2024.05.19 19:44 plzhelpmebuildpc $12k build

Hi guys.
I am going to need quick help on deciding on the parts for a $12k build that I need to finalize parts for by the end of the week for work. I'm in Boston, I can't find anyone to help except Microcenter for this hardline cooled PC so hoping that folks here can be more helpful. The spec sheet I got after talking with the staff for about an hour is below:
Intel Core i9 14900kS Raptor Lake 3.2GHz
Asus Z790 ROG Maximus Dark Hero Intel LGA 1700 ATX Motherboard
G.Skill Zeta R5 Neo Series 192GB (4x48GB) DDR5-6400 PC5-51200 CL32 Quad Channel ECC Registered Memory Kit F5-6400R3239G48GQ4-ZR5NK-Black
Crucial T705 2TB Micron 232L TLC NAND PCIe Gen 5x4 NVMe M.2 Internal SSD
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 ROG Strix White Overclocked Triple Fan 24GB GDDR6X PCIe 4.0 Graphics card
Seasonic Prime TX-1600 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX Fully Modular Power Supply
Lian Li V3000 Plus Tempered Glass eATX Full Tower Computer Case - White
Bitspower G 1/4" Enhanced Straight Compression Fitting - Deluxe White
4 X Bitspower G 1/4" 90 degree Rotary Adapter - Deluxe White
2 X Bitspower G 1/4" Thread 45 degree Rotary Adapter - Deluxe White
6 X Bitspower G 1/4" Male to Female Straight Extender - Deluxe White
1 X Corsair iCUE XC7 RGB ELITE LCD CPU Water Block - White
2 X EK Quantum Surface P480M 480mm Radiator - White
4 X Corsair iCUE Link QX120 RGB Magnetic Dome Bearing - 120mm PWM Fans Starter Kit - White - 3 pack
1 X Corsair iCUE Link XD5 RGB Elite White Pump/Reservoir Combo - White
6 X Bitspower 1/2" (13mm) x 5/8" (16mm) PETG Link Rigid Tubing 1m - Clear
1 X Corsair iCUE Link Qx120 RGB Magnetic Dome Bearing 120mm PWM Fan - White
1 X EKWB CryoFuel Dye Pack
The water cooling from Corsair doesn't look the best in my opinion. But the staff were going off of what's in stock. There is also no GPU block specified here, as we had agreed I would provide an EKWB, however there seems to be some recent drama around EKWB and I don't wanna give them our hard earned bucks.
I need to ask you all for help around the water cooling aspect of this build. I love custom PCs although I've never build one, and I am looking for advice on how to better do it. My understanding is that the V3000 is supposed to be massive, and we could put in two reservoirs, and it may be beneficial to have multiple pumps as well to help the flow around the system.
I'm happy with the fittings from Bitspower but open to other ideas.
I wish I could get nice custom cables to match the aesthetic of this build but I do not have time to wait the 3 weeks they apparently take to ship. Nonetheless I am thinking of upgrading it down the road, so also open to ideas there.
Happy to answer more questions. Any help you can provide would be wonderful.

What part is this and why is there an oil leakage?
Hi there. My smart 450 cdi (0.8 diesel engine, year 2004) creates oil droplets when parked which is annoying. I think I found the part. What exactly is this? And how can I address the leakage? In the upper right corner of the picture you may notice the motor block.
Any hints?

2024.05.19 19:42 jerkytreats1 Water Softener Shower Attachment - ShowerStick

I've had the ShowerStick for hard water for about two years now, and can say it definitely softens water. I tested it daily using two kits for several months and the numbers don't lie.
Pros:
Cons:
I've been using it for two years, so obviously the pros outweigh the cons for me, but I just thought I would share the whole experience with you all. I'm also curious if there are any similar products out there to try that work as well as the ShowerStick. Please let me know if you know of any.

2024.05.19 19:38 ImportantAmbition618 Caught in a Bidding War and Feeling Buyer's Remorse

