Hi everyone. I (24F) have spent the last 2 months working at a large consulting agency as a Graduate ESG Consultant. Before this, I graduated from London College of Fashion where I studied BA Creative Direction for Fashion and worked in several strategy and sales related roles before graduating last summer.
I'm currently on a very low salary - coming to £28,000 a year - and really want to look into advancing my career prospects. I studied A Level Economics, History and Politics but unfortunately didn't do very well in my exams due to personal reasons so I don't really feel like I have much of a leg to stand on.
I want to be successful while doing something I feel somewhat fulfilled by and think consulting would be the best career for me to continue pursuing in that respect. Having said that, I get the feeling having little academic success or knowledge outside of the fashion industry will eventually leave me at a disadvantage considering my colleagues have been to Oxbridge/Russel Group universities and are very, very bright.
What are my options for getting myself up to par with my colleagues, to enhance my prospects as a consultant and to generally become smarter and a better critical thinker? Would it be retaking my A Levels or doing another undergraduate degree in economics, finance or business? Would it be doing an MBA or masters degree related to the aforementioned subjects (I mention these subjects because their combination of economic theory and quantitative analysis is applicable to a lot of the work I currently do)? Is there anything I can do in my free time aside from reading articles and watching the news?
If anyone has any pointed advice they could give me I would really appreciate it. I feel quite lost at the moment and really regret squandering away my secondary education and prospects of doing a better degree because I feel like I've put myself at a disadvantage, and I really want to turn this around.

Looking at tool bags as I'm restructuring my kit, and the devil is always in the details for what slots they have for the tools you use. What is your favorite tool bag and why?
Bonus points if also you include a tool you can't live without or found far more useful than you thought in your electrical bag. What's the system for how use your bag (or wish you did)?
Please include brand or details. Would love to hear your thoughts, on when having multiple bags is better which makes a second trip more likely, or being more versatile with variety of tools in one. I am trying to get into lifescience/bioscience and unfortunately got neither. SIT's pharm eng career pathways included biotech which is why i tried to go for it though.
But honestly? CHANCES ARE I CAN ONLY PRAY TO EVEN GET A PASS AND I'D BE HAPPY... Then I spoke with my colleagues and looked up a little and was informed if I do not wish to cont biotech and maybe enter Pharm industry it's very competitive so I gotta aim to do well...
TCM is something I've been interested in but I'd rather do this later on in life as a second degree or something. My chinese is not that fluent, and I'd probably dive into R&D because I don't prefer interacting much with people. However i was informed that if I wish to R&D chances are I'd still have to spend time taking exams after Uni for a license depending on the research. It'll take me 2hrs of travel time as well choosing NTU...

