2024.05.21 20:22 Appropriate_Rope1839 Injured Toe F27 5'2" 174lbs - Do I need to be seen again

On Sunday a rusty hammer dropped on my big toe. I went into an urgent care due to a very large sublingual hematoma under my nail which they drained. They did an xray but said they didn't see a fracture. Monday I went to another urgent care as the toe swelled even larger, it was hot, red, bruised, still painful and cannot bend. The urgent care said it appeared the toe had cellulitis. Crazy since it happened less than 24 hours prior but the hammer was dirty and I was outdoors barefoot. They prescribed me Augmentin twice a day for 14 days.

Today the toe is still red and bruised as I expect, the nail is white but I have now white around the toenail bed skin and it is still very red and very swollen. Obviously it still hurts. I have an 18mo who has stomped the toes several times now today alone as I chase after her.
Is the white a sign I need to return yet again or will the Amox- Clav the pharmacy gave me be sufficient? Thanks

2024.05.21 20:21 Tainted_Pickle Career Advice

Hi all,
As the title states I'm looking for some career advice, and maybe also an opportunity to get some things off my chest. So, I apologize in advance if this is a little long.
I started my career in market research by complete happenstance. I was fresh out of college with a Marketing degree and applied for a job for a large well-known market research supplier - mainly because the title had "marketing" in it. I honestly had little clue what the company did, but it was an entry level position, and they weren't expecting any experience. I worked at this company for 14 years, getting promoted every couple of years which kept me happy and content. We primarily focused on copy testing TV ads, and brand tracking work. I learned the basics of market research, writing q'res, checking data tables, populating reports, drawing insights from the data. But I would classify all this knowledge as very surface level. Since we had standard "solutions" I rarely, if ever had to write a survey from scratch. We had a data processing team, so I never learned SPSS, R, or other data processing tools. After around year 12 I started looking for other jobs, because I was burnt out doing the same research every day and because of our company’s direction - maximizing profits, cutting workforce, offshoring data functions, etc.
At this time, I tried to branch out of market research, but looking for adjacent type of work - think marketing/web analytics, etc. - but didn't have much luck. I either made too much money or was disregarded because I didn't have the exact experience the role was looking for. I finally ended up taking a job with a small UK firm that specialized in text analytics - basically automated coding of verbatim comments. The role was interesting, as we were using the text analysis to comb through hundreds of thousands of CX survey comments every month. Unfortunately, the company who was conducting the CX research offered our clients the text analytics for free or very little cost, making our services redundant. This was the company’s only US client, so there was nowhere for me to go even though I enjoyed working for the company. Luckily, I saw the writing on the wall early and was able to job hunt before we were officially let go from our contract.
Given the pressure of impending doom at the previous position, I wasn't too choosey about my next role. I took a position in the research department for a B2B trade magazine publisher. In hindsight this was a dead-end move from the beginning, as the company was in a dying industry (who reads magazines anymore?) The research role was split between doing industry research studies to provide editorial content for the 50+ publications and doing custom research using our vast subscriber base. Most of the studies we conducted just ended up being copies of the previous year’s study and required very little thinking. Even the "custom" studies were often repeat waves from prior years and were in areas I had little knowledge of (roofing materials, plumbing fixtures, industrial food manufacturing equipment, etc.). Again, I saw the writing on the wall, as the company's revenue declined year over year and the custom research group barely topped $1MM in revenue (it was basically the co-CEO's pet project). Back to the job search.
This time, I was able to use some connection to get in touch with the hiring manager for a private mid-sized research supplier that specialized in TV ad effectiveness research, which was right up my alley thanks to the experience at my first company. I was hired and was able to seamlessly step into the role. I mainly enjoyed what I was doing, even if it was a bit repetitive. I was good at it, and I liked the company and people I worked with. At this point in my career, I was less concerned about climbing the corporate ladder and more concerned about work life balance and job stability. My main hope was to ride out this job until I was ready to retire (~10 years). However, as is happening all over the research industry, our company was acquired by a private equity funded research company. Over the past 2 years since the acquisition, there have been multiple layoffs and restructurings as the private equity firm looks to squeeze every cent out of their investment. There is no more job stability, and I feel like it is only a matter of time before I'm let go, and I can’t ride out my time here to retirement.
I have again begun a job search but I am running into all the same issues I had when I left my first company. I don't have technical know-how (SPSS, statistical techniques, etc.) and my research expertise is in a small niche sector (ad/marketing effectiveness). There are very few mid-sized research firms left, as most of them have been consolidated into large firms. So I'm either left with these big corporately run firms that have all of the same issues my current companies have (only care about profits above all else), or they are small boutique firms that are looking for research experience (CX, segmentation, product testing, etc.) I don't have and/or technically experience with statistical/data tools.
I don't really want to go back to school to learn a new career, because by the time I finish a new degree I may only want/need to work for a few more years. I'd love to find something that is flexible, and stable even if it means I make less money than I do now. Most of the research firms don't seem to be hiring right now, and I don't know if I'm just trading one bad situation for another. I can't seem to break into any adjacent industries (marketing analytics, media agencies, etc.) I've investigated government jobs, but nothing seems to translate to my experience.
Any other places I should be looking at? Does anyone else feel trapped in this industry that seems to be getting worse every year as more and more consolidation happens?
TL:DR - Have 20+ years of supplier side research experience but in a very niche sector, which is preventing me from getting considered for other jobs/industries. Mainly searching for stability and flexibility (versus $ and career advancement) but that seems to be in short supply as the research industry is continually being consolidated and gobbled up by hedge funds and private equity.

2024.05.21 20:21 RevolutionaryBoss953 Speaking abilities do not get better after a certain point. What shall I do?

