2024.05.19 07:16 erlienbird Seeking Hope..eczema turned impetigo, urgent care, peds, and ER visit. Hard to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Last week we went to urgent care because our babies cheeks had two main eczema spots (seemingly irritated from drool on cheeks rubbing against a sleep sack) that began to weep after trying a few at home remedies. The urgent care doc prescribed a steroid (Des) and mupirocin topical antibacterial ointment. We were applying both as directed and coming up on five days and there was some improvement especially with the antibacterial, some redness as we continued to use the steroid and yet seemingly increased eczema appearing higher on the cheek.
A rash started on baby’s torso so I called our primary care to be seen and the pediatrician changed the steroid that we were applying to the two main sites at the bottom of the cheek to hydrocortisone saying the original one prescribed was too strong and not recommended. She also advised to lubricate with some cream or Vaseline.
That night we applied the hydrocortisone to the two main sites and some eucerine baby eczema cream to the rest of his face and body.
BAM-TOTAL INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE on face and body. By midnight that night baby’s face was swollen, pimply, red, and warm. I think the colloidal oatmeal is a trigger for his skin as this whole thing really blew up after first applying Tubby Todd ointment which caused increase irritation at the two main sites on his cheeks.
I went into pediatric ER that next morning and they told us to stop the steroid and started an oral antibiotic. They suggested giving the skin a break from anything but also apply Vaseline and topical antibacterial, yet we’ve waited 24 hours after the ER visit before we applied anything else to the skin.
We do see improvement within 20 minutes of the oral antibiotic but when we applied Vaseline, the skin on his face just seems to increase in pimples and redness.
The two main sites seems like their healing but it’s hard to look at because it’s not all the great looking—like when you really bust up your skin on a fall and the yellow pus/scab begins to form. There’s an eczema rash all over his arms right now. ER docs say the body rash is unrelated—that it looks viral??
We’ve gotten a few different forms of information and instructions from urgent care, our peds clinic, and the ER. It’s so hard watching my baby in pain, to be itching his face, and the tumultuous turns for these two intense sites on his cheeks.
My last resort is hoping and praying the oral meds kick this out. We’re day 2 of 7.
All this to say, I am gluten, dairy, soy, and egg free. This rash has intensified over the last two weeks and I’m losing my strength and it’s hard to feel like this is going to end or heal and I’ll be able to see my baby’s skin clear again.

2024.05.19 06:23 Mobile_Following4492 I’m super itchy and not even sure if I have scabies

I’ll start by saying I live in Canada and over the last 3 months I’ve seen several doctors including dermatologists and still have no official diagnosis and after constantly being dismissed, I’m starting to feel alone and defeated.
My ‘journey’ started in the middle of February with some intense itching in my inner thighs with no visible rash. I saw my dermatologist two weeks later and she suspected scabies but since there was no rash she couldn’t confirm anything. For the next two weeks, I felt biting sensations in my private area and the itching continued so I went back to see her. By this time the itching had moved to my armpits as well. Again, no sign of an infestation or any rashes, so told me to try anti-itch creams. There was no improvement over the next month and by now I felt like something was crawling on my skin, so I went to a walk-in clinic. Doctor couldn’t see anything that would cause any of these symptoms. They thought it was jock itch but I insisted that we explore scabies, so she told me to try 5% permethrin cream. The pharmacist sold me one tube and so I went home, followed the directions on the box and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning, washed my sheets, clothing, took a shower and figured that’s all I needed. A few days later I noticed small rashes between two of my fingers and both armpits but thought nothing of it for a couple of weeks. The itching sort of subsided but the biting and crawling sensations continued so I went to a different pharmacy and was told that I should have applied permethrin again 7 days after the first application and since I didn’t, I should just apply it as soon as possible. I bought another tube and applied it the same way as the first time, right before bed. Again, woke up, threw my stuff in the wash, took a shower and went about my day. By now I was also vacuuming daily, wearing latex gloves, wiping surfaces down with Lysol wipes, changing bedding every morning and drying everything on high heat.
A few days go by and the rashes started fading but the everything else was still there so I went to a different dermatologist and she told me that it’s definitely not scabies and that my skin was just a little dry. I sort of didn’t believe her but also kind of felt relieved as for at least two months prior to seeing her, I stayed away from everyone and worked from home and wanted to get back to my life. And so I did.
Fast forward two weeks and I discovered about 15-20 itchy pimple-like bumps on my forearm. That was 4 days ago. These pictures are from today and I now have over a hundred itchy bumps that keep spreading up my arm and since I didn’t take any precautions over the past few days have a also spread onto my genitals. Plus, my neck has a crazy rash that started this morning and it’s so itchy.
I’m so confused and I’ve been sitting at home all day, reading through hundreds of different posts trying to figure out if I had scabies and now have post scabies or if I’ve been reinfested with scabies. I will add that I’ve consistently been taking oral antihistamines since February and started trying different things like clove and neem oils, as well as 10% sulfur ointment since April, but nothing has helped. I’ve also been sitting in a near infrared sauna for 30 minutes from December until about a month ago and am wondering if maybe that’s why I didn’t have any visible signs of scabies until a few weeks after I stopped.
Not sure if I’m looking for an answer or to simply tell my story, but I’m open to opinions and advice.

