2024.05.07 15:01 aznpersuazion Why Vancouver has THE BEST FOOD IN NORTH AMERICA

Alright, buckle up because we're diving into why Vancouver's food scene is straight-up legendary. Forget the regular city vibes; Vancouver is a melting pot of flavors, a culinary carnival that beats anything else in North America. Join me on this personal quest to unravel why the combo of Asian influence, Pacific Northwest goodness, and chill dining vibes makes Vancouver the top pick for foodies.
Asian Culinary Delights: Tradition and Creativity Unleashed
Vancouver's streets resonate with the aromas of traditional Asian dishes, prepared with a touch of authenticity that transports you across borders. Picture slurping savory ramen in Chinatown or savoring hand-pulled noodles in a cozy corner of East Van. But what makes Vancouver's Asian food scene truly exceptional is its fusion of tradition with modern creativity.
In this city, innovation meets tradition on a plate. Take, for instance, squid ink brioche with sea urchin pâté – a daring yet harmonious blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of culinary expectations. Vancouver's chefs are culinary artists, creating dishes that not only pay homage to traditional recipes but also elevate them into extraordinary, palate-pleasing experiences.
And let's not forget the matcha mochi croissants that have taken the city by storm. A fusion of Japanese mochi and French croissants, these delectable pastries are a testament to Vancouver's culinary diversity. Each bite is a dance of textures and tastes, showcasing the city's flair for seamlessly blending cultures and cuisines.
Pacific Northwest's Grocery List: Seafood Galore and More
Living next to the Pacific Ocean is like having a seafood aisle in your backyard. Fresh salmon, sweet Dungeness crab, and chubby spot prawns – Vancouver's seafood game is on point. And let's not forget the local veggies and meats, straight from the region's green landscapes. It's like nature’s way of saying, "Hey, enjoy the good stuff!"
Nature Vibes: Dining with a View
Vancouver's layout is like a dating app for food and nature; they're a match made in heaven. Whether you're brunching in a leafy neighborhood or devouring seafood with an ocean panorama, the city serves up an Instagrammable backdrop for every meal. Picture this: a patio, a breeze, and the scent of fir trees – eating out just got a whole lot cooler.
Neighborhood Chronicles: Culinary Adventures Off the Beaten Path
Downtown is cool, but venture out, and you'll hit foodie gold. Commercial Drive's eclectic spots or Richmond's legit Asian flavors – Vancouver's neighborhoods are like culinary treasure maps. Each area has its own flavor story, tempting you to be the food explorer you were born to be.
Conclusion
Vancouver isn't just a city with good food; it's a food fiesta waiting to happen. The Asian vibes, the Pacific Northwest's goodies, and the city's chill connection with nature make dining here a full-blown experience. Vancouver isn't just North America's food champion; it's a vibe, a journey through flavors, and a big, fat stamp on your foodie passport. So, next time you're craving a culinary adventure, Vancouver's got your back, fork, and knife.

2024.05.07 14:42 Rukania The heart-wrenching true story of the Doll Man of Nazino Island

