2024.05.19 17:47 throwra_softsdad My now-ex-girlfriend (22f) broke up with me (23f) and I have this feeling to call her. How do i do that without disrespecting boundaries?

We broke up in good terms, almost a month go, and the reason was mental illness, she tought was not fair to me to stay in a relationship that was not going to be great for a while, since she was not really well mentally. She broke up not listening my side. It was not negotiable.
I understand it, really. I understand and when it happened I said that I was going to wait untill she was better so we can talk about it. I said I was give her space but it feels wrong, somehow. How was I saying about marry this person and that I will love and care about them forever. Then let them go in the first thing? I talk about it with a friend and she told me "it's not about you and about your love and how you care, its about her and her stuff" and i got it. My mother told me "its the younf love and it will pass after some time". For me that's not how it Works. I cannot close my eyes and leave her side like that. She have this thing that she feel shes not Worth love and shes not the priority of anyone. How am I suppose to leave knowing this things? Plus 2/3 of my group friends told my that was "first love delusion" because she was my very first love and partner and it would pass after time. But I don't think they're getting that it's not about wanting her back as my girlfriend and is about worrying about her, wanting her to get better. Before I ever feel romantic interest in her i was worried about her and how it's suppose to pass AFTER i start to love her so much and care even more about her. That don't make any sense! I'm tired of hearing its young love, its first love, its lesbian love and i want actual advices, what would you do if that happened to you, other points of view, please.
There's so much I want to talk about. I feel so lost, i don't know what to do. I feel like going to her house and saying that she's Worth love and to let me try to help. But i feel like not respecting boudaries, putting my feelings above hers. I just love her so much and i know my love won't take away her mental illness, but what about some walks? And talk with someone else. I was thinking about suggesting splitting the cost of therapy until she could pay for one on her own, but she broke up with me before I could talk about it and now it seems weird.
You guys think I should try talk to her or leave it alone, even if it not feel right in my heart? I'm afraid to try and ruin things but i feel I can't leave it without try.

2024.05.19 17:45 ExpressionGeneral418 Why do I care now? I was never “all in” to begin with. Now I want to be??

I’m lost and confused after a recent breakup.
My ex broke up with me a few weeks ago. We had been dating about a year and a half. I met her on a dating app and it was one of those relationships that developed by doing one date a week for several months. It was a year after I got out of a toxic relationship.
About 3 months into hanging out. she asked if I would be her bf. At first I cringed on the idea, not because it was her, but more so because I wasn’t sure about it. She was a great girl but I wasn’t sold on relationship material. I have crazy high standards and she didn’t fit appearance standard. But I went along with it, I told her I still wanted to be able to approach or work on social skills with other girls even if just plutonicly. Fast forward another several months and the I love you statement came up. I wasn’t entirely sure about how I felt but I again went along with it. I did come around to the whole thing though.
She was a very loving, loyal, committed gf, and did anything for me. She made a lot of money (6 figures). Unfortunately I didn’t really find her incredibly magnetizing. She was cute, but not crazy attractive in my eye. Also, the fact that she was so wholesome, it didn’t allow for much witty banter. Conversations were mostly plutonic, where I’m more of the sarcastic type. She always wanted to pull out the calendar and schedule plans months in advance every week. She did all of these crazy google calendar overlays and I felt like I was always being sucked into things I didn’t want to do. She became more clingy than I had realized when I first met her. She even asked me about 3 months ago, if we could spend not just weekends together, but also Wednesday nights. (We lived just over an hour apart). I suggested it could be every other week (the opposite)…I didn’t like going to her place because of the road noise where she lived and I would really only see her when she would visit me. When apart I was fine going several weeks without seeing each other. Phone calls were enough. I know, all of this sounds really one sided and like I’m an asshole. But I was very loving to her in person and she knows that, hence why it lasted so long.
Unfortunately a lot of things she did turned me off. She was too readily available, always trying to lock up my calendar, talk about marriage and kids in the next 3-5 years and I felt trapped. We had great sex but it wasn’t crazy passionate, neither was our kissing. When alone, and was feeling aroused, I generally didn’t think of my ex. I constantly found myself checking out other girls places I went (but never talked to them). I felt like wow I wish that was the kind of girl I was with. Although my ex was cute, and attractive to most, I didn’t really feel “proud” to have her with me when I went out…I debated for months on what to do.
In the end she left me, and I shouldn’t really be surprised. But now I’m wishing I had her. Maybe not for the right reasons though? I just think where would I find a girl that loyal, dedicated, and make that kind of money without being money hungry.
I’m trying to figure out why if I wanted to end things myself how come all of a sudden I want her back? Is it just the void of not having someone loyal who’s there for me? The fear of not meeting someone as smart? She’s already talking to other guys and I’m just a wreck and need some advice. I can’t go an hour without thinking of her. I think I need to rewire the way I am thinking. I can’t stop thinking that maybe I made a mistake and should have put in more effort, but I feel like if I truly loved/had that spark for her I would have tried more all along
Do you think this was a good thing this happened?

2024.05.19 17:45 Shahrozzorhahs How I perceive AI in writing code

One way I see the AI transition in writing code is;
How in 1940s, programmers would code directly in binary and there was a very small group of people who would do that.
Then assembly language was introduced, which was still a complex way for humans to write code.
Then high-level language was introduced. But again, the initial syntax was again a bit complex.
For past 2 3 decades, these high-level languages are getting more humanized. For instance, the syntax of python. And with this, the amount of people who can create programs now have increased drastically. But still not on a point where every layman can do that.
We can see a pattern here. In each era, the way we talk to a computer machine got more and more humanized. The level of abstraction increased.
The level of humanization and abstraction is on a point that now we can write code in natural language. It is not that direct now but that's what we are doing ultimately. And I think, in the future you would be able to write your code in extremely humanized way. Which will ultimately increase the people who can write programs.
So, the AI revolution in terms of writing code is just another module attached before high-level language.
Natural Language High-level Language Compiler Assembly Linker Binary.
Just like in each era, now the amount of people who will write programs will be highest than ever.
Guys tell me did i yapp for nothing or this somewhat make sense

2024.05.19 17:45 raquel18ls The Starset lore part IV: A Brief History of the Future

