I built a cross-platform full-stack application template with Rust, Cargo Mobile 2, Dioxus, Warp, Diesel, PostgreSQL, Supabase Auth, Bun and TailwindCSS, available on https://github.com/albbus-stack/t5.rs
You can now ship the same Rust codebase on Windows, Linux, Android and Web (and more to test). Currently this template supports authentication, routing and database interactions through an api server.
The creation of this project was inspired by an attempt at rewriting in Rust the t4-app project (https://github.com/timothymillet4-app), a cross-platform template written in Typescript.
For now I've tested this on a few devices (the systems listed above) and works fine after having setup all the necessary tools and environment variables. I would greatly appreciate some testing on MacOS and iOS since I don't have access to those systems. Any other type of feedback is welcome here or directly on Github issues.

2024.05.14 12:20 dojo_sensei Free Tech Tools and Resources - Azure/365 Doc Links, Diagram Editor, Printer Scanning & More

Just sharing a few free tools, resources etc. that might make your tech life a little easier. I have no known association with any of these unless stated otherwise.
But first, in the latest Security Swarm Podcast: "A Breakdown of CSRB’s Findings on Microsoft Storm-0558 Breach (PART 2),” is a continuation from last week’s episode where we discussed the CSRB’s findings on Microsoft’s Storm-0558 Breach. This week, we continue picking apart the findings and providing insights.
We're looking for your favorite tips and tools we can share with the community... those that help you do your job better and more easily. Please share your suggestions on the IT Pro Tuesday subreddit, and we'll be featuring them in the coming weeks.
Now on to this week's list!
A Free Tool
Centro 365 is a browser extension that makes it easier to find the info you need on Microsoft Azure and 365. Dintid explains, "My work consists 95% working in the 365 suite—in all of the sections. And being a small IT staff in a non-profit, it’s hard to keep up with the weekly changes MS are doing to naming and placement of stuff. Leads to my useful tool on a daily basis, an extension for my browser, which basically is just a drop down with the different sections and subsections. Clicking it and you go to the right url for it."
Another Free Tool
Mermaid is an online flowchart and diagrams editor that was designed to keep tech documentation current. TheRaido explains, "For documentation with diagrams, I tend to use Mermaid, which can be used in Markdown in VS Code and is also supported by Obsidian.md."
A Tip
A favorite Windows command for jonathanjohnson0724:
will list the IP and MAC addresses of almost everything in the local subnet (192.168.0.[1-254]), including most things that don’t respond to ping. Not as fancy as Angry IP Scanner, but it’s on every Windows system; so quick and easy to use.
Yet Another Free Tool
WizTree helps you quickly find the files and folders using the most disk space on your hard drive. Rather than searching the drive and checking each file to determine size, WizTree gets its information straight from the NTFS Master File Table—which means it happens almost instantaneously. evilkasper finds it does the same thing as WinDirStat, but much faster.
One More Free Tool
Page Countster is a small, portable application for reporting on network printers. Provides a super fast, easy way to access info and interact with all the connected printers. tkecherson says, "For printers, I prefer an old freeware utility, Page Countster. Automatically picks up just the printers and a host of other info about them in an incredibly lightweight utility."

2024.05.14 11:54 Sir_Elderoy How to build for macOs

Hello there.
I'm posting for all of the people like me who stumble across this post (mentioning the error ”System.Exception: Error: could not find matching certificate for Developer ID Application; please check your ‘Signing Identifier’ in your macOS Options”) in a desperate quest to make their game working on macOS, as the official GameMaker documentation is IMO laking some critical informations, and the error in the IDE does not specify what certificate is missing and what exactly a Team Identifier.
At the time of writing here are my specs:
Here is the complete walkthrough:
  1. Make an apple Developer Account on developer.apple.com (if you already own a regular Apple ID, you can also use it here)
  2. Enroll for Developer (cost a yearly fee)
  3. Go to https://developer.apple.com/account. On scrolling this page, under ‘Membership Details’ you’ll find your Team Identifier, which is a string of 10 uppercase characters. Copy it as we’ll need it in GameMaker.
  4. Install XCode from the macApp Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12
  5. Open XCode
  6. Go to the menu XCode -> Settings and go into the Accounts tab
  7. On the bottom left corner, clic on +
  8. Select Apple ID and hit Continue
  9. Clic on your Apple ID on the left side
  10. On the bottom right side, hit ‘Manage Certificate’
  11. Add all of the available certificates (Apple Development, Apple Distribution, Mac Installer Distribution, Developer ID Application, Developer ID Installer)
  12. Open GameMaker
  13. Go to the menu GameMaker -> Settings
  14. In the settings window, open Plateform -> macOS
  15. In Team Identifier, paste the Team identifier found in step 3 and hit apply
You can now hopefully build an executable for distribution.
At the end of the building process, If macOs asks for a password for Mac Developer ID Application, leave blank and hit Continue.
Additional notes:
Informations that I don't have oand don't understand and IMO need to be added in the official documentation, as I had to tinker around with (and at the end of the day I am not even sure what worked):

2024.05.14 09:41 ash2625 Affordable revlon glass shine rum raisin dupe!

