2024.06.02 06:15 ashley_reve TIFU by switching car insurance to save money

Found out about a month ago that my car insurance was going up ~$70/mo so I did the logical thing and shopped around for cheaper insurance. Found a policy that was about what I've been paying so deciding to switch seemed like a no brainer and the new policy went into affect 2 weeks ago. Well, today I checked the mail, and to my surprise there was a letter from the DMV telling me my license was suspended. Apparently I still need SR22 insurance from my DUI 3 years ago and I had totally forgotten I had it so didn't add it onto my new policy. Already contacted my insurance to add the SR22 for the 3 months I still need it which raised my new rate $40 and paid the $50 reinstatement fee so guess I barely saved any money and added a giant headache instead. TL;DR switched insurance to save money, forgot I needed extra DUI "insurance" so they suspended my license until I paid to have it again

2024.06.02 05:23 Ok_Letterhead4 A series of pain, consultations, and tests which led to the final diagnosis of Left Hip Dysplasia (LHP), with labrum tear and a recount of Left Periacetabular Osteotomy (LPAO) procedure.

Hi, not sure if this has been documented before but here I am, giving my 2 cents worth to everyone who needs this. I know it’s been really tough on everyone who has to go through this. It’s a really long post, so if you are short on time, just go straight to the heading in bold to find out what you’re looking for.
I don't know where everyone is from, but I am from Singapore and apparently, I can’t find any related posts by Singaporeans in any subreddits. If any fellow countryman needs this, there you go. For fellow netizens with Hip Dysplasia, there might be differences in the processes, but I suppose the recovery process is just about the same. Hope this helps, nonetheless!
Pre-diagnosis I have been a leisure runner in my late teens, and pretty much run about 5 to 10km regularly til mid-20s. It started with knee pain in a particular race, and the pain continued for a couple of years more. I had wanted to train for a half marathon, but I also wanted to ensure that I started my training right and pain-free. So I went to straight to a Sports Specialist Doctor in a Public Hospital and she diagnosed me with a Runner’s Knee (or formally known as Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, PFPS) after looking through my x-ray, and my description of pain. She referred me to the Podiatrist and the Physiotherapist for gait correction and muscle strengthening. It was going on fine for a while, but I still couldn’t run pain-free. Then Covid came, and the appointments have to be suspended. But I was still doing my physio exercises and running about 2.5 to 5km when we were allowed to.
Diagnosis As more restrictions eased, I began training for speed, and that was when the pain started coming from the hip, and walking became strangely painful with a pinching sensation at the hip/groin area at this point. I sought help from a private physiotherapist to find out what happened. After a few sessions, he realized something was not right and suggested me to get a hip x-ray done. And so I did, at a Polyclinic, and the x-ray showed shallow acetabulum and I got referred (again) to a Sports Specialist to get a MRI done. And LHP with a labrum tear was the diagnosis. And to no surprise… I got referred to another Specialist again, who was affirmative that I need a LPAO and at the same time broke it to me that I have a RHP which will need a PAO too. If you need to know the timeline - I had the x-ray done at the end of 2022, MRI done on mid-2023, LPAO done at the start of 2024.
Pre-surgery Preparation (Work) Check with your doctor on the estimated rest period (mine’s 3months) and inform your boss about it. The surgery will most likely be about 5 hours max, hospital stay 5 days, and you will be on 2 crutches for 6-8 weeks, and another 1-2 weeks on 1 crutch to stabilize your walking. You might be able to resume work obligations if it’s a sedentary job or another 6 more weeks of home rest if your work requires much walking or manual labour. So it’s really important to work out with your boss and colleagues for a proper handover so that you can concentrate solely on recovery.
Pre-surgery Preparation (Hospital) There will be a blood test / some swab done 3 – 4 weeks prior to the surgery; the nurse will let you know. You will be under General Anesthesia (GA) during the surgery, so fasting is required a day before is required.
Do pack light for your hospital stay. Use a backpack for convenience. Clothes to wear after discharge + source of entertainment and communication is enough. You wouldn’t want to carry a lot of things home after discharge when you’re on 2 crutches.
Pre-surgery Preparation (Insurance + Hospital Wards) Do inform your Insurance Agent / Company about it so that they are aware. It may or may not be covered, so please get in touch with them as soon as you have the details.