Hi, guys! I'm back. I've just finished reading Starset's new novel, A Brief History of the Future, and i really needed to share it.
Some of you may know me from my previous posts on the Starset lore:
Now that I've read this book, I want to sum up what we have now. Keep in mind that, for obvious reasons, this post is all spoiler content. If you plan to read the book(s) I encourage you to do so, because I'm unveiling some of the main "plot-twists" in the second book. I won't be writing a literal summary of the book's plot (I will focus on the content more than in the "drama" -in fact, I will start at the end), but key elements of it will appear. Also, I'm taking for granted you are already familiar with the contents in The Prox Transmissions -if not, I recommend you reading my post or just dropping this post altogether and go read the book!
If you have already read the books, don't plan to read them or don't care about the spoilers, stay with me along this long post because you will discover much about Divisions, Horizons... and what's coming next!!
Let's go then!
In a unknown year the novel starts in a world dominated by a state called the New East. it's not explicit in the book, but we have reasons to identify the New East with China: it is a current superpower and the powerful people in control have Chinese names. This state is governed by a Governing Committee, composed by Ministers that stay in charge for 5 years, with an exception: the Minister of Security, also known as MinSec. He is the head of the New East's secret police and he is to remain in charge for life.
Prior to 2024, Aston Wise (remember he was one of the protagonists of the previous novel!) is locked up by the US Government. They force him to create the BMI and its Architecture. In 2024, as I have said, the New East manages to obtain it and the big war starts. This part of the story is also explained deeper in a video (called "Initial Debriefing", available in Starset's YouTube channel since September 9th, 2021), with some minor incongruencies:
In the year 2010, the US Defense Advance Research Projects Agency -or DARPA- began work on a neural link system known as the "Brain Machine Interface" developed under the highest levels of secrecy. This technology was to be used in covert espionage campaigns with the goal of giving the US a major advantage in the ever-growing cyber warfare battlefield. The intention was to use the "BMI" on unsuspecting foreign agents, giving US Intelligence a remote line into their minds. Launched in 2020 to great success, the BMI provided a window into the intentions and secrets of numerous potential adversaries. Then, in 2021, a botched operation allowed this technology to fall into the hands of an undisclosed state who would then use it agains the US itself for over a decade. This state -which came to be known as the New East- used this technology to syphon intellectual property and assert control over the US, allowing it to rise swiftly as a global superpower. In the early 2030s, the crippled US launched an attack to the New East. This was quickly thwarted. However, as the New East was fully aware and prepared, in the end, the US and its allies capitulated and became known simply as the New West. Citizens of the New West, now mostly impoverished laborers, were offered BMI implantation -sold on the wonders of its amazing benefits. Eventually though, all were made to comply. Only then did the true goals of the New East become apparent.
The New West is a de facto and de iure protectorate. The New West has its own local police -that dealt with murder and robbery-, but the military and, most important, the Civil Authorities (CA), are controlled by MinSec -focused on thought crime.
Soon after the end of the war, some people were drafted for the reclamation in Virginia by the New East army. This was a forced-labor suicide mission because it was a fallout zone. The goal was the recovery of documents from the US, such as blueprints for advanced weapons and intel. Those who survived, developed NeuroTIDS (neural tissue interface degeneration syndrome) because of the radiation.
Once in control of the US (now New West), the New East implanted into all citizens the BMI. Now, people deal with three layers of reality: unaltered reality (UR), augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Considering the BMI, there are three states:
(There also exists the Everything Machine in this storyline. Indeed, people ate only printed food, as real food as reserved for the New East).
On top of this, there’s an intelligent algorythm or artificial intelligence in the Architecture, called the Overseer. It is capable of detecting thought crimes by accessing a person's sensory input and also altering their perceptions (for example, blurring texts from banned books). When a thought crime is detected, CAs intervene and turn the perpetrator into a supplicant. Supplicants are stuck in VR prisons while their bodies wander in the streets or are collected and put into "corrals". See an example of a supplication facility in Where the Skies Ends music video.
The protectorate of the New East upon the New West is mantained thanks to the Quantum Comunicator, which keeps both connected and also connected to the Architecture
On the other hand, there's a rebel network still in function. They manage to meet and develop their plans by modding their BMIs, so that they become undetectable under the eyes of the Overseer. Their plan is to trap the MinSec and use their credentials to get access to the Architecture and destroy it from the inside.
(In Manifest music video you can see examples of people frosting, people supplicated, the modding minor surgery, the rebels, the CAs using their "freezing" weapons and supplicating civilians and a bigwig from the New East, maybe the MinSec himself).
Also, it is said that the New East didn't manage to conquer all the Old West (US) territories. There's rumours about the socalled Western Territories, free land where some former rebels already live, though its real existence it's in never confirmed in book. In The Breach music video we can see how a family leaving in the New West takes the opportunity of escaping into the Western Territories during some sort of shutdown.
The New West capital is established in Philadelphia, where the events in A Brief History of the Future are set. Here's the Quantum Communication Center and the New West Center for Advanced Innovation (CAI), where the most brilliant programming students are sent to develop their skills and work for the New West/East. One of this students is one of the protagonists of this book, Thomas Bell (again, someone whose name we are already familiar...), who quickly proves to be the best one and gets to be chosen as the Director's assistant. Eventually we get to discover the Director is Aston Wise and later on we find out he is the Architect himself.
A feature or app of the BMI that will reveal crucial to the plot is the Shadowcast: one can frost but, instead of being conscious in a VR, "enters" inside a celebrity's mind for an hour and experiences all they are experiencing live (the user is passive and can only perceive, but not intervene or influence the shadowcast celebrity into doing anything). You can see an example of this in Symbiotic music video, where the user is finally able to successfully Occupy the body of the celebrity. In the book, when this happens, the person occupied has their BMI turned purple.
In the book, Occupation will be a tool used by Bell and Wise, but also by the government, in an attempt of using the supplicated bodies to their own purposes. The original project launched by the New East and commissioned to the Director of the CAI (Aston Wise), was called by Wise himself 'Project X'. New East wanted to present it to the citizens as a way of emancipating from work: while working, you can let yourself be occupied by the Overseer, who wil perform your job while you can be having fun in VR. In Icarus music video you can see an ad made by the New East to promote the "benefits" of this technology (called Werk here); the other ads are based on previous BMI technology (AR, VR and Shadowcast). (Fun fact: have you noticed that the actor in 3:12 is the same from the Ricochet music video?).
As I said in the beginning, it is not my goal to sum up the book's plot and even though I have already spoiled you much info and some plot-twists, I'm not telling you here how the story of the protagonists develops and how it ends. However, I can't refrain from telling you this: the last page of the book has a QR that redirects to a video that has me really excited.
In the video, we see a man. He tells us it is 2048. In spring 2026, the New East took over the US. But... guess who's back! Oh, yes, the Order! Or rather they were there all along. In fact, the man who's talking to us is Stephen Browning! On July 4th of 2026, after the New East invasion, the Order tried to launch a spacerocket to get to "a lonely planet" (Prox!), but it was intercepted by the New East and then the army destroyed their base, so they lost all hope in a future on another planet. However, they managed to hide a "time mechanism" (I guess the same they had in The Prox Transmissions) and, finally, sent a message to 2024, warning us about this future that awaits us. Then he sais:
Dear Order friends, the time has finally arrived. We're headed to space. We're going go Prox.
This announcement matches Starset's video from six months ago ("It begins. And it ends. Now."), where we see images of astronauts and spacerockets, evoking space travel. Wow! Did you miss that "space-y" aesthetic, plots and sound from Transmissions and Vessels? Because it sounds like we're getting them back! Note that at the end of this video, the three dots of the BMI are occupied by three symbols:
It also matches the music video for Starset's last single, Brave New Word! And there's more news: the end of the video linked in A Brief History Of the Future ends with a "to be continued in Spring 2025".
So... Again, there are some questions left unanswered (and I love that!): How are both books linked? Are they the same Aston Wise and Thomas Bell, but in an alternative timeline? From where will the story continue? (The Order in 2048 colonising Prox?). I'm soooo excited to learn what's coming next and to listen Starset's next album (I love Brave New World).
Let me know about your impressions, opinions, theories... feel free to add any info I could have missed, to correct any piece I could be mistaken about, etc. Thank you so much for your attention (I literally created this account only to write these Starset lore posts I feel very invested to and English isn't even my first or second language), I hope you enjoyed it and found it useful!!

