2024.05.28 03:29 Vegetable_Slip5267 Passport question

Background - my daughter (born 2016) was adopted by my husband in 2022. I have obtained 2 other passports for her since her birth (one original one with birth fathers info on birth certificate, one after changing her last name). I provided copies of my custody papers/name change certificate to obtain these. I have never had an issue.
The problem: I went to renew her passport back in march. I received a call Saturday from an agent at the passport office requesting my custody papers from 2016, and the order of adoption from 2022. She advised she could not put the passport through without these. The custody papers are basically void now since she has been adopted but I sent it anyway along with her name change certificate for extra assurance.
Today I received another call from the passport office requesting a long form birth certificate, as the one I provided at the office when I sent the application does not have mine and my husbands names on it. She is insisting this is required in addition to ALL of the other information I have already provided. I leave on holiday with my family in 3 weeks. I also live in a different province and to obtain a new long form certificate would be a nightmare/of course stretch way beyond the date we are supposed to leave. I know you can rush them, but the option with the parents listed is not eligible to be rushed.
I went onto the government of Canada website and it said proof of parentage can be a court order of adoption or the long form birth certificate.
Does it sound right that this agent at the passport office is requesting so much documentation, including papers that are not relevant at this point? If most people can submit just the birth certificate and that works why is the court order for the adoption not sufficient when it lists that on the website?
Any info is appreciated. I did the passports in advance of our trip purposely and have never encountered an issue so now I am very stressed

2024.05.28 03:19 AL_BLASTER PSU Compatibility

Hey all,
So I have a Seasonic Focus GX-750 ATX 3.0, and I was looking to see if this cable kit is compatible with my psu https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-rt-series-pro-modflex-sleeved-12vhpwr-dual-cable-kit-for-asus-and-seasonic/
I checked the compatibility list and saw that the "Focus GX-750" is listed on there, however I am not sure if that is the ATX 3.0 model that came out a few months ago or if it was for the non ATX 3.0 model.
Also, I got my psu off Amazon and it was listed as "Seasonic Focus V3 GX-750," I guess the "V3" is for the ATX 3.0 and PCIE 5.0 model, which the one without the "V3" is the non ATX 3.0 model. So I just want to be absolutely sure that my psu model is compatible with this cable kit.
Here is the link to the psu I got on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-Full-Modular-Warranty-Application-SSR-750FX3/dp/B0C5B6PXJ7/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3IKNK2I026XKB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.tpdBNCTSmUPq-iOId3UzlNbTQRkPqq2cn70qdTIchp3XzZ-yC2sBjK5DAA874j0Wif6iYCkr62HvlWVvysngK0U068qS2hxt4zYdSyWq7IRcGg1_mK4z6_McwSq5j5YBF-lujyw3EVKNMfbG7ZjogPv5PBCrj9dT1mhERk9hqdL3j8skImTqcDLgqPsMZUFB1_EVZsc4L0tULubg-s7EqXVr_KZco99Yy-gi7lEICLM.uhdcGnYHnmqbuOJm7kvuRfwyNs8bgimri6-psmb1i3M&dib_tag=se&keywords=seasonic%2Bfocus%2Bgx-750&qid=1716858649&sprefix=seasonic%2Bfocu%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-3&th=1
If however my psu is NOT compatible, I wonder if a 16-pin to 16-pin PCIE cable is compatible with my psu since I heard that ALL 12vhrpwr to 12vhpwr cables are universal, and that any 12vhpwr to 12vhrpwr cable can work with ANY psu model (as long as it is ATX 3.0).
Here is the link to the 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr cable https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-rt-series-pro-modflex-sleeved-12vhpwr-pci-e-cable-for-asus-and-seasonic/

2024.05.28 03:16 Deep_Caregiver_5482 Chess24 had the best tournament viewing/tracking experience and Chess.com absolutely ruined it.

Basically the title.
For a while now I've felt that chess.com's tournament interface is lacking, but today I went to check the results of Norway Chess 2024 and the state of that page is atrocious. You click on the results, there's a narrow sidebar that's 1/5th of your screen with a bizarre choice of formatting; you click on schedule, it gives you a link to a stream or back to the games tab; you want to see the standings, tough luck, just says "Current Round: 19 / 20;" wtf is this? THIS is the best they can do?
Chess24 had everything. It was absolutely amazing when it came to tracking tournaments. Everything was simple and clear, and you could find the most obscure tournaments listed there. They bought it and THIS is what we get?
End rant.