We are first-time homer buyers and our offer on a Seattle home was recently accepted. The buyer's agent called us and said there's a strong offer that's expiring in three hours. The listing had only been active for two days, and it was our second time seeing the house. She asked us if we were willing to go higher. We did the math, offered our max price without putting a CMA together due to the high time pressure. Our agent had to scramble and put the offer letter together. Our agent did not stop us as she thought the house was of the value that we were offering. The buyer's agent kept pushing our agent seeing if we could offer more as the other buyer matched our offer. Eventually, we had to waive inspection and financial contingencies to win the bid.
Waiving inspection was fine, as our agent knew the pre-inspector and he did an awesome job. The appraisal came in just 10k lower (our offer was over 1 mil). However, the seller did not agree to lower the price or meet us in the middle as we didn't have an appraisal contingency in the contract. This was kind of the last straw knowing the stressful buying experience that the buyer's agent put us through (but yes, we also take responsibility for our decision) and knowing the house had issues like knob and tube, an old water heater, and an older roof that have 5 -10 years left from the pre-inspection report.
My partner and I liked the house enough. It has a good school district, it checks all the boxes, but not at the price point along with all the waived contingencies (but yes it was ultimately our decision, and we kinda messed up). My partner eventually mentioned that she probably wouldn't be here for more than 5 years, as she prefers other neighborhoods after we spent some time walking around the neighborhood. We are now experiencing strong buyer's remorse deciding if we should back out from the deal and lose our earnest money (4%) while we still can. We chatted with our agent and she was super understanding and will help us get in touch with people on her side to provide some legal perspective. Would you guys continue to close the sale or back out and potentially find a cheaper, smaller home?

2024.05.19 19:30 Zealousideal_Cow_940 AC not blowing cold air after new water heater installed.

On Friday we got a new water heater installed and later that night we realized our AC wasn’t blowing cold air but is turning on. Would installing the new water heater affect the AC unit at all? AC and water heater are next to each other and both are electric.

Hello! I’m looking to sell everything included in this photo. Unfortunately I do not have enough space to keep this little lad and I would love to have someone fortunate to take care of him. He’s a marble Betta fish! He actually has turned much more darker than appeared in this photo but he’s lovely and swell. I’m hopefully looking to sell this by the end of the week! Included: 5 Gallon, filter, heater, plants, substrate, landscape-ish, fish, pellet food, water conditioner.

2024.05.19 19:21 acelam Very concerned for my boy this morning..

Very concerned for my boy this morning..
Tank Size: 5 gal, planted Temp: 80 degrees; has a heater and thermometer Filtered: Yes, HOB that was cycled before stock addition Tankmates: Two nerite snails Parameters: 0/0/0, PH 7.4 via api water test kit - pics included
Koya has been very active since he came home a week ago, until Friday. Friday morning he didn't eat and I fished his uneaten pellets from the top but I wasn't too concerned because he was still active and had also eaten his frozen brine shrimp really well the previous night.
Friday night he was hiding a lot from me which has become very unusual. Usually he's insanely curious about what I'm doing and sometimes gets in the way of me collecting water for the water test. He also didn't respond at all to food but I still didn't really worry.
Yesterday he didn't eat again and spent all day hiding under his driftwood and coconut bridge. Today he's doing the same, except he has hung out resting on the swordcaps under the rosette, but he's not swimming around and just stays in one spot until he comes up for a breath at the surface.
He's not having any issues swimming. He darts to the top and back down quickly and is able to stay upright. Last night I got up to use the restroom and stopped by his tank to check in and he was resting at the surface snoozing, but not on his side or any weird position. He's not struggling getting wherever he wants to go and maintaining his position, he's just not moving around so much.
Is this normal for bettas? I'm concerned about him not eating, but I have watched him pick off little worms off the glass (4th pic included). I believe they're just detritus worms but whatever they are he is eating them.
When I am able to see him he doesn't look discolored and there's nothing about his appearance that makes me worried. His fins are in tact and he's not showing signs of nipping them or any signs of fin rot.
Am I freaking out over nothing or is there cause for concern?

2024.05.19 18:49 Affectionate-Gap8071 Convert duplex to single family home

We currently own a ranch duplex on slab on 4 acres. We love this school district and the privacy we have here. We just need more room for our family to grow.
There are two apartments on each side of the building; a two bedroom one bath and a one bedroom one bath.
The apartments are connected by garages and you have to go outside to get to the other garage. All under a 3,000 square foot roof.
The one bedroom apartment is connected to a two car deep garage and part of it houses the utilities; oil tank, furnace, boiler, water filtration tanks and water softeners. All water lines are in the attic.
Our vision is to create a Scandinavian long house. Dark exterior vinyl, dark stained porches on both sides, big new windows and new doors. Complete gut Reno inside.
We already put on a new roof, new boiler.
We have baseboard water heaters for heat and no central air. What’s the best option for us if we convert into a single family home?
We are planning to save up a bunch of cash and take out a heloc.
Has anyone ever done this conversion?
The other side to this is to leave the duplex as is and add an addition, so we continue to have income from the other apartment and garage space. Will both options even out in price?

2024.05.19 18:44 buji8829 Question about steam ports and rad overflows?

