Can nasal spray impact blood sugar?

2024.05.19 14:08 Fun-Mix5112 Can nasal spray impact blood sugar?

Everything I read says no, but many times what Type 1s actually experience didn't always align.
Have any of you ever experience a fast drop after using Afrin nasal spray? Within 2 minutes of using it, my son was down for the count.
Trying to figure out if it was just coincidence. G7 said he was at 87. We poured coke down his throat but he was out cold. Rescue to him

2024.05.19 14:01 InfiniteChildhood630 Nasal polyps

I hope this helps someone, I've had chronic sinusitus with nasal polyps (confirmed by an ENT) for about 5 years, the last year or so it started to disrupt my sleep, usual symptoms blocked nose, dry mouth from mouth breathing and general awful time and experience with poor sleep, I'm 34 very fit and active and felt this was ruining my life!
I've been on all the usual steroid sprays - avamys, dymista, prednisolone tablets and various drops, which sometimes help but they cannot be taken long term and don't really do much other than periodically reduce symptoms, I didn't want surgery as from what I gather the polyps are a later stage of nasal inflammation, if you cut them off then more appear as you are not fixing the cause.
I refused to accept the modality of the day that I just have to live with this so I have been searching and trying various lifestyle and dietary changes.
I have spent thousands on supplements, alternative therapies, spent hours if not days researching what is going on and how to help get a better quality of life with this awful condition, it appears that the microbiome is sick and/or depleted, I dabbled with with medical medium diet, stopped eating gluten, diary, eggs and consuming alcohol in high quantities (this has been very hard as I'm Scottish).
For about a week I have been taking 10 000fu's of nattokinase in the morning with water, I am gobsmacked to say the least, my nose Is clearing, i get intermittent bouts of full smell, my taste is getting better by the day, and most of all, I can sleep soundly, I also take fish oil, a probiotic and NAC all at different times throughout the day so not to interfere with each other! Once you start searching for studies on nattokinase and microbiome link to sinus health you find there is so much on these topics, I have attached one study below, if this post helps one person I will be delighted as it has been such a thorn in my side for years and I really feel for other people with worse chronic conditions, god bless 🙏🏼

2024.05.19 13:38 Witty_Cantaloupe8720 Why doesn't medication work on my nose?

TLDR: Suffering from a chronic stuffy nose and medications like azelastine hydrochloride, fluticasone propionate, betamethasone, oxymetazoline hydrochloride, desloratidine and psuedoephedrine don't work on me.
I (19M) have been having trouble with a chronic clogged nose for about 3 years and it has either gotten worse, or I'm noticing it more due to being more physically active.
During the day it feels like I can get in very little air from my nose and my sense of smell is impaired. Normally it's dry, not runny. It can differ from day to day, sometimes feeling a bit better, but even then it's not adequate. I notice it most when doing any sort of physical activity that raises my heart rate like lifting weights, going on hikes, running, etc. Of course everyone finds it harder to breath during exercise, but since my normal ability to breath through my nose is worsened, raising my heart rate makes it impossible.
Other symptoms: - Dry throat when waking up due to mouth breathing. - Unbearable clogged nose when sick. - Worse with colder weather: as my nose gets runny, I feel like the mucus blocks the already small hole I'm getting air from. - Only able to smell strong odors.
After seeing my x-ray, my doctor told me that I had an inflamed nasal mucosa and a slightly deviated septum, which wasn't deviated enough to be the cause. He prescribed me a nasal spray with active ingredients: azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate. Used the spray as per his instructions for about 2 weeks, but it had no effect.
Next he prescribed me another nasal spray containing oxymetazoline hydrochloride for 5 days, 10 tablets of desloratadine and a betamethasone muscular injection. None of them produced even a slight change in my condition. Reading some good reviews on the Internet made me want to try taking a psuedoephedrine tablet before a long hike, but again no effect.
Up until now I have never abused nasal sprays, using them rarely with particularly bad colds. And also haven't used oral medication for my nose before.
So my question is, why don't anyone of these medications decongest my nose at all when they work well for most other people?

