2024.05.19 07:46 bazmonkey A prometheus exporter for pi-hole version 6

I just wanted to share a prometheus exporter I've been working on that uses the new API in the version 6 beta of pi-hole:
https://github.com/bazmonk/pihole6_exporter
I've also got a dashboard that uses most of the metrics. I just updated the screenshots but the dashboard listing is slow to update. If you click on it in the next few hours and only see one screenshot, that's the old one.
Why another pihole exporter? People have written a bunch already...
Two reasons: first, I couldn't find one that uses the new API in the upcoming version 6. It's undergone a lot of changes. This one uses HTTPS and possibly an app token.
Second, an annoying thing I find in a lot of the existing exporters is that they only provide the per-24h stats that the admin dashboard mostly uses. Tracking that number over time is useless. You see a lot of the "ads blocked over time" graphs are jagged lines instead of increasing ones... that's because they're actually reporting the ads blocked over the last 24h (to the hour), which makes it jump down every hour and never go up overall. With only rolling 24h stats it's difficult/impossible to derive what was actually happening over time.
So, in addition to reporting those numbers (for use as quick-stats), I'm also collecting the counts of queries by [client, type, status, response, upstream destination] per minute, so that you can actually look up how many queries of some kind happened over arbitrary amounts of time, as opposed to merely what the 24h count was at that time. You can look at the cumulative stats and aggregate stats-over-time for the hour, the week, etc. It's simply more useful data.
What's Prometheus?
It's a system for gathering metrics (numerical data) off computers and putting it into a time-series database for analyzing and looking for trends/problems/etc. Usually it's used along with grafana (a web app for making pretty graphs and dashboards based off that data), and it's often used alongside Loki (a similar system for gathering log data). Folks also use it to generate alerts (e.g. I get slack alerts if I have updates available, or if a user is logged in, or if available memory is too low or CPU pressure too high too long).
While you can host your own prometheus/loki/grafana servers (it's open-source), Grafana also offers a cloud service that hosts it for you. The free plan (free-free: don't gotta give them payment method or anything) is plenty of space for a few raspberry pi and their logs. They also offer Grafana Alloy, an agent that handles sending up your data securely so you don't have to deal with that aspect. AND, they have a pre-built Raspberry Pi integration that is pre-configured and ready to go.
Aaaanyway, any feedback is welcome!

🔗Breathable Gray Lightweight Car Cover for Snow

https://preview.redd.it/3sb4jepzmb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=932dcf0f506db0e80819d7fd7bceb9769919127e
I recently purchased the Budge Lite Car Cover, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer for me. First off, the material is super lightweight and breathable, which means my car doesn't get all stuffy under there. Plus, it's easy to handle and store when I'm not using it.
One thing that really stood out to me is how well it fits my car. The elastic hem ensures a snug fit, so even on a windy day, it stays put. And speaking of wind, the antenna patch is a nice touch that keeps my antenna safe and sound.
Now, let's talk about some drawbacks. While the cover does a decent job of keeping most things like dust and leaves off my car, it's not entirely waterproof. After a rain, I noticed some water seeping in, which was a bit disappointing.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this Budge Lite Car Cover. It's lightweight, easy to handle, and provides a nice snug fit for my car. If you're looking for something to protect your vehicle from the elements, this might just be the perfect cover for you.

🔗Universal Fit Car Windshield Snow Cover and Side Mirror Covers

https://preview.redd.it/f6d5x240nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=285410d0828db6e6deb04f87d3caa99d69b762d1
I recently tried the Asz Car Windshield Cover for Ice and Snow, and I have to say, it made my winters so much more convenient. The thickened material is excellent at keeping out snow and ice, and I love that it comes with side mirror covers for added protection. The magnetic embedded design means it's super easy to put on and take off, which is a game-changer when I'm in a hurry.
However, one minor issue is that it's a little bulky, so it's not the most space-efficient option out there. Overall, I highly recommend the Asz Car Windshield Cover for anyone looking to simplify their winter mornings! .

🔗All-Weather Heavy Duty Car Cover for Sedans

https://preview.redd.it/tzpw7sl0nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=129bb66cdaf87d2c75f1775f74081db2f1a7e0d1
Last fall, I got my hands on the Armor All Heavy Duty Premium Car Cover for my sedan, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. The first thing that caught my attention was its promise of all-weather protection. Living in a region with unpredictable weather, this was a godsend! The cover's heavy-duty material and strong stitching have indeed safeguarded my car against various unpredictable conditions, from sudden downpours to blistering sun.
One feature that stood out was the cover's breathable material. I was concerned about moisture buildup causing mold and mildew on my vehicle's finish. However, the Armor All cover has proven effective in preventing such issues, making it worth every penny. Additionally, the cover's 6-point high wind protection system ensures that it stays in place during stormy days, providing me with a peace of mind I never had with my previous covers.
However, there is a small con. The cover can be cumbersome to carry around due to its size and weight. A built-in storage bag or a slightly lighter design would have been a great addition. Despite this downside, I find the Armor All Heavy Duty Premium Car Cover to be an excellent investment for any car owner who values their vehicle's appearance and needs dependable protection against harsh weather elements.

🔗Budge Lite Car Cover for Sedans Up to 16'8

https://preview.redd.it/1lelklw0nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fef3706a6bdc7c67ccf50471a0e55a0fecc9a7ed
I can't stress enough how crucial it is to protect your car from the elements, and the Budge Lite Car Cover has been a lifesaver in this regard. As someone who keeps their vehicle in a garage with a metal roof, I know all too well how dust, soot, and debris can accumulate and cause damage to a car's finish. I've been using this cover for over five years on multiple cars, and it's been a game-changer. I've been amazed at how effectively it keeps my car clean and dust-free, even in a very dirty environment.
The key to keeping my cars in pristine condition is constant maintenance and proper storage. I make sure to cover my vehicle each time I park it, and I've found that the Budge Lite Car Cover is the perfect solution for my needs. The single layer of polypropylene is lightweight and easy to use, making it an ideal choice for indoor storage and occasional outdoor usage against dust, dirt, and debris.
One of the standout features of this car cover is its breathability. Constructed with a single layer of polypropylene, the Budge Lite Cover allows air to circulate, which helps to reduce condensation. This is particularly important for preventing mold and mildew from forming on your car's surfaces. Additionally, the elasticized hem and built-in grommets secure the cover all-year round, ensuring that it stays in place even during strong winds.
I've also used the car cover outside on weekends or for temporary coverings, and I've been impressed with its ability to keep my car dry and spotless, even in heavy rainstorms. The water just beads up and rolls off, which is a testament to the quality of the material.
However, I will say that the fit can vary since it's a universal cover, so sometimes it might be too tight or too loose, depending on your car's size and shape. And despite being lightweight and easy to clean with just a hose, some users may find that the lack of a soft inner lining can catch dust and other debris, which could scratch your car's finish.
Overall, the Budge Lite Car Cover is a fantastic product that's perfect for indoor storage and occasional outdoor use. Its lightweight design and breathability make it a great choice for keeping your car clean and protected from the elements, and the additional features, like the elasticized hem and built-in grommets, make it a secure and user-friendly option. At its budget-friendly price point, this car cover is a no-brainer for anyone looking to protect their vehicle from dust, debris, and damage.

🔗High Quality 3-Layer Car Cover with UV Protection

https://preview.redd.it/ovqoqjf1nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ccd5246809f4cb664c243f5bfacca4520b4cf00
I recently purchased the Leader Accessories Car Cover for my vehicle, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations. The three-layer fabric is incredibly breathable, providing excellent air circulation which has helped to keep my car dry and free from moisture damage.
One feature that truly stands out is the UV protection it offers, ensuring my vehicle's paint remains safe from those harmful sunrays. Additionally, the elastic hem provides a snug fit, keeping the cover in place even during windy conditions due to its attached strap and buckle.
However, despite its many great qualities, I found that the cover doesn't seem to offer much resistance to dust. Nonetheless, the package it comes in is convenient and includes an easy-to-use storage bag.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Leader Accessories Car Cover, especially for those seeking a reliable, well-fitting cover with outstanding UV protection!

