As the title says, I have terrible performance issues on my PC despite numerous friends and websites saying I supposedly can run it just fine.
Specs:
CPU - i7-9700k RAM - 16GB 2666MHz 2 x 8GB GPU - GTX 1080 8GB Founders Storage - 1tb SSD
If there are any other specs you need to know, just ask, but ultimately I just want to know, from the source, can I run this and if so, what settings do you all recommend? Because I tried it on all on low, performance upscaling, everything off and so on, literally a low as possible and I was getting, maybe 20 fps? My friend told me to start in Area 18. No clue if starting zone affects it, but the performance is horrible and I grabbed it because I was told by friends that recent updates have made it more playable and improved performance.

Short story
Home sprinkler zone low pressure in fall no pressure in spring. System was winterized. Manual opening the valve I cannot hear the valve close.
Long story
Last fall a working zone at home lost a lot of pressure.
I checked all of the sprinklers and they did not have a break and seemed to function although at lower pressure..
I could find no soft or wet spots on the long run to the zone, or by any sprinkler heads.
I capped off several of the sprinkler ends to see what that would do.
I gave up for the winter.
Springtime and I uncap one end and put a garden hose on it and see the sprinklers working not full pressure but itā€™s not a tight connection.
I try turning the valve on manually and nothing is coming on, last fall it was just very lower pressure now nothing.
I notice that when I turn the valve off on this zone I can not hear it shut off. The other valves I can but not this zone.
Help please.

It all began some months ago, when I reunited with some friends that I used to play with a lot during our childhood, and we took the chance to relive those moments again. Since it was only 3 of us, we didn't feel like always playing 1v1 with one left to watch, and felt like a 3 player duel would have been more fun. We used to do that all the time back then, having even 4+ players at a time because we didn't have that many concerns and our decks were pretty simple anyway, but now, after we all played Master Duel and got a taste of modern play, we had to adapt.
As a general way to handle rulings, we settled on the following:
Since our decks aren't that advanced anyway (we are on Traptrix, HERO and Resonators respectively), we are perfectly fine with this ruleset and we can basically play as if it was a Commander game. But if this was applied to a different context, where all cards are playable, it would probably turn into a ruling nightmare.
First of all, we managed to get away by not playing cards that interact with opponent zones, but how would you handle, for example, Relinquished Anima? Would that allow to steal both the opposing monsters in the respective zone? Would Impermanence's column effect apply to all three players? What would Mekk-Knights even do?
Do you think the game would balance itself spontaneously with no further bans? Going third would imply playing through double the normal amount of interruptions, but going first or second would imply playing through double the normal amount of handtraps. I'm honestly really curious about how it would turn out.
Teaming could become a problem, especially if one player has a way to lock an opponent or skip a turn. No one would like to go second and get Calamity locked while the third player sets up a board and the first player OTKs uninterrupted. But if the first player is targeted by the third player, it could end up making the lock less relevant, as the first player would have to defend themselves from the third player's onslaught and the second player can have a chance to recover.
Floodgates will still be powerful, as stuff like Anti-Spell Fragrance and Skill Drain would affect twice the normal amount of players, but maybe stuff like Inspector Boarder could be easier to out, as two players might be on two decks with multiple different summoning methods and thus they could have more effects available. Plus, one more player can mean twice the odds of getting out a Cyclone if someone tries to Fossil Dyna + MMS.
Overall, if a proper set of interactions is established, I think this idea has a chance of working. I couldn't, however, think of all possible instances, so what would you think?

The meds consist of a transdermal patch (estrogen) plus a nightly 100mg progesterone capsule.
The progesterone, when run through my insurance at CVS, the "co-pay" was over $100. When NOT run through insurance, using a standard GoodRx coupon (not a one-time-only deal), it was $20.
Why is it so much more through insurance?

I'm new to elsastic and i have been trying to get my cisco logs to show up in elastic. i have tried setting up the cisco logs intergation all with no luck. I keep getting a message that "No data has been received from this module yet". I may have an issue with the filebeat.yml or cisco.yml file.

