Kohler 48 RCLB ethernet connectivity

2024.05.19 20:16 jayword Kohler 48 RCLB ethernet connectivity

Installed in 2020. Have spent 4 years trying to get this connected. Works for 1 minute to 3 days, then disconnects until rebooted manually. First 2-3 years, I was not comfortable opening the generator so I would ask the service guys every 6 months to try to fix the Internet connection. They would reboot it and it would work again for 1-3 days. Then I got people to run a brand new CAT6 to the generator in case that was the issue. Over time, the service guys updated the firmware, swapped to a different RDC 2.4 controller entirely (which eventually also failed after 1-3 days), swapped back to mine, etc.
Today I brought a laptop out there and connected the exact same Ethernet cable from the generator to it. Ran iPerf3 back to a local server and verified 1 GB connectivity over 30 minutes. Even switching to UDP to check error rates, the error rate was 0%. The guys who installed this cable used high end cable testing equipment to verify it. There are 3 internet connections here in failover. There is no chance this is a connectivity issue. The service people say it must be the Internet or cable. They are good at fixing engines, but I'm a network person and that's just not the case.
Finally, gave up on service people ever fixing this. Called Kohler myself a couple weeks ago and they sent me firmware 3.4.5. Installed it. No change. Still fails usually within 5 minutes. If I cold-start (disconnect 2 cables on the back of RDC and reconnect), it usually is connected for up to 2 days. If I reboot from the menu, it connects for about 5 minutes. That's a mystery I have not solved. Why is a cold start more reliable than a menu reboot. Anyway, maybe just flukes.
So here I am 4 years later trying to get the simplest connectivity going. Recently had a massive power outage a few weeks ago. Really want to get this thing online for the future. I have seen several posts in the past here on this general topic, but not clear what the real consensus is. Does this dog just not hunt? It feels like this feature is not designed well. The PIN number reset cold start thing is very bad design. The unit used to be DHCP, but for precision during this process I have assigned it a static IP for the last year or so. If you go through the menus on the device, it says it is connected to Kohler even though on their app you can see it is not. This seems like such a trivial problem to solve in the firmware/software that I also assumed updating the firmware would surely fix it. Not the case apparently.
Does anyone have these working and if so what was the secret?

2024.05.19 20:06 Youshiru GTA V stutters and fps spikes

Hello, Linux noob here, I have only used it for just over 2 years and have mostly enjoyed my stay. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, I'm not sure how useful this tech-support request is. If it isn't, do you know any community where I can get help with this?
I've returned to GTA V as I haven't played in a couple of months, and the performance is often times abysmal in both story mode and online, getting these frame spikes. Often times as I did experience it a couple a days ago and suddenly the game ran fine yesterday (no system, driver or game updates). It seems to happen when I have played for a longer time but sometimes it's as soon as I start. It was much better months ago, story mode was good and well, online was worse but it didn't have these drops, only a bit lower fps.
Story mode
Online
My specs are:
Gigabyte x470 Gaming 5 Wifi
Ryzen 5 2600x
16 GB 3000 mhz CL15 (15-16-16) dual channel
GTX 1660 TI
Linux runs on a SSD, game on a separate one.
I have fiddled with the ingame graphics settings to no avail.
I'm on Nobara Linux 39 Gnome using X11, running the 6.8.7-201 kernel. I'm using the 550.67 driver. Tried downgrading but I was just getting a blank screen, nomodeset didn't work and I had to login on tty2 and install the latest driver through there again, tried 2 different older drivers.
Temps are good, no dust. No manual overclocks, only XMP and PBO enabled in bios.
Steam, ProtonGE 9-5. I have tried with Proton Experimental, and the latest Proton version, and some older versions. Weird issue started happening with GTA saying I'm not logged in, not sure if it had anything to do with changing Proton versions. Launch commands I use are gamemoderun and mangohud.
When the drops happen the GPU usage goes down the drain, I'm not sure if it's just general bad optimization on Rockstars part, a bad config, a driver issue, CPU or RAM bottleneck / issue. RAM seems to hover around 95-97% according to vitals gnome extensions, though I'm not sure how accurate it is, but get no crashes (not yet) so I'm not sure if it's RAM. Unused RAM is wasted right? I still ran Memtest86+ overnight with 9 passes, no errors.
Has anyone else these frame spikes. They are so annoying, and I'm at loss. I have contemplated a complete reinstall of Linux, but I can't bother with setting everything up again. It's hard for me to know if it's a software or hardware problem, or just a badly optimized game.
I appreciate any help or suggestions greatly :)

Edit: I just discovered that if i right click there is an install option, must be a new feature in W11 or something.. im leaving this post up for any other suggestions..