[Singapore’s context] There will be a pre-admission appointment with the hospital staff about 3 weeks before the scheduled surgery, which the staff with share with you the cost of the different class wards. Basically, Class C (8-bedded) and Class B2 (6-bedded) wards are fully subsidized by the government. I can’t remember how much a Class B1 (4-bedded) ward costs, but probably about 10-15K SGD. Class A (1-bedded) is about 21-23K SGD. The staff with help you out with the Letter of Guarantee (LOG) from your Insurance Company and will let you know in about 2 weeks if the application for LOG is successful, if not you would have to prepare for the bills depending on your chosen ward (either Class A or Class B1). There is no need for LOG for Class C and Class B2 wards, since it’s fully government-subsidized. Medisave and MediShield/IPs will be used for all Class Wards (Note: IPs is only applicable to 30 years old and above). My insurance allows me to be in the Class A ward and the application for LOG was also successful, thankfully.
Pre-surgery Preparation (Personal) Since you will be on crutches, do arrange your house to accommodate that. A folding bedside table, a caddy trolley, a long-arm grabber, pillows are items that you can prepare beforehand. Do also ensure that your toilet is slip-free as well or restructure it in a way that is beneficial for you. I had to bathe sitting on the toilet bowl for the 1st week as it is difficult to make it slip-free. It got better 2nd week onwards when I was allowed a 30% weight-bearing on my operated side, so I could be in the showering area. You will be at home and ‘confine’ to the bed/chair most of the time, so it’d be good to have some form of entertainment at home. Nanoblocks, Colouring books, Wordsearch, Sudoku, Crosswords, Netflix, Disney+, Hbo, Reading, Crocheting, Journalling, Zoom with friends are some of the things that you can do / prepare before surgery. You may or may not have energy for them, but that’s ok, the main idea is to focus on resting and having a sound mind so that you won’t be discouraged / feel bored / unmotivated. For meal wise, it’d be good if your family can cook / buy food, if not do ensure that your budget allows you to get food delivery for 6-8 weeks. I got my meals from Grabfood. Do ensure that you have a good chair – not those that put your knees above your hips.
Day of surgery If you can, do arrive 5-10mins earlier to settle in after registration.
[Singapore’s context] Do note that the staff who registers you in will ask you for the person to contact after the surgery. It’d be a text message to inform the person on the end of your surgery and which ward you will be in. You will need to sign the LOG letter (if any) and proceed to take your height and weight at the self-administered machine. Wait and follow any instructions by the nurse. You will be asked to change into the hospital gown and the nurses will ask you more questions, just answer them accordingly. They will also help to keep your belongings in their storage and will deliver to your ward at their timeslot after your surgery.
Process of surgery The Anesthesiology team will introduce themselves to you and go through the pain management methods. They asked what method (they mentioned 3, but I only remembered what I had) I preferred, and I told them to go ahead with what they think was good for me. Epidural, it was. And so, I got pricked with needles and whatnots and they finally brought me into the operating room. I didn’t realize the room was so big and cold and there were many doctors and nurses around. They did their thing, and I was just trying not to feel awkward with so many people looking at my bareback and being in a very vulnerable state. It’s a little pricky and painful at some point. Do let them know if you’re too cold, they have this hot air thing that can warm you up. They will also insert a urine catheter for you to help with the bladder movements. I was quickly under General Anesthesia (GA) with a breathing mouthpiece (the Anesthesiologists will direct you on what to do). I woke up after the surgery with a very dry throat and asked if I could have some water. They gave me a tiny vial of water, just about enough to soothe my throat. I guess it was also caused I was under GA and couldn’t be given much for my stomach too. I was quite aware of what was going on though I was still a little sleepy. I had to be brought to the High Dependency Ward (HDW) due to low blood pressure.
After surgery (in HDW) I kept wanting to drink water but that also caused me to vomit out water and had no appetite for dinner. Nausea and vomiting are just some side effects of GA. (I remembered being disappointed that I couldn’t have the watermelon, I had wanted to eat that, but I knew I couldn’t stomach it) And little did I realize that was the last time I saw a watermelon during meal times (damn the side effects). I was also quite weak on my operated left side, I was not in that much of a pain, just some discomfort. I was given a self-administered morphine device too, there is this button that I can press to administer morphine into my system at regular interval, the device has some safety feature which helps to stop people from abusing it) Used it once after I had to be flipped over to be wiped clean by the