2024.05.19 17:42 WorldGoneAway Weekend at Harvey's

(TL;DR - I run a module written by a DM from another group, it goes off the rails, I allow it, we have fun, and the other DM completely loses their shit on me when they hear about it a few years later.)
This one is hopefully going to be fun, the original event happened a number of years ago, and the end of the event is fairly recent, so a lot of the earlier details are a little bit fuzzy but I can definitely relate the story.
Back in my game store days, I was the DM of one of two consistent Dungeons & Dragons groups at my LGS. The other DM and I really weren't friends, and I can't say we even actually liked each other, but we had a mutual respect and we had a few common players in our respective games.
One day the other DM approached me with a folder of papers. He said he had written a module that he was thinking of publishing and he wanted to have other DMs run the game with a few different groups at the same time so that he can have usable feedback. I told him I would read it and then I would try running it with my group.
It wasn't bad. Not exactly the best writing, there were some small spelling and grammar mistakes, but not anything incomprehensible. The plot basically involves a corrupt treasurer of a merchant guild blackmailing the player characters into doing a long series of side quests because he could very easily frame them for an event they witness.
The thing about this was that the writer spent a considerable amount of effort in writing contingencies so that the villain in the story could not be killed too early because it would ultimately result in the players getting framed for the event anyway. Kind of heavy-handed railroading, but I would give it a shot.
The corrupt merchant guild treasurer was Harvey. He was a smarthy middle-aged half-elf with what was described as a "manipulative personality"; None of that is actually relevant to the story.
My players decided that instead of trying to investigate the potential murder of another merchant guild office holder, they were going to try to loot Harvey's office before meeting him.
While the players are looting, Harvey walks back into his office after paying for the hit on the other office holder, one of the party members panics and wins the initiative before Harvey can even speak. Two natural 20s later, Harvey is dead.
Well shit.
The thing is, the way the module was written, every opportunity the players would have to kill him early, there would be witnesses and contingencies. This particular event did not, and wasn't exactly planned for in the original writing. When the players characters search him, and find out who he is, the players collectively panic and try to find a way to get out of the situation without having the whole town after them.
So after about 30 minutes of in and out of character discussion among the players, they eventually came to an agreement...
They were going to try to keep up a charade where everybody in town thought Harvey was still alive and that they were his best friends looking out for him enough for the events of the story to resolve themselves.
"Hold on, you guys are going to actually try to do a Weekend at Bernie's on this?"
"Well, what other options do we have? We are in big trouble otherwise! "
Every single time something like this happens, I am famous for saying four very specific words…
"Okay, roll for it."
Potentially 15 sessions worth of dark political conspiracy then proceeded to turn into 22 sessions of black comedy gold.
Finally at the end, one of the other merchant guild office holders storms into Harvey's office while the players characters are in the next room trying to explain to a town guard that the reason Harvey is slumped in his chair is because he's drunk. In full view of the party and the guard through an open dividing wall, the other merchant proceeds to start stabbing Harvey multiple times. The other merchant guild member is promptly arrested for Harvey's murder, and the players are praised for being true friends to Harvey and the town, and are invited to his funeral.
The hilarious thing is that this end result was in fact one of the possible endings that the original author had written into the module (merchant guild member murders Harvey and frees the PCs of the blackmail). My players just had a really messed up way of getting there though.
I went back to the other DM, handed him back the folder, told him that the players loved it, we took a few liberties, but they ended up getting what he called "Ending C" in the DM notes. He asked me for constructive criticism, and I gave him the pretty basic stuff but also mentioned a couple extra contingencies to try to keep the plot from being too inflexible.
We didn't talk about this for a few years, then I bumped into his game group when I came back in to browse the scene at my LGS a couple of weeks ago. DM greeted me and explained that the group was playing the revised version of his module for the fourth time with different characters, trying to get each of the different endings. While we were talking I ended up letting it slip just how off the rails that module got when I ran it.
I didn't think it was a big deal, But that DM proceeded to get fairly angry and offended. He asked me specifically what happened and I explained that they rather accidentally killed Harvey at the very beginning of the module and pretended he was still alive for 22 sessions just so that they would not get arrested. Two of the players at the table started to laugh hysterically, one of the players looked genuinely horrified and the DM got pissed and raised his voice.
"YOU ACTUALLY LET THEM DO THAT!? THAT'S NOT HOW THE TONE OF THE STORY IS SUPPOSED TO GO!"
I tried telling him it wasn't a big deal, told him it was just a game and that the players had a blast, but he wasn't having any of it. He told me if I was going to "defile" his writing, I should at least keep the tone consistent with the original work and tell him when it happens. I apologized, but he demanded that I leave the room. I just turned and left.
Over the ensuing week I heard from a couple of different people that this guy was cursing my name left and right and how in someway I betrayed his trust by letting the game get that way. Worst yet he somehow found my number so that he could bombard me with angry text messages about the subject. Tried to text him an apology and an explanation, but I'm pretty sure he blocked me. Haven't talked to him since.
I understand that it was his brainbaby of sorts, but I can't help but feel like this is a complete overreaction. Not to mention he clearly had it edited such that he was happy enough to run it four times and was satisfied with it. I wouldn't personally hold this kind of thing against anybody that did this very thing with one of my games. What do you guys think?

2024.05.19 17:42 UberEpicZach Dragon Development Diary #4: Hatching and Cradling

Dragon Development Diary #4: Hatching and Cradling
Hey Everyone! Uber here again with the fourth of our Dragon Development Diaries!
We now know the Dragons' Vision, the Anatomy of a Dragons Portrait, and even all of what makes a dragon unique in type and personality. Today, we are going to dive into everything about Hatching, cradling, egg laying and 'Dragon Blood'. I'll be joined by one of our scripters, Typical.
Heyo, I’m Typical, one of the Advanced Scripters on the team. You may remember me as the guy who created the Faegon Invasions and or as a general onion fanatic on the main server - as Uber mentioned, we are going to go over hatching and more, which is a lot of what I had worked on for this update, so without further ado, let’s get to it.

Bringing them back and Dragon Lore

For nearly a hundred years, as seen in the main series of books and our current bookmarks, dragons have been believed to be extinct. All that remains are dragon bones, eggs, and numerous written accounts. From the eyes of your average ruler, you must read over these accounts and use your best judgment. To bring dragons back, one must undergo the dangerous ritual known as the Hatching Ceremony.
The Hatching Ceremony is a new activity in development. Through the choices the character makes and the pursuit of luck, you might hatch a dragon. This activity is very much based upon the attempts of numerous Targaryens in our histories, specifically, the rumours surrounding the Tragedy at Summerhall and our interpretations of that event in our Nine-Penny Kings Bookmark.
To start your adventure into Hatching, you must select an egg and than choose where you want to hatch the dragon egg. (Note all following images are WIP; and art is underway progress)
https://preview.redd.it/rk4czf9cfe1d1.png?width=943&format=png&auto=webp&s=015ec8f4b33e3ab6f484ccb08cf884497d0f7272

But even before doing that, I would recommend gaining as much dragon lore as possible, or else you shall meet the same fate Aegon the Unlikely did. To learn Dragon lore, you must explore places with significant dragon history, learn about the history of the place, and gain a broader picture of what a dragon really is. You may plan ahead and travel to some of these sites as part of a grander trip, twisting your travel plans to go out and hit these Points of Interest.

Hatching Preparations

Once you've chosen the egg you want to hatch, you face the most challenging part of the Hatching Ceremony: selecting the proper method. There are two main types of the Hatching Ceremony: Knowledge Hatching and Esoteric Hatching. As the names suggest, Knowledge Hatching involves using willing maesters and other wise men to hatch the dragon through ‘Maester facts’ and logic. In contrast, Esoteric Hatching relies on a character's belief in faith, using both ritual and help from the faithful to bring the dragon to life.

Next, you need to select who will be participating with you; options are the following:
  • Close Family
  • Close Family and Kingsguard (King and Ruling Family only)
  • Extended Family
After that is the second most important choice, selecting a method in which you are going to hatch the egg. Options are follows:
  • Wooden Pyre
  • Sacrifice
    • Animal
    • Human
    • Valyrian Steel
    • Own Blood
  • Wildfire
  • BURN THEM ALL
https://preview.redd.it/tvunyegage1d1.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=02512bd44d83b17391b627f8294ea2f8b0d6f074
Soon after your choice, the ceremony will commence,
https://preview.redd.it/0blc2m1ege1d1.png?width=1831&format=png&auto=webp&s=7207cbb4ad68352d6e30a094e1a8aba4f65180ee

The Ceremony

When the ceremony starts, you can either continue or fold and end the ritual. This choice remains available until the very moment of hatching. You never know if you have unleashed dragons anew in the next moment, or uh….. It's a complicated risk overall.
https://preview.redd.it/zqa09kzhge1d1.png?width=820&format=png&auto=webp&s=978cecdbf7a93d3793ab130d80ff8994591ac168
In the next event, you'll be given several options for hatching the egg. While the chance of success is random, it's weighted by your actions and attributes. For instance, someone with extensive dragon lore and Valyrian blood will have a higher chance of success than an onion farmer with no dragon lore or Valyrian blood.

