Warning this is a long read:
Hi there, here's what's up. My husband (26) and I(26) bought a house in 2022 because the place we were renting was sold out from under us and there was nothing available in our area during the rental crisis. We bought a 173,000 dollar house and it's been alright but we definitely settled and hope to move in the next 10 years or less. After we moved we had 6000 in extra money to get us started in this new area. We have no friends or family for support with our children (family lives an hour or more away & are generally uninterested in us or our kiddos unfortunately after many attempts to get them involved) so I work as a waitress in the tiny town we moved to and it averages $5-9/hr most weeks. My husband makes $31 an hour. 3 months after we moved into the house the electrical panel had a surge happen to it and it needed to be replaced because the old owner updated the panel without updating the wiring that went up and out to the road. This is something the house inspector noted as there was a double tap but he wasn't concerned. That cost us $3,000+ right off the bat that we paid in 3 months worth of payments because it's deemed an emergency it cost a lot and we have a well so we had no water for almost 4 days before we finally got it back on... Then my husband's car broke down and my engine blew in my vehicle within 6 months of each other. Both reliable up to that point but both would cost more than the value of the vehicle to replace what broke. So he got a truck and a few months later I got a van from someone I know from the restaurant with cash but with all that's going on we used up a lot of that available money. Well, fast forward to Friday night on his way home from work a vehicle didn't stop at a stop sign and my husband tboned them at 50 MPH even though he was slamming on the brakes. (He's okay-ish but his vehicle and theirs is not). He still owes $9,000+ on the truck because it's on a loan but we didn't have gap insurance it turns out even though we were paying "full coverage" The insurance company is saying less than 5 grand for payout but the vehicle sells for over $10,000 online to buy the same one. šŸ˜“ Are we screwed? Do we have to pay that out of pocket and then get another loan for a new vehicle? How are you all functioning alright? We're just trying to live life out here and we keep getting one thing after another that's hitting us no matter what we do. We have a strict budget and have been working towards savings goals and every single time we get something substantial saved it has to be spent it seems.
What would you do?
A)Take the insurance money and use it as a down payment for a cheaper vehicle and just continue payments on the vehicle we don't have but try to put it all on the same loan? For example his truck payment is $220 a month but if we get a payout from insurance should we buy a vehicle that costs around that amount we receive and just keep paying the truck as usual?
B)Sell everything we can and pay it off as soon as possible and then get another vehicle? Because during the summer we could suffer and have 1 vehicle but my husband works 6-6 most days and I wouldn't have a way to work since we have no public transportation in this town or taxis. & Because we have kiddos and no support I was going to have to stay home with them anyways but I can still work the weekends then.
C)Is there a way to just add the remainder of a part of a loan onto another loan? Can I just add the remainder of the truck to the house loan? That way we still have the same monthly payment and kinda start over on paying the house? Right now we have about $3,000 in savings that's available if it's needed but without family and support like I said we kinda can't touch any of that in case of an emergency again.
Our budget works for us USUALLY on a month to month basis but it's so hard to seem to get prepared for these big things that happen every few months or at least twice a year. If there's a good option you can think of please feel free to share. Looking to move onwards and upwards from this pit we're in. We really need advice. Thanks for reading this far if you did.
We live almost week to week at this point unless we wanted to dip into the savings we have which we don't and we need to get propane ($500) & new tires on my vehicle which is paid off. Liquid Networth: $2.74m. $1m in retirement accounts. Invested in Index funds and bonds.
Age 50. Single No dependents.
Mortgage: $1700/month. Car paid off. No other debts. House paid off in 12 years. Rate too low to be worth paying off.
Expenses: $50-55k/year before retire Post Retire: Include medical costs, dental, eye, ROTH rollover: Expenses: $85k/year. So a 3% withdrawal rate. With cushion for vacations.
Reason to Retire: I hated my job for 4 years. I transferred 2 years ago and then that transfer got blocked by HR or whatever 6 months later. Back to shitty job with no raises. A year later I was able to transfer again. Loved the job. Just got re-orged (3rd time in 5 years) to a job I do NOT want. I had to take a pay cut to transfer out of my old job so now I make less than when I started 5 years ago. I am back in a shitty dead end job with no raises that I do NOT want for less than when I started. Completely depressed. Tech market is bad and I can't go through interviewing again. I also have to be remote due to having back surgery. So that makes the market even worse. I never would have taken this pay cut to get reorged back to a similar bullshit job. I got lied to in the interview for the transfer. I have no faith that I'll be allowed to transfer or not get reorged again. You have to do 5 rounds of interviews just to transfer. I have passed these internally 3 times.
I am basically going to stop working and let myself be fired. I am remote so that means I just blow everyone off and make excuses.
Questions/Looking for Advice:
Medical Insurance: I always had employer PPOs. I have a really good plan now. All the market plans are HMOs. Ill have to give up my back surgeon since he is out of network. Do I get an HMO or an EPO? If its EPO, I can't get any out of network coverage. Looks like its about $500/month. I won't qualify for subsidies. Im not living that cheap and I need to move money to a ROTH anyway. $500/month is not a big expense to me.
Plan: I have $300k in bonds/cash. So sell same amount of stock each month to spend while market is high. Then use cash/bonds if market goes down. Pay semi-attention to it but don't sweat it.
I am stressed out now. My whole adult life I saved money. I never even sold a stock.
What else should I do? Ill buy the New Retirement software that seems to be good for planning how to spend. I also use Karstens Safe Withdrawl Rate toolbox.