Trabalho neste momento numa empresa de fabrico de robôs, digamos assim, para todos entenderem: quando é preciso um sistema numa fábrica para deixar de ser preciso pessoas e passar a ser máquinas, contactam empresas como a que eu trabalho.
Tenho 30 anos, e experiência de 10 anos no ambiente industrial, em que fiz de tudo, passando pela produção, até a trabalho administrativo, de gestão de stocks, compras, gestão de frota, trabalho de armazém, logística de cargas de grandes dimensões. O que realmente desenvolvi foram as softskills que me permitem fazer bem o meu trabalho, e conseguir trabalhar com, e até gerir pessoas, deu-me confiança, saber apalpar situação, lidar com stress, sentido crítico, saber resolver problemas. Isso permitiu que chegasse a uma nova empresa e integrar-me plenamente, e começar a desempenhar e produzir resultados muito rapidamente. O que me passam, é que a empresa está muito satisfeita e pretendem fazer uma aposta em mim. Pelo que vejo, a empresa fez no passado apostas em alguns colaboradores.
A minha formação académica é um curso Nível 5 em Gestão de Produção. Não paguei, recebi dinheiro por lá estar. Tive ótimos professores universitários, porque é um polo universitário, os professores que não eram universitários eram das fábricas, tinham muita experiência, separavam o trigo do joio, a prática da teoria e conciliavam muito bem as duas. Trabalho neste momento nas Compras, e aprendi conceitos muito importantes para a área em que agora atuo, como Gestão de Stocks, Custeio, Logística, Layouts, SGI, uma quantidade muito grande de conceitos compactados em 2 anos de curso que hoje utilizo.
Neste momento estou numa crossroad, tenho 30 anos e tenho de me virar para um lado, e gostaria que me ajudassem. Quando vejo anúncios para a minha área: Compras, quando é para algo mais complexo, como acho que começo a ter competências para, pedem Ensino Superior, não especificação a área porque para Compras não existe uma formação direcionada, pedem Gestão, ou Económica, algo do género.
Vejo três caminhos para mim:
1. Licenciatura
Não tenho bases nenhumas de escola. Sinto que teria de fazer o exame para maiores de 23 e se conseguisse, já seria uma vitória enorme. Teria de pagar por explicações, algo do género e os problemas viriam depois no decorrer do curso. Não tenho conceitos matemáticos, o que sei do português é intuição. A nível de custos, pelo que entendi estamos a falar em pelo menos 10.000 € por uma licenciatura de três anos, teria de fazer 100km por dia. O meu trabalho é incrivelmente stressante, estou a depositar bastante de mim para avançar e progredir, sinto que seria muito difícil conciliar as duas coisas, tendo em conta o esforço que teria de meter para aprender o que já devia ter aprendido no secundário. A área que pensei seria Gestão Industrial, pois permite ir para várias áreas dentro da indústria, neste momento digo que prendendo trabalhar na indústria até me reformar. Gosto do gerir de relações, stress e pressão.
2. Pós-Graduação em Supply Chain
Neste momento existem Pós-Graduações em que não pedem licenciaturas na área em que atuo. A Porto Bussiness School tem o curso presencial, o que me agrada, são 40 horas e perto de 2.500 €. Existe em formato online com grandes nomes do ramo como José Crespo de Carvalho. É um curso direcionado completamente para a minha área, mas a duração é tão curta que me deixas recetivo. Não sei até que ponto este tipo de especializações iriam reverter a meu favor no mercado de trabalho numa candidatura que pedem ensino superior. Existe também uma possibilidade deste tipo de formação ser-me dada pela entidade empregadora, o tal investir em mim, mas nada disto foi discutido.
3. Curso Técnico Profissional na Área de Automação-Robótica
Poderia entrar num curso diretamente ligado à area em que a empresa onde trabalho atua, área que dizem que irá ter um futuro muito risonho, que eu tenho curiosidade em entender. Não quero engenharia eletrotécnica e ficar atrás de um computador o dia todo, não é para mim. Este curso iria aumentar em muito o meu radar de ação dentro da empresa. Conciliar os conhecimentos de compras, a saber o que estou a comprar, iria ser uma coisa de grande nível e o meu poder de negociação e decisão iria aumentar. O curso seria um ano e meio, não teria de pagar nada, e o tempo de deslocação não é grande. Existem dois locais onde poderia tirar o curso, um deles as propinas anuais não chegam a 600 euros.
Pessoalmente, sou uma pessoa bastante prática, gosto de tocar e entender, aprender a decorar não é para mim, nunca vai ser. Sinto que tenho habilidades e personalidade para chegar a outros patamares, não sei ainda se quero chegar a esses patamares, mas os anos em que descartei a escola fizeram com que ficasse com debilidades técnicas muito grandes, o que acredito que seria um obstáculo grande se enveredasse por uma licenciatura. Não sei o que uma Pós-Graduação me traria a nível de currículo, se realmente serve para alguma coisa, ou serviria para alguma coisa se algum dia estivesse entre entrar ou não entrar numa posição de Gestão. O que me recomendariam?

