After moving I soon need to sell my laser cutter.
It is one where I do not have any rand name at hand - all red and black, 500x700mm working area, RDWorks with small compressor for air assist and a circulation pump that I put in a tank underneath with some cooling liquid (pink stuff that won't freeze at -20°C.
The thing is - I do not have the back cover anymore - in its place there is a wooden board and 4 230V AC Fans venting the work area. Additionally the RD controller inside had a clear plastic cover over the display that got a tear when some acrylic dropped on it and I needed to cut it out - so the buttons are covered, but the display sits there unprotected.
I also have an additionaly controller for 1 axis since I planned to switch between the current one and an additional one with the relay cause I needed to change settings all the time for a rotary equipment.
It does great work, but for a hobbyist it's a quite heavy machine and since I never thought about selling it before - I did not worry tinkering on it.
What could one still expect from a possible buyer? I mean I can not send it somewhere - it would be pick up only. The machine works great, but it's of courese something that has a limited buyer base and one would need to have the possibilties to transport it.
Any ideas what would be reasonable? I of course assume nothing close to the original 1750 € I paid 4 years ago - but also have no idea what would be fair.
Anyone with experience in selling or buying used machine can give me some direction?

Heads have 1.6 exhaust and 2.05 intake valves, comp hydraulic rollers 620 lift camshaft with comp springs, retainers and 1.6 ratio rockers, victor single plane intake, brand new 770 carburetor with vacuum secondary’s pro cold case aluminum radiator, msd pro billet distributor and msd ignition box and big coils, Brand new quick fuel 215 lph fuel pump and pressure regulator. There’s about $15k in the motor alone from oil pan to carburetor. What you all think? |

In March 1994, I was a 19 year old airman. Me and a coworker were sitting on a picnic table smoking on our break. We hear a loud crack and look up and see two F-16s, one sideways and one level in the sky over the flight line with two ejected pilots. We hear the crash and start running towards the flight line to try to help anyone that was injured. Someone came running towards us screaming a word that I assumed was a chemical in jet fuel that would kill us so we ran away in the opposite direction. I was so discombobulated that when I got in my car and tried to drive off base that I couldn’t remember how to exit. I ended up where officer housing was and stayed there with the windows up and the air off for hours. That was the first day I drank liquor. Got my buddy to go to class 6 for me. What was a traumatic experience is just a “you’re good buddy” to the VA because I never sought MH treatment for it in 30 years. You witness 23 deaths at once but it’s alright (pats head). I say this to say please seek the help that you need even if you think that you’re good. The VA is a business just like Amazon.

So for context, I'm not from the US, but I've had the feeling for a long time that I can't really resonate with characters in newer American sitcoms.
In a sitcom such as Friends, while the characters are obviously heightened for comedic effect, they still feel like real adults with real feelings. This is even the case with more overacted and heightened shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The characters feel grounded, aside from the more goofy plotlines, and you can emphatise with them and see the world from their perspectives.
However with newer sitcoms, it feels like the characters are caricatures with the emotional capacity and restraint of children, all acting in these strange fake worlds. A couple of examples would be The US Office (esp after season 3), Parks and Recreation, Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother. While I do enjoy the humor in many of these shows, the characters don't feel at all relatable, and bear little resemblance to the actual people I know and interact with in my everyday life. This is only really the case for me with American sitcoms, as I can still resonate with characters in newer Danish, Norwegian and UK series.
I genuinely don't know whether this is the result of different styles, a different philosophy of acting or more overall shifts in American culture, but the feeling of "fakeness" is very much real to me. It might just be me, but I would be interested to hear if any of you have had similar feelings, and I would enjoy hearing perspectives from both non-Americans and Americans.
Edit: I don't mean that their economic situations or opportunities in life were more real before. In fact, newer US sitcoms seem much more willing to deal with personal financial struggles that aren't simply laughed off. The feeling is related to the behaviour and emotional responses of the characters, which do feel more real to me.

My wife and I went walking on the trails off Anderson rd and Mer Bleu Bog as we often do and it got me thinking. The NCC kept trails open and they were a great way to get exercise during the first year of COVID. We walked many times a week there.
Contrast this with the City of Ottawa that closed everything and ticketed people walking in parks and even went so far as to close outdoor farmers’ markets in favour of Costco. It seems to me the NCC was much more aware of the importance of fresh outdoor air and exercise while the City took a complete opposite approach. I am wondering why there was such a difference. The NCC approach must have been awfully daring looking back now. I would like to hear if anyone knows why such a difference?