🔗Durable All-Weather Car Cover with Door Zipper & Reflective Stripes

https://preview.redd.it/9q8exfq1nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6c9c2652918a821704adb6cb2015d24e32b6759
I recently stumbled upon the Nilight Waterproof Car Cover and decided to give it a shot. What caught my eye was its premium 210T Oxford cloth, which I can confirm is both lightweight and incredibly durable. The fabric is waterproof, heat insulating, and breathable, making it perfect for all weather conditions.
One feature that stood out is the unique door zipper on the driver's side - it allows me quick and convenient access to my car without having to remove the entire cover. Additionally, the windproof straps and elastic hem help keep the cover snug even in strong winds, and the combination lock offers added security.
One downside I noticed is that while the reflective stripes are great for visibility at night, they can be a bit overly bright and reflective during the day when you're driving.
Overall, this all-weather car cover has done a great job protecting my car from the elements, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, reliable solution to keep their vehicle clean and safe from the elements.

🔗Favoto Waterproof All-Weather Sedan Car Cover

https://preview.redd.it/uaklsf42nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8952a02b07290c0a20c8e1224a77a2ca4059fb18
I want to talk about my car cover experience, especially with the Favoto All-Weather Sedan Car Cover. As a car owner, I've learned the importance of protecting my vehicle from the harsh elements, both natural and man-made. The Favoto cover has been a game-changer for me.
Firstly, the driver's side zipper design is such a convenience. It makes getting in and out of the car a breeze, even when it's covered. The night reflection stripes are an added bonus - they make sure my car's contour is visible even in the dark, reducing the risk of accidents.
The Favoto cover is made of heavy-duty, 5-layer material that's both durable and waterproof. The cotton lining ensures no scratches on my car's paint. Unlike some other covers made of PE and PEVA, this one won't tear easily.
The best part? This cover provides comprehensive protection against all types of weather elements, from dust and snow to acid rain, bird droppings, and even pollution. And let's not forget about securing it - the elasticated edge along with the 4 securing straps under the car keep it in place, even on windy days.
In the real world, your car can face potential damages from weather, animals, and even people. Car covers like this one are a great investment to keep your car safe and sound. The Favoto All-Weather Sedan Car Cover offers excellent protection against all these threats.
And finally, I must mention how easy it is to store and carry this cover. It folds neatly into its storage bag and doesn't take up much space. This makes it perfect for those times when you need to take your cover with you.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a high-quality, all-weather car cover that's easy to use and provides complete protection, the Favoto All-Weather Sedan Car Cover is definitely worth considering.

🔗Motor Trend Snow-Proof Car Cover with Storage Bag and Lock

https://preview.redd.it/1p5kduo2nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=190fce66b0c3d35b99185416c27c2c2085a3b8e1
I recently got my hands on the Motor Trend All Season Weatherwear 1-Poly Layer Snow Proof, Water Resistant Car Cover Size XL1 - Fits Up to 210". Having a car that's subjected to harsh weather conditions, I was in need of something that could offer protection and durability. Since trying it out, I must say I am pleasantly surprised.
This cover has an extra durable polyester construction which indeed stands up well against various elements including snow, dust, wind, UV rays, and even minor scratchings. Not to mention, it also keeps the interior cool on sunny days. It even comes with a free storage bag and lock, which is a nice addition.
However, on the flip side, the material seems to be quite thin despite its claims. This might be a concern in areas with extreme wind conditions as it could potentially tear. Additionally, although the elastic hem at the bottom provides a snug fit, I found it a bit of a struggle to put on and remove.
In conclusion, the Motor Trend All Season Weatherwear Car Cover is a great option for those in search of an affordable, all-season car cover. While it may not be the most robust option out there, it gets the job done in terms of protecting your vehicle from most common weather conditions.

FAQ

1. What are the benefits of using a car cover in the snow?

Car covers provide protection against snow, ice, and harsh winter elements, preventing damage to your vehicle's paint, windows, and other components. They also keep your car warm and dry, save time on defrosting or scraping ice, and help maintain your vehicle's value and appearance.

2. How do car covers help in removing snow?

https://preview.redd.it/paa1rxs3nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ca1cb7d978070cd52c41efdff6183ee35f81259
Car covers prevent snow from accumulating on your vehicle, which means there's less snow to remove when you use the cover. It's generally easier and quicker to brush off a car cover than to scrape ice off your vehicle's surface.

3. How do I choose the right car cover for my vehicle?

In addition to fit, consider factors like material, thickness, waterproofing, UV protection, and ease of use. Some covers are more durable, better at shedding water, or easier to put on and take off. You may also want to consider options with added features like integrated straps and grommets for enhanced security.

4. What materials are best for winter car covers?

Look for materials that offer good waterproofing and insulation, as well as resistance to UV damage. Common materials for car covers include polyester, polypropylene, and polyethylene. Some higher-end covers may also incorporate layers of microfiber or fleece for added insulation and protection.

https://preview.redd.it/v9jt7af4nb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28f81788a633f31452570e59e3bc750c2b33d92c

5. How do I install a car cover for snow protection?

Before installing the cover, clear your vehicle of snow and ice. Place the cover over your car, making sure it covers all necessary areas (including the roof, windows, and mirrors). Secure the cover by using built-in straps, grommets, or clips provided with the cover. Make sure all edges are snug and free of gaps to ensure the best protection from snow and ice.

6. Can car covers be used for long-term storage in cold weather?

Yes, car covers can be used to protect your vehicle from the harsh elements during long-term storage in the winter. Make sure the cover is properly fitted, secured, and periodically checked for any damage or wear. In addition to the cover, use a suitable storage location that provides protection from moisture, wind, and other environmental factors.

7. Are car covers resistant to ice accumulation and damage?

The best-quality car covers are designed to be water-resistant and windproof, reducing the risk of ice accumulation and damage. However, it's still important to remove accumulated snow and ice from the cover promptly, especially after significant snowfalls, to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance.

8. How often should I clean my car cover in the winter?

Car covers should be cleaned periodically to ensure they remain effective at protecting your vehicle. In winter, this may mean more frequent cleanings to remove salt, grime, and other debris. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning and maintenance, as some materials may require specific care instructions.

9. Can I use the same car cover for summer and winter protection?

While some car covers are designed to provide year-round protection, not all will offer optimal performance in both summer and winter. Materials that are breathable and lightweight may be ideal for hot weather, while thicker, more insulated materials can be better for protecting your vehicle in the cold and snow. Consider the specific needs and conditions of your region and vehicle when selecting a cover that will provide the best protection throughout the year.

10. How can I store my car cover when not in use?

Car covers should be properly stored and maintained to prolong their lifespan. After removing the cover from your vehicle, gently brush off any loose snow, dirt, or debris. Fold or roll the cover neatly, and store it in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area to prevent mildew or damage from moisture. Following manufacturer's instructions on storage can also help keep your cover in optimal condition for extended use.

2024.05.19 07:42 whosevelt Question about the book of Ruth (and a partial theory)

