Hey everyone! I've been seeing a few posts here and there about Colosseum and just an overall interest in S/S+ characters. I myself am among the unlucky few who has not yet pulled a single S character, but I've managed to 3-star every stage in the first story mode as well as complete every single mode aside from the Superstar Challenge and the Beach one (I'm putting these off until I get an S Wing Spiker since Superstar seems impossible to 3-star without a Spiker that can more frequently boom/no-touch ace, and Beach is just boring to me imo).
In addition, I've been able to beat Colosseum with only a team consisting of an A-rank WS, B+ MB, and B+ Setter. Of course, this took me a few tries but the main thing that I've learned is that the final boss is much easier to get through than the boss stages. I'm playing with Beginner and Auto mode turned off, while Run-Up is turned ON. I'm not sure if different settings will help.
I'll expand on this now and give more detail, but I'd just like to say first that this is NOT a guide for a guaranteed win. Some RNG will still matter and therefore you may not be able to win the Colosseum run on your first try. This will be a VERY long guide, but I'll try my best to give a summary at the end for those who don't have the patience or want an easy flowchart to look at while playing.
So let's start off with your roster and playing style.
Stats of your team:
Firstly, you definitely want every member to be at least B+ so you can possibly max out 2 stats and get some additional points in to others. Do NOT attempt Colosseum if you can't max out your players' stats; you'd just be frustrating youself.
For the Setter, I maxed out Jump and Defense and spent the extra points on Speed. My Setter came with 85 Attack so I simply didn't bother increasing it since it's costly and she seems to be able to get serve aces anyway even with a low attack stat.
For my MB, I maxed out Defense and Speed while spending the rest of the points on Attack. IMO you can probably tweak with this as you like, the MB really isn't that important anyway.
My reasoning for this is that you'll be doing pretty much all of the work on getting points anyway, so might as well increase your teammates' chances of blocking out spikes or receiving without getting their defenses broken through if you make mistakes.
Stats of your WS and how your playing style will vary:
As for the stats, obviously you want a maxed out Attack and Jump, while I keep Speed at least at 100 and spend the rest of my points in Defense. The low Speed is due to the fact that you'll be spending pretty much all your time in your team's zone anyway, and having a high speed MB can make up for any threats of a Touch Out.
Your playing style will be one of two things which are purely dependent on your Wing Spiker's height. Note that these playstyles only really matter with the non-boss teams and are all about defense. We'll be employing team-specific strategies when it comes to attack/defense against bosses and attacks against the non-bosses.
Currently my two best WSs are 179cm (A-rank) and 212cm (A-minus rank). The 179cm WS is my main WS that I use right now purely because of additional stats, and he's the shortest player on my team.
The tall playstyle (probably good for at least 190cm WS) will involve blocking a lot because some of the players on the regular teams generally have weak attacks but can spike higher than shorter characters, so having a tall WS with good defense stats is often enough to block out the strongest spikes from these teams. This also matters more at the start because most of the ability cards at the first round will decrease your jump points, so if your player's tall enough to still be able to block shots from the enemy team with decreased jump, then you can definitely go with this style.
The short playstyle (good for below 190cm) involves going for dives on every shot that the enemy takes. It conserves team stamina and gives you more chances to get attacks in and whittle the enemy's defenses down.
Obviously, if you've been playing for a while, you already know the advantages of blocking and diving. But, the key difference between the two when it comes to Colosseum is that the tall playstyle is generally easier and more aggressive and can let you win games faster through good blocks, but is more prone to RNG with your block sometimes leading to an unsalvageable touch out and therefore making you lose points.
Meanwhile, the short playstyle is harder but a safer style. It's harder because you need to be good at reacting to quicks and positioning yourself in general. But if you can consistently dive enemy spikes, then you'll never get a touch out and you save your team stamina for the few times that you make a mistake and your team has to cover, which they'll often do by simple receives and not dives.
Once you've determined your playstyle, let's take a look at your general tournament strategy and then your attack strategy for each opponent.
General Strategy:
When starting a run, the rule of thumb is to take a look at the path and see which one you can take with at least ONE rest while having the least amount of boss fights. If you get lucky, you can have a path with 1-2 rests without a single boss fight to take. If you're low on health/score (3 or below), I suggest avoiding boss fights completely even if taking the boss fight can lead you to a rest. Ideally you'll have at least 7-8 score/health remaining by the time you reach the final boss.
When it comes to resting, I haven't tried the full heal yet since I don't really need the full 10 HP to win. I only take the 5 HP restoration if I'm below 6 HP and take the -5 Attack -2 Jump debuffs which won't really have noticeable effects unless you weren't able to balance out your buffs and debuffs.
As for ability cards, I suggest choosing the -10%/20% jump reductions at the start if you can find them. You can choose to reroll if you really want to/can afford it, but in any case, the guideline for stats ability cards is this:
Non-boss team strategies:
Let's start with Blue Lancia, which imo is the most predictable non-boss team in the mode (I've gotten multiple 10-0s against them). Their blocking is somehow near-perfect yet their receives are ass. So, to keep this short, the flowchart is just around 2 conditions, based on the enemy blocker:
For Yellow Spear, most of the strategy involves around defense. They're the only non-boss team that likes doing quicks/surprise attacks from what I observed, and their attacks CAN get through high defense at times. For attacking against them, you can play normally but you might want to go for feints if their tall blocker jumps (I forgot his name) since he can sometimes block you out, but not as much as Blue Lancia.
Boss teams:
There are certain teams that you want to avoid completely. Although you can try your luck with some of them if you think you're skilled enough to do so. I suggest avoiding boss fights completely if you're only on 3 health or lower unless you're willing to use the quitting/retry cheese strat.
My ranking of the boss teams from easiest to hardest to beat is as follows (note once again that this is from the perspective of playing with NO S characters, I'm sure that this will be completely different for those with S characters especially a WS):
Another disclaimer coming here... I haven't fought Robert's team yet at the time of this writing so I can't really give my insights on how to beat them. But considering how surprisingly forgiving BYE (NN's team) and BELL (Isabel's team) are, I doubt that Robert would be any different.
I find BELL to be the easiest team to play against. You can play pretty much normally since they don't have strong blocks and receives, while defending would just be doing the usual dive strat which I've already mentioned is the safest.
BYE is harder but only in a general sense. I don't find NN's set to be that much of a threat (tbh it makes their attack much easier to time), and Jaehyun's spike is consistently blockable although not worth testing the RNG for possible Touch Outs if your score is low already.
Summary:
Take jump debuffs (I almost never take the Easy ability cards since I want to greed for Blue Flames) at the start and just slide/dive or block against weak attack teams. I recommend diving for pretty much every team and don't bother blocking if you wanna conserve health as much as possible, but this can make your runs longer.
Play normally against Red Scudo. Play more defensively against Yellow Spear. Feint as much as possible against Blue Lancia and only spike when the enemy blocker doesn't jump with you.
Go for boss fights if you have enough health and they aren't Valentia/Solar. Make sure to get a good ability card such as Nishikawa's Topspin Feint, Overpower or Heesung's Absolute Block (if you can mitigate your original jump debuffs) if you can afford rerolling for them; otherwise just take whatever good ability card you can get and prioritize Attack/the stats most affected by previous debuffs.
I highly suggest avoiding Valentia Spike and Solar unless you're determined to figuring them out. IMO it's a waste of time to attempt them without an S-rank but of course, it's your choice.
Against BYE, keep an eye out for NN's set and change your receive timing when he's setting. That's the only difficult part.
Against BELL, just receive well and be persistent with your spikes. By the time that you've reached them, you'd ideally have a high enough attack stat that you can easily break through their defenses.
And that's pretty much it! I'll update this post or just post a comment about Robert once I've played against his team. Apologies for the length of this post, but hopefully this helps some of you :)