*Please note this is a documentation about true historical events and people. Some details are disturbing and reader discretion is advised. Most of the information surrounding this event is still confidential due to the brutality of the events. The diary extracts and accounts used were gained with next of kin consent.*
May 1933. Just off of the Ob River in West Siberia, in the Soviet Union - one of the most horrific ordeals in human history would take place.
6700 Russian prisoners were deported to Nazino Island, a small island in the middle of the harsh Siberian wilderness. They were sent there (under instruction of Stalin) and ordered to construct a "special settlement". They were told they had to cultivate the island, using minimal equipment or agricultural knowledge, the deportees were abandoned with only scant supplies of flour for food, little to no tools, and virtually none of the clothing or shelter necessary to survive. Guards would patrol the 3km coast of the island by boat, killing any one that tried to escape instantly. Many on the island would starve to death, freeze or be murdered by other prisoners. The Nazino project would only run for around 3 months, yet of the 6700 that arrived - only around 2000 would leave. They left with trauma, scars and mental pain that would never leave them - but most harrowingly - of a story as well. A story of one man in particular who became an urban legend on the island, Kukla Chelovek, the Doll Man.
Alexander Spivaknov was only 22-years old when he was sent to Nazino Island. He had been arrested for theft in St Petersburg in 1932 - and a year later found himself on the train to Western Siberia.
Petr and Valentina Malyshova, an older couple who worked as a teacher and a butcher respectively, who lived by the Ob River. In May 1933, they were caught harbouring an early escapee of the island in their barn - and were ordered to return to the island alongside the prisoner.
Vladimir Berezovgy was a 29-year old guard on the island. He was ordered to guard the island upon the beginning of the project in May 1933.
Vladimir, Valentina and Alexander were the only of the 6000+ people on Nazino Island to record a diary of their experiences in this hell (that could be found as of 2023). Their documentations show us the true horror and terror that anyone unfortunate enough to be in this place would suffer. The following is an accumulation of selected relevant entries from all three, that paints the picture of Nazino Island and the Doll-Man it’s evil nature spawned. These entries will be shown as an English translation.
Vladimir Berezovgny (guard) , Entry 1, 12th May 1933:
We finally tracked the escaped prisoner today. We saw the man swimming across the river late last night, my general ordered for me to fire at him but it was too dark to see anything, we watched his silhouette crawl to the bank and run off into the dark forest. The general was furious, screamed so loud at us on the boat - likely the whole island heard his yells. We searched all through the night, but the darkness aided his escape. We began to theorise he’d have died of hypothermia due to these freezing temperatures, but the search continued. We found him this morning, in an old couples barn. He had a fresh blanket around him and a bowl of food, it was obvious they’d been sheltering him purposely.
She was a teacher I believe? Both in their 40’s. Maybe 50’s - I didn’t get the details myself. He was a butcher for the local village, they may struggle with a lack of animal produce for a while…I suppose that’s the villages problem now. They were a nice couple, very cooperative, but rules are rules and they had to be taken to Nazino alongside the escaped one.
Valentina Malyshova (teacher) , Entry 1, 13th May 1933:
I’ve always tried to be a loving woman. For my husband Petr, for the children of my class, but this place is draining me. I do not regret my actions, nor do I hold that poor man accountable. I would feed and shelter him 100 times over if I could. My poor Petr warned me against it however, and I worry he will attribute the hell we have been sent to as being my fault. That he will never forgive me.
He acts like he is fine, but I can tell he is not. He worries for me greatly, the men on the island look at any woman like they are a pack of wolves. I’ve seen my first dead body this morning. It looks like a young man, beaten to death, over food I would imagine.
I write this not as a journal, but more as a last letter. I am not sure of how long I will survive here, Petr I love you. My children in the school, I love you too.
Alexander Spivaknov (prisoner), Entry 1, 15th May 1933:
I have not had a chance to write yet. We have been here 6 days. I would say 200 deaths already. Many died on the train over, from the cold. Some have had illness and died in their sleep. They are the lucky ones I think.
I have made a small shelter in the wooded area. There are groups of people around me too. Not enough room for all of us here. Hunger is settling in for many , not a scrap to eat for about a week. More like 2 or 3 weeks in most cases. I had a bowl of soup before we left St Petersburg , and I still feel my stomach eating itself. The women on the island have already started to sell their bodies for what food there is , small rodents that have been caught or berries. Some women are even being pimped out by the more vicious men on the island, food is now currency, the guards look on doing nothing. Humanity has abandoned us.
Valentina Malyshkova (teacher), Entry 2, 20th May 1933:
I worry a lot now. Not as much as Petr, however. He spends most nights awake completely. A lot of the men on the island have started pimping out the women. If they say no, they do as they please anyway.
I think they may even be eating them!
Petr guards me all the time, he sees how the men look at me. I am not sure how much longer we can survive here - if this journal gets out - please end help!
I love you Petr. I love you kids.
Vladimir Berezgovny (guard) , Entry 2, 24th May 1933:
We were forced to kill more attempted escapees these last few days. I shot two men and one woman, but that is not even the most harrowing events that have happened recently. Murders have gone up on the island, lots of them we can only theorise are motivated by robbery of food. We’re ordered not to intervene - it is their own society.
There is something lurking on the island at night too. One of the prisoners we suspect, we shine lights at him - but the tree line seems to cover him fairly well. Unsure so far if he is responsible for the murders or if they’re the gangs that seem to have formed.
Alexander Spivaknov (prisoner), Entry 2, 26th May 1933:
There is a monster on this island. I thought I had seen the worst of humanity. I was wrong.
We hear screams most of the nights we’ve been here. That’s normal. But what happened last night was harrowing. Mere metres from my shelter - amongst the trees - I heard meat being cut. I kept quiet but maintained by interest. I could hear various squishes and squelches of what sounded like an animal being carved.
This lasted a few hours. By morning when I thought the coast was clear, I investigated. It was no animal. A man, early 30s maybe - although it was hard to tell - it was hard to tell as he had no skin. He’d been completely skinned, just his red flesh being exposed. He was hung up on one of the trees, ropes tied around each of his wrists about 6m up in the air.
His pale, tattooed skin was displayed next to him like a flag. A banner almost.
I don’t know what monsters have been made by this island to be capable of doing something like this. But I cannot believe it.
Vladimir Berezgovny (guard), Entry 3, 30th May 1933:
It gets worse every day. The prisoners have now started calling this monster the doll man. This is the 5th ‘display’ he has made now.
He kills other prisoners on the island. Usually gang-affiliated prisoners, typically fit males. He skins them - presumably dead - before displaying them tied up in the tree line. He displays their skin too - almost as a warning.
Some of the prisoners have started making up stories about him - calling him the doll man - it’s caught on amongst us guards too. They say he makes these men his dolls, as he is lonely on the island. Nothing is confirmed and we have no suspects - we are not instructed to conduct an investigation anyway. Probably for the best - none of the guards would dare step off the boat.
The Kukla Chelovek (doll man) quickly became a legend - not just on Nazino island - but all around Russia after the horrors of the island got out. One of his ‘dolls’ is still preserved in a museum in Saint Petersburg.
Many have theorised on which of the prisoners could be capable of this atrocity. Some speculated it was a gang, due to the gang-affiliated nature of the victims. Others thought he could be a serial killer from one of the prisons, that had decided this was the chance to continue some of his work. But there is one theory that has presented itself very recently, and it relies on the final entry from Valentina Malyshova’s diary. Please note, the handwriting of this entry did not match that of any of the other entries.
Valentina Malyshova (?), Entry 2, 22nd May 1933:
Cannibalism. Eating the flesh of a fellow human. She never deserved to be here, it was her kind heart that got her here.
They assaulted her - in so many different ways - and forced me to watch. Then they left nothing else of her. Cannibals. Monsters.
Monsters breed monsters. Hell spawns demons. Death would be a sweet escape for them now. For anyone here. So they will be immortalised, as my toys. Immortalised to warn any of the other monsters here that the devil lurks among them. I suppose, skinning a human will be no different to skinning a pig. Not that they’re worth more than a pig anyway.
I love you Valentina.