Hello! I do not know if there is such a thing as the Relatively Advanced Plateau once you've passed the Intermediate Plateau but I think I am kind of stuck in it. I'm 22, I've been learning German for 7 years and I have to admit that while my passive vocabulary has increased tremendously and my writing abilities are way better than 3 years ago, my speaking skills have stagnated at a B2 level, despite a couple of hours (around 6-8 hours) of talking with natives/advanced speakers every week for the past 2-3 years. I'm getting discouraged, because even though I use plenty of expressions, proverbs, colloquial speech and even formal structures the moment I discover them, after a couple of days they disappear from my active vocabulary and I almost come back to the way I used to speak the language when I was 18-19. The same applies to my spoken English sometimes. It's as if synonyms were scared of me and they went into hiding! Fortunately, my Russian is still at B1 and I haven't had this problem yet but I do know what to expect in the future. Any advice on how to train a more diverse, non-repetitive, "full of flavor" or maybe elevate, literate speech, both in German and English or any language that I will ever reach the B2 level in?
P.S: I remembered that I still repproach the same thing to myself in my native language, synonyms and expressions are often avoiding me when I am telling a story and I get the feeling of never hitting the nail on its head when necessary. :-

2024.05.21 20:19 justagurI WHY RESTAURANTS HAVE SURCHARGES

They don't want to keep updating their menu prices and redoing their menu, as their cost of ingredients and labor can swing wildly from week to week.
I we can assume that the surcharge does occasionally go down or get removed. Or the surcharge goes away but it is absorbed into the increased menu price.
We are in a relatively volatile inflationary period And it doesn't seem like inflation's going anywhere anytime soon
I think it's okay to think of the menu price as the price floor and to expect a surcharge.
Restaurants still have their reputation on the line and can't just be going crazy with surcharges or they would go out of business.
Give them a break. They're probably screwing over a lot less people than the tech company you work for.
Relevant article:
Salum, said the restaurant has relied on its $3.75 surcharge.
“It’s not just for us, it’s an increment of all the expenses, you know, minimum wage, rent,” Rodolfo told Fox affiliate KSWB.
“There’s so many expenses – and everything is going up,” Rodolfo said.
Rodolfo explained even with the surcharge, the steakhouse occasionally doesn’t make a profit.
“It’s not like we’re making so much money – some months you just go even,” he said.

2024.05.21 20:16 breakingbrowns13 How much should I have saved before buying a house?

My wife (27) and I (28) are thinking about buying our first house. We currently pay $2500/mo in rent, and expect a mortgage to be anywhere from $3,000-$3,500/mo.
A quick breakdown of our finances: - household income is $200k - $20k in HYSA for emergency fund - $24k in HYSA for down payment (adding $1800 monthly) - $10k in ETFs - $135k in retirement funds (I’m maxing Roth IRA and 401k)
Debts: - $500/mo in student loans - $500/mo in car lease
I’m not worried about affording the monthly payment, as we have more than enough leftover after expenses to cover the increase. I am however worried about random house expenses that come up. If we spend the $24k on down payment and closing costs, there isn’t a ton leftover for things like furniture, fixing a broken ac unit, getting a new dishwasher, etc.
Am I overthinking it and we’ll actually be fine, or am I right that we should save up more? I also recognize our savings aren’t super balanced. The thought was save as much for retirement as possible now before kids come into play, but we could also pull back on the retirement savings a bit and save more elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

2024.05.21 20:16 Arunbenx This is one of the best creationism argument in see. (Indian edition)