So I'm a Host. Vehicle just got damaged. s panel above front wheel got pushed in. Don't know exact cost yet. Waiting to see what guest's insurance says. But they don't seem like they want to pay( do they ever?) Guest never got Turo insurance but they did start a claim with theirs. I took plenty of pictures and included them on trip photos. Started a claim with Turo. Today it's been about 5 days since trip's end. I'll call insurance on Monday but , I don't see that going anywhere. Guest insurance keeps insisting " Turo hasn't spoken to us' 'Neither has your insurance " My insurance is Lula but they're only off rental coverage. I've told them they have to speak to Turo. This is my 1st accident as a Host and not sure how to proceed. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One last thing, I haven't rated Guest yet. They said they were side swiped but did file claim. It's just their insurance is being difficult. Also the vehicle was left with about a little more than a quarter tank, when I gave it to them full. Hey Folks,
Thought I'd post here and get an opinion. I took my bike over to Westfield in Parramatta to pick up some basic supplies to make dinner. I arrived around 4:15PM (May 19th) and parked within the white lines of a parking bay. 30 minutes later I went back to the bike getting ready to leave. The first thing I noticed was my helmet had been moved from my footpeg to my seat. I figured maybe the person next to me had moved it to get a trolley around. No big deal.
Then I noticed my mirror was on the ground. OK, maybe a little bit of rage from having to move a helmet? Uncalled for, but a relatively minor fix. As I moved around to pick the mirror up and inspect the damage (mirror had been sheared off at the base), I noticed my signal lights and muffler were pushed in. Less rage, more of an accident. Then I noticed my plate was bent in and the default fairing kit holding the plate had been almost completely broken off. They were nice enough to pick the bike up though, which left me a little baffled.
I sought mall security to see if they had video cameras in the area. They said they didn't beyond the ones tracking license plates in/out of the garage. They offered to give me an incident report, which I declined. (Two of the guards walked down to the bike with me to see where it was/damage)
I debated calling the non-emergency line, but figured between no cameras, the (relatively) minor cosmetic damage (I rode the bike home after zip-tying the plate and fairing on), and lack of injuries or a party to report, that it would likely be a waste of my time. (Slow response/lack of interest in a minor crash.) FWIW: I doubt I'll go through insurance, short of Kawasaki telling me it'll be thousands to fix. I do have full coverage in addition to government CTP, if needed.
Is this worth making a report to the Police? I live in Parramatta, so heading to the NSW Police HQ is only a few minutes' walk for me.
TLDR: Someone likely backed into my bike in a car park at Westfield. Decided to run instead of taking ownership of the mistake. Broke some fairings, mirror, and bent my muffler. No injuries. Worth reporting this to the police in case they have more pull with Westfield Security / Westfield Security lied about not having cameras?