2024.05.21 16:33 OutBeyondNeptune (Reasonable) Storm Preparedness

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this, but there seems to be little in the way of what I would consider reasonable storm preparedness without getting into overpowered whole home compound backup solutions. I live in the south in a sizable neighborhood powered by URD, so we don't have power outages often but being in a hurricane zone does mean there's potential for several days' outage.
I have 10 year old solar panels on the home, but I'm given to understand that if I were to put a whole home battery on it I'd have to have a new inverter and/or the panels rewired. For the cost of that (and how quickly the technology is moving) I think I'd be okay waiting another 10 years and just replace the whole system. In the meantime, I have a 1 kWh Ecoflow battery and a 2200w suitcase generator. Current strategy when the power goes out is to use the 1kW battery to power a few lights, the refrigerator, deep freeze, and WiFi/TV until the storm has passed, and then switch out to the gas-powered generator and run all that plus a small 5000 BTU window AC after the storm passes. But this involves running heavy extension cords from one side of the house to the other.
I've seen that GoalZero has a transfer switch with four circuits that's not too unreasonably priced. The main panel is in the garage, so probably not ideal to store a battery long term. But I could run 1) Master Bedroom/Window AC/Wifi/TV, 2) Refrigerator, 3) Garage DooDeep Freeze, 4) Microwave (of course, I know I'd have to turn everything off to run the microwave). I do have concerns since the Goal Zero transfer switch is only a 15 amp input on it, not sure if running a window AC, refrigerator, and freezer would be too much for it.
My question is... Would it be foolish to have such a small transfer switch installed to use what I've already got without the hassle of running extension cords? It would open up the possibility of replacing the Ecoflow with one of GoalZero's larger batteries for a few thousand. Or, for the expense, would it be better to install something like EcoFlow's smart panel that switches over power automagically? Or is there something that I'm just not seeing here where I could utilize these big solar panels on the house in a power outage, since it seems they're completely wasted in that case?

So at my store all my shift are 4 hours in the beauty department. One day I come in check in and was told to do some training as well as my manager taking to me for 20 mins about some new training paper. After that Iā€™m 45 mins in to my shift. I work on pushes and priorities. As thatā€™s my manager pulling eyelashes from the shelf and telling me to back stock. Okay Iā€™ll do it. After a while I have 62 priorities I have to do, 24 are the eyelashes I just back stocked. As this is happeneing Iā€™m taking care of the guest running back and forth between beauty and tech and the front and at this point have have spent 1 hour and 20mins walking to get keys and talking with guest to get them the product. Reshop is also overfilled that I have. I tell the closing manager that what I had backstocked in the first place I have to now pull. She told me to revise the location and make it right, that took me 20 mins because Iā€™m really trying not to mess up. Iā€™ve only been there for 2 months. I am 20 mins past my clock out time and last time I was told that I should be clocking out right at my time. I told the closing manager that I donā€™t think I will be able to get this done. She said ,ā€you should have managed your time betterā€. ā€œYou shouldnā€™t leave till all your stuff is doneā€ I told her I could get some of it done but I want able to do it all, I would have to be leaving a three tear with some stuff in it. I was so frustrated I put my stuff away, called I was out for the day and left. 30 mins after my clock out time. This whole time I felt that I was set up to fail, with no support. I am not able to take care of guests, walk the entire store, backstock, reshop, priorityā€™s, zone and training (that already took almost an our out of my shift) in 4 hours.
Let me know what conversation I am about to walk in on my next shift.