2024.05.28 03:12 Smooth-Put-9228 New Cosmo JrTrackr3 User: Initial Reaction, Questions & Feature Requests

I’m on week 1 of our watch for our AU kiddo, and I LOVE a lot about this watch. But there’s a good bit I hope to see improved in the near future. I opted for the most expensive monthly plan (min 3 mos) before we go all in.
So far, I really like that the watch is EXCLUSIVLEY a GPS watch with calling and texting. No internet, no social media, no radio… and no games. There are timers, a calculator, voice memos, and kid-quality photos and videos (which suits our needs). It’s interesting enough to keep our kid’s interest, but doesn’t have risks or distractions most others do. 🙌
The watch band was a breeze to change (didn’t require a pin tool), and the straps actually are tight enough to fit my petite kid’s wrist. There’s still some kinks to work out, and tomorrow we really put it to the test.
Overall, I’m very happy with it. I have quite a few questions still, and a “wish list” of recommendations for the company to consider. I’m waiting on a reply for an update to fix the problematic GPS, which still worries me. I’ll try to update once we use it more. If you use the watch, please share your tips for a newbie like me. Hope my thoughts and questions below are helpful to some, and I’d love Cosmo to take some of these suggestions to heart if possible. Overall, a GREAT product for our needs! —— ❓QUESTIONS❓
WATER RESISTANCE 🏊: - why must you advise against swimming if it’s IP68? To be IP68 it needs to be at least one meter deep for at least 30 mins (COULD be between 30 mins and 4 hours.) Why shouldn’t a kid in floaties wear it if only swimming for about a half an hour? - my issue is, I don’t EVER want my kid to take their watch off without me there, ever. If they swim for 30 mins at camp, she’s losing it, or forgetting it in her bag or elsewhere…
ADDITIONAL WARRANTY: - I was excited to be offered this when activating our watch. For something like 2.99/mo we have extra insurance against water damage, damage, theft/loss! - how does this work? Is there a deductible or any “watch outs”? Is it via Cosmo or a 3rd party? (Does anyone have any experiences to share?)
GPS - it’s pretty glitchy, and “lost” my kid for something like 2 hours and TOTALLY missed her two hours at school… — it saw her leave home, then nothing while on her way to school (at all), and NEVER saw her at school (at all), only to “find” her hours later at the afterschool program. 😳 — what’s worse, I COULD see MYSELF in the cosmo app when I was at school with her! So, my VZN phone (even in semi dead zone) saw me in the guardian app, but never my child. - THIS IS VERY CONCERNING, but I hear Cosmo is aware of it and planning an update to the Guardian App (?) to fix this… 🤔 (isn’t the issue that the GPS on the watch wasn’t working, not the app, since it’s also not in her history?)
SYNCING/Real Time Changes not Updating: -when I turn off, or adjust the time for a “school mode”, it does not update on her watch. How can I push an update to it flashes to match the admin settings? —this has been a big issue. I suddenly NEED to message my kid, and I’d left it on school mode. I turn it off, but the watch never recognizes the change.
SOS MODE: - it CANNOT be turned off? (Only auto after 15 min timeout?) - how can we allow the child to text at least in SOS mode? (This was a big complaint on many forums from people encouraging others to stay away from Cosmo, because they felt SOS handicapped access and in the event GPS isn’t tracking right, there’s no way to help or communicate with the child.) - Will SOS mode work while in school mode?
GROUP TEXTING: -We have 3 guardians. I sent a group text from my iPhone, and it looked like it worked. But on her watch, it ONLY showed as from me(mom). How do I get group texts to actually work as group texts on her phone?
BATTERY LIFE: - does WiFi hurt or help battery life? - is there a power reserve mode if needed?
——-
🙏🏻 REQUESTS 🙏🏻
PLEASE IMPROVE THE ACCURACY AND REFRESH RATE OF THE GPS (super important, see issue above)
ALLOW “RECENT” EMOJIS & PRESETS: can you program a future update to “remember” the most recently used presets and emojis, like a phone does? So they don’t have to scroll down a million times accidentally clicking the wrong items along the way? (My kid says it’s too hard to type a text, so only uses the voice memo to reply. She’s right, it’s clunky…) —ideally, she could talk-text but that’s probably too sophisticated and requires a “Siri” like tool.
WE NEED MORE MODES: We need more modes on the watch. —We need a “bedtime” mode - where nothing works except maybe texts/calls to guardians (it’s clunky to set TWO extra school modes for AM and PM, but that blocks ALL contacts and features.) - please KEEP school mode, I think this is a great feature! - we need a DND or Study Mode, that the adult OR child can turn on (but PARENTS MUST BE ABLE TO OVERRIDE IF NEEDED), so they’re not disturbed while attending something like: church, sports practice, studying
ADD GUARDIAN ACCESS TO CONTENT: - give guardians access content on the watch, like all the silly voice memos, selfies, etc. remotely? - allow guardians the option to see what is being said between “contacts”? - how will guardians know when their kid has filled up their watch storage with too many blurry selfies and silly voice clips? - PLEASE enable guardian control over settings like volume, vibration, etc… —- and add these controls as options within each “MODE” (we need more modes, see below)
LISTEN IN: (controversial, I know… hear me out) - we need a way to listen in, outside of the SOS (BUT AGAIN, I feel you really NEED to ALSO enable communication DURING and SOS, it’s a huge hindrance and reason for avoidance from many parents on AU forums… 😉) —the LISTEN IN feature should NOT be built into the school mode. (This is because it’s a privacy violation for some… hear me out…) —- INSTEAD: you need to enable a guardian to listen in (discretely, without the watch face making it obvious, and without the guardian’s voice being heard), SO a parent can listen in if their child is as a PUBLIC place (park, field, public transportation) - where there are NO PRIVACY RIGHTS/expectations/risks/etc., but so we can know our special needs child is safe, around safe people and making safe choices in PUBLIC places. —- NOTE: obviously, there ARE other watches that offer the listen in: namely AngelCare, TickTalk, Spysite, etc… Just make sure you maintain encrypted channels for “listen in” or “live listening”, AND, make your PRIVACY policy crystal clear. (There are trusted companies and magazines who now encourage people to buy alternatives to Angel merely because Angel Watch doesn’t have a “posted privacy” policy… I guess people assume that means they’re listening in, storing, etc… which is unlikely and gross.) ——-BUT, we do NEED a listen in option or “auto answer” guardian controlled setting for when they’re in a public place and we aren’t entirely sure they’re being adequately supervised or safe.
LOCKING BAND: - we need a locking band option for special needs kiddos who may take the watches off, or be bullied and have them taken off of them. - these exist and are available for other watches (including Angel Watch), and the hardware looks cheap if you buy it by the 100 qty on Alibaba. Sadly, I just need one. - similar watches with this security feature (which is standard if you opt into your local police’s program, but they use a non-removable bracelet or anklet… so those with autism, Dimentia, etc. cannot take them off.) - GPS watches offering these include Angel Watch, Tranquil, Theora, EO5 in Asia, etc.) Theirs seem made for the standard 20mm silicone strap, so I’d love to see this as an add-on. 👉It could be a real differentiator and alllw Cosmo to market themselves to those on ASD who elope, or those with Alzheimer’s or dimentia…😉 Will add photos if I can in comments…