Study Finance or Not to Finance? 💰
I've been trying to learn finance to better understand valuation and cash flow. While I find it interesting, I have been struggling retaining what I learned and tho seemed like I understand the concept but I almost failed my exams. I am curious how other people study and what materials and plan you find most effective.
My strength is storytelling with data and giving killer presentations. Although my end career goal isn't to be a financial analyst, I'd love to find a way to incorporate finance knowledge into my presentations (getting my foot into the banking industry). I spent hours studying for my finance exam, but unfortunately, the results weren't great, and now I'm questioning whether I should continue investing my time and energy in this area.
I am an MBA student wanting to pivot my career from marketing to something else that give higher pay. I want to make sure I'm focusing on the skills that will benefit me most in the long run. Should I keep trying to improve my finance knowledge, or would it be wiser to double down on my strengths in data storytelling and maybe learn python.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Additionally, if you have tips on effectively studying finance or balancing your strengths with learning new skills, I'm all ears!

But even typing this, it doesn’t feel real. I still have hope tonight that he can change. I feel so stupid.
I am 38F and he is 39M.
I am devastated. I would do anything and everything to be married forever, but it’s no longer an option and hasn’t been since the fourth month of our marriage. I was 8 weeks pregnant with his child and he assaulted me with a metal cup in the car while he was driving on the freeway because I wouldn’t stop saying why he was upsetting me. The fight continued when we got home and he had called the police, lied to them and had me arrested. Eight weeks pregnant. With bruises up and down my body. I got arrested. I spent the night in jail and had to listen to my baby’s heartbeat for the first time from a county jail exam table.
Somehow, through that, we stayed married. Abuse makes you do wild things. It changes your brain. Abusers purposely make you confused. Through counseling, I am coming out of the confusion now, though.
I could go on and on about the abuse I have suffered. I am here today because typing this makes it real that I am leaving. And I am here today because I need support in understanding that he is not going to change.
This morning things escalated by 8am. This is typical weekend behavior. I discovered that he has been smoking cigarettes in one of the vehicles that is in my name and that I pay for, and that I have asked him not to smoke in repeatedly. I do not smoke. I think it’s gross. And it has ruined the interior of this vehicle that is expensive. Not only that, but our child has asthma. Most likely because he IS a smoker. Anyway, I grabbed something out of the vehicle for his 6yo and I came back in and simply said “please don’t smoke in the truck anymore. Please don’t tell me that you haven’t been either.” This sent him into a spiral. He called me names and said that I am controlling. He started following me around the house screaming behind my head. He is nearly a foot taller than me and this is physically intimidating to me. So much so that my hands start to shake, my heart races and my thoughts become blurry when he does this. I knew at this point it was best for me to get our child and leave. So I was doing that. But this morning he would not let me leave the bedroom and was blocking me from leaving with our child with his body in the doorway. I told him I was going to call non-emergency if he didn’t move. And he would not. So I was trying to figure out how to call but my hands were shaking so bad and my brain was so jumbled I gave up and called my sister on speaker. I asked her to call the police. As soon as he saw her name on my phone he moved and let me leave. He yelled at me and our child out the door and to the neighborhood “see - I’m so scary - I’m letting you leave”. I got our child in the backseat and drove down the street to park and get them dressed. They were only in a pull up. I saw the officer coming down the road and flagged him down. I told him what happened and he went and talked with him. I left with our child and went to my sisters. Eventually we came home and he has been upstairs ever since. This is also typical. He will have an outburst. And then go upstairs and not speak to me for a week. And then one morning he’ll just wake up and decide that it’s time to be normal again. And generally comes to me and says “have you calmed down”. Which, as you can imagine, perpetuates the situation further. And drags it on. He does not understand accountability.
We have been married 3.5 years, together for 5 total. We have one child together (2yo) and he has two other children (6yo and 14yo).
We moved in together after 9 months of dating. That is when the abuse started. The first time he was physically abusive, he broke through our bedroom door. Broke. The entire door - down. Somehow, I decided to continue.
From the start, I’ve known it was never going to last. He is unstable. He has a long and dark history of mental illness (both himself and his immediate maternal and paternal family). In addition to struggling with substance abuse his entire life. His childhood is tragic and full of heartache. It shaped the man he is today, and not for the better.