I swear to God Almighty the team mates I get are just the worst.
From Loba's who don't know what a Fucking syringe is while IN the zone, to the stupid fucking Fuse i played with.
Yesterday was horrendous for ranked, I'm not huge on grinding and not very good, but I was trying to get past Bronze 3 and was at 498, the minimum I needed was to survive a SINGLE ring closing to get Bronze 2.
My first game wasn't too bad, I got 3 kills, my other team mate got 3 kills, and the Loba got 4 kills with only 300 damage (this was prior to needing 2 rp for Bonze 2)
We got third partied while fighting another squad and me and my team mate got nocked and killed, the ring was closing and the Loba was the only one alive. I swear, the people who play this game have 2 brain cells, one for pushing a team solo and the other for rage quitting. This Loba was so fucking stupid, using her Tac in the worst possible situations and not even bothering to use a syringe once after the zone closed. I know she had at least ONE bc i dropped some for them previously. They died to zone trying to race to the Respawn Beacon with our banners, wasn't even close.
The Fuse i played with died 3 times before I did and pushed the same team after the first 2 respawns, running in the open and finished the game with 2 knocks and 400 damage, I finished with 2 kills, 3 knocks, and 950 damage.
I truly don' understand what was going through his head each time he pushed solo, I carried his ass so hard despite my skill level and he doesn't even bother to try. The last time he died he was rotating to make it to the next ring even though it wasn't even close to us or closing yet. I was healing while he ran away, he ran into another team and near instantly died, I died trying to grab his banner.
When i was finally at the point of only needing 2 Rp to rank up i proceeded to get good team mates, but they dropped hot every. single. fucking. time. We fight, get 4th partied, die. Back to the lobby and repeat, this happened for 9 games straight before I was finally jump master and dropped us somewhere without 6 squads.
Please stop dropping hot every single game, it gets old fast, give me some time to loot and prepare at the very least.

Why do I keep expecting something different from them??
It's been exactly five or so years since I distanced myself emotionally from my parents, but I don't think I've fully grasped it yet. For one, I still depend on them as I still live with them, unable to move currently without much money. I'm in my twenties.I wish I had the privilege to move out immediately and not come back, but at this point, I'm just saving up.
For two, something in me always hopes and even expects them to soften up and change. For context, they are emotionally distant, narcissistic, extremely self centered and childish people. Unfortunately I have adopted some of their mannerisms because that's what they taught me. When you're upset, shut down and run away. When you're angry, yell. When you're feeling sad and want to cry, bottle it up because no one wants to hear it. When you got good news, don't expect it to stay around. When your life is not going your way, blame everyone but yourself.
I'm still trying to unlearn these things but honestly it's hard. I thought the first step to unlearning these things was distancing myself from those two completely and verbally making boundaries. Then I was emotionally manipulated by my mother who cried and blamed me for "taking advantage" of their kindness and then shouted that no one would be there for me like her and my father would, except they literally aren't there for me emotionally and not even financially. When I talk to them about anything they turn the other way or zone out or offer nothing. But these are the people who "are the only ones out here willing to protect me". My mother also repeatedly excused the psychological neglect and emotional stunted behavior exhibited by my father, and would never call him out on the behalf of me. She cared more about defending herself from his stupidity than calling him out when he was acting that way towards me.
I caved. I thought seeing her cry was going to be a good thing. A good sign. I thought it wasn't that she was listening and that she'd understand. And maybe I was being too harsh. But no. No. She's still a cold and emotionally removed bitch. My dad is still a childish asshole who blames the world before he blames himself. These people never changed. I have given them chances to apologize and rectify their behaviors for years and they never did. And even though I kept hoping and praying for a moment that they would, they never did. They just stayed as cold and removed as always. They don't care and they never cared. But I keep gravitating back and trying to be nice but every time, I get let down, again, and a fucking gain.
But like I don't know why I keep coming back and expecting them to change. It's a difficult situation since I can't leave them until I get a new place and a car of my own.

My time clock has been drifting and I noticed that the settings in the web GUI for NTP Servers would not allow me to add any address saying it could not be reached. However, if I ping them from the shell, the ping is successful.

