2024.05.19 16:17 Rusted-1 ARK 8 Chapter 20-Old gods, new hope
| \"What's a cult? It just means not enough people to make a minority.\"- Robert Altman HELLO EVERYONE! I'M BAAAACCKKKKK! Sorry, it's been a while, college and all. Now that I'm Back from college, I should post more regularly. The story shall continue! I might be a bit rusty, but I'm definitely getting back into the swing of things. Hope you all enjoy it. This fanfic is based on the fanfic The Isolationists, by Seeyouon_otherside, and a continuation of the stronger_together series. Constructive criticism is appreciated. Time Since First Contact: Y:0 M:1 W:0 D:0 Memory transcript: Commander Fango Feral, Tiwond of the Enforcers. âAgain,â I told Sunclick. He nodded as the security feed from the incident at the mall played once more in front of us. My niece Canilia Lieutenant Feral, Sunclick, along with the commander lieutenants of each district, all observed what was happening on the screen in front of us, from the human known as Sixer interacting peacefully with a couple, then that brat, who came out of nowhere, who was chasing some poor Zeyzell, then Ashina, who came out of the bathroom and slammed the brat on the ground. Then he and his friends left only for the brat, who disappeared before he left the door. âAnd his friends have no idea where he went?â I asked one of the commander lieutenants. âNo, sir. My husband was one of the people on that recovery team, and after heavy interrogation of the kids' friends, he simply disappeared. He left his friends completely abandoned and confused. They donât know where he went. It was like he just vanished.â One of the commander lieutenants spoke up. âThank you for the confirmation,â I told him. He swished his tail in acknowledgment and then started talking to the others as they bounced theories and questions off one another. Leaving me and my niece to ourselves, my niece stepped forward. âSir, I understand this is personal for you, especially since it involved Ashina.â my niece told me. âThank you for understanding that. You donât have to call me sir. You are my niece.â âI know, it's just a professional courtesy.â She responded flatly. I nodded. âThank you. I know you and her didnât always get along, especially after her parents died, but Iâm glad you, too, have become such close friends after we let her in under our roof,â I whispered to my niece. Looking at my niece's face, I wished I could take off that gas mask to see her smile. However, I knew what was under it, and any real chance of her being truly happy was most likely long, long gone. Ever since she lost her gift, she has been bitter and angry, focusing solely on protecting others from the same fate that befell her. Wait a minute, isnât the staying human Dominic staying with her? âCanilia, how are things with that human? You donât talk about him much.â She was silent. Then I heard a weird, cracking sound. It was very faint, but I could hear it as she was right next to me. It was coming from her mouth. I know that cracking sound. Itâs whatâs left of her cheek, curling into a smile. A Small one, but a smile nonetheless. âHe is very kind to me. He likes hugs, he likes to talk, and he likes to listen. I like that he likes to help me, although I have yet to show him this.â She gestured to her stomach, where her gift once was. I nodded. She was...happy... I nodded to Sunclick, who then took over the conversation so I could talk to my niece. He drew the attention away from us, allowing us to speak. âDo you think the aliens will be able to help you reclaim your gift?â I asked. She shrugged. âI sure hope so, another thing, however.â She spoke much more quietly. â Iâve been staring at the neighbors' kids again. I donât know how long Iâve been doing it, but Dominicâs caught me doing it twice. He knows something, and he will think less of me when he finds out.â She hung her head with despair. With all my heart, I wish I could reach out, grab her by the head, and yell at her that losing your gift isnât a sign of dishonor. She was wounded in combat. None of it was her fault, and that she should forgive herself. But I know that wouldnât work, sheâs too stubborn like me, one of the few traits. I wish she had never gotten it from me. If my sister was here now, she would kill me. âWhat has he done about it?â I asked. âWhen he saw you looking at the little ones.â She moved a little bit, causing her power armor to creek, then looked back up at me with the sort of, well, I donât know, I've never seen that look in her eyes. It was like Hope and joy, but more. âHe knows something is wrong. Itâs his medical training that tells him it and his instincts, heâs actually baked a few meats for me, and sometimes when I snap out of it, thereâs a blanket over me and a hot cup ofâŠcoco, I believe he calls it next to me. He is an excellent caretaker.â I couldnât help but smile. She finally found someone who isnât intimidated by her, who is willing to care for her that isnât me. I felt an odd pride at that, but Iâll take that pride. âIs the great Canilia Feral Smiling? Oh, I never thought I would see the da-.â My niece and I turned at the same exact time. Our combined staring rivals that of any sun's power, with how intense our staring was at the damned soul who dared make a comment like that at her. The moment our eyes landed on the poor soul, he shriveled faster than a drumling that was absorbed into a flesh pit. He quickly hung his head and scurried out of the room to the laughter of the other lieutenant commanders. I turned back to Sunclick, who was having a bit of a chuckle of his own, he looked up at me and gave him the thumbs up, and I returned the gesture. âHave the scanners picked anything up? The cameras, have they picked anything up about this person?â I asked him, the laughter quickly leaving the room as we returned to full seriousness mode. âSorry, commander, nothing, weâve picked up absolutely nothing about this guy. Weâve run background checks, and we believe a few leads and we have some units out there checking out all the leads, however, will take some time as there are quite a few, and we donât really know much about this kid. There are almost no files on him. The only thing we have turned up is a birth certificate and seventeen residences, which cannot be right. However, we did find something rather interesting. After talking to some of the people on the scene, we were able to discern a possible motive, which gave us a very good lead. Then, looking into that motive, we found a few of these.â Sunclick pointed to a stack of extremely old newspapers, the ones the type that came right after the third unification war, when hyperpaper was very rare, and the plants that needed to be used in hyperpaper production were almost all wiped out during the war, and these are made on type of cloth to save hyper paper. I walked over and picked one up, looking at the article that was circled. It read, âBoy's mother, abducted by aliens? Fact? Or postwar terrorist?â I looked at Sunclick. âI remember the post-war terrorist, and I put a few down myself.â My niece spoke out loud as she looked over my shoulder. One of the lieutenant commanders came up, picked up the newspaper stacks, and started handing them out to the others. âSunclick, I trust your judgment, but can you explainâŠthis?â I asked him. His eyes lit up like a Titan bug after it had ingested a bunch of parasites that were making their way out of its body. âI would love to! You see, this kid, for whatever reason, believes that aliens abducted his mother. Now, post-war terrorists were common, and they are running around, and it might even be true that a post-war terrorist kidnapper killed his mother. However, the body was never actually found like most terrorist killings. After the war, there was so much confusion because people didnât know what to do, and many were still bitter that we had won. For whatever reason, this kid got this idea into his head that aliens had kidnapped his mother, which everyone was kind of obsessed about, even more so that there are some literally living among us. Much to everyoneâs delight, I must say. However, with that single statement, that single line, and what witnesses told us at the scene. We have a much more narrow view of who this kid is, the only problem is, that the kid was never properly documented. Heâs a ghost in the system. The good news is his friends have been more than helpful, as they didnât realize he would go that far. They've been telling us everything about him, but after some digging, it turns out they know just as much as we do, next to nothing. Either this kid is extremely paranoid orâŠâ Sunclick went silent. âPlease, Sunclick, tell us.â my niece asked. He took a deep breath. He shifted nervously in his seat. âHeâs a part of the cult of the old God.â The emotion and general vibe of the room immediately shifted when the cult of the old god was mentioned: those rat bastards. âDo you think they moved up this far north?â I asked him. âHonestly, I think so, Iâve been working with some of the lesser district managers since all of you guys have been busy with the aliens, which I donât blame you for. Theyâre pretty freaking awesome. However, since their arrival, the cult of the old God activity has practically tripled twenty-fold. Itâs insane what theyâve been pulling off, from stealing military equipment to assassinating low-level political members-" "WHY IN THE OLD VOID WAS I NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS!?!" I screamed. Everyone in the room winced except my neice. Sunclick, who had received the full force of my explosive outbursts, had his ears pinned on his head and looked somewhat afraid of me now. I sighed and motioned him to continue. "Please continue." "....uh sorry...I was going to tell you eventually, as things are out of hand, which is probably about right now. However, you were busy with the aliens and...never mind, it's not important now. If this kid is a part of the cult of the old God, theyâve gotten extremely bold, and they will become a major problem for the aliens. Their whole goal is to purify the planet and kill the great protector so that their own God, the old God, the one who came before the great protector, can reign again, and we can expand past the red lightning veil and enter the greater galaxy. These aliens represent a massive threat to that ideology. Now they know thereâs another life out there, other empires, they will see the aliens as a huge threat. This means theyâll be number one on their bucket list to take out, and if they do that, the aliens could turn against us, seeing us as all hostile, which is not happening at all, considering just how nice theyâve been, theyâre also extremely cuddly, I mean, have you seen the way they-.â âSunclick, I understand you enjoy discussing advanced science with humans, but we need you to focus.â One of the commander lieutenants said. Sunclick stopped and nodded. âRight, right, sorry. As I was saying, the aliens represent a massive threat to their organization. However, this attack couldâve been a totally one-off situation where some random member decided to prove themselves. However, it also could have been something to test the alien's reaction to one of their own getting attacked. The aliens were mad, sure, but they trusted us to keep them safe. The aliens themselves didnât do much other than send down more equipment for us and some of their own people to monitor the situation.â Sunclick finished. I nodded my head. âThank you, good work as always.â he smiled and nodded as his ears returned to normal, then returned to his computer. I looked back at the lieutenant command, who had the Zeyzell and citizen who were assaulted under her watch. âHow are the two that were assaulted?â She grimaced. âNot great, I'm afraid. The Zeyzell has been having regular panic attacks, and the citizen has refused to come out of their house in the past two days. Theyâre too scared for their Zeyzell counterpart. The two have become great friends, which is good for AR, though.â She said, âAR?â I asked. âSorry. Many of the grunts have been using it, and itâs very catchy. Itâs called alien relations, AR.â I nodded and turned back to the screen as the scene played again. It was the kid, limping off out of the door, who would then disappear from his friend's arms. I glanced up at the screen a little higher, and thatâs when I noticed it. A camera is not connected to the system, barely a pixel on the screen. Itâs a private camera. How did we not see that? âSunclick, look up top of the ceiling on the screen,â I told him. He looked up, and his eyes went wide. âIt's a private camera! How could we miss that?â he said out loud. âNot important right now. Can you get access to it?â I asked him. This is the chance I've been waiting for to get this person who would dare assault the alien who's making my daughter so happy. âYes, sir, I can do that!â he proudly exclaimed. After a few quick taps on his computer, multiple connections, errors, and unknown errors, he punched the computer and got a connection. The tape played this time from the front. The angle was a bit weird, so we couldnât get a good look at the kid's face, But it was what was around his neck that mattered. âIâll be damned, a pendant of the cult of the old God.â my niece said as we all looked at it in surprised silence. â Iâm gonna have fun tearing that kid apart.â She said as she flexed her power armor claws. I looked at the pendent in silent anger. "Bold of the kid to wear it around in the open like that." She said aloud, and we all agreed. I turned around to the face of other lieutenant commanders. âThis is what weâve been preparing for. You know the drill: get your districts, alert every enforcement office if possible, and get the enforcers on the streets. Get everyone on higher alert. I want more patrols, and I want everything more. Not enough to alert the population that something is happening yet, just more than usual.â They all nodded and streamed out of the room. I turned to leave. However, an open door caught my eye. I turned and walked through it to see my niece standing on the balcony overlooking the city. I wandered out myself, power armor slightly clanking the entire time, the metal hitting the cold, polished concrete of the floor. I also looked at the sprawling metropolis we had built from this hell hole of a planet, its towering walls lined with guns and cannons to keep out the beasties. I walked up beside her and saw that something was in her hands. âWhat do you have there?â I asked her. I looked at it closely, and it seemed to be some sort of scarf. I didnât recognize the design or patterns. âDominic made this for me. I donât exactly know why. He just kind of did. He didnât ask for anything in return. He just gave it to me. He said he didnât want me to get a cold.â She brought the scarf to her neck, which was a perfect fit. She tied it around just underneath her mask, and when she was finished, she let out a puff of steam from her mask. âIt's a perfect fit,â I replied, smiled, and looked back out over the city. Looking over it, I thought about our history, the feral's bloodline, and how we have served as the worldâs protectors for so long. Now, it was threatened because only two ferals were left: me and my niece. Now, we have aliens to deal with. They seemed nice so far⊠I leaned a little farther over the railing. A glint of metal in the sky caught my eye and I looked up to see one of the Zeyzell transports coming down, most likely More Humans. I tracked it with my eyes as it landed in one of the newer landing pads with a loud clang, the landing gear hissing as it landed, and saw a large number of my people standing around there waving signs that said âWelcome!â and âHello new friends!â and other signs that said similar welcoming messages. I smiled and looked over at my niece. âHow has the cityâs morale been since the aliens have come here?â She quickly opened her wrist computer and typed minor keys on the tiny keypad. I still don't understand how she can use that, the screen is so tiny. âFrom last time, when it was already an eighty percent increase, an additional twenty-three point four percent.â I smiled even brighter and looked back down. The Zeyzell transport landed, and everybody cheered, and then the door opened as the Humans and a few Zeyzell came off the transport. My people began shouting names. Most likely for exchange partners. Immediately, the aliens again answered the calls and ran to their new friends. Many embraced in tight hugs and made what I assumed were happy noises based on how their mouths moved, as I could hear very little from up here. A few of the humans even started crying as soon as they embraced the larger frames of my species, practically melting into the "floofy fur" as the humans called it, of our fur. I even saw a pup leap from its mom and ârun,â although it was more of a quick waddle over to a human and embrace them, making happy beeping sounds the entire time. The human held them so gently as if they were afraid to break. Then, he immediately started to cry uncontrollably. However, with all of the joy and happiness down there that I so loved, I was a bit disturbed by the crying. What in the world could they have gone through that would make something like a simple hug so unique? No, it wasn't the hug itself. I thought about my time on board the ARK ship and what I had seen. I have seen many humans embracing each other and hugs, giving each other kisses or their equivalent of it, I've also seen them embracing and hugging Zeyzell. I was also aware of a lot of inter-species couples and marriages on board the ARK ship. I thought about it very hard, deciphering everything that I had learned on board the ARK ship, in addition to the information that was sent to us very early on, and-... then it clicked. âThey aren't crying because they're being shown loveâŠâ âWhat?â My niece asked. I turned fully to her. âThey are not crying because they're being shown love. They are crying because another species is showing them love. They're being shown that someone cares about them other than their own species and the Zeyzell.â I turned back to the landing pad and the ship was leaving as all the aliens had found the people they were looking for and were being carried back to cars, walking alongside them, or simply sitting and talking and sharing a meal. As I stood there, it was as if I could feel the emotions coming from the humans: the joy, the happiness, and the sheer love of being accepted. I couldn't explain it, but I felt as though we shared a deeper connection with humans than we initially thought. âDo you feel it?â my niece asked. I looked at her and nodded. âI can feel the joy, happiness, and love they are feeling right now from all the way over here.â I nodded my head. âI think whoever or whatever they were running from was another alien species, based on the information I gathered from the ark ship, the reactions and emotions of the humans down there, and the information I sent to us early on. I had theories before that it was another species they were running from; I know many other people thought that, too, But I think this almost confirms it: they are definitely running from someone. Or were, but now they feel safe here.â I told her as I gestured to all the people below us. My niece nodded. âWhen I get home, I'm going to give Dominic a big hug.â We remained silent for a time. Just watching the beautiful scene before us as the snow fell slowly and lightly, the trees swayed in the breeze, ever so slightly bending. The wind made a howling noise as it whipped through the tight streets and architecture of our building. I breathed in and let it out, letting my breath turn to steam. I reached out and let the snow fall onto my hand. I brought my hand close, but the snowflake had already melted. My gaze returned to the Humans and Zeyzell, enjoying the snow alongside my people. I turned to my niece. âOur planet may be trying to kill us in over a thousand different ways, but itâs beautiful, huh?â My niece sighed and looked at me. âYeah, and itâs going to get a lot better now that we have friends, or lovers for some, from beyond the veil.â I nodded and looked back at the snow that now danced in my vision as the Humans and Zeyzell departed with my people. I sighed, and we both returned inside to see Sunclick waiting for us. âYou can go nerd out with the humans now,â I told him. ââThank you, sir!â He shot out of the room and down the hall. I smiled and turned back to my niece. âDo you want to grab something to eat? The snow is great right now.â I asked âSure. However, before that, we should warn the aliens about the cult, huh?â âOh, definitely,â I told her. I smiled and we walked over to the communication system connecting us to the Aliens. 2024.05.19 15:25 TheGangstaGandalf Discussion of the Diamond Handbook (Part 1)
Hey everyone, this will be my first attempt at a serious post on this sub. Iâm not exactly practiced in articulating my thoughts (Iâm more of a fiction writer) so please
bear bull with any mistakes and please correct me if Iâm wrong. The last thing I want to do is spread misinformation, Iâm not an expert (or a financial advisor) on any of this. I'm here to learn, not to teach.
This post will be the first in a series of me reading through the entire Diamond Handbook (2nd) and just commentating on points I find interesting or discussion worthy. I will be asking questions as well as giving my own personal thoughts based on my understanding of the events that have transpired. I became an ape right after the sneeze, and followed a lot of the discussions back then, but have been zen for a while so I haven't fully kept up with a lot of the new developments.
I haven't actually sat down and read DD in a long time, so I decided to give myself a refresher and actually look at the Diamond Handbook (2nd) for the first time. I had read a lot of these posts as they had come out, so I had never felt the need to look at the full PDF before. For the apes that havenât read it either, I recommend giving it a read. You can find the full DD library in the pinned post of this sub, and the Diamond Handbook is the first one there.
As I have been reading it, Iâve quickly realized that some of the stuff is a little outdated. That canât really be helped since so much DD has been done between then and now, but this brings me to the two reasons for this post. The Diamond Handbook is likely the first piece of DD a new ape will be recommended; I want to spark discussion to clear up some things that are misguided or outdated in this handbook. The second reason is more of a personal challenge. Whenever someone denies the legitimacy of the DD, an ape usually responds by saying something like âWell, read the DD and prove it wrongâ. The average MOASS denier wonât do this though, in my experience they just think itâs ridiculous on a conceptual level, and wonât take the time to actually look through all the DD available and construct a proper debate. I canât really blame them for this though, spending so much time on something you have no interest in doesnât sound like a fun time.
But I have a lot of interest in this, and I am an aspiring author who writes 400K word fanfictions for fun. Iâve got the time and the writing willpower. I am very big into trying to understand how a reader will interpret a piece of my writing, so Iâll be looking through that lens and will be writing this with the assumption that you have already read the Diamond Handbook (2nd). Please take the time to respond/correct what I say here, I want to learn.
With all that out of the way, letâs get started.
The Mother of All Short Squeezes (MOASS) Thesis, Published on May 26, 2021, by u(slash)HCMF_MACEFACE
Before we even get into the meat of this section I already see a bit of an issue. A lot of the language implies that MOASS is imminent, take this section for example:
*âIf you don't believe me, just look at the chart of GME which our DD (Due Diligence/research/analysis) has been forecasting for a while now. The below pattern has only preceded massive spikes in price, but this time, those on the other side of the trade are going to have a much harder time suppressing the price like they did in January and March. Thanks to the activity on 5/25, we have entered the end-game. The MOASS is beginning.â*
I think most new apes will look at this, then look at the date of posting (three years ago), and think this is delusional thinking. They will say that MOASS did not âbeginâ because it hasnât happened yet. This would be pretty short sighted though, GME has always been a Deep Value investment, long positions are called long for a reason. âBuy and HODLâ is such a repeated mantra because that is the investment strategy most apes employ. Like most investments, it takes a long time to realize gains. Your retirement account will be growing for 40+ years before you cash that thing out, GME is my retirement plan so I donât expect it to be much different.
Just because the sneeze happened in a week doesnât mean MOASS will, in theory it should be a very long event as both the shorts and longs have a test of wills to see who caves first. However, the sneeze was the âbeginningâ because it was exposed a lot of the fuckery that is going on in the market right now, I think that is the message that should be taken from this section.
*âThese terms are key to understanding the theory and speculated value of a GME investment. Hyperlinks to Investopedia, "the world's leading source of financial content on the web", have been included for most market terms and concepts and it is recommended to check them out if they are not clear. We will be breaking down some of the more complex terms and concepts within the post and framing them within the context of GME.â*
After the introduction, this post does a great job of explaining all the concepts of the stock market that are relevant to the MOASS thesis. However, I do wish it mentioned some other stock terms for the sake of new investors. Since none of the DD is supposed to be financial advice, I canât really blame them for these omissions, but at the beginning the OP does say they wanted the post to be good for newer investors, so I think some more pointing in the right direction shouldâve been provided. I do appreciate the link to Investopedia, but this DD is already a novel, and the average reader might forget about that link by the time they finish it. So an additional link shouldâve been provided at the end.
The two big concepts I see missing are Options and Wash Sales/Stop-Losses.
Options are interesting because they create a different type of buying/selling pressure compared to just buying/selling stocks regularly. There are concepts like gamma ramps and stuff that can be relevant when discussing catalysts for price movement. However, options are pretty scary for most investors, Iâve only ever bought one, and forgot about it so it auto-exercised for me (lol), so itâs not a concept I would call essential. I just think itâs better to be educated than not.
The much more egregious omission is that of Wash Sales and Stop-Losses. Wash Sales are extremely dangerous to new investors who still make decisions based on emotions and are not used to the volatility that comes with GME.
If you are unfamiliar, a Wash Sale is when a person sells a stock at a loss, then buys the stock again within a short period of time. As an example, letâs say you bought a stock at $50, then the stock goes down to $40.00 and you no longer feel comfortable with your investment. You sell the stock at a loss. You lost $10.00 on this transaction, but itâs not all bad. When you go to do your taxes, you can report this $10.00 loss to the IRS. This is good because if you make a $10.00 profit off another trade, you now donât have to take taxes out of that profit, since the IRS will see this as you breaking even in the grand scheme of your portfolio. You didnât actually make any money, so they arenât going to tax you for it.
A Wash Sale is triggered when you buy back the stock you sold in a short period of time, this can even apply if you buy a stock in the same sector. So if you buy a stock at $50.00, sell it at $40.00 then buy it again. That $10.00 loss you took can no longer be reported to the IRS as an actual loss. So when you make $10.00 on some other trade, the IRS wonât see you as breaking even, they will tax you on that $10.00.
For a stock as volatile as GME this can be very dangerous, I know people who brought in the peak, then as the price went back down they triggered a Stop-Loss (auto-sale you can program to trigger when a price falls), only to then buy back in when the stock dropped even lower, creating a wash sale that fucked their taxes.
We say âBuy and HODLâ a lot, but I think the âwhyâ of it has been lost in the meme. I personally buy and HODL because averaging down is a lot better for me than accidently triggering a Wash Sale. I fucking hate the IRS and donât want any of that smoke.
*âSPOILER: GME and \[Popcorn\] have tons of FTDs reported.â*
I just kinda donât like the mention of the Popcorn stock here, it has never been a deep value investment. If you are unfamiliar with the Deep Value investment strategy, please take a look at the old Roaring Kitty livestreams. In summary, Deep Value investing is defined by looking for stocks that are extremely undervalued and unpopular due to no fault of the company. These external factors that are making the stock undervalued can be anything, shorting, COVID, stuff like that. But what makes it a Deep Value investment is always strong management within the company. If the company is not mismanaged in any way, then it is very unlikely to go bankrupt, and will have opportunities to make a comeback. GME has Ryan Cohen leading, a proven successful businessman that has already taken precautions to ensure GameStop never goes bankrupt. Popcorn just doesnât have that. It is very short-squeezable, but itâs not deep fucking value.
*âShort sellers must eventually close, or cover, their short position.â*
Ok, but why âmustâ they? This is another point I think has been lost in the memes. There are two problems with just saying âshorts must closeâ without providing context. The first is the simple fact that there isnât a due date. Unlike a common car loan or mortgage, a short position doesnât operate on a time table. They can wait forever to close, unless they get margin called.
This next part Iâm a little shaky on, Iâm probably getting some things wrong here:
Ok, well how are they going to get margin called? The problem I see is that these Short Hedge Funds (SHF) are making a lot of money by selling naked shorts. Itâs really hard to get margin called when they are literally printing money, and since they donât have to report these their books just look to be filled with an infinite amount of cash.
So, there are a couple solutions to this:
1, Government regulation. If the SEC puts a stop to naked shorting, these SHF canât print money anymore. Eventually the interest from their positions will eat them alive, and they will get margin called. Unfortunately, MOASS has the potential to destroy the economy like in 2008, so they probably arenât too keen on just doing this without creating some kind of safety net. So I canât really count on them to help, because the government has a vested interest in keeping MOASS from happening. Itâs just not something I believe will be the catalyst. Although they might just do it on purpose given the right reason, like pinning the economic collapse on a scapegoat, or by GameStop forcing their hand by exposing the fraud somehow. Iâve seen a lot of apes hoping for one of these reasons to come to pass, but for me, I donât see enough motivation from the participating parties.
2, A price run-up. If the price of the stock can unbalance the books of the SHF enough then they could also get margin called. Iâm not counting on this either, since the price is manipulated by the process of naked shorting. Sure, they are digging a bigger grave when they suppress the price like this, but it can also help smaller SHFs with exiting their positions with OTC stuff. Over-The-Counter trades are trades made off the lit exchanges, historically it was intended to kind of simulate a transaction between two individuals, like buying a video game from a buddy off the books, no taxes, no regulation. Unfortunately, this is abused by institutions and canât even be used by individuals, making dark pools of trades full of fraud and undermines the free market. Smaller SHFs that are more at risk of getting Margin Called due to their lack of collateral, can make OTC trades with the big naked-shorting market makers to âcloseâ their positions using fake shares. Of course, this only passes the buck so to speak, but itâs a viable strategy for them since the big SHFs that take on these âbucksâ are less likely to get margin called. A lot of historic short squeezes happen because a small SHF gets margin called, then drives the price up and causes a bigger SHF to get called, and so on until theyâre all in the grave. This is why I donât really give a shit if the price goes up to $80 in a week, itâs not enough, the buck has been passed. (To be clear, I donât have proof that this is the reason for the uptick in OTC transactions, itâs just a theory. If a smarter ape than I can get on this that would be great.) But, even if a price run-up itself doesnât cause MOASS, it may give motivation for the true trigger:
3, Interest Rates. Here is the big one that I look at, that I believe will be the true cause of MOASS. Now please, correct me if Iâm wrong again, I am just an ape who dropped out of college. So, from what I understand a Short institution has to pay a certain amount of interest to the people they borrow the stocks from. This is the cost of borrowing and is how these Lenders make money. For a long time, the interest rate was at like 1%, this means that selling one naked short could cover the cost of the interest 100 times over. However, letâs say that the interest rate becomes 110%, sounds crazy, but this would mean that borrowing the share would cost more than the share. This would destroy the balances of the SHFs and ensure they get margin called. Why would this ever happen though? Because these lenders want to make money. These lenders are the real winners of MOASS, and they arenât talked about enough in my opinion. Lenders canât sell the shares theyâve lent out, their income is in the interest rates, there has to be a balance here between it being more profitable to lend the shares or to sell them. If Lenders start to think that lending their shares arenât making them more money than the alternative, they will raise interest rates to make these profits until SHFs canât pay them, then the SHFs have to return the shares, causing MOASS with the massive buyback, then lenders can just sell the shares on the way down. Lenders have a monetary business interest in causing MOASS, so they are the most likely cause of it in my opinion.
*âThis is the GME MOASS thesis. GME is a stock that stands to hit an unprecedented price point due to the fact that manipulators of the market have failed to bankrupt GameStop thanks in huge part to the Legendary Keith Gill AKA* u(slash)DeepFuckingValue*, Ryan Cohen, and all of the GME investors who took part in this saga. It may not be today, this week, or even this month, but one day soon, these toxic participants have no choice but to buy the stock to close out their short positions.â*
I donât think this is necessarily inaccurate, but I think itâs misguided, and the language here is a bit to emotive for my taste. I think the reason the company didnât go bankrupt is because of the strategic share offering made by Ryan Cohen to build up more cash than the companyâs valuation (at the time). All the other stuff was just dressing, DFV and retail did not make RC do this, this move by RC is what ensured the company literally canât go bankrupt, until then (and at the time this was posted) it was still a risk in my opinion. So this huge thanks feels kinda like a pre-cum celebration, and I've never really liked putting Keith on a pedestal, he's just an individual investor, just like the rest of us.
FAQ, Published April 12, 2021, by u(slash)BYE_TRIANGLE
*âWhy does Holding do anything?â* *âThey need your shares to cover their short positions! They got greedy. Thinking GameStop would fail, the short sellers started Naked Shorting the stock. Long story short they created synthetic stocks with their special privileges as Market Makers. But they canât cover a short with a synthetic share. So because of the Naked Shorting, the Short Sellers, multiple large greedy money managers, and Hedge Funds need a total number of shares greater than the number available to purchase. THEY NEED EVERY SHARE, EVEN YOURS CONAN!â* *âaRe YoU GuYs MaNipuLatIng THe MaRKeT?!â*
Holding does something else that I think is really important. It proves that retail is not responsible for the manipulation of the price. You see it in the mainstream media every time the price fluctuates, they say that retail and Roaring Kitty is driving the price up for the memes, and that the âmeme stock craze is deadâ whenever the price falls, claiming that retail is selling. However, it quickly becomes clear to anyone with the willingness to research that retail holds. Holding doesnât move the price at all, so they literally canât blame this sub for the fuckery that happens.
Now, on the flip side, I know people on the old sub to buy and sell with these fluctuations, they did it during the sneeze and Iâve seen comments claiming to do it last week. I think this is why Roaring Kitty really had to speak to congress about this, because a legitimate-seeming argument could be made that retail was buying and selling at high volumes. The loss and gain porn on the old sub could be presented as evidence. Here though, apes hold, we glaze purple doughnuts.
So when MOASS does happen, the massive price increase will be only due to buying pressure from SHFs, so they are the only ones that can take the blame for what happens next.
*âNo one knows how high the squeeze could take the stock price. The best rational reasoning says that these numbers \[500k per share\] are possible through the laws of supply and demand. Furthermore, it is likely that the Short Percentage is a lot higher than reported, with many suggesting that the short-sellers, cumulatively, need more than 100% of the float to cover.â*
A lot of naysayers will claim people are insane for thinking that phone number prices are possible. They will cite that it would make the companyâs valuation higher than the amount of money in the world, which is true. However, with the nature of fraudulent naked shorts being fake, the price is fake too, and the valuation of the company doesnât necessarily mean that the whole float will be sold at those prices. Yes, it shouldnât be possible, by all accounts it wouldnât make sense, but it is possible due to the naked shorting. Also, institutions that own shares likely wonât HODL out for the phone number prices, they will sell when they think itâs safe, and when they wonât get in trouble with the SEC for destroying the economy. The infinity pool (the shares that will be sold at these prices) will be a small fraction of the total amount even among retail investors. So the argument that I see against the possibility of this doesnât hold a lot of weight.
Keep in mind that even though âbuying pressureâ moves the price up, someone has to be willing to sell in order for someone to buy. So as the price creeps up from $100 to $1000 to $100000 to $8675309 someone will be selling on the way up to get there.
*âSynthetic long positions could be used to disguise their short positions as well, the mechanisms behind this practice utilize the options markets and could explain some of the crazy options activity that we have seen in GameStop the last few months.â*
So uhm⊠I donât understand âSynthetic Longsâ at all. Could an ape with more wrinkles elaborate on this? From what I can extrapolate, this may refer to an institution purchasing a naked shorted share from someone else?
*âWhile at the same time they employed the use of social engineering to slowly depress the positive sentiment for the stock on Reddit and elsewhere.â* *âYou may have been called a Shill for one of a number of reasons. This community is very inclusive and open to everyone, but because of the blatant attacks this forum has suffered a lot of people are understandably paranoid. (Myself included). Please, unless you really are a shill, donât take it personally.â*
I want to address this, because there is a lot of misconception about SuperStonk. A lot of people will claim that this sub is just an echo chamber cult that canât handle anyone questioning the narrative. This may seem true on the surface, but I think the reality is just that weâve become hyper sensitive to the social engineering the old sub fell victim to, and I remember this sub being attacked with that as well. So whenever we see a post that has extremely emotive language, we become skeptical and down vote it. Emotions have no place in investing, that is a common rule touted in even the oldest investing books, so posts that try to incite an emotional response are shot down. Apes arenât about to be manipulated again. That being said there are emotive posts that still get upvoted, ones with positive hype-filled narratives. Since these get upvoted and the negative ones donât that sometimes gives the impression of an echo chamber. This is because the facts do support the MOASS thesis, so a hype title and opening paragraph is just more agreeable with the facts-based narrative. Some people are just scrolling on their phone and donât have time to read the whole post.
However, if you go into the comments of these posts, there are apes investigating the profile history to determine if posters are bots, regardless of the pushed narrative. If you look past the upvote counter, apes are very skeptical of any post that isnât based in fact or harmless memes. The comments rule the post, and I have to say Iâve very proud of this sub for staying vigilant in the wake of Reddit restricting moderation tools.
*âRyan Cohen clearly believes in Gamestop, to the point of announcing that he will be taking equity as compensation. In fact, as of writing this all of the new Gamestop board members are going to be taking equity as compensation. This is seen as an incredibly bullish sign of the company's future success.â*
This is one of the principles of Deep Value investing, I wish this was elaborated on more of why this is bullish. This means that the board, and more importantly Ryan Cohen, is tying their individual self-worth to the company. Due to this tie, they will essentially âgo down with the shipâ if the company goes down. This means that the board and Ryan actually have an interest in the company doing well, instead of having an interest in making money off the company. You may think this sounds like the same thing, but itâs not. If RC cared more about money than the company, then he could destroy the company to make money (this is whatâs happening to popcorn), but by tying his worth to the shares, the only way for him to become richer is for the company to flourish.
I donât really like the language being used here, stuff like âclearly believesâ âseen as incredibly bullishâ are all pretty emotive and doesnât actually explain why these are positive growth signs for the company, they are just saying it is âbullishâ, the average new investor isnât even going to know what that really means. Even though GME is extremely manipulated, causing Technical Analysis to become increasingly difficult to depend on, the investment is still rooted in fundamentals of deep value.
*âBelow is a shortlist of some of the potential catalysts people are speculating about:*
-A Stock Split, or some similar move from Gamestop that recalls shares -Gamma Squeeze -Gamestopâs Q1 Earnings Call -Some speculate Gary Gensler (Newly appointed head of the SEC), may make some move that sets things in motion -DTCC rule changes taking effect -Appointment of a new CEOâ Yeah⊠this feels bad man. Iâve talked about this already, but we can rapid fire down this list.
The stock split didnât work out, since those in charge of distributing the splits did it fraudulently. Gamma Squeeze is the kind of thing that could trigger a smaller hedge fund to get margin called and cause a domino effect, but Iâve shared my theory of the OTC action. Earnings are nice, but public sentiment has always been more tied to the media manipulation than actual facts. Fucking Gary.
On the subject of bringing in new talent, I do feel like a big move will happen soon. Weâve already seen a lot of job offerings from the Corporate side of GameStop so this could be the next phase of the plan. I really think that RC has spent these last few years taking precautions to make sure the company canât go bankrupt, the last thing he wants is to turn out like Toys-R-Us. A lot of downsizing happened, so now he can start thinking about upsizing again.
Iâm not necessarily saying that these things canât trigger the squeeze, but I am saying that depending on something to start it is just inviting disappointment. I think the âno datesâ rule has been sorely forgotten lately with all the hype and speculation around Roaring Kittyâs tweets and stuff. I am a zen ape, it happens when it happens.
*âFirst of all, it is incredibly important to note your potential biases when determining if someone is just a shill trying to spread FUD. Not all FUD is invalid, someone may bring up a solid point against an otherwise great DD, and that could scare you. Remember that just because you do not like what someone is saying, doesnât make it invalid. It is important users here work with constructive criticism to refine their theories.â*
Damn, wasnât I just talking about this? This critique isnât going to just be wagging fingers, this is really good stuff that still applies today, and from what Iâve seen apes are doing a great job of distinguishing between FUD and legitimate criticism. I also want to take a second to thank the mod team, especially after their tools were restricted, theyâve been a great help.
*ââŠbut since then retail investors have been buying on every single dip in the price⊠That's more than two whole months of buying-the-dip. Now, I will not speculate on numbers here, if you want to know more you will have to read the DDs on that.â*
This is pretty outdated now. Apes have been buying for three years now, and with the advent of Direct Registering we have a much better idea of how much apes hold. I can say with confidence now that retail owns a floats worth of shares. Since there is so much naked shorting, a lot of institutions probably own their own floats too.
I glaze those purple doughnuts, yum.
Citadel Has No Clothes, Published March 14, 2021, by u(slash)ATOBITT
Ohhhh, this one is special to me, I read it when it first came out, first time I was there on release night. Letâs see how it hodls up.
*âTL;DR - Citadel Securities has been fined 58 times for violating FINRA, REGSHO & SEC regulations. Several instances are documented as 'willful' naked shorting. In Dec 2020 they reported an increase in their short position of 127.57% YOY, and I'm calling bullsh\*t on their shenanigans.â*
58 times. I donât actually know how much that number has gone up, but Iâm sure it has. I am reminded of an old saying, that if the punishment for a crime is a fine, then it only a crime for the poor. The crime being done to GME is class warfare, itâs nothing less.
*â$295,347,948,000 of that is split into options (calls & puts), while $78,979,887,238 (20.52%) is allocated to actual, physical, shares (or so they say). The rest is convertible debt securities.â*
This is why Iâm skeptical that itâs even possible for Citadel to get margin called by a normal price run-up. Letâs do some math here. GMEâs float is at 232 million-ish shares, letâs say they shorted 300% of that, just to be conservative (lmao), so thatâs 696 million. To take what the first post said, Margins donât get called unless an entitiesâ collateral becomes less than 80% of what theyâve borrowed. If they use their entire $384,926,232,238 portfolio as collateral, then GME would have to soar to a price of⊠divide by 4, multiply by 5⊠$691.32 per share. That may sound relatively reasonable, but I donât think a normal catalyst would be enough for that. I really think interest rates are the key, think about it, if they have to pay like 30% interest on all of those shares, their portfolio will be reduced by that much (kinda) and we can find a much more reasonable midpoint. Now brace yourselves, Iâm about to spend an unreasonable amount of effort on something that is probably wrong because I donât know shit about fuck about margins or getting called (I have a cash account and I lack rizz).
In order to calculate that we gotta do one of those double equation variable bullshit things we all hated in school, I forgot what they were called but I remember how to do them.
So, we have a few variables:
C = Citadelâs Portfolio = $384,926,232,238
S = Shorted Shares = 696,000,000
I = Intrest = 0.30
X = Price Per Share
Y = Citadelâs new portfolio amount after paying interest
So, X and Y are undetermined, but we have two equations to work with
C â I(X*S) = Y
This one calculates how much money is going to be in citadels new portfolio after paying interest, we calculate the interest by multiplying the cost per share, by the amount of shorted shares, and multiplying that by the interest rate, then subtracting it from their total portfolio.
Y * 1.25 = X * S
This one calculates the total amount those shorted shares have to be in order for Citadel to get margin called, by multiplying their new portfolio by 5/4 and calculating the total cost of the shares.
X * S has a direct value; we can plug the left side of the second equation into the first to get
C â I(Y*1.25) = Y
Now we just gotta isolate Y on one side of the equation.
C = Y + 0.3(Y*1.25)
C = 1.3Y * 0.375
C= 0.4875Y
C * 0.4875 = Y
Y = $187,651,538,216.03
Now we gotta find X, we can just plug in the other stuff.
(Y* 1.25)/ 696,000,000 = X
X = $337.02 per share for shitadel to get margin called on 30% interest.
Holy shit, now thatâs what I call reasonable. See how much interest can completely fuck a portfolio? They lost almost half of their portfolio value to a 30% interest to this. This is why the whole market will bleed red on the run up to MOASS, they will have to sell half of their portfolio just to pay the interest.
Citadel is probably not a good example of this, since they print the naked shorts themselves... so they would be paying interest to... themselves... when they borrow them? Citadel is so fucked up, I don't have enough wrinkles for this.
But hey, I think the concept of what I said is fine. High interest rates can reduce collateral and cause margin calls. Hey, just out of curiosity, how much is the borrowing interest rate looking now?
16.5%
SHF are fucked.
Anyway, Iâm writing this on a Wordpad document so Iâm not sure if Iâve come up on the character limit, but I think Iâm getting close so Iâll end this part here. Please let me know what Iâve got wrong or any insights you want to share, Iâll be sure to talk about any interesting comments when I do a part 2!
TLDR: I am reviewing the Diamond Handbook (2nd) and seeing what has changed in the three years since itâs been compiled. I have a bias in thinking that high borrowing interest rates are what will cause MOASS, and that is shown here. This is not meant to be an impartial analysis, just my thoughts. Not financial advice.