- Unless you've been able to mitigate the initial 10/20% reduction, do NOT take any cards that reduce jump. Obviously since you're already taking huge hits to your jump stat, reducing it further without mitigating thru buffs will make it so much harder to spike/block.
- Let your Defense stats take the most hits; if your defense goes low enough (around 120 and below), switch to diving style if you're not using it already.
Non-boss team strategies:

- Whoever's blocking you at the net jumps at the same time as you do - Just feint. Even at max attack, my WS rarely ever gets through the blocker and causes me to lose points when spiking, so just feint over him, and if you do it for long enough, Blue Lancia's receiving is so bad that their receive will break even from just a simple feint.
- They don't jump at the same time - Spike. The max attack stats will break stamina faster. You'll rarely win points from spiking because even when their defenses are broken, they can keep the ball in the air when receiving spikes but can't when it's a feint So ultimately you'll still be going back to condition #1 to actually win the point.

- ZeroN - Strong stats and fast spikes by Youngsub which can make it tough to dive, but once you're on the attack, there's nothing special you need to really do to get points.
- Art High - Mid stats and extremely annoying to play against because of how consistently they can receive, but their attack's pretty predictable and even consistently blockable except if it's Sanghyeon spiking. You only really need to look out for Sanghyeon and that's about it.
- SolaOasis's team (forgot the full name) - Very difficult to beat, I suggest avoiding them. Surprisingly, AI Oasis isn't all that hard to play against, but the real challenge when it comes to this team is their serves. Both Oasis and ESPECIALLY Lisia have difficult serves. Lisia's underhand seems to always target you, though, so as long as you get the timing right, it's possible to receive it with a dive. But I suggest eating the serve with a normal receive if you can't get the timing or if you're confident that your defense/stamina can handle it.
- Valentia Spikes - Just avoid them. The Nishikawa in the Colosseum mode is the one that does the delayed spike the most which your team can't really defend against. Other Nishikawa spikes are blockable and actually quite predictable based on his positioning, but the delayed spike and his serves will eat up your points. I think with enough practice and the right ability cards, you can definitely learn to beat this team but it doesn't really seem worth it without an S-rank WS.

Here’s the story on how my table got booted on Mother’s Day. (It’s pretty epic) (long read but plz it’s amazing) (cussing)
Backdrop: So. It’s Mother’s Day. The BUSIEST day of the year for my restaurant and many others! It’s so busy, that we will have numerous parties (at my place it’s 10+ to be considered a “party”) as well as countless floor tables. We are all assigned parties at the beginning of the shift and then expected to take the walk in parties. There will be a line to the door all morning!
Story: Well. This Mother’s Day, that line lasted ALL DAY LONG. I was in the weeds the entire shift! (It’s a long shift for us. We will be there like twelve hours.) Anyhow, I finish a three with a three dollar tip, I finish a six with a five dollar tip :))) (screw you guys) and then I finish a nine with a great tip. In comes a six, so I take them. Then I have to take the eight behind them and the eleven beside the eight. This is fine and dandy except the kitchen is backed up. They had been behind since square one as well have a lot of newbies.
Well, I burst into tears because my six top was really passive and I wanted to get them their food but it had taken nearly 45 minutes for basic entrees. I am not angry with the cooks because they’re cooking buttloads of food all day long but it is absolutely stressful regardless. I finally get them their food and the guy at the table murmurs about a third refill. Dude spilt his drink earlier. His eyelids are barely open. He can’t speak above a mumble.
Well, I guess prior to this, this asshole got angry and started to look around the restaurant for me despite me telling him it was INSANELY busy and I’ve been in the kitchen three separate times to look for the food but that the cooks are swamped. Mind you, all of us are running circles and we have more tables and customers than we can handle. The owner who is in his eighties, we shall call him “Bob” was standing next to our busser “Frodo”. Big dude comes out of the room and Bob thinks he is looking for the bathroom. Big dude mumbles something and Bob laughs and says “ok” because he couldn’t hear him. Bob then looks over to Frodo and is like “what did he say?”
Frodo is all like “Bob. He was cursing at you. He said ‘I’m not looking for the fucking bathroom, I’m looking for my fucking server, she fucking sucks.’”
Middle Rant: Like bitch. First of all, stop spilling your specially made lemonade. Stop SUCKING DOWN your lemonade when clearly I am pissing sweat and waiting on THE ENTIRE ROOM BEHIND YOU.

So I get the salads out for the eight and I am about to take drinks for the eleven but I stop to make sure these assholes are Gucci. Here’s the encounter.
Me: Are you guys doing alright? Anything I can grab you?”
Cheese lady: YOU CAN GRAB MY CHEESE I ASKED YOU FOR FIFTEEN TIMES FIFTEEN MINUTES AGO.
Let’s pause. That’s one cheese request per minute. That’s a lot of requests. Next, don’t be condescending. We servers have it ROUGH on Mother’s Day. It isn’t my intention to not bring you everything you ask for every five seconds, it’s simply the fact that I am waiting on multiple LARGE tables, all of which are pissed to oblivion because they waited in line for an hour to be seated only to wait another hour for their food to come up.
Back to the story: Cheese lady: AND HE NEEDS A REFULL. MY FOOD IS COLD- BLAH BLAH…” (Disclaimer. Her food wasn’t cold. I was crying when they finally handed it to me. I legit waited till they had it in tears)(Also as a server iykyk the tone and attitude she’s giving me)
So, at this point, much like Mob in Mob Psycho has his crazy meter, mine had hit the 100% jackpot of pure rage and adrenaline. I looked at her straight in her angry, boiling eyes, and I said.
“Ma’am… it’s almost like… it’s the busiest day of the year!”
Cheese lady: “YOU CAN GET YOUR BITCH ASS ATTITUDE OUT OF HERE!! cussing shrieks. indistinguishable shrieks of faux success at making a server cry
So I start pissing tears, as I do. I was done man. Legit worked my butt off to get two really crappy tips and then be cussed out by someone who looks like she’s never worked a day in her life. (Not stereotyping, I just mean these people have clearly never worked food)
Frodo (that busser) tells me what they said earlier and tells me to go tell Bob (the owner)
I go to Bob, tell him what they said and even what I said, and he says. “Wait right here, dear.”
I hide out in his office wiping my face as I hear the mean table screaming at him from down the hall. Then Bob pulls out The Big Guns to the big dude.
Bob: “WERE YOU BORN TO BE RUDE!!?”