2024.05.28 03:10 No_Faithlessness2998 Moments like this where the name rings true

With the usb-c cable not having the ability to go fully in, due to the strange depth of the port, the audio just ducks out sometimes. Not to mention the crackling in the right channel whenever it’s on for more than an hour.

2024.05.28 03:10 Express-Front2572 Shipping to OCS in a month

I am contracted to go to OCS July 1st. I’ve basically been jerking off at college the past 6 months (I’m a student athlete so I’m in good shape) but I haven’t trained for OCS specifically or ran at all in half a year. I know I was being a dumbass and I should’ve thought of this earlier but I’m here now. Assuming I haven’t prepared at all, what do I do to train for the next month. Current PFT is max pull-ups, max plank, 25 minute run. Contract PFT was Max everything except 20 minute run.
Secondly, any good running shoe recommendations, I just have ultraboosts right now for training and hoka carbon plates for races and PFTs. What should I bring that I won’t find on the OCS packing list?

2024.05.28 03:05 Verdant-Sunflower [Partially Lost] seapalsworld.com

Recently I was looking on a couple subreddits for information on a Webkinz type game I played as a kid and ended up coming across seapalsworld.com as what I was looking for on a tip of my tongue type subreddit. I immediately recognized the website name and felt excited that I had my answer so I googled it, and was even more excited when I saw the title screen and recognized that as well.
However, after I saw that I was pretty disappointed because I kept looking and saw basically nothing else about the website or the plushes related to it. There’s barely any evidence of the website even existing. Internet archive has only a few dozen snapshots and none of them that I tried seemed to take me beyond the title screen with the music.
I found one YouTube channel that has some clips of a couple of the mini games and those seemed slightly familiar to me as well as a couple videos discussing the plushies, but there is so much out there on it that seems to be lost which is so bizarre. I don’t know how such much about the game was never documented. I feel like I remember there being a grocery shopping mini game too but take that with a grain of salt because I could be misremembering.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else on here is interested in this or if anyone happens to have anything else they’ve found related to documenting this website. It’s very nostalgic for me and I’m also just kind of mind boggled by the lack of information on the internet.