2024.05.21 16:04 RVTim Mini-Split Ceiling Cassette 3-zone Drain and Line questions

I'm looking at doing a 3 zone mini-split to keep my summer cooling working better as my central A/C doesn't keep up on hot days. Ideally this will be the primary system and the central A/C will just be for added cooling.
I'm planning 2 bedrooms with the Mr Cool 9K ceiling cassettes, and a living room with an 18K ceiling cassette. The reason it's all ceiling cassettes is partly aesthetic, but in reality only one of those rooms has an outside wall on the side of the house that the compressor would go, so it really the practical way too. It's on the upper floor of a split-level house.
Given that I will do ceiling cassettes, my plan was to run all the lines across the ceiling in the insulated attic, and come out by following the slope of the roof, above the plate that the roof trusses sit on. Then it would end up in a soffit, so I'd have to punch a hole in the soffit panel, and come down the side of the house. My question is, does that sound reasonable? I know ceiling cassettes are far less commonly used, so maybe I won't get many replies on that.
The other question is regarding the drains for the ceiling units. They have pumps in them, and I was thinking of running all 3 drains into a single 1" pipe or Pex-A that runs down an interior wall above a laundry sink. Presently our furnace A/C lift pump just drains into our sink drain, and so does an RO water system, so I figured this would just be one more bit of water going down the drain. This is in a northern climate, so that keeps much of the path buried under insulation and above freezing. That said, I don't think in the winter when using the heating mode, that it generates condensate, correct?
Just looking for general advice. I haven't purchased anything yet, but will only do a DIY system, which is why I am looking at Mr Cool. Would love comments on other options that could be done DIY. This week I would like to get a good measure of estimated line lengths, and just order it all and get it on it's way. I figure one day in the attic running stuff should be enough to get that portion done. Then just connect it all up and see how it works.

He has a lot of trauma about not having enough to eat, very stereotypical walk in pantry, hoarding food, loving deals on food, extreme couponing, etc. He passed on a lot of that to me. I adore fine dining but I also love garbage food or street food. I carry around leftovers and shamelessly wrap things up in napkins and throw them in my purse. I have bags of almonds in my car and stashes of food at all my friends houses. Food is my love language, I love cooking it for my friends, being cooked for, etc.
So two nights ago, my best friend and I took my roommate out to a very expensive steakhouse for his birthday. I donā€™t have a lot of money but Iā€™m doing okay, Iā€™ve been saving up to take him out for a while because heā€™s done a lot for me. It was definitely a big treat for us to go though. Since I donā€™t eat much at once, I had a lot of leftovers (plus the bones my friends didnā€™t finish so I could chew on them later which I know is weird but let me be happy okay?) I gave my boyfriend the lobster mac but saved the steak for sandwiches for the next couple days.
Yesterday, my bf was having a really bad day. He woke up late for work, had to rush out the door. He was supposed to work just the morning shift but his coworker asked him if heā€™d cover her night shift since she was hungover, and sheā€™d bring him food. She didnā€™t, and he was upset. He went from 9 am to 11 pm without eating. Obviously Iā€™m upset too, I offer to doordash him something, I wouldā€™ve brought him food but I was working on set. I get worried about him because he doesnā€™t eat sometimes, and because he was having a bad day he was already super withdrawn. He told me heā€™d make pasta when he got home.
I guess you see where this is going, he ate my steak, I was absolutely devastated. His reasoning was that he had brought me food from set the previous day but in my mind itā€™s nowhere close. I know I shouldnā€™t have but I blew up at him, cried a lot, etc. He offered to take me to another steak house but itā€™s not about the steak itā€™s about how I build up this food in my head and think about it several times a day looking forward to eating it and then itā€™s not there. I told him that and he told me I should bring that up with my therapist. Is my relationship with food is unhealthy? Iā€™ve had issues before where people touch my food without asking so Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s me. I feel guilty for yelling at him and then running out the door and crying in my car. AITA?

Since SC is moving into a phase where more focus is going to actual gameplay loops, I think now's the time to give ideas and feedback on what directions this should take. I've had a growing concern the last 2 years or so that the type of gameplay that CIG is moving towards won't hold up in the long run. We can have the most advanced game ever, but if the essential game loops consist of "fly to marker X, shoot or deliver something, fly to next marker" this game simply will not be enjoyable in the long run for most players.
Instead I think CIG should focus on what makes their game great, the sandbox experience! How many of us have jumped into the PTU only to spend hours experimenting with what ship fits in what, or how we can use different systems in unexpected ways?
So here's my open letter with ideas from a long time backer!