A lot of Spurs fans have become extremely optimistic regarding the return of draft picks because the franchise has hit a lot of jackpots in recent memory. But I think that has biased a lot of us to believe that this is a guaranteed, when it is not. Most draft picks turn out to be dogshit; and regardless of how competent the FO is, luck is paramount in the draft.

The swap will almost certainly be worthless, as the Spurs are not looking to be that much better than the Hawks in 2 years unless there are big changes in the lineups. Worse than that, I think the Hawks have hit rock bottom this year and can only improve from there. Their biggest issue was DJM and Trae playing simultaneously. Now that they've realized that this doesn't work, getting rid of either one of them can only significantly improve the team. Add to that Sarr being the best possible fit for players like Trae or Murray, and the Hawks will only get better in such a weak East conference.
To sum it all, those 2 Atlanta picks will likely be much weaker than we previously expected. Okay, I understand that when speaking to customer service, their replies seem robotic and repetitive and I'll explain why but most of us can differentiate between speaking to a real person and a bot and if you can't, I'm really really sorry to inform you that you neither hit the genes nor the education jackpot. Anyway, only the first message you receive when contacting customer support is by a bot which basically is asking you to be patient. After that, you're speaking to a real person who can see your profile, information, the entire history of your transactions, your conversations with other members, the previous claims you've raised, your complaints, Vinted's tracking of your item as well as the shipping provider you used tracking, etc...
So, when they tell you to wait for X days/hours for example, they didn't get that from thin air, unless it's a human error which happens occasionally and if it does, the next person you talk to will detect the mistake and corrects it.
No matter what your issue is, vinted has thought of it and put a process in place to deal with it and all employees around the world are trained on these processes to know what to tell the user aka you. All the agent has to do is identify your problem and send you the information vinted has provided them to deal with such situation. This will be quite a lengthy read because I'm laying out everything to get honest opinions with all the context. There's a TLDR at the end for those who'd rather skip the backstory. I know that most people go incognito with a throwaway account for this kind of post. But I wanted this to be authentic, using my real account. I didn't want anyone to think this was disingenuous. If we know each other in real life or you find me on my other socials, let's keep our chats here or in PMs. I don't want anyone harassing anybody, and I have a sixteen-year-old daughter who has been spared this drama so far.
I tied the knot shortly after high school, and let's just say, if my marriage were a collegiate course, it would be "F*** Up - 101." It was a masterclass in what not to do, featuring every red flag in the book. I was fresh-faced and barely off on my life journey, thinking I'd hit the jackpot. I'd assumed I'd accomplished what my parents did, that being the poster couple for marital bliss. I was so naive, always giving the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, my then-wife, fresh from escaping her parental fortress of solitude, went bat s*** crazy, deciding that 'living life to the fullest' didn't include me in the picture.
Before I knew it, I was Mr. Mom with our toddler while she was trapped underneath a few individuals, making up for lost time. After finally catching her in the act, I filed for a divorce and braced for the impact. Divorcing in '97 in the heart of the bible belt was not favorable towards the husband back then. What followed was straight out of a horror movie. I paid my attorney five thousand dollars to watch her take everything from my guitars and video games. She even claimed keepsakes from a departed relative, and the judge seemed happy to grant her every wish. Not only did I bid farewell to everything I owned, but my time with my son got slashed to a mere Wednesday afternoon and alternating weekends.
My faith in women was broken. I went on a few dates here and there but mostly kept it to casual encounters and dinners. I never let anyone get too close. But, in early 1999, at a friend's birthday party, I met a woman whose marriage had crashed harder than mine. She'd had a stillbirth six months into her pregnancy, and her husband dared to bring his girlfriend to the funeral. She was heartbroken, to say the least, to learn about her husband's affair and the end of her marriage on the day they laid her daughter to rest. We sat on a couch that night, swapping tales of romantic ruin. She was clever, and to me, that is an instant connection. It's rare for me to find someone who makes me laugh instead of vice versa. We enjoyed each other's company, and our lives meshed perfectly. As with life, however, it finds those moments of bliss to take a giant s*** on you. In 2006, I began feeling ill; eating resulted in violent illness, which I initially thought was a virus. But after a week with no improvement, it was clear this was something else. I was admitted to the local hospital and underwent numerous tests. When I was first admitted, I weighed 222 pounds at a height of 6'2". Within a year, I had dropped to 146 pounds, and my condition dumbfounded the doctors. My health was deteriorating rapidly. Throughout the ordeal, she never left my side, her hand in mine, begging me not to leave her.
In late 2007, a last-ditch effort sent me to the Cleveland Clinic, where a young doctor rushed me into surgery. When I awoke three hours later, she was there, hand in mine, with a smile. It was a success; I was cured. While I'll spare you the details, it involved my colon. Finally, I could eat and move without agony. My life resumed, and we were happy again. The following year, she received a lucrative job offer in her field, earning more than I did. That didn't bother me at all; she worked hard, and she'd earned it.
After her miscarriage, my wife was unable to conceive. We had been trying since 2000 and eventually came to terms with the fact that it might not happen. In 2010, we got a call from the state of Minnesota about a two-year-old girl who had been taken from her mother due to drug-related charges. They asked if we would consider adopting her because the mother had requested she be placed with family members before her parental rights were terminated. Jesus, man. I’m sorry for your loss(es). Timing of your wife’s confession is mind-boggling. Realistically, this is above Reddit’s pay grade. I’ll recommend therapy, but probably above a therapist’s pay grade too. I know you also state you don’t want therapy, but that sounds like the exact time you need it. They can offer grief support, which is what you’ll need as you tease out emotions from losing loved ones and a very nasty betrayal. I hope you find happiness in whatever you decide.