2024.05.28 03:02 nyoengland Gakuen Idolm@ster: First Impressions

It's been a few days since the first event and two weeks or so since release, so I think it's a fair time to post a quick review for Gakuen Idolm@ster (will be called Gakumas for the rest of the review). Gakumas is part of the Idolm@ster franchise, which has other games such as Starlight Stage (Deresute), but it's an entirely new branch which makes it very easy to get into. It's developed by QualiArts of Idoly Pride fame.
Gameplay
For context, I've played a lot of 'idol games' (all the Love Live ones, Bang Dream, D4DJ, Proseka, Deresute etc), but don't go into Gakumas looking for the rhythm game experience. The closest comparison by far is Uma Musume in terms of gameplay, making it a training roguelike. Unfortunately, like UmaMusu, it's entirely in Japanese, though it's gameplay is easier to understand if you don't speak Japanese vs UmaMusu. In fact, a lot of aspects from UmaMusu are borrowed to great effect here. You have five support cards and borrow one from a friend, and at the end of each run, you obtain a "memory" which is used as inheritance to boost later runs in terms of skill cards and stats. You can borrow a memory from a friend, though it's capped at thrice a day.
It differs from UmaMusu in several aspects though. As someone who played UmaMusu for about two years, the speed of each run is very much appreciated. Once you've gotten the hang of things, each run is about 15 minutes, and only has two "final stages". The final stages involve you trying to beat 5 other NPCs's scores to achieve first place. Another aspect is the skill card system: you get 3 cards each turn to choose from that'll grant you a myriad of effects, and these rotate out each turn from a set pool that you can expand on during the run. One skill card is tied to a support, and one to the girl you're producing. You access more skill cards and bonus items as you level up your player rank, and gain more skill cards during the run through various means.
Girls are separated into "sense" and "logic" types. Base gameplay is the same but there are notable differences when it comes to how score is gained, e.g. "sense" idols tend to have consistent damage across turns, whereas "logic" is further split into two categories: DoT or powering up across turns to hit very high numbers on the last few turns. Support cards can mostly be used for each type; SSR supports can be used for every type. There are three attributes: Vocal, Dance, and Visual; typical Idolm@ster stuff.
Gacha
Base rate of 5%, which is quite generous in comparison to other idol games. Rateup...not so much, as Produce SSR and Support SSR share a pool, unlike UmaMusu. Each pull is 2,500 jewels. For example, the Produce SSR rate is at 2%, and we have a 0.75% for Ivy Temari, the current rateup. It's a Japanese gacha, so no pity, though the spark is at 200. At the moment there are 2 gachas running: the permanent banner, and the rate up banner. Permament banner has no time limit and has spark as well...unfortunately, the "free tickets" are limited to only said permanent banner and cannot be used on the rateup banner. SSRs are all good to an extent, and the SRs are very much viable. Uncaps/dupes matter to an extent for Support SSRs but are not as crucial as UmaMusu's dupes. Dupes don't matter as much for Produce SSRs.
Sidenote: there's also a coin gacha which gives some good stuff, including a Sense welfare SSR and a Logic welfare SSR. You get these coins through runs and the event shop.
Reroll
Despite the myriad of fast reroll methods we've gotten as of late (World Flipper and Uma Musume come to mind), this one is the fastest I've ever done. One minute per reroll after the tutorial. I'd advise you to spend your 2,500 red jewels on the rate up banner, as the character and support card are very strong, and then try your luck with the tickets on the permanent banner. Support SSRs should be prioritised, and you can pick an SSR girl of your choice. Given how fast the reroll is, I'd advise on at least 2 Support SSRs; the rate up Produce SSR is very strong and is easy to do runs with. Later on, you can receive 2 SSR tickets through missions and such. Game8 has a tier list, and there's one in the fan discord for reference.
Events and Rewards
Events are the backbone of most idol/idol adjacent games, and Gakumas is no exception. It should be noted that the current event was extended when it was released as the devs noted that the original length (1 week) would be too short, and this was the correct decision. Currently, we are given a welfare SSR which can be fully uncapped. Still, it's rather grindy, especially given that Gakumas is fully manual. The event shop is good and provides decent materials for you to grab, but the jewel rewards, while not terrible, leave something to be desired. Of course, it can be argued that we're still in the very early days of service, so hopefully we're given more ways to gain currency. 50 for daily, 200 for weekly. You get a sizeable amount of jewels in the beginner missions/early achievement unlocks.
PVP
Thankfully, negligible. You get a small amount of rewards but if you're like me and detest it, it's easily ignored. Kind of ironic given that the original Idolm@ster (I mean the old 2005 arcade game) had PVP as a prominent aspect but I'm more glad than anything I can ignore it lol
Graphics
Honestly, QualiArts's strength is in the character models and they don't pull any punches here. Idoly Pride, their previous game, has very good looking models that photograph and move well in their 3DMV mode, and their track record continues here. There's been a lot of buzz on JPTwitter about how Gakumas's models can stand up to extreme zoom, and it's not unwarranted. I'm running the game on my 2020 iPhone SE and other than overheating after an hour of play or so, it runs well on high graphics. Has an 60fps option as well.
Music, voice acting
No big name seiyuus here, but the girls are all voiced very well. Each girl has a signature song, with one (Temari) receiving another in lieu of her rate up banner, so we're assuming that with each rate up, each girl gets a new song. For their music, Gakumas brings in a wide variety of people, from the popular Vocaloid producer Giga, to Arthur Verocai, a famous Brazilian arranger, which reflects in the quality and range of their songs. They're all on their official YouTube channel here. My personal favourites are Sumika's 'Tame-Lie-One-Step' and Rinami's 'clumsy trick' to name a few.
Charmingly, the girls's final performances alter on how successful your run was. If your run was not so great, they will dance poorly, sing poorly (afaik seiyuus recorded separate "bad singing" tracks) and their facial animations will look stiff.
TL:DR Like UmaMusu in many ways, but isn't a shameless copycat; it understands how the formula works and why, and builds on it to create a solid foundation. The game is generating a lot of positive attention in JP, and while Idolm@ster is notoriously unported to the Western speaking world, Gakumas is by far the most accessible entry yet.