2024.05.19 13:21 Federal_Machine692 I work as a security guard in a secret government facility, and this is what happened (Part 1)

Buster growled softly, baring his teeth at me as he stood in defiance. His stance rigid and unyielding, his tail stiff, and ears pinned back - he watched my every move with alert eyes.
My 3-year-old German shepherd had intuitively figured out the prospect of an upcoming bath when he saw me reach for the towel, and decided to give me a hard time over it.
“I know buddy. I am not happy about it either. But I will make it quick. I promise,” I tried to reason, holding up both hands to reassure him.
‘But it’s not even been a week…’ I could almost imagine him saying those exact words to me when he growled back in protest.
“You’re right...But listen, man. You’re dirty. I can feel your presence from here,” I said, standing ten feet away and pretending to cover my nostrils with my finger.
Buster, of course, didn’t care and continued to defy without hesitation.
I put my hands on my hip and sighed. My glance immediately shifted to a hose attached to a tap outside my quarters.
“Tell you what. I’ll make it worth your while. You don’t mind the jet spray, right? In fact, you even tolerate it sometimes,” I said, pointing to the hose located only a few feet away.
“How about a little cooperation now, and I’ll make you your favorite meal a little later?” I asked him, while reaching out to pick a can of chicken liver from the kitchen.
As I dangled the can in my hand, I could see it slowly chipping away at his resolve, his mind grappling with the pros and cons of my new proposal.
A moment later, Buster barked at me twice and slowly made his way out of the house. He sat by the garden tap, ready to receive his bath.
I took a handful of lotion and began to rub it against his torso to remove all the muck and grime that was sticking to his body. We had been quite busy lately, guarding the base and conducting multiple patrols along the perimeter every day. The rain a few hours ago certainly didn't help matters, with Buster leaping over puddles of water and actively rolling in the mud to escape the desert heat. I had to use a brush to remove the layers of dirt that had caked all over his body.
It’s been a strange week, to say the least. The days were busy but peaceful, while the nights brought scattered, random sounds. Their origins were a mystery, as they appeared not to originate from the base. But I wasn’t too worried about it, not yet anyway.
There is an air base located a couple of hours away from the facility, and it wasn’t unusual for them to conduct sorties at odd hours in the night. I assumed they were probably testing out some new technology.
My colleague Joe thought the same thing as well. But we couldn’t take any chances, and we both had a job to do. So we conducted regular patrols around the base just as a precautionary measure.
But deep down, I felt something nagging at me, like I was being watched by someone or something. I couldn’t exactly put it into words.
For a second, I wondered if Buster too felt the same way when I saw him suddenly lift his head up, listening intently with his ears up in attention.
I quickly turned back to check if there was anybody standing behind me, but I found no one. When I turned around to face him again, I saw him looking up at the night sky, his gaze focused and unwavering.
“What’s it buddy? You see something?” I asked him as I cleared away the foam from his face. Moments went by slowly. And then, just like that, as if nothing had happened, he put his head down and began pawing my leg, urging me to finish his bath. I sighed again and turned on the hose, to wash off all the soap.
He finally looked presentable and I have to admit, his coat glistened beautifully under the moonlight.
Before I could reach for his towel, Buster swiftly moved in to close the gap between us and looked me in the eye dead serious. He then shook his body vigorously, much like a wet dog trying to rid itself of wetness, and trotted off without bothering to look back.