This is one of the best creationism argument in see. (Indian edition)
I have seen many god in the gaps, intelligent design and fine tuning argument, most of them are really stupid and can be debunked easily. But there are some argument that you need some level of scientific knowledge to debunk it. Which are really rare especially in India. I believe this is one of those videos. (I couldn't do it, due to the lack of knowledge) but i believe some with very low Scientific temperament (like me) can be easily fooled by this. Actually I would like u/PranavYedlapalli to react to this video, even though the is video in Malayalam. (I believe he can understand Malayalam)
For those who don't understand Malayalam i had done a rough translation.
The translation.
When we observe the universe, a lot of things are pointing to a creator. It's an obvious logic.
When we look at mount rushmore do we ever think of it happens of natural causes, we know there is a creator, some one or a few people made that. Just like that when we observe the universe and our body, it's clear that there is a creator. When It comes to topic like creation of universe and our body, atheist would say it's undirected. Without direction, just through evolution this all had happened. But if we dig deeper we would realise that it is impossible to imagine universe without a creator.
This is Fred Hoyle, (a picture) he is a scientist. What makes him special is that he was one of the greatest atheist in 1940-80s. There is a theory called steady state theory. Regarding the creation of this universe there where two theory, one steady state theory and other Big Bang theory. The steady state theory state's that the universe has no beginning nore an end. For an atheist which theory would be more acceptible. It's steady state theory. In that the universe don't have a beginning, if there is a beginning the we have to find the reasoning for it's creation and it's creator. If there is no beginning, they don't have to find that. At those times all the atheist accepted steady state theory. After that the theory of Big Bang came, which talks about an explosion occurring at point of sinclarity. This is a different topic. I'm not gonna talk about this now.
The name big bang was given by Fred Hoyle, InFact he mocked that theory by calling it a "big bang". The theory's opponent (Fred Hoyle) given the name for that theory. After few a years Fred Hoyle become a theist. The reason was not big bang.... But it's fine tuning, it a bit complex but I will explain it.
(Okay, I'm not gonna translate the entire speech word by word, it's only been 6min to the 38min video, I'm exhausted. I'm only gonna translate the relevant points now onwords.)
After that he ask the audience "what's the most important element for us?" He waited for someone to say carbon, then started talking about different forms of carbon. "From diamond to Ash alot of things are carbon." The he goes on. " Carbon is important for the sustenance of life, and the Fred hoyle want to know how carbon was formed." Then he start talking about nuclear fusion, how everyother atom is formed by fusion of hydrogen. Then he goes on to explain how carbon was formed using fusion. He said "for carbon to form they need a specific value of force, and specific value of quark is needed for high energy carbons. So what's he (Fred hoyle) understood from that was their should be a design, or else this specific values can't occur. Then he goes on, how the gravity is affecting the temperature of the Star. Where too much or too little gravity would over heat or under heat the star, which won't lead to carbon formation. Then he goes on, even if the value of the gravitational constant change by 1/10³⁵, even then there couldn't be a carbon. Even a small decimal could prevent carbon formation and that made atheist Fred hoyle to a theist.
Then a quote of Fred hoyle.
Which clearly state that there's no blind force and it's clear without any doubt, it's intelligent design.
Then he goes on explaining how minor change in these values would prevent life from forming.
Change in 1/25 of Electro magnetic Force would prevent life form.
Same for Strong Nuclear Force, 1 part in 100 would prevent the universe from forming.
Same for
Ratio of weak nuclear force to SNF - 1 part in 10000
Ratio of EMF to Gravity - 1 part in 10⁴⁰.
Which futher proof fine tuning.
(Ok the next part is kinda obvious, even i know it's stupid.)
He talks about earth and it's position to sun, how it's not too close nore too far, so that life can form. He talks about the rotation and revolution of earth, how a change would increase or decrease the days which makes life impossible here. And how position of Jupiter Stop astroids. Then the size of moon and position play's a huge role in lunar tide, which play's a huge role in life forming on the earth. Futher he talks about the Axis, speed, sunlight. Which all are fine tuned.
Then he talks about the probability of this being random. With an experiment, in a box there is cards with 1 to 10 numbers. What is the possibility of drawing the 10 cards in the exact order (1 to 10) from the first being one is 1/10 and gos on. And the chance to get it all in order is 1/ 10 crores. Even a simple explanation like that has only 1/10 crores chance. Which means the possibility of getting this is very less.
Then gives the Infinite monkey therom typing hamlet example. Then he try to calculate the possibility of typing just the sentence
"to be or not to be, that is the question"
To get "T" correct: 1/32
To get "TO" correct : 1/32 x 1/32
To get complete correct: 1/(5.1422017e+061)
Assume: Monkey typing one line(41 strokes per second)
Probability that monkey won't get the sentence correct in one second: 1-(1/32)41
•Probability that monkey won't get it in one minute : [1-(1/32)41]60
•Probability that monkey won't get it in one year: {[[[1-(1/32)41]60]60]24}365
Which is
0.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999993867218 44366784484760952487499968756116464000
Even if we take 1700 crore years
Probability is
0.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999998946 3961512816564762914005246488858434168051444149065 728
Till now he was talking about a single monkey, now let's take
17 billion galaxies, each with 17 billion planets, each with 17 billion monkeys, typing one line per second for 17 billion years!
Probability that monkey don't type this sentence:
0.9999999999999465759379507781960794856828386656482641321881042993265961 42975867879656916416973433628!!
The chance of getting a single sentence is so low, Hance this all being a chance it really low.
Then he kinda compare this with multiverse theory.
Then he ends with Occam's razor philosophy, where the simplest explaination is the best. He gives an example, imagine when you wake up in the morning, and the food is readied. What would be the possible explain, the simplest and most possible explanation is someone in your house cooked it rather than some complex explanation, of someone from outside bringed it, which is even though possible. The chances is low. The multiverse theory and everything like that is a complex explanation, we need a simplest explaination. And he also given a example of founding iPhone in a desert. You could have a simplest example where someone lost it, and a complex on where the iPhones chipset is made up of silica with is sand and the body is plastic which is made by petroleum product. So you could also say in this thousands of years the sand and petroleum converted some how to form an iPhone. It's complex, make it simple so someone lost It.
The reason why i think it's the best is just my subjective feeling, and i never seen some put creationism argument this.

2024.05.21 20:11 is_reddit_useful By reducing online activity, I learned more about why I need it

One of the most obvious problems with my life is the amount of time I've spent unproductively in front of a computer. It started with solitary offline programming projects, then offline gaming, then the internet, and especially Reddit.
There are various things I've done in the past that I value in retrospect. I only value a very small part of the time I've spent in front of a computer. Mostly it seems like a waste of time.
It is also obvious that spending time online negatively affects my mental state. I think of it as taking a break and having some rest, but it is almost never really rest. Also, after spending time online, my motivation for offline activities seems to decrease, and avoidance of various offline activities increases.
Recently I tried to decrease online activity. Part of this was via staying logged out of Reddit, and keeping the password stored in an inconvenient place. Active participation, via posting, commenting, or even voting, seemed more harmful and addictive than mere observation. Seems like my motivation gets redirected away from offline activity into those activities, plus the associated sense of reward makes going online more addictive.
Because of this, I was being more productive. I wasn't feeling great, but it was tolerable and I kept going. I accomplished some things I had been procrastinating.
If I needed a rest, going to lay down and maybe have a nap was better than going online. After that I would usually have motivation to do other things.
But then, after accomplishing one thing I was procrastinating that my mother seemed to want accomplished, I had a bad experience with her. That led to unacceptable emotional pain and then anger. It was very difficult to recover from this.
Online activity seems to help insulate me from unwanted feelings. Going for a walk and thinking about Reddit can seem kind of stupid. It seems better to be in the present moment and enjoy the world around me, especially on a beautiful spring day. But without that I end up focusing on various things I don't like in my life, and enjoying the experience even less.
There was also a change regarding food my mother cooks that I generally loved. Suddenly, for the first time, that happiness was gone. I only saw it as something unhealthy, fried, with too much oil in it. Normally I understand this issue theoretically, but my feelings focus on the habitual happy state of helping my mother make that and eating it.
Seems like I'm doing a kind of splitting, keeping the terrible experiences with my mother separate from the at least somewhat happy experiences. Fully processing theses feelings lead to the conclusion that psychological peace, not having to deal with the bad experiences with my mother, is far more important than enjoying good experiences with her cooking. Time spent online may help avoid this processing.
It may seem like the obvious solution is getting away from her. But I've almost never had okay experiences with being with other people offline. The other obvious problem with my life is lack of offline socializing. Even when I lived on my own, I felt addicted to the internet, apparently for relieving loneliness.

