2024.05.19 12:37 Trust_Foreign Change parameters of mri sequences

Hi everyone, I would like to ask you resonance technicians if, in the structures where you work, how much and if you have freedom of interaction on the sequence parameters. In the structure where I work, for example, I have total freedom in choosing the parameters of the sequences, both during the exam and when I deem it necessary to make changes to the protocols themselves. It would also be interesting to know which points you focus on when creating or editing a sequence. Thanks for your attention

2024.05.19 12:29 aoifemma Surgery in June with a holiday booked for August- too soon?

Hi everyone!
I’ve been having worsening pain in my hips since about 2019 due to bilateral labrum tears due to hEDS, started physio in 2019 which barely helped, MRI confirmed tears in 2021 but the first orthopaedic surgeon I saw in 2022 was so dismissive and basically said I’m too young so he doesn’t believe the tears are causing my pain (?). Been passed around different specialists since then, had one injection that helped briefly, and then I moved across the country. I have been referred to a hip orthopaedic specialised in my new area but I’m in the UK and the current NHS waiting time is about 40 weeks for the initial consultation.
My fiancé’s parents have very generously said they will pay for me to get my worse hip done privately while I’m on the NHS waiting list for the less bad side.
My dilemma is the earliest I could get it done is late June, but I have a holiday booked for the end of August. That would be about 9 weeks out. Obviously I’ll ask the surgeon if he thinks waiting until September is better, but I also wanted to get the opinions of people that have actually had the surgery! It will be a 3 hour flight.
Thank you!