He is in the trades industry and has a GED. I am a director level professional and have a college degree. His father was in prison for the last half of his childhood and eventually took his life when he was released. My father is a retired architect, Vietnam vet. We grew up completely different. Both of our parents divorced. He then suffered verbal and emotional abuse from his step father. I suffered verbal, emotional, and physical abuse from my mother.
I believe my mother is a narcissist and undiagnosed. And I believe my husband has narcissistic tendencies and/or is one. But I am not a medical professional. I am going on what I’ve experienced with both of them.
When we first met, he was 34 and I was 33. He was unemployed and really not doing well. Drinking in access. A lot. Everyday. But I did not know. I was doing very well. I had spent my 20s creating a fulfilling and financially successful career. He spent his 20s job hopping and, quite honestly, messing around. But we had fun together. But having fun together is not real life.
Here is where the manipulation began. He was upfront about his upbringing and past. And was genuinely making steps towards a better life. He is a born again Christian. And as an educated person, I believe he has grabbed on to what is actually important in the Bible. However, he is unable to abide by what a husband biblically should be. He does not love, protect or provide for me or our child. We joined a church, I became involved and made friends, and we went there as a family for multiple years. Until one night he showed up drunk, and I never went back.
I am the breadwinner. I pay for ev. ry. thing. He keeps his entire paycheck and will not give me money to pay bills. He will also not physically pay the bills. I manage and pay all bills. But not because I don’t want him to. I have begged, cried, and tried a million different systems (both digital and analog) to make him involved. And he flat out refuses. He abused our shared checking by taking money out to “pay bills” from his personal checking account and then did not pay those bills and spent the money. So I would then have to pay multiple months and late fees to catch up. Many. Many. Times.
In addition to not contributing financially, he does not contribute to the household upkeep or yard maintenance. Literally nothing. If I want the yard kept, I do it, or I pay someone to do it. If something on a vehicle goes out, I make the appointment and consult with the technician. But again, not because I want to, but because he will not participate. Or if he does, it’s half assed and more work for me. He does not grocery shop or cook. He has never cooked one meal for me. I think he’s maybe gotten a bowl of ice cream for me a couple times? He does not clean. He has cleaned the bathroom in our home two times. We have lived here 4 years. We live in separate bedrooms because he won’t pickup after himself. His room is squalor. Clothes on every square inch. Fast food wrappers. No sheet on mattress. I have cleaned it for him many times in hopes that we could make a drastic change and start sleepin next to each other again. But he refuses. I know this sounds insane that I have stayed married. It sounds insane to me.
He verbally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, sexually and financially abuses me. Maybe not all at once, everyday. But one of them most likely daily now. Or a couple. It’s been a very long time since there has been a long stretch of stability or peace.
However, I am changing all of that this year. I have hired an attorney and am climbing through the paperwork right now.
On Christmas morning last year, before we hosted family that day, he threw a (heavy) laundry basket full of dirty clothes at me as I was going down the stairs because I asked him for help with something. And after the first one hit me, I sat down and covered my head so I wouldn’t fall, and he threw another one at me. I don’t know how I masked my raw emotions through the rest of the day with family over. I ate not one bite. I pushed my food around my plate and tried to make my face contort into normal emotions for the day.
But I stayed. Again.
Mother’s Day morning this year. Just one week ago - I spent it locked in my bedroom with our child paying the divorce attorney retainer fee on the laptop as he screamed at me what a piece of shit mother and wife I am. I honestly don’t even know what I did or remember why it escalated. Most likely because it was a holiday - and not about him.
I am exhausted. I have lost close to 30lbs since January. People are beginning to notice.
I wanted a family more than anything. I adore my child. I spend my days and nights dreaming up ways to enrich their life. I wanted family vacations and world travel. I wanted to host, big, extended family holiday gatherings. I wanted my little baby to know what it felt like to have a mom and dad at home together every night. But not at this cost. The very worst part of my parenting is staying married. I am a bad parent every day that I stay here.
I wish I could file the petition and fast forward a year. I know I’ll be okay. It’s ripping off the bandaid that hurts.