2024.05.21 20:10 nihilistlemon Tactics is the best

A while ago I made this post that I no longer believe in ( Tactics is the worst ) .
So what gives ? Basically tactics is the best at DOT builds , which is the strongest build in the game . The fact that it can stack DOT and buff them with mutations like tranquility , support or networking will melt any enemies and Spoiler Boss .
In the example of Spoiler Boss , there is high amount of off color scroll and what would be consider a mid or low main scroll for 5bc . That is because you could cheese the intended low health pool of tactics by taking and all dual scrolls off color . Doing so increases your survivability , making the run comfy and safe !
Also wanna touch on hit and run . Most players overestimate how fast enemies can get close , resulting in people taking mutations like point blank in bioms . Not every enemies in the game is a rampager , and even if enemies teleport to you , they still have a long windup before attacking . Try applying dot , hit the enemy twice , running away while using tranquility oand networking for non mobile users , and move to the next while the enemy dies off screen .
So the in short , if you stop taking pointblank in biomes , stop engaging enemies and finish your run with the in game timer in less than 30 minutes , tactics is the best to do so .

2024.05.21 20:08 Standard-Zombie-3106 Wrapping up day 4 of 10-12 a day with zazas

Wrapping up day 4 of 10-12 a day with zazas
Hey guys and gals,
Well I’ve been on here before for sometime. I always end up here, but this WD was not pleasant not that I would expect different. I’m finishing day 4, with no helper meds and powder Kratom. Days 2-3 were bad. 4 I felt better emotionally less anxiety but I could not stop sweating for the life of me.
Long story short I’ve been in FF for about a year.. same story as you all. I took it for mood balance euphoria, energy social lubricant. It gave me all those things until it didn’t.
Well stupid me thought hey why not trade zazas which I’ve never had before to get off ff. Anything. Is better than ff at this point. So I fucked around and got addicted, I should have know.
So I started mixing ff and Zaza. My daily ritual is 3 ff in the morning followed by 7 Zaza silver pills. Then throughout the day I built a tolerance quickly with Zaza and couldn’t drop the ff so I was fucked. Not only was ff expected so is this stuff plus I heard it’s worst and you build a tolerance quickly.
So literally for 4-5 months I lived this double like from friends and family. They astarted noticing I’m acting different here I am thinking I’m this charismatic person super sociable now.. although I did feel more talkative and dated a lot of girls.
I thought I had it under control until my finances took a toll. I was spending atleast 150 or more a day which is insane.
So fast forward my body starts to go through wd in the mornings heavy sweats crazy vivid dreams some I thought were so real and cool and some were horrid.
Well enough was enough. I was no longer myself, throwing up looking for a reason to buy more. I once took it to be sociable and it did the total opposite I was irritable. Like I wasn’t ever the problem everyone else is.
My fam is the one who noticed my dry skin and dark eyes. They eventually found a Zaza bottle that fell out outside. Needless to say I’m glad they found it so I can just come clean I was done!
I just want to encourage you, I had a nasty habit. No easy way just to face it. Just live and learn. This group means a lot to me. I couldn’t have done it without you.
I know I’m not out of the woods, but I feel like the acutes are done. I actually went back to work today on day 4. Please don’t lose hope. I feel like this is different this time I’m done. I’m 34 but I have family even holding me accountable. Before I was scared shitless of anyone finding out. But at the end I needed that. A wake up call.

2024.05.21 20:07 Westcoastswinglover Everything is still high…

I’m 29F 5,3 146 pounds and I followed the advice here and online and reduced saturated fat to less than 10g, increased fiber including adding psyllium husk and these are my results after 3 months (3rd pic shows 3 months ago results and last 2 are from prior years). I guess it’s a win that LDL is the lowest it’s been before but it’s still too high and my triglycerides are the highest they’ve been despite my carbs being almost entirely fruits, veggies, and whole grains. HDL is also the lowest it’s been (which I know doesn’t matter so much but it’s still odd) despite more exercise. I’m wondering if it’s possible my weight loss of 6 pounds at a rate of 1/2 a pound a week could be causing these to still be higher than they will eventually be once my weight stabilizes? I’m talking to the doctor tomorrow but is there anything else I can be doing to lower these or is it possibly just genetics I can’t do much about?

2024.05.21 20:06 Avar1cious The majority of smurfing + boosting + win trading cases can be addressed by re-adding Party mmr

The OG's know what I'm talking about. Back then, even though the average player base was a lot bigger, smurfing + boosting was significantly less of a big/exasperating issue. Back in 2015/2016, most high ranking players had a solo mmr and a party mmr usually 2-4k lower than their solo mmr. The culture was your solo mmr was your actual rank and your party mmr was basically better matchmaking for a "for fun" game, where you could get a balanced game with both sides trying goofy things like the classic singsing boots + oov dual roam back in the day. Solo players who wanted to avoid getting sucked into that bullshit had strict solo queue as an option.
  1. Having party mmr makes boosting a lot more of a pain in the ass for boosters. Back in the day, it was "impossible" to get boosted without giving away access to your account + skins (risking getting hacked) - something most people are not willing to do. If you tried to party with a bunch of high ranked players to get your mmr up, you would only increase your party mmr - the number which no one took seriously or cared about as a measure of your real rank. Now that they're linked, boosters have a much easier time getting customers as there's less "account risk" involved.
  2. All of the win-trading cases in immortal draft (made worse by double down) would also disappear and be pointless. Even before double downs, tons of players were partying together and take turns sending 1 member to the other team to grief/feed/win-trade. This is now even more efficient because the winning team doubles down. Same logic as 1), if party mmr were to be added, all this would get the offenders is party mmr, a metric no one cares about or takes seriously - all the would be doing is ruining their own matchmaking going forward, increasing their chances of running into an Aui2000 stack and getting railed.
  3. There's a number of smurfs that just want to go and bully new players - nothing we can do but to detect and ban those people. But there are a lot of players who earn a very high rank by try-harding on what they're best at, but from time to time also want to try dumb and fun shit or practice heroes that they're bad at. Since even unranked has a hidden mmr system, they can't do these things in either ranked or unranked without griefing their team. Previously, they just had party mmr for just this purpose - now that it's removed, a bunch of these players make smurf accounts (ie: Bulldog on the front page is a pretty good example of this).
  4. Sort of a cherry on top, but I would imagine it would reduce the efficiency of all those 10 man bot mmr farming lobbies if they couldn't party together in the matchmaker.
But that's my opinion as someone who's lived through both systems - would love to know what everyone else thinks.