Affordable revlon glass shine rum raisin dupe!
For reference I am probably NW18/NW20 in MAC, and my L’Oreal true match foundation in N5 is a perfect match for me. I have fair to medium skin with neutral olive undertones. On my lips it is a pinky, sliiiightly orange shade that pops without looking neon. If you are warmer or duskier than me this will look brighter on you.
Both of them are extremely similar in terms of formulation and color (some of the ingredients are the same). But if I had to mention a few differences:
-SB is peachier than Revlon, which is pinker. On the lips they look the same in indoor white light.
-Revlon has a more jelly-like texture compared to the balmy texture of the SB lip balm.
-Revlon is slightly glossier but the shine fades away quickly despite the “glass shine” name and influencer reviews.
I absolutely loved the Swiss Beauty craze tinted lip balm in the shade ‘marshmallow’. It is nice and slippy upon initial application and doesn’t feel cheap and waxy at all. The tint isn’t patchy, and didn’t look terrible even when my lips were kinda dry. It is not very hydrating but feels comfortable throughout 3-4 hours of wear, and the tint doesn’t disappear into thin air (but ofc it will not last through a meal). The color may appear slightly peachier on the lips once it fades.
For RS 230 this is a great product and better than paying 1500-2000 to resellers in my opinion. In a sea of tinted balms that are mostly red/pink/orange this is a nice change and I have found my holy grail.
(If you want lip swatches please comment and I will PM it to you)

Can someone explain to me why currently pay for the PLUS account? The application on MacOS completely does not interest me. The same goes for the larger limits, which I haven't crossed even once. What does the PLUS account currently give what free does not?

2024.05.14 07:44 Murky_Egg_5794 CORS not working for app in Docker but work when run on simple dotnet command

Hello everyone, I am totally new to Docker and I have been stuck on this for around 5 days now. I have a web app where my frontend is using react and Node.js and my backend is using C#, aspNet, to run as a server.
I have handled CORS policy blocking as below for my frontend (running on localhost:3000) to communicate with my backend (running on localhost:5268), and they work fine.
The code that handles CORS policy blocking:
var MyAllowSpecificOrigins = "_myAllowSpecificOrigins"; var builder = WebApplication.CreateBuilder(args); builder.Services.AddCors(options => { options.AddPolicy(name: MyAllowSpecificOrigins, policy => { policy.WithOrigins("http://localhost:3000/") .AllowAnyMethod() .AllowAnyHeader(); }); }); builder.Services.AddControllers(); builder.Services.AddHttpClient(); var app = builder.Build(); app.UseHttpsRedirection(); app.UseCors(MyAllowSpecificOrigins); app.UseAuthorization(); app.MapControllers(); app.Run();
However, when I implement Docker into my code and run the command docker run -p 5268:80 App to start Docker of my backend, I received an error on my browser:
Access to XMLHttpRequest at 'http://localhost:5268/news' from origin 'http://localhost:3000' has been blocked by CORS policy: Response to preflight request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.
I add Krestrel to appsetting.json to change the base service port as below:
 "Kestrel": { "EndPoints": { "Http": { "Url": "http://+:80" } } }
Here is my Dockerfile:
# Get base SDK Image from Microsoft FROM AS build-env WORKDIR /app ENV ASPNETCORE_URLS=http://+:80 EXPOSE 80 # Copy the csproj and restore all of the nugets COPY *.csproj ./ RUN dotnet restore # Copy the rest of the project files and build out release COPY . ./ RUN dotnet publish -c Release -o out # Generate runtime image FROM WORKDIR /app COPY --from=build-env /app/out . ENTRYPOINT [ "dotnet", "backend.dll" ]
Here is my launchSettings.json file's content:
{ "_comment": "For devEnv: http://localhost:5268 and for proEnv: https://kcurr-backend.onrender.com", "iisSettings": { "windowsAuthentication": false, "anonymousAuthentication": true, "iisExpress": { "applicationUrl": "http://localhost:19096", "sslPort": 44358 } }, "profiles": { "http": { "commandName": "Project", "dotnetRunMessages": true, "launchBrowser": true, "applicationUrl": "http://localhost:5268", "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } }, "https": { "commandName": "Project", "dotnetRunMessages": true, "launchBrowser": true, "applicationUrl": "https://localhost:7217;http://localhost:5268", "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } }, "IIS Express": { "commandName": "IISExpress", "launchBrowser": true, "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } } }, }
I did some research on this and found that I need to use NGINX to fixed it, so I add nginx.conf and tell docker to read nginx.config as well as below:
now my Dockerfile only has:
# Read NGIXN config to fixed CORS policy blocking FROM nginx:alpine WORKDIR /etc/nginx COPY ./nginx.conf ./conf.d/default.conf EXPOSE 80 ENTRYPOINT [ "nginx" ] CMD [ "-g", "daemon off;" ]mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/sdk:7.0mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/sdk:7.0
here is nginx.conf:
upstream api { # Could be host.docker.internal - Docker for Mac/Windows - the host itself # Could be your API in a appropriate domain # Could be other container in the same network, like container_name:port server 5268:80; } server { listen 80; server_name localhost; location / { if ($request_method = 'OPTIONS') { add_header 'Access-Control-Max-Age' 1728000; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' '*'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'Authorization,Accept,Origin,DNT,X-CustomHeader,Keep-Alive,User-Agent, X-Requested-With,If-Modified-Since,Cache-Control,Content-Type,Content-Range,Range'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'GET,POST,OPTIONS,PUT,DELETE,PATCH'; add_header 'Content-Type' 'application/json'; add_header 'Content-Length' 0; return 204; } add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' '*'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'Authorization,Accept,Origin,DNT,X-CustomHeader,Keep-Alive,User-Agent, X-Requested-With,If-Modified-Since,Cache-Control,Content-Type,Content-Range,Range'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'GET,POST,OPTIONS,PUT,DELETE,PATCH'; proxy_pass http://api/; } }
when I build docker by running: docker build -t kcurr-backend . and then running command docker run -p 5268:80 kcurr-backend, no error shown on console as below:

Access to XMLHttpRequest at 'http://localhost:5268/news' from origin 'http://localhost:3000' has been blocked by CORS policy: Response to preflight request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.
I add Krestrel to appsetting.json to change the base service port as below:
 "Kestrel": { "EndPoints": { "Http": { "Url": "http://+:80" } } }
ENTRYPOINT [ "dotnet", "backend.dll" ]mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/sdk:7.0mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/sdk:7.0
Here is my launchSettings.json file's content:
{ "_comment": "For devEnv: http://localhost:5268 and for proEnv: https://kcurr-backend.onrender.com", "iisSettings": { "windowsAuthentication": false, "anonymousAuthentication": true, "iisExpress": { "applicationUrl": "http://localhost:19096", "sslPort": 44358 } }, "profiles": { "http": { "commandName": "Project", "dotnetRunMessages": true, "launchBrowser": true, "applicationUrl": "http://localhost:5268", "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } }, "https": { "commandName": "Project", "dotnetRunMessages": true, "launchBrowser": true, "applicationUrl": "https://localhost:7217;http://localhost:5268", "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } }, "IIS Express": { "commandName": "IISExpress", "launchBrowser": true, "environmentVariables": { "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development" } } }, }
I did some research on this and found that I need to use NGINX to fixed it, so I add nginx.conf and tell docker to read nginx.config as well as below:
now my Dockerfile has additional section:
# Get base SDK Image from Microsoft FROM AS build-env WORKDIR /app ENV ASPNETCORE_URLS=http://+:80 EXPOSE 80 # Copy the csproj and restore all of the nugets COPY *.csproj ./ RUN dotnet restore # Copy the rest of the project files and build out release COPY . ./ RUN dotnet publish -c Release -o out # Generate runtime image FROM WORKDIR /app COPY --from=build-env /app/out . ENTRYPOINT [ "dotnet", "backend.dll", "--launch-profile Prod" ] # Read NGIXN config to fixed CORS policy blocking FROM nginx:alpine WORKDIR /etc/nginx COPY ./nginx.conf ./conf.d/default.conf EXPOSE 80 ENTRYPOINT [ "nginx" ] CMD [ "-g", "daemon off;" ]
here is nginx.conf:
upstream api { # Could be host.docker.internal - Docker for Mac/Windows - the host itself # Could be your API in a appropriate domain # Could be other container in the same network, like container_name:port server 5268:80; } server { listen 80; server_name localhost; location / { if ($request_method = 'OPTIONS') { add_header 'Access-Control-Max-Age' 1728000; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' '*'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'Authorization,Accept,Origin,DNT,X-CustomHeader,Keep-Alive,User-Agent, X-Requested-With,If-Modified-Since,Cache-Control,Content-Type,Content-Range,Range'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'GET,POST,OPTIONS,PUT,DELETE,PATCH'; add_header 'Content-Type' 'application/json'; add_header 'Content-Length' 0; return 204; } add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' '*'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'Authorization,Accept,Origin,DNT,X-CustomHeader,Keep-Alive,User-Agent, X-Requested-With,If-Modified-Since,Cache-Control,Content-Type,Content-Range,Range'; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'GET,POST,OPTIONS,PUT,DELETE,PATCH'; proxy_pass http://api/; } }
when I build docker by running: docker build -t kcurr-backend . and then running command docker run -p 5268:80 kcurr-backend, no error shown on console as below:

Does anyone know what I should do to fix the CORS policy blocking for my dockerized backend?
please help.

2024.05.14 07:16 Sherman8019 Why

Why can’t I ever get over this hump, why can’t I just get a single result that’ll ease my stress, why can’t I just win one small thing.
I have been applying to med for a while now and this is my fifth application cycle. Ontario resident, 514 MCAT in 2019, retook in 2021 for 520, but with a 127 CARS so it’s basically good for nothing in this country, and 3.99 OMSAS overall GPA/4.0 AMCAS GPA.
In 19/20 I got waitlisted for an interview at Mac, got the interview and then COVID happened which turned the admissions to a lottery after the first 100 pre-II top scores got in. I knew I wasn’t in that 100 because I was waitlisted, so I needed the lottery to get in, but that didn’t amount to anything so I got waitlisted again for admission. I didn’t get in, although a bunch of my friends did.
Thankfully they postponed our interviews to the 20/21 cycle so I had another shot then, but they had technical difficulties during the first first round of interviews (which is when mine took place) and made us redo our interviews a week later. This was a bummer since I thought my first MMI went quite well. Unfortunately, the second round of interviews was worse because I had to respond to text-based prompts instead of actual interviewer interaction, so my succeeding interview was much worse. I got waitlisted again for Mac, and again, did not get accepted. But hey blaming others for my mistakes is loser mentality, so onto the next year.
21/22 I took on a full-time job at a clinic to get some clinical experience and retook my MCAT so that I could apply to American schools. However, I applied late which is apparently a big no-no in the States. Somehow, I pulled an interview from a pretty good school (WashU in St Louis), and thought the interview went great. Apparently not, because I got waitlisted again. I'd like to keep the reader in mind that I have consistently been applying to every Ontario school, UBC, Manitoba, and 20 American schools from this point onwards. WashU was my only interview that year though, and as you'd expect, my waitlist did not go anywhere.
22/23 I started a master's in biomed eng., which was super ambitious for me considering I didn't have any experience in engineering as my bachelor's was in biomed science. This year I get 0 interview offers, but that's ok since it gave me more time to complete my master's and strengthen my ECs and stuff.
23/24, aka this year, I finally get some luck with interviews. Got one from UBC, Western, uOttawa, and an interview from a really amazing US school that I won't name. Interview with the US school felt great to me - waitlisted. UBC interview felt fine - rejected last week. Western felt great - waitlisted. So now I am waiting for uOttawa at the dead of night, and remembered that uOttawa was by far my worst interview. But you know, that's not even what I am upset about right now.
I think it is absolutely comical how many times I have gotten waitlisted now. I am put in this perpetual loop of getting my hopes up, having a train ran through those hopes, and then slowly thinking "gOLly MaYBe I wIlL gEt iN oFf tHe WaItLiSt tHiS tImE" and then I never do. I don't get it, I don't get why I am just never good enough. My PI has been praising me saying she is amazed by how fast I have been working to complete my thesis on time because of the June 30th deadline, and she is praising me for all sorts of things and saying how she hates that she's going to lose me to med school and wish I could stay to do a PhD with her. Well Dr. H looks like I am not going anywhere so don't you worry!
I have been busting my ass for the past several months trying to get my thesis completed in time, and apparently it's been for nothing. I have wasted so much money on applications throughout these years, and it's been for nothing. Sorry to mom and dad and for anyone else in my life who was rooting for me, you will never see this post but I am genuinely sorry for disappointing you all, I don't have the courage to actually say it to your faces. Whatever man, I'm so tired.
PS: if anyone here asks me to move out of province, or to apply to DO schools, or gives advice to strengthen my app or interview by doing X or Y, or any other suggestions I see million times on these kind of posts. No. I am done. You know why? Because my MCAT expires after this application cycle in the States. I am not retaking a 520 MCAT.