2024.05.07 14:22 Dependent-End-8841 Post removed (mold advice)

Just needing to know if we have mold in our house. We've noticed the inside of the vents and see a lot of black stuff I'm thinking it's mold but not 100% so I put in maintenance request for someone to come look at it for mold and they sent in worker yesterday who says he put some kind of spray in our ac vents and he said " that'll kill what ever is in there". I asked will they be testing for mold and he said no. I told him how can we get it tested he said the owner will have to decide if he wants to pay to get it tested. I said can you ask with your management company and he said he'll mention it to them to see if the owner wants to. I want to know if has mold. 1 my children are having health issues. My eldest is 10 and has been having tonsil issues since we've moved in 2 years ago,he continues to have episodes of tonsilitis. He has an allergy to mold. We just got discharged last night he has been in the hospital admitted since Friday May 3rd,2024. His tonsils got so inflamed he was having breathing problems due to his thriat closing up and he had too eaten much in 4 or 5 days. He was doing bad and that was the 2nd ER visit in 1 week (first ER Doctor didnt give him the correct antibiotics and he got worst. Not only that my 1 yo has had a bad cough and wheezing since he was 3mos old in 2023. I thought at first my 1yo has an allergy to carpets and we have one in our room, so I had reached to the management company and I told them if there's a chance they can remove the carpet from my room ,my little one has had a cough that don't away ,he had to be seeing a pulmonologist for his lungs, so it may be the carpet. I told them that 2mos ago and the office never got back to me even after she said for us to send her a picture of the carpet and my husband did that and sent it to her office phone. I'm thinking that they didn't care for that either and I'm not even thinking it's the carpet it may just be the mold also. What should I do? And if the worker didn't think there was mold then why would he spray something to "kill whatever is in there" as he put it. Should I write a certified letter requesting they get the house tested? My husband is afraid their gonna kick us out. For 1 we had another baby and only 2 bedroom so 5 ppl is too many for the house (2 heartbeats beats per room) and 2 our lease is up for renewal in June,if they find mold they won't renew our lease due to having to remodel it just for us being problematic. And then we'll be out on the streets with a newborn, a 1yo and 10yo. What do I do? We don't want to leave the place we were gonna renew for another year anyways, but if it has mold can it be cleaned n we'll do another year, we're saving to buy a house.

2024.05.07 14:04 JaydenBuchanan A snippet of the superhero AU I'm working on

Alejandro (better known as Flame) sat down next to Katie. The accident had caused several injuries to her. He felt terrible that he hadn't been in the area sooner. He noticed she was waking up so he grabbed the painkillers and the water sitting next to her. "Where am I?" she whispered as she woke up. "You're in a room," Alejandro joked. "I can see that," Katie said, smiling lightly. "What made you run out into the streets?" He asked, sitting down. "I had to go get help," Katie said, telling him everything. Sierra (Explosivio) and Dawn (Moonchild) walked in, both girls staring at Alejandro. "Is she okay?" Dawn whispered. "She's fine," He assured a smile on his face.
Meanwhile, Sadie and the others had stopped. "Another dead end, at this point I think he's messing with us," Duncan said. "What gave it away?" Courtney asked, sitting down on a rock. "Well, what are we going to do?" Geoff asked. "Where's Bridgette?" DJ asked looking. "She went back, said it was useless to try and escape from a villain, she had the right idea," Tyler said, stretching. Harold pulled out his sketchbook, drawing another picture of their captor. "Oh the things I would do to him if I was given the chance," He said to Eva, who nodded. Ezekiel caught up to the group, "Guys, Katie was hit by a car!" He panted, sitting next to Courtney. "WHAT?" Sadie shouted, rushing to his side. "Yeah, she went out the front door to buy us some time and her legs gave out and then a car hit her," He said, not willing to look Sadie in the eyes. "Hey, it's okay, Katie will be fine," Eva said, stroking Sadie's back. Sadie felt tears fill in her eyes. "Whenever I get my hands on our captor, I'll make him pay," She said, her voice colder than ice. "Oh, hey guys, what did I miss?" Bridgette asked, walking up to them. "Where were you?" Duncan asked her. "I was looking for other exits, can't seem to find any," She said. "What made you come back?" Duncan asked, pulling out his pocket knife, and pressing Bridgette against the wall. "Whoa, watch where you point that!" She joked, sitting down on the ground.

Is it possible to combine my Grandpa with my son?
I know this might be difficult or impossible. But my grandpa's murderer recently got denied parole, praise. He never got to meet my son, his future grandson, not even my baby sister. My little sister doesn't even remember him. He's been gone over 20 years. We miss him, and my Grammy. But mothers day is coming up and I'd love to have a picture of him with my son. The baby in the photo with him is my lil sister. I promise she won't be offended to be photoshopped out. But is it possible to put him and my son together? Replacing my lil sister?