2024.05.19 12:25 ATOMIC_PoohBrain My experience

Hello. I would like to tell you my experience about having a brain tumor. More specifically a pilocytic astrocytoma and hydrocephalus. So how I found out was I went to work as usual. I would also like to say I have been having headaches for quite some time and have gone to the doctors. All they did was give me a shot of something in the butt which helped a lot and I thought that was the end of it. So I was at work when I started to feel really sick. I then realized I was going to throw up so I started to go to the bathroom. When I was walking to the bathroom I could not remember where it was and ended up in management office. I then threw up all over the floor and sat down for about twenty minutes. It was almost as if I was completely drunk at this point. I finally got up and started to walk to my car. When I made it my car I started it and went home. When I got home I couldn’t remember how to put my car into park. So I hit my garage before my dad came out of the house and told me what to do. I then put my car in park, got out of the car and went inside. My parents thought I was on drugs or something because I then went into the garage and was looking for something. My dad was in the garage with me and so was my mom. I had also thrown up on my dad which made him upset so he left me there. My mom told my dad I probably needed to take a nap. My dad said that we should probably go to the emergency room. When we made it to the emergency room I started to have some anger issues which the nurse asked if I have always had these problems, and my mom said I did not. Apparently I was very rude to the nurses and what not, which makes me very upset at myself. While at the emergency room I peed into a trash can because I was so out of it. I even lifted the lid and thought I was actually in the bathroom. After that I was taken to another hospital that is about an hour and thirty minutes away. I was taken by ambulance even though it was about 1:30 in the morning. All while my parents were following me. After that I was scanned and had to have emergency surgery where they put tubes in my head to drain the excess brain fluid. I then was laying in the hospital room for two days while they were draining the excess fluid. The only thing I remember from this was talking on the phone with my grandma and grandpa. I had to have a shunt put in my brain to continue to drain the fluid in my head because the tumor is blocking my normal drainage path. When I finally went home I was feeling fine but my parents decided that I should go to UCLA and get a second opinion. We set up an appointment at UCLA a few months after the emergency room visit. When they said I had to get the tumor removed I cannot remember what I was thinking. Also I would like to say this was all at the start of covid so it was very difficult. I went into the surgery and it went well but they couldn’t remove all of the tumor. I had forgotten everything about my life except who my family was and I kept saying zoinks from scooby doo. I had to stay in the hospital for about two or three weeks after the craniotomy. While I was there the nurses had to teach me how to walk again. Afterwards I had to go to rehab which was kinda nice. Of course I don't remember the drive to rehab but I remember almost every time I talked to my mom I said do you know I'm at a rehab facility and she would say yeah because of your drug and alcohol addiction. I knew that was not the reason because I had a huge scab on my head and half my head was shaved. Rehab was very difficult but I finished my time there after three weeks. When I went home I was super excited to see everyone and my dog. I then had to do more therapy because my short term memory was destroyed and I couldn’t remember the last five years of my life. It was so bad that you could tell me something, ask me to remember it and ask me what you had told me to remember and I would not be able to. I remember after one therapy session my mom asked me what she told me at the end of it and I could not remember and started crying. After about two months of therapy I had finished physical therapy, but I still had to do occupational and speech. I did the therapies for probably about half a year before I got my next MRI. During this time it was decided that when I could get a tattoo everyone of my immediate family would get a brain that said I forgot below it. When we were talking to the doctor it was November and he said that the brain tumor had grown. He said I would either have to do radiation or chemotherapy. So about a month later they decided on radiation therapy. Which wasn't good news but I thought it was better than chemo. So it is now December 2020. I have been in therapy for about half the year. I told the therapist that I will be going into radiation. So I had to stop going to therapy and went to Santa Monica for my radiation treatment. I started radiation in January 2021. I really liked the people who did my radiation. They were very nice. I also had one of the nurses from UCLA come and see me one day of my radiation. Sadly I did not remember them. So radiation was not bad but not great. It made the expression dead tired so very true. I would also like to mention that my parents had gotten an apartment for us a few miles away. So I would have to walk to and from the radiation treatments every day. It was really hard but I'm glad that I did it. I also had some delicious food while down in Santa Monica. The radiation nurses also gave me a little cake because it was my birthday while I was doing radiation. On the last day of radiation I gave everyone something I cannot remember what it was that I gave them. I hope that they liked it. I also remember that I got to ring a bell on my last day but I thought that I didn’t deserve it unlike the people who did chemo. When we went home I had to continue doing speech therapy. I kept doing speech therapy till 2022. I did not get told that I did not need to keep going to speech therapy. I ran out of days that my insurance would pay for it which sucked. I remember at one point when my mom was working from home she was getting annoyed at the insurance representative. I would also like to say that they had made it very difficult to get approved for therapy multiple times. I had also developed a twitch or jerk that I could almost feel coming which I had since after the craniotomy. Skip to 2023 I had been taking some pills because they thought I was having seizures. I had to set up a week in the hospital with some stuff attached to my head to try and catch one. It was not the best and they did not catch one. I would also like to say that my head was so itchy. So they decided to try again at a later date but I would be able to be at home. So I went to get the wires and machine on my head and meet a very nice nurse who braided the wires together to make it easier for me. After a week with it on I went back to UCLA and got it taken off and they found that I was having seizures. I would like to say that none of what I went through was easy but it could have been worse. I am very thankful and happy that I had my family and friends with me through all this. I would also like to say that it gets better. I have my next MRI next month and hopefully it will be a year apart so I can get my tattoo.