2024.05.19 19:40 granny-green-thumb Sprinkler Help

Sprinkler Help
I just bought a house that has an underground sprinkler system that was installed in 1979. Neighbors have confirmed it ran last year and sellers mentioned turning it on at closing.
The control box is in the garage, and there appears to be the main valve, a vacuum breaker, 3 underground valve boxes, and one of the rotating valve handles in a white pvc pipe in the front.
I have tried turning the vacuum breaker handles to be parallel with the pipes, turning on the main line, and turning all the valve handles in the boxes with a long metal key (I think that’s what it is called?) counterclockwise until they can’t be turned anymore.
Water appears to be coming out of the main valve slightly, and in other boxes, there has been some moisture, so I think some of the water is making it through? I also tried turning what I think are the solenoids (the black cylinders with wires connecting) to manually turn the sprinklers on.
I’ve tried the instructions for the Manual Program Cycle and Manual Valve according to the manual, and there are programs that have been set before.
I have had no luck in any of the sprinklers running. Does anyone have an ideas or tips? I’m hoping to avoid paying for an irrigation company to come out to start it up, but I am wondering if that’s the best option.

Help! Held by a psychopath (or how the hell to deal with Pluto)
My sun is at 1 degree and 38 minutes of Aquarious. All my life I have been healthy. Last year it was Pluto's first round over my sun, I had to go for full anesthesia operation to remove a myoma from my utherus and then wait until they tell me whether it's cancer or not to go to see my mother, we leave in different countries. She was undergoing chemo and radio after she was diagnosed with cancer and fighting a bunch of idiotic doctors. I did not have cancer, yay!
This march my mom got her cancer back. April's Eclipse was exactly conjunct my IC 😭😭😭 They told her that she is terminal and she has till the end of the year, next day I had to go for gastroendoscopy because of some stomach problems I have been having for more than half of year. They tell me it's most probably helicobacter pylori. In between I got the final results I managed to go to see my mum, but she would refuse any help I was trying to give her and she is totally depressed.
Back home I went for breast ecography, they have found some cysts and they hurt sometimes but they tell me I dont have to worry... 8th house cancer. Now I am bedridden with the f* pylori treatment and looking at my chart. Pluto won't let me be until 2027 and will pass my sun 3 times more, I will have Uranus trining my sun, Neptune and Saturn sextiling it. Is there any way how to deal with this energy? I feel really held by a psychopath that would hurt me as much as he can... I would even try Indian remedies, Catholic remedies, whatever 🤣😭😭

2024.05.19 18:42 Teton12355 How I fixed my computer's wifi and bt drivers and saved myself from scraping my new motherboard (ASUS TUF)

This is a dumb issue and stupidly simple solution but saved my ass as a newbie and I hope it saves others in the future. I could not use update my drivers on a fresh Windows 11 install and I had no wifi options in my settings to begin with and therefore could not connect to the internet, any manual installs I did via USB gave me the error "Does not support this Operating System: WNT_10.0P_11_64". I got this error for any driver even after unzipping. I was at my wits end and all advice I got on the issue was that my motherboard was defective on my first and also high end build :(((. In a random un-upvoted comment I can no longer find buried under comments about people getting rid of their new motherboards someone said they simply
((((unzipped the correct driver to their desktop using winrar and ran it as admin))))
This works!!!! I hope anyone finding this post from a google search tries this and saves themselves countless hours of pointless repair or staring at a bios screen in dismay.
Edit: Scrapping (lol)

2024.05.19 18:38 popdog_ Fabric doesnt load mods 1.20.6

So im trying to use fabric and iris with some other mods. When I install iris+fabric loader with iris's own installer everything works fine. However when I put other mods in (.iris-installer\Iris-Sodium-1.20.6.zip\mods) and start the game, it doesnt actually load those other mods. I checked everything, downloaded every needed file, even did a clean reinstall for the minecraft launcher, but nothing helped. Basically i can use iris, but not the fabric loader, and it feels like a vanilla game. I tried using only the fabric loader and putting in the mods manually and that doesnt work either.
I am on 1.20.6 and using forge or other mod loaders work fine. What am i doing wrong?