I've seen numerous commentators pointing out various parallels between the story of Judah and Tamar in Genesis, and the story of Ruth. The obvious parallels are obvious: both involve young widows who seem to have limited prospects, who, through careful planning, end up in clan-connected unions, a child of which is a forebears of the Davidic dynasty.
But on a closer reading, it seems pretty clear to me that it goes further than that: the book of Ruth is a deliberate re-imagining of the story of Judah and Tamar, similar to the way modern authors might take key elements from a Greek myth and re-set it in a modern city. I'm out of my depth here on the literary side, but I'm thinking of like, Pygmalion (ancient version) becoming My Fair Lady, or Perseus becoming Percy Jackson. And like other reimaginings, a lot of the substance of book lies in the aspects of the source material that the later author chooses to subvert.
One example I can give to illustrate the point, despite typing this out on my phone... In chapter 1, Naomi tells Ruth and Orpah to go back to their mothers' homes. Initially, they intend to disregard her and accompany her back to Bethlehem. Then Naomi says, (paraphrase), do I have sons in my belly that will marry you someday? If I met a man now, and got pregnant tonight and bore sons, would you wait around until they're grown so they can marry you?
Now, on its face, Naomi's comment makes no sense. Why would Ruth and Orpah have to wait until she had children in order to remarry? Naomi does not contemplate that they'd have difficulty marrying if they were to stay in Moab - in fact, she wishes them peace with their future husbands. And, as the story indicates later on, Ruth at least seems to have been a desirable match. Boaz notices her immediately upon his arrival at the harvest, and then warns his workers not to harass her. Later, he praises Ruth for ignoring the Bethlehemite "youths, whether rich or poor." (Ch. 3).
In part, Naomi's reference to this hypothetical marriage to her nonexistent children seems to foreshadow the quasi-levirate marriage at the end of the story, when Boaz marries Ruth to "establish the name of the deceased on his estate." But in itself, even that makes no sense - if Naomi were to remarry and have children, the children from another man would not be part of Elimelekh's clan, and there would be no connection to Elimelekh's or Mahlon's estates.
Rather, Naomi's speech is a clear reference to and subversion of the story of Judah and Tamar. She tells Ruth to return to her parents' home because there is nobody to carry out the levirate marriage, just the way Judah told Tamar to return to her parents' home because there was nobody to carry out the levirate marriage, since Shelah was too young. That's why Naomi specifically emphasizes that it would be ridiculous to wait around until the nonexistent children get older. Because it recalls Judah, who had no intention of allowing Tamar to marry Shelah, but dismissed Tamar on the claim that Shelah was too young, leaving Tamar in widow's clothing at her parents' home indefinitely. Precisely unlike Judah, who lied to Tamar and sent her off to indefinite widowhood at her parents' house, Naomi tries to send Ruth back to her parents' house out of concern for Ruth's wellbeing, but fails to convince Ruth, who stays to care for her mother in law.
If this theory is correct, it could also shed some light on another open question. Interpreters debate the threshing floor scene where Ruth approaches a sleeping Boaz and uncovers his feet. Is this a euphemism for sex? Did Ruth intend to seduce Boaz? Did Naomi instruct Ruth to seduce Boaz, also euphemistically, when she said, "do what he tells you to do?"
To interpret this scene, we need to look at the parallel scene in the story of Judah and Tamar. In that story, Tamar, still a young widow in her father's house, knows that Shelah has come of age, and she has not been summoned to marry him. She hears that Judah is heading out to shear the sheep (where, presumably, he will be outside of his normal routine, and more easily accessible to an outsider, like Boaz on the threshing floor). So she doffs her widow's garb, and puts on a veil, and waits by the crossroads near the town where Judah is headed.
Now, I always thought that in the story, Tamar posed as a prostitute. But that's not actually what the Bible says. In fact, if the story ended after Tamar stationed herself at the crossroads in a veil, you would say, well, I guess she was waiting there to confront Judah, who wouldn't let her marry Shelah and wouldn't free her from her widowhood. It was not that Tamar posed as a prostitute. Judah assumed she was a prostitute because she was a woman out in public and he didn't know who she was. Coming back to Boaz's threshing floor, where the men sleep at the end of the harvest, away from their families and routines: Boaz is satiated and drunk and there's a woman all done up in nice clothing and fragrant oil edging up to him. He doesn't know who she is, and, given the circumstances, could certainly be excused for thinking she was a prostitute. But he doesn't make that mistake. Why not? Because he does something that apparently did not occur to Judah: he asks Ruth, who are you? I don't want to be anachronistic but this genuinely seems to be the authorial intent: Boaz sees Ruth, and treats her, as a human. He allows her to spend the night rather than walking alone at night, then times her departure so that she is not humiliated coming back into town. Knowing she is poor, he sends her off with abundant grain. This scene too subverts the parallel in Genesis, where Judah misperceived Tamar as a prostitute and slept with her despite not having money on him to pay. Boaz did not misperceive Ruth, and although Naomi left open the possibility, the omission of any mention of sex is intentional - there wasn't any sex because Boaz acted appropriate and there was a closer relative who had priority.
In closing, I have two questions: First, is anyone aware of modern academic analysis along these lines? Second, what are people's thoughts on this reading of Ruth in light of Genesis? I could give ten more examples of parallels, but this is a limited medium... I do think the ones I chose to highlight are among the most compelling.

🔗Mini Car Ball Compass with Accurate Pointing

As someone who's always on the road, I can't tell you how often I've needed a reliable compass to guide me. The KANPAS V28 Mini Automotive Dashboard Car Ball Compass has been a game-changer for me. It's no liquid leaking housing design gives me peace of mind knowing it won't fail in harsh conditions. Plus, its shockproof and waterproof features make it perfect for off-road adventures.
One of the standout features of this compass is how it reads - opposite to traditional pointers which can sometimes be confusing. It's straightforward to use and even has an interesting installation process that involves tearing off double-sided tape.
However, there's a special reminder with this compass: ensure you confirm the correct direction outside the car before finding a suitable location inside the car. Also, avoid iron and magnetic items in the car from affecting the ball compass reading. Despite these small caveats, the KANPAS V28 Mini Automotive Dashboard Car Ball Compass is definitely worth considering for your navigation needs.

🔗Illuminated Commander Compass with Automatic MVA

https://preview.redd.it/9591fh21mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a3c4c87c4f653d8436d2b0f953ccb3da550a81c
Bell Automotive's Illuminated Commander Compass is my go-to companion when navigating through the night. The automatic Magnetic Variation Adjustment (MVA) keeps me on track, with an easy mount on either the dash or windshield. Its light-up feature is especially useful during those late-night drives when the sun has tucked itself in for the night.
While the compass is generally reliable and easy to use, I had a couple of hiccups during its installation. The suction cups that came with it didn't work quite as expected on my vehicle's vinyl dash, so I had to resort to a bit of glue to secure it properly. Additionally, the light button seemed a tad finicky and occasionally stopped working for no apparent reason. However, I appreciated the fact that I could still see the readings even when the light was off.
Despite some minor issues, the overall experience with Bell Automotive's Illuminated Commander Compass has been quite positive. Its ability to keep me headed in the right direction, especially during nighttime adventures, has been a real lifesaver. If you're in the market for a reliable compass to navigate your drive, this one is definitely worth considering. Just be prepared to get creative with the installation process to ensure optimal performance in your specific vehicle.

🔗Custom Accessories Low Profile LED Compass

https://preview.redd.it/is8x7ak1mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d991b39bb3dbb540243aa9eeb809a35451b86d
I recently purchased a Low Profile Lighted LED Compass for my car, and while I had high hopes, my experience wasn't quite as smooth as I'd hoped. The best part of this compass is undoubtedly its sleek and low-profile design; it looks far more expensive than it actually is. Plus, the lighted dial makes reading the compass at night a breeze.
However, the compass's primary function - accurately pointing to the north - just doesn't seem to work for me. Regardless of where I place it in my car or what direction I'm driving, the compass consistently points to the east or northwest, which makes it practically useless.
I wouldn't necessarily say that this compass is a waste of money, as it does have a cool backlit display and a compact design. But if you're looking for an actual functional compass to use while driving, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. For $8, I guess you get what you pay for, but it's disappointing that something as simple as a compass can't handle a little interference from my car's electronics.

🔗Personalized Dash Compass for Your Car Journeys

https://preview.redd.it/6qa7yup1mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65b526c209e866f39de3e6cd272c60d1fffa7efc
I recently added the Victor Products Inc Suction Cup Mini Compass to my car and it's been a game-changer for me on my roughest routes. The free-floating ball and liquid damping ensure quick settling, making navigation a breeze even when the road ahead gets bumpy. I love how the large letters make for easy reading at any angle, and the suction cup attaches easily to my windshield for quick access.
The mini-size and suction cup feature make this compass incredibly portable, making it perfect for camping trips or weekend getaways. I also appreciate the sleek black color that matches my car's interior perfectly. However, I did have one issue: the compass tends to stick on one direction, which can be a bit frustrating at times.
Overall, I'm happy with the Victor Products Inc Suction Cup Mini Compass and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable navigation tool for their car. The quick settling and easy-reading features make it stand out from the rest, despite a minor problem we encountered with the compass direction.

🔗Dashboard Compass Ball for Car or Boat

https://preview.redd.it/4nnj2272mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=385ea30f48a98b7041777d06643edee75b966554
I recently got my hands on the RINGGLO Car Compass Ball and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my navigation needs while driving. The high-quality ABS plastic material not only makes it sturdy but also gives it a sleek look that complements my car's interior perfectly.
One of the things I love about this compass is its wide applicability - not just for cars, but also for boats, trucks, and caravans. Its easy-to-use design and self-adhesive mount make it incredibly convenient to install wherever you need it most. Plus, its compact size means it doesn't take up much space on your dashboard.
However, there are a few cons to note as well. Firstly, the compass requires a horizontal position to ensure accurate readings, which might be challenging when driving over bumps or uneven surfaces. Secondly, it's advisable to keep the compass away from magnetic sources to maintain its accuracy, which could be inconvenient at times.
In conclusion, the RINGGLO Car Compass Ball is an excellent tool for navigation, especially if you're looking for something stylish and functional. Its wide applicability and easy installation make it a valuable addition to any vehicle. Just remember to follow the guidelines provided to get the most out of this innovative compass.