Quantum jumps

QT jumps should have the potential to be dangerous, and possibly even damage your ship, but once a jump is performed it leaves behind a trace that others can use to easier calculate a safe jump. The more people that use the same QT point, the safer it gets.
There should also be specific areas that can boost QT jumps in different ways (or make them more dangerous).

Bounty hunters

Since QT jumps leave traces, these could be scanned for ship ID codes, satellites could also help players pinpoint where a specific ship ID has been and how often they've been there. This would be used to find locations that the target is at often as if playing hot or cold. When in a "warm area" with lots of trace of the target, the hunter could then land and visit different locations and talk to NPCs for the last bit.

Exploration

Explorers could help out scanning for interesting locations in space, and good QT spots, but the most important part of this to make it fun for everyone would be procedural generation. Exploration simply won't be as fun if you can only find shipwrecks or prebuilt places.
So this is a big one, but the only true solution I see here would be procedurally generated systems. Random wormholes could show up that leads to random generated systems (these would of course not have the same fidelity as built ones, but wouldn't need cities or NPCs for the most parts).
When exploring such a system there could be a time limit until the wormhole closes again, or you could spend resources to stabilize it, you would also have to rely on crafting to actually survive in systems with potential dangers such as solar storms (that might force you to land in the safety of an atmosphere) or weather systems.

Pirates

With the more defined QT lanes, pirates would have an easier time finding common travel routes for merchants where they could get a location to sit and wait for victims. But the larger lanes would have more security, and the best merchants would use more secret lanes with QT boosts that pirates would also want to find.
Players would want to keep these secret as if more people know about these lanes, more merchants/pirates would flock there and its value would decrease.

Merchants

Much like pirates it would be a game of constantly finding new stable QT lanes that are safe and quick, the QT boosts could be temporary (lets say that an area gives a boost for maybe a week or so), and after they expire a new one would have to be found.

Mercenaries

The QT lanes would also help here, and scanning ships for ID codes that can be marked as stolen. Traveling these lanes and getting interdicted would also simply give them free targets to shoot down, and more danger for pirates hanging out at the same place.

Mechanics

Apply the same systems that ships are getting to landing zones, a mechanic could start working for a company in their distribution centers, fixing them after battles and restoring things that intruders have broken (like if an intruder has turned off the lights, or locked down a door). If you don't have markers and specific quests other than "fix the light", a good mechanic would have to have some knowledge about a certain locations systems, while a novice mechanic could do simpler tasks or work as an apprentice where someone says what to do (and gives markers to the player, a sort of "hey you! Go here and replace this thing so the lights start working").
A mechanic with lots of experience would get offered jobs at larger locations and eventually cities or maybe navy NPC ships in dry dock. They would also be able to do it alone without NPC assistance for more money.

Guilds and factions

The factions could sell some or all of the above data that their members hand in for rewards (another explorer loop) and the better the data, only the higher members would have access to it.

Radio stations

LOTS of streamers love SC, why not give them an in-game platform? (and something to do during QT for everyone else). Imagine the radio stations of GTA but live with people broadcasting things in game.
A gameplay loop would be to build broadcast towers in each system (on land you have to acquire) and maintaining them. We already have technology to send video streams during calls in game, why not let the reliant mako some purpose in game?
You could broadcast races, or just host a news show about the lore stuff.

Ship systems

These are in a really good state already, but try not to create a game loop with the systems you have, simply make them work together and see what players do with them.
If fire depends on oxygen and invaders jump onboard, let us increase the oxygen in one room for a fun explosion when they fire weapons for instance, or increase pressures to dangerous amounts for anyone without a helmet!

Animals

Some people have already lured animals onto their ships, so give us cages (simple boxes with doors we can open and close) and some form of lures like food?
These could be used simply to trap and keep creatures, or to drop the cages into enemy camps and remote unlock them! (could also be used to trap other players and NPCs?).

No-fly zones and anti pad rammers

Give us a max speed limit in some areas, this would help beginners that are landing as they have to take it slow, and pad ramming etc. would be harder as turrets could shoot down players a lot easier.
This could be done via mastermodes or some sort of "tractor beam field" thing that slows items in its area (would not exist at all stations).