I laughed out loud as I sat there, drenched in water. I knew I should have seen that coming. However, my smile quickly faded, as it also reminded me of Jessica, my ailing wife.
Before another thought could take shape in my mind, I heard a familiar voice blare across the radio.
“Mike, I need you down here. Get to the post quick.”
It was my colleague Joe and I replied back in the affirmative. I quickly grabbed my gear and signaled Buster to follow after me.
When I reached the post, I saw Joe standing there armed with his rifle. As a seasoned war veteran with two tours under his belt, Joe was a dangerous man and not to be trifled with. But he was also compassionate and wise beyond his years.
“What’s up Joe?” I inquired, as I approached him near the entrance of the base.
“I am not sure yet. I thought I heard something at a distance. It could well be nothing.” he replied, after a brief pause.
‘Well, we’ve had a lot of that going around all week’, I thought to myself.
He then turned around to look at me. “I want you to run a perimeter sweep first. Then go on patrol again. Take Buster with you” he said, before heading back to his post.
I started the jeep and drove out towards the perimeter. The engine hummed softly as I navigated the rough terrain, with Buster sitting alertly beside me. After finding nothing suspicious during my initial sweep, I decided to broaden my search radius.
A mile into the drive, Buster suddenly started barking, prompting me to stop the jeep immediately. He leaped onto the ground and dashed towards a boulder located a short distance away. I picked up my rifle and cautiously followed after him.
When I reached the spot, I keyed the mic attached to my shirt and said, "Boss, you need to come see this."
I knew he wasn’t going to be happy about leaving the guard post unmanned, but I thought he would prefer to come and inspect this himself.
Joe arrived ten minutes later, parking his vehicle next to mine. He walked towards the boulder overlooking a small pond, and switched on his torch to get a better look at the skeletal remains of an animal dumped nearby. Three other animal remains lay next to it, all appearing to be in a similar condition.
“These look like coyotes, probably stopping by to drink water from the pond before they were killed,” he observed, his voice expressing concern. “Did you find them like this?”
“Yes”, I replied. “And they weren’t here when I drove through the same place this morning. I thought it was quite odd to be honest, to find four of them out here all at once in the middle of the desert, that too at this hour.”
Joe simply nodded in agreement.
“What sort of creature do you think did this Joe?”
“I mean it must have a ravenous appetite to chew every sinew of flesh from the bone, and lick it this clean.” I said, leaning in take another look.
“Do you think it could be the Chupacabra or something similar?” I continued, knowing fully well my question was a bit far-fetched, but I had to still get it off my chest.
Joe finally stood up, switched off his torch, and looked around the vast open desert in quiet contemplation.
“This is in fact the fifth sighting in less than a week, Mike, and all have occurred in close proximity to secure government installations. The one before this was even stranger, and happened near a military base, where an old buddy of mine continues to serve.”
“He told me in that instance, the remains belonged to a dog. There were no signs of flesh or connecting tissue from the nasal region to the abdominal section, while the region spanning from the abdominal cavity to the tail bone was left fully intact. The whole thing was carried out with surgical precision, and drew morbid praise from even the medic back at the base.”
"But how is that even possible? What are you suggesting, Joe?" I asked, surprised by the tone of my own voice and my inability to hide my disappointment upon hearing about it for the first time.
“This is not a hunt for prey, Mike. This is a hunt for attention. Somebody is trying to make a point. And I’d say they are accomplishing their objective.” Joe said.