2024.05.19 01:32 Novae224 [product question] diaper rash cream with zinc oxide

People who use(d) diaper rash cream as spot treatment, what are your thoughts?
I don’t have bad acne, no cysts, just some pimples on my chin around the time of the month and sometimes some breakouts elsewhere…
I’ve tried full skin care routines, but everything more than water just made my skin all sorts of things and i still had the same frequency in breakouts. I tried tea tree oil as spot treatment, but that didn’t make it go away faster. I tried salicylic acid spot treatments, but that didn’t really help either.
Now i’ve seen some people say they use baby zinc cream as spot treatments and this made me wonder. The way it is supposed to work seems very fitting for my skin, cause exfoliating products like salicyl acid just make my sensitive skin angry and baby cream is supposed to be soothing while also anti inflammatory.
I found one of a brand specific in my country and i googled most of the ingredients on the list and all of those scored 0-1 on pore clogging. I don’t wanna use it all over my face, just as spot treatment to hopefully calm down pimples and redness.
Should i try it? Are there any specific things that could ruin my skin?
(Currently not using any skincare, only washing my face with water… and my skin hasn’t been this calm in years. I just feel so helpless when a pimple pops up and i wanna put something on there)

2024.05.18 18:46 CBBlyes Medication Working Too Well. Advice?

Hello,
I could really use some advice, because I’m not too sure what to do at this point in treatment and feeling a bit hopeless.
Quick backstory, I’m a 23 M about 175 pounds. My acne was never bad, but I suffered from constant whiteheads, inflammed bumps, and the occasional cyst since 15. I truly fit the “recurrent and unresponsive to other treatments” reason for prescribing Accutane. I started in December 2023 and dosage (mg) to date has been 40:60:80:80:80:60. The drop from 80 to 60 is why I’m posting.
The Accutane worked instantly at 40; within a week all my acne disappeared and I didn’t get another pimple until halfway through 60. It was magical. Of course I had dry skin, lips, eyes, but nothing even close to outweighing the benefits or what I had heard from others’ experiences. First month on 80 was when everything changed. I got 3 cysts in a matter of a month, facial skin got extremely dry, rashes on hands and arms, skin started peeling off toes and bleeding (especially when working out), back pain, nose bleeds, beard hairs/follicles bleeding etc — the works. I kept pushing but eventually enough was enough and I reached out to my dermatologist who prescribed me a month of Prednisone. I had never taken a steroid in my life up to that point, but instantly 95% of the side effects subsided and all inflammation from the cysts disappeared.
Fast forward to last month, I ran out of my Prednisone and most side effects came back, and even more intense. But to my surprise, after my first time shaving my beard (I use straight razor, 2 blade, shaving cream, with grain, once weekly) I got the worst razor burn and bumps. I tried OTC Hydrocortisone and Aloe, but it didn’t work. I gave it a week, but no relief. I reached out to my dermatologist who prescribed Triamcinolone Acetate (topical steroid cream). Again, weeks of application and some relief, but still noticeable irritation.
What’s bothering me now, is my beard is so painful. I try to let it grow and not touch it, and it’s almost as if Eczema is occurring underneath and the beard hairs feel like needles; but if I do shave, the “Eczema” subsides but the bumps become more obvious (pictures 24 hours ago).
I feel like a shell of myself. My acne is flawless. I haven’t had a pimple in months and it’s obvious the medicine has done a fantastic job.. but possibly too well.
Any advice? I plan to reach out to my dermatologist tomorrow. I want to quit the Accutane early, but I’m scared of relapsing. I’m tracked for 9 months and have almost completed 6. The decrease to 60 was my request, and I don’t know when/if I’ll see a difference in the side effects. I can handle almost all the side effects throw my way so far, but the beard crossed the line.