Crashed ships

This is already being worked on, this is just a reminder of how great of a feature this would be, and that it should not be forgotten!
The idea that ships shot down in orbit crash to the surface and generate crash sites that in time can become dwellings is just incredible for sandbox type gameplay.
The idea is simply give us fun tools, that aren't 100% designed for only one profession or use case, but things that we can experiment with. A lot of these stated above have been described for only one profession, but like the mechanic role above, a good pirate would know how to turn off certain systems or hack into things to download maps and schematics that the mechanic also uses in day to day work (or maybe even simply kidnap a poor mechanic that already has insider info?).
And please move away from nav markers as much as possible!
Those are my thoughts, hope someone reads this and adds some ideas of their own!

1 Week in Peru (May 2024)
Trip Report in May: Lima, Cusco, Pisac, Machu Picchu
  • We went on May 12th 2024.
  • We don't speak Spanish but learned basic words to come by.
  • I suggest you get some Sol currency from your home country before arriving. We took 400 Sol with us.
  • I saw some posts suggesting BCP ATM to get cash, I would recommend against it. We used Cajero Banco de la Nacion ATM and we were not charged extra fees (although limit is 400 Sol).
  • You can use credit card in most restaurants in Lima, Cusco, Pisac an Machu Picchu.
Lima:
  • We bought SIM card in Lima airport from Peru SIM before leaving the free zone. Only passport required. 80 Sol for 5Gb/1week. I suggest you get more than 5G if you are going to browse the internet during your trip.
How to recharge Peru SIM:
  1. Install Mi Cuy App
  2. Choose "Peru SIM" from multiple choice question in the beginning.
  3. Use phone number to login and your passport number as password.
  4. Personally, none of my cards worked to recharge the SIM, I tried both Visa & Master Card).
  5. There is an option to recharge but texting a WhatsApp number were they send someone to you to recharge it but I didn't explore that option.
  • Stayed: 1.5 days (2 days ideal).
  • We used Uber in Lima with no issues.
  • We stayed in Miraflores, I would have stayed in Barranco but there were more options in Miraflores.
  • Explored: Miraflores, Barranco, Centro HistĆ³rico.
  • Before booking a restaurant check their opening hours. A lot of restaurants allow reservations half an before closing which can be frustrating.
  • Tips: Book restaurants in advance, locals dine around noon. Tried: Isolina (100 Sol/person, good vibe, food okay) and Al Toke Pez (30 Sol/person, not worth >30 min wait). Other recommended spots: Jose Antonio, Cerveceria Del Valle Sagrado, Don Fernando Restaurant, La Petite France, Central, La Mar, Maido, Osaka.
  • Bars: La Noche De Barranco, Juanito De Barranco.
  • Walk/Visit:
    • Miraflores: If the sky is clear, go to Parque Del Amor and walk on Mal. Cisneros.
    • Barranco: Walk on Av. Almte. Miguel towards Parroquia La Santisima Cruz, Bajada De BaƱos, Bridge of Sighs, C. La Ermita, Biblioteca Municipal, Museo Pedro De Osma.
    • Centro: St. Martin Square, Jiron de la Union, Lima Main Square, Basilica & Convent of San Francisco, Mercado Central & Chinatown, Larco Museum.
Cusco:
  • Stayed: 3 days (2 days for altitude acclimation).
  • We used Uber in Lima with no issues.
  • Some recommend you go directly from Cusco airport to Ollantaytambo (2 hours drive) to acclimate better to altitude, we didn't do that.
  • Regardless how many days you are planning to stay, if you are visiting museums in cusco or planning to visit Archaeological sites. Consider buying "Tourist tickets" in cash at some sites entrances or in Cusco from "Boleto TurĆ­stico Cusco" Av. El Sol 103, Cusco 08002 ,Peru), I added table below but for more or updated details check here
  • YOU CAN NOT get Tourist tickets from "COSITUC CENTRAL OFFICE" outside the Centro area. It's just management office.
CUSCO TOURIST TICKETS AS OF MAY 2024
  • To acclimate to the elevation, consider the following tips: drink coca tea, avoid alcohol, eat light meals, and rest for the first two days.