Not couples counseling but individual therapy for you. You need the support right now after all you've been through and an unbiased third party to support you through the pain and demise of your marriage, next steps and co-parenting.
My unprofessional angle here is that this is most likely over. Had she come clean in 2017 you would have been able to make a choice regarding forgiveness, couples therapy etc. she held on to this secret for seven years and then dumped it on you at the worst time in order to ease her own guilty feelings. Especially knowing that you had both been hurt in this exact way in the past is especially jaw dropping that she did all of this.

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your losses. I extend my sincere condolences.
You need grief counseling. This would help you put things in perspective. At least you'll be able to eventually make decisions based on logic than just pure emotion.
Secondly, your spouse. She not only betrayed you, she lied to you for eight years. EIGHT YEARS! That's fucking scary, because now you're gonna be wondering what else she can be hiding.
Now I'm an asshole, I'd be out of that marriage tomorrow. You however, have truly built a life with her. If, and I mean a big fucking IF, she's regretful, you should divorce, it would be less stress in your life having to be her warden. Because the trust is gone.
If, she's remorseful, you could try to work it out. But she needs to put in the work. Not you, HER. Because she's the one who fucked up.
Remember, regret and remorse are two completely different things.
I'd recommend you still talk to a lawyer before making a final decision. The more informed you are, the better choice you'll be able to make.

UPDATE - After spending Saturday morning formulating and reading the staggering number of comments, I've made my decision. Some said my issue was far beyond the Reddit pay grade – they were mistaken. I deliberately avoided turning to family and friends, seeking a view from an outside perspective, and I think it worked. My gratitude goes out to all who sent private messages and responded; your thoughts on the matter helped me come to my conclusion.
On Saturday evening, I approached my wife to apologize for the silent treatment, I told her I wasn't attempting to punish her and acknowledged that it was childish. I told her if I would have opened my mouth, I would have been overly harsh and ruined any opportunity of a civil conversation. I promised we'd discuss it the next day.
On Sunday evening, I let it all out; I didn't cry, or raise my voice. I asked the man's name, which she provided. I asked her if the man was married when she betrayed us, and she confirmed he was. That hit me hard, because she knew he was also with someone. I asked if he was still married. She told me she had no clue, she hadn't seen him since the day she left for her new job. I told her I hoped they were, because I was going to make sure she knew. If my life had to be ripped apart, so would his. I thought that would get a rise out of her, it didn't. She just nodded.
I expressed my doubts about the affair being an isolated event, echoing the comments of several others. She maintained it was a one-off and was the sole reason she left her job. I explained that after eight years of this lie, it's natural for me to question anything she said. I then made it clear that if there's more to the story than what she's admitted, now is the time to be as open and honest as possible.
Any further revelations would be a deal-breaker for me, and there would be no excuse that could rectify it. She pleaded it was a singular occurrence and that she's been wanting to confess since it happened. I asked if he had reached out after her departure, she denied any contact. I (50 M) just learned my spouse (47 F) was unfaithful years ago in marriage. She came clean from guilt. Where do I go from here?
This will be quite a lengthy read because I'm laying out everything to get honest opinions with all the context. There's a TLDR at the end for those who'd rather skip the backstory. I know that most people go incognito with a throwaway account for this kind of post. But I wanted this to be authentic, using my real account. I didn't want anyone to think this was disingenuous. If we know each other in real life or you find me on my other socials, let's keep our chats here or in PMs. I don't want anyone harassing anybody, and I have a sixteen-year-old daughter who has been spared this drama so far.
I tied the knot shortly after high school, and let's just say, if my marriage were a collegiate course, it would be "F*** Up - 101." It was a masterclass in what not to do, featuring every red flag in the book. I was fresh-faced and barely off on my life journey, thinking I'd hit the jackpot. I'd assumed I'd accomplished what my parents did, that being the poster couple for marital bliss. I was so naive, always giving the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, my then-wife, fresh from escaping her parental fortress of solitude, went bat s*** crazy, deciding that 'living life to the fullest' didn't include me in the picture.
Before I knew it, I was Mr. Mom with our toddler while she was trapped underneath a few individuals, making up for lost time. After finally catching her in the act, I filed for a divorce and braced for the impact. Divorcing in '97 in the heart of the bible belt was not favorable towards the husband back then. What followed was straight out of a horror movie. I paid my attorney five thousand dollars to watch her take everything from my guitars and video games. She even claimed keepsakes from a departed relative, and the judge seemed happy to grant her every wish. Not only did I bid farewell to everything I owned, but my time with my son got slashed to a mere Wednesday afternoon and alternating weekends.
My faith in women was broken. I went on a few dates here and there but mostly kept it to casual encounters and dinners. I never let anyone get too close. But, in early 1999, at a friend's birthday party, I met a woman whose marriage had crashed harder than mine. She'd had a stillbirth six months into her pregnancy, and her husband dared to bring his girlfriend to the funeral. She was heartbroken, to say the least, to learn about her husband's affair and the end of her marriage on the day they laid her daughter to rest. We sat on a couch that night, swapping tales of romantic ruin. She was clever, and to me, that is an instant connection. It's rare for me to find someone who makes me laugh instead of vice versa. As I headed home, I couldn't shake her from my thoughts, kicking myself for not asking for her number.
The next, my phone rang, and it was her! She'd gotten my phone number from someone we both knew and asked: "Would you like to get food sometime?" I said, "Now sounds great!" So, I drove to her grandmother's house, and off we went on what turned out to be what I still consider the perfect date. Now, I get it; we were both lonely and had our hearts broken, but trust me, this was no spark; it was an inferno. And believe it or not, we've been inseparable since that day. We have not spent a night apart. That was twenty-five years ago, with us marrying a year after our meeting. Go ahead and facepalm, I know how it sounds, but it's hard to put the connection between us into words. Even I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.
Our families adored the two of us together. I was certain I had found my soulmate, if you believe in that, and I was certain she felt the same. We enjoyed each other's company, and our lives meshed perfectly. As with life, however, it finds those moments of bliss to take a giant s*** on you. In 2006, I began feeling ill; eating resulted in violent illness, which I initially thought was a virus. But after a week with no improvement, it was clear this was something else. I was admitted to the local hospital and underwent numerous tests. When I was first admitted, I weighed 222 pounds at a height of 6'2". Within a year, I had dropped to 146 pounds, and my condition dumbfounded the doctors. My health was deteriorating rapidly. Throughout the ordeal, she never left my side, her hand in mine, begging me not to leave her.
In late 2007, a last-ditch effort sent me to the Cleveland Clinic, where a young doctor rushed me into surgery. When I awoke three hours later, she was there, hand in mine, with a smile. It was a success; I was cured. While I'll spare you the details, it involved my colon. Finally, I could eat and move without agony. My life resumed, and we were happy again. The following year, she received a lucrative job offer in her field, earning more than I did. That didn't bother me at all; she worked hard, and she'd earned it.
After her miscarriage, my wife was unable to conceive. We had been trying since 2000 and eventually came to terms with the fact that it might not happen. In 2010, we got a call from the state of Minnesota about a two-year-old girl who had been taken from her mother due to drug-related charges. They asked if we would consider adopting her because the mother had requested she be placed with family members before her parental rights were terminated. My wife and I drove for 30 hours to meet her, and after a few months, we adopted her and welcomed her into our home.
Our daughter faced social challenges and had endured abuse, leading the two of us to decide one of us needed to be at home with her. As mentioned, my wife earned significantly more, so it made sense for me to be the one to step into the role. I dedicated each day to supporting our daughter's mental health. Eventually, I took up freelance journalism, so I was home when our little one finished her school day.
Our evenings were family time, and we took small trips on weekends. It was in 2017 that my wife returned from work one evening, deeply shaken by what she told me was a workplace argument. I shook my head again, went to my office, where I had a couch, and slept there.
The next day, after our daughter left for school, she asked if I had anything to say. I said yes. I questioned why she brought this up after the worst year of my life. Why couldn't she have kept it to herself until I could somewhat deal with something of this magnitude? She just looked away. I scoffed and told her to go to work and to try not to f*** anyone during her lunch break. That would have been April 4th; those were the last words I said to her until last night.
She had attempted to talk to me several times, but I would just walk past her into my office, trying to focus on my upcoming science fiction comedy book. Writing something funny is challenging when the thought of your spouse rolling around with another man stuck in her consumes your thoughts. A week ago, my daughter asked in the car if everything was okay, and I lied to her, which made me feel sick. Then, last night, my wife came to the office door and asked, "Are we getting a divorce?" I looked at her and replied, "Looks like it." She started crying and closed the door.
I haven't consulted an attorney, and the thought of divorce hadn't crossed my mind until she mentioned it. That's why I wrote this essay. Where do I go from here? Jesus, man. I’m sorry for your loss(es). Timing of your wife’s confession is mind-boggling. Realistically, this is above Reddit’s pay grade. I’ll recommend therapy, but probably above a therapist’s pay grade too. I know you also state you don’t want therapy, but that sounds like the exact time you need it. They can offer grief support, which is what you’ll need as you tease out emotions from losing loved ones and a very nasty betrayal. I hope you find happiness in whatever you decide.
OOP: I contemplated several different subs and I have no idea why I chose this one. I should have clarified above that after my son died, local hospice house around here has grief counseling, which I used extensively. I don't want to do couple's counseling is what I should have said. My apologies. I posted this to try and get outside perspectives from people, and maybe give me a different angle to look at this.