I live in Hawaii and donā€™t feel confident enough to go out in shorts and tank tops anymore because of the bumps and itch marks all over my arms, legs, and torso. It doesnt really make sense to spend this amount since its an LTR that i got through my company policy.

Hi lovely folks of dubai. Would like some clarity around my Health Insurance situation.
I am a Golden Visa holder working with a company in the UAE. The company provides comprehensive health insurance covering me and my family members (Daman). The plan is really good and the benefits / coverage are great.
In the very near future (say 2 to 3 months), I plan to quit the company and take sometime off. This is going to be at least for a year or so as I have a number of issues to resolve. Post that I don't know if I will easily get a job or not. But I would like to continue staying in UAE.
While I am fairly comfortable managing my expenses for the next few years even without a job, I have some challenges with my insurance. Within the family, one of the members has a life long pre-existing condition which is extremely expensive to manage.
What I wanted to understand is that when I move out of the company, can I transfer my existing insurance to my Golden Visa? If yes, will it be at the same premium which my company is paying currently? Lastly, what happens next year? Will they continue with the same premium (with a little additional for inflation) or will they significantly ramp up my premium? The reason I ask this is because I am OK paying the current premium. However, a steep increase in the premium would be challenging for me.
Just for clarity, the current cost of the pre-existing condition of the family member is close to AED 100K per year and the yearly premium for the whole family is around 35K AED.
Appreciate any inputs / guidance from members here. Unfortunately can't openly discuss this with the company HR as it implies disclosing that I plan to quit in a couple of months time.

Hi all, Despite having over 100lb to lose Iā€™ve been a slow loser at approx 1lb/week. I was initially on semaglutide for several months but then switched to zepbound about three months ago after I was blessed with insurance coverage.
Nausea and side effects have been much lower in Zepbound which is great because I have a SEVERE phobia of vomiting.
Well this morning I took my 5mg shot and then went out for lunch. I drink A LOT less now but the restaurant I went to was running a free guac with purchase of a special margarita. So I ate a small amount of guac and had two margaritas (in hindsight, probably should have one). Probably because I was tipsy, I went home and thought it would be a good idea eat a box of hot tamales šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø
Iā€™ve been feeling bloated and gross since then, which happens when Iā€™ve overeaten before, but then three hours later I vomited and another 12 hours after I vomited again.
Please put my mind at ease, Iā€™m just a ball of anxiety right now. Iā€™m still able to pass little bits of stool so Iā€™m assuming itā€™s not a blockage. This just is a normal reaction some have when theyā€™ve made the mistake of overeating on this medication right? Do I need to visit a GP first for a referral, or can I directly see a specialist? Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering how people are doing and what the general consensus is on things. I feel like I don't really have anyone to talk to about the industry right now. I have plenty of old coworkers but I don't want to wear them out only talking to them about the lack of work and stuff. I don't live in LA, I was thinking of moving there when I was working, but things slowed down so I'm still in NOLA. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one not working. Like I wasn't good enough and no one told me. I realized the other day I haven't worked in film in a year and a half, Nov 22. If things come back here in the fall it will have been almost 2 years. I started over and I'm in IT at a hospital now. It's 15 an hour with crappy health insurance. Far cry from 40 an hour and being in iatse with really good coverage. It's stable though and that's nice. I don't know if I even want to go back into film anymore, but financially I definitely should. Sucks being around professionals every day with stable careers who are helping people and seem like they have purpose for their lives while also making a good living. I suppose I'm jealous, but I also wonder every day if this could ever be enough for me, living a normal life. I don't care for it. Anyway, enough about me. How are you?

Can't there be a way to do an online survey with your ID and get birth control for free? I think even past Popes have supported birth control, Republicans don't want abortions, and liberals don't seem to have an issue with it. Why not? There has got to be a way to make this safe. I know plan it parenthood does this but why can't CVS or Wall greens? and i know "free" doesn't seem possible but if it prevents medical bills from people with government health insurance than it may be a good idea. Maybe this isn't an issue and anyone who wants it gets it. Maybe the unites states population is shrinking too much.