🔗SOL Lensatic Compass with Flip-Up Lens

https://preview.redd.it/yqz2krf2mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f20ee1bcf25afb720fc2049f0146160876d57da
I recently had the chance to test out the Sol Lensatic Compass, and I must say, it's a game-changer when it comes to navigating on outdoor trips. The compass is incredibly lightweight, making it perfect for backpacking and hiking adventures. The lensatic design allows for precise readings, and the large, luminous directional letters make it easy to read even in low light conditions.
One of the standout features of this compass is its durability. The sturdy synthetic housing provides ample protection for the compass, while also making it easy to grip and maneuver. Additionally, the included cover acts as an extra layer of protection and helps make sighting easier.
However, there are a few cons to consider. The magnetic floating compass can be somewhat difficult to ensure it's pointing north due to the thick liquid inside. Additionally, the grip on the heading dial is not as effective as it could be, making it a bit challenging to rotate.
Overall, the SOL Lensatic Compass is an excellent navigation tool for those who love the outdoors. Its lightweight design and precise readings make it perfect for hiking, camping, and hunting adventures. While there are a few minor drawbacks, these are easily outweighed by its many positive features.

🔗Illuminated Compass for Automobiles

https://preview.redd.it/1f5pfvt2mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f9101f2a9909ef3b63505f783b3f1ec117f84b6
I recently got the chance to try out Bell Automotive's Lighted Compass and overall, it was quite an interesting experience. The mounting options were really user-friendly with suction cups for the windshield and adhesive tape for the dashboard, making it easy to install without causing any damage.
One of the standout features was its unique disc-style floating dial and liquid damping, which proved incredibly useful in quickly settling the compass over bumpy roads. The display of eight directional points was also a definite plus, although I wish there was a way to illuminate the dial for night driving without having to hold the button down continuously.
However, there are a few drawbacks that I experienced. First off, the compass struggled to provide accurate readings due to interference from the vehicle's metal elements, even when used outside the car. Additionally, the adhesive tape didn't hold up well in hot weather, causing the compass to lose its positioning.
In conclusion, while the Bell Automotive Lighted Compass does have some interesting features, you might want to consider its inconsistencies before making a purchase. On the other hand, if you're primarily looking for a compass to use outside your car, or you drive a vehicle with minimal metal components, this compass might prove useful.

🔗Car Compass Ball Dashboard Mount (Black)

https://preview.redd.it/hmeyr353mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d1279411e54049aaaf500634c7eea3b5ebcd3c2
When I first bought the 2pcs Car Vehicle Compass Ball Dashboard Self Adhesive Mount Navigation, I was skeptical about its accuracy and usability. But after using it for a few trips, I must say it has become an essential tool for navigation. The smooth and brightly colored surface along with the automatic rotation feature make it a breeze to follow the direction. It's perfect for those who prefer a more traditional method of navigation and it certainly adds a touch of retro charm to my car.
One downside is that the compass can be a little sensitive to magnetic fields, so I have to be careful about where I place it. Additionally, direct sunlight might affect its performance, so I usually keep it tucked away when I'm parked under the sun.
Overall, this compass mount has greatly enhanced my driving experience with its clear readout, easy installation, and stylish design. It's a reliable and affordable tool that's a must-have for any vehicle.

🔗Durable Military Tritium Lensatic Compass

https://preview.redd.it/dd5gsyi3mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a74ec1ddcf1c83641001a578ee54f23b7174b8a1
I recently got my hands on the Cammenga Official US Military Tritium Lensatic Compass Clam Pack 3HCS, and let me tell you, it's a game changer for anyone who loves spending time outdoors. As an avid camper and hiker, I've relied on GPS and other digital tools in the past, but there's just something about having a reliable, physical compass that you can trust in a pinch.
This compass is built like a tank, with a sturdy metal housing that keeps it shockproof. It's also designed to withstand water, sand, and extreme temperatures, making it perfect for any adventure you can throw at it. One of my favorite features is the lens for magnification and the sighting wire for precise readings - these little details make all the difference when you're trying to navigate unfamiliar terrain.
Now, let's talk about those dependable dial graduations. They have both mils and degrees for easy reading, and the mil-radians give you a high level of accuracy in your plotting and measuring. But the real star of the show is the tritium illumination, which provides you with a clear view of the compass in low light or darkness, without needing any external light sources.
However, no product is perfect, and this compass does have some drawbacks. The belt clip on the carrying case is a bit flimsy, and it broke a few times during my tests. Additionally, the lens can be a bit difficult to focus, especially in low light conditions.
Despite these minor issues, I wholeheartedly recommend the Cammenga Official US Military Tritium Lensatic Compass Clam Pack 3HCS to anyone who wants a reliable, accurate, and durable compass for their next outdoor adventure. Just make sure you keep an eye on that belt clip and bring along some spare batteries for your other electronic gear!

🔗Bell Suction Cup Mini Compact Car Compass - Black

https://preview.redd.it/vyx489u3mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=842db8e90d18a547c139fba240fe6a8e59c33672
I recently purchased the Bell Suction Cup Mini Compass and it's been an interesting addition to my vehicle. The compact design is perfect for mounting it on my windshield, and the free-floating ball and liquid damping help it settle quickly over bumpy roads.
One thing I really appreciate about this compass is how easy it is to read. The large letters ensure that I can see the direction even when I'm not directly facing the compass. However, one downside is that the suction cup occasionally falls off if the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight. No big deal, though, as it's easy to reattach.
Another standout feature of the Bell Suction Cup Mini Compass is its low cost. It may not be the most high-tech compass out there, but for the price, it works great. If you're looking for a simple, affordable solution to help you orient yourself while driving, this compass is definitely worth considering.

🔗Bell Automotive Digital Compass and Mirror Mount

https://preview.redd.it/5mqps884mb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da01837cb5647888ed1357b4d553304ca50360dd
I recently installed the Bell Automotive 22-1-29001-8 Digital Compass on my car's existing rear view mirror, and I've found it incredibly useful for long road trips. The device provides an effortless calibration process and efficiently displays 8 directional points without taking up much space on the mirror.
One of my favorite features of this compass is its ability to connect with my car's touchscreen via a display light function. This has made navigation far simpler, especially during nighttime driving. However, I have experienced some difficulties with the compass occasionally, mainly regarding its readability in bright sunlight.
Another drawback worth mentioning is the compass's accuracy issues, which seem to arise more frequently when installed in certain vehicles, such as my friend's Toyota Corolla. Fortunately, in my car, the compass has been working perfectly fine and has even helped me avoid getting lost on several occasions.
In summary, if you're looking for a compact and feature-rich digital compass that doesn't obstruct your view while driving, the Bell Automotive 22-1-29001-8 Digital Compass might be worth considering. Just remember to consider its readability and accuracy limitations before making a purchase decision.

2024.05.19 07:35 Stabittha Five Utterly Bizarre Wedding Stories (feat. fire sprinklers, broken limbs, and an unexpected free honeymoon)