2024.05.19 18:20 Koebi_p Does windows just force updates now even though you are clearly still active?

Windows 11. 3 days ago.
I was working on a document in Microsoft word among other things. Didn’t save the document when I was working, which was my fault. Luckily it kept a copy.
Out of nowhere, as I am still using my PC, it restarted itself. And a message saying something similar to “windows is updating”, couldn’t remember as I was very annoyed.
It is not in sleep mode, it is not locked, “Get the latest” option is disabled. I was still using the mouse not even a minute ago. It is in the middle of the day (4pm), my active hours is from 10AM to 4AM. There is no prompts, no BSOD. It just restarts itself even though it was not supposed to.
I am 100% certain it is a windows update as it showed up in update history as “2024-05 Cumlative Update for windows 11 version 23H2 for x64-based systems”. The event viewer reads “TrustedInstaller.exe has initiated the restart of computer….. for the following reason: Operating System: Upgrade (Planned)” at 4:43:11 PM, well within my “active hours”.
As a bonus the update is a bad one and my graphics card driver failed 4 times in an hour after the update which is thankfully fixed manually. And it broke Chrome, discord web, google itself (capcha) does not work anymore, Firefox still works fine though.
Good job Microsoft.

RAM: 8GB DDR4
I am currently mining on an rx580 8GB and an RTX 3070 without any issues. My friend gave me a GTX 1080, GTX 1080 TI and an RTX 2080 for a good price. I have read here: https://www.reddit.com/buildapc/comments/quvvya/can_i_run_a_3070_and_1080_to_use_separately_on/
that it should be possible to run them together for mining without a problem.
I have all the cards on PCIe riser. 4 of the risers are connected to a small PCIe slot, and one is installed in a normal PCIe slot.
I installed them and manually installed the drivers for each card from the official Nvidia site. Somehow, none of the 3 newly installed cards showed up in the device manager. The RX 580 and RTX 3070 still run fine. The other cards also turn on, the fans spin, the riser has a green light etc, so everything should work.
I have tried the things from here (Not using any splitters like OP in post):
https://www.reddit.com/minerstat/comments/qjftev/multiple_gpus_not_detected/
Somehow, when i want to boot into BIOS, the video doesnt get transmitted. Tried connectng to MOBO or GPU with 2 monitors.
I have tried to put the riser with the working 3070 into the main PCIe slot, but that didnt change a thing.
I dont understand what he meant exactly with: "msOS not responsible for detecting your GPUs, drivers doing that doing POST boot.". So i didn't try that.
Thanks for your help.

2024.05.19 18:06 soundofmatt Tips needed for 130C gas-powered string trimmer

Hi everybody, hopefully y'all can point me in a better direction, Just bought a brand new 130C string trimmer, used it for the first time today. Started right up, ran smoothly, not too heavy, so not bad. BUT: I'm lucky to get 2 minutes before the trimmer head loses its line. Every time, I have to stop, disassemble, rewind, reset, and start again. Added probably 10 minutes to my 30 minute yardwork. In the sun. This is light work too, I'm not wacking any trees here. Grrrr.
This is with the factory-installed smooth gray line, which was wound very poorly on the head. Lots of crossovers and loops. Rewinding tightly and smoothly didn't seem to help though ... it still lost line after a couple of minutes. The kindergarten-level pictographs in the users manual are fairly useless, even down to the "which direction to I wind the line" level.
Is this a "replace the head" situation? There are lots of after-market options out there. But geez.

2024.05.19 17:52 starfishsea4 Mike’s Tree Removal?