2024.05.21 20:06 Quick_Secret2705 Make it make sense

I know everyone’s body changes after pregnancy. I don’t think I have unrealistic expectations. I had two c sections one year apart from each other. I know that does damage. I’m 3 months pp right now. I’ve been dieting since 2 weeks pp and lifting when I can once I was cleared. I now weight less than I did before both pregnancies yet I look 4 months pregnant if I melted a little. Like my body shape is melted candle for sure lol so where did I lose the weight from? 🤣 I don’t have diastasis recti before anyone says that. I was checked at my last appointment. I don’t mind a soft belly or a little c section pouch but like why do I still look so pregnant?? I’m not even trying to get “skinny” I just want my stomach to not look like someone left me out in the sun too long.
I’m going to keep working out and dieting etc. I’m really just curious if anyone else is in this boat? How is it possible to weigh less and look bigger lol

TW: ED
Hello. I just turned 34 y/o and also just recently found out that I have DOR. The first fertility clinic we went to never told me that I had low AFC and low AMH. So I was stuck in limbo and never told what to do to make things better. Was just told to call when I start my period so I can start birth control. But we had to get finances in check since insurance doesn’t pay for IVF (my husband is in the military). So, we waited 3 months to start and they tried to tell me to do mini IVF because I’ll get 8-9 embryos that way and it’s quality over quantity. But, they wanted to charge me more to do mini stim? I thought mini stim costs less? They were charging $18,000. So I consulted a different clinic and within a week, had a DOR diagnosis.
AMH- .5 AFC- 4
I’m currently on day 5 of my first ER cycle and on Low dose HCG 20IU, Clomid 100 mg, Gonal-F 450IU. I primed with estradiol patches .1 mg every other day. I just got the call from my first monitoring appt and I have a whopping 3 follicles. 2 on the right and 1 on the left. My E2 is in the high 400s so I’m assuming that’s a good sign that the eggs are atleast growing, right? They made me start ganirelix today to delay ovulation. So, I started that 2 days prior. My next appt isn’t until Friday and I’m concerned.
My husband and I have no other health problems. I’ve never smoked, I’ve never done drugs, and I have 1-2 drinks per year.. if that. The only thing I have against me is I had a severe eating disorder for years. I’m not recovering from it to try for a baby. I had 2 unassisted conceptions when I was in my early 20’s with a previous relationship. And I’m just wondering where the heck my eggs went? 🤦🏻‍♀️
We had the beacon carrier screening done and I only showed up positive for one thing and my husband was positive for one thing as well but it was something different than mine so we should be good there! I know it’s “quality over quantity” but I’m losing hope here. I don’t know what’s wrong.
I told my gyno a year ago that I was having severe cramping on my left side all throughout my cycle and extreme bloating. For almost 2 years. And she did a pelvic exam and said everything “seems fine” and this was “just part of my cycle” and just sent me home. Now because my left ovary isn’t responding, I’m concerned that something is wrong with the ovary.
Are my chances gone? Should I call the doctor and just cancel this cycle? I mean I’ve wasted $19,000 on this cycle. And I’m just not getting any follicles. Is there still hope?
Thanks in advance and I’m glad I found you guys!

2024.05.21 20:00 Equivalent_Piano_288 How Much Salary Should I Ask For a Job role ? please help!

I need some advice on what to answer when HR asks about my current salary and expected salary. Whenever I apply anywhere, this question pops up every single time. It's funny how Indian HRs don't see the necessity of mentioning how much they're willing to pay for the role. If I ask for more than they've budgeted, they won't even consider my application. If I ask for less, they won't give me a chance to negotiate for a better salary. It's a pretty hard game to play.
My current CTC is 2.28 LPA. Is it okay if I ask for 5 LPA? I'm a MERN stack developer with good experience in the frontend department. Please help!

2024.05.21 20:00 marieantoilette How to avoid worsening CFS if getting flu/covid is bad and your friends are working in close contact jobs like kindergarden? I'm starting to be paranoid to even meet friends with a minor cold.