2024.05.18 18:40 ViolentQuiet23 Could this be HS?

Hey guys, new here but in desperate need of help. A few months ago I developed a bad rash under my armpits that burned and itched and eventually cracked and peeled, like a really bad sun burn. On a friend's recommendation, I started putting athletes foot cream on it after trying about every other cream I could think of. It helped, but once I got it cleared and stopped using the cream, it came right back. I got it to clear again for a few months, but now it's back worse than before and across the back of my neck as well. And this time I have a big pimple (possible boil) on the left side. I'm using the athletes cream again, but so far it hasn't helped like last time. It is burning really bad, like someone has a hot iron pressed to my armpits and whenever I move my arms to much, it feels like sandpaper and my skin is going to rip open. It's driving me insane. Could it be HS? I currently don't have health insurance and can't afford an out of pocket visit, so any advice on handling it on my own would be super helpful!

2024.05.18 15:13 flirtinessyn Acne is so bad

Does anyone else often wish their skin looked better today when they see old photos of their acne (from a few months ago) and remember those moments when it was "so bad"? Haha. Obviously thats because of my skincare routine so far expensive, inexpensive etc which includes trets and azelaic acids (the lowest strength) from highstreetpharma, Cetaphil and LRP, cerave moisturisers and la roche posay spf but CeraVe makes my face break out in rash sometimes. Every time I look back, I catch myself thinking, "Wow, I'd kill to have only three pimples right now." I simply had to share!

2024.05.18 14:12 Truffle0il [Product Request] Moisturizer recommendations (sensitive and dry skin)

Hi! I'm relatively new to skincare, and I'm looking for an affordable moisturizer for my sensitive & dry skin.
I have been using the CeraVe moisturizing cream but overtime I noticed that it would frequently cause large pimples or even rashes to form. (I stopped using it for a week to test my theory and, although my skin was very dry, the pimples/rashes stopped)
I've heard that CeraVe is well known for having a simple formula, so I'm not sure what the problem is! Please share your favorite sensitive/dry skin moisturizers. Thank you!

help please
help! i’ve had this patch on my cheek since around when i hit puberty, it’s not pimples or a rash. it’s like a large cluster of really small blackheads but they look flesh colored until i pop them and a little yellow stuff comes out . when i’m on my period or if my hormones are wonky it’ll get inflamed and i’ll get a pimple or a few and they scar no matter what i do. there’s the actual bumps and then the hyperpigmentation underneath from years of inflammation. i’ve tried so many things and everything that works has been temporary. sometimes i can get the bumps to shrink but they don’t disappear fully and i can still feel the tunneling under my skin. i’ve done some research and nevus comedonus came up?? any ideas or insight would be appreciated, it is extremely noticeable to me and is the only thing ruining my confidence about my otherwise relatively clear skin, i only wear makeup on that cheek. i feel extremely defeated.