2024.05.19 12:24 joeunr Mini-ITX Re-Build not Turning on

Mini-ITX Re-Build not Turning on
I have a PC with these parts:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor MotherBoard: MAG B550 TOMAHAWK Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2666 CL16 Memory Storage: Samsung 970 evo m2 Video Card: Asus Phoenix GeForce RTX 3060 V2 GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 12 GB Video Card Case: Sharkoon Pure Steel Power Supply: Gigabyte P650B
This PC worked fine for about 2 years.
I now wanted to move these Parts into a mini-ITX and use it as a server. I bought the following components:
Motherboard: ASRock B550M-ITX/ac Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard Case: HYTE REVOLT 3 Mini ITX Tower Case Power Supply: be quiet! SFX L Power 500 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
According to PCPartPicker everything is "Compatible”, but I cannot get it to work. When switching on, the CPU cooler does one spin on the first try. After that nothing happens.
What I have tried so far:
  • Removing the mainboard from the case -> X
  • Removing each part from the mainboard separately. -> X
  • Running the original P650B PSU -> X
  • Clearing CMOS -> X
  • Putting all parts back into the OLD setup -> Works
    • Using the new SFX L Power 500 W -> X
    • Using the Gigabyte P650B *again* -> Seems to have fried the board (poof + smell). See photo.
      • Assumption: The SFX L PSU bricked both mainboards
  • Replacing BOTH the “ASRock B550M-ITX/ac” and the “be quiet! SFX L Power 500 W” with new identical parts -> X
    • Back to square one
  • Paperclip test says PSU is fine
Noteworthy: The PSU only starts spinning when the Mainboard 24 pin is connected, but the CPU 8pin is NOT connected.
Since all the other parts worked fine, the only valid assumption is that the mainboard is broken. But how likely is it, that the mainboard is broken twice? Since the mainboard is kind of old by now, I thought that maybe the CMOS battery is empty. But this would result in different symptoms.
I have build my own PCs multiple times without any problems, but somehow I am out of ideas here. Anyone any thoughts on what else I could try.

2024.05.19 12:23 skipster88 What diagnostic tests confirmed PsA…?

(35 M) ’ve been under rheumatology for maybe 3 months now and had 2 appointments - first time the consultant looked at my nails, fingers, toes and did a full assessment including history and the pics on my phone of flare ups of the skin and inflammation issues and said she was basically sure I did have PsA. I had 7 vials of blood taken, an ultrasound of one of my hands (weirdly I think it was the one that’s not as bad) and an mri of my spine.
Second time I saw a registrar doctor (a couple below a consultant) and she said that none of my tests really showed anything and asked me about my prescribed meds and drug use history. I said I did take recreational drugs as a student years ago but not recently, and told her I was on Vyvanse and Dihydrocodeine for adhd and pain respectively - and she seemed to imply that it might be something to do with blood flow from vyvanse (i did show her a picture of when o had reynauds on my good foot and I know that can be a side effect).
The second doctor sent me for more X-rays on hands and another 7 vials of blood tests and asked for a drugs of abuse urine screen as well as another urine test - saying what was wrong is still a bit of a “mystery”. Since then I’ve noticed my bad foot with the sausage toe has got serious toe separation and I’ve been to the gp who said it was arthritis and I need referral to somewhere for that too!
The toe separation and awful pain in my sternum and back are obviously not due to circulation from vyvanse or any non-existent drug abuse. I have had historic injuries to my toe and back but I still feel like having all of these things coinciding at once (dodgy nails, foot pain, red flaky patches on head face and chest, swollen ends of fingers, fatigue) which comes and goes and is worst in the morning must have an overall single explanation.
What tests confirmed diagnosis for you…?

——————————
Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”
Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report
Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
——————————
Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
“The last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of life….There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Colombia….disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migration….Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern era…overconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the world….the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022…” -excerpts from the introduction
Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in England’s Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in raw sewage being pumped into England’s largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago River’s health found that microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.

