it is a pickup at a shuttle transportation service. And since this is Uber they don't tell em the exact destination until I pickup the customer but I figure out from the info they gave at the ping that it is likely going to a different high end hotel with a very small parking/dropoff area too. And also valet parking.

Of course I cancelled this one too! Why?
  1. It was still pouring down rain. And the shuttle area does not have any cover. Plus it was a female passenger. So more than likely I would have to either get out (and get soaked) and help with luggage or else deal with a pissed off customer who might downrate me or do a false report because I am not willing to provide butler service for $7.80.
  2. This shuttle service is usually used by people who are cheap. Combine this with someone going to this high end hotel and it implies that they are both wealthy and cheap. Basically the shuttle picks them up at the airport and either takes them to the hotel or just to the shuttle office. To go tot he hotel costs a bit extra. This passenger it seems didn't want to pay that money and instead got dropped off at the shuttle office-- they probably thought the Uber would be cheaper than the extra money the shuttle service would charge to take them to the hotel. So again wealthy (likely) AND cheap. VERY cheap. A horrible combination for getting a tip! On top of that such people tend to demand a lot more and complain more about things. Not to mention the odds are high that there is a lot of luggage. Probably at least two people-- if not four (and with all that luggage-- for $7.80-- int he pouring rain and NO tip!)
  3. Just like in #1 though a different hotel, this one also has a very small parking/dropoff area and it tends to get backed up. You can easily get stuck there for 15 minutes. Now the pay for this trip was barely worth it already but I had remembered how the other hotel was backed up and figured it was likely this one was backed up too. So I canceled.
After I cancelled this ride, I immediately got another ride for about the same amount. This one was picking up an employee at a house and taking them to restaurant where they worked. It was about half the distance and probably about 1/5th the amount of time as trip #2 would have been. Plus I never had to leave the car, there was no luggage to deal with and no backed up tiny parking areas to delay me and also risk getting into an accident due to all the people there chaotically moving all about. And, again, for about the same pay. So bottom line here: $8 for about 25-30 minutes, getting soaked from the rain, handling luggage VS $8 for about 5 minutes, not getting wet, not handling any luggage, staying in the car. Easy choice, no?
So if you read this far, thank you. I thought I'd just explain what went on so some of you might understand better. How could it be solved and made better? Well for one thing if they just paid us fairly all of the above would be far less of an issue. You might be paying $20 for the ride but we might only be getting $5. And when it is like that, as you can see, anything negative about your ride makes us want to cancel it. The other thing would be the company giving us the FULL upfront details about the ride before we accept it. As it is now they basically give us limited info in order to try to "trick" us into accepting your ride. Then they figure we are less likely to cancel it because we "committed" already. But really you the customer would have FAR less problems if the company just gave us the details upfront and was honest about it.

Lilly was thirsty so she ordered a cocktail, which came with a thyme sprig. Lilly does not like earthy herbs, so what does Lilly do?, well of course she sends it back. She is "allergic", oh no. This "allergy" of having an underdeveloped palate caused her to have a not so good dining experience. She had to settle for a plain pizza. The end.

What if Cosmic Rewind was in Hollywood Studios?
With so many posts and comments about whether Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind belongs in Epcot, I wondered if it could have fit in Hollywood Studios instead. Is there even a spot for it? It turns out there was a perfect one.
The queue and load/unload building fits perfectly where Star Tours and Backlot Express sit now. I took Google maps screenshots, matched the scale and overlayed the ride buildings. Fits right in, and they could have built a new properly themed facade instead of forcing it into the old Universe of Energy building. Iā€™m sure the non-show facility behind Star Tours could have been relocated.
Also, Star Tours is not much of a draw these days. Itā€™s quite old and is frequently a walk on ride, even on days when other rides have long waits. Backlot Express is nothing special. I think they should consider putting another thrill ride in this spot.