Not couples counseling but individual therapy for you. You need the support right now after all you've been through and an unbiased third party to support you through the pain and demise of your marriage, next steps and co-parenting.
My unprofessional angle here is that this is most likely over. Had she come clean in 2017 you would have been able to make a choice regarding forgiveness, couples therapy etc. she held on to this secret for seven years and then dumped it on you at the worst time in order to ease her own guilty feelings. Especially knowing that you had both been hurt in this exact way in the past is especially jaw dropping that she did all of this.

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your losses. I extend my sincere condolences.
You need grief counseling. This would help you put things in perspective. At least you'll be able to eventually make decisions based on logic than just pure emotion.
Secondly, your spouse. She not only betrayed you, she lied to you for eight years. EIGHT YEARS! That's fucking scary, because now you're gonna be wondering what else she can be hiding.
Now I'm an asshole, I'd be out of that marriage tomorrow. You however, have truly built a life with her. If, and I mean a big fucking IF, she's regretful, you should divorce, it would be less stress in your life having to be her warden. Because the trust is gone.
If, she's remorseful, you could try to work it out. But she needs to put in the work. Not you, HER. Because she's the one who fucked up.
Remember, regret and remorse are two completely different things.
I'd recommend you still talk to a lawyer before making a final decision. The more informed you are, the better choice you'll be able to make.

UPDATE - After spending Saturday morning formulating and reading the staggering number of comments, I've made my decision. Some said my issue was far beyond the Reddit pay grade – they were mistaken. I deliberately avoided turning to family and friends, seeking a view from an outside perspective, and I think it worked. My gratitude goes out to all who sent private messages and responded; your thoughts on the matter helped me come to my conclusion.
On Saturday evening, I approached my wife to apologize for the silent treatment, I told her I wasn't attempting to punish her and acknowledged that it was childish. I told her if I would have opened my mouth, I would have been overly harsh and ruined any opportunity of a civil conversation. I promised we'd discuss it the next day.
On Sunday evening, I let it all out; I didn't cry, or raise my voice. I asked the man's name, which she provided. I asked her if the man was married when she betrayed us, and she confirmed he was. That hit me hard, because she knew he was also with someone. I asked if he was still married. She told me she had no clue, she hadn't seen him since the day she left for her new job. I told her I hoped they were, because I was going to make sure she knew. If my life had to be ripped apart, so would his. I thought that would get a rise out of her, it didn't. She just nodded.
I expressed my doubts about the affair being an isolated event, echoing the comments of several others. She maintained it was a one-off and was the sole reason she left her job. I explained that after eight years of this lie, it's natural for me to question anything she said. I then made it clear that if there's more to the story than what she's admitted, now is the time to be as open and honest as possible.
Any further revelations would be a deal-breaker for me, and there would be no excuse that could rectify it. She pleaded it was a singular occurrence and that she's been wanting to confess since it happened. I asked if he had reached out after her departure, she denied any contact. I responded that it didn't surprise me, assuming he got what he wanted and moved on to another person at work. It was the only cheap shot I threw.