An assassination attempt by a lone wolf on Slovakia’s PM left him in critical condition, but likely to survive. 11 civilians were slain by cartel fighters in a few battles in Mexico. Violence continues to spiral out of control in Goma, DRC.
In Haiti, everything worsens indefinitely. Guns have reportedly entered from Florida, a phenomenon which officials call an “iron river.” Police have been put on the defensive against the growing might of the gang warlords.
A brawl broke out in Taiwan’s parliament. An Iranian plot was allegedly foiled to smuggle weapons into Jordan to destabilize the pro-U.S. regime.
Dozens more died in Sudan from escalating violence around Darfur. People are warning about “a disaster on top of a disaster” and the possibility of Sudan splitting apart. Others have called it “hell on earth” as 1,000+ refugees cross the Chad border every day. Disease and malnutrition are growing, while famine encroaches upon 9M helpless victims of the conflict—but the world’s attention is elsewhere.
The U.S. Army Engineers completed constructing the pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. Some 600,000 Gazans have been displaced from Rafah already, and fighting has escalated against Hamas militants in northern Gaza.
Taliban forces skirmished with Pakistani soldiers for about 90 minutes last week. Taliban attacks in Pakistan, and counterattacks have resulted in a kind of ambient disruption for the rocky border zone.
Violent protests—and counteroperationsare continuing in New Caledonia (pop: 270,000), a Pacific island part of overseas France. The riots, which have killed 6 people so far, began after metropolitan France proposed a plan to expand voting rights beyond indigenous residents. A state of emergency has been declared amid worries about a spiral of violence taking hold.
As the Sahel dries out, experts are concerned about the links to rising terrorism in the region. The Sahel accounts for over 40% of global terrorism deaths—according to the analysts’ understanding of “terrorism.” Mali in particular has reportedly become home to 41 new, different non-state armed groups (NSAGs) since 2007. A contested election in Chad resulted in the consolidation of the interim leader’s power.
“If governments are continually unable to solve regional issues, the people will be at the whim of any terror group that has a basic organization. It serves these groups’ interests to promote insecurity where they can and create security where they want. A “hearts and minds” campaign in the Sahel could lead to long-term and locally supported insurgencies in a land that is currently rife with civil strife.” -from the article
Some wargamers concluded that a Trump victory in 2020 would spell the end of NATO, or at least the end of its utility. Vladimir Putin replaced his minister of defense with a top economic advisor, just before going to Beijing to reaffirm their friendship with “no limits.” Some say Putin is planning on a forever war. Some say NATO is gearing up for one, too.
Russia made several gains in the suburbs of Kharkiv, seizing several settlements which some analysts doubt they will hold. Putin claims they aren’t really trying to take Kharkiv anyway… Russia also made small progress in the Donbas—although they suffered their largest one-day casualties since the start of the war. The U.S. allocated another $2B to hasten the delivery of weapons to the front lines. The next weeks will be crucial on the front. Switzerland has invited 160+ nations to send delegates to a peace summit intended to design a path to making peace in this War.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-Brazil’s flooding was really, really bad, judging from this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazil’s 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless, 100+ have died, and the storm season isn’t over yet. Some of the flooding isn’t expected to subside for another month.
-How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct? This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.

2024.05.19 12:07 Lababila Thoracic Spine Pain and lightheartedness

I have this weird symptom:
Does anyone know what this might be? I was thinking pectus excavatum but not sure since i dont have any noticeable deformity.
A chiropractor once adjusted my thoracic in that area and i felt free and could breath better, wet eyes, no dizziness etc

2024.05.19 12:06 ajmacbeth Is it worth the effort to apply for an increase in rating for back injury?

I have a 10% rating for my back. My back is very temper-mental in that I can go through periods of little to no pain, as long as I'm very careful and practice safe core strength training. During these periods I can do most things a man is expected to do around the house: move boxes up and down the stairs, help move a piece of furniture, mow the lawn, etc. I also have episodes of excruciating injury if I happen to do even the simplest of tasks without care; i.e. I once quickly bent over to pick up a dropped glove which resulted in complete immobility for a week and zero exercise for 6-months. Such episodes usually occur once every year or two. After the last episode, the VA did an MRI and confirmed herniated disk and degenerative disk disease. I'm not willing to lie or pretend I can't bend over just for a rating.
I guess what I'm asking is, what are the criteria for higher than 10% rating for back injury?

2024.05.19 11:49 Krispious Dretine, Yasmin and similar.