2024.05.14 04:09 InternationalAd4447 2020 macbook pro trouble shooting

I purchased my macbook in 2020 at the beginning of my undergraduate degree and have used it almost everyday since. It has worked great, but in the last month or two I have noticed some problemos.
I used to close my macbook lid and it would sleep, and hold charge (unplugged). Now when I close the lid, it does not sleep (my screen time shows that I am on my laptop when im not). I wake up and go to work to find my laptop battery is drained to 0… it could be at 100% the night prior.
Weirder, now when I close the lid of my laptop, the clock stops. And when reopened, it displays the time at which it was last opened.
I have limited applications and downloads. Lots of files from my university studies, I had tried downloading a free version (bootlegged) of graph pad to help with new job. But soon deleted because it did not function.
I have tried trouble shooting using advice from reddit and such to no resolve. If any advice as to what this could be?? Malware? Virus? Please comment. I do not have money to buy a new mac and this one has been so reliable for me over the past 4 years of constant usage!! Thanks.

2024.05.14 01:47 SomeRandomDuck3385 Tripwire not working.

https://reddit.com/link/1cre6bvideo/h6lmh3jz3a0d1/player
I just started the game a week or so ago, and I want to start using tripwire for wormhole navigation, as getting to and from null-sec through gates has cost me many a ship.
I finished watching Captain Benzie's video on the topic, (very useful vid btw) and went to test it out when this happened.
I've tried some of the methods it suggested with no success, there don't seem to be any abnormalities in the URL, and I'm at a bit of a loss.
For some extra information that may be relevant to the topic, I'm playing on an M2 MacBook Air. My house also has set up something called Pi-Hole (Network-level advertisement and Internet tracker-blocking application, that acts as a DNS sinkhole), that could be interfering with the site.
I would greatly appreciate some new perspectives on this, cause I'm stumped.

2024.05.14 00:47 DatGuyAron [Discussion] Fellow Linux simmers: would it be better to run the game's 64-bit macOS version through Darling instead of using WINE/Proton and running the 32-bit Windows version?

Infamously, The Sims 3 is 32-bit on Windows, which means it's starved of memory while saving and causes Error Code 12 if you have too much CC installed or too many expansions enabled (or if the game just feels like screwing you over).
However, starting from late 2005 with versions of OS X Tiger after the short-lived 32-bit G5 series, Apple discontinued 32-bit apps developed for their older PowerPC chipset. This, in turn, effectively transitioned all Apple computers into 64-bit platforms. Because EA didn't want to lose out on the sweet, sweet revenue from Mac users, they released The Sims 3 on OS X. The thing is, though, they had to compile the game for Apple's 64-bit chipset, and, by extension, develop what I consider to be the more "modernised" version of TS3 at a glance.
I don't know much about the OS X version, though. Was it maintained the same way the Windows version was? Gaming on anything other than Windows or mobile was almost unheard of before the advent of compatibility software like WINE, so I imagine there's a real chance the OS X version was discontinued before the 1.67/1.69 patches.
By being 64-bit, the OS X version has an expanded memory pool- and by that, I mean it has a memory pool 4 billion times larger than the 32-bit memory pool limit. While a 32-bit executable like the Windows version has a limit of roughly 4 gigabytes, a 64-bit application has a limit of 16 exabytes. As a rule of thumb, one exabyte is worth one billion gigabytes.
If anyone has experience with the OS X version of Sims 3, please let me know if I'm completely incorrect and/or stupid, or if I'm onto something here. This idea came very suddenly to me (it was a literal shower thought), and I'm still somewhat illiterate in IT, as hard as I try to understand it.
TL;DR: The OS X version of Sims 3 could potentially fix Error Code 12 on legacy playthroughs.

2024.05.14 00:10 Dream1iner MacBook pro battery data

MacBook pro battery data
Hey folks.
I've been on a little adventure with my MB Pro 2021, the battery stats reported by the system are weird.
Couple issues that I've noticed: 1. When I unplug it, the battery just sits there at 100% for maybe just half an hour or so, and then it starts its slow descent to 0%.
  1. As the laptop charges, it reaches 100% capacity (100% reported by system), at pace that is a bit faster that I expect from lithium-ion battery.
So, I hit up google and stumbled upon ioreg -n AppleSmartBattery -r -a
That command will return tons of raw battery data including health, charge, resistance. etc. So I decided to put together my app to replace "not entirely true" menu bar application that provided in mac os.
it's written on Go, and basically doing 1 calculation:
batCharge := int(float64(battery.Current) / float64(battery.Full) * 100)
  • systray package to be displayed at menu bar.
What it is doing: 1. Calculating battery charge level in % based on raw data from battery 2. Showing that in menu bar with updates every 5 seconds if needed 3. Not giving me 100% for ages
There is 3 states, that it can display:
Discharging - regular xx% value
Charging - xx% values + ⚡ symbol
3When battery actually charged it will display \"Full\"
Code is available on github, as usual pre builded .app is also there.
Pre builded app tested on MB Pro 2021.