2024.05.07 12:45 Glacial_Shield_W Amongst the Stones

Fire and brimstone,
Alas, Rome is overthrown.
The White Wraith is dead,
His unblemished cloak painted red.
They have overcome the walls,
The city is razed, overcome by Imperial Thralls.
The flames char our sacred space,
This is the final throes of the once proudest race.
The Gods' breath comes in the form of fog,
The streets are dampened and blind, as if in a bog.
No chance for artillery,
No champion will come from the auxiliary.
Aid will not come,
Caution meets defiance, and this is the sum.
Another entrenched garison burns,
The flow of their advance ebs and turns..
Fall back,
There is no chance to defend against this attack.
Panic and disgrace,
It's written on the Resistance's face.
Orphans to the blade,
Revenge's price will be paid.
Forward they creep,
From the bridge, the innocent leap.
As the blood fills the River Tiber,
Rome is desecrated, to her very fiber.
They rape and murder fleeing nuns,
They slaughter, even as the populace runs.
They must pay for their barbarity,
Let that Justice guide you to blissful clarity.
We mustn't falter,
Buy Him time, as he speaks to the Sacred One from the Alter.
Amongst the dead,
Is where we shall make our bed.
Stand tall brother,
Give your life for another.
He prays for our salvation,
He prays for our nation.
I beg you now, hold your ground,
Our Saint makes flight, even as our End is found.
Hold faith in your creed,
On our oath, we must bleed.
The Church mustn't fall,
One last time, we must answer her call.
Stand against the brutality,
Rail against this engulfing finality.
For the honour of the Swiss,
May they feel your sword's kiss.
These Germanic bastards do not belong here,
Make our intentions clear, even as they draw near.
Outnumbered,
Unfaltering, even as our lives are sundered and our homes are plundered.
Prepare yourself for the sacrifice,
Even as They close in, as a vice.
We are the Shield,
They must destroy, to take this Field.
Trampled and pressed upon others' graves,
Die thinking of the souls our action saves.
A bitter brawl,
Lives given, only to stall.
To the Basilica, to our fate,
Face Their wrath, face their hate.
Steady your grip,
Even as your life blood continues to drip
Bring them low,
Even as They overthrow.
Cling to your vow,
It all ends, in the here and now.
To the narrow pass,
To the sounds of steel and brass.
To the tune of my weeping wife,
One last blade to fall, to end my strife.
Oblivion and eternity,
To my eternal serenity.
To no tomorrow,
To the Plague that will bring their sorrow.
To the damnation of these traitorous wretches,
These villains who would bring babes to their blades' edges.
To the chiming of the Bell,
To the poisoning of their well.
I hand my eternal glory to the salvation of our Pope,
I gave my all, for your continued Hope.
Believe, Oh faithful, that the Vatican will rise again,
The Miraculous cannot be slayed by the hands of Man.

2024.05.07 12:41 Adventurous_Remote28 Do I have to invite my SIL/Ex-Best Friend?

My fiancés sister in law was my best friend growing up. There was always a concerning power dynamic that my friends and family pointed out from the very beginning, but I ignored it. I realize now after years of therapy that it was an emotionally abusive friendship- commenting on my weight and what I ate, what I wore, pressured me into sharing things that she would then go tell everyone around us, and, in the beginning of my relationship with my fiancé, tried to set me up with this guy (who my fiancé knows mind you) at a bar telling him I want him and I’m single etc. We got in a massive fight that night because of this that resulted in me saying I’d just Uber home (i remember feeling so powerful when I didn’t cave to her gaslighting). She calls me two hours later with a popped tire, and I went to help her and got her a tow. We made up due to the circumstance, but shortly after got in another blow out fight that resulted in her reaching out to me telling me she was ending her relationship with her then boyfriend now husband (my fiancés brother) and was feeling really depressed. I dropped everything to be there for her….turns out they never even discussed breaking up and I realize now maybe it was a ploy to get me to forgive her? Idk just strange.
Fast forward the friendship completely ends- it is a VERY long story for another time but when I cut her off completely and set some hard boundaries, she quite literally flew to LA where MY best high school friends lived and convinced them of a ridiculous narrative full of lies I have concrete proof to disprove. They believed her and I haven’t spoken to them in a couple of years. She continued to spread this narrative among our shared family, friends, MY family (grew up on same street), even damn strangers on Facebook. It led to two/three years of very bad depression, isolation, loneliness, etc. I can look back and be grateful now because this experience made me realize I need to grow a back bone and stop with the people pleasing- it also showed me as clear as day who my friends really were.
All of this to ask this question: Do I have to invite her to my wedding? I wasn’t invited to her wedding with my fiances brother, in fact she planned it on my brother’s birthday (the same birthday weekend she has known for over a decade my family spends together on the beach). I’ve tried to “be the bigger person” throughout this entire conflict, but honestly I don’t want someone at my wedding who walked all over me for years. I’m honestly terrified she’ll be sitting there with her phone out taking pictures and sending them to my old friends to make fun of. Her and my fiancé do NOT get along in the slightest, but of course he loves his brother and wants him to be a groomsmen. He does not want her at the wedding at all, and doesn’t seem like he’ll budge, but I’m really worried that she’ll use this as another way to paint me as a bad person. Plus, I don’t want my MIL to think I’m being immature. I don’t know what to do here but I do know that I’ll have a hard time focusing on my wedding if she’s there. Even typing this out makes me wicked anxious she’ll somehow see it and take what friends I have left.
Thoughts? Advice?

This is a weird kfc. There’s 3 floors but floor one and two are squished together so if you’re tall you hit the ceiling really easily.