A rash or smth? It is textured but not pimple like. Mostly reddish blotches that remind me of petechiae maybe? I tried all skincare like toner and vitamin c serum and glycerin and rosewater and ginseng essence water etc… the texture is getting better but the redness not so much.
I added some flash pics too if it helps you see clearly

Itchy pimple rash 4 plus years
OK First off apologies for the really long but , super itchy. Pimple rash thing started up after I had my latest daughter. i assumed it was a reaction to my newest birth control at the time. I was on IUD in my arm. talked to my gynecologist and she said that it was a reaction to it, but I didn’t want any more kids so I figured I having itchy pimples on my face is not having more kids fast-forward a couple years just had multiple different products for my face and it helped keep it down a little bit. I end up switching to Perard, which is a copper hormonal free IUD but the rash continued I am low-key anemic constantly trying to close soap because I become super itchy on my thighs Which bruise. My daughter is now five years old almost 6. I’m not on any birth control. The rash has flared up and now for the first time it’s on my chest and extremely itchy. I don’t at this moment. Sidenote, I did have a pineal cyst. removed pretty much right above my butt crack, which is, they said at the time with some thing I was born with and it’s where the hair grew the wrong direction if it’s another hair follicle kind of thing Growing up, I had minimal acne until the itchy acne showed up, which I assumed was hormonal acne because it started on my jawline. I’m 27 years old.

2024.05.17 19:51 Chillbop2711 Random bald spot on my dog’s back?

Random bald spot on my dog’s back?
Hello everyone! Not sure if this is the right place to find some answers regarding my dog but I figured it worth a shot.
This morning, I woke up petting my dog (4 year old Goldendoodle, male), doing my usual of giving him affection and scratching his favorite spots. As I pet his back, I felt a very noticeable spot lacking hair that I never noticed or came across up until this morning.
Looking at it, I was stunned as he was never known for shedding or had any allergies that I could think of to cause a rapid reaction in hair loss. The hair around the area is seemingly thinner than what I or any of my family members remember it being. There also seems to be a small spot of what looks to be a rash or pimple but when inspecting it my dog did not show signs of irritation or bothersome. I’m not trying to scare myself I figured some of you might have some clarity or advice as to what’s going on with my furball, God knows Googling this will only fill me with more confusion and concern than I’m prepared for.
Thank you guys for any and all help you’re able to provide 🙏🏽 it’s very much appreciated

2024.05.17 17:09 Tricky-Number3619 Rash on my face spreading.

Rash on my face spreading.
Around April 8th, I noticed a rash starting to spread. I’ve never had acne or skin issues. The final photo will show you how clear my skin has always been. I am 38. The photos go in reverse chronological order. The first photo is today, and the last photo is April 2nd. I feel fine, physically. The rash isn’t painful or itchy. There’s no pimples or puss. Just red and scaly. Some areas are grey and scaly. I used hydrocortisone one night and the next morning, it looked a bit better, so I used it again the next night. No significant improvement. Decided I should ask, make an appointment. I can’t see anyone for over a week, so I’m hoping g to get some feedback, or at least know if I need to be heading to urgent care. Thank you!
Edit: there is one small scaly patch below my eyebrow as well, but it’s hasn’t spread at all.

2024.05.16 18:27 Initial_Act_1448 I think my coworker has monkey pox and thinks it’s funny. I’m grossed out and don’t want to catch it.

My coworker started talking about a rash her teen daughter got a couple of days ago. She took her to the local Native American health clinic and they said it wasn’t chicken pox but don’t know what it is. That health clinic is notorious for misdiagnosing and just refusing to diagnose people as they don’t have proper medical professionals there. I know this bc my fiancé is Navajo and has been going there his whole life.
She said they told her that her daughter doesn’t have chicken pox but they can’t figure out what it is. Now my coworker has it and all 3 of her kids have it and her boyfriend has it. She came in to work today talking about the rash on her hand and how she can’t have chicken pox because she’s vaccinated. She said it started around the mouth hands and feet and is spreading from there and looks like pimples. Sounds like monkeypox to me. She won’t get herself tested even though she could go to the actual hospital here in town with actual medical professionals for free and she wants to come in to work and spread it around the office.
I am 30 weeks pregnant I do not want to catch damn monkey pox. So disgusting. She’s over here laughing about it while everyone is saying that it’s gross.