2024.05.13 22:50 eidikosclub Persona 4 Golden - Crossover Potential Fix?

My mac: Macbook Pro Apple M2 Max 32 Gb Ram on Mac OS - Sonoma 14.4.1
I bought P4:G because it shows high compatibility on the Crossover website - game booted up perfectly ran 60FPS and then at a certain point in the game it always crashes. Either goes to a black screen or a box comes up that says Application Crashed.
I reached out to their Contact Line and got a vague “we are working on the issue” I am considering just buying the game on the Japanese PSN (I’m playing it for language learning reasons) and playing it there but anyone else have a similar issue and fix it?

When I try deploy my AR app from a Macbook Air using Sonoma 14.4.1 to an iPhone 14 Pro, it fails at the VPN & Device Management stage. When I click 'Trust' it works but when I click 'Verify App' on my phone it fails. I've tried this while connected to wifi and while on mobile data, both when plugged into my Mac and when not but I get the same result each time.
The project itself is from Unity's AR for Mobile Pathway and is the initial trial project you download with just a spinning cube. I followed the configure instructions exactly.

2024.05.13 22:24 Sin-God Master Of All: A Really Neat Perk (& Also Other Generic Gamer Musings)

Today I'm discussing Master of All, which is a perk from Generic Gamer. If you've never seen this perk or heard of this jump... this perk is probably the best singular perk in the jump (though ALL of them are really good), but it's not the INTENDED reason to come here. I personally think an early jump could stand to benefit from fusing GGJ with a more mundane jump (which is what my latest story-jumper is doing though not by choice) and grabbing this perk, it's appeal is kind of amazing. Now let's see the ACTUAL perk!
Master of All: Specialists focus on depth at the expense of breadth; generalists focus on breadth at the expense of depth. But what if you could focus on a single ability and have it benefit all of them? When you train one skill, ability, or power, that training and development applies not just to it, but to all of the skills, abilities, and powers you possess.
This is, understandably, a capstone perk. It is immensely powerful, and is the best TRAINING perk I've ever seen. There are BETTER perks out there for mastering stuff, heck I'll even include the other capstone in this jump just so you can see a better perk for MASTERING something.
Hyperspecialization: There’s focusing in a few specific areas, and then there’s this. Select a single skill, ability, power, Perk, whatever, so long as it’s possible to improve. At base, two things happen. A: the chosen ability progresses as if you’re training with it all the time, even when you’re doing nothing; if you were to actively train with it, the rate of growth would be effectively doubled. B: the rate of growth and development for the chosen ability is multiplied by a hundred.
Now, keep in mind that that’s just at base — both of these boosts increase gradually but exponentially the longer you focus on a single ability. Give it a few days, and the rate of growth will be multiplied by two hundred; a month, and by a thousand. You can change what ability you’re focusing on at any time at the cost of resetting the accrued exponential boosts.
Hyperspecialization IS a better perk if you want to master singular skills (or if you need a boost in power or skill in some SPECIFIC area but don't have the time to actually sit down and hone that area), but if you want to TRAIN something, if you value working for your goals, and if you want to be a jack of all trades Master of All is the better perk. And of course you could always grab BOTH perks, you could even do so without a SINGLE drawback AND you could still get other perks WITHOUT stacking drawbacks due to the discount mechanics of this jump. But I strongly prefer Master of All, personally.
Master of All is a very creative way to reward engagement in a setting which is something I'm always a fan of. A smart jumper who is not constrained by something like the notion of a fickle benefactor who ACTUALLY punishes boring jumpers might get something like Hyperspecialization and want to turtle up, but with Master of All you need to do SOMETHING for it to benefit you. Now WHAT you do doesn't matter, so long as you do SOMETHING that serves as training.
A very fun build could be for someone to snag both Skills, which is a function of the gamer system in Generic Gamer and then grab MoA and go to something like Generic School Years and diligently study. That studying will definitely count for MoA, since studying will definitely become or involve a skill as defined by Skills. This means that while you're studying you're becoming better at gymnastics, or cooking, or painting, or... using The Force, or mana management, or whatever other skills you've gained at this point in your journey.
One small facet of Master of All that is very interesting is how it stacks with uncappers and the very neat knowledge that there is a free uncapper in Generic Gamer (it's a facet of the gamer system!). This means that Master of All will eventually give you stuff like functionally limitless stamina and potentially unlimited strength, once you get the right upgradeable stuff at least. A fun thing I like about this perk is how it affects stuff like workouts. Workouts not only make you more physically fit with this, they also strengthen your perks, strengthen facets of your physique, and can even improve your luck (assuming there is a perk for your luck, which there IS in this jump in two senses: there's The Devil's Own Luck, AND there's a gamer function called Attributes, which CAN give you a luck stat if you want, I recommend it partially to mix with this perk). The idea that going for a joydrive can strengthen your telekinesis, or actively make you smarter is very funny but also very true with this perk and the right mix of gamer things.