Hello SFFPC community!
I have been a longtime ATX builder for my entire life, but have recently wanted to switch to an SFF build after falling in love with its small footprint. I have no experience with building SFF rigs, and I will be downsizing from a full ATX build. I have tried my very best to cut costs as much as possible, and I would like to ensure that I am 100% confident with my research before I buy any parts. I'd like to ask the community for help as you all are much more proficient and experienced than I am.
My case of choice is the SSUPD Meshroom S V2. I will be trying to fit the following components into the case.

Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi
GPU: XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD RX 6950XT (340mm x 139mm x 57mm)
PSU: Corsair SF850L
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12S
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz CL16 4x16

I believe that everything listed above should be compatible in theory, but there are a few things worth mentioning before buying the case and the new PSU.
Firstly, the GPU length is 340mm and is 2.5 slots wide. The product listing states that the case supports up to 343mm length GPUs, but the online manual states that with an ATX build it can support a maximum of 335mm length GPUs with extra feet. This felt sketchy and somewhat misleading, so I wanted to be absolutely sure. This leads into my next issue.
Secondly, there seems to be a lot of discussion online about the accessories needed for this case. For one, the included riser cable seems to be unreliable at best, and buying an aftermarket, longer cable would be almost necessary to make this build work. Regarding the extra feet needed in the case, it was not inherently clear whether it would be included with the case on Amazon or if I needed to purchase it separately. I may have missed this when browsing the listing, but I would like to get some confirmation on this.
Thirdly, there are concerns whether the CPU cooler would be adequate for my chosen CPU. This is a smaller concern, as I do care a lot about thermals and noise level. I plan to undervolt my components anyways to ensure greater power efficiency, but I would still like the peace of mind that the Noctua cooler would be adequate for my CPU.
Lastly, the PSU is of SFX-L format. This may also be something that I don't need to worry about, but I was wondering if it might be worthwhile to specifically find a PSU in SFX form factor, or if SFX-L is fine with the parts I plan on using.

My main goal is to downsize the PC while buying as few parts as possible. This means that I will favor any solutions that would allow me to keep my current motherboard, as buying a new, smaller ITX motherboard would mean I have leftover parts I don't have plans for recycling. However, the end goal is to have a computer small enough for transport and packs the power that I'm used to, so I plan to downsize my rig in the end, no matter what. Costs are obviously a huge factor, but I plan to use this rig for the foreseeable future, and I'm willing to shell out a few hundred clams to make this build work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
There is no immediate rush to build this PC right now. I would like to be as thorough as possible before purchasing any parts. It would be devastating to buy all the parts, begin building, only to find out that one or multiple components are just a few millimeters too long to be fully supported and compatible.

That's about all I have for now. I will be checking this post often to answer any questions. Please educate me, I'll be in your care. Thank you!

2024.05.28 02:59 branded How can I hide the password/client secret value in this script that checks the status of and Azure MARS agent job?

Hello all,
Feel free to use this powershell script, it works perfectly to check the status of Azure MARS Agent backup jobs. I need help with it though. I need to hide the client secret value ($password). Is there a way to do this by using the placeholder option in the EXE/Script Advanced sensor? I've tried playing around with it and can't get it to work. Thanks.
# Save this script as Check-AzBackupJobs.ps1 # Service Principal credentials $appId = "HIDDEN" $password = "HIDDEN" $tenantId = "HIDDEN" $subscriptionId = "HIDDEN" # Securely convert the password to a secure string $securePassword = ConvertTo-SecureString -String $password -AsPlainText -Force # Create a PSCredential object $credential = New-Object -TypeName System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -ArgumentList $appId, $securePassword # Connect to Azure with Service Principal Connect-AzAccount -ServicePrincipal -Credential $credential -TenantId $tenantId -SubscriptionId $subscriptionId # Function to create PRTG output XML function Create-PRTG-XML { param ( [int]$jobCount, [int]$failedJobs, [int]$successfulJobs ) $xml = @" Job Count $jobCount Failed Jobs $failedJobs Successful Jobs $successfulJobs "@ return $xml } # Retrieve the specific Recovery Services vault $vault = Get-AzRecoveryServicesVault -ResourceGroupName "HIDDEN" -Name "HIDDEN" if ($vault -eq $null) { Write-Error "The specified vault was not found. 2024.05.28 02:57 thywillbedone116 Help me pick my next travel card!