2024.05.16 16:05 tittttay Mild rash in armpit

Hey! I picked up a very docile and somewhat skinny stray last night in Houston. Male, maybe 1-2 years old, short hair mixed breed (some German shepherd but that's a guess), maybe 50 lbs, no other signs of illness.
Generally his coat and mouth seem very healthy. He had snails all over him which we picked off and a couple fleas. We gave him a bath with dawn dish soap and cleaned out his ears.
It looks like he has a rash in his armpit; pink, light red, and skin color bumps in about the area of my palm - 2 or 3 of the bumps are larger almost looking like a pimple on a human. He has not been licking the area. Does anyone what it is and what might help it?

2024.05.16 06:48 Drectus What are these constant itchy, flat spots?

I keep getting these spots that get a little itchy but usually don't form a pimple, they just kind of stay red and then disappear after 1-2 days. They are completely flat but turn super red and stay that way the whole day. I didn't have this problem when I was on 20mg(i just cleared up immediately), maybe because it was so low but my derm has me on 60 mg, I'm 159 pounds so I feel like I shouldn't be having this reaction as it's not that high of a dose relative to my weight. I have even had to cut down on shaving to once a week because I got a TERRIBLE razor rash for an entire week from the dryness. I've been drinking tons of water and use vanicream (tub) am and pm, I just bought lrp cicaplast so I might try that.
Wondering if these spots are caused by the dryness and if anyone found a way to deal with them if they had similar experiences

2024.05.15 18:22 WoodpeckerHaunting57 Sunscreen Reviews for outdoor activities

Now that summer is on the horizon for the Northern Hemisphere, I thought we could share our experiences using AB sunscreens when doing outdoor activities.
Please include what activity you were doing, if it was strenuous.
If you had to reapply more often.
What climate you were in.
What skin tone you have and if you experienced white casting.
If you have sensitive skin.
If you had a breakout from the sunscreen.
If you got sunburned or tanned.
When did you use the sunscreen. Like what year in case there has been reformulations.
I’ll start off with my experience last year using Biores Aqua Rich Watery Essence.
I initially was only planning on using this on my face during a 5 day vacation in august on an island in Maine but ended up using it for my whole body.
I have pale skin but also redness on my arms that makes white casting more noticeable. I experienced zero white cast.
I also have very sensitive skin and I didn’t experience any rashes or itching from the sunscreen.
I don’t think I got any breakouts from the sunscreen I believe I got some pimples mostly from the exertion and not being to be able to have as long as a shower as I would like and having strong bug spray on my face everyday.
The sunscreen is very lightweight and gets absorbed fast. I was hiking every day it was slightly humid and the sun was harsh.
I didn’t get sunburned at all or tan. I did have to reapply at least once during the day.
For the 5 days I used one and a half tubes. I wore shorts so had to apply to my legs, arms and face. I love how this sunscreen can be washed off without leaving a film on your body. I feel like the sunscreen is semi water resistant at least with sweat. I didn’t swim so can’t comment on that.

2024.05.15 13:41 lipstickwhoreder Scabies or not? Long story. Please read photo attached!!! I’m healing but second dermatologist said it isn’t scabies (saw me when I was healing and not at my worst)