2024.05.19 12:32 No-Mango-3128 Sudden issues after 2 years of using CPAP

I've been using my Airsense 11 for 2 years now and it's been amazing since day one. Never had any issues, even when sick. I use the Airfit P10 nasal pillows and love them.
Just starting a week ago, I've been waking up insanely congested and with a sore throat. When I try to put the mask back on I feel like I'm suffocating. I've tried turning autoramp off. I've always used autoclimate but I've tried messing around with the humidifier and heat only to get rainout and still wake up with a sore throat.
I take allergy meds and nasal sprays daily, and have been using decongestants and started saline rinses since this issue began but I'm not getting any relief! I'm totally fine until I wake up after about 4 hours with a sore throat, congestion, and headache.
I'm totally out of ideas, in my two years using my CPAP I've never run into any issue like this before. Any other solutions? I thought about just not wearing it for a few days but I think my spouse will literally kill me if I snore all night. I don't know too much about this because the preset settings on the machine have been perfect for me up until now.

2024.05.19 11:30 SapphireWellbeing What scenario do you think is more likely for severe flare up?

TLDR: A) histamine liberator, avocado B) Bleach + mold
I seem to react more to histamine liberators more than histamine itself, strawberries and mango make me feel suicidal?!
Today I tried to reintroduce avocado, but now I'm thinking maybe it wasn't just the avocado... I had sprayed down my shower with bleach as there was a bit of mold in the corner, and left it. I came back to my bathroom after having dinner, to wash my hands in the shower (chlorine free shower filter), and then got ready to leave to go to a friends house.
Cut to 10 minutes later and the worst flare up I've had in a while. Had to turn around and come home.
I'm recovering from topical steroid withdrawal on one hand, and it blew up bright red, itchy as hell, and my fucking finger bones hurt. My elbow on the same arm was flushing and itching too. My gums ached and throbbed, I'd recently had them hygenically cleaned so they were still inflamed. And a burn I had a few weeks ago became bright red. Then the psychosomatic symptoms hit, panic, anxiety etc.
I had to take an antihistamine, and it calmed right down. I don't like taking them frequently as I'm trying to recover from adrenal fatigue, but thank god I had one on hand.

2024.05.19 10:46 mrchaplin1889 tinnitus after nasal rinse

Hi all! I am trying to understand and solve a problem with my ears after FESS septoplasty surgery. I think more or less a month after the surgery, I started to hear a deep car engine sound in my head. It's constant and only goes away when I play with my ear for only 2-3 seconds and comes back. after useless doctor visits which didn't cure anything but only charged me more money. I am trying to understand the problem and also solve it by myself. I am using daily allergy pills and dymista spray to reduce allergy reaction in my nose and also clean the frontal sinus. I'm also still rinsing my sinus at least 2 times a day.
Any recommendations about tinnitus or anyone else having the same problem? I believe this sound it's because of the nasal rinse. I stopped doing it for 1 month but it didn't change much tho.

Alright, I threw up and was blowing chunks of food out my nose. Used nasal spray and I've been blowing my nose and I'm breathing fine but it's hard to swallow. It feels like there's food stuck just above my throat and at the bottom of my nose. Every time I search it up, I'm met with results that aren't similar to what I'm talking about. Please help me get it out :(

2024.05.19 06:14 Ksizzle2_0 Child Allergic to Cat but Other Child Loves the Cat

Child Allergic to Cat but Other Child Loves the Cat
I have four children and we own a three year old Ragdoll cat as well as a two year old Rottweiler. My children are young (ages 11, 8, 6, and 4). My 8 year old daughter absolutely loves the cat to pieces!! GBut we just discovered that my 6 year old son is allergic to cats. His nose is consistently stuffy, his eyes are watery and his skin can get irritated/itchy.
An allergy specialist confirmed my son is allergic to cats (my son also has a minor allergy to dust mites and dogs). But to rehome the cat would destroy my daughter. My daughter has already given away her bunny when we needed the space for her grandfather to move in (as well as other reasons). She also had to give up half of her room to make space for her younger brother to share. I would hate to have to take the cat away from her without exhausting all of our options.
So far we have: - switched to PurinaPro LiveClear Cat Allergen Reducing Food - I use Allerpet once a week (this is a daunting task) and groom the cat - I sprayed Allersearch Cat Dander Spray (waited two hours and vacuumed and wiped everything I possibly could) - I vacuum consistently and washed all coverings and drapes with a HEPA vacuum - his room is cat free (the entire upstairs is cat free) - bought HEPA Air Purifiers
The allergy specialist suggested washing the cat once a week but that would be traumatizing for the cat and no way for the cat to live as she hates water.
The allergy specialist also did not recommend allergy shots for a six year old. It is intensive and expensive. He would have to go 2x a week to get a needle for months. Plus it’s near unaffordable.
We tried the allergy medication prescribed but my son’s stomach could not handle the steroid spray or pills.
I don’t know what to do. I am so lost. I told my daughter we will give this new cat food a month or two to see if it helps with the dander. My time is already limited as I school my kids at home so incessantly vacuuming, washing clothes that come into contact with the cat plus then washing the washer machine is becoming unsustainable.
I am open to any further suggestions as my heart is breaking for both of my kids. Thank you kindly.

2024.05.19 02:51 listentotheraisin Finally GONE!! Here is what worked for me.