Every time Charlotte shares some crazy wedding stories I reflect on my own crazy wedding experiences. Here are some of them.
The first time I was ever a bridesmaid, we had a religious ceremony, a break in the middle, and a reception in the evening. I spent hours setting up reception decorations in the hot sun with all the other hardworking bridesmaids. One of the groomsmen showed up to the reception with a broken arm. I asked him about this because he’d definitely had two functional arms that morning. While we were working hard, he ran off and played basketball and injured his arm in the process.
My mom was late to her own wedding because her sisters, who were supposed to do her hair, were busy watching Oprah. She eventually gave up waiting and curled it herself. Meanwhile my poor dad is stressed out of his mind because he thinks he’s getting left at the altar. He’d been previously married and had written in his diary the night before, “I’m getting married again tomorrow. I hope it works this time.” When she finally showed up, she gave her car keys to my uncle, who drove off with them. They were stuck waiting on a park bench for him to get home (in the days before cell phones) so they could call him and tell him to come back.
My friend “Tina” married her older sister’s ex-boyfriend. The sister and the groom had dated in high school, and by that point, the older sister had long since moved on with life and got married. There were no hard feelings on either side. Tina’s a little wild and thought it would be fun to jump into a pull fully clothed at her wedding. She then changed out of her wet wedding dress, so she’s not distinguishable by her outfit. As everyone was cleaning up after the reception, the groom wandered into the room and saw his wife bending over to pick up a box of decorations. He grabbed her on the butt. She promptly straightened up , turned around, and he found it was not his wife at all but the older sister. All the blood drained from his face and he thought he was in so much trouble. The sister thought it was hilarious, had a good laugh about it with her own husband and Tina, and now Tina’s husband has to quietly live with the fact that the legend will go down in family history.
This isn’t technically a wedding story, but my boyfriend and I are planning on getting married next year. We’ve discussed marriage very seriously but are not engaged yet. Our reason for waiting so long is that he’s finishing up grad school and I live an hour and a half away from his college town, so it would be logistically tricky for either one of us to relocate before he graduates. Two weeks ago my friend and I thought it would be fun to go to a bridal expo to look at wedding dress styles and vendor options as early-stage wedding planning research. I entered a bunch of random sweepstakes at the expo thinking there was no way I would win. A few days later, I found out I’d won a discounted men’s wedding ring, 50% off wedding invitations, and free airfare and a hotel to a beachside honeymoon destination. I then had to explain to my boyfriend how the freak I won all this crap we don’t need yet. Then I had to hem and haw my way through conversations with customer service people. “Um yes I’d love the free invitations but I don’t know my wedding date yet?” “Uhhh how long is that free airfare good for?” And yes, the rules of the free vacation do specifically state that I have to bring him. The travel agency won’t let me use it to go with a friend. (Yes, boyfriend and I factchecked the free honeymoon and so far it seems legit, I won’t go on it until I factcheck it further.)
Best of all: my high school history teacher constantly told stories about his personal life instead of teaching history. On the morning of his wedding, both families set up camp in a hotel room near the wedding venue so they’d have a place to put all their wedding stuff. Plot point: they’re on the eleventh floor of the hotel. Because there were wedding decorations strewn all around the hotel room, the only place he could think to hang his wife’s wedding dress was on the fire sprinkler. He managed to hang it at an angle where it wouldn’t activate the sprinkler, but then his brother went to take it down and it triggered it. Black coolant foam shot out and got over everything, including the dress. The fire suppression system also alerted the local fire department, so he had to hightail it out of the hotel before they made him stick around to explain himself. He ran down eleven flights of stairs with the dress to get it cleaned. At the bottom, the bride realized he’d left the veil upstairs so he had to run back up and get it. After running up and down eleven flights again, she realized the rings were missing and made him go back. He managed to successfully evade the fire department and they were married without a hitch.
Maybe don’t hang your dress on a fire sprinkler though.

2024.05.19 07:31 PoemOpen I finally had a much needed discussion with my SO today.

I have commented here a few times but never posted. It's long so i get if you dont want to read. I just have some feelings to let out! I've been with my(27f) SO(29m) for 4 years. He has a son(12) whom I met when he was 8. I am child free and have no interest in being a mother myself. However, I felt being a stepmom/cool aunt would be fine bc I don't have that big of an issue with kids and my SO only has SK EOWE (he now keeps SK 3 weekends a month bc SO's mother can't not stick her nose where it isn't wanted) I made the mistake of trying to be too helpful at the beginning of our relationship bc I am a people pleaser who didn't know better and wound up being main caregiver every weekend SK was here due to SO's excuse of having to work. For a little while it was fine bc SO had started a new, very fruitful and life changing job and I wanted to help him succeed and i was under the impression after a while he wouldnt be expected to work them as much. I picked up SK from BM's house after my own long day/week at work every weekend my SO had custody, I would pick up food for SK, even paid for groceries for SK when SO failed to get any for the weekend, cleaned up messes and was the only ear around for SK to yap into oblivion. HUGE MISTAKE!!! After a while (like 2.5 years) of this going on, no thanks or appreciation and then getting criticism from SO's father for literally parenting SK when no one else was, I threw my hat down and said I'm done taking care of SK for SO and would step back. Last year I had started to slowly nacho and do less and less as my resentment towards both SK and SO grew larger. At this point in time, SO was CHOOSING to work these weekends instead of being required to; and choosing to pick up extra OT (an extra 8 hours on top of the 16 he is working that weekend) on some of these weekends while taking off on weekends we didnt have SK. This grinded my gears and I had a discussion with SO about how unfair it is to expect me to be completely responsible for SK when I am not his parent. That resulted in SO's mother taking SK for one weekend a month and SO apologizing and saying he won't do that anymore. Now, maybe I should have been more clear, but SO took this to mean that he could work these weekends, but no OT. That is not what I meant. I meant for SO to not work when he has SK. It came to a big head when just 2 weeks after we had our initial discussion, SO texts me from work telling me he not only had signed up for the weekend, but asked for an additional 12 HOURS that weekend since it would be extra pay for working on a holiday without talking to me on a SO custody weekend. He had the audacity to tell me "dont be mad." I lost it. I told him that this behavior was disrespectful to me and a huge slap in the face given the conversation we practically just had a fortnight ago. He apologized, said he won't do it again but it wasnt good enough for me until i saw real, consistent change. I told SO he needs to get his mother to watch SK that weekend because I will not be doing it. He tried but SO's mom was out of town. I was pissed and told him if it happened again there would be a serious change in our relationship, either I move out or we split and that he will be making up for this for a long time. Things were fine for a little over a month. SO was taking off weekends he had SK like I asked and had someone watch SK if SO wanted to work. All is good. Then this weekend came. SO signed up this weekend despite SK coming over and didn't communicate with me. I was mad but kept quiet, when I shouldn't have. Today we were talking and deciding whether to go workout today since if we did we would have to rush around before SO had to leave for work. SO said something along the lines of: SO: "what do you want, then?" Me: "for you to not go to work tonight." SO: "So we can go to the gym?" Me: "Yea....among other things.." I think he knew what I meant. I could tell his tone got defensive. I know that was passive aggressive of me but tbh we had been having some rough times lately and I was so tired of being frustrated with him so it just kinda came out. I told him the same things I had been saying: not my kid so why am I expected to take care of him? I don't mind helping but I am not SK's mother or father, he has those. This did not bode well in SO's brain because even though I stayed level headed to express myself, he immediately jumped on the defensive, got loud and told me that since I am at home that it "shouldn't be too much to expect me to watch his kid." And just no. Absolutely not. I DID NOT PUSH THIS KID OUT OF ME OR BUST A NUT IN THE WRONG PLACE!! I put my foot down and I told him straight up I did not get into this relationship to be anybody's mother and if that is what he expected of me then we will not work. After A LOT of getting him to calm down🙄🙄🙄 he began to understand what I was saying(Or at least put on a damn good show of it if not). I tried my best to make him feel that I do not hate or really even dislike his son or wish him to be gone(I prefer Sk not be here but it is what it is and I try not to have SK feel that way bc it's not his fault) but I am very resentful of the amount of work I have put in and am expected to do for a child I did not have and isnt my responsibility. I also sited his lack of communicating efficiently with me about his work schedule. I said I know I get visibly irritated when SK comes over and SO decided to ask "well if I do this will your attitude towards SK change?" Which like...what bad faith question honestly. I told him "yea, most likely, with time and consistency from you." Overall, we are doing well as of right now and I feel like things are slowly changing, which is good. Not exactly how I wanted but that's reality, ya know? I love SO very much. He is an amazing partner and is the only place I have felt safe in my life. His child is just a really tender spot for us as SO does not want to be a father but feels stuck. I understand that but we have to wake up to our reality and not just push responsibilities off onto others. I hope things will continue to get better from here but I also wouldn't be surprised if this is what eventually breaks us up if we spilt ever. Apologies for the length. I've had a lot of feelings for a while and don't have anywhere to let it out but this subreddit has really helped me understand my own feelings and feel less like I'm the bad guy for how I feel.