With the recent talks about the Brood Commander and Bile Spewer gaining traction, I figure now is the best time to post this. Do I dare preface this post by saying that I have 240 hours into the game and am close to level 90, playing mostly on d9 both with friends and random groups, with every Warbond at 100% completion. I am not telling people that they aren't entitled to their opinion, but what I am saying is that I have played with A LOT of loadouts, and I understand how to play the game.
This suggestion is more for bugs than bots because I find with bots you can run a larger variety of weapons and get away with it because they all have exploitable weak points that most weapons can take advantage of. Bugs, however, are a different story.
This suggestion also has more to do with support stratagem weapons than primaries -- primaries require their own balance and conversation, although the suggestion that I have here wouldn't hurt primary loadout decisions.
The suggestion is this:
MOST of the support stratagem weapons are good at their respective roles, but the problem right now is that it's a complete roll of the dice as to whether or not you brought an effective loadout, which makes bringing certain support weapons a gamble, which is why you see so many Quasars and Laser Rovers -- this loadout is safe and useful in any situation. And from the constant feedback we're seeing on this sub about balance, I think it's safe to assume that most players have struggled to feel effective during a mission. This one change would allow people to tailor their stratagem choice for the mission at hand.
Green stratagem selection would also benefit greatly from this. If you bring the Gatling Sentry, you clean up any light and medium target well enough, but Bile Spewers will actively target sentries will their artillery. Chargers and Bile Titans will also target them. If you bring the Autocannon Sentry and there's massive Hunter spam, you will struggle to get good use out of your AC Sentry.
No doubt there are players who enjoy the extra challenge of making their loadout work and trying to adapt during a drop, but there are countless more players who bring the same loadout for every mission because it's safe and they've learned to succeed with it.
The examples of how this would benefit player choice and loadout effectiveness should be obvious, but just in case here are only a couple:
Deep Rock Galactic informs you about enemy type, and the game is better for it. DRG has so many loadouts and overclocks, but can you imagine if the enemies were random? The game would not even be fun because of how ineffective certain loadouts are. Try bringing the Autocannon into a Rival Presence mission, for instance. You will struggle to kill the flying bots and turrets. The examples are NUMEROUS and for anyone who has played DRG you can understand what I am getting at here.
Bottom line is that players want to feel effective and they want to have fun with their support weapon choice. I don't see AH making all support weapons simply better, but I could be wrong. I think with so many support picks we will continue to see support weapons being good at certain roles, but right now you are a choosing a role blind. The game is simply more fun when you hit the jackpot of kit selection vs the enemy spawn pool, so let's make that part happen more often.

With all the drama and complaints around the sub, I feel like sharing a wholesome PMC-PScav moment I just took part in.
Now, like most people, I'm trying to do the event questline for the hideout reward, and right now, I just need a few more flash drives to decrypt. I have found all of mine in file cabinets, so I reckon it's the best place to look for them. I remember Reserve having a bunch of drawers scattered around the map, so that's where I'm headed.
At the beginning of the raid, nothing much happens. A couple drawers here and there, a scav or two, and I somehow managed to find 3 encrypted flash drives. At this point, I start heading deeper in the bunkers to reach the command center. I luckily managed to get the drop on three raiders and then suddenly, I hear someone looting a file cabinet right around the corner. As I start sprinting towards him to stop him from stealing my damn flashdrives, this guy goes "Hey, I'm just a scav! I'm stuck looking for these damn flash drives haha". I promptly tell him that I'm a PMC, that I too am looking for these damn flash drives, but that I won't kill him over them and that he can loot the raiders I killed.
If you've been in situations like these, you know how rare it is to find someone with a microphone to begin with, let alone someone who's willing to cooperate with you. A few seconds later, a hostile player scav almost got the drop on me as I was poking around a container, but a well-placed .300 round to the dome took care of it. My scav buddy goes to loot him and gives me the labs keycard he just found in his pockets. Now that I think back on it, maybe he heard us joke around and was also looking for a friendly interaction? Who knows.
Anyways, I ask my protégé if he wants to coop extract, to which he agrees, and as he leads us to the surface, he hurriedly back ran my way to tell me that Gluhar was right next to us. Honestly, I had no idea he could even spawn in the bunkers, from what I recalled, he only spawned either in the buildings surrounding the helicopter or the rail yard. Now, like most people, I'm trying to do the event questline for the hideout reward, and right now, I just need a few more flash drives to decrypt. I have found all of mine in file cabinets, so I reckon it's the best place to look for them. I remember Reserve having a bunch of drawers scattered around the map, so that's where I'm headed.
At the beginning of the raid, nothing much happens. A couple drawers here and there, a scav or two, and I somehow managed to find 3 encrypted flash drives. At this point, I start heading deeper in the bunkers to reach the command center. I luckily managed to get the drop on three raiders and then suddenly, I hear someone looting a file cabinet right around the corner. As I start sprinting towards him to stop him from stealing my damn flashdrives, this guy goes "Hey, I'm just a scav! I'm stuck looking for these damn flash drives haha". I promptly tell him that I'm a PMC, that I too am looking for these damn flash drives, but that I won't kill him over them and that he can loot the raiders I killed.
If you've been in situations like these, you know how rare it is to find someone with a microphone to begin with, let alone someone who's willing to cooperate with you. A few seconds later, a hostile player scav almost got the drop on me as I was poking around a container, but a well-placed .300 round to the dome took care of it. My scav buddy goes to loot him and gives me the labs keycard he just found in his pockets. Now that I think back on it, maybe he heard us joke around and was also looking for a friendly interaction? Who knows.
Anyways, I ask my protégé if he wants to coop extract, to which he agrees, and as he leads us to the surface, he hurriedly back ran my way to tell me that Gluhar was right next to us. Honestly, I had no idea he could even spawn in the bunkers, from what I recalled, he only spawned either in the buildings surrounding the helicopter or the rail yard. He's very protective and attentive to her, many said that they thought that he (let's call him Paul for story's sake) would end up with her (let's call her Allie) because they're tight-knit. Paul has always been Allie's protector, always there and taking care of her since childhood. So I guess it was a natural assumption to make.
Allie's very clumsy, and to be frank I think she has very low EQ, she's always so blunt and out of touch and very useless in anything physical even chores (she can't even swim and ride bikes), I think it has to do with her rather sheltered childhood, I've known of her and Paul since childhood since they just live a couple of blocks away from us and we attend the same school since daycare. She was a very sickly child up until middle school, when I say sickly I really mean it, that poor girl's in the hospital more often than not and people gossip that she should have been homeschooled.
So for the longest time I never really minded that Paul adores her and takes care of her. To be honest, their relationship, to me, looks more like a parent to a child or a brother to his younger sister. It was rather adorable, the way he attends to her that I keep thinking that he would make a really good father.
So, what's the problem? Well, I never really minded it for the longest time, Allie is a darling, thoughtful in her own way, and her chatter when she's passionate about something (more often than not, it's rather morbid like true crime, bloody history, etc.,). And really, Paul has never made me feel like I'm a second choice, he's very thoughtful and intuitive with my needs, but recently, people I talked to have been saying that I should be more assertive.
They say that a man can never have a girl best friend without strings attached or something like that. I didn't really pay attention to it that time, because it's not like Allie and Paul do anything worth getting jealous or possessive over, or at least that's how I have always felt. So as we all know, the chronic gambler has really been lacking ever since he began that fight with Uraume, and for the most part I agree that most of the hate he's getting is warranted. However, today I am here to fight for those little few who still believe that Kinji Hakari deserves to stand with the likes of Yuta, Maki, and Wuji Himtadori.
First and foremost, and probably the most important point i'll be making here, Hakari isn't Megumi Fushiguro, which bumps him up in the ranks by quite the amount. It goes without saying that this bum Megumi has had the biggest fall off in all of shonen manga, bro peaked in the Culling Games then ate dirt. Secondly, Hakari bagged Kirara which, let's be honest, we all wish we could have a piece of her. So Hakari is definitely Special Grade in the "rizz" department, gotta give props where props are due right?
Now, into the nitty gritty, going in deep, raw no rubber. I know the first thing people will bring up and use to put down Hakari is his "fight" with Yuji during the Culling Games arc. Allow me to counter this by saying, Yuji is no joke man. Literally everyone except Sukuna saw the potential in him and knew he was strong, it isn't very fair to use that fight against him especially when neither of them were going all out and trying to kill each other. Then there's Hakari's kit, and i'm gonna be blunt here and say that shit is genuinely overpowered. Now, it isn't Sukuna/Gojo overpowered of course but still OP nonetheless. We saw how well Gojo's RCT works at full force, he was able to protect himself from Sukuna's slashes easily with it, shit was fast as fuck and you wanna tell me Hakari's Jackpot RCT is even faster?? Show the man some respect. Not to mention since his cursed energy is so rough he can hit quite hard so that's nice. I'd say all he needs are some cursed tools and he'd be even better.
Now onto Sukuna's #2 glazer (after GayGay of course) Uraume. People try and use the unending fight between the two as a way to shit on both of them, and it's true, it'll be chapter 300 and Gege will give us a singular panel of them still going at it. BUT, let me remind you that Uraume is basically the closest thing to what Sukuna considers a friend, and that could just be because they worship the ever living hell out of him or maybe Sukuna just likes flat asses, but think about it, if Uraume truly was weak would they really be that close to Sukuna? Plus they're also from the Heian Era too, that's gotta say something right? Put the fact that Hakari has no regard for his safety and knows how to risk it all to win and he's a fuckin monster, Uraume says it themself.
Lastly, word of mouth from both Gojo and Yuta tells us that he's pretty freakin strong in his own right so maybe we should give the guy a little more credit. This post is already long as hell and i'm not going back to read through it for mistakes. TL:DR Hakari is good, just trust me bro.