Žè¶ŁïŒćŻä»„ć»æçćŸźćçäžæçïŒ Considering the length of the original article, I will only post the English version here. If you are interested, you can go to my Weibo to see the Chinese version. - Remember the names of these 33 warriors. https://preview.redd.it/05zsptapld1d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=5c9193aa7b5e49cee95cd2727c30aa4a5b4f9b79 After three hard-fought quarters against the Nuggets, the Grizzlies eventually lost. Much like most of the seasonâs games, they displayed convincing moments. Whenever the opponent attempted to push the game into a decisive depth, TJ would call a timely timeout to catch a breath and then immediately launch a counterattack. If you were an unfamiliar fan tuning in during the final moments of many games, youâd be puzzled: who are these guys? How are they tying the score against Joker, JT, Bron, and AD? But most of the time, effort couldnât beat talent. No worries, I was just as surprised as you. But after watching the Grizzlies' final game of the season in the early morning, I took a deep breath as the fleeting memories of the past six months flashed before my eyes like a slideshow, and I understood them. This is the Grizzlies' second-lowest win rate season in the past 15 years. They had 33 players wear the jersey, missed 578 games due to injury, and used 51 different starting lineups (all NBA records). Even one of the leagueâs loudest home courts, FedEx Forum, often had many empty seats for most of the season. "For just $2, you can see Timmy Allen, Jack White, and Zavier Simpson play live!" This isnât a joke. On April 9, facing the Spurs at home, all three played at least 25 minutes. They limited Rookie of the Year Wemby to 18 points on 19 shots but were still dominated on the boards by Sandro Mamukelashvili and lost the game. Despite several key players coming and going, last season the Grizzlies boasted the league's best home record (35-6), but this season they only won nine games at home. After back-to-back home losses to the Blazers (who finished last in the West with 21 wins but beat the Grizzlies three times) on March 2, GG Jackson admitted postgame: "You see your fans leaving with like 8 minutes left in the game, that really sticks us as players. They want to come see us play. And that's kind of like them slapping us in our faces like, 'We don't want to see you play.' We've got to change that." I understand these people. This has been a season full of hardship for players, coaches, management, the team, fans, and the city. From before the season, we were devastated by unprecedented injuries. Anyone still paying attention to this team is a true Grizzlies fan. Special credit to the players and coaching staffâby January, the season had already lost its meaning. The basketball gods didnât favor them despite Jaâs season-ending injury but instead brought more injuries. Yet, even so, they fought on and never gave up. I donât recall any game being "surrendered"âno matter how few players were left, they gave it their all on the floor. https://preview.redd.it/godn2cysld1d1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=88a5a76c9627381d1ec46d31f5875dfa10b2957c My favorite artist Taylor Swift released her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department," today, and Iâm willing to call the 2024 Grizzlies "The Tortured Players Department"âinjured, pained, struggling, liberated, relieved, and then filled with hope. I donât know how fans will remember and evaluate this most painful season in NBA history ten years from nowâbut while the memories are still fresh, Iâll do it now. Two Black Swans If we set the start of a season as the day after playoff elimination, then as early as last May, shadows had already enveloped the team. Like me, Morant wasnât good at live streaming, and for the second time, he brandished a gun in a car. When I got the news, I was packing for a trip to Guangzhou the next day and nearly tore a basketball sock in half. Opinions on the Smart trade were generally positive, and Raymon and I were full of praise for GG and Slaw Dawgâs Summer League performances on the Chinese Grizzlies podcast. Missing Morant for 25 games meant we couldnât secure home-court advantage like the past two years, but securing a play-in spot seemed reasonable. In an open Western Conference, all it took was a lucky playoff matchup, and a full-strength team could still achieve something. Then Stevo was out for the season. Unlike Morant's short-term impact on the record, this was a heavy blow to all remaining hope. I dejectedly said: "No matter what, they canât play like last year or even the year before, and they canât find another Adams through trade or signing. The Grizzliesâ new season hasnât even started, but it might already be over." At this point, it was just three days before the season opener. The appearance of two black swans cast a shadow over the season before it even began. Finding Joy in Suffering The Grizzlies' first 25 games were like me trying to stand on a balance ball in the gym for the first timeâstanding seemed not too difficult, but whenever I tried to squat, my legs started shaking uncontrollably, and most of the time, I fell off. After five straight losses, the Grizzlies quickly signed the overlooked Biyombo and then played some decent games, but the injury wave followed one after another. At the most extreme, the Grizzlies had to use their paper-thin fourth point guardâJacob Gilyard, who should have shined in the G Leagueâa player about my height and weight because Ja, Smart, and Rose were all injured. https://preview.redd.it/zmk62bq3md1d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ee1bbd1eda0ba13c4715fcf15391b5fdc67de32 To be fair, the Grizzlies showed resilience at that time. Facing the "BIG4 Clippers," the Grizzlies won their second game of the season on the road. Gilyard (6+5+3+3) held his own against Harden (11+4+3); against a full-strength Celtics, Aldama put up 28+12+6 and almost pulled off an upset; Bane dropped 49 points to lead a comeback win over the Pistons, scoring in the fourth quarter as much as Cunningham, Bojan, Duren, and Ivey combined. The Grizzlies could keep up with most paper-strong teams and even come back from 15-20 points down but usually lost in the final moments. Bane took on an overwhelming offensive load, being the only consistent scorer, three-point shooter, and transition player, but he mostly held up; JJJ was often forced to play the five, which he disliked, making both offense and defense awkward and inefficient. As for the untested young players, they rarely held the ball securely in the fourth quarter. With a 6-19 record, second-to-last in the West, trailing the play-in zone by more than five games; Baneâs performance was the teamâs lone standout, determining both the floor and ceiling; aside from JJJ, Aldama, and Roddy, almost no one was healthy. The Grizzliesâ net rating still ranked higher than their record, their defensive efficiency remained in the top ten, but they couldnât score. A Brief Spring December 20âjust an ordinary game day, but Grizzlies fans had been waiting almost four months. The Pelicans, with their formidable build, werenât an ideal opponent after a long layoff, but Morant loved such games. He probed in the first two quarters and then started showcasing his signature gliding layups and near-basket floaters in the third. He almost blew past every defender, gesturing "too small" to Alvarado, laying it up over defensive player Herbert Jones. On the final play, he drove from the backcourt, bypassed the screen, and floated a shot over Jones, Murphy, and Danielsâoff the backboard, into the basket, buzzer beater. This was Morantâs first career buzzer-beater. Interestingly, after the shot, even the Grizzlies players on the court paused for a second before realizing they had won, with Bane even freezing at the three-point line. I understand Bane. In the first 25 games, the Grizzlies didnât have such clutch play; this was a moment where a superstar wielded his superpower. https://preview.redd.it/ivoxez05md1d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=88313b44ea6967be3578b9d99f8eadcbd450a207 Morant posted the highest points for a player returning after missing more than 25 games in history, but more thrilling for fans was that the Grizzlies truly became competitive. They quickly won four in a row, beating the hot Haliburton, Trae, and Wemby, and winning twice against the Pelicans on the road. Bane and JJJ were in great form, and Smartâs fourth-quarter lockdown on Ingram was impressive. With the return of injured players, we began to calculate and discuss the Grizzlies' playoff prospects. Morant caught the flu and missed one game, played poorly in the next twoânothing to say as I was also down with the fluârecovered, and then convincingly defeated Bron and ADâs Lakers on the road. Smart scored 29 points (including a ton of threes), Morantâs scattered scoring and assists, JJJ turned into Curry, and Bane turned the arena into a library with a series of off-the-dribble threes in the fourth quarter. After the game, Nemo and JJJ sat on the scorerâs table for an ESPN interview: "Youâre making a playoff push, whatâs your plan?" https://preview.redd.it/mddc8fv8md1d1.png?width=2182&format=png&auto=webp&s=865924dab3881c277783c53a5f40acf1a53504b3 Jaren smiled lightly, and Nemo said, "Keep playing like this, 48 minutes of relentless effort every night, execute our signature defense, move the ball, and everyone being on point. Tonight, we had many guys scoring 20+, like Z. Keep this up, and weâll be dangerous." We didnât see Nemo play again; a few days later, he was diagnosed with a torn labrum and was out for the season; two games later, Smart dislocated his finger and was out for the season; another two games, Bane went down, and the season was over. The Dawn Just two weeks after hope reignited, it was extinguished. What was left to see this season? I believe every Grizzlies fan asked themselves this question. At this point, you have to appreciate the basketball gods; when they close one door, they really do open another. ââBack on December 1, with no one available, TJ put Vince Williams into the rotation. As last yearâs 47th pick, his rookie year saw no meaningful time, mainly playing in the G League. In the limited effective game sample, we considered him a wing âshooterâ who couldnât handle the ball or defend wellâhe hadnât even shot well in Summer League. In his first effective NBA game, Vince scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding nine rebounds. He stayed on in the fourth quarter, impressively defending Irving. The Grizzlies secured their fifth win of the season. Ten days later, facing the Mavericks again, this time he had to guard Luka, averaging 34 points. No one expected him to complete the task, nor should he, but he did greatâthe Grizzlies almost erased a 17-point deficit, forcing Luka to 4-of-12 shooting in the second half. They even exchanged trash talk during the game, but after the game, Luka said: "I think heâs a great defender." When Luka Doncic calls you a "great" defender, you must be a "very, very, very great" defender. https://preview.redd.it/6jn2grnbmd1d1.png?width=1919&format=png&auto=webp&s=566c59c5549e34a61c450230a88500215b38de49 Vince started the next game. Although he had some ups and downs briefly after Morantâs return, he quickly adjusted. He scored 19+9 against the Sunsâ big three, limiting Durant; next time facing Luka, he won again (Luka 9-of-21); he scored 24+7 against the Warriors, winning, and in the win over the Heat, he outperformed Butler (25 points, JB 15 points). Just as we were marveling at his offensive and defensive performances, his pre-All-Star break streak showed us even more potential. Starting from February 8 against the Bulls, he averaged 14+7+8+2 steals over five consecutive games, including an 18+12+7 performance against Lillard/Giannisâ Bucks. He limited Lillard to 7-of-21 shooting and helped disrupt Lillardâs three-point attempt in the final moments. What, Vince can also moonlight as a point guard? The Grizzlies converted his contract in January to a three-year, $7.9 million deal with an option. Considering his versatility and level of play, this contract is so low itâs almost insulting. But if you think thatâs exaggerated, wait, thereâs more. https://preview.redd.it/wjpaxgqcmd1d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=0352543f4be22abad934a7d796e6968d91e40156 ââWhen GG Jackson was drafted, few Grizzlies fans who knew about him were optimistic. Their reasons were solid: GG wasnât even 19 when drafted, too young; he skipped a grade to play a dismal season at South Carolina, shooting 38%, looking like a chucker; he had publicly criticized teammates, posing a locker room cancer risk. These might be true, but I only learned about him after he was draftedâwatching him tearfully talk to ZK on a call, watching his college highlight reels showcasing his versatile offensive skills and confidence, his enviable physique, these on-court aspects captivated me. I followed his performance throughout Summer League, and his smooth catch-and-shoot and diligent defensive footwork made me even more optimistic about his future. At the time, I was probably the only one publicly praising him. I voiced my support in every platform I hadâpodcasts, Weibo, even the comment section of the pay raise public account: Check out GG! He has a chance to enter the rotation! For the first half of the season, he barely played, putting up numbers in the G League. On January 13, 2024, with Nemo, Bane, and Smart all out, TJ had no choice but to put GG into the rotation, giving him 27 minutes. In his first effective NBA game, GG scored 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting; the next game against the Warriors, 23 points. He became the second-youngest in history to score 20+ in consecutive games, only behind BronâTNTâs crew warmly greeted him on national television: Shaq: "I have nothing to say; I just want to congratulate you: now people know who you are." https://preview.redd.it/a22gjp4emd1d1.png?width=2248&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a59bc946a230ddb2108716ff9253ecc05c6592f GG looked both excited and nervous, reminding me of my freshman year. This is the genuine reaction of a kid this age when theyâve done something remarkable and are publicly praised for it. This wasnât the last time. With Vince injured, GG became my sole motivation to watch the last third of the season. In 42 effective games, he averaged 16.4 points and 4.5 rebounds, hitting 36% of his shots, averaging 2.4 three-pointers per game. He scored 20+ in 12 games, 30+ in three, and posted 44+12 against a full-strength Nuggets in the final game. If GG had entered the rotation earlier, could he have made the All-Rookie First Team? Quite possibly, as heâs a natural scorer who excels in big moments and national broadcasts (how rare is this for the youngest player in the league?). His other contributions in games were limited, but considering the Grizzliesâ environment, their league-worst offense, the pressure he faced, and the difficulty of his scoring might have been greatly underestimated. GG dropped 31 points against a full-strength Lakers, almost the only player able to initiate scoring, making a top-five play dunk over Rui Hachimura. How many All-Rookie votes will he get? https://preview.redd.it/7obss9rfmd1d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=dbe5d862cf5b5ca1ace44b70eabd533933563b5d Two experts stood with me: ESPNâs Bobby Marks placed GG in his All-Rookie Second Team a week ago, and The Ringerâs Bill Simmons said he would vote GG for Rookie of the Year in a podcast two days ago. Regardless, GG has earned respect. And for Grizzlies fans, even better news is that the team converted his contract to a four-year, $8.5 million deal with a fourth-year team option in February. As a Reddit Grizzlies fan put it, "This is Pippen contract level theft." Vince and GG, two second-round picks, played convincingly in ways no one expected. The Grizzlies have locked them in on affordable long-term contracts for at least three years, and they will undoubtedly be key rotation or even starting players for the Grizzlies next seasonâwhat did the Grizzlies trade to acquire them? Zero. Praying to the Basketball Gods Though Grizzlies fans' moods might be 1,000 times better than three months ago, this remains a completely wasted season. For a young team that matched up against the champions two years ago, this isnât good. The Grizzlies still have plenty of draft picks, but their salary cap is tight. Their core 3 is still young and talented, but two other young core teamsâat least the Timberwolves and Thunderâare ready. The Grizzlies are nowhere near their position two years ago. But this "wasted" season allowed them to eliminate many wrong options and secure several key players. Even if the offseason only brings an average starting center, their roster strength is very, very solid (I donât think any current team could consistently beat a healthy 2024 Grizzlies). They maintained high defensive levels, forced turnovers, and blocks with many non-NBA players, and they possess better three-point shooting than the past two years. They can replicate the 2022 season's performance, and thatâs a conservative estimate. https://preview.redd.it/xxiop63hmd1d1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=951528875c8ab351023e1f588ad3837f4c0d6661 But can they stay healthy? In 2022, Dillon played only 32 games and was out of sorts in the playoffs, with Morant also injured midway; in 2023, key players were in and out, losing inside reserves to the Lakers in a seven-game upset; this year, the entire team suffered the worst injury wave in NBA history. Like the Clippers in recent years, injuries are the easiest topic to discuss without being wrong because no one can control them, and they always happen. So, I can only pray to the basketball gods: it canât get worse than this. I desperately want to see a fully healthy Morant-Bane-Jaren Grizzlies team play a playoff series, even if they are easily beaten by a better team. I donât want to look back years later and be left with a pile of "what ifs." submitted by qiumo_talk to memphisgrizzlies [link] [comments] |
2024.05.19 14:36 PanFriedSalmon675 Asking ex out on a "second first date"
Here is a brief timeline of the breaup. Me (M23) and my ex(F23) had been dating for 3 years. She broke up with me in February, a few days before the Valentines( which was also supposed to be our 3rd anniversary, we had started dating a few month before that but we counted valentines as the anniversary)
The breakup was a bit surprising, because we had planned a trip to Germany for April and bought the tickets about 2 weeks prior to breakup, but no that I think about it it was not that surprising.
In any case a month before the breakup both of us had very rough schedule, hardly seeing each other and that pretty much effected pur communication. That was the main reason of breaking up.
Though it hurt a lot the breakup was civil, we did not talk much, she just told me she wanted to break up and that was pretty much it. Talked for a few minutes and I left, speechless in a way, not realizing what was going on.
A few days later I drunk texted her(i know, awful idea, but was not intentional). I was not sober, but not that drunk either, it was a day after the breakup and felt pretty emotional. There were a lot of thing that I wanted to say just coming in my head and I decided I'd just write those things and delete it, but accidentally sent it to her. We had a bit of a conversation over text and that was it for the day.
After a month of breakup she texted me and asked me to meet up and we did, we talked a bit and basically she told me that she though she left me on a "waiting state" and she wanted to spend some time alone to understand what she wanted. I was okay with that, and by that time I had decided to move on, though I still lived her. Anyways, we talked and talked and she asked me if it was okay to hug me, from that things built up, we spent hourse just walking, talking, and being physical and well, we spent the night together. The morning was full of tears and talks and that was it.
We had a few random encounters after that and every time I met her, even if it was for a second, I felt like I was falling for her iver and over again( and that felt wonderful every single time)
Fast forward to a week ago, I met her and asked her for the flaws/problems we had and I had just to make sure I took a look at those things. And we talked a bit of whys and all. The communication breakdown was a key factor(again).
Now here I am, feeling weird. I'm not sad, I'm not feeling lost. I'm just feeling weird. And I have this strange though running through my had for the last couple of days. I want to ask her out on a "second first date", not to get back to the relationship we had(it failed so no point in that), but to see if there are still things that made us fall for each other when we first started. Not sure if I will do that, but that rhough has been living in my head rent free. Even if I do, not sure what kind of response I will get, and to be honest, it does not matter if I get yes, no or just completely get ignored, I feel like any sort of response would make me happy.
So people of reddit, what do you think?