Should you Succeed, the newborn dragon shall be born, and the dragons shall return to this world; if you fail, the consequences will be dire for both you and all participants in a botched attempt unless that is if you wanted that. Yes you heard me right, the activity has 2 intents, suicide by hatching and hatching a dragon. The funny thing is that if you fail in your suicide and actually hatch a dragon, you will get a nice 2 levels of stress for that.

The Hatching Ceremony is still possible to do once the dragon is back in the world of the living since not every egg will hatch a natural way, and there is also the fact that non-Valyrians will need to take part in this dangerous procedure to be able to cradle eggs in the future. On the subject of cradling eggs,

Cradling Eggs

Once dragons have returned to the world. In the chance you get an egg you will be able to hatch it naturally via the new cradling mechanic. Cradling and Hatching are similar in the sense that they can end up with a hatching dragon, but cradling is, first and foremost, a much safer and lengthy procedure. While you may hatch an egg via a Hatching Ceremony over the course of a month, hatching an egg via cradling might take years; As to Cradle an Egg to hatch, one needs first to build a bond with the egg.
To start cradling an egg, as with hatching an egg via ceremony, you must select the egg via character interaction. On that note, you can also gift an egg to one of your family members and tell them to start cradling an egg or give an egg to one of your courtiers and order them to start cradling, with the caveat that they need to have dragon blood. What is dragon blood? Don’t worry about it. I will explain it just past the cradling segment.

After selecting one of the mentioned interactions, the whole process starts. After this, Players and Ruler AI can get a chance to increase their bond with an egg by selecting the new “Spend time with Egg” decision & random events. Non-ruler AI characters can increase their bond within the same range once at the beginning of each new year for performance reasons.

Every year, there is a growing chance that, based on your bond with the egg, it will hatch. There is also a chance that after 10 years of not hatching, the egg will end up being a dud, forcing you to hatch the egg via ceremony. That is basically all in regards to Cradling.

Dragon Blood

Dragon Blood is a mechanic that defines who can cradle an egg; By default, only Valyrian Cultures (High, Essosi, Westerosi Valyrian, Tolosi and Mantaryan - and derivatives) can cradle an egg. Houses such as House Targaryen, or any house that successfully becomes a dragon-riding house with the Hatching Ceremony - will be valid to Hatch, Tame and Cradle Dragons. Lastly, anyone with a blood connection up to three generations to someone with Dragon Blood is also considered valid. That is to say, be careful how you marry and grow your family, let alone sleep around; you wouldn’t want too many bastards running around 😉. This mechanic also has a set of game-rules to switch through.

Egg Laying

Your dragon can lay eggs, and every year, there is a random chance they will lay one or more eggs, with a slight preference for laying one egg over multiple ones. However, what's important is that dragons age differently and thus have different times when they are more or less fertile. Depending on their age, you might get more or fewer eggs. If your dragon lays multiple eggs, the amount is weighted randomly based on factors such as your bond with the dragon, whether they have a mate, traits, and age. There is also a significant chance (base 30%) that your dragon has left at least two eggs before their passing, in which case you will get the eggs they left behind.

2024.05.19 17:42 gaztheowl First impressions of new Tesla owner

First impressions of new Tesla owner
I have never owned a Tesla or any all electric car before but got the opportunity to save some tax via a company car lease. Got a 2024 Model 3 RWD delivered this week and so far I’m blown away. Feels very premium inside, and my son was BEYOND excited at discovering the rear screen.
The indicators, which I imagined being a big issue have been anything but and after 4 days I’m already used to the new setup.
One gripe is the automatic wipers. Honestly, dreadful. Oscillating between hammering back and forth in the bone dry or totally stationary during a heft downpour.
I have also signed up for the Electroverse card to help with non supercharger top ups. Has anyone any experience with it?

2024.05.19 17:41 Present-Process-2898 What do you guys think of this situation? Do you think I was wrong?

Sorry this is long. T and I (18f). S (18mtf).
Backstory:
So I have these two “friends”. Or Had or whatever. I met one back in middle school and the other 1-2 years ago my junior year of high school after I had switched to an alternative school from my regular school. Things were pretty good. I didn’t talk much to the girl I knew since middle school (let’s call her S) because we were in different classes and we havent really spoken since middle school but we were friendly. Whenever we saw each other in the hall or at lunch we would say hi or whatever. The other girl (lets call her T) I talked to the most out of everyone. I was with her pretty much every day during school. I am not the type of person to answer text messages or phone calls or hang out outside of school/work which I guess has always been a problem. For her not for me. Maybe it’s the aquarius in me that wants to be left alone 90% of the time lol. I would hang out with her outside of school sometimes because I wasn’t working much other than a part time job a couple hours after school so I had a little time.
On to the story:
I graduated back in September. T and S got a lot closer after I graduated. I started working full time and didn’t have time or desire to go out whenever anymore. I also really didn’t want to hang out with her either for lots of reasons but mostly because she just was worried about different things. I wanted to graduate as quickly as possible so I can start working full time until I could start EMT school. She was worried about whatever girl she was fighting that week and her ex boyfriends or whatever. And a bunch of other things that annoyed me about her. I didn’t care and I wasn’t worried about those kinds of things anymore. So we didn’t really talk much anymore. She would text me A LOT. I would answer once in a while. It went on like that for months. Last week I had texted her that maybe we could got out to an 18+ club on Friday since she had been wanting to go out. Club’s don’t seem like my type of seem but she likes parties so I figured i’d go and try it out since we just turned 18. S was going to come along as well. Then last Thursday was when things blew up I guess. It was about 11 PM and a show I watch every Thursday at 10 just ended and I was taking a shower to go to sleep because I was tired. Then T and S start blowing me up i’m talking 3-4 phone calls from each of them. I didn’t answer at first because I was going to sleep. Then S texted me talking about she and T got into an argument and T sped off and she heard a crash from her house and thinks she got into a car accident. So I called T. She didn’t answer the first two times. I figured she was talking to an officer or something. The third time she answered and I heard sirens in the background and she told me she got into an accident. I asked if she was okay told her to drop her location and told her I was coming to pick her up and take her home because it was 11:30 at night and the part of town where they stay isn’t exactly the safest. When I got there I didn’t see her and started to call her. She wasn’t answering. I didn’t see any police cars or any crashed cars and I called her maybe 4 times and she wasn’t answering and she had turned off her location and I was just driving around aimlessly and stupidly. So at this point I was thinking this was a set up and I was annoyed and started heading back to my house. Right as I was leaving she finally called me back and said the police cars and tow truck already left and she was waiting for me at their neighborhood park. I told her I just drove past there and I didn’t see her and she said she was walking around looking for me. I was annoyed still and just told her to go back to the park and meet me there. So I finally get to the park and call her. She says she’s sitting on the baby swing and her leg is stuck and wants me to go get her. (I didn’t think this was weird because T is like insanely skinny so she usually fits in baby swings no problem.) I told her no because I was already annoyed and really didn’t want to get out of the car in the part of town we were in and said just pull your leg out and get in the car. She said she can’t and insisted she really was stuck so I got out of the car to help her. As I walked into the park all of a sudden both T and S jumped out the corner at me. Obviously it scared me since it was already at this point midnight and again the part of town we were in. At this point I was mad and just walked away from them got into my car and drove off. They tried to ask me to take S home but I just left. The next morning (the day we were supposed to go to the club) T texted me and asked if we were still going to the club that night. I told her no I didn’t want to go anywhere with them anymore. She said I was “green” (I don’t really know what that means honestly Im assuming it means wrong?? Damn am i getting old? lol) for not coming since it was my idea. I was still mad and didn’t answer. A little later she texted me again and said “alright bet bro im done ✌️ “ again dont know what this meant and honestly didnt care I didn’t answer that text either. S then texted me a while after that and was basically begging me to come with them. I told her no I needed some space from them after last night what you guys did was crazy. Who lies about being in a car accident that’s some crazy shit and wasting my gas and time like that. She went on about how it was just a joke and they didn’t mean to upset me and apologized. I accepted and told her she knows I love her and is just upset right now. She then apologized again and said she hopes I change my mind about that night I liked the message and just left it at that. Throughout the day S kept calling me and I didn’t answer not because of what happened but because I was going pet store to pet store with my sister because we were looking for a puppy. She then texted me again around 6 pm and said she really needed to know if i was coming that night so she could send an uber to my house of not. I told her “no I already told T i’m not coming but you have fun 💙” she replied thank you and that was that. I then got a message from S saying “ T wants to know if you want us to wait for you or meet us there” I was confused because I had JUST told her I wasn’t coming so I just replied to my own message where I said I wasn’t coming with the point fingers emoji at the message. That was the last I talked to them. Im pretty sure T and I aren’t friends anymore which i’m fine with honestly. I am a little sad about S. We haven’t been close since middle school but she’s always been so sweet and adorable but it is what it is I guess.
What do you guys think? Was I wrong?