Hi all,
Sorry for the long post.
I'm trying to figure out whether it's my body or something is wrong with the alternative combined pill.
I was happily taking Yasmin for years. The skin has cleared and there was no weight gain or water retention issues. Until I moved to a new GP and the new GP was reluctant to prescribe Yasmin. I was back on Rigevidon, but it was not agreeing with me as well as Yasmin was. I have decided to use move to alternative methods of contraception. Then, there was a pregnancy, and after the pregnancy, I decided to try an IUD. It felt uncomfortable, and the constant spotting didn't go away, so I was off it.
There was no follow-up from the GP. I carried on taking Dretine. The following month (March), around the same time, I had a lighter version of the episode, but it subsided after rest. Nothing next month. Then, in May, I had an episode again. I do not remember why, but I thought that it might be related to the pill. The events were reoccurring around pills 14-16.
I have been on Depo for two years, followed by Sayana Press for less than a year. I gained a lot of weight in the process, and I feel tired and angry all the time as all I want to do is sleep. Now I know about the risk of osteoporosis, and I would like to move from this contraceptive.
I felt great about Yasmin, and I would like to restart it, but what are my chances of getting this migraine with aura again? Was it just unlucky with the batch of Dretine made by Theramex?
Thank you for your comments in advance.

2024.05.19 11:46 PEPSIPANDORALUNA BOTCHED FILLERS & HYALURONIDASE DAMAGE

It has taken me more than 8 years to finally feel comfortable and confident to post a review about Gavin Chan. In 2015 I went to the Victorian Cosmetic Institute & was talked into having 4mls of filler injected into my cheeks & nasolabial folds to lift my cheeks by self appointed “cosmetic medicine specialist” Dr Somaiye Kadivar. I was told that the filler was temporary & would last anywhere between 12-18 months.
Once the procedure was over I looked in the mirror & noticed one cheek was higher while the other cheek was lower & further out from my nose. My nasolabial folds were arched, crooked, unnatural & everytime I smiled my cheeks would pop out like golf balls. I hated the results because the filler added volume instead of a lift like I was led to believe.
Just the thought of what I would have looked like if I had gone ahead with the 12 month "alternative treatment plan" devised by the “cosmetic medicine specialist" Dr Somaiye Kadivar who recommended 12mls of filler costing me over $9,000 and 60 units of Botox every 3 months for $720 per treatment gives me nightmares.
Soon after I contacted the owner of the Victorian Cosmetic Institute Gavin Chan and complained about the botched filler. He assured me it was easily & instantly reversible by injecting Hyaluronidase which is used off label to dissolve fillers. After several attempts over the coming days & weeks it was quite obvious that the filler was still present.
On one occasion Gavin Chan dissolved my tear troughs via the cheeks yet I never had filler in my tear troughs to begin with. On another occasion while injecting Hyaluronidase he also started to inject filler into my temple without prior warning. When I asked him why he was injecting my temple he told me he was compensating me for my troubles yet never mentioned that the temple is a danger zone & a risky area to inject.
In total I had 6mls of filler injected into my face within 19 days, yet on the Victorian Cosmetic Institute's website it states that 1ml of filler is enough for the entire face. On each occasion Gavin Chan never informed me of the risks, dangers & complications associated with Hyaluronidase & never gave me a consent form to read and sign.
A few years later I had a consultation with Professor Mark Ashton who is an expert in filler complications & he told me that if the filler hadn't dissolved by now then it was permanent. He gave me a referral for an MRI of the head which detects the exact amount of filler & the exact location of the filler. The MRI report stated that I still had upto 4mls of filler in my face even after all the dissolving sessions from many years ago.
On Dec 3rd 2018 I showed Gavin Chan my MRI results who had no idea at the time that MRI scans can detect fillers. His recommendation was more dissolving but in a larger dose so he flooded my face with Hyaluronidase yet never recorded the amount in my clinical notes. When I went back for a follow up consultation on Dec 10th 2018 he contacted radiologist Mobin Master in my presence who also appeared not to be aware at the time that MRI’s can detect filler but suggested I get another MRI anyway.