This perk on it's own is somewhat limited, but a smart strategist who wants their jumper to be able to stand alone has a lot of options they can use. Two of my favorites here are Jack of All Trades and Experience Booster. JoAT is a fun perk that makes it much easier for you to hone new perksyou acquire along your chain, and Experience Booster is just a POWERHOUSE of a perk that boosts how much experience you get from anything that gives you experience, whether you only get it from defeating enemies or you get it from doing minor stuff, and if you mix it with Master of All you get a powerful combination since it makes it so that your workouts buff your brain by twenty times as much as they would otherwise. The best way to cheese it has got to be to go all in on game-ifying your life and taking the skills function of the gamer system, which allows you to make a ton of stuff into a skill, which thus plugs it into the Master of All functionality. Here, look at the description of Skills so you can see what I mean.
Skills (-100/-200/-300 GP)
For 100 GP, any ability or skill you possess becomes a ‘Skill’, with a skill level, increasing in power and efficiency as it levels up, done by gaining enough experience, which is gathered by using the skill; Level 1 is maximum inefficiency, while Level 99 is the maximum efficiency you could normally get — you can go even beyond that, though, with no hard cap to how high a skill’s level can be. The higher a skill’s level, the more experience required to get it to the next level. Generally, the more powerful and useful a skill, the slower it is to level up.
Any powers, skills, or abilities you already possess are automatically converted into System Skills. You may gain new skills by performing relevant actions; for example, throwing a knife might earn you the skill ‘Knife Throwing’. Skills will not deteriorate with time or disuse.
For an additional 100 GP, once a skill has reached Level 99, it may ‘prestige’, granting you an at least vaguely similar but much more powerful skill at Level 1 without taking away this one or, occasionally, traits if you’ve purchased the option. Prestige skills may themselves prestige. Prestige skills are especially difficult to level up.
For an additional 100 GP, you may ‘combine’ certain skills into a new one — without actually losing the ingredient skills.
This is hands down the best way to cheese this. This is also just a VERY good function in general, but guaranteeing that your skills can improve AND uncapping how good the stuff you do and the stuff you make can be is INCREDIBLE. This also allows you to become holistically better at everything just by cooking, or reading, and thus rewards you for having hobbies. This perk is very nice because it frees you from the constraints of training and having to incorporate stuff that makes you a stronger jumper but is more time-consuming and is not what a native would do.
I'm gonna take a beat to talk about Hyperspecialization again because one thing that's worth mentioning is that it's a passive trainer perk. It's MORE than that, sure, and in fact if you get it you're getting something worth every bit of CP you pay for it, but at it's core it's an enormously powerful passive trainer. There are other passive trainers. There didn't USE to be, at least not a LOT of them, but they exist now (these types of perks exist in several Edrogrimshell jumps, usually they are named "Dabbler" but not all of them have that name) so this perk has lost of some what made it unique. A perk doesn't have to be unique to be valuable, but it helps. Master of All, on the other hand is part of a, as far as I've seen, rarer type of perk: a training synergizer (something which blends types of training and studying together), and it's also a COMPLETE training synergizer which I've never seen before or anywhere else (normally the training synergizers I've seen link SPECIFIC skills, such as a perk from Generic Wizard which syncs how strong you are with your skill as a wizard, or a perk from Generic Culinary Warrior that links your cooking and combat skills). What this means is that if you miss out on Hyperspecialization you can go to other jumps and snag an equivalent perk there. In fact, you can actually grab something that is a MINOR improvement over Hyperspecilization, because all of the passive trainers I've seen let you passively train more than one thing at a time. It IS true that Hyperspecilization beats out these other, baby perks in how quickly it trains what you assign, but that minor aspect of its winning out is somewhat lessened in importance when you remember that placing something new in the lone slot hyperspecialization gives you resets how fast it trains the thing in question. Master of All is both less easy to compare to other existing perks and doesn't have any internal conditions that weaken active usage of it like Hyperspecialization does.
Now that's not to put you off of Hyperspecialization, if I were in a real chain I'd want to grab BOTH Hyperspecialization and Master of All (and not just because MoA completely removes the weakness of Hyperspecialization, but that's certainly a part of it haha), these are INCREDIBLY powerful perks, but one is... one is more universally useful than the other. Master of All is just an absolute S-tier perk. I cannot imagine any build where MoA is applicable where it wouldn't be an absolute GOD-TIER of a purchase. The only possible combination I could think of that might invalidate MoA would be the Sage x Spirit Touched combination from the ATLA Redux jump, and that'd be most of your base CP in a jump that has MULTIPLE sections worth of stuff to try and grab.
To put this in perspective, with a perk like this and the right combination of gamer things you can go into a setting like Chronicle and hone your telekinesis by working on your photography skills. You can become a better chef by doing your math homework and rereading whatever chapter of MacBeth you're on in English. Once you've gained the right skills you can become better at soccer and other sports while you design a website. Become a better wizard by practicing juggling. This is an incredible QoL perk that frees you from a lot of the time-crunchiness that comes with only having a decade in a setting as opposed to a lifetime. Honestly that's kind of the biggest strength of the particular nature of the Generic Gamer Jump, it does a LOT to free up your time and really let you optimize your time in a setting.