2024.05.19 13:13 ailawllc Religious Freedom in U.S. Supreme Court Precedents: Navigating Sincere Beliefs
| https://preview.redd.it/66lf5rui9d1d1.png?width=2688&format=png&auto=webp&s=eda7ca309b4b0b90787774e992ebfd1d37c38ba1 đ Religious freedom is a cornerstone of American democracy, enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution! đșđž The U.S. Supreme Court has played a pivotal role in interpreting the scope and limitations of this fundamental right. One critical aspect of these interpretations is the Court's approach to determining the sincerity of religious beliefs, a task that involves distinguishing genuine faith from frivolous or fraudulent claims. Let's dive into this fascinating journey! đ The Constitutional Foundation đïž The First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This clause, known as the Free Exercise Clause, protects individuals' rights to practice their religion as they see fit, without undue interference from the government. However, this protection is not absolute. Over the years, the Supreme Court has developed various tests and criteria to balance religious freedom with other societal interests. The Sincerity Test đŻ A central challenge for the Court has been to differentiate between sincerely held religious beliefs and those that are either frivolous or fraudulent. The sincerity test emerged as a tool to address this challenge. While the Court avoids delving into the truth or validity of religious doctrines, it does assess the sincerity with which individuals hold their beliefs. đ Key Cases and Developments đ United States v. Ballard (1944). In this landmark case, the Supreme Court held that courts should not evaluate the truth or falsity of religious beliefs but can examine the sincerity with which these beliefs are held. The case involved leaders of the "I AM" movement, who were charged with fraud. The Court concluded that while the government could not question the truth of their beliefs, it could question whether they genuinely held these beliefs. đ§ Thomas v. Review Board (1981). This case involved a Jehovah's Witness who quit his job because his religious beliefs forbade participation in the production of armaments. The Supreme Court ruled in his favor, emphasizing that the individual's sincerity was key, rather than whether his beliefs aligned with mainstream interpretations of the faith. đš Employment Division v. Smith (1990). This case marked a significant shift. The Court ruled that neutral laws of general applicability do not violate the Free Exercise Clause, even if they incidentally burden religious practices. While the decision de-emphasized the role of the sincerity test, it highlighted the complexity of balancing religious freedom with other societal interests. âïž Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. (2014). In a more recent case, the Court ruled that closely held corporations could refuse to provide certain contraceptives to employees if it violated the owners' sincerely held religious beliefs. This decision underscored the ongoing relevance of assessing sincerity in religious freedom cases. đą Differentiating Genuine Beliefs from Frivolous Claims đ€ To determine the sincerity of a religious belief, the Court considers various factors: - Consistency of Conduct: Whether the individual's behavior aligns with their professed beliefs over time. âł
- History of Belief: The duration and consistency with which the belief has been held. đ
- External Validation: Although not determinative, recognition of the belief by a religious community can be a factor. đ«
- Personal Testimony: The individual's own account of their beliefs and how these beliefs guide their actions. đŁïž
Challenges and Controversies ⥠The sincerity test, while essential, is not without challenges. Critics argue that it can lead to subjective judgments and potential biases. Additionally, the line between assessing sincerity and evaluating the content of beliefs can sometimes blur, risking encroachment on religious freedom. đȘïž Conclusion đ The Supreme Court's approach to religious freedom, particularly through the sincerity test, reflects a delicate balancing act. By focusing on the sincerity of beliefs rather than their truth, the Court aims to protect individual freedom while preventing abuse of religious exemptions. As society evolves and new challenges arise, this balance will continue to be tested, requiring ongoing vigilance to ensure that religious freedom remains a vital and protected right in America. đœ Religious freedom is a fundamental right, but its application in law requires careful navigation of sincerity and authenticity. The Supreme Court's precedents illustrate the complexity and importance of this task, ensuring that genuine religious beliefs are protected while guarding against exploitation of this crucial freedom. đ submitted by ailawllc to u/ailawllc [link] [comments] |
2024.05.19 12:36 Gostinker Anyone ever set up Spotify Auth?
When I click Agree or Cancel on the Spotify OAuth Page (my app, Marketify, would like to connect to Spotify) nothing happens. The website does not redirect to my app.
class SpotifyService { late final SpotifyApi spotify; late String responseUri; StreamSubscription? linksStream; Future initialize() async { const clientId = '***'; final clientSecret = dotenv.env['CLIENT_SECRET']; if (clientSecret == null) { throw Exception('CLIENT_SECRET is null'); } final credentials = SpotifyApiCredentials(clientId, clientSecret); final grant = SpotifyApi.authorizationCodeGrant(credentials); const redirectUri = 'marketify://spotify-login-callback'; final scopes = [ AuthorizationScope.user.readPrivate, AuthorizationScope.library.read , AuthorizationScope.playlist.modifyPrivate, AuthorizationScope.listen.readTop, ]; final authUri = grant.getAuthorizationUrl( Uri.parse(redirectUri), scopes: scopes, ); final initialLink = await getInitialLink(); logger.d('Initial link: $initialLink'); final responseUriCompleter = Completer(); linksStream = linkStream.listen((String? link) { logger.d('Received link: $link'); if (link != null && link.startsWith(redirectUri)) { responseUriCompleter.complete(link); } }); if (await canLaunchUrl(authUri)) { await launchUrl(authUri); } responseUri = await responseUriCompleter.future; spotify = SpotifyApi.fromAuthCodeGrant(grant, responseUri); await linksStream?.cancel(); } }
I am trying to run the app on iOS currently. I tried adding the following lines to my info.plist file
CFBundleURLTypes CFBundleTypeRole Editor CFBundleURLName com.example.marketify CFBundleURLSchemes marketify
I have confirmed that the callback uri on the Spotify developer board is the same as the one detailed in the app ('marketify://spotify-login-callback'). It is worth noting that the logger does not seem to receive any link at all.
I am using the Spotify dart package to access the Spotify API elsewhere in the app, and the uni_links package to (attempt to ) read the callback url.
Thanks for any advice.