Not long after, Gavin Chan contacted me via email thanking me for bringing the MRI information to his attention instead of thanking Professor Mark Ashton who he had previously corresponded with via email regarding my MRI results. For some unknown reason it did not occur to Gavin Chan that Professor Mark Ashton deserved all the credit for having known all along that MRI’s can detect dermal filler.
Instead Gavin Chan chose to capitalise on this information by making a YouTube video claiming he had made this discovery after doing quite a few MRI's (not sure how this is possible as he is not a radiologist). He also stated in his email that he wanted to inject a very high dose of Hyaluronidase to try and dissolve the filler again for the 5th time.
In the meantime I noticed that my facial structure had collapsed, I developed deep hollows under my eyes, my cheeks caved in, my marionette lines were deep, long & dragged down. The corners of my lips sunk into my mouth & my skin was extremely loose, saggy & stretchy all the way down to my neck.
Hyaluronidase did not dissolve my fillers but instead permanently dissolved my connective tissue as it can't distinguish between the skin's own HA & the HA in dermal fillers. Hyaluronidase has aged my facial features by 10 years & only a full facelift & necklift can fix this.
In 2019 & 2020 I took Gavin Chan to VCAT, a small claims court requesting a refund & a corrective advertising order because his website falsely advertised that the temporary fillers they use last anywhere between 12-18 months. Gavin Chan was granted lawyers on the grounds that his business reputation was at stake while I had to represent myself.
I cross examined him with over 90 questions & I presented over 100 pages of supporting evidence & documentation while he only had photos & amended clinical notes. Mobin Master was also present in court supporting Gavin Chan. The hearing was held over 2 days & my claims were eventually dismissed by the judge.
Gavin Chan who “specialises” in cosmetic procedures got away with not providing a patch test for Hyaluronidase and not providing a consent form for Hyaluronidase on each occasion amongst other things.
Mobin Master who began posting the first MRI images on his Instagram account 1 week after the first VCAT hearing in Nov 2019 now identifies as an “aesthetic radiologist” and a “world pioneer” in filler longevity.
Gavin Chan, the self appointed “doctor trainer” for various dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections and “cosmetic surgeon” as he once claimed to be isn’t even a GP, he is just a medical practitioner with no other formal training. His only qualification is a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery with a “background in intensive care, anaesthesia and emergency medicine.
Gavin Chan who medically reviews his own articles has provided cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, liposuction, facial fat transfers, skin needling and laser treatments since 2004 and has held advanced one-on-one injector training workshops for dermal fillers yet has no certificates or credentials listed on his Victorian Cosmetic Institute’s website.
In my opinion Gavin Chan has a special interest in portraying himself as the master of cosmetic injectables in an unregulated industry. He is an injectable junkie, obsessed with the syringe & makes no apologies for ruining my life. I hold Gavin Chan responsible for destroying my looks and my life.
In late 2023 I was threatened on 2 occasions with legal action for posting Google reviews on Gavin Chan. His lawyers instructed me to remove each review within 7 days otherwise I would be sued for defamation in the Federal Court of Australia. I wasn't even given a chance to respond to each email when my reviews were both taken down.
I have no doubt in my mind that Gavin Chan was behind the removal of my reviews. In my opinion, Gavin Chan pays a lot of money to have my reviews removed as he doesn't want anyone finding out about me and the truth about him.
I challenge Gavin Chan to explain to the general public, his patients and to his social media followers what he actually means by "background in intensive care, anaesthesia, and emergency medicine" as well as publicly display all his credentials on social media (qualifications, certificates and training) in anaesthesia, liposuction & cosmetic procedures such as cosmetic iniectables & laser treatments.
Update: In early 2024 I received further threats from Gavin Chan's lawyers for posting this Reddit review and a RealSelf review regarding my personal experience and results. “Articles medically reviewed by Dr Gavin Chan" & " Dr Gavin Chan has a background in intensive care, anaesthesia, and emergency medicine" have since been quietly removed from the Victorian Cosmetic Institute website.