2024.05.07 11:06 Unhappy-Progress-690 Spirit / Entity wearing a veil was watching me sleep

I'm typing this right after it happened. It’s currently 2:40 am, and I woke up about 5-6 minutes ago. I don’t have a close relationship with my mother or father, but I live with them.
I dreamt about being down the street from my house, tornados forming right in front of me, one after the other, attacking me then vanishing. It was terrifying seeing a tornado form so quickly, then come at me, getting bigger and bigger. The only thing I could do was hold onto a street sign so it wouldn’t pick me up. The eerie screeching noise of the wind while in the tornado made the dream even more terrifying.
When I made it home, my parents were there. My mom asked me, “Are you going to cut your hair?” (Currently, in real life, my hair is at its longest I’ve ever had it.) I replied, “Yeah, I probably will.” She then tried to cut my hair, but she gave me a bad haircut and scalped parts of my hair. Furious and upset, I grabbed a pickaxe and destroyed her iPhone and her favorite door (our front door). Then I ran inside my room, crying. My dad asked her what happened, and when my mom explained, I overheard my dad say, “That's why he doesn’t open up to you, because you don’t try to understand him. I don’t blame him for reacting this way.” Then my mom said, “He’s always violent.” My dad went inside our house, and that's when I came outside my room, shaking, emotional, and embarrassed.
He then asked me, “What’s wrong, mijo?” I went up to him and hugged him as I cried, taking in one of those quick breaths while sobbing (they are called globus sensation). I took in one of those quick breaths as I caught myself waking up, almost like if I was sleep-talking but sobbing. As I woke up on my back, facing the top wall, I saw a woman staring down at me. My chest sunk out of fear. She was wearing a veil over her head like the Virgin Mary, but her face had a statue-like expression of disgust. I didn’t freeze up; I had a fight-or-flight moment and grabbed one of my pillows to hit her, but my pillow just ended up hitting the wall behind her. After that, her face faded out right in front of me (like a Polaroid picture developing) with the same expression of disgust.
The picture I provided is what resembles the expression she had on her face.

2024.05.07 11:03 KJR200 I don't understand

Seiko shows herself to be an overprotective mother and then strangely becomes murderous as she pushes Shigure off a cliff, and then shows her pathological interest in Seiichi, going so far as to tear up his love letter and kiss him. Then she talks about her loneliness, which is strange. How can she feel lonely when she has a son and a family, especially since Cici is always by her side? She goes to the point of trying to strangle seiichi, why is that, and then she talks about being trapped, but by what exactly, and then she talks about wanting to disappear or most likely die, But why, don't you have a son that you were obsessed with, and she once said that she did not need him, which was the opposite of what appeared, and we see in later chapters that she is ready to confess to her crime? She confesses and is taken to prison, and then Seichi creates fake memories based on a lack of understanding of his mother’s personality, and I do not blame him, she is confusing. And then Seiichi kills Shigure, which is strange enough, so how did Shigure get there in the first place, and where were both of his parents? Seiichi becomes a murderer and is imprisoned for three months, during that time he becomes completely obsessed with his mother Seiko is released in a strange way. Why did no one try to understand why Seichi did this? It seems as if the author wanted to free Seiko in any way, even if it was outside logic. In court, we see seiichi and seichi's father, but there is no sign of either uncle or aunt Which is illogical, as the victim is their son and they are supposed to be present at the court session to hear the final ruling on their son’s killer. Seiko appears shortly afterward, and before she listens to the final judgment on her son, she immediately announces that she will abandon him, and says that she thought she would be saved by raising him and giving him love, but she was wrong. She describes him as a criminal and thanks him because he has become a criminal, and she is happy because she will start a new life. Which is the exact opposite of what was built before that. According to our knowledge, Seiko hates herself and wants to die and disappear, but what we see now is a person who wants to live, and also the smile that she gave to Seiichi is strange, as if she is happy to be rid of him, as if he was a burden on her shoulders. What exactly is she happy about? Is it by getting rid of her son or by being freed? If the first is strange, then she has shown a determination to keep him by her side and now she is getting rid of him as if it was nothing important from the beginning. If the second is the person who confessed his crime to the aunt and wanted to enter. the prison It doesn't make sense, and when Seichi pounced on her and tried to strangle her, her expression was cold, as if she didn't care? Which increases the confusion. Wasn't she happy with her new life? Alice should be afraid of death now, but no, her expression was cold She looks at her son very coldly, as if he is nothing We move to events twenty years later, which I do not understand why the author jumped forward all these years The police officer speaks and says that Seiko was holding on to the photo album as if it was something precious to her Which goes against everything we previously knew about her, Seichi is worthless to her and she made that clear to everyone so why the hell is she keeping the album? Why did you take him in the first place? What is the meaning of that? Does she not want to forget her son? Why did you leave him in the first place? Why did you not visit him again? You abandoned him for 20 whole years. They meet again and the first sentence that Seichi hears is that she says that she is childless. It is clear that all that time she has been telling everyone that she is unmarried and childless. If she is proud of that, then why does she keep an album with pictures of her husband and child? It doesn't make sense We then notice that Seiko describes Seiichi as a stranger, which shows that she does not remember him, and when she finally recognizes him, Seiichi feels angry, so she begins to regret it and tells him to kill her? Really, aren't you the same person who wanted to start his life again 20 years ago? Also, where were the cold expressions at that time? Why are you crying now? She keeps a white cat in her house, calls her Cici, and seems to enjoy playing with her When Seiichi and Seiko are asleep, Seiko tells Seiichi that she has not forgotten him and bans the photo album This is illogical, as she was telling everyone that she was childless and had completely forgotten about her son for 20 years without communication, and now she is telling him that she did not forget him? I don't understand, wasn't he worthless to you, isn't that why you abandoned him, why are you now interested in letting him know that you haven't forgotten him? And now you are trying to prove that you have not forgotten him by using the album? Why did you leave it if you did not want to forget him? What is this logic? She then starts talking about her past, which I was expecting something big to connect all these contradictions But I was wrong. Her past is like the past of any girl in a sad shoujo manga. No rape, no violence, no bullying, not even intense hatred on the part of her parents. I sympathized with her sick sister more. How could this past provide justification for criminal tendencies, the attempted murder of Seichi, extreme coldness and lack of care, and at the same time self-loathing, suicidal tendencies, and self-love because she described herself as beautiful? It seems that the author lost the passion for the story and did not plan for Siko's past from the beginning. The story ends after Seiko's death and Seichi's life until he becomes old The story is undoubtedly sad, but the characters are devoid of logic, especially the characters Seiko and Seiichi If you have a convincing explanation for Seiko's character, please explain it to me, because I didn't understand the character and Seichi either. To be honest, perhaps I will publish another post about Seichi.