2024.05.19 17:40 Longjumping_Tap_2429 Sexual neglect

Hi guys, just wondering if I’m wrong or right here. I understand this may come across quite misogynistic but need some opinions.
Me 26m and partner 25f
My partner has it pretty sweet, we have a 3 year old child that goes to Nan’s twice a week so she can have a break, to make her life easier I pay for a cleaner so she literally doesn’t need to do any cleaning at all she can’t cook so I do every night (this can be a little difficult because I work 16 hour days regularly) always in my home office so around 5pm I’ll do the dinner then go back to work, any free time I get I spend with my child, I get up to him everyday so I can see him in the morning and spend an hour or so with him. She wanted a dog….we got one she didn’t want to walk it so I pay for a dog walker, all our clothes our done by a laundrette not her, we go on at least 2 holidays a year, live in a £1m house, rolls Royce on drive etc, her life is literally unreal I pay for it to be so easy and simple she has lunch out everyday most women’s dream, I expect two things from her…..I don’t care that she doesn’t want to cook or clean etc that doesn’t bother me I expect loads of love from her, and sorry to be crude but I expect her to be sucking whenever I want, she used to do it at the click of fingers she knew it was important to me and I would give her whatever she wanted if she was like that, 8 years in we are majorly successful but she has no care for my sexual needs, she actually think she has it difficult. Am I wrong for thinking about ending it ? It’s not necessarily the act of not doing it that makes me want to finish her it’s the fact she won’t do the one and only thing I ask her to do. Most partners expect their partners to have the house spotless and dinner on the table etc,
Am I wrong ?
Tldr - I’ve given my girlfriend a perfect life now she doesn’t suck

2024.05.19 17:39 Ryftzzz BMW M2 OG / M2 LCI / M2 Competition F87

Hey guys,
first of all I have to say I love all of your cars in this reddit.
Now to my Point. I've been looking at M2s, wasn't a fan of them in the past but for they have been growing so much on me that I do wanna get one as MY first car. I know what most of you are gonna say, but I believe Iam mature enough to not do stupid stuff and Iam buying it with my own money not parents. I have been driving a car for the past few months, nothing extreme tho but this will be mine for the first time.
Now I would Love to get it in Manual which is a bit of a problem and to be honest iam kinda losing hope.
Since its a first higher HP car id want to have decent traction on it. Im not really interested in drifting it and all, I wanna build it to have amazing grip and stick to the road with good tires...
Im not sure how much Traction Difference there is between all the M2s and how TC works on them if there are differences between them please let me know so I can take that into account.
Another problem is N55 or S55. I have some friends with older N55 engines and they seem to be having a ton of problems with it but I also keep hearing that the M2 N55 is very reliable engine online so Iam a bit confused abt it. I do LOVE the sound of it + its a bit better price which is why Iam leaning more towards LCI or OG M2s
One of the most important thing I wanna ask is How much Miles/KM shoud be the max I should Look for on both engines? I have no idea how it is with these 2 engines. :3
What would you guys do In my situations and if Possible could u give me reasons why u would choose that?
Thank you very much and I hope yall got greats day! -Ryftz

2024.05.19 17:38 greeneyes1985 Chews EVERYTHING!

Chews EVERYTHING!
Love this guy so much! I need your help / suggestions / opinions... He's 8 months old. We currently take him for 2 walks a day, approx 45 mins each, except when it's hot, we go for shorter walks, but more frequently. We've taken him to parks and try to engage him in fetch to let him run out some energy, but he loses interest after like 3 throws and just walks around sniffing... so I'm not sure it's exercise he's lacking necessarily.. but he chews everything! Shoes, baseboards, anything wood, bench in our hallway entrance, furniture. We're home when he does it so we give him trouble and give him one of his millions of toys instead and praise him for chewing the toy instead. He attempted to wake up my husband last night and when that didn't work, he started chewing my slippers, he gave him trouble and put him in his cage. We let him out, I came downstairs only to find him chewing it again like he didn't just get in trouble 20 mins. It's like he's not learning, not getting it, or just doesn't care. 1. How do I make him learn?! 2. Why does he chew everything he shouldn't and not his toys?? Please help me. 🙏

Always thought one of the coolest features in the older games was having to suspend players, and then the NCAA potentially coming in with the hammer if you weren't harsh enough. Would be awesome if they brought something like that back again! What are some other tiny features that you guys loved?

2024.05.19 17:35 WwwWario Unsure if my girlfriend is interested in her ex. What's your thoughts?

Hi! Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'll try to make it short.
I (26M) is in my first relationship ever with my gf (29FM). I'm very conflict shy and perhaps too much of a people pleaser, but she is a very understanding and tough/cool girl. She's said multiple times how I'm the kindest person she's ever met (and I humbly think she means it, especially when she's talked about her asses of ex boyfriends). We've been together almost a year now :) Had its ups and downs but we've never really had a fight. Mostly that she's told me when she's not happy with things (in a very respectful way), and I take it too personally and apologize like crazy. But we've had it good.
We practically live together. About a month or so ago, I started to fear she may not be attracted to me anymore, as our sexlife started to drift further and further apart each time, ending up with 3 weeks (give or take) between each time. I often hinted that I was interested, but I fully respected it when she apologized and said she was too tired, etc (something I obviously said she didnt have to apologize for). She often tells me I'm such a good guy, and I tell her I like her a lot too. But I started to fear she was losing attraction to me.
But here's the other thing: One of the main type of "problem" we've had is that she gets jealous rather quick sometimes. I started talking to a girl and a dude one of the first times we were out, and she said (laughingly) if I was interested in her. I said obviously no. Yet, when she gets drunk, she often goes around talking to everyone - including random dudes. I dont mind. But I find it weird how she can do that but I couldn't.
She has multiple times later asked me if I was interested in someone else, and most recently was some weeks ago when she got really upset thinking I was cheating on a party, when in reality I was comforting a friend. At that point, I finally said respectfully that "this is not okay to be accused of", and she felt really bad the rest of the night. I comforted her, even though I thought it was right to stand up for myself for once.
We've been really good since. But a few days a go, I noticed she left her phone open on snapchat, and I saw she had a snap streak with her latest ex-boyfriend (who also was the nicest of them..) with 6 days. And, just now, I saw a notification pop up on her phone on the table which was his ex sending her a reel on Instagram.
Should I be worried? It's just, this girl is very tough, she knows how horrible it feels to be cheated on herself (like, she is REALLY against cheating), and she is very smart. I just don't see her ever doing anything like this. But I'm scared she may be interested in her ex again, in a non-cheat way but rather a "I may leave you for him" way.
TL;DR: My first gf ever. She's smart, tough, had a tough road with ex boyfriends. We've been together for a year. She's been jealous many times, and I've always apologized even tho I haven't done anything. We have it good. But sex life is several weeks apart now, and I see she's snapping with her latest ex boyfriend lately. But this is 101% not the girl to cheat, and we often tell each other we really like each other. Should I be worried?