I never really paid attention to waht cards I have to optimize my money (be it rewards or cashback), but this site has helped me take this more into consideration and I am working on changing that. I typically travel 2-3 times a year (1 international, 1 domestic, 1 domestic/international) so I was leaning towards making my next card a travel card. Especially as I have a payment for a cruise coming up in August I have to pay for that should basically guarantee I get the subs.
I am also open to just suggestions in general to optimize my "card portfolio" if you guys have any suggestions, but mostly leaning towards a Travel card.

UW/W GPA and Rank: no ranks, 3.96 UW
Coursework: AP/IB/Dual Enrollment classes, AP/IB scores, etc
honestly this might be my weakest portion, haven't really challenged myself in comparison to others at my school because I didn't care about maxing out classes but am decently off, gotten a couple B's though
School doesn't allow many AP's but offers AP equivalent classes- only actual AP junior year is bio
got all 4's sophomore year- ended up in a hospital for rest of the year the day after my last exam so kinda have an excuse??
have taken a lot of online courses for skills for internships/personal projects, well-versed in MATLAB/ Python
Awards:
  1. USABO Semifinalist
2. Science Olympiad- ~16x top-6 placements across all tournaments + 2x top-10 team in state
  1. FRC- captain + winner of regional competition + alliance membewinner of NE District, 3x World Champs Qualifier
  2. DECA- Top-6 in state, ICDC qualifier but didn't attend (biotech-business intersection)
  3. AP Scholar w/ Distinction 😭 not really sure what else to put- could spread out my scioly awards??
Might get an award from my school so other option there? Also might start a quiz bowl/ Brain Bee offshoot from scioly next year? probably get an award from that
Extracurriculars: Include leadership & summer activities
President of Science Olympiad- pretty big commitment, raised 10K+ for club through fundraisers + sponsorships, lead STEM workshops to boost membership 300%, started middle school team w/ 45 members, 3x executive board member (12th-pres). Past two years have been the first time we've ever placed in the top-10 for state.

Carpentry- have local shop where I create custom furniture/ decorative pieces, ~ $2000 made
Soccer - 8 years of club + 4x varsity starter. Also referee and coached youth team for 2 years (200ish volunteer hours?), got them from 2-6 to 8-1 record
Religious group- student mentor to 40 kids, weekly meetings teaching them about it. more impactful than how I'm writing about it, but don't really feel like expanding.
2nd Internship- not really sure what I'm doing this summer, lost focus and didn't lock an opportunity down + fumbled all my summer program apps- will figure something out though
Puzzles- write puzzles for school newspaper and am a huge fan of them- have a 4 year streak on NYT Crosswords for reference, also some competitive cubing records.
not super impactful ec's:
Treasurer for nonprofit branch at my school, organized fundraisers to raise $500 for books for schools in Malawi.
DECA- don't really do anything for it, just show up and compete? Have participated in fundraisers for it to help w travel costs, not really anything other than comp awards
Student Council- don't do too much this either, but am on it and occasionally run an event for it
also shadowed at a Biotech company for a couple weeks but didn't do a lot, volunteered at a bunch of random things for hours for NHS, do a lot of odd jobs (lawn-mowing, tutoring, basic handyman stuff, etc),
Essays/LORs/Other: Optionally, guess how strong these are and include any other relevant information or circumstances.
no clue- asked my best options for rec letters, english teacher and I joke a lot, hopefully shows personality, bio (scioly advisor too) shows accomplishments? I feel like I have some pretty good ideas for my essays that connect to my story and spike, we'll see what the actual result is
Schools: List of colleges, ED/EA/RD, etc
my ed's are stressing me- currently like gt, duke, and jhu -> duke and jhu offer ed1, jhu offers ed2, gt only offers ea. I like jhu the best but would be really happy at duke too, do I ed1 hopkins or ed1 duke and ed2 hopkins??
JHU/Duke - ED1
CMU/JHU - ED2?
GT- EA
Bing or Stony Brook - EA
Boston University
UPenn
CWRU
UIUC
UMich
Cornell
Northwestern
also need help with the early/regular divide for applications and suggestions/swaps for the list please!!

2024.05.28 02:56 kgaviation Why Are Some of My Videos More Popular Than Others?

I’m gonna just guess that the answer is gonna be the “algorithm,” but it amazes me how some of my videos perform so much better than others end most of my videos are the same exact format.
I run an aviation YouTube (hence my profile name) where I post in-flight videos. Theres many other YouTubers who post similar style videos as I do. However, one thing I’ve never understood, but noticed a lot is how videos I think will be more popular don’t tend to be as popular as others and vice versa. Like some of my best content gets much fewer views than some of my worse content or less interesting content.
For example, I posted a video where I flew through the total solar eclipse last month. It did okay, but not nearly as popular as I thought it would be. Other just basic flights I’ve uploaded have blown that one out of the water in terms of views and likes.
If it helps, I also run a separate related Instagram account under the same name as my YouTube channel (and name here), so all of my content gets advertised exactly the same every time. Same goes for the YouTube community page.
Thoughts?

2024.05.28 02:53 TheCrushSoda My brand new Fender P-Bass’s pickups were defective and stopped working. Anything like this ever happened to you all?