2024.05.07 10:23 dumbmoney231 31 [M4F] #Calgary, Canada - child free and love cats

Hi Everyone, a bit about me.
I am 5"11", well educated, very muscular and broad-shouldered, not someone you can easily lose in a crowd. I will also say I do not see myself having kids. I have been complimented on my voice quite often, about it being calming. I do also have a British accent of course.
I have done pretty well in life, worked pretty hard to get where I am now and would love to meet someone who appreciates ambition and is an ambitious person.
I moved to Calgary from the UK back in June 2022, I work as a DevOps Engineer and i have been working from home for the past 3 years. Also travel to Dallas a lot for work so I am not tied down for my job, I can easily visit you.
I have been doing alot of traveling recently, I recently did a trip around Iceland, went to Hungary and visited alot of different states last year.
Looking for someone to share experiences with and just enjoy life, feel like I have reached where I need to be in life and I am ready to share that with someone. I am a homebody, I do enjoy staying at home, especially during the winters here, living alone is not fun. I also cook pretty well too.
I do have a nerdy side, I like spending time on my PC, I love board games and I am an introvert at heart but I have no issues talking to people at the same time. I also love cats, I volunteer in my spare time looking after cats before they get adopted. I will also pet any cat I see on the street.

2024.05.07 10:18 ChocPineapple_23 Small Car Accident in Crete

Hello! Two posts about rental cars in a couple days! So fun! /s
Essentially what happened is that I had been parked at a spot on the street along with many other cars ~ 9 am this morning in Chania. I had come back to the car to retrieve my luggage and I notice a woman trying to reverse through the street for some reason. I hear a loud crack and realize she's hit my car and damaged the left rear light. I have her insurance information, name and phone number along with their plates of their car and pictures of the slight damage to my car.
I called my car company (CarWiz) and let them know. They seemed confused about what had transpired (the other guys English was poor). They told the girl who hit me to call a number and leave a statement (which made no sense to me, what if she lies?) I tried to go to the Traffic Police but they were not there. An officer said to come back around 2 pm today or tomorrow (since today is a holiday).
I do have rental car insurance through a third company as well as through my credit card but they usually require some sort of copy of a police statement. I looked on CarWiz's website and they ALSO ask for a police statement.
What should I expect? Has anyone dealt with a small accident with a rental vehicle here in Crete? Would appreciate advice, thanks.

2024.05.07 10:16 ConfusionDry2084 I found some notes from a detective about a case that has yet to be solved

Hi guys, this is my first time posting on here, but hopefully won't be my last. I found These notes saved on a floppy disk that was in my attic. I didn't even know what it was at first! Labeled on it was the name "Jim McCasey, my last name, but I didn't know any Jim. When I asked my dad he said he was my great uncle. We don't talk to my dad's family much and even then he didn't know his uncle very well. When he died he ended up with a box of some of his police stuff. I managed to get the disk and after reading a little bit i thought it would be cool if Wendigoon and meatcanyon could read it, it seems like something they would like. I'm gonna post a little bit here (mainly Here's because I'm banned on nosleep haha) Heres the first section, if you want to see more please upvote and comment!
I'm writing this down just for clarity, maybe closure if there i any for me to find. My name is Captain Donald Jim McCasey. I'm 58 years old and was born in 1933 in Nashville, Tennessee to Chris and Helen McCasey, both immigrants from Ireland. Being Irish in the 1940s means it was set in stone that I would be a police officer. Not much more the only son of a poor Irish family could do back then. I joined the Davidson County Sheriff's Office in 1952 as a deputy, though it didn't take long for me to get promoted. In 63 David County and Nashville decided to merge their two offices into the Metropolitan Nashville police department something I never agreed on but also something I had no say in. I was born in Nashville General but I hated the city, it was nothing but a den of degeneracy and crime. Every other day we would lose another one of our Deputies on those filthy streets. At this point I had been promoted to detective, You are probably wondering why I am skimming over so much of my life, that is because I am not here to talk about my life. I wish to discuss the events of January 1968 to August of 1973. Almost 6 years of my life that has taken over the other 6 decades of my life. I do not want forgiveness from whoever reads this, I am simply leaving this as written admittance of my wrongdoing for my own sake. January 31st, 1968, I left for work at 6:30 every morning. I kissed my wife on the cheek and left just as my kids were getting on the school bus. I arrived to work around 7. I was running late that day and my morning coffee had been cold. I remember it in such detail as this was one of the last moments I had true peace in my life. I got the order down from the top brass for a dead body found on the bank of the Cumberland River. I had no immediate reaction to that. Back then it was a popular mob dumping spot, we pulled a body out of there weekly. I groaned at the idea of filling out paperwork for another greaseball getting whacked and us having to clean up the mess. I collected my belongings and took my 66 Pontiac to the crime scene. When I arrived 45 minutes later, the usual crowd of people was replaced with few and far between cops keeping an army of reporters away from the shore of the banks. If this didn't tell me that something was different, the smell definitely did. It wasn't the usual smell of regular rot and death I find when approaching a dead body, but this was something different. The smell was that which I can only describe as something my father had described to me. My father was an infantryman in the war, he was extremely proficient with pyrotechnics. For two long years, he used a flame thrower to set people on fire for his country in France. The look in my father's eye as he remembered setting men ablaze like the devil himself. Remembering how it felt, Remembering the smell, It's what I felt then. On the shore was the torso of what was once human had been diminished to a black charred lump lain on the riverbank. Approaching the crime scene, it was a small congregation of sparse fellow men of the law and a few grave robbers from the county morgue. I take one last drag from my cigarette before flicking it into the wet grass a few feet away. Having an ex-wife who had cheated on me the year before, I had an eye for the littlest details that can be the difference between a closed case and a cold one. The victim was male, no significant cut marks on the chest and a matching hip bone to that of a male. Burning, cutting up, and disposing of the body shows clear shame in the murder. At the moment it was difficult to tell the cause of death, though a few days later it was revealed that burning alive was the cause of death, and he had been dead for a week, give or take. In just a few minutes of silent staring, I already had a profile of the killer. The killer was male, extremely sadistic, and possibly a victim of abuse or trauma that caused him to be unaffected by torture and traumatic experiences, like burning a person alive. My theory at the time was that he was some kind of veteran due to the specific fuel burns on his back. The only person who would know how to properly use a flamethrower is someone who served. Then again it could have been some kind of gasoline. The torso held many secrets not obvious to most, but here i was gathering personality traits from a corpse. Without a word, I finished writing in my notebook and left the crime scene. A week later they found a burned elbow behind a bodega downtown. Three days after that a skull belonging to a Kevin DeMasso found in the man's own yard after he was reported missing a month before. An hour later the case was on my desk. Reviewing the evidence of the other parts it was clearly similar to our torso, except each part was found in much more obvious places, which was not good. There was no denying that there was a killer on the loose, and the only person who would be looking for leads more than I would be the media. Little did I know that this case would be the one to ruin 2 marriages, a relationship with my firstborn, and the chance of me ever getting another sleepless night.