2024.05.19 17:35 Doom-Devilmanscaler Human vs Chimp

Okay so I keep seeing these Mike Tyson vs Chimpanzee posts so let's break this down. I'll start with the chimpanzee. I'll be using males for this scenario.
Pan troglodytes also known as the common chimpanzee stands at roughly 5 feet (152.4 cm) and 80-130 pounds (36.3-59 kg) some are larger but that's unusual. It was originally believed that a chimpanzee was 5 times stronger than the average human due to anecdotal evidence in the 1920s when Suzette, a female chimp in a fit of rage supposedly pulled 1,260 pounds (572 kg). However, no other study showed a chimpanzee being capable of such a feat. In fact, recent studies with chimpanzee muscle fibers show that chimpanzees are only 1.35 to 1.5 times stronger pound for pound then an average person of relative body mass (same size as the chimp) which is due to chimpanzees having a ratio of 67% fast twitch muscle fibers to 43% slow twitch muscle fibers but humans are able to out perform them overall (due to us being bigger). Now the deadly weapon of the chimpanzee isn't their strength, rather it's their bite. They have massive canines several times larger than that of a human's canines and it is estimated that they have a bite force of 1,300 psi though there isn't much backing this up at all so take it with a grain of salt. Chimpanzees are also fast and can run at speeds of 28 mph and are very durable and can keep attacking despite being injured. Chimpanzees are highly aggressive with them having Reactive aggression more than proactive aggression. Reactive aggression is a spur of the moment aggression which can make the chimp extremely unpredictable. Chimpanzees while being nowhere near as cognitively adept as humans are still highly intelligent animals and are aware of the weak points other primates have.
Now let's look at humans
Since the average size for our species is different depending on where you go I'll be using the average from America. The average for an American male is 5'9" (175.26 cm) tall and weighs roughly 197 pounds (89.4 kg). The average modern male is capable of outperforming chimpanzees overall due to us being bigger according to the studies on said muscle fibers and you have some serious freaks of nature among humans. The average male human can punch with a force of roughly 100-450 joules or 70-330 foot pounds. However, you have people like Mike Tyson who's punch is estimated at a whopping 1,600 joules or roughly 1,180 foot pounds. Rocky Marciano's punch was 1,028 joules or roughly 758 foot pounds. Hell the punch of an average pro boxer ranges from 700-1,000 joules (516-737 foot pounds) it's the same for MMA fighters. These numbers reach 9 to 10 times more than the force an average human can exert. And even among these you have exceptional monsters like Francis Ngannou who has a punch of 129,161 franklins units that is 51,000 foot pounds/second which is equivalent to 1,124 pounds of force (510 kg) this is estimated to be the equivalent of 96 horsepower or the equivalent of a 12 pound sledgehammer being swung overhead at full force. And even strongmen have shown capabilities of extreme punching power like Eddie Hall who crushed Francis Ngannou's best score with an insane 208,901 franklin units of force. A kick is even more devestating. I can't find the average kick of a normal joe so I'll use the kick of an NFL kicker as a baseline which is 2,002 Newtons or 450 pounds of force whereas an elite fighter can kick 2,300 pounds of force or 10,230 Newtons. The hardest Muay Thai kick comes in at an insane 2,749 pounds of force or 12,228 Newtons. A human has much greater strength in our legs then in our arms as you can see with these numbers. In terms of muscle fibers it depends but the average male human has it pretty even at 50% fast twitch and 50% slow twitch muscle fibers. However, strength training increases the amount of muscle fibers. The percentage can increase all the way to 90% fast twitch muscle fibers. Humans are also restricted a lot of the time due to the restrictions our bodies set on us so we don't harm ourselves and we can only use 100% of our strength in the form of "hysterical strength" aka an adrenaline rush. This usually appears in life or death situations and can even impact our pain tolerance to an incredible degree. In terms of speed humans move anywhere from 8 mph to 28 mph. And for reaction speed a pro fighter can react to 190-200 milliseconds. For intelligence that's self explanatory humans take that. While our jaws and canines are smaller than a chimpanzees our bite is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the world due to the amount of bacteria in our mouths which almost always lead to infection in fact it's so much of a concern that if someone bites you it's urged by doctors to seek medical attention immediately. We are also capable of using many parts of our bodies as weapons due to our superior mobility/flexibility and we can use various tactics and tools. In terms of aggression humans have more proactive aggression than reactive aggression. Proactive aggression is aggression that's planned out and is seen in highly intelligent animals but no other animal has proactive aggression like what's seen in humans.
That's it for the breakdown you guys can decide from this who wins between these two hominids.

2024.05.19 17:34 JaySpeaking MLB DFS pitchers/stacks for DraftKings - 5/19/24

Pitching GPP core:
A. Nola, 9800 – Good matchup against the Nationals. This has quality start written all over it. Nats have not been playing good recently and even their Ks are ticking up some. He’s right up there with Burnes for having one of the top ceilings on the slate and I like him a lot.
C. Burnes, 9600 – Great matchup against the Mariners. You know I have been targeting Seattle all season at the rate that they strike out, so of course I am going to be interested in Burnes here. His K-rate has been down for his standards, but Seattle has been striking out at a huge clip against righties, and this could be one of those vintage Burnes strikeout performances that we haven’t seen in a while. Love the upside for him and Nola today.
Pitching cash core:
A. Nola, 9800
C. Burnes, 9600
Top Stacks:
  1. NYY – I will forever target Chris Flexen when he is on a slate. Load up the usual cast of Yankee power bats, led by Judge.
  2. KCR – The Royals check in at #2 for me. Sears is a massive fly ball guy. Righties are the primary target.
  3. HOU – Colin Rea isn’t a very good MLB pitcher. Can target the usual suspects and both sides of the plate are in play.

2024.05.19 17:34 ChinggisHan People who have done advanced parole multiple times for work reasons

Hey guys! So I made it back into the United States from a work trip to London via advanced parole! The side benefit of having an entry with inspection is amazing of course and just traveling out of the country for the first time in 22 years was just something special! I highly recommend if anyone can do it, to do it! Especially if you don’t have legal entry. Doing it now before the next election is critical imo.
I had another post where I described my timeline and experience. One thing I’d add is you will need to have nerves of steel when coming back. Everyone’s experiences are different but for me, the airline I was using refused to let me board until I had to call my company’s lawyer who then had to get the director of passenger operations from JFK to call the airline to validate the document.
This honestly scared me off from doing advanced parole ever again. But now I got put on another project that needs me to attend regular calls with the Japanese team of 2 clients and a Hong Kong team of another client. So I began thinking this might be a great opportunity for me to visit Tokyo to either meet them in person or at least be in the same timezone for a couple weeks where we can have a few dedicated sessions and really hammer out the project.
So for people who’ve done advanced parole multiple times, especially through work, I wanted to get your thoughts and experiences. And had some questions.
  1. How long did your advanced parole take? Mine was surprisingly fast. biometrics in October 2023 and my original advanced parole approved at the end of December. I never received that one so I had to do an emergency request to not jeopardize my trip.
  2. How long was yours issued for? They told me daca recipients only get single entry for one month.
  3. Were you questioned or had any issues on your return home?
  4. Did you get your employer to cover the fees? Or did you pay out of pocket. I had my employer cover it the first time mainly to add more credibility to my case. That this is truly for work. Does it weaken your case if you apply by yourself and pay for it? Or do you just need the letter from the employer? Mainly cuz my Boss will not approve paying for this again due to limited budget.
  5. Do you have any tips for explaining to airlines how you’re able to return to the United States? The airline questioned my document and basically said it was not legitimate due to them not being familiar with it and USCIS made a really bad typo in the body (United Stales lol). If I do this myself, I will not have the company lawyer who can pull strings again at JFK. Unless I try to get the contact info of the person who talked to the airline and confirm if he can help me.
Thanks!