So you can kind of trace this story in my recent posts but I got a beautiful buttercream P-Bass for myself, loved it until it stopped working a day or two later.
At that point I took it back to L&M (the Canadian GuitarCenter basically) and say “I think the pickup died” and the mechanic kind of laughs and says “that never happens, it’s probably the input jack” and then of course it works there. This sucks because I feel like an idiot, he says “it’s probably just the cable”. Obviously I tested the cable and the amp and tried the bass with my guitar amp and nothing but now I seem like a fool. Take it home and it doesn’t work, of course, take it to another room and it does. Nothing is making sense.
So I made another post here asking if sometimes something just doesn’t “work” in a certain room because I was so confused. Some people tried to offer advice but it was a stupid question and post in general. It stops working again so I drive it back to L&M and thank god it doesn’t work there either so I seem less crazy.
So they’re dealing with it, the mechanics called me a few days later and surprise the pickup was defective, like I thought. So they’re ordering me a new one from Fender and have honestly been pretty awesome this whole time, even hooked me up with a rental P Bass that’s worth about $1000 more than the one I bought so that’s fun, been loving the American Pro but yeah, what a wild journey. My defective bass was straight from the box too so it wasn’t even on the wall, probably why no one noticed it didn’t work but yeah!
Anyone had any issue like this with any of the major brands? I’m lucky it happened early and L&M have done such a good job dealing with it (though I could have done without the snark from the first mechanic I talked to)

2024.05.28 02:48 Inheritedwhiskey Anyone interested in running a sweepstakes like 80eighty.com? I have the giveaway prize worth $200,000 ... estimated we'll make $1,000,000 by end of the year. I'm located in Florida. Please serious inquiries only. Once in a lifetime I promise.

I have a prize that's worth $200k and is very popular I want to run a sweepstakes like alot of these car giveaways do. But ours would be the first of its kind! Everybody would want it every kid, every adult, every grandma and grandpa would buy for their grandchildren. 80eighty.com made 14 million last year from their sweepstakes, they make about 1 million from each sweepstakes they run, im almost certain its almost double. Me and my wife were in the process of doing this we bought a domain applied for business license and found a web designer. We would easily be able to run adds all over Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. My cousin has a YouTube channel she does for kids with around 800,000 subscribers I can possibly have her run our ad on her channel.
We had an unfortunate situation my wife recently got really sick and we just can't afford it, I was gonna list my " prize" for auction but figured I'd ask if anyone wants to partner up..it's killing me that I'm not able to do this, I'm willing to bank my $200,000 prize on it, I can almost guarantee you we can make over 1 million from running this sweepstakes I can explain more how it works its very simple and we can start receiving money right away. I know 100% this will be a huge hit, because nobody has ever thought about giving away what I have it'll be a massive success. I owned an online adult toy store in 2018 I know first hand how well Google ads work.
I'm not saying what my item item is to prevent someone stealing the idea. If you are in Florida and serious you are welcome to come over see what I have and talk more about this.

2024.05.28 02:47 bakedbread7 Google business not showing in google search

Hi guys,
I can see a couple of other posts about this topic but I'm still a bit stuck. I have been going back and forth with Google support seeking help and getting nowhere. They are quite possibly the worst support team I have ever dealt with.
My business is new and the GMB was created around 6 or so months ago. I have added photos, description, website link, social link. Most of what I know to be standard practice. There are even a few reviews there.
It will show up on google maps when you search it but not google search. I will also mention that it's not a business with a physical address so I have put the location as regions we serve. The website is currently also a basic contact page. However, another business I run has had no troubles indexing on google without a website in the past.
Here is the listing: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GXJLuDSUdhtGnELV6
Thanks in advance for your help!

2024.05.28 02:46 DoradoPulido2 BetterHelp is to mental health what McDonald's is to nutrition

