Prior Enlisted interested in Reserves

2021.12.09 07:36 AerialSnack Prior Enlisted interested in Reserves

Most of the people that ask about going back in as a reservist seemed to be people that were excited about being in the military again, so I wanted some perspective about my seemingly different situation.
I got out back in May of this year as an IT2. I've been a lot happier since I got out. I have a good civilian job that I plan to keep. However, the reserves seem like a great way to earn a small easy paycheck. From my understanding I'm eligible for a sign on bonus (depending on how long I sign up for I guess?) As well.
I'm in Phoenix, so from my understanding, for the most part I'd probably just go up to the NOSC once a month to do my online trainings. I can't imagine too much is happening Navy-wise in Arizona.
Is there anything I'm missing that might make me want to reconsider this?

2021.03.30 23:14 Skunk-As-A-Drunk 35yo, Entering Grad School, Considering Reserves, How to Proceed

I’m starting Grad school in the fall. It’ll be enormously expensive. However, I’ve always wanted to serve in the military and know that there are a lot of educational benefits to serving. I've never served, but I did go to Marine OCS back in college before ultimately turning it down to start a civilian job. I’m mid-30s now and been wanting to scratch the itch of getting in some service before I age out. How should I proceed in this case?
I’m looking hard at the Navy Reserves. I could either work part-time while studying (and thus no military) OR I could go do Reserves while studying, which is the preferable alternative for me since I’m hoping to use my grad degree to find better positions in the civilian sector afterwards.
I’m currently in Phoenix, but grad school will be in NYC. Should my next step be to contact a Navy officer recruiter? Should I find one in one of those cities or it doesn’t matter? Is there a difference between recruiters for AD and Reserves? Some previous posts have recommended directly contacting reserve commands or NOSCs to get the inside gouge from them on what positions need filling and such.
I have the contact info for a recruiter here in PHX, but he is enlisted. Does that matter?
Thanks for any help.