So I went to urgent care around March 23rd and told doctor I was experiencing itching that was intense overnight and told him I think I got scabies either from a cruise or mice at home. (I moved out) I have made a previous post about this. He sent me home with permethrin only and scheduled me to see my primary. I saw my primary about a week after and told him the same story but he made a big deal to not see me after getting some photos taken of my hands and feet by a medical assistant. He gave me ivermectin and more permethrin. He told me first he had to get approved by a dermatologist and the dermatologist said yes to prescribe it to me. I took it for two weeks 7 pills one week and 7 pills next. It has helped clear the rash on my forearm. However I was still getting those blisters on my hands and feet. After taking those pills I had requested more ivermectin because I was still feeling crawling and itchiness and the bumps were still showing up but now peeling and it would hurt to walk and my feet were swelling pretty bad and have asked to see a dermatologist in person. He gave me another 4 week dosage of ivermectin until I saw this dermatologist… well as you can see from the photos my hands have cleared up significantly but I’m still dealing with crawling three days after taking ivermectin every time. I saw the dermatologist yesterday and he told me I don’t have scabies. I feel like he didn’t see me at my worst peak cuz he checked between my toes and of course it’s all cleared up now compared to two months ago and he scraped my skin and told me it was negative (he mentioned how it’s 85% accurate) he pulled out the anxiety and stress card and said maybe it’s a form of psoriasis and eczema and put me on prednisone and clobetasol propionate and took me off ivermectin and permethrin. I told him why was ivermectin helping then? And he failed to answer the question and said he’s seen a lot of scabie patients and mine looks nothing like it. And if ivermectin didn’t take away the crawling that it isn’t scabies and if my family isn’t contaminated then it isn’t scabies. And yadayada. I mentioned how I felt this on my face and scalp and all over my body (still am after those ivermectin treatments) and said oh he feels that too like dismissing me as it being normal. Idk but I don’t trust him and he told me that I should try this new medication and that he knows that I’m gonna be feeling these crawling and think I still have scabies but it’ll go away and blah blah, but I’m just scared I’m gonna get those blisters again. And pimple looking things. And I failed to show him photos because he kept dismissing me and it was pissing me off trying to advocate for myself and I just feel so lost idk what to do. Ivermectin was slowly working. :( I moved out of the rat infested place and idk anymore, I’m still feeling bug crawls on my neck back and armpits and creasing of elbows :( is this really not scabies? Why was ivermectin working then. Someone please explain this to me :(

2024.05.15 04:00 ChaoticLawnmower I’m so fucking scared

I really wish I could post pictures of what’s on the corners of my mouth but I’m getting these little things that look like pimples on either corner of my mouth. I haven’t been hydrating as much as I should have and I swear these things cropped up overnight. They aren’t oozing yet and they really aren’t too big save for a couple notable bumps (which are no bigger than an average sized pimple) on the left corneside of my mouth. I dont have them anywhere else. Furthermore they don’t really look like warts or zits, they look a bit like chicken skin or maybe a rash but really small. They burn and tingle a little, but after showering they finally felt soothed. I don’t have any on my anus or my penis. Last sexual encounter I had was one week ago and it was exclusively oral. I also slept with this person for a week, normally nude. I’m really scared because these (what I’m currently assuming to be) cold sores seemed to show up overnight. I don’t have a history of cold sores as far as I can remember, but I do have a history of getting extremely dry skin and lips, especially in the cracks or corners of my lips. I’m scared. I’m scared I made someone sick. I’m scared I got sick and I feel awful. I need help and I don’t have the money to just go to a clinic and get a test for that, let alone a car to get me there (I live in the countryside of Texas). If anyone has examples of what herpes on the mouth really genuinely looks like or if anyone has any suggestions I really want to hear them.
I’m really sorry for rambling I’m just, spiraling a little. This is one problem on top of the many other life changing issues in my life right now.

2024.05.15 03:12 Hambubble9 Have my shingles become an emergency?

I started experiencing scout pain late Saturday night, this got worse on Sunday, and worse again on Monday. I went to the doctor when I started feeling burning on my forehead Monday night and got antivirals. Now the bumps are coming in. They are small like little red pimples—not too bad. The pain is worse on my scalp, but I have a few bumps on my forehead… And one on my eyebrow.
I was reading that shingles in the eye needs ti be treated as an emergency. I don’t have any eye pain. I had some mild dryness and pressure behind it, almost like a sinus infection, but that’s mostly gone now. But the guides so I read online say to treat eyes and ear like an emergency situation.
Is the rash creeping toward my eye the emergency? If not, where is my red line? Can you give me a redline for going to the ER and a redline for calling the ophthalmologist?
Also, should I take prednisone? The doctor said it was up to me, but I wasn’t sure if this would stop my body from fighting the infection.