I was hurt on the job working as an industrial maintenance tech doing my duty's as a mechanic and electrician. long story short, I can not do this type of work for the permeant work restrictions I have from the injury. it has put me in a really bad spot to find a job.
the good news is that I was already going to school for my electrical engineering degree, and I am in my second year so I will not have to much longer.
the bad news is, I have a family of one child and some pets that depend on me. while this was a very shocking change of life, we was not prepared for me to have spine surgery and not being able to go back to my job.
My restrictions are:

no prolong sitting or standing
no repetitive bending or twisting
no lifting greater than 25 lbs
no prolong walking

How you see why it has been a struggle to find a job with no employer background for any remote type of jobs. I was thinking IT support, which I am very good at, I just don't have any certifications for IT tho.
I am open to anything that would be remote, or any ideas that I could do for a job until I can graduate.

Are you electricians who have recently taken the electrical regulations exam?
I have worked as an electrical engineer in Europe for over 30 years and I've been working on all the New Zealand documents for 6 weeks now, but it's very difficult for me to prepare all of these documents etc in time. I need to make an index in my own words of all the regulations (Electricity Act 1992, Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, ... ) etc. but due to work etc I am running out of time. Can anyone send me their notes on this as a PDF?

So my employer has me in healthnet DHMO plan I go to clinic thinking I'll be covered. Get examed then get a huge bill shock. They claim insurance cover but when I look at it I see nothing. All PPO fees. I ask who the dentist that going to treat me. Different person. Considering US in network hmo definition is so extreme meaning you can't even see someone else who is participating in the hmo network. healthnet website requires you to find provider but disclaimer is info may be out of date...FFS! So the onus is on the patient to go chasing around the HMO participating dentist. I'm gonna flip soon and say if you don't get honest it'll cost me less to fly back to Australia to get treatment! Luckily I read the reviews about the deep clean scamming the clinic and many others in the dental industry are doing and picked up on it.

For the first time, dealing with electricity, I am truly stumped. I am not a licensed electrician, but I have been around Electrical most of my life as my father was an industrial electrician for a a food processing company. About 15 years ago we converted a deck to a screen porch. In the process we added 7 20 amp outlets with a new 20 amp breaker. Unfortunately the tile guy screwed up and did not leave room for all weather outlets. They have been that way for the whole time. We used a GFIC plug for the first in the chain. Recently we had the porch repainted (they probably got water in the plugs doing the prep) and started having problems with 2 of the outlets (last two in the circuit (I think). Then the other outlets stopped working.
I first assumed the GFCI had gone bad. I pulled it out and hardwired it and the other outlets started working, so I thought that I had to solve the problem and I went and purchased a new GFCI outlet. When I replaced that outlet, nothing worked. The outlet has a red light that indicates the outlet is bad. So I returned it and got a replacement with the same result.
Then I hardwired the connection again this time the outlet downstream would not turn on the light. When I test the current with the breaker on it shows I have a low level of voltage (8-10 volts) Plug tester indicates wiring is correct. What am I missing?

Hello everyone,
Context: Studied Civil Engineering with a focus in Architectural Engineering. Currently a Project Manager in construction. Looking to pursue a PE in AE eventually.
Has anyone taken the AE PE exam and considered it impactful professionally? Was pursuing the PE in AE a personal decision or did your company request or push you toward it? Do you consider receiving the PE in AE worth it?
I ask because I do not consider architectural engineering a well recognized profession/discipline within the architecture, construction, engineering industry. In my opinion, the role of the architectural engineer was supposed to be filled/is currently filled by mechanical engineers. Out of a necessity for a professional with knowledge going beyond HVAC design and into architecture, structural engineering, building science, the "architectural engineer" was born. However, the industry may not recognize this change or even the need for this change. What I fear is getting the PE in AE and because of the lack of understanding of the AE profession, not being taken seriously as a PE.