Hi everyone! I had my double prophylactic mastectomy , then expanders; and then the expanders were replaced with implants. I then had to have reconstruction due to capsular contracture and everything was great after the implants were replaced. My father passed away last June and I experienced grief induced weight loss which has caused drastic rippling and well, my breasts look terrible. Does anybody know if there is a limit on insurance covered reconstructions? I did switched from Aetna to United due to the company I work for being acquired, but I am mortified with how my breasts now look and not sure if insurance will cover another reconstruction. The plastic surgeon I went to is amazing, I have not schedule an appointment yet, but ideally I would like to go with much smaller implants. Any input is much appreciated. Thank you!! Hello,
I am a transgender woman (31 years old) who had neovaginal surgery about 3 years ago and have been dealing with symptoms that have been very confusing and I can't find any help or resources as to what could be the problem. I have a theory, but I wanted to post it here and see if there's anyone who could help me.
I had my surgery about 3 years ago, and there were complications, but eventually everything healed. a few years later I began noticing 'spotting' of blood, along with very red irritation and light bleeding in my inner labia, and my vagina. I was very alarmed, it was painful, but all my bloodwork came back negative for any stds or anything. My doctor eventually said I had vaginal degradation, even though I had been on estrogen gel packets. I realized this came shortly after my insurance changed my coverage to only include the generics, and a blood test showed my estrogen levels were 60 pg/mL, pretty low but not 0. My hypothesis was that the brand shift reduced the absorption of estrogen and my levels were too low, and I was experiencing vaginal atrophy similar to women in menopause. And so, I was prescribed estrogen vaginal cream and also switched to injections. Things resolved and stayed well resolved for 6 months. However, it came back again, and to my knowledge I haven't changed my dose much at all. I might have reduced it a smidge these past few weeks just cause sometimes the syringe is hard to read, but it would have only been a 10% reduction at most consistently.
I guess my question is have any other trans woman dealt with what appears to be vaginal atrophy and bleeding both internally and externally years after the surgury has already healed? Is it truly just hormones being too low sometimes? How have you managed it? Is there something I'm not considering? I'm nervous that it came back because I thought I had resolved it and I'm wondering if there is something else at play. I plan on rechecking my levels this week but I don't have access to my levels at this moment.
I was on 3.6 ml weekly of 5 mg/mL estradiol cypionate, and have been downshifting to 3.4 mL these past few weeks, for no real reason than to save some of the medicine and get more use out of the vial. My last hormone level test had my levels at 68 pg/mL.

Hi everyone! I have kind of a complicated situation I donā€™t know how to navigate.
After working with my primary care (PCP) for over a year on diet and exercise we have finally come to the decision to get on a weight loss injection. Iā€™m in my husbands insurance through his employer (he works for the state). My pcp advised me to contact my prescription drug coverage company to see what medication they cover and when I reached out they informed me that the only way to get it covered was to sign up for the states ā€œweight management programā€ and that once I got approved I would just have a copay.
Well, after looking into the ā€œweight management programā€ it would appear that I have to agree to give the state access to my personal medical records AND I have to be one of the first 2500 people in the entire state to have applied for this program.
By the time I spoke with my doctor about getting on this medication the program had already reached its maximum of 2500 participants for the year. Even if it hadnā€™t though, I do not like the idea that in order to get a medication that my doctor has deemed medically necessary for me that I have to sign up for a program run by the state and share my personal medical information to be able to MAYBE qualify to have this medication covered.
When I explained this entire thing to my primary care doctor she stated that this is unethical and possibly even illegal. She isnā€™t familiar enough with the laws though to know for sure.
Is there anyone more familiar with insurance laws that could give me any insight into this? I can share the state if necessary/allowed, I just donā€™t want to break the rules of sharing identifying info about the other party.
TLDR: my husbands state employee insurance requires members to share their medical records and be one of the first 2500 people in the state to apply to their ā€œweight management programā€ in order to get medically necessary weight loss medications approved through insurance.