2024.05.07 10:01 B1gB4DW0lf80 M4A Percy Jackson Roleplay

So, you wanna hear a story? Alright, pull up a chair and let me tell you about the world as it is now. Picture this: a world of neon-lit cities, towering skyscrapers and some amazing cyberpunk views. Yeah, it’s a far cry from the world I grew up in. Back in my day, being a demigod was tough but we had a decent amount of godly support to keep us going. But now? We’re just relics of a bygone era, forgotten and left to gather dust.. i dont envy you. Meanwhile, the monsters are having a field day. With no heroes to keep them in line, they’re tearing through the streets like they own the place. And believe me, it’s not pretty. And the mythology? Let’s just say it’s seen better days. Camp Half-Blood used to be the place for Greek demigods like me, but now it’s like a mythological melting pot. Norse, Egyptian, you name it—they’re all there, trying to make sense of this brave new world. But even in the midst of all the chaos, there’s hope. Because even in a world that’s forgotten its past, there are still heroes—kids stepping up into shoes ten times too big for them, all because they were born to a God and a Mortal. With wicked skills and powers just waiting to be used, i shutter to think of whats in store. Even if you dont know how to control it yet just remember this old quote from an even older friend of mine: “Use it only for emergencies”
If you are interested send me a message, down for multiple characters.