  • I took half a 25mg "Acetazolamide" pill from a pharmacy in Lima twice a day without consulting a doctor, but you should consult a doctor before doing so. Stay hydrated, and expect more frequent visits to the washroom due to the medication.
  • Stayed: Airbnb near San Blas Market (east part quieter).
  • Walk/Visit:
    • Explore San Blas Market square, walk east until the end of C. Carmen Alto, then walk up and take a right on C. Tandapata, then up on C. PasƱapakana to reach San Blas Viewpoint (great at sunset). LIMBUS RestoBar looks cool.
    • Explore the city center: Plaza Mayor de Cusco, Museo de Arte Religioso, Museo de Sitio Qorikancha, Plazoleta Espinar, Plaza Regocijo, San Pedro Market.
  • Best prices for souvenirs I found are on C. Hatunrumiyoc & open market in Plaza Regocijo.
  • Shopping: None of the shops have unique merchandise. Compare prices at multiple places, especially shops outside busy zones and away from the Marriott.
  • I doubt that any pure Alpaca wool is sold in these shops, so price items based on their quality and softness unless you are certain it's pure Alpaca.
For food spots, I recommend:
  • Pachapapa for dinner (better call and reserve if you're arriving after 7 PM).
  • Sepia Cusco for a nice lunch (they have a great courtyard).
  • Qura for breakfast or lunch.
  • I heard Pizza is very good in Cusco, so you should try it.
  • I liked Alpaca meat more than Cuy.
Pisac trip:
  • To enter Pisac Archaeological site you need to buy a Tourist ticket circuit 3 which cost 70 Sol/Person. You can buy it in cash at the site entrance or in Cusco from "Boleto TurĆ­stico Cusco" at Av. El Sol 103, Cusco 08002 ,Peru more details here here
  • We only visited Pisac from towns around Cusco to hike down from the Archaeological site, which takes about 2 hours. Our trip was short, and we wanted to focus on this hike.
  • If I had another day, I would have also done the Rainbow Mountain hike. For Rainbow Mountain, consider staying in Tinki the night before to start the hike early, as it gets cloudy later. Tinki is 2.5 hours from Cusco.
  • Most agencies offer group trips for around $50 USD/person and private trips for $120/person. We didn't want to visit multiple towns, so we hired an Uber driver (outside Uber) with a good car for 200 Sol for the whole trip (Cusco-Pisac and back), which was cheaper than any agency. We left at 7:30 am and returned by 2 pm. We took food and water to avoid stops on the way to Pisac except for view points of the sacred valley.
  • A cheaper alternative is taking a public colectivo from 28 Puputi St in Cusco to Pisac, then a taxi from Pisac town to the top of the Archaeological site (25 Sol one way). Some posts said taking Collective can be dangerous so avoid this if you are not an experienced traveler.
  • The hike itself is great. Although the car takes you to the top, you still need to climb for about 15 minutes before heading down. The altitude can be challenging, so take your time.
Machu Picchu
Booking Machu Picchu site tickets
  • Which ticket to buy for Machu Picchu? If you just want to visit the site choose " Circuit 1,2 + Inca bridge" or "Circuit 1,2".
  • Circuit 1 is half circuit 2. Take circuit 2 unless you physically can't take around 50 stairs.
  • You have to provide passport number when you book the ticket. They will check your passport when you arrive at the site.
  • We bought Circuit 1,2 + Inca bridge ticket two months before the trip. You can try to book it directly from the government website Gov website but we couldn't find available tickets "Cerrado" there so we bought it from the Joinn us site which worked the same for the same price
  • Don't believe posts that say Joinn Us is a scam. They say that because they have not received the tickets in the email. This is because tickets are not sent to you by email. It would be available on the site on side menu under "tickets" or "Mis entradas". You can download the tickets from Joinnus site.
  • If you are not able to buy Machu Picchu tickets online, you have to be in Agaus Calientes the morning before your visit to buy the tickets.
  • You don't need to print your tickets.
Booking a ride to Machu Picchu:
To arrive to Machu Picchu from Cusco you need to:
  1. Take a bus from Cusco to the train station as no trains leave from Cusco center (Except one, see below).
  2. Take train a to Aguas Calientes.
  3. Take a Bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu site OR hike up dusty mountain road for 2 hours swarmed by buses with no much room.
Steps 1 & 2 are included in train tickets from Peru Rail or Inca Rail. A few things to note:
  • The main difference between Inca Rail and Peru Rail is step 1. Inca Rail provides a bus ride from Cusco to Ollantaytambo (2 hours + traffic), then a train to Aguas Calientes (1h 40min). They ensure you reach Aguas Calientes, so no need to worry about connections.
IncaRail
  • Peru Rail offers a bus ride from Cusco to Poroy station (30 min) and then a train to Machu Picchu or from San Pedro (5 min) in Cusco center.
PeruRail
  • We chose Inca Rail's "The Voyager Bimodal - light" option, which includes a bus ride from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and then a train to Aguas Calientes in the lowest-cost cabin. The 2-hour bus ride was pleasant, and the cabin quality was good. Paying extra for the 1h 40min train ride isnā€™t necessary. If I had known about Peru Rail's San Pedro departure, I would have chosen that.
  • Arrive at the station half an hour before boarding. Our Inca Rail bus left early to beat traffic as everyone was present.
For Step 3: Bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
  • Only one bus service runs frequently, about every 5 minutes.
  • Tickets can be bought in person, where you'll need to stand in line, or online at Consettur.
  • We bought tickets online to avoid lines, which weren't bad during our visit on May 16th.
  • The round trip costs $24. I donā€™t recommend hiking up the mountain.
Note: According to EyeWitness: Peru travel book, thereā€™s a cheaper way to get to Machu Picchu if you're on a strict budget. You can take a bus from Cusco to the Hydroelectric station and walk for 3 hours beside the railway tracks to Machu Picchu.
What time is best to visit Machu Picchu
  • If you are doing circuit 2 (which you should as it's the longest hike in Machu Picchu) Temple of the Sun is only open between 1PM-4PM. Temple of the Condor 10am-1PM, Pyramid del Intiwatana 7am -10am.
  • We didn't have a preference, but because we left Cusco at 8:30 am, we arrived Machu Picchu at 1PM. We took the 2PM time slot as we wanted to leave the next morning. No regrets.
  • We didn't hire a guide (you don't need to hire a guide regardless of what other posts say). There are three things you need to know: 1) Follow signs for Circuito 2. 2) Make sure you donā€™t take the ā€œplatforma inferiorā€ turning that happens 250m into the walk. Take "Platforma Superior". 3) If you bought the Inca Bridge ticket, know where to turn to see it. I found this travel blog helpful blog.
  • I used google to read about the different sites.
Aguas Calientes
  • We stayed at Gringo Bill's Hotel. It was decent, but Iā€™d avoid hotels on the main streets due to noise. I didnā€™t like Aguas Calientes much (we stayed one night). If I had more time, I would have planned a same-day return trip to Ollantaytambo.
  • Some posts mention the hot springs in Aguas Calientes, "BaƱos Termales (Machu Picchu)." It's more like a public bath and not really worth it, but the hike there is nice.
  • Be cautious with food in Aguas. Many highly-rated restaurants are actually bad. I met a cook who worked there and got the inside scoop. Stick to safe foodā€”avoid raw food and fish, and ask for well-cooked meat, especially burgers. Check the lowest and most recent reviews on Google.
  • We ate at Ponchos, and it tasted good without making us sick. However, we had pizza at Pueblo Viejo, and Iā€™ve had better frozen pizza.
After Aguas Calientes, we took the train and bus back to Cusco, then flew to Lima the same day. Flights from Cusco to Lima are often delayed, so check your flight history if you're on a tight schedule. We left for Lima Airport on a Sunday morning, and the roads leading to the highway were blocked, taking an extra hour to reach the airport.
Overall, it was an amazing trip. Next time, I would stay for two weeks and follow the EyeWitness: Peru travel book's two-week itinerary. I would also definitely do the Salkantay hike.