nurse (at this time, I had given up on trying to maintain my dignity, though the nurses were quite humane about it, if you know what I mean) But I was also trying not to use the morphine at all cos it gave me more side effects like drowsiness and an even lower blood pressure). Thankfully I had a good Pain Team (that’s what they call themselves), which helped to lower the dosage after they realized I was not using it that much and I was still very drowsy (I fell asleep halfway unknowingly after talking to people), and eventually I was off it. I was taken for an x-ray after the nurse ascertained that my blood pressure was normal (since I had the catheter, I just sipped water without a care in the world, to help raise my blood pressure). And I administered the morphine once after they flipped me over for the x-ray (it was bloody hell painful and it took a lot of strength). Probably in a day or 2, the doctors decided to remove my epidural needle and I was finally free of it. The next thing to get rid of was the catheter. I had a love-hate relationship with it. I need to be able to pass motion to get rid of it, which I did after an arduous process. Constipation is a side effect of not moving around. Your stool will most definitely be a Type 1 under the Bristol Stool Chart but it will be back to normal in a few days or so. I did a little cheer when I finally pooped.
My physiotherapist came and pushed me to move around. The first step coming down from the bed was the hardest due to gravitational pull. My muscles needed to be woken up after lying down for 48 hours or more. I got transferred to General Ward (GW) soon after.
After surgery (GW) I had some bed exercises to help to wake up the muscles and I was using the walker to move around. It was tough doing the bed exercises, but they have to be done. I was also able to bath independently by sitting down on the bathing chair in the bathing area of the toilet. I still needed assistance to wear my pyjamas pants. So unfortunately, the nurse still had to be around when I bathed for safety purposes since I was a fall-risk patient.
At this time, I was trying to get out of bed and be in the chair and also use the walker more to help with moving around and getting the muscles up and running. I had 2 more physio sessions with the crutches. Using the walker frequently helped with the use of crutches. (You will know what I meant when you have tried both out. You can push yourself but please do not force it if you are not strong enough yet.) My doctors have cleared me for discharge, I just need my physiotherapist to clear me too (they have to be sure that I can use the crutches properly and safely and also complete simple daily adaptive skills). Finally, I got cleared for discharge. I got the medication, and it was a cashless and fuss-free stay/process for me. I stayed in the hospital for 7 days (3.5 days in HDW, 3.5 days in GW). Remember to get your crutches before leaving the hospital.
Home rest 1st Week I must say, it’s really liberating to be at home, though it’s really a chore to move around. I did my physio exercises about 3x a day and just be a sloth. I was still very tired, but it was difficult to sleep. I’m usually a side sleeper, but I had to sleep on my back for 6 weeks, at least. My doctors said that I could sleep on my unoperated side, but it can be achy.
Home rest 2nd Week Things are looking up a little more since I could place a 30% weight on my left. I could enter the showering area now, just be careful not to overload the operated side. 2 crutches are still a must to prevent any overloading of weight to help with the recovery. Protein and calcium-rich food are your best friend. Again, do your physio exercises regularly. I still do mine 3x a day.
Home rest 7th Week Finally, I got to put full weight on my operated side. Happily, I tried to ditch BOTH my crutches, please do not be like me! Ease into walking slowly. Use 1 crutch to help you with the gravity pull as you put 100% weight on both legs. It is also possible to ditch the crutch and try walking on very short distances, do take care of your walking form. If you limp badly, please use 1 crutch and practice walking. I did try stairs and use the railings if necessary. I managed to ditch the crutches by Week 8. Physio continues, if you have access to the gym, please go ahead, slowly. I am sleeping both on my back and on my unoperated side now.
Home rest 13th Week Not sure if things are still looking good, but my knees kinda hurt, and that’d be another story for another day. I am cleared to resume work, though I still got to be careful with the walking and all.
Week 14 – Week 18 (current) I think since I am walking a lot more, I am limping a little, but not enough for a need to bring back the crutch. It got more achy when I’m sleeping on my unoperated side and still a little discomfort if I try to sleep on my operated side. My operated side is still weak and achy when I walk or sit or lie down. I am still doing my physio, though not 3x a day now.
I am not too sure how I will progress but that’s my journey thus far. Happy to share here and to answer any questions you may have.