Kevin Levin finds it and after the Antitrix had being bonded with him, the device was somehow repaired, granting Levin the cross-contaminated alien DNA to turn into a monstrous, mutated hybrid from Ben's 10 original aliens playlist. Antitrix Features: Active Mode: The Antitrix can keep the user in alien form per 5 to 15 minutes, being the usage time longer than that of the Omnitrix, which is 10 minutes. Size Alteration: The Antitrix can alter its size to fit the user's wrist. Quick Change: The Antitrix has a quick-change feature, allowing Kevin to change forms by pressing the symbol on the aliens' chests. This, however, uses Antitrix energy and reduces usage time considerably. Master Control: The Antitrix has a feature akin to Master Control, allowing the user to mentally choose the next alien to turn into. Ben and Kevin make their way to the city, de-transforming back to human in a lone alley. Posteriorly, in a subway station, Kevin and Ben hop over the ticket checks. They come into the empty station, which has two tracks on the floor. Kevin explains his plan: A money train loaded with cash was gonna come down that track, so when it crashes into the incoming passenger train, the money would fly and with their speedster forms, they would steal everything and leave. Ben, then realizing Kevin's intentions, dissolves his partnership with him and charges towards him, only to be thrown to the ground. Kirby Tennyson then activate the Omnitrix and tries to turns into Four Arms, but actually turns into Heatblast. Heatblast: Ugh, stupid watch. Kevin: Unlike yours... Kevin activates the Antitrix and turns into Quad Smack. Quad Smack: ...my "Omnitrix" let me transform into the alien i want to wreck you... Ben fires a burst of fire, but Kevin charges through by crossing his arms to defend himself, getting close enough to Pyronite to punch his face and send him flying into the wall of the subway station, Heatblast tries to regain consciousness, but Quad Smack grabs his leg, spinning him around and throwing him even further away, causing the wall to break and they begin to fight outside. Kevin runs towards Ben again to hit him, but Tennyson uses his fire teleport to get behind him, creating fire disks which makes the Tetramand retreat. Heatblast starts to launch several fireballs, trying to keep as much distance as possible, as he knew that in melee combat, he would be easily defeated by Kevin. Quad Smack: You're really getting on my nerves, Tennyson... Quad Smack slams the ground, creating a shock wave that interrupts the fire attacks; Kevin grabs his head and start repeatedly flung him into the ground. Heatblast: GET OFF ME! Heatblast amplifies his fire, causing Kevin to flinch, then the plasma-based alien kicks him with a blazing slide Heatblast: I'm losing time here... still have to stop that train from crashing... Ben returns to the train station, but when he was about to shoot fire at the track switch, he is interrupted by a quick attack Rush: Don't even think about it, flaming head... Heatblast tries to counterattack, but the speedster was too much for him and Ben de-transforms, getting defeated on the floor. Ben: How can you change forms so quickly? Rush: Does your Omnitrix not have this function? It sucks more than I imagined, apparently... They both start hearing the train horn and without anyone to stop it, it crashes, killing the people inside. Rush: Jackpot! It's raining money! Rush: Now I have to resolve some pending issues with some kids. See ya! Kevin runs with the money and goes after the thuggish kids from before. Meanwhile, Ben returns to the Rust Bucket, apologizing to Max. Mere apologies would not suffice this time; this was by far the most irresponsible thing Ben had done, leading to the deaths of hundreds of people on that train. However, for now, Max decides to listen to what Ben has to say. Ben discusses Kevin's powers, noting that his transformations are even more potent than his own. He speculates that Kevin may be under the 39th Street bridge, seeking revenge on the thugs. The RV gets stuck in traffic, and Ben tries to transform into Stinkfly but instead turns into Four Arms, using his enhanced jumping to reach the location. At the hideout, Ben meets Kevin as Crystalfist, who was trapping the four kids with his crystals. The Tetramand initiates a contest of strength against the Petrosapien, both evenly matched until Ben uses his four arms to push Kevin against the wall. Max and Gwen arrive, managing to free the kids from the crystals. Four Arms charges at Kevin once more but is interrupted by a wall of crystals. Breaking through the barrier, he rushes at Kevin again, shattering his two arms completely. Four Arms: What do you think about this, freak? Crystalfist: Not impressed... Crystalfist regenerates his limbs and forms a crystal sword, which strikes Four Arms' chest, tearing his suit. The Petrosapien touches the ground, transforming it into crystal thorns that ensnare Four Arms' feet. Before he can finish the fight, Gwen and Max distract him by throwing a tire at his head. Crystalfist: Don't interrupt the fight, idiots! Four Arms frees himself from the crystals, punching Kevin in the face repeatedly, sending him flying back into a column of the bridge. The Tetramand approaches him, preparing to deliver one final blow, but Kevin presses the Antitrix symbol, transforming into Phantasm and becoming intangible. He phases behind Ben and launches a debilitating attack in his mind (similar to what Ghostfreak did to Thumbskull in "Ghostfreaked out"). Four Arms is defeated and de-transforms, but Kevin also starts de-transforming. He becomes intangible, disappearing from Team Tennyson's sight. The next morning, the Rust Bucket leaves the city, and Max reminds Ben that he must earn back his trust. Nothing can undo the deaths of the innocents on the train, nor can anything guarantee that Kevin will stop his criminal acts. The end... I (56f) separated from my husband (59m) almost three months ago, first legal separation. Every time I have left before, he always makes changes and I eventually go back. We have gone to counseling before, he has quit drinking, started treating me well, etc. He has not done anything since I left. I did discover in this process text messages (that he allowed me to read) between he and his sister. There are times i would speak with her, although I never trusted her, but just to get insight on her thoughts. I didn't realize what had actually been going on, which i don't know why I didn't see it before. They are both very negative people, had "The abuse" as she calls it while they grew up. I honestly feel like blaming the treatment of me on this is ridiculous. My siblings and I suffered mental and physical abuse from our bio father, and my mom made him leave when I was 9. I'm 56, I had therapy in my 30's and I dealt with it. My husband was 8 when his abusive father died. GTF over it.