I'm 25, biologically male. It's not yet entirely certain that I have CFS, mind you. But after a mild(ish) case of covid early January I have suddenly had a few crashes multiple times after feeling "like I'm fit again", even when just seeing some friends for a few hours. I also have autism and already experienced post covid symptoms last year for three months where I couldn't walk without pain anymore, never explained. Autism also increases the risk of long covid, so I guess that's why I got the double whammy inspite of two very mild infections. Now, assuming I have CFS.
TL;DR at the end, the next two paragraphs are some basic ranting of a newbie here. But my biggest question is the final paragraph.
[You can skip my personal history, but some rant: Now too much screen time gives me a headache, and when I get overly excited during a good phase I'm all gucci until I lie down for a second and my body allows me to, well, crash. This is not foreign to me as autist but has never been so bad in my life, not to mention lasting longer than a day or two. It takes so long to get better. Realized something was off when I crashed after every dentist visit (bad teeth due to depression as a teenager x)). I don't experience muscle aches though, no brain fog. Just headache when too much screen time, severe fatigue for a week when, say, making the mistake to go big shopping and cooking the same day. I have however travelled 500 kilometres with a train to meet my long-distance partner (:c) and while I was a bit fatigued, it was okay by being vigilant and not do much. I'm nigh always wearing ear protection and sunglasses outside now because that is stressful to me. Driving a car too long gives me a headache too. Everything works on its own, but if I do too much one day, I'll get it coming. Headaches and body fatigue seem to come independently from one another, at least.]
t's been over four months now and I'm very worried. Maybe it's not CFS, but for some peace of mind let's assume for this question that it is. I am good at accepting things that I can't control. But I don't want the pain to get worse. I have lost a lot of weight in these past months because of lack of exercise (which in my case is not good because I'm very slim) but exercise also seems to be unadvisable. What triggers worsening the condition is what I'm trying to learn right now. Minor fatigue or bad crashes and then just keep going, like having a broken foot that will heal, but not if you stubbornly keep walking with it? Or is any crash a risk?
TL;DR: Now if every covid infection is according to some statistics associated with a higher risk of post covid (of any kind), that seems like a grandiose fatalist fact to me. Because is one to avoid that? Should I never leave my house again? (Hyperbole.. or... shouldn't I?) I have read how severe CFS looks and while I am absolutely unable to work, at all, thankfully I live in a country that helps me out with the minimum (paid flat and some change for food). That's all fine and dandy, but every year, one risks to catch a cold. This cold may very well be covid. In fact, in my experience this has been unavoidable every year, I have been infected with covid a couple of times. My friends are all working in kindergardens or as ergotherapists and if there's something out there, they'll probably get it. Not to mention some of them like to party. I don't want to lose these friends though. Then I'm really all alone.
Are we to gamble never to get covid, or any upcoming virus, ever? Vaccinations, sure, but I'm just asking, realistically, what are the odds? Probably this is a "welcome to being a risk patient" situation, but with 25 I have plenty of years to utterly crash since every single case of flu/covid risks me getting worse, so how am I supposed to not just expect that to happen? I'm very scared. Thanks for any advise.

2024.05.21 19:58 livarobinn Family Name Change in USA

Family Name Change in USA
A person's decision to family name change is significant and meaningful to them and their loved ones. It's a procedure that involves more than just filing papers; it involves changing identities, securing estates and preparing for new beginnings. The decision to change a family name is a reflection of changing society standards and personal preferences in the United States where variety is valued and individual liberty is accepted.
Understanding the Value of Family Names
Family names are much more than simply labels; they are linked with our cultures, history and identities. They hold our forefathers' tales and family customs that have been handed down through the centuries. Family names connect us to our ancestors and give us a feeling of acceptance and connection. Family names are used in society as identifiers to set one person apart from another in a group. They have an impact on how we see ourselves and how others see us and they are important in legal papers, official records and social interactions. Also, family names frequently have symbolic connotations that represent regional origins, beliefs in religion or cultural customs. They honor those who came before us and serve as a reminder of our common history.
The importance of family names helps to explain why surname change is a serious choice. It entails balancing one's own identity with one's family's blood, handling complicated legal issues and taking the societal consequences of such a big change into consideration.
Reasons for Changing Family Names in USA
Knowing the reason of family name changes highlights the importance of this choice in people's lives and draws attention to the variety of factors that lead to these modifications. The main reasons are:
Marriage
One of the most popular reasons people decide to change their family name is marriage. Partners may choose to take one another's surname as a mark of unity and loyalty. Some spouses may want to honor their respective family identities by hyphenating both surnames. The choice to change one's family name after marriage is very personal and might be affected by social, cultural or personal values.
Divorce
As part of their struggle for independence and self-reinvention, people may decide to choose a whole new surname or attempt to go back to their maiden name after a divorce. Regaining their old name usually signals a couple's intent to close the chapter on their previous relationship and return to who they were before marriage. It may be strong and symbolic of a fresh start to change a family name after divorce.
Adoption
Adopted children and adults may choose to take on the surname of their adopted family. This choice creates stronger familial ties and represents how they fit into the new family. Adopting a child and creating a new family name are involves a significant emotional and legal change as the adoptee accepts their new family identity and builds relationships with their new relatives.
Legal Process of Changing Family Names in USA
It takes careful attention to detail and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations to successfully navigate the legal process of changing a family name. Below are the key steps involved in the legal process of changing a family name:
Filing a Petition
Filing a petition with the local court is the first step in changing a family name. A name change petition usually contains the petitioner's existing name, their desire for a new name, reasons for the name change (such as marriage, divorce or adoption) and any supporting evidence. A filing fee could also be required for the applicant to pay as part of the procedure.
Publication Requirement
A publishing requirement exists for family name changes in multiple countries. This entails notifying the public and providing an opportunity for any concerns to be expressed about the family name change by posting a notice in the local newspaper. The purpose of the publication requirement is to guarantee openness and provide those who are interested a chance to express any reservations they may have about the planned family name change.
Court Hearing
A court hearing is usually set following the filing of the petition and the fulfillment of any publication requirements. The petitioner might have to appear in front of the court during the hearing to make their case for the family name change. Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and the judge will examine the petition and any supporting materials and may pose additional questions. A court order formally authorizing the intended name change will be issued if the judge grants the request.
Costs Associated with Family Name Change in USA
The state and county in which the petition is submitted determine the exact price of changing a family name. On the other hand, typical costs that includes court filing fees which can run from a few hundred to rather small amounts. These fees pay for the administrative expenses involved in using the court system to complete the name change petition.
If someone decides to engage a lawyer to help with the name change procedure then they may also have to pay legal fees in addition to court fees. Legal counsel may prove advantageous, and particularly when understanding complex legal requirements or handling any challenges that may surface throughout the process. The total cost of altering a family name may be considerably increased by legal expenses. Changing a family name pays a number of charges that including court fees, publishing costs and any other costs related with changing legal documents and records.
Conclusion
Changing a family name is a big decision with practical, emotional and legal consequences. People may go through this change with confidence and clarity if they know what to expect and how to proceed.