2024.05.19 11:36 Dear_Finish1324 Tron mcl + MRI

2 weeks ago I’ve had an trampoline accident. Recently the doctor find out I probably have a torn MCL. To make sure if nothing else is injured, I have to get an MRI scan. My MRI is scheduled in 1,5 month so I have to wait a long time..
My knee is very weak so I can’t stand on it. I find myself spending a lot of time on my phone, since I can’t do much. I’m also dependent on others if I wan’t to go somewhere. So I wanna pick up some new activities/hobby’s in the meantime. Does anyone have any ideas?

2024.05.19 11:14 Electronic-Work9844 My tita's doesn't want to support their mother's medical expenses

I need to rant. I am furious right now. My dad have 2 sisters and 1 brother and my dad was the bunso. Growing up yung nanay nila which is lola ko pinagbubuhatan sila ng kamay let's say abusive lola ko but not until magka isip na sila, natigil din naman yun at nakabawi na ang lola ko sa kanila. But they still hold grudges on her. Nuon di nila pinupuntahan sa bahay nya kahit nasa same city lang sila. Pag may gathering di nila iinvite lola ko para di pumunta. My lola lives alone and she's 78 years old now. She was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and she goes to a different city just to get a free chemotherapy kasi nga ayaw sya gastusan ng mga anak nya. Wala syang work and I don't know how she was able to survive without financial support from her daughters.

2024.05.19 11:03 PomegranateLast8151 Feeling hopeful, so I want to share my experience.

I overwhelmed with happiness, and so I thought I’d share my story, and in hope I can help at least one person. To start, I have four bulge disc. L1-L2, L3-L4(10mm bulge), L4-L5, and L5-S1. Short back ground, I’ve been dealing with bulge disc since 2018, started when I went to a chiropractor, and the next day and had to go to the hospital. Meaning, I was carried by seven firefighters down a flight of stairs while I was crying my face off because I could not walk and was in so much pain.
This year two more disc gave out over a stupid sport accident. Believe it or not curling, my hip gave out. And well it pissed my back off.
Okay rehab. I did 5 massages, three physio, three acupuncture. Was not helping. At least my physio called it big time and the MRI confirmed it.
In 2021 I started disc decompression, it helped a lot but the chiropractor was charging a lot. So in 2024 I was hesitant, but I found another place that charged less because I understand you have to go for at least 12 or more to make an impact on the disc. Well I finished my 12 and have three more to go. Yes I do believe it is helping.
What I have learned this year is about 5% dextrose given I natural Path doctors. Possibly MD as well but I’m seeing a NP.
I received it today and within 4 hours my pain in the inside and outside went away. In Canada it seem impossible to find a doctor that does Interdisc PRP. Im so happy I went for the epidural, just to have very little pain at this moment is a small victory. I’m hoping with creating a healthy environment via the disc decompression, and introducing the 5% dextrose, and of course will go for a few more, then add prp to my post exterior muscle will save me.
FYI I went to the surgeon in 2021 when I had drop foot and the doctor did not want to operate, so I’ve had to make pain management a huge part of my life.
I’m not a doctor, I just want to share because, no one will say do everything to get better, they may just believe in what they are pushing.
I’m hoping that if I can help just one person I’m happy. Because I’ve been in pain for three past 14 weeks, and I’m finally able to feel like I’ve make progress.

2024.05.19 10:33 Excellent-Welcome408 New diagnosis 😞 Refreshing yet alarming

I was recently diagnosed with IR after self referring to an endocrinologist. It’s nice to finally figure out what’s going on with me but still scary and concerning! How have you all dealt with your diagnosis?
About me: I’m prior military and continue a work out habit of 4-5x/week weight training and cardio. I’ve never met BMI in my adult life but otherwise have been generally healthy with a low to avg BP, great cholesterol levels, no thyroid issues etc.
However over the last 2 years my weight has just continued to creep. My A1C has been trending up but I’m still in the “normal” range 0.1 from being diabetic. I’ve dealt with debilitating fatigue and just recently a MRI revealed an enlarged liver with liver enzymes elevation to match. My PCP blew me off telling me to stop drinking (which I don’t 😒). So I self referred…
I always thought I might’ve had PCOS but just managed my adult acne and hirutism with laser hair removal. But i never had the other symptoms. Now my endo has prescribed ozempic/wegovy and I’m on week 1 of usage. I’m less concerned about the weight loss and more concerned about the internal health factors that it can remedy.
I also want to explore some hollistic methods as well for long term intervention.
It just feels crazy to do “everything right” and still have these problems.