So thrilled my perioral dermatitis is finally gone!! I am pregnant so doxy was not an option.
Cause: I used steroid cream on my face for 5 months. Had no clue it would cause POD.
Solution: after much trial and error, below is the routine I have been using that finally made it go away. I’m sure time passing helped as well. From the day i stopped the steroid cream to the day it went away was about 9 weeks total of the dreaded rash. I definitely think it would have gone away sooner had I started the tower28 spray, sulfur mask, and distilled water initially. These two things seemed to make the biggest difference in combo with the avene ciclafate
  1. Installed a filter on my shower head to prevent hard water from touching my face when hair washing, and use a spray bottle of distilled water when washing my face
  2. De la Cruz Sulfur mask 2 times per day for 10-30 min
  3. Wash face with distilled water only in AM and vanicream wash in PM
  4. tower28 SOS spray on dry clean skin, wait for it to dry completely before next step
  5. ivermectin cream (im pretty sure this was useless)
  6. Avene ciclafate mixed with cerave baby lotion
I hope this helps someone! This sub was so helpful for me during this 9 week journey. Much more helpful than my derm who gave me ivermectin cream and said call her if it is still present after 3 months -__-

2024.05.19 01:44 rioichi4 My partner has started snoring and I feel like my life has shattered

Getting a good night sleep is the ONLY way I have found to not experience daily burnout. I have worked SO hard on making our bedroom the ideal sleep environment: black out curtains, humidifier and air purifier for white noise, no electronics in the room at all, handmade pillows, expensive mattress cover....
My partner and I have been together almost 6 years, and over the past year or so they've slowly started snoring. Now, any given time they're asleep, it's like an 85% chance they are snoring. And LOUD. White noise doesn't cover it. I even bought some really nice sleep headphones thinking that having white noise directly in my ears would help, but I turned it up so loud I got a warning and my ears hurt and I could still hear the snoring. I also tried several different ear plugs. Most were not comfy enough to sleep in, and none of the ones that were actually blocked out noise. (Well they blocked out the white noise but not anything else so).
My partner goes to sleep before I do, so it makes sense that they go in the bedroom and close the door so they can sleep while I'm still up doing things. And I just sneak into bed quietly when I'm ready. But now when my partner is there, that place that was so quiet and peaceful, a sanctuary from the world, now feels hostile because of the noise. So, I end up on the couch, with only room for one pillow, unable to stretch to the sides, in the living room with all the electronics and no blackout curtains.
I know my partner isn't doing on it purpose, but I FEEL like it's a personal attack, like every time they snore, it's a personal "f*ck you" just for me. I don't know how to not feel this way. I don't know how to accept the snoring, if I even can. And I don't know how to sleep well outside my sanctuary.
As for WHY they are snoring, they seem to think it's because of allergies or a sinus infection or something like that, and are taking medication and nasal sprays, which...maybe help a LITTLE? I personally think it's because we're both getting into our 30s, have become lethargic after moving into a better living situation 2 years ago, and have thus gained weight. With much convincing, they've started exercising, but refuse to cut out any sugar, and they won't drink anything that isn't out of a bottle or can, which means soda and I haven't been able to convince them that sugar free soda actually isn't bad. So. If this is the problem, it's not going to change very quickly.

2024.05.19 01:35 According_Bit_4561 I feel like I’m dying everyday, someone please help me 😭

I am a 28 year old female. 5’1 approx 135/140 pounds. Past medical history is PCOS, anxiety, heart palpitations.
About 6 months ago I started getting an insane pressure in my head and behind my eyes. It feels like there is a balloon being inflated in my brain. Oftentimes I feel like my head is floating and I feel very disoriented. My eyes have trouble focusing and I have a lot of brain fog. My breathing seems “off” and I feel like I’m not getting enough oxygen which has caused me so much dizziness and anxiety. I have tried all the sinus remedies and none seem to fix my problem. OTC sinus meds, nasal sprays, allergy medication, nothing is working. I live on my stomach because that is the only thing that gives me even the slightest relief, and I feel like it is causing me soreness in my chest.
I’ve been to the ER multiple times. I’ve gotten CT scans, bloodwork, EKG. Nothing ever appears to be wrong but something HAS to be. Everyday I feel like I’m going to pass out at any minute.
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on with me?