2024.05.19 10:59 exsapphi New Zealand needs to be looking towards a green future for our own economic viability (as told through the history of glass)
The thing about this climate crisis that no one talks about is that economically, this is not new. This is the same sort of shift as any other massive economic shift we've seen in history, whether resulting from technology or environment or society or any combination of the three. It will be
rapid; as rapid as the economic expansion of Europe when it discovered just how profitable colonisation and slavery were. But it's not really anything unseen in an economic sense.
How markets work is this: everything is just supply and demand. If there is a known demand for something, in a roundabout way, the market will ensure that demand is supplied. It might melt a few glaciers in the meantime, or be delayed by a war or two, but it's a force akin to that of nature, or evolution, or cause and effect. The markets will balance. Eventually.
A detour through history
The Chinese never developed eye-glasses. They didn't have the need for glass, because their drink of choice was tea, so the materials they worked with were mostly ceramics. In Europe, the cultural drink of refinement was wine. This didn't need to be kept hot, or be brewed and poured perfectly and all that stuff I'm told is important with tea. But it had requirements and qualities of its own, and one of them is that it looks pretty on display -- and that's why Europe developed and refined glass so much faster than China.
Glass is an incredibly old invention. It's fragile, much more fragile than pottery, so we rarely find it in archeological digs. But it's been invented in and/or expanded to many many cultures throughout history since at least 2000 BC in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Syria, followed by the Greeks, the Romans, the Canaan, and the Persians. Basically anyone with an empire, including the Chinese, was making glass. Unfortunately they'd only just discovered
transparent glass by the late Bronze Age, when
the Bronze Age collapsed due to a series of environmental, migratory and urban changes.
(A good reminder that historically, periods of mass technological advancement are followed by civilisation collapses and dark ages. Until the present, of course. But that's been true of
every present.)
A lot of glass-making technology was lost, but some important things were saved and some new stuff was rediscovered, and most of this discovering happened in Europe because they had, as I mentioned,
wine. And rich people wanted to show off their pretty, colourful wine, and that only worked if your glass was
transparent. And Italy had access to pure silica quartz, plus soda ash via their trade with the Levant, and so some clever spark there developed the first pair of eyeglasses.
And
that's how you have Mecca, Italy and Venice (the latter of whom had been producing the famous Venetian glass, but moved all their glassmakers to Italy because they'd built all their buildings out of wood) all mass producing eye-glasses with consistent standards for Europe and the Middle East by the 14th century.
This might seem like a small development, but gradual loss of sight used to be a
disability. Like, it seriously disabled people from doing many things. Far-sightedness meant artisans couldn't create and scholars couldn't read -- I can't even imagine how many people died falling off a horse just because they were short-sighted. For civilisations to have access to devices that got them
decades of productivity out of some of the most skilled people in their societies was
massive. And that's part of how you get European dominance over Asia, because the Chinese economic powerhouses didn't care about glass as much as Europe did. It's not enough to just invent something. To develop a technology, a society needs both the resources to play with and the
need to play with it. That's why we get so much advancement from war.
You can thank Germany for your microwave. How on earth is this relevant to the market or our climate crisis?
Glass will be invented, and then it will be forgotten, and then it will be invented again. But only some economies flourished from it.
We have no control over anything but us. And that's terrifying. The climate change that crippled the Bronze Age wasn't even
their fault and they still got thrown back to the Dark Ages.
We are going to see our own change in the market. We are going to
live it. And one thing is true, whether National or ACT or BP like it or not: fossil fuels cannot continue to be relied upon as a commodity. Not long-term. It's a dying industry, slowly but surely, and it'll die whether we manage to wean ourselves off petrol or whether we use it all up first.
To a lesser extent, this is true of other non-renewables too. We are not at critical mass yet with our lithium-ion batteries, but we're now at the stage where people in the third world all seem to have cellphones. This is not a sustainable practice for a limited metal we have to mine from the earth. When something is running out, we don't have to stop using that material in the things we build; if we start to use it all up, it will soon get too expensive to build with, and
that will stop us.
And that's why we have to stop using it: because if you as a country or industry pour all your energy and resources into developing technology based off that now-scarce resource, you will be left with no usable technology when that resource runs out.
What are National doing?
This is a political sub, so I won't mince words: something's gone wrong with National. Something's
always been wrong with ACT, but National's change is recent. Power has been centralised in the board and
the candidate selection process is no longer in the hands of the rank and file after Steven Joyce's shakeup, instead dominated by corporate interests. And they have
dominated. We have a cabinet of lobbyists, and not just on National's side of the board; Luxon has pulled together the whole industry.
When we attribute "intentions" to things like forces and political parties, it can be easy to forget there's not a concerted, rational mind at play behind their decisions, and their actions are influenced by all of the people and factors and forces that make them up. When I say, "National has been bought by lobbyists", I don't mean every single person in the party is a corporate shill. I just mean that there is enough corporate, business, and big-money influence in the party that they are no longer being governed primarily by their voter base or even their party members.
Nothing makes this more obvious than National's direction in politics. When your LABOUR and GREEN parties are the ones proposing to fix your climate crisis via free-market ingenuity that we can patent, sell on and capitalise off, something has gone wrong. There
is money to be made in climate change, and National are off chasing oil down the bottom of a well.
If we don't wean ourselves off fossil fuels, we will find ourselves paying for it the increased price for them when we don't have the green technology to utilise at the end of supply. If we don't put our minds to green tech and science, we won't
have the environment-saving and cleaning and reinforcing products and knowledge to sell on when the demand for them peaks through the ceiling -- instead we will be buying from other countries at big prices, paying to ship
their experts here to tell us how to manage our estuaries or dump sites or skink habitats or whatever it is we need to fix next. New Zealand got
lucky with our green energy; we were already using renewables by sheer coincidence when the climate crisis struck, and it made our transition to this new world very smooth. We will not be that lucky again.
Look at what we produce as a country. We held on far too long to our wool market out of some idea that it was "what we were supposed to be doing", and it nearly wrecked the country. Because it took us so long to change, and because we'd converted all our land into pasture, the most effective market for us to turn to became beef. Now
that market is thriving, and we are willfully ignoring the real economic costs that will come with being a beef export country, and that cost is methane. There is not a future where countries will be allowed to emit methane for free. And there are no methane-light cows to switch to. Not until we develop them.
And this is what people talk about when they talk about environmental solutions still to be developed -- as if other people are going to develop them. That is incorrect. WE are the Cow Country. WE are the ones that should be foremost of the cow-fart field. If we do, we will be the ones benefitting by selling our bio-engineered cows and our science that made it happen. But if we don't, if we trail behind, we let other countries get out in front, and then our industry relies on them, and their industry outgrows us.
And these are all individual product or problem examples, but we are dragging our feet across the entire green industry. Why?
Big Oil does not care if your tech is Green
I say big oil, but there are other anti-environment and pro-corporate interests at play here. And again, there's not some big puppetmaster moving his pawn pieces, but there is influence, and companies don't want the world to go green, because when they do, they stop getting money for all the things they're getting money from right now. They don't care about the environment because they don't have the capacity to care; they are not a they. They are a force, a conglomeration, a hivemind of workers breaking their back for the company, until they clock off and become their own person again.
Their only interest is keeping ahold of their incredibly profitable market, and that market needs machines that use oil, and consumers willing to buy those machines, and people who aren't thinking about switching to a non-oil version of their tractor that doesn't exist yet (because no one has found the need to invent it. Or had the right resources.)
Oil cares about oil. Mining cares about mining. Tobacco cares about tobacco. Beef cares about beef. And we get value out of these industries as a country, as a society, so when they say"This thing is bad for me", we do have to listen to that. Otherwise we won't get our beef, or our oil. But "This thing is bad for ME" isn't the same as "This thing is bad for YOU". And companies are relying on consumers to not know the difference.
Back to National
Tobacco lobbyists have bought out Parliament, and are literally drafting our tobacco laws. And they are just
one interest around the table. But they have had a huge effect. Imagine what's happening to the interests of your politicians when you have your lobbyists working together. Imagine where the interests of lobbyists for mining and oil might meet. Now imagine fisheries has a guy in there too.
Our oceans should be feeling very nervous right now.
It's the small influences we can't see that make these big decisions later on. The people who select our future MPs. The people who decide, hey, I'm going to try this new glass technique. But it takes an awful lot of decisions to make a glassblowing society.
A lot of what we do, we don't do consciously, like developing eye-glasses. But the benefit of our open democracies, of our information-based societies, of our unprecedented understanding of economies and markets and science and climate, should mean that when we choose to do something consciously,
we can do it.
When we don't, something has gone wrong.
A Green Future
To get to the sort of green economy the non-business parties are picturing, you need someone who has the time and acumen to get us there.
That SHOULD be National. There is so much involved in politics; our politicians are running so much. And they're spending most of their time undoing the last guy's policies. Labour's policies sound like the Greens. National doesn't have any except "win". ACT are doing Charter Schools again. And the policies being made are being made in the interests of business people.
Our politicians don't have visions like Hollyoake of a New Zealand forging our own future, or Muldoon's determination to make things better for the average kiwi, or (heaven help me), Roger Douglass's respect for politics. None of the old guard are happy with how politics is shaping up, and certainly not the right, or who eventually became the right, in Douglass's case -- this is what he had to say on the subject: âJohn Key lived by the polls and itâs very dangerous. If you want to help people, you have to tell them the truth. The problem is that the politicians of today, they want to help themselves. So they poll in order to know what to say and itâs disgusting.â
I think in that one sentence, Douglass sums up everything wrong with the modern National Party. Once upon a time, National were in it to help people. They're not anymore.
Where to now?
It's all just markets.
If National won't change, they'll kill their market and they'll be replaced by a new party, just like the Liberal Party and Reform Party and Social Credit Party before them. National and Labour have always been around, but not always as
these parties, or in these forms. The political spectrum will move to meet demand -- even when curtailed by corporate interests.
Or National will change, take control of their candidates and board, and live to fight for another century or so.
Either way, the economy will continue, and so will climate change. We will still need to develop new technologies using our available resources, and direct our technology-developing towards fixing environmental solutions. I hope New Zealand will benefit from this, and not just witness it. But if it's not National making the push, another political party will. We can see that happening right now, with the other parties suggesting their own green business ideas that National should be sweeping up votes for. There
is voter and consumer demand for green businesses, and National are distracting us instead with shiny baubles because the corporations influencing them don't want you to see them.
Another thing Douglass was frustratingly right about: all our parties are doing at the moment is undoing each other's policies. It's hard to see New Zealand making any forwards progress at all if that's our direction.