Generic Gamer As A Time Optimizer

So depending on the setting, a decade is either a LOT of time or it's BARELY any time. In Avatar the Last Airbender, a decade can be a HUGE amount of time (the entire plot of the first show is about one calendar year according to one of the show's execs), but in Harry Potter a decade is only a bit more time than the plot takes, and truthfully is barely a blink of an eye. So perks that allow you to have a special relationship with time are always good.
One of the critical facets of Generic Gamer is how it allows you to optimize time. There's definitely some underlying logic here, since game characters have INCREDIBLE growth rates, and I love that about this jump. Generic Gamer, for the cost of 50 GP lets you lose the need to sleep, the need to eat, and the need to drink. That is an INCREDIBLE boost to the amount of functional time you have in a jump, if you started your chain off as a base human and entered this jump as a non-boosted human or as an only minorly-boosted human. Getting rid of three of the most essential bodily needs for the cost of 50 points in a thing where you start off with 1350 points makes it a steal (You get different points for perks and for gamer system customization in this jump).
A big part of how essential this is, is how much time it saves you by eliminating sleep but in all honesty removing your need to drink or eat is also critical. I don't know how many jumps could safely be taken as first jumps that completely eliminate the need for sleep, food, AND water, but this one can and that's pretty OP given the costs. Also, bv eliminating the need for stuff like food and water you make entire other jumps wholly more viable. Minecraft, for example, becomes WILDLY safer if you don't have to work about starvation, since hunger is directly linked to your ability to recover from wounds but in Generic Gamer you can completely subvert this system by spending 100 GP: purchase Gamer Body (eliminating the need for food) and also purchase the HP System (which gives you fiat-backed regen, so long as you don't take a hit for a beat, giving you a passive heal much like some FPS games).
Gamer's Body & HP System guarantee you survive any setting that isn't actively trying to kill you, and also frees you up to more safely do what you want like explore or just have a good time. If you don't have to pay for food or housing for sleep, you either don't need money or you need a LOT less of it. Stuff like this is also DRAMATICALLY powerful for vampires and other creatures that are normally driven by, or at least associated with, constant hunger. Also this just makes zombie jumps hilariously easy for you to solo since the number of risks you have to take (while solo) are SO MUCH lower. Funnily enough the right set of perks here even lower the risks you have to take when you work WITH other people, as Inventory lets you both raid places by yourself (since you can store an infinite amount of stuff on you by yourself) AND lowers how much supplies you need for your friends (since time doesn't pass for stuff in your inventory, preventing it from going bad!).
This jump is also filled with training boosters, with Jack of All Trades, Experience Booster, Hyperspecialization, and Master of All all qualifying as training boosters broadly, they all just qualify as different TYPES of training boosters. This is very interesting, since one of the big things a lot of adventure jumpers will need sooner or later are training boosts of their own. The best training boost here is Experience Booster which buffs training by 100 times, a STUNNING boost to one's training, and this stacks hilariously with every other training booster here.
I have a lot of thoughts on this jump and I think I'll keep writing them down from time to time. It's just so good.