I'm 24 f and nothing is wrong with me but everyone is overly concerned about me and it's affecting my self esteem a lot lately. I get by with anything at work and my job acts like they don't want to ask too much of me when I very well could do more at work. people cater to me, people baby talk me at restaurants, give me free things and I have had people do hours worth of work on my car that was pricey for free or over 50% off, people offer to buy my groceries FOR NO REASON, people at restaurants often give me free/extra food (on many, many, many occasions)my landlords that I had never met prior have rented to me half the price of what the room is worth in this area (this has happened twice now) and even children are empathetic to me and don't act up around me because they don't like seeing me upset, I work at an elementary school and other adults use me to manipulate the kids, saying let's make "miss, my name happy and behave and make her happy and not give her a bad time, and this has caused the kids we work with to behave. a teacher I work with told me that the kids behave more when I am there and that they want to make a good impression on me. what is it about me that people can't stand upsetting me or bothering me? I have been described as very patient and I think I'm patient, so I don't think it's because people are afraid of me. I think there is something about me that people feel sorry for me and it is bothering me.

New to investing in real estate, but not new to investing. :D
I've primarily been investing in the stock market, and I'm looking to diversify my strategy with my first single family residential home. Since this will be just for me, myself, and I, I want the focus to remain that this is mainly for the real estate investment opportunity.
So I'm specifically asking about Tulsa OK, since I got accepted into the Tulsa Remote program (a government funded program incentivizing non-OK residents to relocate to Tulsa for $10K). I consider the $10K as a "coupon", and I'm trying to look at the bigger (hopefully existent) real estate investment opportunity. The $10K will surely help me lower my cost a bit, but generally speaking, is the long-term investment in Tulsa real estate worth it? (the ultimate question).
I am thinking that my budget for this is no more than $150K. Current economic climate and working for a company whose stock prices continue to plummet, I am not feeling like I can entirely count on my FT job's source of income for this decision (but life must go on). I do realize that "ideal" homes like a 3/2/2 or something would likely be better, but as a single adult with no one else to rely on, this is also way above *my* needs, and certainly not something I would want to keep up with from a tax burden perspective. As an extreme minimalist, I truly don't need anything more than likely a studio, but even a 1 bedroom house would likely be too much for me. The smaller the better for me personally.
For reference, Tulsa is at the top of my list primarily due to the $10K incentive, but by no means is it 100% certain that I want to invest there. Although the program does offer community integration as being part of the program which on a personal level, is enticing to me.
So basically, a few questions:
1) is Tulsa, OK a good real estate investment city, and if so, what may be some of that reasoning?
2) What might be the ideal home layout plan that would make sense, considering my modest budget and my goal for the home to appreciate?
3) are there any other factors I should be considering? If not Tulsa, where else might you recommend, and why?

2024.05.19 00:30 ___JennJennJenn___ Advice on my ragu

Hi! Iā€™ve spent most of the week cooking and nurturing this batch of ragu with short rib and pork butt. The meat is flaky and the sauce is beefy just like I wanted but it still tastes flat. At this point I have ~9 pints in my freezer and one in the fridge. I donā€™t know what I was expecting but I know this isnā€™t it. What can I do to punch it up? I know the obvious ones, salt, fish sauce, etc, but is there something else Iā€™m missing? I feel like this keeps happening.
And when I say Iā€™ve been cooking this shit all week, I mean it. She sat on the stove for 6+ hours on Monday. Tuesday I went to reheat and found burnt flakes popping up from the bottom so I decided to switch pots but didnā€™t have one big enough. Soooo... I strained the meat from the ā€œbrothā€ cooked that on the stove for a bit and put the meat in a slow cooker for about 6 hours (after going through it by the spoonful and cleaning out the burnt shit). The next day, I pulled out all the orange fat, cleaned up the meat because both cuts still had some fat/connective tissue and merged the two back together.
So now I have a ragu with more hours of labor than an Italian restaurant and I still donā€™t quite like it. It tastes like tomato and beef but thatā€™s it. Itā€™s not ā€˜saucyā€™ more thicker like ā€¦ jeeze idk
Any ideas on what I can do? I definitely have enough for experimenting cause I canā€™t give this shit to the neighbors.
Editing: I deglazed the pan at one point with red wine that I had frozen. I do think yā€™all might be right about the acid though.