2024.05.07 09:23 Strict_External678 Prayers Of The Malevolent Moon Chapter 3

The Millfield Public Library closed at 6 pm sharp, the heavy doors swinging shut with a muffled thud. Sarah tucked the folders of copied articles under her arm and headed out into the rapidly fading light. The temperature had dropped noticeably, the air taking on a crisp bite that promised an early winter.
She made her way down the library steps, lost in thought. The missing persons cases from the 60s tugged at her mind, loose threads begging to be pulled. Six people vanished without a trace over a single summer. No evidence, no closure for the families left behind. And no indication of why the cases had interested Daniel Cobb so deeply half a century later.
As Sarah crossed the street to the small parking lot where she'd left her car, the back of her neck prickled. She paused, hand halfway to the driver's side door. The lot was empty, leaves swirling across the cracked asphalt, but the feeling of being watched was unmistakable.
She turned slowly, scanning the deepening shadows. The sun had nearly set, bleeding orange and red across the horizon. Streetlights flickered on with a buzzing hum. But there, at the mouth of the alley between the library and the neighboring antique store - was that a figure, half-hidden in the gloom?
Heart suddenly pounding, Sarah squinted into the darkness. "Hello? Someone there?"
No response. The figure, if it had ever been there at all, was gone. Sarah waited a long moment, hand resting on the butt of her service weapon, but the alley remained empty and still.
Unnerved, she climbed quickly into her car and locked the doors. She let out a slow breath, chiding herself for jumping at shadows. The atmosphere of the strange little town was getting to her, the weight of Daniel Cobb's murder and these cold cases from the past.
Still, as she pulled out onto the lamp-lit street, she couldn't quite shake the feeling of eyes on her back. Of a presence in that alley, cloaked in shadow and malice.
Sarah drove aimlessly for a while, trying to clear her head. She needed food and a good night's sleep. The mental gears wouldn't stop turning otherwise, endlessly chewing over scant details and dead-end clues.
She pulled into the gravel lot of a small diner on the outskirts of town, lured by the warm yellow glow spilling from the windows. A bell chimed above the door as she stepped inside, enveloped instantly by the smell of coffee and frying bacon.
The diner was nearly empty at this hour, just a few scattered patrons hunched over steaming mugs at the Formica counter. Sarah slid into a corner booth, the red vinyl creaking under her weight. A bored-looking waitress ambled over, pulling a pencil from behind her ear.
"What can I get ya, hon?"
"Just coffee, please. And a bowl of the chili if you've got it."
The waitress jotted it down and walked off without a word. Sarah pulled out the folders and fanned them across the table, hoping that food in her stomach would jog some new insight.
But the words swam before her tired eyes, the faces in the faded black and white photos blurring together. Missing. Vanished. Gone without a trace. Just like Daniel Cobb, a shy grocery clerk who had no business being ritualistically murdered in the woods.
What connected them? What had Daniel seen in their cases that had cost him his life years later? Or was it all just some terrible coincidence, a young man in the wrong place at the wrong time?
The waitress returned, plunking down a mug of coffee and a bowl of steaming chili. "Holler if you need anything else," she said, already turning away.
Sarah sipped the coffee, wincing at the bitter bite of it. Her gaze fell on one of the photos, a pretty young woman with dark hair and a shy smile. Maureen O'Connell, 24. Vanished on her way home from her job at the local dance hall.
Maureen's photo stirred something in Sarah's memory. She'd seen that face recently, but not in any of the case files. No, it had been...
Her eyes widened. In the library. There had been a photo of Maureen on the wall near the local history section, part of a display on Millfield's bygone days.
But Maureen hadn't been the only familiar face in that display. Because right next to her photo, smiling out from a black and white snapshot...
Had been Bill Thompson. The owner of the Millfield Grocery.
Looking barely a day over 20.
Sarah's heart began to race, the chili turning to lead in her stomach. Bill had to be in his 60s now. But that display, those photos...they had clearly been from the early 60s. At the same time, the missing persons cases had happened.
Had Bill known Maureen? Had he known the other victims too? And if so, why had he never come forward? What was he hiding?
Sarah's hand shook as she pulled out her cellphone, scrolling frantically through her contacts. She needed to talk to Sheriff Briggs, to tell him about this connection. Perhaps Bill wasn't the harmless small-town grocer he appeared to be.
The line rang once, twice. "Come on," Sarah muttered. "Pick up."
But after the fourth ring, it went to voicemail. Sarah cursed and ended the call without leaving a message. Fine. She'd go to the Sheriff's Department in person then. She couldn't sit on this, couldn't risk Bill getting wind that she'd uncovered his secret.
She threw a crumpled twenty on the table and gathered her files, the bell chiming discordantly as she rushed out the door...
...and ran smack into a tall figure blocking her path.
"Going somewhere?"
Sarah staggered back, hand instinctively flying to her gun. That voice...
She looked up slowly into the stern, weathered face of Bill Thompson. He stood unnaturally still, his expression inscrutable.
"Bill," Sarah said carefully. "You scared the shit out of me. I was just headed to see Sheriff Briggs."
"I know what you were doing." Bill's voice was cold, flat. Empty of inflection. "I know what you found."
Sarah's stomach turned to ice. Her hand tightened on the grip of her weapon. "What are you talking about?"
Bill smiled thinly. "Let's not play games, Detective. We both know you're too smart for that." He took a step closer. "Now, we can do this the easy way, or..."
He let the unspoken threat hang in the air between them. Sarah's mind raced, darting frantically between fight and flight.
She never had time to decide. A heavy weight crashed down on the back of her skull, an explosion of pain.
And then there was only darkness.
Sarah's last thought before she lost consciousness was that Bill Thompson's eyes weren't human at all. They were black as a moonless night.
And filled with the cold void of space.

2024.05.07 08:59 AdSignificant253 "I thought they killed him!"... Coton de Tuléar miraculously survives "molosser" attack (Saint-Juéry, France, May 3 2024)

The dogs's breeds are officially "unidentified", but this has all the hallmarks of a pit attack and the fact that they mention the lack of a muzzle (mandatory for restricted breeds including pits here) is telling. I'll update this as soon as more info comes out or if I can find the pictures.
Pilou, a small Coton de Tuléar dog, was attacked on May 3 during his evening walk in Saint-Juéry by two loose molossers. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, he survived. His owners, shocked by the attack, are anxious to alert the neighborhood.
"Everything happened very quickly", explains the septuagenarian from Saint-Juéry, who wishes to remain anonymous. On Friday May 3, at around 8pm, as he was walking his dog on a leash in a quiet area of the commune, two molossers appeared out of nowhere and pounced on "Pilou", his 5-year-old Coton de Tuléar.
As a result of the surprise and violence of the impact, the 76-year-old man fell to the ground, sustaining minor injuries to his hip and hands. Pilou lay on the ground, bloodied and lifeless. "I thought they killed him," he says.
Alerted by the barking and cries, neighbors came out. One of them tried to intervene. "He was brave, he came closer and made big movements with his arms to keep the two dogs away", explains a neighbor who was able to take distant pictures of the two black and brown molosses, of unidentified breeds, as they left the street and wandered a little further along the roadside.
Disoriented after the attack, the owner went home to look for his wife, then they took Pilou to an on-call veterinary clinic that evening. "They kept him for three days. Luckily he was wearing his collar, otherwise he would have died," says the septuagenarian, pointing to the scars on the animal, which he took back to the vet on Monday for a check-up.
The couple also state that they filed a complaint with the Albi police station on Saturday morning. At the time of the attack, the two dogs were off-leash, unmuzzled and, above all, without their owner. They had probably escaped from the home of the latter, a resident of Saint-Juéry who was subsequently identified.
In any case, Pilou's owners were touched by the kindness of the neighbors, who asked for news of their little dog over the weekend, and are alerting possible future victims. "What we want is for people to know what happened and to be careful," concludes the septuagenarian.