2024.06.02 05:18 ani3D Insurance worries

I got a letter today that my MRI is being deemed "medically unnecessary" by my insurance, and I'm freaking out a bit. My appointment is Wednesday, meaning I have the weekend to freak out because I can't call anyone, and then just two days to actually figure this out. Without insurance the MRI would be $5k, which I can pay, but yikes that's a lot of money. I'm planning to call my doctor to see if the test actually IS unnecessary, but somehow I doubt it. Plus I genuinely want the test because I still don't know what stage my cancer is, I literally have no idea how far it has spread throughout my body (I think I caught it pretty late, so I'm fearing the worst).
Do any of you have any experience with this kind of thing? I'm generally pretty bad at advocating for myself, I'm too much of a people-pleaser.
If it helps, I've had a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy so far. IDC, 5 cm tumor in my right breast, nothing visible in my left, grade 2, estrogen/progesterone+ HER2-. Genetic test was negative for BRCA genes so I'm hoping to keep my healthy breast but I was also hoping for the MRI to confirm that the cancer hasn't spread there.

2024.06.02 04:59 curiosityisme11 Subsequent Entrant subclass 482 Visa Granted!

For Background:
First of all I’m from the Philippines. My de-facto partner of 3+ years went to Australia last May 4, 2023 under subclass 400 as a Fitter (323211). His subclass 482 visa was granted on October 31, 2023. An acquaintance of his uncle shared that he was able to bring his family (wife & 2 kids) to Australia by processing Subsequent Entrant Visa. With this, we decided to also take a risk and contacted the migration agency they used. I am currently working for a company where my partner and I met. We wanted to be together earlier than waiting for his processing of PR (2years from his 482 Visa grant the earliest)
My Journey Timeline (all in 2024): 135 Days
Only restriction of my Visa is 8501 - Maintain health insurance.

2024.06.02 04:43 LegendarySwarley Accidentally Hit a Motorcycle

Dear Law Professionals of Reddit,
Hi I do have a question.
For context, I was driving along Kalayaan Ave Makati and I accidentally hit a motorcycle. We proceeded to the police station to file a police report and agreed that I will have the motorcycle be fixed under the insurance of my vehicle. We also have a signed agreement that the repair will be under the insurance.
Fast forward, it has been almost a month till the insurance company released the letter of authority for the repair. Now, the other party is requesting me to pay his daily wage as a motorcycle taxi as his sideline during the time of processing the insurance claim. It is not indicated on the agreement.
He then filed a case because I refused to pay his daily wage and stick with the signed agreement. My question is, can I present the signed agreement and Letter of Authority of repair from the insurance company as my counter evidence when the Preliminary Investigation commenced?
Thank you in advance!

2024.06.02 04:07 Inevitable_Working48 [Louisiana] Soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend cheated, I'm kicking her out.