Wanted to share my experience with BetterHelp for anyone who is thinking about using their service.
BetterHelp is to mental health what McDonald's is to nutrition. It offers a relatively cheap, quick alternative for people seeking therapy who may not have access or time for traditional methods. It is like putting a band-aid on huge wound that is the mental health crisis in the United States, where millions of people cannot adequately access therapists and psychiatrists either due to insurance problems or a literal lack of professionals in their area. Rather than solving a massive problem, BetterHelp is taking advantage of people who deserve proper treatment.
Personally I tried for months to access a therapist through my insurance (Kaiser). Just getting through to a person and then finally past the initial stigma of being questioned over "Why do you need therapy?" they finally told me it would be a three month wait just for an intake appointment and the office would be 1.5 hours away from my home. So I thought instead I would try BetterHelp which is advertised EVERYWHERE.
My experience was horrible. I initially selected a therapist and began messaging with them in our initial contact. I wanted to get right to the point so I began sharing some very difficult information about my life. Right away this therapist surprised me by stating they would be leaving on a 3 week vacation and wouldn't be able to do video conversations until then. Of course, my billing through BetterHelp wouldn't pause. Since I had just started using the service, I politely told them I would be selecting another therapist that was available. They never even responded back.
I matched with another therapist and starting messaging with them like before. We were scheduled for weekly, 1 hour video talks. It was a bit off putting that I would write a couple paragraphs about my life and they might reply with only a simply sentence. I didn't want to overload a person with information so I was greatly looking forward to our video conversations. When our appointment came up, I took time off work and made sure I was home and free to talk to them. When I tried to connect on the app, there was no response. I tried messaging them and no response.
Later that day they messaged me back and said that they accidently missed the appointment and were sorry, that we would talk during the next scheduled appointment. At this point I had been paying for BetterHelp for over 2 weeks and not talked to a real person other than receiving a few text replies like "how did that make you feel?" etc. I continued messaging with my therapist and receiving these type of replies. I would tell them about something horrible that had happened to me such as losing a family member and they would provide a canned response like "Do you still think about this often?". For all I know I could have been chatting with an AI. Finally the third week came and I looked forward to my FIRST video chat with an actual person. I felt like this was "meeting" my therapist for the first time. When the time for the appointment came up, my therapist messaged me beforehand telling me they would have to reschedule our appointment for the next week because something had come up.
So now, 3 weeks and $300 later I had still not had a video or phone chat with a real therapist. During this time I had literally only received less than a dozen sentences in text responses from these professionals. I contacted BetterHelp's support team and asked for a refund. They refused and told me the best they could do was offer 1 free week of service going forward. After seeing what a week of their service was worth, I gave up. I never heard back from my therapist. I cancelled my service and of course received pre-programmed emails from BetterHelp's customer service asking "How was your conversation with -?" and of course after answering that it was unsatisfactory, I never received any follow up from anyone.
BetterHelp doesn't care how their service is helping you beyond how it affects their repeat visits. I tried them for almost a month, barely was able to talk to anyone and it didn't matter. I wasn't a client for them. I wasn't a real person. I was just a statistic on their app, adding to their revenue stream. I have since found out that like traditional in-person therapy, many of these professionals are overburdened with clients and take on more than they can really give their attention to. It is hard to describe how difficult it is to try to open up to someone about very painful parts of your life only to be shuffled by a system that can't bother to fit you into the schedule.
I have a friend who is a licensed therapist and registered nurse. He works through BetterHelp and his own private practice office. While I think he is a great guy and really cares about his patients (He left working in an ER to focus on a speciality type of therapy) it is concerning that he started taking BetterHelp clients on top of his already full, in-person, client list at his office. I know his schedule and don't understand how someone who was previously working 8-10 hours a day at his office can conceivably take more clients virtually - except that these virtual clients become back-burner income for his office which can be placated with basic responses and predetermined messages. These messages can be literally copy-pasted but as long as they meet the criteria of the app, they get paid and the client gets charged.
Many of the therapists on BetterHelp already have a full load of in-person clients. The patients on BetterHelp are not getting the kind of attention they need and deserve. BetterHelp basically becomes a gig job for therapists, like Uber or Grubhub, which they can use to supplement their income. This is problematic because it incentivises taking more clients than normal and completing a virtual checklist rather than connecting in a real way with a person to provide mental health care. BetterHelp effectively creates a game for therapists where they click the right buttons and get paid whether the client was helped or not. At least with real, in-person visits a therapist has to look a person in the eyes and come up with a response.
I just want people to take a look and realize that apps like BetterHelp are not the answer to the mental health problems we have. This is the illusion of a solution which reduces people to a number's game while tech-bros get rich off your pain and anguish. On top of all this, they share your information with third party marketing. The FTC says "From 2013 to December 2020... BetterHelp continually broke these privacy promises, monetizing consumers’ health information to target them and others with advertisements for the Service." In short, they are out to make money off the hardest parts of your life, not help you.

2024.05.28 02:43 HALscape I'm diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly Multiple Personality Disorder). AMA

DID is a disorder that occurs as the result of repeated early childhood trauma and results in amnesia, identity alteration/confusion, and other symptoms. A quick Internet search can give you the rundown of the full symptom list and how the disorder develops; I'm more here to talk about my experiences of living with the disorder. I also have several friends with DID whose experiences differ from my own in many ways, and have helped me understand my own experiences better.
As a note, I'm not here to talk in detail about my trauma, just about the disorder it gave me. I don't think anyone needs to read that, haha. I don't mind giving basic information but not much more than that.
I think DID is commonly mythologised even within DID spaces online, and the disorder can appear much more subtle than one might expect. I'm almost 30 and was only diagnosed recently, nobody had any idea something was wrong with me growing up; it took me a long time to get referred to a psychologist, and even longer for her to refer me to someone who could actually assess and diagnose me. I walked in there fully expecting to be told that it was "just" complex PTSD, came back in a few months and was told it was DID lol.
I'm not an expert on DID, just on my own experience with it, but I've done a lot of research over the past decade as I tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Ask away.