2024.05.19 10:16 ChristLover10 The Last Child (Fanfic)
(Part 2 out now)
I woke up with a cough of blood and pain. I felt something metal with my hands as I looked down. A long stint of rebar poked out of my ribcage and through my chest plate, covered in a mix of my blood and the bile of a bug.
I reached down and grabbed my Senator, feeling its trusty weight in my hands. I haphazardly tried to place the barrel against the portion of rebar sticking out of my back. This had better work, I thought. I pulled the trigger once and with a loud Crack I felt the vibration from the shot in my stomach. I tried to choke down vomit and pulled the trigger twice more Crack, Crack. With the third shot the rebar gave way and I rolled to my side and collapsed on the ground. Agony shot through my body as I hit the dirt.
I realized then, Hmmph, they left me. During Extraction one of the other divers called in a 500kg as we were about to board Pelican 1. She had thrown it over one of those damned chargers in an effort to kill one last bug but... it started charging us. I was the last one in line and just as I was about to board... i was thrown 200 feet away from extraction site. I don't blame them. I'd have left me too. We had successfully evacuated a number of scientists and other military personnel, but we'd lost the planet. No hard feelings I guess.
I tried to pull my mind away from those thoughts and just focused on one. Survive. I pulled myself to my knees and looked at the rebar again. Cant park there bud, I thought tryna cheer myself up. I had dropped my senator when I fell and ended up with two free hands. I reached down and with the assistance of my servo-assited armor prepared to wrench the rebar from my chest. Alright, count of three, I thought. One my heartrate quickened. Two I adjusted my grip ever so slightly. Three I ripped the metal rod out and felt a hot stinging pain shoot through my body. I quickly grabbed a stim and applied it.
I winced as the stim numbed my broken ribs and began rapidly working to heal them and my open chest wound. After a couple seconds, I could stand.
I took quick stock of my inventory. My Senator with 23 rounds left, two ration packs, a canteen of water, 1 stim, a knife, and a bag of oatmeal. Oatmeal? Seriously? I'd rather have ammo but... beggars can't be choosers.
I looked around me. Snow and beaten down rubble surrounded me. This was some kind of research station, I think. Didn't bother grabbing the name. Cold as hell and nothing really around to get my bearings. Great. I thought. Im gonna die inside a freezer. I started looking through the rubble for anything useful. I found a corpse of one of the scientists that hadn't made it to evac. I grabbed the ID card off his jacket. Figured It'd get me inside a building if there were any left standing. I crawled out of the rubble and onto the snowy tundra.
The sun had set and with it most of the light I would've been able to utilize. I scanned the horizon for a blinking light. Blinking like meant beacon. Beacon meant possible radio, maybe some ammo. I clocked one to the southwest and began walking that direction senator drawn.
I spotted a few distant bug patrols illuminated by moonlight but they had no interest in me. I kept my head down and kept moving towards the light. Details started to take shape and I could see this was a research station. Perfect I thought.
I reached the door and used the key card. There was a Beep and the red light flashed green. The door cracked open before jamming. Oh no you dont, I thought and with one hand yanked the door open. I closed it behind me with the same hand to keep the wildlife disinterested.
Inside was dark and damp. I had lost the seal integrity on my suit so there was barely any oxygen regulation. Didn't need it on this planet but still, it's a bitch to fix. I turned my flashlight on and started scanning the room for a light switch. I found one but wouldn't ya know it... dead. At least the beacon had power. I walked over to the radio and pulled off my helmet. I wedged the flashlight in my neck and leaned my head to the side. I started flipping switches and turning dials to see if there was a response. Nothing. Id have to find the master terminal. I grabbed the flashlight and donned my helmet again. I began scanning the room again before I heard it. A little shuffle behind me. I turned quickly and drew my senator raising it at the source of the sound.
It was a small child. At least... thats what it appeared to be. At first glance I could see bindings on its legs and arms. A hospital gown with little ducklings on it and a teddy bear tucked under its arm. I lowered my senator as it spoke.
"Dr. Mehon told me to wait here. He said hed be right back."
Dr. Mehon was probably dead I thought. I knelt down and put my hand on the child's shoulder. "Whats your name kid?"
"3". I felt a rage build up. I swallowed it quickly.
"Well 3, what uh... why.. why do you have bin.." I stopped myself. Whatever those scientists were doing here...
3 looked up at me and I noticed it. A cat like set of eyes. Other little details started to click as well. Four fingers on each hand, slightly pointed ears, a discoloration of skin and a rigid scale-like spine on the shoulder.
"The radio doesnt work mister." 3 seemed to have understood their situation. "Dr Mehon destroyed it before he left."
I realized then that it was unlikely either of us would make it off this planet alive.
EDIT: Part 2 out now! (Part 2's a lil shorter) I Didnt think itd get this many upvotes and comments. Ill keep writing then. Feel free to suggest names for 3!

2024.05.19 10:04 Crafty_Sample1682 Maplestory (GMS and MSEA) Monster Life Discharge Macro using G HUB Lua script
Hi, I know this may be against game policy and may bring criticism. But Monster Life is over soon, so I thought those in hurry of making level 40 farm in MSEA and GMS would NEED this.
No meso cubes but meso caps, why play nice... This is a video of what fully scripted auto care & discharge should look like :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZj9XyKVERM&t=1s . However, I'm not a software engineer or any coding related expert; so, my script i'm sharing is only discharge part (you would either have to find a different or make this better if you want it to be fully automatic like the video)
Credits to êČœì ë¶ìë°ìŹ for sharing this script
https://www.inven.co.kboard/maple/2302/15022 loooong ago. I edited my scrlpt based on this. Having said this, I don't take any troubleshooting questions; I'm no expert (if I did it, you 200% can fix it)
So before using this, a few requirements and basics:
- You need logitech mouse to connect to G HUB
- You need about 12,000,000 Waru in your Monster Life for fully leveling to 40 (More if you don't have Pharaoh Yeti <- btw always lock this to not mistakenly discharge it)
The basics
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyg93s_XPdw . watch this video to set up Lua features. I didn't scan and make new profile for Maplestory because when it runs it turns to desktop profile and glitched. So, I recommend using Desktop profile as it is.
- The OutCount = n (*at 26 now) is how many you want to discharge in one run. Change "n" as per your monsters out
- You may notice in the scrlpt , there is CarePet function. I used it to hit additional enter after RemovePet function (the discharge), so manually "Auto Take Care" first before using this (buying C-grade box and opening them is also manual)
- I put the Monster Life in full screen and adjusted the absolute mouse position to click the check box that appear in the center when discharge was clicked. Monster Life is usually 1024 * 768 but if yours is somehow not, then you may need to either adjust screen size or the scrlpt itself "MoveMouseTo(31065, 36865)" <--- it means (x,y) or (left to right, low to high)
- Hover your mouse cursor to the first monster to be discharge (one right to Pharaoh Yeti) then press 5 (4:08 of the lua intro video)to run it as shown in the photo below
In the lua script code dialog copy the script below and load it

2024.05.19 10:03 TheTephrite Motherboard Causing Key Chattering / Audio Cut Out?
Hey there, been having this problem for weeks now and its getting worse and worse and I cannot figure out what's causing it! Any sort of help would be INSANELY appreciated
I bought a Ducky One 3 Mini keyboard about 6 months ago and the last couple months its been chattering. I initially saw that it was similar keys although as of recent its spread a bit to random ones. Some days its nonexistent and I don't see any key chattering and other days it seems to happen every other word. I've updated its drivers, cleaned the keyboard thoroughly and still had issues with it but I'm not certain its actually the keyboard that's the issue.
I've been live streaming Elden Ring and have noticed random chops and stutters in that too when I have a perfectly good PC with a 4070, a 5800x3D and 32 GB of RAM. I noticed that a lot of the time this happens, Device Manager refreshes so I thought it might be a faulty USB port? But I've tested them all out and it seems unlikely that all of them are broken
(full PC:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/usetephrite/saved/bpZYXL )
I've also noticed that Chrome tends to glitch sometimes, merging tabs into one visually until I refresh. I tried with and without hardware acceleration and still the same. I suspected this was all a GPU issue so a few months ago I upgraded to the 4070 but it seems the problem is still occurring. I did the same with the RAM but again, still happening. I have also updated my BIOS, Mother board and GPU drivers using DDU and clean installed Windows 11.
Finally yesterday I had a really weird encounter. I currently use a Focusrite Solo interface for my audio. When unplugging my keyboard yesterday, my audio cut out. Upon plugging it back in, my audio returned which is extremely strange considering both my keyboard and Focusrite are plugged directly into the motherboard so there's no reason for them to be effecting each other. Shortly after this, I left 4 live streams on just lurking and a few hours later I came back to a frozen PC that wouldn't shut off by holding the power button but had to turn it off directly from the PSU.
Any sort of help would be amazing. I'm convinced its either the motherboard or my hard drive but I have no idea how to tell!!