2024.05.19 01:03 Numerous_Society9565 Can you use Buserelin temporarily?

I only recently started hrt, with 4mg injections weekly and 100mg spiro, but ive been worried that while this will eventually suppress testosterone, it could very well take a while and maybe even allow for more masculization. I am still in puberty, so id rather stop that as quickly as possible, which has led me to the idea of buying nasal spray buserelin from Russia for relatively cheap.
Could I just take buserelin for 1 month or so with a lower dose of injections, just until my T production is completely reduced, and then go off of it and back onto a low dose of spiro (50mg) with my normal injections, and would there be no lasting impact? Like, would my testosterone stay suppressed even though I stop it, or would it surge back? Or are there other effects of gnrh agonists Im not aware of.
Maybe im just being overly concerned, and my current regiment is enough to halt masculinization? but then again 60 bucks for a gnrh to be 100% sure isnt much. Any insight is helpful.

2024.05.19 01:03 lxe 35M - lower back pain for 18 years - herniated disc(s). Thinking of my options.

I feel like I've always had lower back pain on and off ever since I experienced (what I thought was) a pulled muscle when I was around 17 while rowing. I'm 35 now, and the pain this year has been so bad at times that it would wake me up, and spread to my left buttock and leg.
I had to stop my running routine. I decided to get it checked. Turns out I have DDD and bulges/herniation at L5-S1 and L4-L5 which is tugging on a few of my nerves. The spine DR pointed out that due to bone growth on top of one of the bulges it seems that I've already experienced herniation in the past... I'm guessing 18 years ago.
I'm currently on daily Ibuprofen and doing regular PT stretches, foam rolling, and exercises. The pain is bothering me, is on and off, but I'm trying to see if PT helps. I have a toddler and another one on the way, so reducing lifting or prolonged rest is not really an option.
I have more X-rays and surgical consult scheduled, and I'm also considering steroid injections. I've been reading stories about microdiscectomy and ADR here, and I'm trying to judge if this is something for me to undertake.
Anyone experienced something similar? Any stories about the pain going away through PT and exercise alone? I don't want it to get worse and I would like to "fix" it (yes, I know it might not be that simple, but I want to find the best option for me).
Attaching a bunch of MRI and DR results.

35M - lower back pain for 18 years - herniated disc(s). Thinking of my options
New method
Instead of spending a lot on spray minoxidil, buy this and fill it with a one-month supply for just $8. It works great, targets all the necessary areas without spraying everywhere, and can be gently massaged into the right spots.

2024.05.19 00:36 grumbelz29 Moisturizing nasal spray?

PA here (not ENT though). I'm gonna use the analogy of eye drops to get my question across. For a long time, the common options for rewetting drops for dry eyes were either watery artificial tears, or thick gel drops; in my opinion, the tears would often only moisturize for a few minutes before the eyes would feel dry again, and the gels were way too thick and gunky. Now they have various middle ground options (like Refresh Relieva/Digital/Optive, Systane Complete, etc.) that are just slightly viscous enough to leave a longer-lasting moisture feeling.
So my question is, for nasal sprays for dry passages, I've also only seen either the watery ones (saline, etc.), or thick gels that are too gunky. Are there any sprays out there that are still sprays, but just a little more viscous like those eye drops?
Thanks!

2024.05.19 00:22 ememeemily Decongestant nasal spray?!

Guys, I caught a bad cold and had a really congested nose for the last 2 weeks. I was using a decongestant nasal spray to help me sleep and don’t know why I didn’t check if it was safe to use in pregnancy or not, (I just didn’t think it would be any kind of issue) but I’ve just read the label in a moment of ‘hey I should actually check that’ and it says not to use in pregnancy. Is baby going to be alright? Has anyone else used a decongestant nasal spray throughout pregnancy? I’ve googled and it says saline ones are fine, but not the type I’ve used. Now I’m really stressed 😖