HBO Max's 'Batman': Or, how to adapt the insane scope of DC Comics' Batman mythos by way of a big-budget, live-action series (Part 1, the Pitch)
Hope lies in the night
Hey, there!
Been a while since I've taken a crack at this. Had one heck of a busy spring, ready to enjoy the summer and get back to writing these fun pitches.
A couple years back, I pitched the ideal setting for a modern adaptation of DC Comics. A live-action shared universe on HBO Max, telling definitive stories of DC's flagship heroes with an emphasis on specific genres.
Essentially, imagine if the CWverse and other live-action TV series were to be hypothetically replaced by one unified vision, which broadcasted on one network. In this case, HBO Max.
(Which probably means imagining Max launched a few years earlier, somewhere around 2016 or 2017)
Having dived into two of DC's iconic Trinity (Superman and Wonder Woman), it's time to round them out with the Dark Knight himself.
Batman's one heck of a juggernaut isn't he? I can't think of a medium that hasn't covered this hero. There's some definite standouts for sure, like the beloved animated series of the 90s and the masterpiece that was Christopher Nolan's trilogy.
And yet, so much of what we've gotten in live-action has just barely scratched the surface.
That's where this idea comes in. Taking the story of Batman, and adapting its sheer volume and scope on a platform big enough to cover it.
First airing in 2020, in some world other than this one, it's...
BATMAN
An HBO Max original series.
****
Premise
Picture, if you will, a series which picks up well into this hypothetical "Maxverse" I've laid out the past couple of years.
Batman is a superhero family drama spanning several years, from 2014 to 2018 in-universe. It covers a veteran Batman, and his alliance of costumed heroes, as they face several terrifying threats to their home of Gotham City.
Major inspirations for this series include runs by-
  • Frank Miller
  • Jeph Loeb
  • Judd Winick
  • Scott Snyder
  • Tom King
The story of this imagined reboot/adaptation isn't just about Batman and his family, it's about Gotham itself. Its history, the hidden players behind it, and how far its defenders are willing to go in order to protect it. Batman himself is put to the test many times, both regarding his commitment to the city and his bond with his family.
As with the rest of the stories in the Maxverse, this Batman series is slapped with a TV-MA rating. Given the subject matters often featured in Batman comics, this particular TV-MA would be earned and then some. No sanitizing or watering down to be found here, this show would be dark.
Covered in three seasons, the major arcs are
1: The personal journey of Bruce Wayne as Batman.
2: Batman's several proteges doing their best to live up to his example, while also making their own paths as heroes.
3: A slow uncovering of Gotham City's hidden history.
4: The looming question of what kind of life Bruce Wayne could live, without Batman.
Setting
Much like the Superman series of this universe dives into alternate history regarding its primary locale, so too does Batman.
As Metropolis in this setting was born from what was once New York City, Gotham sprang from what used to be Jersey City. The two cities sit across the bay from each other, sister cities and yet almost complete opposites.
Gotham is a city with one foot in the past, and another in the future. Visual and thematic inspirations for the setting could ideally draw from depictions both old-fashioned and modern. Gothic and futuristic. In many ways, Gotham could be as much a character as the lead cast themselves. Its mythology and mystery hangs heavy over the entire series, and the unraveling of its origins drives a considerable amount of the plot in Season 3.
Other locations of note could include
  • Bludhaven, a smaller city neighboring Gotham
  • 'Eth Alth'eban, lair of the feared League of Assassins
Lead Characters & Performers
Leading off the massive ensemble are the power couple that is Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. AKA Batman and Catwoman.
The actors I'd choose to portray them are well-known in geek circles. Whether they by Star Wars fans, or fans of various horrific works by Mike Flanagan.
Sam Witwer
Kate Siegel
As Batman is a family drama, Bruce and Selina are the resident patriarch and matriarch respectively.
Much like the character as featured in the DCEU, this Bruce Wayne has been in the game for a long time. In this case, twelve years. He's got a lot of scars to show for it, physical and mental, and while the Bat-family or his friends abroad in the Justice League keep him balanced, Bruce is starting to show the wear and tear of his long crusade.
Selina, for her part, is a woman who's long since left her life as a criminal behind. Having come from a marginalized background, she has seen both the best and worst of Gotham and its people. More than fighting criminals, her mission is helping the poor and oppressed of her city and giving them a better life than the one she was born into.
Background Story & Supporting Cast
As the series has a lot of history behind it, one could expect various tie-in materials to expand on said history.
  • A film or limited series adapting Year One.
  • Comics and books on the major players.
I've drafted a document detailing this abundance of lore, feel free to give it a read.
Legends of the Batman
As for the rest of the ensemble cast, I've compiled a list.
For both heroes and villains alike.
(Light spoilers by way of certain inclusions and naming, all will be elaborated on in future posts)
The Bat-Family and Allies
Enemies of the Batman
****
And that's what I got!
Happy to be back writing these posts.
Next weekend, I'm gonna finally pick back up on my revising of the MCU and other Marvel film properties.
Hope you enjoyed this! Let me know your thoughts, and how you'd even start to tackle Batman on television.

2024.05.19 07:23 Local-Sugar6556 Killua/Gon age theme-plot

What makes Killua and Gon both being preteen kids thematically significant? They (Killua in particular) display some very unchildlike traits and knowledge of moving through the world that I sometimes wonder how the story would be if they were just a little older (like they started the story at 15-16ish, maybe as teenagers like most other anime). I often find child protagonists a bit thinly written, particularly if they are that sort of creepy, smart-ass kid you see in a lot of Hollywood movies, but in HxH it just somehow seems to work. Why do you think that is? Was it just in line with conventional Shonen tropes(a genre I'm not entirely familiar with) or are them being particularly young somehow thematically significant to the plot?

2024.05.19 07:19 teccathegreatest [F4F] Dark Romance Brooding...

hello there, my name is Enola. Usually, when I post on this subreddit, I look for a lovely happy story. That's not going to be the case this time. I am of age, currently 20, and have lots of free time due to my job being on and off. I am excited to see what kind of replies I would get this time.
I want to find a partner who could write a dark romance-centered story in a fantasy setting, preferably a female. I can match my partner's length and preferred style of writing if they have special requests. I would also be open to more plots as they are presented to me.

2024.05.19 07:13 Brightclaw431 The Boy and the Heron is my least favorite Ghibli movie

The Boy and the Heron is a bad movie that deserves to feel bad. It is listless, confusing, the characters are bland as snow, the plot is muddled and the themes are weak?
The theme is about Mojito accepting his mother death...except he already accepts she is dead. Other then like maybe 2 times in the beginning when the Heron dangles the possibility that his mother may actually be alive, throughout the rest of the film when he tries it again, Mojito just brushes it off and bluntly says:
"No, I know shes dead."
"Stop, your just tricking me, my mother died."
"I'm hear to find my pregnant stepmom, not my dead mom...who is dead."
Like...there is no grief to explore, he knows and accept the fact that she is dead.
If you want more specifics. The movie just kind of meanders for like a good 30 minutes before we get to the part where Mojito finally goes into the space rock house, so yeah, slow and pretty boring beginning.
Then he goes to the first real area where he goes to that flooded plain place and we see that golden gate where it looks ominous and foreboding and seems important...and yet it never comes up again.
He meets that random pirate chick and hangs out with her for a bit and just kinds of plods around, not doing a whole lot...oh and we meet the waduwaudu (cant remember what their called) and movie drops a bombshell that reincarnation is a thing apparently...and does nothing with it...they don't really matter and don't come up again...Oh but I did laugh pretty hard at the seagull eating them up in a line like pacman eats pellets (I was playing the sound in my mind the whole time).
Finally he leaves and goes with the Heron and the movie starts to actually...well...start! But again, he just kind of bamps from place to place and stuff technically happens and lines are spoken...but it really feels like nothing is actually happening or being said that is of importance.
Oh and he meets magic God grandpa at one point (in a dream? I don't know the scene is not very clear) and he just goes "Hey! WANNA BE THE GOD OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!" and that just comes out of nowhere and seems out of place, just...thrown in there and not really fitting the theme of the movie which is to explore grief...when as I mentioned in my other post, there is no grief to explore, he has already 100% come to term that his mother is truly dead and never coming back, so from a thematic sense...this whole journey is pointless. Nothing to explore or gain or learn.
Oh and when he does find his step-mother, she basically tells him to fuck off. So yeah, step mother of the year right there! (Side note - It's never explained WHY she initially went to the tower in the first place. She just...does...for reasons...)
Oh and I almost forgot because time travel is thing too! Again, just another idea haphazardly thrown into the movie with little care and build-up and Mojito meets his Mother's younger self at like 3/4 of the way through the movie, but...there is no time to...bond(?) is that the right word in this case? So the friendship(?) just feels hollow and very plot by numbers...
Side note he realizes who she is at the end and tells her that she is going to die a blazing fire and she is just like "meh, I gave birth to a great son, so it's worth it." ALSO side note...how does she even have fire powers to begin with? She just...does for some reason...
Again, the movie has no idea what it wants to do, what kind of story it wants to tell, the characters just come and go...also I almost forgot!
Majito's dad is remarried his DEAD WIFE's Sister...who I think may be an identical twin which is pretty fucking sleazy on his part and has to be super fucked up for poor Mojito who now has to look at a woman everyday who is and isn't his mother at the same time.

2024.05.19 07:11 roahir Star Wars or Helluva boss rp?