Hello everyone,
I recently got married and my wife and I chose to spend our honeymoon in Italy šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹. Before the trip I decided to learn some Italian and downloaded Duolingo for the first time. For the next ten months I studied everyday with the app (and used some other resources) and I was surprised at how much I actually learned. During our trip I was able to order food at restaurants, ask questions, read signs, and make small talk with locals. I am definitely not fluent but I do feel like having a little knowledge of the language for our trip made it 10x better and I plan on doing the same thing for our future trips as well. For those wondering: I am currently on Section 3 Unit 70 of the Italian course I used Duolingo about 30 minutes per day, took an online Italian class, and listened to numerous episodes of the podcast Coffee Break Italian to prepare for our trip

Personally I think the bottle prices are incredibly reasonable, and they have a pretty solid selection across the board. Youā€™ve got some of the stereotypical wine list ā€œtropes,ā€ such as Belle Glos and Orin Swift, but youā€™ve got to expect that at many non-wine-focused restaurants. However the Italian options are pretty good for a smaller restaurant with a moderately-sized list, in my opinion.
We went with the Timorasso tonight and it was fantastic! One of the best Italian whites Iā€™ve had in a while.

Someone posted a while back about the cost of scallops and fettuccini being $24 and burger being $17. These are high prices and someone else commented that these are restaurant prices.
Well when you go to a restaurant someone else is preparing the food for you and doing this dishes for you. Price at home should not be same as restaurant unless ingredients at home are far superior.
Opinions on the premium options - are they high quality, are they worth it?

Im not sure what to do. I work 2 jobs, 1 as a server at a cafe in the mornings, they don't offer benefits other than half off food and items from the market downstairs that is owned by the same person. I work there Mondays Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays so the tips aren't great because they are not the busiest days. Also I get paid bi weekly there. At night I work at another restaurant as a food runner. They have me locked into that position and I hate it, it's not at all what I want to do. I have spoken up multiple times about it and they just keep telling me later down the line but l've seen them bring in other servers and other bussers. The pay at my night job is pretty good for being a food runner and is what I pay my bills with. Aside from that they also offer benefits such as health dental and vision. The insurance is honestly what is keeping me from leaving this job. Our provider is Cigna and they have covered most of my medical and vision expenses from this year already. They also offer a 401k after a year of employment which I am coming up on. The problem I am having is that I was just reffered to a server position at an Italian job. They would need me to work nights so I would have to either quit my cafe job and rearrange my food runner schedule to only mornings, keep the benefits but receive a lower pay because obviously the mornings don't get as busy as nights. Or I would have to accept the new job offer as a server at the Italian spot, quit my food runner job and lose the benefits but receive higher pay at the Italian spot. A higher pay is important to me because I live il expensive city.
Health insurance is also important to me because I have had an undiagnosed lump in my throat for a while now. Let me know what you would do

2024.05.18 23:36 Adventurous4Burritos Things to do at WDW Resort that are not the theme parks?

My husband and I are running the Dopey Challenge in Jan 2025.
We don't want to visit the theme parks on race days for several reasons (early mornings, keeping steps relatively low, recovery etc.) but will be spending time in them after the race. I'd prefer to hobble around slowly after my races than ruin myself for my races!
So my question is, what are everyone's recommended resort activities or places for us to visit during the marathon weekend race days that aren't any of the theme parks? It is probably worth mentioning that we don't have kids that we need to keep entertained, just us child-like adults. We are staying at All-Star Music, so anything easy to get to from there. I haven't stayed on property before so I don't know what transport is like to all areas of the resort from the hotels, so I apologise if it is a bit of a silly question.
Also, I would love to hear any restaurant recommendations for pre- and post-marathon meals in Disney Springs (or anywhere else on property worth giving a try).