2024.05.19 17:34 Proctor-47 I believe that The Tarantulos Brood are an objectively horrible team

I just returned these (at least in my opinion) useless goofballs yesterday to my go-to place for Warhammer stuff, and picked up The Horns of Hashut instead. Where do I even start with them?
-No unique Quad ability for the team’s leader to use. Yeah, the Spider Swarms have one, but they die so fucking fast that they barely get a chance to use them, and the Quad is a very high risk, high reward one.
-The fighters are so squishy that they make The Royal Beastflayers look like The Thunderstrike Stormcasts. An average of 3 toughness and 8 wounds per fighter? And there’s only 12 fighters despite the fact that you’ve basically got a 50/50 chance of killing one with just one attack? Huh?! Also, their leader barely has as many wounds and toughness as a single Praetor, which I think is pathetic.
-A lot of their abilities revolve around giving the Spider Swarms extra move and attack capabilities, but when they die after one attack, there are only three of them (that’s not even 25% of the whole team), the ability that revives them is expensive, and their attack potential is pathetic, it feels like spending 80,000$ on a VW Beetle when you could’ve spent that money on a Ford F-150.
-They do have some good immobilizing abilities, but again, when these guys are that easy to kill, you’re only really getting a kick out of that in game modes that are heavily based around controlling territory, and even then, there’s a chance that you’ll get 4 guys into an area they need to be in, only for 3 of them to get killed by halfway through round 3 because of how fragile they are.
-No ranged attacks? For a team that’s THAT FUCKING EASY to kill in any form of combat? An average attack range of 2 inches isn’t enough to compensate for that!
-If they at least all had 6 inches of movement or more, I could maybe forgive their overall uselessness and see them as a great team for playing treasure and keep away based games so that they could basically just run all over the map and use Skittering Ascent to stay away, but most of the units can only move 5 inches, and ranged attacks can still really fuck them up.
And that’s the end of the criticisms that I want to make about these redundant clowns.
Anyone agree with me? Why or why not?

What's up guys! It's your friendly Genshin overthinker Inotia King. As always before we begin I just want to make sure new readers have checked out my first topic which is the basis for all my theories. So if you haven't checked that out yet please click here.
The new story's come and gone now and it seems to just be a reinforcement for what we've seen previously. We did already know that Remus tried to pull a Deshret but now we're seeing how far people go to achieve this flawed idea. Both Remus and Deshret before him realized just a little too late that preserved eternity was never going to work and dissolving everybody's consciousnesses into a collective goo was a bad idea. The Golden Slumber didn't save anybody and neither would melting people into Ichor, shoving their bodies into statues and then shoving them into a magical musical score. Ei lucked out in this sense. She had Yae pulling out all the stops to prevent it, using the Traveler to push Ei into place for Makoto to finally show her what she'd learned herself.
So while it isn't groundbreaking to know that Boethius was wrong just like Rene would also be wrong centuries later I think this quest series gave us a few more details and showcased more of the research the miHoYo devs do for these regions. Therefore just like I did last year with Farakhkert I want to discuss a few of them.
https://preview.redd.it/3et7oxo79e1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=044bdf3b50882942127e2457a31d3298f8edc333

We've actually known about this city (town?) for a long time. I think it's actually the first Fontaine city we learn about, all the way back when Inazuma first released. I don't think anybody really thought too much about it either but now it's name really makes sense. Petrichor is made from the two Greek words petr and ichor so in terms of Genshin it's very on the nose. Remus literally turned his people into ichor by dissolving their Oceanid bodies with the Primordial Sea and then shoving the resulting goo into statues, the petr or stone. In real life petrichor is just the smell of rainwater on dirt and the word ichor is actually what the Greeks called the blood of gods. From a Genshin perspective it was in a way what Remus intended the Ichor to be, a way for humanity to break free from fate which they believed was the power the gods had over them.
But what is actually new is where Petrichor is. Previously we didn't even know that Fontaine was on an artificially raised platform so there was no reason to believe Petrichor would fall into some weirdly separated space yet still be called part of the region. Our oldest information about it was just that it's waters were very pure and it was beautiful. Yeah that's pretty much all of Fontaine though. In fact we knew so little about Petrichor back then that even by v4.3 Xavier, who is a local never talked about how it wasn't actually located on the Fontaine plateau but rather some separated area where even the drown-proof aspect of Fontaine's waters didn't reach. So what is this area of Fontaine called? Nostoi which is Greek for "return." In our world it was part of the story about the Trojan War, preceding Homer's the Odyssey and acts like a prologue for that part of the story, the return of the Greek heroes besides Odysseus back from the war. (There's an "Ajax" who dies in this story though he's not the same Ajax that Childe is based on.)
Side Note: This timeline placement might also be important but that's a topic for another day.
There's actually a French connection to Petrichor too probably to justify it's inclusion in a French region lol. If you talk to Xavier's childhood friend (and girl next door) Goldoni, her possessing Remurian tells you about Petrocorii a territory of Remuria that fell to barbarians. In our world the petrocorii were Gauls that opposed the Roman Republic during Caesar's time. Unlike petr-ichor, petro-corii is Gallic for four (petro) armies (corios) with corii acting as a common suffix for their tribes.
Actually this connection to Gauls keeps going. In the same dialogue that Goldoni tells us about Petrocorii she name drops Lucius Septimius Sebelius which is a reference to Emperor Lucius Septimius Severus. (Sebelius is likely just an intentional bastardization of Severus but Sebelius is a real surname too.) Severus is notable for being the founder of the last Roman Dynasty before the Crisis of the Third Century, when Rome was temporarily defeated by the Gallic Empire. I actually brought up this part of Roman history in another topic about something that should have been totally unrelated lol. It was about how religion was historically tied to currency on our side of the world.
Side Note: Goldoni herself may be a reference to the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. I bring this up because it's a common theme when it comes to Remuria but that's also a topic for another day.
Finally when possessed Goldoni calls Xavier, Xaverius. This is a reference to Franciscus Xaverius or Saint Francis Xavier, the first missionary that went to Japan before it went into Sakoku. The name Xavier is interesting by itself though. It actually predates most of these references because it's a Latinized version of the Paleo-European (Basque) surname Echevarria meaning new house. The Basques are the last surviving ethnic group native to Europe (current Europeans are all some form of Indo-European, including the Celts, Romans, Germanics) and their modern populations are located in Spain and France, influencing both nations over time. Who knew our engineefilmmaker would be such an interesting reference to his hometown which also is a preceding ancient culture that heavily influenced the modern French-inspired one?
Side Note 1: After completing the Remuria World Quest it's discovered that Petrichor is stagnating. The elderly are increasingly closed off and the young find the town boring and are starting to leave. This might be a reference to the Vatican which has the world's oldest median age. As the headquarters of Catholicism it's also very traditional and young people have been leaving it too, though part of the reason is disillusionment of religion over the many scandals plaguing the church. (That said the young Petrichorians might wanna stick around. If Mecantre and Babisse are brainstorming what I think they are then Petrichor might become really interesting one day.)
Side Note 2: Geographically Petrichor would more likely be based on Corsica but there is no shortage of self-importance as a stereotype of the Corsicans. No young people are going to ditch that town anytime soon. It was the birthplace of Napoleon after all. However that could actually be the link to Petrichor, to the pre-World Quest version where everybody is a proud Remurian. According to a friend I have who is part French, as arrogant as the rest of the world see the French, the French see the Corsicans. And certainly that was the vibe we got upon speaking to all of the Remurians.