Hey guys,
I know not 100% engine building but you lot are probably the smartest.
Im doing a vw diesel swap into my sidekick. The engine has a steam port out of the head which I have routed into the factory expansion tank (which is how it is in the platform it comes from.
Im running a rad from a landrover 300 tdi which has a solid rad cap (no venting) and a overflow/expansion port.
Im at a cross roads, could I block this off? Or should I tie it into my expansion tank? I currently have it on its own overflow with a vent on it?

2024.05.19 18:42 SirAndre22 Repro VKBO Layer 5 Review

Repro VKBO Layer 5 Review
As lots of you guys asked me about my opinion on this repro, i made this post to share what i think about this product.
Pictures:
  1. Comparison with BTK 2018 Summer suit.
  2. Interior and the lining of the jacket.
  3. Armpit ventilation zipper and jacket pocket
  4. Elbow and knee reinforcement material
  5. Pants suspenders
  6. Side zipper on the pants and tightener of the pant's pocket 8&9. Ankle fastener and zipper
All functions of the real layer 5 are present in this repro. The material has a rubbery feel. It is claimed to be made of 98% Polyamide and 2% elastane, and coated with teflon. To simulate the feel and the function of the real VKBO Layer 5 suit.
Yesterday i was able to test it under the rain. I cannot feel any wind passing to my body while using it on a bike under medium rainfall. The suit is able to block most of the rain water. But zomd water is able to get through at area around the chest velcro (name tag). I suspect it was caused by the velcro only being sewed on after the suit has finished being coated with teflon.
Some parts of the suit sewing are a little rough. But it can be resew if needed. The pants susoenser is not as sturdy as the real one. It feel cheap as shown in the picture number 6. But it is comfortable to wear and able to hold the pants very well.
The suit did not fade after wash and there is no apparent dye runoff. I would refrain from using washing machine to wash this suit as i did not trush the zipper and fastener will survive repeated banging in the washing machine.
Overall i am very pleased with the quality of the product. As im wearing the test batch of the suit, i am sure the next batch will have some improvement and performed better than mine.
Cheers

Need help with heater plug
I have my pool closed and lines blown by pool guys every year and open it myself. This plug that normally goes into my heater is snapped off, I’m guessing when they closed it last year. How do I get it out? When I turn the pump on water just keeps shooting out the hole even though it’s screwed in real good. I’ve tried sticking Allen wrenches and screwdrivers in and turning it to loosen but that hasn’t worked.
Thanks so much

2024.05.19 18:15 thechordofpleasure Spike the Betta Died Today - Advice For Next Time

Man, I feel so bad for Spike the Betta. He started showing signs of fin rot 3 months ago and it was stable until last month when I came home from being away for a week and his fins were so damaged.
Up until two days ago he was still spunky and eating.
I live in Canada, so we can't get antibiotics for the tank.
I tried aquarium salt, and this stuff with capsaicin in it. I added almond leaves, used bio support, removed the stone house in case that was fraying his fins, I only had silk plants.
He was housed in a 1 gallon aquarium (not ideal, I know), with a filter, light and heater.
One other thing is we did get a green algae bloom that I have also been battling.
I guess my question is more of a general aquarium/water quality question. For a 1 gallon, I was doing weekly 20-30% changes. I added bio support and conditioner each time. I do live in a place with hard water, not sure if that has bearing on anything. Is this enough to theoretically keep things healthy for a Betta? What more would you suggest I could do?
I used to have a 40 gallon tank 20 or so years ago, but just don't have the space for a big tank anymore. Taking care of small tanks seems so much more difficult.
RIP Spike, you were a good Betta.

2024.05.19 18:07 Key-Dragonfruit9732 Namor sucks = heres the rework

Namor's kit is really underwhelming. We can all agree that his kit kind of sucks. He is, similarly to Storm, kind of boring and undeveloped. So here's the rework I've come up with to make Namor the powerful ruler of the seas, having control over the battlefield:
He would be a tank, but only with around 500 HP, making him a utility tank. (By the way, it would be sick if he could levitate a bit like Sigma from Overwatch instead of walking.)
Instead of his primary fire, he would use his trident as a melee weapon (I imagine it having a bit larger hitbox, similar to magic).
And instead of that boring enhanced trident ability, he would gain a secondary fire which would be quite similar to his primary fire (obviously it would have to do less damage and be much slower).
His passive, instead of hovering, would allow Namor to fly a bit (similarly to Pharah from Overwatch, it would have a charge meter). He would be able to fly a bit, but during that, he is unable to fire and can only use his abilities (I imagine it being more useful for getting high ground, repositioning, etc.).
Instead of his bubble ability, he would be able to throw two similar bubbles on the ground, working as cover for teammates.
I think his oct-turrets and his ultimate should stay the same.
I would give him a bonus ability which would allow him to build a large wall of water, similar to walls in Valorant, blocking the sight of enemies and slowing them down when moving through. This ability would have a long cooldown, maybe like 30-40 seconds.