Looking for a Star Wars rp set in Old Republic days. My char will be a force user born in wild space and of my own species. She’s born into a circus family where they don’t see her force abilities as anything negative but rather a cool part of the show. She’s not very forward and prefers to let others get the benefit from her abilities. But one day, when holding a performance in the Jedi part of the galaxy, a Jedi master will take notice of the performers and their feats and figures one of them must know the force in some shape or form.
This would kick off a series of events where the master and my char will meet and get to know each other (platonic way, not a romantic way) and then see how things move from there. I’m open to ideas of villains they might face, such as dark side users or bounty hunters.
Or Helluva boss/Hazbin hotel style rp. While I haven’t watched any Hazbin hotel I do watch enough of the shorts and I have watched Helluva boss to feel confident enough to have a rp in that setting. I don’t really have any plot in mind, I am open for ideas in that regard, but it will be a very slice-of-life style, love those styles of rp’s and some world building. In where I have a few different OC's like a hellhound with special powers and a shark demon who love to play wholesome pranks on humans.
I also like to plan the rp out. Even if the plot might be a short one, or longer. Just don’t ghost me after we have planned everything out. Don’t leave me hanging.
DM me so we can discuss more.
Requirements: 3rd person ONLY! Decent spelling and grammar. Discord rp only! Let's discuss plots before we implement them. 2+ lines and you must be able to play more than one char (like play side chars to help move the plot forward) oh and since we will most likely live in different timezones, don’t be mad when I go to sleep and don’t respond. And if you don’t like the plot from the start, don’t contact me at all. Ghosting is just bad practice.

2024.05.19 07:10 KrispySquirrel Pictomancer Opener

Pictomancer Opener
https://preview.redd.it/pzp7tmhmva1d1.jpg?width=2960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1caeecfb7cdf270ed3885bab748bcc3cab4057fd
I was looking back at the Pictomancer demonstration and decided to try and see what PTM opener could look like. I will be using the hotkeys for skills i don't know the name of. I never actually made an opener for a class/job before so hopefully i did this right and it makes sense.
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE AN OPTIMAL OPENER!!!!!
Bold = GCD
Italic = Weave
PRE-PULL: ALL MOTIFS
(OPENER #1) 6 -> imagine pom -> imagine sky ->c3 -> imagine hammer -> Swiftcast -> creature motif (wings) -> imagine wings -> Palette swap -> Blizzard -> Moogle beam -> Stone -> Comet -> 6 -> Lightning -> Comet -> 6 -> Hammer combo -> Creature motif (claw)
OR
(OPENER #2) 6 -> Imagine Pom -> Imagine Sky -> c3 -> Imagine Hammer -> Creature Motif (wings) -> Palette Swap -> Blizzard -> Imagine Wings -> Stone -> Moogle Beam -> Comet -> Swiftcast -> 6 -> Creature Motif (claw) -> Imagine Claw -> Lightning -> Comet -> 6 -> Hammer Combo -> Creature Motif (Fangs)
NOTES
For opener # 2 i believe you should be down to the last second or so of Imagine Sky and still have a good amount of time left to fully use the hammer combo. If anyone who's good at math would like to check me on that please do so.
Things I've noticed:
  • Imagine sky gives decreases cast and recast time (according to google translate)
    • Dark palette cast time were ~1.60sec while active (normal cast time ~2.20sec)
  • Imagine sky heals after every GCD, up to five times
  • Imagine sky also gives free Palette swap
  • 6 (line AOE) becomes instant cast only after casting Comet (2) not Holy
  • The skill assigned to A_ was never available to cast during the whole demonstration
    • My assumption is A_ can only be cast after using 0 (the bubble), which is probably a defensive of some sort

2024.05.19 07:06 Similar_Rock772 I (26 F) had a falling out with this guy (22M) that I’ve been talking to over Chipotle..

So this guy and I have been talking for about three weeks. The first couple weeks that we started talking, he was a perfect gentleman. He took me out on dates and paid for every single date, Wouldn’t let me touch the car door etc. Very chivalrous guy.
After he showed a pattern of being very chivalrous and romantic, I decided to show him some reciprocity, and I invited him over to my apartment where I provided a meal and refreshments and we watched a show together. I did this just to show him that I liked him and to reward his generosity towards me. I also wanted to show him that I was appreciative of the times where he took me out and never once asked me to pay. Sometimes women use guys for free food and I just wanted to show him that that’s not the reason I was continuing to see him and that I actually enjoyed his company.
After this, we got into the habit of hanging out at my apartment together. He started coming over more and things progressed between us physically. We haven’t had sex, but we definitely fooled around a little bit if you know what I mean.
Anyways, fast-forward to this week. Because he noticed that chipotle was one of my favorite places to eat, when we first started talking he told me that if I was ever craving chipotle that he’s got me and I just have to let him know. So I figured that I would take him up on that because I had a bunch of meal prep in my fridge that I just really wasn’t excited about, so I figured I would just ask.
So I called him, and I asked him if he could cash app me for some chipotle, and he had a super odd reaction and basically told me that it was wild of me to ask him to cash app me for chipotle. I asked him why this was wild. He said that he was open to buying me food if we were on a date or if he was physically present, but that he wasn’t comfortable just sending me money for food. I was genuinely confused on what the difference would be in terms of paying for food for me when he’s physically there vs giving me money for the same food?
I say this because there have been times where we were at the gym together and when we finished working out and we both drove to chipotle and he paid. So I didn’t understand why giving me the money and me picking it up for myself was so drastically different. I also knew that he was busy so I didn’t want him to have to go and physically pick it up. That’s why I just asked him to cash app me.
Anyways, here’s where I feel like I personally messed up and I feel like I could’ve phrased it a lot better so I definitely do acknowledge that but basically when I saw how he reacted, I said something along the lines of “it’s wild of me to request you to cash app me for chipotle but it’s not wild of you to ask me to get on my knees and…….” ( You can use your imagination lol )
But yeah, basically he got super upset and felt like I was throwing that in his face and we’re currently not talking anymore because I said that. I do feel like I could’ve phrased it a lot better. I guess what I was trying to say in a roundabout way was that if we have been being intimate (to a certain extent) and I’ve been giving you access to my body (to a certain extent) why is it wild or weird for me to ask you to cash app me for food? Why would you make me feel weird about that? I definitely do take accountability for the way that I went about communicating that though I didn’t necessarily have to use that specific instance of intimacy between us to make that point.

2024.05.19 07:04 Ok_Start1379 Do you think therapy can help me (27F) and my (ex)fiancé (28M) repair our relationship?