And he demanded that money.
This entire time, his sister acts like she did no wrong. She sent ME texts about OUR money, I could not believe it. I honestly thought this was my last hope. Legally filing for separation, maybe he would finally listen and make the serious changes we needed.
The good news is, over this time apart, I have slowly come to process how poorly I have been treated for so many years. He always sided with anyone in his family over me. Yes, we are to blame if we paid money knowing very little of what is planned beyond “more”- BUT what is certain is that it’s lacking in content and is not worth the current price tag.
It’s no secret that the game is barebones; It’s not secret that the roster is lacking ….but it was a surprise to learn career was online only; or to learn that the gameplay was broken; or to learn that many career designs was poorly decided; or to learn that each new patch is introducing game killing bugs. It’s also been leaked (though not surprising) that this game was rushed out. Given those details, it begins to leave a bitter taste.
They continue to march around with their planned marketing posts on social media, while entirely ignoring the urgent issues that hit the game. There’s still zero communication on what is actually coming to the game, beyond a year long pass of cosmetics. We know more pro’s will be added, but that could mean 2 or it could mean 30. We know that they may introduce additional venues and we know that they are considering new modes…..but we know nothing about what is actually planned for the future of this game. It’s now taken over a week to fix major bugs that are impacting the actual gameplay in matches. Given their handling of communication, plus the baffling in-game design choices, and now their struggles with a hot fix….how much can we really trust them?

Days of sobriety turned into weeks, then into months and years. Success was mine. I was no longer a slave to alcohol and its attendant miseries. I felt I'd hit the Jackpot! And why not? Life was immearuably better now that I was sober, attending meetings, and had the 1st step under my belt.
I'd hear some in AA, fanatics I guess, talk about how "well if you don't do the steps you're gonna get drunk." Well, I haven't done the steps and I don't want to drink, so there, you holier than thou fellow drunk. The problem after all is alcohol -- and I understand that if I don't drink and attend meetings, and pray to have the obsession removed, I'll be fine.
I'd hear in meetings that "The 1st Step is the only one I can do perfectly," And to that I'd always say to myself, amen. I believed that for many years.
But I don't believe it anymore. I don't believe the 1st step can be done "perfectly."
No doubt those who say it can are referring to not picking up a drink today. And with that I wholly agree. But I see a far deeper meaning to the 1st step than when I came into AA, or even when I had double digit sobriety.
It's this thing in the Big Book about "Selfishness - self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles." Well, I for one didn't think that. Seflishness? Wth are you talking about? Well, it's a hundred forms of fear, etc. OK, but so what? I get how facing fears is good, but I honestly don't believe fear was the reason I drank. And again, what is this emphasis on selfishness about? Everybody is selfish. How am I more selfish than the next person? I don't take the biggest piece of cake. I'm kind to dogs and cats. I pay my bills. I'm not robbing orphanages. Why are you saying I'm selfish Bill? The accusation is so absurd I'm not even offended. Clearly Bill, this stuff about selfishness is just something you added on to the first 186 pages because you heard it from a psychologist or preacher. I suppose it's not harmful advice, but it really has nothing to do with not drinking and alcoholism.
But how wrong I was about that. Only took me decades in AA to begin to see it.
I may be partially excused for that oversight, and that's because it was fairly easy to see what a mess drinking had made of my life. The hangovers, the crashed cars, the despair. Hard to deny any of that. Easy to see that drinking was my problem.
But how very difficult it is to discern that one is selfish. Much, much more difficult to see. And why is it so difficult to see one's selfishness? Because he is selfish! The more selfish one is, the more unlikely they are to see it! The more selfish a person is, the more they're in a self-justifying closed loop.
This may be proved by thinking of someone you know who you believe to be exceptionally selfish. You can clearly see that person's selfishness. And they are very selfish, very probably, But they can't see it, not at all.
This is getting too long, so I'll sum up why this thing about selfishness is important for AA's to consider, if they are slow like me and haven't already considered it: Even if one doesn't pick up a drink, the effects of selfishness are myriad and matter very much to one's destiny in this short life we have. Selfishness might manifest itself in all kinds of chaos, in anger, in causing harms to others, in anxiety, in obsession with the past. Even in a persistent feeling of unrest. I've seen this in myself, and in my fellow AAs. All these ills and more are, I believe, rooted in selfishness, just as Bill so wisely wrote.
And so, for me, the 1st step isn't just about being powerless over alcohol, but also about being an alcoholic who, in one way or another, is far more prone to being selfish than the average person. If I had to do AA all over again, I'd take what Bill wrote about selfishness far more seriously. It pays dividends one must now miss out on.

Me, I was conscious of only one problem when I came to AA: I couldn't stop drinking. All I wanted from AA was a solution to my alcoholic drinking. I went in and out a few times until that fateful day when another alcoholic confronted me with the 1st step. This was the day the lights finally came on. In an instant, my entire relationship with drinking did a 180. I fully accepted the 1st step of Alcoholics Anonymous. That is, the stuff about being powerless over alcohol, about never being able to drink safely, about the physical allergy and the obsession of the mind. Yes! I see it now! And I intuited that all would be well if I just didn't drink one day at a time and was an active member of AA. And that intuition has so far been correct for the past 36 years.