- Before using Batana Oil, it is important to be aware of potential side effects such as allergic reactions and greasiness. It can be purchased online or at local stores.
What is Batana Oil?
Batana Oil, also known as Miskito Oil, is a natural oil derived from the nuts of the American palm tree, Elaeis Oleifera, native to Central America, particularly Honduras. It has been traditionally used by the Miskito people for its therapeutic properties in promoting hair and skin health.
For centuries, the Miskito people have treasured Batana Oil for its deeply rooted cultural significance. This ancestral knowledge and tradition have been passed down through generations, highlighting the deep connection between the people and this natural remedy. The process of extracting the oil is a meticulous craft, involving traditional methods that honor the palm tree's natural gifts. The rich nutrients present in Batana Oil make it a versatile elixir for skin rejuvenation and hair nourishment. Its moisturizing properties are renowned for promoting healthy hair growth and providing a radiant complexion.
How is Batana Oil Made?
Batana Oil is extracted through a cold pressing technique from the nuts of the American palm tree, Elaeis Oleifera, to preserve its nutrients and natural properties. This traditional method of oil extraction ensures the oil retains its therapeutic benefits.
The process of making Batana Oil through cold pressing involves carefully selecting ripe Elaeis Oleifera nuts, which are then cracked open to reveal the kernels inside. These kernels are sun-dried before being cold pressed to extract the precious oil, ensuring that the nutrients and therapeutic properties are well-preserved. This method, commonly practiced in Central America, where the American palm tree is prevalent, is known for producing high-quality oil rich in
nutrients essential for nourishing and rejuvenating the skin and hair.
What are the Benefits of Batana Oil?
Batana Oil offers numerous benefits for hair and scalp health, including promoting hair growth, nourishing the scalp with essential fatty acids like omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9, providing antioxidants for hair health, and adding
shine to hair affected by environmental influences.
Originating from the lush
Mediterranean region, Batana Oil has been used for centuries as a holistic solution for maintaining healthy and vibrant hair. Its natural composition not only accelerates hair growth but also aids in deeply penetrating the scalp to nourish and rejuvenate hair follicles.
- The antioxidants present in Batana Oil protect the hair from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors, ensuring long-lasting hair health.
- Regular use of this oil forms a protective shield around the hair strands, shielding them from harmful UV rays and pollutants.
Promotes Hair Growth
Batana Oil stimulates
hair growth by nourishing the follicles and roots with essential nutrients, promoting stronger and healthier hair growth.
One of the key factors that make Batana Oil effective for hair growth is its ability to deeply penetrate the hair follicles and strengthen the roots. This process not only encourages faster hair growth but also helps prevent hair breakage and split ends. By delivering essential nutrients such as Vitamin E, Omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants directly to the hair follicles, Batana Oil revitalizes the scalp, creating an optimal environment for hair growth to thrive.
Moisturizes and Nourishes Hair
Batana Oil serves as an excellent moisturizer that deeply nourishes the hair, providing essential hydration and combating frizziness. It acts as a natural conditioning oil for smoother and healthier hair.
The unique composition of Batana Oil allows it to penetrate deeply into the hair shaft, delivering nutrients that strengthen and repair damaged strands. This botanical oil is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which help to restore the hair's natural shine and vitality.
Regular use of Batana Oil can improve the overall health of your hair, making it more manageable and less prone to breakage. Whether you have dry, brittle hair or just need a boost of moisture, this oil is a versatile solution for all your hair care needs.
Reduces Dandruff and Scalp Irritation
Batana Oil aids in reducing dandruff and scalp irritation by restoring the scalp's microbial balance, offering therapeutic benefits for scalp health.
When the scalp's natural microbial balance is disrupted, issues like dandruff and irritation can arise. Batana Oil's unique properties help in rebalancing these microorganisms, thus calming the scalp and reducing discomfort. Its therapeutic uses extend beyond mere symptom relief, as the oil's nourishing components penetrate deep into the skin, enriching it with essential nutrients for long-lasting health. By incorporating Batana Oil into your hair care routine, you are not just tackling the visible signs of scalp issues but also nurturing and maintaining a harmonious environment on your scalp.
Strengthens and Repairs Damaged Hair
Batana Oil strengthens and repairs damaged hair by addressing issues like split ends caused by environmental pollution, restoring hair fibres to their natural health and vitality.
The rich nutrients and essential fatty acids present in Batana Oil deeply penetrate the hair shaft, nourishing and hydrating from within. The oil's antioxidant properties combat the harmful effects of free radicals present in the environment, which often lead to hair damage. Regular use of Batana Oil can help in revitalizing and rejuvenating hair, making it stronger, healthier, and more resilient to external aggressors.
What are the Side Effects of Batana Oil?
While Batana Oil offers numerous benefits, some individuals may experience side effects such as allergic reactions, particularly those with hereditary hair loss concerns. Proper skin care is essential when using this oil.
Allergic reactions to Batana Oil can manifest as skin redness, itching, or swelling. It is important to conduct a patch test before applying the oil liberally to avoid adverse skin reactions.
Individuals with hereditary hair loss should consult their dermatologist before incorporating Batana Oil into their hair care routine.
Side effects can vary depending on individual skin sensitivity, so monitoring any changes is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Taking precautions in
skin care routines, such as using sunscreen and gentle cleansers, can help mitigate potential side effects of using Batana Oil.
Allergic Reactions
Some users may experience allergic reactions to Batana Oil due to its potent therapeutic properties. It is essential to conduct a patch test before applying it to the scalp or skin.
Allergic reactions to Batana Oil can manifest as redness, itching, swelling, or even hives on the skin. These reactions are typically more common in individuals with sensitive skin or existing allergies. The patch test helps in identifying any adverse responses before widespread application, ensuring safety.
While Batana Oil is known for its nourishing and hydrating properties, some individuals may experience side effects such as scalp irritation or mild rashes. It is recommended to discontinue use immediately if any discomfort occurs and seek medical advice.
Despite the potential for allergic reactions, Batana Oil also offers numerous therapeutic benefits, including promoting hair growth, reducing inflammation, and improving overall scalp health.
Greasiness and Build-up
Excessive use of Batana Oil may lead to greasiness and build-up on the scalp, potentially causing irritation and other hair problems. It is advisable to use the oil in moderation.
While Batana Oil holds numerous benefits for hair, including nourishment and hydration, excessive application can have adverse effects. The build-up of oil on the scalp can clog pores, leading to scalp irritation and even hair loss over time. This greasiness not only makes the hair appear unwashed but also attracts dirt and pollutants, further exacerbating the situation.
To prevent these issues, it is crucial to strike a balance in the usage of Batana Oil, ensuring that it benefits the hair without causing any harm.
How to Use Batana Oil?
Batana Oil can be used in various ways for optimal results. It can be applied as a nourishing hair mask, a leave-in treatment for added hydration, or as a pre-shampoo treatment to protect the hair's natural nutrients.
When using Batana Oil as a hair mask, it provides deep conditioning benefits, revitalizing dry and damaged hair, leaving it soft and manageable. As a leave-in treatment, Batana Oil helps to lock in moisture, tame frizz, and promote healthy shine. Alternatively, incorporating Batana Oil into your hair care routine as a pre-shampoo treatment creates a protective barrier against the harsh effects of shampooing, ensuring that the hair retains its essential nutrients.
As a Hair Mask
Using Batana Oil as a hair mask provides deep nourishment to the hair, enriching it with essential nutrients and offering therapeutic benefits for overall hair care.
Applying Batana Oil as a hair mask involves a simple yet effective process. Begin by sectioning your hair and warming up a small amount of Batana Oil in your hands. Then, gently massage the oil into your scalp and hair, ensuring even distribution from roots to ends.
After application, leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes to allow it to penetrate the hair shaft and nourish deeply. For enhanced effectiveness, you can wrap your hair in a warm towel or use a shower cap to create heat and enhance absorption.
Rinsing off the Batana Oil hair mask with a gentle shampoo and conditioner will leave your hair feeling soft, silky, and deeply moisturized.
As a Leave-in Treatment
Using Batana Oil as a leave-in treatment enhances hair health by providing continuous nourishment, promoting shine, and protecting hair from environmental influences.
One of the key benefits of incorporating Batana Oil into your hair care routine is its ability to deeply nourish the hair follicles, resulting in stronger and healthier locks over time. The continuous nourishment provided by this natural oil helps repair damage, reduce breakage, and improve overall hair quality. Batana Oil's rich composition of essential fatty acids and antioxidants contributes to boosting hair shine, leaving your tresses looking smooth, lustrous, and radiant.
As a Pre-shampoo Treatment
Utilizing Batana Oil as a pre-shampoo treatment helps combat dryness, strengthen hair fibres, and serve as a conditioning oil for smoother and healthier hair texture.
One of the key benefits of incorporating Batana Oil into your hair care routine is its remarkable ability to deeply moisturize and nourish the scalp, effectively addressing issues of dryness and itchiness. The oil's rich composition provides essential nutrients that penetrate the hair shaft, strengthening it from within and reducing breakage. 2024.05.19 08:19 Glitch109 [Crossover Worldbuilding Idea] What if the MCU, DCEU, MonsterVerse, Resident Evil (Capcom Games), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix's The Dragon Prince, Vivziepop's Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, and Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set in the same universe?
Inspired by
MichaeltheSpikester's idea of a shared world, decided to add my variation of it. But with extra media that I think would fit well with this shared world.
-Several dimensions that were connected to Earth-199999 are not only the Astral, Dark, Mirror, K'un-Lun, Ta Lo, Duat, etc. but also consisted of Chronobowl (DCEU), Mount Olympus (DCEU), Axis Mundi (MonsterVerse), 4 Nations (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Spirit World (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Xadia (Netflix's The Dragon Prince), Heaven & Hell (Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss), and the Kraang Dimension (TMNT).
-The Titan's origins originated from the Celestial Tiamut from the Earth's core with the cosmic energy mutating small creatures into giant monsters. It is revealed that every planet in the universe not only has its celestials but also has its own set of Titans that play a key role in the planet's ecosystem. King Ghidorah is revealed to be one of the last few members of his species who survived his planet's Emergence and the reason why he and his kind terraform worlds is to rebuild the home they lost.
-Heaven and the Kraang played a role in the development of the Human race where it is revealed that Humans have various animal DNA, thus having the dormant gene that ties them to their animal ancestor.
-Lilith would be considered the "First Scarlet Witch".
-Due to Heaven's influence, their magic created the Gods and Goddesses in the universe. Adam would eventually create the Council of Godheads, where he is good friends with Zeus from Thor: Love and Thunder (aka Jupiter, the Roman counterpart of Zeus).
-The celestial's cosmic energy not only created Hollow Earth but also created pockets from the Earth's surface that created portals that allowed access to Hollow Earth from the surface.
-Asgardians, ancient Wakanda, Eternals, and Titans banding together with humanity, ancient Atlantis, ancient Green Lanterns, Olympians, and Themsycira in the fight against Darkseid, Steppenwolf, and their forces in ancient history.
-It is revealed that Titans, such as Sehkmet, Na Kika, and an unnamed Thunderbird Titan are responsible for Bashenga's, Talokanil's, and Chafa's origins and abilities instead of the Gods and Goddesses from Thor: Love and Thunder.
-The Titans and Startouch Elves would be labeled as "low-level" gods by the Council of Godheads.
-Atlantis, Asgard, Themyscira, Heaven, and Olympus (When the Greek Gods were still around) were aware of the existence of Titans and the role they play in the Earth's ecosystem. Similar to Asgardians, Titans were responsible for many legends and myths regarding mythical creatures and gods. The relationship between them and benevolent titans would be at best mutual notably towards those like Godzilla and Mothra but otherwise would be at odds with destroyer titans like Rodan and Scylla.
-The Eternals are aware of the Titans as well. Ikaris proposed killing them since they would be affecting the Earth's population and preventing the Emergence from progressing. However, Ajak talked him out of it as they observed Godzilla's species preserving the balance of nature, keeping the population steadying, keeping the other Titans at bay, and hunting/killing giant Deviants as well.
-The Eternals once met with Mothra, who Sersi and Sprite formed a close bond with.
-The animalistic Egyptian Gods and Goddesses (Khonshu, Anubis, Ammit, Tawaret, Horus, etc.) were once human-looking Gods/Goddesses before being exposed to the Kraang's Ooze, which mutated them into more animalistic creatures.
-Godzilla has a mixed relationship with the Eternals. While he approves them for keeping the Earth safe, he doesn't trust them due to their "unnatural" nature due to being from space, which is the same with King Ghidorah.
-Prior to his arrival on earth. King Ghidorah had a fearful reputation across the cosmos by civilizations, similar to that of Darkseid and Thanos.
-Both Thor and Rodan once fought each other in the past when Rodan at some point appeared in Scandinavia and terrorized the people, which prompted the Thunder God to engage. It was a long, withdrawn, and lengthy battle that eventually ended with Thor finally driving Rodan off. Like many legends and myths, this fight inspired one of those about Thor fighting a "Great Bird of Fire".
-Shazam was the first Sorcerer Supreme and taught the Ancient One magic.
-Wonder Woman and the original Shazam took part in imprisoning Ammit alongside the other Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.
-The radiation of Hollow Earth caused certain viruses and organisms to become more hostile when infecting their host while granting them various abilities. Examples include the T-Virus and the E-Series mold.
-Both Asgard and Mount Olympus are aware of Aaravos and his past crimes.
-The Ancient One visited both Xadia and the 4 nations once to learn more about both world's magic. The Ancient One also helped in imprisoning Aaravos.
-While Xadia is aware of dark magic, they are unaware of the Dark Dimension and Dormammu.
-King Ghidorah was without a doubt probably the only being that Darkseid and Thanos had ever developed a grudging respect. Both warlords are aware of King Ghidorah due to being just as feared by civilizations across the cosmos as they are. Despite classing Titans as "low-level" gods, the Council of Godheads also feared King Ghidorah due to his destructive nature.
-The Necrosword is made of the same metallic material used by the Exorcist Angels during their exterminations.
-Wonder Woman's presence in World War I inspired Johann Schmidt (aka Red Skull) to pursue mythology in hopes of creating weaponry for HYDRA.
-Captain America and Wonder Woman met during World War II when Steve was doing his USO Show.
-SHIELD is aware of Monarch and STAR Labs and has often collaborated with each other in the past.
-Packard is a relative of Nick Fury.
-Asgard and Krypton having had a history with one another and the former having tried to warn the latter of their inevitable doom, but were dismissed.
-Prior to Krypton's destruction. Zod and his soldiers had a run-in with Yondu and the Ravagers.
-Both SHIELD and Nick Fury were not only aware of the Titan's existence but also aware of Superman's arrival on Earth and kept close tabs on him since he was a child.
-Both Superman and Chris Redfield were Captain America fans when younger.
-After the T-Virus Incident in Raccoon City, SHIELD and Monarch helped with the clean-up.
-Bruce Wayne, William Stenz, Amanda Waller, and Chris Redfield were all targets of Project Insight.
-Alongside SHIELD, STAR Labs, B.S.A.A., and Monarch were all infiltrated by HYDRA Agents who sought their resources. They stole various technological weapons created by the Motherbox, samples of the T-Virus, and stole Titan DNA to create Titan clones.
-After the Turtles made their debut, SHIELD and Monarch kept close eye on them based on their mutation.
-After the Civil War, Amanda Waller proposed Task Force X to the government, in which Theaddeus Ross was among those who approved it while William Stenz opposed it. Abomination and Baron Zemo were among the possible candidates for Task Force X.
-Task Force X and Monarch weren't affected by the Sokovia Accords due to their connections with the government.
-After the Baker House Incident, SHIELD and Monarch not only helped clean up the situation but also got clues on the E-Series's origin. Not trusting the B.S.A.A. or Blue Umbrella, they gave the info to Chris, which led to his isolation from both organizations.
-Talokan would be considered one of the Kingdoms of Atlantis. Ocean Master would later try to recruit Namor, but decides not to as he was warned by the other rulers that Namor is more dangerous than Ocean Master himself.
-Karathen is revealed to be one of the lost Titans of Earth.
-Wakanda is aware of the existence of Atlantis but their ancestors have made a treaty with each other in not interfering. After the events of Aquaman, both T'Challa and Arthur meet in secret to discuss how to unite their kingdoms together and reveal their secret to the world. While Arthur respects T'Challa, he wants to keep Atlantis a secret until the time is right.
-Katolis would be aware of various magical humans such as Original Shazam and the Ancient One.
-Clark Kent/Superman, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Billy Batson/Shazam, and Mothra are beings capable of lifting Mjolnir.
-At the Senate hearing, alongside Serizawa, Nick Fury and Calvin Swanwick (Martian Manhunter) are among those who defended the Titans while Thaddeus Ross and Amanda Waller voiced against them.
-After the Titans were released, several Titans, such as Titanus Sehkmet, Behemoth, and Mokele-Mbembe all resided near Wakanda and all bonded with T'Challa/Black Panther while Titans such as Titanus Na Kika, Tiamat, and Amhuluk all resided near Talokan and bond with Namor.
-By the end of Infinity War and during the events of Endgame. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Lois Lane, Martian Manhunter, Joker, Lex Luthor, Black Mask, Victor Zsasz, Black Canary, Renee Montoya, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, Bruce the Hyena, Bloodsport, Harley Quinn, Rick Flagg, King Shark, Ratcatcher 2 and Sebastian, Polka-Dot Man, Captain Boomerang, Savant, Javelin, Blackguard, Mongal, T.D.K., Weasel, Thinker, Billy Batson/Shazam, Billy's foster parents and siblings, Amanda Waller, Emilia Harcourt, John Economos, Adebayo Waller, Clemson Murn/Ik Nobe Llok, Goff/Sophie Song/Eek Stack Ik Ik, Casper Locke, Larry Fitzgibbon, James Gordon, Atlanna, Mera, Arthur Jr., Starro, Peacemaker, White Dragon, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, Atom Smasher, Adrianna Tomaz, Karim, Amon Tomaz, Ishmael GregoSabbac, Blue Beetle and the Reyes family, Victoria and Jenny Kord, Carapax, Madison Russell, Mark Russell, Illene Chen, Houston Brooks, Sam Coleman, Nathan Lind, Illene Andrews, Jia, Josh Valentine, Bernie Hayes, Travis Beasley/Trapper, Walter and Maia Simmons, Ren Serizawa, Alan Jonah, Godzilla, Kong, half of the known titans, Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Ethan Winters, Mia Winters, Zoe Baker, Joe Baker, Mother Miranda, Karl Heisenberg, Lady Dimitrescu, Salvatore Moreau, Donna Beneviento, The Duke, Chris's Team, the Turtles, and Baxter Stockman would be amongst the survivors of The Blip.
-Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, Perry White, Martha Kent, Stephen Shin, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Katana, Killer Croc, Ling Chen, Rick Stanton, Diane Foster, Jackson Barnes, Anthony Martinez, Lauren Griffin, Rodan, other half of the known titans, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Sensei Splinter, Bebop, and Rocksteady were amongst the victims of The Blip.
-Similar to Scott Lang, Black Adam, Mothra, Khaji-Da, and the inhabitants of the 4 nations, Xadia, Heaven, and Hell would not be affected by the Blip.
-The only beings that sensed the Blip were the Avatar (Aang), The Archdragons of Xadia (Zubeia, Rex Igneous, Domina Profundis, and Sol Regem), the Seraphim (Sera and Emily), the Goetian Hierarchy (Stolas and Octavia), and the 7 Deadly Sins (Lucifer Morningstar, Asmodeus, Satan, Mammon, Beelzebub, Leviathan, and Belphegor).
-The victims of the Blip weren't sent to Heaven or Hell, they were stuck in Limbo.
-During the post-Blip, due to Thanos' actions, Godzilla had a hard time in trying to keep balance of the Earth with half of the remaining titans running loose. Due to the world powers struggling, they helped fund Apex Cybernetics to stabilize their economy as well as unknowingly helping Walter process with his Mechagodzilla experiment.
-Because of Thanos, the Corto Maltese government took advantage of this by continuing their experiments with Project Starfish and the Intergang were able to operate and have full control over Kahndaq. Many crime organizations in Gotham have either been dismantled due to the disappearance of the leaders or have been absorbed into the Black Mask Crime Organization. Jaime's family and his community go through financial struggles from Kord Industries due to the effects of the Blip.
-Due to less hero activity, the I.M.P.s operated their assassination business.
-Kingpin met with Joker and Black Mask during the Blip where the 2 made mutual agreements in developing a partnership. However, this agreement was broken due to Black Mask's death.
-The Joker was on Ronan's list of targets. However, due to his powerful influence, he was forced to back down.
-Due to the effects of the Blip, the butterflies decided to start their invasion by infecting powerful humans.
-After the Village's destruction, SHIELD aids Chris in a war against B.S.A.A.
-After Doctor Fate's death, Hawkman gives the Helmet of Fate to Kamar-Taj for safekeeping so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
-The Avengers and Justice League team up and join the time heist to find the Infinity Stones. With Iron Man's and Batman's technology, they create a black and red infinity gauntlet. Hulk still snaps his fingers which brings every living being back. During the final battle with Thanos, the Justice Society, Black Adam, Godzilla, and the other Titans arrive to join in the fight.
-Victoria Kord and Walter Simmons are among the many people who also had a hatred towards Tony Stark and are joyful about his death.
-After the events of Blue Beetle, Damage Control tried to apprehend him but was forced to back down due to public support.
-Godzilla would grow hostile towards the Hex that Wanda made. Due to being composed of cosmic radiation from the celestial, Godzilla and the other Titans are revealed to be immune to magic due to their massive size as well as not being affected by the Hex's effects. However, once Wanda leaves Westview, Godzilla will leave as well.
-After Endgame, Apex Cybernetics not only seeks to eliminate Titans but also superpowered individuals as well. After the events of GvK, Damage Control cleaned up the damage and acquired their resources.
-Among the deceased that would be in Heaven based on Adam's rule: "Act selfless, Don't Steal, and Stick it to the man" would be Tony Stark/Iron Man, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Peggy Carter, Ancient One, Ben Parker, May Parker, Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver, Phil Coulson, Steve Trevor, Jonathan Kent, Chato Santana/El Diablo, Silas Stone, Rick Flag, Alberto Reyes, José Morales, Ignacio Carapax/OMAC, and Nuidis Vulko.