So I go to feed my betta Empyerian and he's up against the housing for the water filter. I thought OMG he's dead. I go to move it and I get this FARK YOU look and he swims off! I don't know why he likes it there. Is it because it's the side facing the window? I got him a heater it's not adjustable but damn It!

2024.05.19 18:03 alpine_racer Oil burner and heat pump

My son just moved into a house built in the 1930s. It has an oil-fired steam boiler with radiators throughout the house. The water heater is electric. It also has what I assume is a Bryant heat pump out back with an air handler in the basement for ac for the first floor only. When I turned the thermostat up to check the heat, the boiler fired, the unit out back turned on, and heat started coming out of the first floor vents that I thought were just for ac. The radiators stayed cold. I don’t know why the boiler and the unit outside would both turn on. Is this normal or ok for an older house? Thank you.

2024.05.19 17:55 MacPhisto312 Some initial impressions of the M4 iPad with Nano-Texture Display

I wanted to provide some impressions with the Nano Texture display. I’m not a full-time artist, I’m just now starting to get into 3D modeling (but have just dipped my toes in the water), and I love editing photography as a hobby.
I originally purchased a 1TB Standard Display iPad that was delivered on May 15th. However on Friday the 17th, I saw an Apple Store had the 1TB Nano Texture in stock, and so I picked that up as well and did some side by side comparisons. I had them together in a well lit living room, a darkened bedroom (curtains closed but not pitch black), as well as in complete total darkness. And overall, yes, there is a bit of a difference, but it is so incredibly small, that I can only see it if I’m looking at both side by side.
In a pitch black room and side by side, there is a hint more saturation and a hint of deeper blacks. But how often am I in that scenario? Usually right before I’m going to bed. For the other 90% of the time I’m using the iPad, I am in lit areas of varying degrees, and in those situations, not having glaring reflections wins out every single time. When I can see visible reflections on my screen, that 2% extra deep black doesn’t mean anything because it’s being washed out by the horrible reflection. The Nano Texture diffuses the light, making it a much, MUCH better viewing experience. Sure the image gets washed out as well, but in a much softer way and provides a much easier reading experience because your brain isn’t trying to see through a reflection.
The other thing I’ve really loved about the Nano Texture, is it almost gives this display an E-Ink feel to it. Except it would be the most gorgeous, bright, high-resolution E-Ink display you’ve ever seen. Everything you view almost feels like it has a printed quality to it. Things are less digital and more physical feeling. And at first it may be a bit jarring. When I bought my Studio Display with Nano Texture over a year ago, when it first came in I struggled on if I should replace it with glossy, it just looked a bit different. But after a year, and having my Nano Studio Display at home and working off a glossy display in the office, Nano is absolutely my preferred viewing choice. And maybe that year of adjusting my eyes to this matte display helped my transition from glossy iPad display to matte. iJustine mentioned it in one of her videos, but it is a bit weird for your brain because it’s used to seeing through reflections, and this just doesn’t have them.
Speaking of E-Ink, I’ve been doing some reading from the Kindle App on my new Nano iPad, and it is a pretty big improvement and easier on the eyes reading long blocks of texts. I think this goes back to the images on the display feeling more print like and less digital. This will 100% replace me using my Kindle Oasis and I also can’t wait to start getting into some graphic novels with this display.
Finally the texture of the screen. There is definitely a difference to the touch, but this just feels like a much smoother (and even softer) surface to slide my fingers around compared to the standard glass. It really feels premium. Fingerprints have been way less of an issue for me compared to standard. Yes, they are there, but the microfiber cloth provided removes them easily enough. And if I need to really clean my screen, I can always use the 70% alcohol which works magically on my Nano Studio Display. And when using the Apple Pencil, the difference isn’t as drastic, but it’s there, and it made sketching in Procreate a bit better of an experience. I’ve never used Paperlike, but I can say the Nano does offer a bit of a friction with the pencil that you don’t get with standard glass.
Needless to say, my Standard iPad is getting returned to Apple and I am keeping the Nano iPad. For me, I’d rather take a 2% hit on contrast if it means the viewing experience on my iPad will be drastically better 90% of the time because of no reflections. And for those times I’m streaming YouTube or Netflix before I go to sleep, I’ll never miss the barely noticeable drop in contrast and saturation.
Hope this helps anyone else thinking about getting a Nano iPad. The experience may not be for everyone, but if you’re like me, once you‘re eyes and brain have adjusted to this different type of display, it’s so hard to go back to a display that showcases reflections so much.