Yes the previous section was just the name of the region and all the stuff we can gather from just that. That's how miHoYo's devs do things haha
Now for a speed round. Hortus is the Proto-Indo-European for garden while euergetis is Greek for a worker who does good work. Together it probably means Garden of the Good Worker. However Euergetis can also be a title applied to good leaders specifically female leaders of the Hellenistic world. (Euergetes is the masculine form) Cleopatra III was also called Cleopatra Euergetis for example. The "garden" can only be reached by doing the World Quest so it's likely this garden honors Sybilla who does have the merits to justify the title.
With Caesareum Palace I'm pretty sure miHoYo was going for the specific Caesareum of Alexandria so they mean a temple but that's not was Caesareum actually means. It just means Julius Caesar who of course doesn't exist in Genshin. (although going off of Rene's Root Cycle stuff he's supposed to show up sooner or later lol)
Collegium Phonascorum is probably the easiest to match with the theme. It's just a group of music teachers. Since the whole thing was getting people ready for the Grand Symphony it makes sense to have some teachers teaching the music stuff. That said it's not actually a group at all. It's the name of a place and that makes sense with its real name 谐律院 or Courtyard of Harmony. Actually 谐律 is really fitting. The term does mean harmony but in both the sense of being united in peace and in terms of musical harmony, being in tune with each other. It's a very nice allusion to what the Grand Symphony was meant to do.
That said Phobos is such a red flag lol! Phobos aka phobia is the God of Fear. (alongside brother Deimos) No wonder this genius plan failed.
https://preview.redd.it/k2lmfvgafe1d1.png?width=1364&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd55e79583981fdd6931c63f78390870e79fedf2
Wasn't Fortuna the man's boat? Can't have a physical device double as an abstract concept my friends. That said if Fortuna actually means fate then it fits even better with the Stella Fortuna thing Ashikai came up with before, but she'd have to forego the connection with sun gods.
Sebastos is the Greek version of Augustus. But I don't think Sebastos Remus is correct syntax. If this was Latin then honorifics come after the name so Remus Augustus. It would be just like the Guuji Yae issue. In English the localization team went with Guuji Yae but Raiden Shogun. Raiden Shogun is correct but because of that the correct syntax would be Yae Guuji, surnames followed by titles. In Greek we have Oedipus Rex or Oedipus Tyrannus so the titles do come after the name and therefore it should be Remus Sebastos. But I read somewhere that modern Greek puts the titles first like keerie Remus would be Mr. Remus and not Remus keerie. If there are Greeks reading this please advise thanks!
Osse the cat first named himself Ouranides of Ouranopolis. Ouranides is just the name for the first generation of Titans because they were the children of Ouranos. I'm not sure what that was trying to reference for the game. Ouranos would be Saturn so he's one of the Classical Planets that have come up before. It is interesting to note that the children of the sea, the Oceanides were the second generation of Titans. Maybe Osse was trying to suggest that Remurians were the first generation of Fontainians while the ones we know of today (the former Oceanid humans) are the second?
Anyway Ouranopolis is a real place or it was. It's just south of Macedonia. Today there's a small town there called Ouranopoli with a very lovely beach. Pretty sure that's not what Remus was going for when he called it the city of the future.
And of course we learn that our keerie Ouranides is really Cassiodor based on Magnus Aurelius Cassiodorus who was born in Scylletium. Probably just a cute reference. Scylla himself is a reference to a monster from the Odyssey sometimes described like a hydra. (S)he was the lesser of two evils because the seemingly weaker Charybdis sucked up water and anything that happens to be floating on it. We have a reference to Charybdis too all the way back in the Narzissenkreuz World Quest when we go to Fort Charybdis Ruins.
Anyway Cassiodorus was a contemporary of Boethius and actually replaced him as magister officiorum when he was accused and executed for conspiracy against Rome. Gee if only Remus had let Romulus run things huh? The Romurian Empire would've seen Boe-boe coming a mile away. That said his charges were trumped up. Real life Boethius was a good guy. He was trying to reunite the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. (albeit it probably wasn't going to happen since the "Western Roman Empire" we're talking about is Germanic Rome and even today we have trouble accepting that Rome.) Cassiodorus himself lasted much longer probably because he was stationed in the Eastern Roman Empire and became more focused on education than politics. Finally, he would retire to Castellum not a golden castellum but a monastery where he continued supporting education.
Before we dive into the Faded Castle part there are NPCs that are also significant. First you have Contarini Tiepolo a cop whose name is actually made up of two surnames from important Venetian families. She interpreted some of her lingering memories from being possessed as the Liliacruces Ordo. This is another fiction actually. The Liliacruces Ordo is based on the Narzissenkreuz Ordo and was popularized in Fontaine's mystery novels that Paimon likes so much.
Her father Tiepolo is the Doge. It's not bit currency but Italian for the Latin Dux or leader. It was a title used in the Republic of Venice and he's actually based on the first Duke of the city-state, Jacopo Tiepolo. Duke is also a form of Dux.
https://preview.redd.it/wmrqpr1rge1d1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=c698b4b939e1f17e689557259a88af8e50722dc7

We already knew Cassiodor was a Harmost but now these Remurians are calling him Dominus. Harmost is Greek, specifically Spartan for a military leader. As it relates to what Remus did during his conquests the Spartans used the Harmosts to undermine Athens push for democracy with the Delian League. Similarly Dominus is a title used by Roman Emperors only after the Crisis of the Third Century when it started declining and becoming more authoritarian. Dominus actually translates to head or master like that of a household. For instance Roman slaves addressed their masters as Dominus.
And it's the household thing that plays out in the next term: Domus Aurea or the Golden House. (A dominus is the head of the domus.) It's cute to think this is some kind of link between Remuria and Liyue. Ashikai would love this kind of detail for her God King theory. But I don't think it's what it is. The Golden House in Liyue is literally just the Golden House 黄金屋 whereas Domus Aurea was 黄金的大宫. 大宫 is much more glamorous than 屋. For example the White House is 白宫 and 故宫 is the Imperial Palace. The real Domus Aurea relates more to that latter example. It was Nero's second home after he supposedly burned down Rome in 64AD just to have it built. Sounds about right with who we're dealing with in Genshin's version.
Side Note: Actually could that be why there's a Caesareum Palace? I mean Caesar did burn down Alexandria. And then after he died Cleopatra built the Caesareum to commemorate him. So it could relate to Nero and then our Remus. What do you guys think?
To get to Domus Aurea we're told we need to breach the Initium Iani. Initium means entrance and in the original Chinese it's door which actually works really amusingly with Iani or the Roman god Ianus because he's the God of Doors. Well pretty much all definitions for initium parallel what Ianus was so we could translate Initium Iani as the Doorway of the God of Doorways, Entrance of the God of Entrances, Transition of the God of Transitions, etc. The point was that Ianus represented a change in something like when you change rooms by going through a door, the changes in season every year or changing of the guard between historical periods. It's like the miHoYo devs just wanted to throw in a cute easter egg only nerds would get, the doorway to end all doorways lol
Side Note: Also because their names are so close to each other apparently Janus (alt spelling for Ianus) got mistaken for Juno (Iuno is the more accurate spelling*) sometimes confusing which god represented which month. It's funny because I had previously brought up Juno (and the Golden House actually) in that totally unrelated topic about the Gauls and the history of currency. Again this is all probably just coincidental. I just found it funny.
\or* Yuno for us anime fans. Rome's version was probably more stable though. Then again she is based on Hera so....

And that was all the references I found interesting from the new quest. It's really long so I think I'll leave it at that and save the lore deep dive for next time.

Once we dive down it turns out that the little harp thing we grabbed was part of a series that tells Remuria's history in the Ancient Autoharmonic Music Box.
The first piece of this melody is the Locus Amoenus or lovely place in Latin. The rest though are actually part of the Sequentia section of Mozart's Requiem which is of course a musical piece to honor the dead and also how we stop the Phobos. Sequentia is followed by the sinners being saved and brought to salvation in Offertorium, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. (Agnus Dei is an allusion to Jesus and there's another really obvious one in this quest too.) Mozart actually didn't complete his Requiem and died while only completing the introduction. Joseph von Eybler is the one that actually finished the Sequentia parts and then a guy by the name of Franz Xaver Süssmayr finished the salvation portions. Franz Xaver. Hmmmm. Yes Franz is Germanic for Franciscus or Francis and Xaver is the Germanic for Xavier. Cute that one of our first Fontainian NPCs and also a native to Petrichor has such a large role in its history, at least in real world references.
Before heading into the painting portal thing to get to memory world Remuria we can find a few choice books in this castle. I'll get more into them later but for now there was one term that's interesting. Cunicoricus is the predecessor to Erinnyes of Aremorica. In real life he's Welsh and the adoptive father of King Arthur in local legends. Last week I brought up Clervie and Crucabena who are also Welsh (and Irish) characters and King Arthur has been referenced a few times now with relation to Khaenri'ah.