2024.05.19 10:31 amanakoyumiui Myocarditis and long-COVID? Palpitations and arrhythmia

Hey all, I (25M) had COVID in december 23, and probably again in February 24, in total I had it 5 or 6 times, first time for 3/4 weeks in April 2022, then mostly milder in the acute phase.
In February 24 I thought I was fit again after a week, so I went to the gym, but there I felt really bad and ended it, at home I got a fever and felt really bad in general. The next 4 weeks I was having some coughs, some nasal congestion, but all the time tachycardia, my RHR was at 90, instead of about 60. And I was much more exhausted. And my BP was always really high 180/110 from then on. (Right now I am on betablockers and losartan (ARB))
cMRI 15.3.24 LVEF40-50% slightly reduced And some LGE in the myocard indicating myocarditis but no active edema or inflammation
From the beginning of April I was feeling much worse, I could not stand working anymore, getting dizzy upon walking and I started having a lot of palpitations. (Premature atrial contractions, PACs, about 10%)
These days, I am having these palpitations, mostly PACs, sometimes in trigeminy, sometimes only one per minute or even less. Fatigue and upon walking sometimes severe dizziness/ brain fog and SOB. In my back I always have a pain which sometimes flares out to my left shoulder and sometimes also chest pain, but that it he only thing that had a peak and then pretty much got better. My heart rate upon sitting varies between 50 and 80. My oxygen saturation is basically always at 95%. Before it was basically always at 99%.
Do some of you have these symptoms or similar symtpoms and recovered or gotten better at least?

2024.05.19 10:13 Organic_List7745 Getting severe headaches from time to time.

I'm 28M getting those headaches on average once every few weeks. Its pulsating strong pain, ether on left or right side of my head. Tried visiting doctors to figure out why it's happening, but nobody really knows why. I had a benign tumour on the auditory nerve on left side, that got removed, not sure if this could be the cause. Am doing MRI every year, to check if its not getting any worse after gamma knife surgery.

2024.05.19 10:08 HalemoGPA Novice to kaggle but not novice in the field

I am studying machine learning for a while, but neither published any notebook on Kaggle nor participated in competition. Yesterday, I published my first notebook on Kaggle. It is brain tumor classification using MRI scan images. I got over 99.3% test accuracy, but I don't know if there is any more enhancement.
Any Kaggle expert here to check out my notebook?
Here is it the link : Brain Tumor Classification PyTorch 99.3% Test
I forgot to mention that I only participated once in private Kaggle competition, coordinated by a team in the college. I was lucky and got the 1st place. I discovered later, I wasn't lucky because it is private and no one can see it. LOL
BTW The competition was about heartDisease classification based on csv file of some features. The evaluation metric was logloss, I got 0.225, and the 2nd place got 2.8. There were 5 teams.

2024.05.19 10:07 Closerthanyouthink-1 Nerve pain after fusion

Fusion L4/L5 in January. Since after three months I have been suffering from nerve pain down my leg to the big toe that manifests as pinching, stinging and heat that starts from the back. I checked with the DR who did CT , MRI, and X-Ray and all looks good, he ordered an EMG to see what’s going on with the nerves. Any one experienced that? And how did you handle it?

2024.05.19 09:52 ImportantAd9028 Cyst size

I had an MRI and two cysts were found. One 13mm probable bartholin and 5mm paraurethral cyst. Are these enough to cause pain?
I have had major urethral/vaginal pain/retention since last year. Sex is painful. I am on 50mg amitriptyline and it was helping but the pain is coming through and it feels unbearable.
My doctor is sending me to a urogynecologist for a second opinion. He doesn't believe they could be causing pain. That appointment isn't until mid June.