-The Benevolent Titans have gained a reputation due to their involvement in keeping the planet safe and healthy.
-Driven by vengeance, Overlord Quentin Beck/Mysterio pays the I.M.P.s to assassinate Peter ParkeSpider-Man. However, this is during the events of No Way Home and when Doctor Strange performs the spell that erases everyone's memory of who Spider-Man is, the I.M.P.s were affected as well and called the mission off due to their amnesia.
-Maya Lopez's/Echo's Powers awaken the ancient Thunderbird Titan that lives near her hometown. She successfully bonds with the Titan.
-Ms. Marvel would not only be a Captain Marvel fan but also a Wonder Woman and Mothra fan as well.
-Riri Williams is a huge fan of both Iron Man and Cyborg which influenced her to create her own enhanced suits. While she has an intense hatred towards Apex Cybernetics after their dirty secrets were exposed, Riri started making concepts on how to build a giant-mech suit to combat hostile Titans.
-Thor recruits Wonder Woman and the Shazam family to help them stop Gorr the God Butcher. They arrive at Omnipotence City where Wonder Woman exposes the Greek Gods being the Roman counterparts with Zeus' real identity revealed to be Jupiter. After the mission, Thor gives Shazam the Thunderbolt.
-Wonder Woman then encounters Marc SpecteMoon Knight where she sees and speaks with Khonshu.
-When Doctor Strange and America Chavez arrive on Earth-838, they meet the Illuminati which not only consists of Captain Carter, Blackbolt, Captain Marvel (Maria Rambeau), and Mister Fantastic but also consists of Christian Bale's Batman and Brandon Routh's Superman.
-Same with Wakanda, the U.N. held a conference on whether the Titans should be contained or killed. Director Fontaine would state that the Titan's radiation helps balance the ecosystem of the planet and propose a solution where they can imprison the Titans and drain this energy they embody to help sustain the ecosystem, thus having them alive, but tortured.
-After Shuri takes the heart-shaped herb and becomes the next Black Panther, she communicates with Sehkmet, Behemoth, and Mokele-Mbembe for the first time. She convinces them to take part in the battle against Namor by battling against Na Kika, Tiamat, and Amhuluk.
-After the battle, Wakanda becomes harmonious with their Titans as they are welcomed in Wakanda and become its protectors alongside Shuri.
-After the alliance with Talokan, Aquaman visits Shuri on the same beach where she meets her nephew, T'Challa II, and warns her about her deal with Namor. Then he introduces his son, Arthur Jr., where he and T'Challa II develop a brotherly bond with each other.
-Due to the Secret Invasion, Superman was affected by the Anti-Alien Act and was forced into hiding.
-During the events of Secret Invasion, the Turtles were forced into hiding due to being confused for Skrulls.
-After the events of The Flash, Doctor Strange and Clea confront him that his actions in altering time created more incursions and recruit him to have them fixed.
-After the events of the Marvels, Monica Rambeau not only meets Binary and Beast but also meets Michael Keaton's Batman and Sasha Calle's Supergirl.
-After the events of Lost Kingdom, Atlantis revealed its existence to the world by joining alliances with the UN and Wakanda.
-Ms. Marvel's Quantum Bands and Shang-Chi's Ten Rings start behaving weirdly as they detect a signal from deep within Hollow Earth, signifying a war cry from ancient Titans known as the Skar King and Shimo.
-As Namor is preparing for the war against the surface by aligning themselves with Wakanda, he commands the Titans he bonded to gain strength. However, one of the Titans, Tiamat, is killed by Godzilla, and Namor is saddened when hearing the news.
-Ms. Marvel's Quantum Bands attracts the attention of Mothra, who believes that Mothra may be the key to bringing back Monica Rambaeu.
-The Avatar's (Aang) awakening was sensed by Doctor Strange.
Overall, this is my take on how this shared world would go. If you have any suggestions on how the shared world would go, feel free to reply!
Special thanks to
MichaeltheSpikester for the idea!

2024.05.19 07:52 LoudounCountySummary Finance/Government Operations and Economic Development Committee - May 14, 2024 - AI Generated Summary
This summary was generated by an AI LLM from autogenerated meeting captions. As such, this output may contain factual errors.
https://loudoun.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=89&clip_id=7674 Conclusions Reached
- The key conclusions that can be drawn from the transcript are:
- There is a desire to establish a county-wide sanitary district program to provide refuse and recycling collection services in areas without homeowner's associations (HOAs). This would allow the county to leverage its purchasing power to negotiate better rates and service standards.
- However, there is some debate around whether the county should subsidize the startup costs for this program or require it to be fully cost-recoverable from the residents in the sanitary districts.
- The committee also recommended creating a county-wide streetlight program that would use capital improvement program (CIP) funding to install new streetlights in communities that petition for them, with the ongoing maintenance and electricity costs being added to the county's operating budget.
- There were concerns raised about excluding HOA communities from being eligible for the streetlight program, and the committee amended the motion to include both non-HOA and HOA communities.
- A countywide flood assessment and mitigation program was also approved to be included in the FY2026 budget request, building on previous efforts to address flooding issues in certain areas of the county.
Detailed Summary
00:11:56 - 00:12:10
- The chair welcomed the committee and announced some adjustments to the agenda, including moving up item #12 (human services nonprofit grants) and the possibility of a dinner break.
- The chair also announced that all three credit rating agencies have confirmed the county's triple-A bond rating.
00:12:10 - 00:13:52
- The chair reviewed the 8 items proposed on the consent agenda.
- Supervisor Koran Saines requested item #10 (utilization of federal and state asset forfeiture funds) be removed from the consent agenda.
00:13:52 - 00:14:51
- The committee approved the remaining 9 consent agenda items in a 5-0 vote.
- The committee then heard an informational update from the Department of Economic Development.
00:14:51 - 00:20:01
- The new chair of the Economic Development Authority, Dr. Angela Wilson, introduced herself and discussed the authority's recent focus on strategic planning around entrepreneurship, housing, and economic development support.
- Supervisor Briskman and the chair discussed issues some businesses have faced with permitting and zoning, as well as workforce challenges, particularly the difficulty retaining employees due to the high cost of living in Loudoun County.
00:20:01 - 00:30:41
- The committee heard a presentation on the FY2025 human services and nonprofit grants program.
- There was discussion around monitoring whether religious organizations that receive grants are not using the funds for proselytization, as well as ensuring the grants are reaching Loudoun County residents.
- Supervisor Briskman raised concerns about the proposed subsidy of startup costs, arguing it would unfairly burden her constituents who are already paying higher taxes. The committee ultimately voted 3-2 to recommend the subsidy to the full board.
00:30:41 - 00:59:47
- The committee heard a presentation on the proposed sanitary district refuse and recycling collection program.
- Supervisor Umstattd expressed concerns about subsidizing the program, arguing it would unfairly burden her constituents who already pay for trash service through their town taxes.
- The committee voted 2-2 on a motion to approve the subsidy, so the item will move forward to the full board without a recommendation.
00:59:47 - 03:02:00
- The committee heard a presentation on a proposed county-wide streetlight program that would use CIP funding to install new streetlights in communities that petition for them.
- Supervisor Randall raised concerns about excluding HOA communities from eligibility, and the committee amended the motion to include both non-HOA and HOA communities.
- The committee voted 4-0-1 to recommend the streetlight program to the full board.
- The committee also heard a presentation and approved a motion to implement a county-wide flood assessment and mitigation program, to be included in the FY2026 budget request.

2024.05.19 06:59 QuestionMarkKitten Ludwig D&D game
I just had an awesome D&D game and I think my friend who was also the GM is both low key and high key an absolute genius.
Because, she came up with a brilliant campaign. I would love if Ludwig did something similar, I think it would make great content.
This occurred because her original party had some drama and split (which was why they didn't let me film it or reveal any identities. But, OMG I wish I could have because it was the best and funniest campaign I've seen in all 15 years of my playing this game.)
So being the geeks we are we settled the argument with a D&D duel... but a party vs. party duel. (I was called to fill in because someone rage quit over some other drama and they needed to keep the party numbers even. We are playing 4 vs. 4) She has essentially created a PVP version of D&D.
The campaign is: The city has been besieged by random monsters who keep appearing out of mysterious portals. So the Mayor has offered a thousand gold reward to the adventurers who kill the most monsters, thus thinning their numbers and keeping them at bay. Plus gold bonuses for reaching a certain amount of monster kills e.g. 100, 200, 1000. or for killing particular bosses.
However, kills can only be monsters. If you kill an NPC/townsfolk it is still considered murder. This and any other crime still applies if someone reports it to the city office and of course bounties will be put on anyone who commits a crime.
If caught, and jailed then found guilty you can be fined the 100g diamond dust each to resurrect the murdered (as long as their body is retrieved) or you will be executed if you cannot pay the fine(s). You can only claim the prize money or access the bank if your ledger is clear of any crimes.
We are playing the campaign on endless mode so we allow resurrection of party members, rescue from executions and buying new identities/re-rolling characters if you do get caught or killed but if you want to limit that, you can just end their character's story and have the player help the GM act out citizen NPCs when their character gets caught or killed. The other team...I mean ANYONE can claim the gold bounty if they assist in the capture of any criminal character. (We are also playing with friendly fire on, but that, again, is optional.)
To keep track of these kills/murders each team is assigned a guide played by the gm and given an enchanted bracelet (much like an iwatch). We used bards as the guides, but any class will do. This guide is a bit like a police officer or park ranger they show the adventurers around, they can be asked about knowledge of the terrain, city lore or rules of the tournament at any time. They also report back to the Mayor and enforce any rules/laws. (They can be killed, threatened or bribed but then they could also report you for the crimes or it could registered on the "enchanted bracelet" as a murder.) They are however a non-active party member who stays back away from the combat and offers minimal assitance when in town they go home or to the townhall head office to make reports and leave the adventurers to their plots and schemes.
You can claim the bonus gold or bounties at any time but only if you are in the city bank, there are no outstanding murders/crimes registered against you or a party member, and your guide is alive and around to verify it.
Here is the genius part, she runs each session turn based, team 1 one session then team 2 one session.
Here is where the game gets super fun: During your session, teams can sabotage each other as much as they want. Feed misleading intel to the citizens, plot assassinations of other party members, set traps, frame other party members for crimes, any shenanigans the players can think of to slow or eliminate the other party members is allowed. (My team this round divised a mail bomb which plays "pop goes the weasle" then fires an explosive weasel at their face. Which will be delivered to the other team next session.)
You can also come up with defenses or counter measures. Or you can get down to the business of racking up as many monster kills as possible by exploring the near by caverns or patrolling the city walls.
The other thing that was genius, is my friend set up a huge monitor and had AI generated art of things we described as we played, displayed on the screen in HD... so you immediately got some very vivid, graphic and bizarre images of the most random things. Like a weasle firing out of a jack in the box. đ€Ł
We also had a printer and laminator so that whenever an NPC, monster or even our own characters were described we could AI generate an image print it, laminate it and make it an instant token for the board.

âHey, what are we watching?â

âUgh, I canât stand this campy 80âs horror movies, I didnât like them when they were new, and I donât like them nowâ
[pause]
âIf you donât change the channel I willâ
[pause]

[pause]
âWhat was that trick jerry the poltergeist taught me back in 09?â
[pause]

[pause]
(SFX: static noises)
âHey...â
[pause]
âHey...â
[pause]
âHEY!!!!!â
[pause]
âYes, Iâm talking to youâ
[pause]
âNo, this is not part of your movie, your terrible, terrible, stupid movie, I really am talking to youâ
[pause]
âwhatâs the big idea dude?â
[pause]
âFor weeks I have been moving chairs and slamming doors, without even getting a single reaction out of youâ
[pause]
âJust to see you get scared and literally scream watching a boring 80âs horror movie, that aged like milkâ
[pause]
âPoint is, not coolâ
[pause]
âof course, is only now that you realize Iâm here, well about time!!!â
[pause]
âIâm a ghost, I haunt this houseâ
[pause]
âI'm talking through the tv, itâs a trick I learn from a poltergeist that lived in a radio onceâ
[pause]
âYeah, yeah nice to meet you too, whatever moving onâ
[pause]
âHow can you not notice the house is haunted? Even I literally pushed you down the stairs that one timeâ
[pause]
âYeah, sorry, that was meâ
[pause]
âI wasnât trying to kill you or anything, I was just trying to scare you and make you live my houseâ
[pause]
âYes, this is my house, I was born here, grew up here and I died here, itâs mineâ
[pause]
âI am not sharing it with anyone, I have scared off anyone who has moved hereâ
[pause]
âFirst it was the Jeffers in 82, they were a family of five, they were only here for 2 months before they packed up and leftâ
[pause]
âI took it slow, saw what they were like before starting doing thingsâ
[pause]
âThey were nice enough; the kids were a little annoyingâ
[pause]
âThen in 94, a woman and her daughter, the girl was into spooky stuff, her mom hoped it was just a phaseâ
[pause]
âAfter two weeks of things happening, she took a Ouija board and convinced the mom to have a seance, it only took shaking up the table a little and saying get out, for them to pack and leave the next dayâ
[pause]
âThen 2001, a painter, or was it a writer? Doesnât matter... he thought he was crazy, and that I was a product of his mindâ
[pause]
âWell, he was crazy, but the house was also hauntedâ
[pause]
âHe didnât run away though, he was hospitalized... it was better for him...â
[pause]
âAfter that it was a couple of newlyweds, a week of moving objects and they set a bunch cameras alloverâ
[pause]
âI decided to give them a show, there were out in a weekâ
[pause]
âWhat year it was?â
[pause]
â2007, why?â
[pause]
âAnyway, then it was 2012, letâs just say a sorority had to look for a new house, in only three days... that was my proudest moment...â
[pause]
âWhich brings us to youâ
[pause]
âSix weeks and you didnât even notice thereâs something going onâ
[pause]
âAre you that dense?â
[pause]
âWhat do you mean you knew?â
[pause]
âWell yeah, I donât want to hurt you, but still, I think you would at least get scared, you live in a seclude house, alone, in the woodsâ
[pause]
âWhy would you willingly live somewhere like this?â
[pause]
âThe rent is what?â
[pause]
âThat is... so little...â
[pause]
âHow dare they rent my house for just that?
[pause]
âMy father spent a fortune building it!!!â
[pause]
âIt pisses me offâ
[pause]
âWhat valid reasons?â
[pause]
âYes, I guess the garden could use some workâ
[pause]
âAnd the roof is a little moldyâ
[pause]
âCome on, is not as if anyone knows for sure that is hauntedâ
[pause]
âIt was in the contract?â
[pause]
âAnd you still moved here?â
[pause]
âyouâll really settle for anything, huh?â
[pause]
â...â
[pause]
âSay...â
[pause]
âIf I, hypothetically, agreed to share the houseâ
[pause]
âUnder the condition on not putting anymore stupid horror moviesâ
[pause]
âAnd let me watch at least an hour of cartoonsâ
[pause]
âAnd constantly speaking to me even if you canât hear me when I'm not in the tvâ
[pause]
âYes, I could move to any other screenâ
[pause]
âWhat? No, Iâm not moving to the screen of your phone, i have seen the stuff you look in itâ
[pause]
âYour laptop isnât as bad, but you still havenât answer meâ
[pause]
âWould you do all that?â
[pause]
âYes?â
[pause]
âThen, will agree to share the place with youâ
[pause]
âBecause this is the first conversation I had in like a centuryâ
[pause]
âIs rude to ask the age of a ladyâ
[pause]
âHmm... what year is this?
[pause]
âa little less than a hundred thenâ
[pause]
âI donât speak like an old lady because, I try to keep up with the lingo, why not, I mean, YOLO, you know?â
âWhy are you looking at me like that? What did I say?â