Ex-girlfriend of 12 years cheated on me, and the relationship has all but in name been over for the better part of a year now. We grew apart and I was tired of being taken advantage of and distanced myself. In the meantime she snuck behind my back and began having sex with another man multiple times, and does not know I know about it. I have never wanted to marry as a result of my views on it and my parents' own problems in marriage and this was discussed many times over the years (in case of questions regarding common law). I want to evict her from my house. Some details:
  1. I own the house, it is solely in my name.
  2. She does not pay rent, contribute anything to utilities or any household financial upkeep.
  3. I do not want any money or her property.
  4. I plan on giving her 30 days to vacate.
  5. Our agreement was that while we were together was that I would handle all household expenses and she would save for a rainy day and provide when we had larger purchasing needs. In this, she provided
A. some money for the down payment of the home (eight years ago, with a gift letter I still have copies of that say no repayment is expected),
B. part of a roof replacement after a hurricane (three years ago, in cash, no receipt, no verbal or non-verbal expectation to repay) and
C. partial down payment on a vehicle (year and a half ago, in cash, no receipt, no verbal expectation or non-verbal expectation, vehicle is fully in my name, insured in my name, and all loan payments in my name.)
My questions are if this holds tight legal water and are there any blind spots I might be missing or reasonable financial risk that I should expect? I'd appreciate serious feedback. Thank you.

2024.06.02 04:04 FRH_95 Question re; personal liability - broken paddle board fin when using it in Mexico

Myself and two friends (living in Vancouver, from Ireland) are on an all inclusive holiday in Mexico, near Puerto Vallarta. Holiday was booked through Expedia. Part of this resort includes free use of non-motorised water sports (e.g., snorkelling, paddle boarding, snorkelling). We went paddle-boarding. Beforehand, the guy got use to put down our information - name, room number and signature. We did not read the form (which we should have) and at the top it said we took personal responsibility of the equipment. This was not highlighted by the guy. He gave us three paddle boards, one of which he had just used to set up the buoys and ropes in the water. We went out for about 30minutes max. Nothing significant happened when we were out and we follow the guys advice about handling the paddle boards. When we returned the paddle boards and were walking away he called us back and showed us that the fin on one of the girls boards had been broken. He called management of the resort. They can down with security and said it would be $22,000 mex pesos (approx $1700 cad - which wasn’t even the cost of our holiday each). We obviously did not want to pay that. We said we would have to talk with our insurance company (Irish based, with personal liability covering up to €1,000,000) and he kindly gave us two days to sort it out. Unfortunately we could not get a hold of them as they had closed for the weekend and we are leaving Mexico on Sunday. So we can not get any advice from them. We asked for formal written quote on the cost which he had said he would provide to us via the resort management along with a “discounted” price. We have not received this but received x2 letters in our door from management asking us to pay. We went to guest services and explained that we were waiting on the quote etc. they told us that the price was now $15,600 Med pesos (approx $1250 Cad) and said we could sort it out with the man tomorrow before we leave. I am looking for the following advice: How much are we liable for? (The price seems like it is covering the cost of a brand new board, which the one was not new). Should we pay even though we have not gotten advice from our insurance company? If we pay what information do we need to provide to the Irish insurance company? How likely are we to get reimbursed from the insurance company? Any Mexican laws or advice to handle this situation? Thanks in advance.