2024.05.21 19:56 ImpatientBrat My PC Fans kick into Turbo mode every time GPU hits 83*C/84*C Temperature

Hi everyone, for the past 6 months Ive been troubleshooting this problem regularly, but Ive yet to find a solution for it so Im hoping you can help me out.
Basically, everytime I play any Video Game that pushes my GPU temperature to around 83*C/84*C., my PC fans go absolutely nuts. Im talking revving up from like 60% to 100% in less than a second and the noise increase is insane. I know its at that temperature specifically because I watched over my Task Manager on my second Monitor. It stops revving as soon as the GPU temps goes down to 82*C or less. I run a RTX 3070 and Ive yet to encounter a game that made it rise above 85*C, given that I dont max out my Graphics settings too much, yet this keeps accuring even if I set the Graphic Settings lower.
I know what you might be thinking, ''You have a spike in your PC fan curve editor at that temperature'' and in fact, that was the first thing I thought myself, but no matter how much I tweak around with the fan curve in MSI, even if I set it to 60% Fan utilization at 100*C, it keeps happening, regardless of what game im playing, but only when Im playing games. To be clear, Ive owned this PC for 3 years now, and it only started occurring around a few months ago absolutely randomly whilst playing GTA, I cant think of anything that could've triggered it.
I have tried reinstalling my drivers. It didnt fix it. Multiple windows updates had no effect whatsoever. Undervolting my GPU for lower temps hasnt fixed anything. I have not gotten any Virus or Malware warning from Windows. I have seen no signs of Mining Malware, my CPU utilization and temps are fine. I have even messed around with some console commands recommended by YouTube videos and other forum posts, but nothing has helped.
At this point im at a loss, and im considering taking my GPU to a tech store to see if something is broken in the hardware.
I would really apprechiate any outside perspective as Im not much of a software guy myself, and Im really at my wits end here. Any tip is much apprechiated.

2024.05.21 19:55 neverbeenstardust Passing Isn't Binary

I see so many trans people talk about passing as a binary yes/no question like either you pass or you don't and if you pass to one person you pass to everyone and if one person says you pass and someone else doesn't then someone is lying and frankly I think passing when you're in the middle of your transition is like 40-60% on you and 60-40% what your observers are bringing to the table.
Like there's the obvious stuff:
Where do you live? I know I've seen posts from trans women talking about having an easier time passing in majority conservative areas where a man would never be caught dead in a dress so if you're in a dress and don't have a beard then you're read as a woman.
Do you pass better in pictures or IRL? Some people post only their most flattering angles and get mad about being hugboxed by people who don't see things that are visible in a 360. Other people have traits that are "obvious" if you're used to staring at pictures of trans people all day to decide if they pass that never get noticed IRL because they have body language down.
But also so much of it just comes down to the individual you're interacting with and what their experience is. Maybe your cashier has worse eyesight than you expected. Maybe the librarian had a butch aunt so she's always looking to build connections with butches. Maybe the grocery store clerk is an incel who's the only person in fifty miles who actually pays that much attention to jawlines. Maybe you look a bit like the bus driver's sister who has a strong jaw too. Maybe the light in the movie theater happened to create a shadow on your neck that looked like an adam's apple to the attendant, who is also on the shorter side himself. Maybe the guy at the dog park has a high pitched voice too. Maybe the lady at the gym just moved here from Utah and is still very worried about the transes.
Last election, I went up to one desk and the worker there called me "sir" and then passed me along to the next worker who called me "ma'am". Neither one of them hesitated or gave me any kind of looks or gave me any reason to believe they were doing anything but doing bland polite customer service (I live in an area where calling people "sir" and "ma'am" is common)
So, do you pass? There are a lot of things you can do to hedge your bets and increase your odds of being read the way you want to be read, but at the end of the day, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Way more often than we'd like to admit, whether we pass or not has very little to do with us.

2024.05.21 19:53 surfpenguinz IamA Career Clerk - Clerkship Application Thoughts

Hello! I am a career clerk for a federal district court judge. I have also worked as a term clerk for a federal CoA judge and associate at a litigation boutique.
In years past, I have done a short post with clerkship application thoughts. Today, OSCAR alerted me that opening day of the hiring plan is less than a month away, so thought I'd revive this post. I encourage other clerks to chime in. Usual caveats apply: I work for a very competitive district and every chambers is different.
  1. Apply broadly. OSCAR makes the process so simple that the only opportunity cost is your time and ego. The process is a crapshoot and you never know what might catch the reviewer's eye. When in doubt, keep applying.
  2. Apply early. Hiring is time consuming and most chambers want it done ASAP. Unless there will be a material change that greatly improves your application (eg, law review), there is little benefit to waiting.
  3. Application. For us, your law school and law school grades matter to the exclusion of most everything else. Law review is required, barring exceptional circumstances. Participation on a secondary journal matters very little. Letters of recommendation are not impactful unless very good ("One of the best students I've ever had.") or very bad ("I would not recommend this student."), and both are rare. Professor calls are impactful but similarly rare. I prefer short cover letters and will note geographic ties. Typos are usually disqualifying.
  4. Writing sample. I will read your writing sample and ask you about it during the interview. We prefer something short (8-10 pages) that mimics the work of a clerk (memos, briefs, etc.), but understand not everyone has access to that. Personally, I find 1L written work to be the weakest writing sample.
  5. Work experience. A decade ago, we exclusively hired 2Ls and 3Ls. Now, it is an even split of law students and law firm associates, which seems to be the trend nationwide. In my experience, applicants will enjoy far more clerkship success with (even hypothetical) law firm experience.
  6. Reviewing applications. I review every application. Last year, I gave an extended look to ~50 applications and forwarded 8 to my judge, who interviewed 4 candidates for 2 term clerk spots.
  7. The interview. The interview helps us determine if the application is a good fit for for the position. We are interested in your work ethic, critical thinking skills, personality, and ability to work with a team. Any post-interview concerns is usually disqualifying.
  8. Summer employment. Your 1L summer job is not significant, if law related. Your 2L summer job is more important, with big law expected but not required.
  9. OCS. I have found OCS to be of little help unless the applicant is in the top 5 or 10%. Assume you are on your own if your law school has not reached out to you.
  10. Politics. Your political beliefs are irrelevant unless we believe (usually through the interview) they would interfere with your ability to be an effective clerk. That being said, participation in Fed Soc and ACS does appear to matter to some of my colleagues, especially those on the appellate level. In short, YMMV.
That's all for now. I am happy to answer questions in this thread or via DM. I am also happy to review clerkship applications. Otherwise, good luck with your applications.