So, we recently purchased a home in South County (Richmond) and have several problem trees on the property that we would like to get taken care of. I did some research online & on this forum and saw a ton of comments to stay AWAY from Mikes Tree Removal along with tons of bad Yelp/Google reviews.
So - can anyone who has had firsthand experience with them/him please tell me why? My husband called them (unbeknownst to me) while shopping for quotes and apparently they are the only company that can fit us into their schedule in the next 3 weeks (I haven’t spoken with any other companies so I don’t know what their timeframes are, but my husband has). Mike apparently walked the property (we weren’t there & cameras aren’t installed yet - we are still in escrow on the sale of our current home, which is my deceased in laws house and we are still occupying it) and came up with a verbal estimate he provided my husband. Nothing in writing. Husband told him he wanted to hold off until we had a few more estimates on board.
My husband didn’t know I had come across them in my research, he just called numbers from Google at random. So I’m just looking for some firsthand experiences/accounts with Mikes so we can make an informed decision. My gut is telling me to stay away at all costs, but my husband is a “golden retriever” guy & puts a ton of blind trust/faith into people. This is our first home & our forever home and I don’t want to get fucked. We are young ‘white collar’ professionals and I feel like that screams “suckers” or unknowledgable when it comes to any manual/physical/typical blue collar labor stuff… and makes us more apt to be taken advantage of. Our tile guy and our pool guy completely fucked us on prices & we stupidly and unknowingly paid, so I’m going into this jaded and ready to fight back/negotiate if need be.

2024.05.19 17:27 Hagbard_Celine_1 Adding an outdoor plug for an above ground pool pump+ maybe a lighting circuit

Hi guys! Former "electrician" here. I use the "" because I was classed as a journeyman pay scale with the company I worked for. I was never certified but I did take apprenticeship courses at one point. I have about 4y experience but it's been 20y since I worked in the field. Im now in the medical field and enjoy my nice indoor work 😅
The pump I have is a 120v 1.5HP Aquapro 2speed. It comes with an attached ~4ft cord w/ three prong male end and all the instructions say is "min 16awg for 40 meters, min 14awg for 65 meters install according to local laws." Pump specs attached in the pic but it's 3.5A 1725/min at low speed and 8.5A 3450/min at high speed.
My plan is just to run 2x (1 lighting circuit and 1 pool pump circuit) 12awg Romex from my main indoor panel through the attic into a PVC box w/ Romex connector. From the PVC box I'll nipple a 3/4 PVC pipe through the soffit to another box outside mounted just under the soffit. I'll pipe the pump circuit down to receptacle height where I'll have my receptacle and bubble cover. I'll bring the lighting circuit out of the side of the high mounted box for floodlights or some kind of lighting mounted to the wall of the house. The run is well under 200ft so I don't think voltage drop will be an issue.
My main question is GFCI protection and proper grounding.
Should I use GFCI breakers for both circuits? If so I'm assuming I don't need a GFCI plug for the pump? I haven't priced breakers in forever so would a regular breaker and GFCI plug have me covered as well? Can I just use a regular receptacle with "GFCI protected" sticker if I go with a GFCI breaker? I was probably just going to stick with 15 amp breakers for both circuits.
The motor manual also says "connect a no. 8awg solid copper wire to the pressure wire connector provided on the motor housing and to all metal parts of the swimming pool..."
Looking at the motor I can see the ground terminal and a tag that says to use an 8ft grounding rod. Seems pretty straightforward. I'd just use some solid 8awg and the ground rod equipment. I've done this before but it's been years so if anyone has any specifics to be aware of id appreciate it.
Here is a link to the pool. Best I can tell it has some coated steel components but mostly everything is resin.
I'm curious what everyone thinks if this plan and if anyone has any further insight or recommendations? I'm working on putting together the pool base today so any replies will probably be in the evening. Thanks!

2024.05.19 17:17 Sysadmin247365 Eliminate the delay (remote desktop rights message) when logging into an azure/intune enrolled hyper-v machine

I am testing the configuration of multi-user machines by running virtual machines in hyper-v.
When I log in I get a screen with the message "To sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If the group you're in doesn't have this right, or if the right has been removed from the Remote Desktop Users group, you need to be granted this right manually."
If I do nothing for about 2 minutes this screen goes away and I am given the normal windows logon screen, and everything works as expected.
Steps taken:
  1. Spin up the hyper-v machine as Windows 11.
  2. Log on as a local administrator.
  3. Install and run the get-windowsautopilotinfo script using the -online switch
  4. After the machine is enrolled in autopilot, run systemreset
  5. Log on with a user who is assigned a Microsoft 365 Business Premium (no teams) account
The machine is enrolled in Intune as expected, everything seems to be working except for that original error message that goes away by itself.
If I logout and back in there are no issues.
If I shut down/power off the hyper-v machine then after entering the username/password I get the message about the Remote Desktop Users group, with the same behavior - wait about 2 minutes and the message clears itself and lets me log in as normal.