My (ex)fiancé and I had been together for almost 6.5 years, engaged for almost 2.5. Over the last several months, my (ex)fiancé has sat me down to talk about our relationship about once a month. Before these conversations, he would shut down and barely speak to me for several days even when I would ask what was wrong. Then he would finally tell me he was ready to have a conversation and would express his frustrations with the relationship. By the time of our conversations, I would already be on the defensive from his recent behavior. I also generally do not receive feedback well. When he would try to tell me that he was unhappy in our relationship because I didn't compliment him enough, flirt with him enough, or tell him I loved him enough, I would shut down. I was not able to hear what he was really trying to tell me. Instead, I put up a wall and told him to love me for who I am. I basically asked him "If I'm happy in our relationship despite my frustrations, why can't you be?" I now realize that is not an appropriate or healthy response when your partner is trying to communicate with you.
I did try to hear him. I gifted him some lingerie for the first time and let him take a boudoir photo shoot of me wearing it. I started sending a few more cute messages. I tried to make more time to cuddle with him when he would ask. I tried to give him more hugs. I tried to thank him more for picking up around the house. I wrote him a cute letter and surprised him with a few gifts for Easter. However, about a month ago, we had another one of those conversations. Except this time the first things he brought up were 'wondering what else is out there' and talking about how other girls are always complimenting him. Again came the walls and extra defensiveness. I ended up writing him a letter talking about how I didn't know if I could ever be what he wanted me to be and that maybe he should think about calling things off. This was obviously a defense mechanism to try to beat him to the punch line and talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. Three weeks later he would sit me down and tell me he wanted to know what else was out there again and that he didn't know if he could go through with marrying me. My efforts did not feel like enough for him and I understand why. I was having a hard time connecting my emotions with my actions which made my actions seem reactionary and not genuine or provoked by love.
I have been through a lot more trauma in my life than I realized. My dad was in the Navy while I was growing up. We had to move every three years. A very pivotal point in my life was when we moved when I was in the 6th grade. I lived right next door to my best friend. I was finding my love for math and theater. I also played soccer and was a Girl Scout. When we moved, I became very depressed, though I didn't understand that's what it was at the time. I stopped all of my extracurricular activities. I stopped getting too close to people because I knew I would have to move or they would have to move eventually. I mostly stayed in my room and kept to myself, even from my family. I also have struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember. Then, in my senior year of high school, I got my first-ever boyfriend. We were in a relationship for over 4 years. In that relationship, I would always be the one to try to talk about our problems. I would be the one who would always want longer hugs and more cuddles. But it was not a healthy relationship. We broke up and got back together many times. I found several illicit texts to other girls on multiple occasions and he would always gaslight me by saying his younger brother stole his phone or I misinterpreted the messages. I think this caused me not to want to show my emotions because it wasn't reciprocated and resulted in heartache. Then, three years ago my younger brother died in a tragic car accident at the age of 17.
When I realized I could lose the love of my life, I realized that he was right about me not being affectionate enough. I had built up walls to protect myself. I thought I had made progress on my anxiety and depression, but I realized I was wrong. I also realized that I have issues with communication, trust, and vulnerability. I was a great partner in other ways and I did express my love in other ways. I moved across the country, coast to coast, with him to a state where I didn't know anyone so that he could attend his dream school. I take care of the household. I get the majority of the groceries. I do all of the cooking. I do all of the maintenance cleaning. I take care of our 2 cats and 1 dog. I say all of those in the present tense because we currently still live together but are sleeping in separate rooms. I also financially supported him by lending him money and letting him pay less of the rent because I made more money. I accept all of him including that he has terrible time management skills, he can have a hard time controlling his emotions at times, and he is disorganized and messy. I also accepted that I would have to wait for marriage and children because of his school and accepted that he did not have a lot of free time between school, work, and his hobbies. I supported his love for his hobbies by accepting his purchasing of expensive equipment even when he owed me money, traveling to watch several events that were important to him, and traveling to see him win an award from his job. I would write heartfelt cards for every holiday. I also bought him dozens of children's books about love that I wanted us to read to our children one day.
When I realized I could lose him, I felt something change inside me. It was like I could feel a hole being blown in the wall I had built up. I felt all my love for him overwhelm me. I couldn't hug him, kiss him, or tell him I love him enough. I tried to talk to him to apologize for my behavior and how badly I'd hurt him. I tried to explain how I felt like a different person and how I really wanted to work hard on improving myself as a partner to make our relationship work. I tried to prove my words with actions. I wrote a list of things I needed to work on including communication and being more affectionate. I also wrote out a list of ways to work on those things and actually started doing the things on the list. Some of the items I had already begun to do like hug and kiss him more and tell him I love him more. I also tried to ask more questions about his interests/hobbies/day. I was more vulnerable and talked with him about my feelings more. I even initiated intimacy, something I had really only done once in a blue moon when I was intoxicated. I also set up my individual therapy sessions.
Despite all of my efforts, over the next two weeks, he continued to say he did not know if he could be with me and wanted to know what else was out there. He was very wavering and said multiple times "I don't know what the right decision is." He said he could not trust that my changes would last and that it was probably too late. I begged him to try couples therapy, but he refused and said "Therapy takes too long" and basically said it wasn't worth the time. He finally broke up with me after 2 weeks of going back and forth and I was devastated. He later talked to a mutual friend of ours and changed his mind about therapy. I was so happy to hear that he had changed his mind. However, now I feel like I can't even trust him anymore. He's turning into a person I don't recognize and I don't know what he's capable of anymore. I don't know if the man I love still exists. When he told me he was now agreeable to try therapy he said "We're still broken up, but I won't talk to any other girls." and then promptly said "And it will give me more time to find a place to live if things don't work out." He deleted several Instagram posts that had photos of me after he agreed to try therapy which makes me think he's not actually that open to healing our relationship. He complained to me about how he might have to take out student loans after I told him he needed to pay me for half of the rent while we're broken up and not decreased rate he had been paying me. He also "checked on me" on the night of the 3rd year anniversary of my brother's death when he heard me crying. Then he just sat on the end of the bed scrolling his phone while I cried as if he was checking on me because he felt like he had to and not because he wanted to. When I asked him if he had some sort of deadline in mind for the therapy, because he had previously mentioned that it takes too long, he said July or August and I have a suspicion that is because a girl he likes is leaving for summer break but will be back at the end of August for the next semester.
I just feel like the way he has been acting is not how you act towards someone you were in a relationship with for almost 6.5 years. Especially after saying you still love them and have no negative feelings towards them. That means even though you don't think you are a good relationship match, you should still want to treat them with respect. You should care that they are hurting during this time. You should want to comfort them in their grief of a separate event. You should mean it if you say you want to try therapy.
TL; DR : Do you think therapy will help?

2024.05.19 06:57 Big-Pair5172 Graduating M7er here. I finally landed a full-time job with philip morris (Big tobacco). it pays mBB level salary, but i'm worried about social Ostracization from m7 network. should i accept?

Title. Graduating 2nd year at an M7, been struggling to recruit for a full time role ever since I didn't get a return offer from my internship (corporate strategy at a F100). Pre-MBA background in healthcare consulting.
I cast a wide net, across a variety of different roles and industry, initially targeting tech Strategy & Ops, MBB & T2 consulting, and similar mainstream roles. However, I got completely rejected from them.
So I started throwing my apps into my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tier options.
It was my last choice, but I got an interview callback from Philip Morris International, a Big Tobacco company, which owns extremely famous cigarette brands like Marlboro. They recruit on my campus. It was a strategy oriented role, and after a few rounds, I landed it! And what's crazy is that the pay is straight up a godsend in this horrible job market - it's MBB level pay, $210k+ in total compensation.
The issue, however, is that my role is genuinely a blatant, net negative to society. My role will contribute to strategies on getting more people hooked on tobacco, cigarettes, and nicotine products, which will directly contribute to lung cancer, second hand smoking, deaths etc.
I am worried because on my campus, this type of company and industry is completely against what's socially acceptable. Most people talk about how they want to be equity oriented business leaders, be pro DEI, be pro ESG and try to balance capitalism with giving back to society. Yes, industries like MBB or investment banking or even Big Tech have their demons and societal ills. But while McKinsey helped fuel the opioid crisis and prop up dictators, most of its projects are relatively "benign" and mundane where the people going into consulting have "plausible deniability" that McKinsey isn't completely evil.
That's why you have incoming McKinsey consultants post very pro liberal and progressive political comments on Instagram while not viewing that as cognitive dissonance. Most of my classmates are outwardly liberal, at least on social issues.
Big Tech, investment banking, and consulting is popular on my campus. I have seen people go into Oil & Gas companies like Chevron (they also have a major MBA program) and they've gotten socially ostracized for doing so. Same with someone going to work for a controversial defense or military contractor. CPG Brand Management is an option, with the reception being more mixed. People don't love PepsiCo but are neutral on say deodorant owned by Unilever.
From Wikipedia itself: "With tobacco being addictive and the single greatest cause of preventable death globally, the company is highly controversial, not least because of its history of obfuscating scientific evidence around the health effects of smoking. It has been the subject of litigation and restrictive legislation from governments."
The company claims it supports a long-term vision of a "smoke free future" where cigarettes are replaced with non-smoking tobacco products such as e-cigarettes, vapes, nicotine pouches, and heated cigarettes. But this seems like smoke and mirrors and for the here and now, cigarettes are an essential part of the company's sales strategy & revenue. And even non-smoking tobacco products are extremely addicting with net health negatives. It's the same as Big Oil companies saying they have a clean energy division.
I have a wife and and incoming baby. I need to pay back near $200k in MBA student debt. I didn't have a job lined up, and financially this is a no brainer for me. I don't like that it's unethical, but it doesn't bother me too much.
But people say the biggest long term ROI of the MBA is not just the initial job pivot, but the network. And I feel deliberately joining a Big Tobacco company in a role where I am essentially pro cigarettes and nicotine, would put a Scarlet Letter on my back. I fear people will be reluctant to refer me to future roles, and I could also lose many MBA friendships.
What are your thoughts?

2024.05.19 06:57 samlaw66 In Brussels and Geneva looking for creams, spf, lip products, etc.

Hi all! I'm in Brussels for today and Geneva the next few days until end of next week visiting from the US. I have already bought a few things, namely spf from LRP and caudalie, and a cream from Eucerin, but am a skincare junkie and would love some more suggestions. I've got combo skin and I'm young, but am very expressive with my face so am a little worried about lines to come 🤣 I am a runner so spend a good bit of time in the sun at home. I love a good deal so I've been shopping at medi markets as I've heard they have the best prices. Any other suggestions I should snag before heading home? And where is the best place to buy? Is it medi market? In Brussels? Or will Geneva's prices be similar? Do any places do tax free for travelers?