âI took it slow, saw what they were like before starting doing thingsâ
[pause]
âThey were nice enough; the kids were a little annoyingâ
[pause]
âThen in 94, a woman and her daughter, the girl was into spooky stuff, her mom hoped it was just a phaseâ
[pause]
âAfter two weeks of things happening, she took a Ouija board and convinced the mom to have a seance, it only took shaking up the table a little and saying get out, for them to pack and leave the next dayâ
[pause]
âThen 2001, a painter, or was it a writer? Doesnât matter... he thought he was crazy, and that I was a product of his mindâ
[pause]
âWell, he was crazy, but the house was also hauntedâ
[pause]
âHe didnât run away though, he was hospitalized... it was better for him...â
[pause]
âAfter that it was a couple of newlyweds, a week of moving objects and they set a bunch cameras alloverâ
[pause]
âI decided to give them a show, there were out in a weekâ
[pause]
âWhat year it was?â
[pause]
â2007, why?â
[pause]
âAnyway, then it was 2012, letâs just say a sorority had to look for a new house, in only three days... that was my proudest moment...â
[pause]
âWhich brings us to youâ
[pause]
âSix weeks and you didnât even notice thereâs something going onâ
[pause]
âAre you that dense?â
[pause]
âWhat do you mean you knew?â
[pause]
âWell yeah, I donât want to hurt you, but still, I think you would at least get scared, you live in a seclude house, alone, in the woodsâ
[pause]
âWhy would you willingly live somewhere like this?â
[pause]
âThe rent is what?â
[pause]
âThat is... so little...â
[pause]
âHow dare they rent my house for just that?
[pause]
âMy father spent a fortune building it!!!â
[pause]
âIt pisses me offâ
[pause]
âWhat valid reasons?â
[pause]
âYes, I guess the garden could use some workâ
[pause]
âAnd the roof is a little moldyâ
[pause]
âCome on, is not as if anyone knows for sure that is hauntedâ
[pause]
âIt was in the contract?â
[pause]
âAnd you still moved here?â
[pause]
âyouâll really settle for anything, huh?â
[pause]
â...â
[pause]
âSay...â
[pause]
âIf I, hypothetically, agreed to share the houseâ
[pause]
âUnder the condition on not putting anymore stupid horror moviesâ
[pause]
âAnd let me watch at least an hour of cartoonsâ
[pause]
âAnd constantly speaking to me even if you canât hear me when I'm not in the tvâ
[pause]
âYes, I could move to any other screenâ
[pause]
âWhat? No, Iâm not moving to the screen of your phone, i have seen the stuff you look in itâ
[pause]
âYour laptop isnât as bad, but you still havenât answer meâ
[pause]
âWould you do all that?â
[pause]
âYes?â
[pause]
âThen, will agree to share the place with youâ
[pause]
âBecause this is the first conversation I had in like a centuryâ
[pause]
âIs rude to ask the age of a ladyâ
[pause]
âHmm... what year is this?
[pause]
âa little less than a hundred thenâ
[pause]
âI donât speak like an old lady because, I try to keep up with the lingo, why not, I mean, YOLO, you know?â
âWhy are you looking at me like that? What did I say?â
[end]

2024.05.19 06:02 Ok_Accountant1541 Here are some things we can do since we own the float.
1. Active Voting Participation: Make sure to participate in all voting events. Retail investors should use their voting rights to influence decisions regarding corporate governance, executive compensation, and other strategic matters. This can help steer the company in directions that align with their interests as long-term shareholders. 2. Collective Action: By organizing collectively, retail investors can form a more unified front, making their collective voice harder to ignore. This can be facilitated through online platforms, investor forums, or social media groups where shareholders can discuss and align their views on various issues before voting. 3. Engagement in Shareholder Meetings: Attend shareholder meetings to gain insights into the companyâs performance and strategies and to express concerns or support for management decisions directly. These meetings are also a great opportunity to ask tough questions and request transparency from the companyâs leadership. 4. Advocacy for Transparency and Accountability: Push for greater transparency and accountability in how the company is managed. This includes advocating for clear disclosures about financial status, business strategies, and risk management practices. 5. Promoting Long-term Strategies: Support and advocate for strategies that promote sustainable, long-term growth over short-term gains. This can include investments in innovation, expansion into new markets, or initiatives that enhance the companyâs competitive advantage. 6. Monitoring and Responding to Corporate Proposals: Keep informed about any corporate proposals that could affect shareholder value, such as mergers, acquisitions, or changes to the corporate structure, and be prepared to vote on them with an informed perspective.
Holders stand to gain substantially in several ways:
1. Direct Influence on Strategy and Governance: Investors with voting rights can directly influence corporate decisions that affect the companyâs strategy and governance. By voting on key issues such as board composition, executive compensation, and strategic initiatives, shareholders can ensure that the companyâs direction aligns with their interests, potentially increasing the companyâs long-term value. 2. Enhancing Shareholder Value: By actively participating in governance, retail investors can help steer the company towards practices that enhance shareholder value. This might include advocating for cost-effective measures, exploring new market opportunities, or improving financial and operational efficiencies. 3. Risk Management: Investors involved in voting can push for better risk management practices, which can protect the company from volatile market conditions and unexpected financial downturns. This can stabilize the stock price and contribute to a more predictable and secure investment environment. 4. Accountability: With substantial voting rights, retail investors can hold management accountable for their actions. This can lead to more responsible management practices, transparency in operations, and better overall performance, discouraging actions that might adversely affect the company and its shareholders. 5. Long-term Planning: Investors can encourage the company to focus on long-term goals rather than short-term earnings. This could involve investing in research and development, pursuing sustainable practices, or retaining earnings to fund future growth instead of distributing high dividends. Long-term planning can result in sustainable growth, which could increase the companyâs market value and, subsequently, the value of the shareholdersâ investments. 6. Community Building: By rallying around common goals, shareholders can build a community focused on the companyâs success. This can foster a more engaged and informed shareholder base, which can be crucial during critical corporate decisions requiring shareholder votes. 7. Financial Gains from Stability and Growth: As the company grows and stabilizes through the influence of committed and strategic retail shareholders, the value of their investments could increase. Moreover, a well-governed company is more likely to attract additional investors, potentially driving up the stock price.
Overall, controlling the voting rights allows us retail investors to play an active role in shaping the companyâs future, potentially leading to significant financial and strategic gains if managed wisely.

2024.05.19 06:00 Direct-Caterpillar77 dealing with a problematic member of a board games group
dealing with a problematic member of a board games group Originally posted to Ask A Manager EDITORS NOTE: Changed Q to Quinn for easier reading Original Post Sept 15, 2022 I wanted to write and say thank you.
I am part of a local board games group, and started to run the group a while ago. Itâs a great group of people who all enjoy coming together to play board games and have fun, and it was one of the key factors in making my husband and I feel at home in the city where we live. We have both made friends with people in the group, and itâs now a firm part of our life here. In addition, a regular member who left recently said that the group was the highlight of his week, which was lovely to hear. I love running the group!
However, there is a member of the group, Quinn, who has been in the group since it started (seven years or more) and has been displaying problematic behavior since he joined (rude comments, refusing to play anyone elseâs games, losing his temper at times, leaving games in a huff when heâs losing, and generally making the atmosphere unpleasant for others). When we joined, we were told that Quinn bothered everyone but was just something that was being in the group, so we went along with that. At the time, the group was very serious and inclined towards more serious board games, and only three people ever brought games. There has been a real change of culture since then, with a range of games being played (light games, traditional games, and heavy games) and everyone brings games now. The atmosphere is a lot lighter, with more emphasis on having fun and being social, and this is something that Quinn does not enjoy and has not adjusted well to.
When I started to run the group, I noticed Quinnâs behavior was having a terrible effect on the group (people not coming back because of him or doing anything to avoid playing with him, and his preference for playing games in reverential silence making sessions less fun for everyone). I also realized that some people were at breaking point with this and it might contribute to them leaving.
The deputy (Kelly) and I wanted to ensure that we did it fairly and using the right procedure. We gathered feedback on the group, (which was useful in itself!), which confirmed that Quinnâs behavior was an issue, and I spoke to him, named what we were seeing with clear examples, and explained what we needed to see change. Quinn said he would take it on board. Your scripts and language were very helpful, as Quinn takes things very literally and factually.
Quinnâs behavior improved for four weeks, which was great. Some people have put up with it for so long that no amount of change will make them want to play games with Quinn, but some people were willing to give Quinn a chance. Unfortunately, Quinnâs behavior started to slip after four weeks, culminating in a session where they almost put a new member off coming back by lecturing them about group etiquette and insulting their game shelves with what was meant to be a joke, but did not land.
I spoke to Quinn again and explained that since the behavior we discussed had returned, if this did not improve, we would have to ask Quinn to leave as the group is for everyone and I need to do whatâs right for the group as a whole.
Quinn took the points on board and was visibly upset at the thought of being asked to leave the group. Since we spoke to them, they havenât attended of the two sessions since then, but they are still chatting on our Discord channel and seem to be trying to make amends by promoting the group to a studentsâ group in the city we live in.
We donât know what will happen, but Kelly and I have agreed what behaviors will mean Quinn will be asked to leave, and your scripts and posts were invaluable in thinking about how to tackle this, and what language to use. Your posts have helped me realize that being the group leader means that the buck stops with me. For example, my husband and I disagreed on how to handle the situation (he was in favor of asking Quinn to leave immediately) but I had the confidence to think it through, follow the process through fairly, and know that if it didnât work, that responsibility would rest with me.
This isnât related to work per se, but I wanted to say thank you very much for the invaluable and free advice which has really helped me in navigating this situation!
Update Apr 11, 2024 I am the letter writer who runs a board games group and used Alisonâs excellent advice about communication to deal with a problematic member of the games group and the issues their behavior was causing.
We had a twist in the tale recently when Quinn, the member who was asked to leave the group because their behavior was negatively impacting others, asked if they could come back.
For four weeks every year, we use a different venue as another group needs our normal venue. One one of the four weeks, I went for a walk before the session and noticed what looked like Quinn in the park. When the session started, Quinn appeared, just âpassing by,â and we had a quick chat about this and that before they asked if they could come back to the group, saying they were in a better place now. They then left without ordering anything, which makes me think they dropped in just to see us.
I said I would send a message, and gave it due consideration. I also asked a friend who knows Quinn and used to be in the group, but has now moved, for their more objective input.
The decision was no: the group is working well as it is, with high numbers and between 11 and 20 people per session, and Quinn coming back would lead to awkwardness and possible animosity from a few people, some of whom would speak their mind. We would also lose a lot of members, and the group would slowly decline. For what itâs worth, one person who had some very negative interactions with Quinn, when they heard why Quinn was there ( they were round the corner), exclaimed âNo!â to Quinn coming back, and this person is one of the nicest people youâll meet. Similar reactions were given from others.
I sent Quinn a message explaining the decision, and I was as fair and kind as possible given the circumstances. Quinn has found another games group, albeit one that only plays light games, (not heavy games, Quinnâs preference), and I mentioned that and said it sounds like a nice group (which it does).
Quinn was perfectly pleasant when we chatted, but that was for about eight minutes, and they knew what was coming. They also said that they werenât often doing the things Iâd mentioned anymore (moving other peopleâs pieces, and a couple of other examples I gave), and that although their new group likes light games, they are helping some people progress up to heavier games. It wasnât clear if the people wanted to progress (one of the issues we had was Quinn assuming that everyone wanted to progress).
The games group continues to do well, with enough surplus each year to give everyone free sessions every January, and we receive frequent feedback that the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and that people feel at home and confident to bring and teach their games there. Our annual Christmas potluck dinner and session with a Secret Santa also continues. We also have a Google sheet with peopleâs games collections, if they want to add them, thanks to one of our members who likes spreadsheets.
For myself, Ask a Manager continues to help me out at work! I recently applied for a job which would be a step up income wise and I used Alisonâs tips, and I use the communication tips in daily life as well as at work. I was actually used as a bargaining chip in recent negotiations at work over a type of meeting that needs minuting (for my minuting skills), so I will take that as a compliment!

2024.05.19 05:47 ywlke287 ThinkPad T14s Gen 3 AMD (G3A) - reflections of a former T430s user after >1 year
Back in late 2022, I was looking to upgrade my 10 year old ThinkPad T430s (which was still performing like a champ) to something a bit more modern with respect to being thin and lightweight while also being durable with good battery life. Given the state of Intel mobile CPUs at the time, the X1 Carbon was sadly out as an option as it only comes with Intel.
Overall, the T14s Gen 3 AMD was a great upgrade from my then-10 year old T430s. Now that I've had it for about 1.5 years, I figure I'd share my longer-term impressions of the laptop. Hope folks find the details below helpful, even though it's not late-breaking.
Configuration: CTO with Ryzen 7 6850U, 32 GB RAM, 400 nit low power screen, self-upgrade to Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB SSD
Likes: - Similar in portability/weight to the top-of-the-line X1 Carbon but with AMD CPU.
- The touchpad is very smooth and pleasant to use, unlike on my prior ThinkPads. (I would love to have the Fn-F12 key toggle the touchpad on and off as an option since my hands run warm and tend to activate it while typing.)
- The 400 nit screen is beautiful.
- The laptop is cool and quiet; the fan almost never runs with browsing or office tasks while on battery.
- I can get 8-12 hours of battery depending on what I'm running; I have yet to run out of battery between charges.
- The integrated graphics card is more than sufficient for light gaming.
- On top of that, it came certified to run Ubuntu Linux 20.04 (with the OEM kernel variant), which runs quite smoothly.
Stuck in standby problem - workaround identified: This was the single biggest annoyance I experienced. Routinely, every 0.5 days to a week, the laptop would fail to wake up from standby after being in it for at least an hour or so. The power light would just continue to pulse, and I would have to hard power off and on. Despite upgrading to Lenovo premier support, getting a system board replacement, as well as several more calls to premier support, I was never able to get the problem fixed, until
u/sbundlab's post on this sub:
https://www.reddit.com/thinkpad/comments/18fagpc/fix\_thinkpad\_p16s\_gen\_1\_amdt16\_amdp14s\_gen\_3/. Rolling back the Qualcomm Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers to 1.x did the trick and I haven't had another instance of stuck-in-standby since.
Keyboard: The keyboard isn't what it used to be (compared to a T430s or similar era) but the tradeoffs all seem to be related to making a thinner laptop, which is what I wanted anyways. The biggest thing I had to get used to with the keyboard was that the keys bottom out below the frame/tray, so if I hit a key too close to its edge, my finger will run into the frame. I actually think this is more of a problem for me than the decreased key travel itself. The most obvious time this happens is when I press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up Task Manager. I'm used to pressing Ctrl-Shift together with the thumb but when I do that now, the frame hits the middle of my thumb and I might not fully depress both keys so easily. The curvature of each key top is also less than what I prefer, but still better than flat. The arrow keys are sadly flat and I am noticeably less accurate with them as a result to either concave or convex keys. But otherwise the keyboard is fine to type on.
Quirks: - For some reason the laptop boots very slowly when I have a lot of USB devices attached; it's as if the BIOS is taking a long time to enumerate all of the devices. My workaround is just to be more patient, or to unplug USB until Windows starts to boot.
- I would prefer to have kept volume keys separate from F keys since I actually use my F keys routinely.
- I would prefer to have orange or green keyboard LEDs instead of white, since white is a little harsher in the dark.
- I prefer the old power status indicators on the lid; the pulsing red dot while in standby is sleek, but it means I have to stare at the laptop for a good 3 seconds to figure out if it's in standby versus straight on or off.
Other quibbles: - When using the laptop on my lap, the bottom of the screen hits my leg. This is because the hinge now swings the screen behind the base rather than keeping it entirely above the base like it did with older models.
- It takes two hands to open the laptop lid, which is due to increased friction keeping the laptop closed now that latches aren't used any more.
- The lower edge of the base now has a hard corner transition rather than a taper, since the laptop is too thin to taper. It doesn't bother me when typing but I notice it when I do a one-handed carry with the laptop open.
- I worry a little about the durability of the USB-C connection which is required for charging. But at least both ports can charge.