2024.06.02 04:00 emulzhn need advice on property sale in Ph, while in US

Good Day/Eve all,
I'm currently in the process of selling my parents' home in Novaliches, QC (title in my name) and have found a buyer but unfortunately, the buyer is applying for a loan with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), making more daunting due to standard practices in the Ph.
According to some Ph realtor agents, there are two important documents that need to be released before the seller receives the complete payment for the property. After a buyer has applied and has been approved for a loan, a Letter of Guarantee (LOG) is issued by the financial institution (BPI) to the buyer assuring just that, a document that guarantees the buyer funds to purchase the property. I was informed that the buyer provides a down payment (earnest money) to the seller at this point. Additionally, an Electronic Certificate Authorizing Registration (eCAR) is issued by Bureau if Internal Revenue (BIR, I'm guessing the equivalent of IRS) is also used as this document assures that all taxes applicable to the transfer are paid.
And here comes the kicker. Once the eCar is released, the seller is supposed to hand over the title of the property (remember no complete payment yet but just a down payment) to the Registry of Deeds (Ph govt entity that maintains land records and titles), who will then change the title from seller to buyer (oh, did I mention that the seller has not received payment yet). Once this is completed, this document will then be given to the financial institution BPI, who will then release funds to the seller.
I was advised that this whole process from when the title is surrendered to the Registry of Deeds, to when the bank releases the funds may take up to two months. WTF...
is there an easier way? Is there a way I can minimize this time without funds? Is there some sort of insurance or back up I can use to ease my anxieties and uncertainties?
No, I do not want to sell at below market price, that may attract investors with ready cash, simplifying the process. I just want my parents to get what's theirs without the worry. maybe not possible in the Ph.
thanks all and looking forward to some of your examples, experiences and possibly solutions...

2024.06.02 03:50 A_White_Rat Just got the dreaded insurance cancellation notice…

I just got the notice of cancellation homeowners insurance. We live in California, in the suburbs of Sacramento and I was hoping that we would be spared the exodus of insurers. According to the letter, they have stopped writing any policy in California.
We have had the same company for the last 11 years. This is been the only insurance company. We have had no claims and have never missed a payment. My biggest fear is that we won’t be able to find anybody, or the price will double.
Any words of wisdom from someone who has been in a similar boat?

2024.06.02 02:51 Fair-Lengthiness-165 Car accident

Hi all, looking for some advice here.
My son was hit by another driver while borrowing my car in NSW I'm from Vic.
My son only took a photo of her licence and insurance policy number and both vehicles damage. He gave her his phone number but didn't get hers.
Sending her letters and calling her insurance company has proved fruitless at this point I think my only option is having my solicitor file a statement of claims in the district court. But my concern is if she didn't get my letters will she get the summons??
Any advice appreciated here

2024.06.02 02:29 dbandm AITA for being... well... an asshole and sticking up for myself?

I (38F, disabled) rent a unit in an old strip mall for my retail and art business. The building itself has been around for decades and has a flat roof and cinderblock walls. One room in my unit has been leaking for years (even before I moved in September of 2022). The property manager and the building owner both have been aware of this problem, and I have contacted them about it myself several times (and the infestation of wasps, which was a whole other panic-attack-inducing fiasco).
Well, the ceiling leaked particularly bad recently and damaged my property and merchandise (about $444 worth--I was able to save the painting I was working on!). I understand that the owner and property manager cannot be held liable for those damages; that's why renter's insurance is important. Still, it was a nightmare having to get large furniture pieces and expensive electronics moved in a hurry. It forced me to close for business several hours in order to save everything, and I haven't been able to use the room for over a week now.
And it STINKS!
I've dumped two boxes of baking soda on it, used half a bottle of vinegar, an entire can of febreeze, a dozen incense sticks, and even placed charcoal briquettes around the room. The smell continues to linger. It has gotten better, but the baking soda is discoloured from the moisture, and I worry about the health problems that could rise from this. The owner says he won't be in until Monday (11 days after the "flood") to look at it and bring a dehumidifier.
I've been told by the maintenance guy who came out the day of the leak that the carpet, which is directly adhered to the concrete, won't mold because there's no padding. My uncle, who is a general contractor in Minnesota, and Google both state that the carpet can, in fact, mold from this. I was in the process of putting together a proposal to get all of the carpet in my 905 sqft space replaced with linoleum before this latest leak.
So I sent the property manager a letter stating that I wasn't going to pay rent for June due to the torrential flooding that caused damage to my belongings, distress, forced closure, and pain from frequently being forced to move furniture. Instead, I was going to use that money on replacing the carpet. She emailed me that I can either pay rent or leave. Unfortunately, there are no other spaces in town with the required features I need (office, art work space, classroom, and retail area) within my budget or I would leave.
So I emailed her back stating all the above written and: "The costs of the flooring would be between $800 and $900, excluding taxes, additional parts and cleaning, and labour. So, sure, I'll pay the $700 in rent and let you do all the flooring repairs. Afterall, it is in the contract that structural repairs are the duty of the property management. I'll drop the check off on Monday the 3rd if you agree. "
What do y'all think? Am I an asshole?
BTW, there were roofers here to fix the leak. They say the whole roof should really be torn up and replaced because the leaking had more-than-likely damaged the layers between the roof and my ceiling. Also, they patched and tarred over nine holes (I have photos from them, and photos of all the damages). It has rained since then, but I haven't seen any evidence of a leak... yet.