2024.05.21 19:52 AltairRC 1 Year with Xiaomi 12T

I won't say that I am writing a proper review or something. Just sharing my personal experience with my Xiaomi 12T. Excuse my English, it's not my first language. Btw I am from SEA, the weather here is either hot most of the time or just a little bit cold because of heavy rain during rainy season. Some of the most popular games here I would say are ML/Mobile Legends (still playing on my 12T) and PUBGM/PUBG Mobile (stop playing on my 12T cause I play on my iPad).
First of all, why do I bought my current Xiaomi 12T? Because my phone before, Poco X3 Pro, just died while I am PUBG Mobile. When I search through the internet, I figured it out that there're many Poco X3 Pro out there with the same problem as mine. So, I brought it to the closest service center and it is the motherboard burn or something. And, the cost for replacing the motherboard is like >90% of the price I paid for when I bought my Poco X3 Pro. The customer service's staff advice me not to repair it, so I do. At this point, I just use my Poco X3 Pro for almost one year and a half (1.5 year) which is unacceptable because my phone before that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 being my main for 3.5 years at least. Even though, my Redmi Note 5 is just sitting on my desk, it is still alive until today which make it almost 6 years. I just open and charge it once in while. And for it entire lifespan, I just change it's battery and charging port, that's all.
So, even though part of me being "I won't buy Xiaomi any more" because of my not so good experience with my Poco X3 Pro. There's still part of me feel like giving Xiaomi a second chance with 2 reasons.
  1. I have a very good experience with my Redmi Note 5. Even though I tortured it as much as my Poco X3 Pro and try to bent it through the back like JerryRigEverything, it still survive.
  2. Maybe I just being unlucky and got into problem this time around with my Poco X3 Pro. Like, that's why warranty exist because it's not like 100% product manufactured is completely perfect. Unfortunately, mine is out of warranty. And maybe this is why an ex-flagship chip Snapdragon 860 can be put inside such a budget device.
So, while waiting for my Xiaomi 12T, I back to using my Redmi Note 5. Even though it was lagging and "old smartphone problem" everything, it still get the basic job done. Then, my Xiaomi 12T arrived. I can't really remember my whole experience from the beginning to right now with 12T as I don't write on note or something, I will just write this base on my memories.
First few weeks/month, honeymoon phase some will say. Few things that I notice compared to my Poco X3 Pro is that the 120Hz is much smoother and the AMOLED is beautiful. 108mp is an upgrade compared to 48mp on Poco X3 Pro, I keep zooming and testing on the camera and the snap/shutter is much more responsive. 120w is really fast and hot. Under display optical fingerprint scanner is much more convenient than side mounted fingerprint, not sure if it is faster. I can play ML at high graphic and Ultra/120fps frame rate, 90fps smooth on PUBGM. I really enjoy my Xiaomi 12T. So, I will say these is few things that I realized as a significant upgrade compared to Poco X3 Pro.
So here are a few problems or things that I personally don't like with my Xiaomi 12T. 1. PUBGM even though 90fps is enable, it was not that enjoyable. Meshes/Texture was not completely rendered. I am not sure if this is the correct word. Like, I can see the building and structure but the surface of those building and structure take few seconds or never rendered.
  1. I rarely use the ultrawide unless I really need it. Never touch the macro lens, I rather use the main camera and zoom/crop in. Main camera is good with enough light and not-that-good on lowlight situation. The other thing I don't really like is the colour processing on the default camera app as I don't see such problem with third party app. Which is the black colour or dark area being processed quite weird, it look unnatural in my eyes.
  2. Sometime, quite rarely, it didn't detect when I try to charge it. I am sure it was charging but somehow the charging notification or something didn't appear. I can solved it by unplug and re plug again. If that doesn't work, I will try to reboot the device. Then, it detect the charging.
  3. "Power button ghosting" I would say. It rarely happened but the first time it happened it was really frustrating as I can't use my phone as it continue to power off and power on itself for half a day. The next time this almost-same problem happened again, it is not that problematic and frustrating as the first time but still a problem.
  4. ML unstable performance. Sometimes, if it's alright, I can do high graphics 120fps. When it was not alright, no matter what I do even though put the graphic on low, it still lagging/low frame rate. When war, it can drop under 15 fps when not alright. I don't use app or tool to measure, but my eyes know that is definitely under 15 fps. So, I tried to delete some games and heavy stuff and maintain my storage around 200GB/256GB, it was alright for a while. Then, it come back again. I tried to delete some stuff more, it seem to not disappeared. Maybe I should delete more stuffs, but what the points of me buying 256GB if I can't use it all.
All in all, I have a good time with my Xiaomi 12T if the above problem does not occur. Maybe because I become much more tech-nit-picky as my knowledge about smartphone and technology increased and I know how a good phone should act. It's a midrange device after all, I know I can't expect it to perform like a flagship.