2024.06.02 02:00 funsteps Auto accident - state is prosecuting the other party

This isn’t necessarily related to an injury, I apologize if I used the wrong flare.
I was in an auto accident on 4/21/24. Other party was entirely at fault - I was going straight through an intersection, had the green light. They turned left in front of me. I essentially t-boned them at 30-40mph. My car was totaled. Thankfully, I was able to walk away with only some cuts and bruising. I went to urgent care the following day.
I got two letters from the Illinois states attorney this week. One states that the state is prosecuting the other driver. They are requesting documentation regarding any non-covered out of pocket expenses that I incurred due to the accident, as they will attempt court ordered restitution. The other letter states that I will need to appear in court to testify against the other driver.
My auto insurance covered my medical bills, paid out the value of my totaled vehicle, and they have collected my deductible from the other party’s insurance. The only hard expense I don’t have covered is a car I needed to rent.
I had to use a PTO day the day after the accident. I was in shambles, mentally, for a few weeks after the accident. My insurance premium and car payment have gone up.
Is it worth it to get an attorney involved? Is there any chance of getting some sort of compensation for emotional duress and these other expenses?

2024.06.02 01:44 MoreCranberry3 I’m getting sued. Now what?

Edit: I’m in Texas.
I caused a minor accident last year no injuries on scene or anything. Only damage was our vehicles but even that was on the minor side.
Fast forward to a year I get this letter for the state of Texas that the person I crashed is suing me and they want $250k-$1M (which obviously I don't remotely have.)
My understanding is that my insurance had already paid them for all damages. My only guess is that they want more and now they're coming for me personally? I did called my insurance and was told to call back on Monday but on the meantime I’m disturbingly anxious.

2024.06.02 00:53 goldenslut1029 Not eligible for Medicaid after tips?

I’m 24 years old. I had Medicaid the last few years and when I started working at a new job in February last year I never updated anything bc I didn’t know how much money I would be making in tips. The hourly pay was under 12$ Then in March or April I had a medical bill that wasn’t being covered so when I called Medicaid they told me my benefits were cancelled because I didn’t renew. So I signed up for insurance through my work. I was using that insurance and then suddenly I got a letter saying that If my Medicaid was cancelled it was going to be put back bc it was an accident or something? And there was a lawsuit or idk something I didn’t understand. So anyways then I did my taxes for 2023 and I made above the amount that eligible for Medicaid when i included my tips. But I got a letter from Medicaid like 3 weeks ago saying the income they had was just my weekly check about $400 a month. So I’m still enrolled and if there’s any changes to give an update. So Im going to cancel it but now I’m freaking out about the Medicaid benefits I received last year.

2024.06.02 00:37 Anothersadwife Spouse 44m lying about more than drinking. How would you handle this?

Hey guys- I’m new to the idea of Al Anon and have been reading through your posts. I’m hoping for a little advice. We’ve been married almost 20 years. Since that time, he has been caught numerous times telling me lies. It started with little things like not paying a certain bill and letting it go to collections, when asked he would say it’s been taken care of. Only to find out when we went to buy our first house that his credit was awful because he just didn’t pay. We had the money, he just didn’t want to. He lost his high paying job in December, he says he made a clerical error that caused the company to lose money and he was fired on the spot. We lost everything. The home we lived in was the companies that we had been planning to purchase, his truck was bought through work and he says that due to a clause in his contract, he wasn’t vested in his retirement-they kept it all while somehow we ended up tax liable for a huge portion. We literally have a tax debt of $56k. I’ve paid off no less than $100k in cc debt over the years. Last summer, I remember we got a card in the mail saying “thank you for buying xxx atv” I approached him about it and he told me he never bought an atv and that I was crazy basically. Yesterday we received a letter from the insurance company saying this said atv has been deemed a total loss. WHAT ATV!? On top of this, he has started hiding alcohol and drinking when I’m not around. I’ve not put any rules about drinking in place but today out of frustration I went in his truck and found 2 fifths of vodka, one empty and the other partly drank. I literally don’t know how to go forward- he is ruining every dream I’ve ever had for myself and down plays everything. I got a text from him saying “sorry I drink” not sorry I was hiding this from you or anything meaningful. I don’t think he understands the seriousness of what he is doing and we have children together. Literally if he went to jail today, we would be SOL because I simply don’t make enough to support myself and 2 kids. And it’s obvious he is drinking in his car. I’m going to try to go to a meeting Monday but I’m looking for others that have had situations similar. What did you end up doing? Did you work it out or did you have to leave? I care for him deeply but he has chipped away at all of the trust I ever had for him and I honestly feel like the dumbest person ever. Thanks in advance!

2024.06.01 23:48 actuallyWurfles Bounced around between firms after car accident

Hi all,
Looking for some advice on this situation.
Last year I was involved in a no fault car crash on the M25 where an uninsured third party crashed into a van that then hit me whilst I was stood still. I was hurt pretty bad with whiplash and as such wasn't able to work my job until Occupation Health agreed I could, which was circa 2 months.
I was advised to claim by the insurers and so I did, for the injury and costs lost to being off work; the solicitor I had allocated to me was incredibly slow in obtaining progress on the case , and in February the company was liquidated. I had an email from the liquidators explaining it would be passed to company A, who appeared reputable online. I then had a phone call a week later from company B, who appear much less reputable, claiming the case had been allocated to them. They couldn't provide details of the case and so I chose to remain in contact with company A.
Weeks have passed, and I have not received any info from company A about continuing the claim. Then, this week, a third company calls me and explains that the administrator on the portal has allocated the case to them. I explain I am reluctant to trust them as company B tried to dupe me, but company C asks me to ask company A how they got my details; explains they likely purchased the case from the liquidated company, and that C are the company I should be with. She seems to pressure me on the phone when I ask if I have time to decide, and so this makes me wary. Looking online, company C has very little presence at all.
Now, after calling them on Thursday, company A has emailed me a letter explaining they can't take the case, and that company C are my allocated solicitor and I should take the case up with them.
My questions are: am I likely being duped by these companies; what are the odds that my earnings are recovered from that time period (I don't even care about the injury, I lost approx £4500 pre-tax from not being able to work), and is there any need for a solicitor to pursue this?
TIA
Based in england

2024.06.01 23:31 DirectionAny2962 I was sent a letter from the IRS. It came with a USB drive inside.

The letter came in a largeish yellow envelope half covered in plastic. The first of many red flags.
My name was spelled wrong on the label. It’s only been spelled wrong that way before in two other places I know of: insurance company and college university.
Inside is a legit looking letter. It’s very convincing. It has my last four digits of my social on there. And my correct name spelling. However, the amount owed is incorrect. I checked with my tax filer just to confirm. The letter says to send a check before June 3, 2024.
The letter came with a white USB drive inside! It’s printed with an IRS logo on the front and it has braille on it. The print is off center as well. There were no instructions regarding the USB and what to do with it.
Of course that major red flag was especially insidious. I’m not plugging a mysterious fucking USB in any computer near me.
Have you ever heard of this before? Should I report this to someone?
